Espionage In WW2
Rough Draft
Espionage in World War 2 to Post War was a rampant epidemic that involved high levels of trickery,
psychological tactics, and incognito infiltration; consequently, many different countries were
involved in retrieving various pieces of information that could have been detrimental had the Axis
or Allies retained these blueprints, documents, and possibly voice recordings. In World War2 every
piece of evidence was needed. The war efforts in various countries were at somewhat of a hault
considering how similar every territories technology was. A new spin on an old tactic was needed
to gain upper hands in this monumental battle of bulk. So many countries turned to spying as a last
resort. Though spying has its immense share of dangers, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The KGB gave highest honors, along with British intelligence to their Cold War spies for their
valiant efforts in helping their motherland towards victory (Russia Honors its Cold War Spies 1).
Part of their efforts were feeding false provinces to those on the communist side of Berlin to
gain edge to lead to their eventual toppling (Russia Honors its Cold War Spies 1). The Jewish
people of this era gave trust to Joseph Stalin s empty promises that they could gain refuge during
this Nazi forsaken time (Russia Honors its Cold War Spies 2). Koval, as formally known, was
one of Russia s most prospering spies; he gained possibly some of the most important,
undisclosed information to help the Soviets during both the Cold War and World War II (Russia
Honors its Cold War Spies 2). However, Ivan, though wrongfully accused was a liability to his
country (Solzhenitsyn forward). He gave up zero information though, protecting his motherland
from Axis adversaries. It was strange when you came to think of it. [...] The black herd of zeks.

Age of Doubt In Europe in the 16th Century
In the 16th Century, Europeans had their faith shattered and were forced to realize that there was
doubt in what they believed in. From the countless wars being fought in the name of religion, to
the once great and wealthy countries that needed to reaffirm their place in the world, all that they
had once taken for granted was suddenly cast into doubt (446). Europeans were desperately
searching for new foundations to put their faith in in the face of intellectual, religious, and political
challenges (446). This period is an example of the expression Age of Doubt, Age of Uncertainty .
The wars going on throughout Europe through this era were claiming territories through conquest,
marriage alliances, or inheritance agreements on the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
With the help of alliances William the Silent made with France, Germany, and England, the
Netherlands was divided up with Calvinism practiced in the north and Catholicism in the Spanish
controlled South (432 433). Between 1618 and 1648, Cardinal Richelieu led the Thirty Years War
against the Huguenots, with France against Austrian and Spain and with Germany getting the brunt
of the casualties (434 437). An example of the viciousness of the attacks were described by author
Hans Jakob Christoph von Grimmelshausen in his fictional memoir Siplicissimus (the Simpleton),
where he illustrated how each had his own device to torture the peasants, and each peasant had
several tortures (435). This ended with the signing of the Peace of Westphalia in 1648, which left
France in a powerful position in Europe, Germany and Austria losing not only in casualties but in
the power structure of Europe, and Europe as a checkerboard of Protestant and Catholic
principalities (437).
The price revolution in Europe was another contributing factor giving Europeans cause for
concern. Europe s population grew after the Black Plague, yet the growth of food remained
constant, which led to higher food prices for the large demand. While the price of food increased,
the rate of wages did not match the increase. Additional factors was the surplus of bullions

Compare The Central Route To Persuasion
Concept paper #2 Persuasion
Description/Definition of Concept
Persuasion, by definition, is the process by which a message induces change in beliefs, attitudes, or
behaviors (Myers, 2010). There are two different paths that leads to influence. These two paths, or
routes, are called the Central Route and the Peripheral Route. Although these two paths enable
information to be processed differently, there are four elements that determine whether the
information will be influential or not. These four elements include who is giving the information,
what is being said, by what method is the information given, and to whom is it being told to.
The Central Route to persuasion occurs when the focus is on the argument or evidence and people
response with positive thoughts and/or feedback. This route is motivating when people care about
an issue and want to talk about it. An example would be Global warming. People use scientific ...

If your speaking to well educated or analytical people, you should be more rational. However,
uninterested parties tend to focus on the peripheral cues.
How it s being said means by what channel is the information delivered. Information can be
delivered by face to face, written form, or through the media. Repetition also makes things more
believable. When you hear something over and over, you begin to believe it even if it s
completely false. This happens a lot to people who are bullied. They begin to believe the lies their
tormentor tells them, thus resulting in low self esteem.
The audience is the last element and possibly the most important. You need to know all the
characteristics of your audience; such as age, knowledge of the issue, and if they care or not about
the argument. If your audience is young, you might want to steer clear of the central route because
they probably won t care about the facts and figures of your argument.

Examples Of Isolation In The Ocean At The End Of The Lane
What if I told you, everything you do this very moment is driven by your unconscious desires,
and you had no idea about it? It hides deep in the abyss of your mind, influencing your actions
and thoughts. When a situation pops up, people deal with them according to their comfortability,
but they usually fall under a category defense mechanisms . This can be seen very clearly in Neil
Gaiman s The Ocean at the End of the Lane , as the conflicted characters are seen to have
problems of their own, one of them being loneliness. After much reading, it is observed that the
characters have used defense mechanisms of their own to react to loneliness. The characters of The
Ocean at the End of the Lane deal with loneliness by accepting, distracting... Show more content on

The narrator s father s reason behind his loneliness is mainly due to his wife s new job, as stated
in chapter 6, Good news darling, I ve got a job... I ll be working four days a week. (6.6) This
leads him to deprive of a partner, which is a huge cause of loneliness as explained by a marriage
study that ...unhappily married is associated with significantly lower levels of overall happiness,
life satisfaction, self esteem and overall health. (Hawkins Booth, 2005) Thus, the narrator s father
turns to Ursula Monkton to fulfill his desires, displaying projection as his defense mechanism as he
thinks the feeling was mutual. In chapter 8, the narrator catches his father having intercourse with
Ursula Monkton and thinks, ...now I was scared by what it meant that my father was kissing the

Michigan University Of Michigan Football Team
The title says it all. The University of Michigan Football Team has been transformed into a
monster from the start of the Harbaugh Era. Before Jim Harbaugh took over as head coach
Michigan suffered a devastating 5 7 season and missed a bowl game under Brady Hoke. The team
is now on the up rise. Even though the statement may offend some, it is true. There are those critics
that firmly disagree because of the big plays the defense sometimes allows, an inexperienced
quarterbackand weak schedule. Despite their few flaws, Michigan has a championship caliber team
capable of monumental wins because of their; prodigious coaching staff, unmatched defensive line,
a developing quarterback, improved offense, and the man himself, Jabrill Peppers.... Show more

The staff combines to have an impressive thirty two years of experience in the NFL. (Kenyon

includes his own son. Michigan has a plethora of notable names to their coaches roster. Names
like Jedd Fisch, Tyrone Wheatley, Jay Harbaugh, Michael Zordich, Brian Smith and new coach
Don Brown to name a few. Brown coached the number one defense in the nation last year at
Boston College. He along with the other remarkable coaches has put together a defense that is
unmatched anywhere in the nation. The Michigan defense so far this year has been nothing short
of superb. In their first six games, the defense only allowed two rushing touchdowns and less than
one hundred total rushing yards a game. (Brouwer 1). Outstanding. As sports reviewer Chris
Peterson proclaims in his review for gbmwolevrine.com, [...] when you dive deep into the numbers,
[it is] hard not to call Michigan football s defense the best in the country (3). With their great plays
on defense frustrating opposing offenses game after game, Michigan has definitely rebuilt their
defense. The defense is one of the main reasons why the team is national championship worthy.
Another area that the team is working on is developing their fresh quarterback. Junior Wilton
Speight leads Michigan s offense this year, taking over the quarterback position for Jake Rudock.

Social Media Satire
A rhetoric for contemplation; what is social media s magnitude that encompasses an individual s
everyday life? As the unabridged ecosphere verves on with their day to day living: from wakening

time frame we are predisposed or rather attaining some form of social media alongside with them. In

The Blood Sucking Behavior Of Hirudo
The Blood Sucking Behavior of Hirudo Miguel Soto Professor Folkerts Pepperdine University
23 April 2014 Abstract Hirudo are well known for their blood sucking, fluid feeding behavior.
The purpose of this experiment was to get a better understanding of Hirudo s blood feeding
behavior; more specifically, the study was designed to answer the question: how do different
volumes of blood affect Hirudo s thirst? By soaking a sponge with different volumes of cow
blood and measuring the time it took for the Hirudo to attach to the blood soaked sponge, the
experiment yielded results that help explain whether or not there was a connection between the
amount of blood available to Hirudo for feeding and the time it takes Hirudo to attach to the
blood source. The experiment was conducted using six Hirudo, with a total of ten different
volumes of blood per sponge (ranging from 1mL to 10mL) and two trials done for each volume
of blood. Data collected from the experiment was analyzed with the SPSS program and found
that differences in attachment time for the various levels of blood in the sponge were significant
at the .05 level. These results explain that Hirudo do in fact take significantly less time to attach to
a blood source containing a higher volume of blood. This information can be helpful for medical
practitioners who use Hirudo as an alternative form of medicine. In nature, these results can also
help explain Hirudo s feeding behavior and how Hirudo utilizes these behaviors for

Honduras Problems
Not too long ago, the United States witnessed the horror of seeing tens of thousands of
unaccompanied children from Honduras making one of the most dangerous journey to make it to
the U.S. southern border. It was an unexpected crisis for both countries which made Honduras a top
priority for former president Barack Obama. Today Honduras is under the radar of the U. S s
foreign policy; however, the country is still reeling from illicit drug trafficking, gang violence, and
government corruption. The United Stateshas a vested interest in Honduran stability. Our
commitment to the Alliance for Prosperity in Central America is ensure the funds for the program
are properly distributed to enhance security, reduce government corruption, and provide economic
opportunity to combat poverty. Our national interest in the Central American hemisphere is to
ensure Honduras is elevated from these problems.
The demand in the United States for illegal drugs such as cocaine will continue to drive illicit drug

Native American Religion Chapter 3 Summary
In Chapter 2 and Chapter 3, the book highlights some interesting parts about indigenous religions of
North America and Africa. For starters, in the indigenous religions, they have some interesting
beliefs about how the world was created. Many of the beliefs they hold about the origin of the
creation of man, is from ancient myths of North America. The belief that North America is the
motherland for all creation. However, each native religionhas different t how they describe their
superman being. Another interesting aspect about the indigenous religions of the native American
was the tale about how the coyote became a dirt color. At first, the coyote was green and was
envious of the bluebird which was a beautiful blue. The coyote eventually asked the bluebird how it
got its color and eventually, the coyote became... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
An arrogant spirit filled the coyote and he walked proudly, so every creature would admire. The
arrogant coyote wasn t looking where he was going one day and tripped and fell in a pile of dirt.
When the coyote got up, its color changed from the beautiful blue to a dirt color. I found this tale
interesting because it shows the danger of arrogance and some of the moral teachings of
humbleness in indigenous native American religions. I believe that religions that have tales about
how their moral and ethical teaching came about are interesting because I can trace the source of
how it came about. Chapter 3 described the indigenous religions of Africa and the myths,
supernatural being s history, and the incorporation of Islam and Christianity into the different
indigenous religions. I found it interesting that many of the indigenous religions keep the tradition
from their culture into Islam and Christianity. In Islam for instance, it has spread through North
Africa and in West Africa where many of its followers retain beliefs about possession by spirits

Acorn Barnacles Lab Report
Food/Predation:
Acorn Barnacles are sessile (fixed to one place) as they are permanently fixed to the rocks. This
means that Acorn Barnacles cannot move from place to place to hunt for food, hence why they
filer feed. A structural adaptation that the barnacles have that allow them to feed are specially
adapted cirri (legs) that filter organic matter from the water. When the tide comes in, a muscle
opens the plates at the top of the Acorn Barnacle s shell. The barnacle then repeatedly waves its
long feather like legs (cirri) which have hairs that sifts the water, collecting plankton and other food
particles that are suspended in the water, before transferring them to the mouth for the barnacle to
eat. Because of this Acorn Barnacles need ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Oyster Borers are mobile as they move around from place to place to hunt for their food
barnacles. Oyster Borers feed during high tide, moving up the shore with the tide and retreating
to shelter at low tide (behavioural adaptation). A structural adaptation that Oyster Borers have is
a strong muscular foot. The Oyster Borer uses this muscular foot to wrench apart the opening
plates of barnacles such as Acorn Barnacles, before inserting its proboscis (mouthparts used for
feeding and sucking) into the flesh to consume it. Oyster Borers can also drill holes into the
shells of other prey such as oysters with their radula (file like teeth structure used for scraping or
cutting food) to feed on living prey. A physiological adaptation that Oyster Borers have is that
they use highly evolved chemo detection to locate their prey/food over long distances and by
touch. An Oyster Borers siphon (structural adaptation) serves as a chemoreceptor to locate food.
The chemoreceptor is a sensory nerve that converts a chemical signal into an action potential. In
this case Oyster Borers have a sensory nerve that detects chemicals (such as the odour of their
prey) in the air or on a surface of which their food source has been. This is then passed on as a
chemical to the brain or other central processor. This then results in the Oyster Borer to make
actions (drill holes into the shells) to eat its prey. This structural/physiological adaptation gives the
Oyster Borer an efficient way of locating its prey to

When The Day Break Movie Analysis
Film Analysis #2
When the Day Breaks, a Canadian animated short film created in 1999 by Amanda Forbis and
Wendy Tilby, has won over forty prizes such as a prize in the Chicago International Film Festival

The short film was able to tell a story while having no dialogue and it managed to carry the
message of how we are all connected. Amanda Forbis and Wendy Tilby showed the message by
presenting various frames in the film of electricity wires and water pipes and how both ended
connecting Ruby to her neighbors, the city and in the end to the rooster. Amanda Forbis and
Wendy Tilby were able to present the message in a unique and direct way since, the audience is

The Mythology Of The Ancient Greeks
In the Ancient Greeks, religion was based on the image of remarkable and memorable god and
goddess which were powerful, wise, immortal and controlled different part of the universe. For
many years humans had the opportunity to study these significant figures by reading their myths,
stories where our minds are transported to the early time of civilization in which the god and
goddess lived and became the important figures that we know nowadays. One of the god that make
himself stand out using his wisdom and his abilities was Hermes. He is the god of trade, travelers,
thieves, athletes, border crossing, guide to the Underworld and often known as the messenger of
the gods. While many gods are incredible gifted with strength and power, Hermes represents
cleverness, determination and a powerful musician.
The birth of Hermes, son of Zeus and Maia, represents his abilities as a powerful musician by his
creation of a lyre within seconds after he was born. His mother, Maia gave birth to him in a cave
on the Mount Cyllene in Arcadia and he was nursed by the nymph Cyllene. The precious baby,
became very loved and respected by all the gods in the Mount Olympus. Like Heracles, Hermes
showed his abilities as a god really fast, when he escaped from the cave he was born and invented
the lyre. He develop a plan as soon as he saw a turtle when he was wandering from the cave. His
imagination got expanded when he saw the turtle and with his genuinely laugh said: Here s a bit of

Informative Speech On Mayan Civil War
Good morning, my name is Maria Yalibat and I want to talk about the Guatemalan civil war.
This war took place for 36 years. It started in 1954 and a peace accords was signed in
1996.Guatemala s civil war was the bloodiest during 1978 1983. The mass murders conducted was
enough to be considered a genocide. My purpose today is to inform you of this war because the
United Statesplayed a big role in this, which led to inhumane murder, economic distress and
killing spree of innocent Mayans. To begin, the war started when the president at that time Jacobo
Arbenz was elected democratically. He wanted to redistribute land from the wealthy and the united
fruit company to allow poor farmers a chance to survive and have crops to be able to make a living.

They had been cheated and wanted their land back. Many Mayans supported them and felt that
they were their only hope. Soon they started saying that Mayas and guerillas were a huge threat
to society. According to, Beatriz Manz, more than 200,000 people were killed and 70 percent
were Mayan and 600 massacres occurred. They targeted Mayan women, children and men, they
beat them, raped them, humiliated them and burned them alive. The United States was a big
cause of why this got so big and gruesome. They supplied weapons and training according to the,
Socialist lawyer. If the United States believed in democracy and liberty, why did they put a
dictator? Post war conditions were horrible. And until this day there isn t much peace or
democracy that the US fought for in the first place. When Efrain Rios Montt was president he took
things farther. My mother s mother told her that she had seen the military, line men up who robbed
or did something wrong and put blind folds on them and killed them in front of everyone. They
started to lynch people. My father said that generals would tell indigenous people to come down

Bring Your Own Device ( Byod )
Bring Your Own Device (BYOD) is referred to it by many names: bring your own danger, bring
your own disaster, bring your own detonator, but whatever the name, it is becoming more and
more commonplace in all sectors across the world. What used to be unthinkable, using one s
own personal mobile device or smartphone for work is now emerging as one of the biggest
technology trends of this decade. The idea of using a personal device at work developed when
many executives got their first Blackberries and iPhones back in the mid 2000 s and wanted access
to corporate resources from these devices such as email and the corporate intranet. Since then,
BYOD has transitioned from a trend to a major revolution of enterprise Information Technology (IT)

The issue is two fold, one being that IT departments have lost the ability to fully manage devices
that connect to the company s network, but also employees are now demanding that they have the
ability to conduct company business and have access to extremely secure company resources from
multiple personal devices. Obviously this hasn t gone over very well from the IT perspective.
Initially IT departments were very resistant to change taking into consideration the huge security
risk allowing these devices onto the network presents, however more and more departments are
beginning to adopt these new practices, but at the same time are still very hesitant because they
remained very concerned about the inherent risks of permitting personal devices to access and
store sensitive corporate data. The timeline outlined below gives an excellent graphical
representation of where BYOD started in the early 200 s and where it is and going now that it s
in its third wave and really finding its way as a mature solution in the enterprise. Mobile devices

of mobile devices in the workplace is important to achieving business objectives, but almost the

The Impact on a Student s Performance from a Highly...
INTRODUCTION
Consider a student running so swiftly from boarding house to school for his/her class. And in the
time that he/she is right there in front of the door, the teacher welcome him with an eyes wide
open and uttered, Did I ever fail to tell you not to enter my class if you are late even in a single
minute? And the pitiful student left with nothing but a teary eyes. As you put your shoe to the
students situation, what would you feel? Will you feel discouraged or will you take it as a
challenge not to be late again? Supporting to that, this paper aims to appeal who are these teachers
are and their effectiveness on enhancing the students learning, the pros and cons of a high standard
teacher, and the feedbacks of the students once handled by a high standard teacher. To implement
this study, the method to be used is by interviewing some students once handled by a high standard
teacher. We will know how and what do they think and feel whenever these teachers enter to the
classroom and how these happenings affect their performance on that particular subject. Education
is considered as learning itself. In education, a teacher has its own way to make it profound,
realistic, and a peculiar one. This may vary from person to person or from teacher to teacher.
Moreover, learning is a two way process. There is an interaction between the educator and the
learner. In every learning condition, you have to consider the barriers also, and such barriers

Natural Gas Must Be A Hydrocarbon Fuel
Although natural gas could be a hydrocarbon fuel, the global warming emissions from its
combustion are much lower than oil.
Natural gas emits 50 to 60 % less greenhouse gas. Considering only tailpipe emissions, natural gas
additionally emits 15 to 20 % less heat trapping gases than oil when burned in today s typical
vehicle
Emissions from smokestacks and tailpipes, however, don t tell the complete story.
The drilling and extraction of natural gas from wells and its transportation in pipelines, ends up in
the leakage of methane, a way more potent global warming gas than carbon dioxide. Preliminary
studies and field measurements show that these questionable fugitive methane emissions vary from
1 to 9 % of total life cycle emissions.
Whether natural gas has lower life cycle greenhouse gas emissions than oil depends on the assumed
leakage rate, the global warming potential of methane over different time frames, the energy
conversion efficiency, and different factors
Cleaner burning than different fossil fuels, the combustion of natural gas produces negligible
amounts of sulfur, mercury, and particulates. Burning natural gas will manufacture nitrogen oxides,
that are precursors to smog, however at lower levels than oil and diesel used for motorcars.
However, despite these advantages, unconventional gas development will have an effect on native
and regional air quality. Some areas where drilling happens have experienced increases in
concentrations of unsafe air pollutants

Income Inequality Essay
Income Inequality Among Developing Countries and Their Relations To The Affluent World
On September 25th of 2015, the United Nations adopted a comprehensive initiative to combat a
wide variety of global health issues that currently plague humanity. The initiative, entitled UN
Sustainable Development Goals includes a list of seventeen goals to be achieved over the next
fifteen years and encompasses measures to end poverty, protect the planet, and ensure prosperity
for all. This paper intends to provide an in depth analysis of the tenth UN
Sustainable Development Goal: Reducing income inequalities.
Income inequality is a problematic reality of the modern era that slows economic growth,
generates political instability, causes health problems and creates severe social inequalities among
children. As part of this analysis, determinants of this global issue will be discussed as well as its
correlation with globalization. Lastly, suggestions will be provided to the global community with
regards to possible solutions to income inequality, as well as a discussion about the potential roles
and responsibilities for Canadians in response to the issue.
Although many milestones have been reached on the road to eradicate mass poverty, a large
disparity still exists, otherwise known as income inequality. The issue currently pertains to the rich
and poor. It is illustrated among a macroeconomic level (between countries), as well as a
microeconomic level (within countries).

Phyllis Schlafly And The Feminist Movement
Equal rights has always been an apparent issue in the society of America. For centuries, women
have taken on the role as property to their husbands and have lived quiet lives under the male
control. Questionable amendments and laws such as the Equal Rights Amendment, or ERA, were
created to provide equal opportunity to both sexes. The ERA was specifically created to provided
absolute equal rights for women. Today, America is in desperate need of the Equal Rights
Amendmentdue to the lack of rights in the Constitution regarding women s rights, equal protection,
and sex discrimination. One important figure to note in the history of the feminist movement was
Phyllis Schlafly. She was known for fighting against the ERA and disagreeing with many

Imac Essay
The iMac was made by Apple, released on June 5, 2017. The iMac is ideal for me because it fits
all my requirements for general use. The cost of this computer starts at $1399.00, but when adding
additional features the price can go to $3,079.
The price I would buy it at is $1,729, paying this amount I get additional features that includes the
3.0GHz quad core 7th generation Intel Core i5 processor, which is useful for me as I need it for
daily use and require the processor to run fast, the 8GB 2400MHz memory that is enough since I
would use it for basic document work, photo editing multi tab browsing and media streaming and
even though this sounded like a lot these tasks can be completed with 4 GB so for me 8GB is more

From these options I would have the 1TB SSD because an SSD does everything a hard drive does
functionally, but data is instead stored on interconnected flash memory chips that retain the data
even when there s no power present so nothing is moving. Opposite to that is a hard drive which
basically is a metal platter with a magnetic coating that stores your data, this last only for a
certain time until it wears off, and the disk also spins making noise. For speed, an SSD equipped
PC will boot in just seconds and a hard drive requires time to speed up to operating specs, and will
continue to be slower than an SSD during normal use. Due to this high speed storage, loading large
files and launching softwares will be much faster than the previous macs.
For the appearance for the iMac pro, the height of it is 17.7 inches, the width is 20.8 inches, the
stand depth is 6.9 inches and the weight of it is 5.66 kg. Moreover, it has an amazing 500 nits of
brightness along with a billion colours. This feature is one of my favourites because I love taking
photos and with the iMac the photos will look much brighter, colourful and they will have amazing
quality.

East Australian Current Essay
The East Australian Current (EAC) is a surface current driven by winds over the South Pacific.
Thousands of marine animals travel on this current to reach warmer, seasonal waters or breeding
grounds. With or without animals, the current continuously moves. Mission trips are like the East
Australian Current. I have learned that the missionnever ends, sweeps travelers along, and takes
people places they could never have gone on their own.
The mission will continue with or without Sunnydale s participation. Mission trips at Sunnydale
are not isolated outreach programs. The mission is much bigger than this school. The worldwide
mission system has corresponding mission trips to cover their diverse cultures and countries. The
Adventist church is not original; missions extend far beyond their denomination. In fact, the
mission itself goes beyond religion and reaches people to aid medical needs, disaster calls, and
moral degradation. I learned that the mission here at Sunnydale means spreading God in any way,

Cuban Immigrants And The Cuban Adjustment Act Essay
INTRODUCTION:
Even though Cuba is a little under 100 miles away from the United States, the relationship between
the two countries has created an atmosphere full of tension and perpetual mistrust. When Fidel
Castro decided to align Cuba with the U.S.S.R. and become a communist country, the United States
of America was stunned and highly insulted. Because of their relationship, both countries have
played a back and forth game of trying to outdo the other. This game and state of affairs in Cubahas
created a large influx of Cuban immigrants looking for better opportunities and trying to escape
poverty and persecution. This paper will be focusing on Cuban immigrants and examining different
Cuban immigration laws, which allowed them to easily become United States citizens, including;
the Cuban Adjustment Act, The Immigration and Nationality Act Amendments of 1976 and the
Wet Foot, Dry Foot Policy. It will also discuss whether the Cuban immigration laws are unfair to
other foreign immigrants and whether the laws are relevant today. Finally, we will be considering
the future and try to predict how the laws will change with the changing diplomatic relations
between Cuba and the United States and the imminent removal of the Embargo Act.
CUBAN IMMIGRATION LAWS:
The Cuban Adjustment Act was enacted in 1966. The Act allowed illegal Cuban immigrants, who
were already living in the United States for two years prior, to easily gain their citizenship. It also

Informative Speech On Down Syndrome
Good morning/afternoon aspiring doctors. Bob and Betty are willing to start a family after
achieving much success in their careers. Betty has conceived naturally, however, she is in her 40 s
and is concerned about the risks her child faces due to her age.
There are many risks associated with parental age; including the increased likelihood of being
pregnant with multiples, high blood pressure, hypertension and gestational diabetes.
Consequently, these risks can cause the premature delivery of a baby with a low birth weight
(The American College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists 2015; March of Dimes 2017; Evidence
Based Birth 2017). Women aged 40 are also susceptible to have a 51% chance of a spontaneous
miscarriage and are two and a half times as likely to have a stillborn baby (Birth Injury Justice.org
2017); compared to a 22 year old with 8.7% (Birth Injury Justice.org 2017; Evidence Based Birth
2017). The miscarriage rates are higher in older women as they occur within the half of the first
trimester due to genetic problems including Down syndrome; as 1 in 53 at the age of 40 have a baby
with a genetic disorder, compared to 1 in 1064 at 25 (Evidence Based Birth 2017).
The increased risk of Down syndrome in 40 year old women is believed to be caused by errors
which can crop up in the eggs genetic material as they age (Down Syndrome Screening: A One

Immigration And Immigration Movement
The history of immigration and emigration in the United States is closely linked to the history of
railroads. Immigrants were not only integral to the construction of the transcontinental railroads that
facilitated western expansion, but they also used the railroad to migrate west and to form new
immigrant settlements in western states and territories.
In the early 19 century, United States expanded westward, across the Mississippi
River and later to the Pacific Ocean. These western lands, either was purchased, won in battles, or
seized outright from Indian tribes and other nations. For many years migrants came in search of
wealth and better opportunities and very often clashed either with Mexicans or Indians who
defended their homeland and traditions. From the Louisiana Purchase of 1803 through the
migration that resulted from the Transcontinental Railroad and the Homestead Act, Americans
engaged in what Theodore Roosevelt termed the Great Leap Westward. The settlers were
motivated to expand to the west after Meriwether Lewis and William Clark led the expedition
(1804 to 1806) through the Louisiana purchase territory that was acquired from France in 1803.
Their mission was assigned by President Thomas Jefferson with the intention to assess the land s
resources, make diplomatic contact with the Indians, and search for the Northwest Passage, a route
to the Pacific Ocean.
The railroads of the 19th century had transformed America in ways that awed and dazzled onlookers

degree, language in the process of Hellenisation . The Roman religion was created by copying
the religion of the Greeks, with the exception of the names of the gods and goddesses and some

As of other countries that were conquered by Rome, the Romans also took the way of building

The Evolution Of Homo Sapiens
The species that you and all other living human beings on this earth belong to is Homo sapiens.
Homo sapiens, believed to have evolved over a very long period in Africa, Asia and Europe. Like
other early humans that were living at this time, they gathered and hunted food, and evolved
behaviors that helped them live day to day with the challenges of surviving in unstable
environments. Homo sapiens different characteristics such as larger brain, different size of canines,
and material cultural as in tool use have all helped them evolve, but in their own unique way. Some
traits may be a little somewhat similar to primates such as birth, sexual relations, family, bone

The brain of Homo sapiens have been proven to be much larger than that of primates.
(Armstrong, Falk 2012: 237) Anatomically, modern humans nowadays can generally be
characterized by the lighter build of their skeletons compared to earlier humans in the past.
Modern humans have very large brains, which vary in size from population to population and
between males and females, but the average size is approximately 1300 cubic centimeters in
contrast to some primates such as chimpanzees whose brain size averages from 275 500 cubic
centimeters. Most of this brain size difference reflects the evolutionary expansion of the
association cortex, a group of regions that supports such mental functions as language, self
awareness, and problem solving. As a result modern humans have spread to every continent and
vastly expanded their numbers. They have altered the world in ways that benefit them greatly
as in rapidly adjusting to such things like climate change and new environments. Homo sapiens
must remain in the care of their parents for much longer than other living primates. Homo
sapiens stay in their parents care for over 18 years, until adulthood. In contrast to the Old World
Monkeys, they stay with their parents for about 4 5 years. This is typically because their parents
conceive children every year. The question then becomes, why would the children of homo
sapiens remain with their parents for such a long period of time? It might make more
evolutionary sense to grow up rapidly to have more offspring and to be independent, but it is in
those 18 years that crucial knowledge is gained. The explanation may be our large brains which
presumably require a long time to grow and learn. Certain aspects of survival and life are usually
learned through parents and with the aid of their knowledge, we are able to learn how to adapt to
our social environments. Primates do this as well but not to

As the number becomes smaller, the longer the average it would take to find a required nonce, due
to the lower probability that a particular value will produce less than the target. This is further
solidified by the act of the bitcoin system of periodically adjusting the difficulty target so that the
average time the network needs to find a nonce is about 10 minutes. By doing this, as computer
hardware gets faster by the growth of technology regarding computer hardware over the years, the
protocol will simply adjust its mining target to make mining always last around 10 minutes thus
creating an objective regulation which does not give anyone an advantage, something the current
system is consciously lacking with the presence of day trading and the profession of investors in

consistent innovations in the methods to corrupt. The measure, dubbed proof of work, makes any

Symptoms And Treatment Of A Migraine Sufferer
Each year over twenty six million people nation wide are affected by migraines. Once thought to
be a concentration of evil spirits in the brain, common cures consisted of everything from drilling
holes in the skull, to inserting garlic cloves into the temples. Today however, scientists realize
that this all too common occurrence is actually a neurological disorder, which can result in the
disability of its victim for hours or even days. I myself have been a constant sufferer of migraines
since the age of twelve. The following is the life of a migrainesufferer: myself.
I am a 16 year old that has had migraines for almost 5 years, and in the last year my migraines have
exponentially increased to the point where I am unable to do anything. I end up in hospital once a
month and treatment only helps for a certain amount of time.
During a migraine, you feel an unreasonable amount of pressure in your head, and then a throb hits
you on the sides of the head so hard that your head bobs to the other side. There s no way that
came from inside your head, you think. That s no hypothetical crisis. God just punched you in the
face.
My parents believed that the most appropriate place to begin is a brief look into my and my
family s medical background. Since the age of twelve I have constantly been struck with
migraines, occurring more and more frequently as I age. Migraines can strike children as well as
adults, however; typically the migraines become less frequent after early adulthood.

Deprived on Sleep
It is important for everyone to get enough sleep, but many people often ignore it. If people do
not get enough sleep they may experience sleep deprivation. Sleep deprivation can have
negative effects. When people do not get enough sleep or less, they may feel crabby and unable
to function as well as they usually do the next day. Balancing work and parenting as a single

children to extracurricular activities are a lot for one s plate. As single parent I had my share of
sleepless nights as well, mostly when either my children fall sick or when I work extra shift at

Glaciers Are Formed By Ice Erosion
Glaciers are essentially frozen rivers. They are common in the Northern Hemisphere as well as at
high altitude.
Glaciers don t erode quickly, but over a long period of time they can cause drastic changes.
Did you know that Glacial lakes are formed by ice erosion?
The glacier carves out a ditch in the earth and the glacial water melts and is left behind, and when
the glacier is moving, it collects rocks with it.
A Glacier s weight, combined with its gradual movement means that the glaciers can change the
land and make unique land forms. The three processes by which glaciation effects and changes

Plucking occurs when cracked and broken rocks are frozen and stuck into glaciers. As a glacier

in place. These pieces of rock can now be plucked from their rocky base and carried along with the

Lee Harvey Oswald s JFK Assassination
Two days after the JFK assassination, the official suspect, Lee Harvey Oswald, was shot dead by
Jack Ruby, a Dallas strip club owner. Oswald s famous remark that I m just a patsy (Warren

Rumours suggested that Jack Ruby had been involved not only in the cover up but also in President

mistaken and that Ruby s murder of Oswald, just like Oswald s murder of Kennedy, was simply
the act of a deranged lone gunman (Warren Report, pp.333 373). The House Select Committee on

How Did Hebrews Influence Western Civilization
Out of the rich history of Western Civilization, the most influential and powerful philosophical idea
that has greatly impacted history (and continues to influence modern society across the globe) is
indeed the concept of monotheism. This began with the Jewish religion of the Hebrews (also
known as Israelites). From there this belief has continued to be a major influence in daily life,
politics, culture, and inventions in many major western civilizations since then. Many mighty
empires and powerful civilizations existed before the emergence of the Kingdom of Israel
including Mesopotamia, Egypt, and the Hittite Empire all of which were polytheistic civilizations.
Also during the time of Israel s infancy, were ancient Near East empires of the Chaldeans, Persians,

As will be discussed regarding the Hebrews, ...these people developed the world s first
monotheistic religious system and created the ethical framework of Western Civilization (Levack

polytheistic ways, and put their faith in various gods of nature, most likely influenced by the
surrounding polytheistic cultures and civilizations. However, It was among the Babylonian exiles
in the sixth century B.C.E. the Yahweh the Godof Israel came to be seen as the only God
(Spielvogel 36). When the Israelite exiles were back in Judah, their view of monotheism came to
be the major tenet of Judaism (Spielvogel 36). These new viewpoints were very different form the
other polytheistic belief systems, particularly in the idea that an individual can have a personal

that he refuses or avoid this could mean he is not disclosing something, such as another

Potter V Brunswick Legal Aid Services Case Summary
Prepare a one page report on a case investigated by one of the three labour legislative acts/codes.
Include in your report a summary of the case, and create three questions that you have about this
case. Potter v. New Brunswick Legal Aid Services Issue : Mr. David Potter was contracted as the
Executive Director of Legal Aid Services Commission in New Brunswick for a seven year long
term. A little after halfway through the duration of the contract, the two parties did not see to eye
and were seeking for an early termination and began negotiations. However, during that period Mr.
Potter had taken a sick leave and the Commission promptly replaced him without waiting until the
negotiation was over and the chairperson believe that it would be in the best interest of the
Commission to terminate Mr. Potter for cause. He was then suspended indefinitely with pay and
his position was transferred to someone else. Once Mr. Potter filed an action against the
Commission for constructive dismissal his salary and benefits were cut off assuming that he had
taken that action to confirm his resignation from the Board. This case is significantly notable as it
set new standards and possible reform... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Potter eligible for his complaint and is protected by the code as a non unionized employee. The
breach of the employment contract bounding Mr. Potter and the Commission clearly falls into the
realm of constructive dismissal. The absence of proper authority and the change of terms of
employment prior a settlement between the two parties, is why the case turned into Mr. Potter s

The Abstract Principles Of Sexuality And Race
The abstract principles of sexuality and race have always been delicate ideas for society to
comprehend. When you Google the word sexuality , you do not come across a gender specified
definition that constricts males and females to desire only one another. It simply states that it is the
sexual habits and desires of a person. Any person, male, female, transgender, or otherwise, can be
sexual with whomever they desire. So why is the dichotomy of homosexualityversus heterosexuality
such a pervasive notion?
There are multiple myths and facts about sexual orientation. Case Western Reserve University,
located in Cleveland, Ohio, is one of the most LGBT friendly campuses in the country. On their
website they host an page about their gender friendly campus that answers any common questions
one might have about such issues. No one knows what causes sexual orientation. Many lesbian,
gay and bisexual people know that they are attracted to members of their own sex at an early age,
sometimes as young as 6 or 7 years old. Others learn much later in life, in their 30 s, 40 s or later
still. Some research indicates that sexual orientation is determined between birth and age 3, but no
one is sure what causes particular orientations.
As for race, considering and supporting the theory of color on individuals and collaborating the
ideas to our community, in my opinion, seems to be much more of a delicate matter than sexuality.
The concept of race is a modern concept. In the

Prosopagnosia
Prosopagnosia is a neurological disorder that makes it difficult or virtually impossible for people
to distinguish between human faces in the worst cases, even the faces of close family members.
There are obvious advantages to being able to recognize people, one of which is to distinguish
between friends and enemies. Fortunately, most humans, especially infants, are able to do so with
great ease. According to various studies, it seems that at the age of just a few months, infants begin
to fine tune their facerecognition skills for the types of faces which they see most often, usually
faces of people of their own race or ethnicity (National Research Council, 2004). The term
prosopagnosiacomes from the Greek words for face and lack of... Show more content on

J., Quinn, P. C., Slater, A. M., Lee, K., Ge, L., Pascalis, O., 2007). Also shown from the multiple
studies on infants, it has been made known that many prosopagnosiacs have suffered from the face
recognition impairment for most of their lives, perhaps since birth. Due to these newer studies, it
has been proven that many people suffer from prosopagnosia without experiencing any
neurological damage. This form of the neurological disorder is frequently referred to as
developmental or congenital prosopagnosia. For these individuals, they merely fail to develop
normal face processing abilities despite normal intellectual and perceptual functions. Even more
recent evidence proposes that there may be a genetic contribution to developmental prosopagnosia;
several case studies reported at least one first degree relative who also suffers from the face
recognition impairment (Bate,

Discuss How Nationalism Spread Across Europe with Napoleon...
Nationalism was formed with the idea that a nation is made up of people who are joined together
by common language, customs, cultures and history. It held the belief that one should be loyal to
the people of their nation, not a king or empire. Nationalists believed that people of a single
nationality should unite under a single government. The concept of Nationalism emerged in the
French Revolutionand was spread to the rest of Europeby Napoleon s conquests. Nationalism was
used by Napoleon to make France a great power in Europe. Nationalism helped France to develop
a national language which was taught in schools to replace local dialects. This unification of
language helped the people of France to feel closer to each other, with... Show more content on

First he wanted to surround France with strong countries to prevent further aggression by them.
Second he wanted to restore a balance of power so that no country would be threatened by another
and last he wanted to restore Europe s royal families to the throne. The Congress of Vienna was a
victory for the kings and royal families. Some countries had constitutional monarchies while others
were absolute monarchies. The rulers of Europe were concerned about the legacy of the French
Revolution and worried about revolutions starting elsewhere. Despite their efforts, the leaders of
the Congress of Vienna could not make people forget and although the first try at Nationalism had
failed, it set new political ideas in motion. Metternich devised a series of alliances called the
Concert of Europe which ensured that nations would help one another out if any revolution broke
out. Across Europe, conservatives kept a firm hold on the governments.
The Congress of Vienna influenced world politics for the next 100 years. Their effort to maintain a
balance of power diminished the power of France and increased both Britain and Prussia s power.
Internationally the Congress of Vienna was successful. For the next century European countries
seldom turned to war to solve their differences. Within counties though, revolutions were erupting.
In the first half of the 1800 s there were three schools of political followings; conservative, liberal
and radical. The

From the countless wars being fought in the name of religion, to the once great and wealthy countries that needed to reaffirm their place in the world, all that they had once taken for granted was suddenly cast into doubt (446). Europeans were desperately searching for new foundations to put their faith in in the face of intellectual, religious, and political challenges (446). With the help of alliances William the Silent made with France, Germany, and England, the Netherlands was divided up with Calvinism practiced in the north and Catholicism in the Spanish controlled South (432 433). Between 1618 and 1648, Cardinal Richelieu led the Thirty Years War against the Huguenots, with France against Austrian and Spain and with Germany getting the brunt of the casualties (434 437). An example of the viciousness of the attacks were described by author Hans Jakob Christoph von Grimmelshausen in his fictional memoir Siplicissimus (the Simpleton), where he illustrated how each had his own device to torture the peasants, and each peasant had several tortures (435). This ended with the signing of the Peace of Westphalia in 1648, which left France in a powerful position in Europe, Germany and Austria losing not only in casualties but in the power structure of Europe, and Europe as a checkerboard of Protestant and Catholic principalities (437). The price revolution in Europe was another contributing factor giving Europeans cause for concern. Europe s population grew after the Black Plague, yet the growth of food remained constant, which led to higher food prices for the large demand. While the price of food increased, the rate of wages did not match the increase. Additional factors was the surplus of bullions ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Compare The Central Route To Persuasion Concept paper #2 Persuasion Description/Definition of Concept Persuasion, by definition, is the process by which a message induces change in beliefs, attitudes, or behaviors (Myers, 2010). There are two different paths that leads to influence. These two paths, or routes, are called the Central Route and the Peripheral Route. Although these two paths enable information to be processed differently, there are four elements that determine whether the information will be influential or not. These four elements include who is giving the information, what is being said, by what method is the information given, and to whom is it being told to. The Central Route to persuasion occurs when the focus is on the argument or evidence and people response with positive thoughts and/or feedback. This route is motivating when people care about an issue and want to talk about it. An example would be Global warming. People use scientific ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... If your speaking to well educated or analytical people, you should be more rational. However, uninterested parties tend to focus on the peripheral cues. How it s being said means by what channel is the information delivered. Information can be delivered by face to face, written form, or through the media. Repetition also makes things more believable. When you hear something over and over, you begin to believe it even if it s completely false. This happens a lot to people who are bullied. They begin to believe the lies their tormentor tells them, thus resulting in low self esteem. The audience is the last element and possibly the most important. You need to know all the characteristics of your audience; such as age, knowledge of the issue, and if they care or not about the argument. If your audience is young, you might want to steer clear of the central route because they probably won t care about the facts and figures of your argument. Research Developing or Supporting the ... It hides deep in the abyss of your mind, influencing your actions and thoughts. When a situation pops up, people deal with them according to their comfortability, but they usually fall under a category defense mechanisms . This can be seen very clearly in Neil Gaiman s The Ocean at the End of the Lane , as the conflicted characters are seen to have problems of their own, one of them being loneliness. The purpose of this experiment was to get a better understanding of Hirudo s blood feeding behavior; more specifically, the study was designed to answer the question: how do different volumes of blood affect Hirudo s thirst? By soaking a sponge with different volumes of cow blood and measuring the time it took for the Hirudo to attach to the blood soaked sponge, the experiment yielded results that help explain whether or not there was a connection between the amount of blood available to Hirudo for feeding and the time it takes Hirudo to attach to the blood source. The experiment was conducted using six Hirudo, with a total of ten different volumes of blood per sponge (ranging from 1mL to 10mL) and two trials done for each volume of blood. Data collected from the experiment was analyzed with the SPSS program and found that differences in attachment time for the various levels of blood in the sponge were significant at the .05 level. These results explain that Hirudo do in fact take significantly less time to attach to a blood source containing a higher volume of blood. Oyster Borers feed during high tide, moving up the shore with the tide and retreating to shelter at low tide (behavioural adaptation). A structural adaptation that Oyster Borers have is a strong muscular foot. The Oyster Borer uses this muscular foot to wrench apart the opening plates of barnacles such as Acorn Barnacles, before inserting its proboscis (mouthparts used for feeding and sucking) into the flesh to consume it. Oyster Borers can also drill holes into the shells of other prey such as oysters with their radula (file like teeth structure used for scraping or cutting food) to feed on living prey. A physiological adaptation that Oyster Borers have is that they use highly evolved chemo detection to locate their prey/food over long distances and by touch. An Oyster Borers siphon (structural adaptation) serves as a chemoreceptor to locate food. The chemoreceptor is a sensory nerve that converts a chemical signal into an action potential. In this case Oyster Borers have a sensory nerve that detects chemicals (such as the odour of their prey) in the air or on a surface of which their food source has been. This is then passed on as a chemical to the brain or other central processor. This then results in the Oyster Borer to make actions (drill holes into the shells) to eat its prey. Natural gas emits 50 to 60 % less greenhouse gas. Considering only tailpipe emissions, natural gas additionally emits 15 to 20 % less heat trapping gases than oil when burned in today s typical vehicle Emissions from smokestacks and tailpipes, however, don t tell the complete story. The drilling and extraction of natural gas from wells and its transportation in pipelines, ends up in the leakage of methane, a way more potent global warming gas than carbon dioxide. Preliminary studies and field measurements show that these questionable fugitive methane emissions vary from 1 to 9 % of total life cycle emissions. Whether natural gas has lower life cycle greenhouse gas emissions than oil depends on the assumed leakage rate, the global warming potential of methane over different time frames, the energy conversion efficiency, and different factors Cleaner burning than different fossil fuels, the combustion of natural gas produces negligible amounts of sulfur, mercury, and particulates. Burning natural gas will manufacture nitrogen oxides, that are precursors to smog, however at lower levels than oil and diesel used for motorcars. However, despite these advantages, unconventional gas development will have an effect on native and regional air quality. Income Inequality Essay Income Inequality Among Developing Countries and Their Relations To The Affluent World On September 25th of 2015, the United Nations adopted a comprehensive initiative to combat a wide variety of global health issues that currently plague humanity. The initiative, entitled UN Sustainable Development Goals includes a list of seventeen goals to be achieved over the next fifteen years and encompasses measures to end poverty, protect the planet, and ensure prosperity for all. This paper intends to provide an in depth analysis of the tenth UN Sustainable Development Goal: Reducing income inequalities. Income inequality is a problematic reality of the modern era that slows economic growth, generates political instability, causes health problems and creates severe social inequalities among children. As part of this analysis, determinants of this global issue will be discussed as well as its correlation with globalization. Lastly, suggestions will be provided to the global community with regards to possible solutions to income inequality, as well as a discussion about the potential roles and responsibilities for Canadians in response to the issue. Although many milestones have been reached on the road to eradicate mass poverty, a large disparity still exists, otherwise known as income inequality. The issue currently pertains to the rich and poor. It is illustrated among a macroeconomic level (between countries), as well as a microeconomic level (within countries). The ... For speed, an SSD equipped PC will boot in just seconds and a hard drive requires time to speed up to operating specs, and will continue to be slower than an SSD during normal use. Cuban Immigrants And The Cuban Adjustment Act Essay INTRODUCTION: Even though Cuba is a little under 100 miles away from the United States, the relationship between the two countries has created an atmosphere full of tension and perpetual mistrust. When Fidel Castro decided to align Cuba with the U.S.S.R. and become a communist country, the United States of America was stunned and highly insulted. Because of their relationship, both countries have played a back and forth game of trying to outdo the other. This game and state of affairs in Cubahas created a large influx of Cuban immigrants looking for better opportunities and trying to escape poverty and persecution. This paper will be focusing on Cuban immigrants and examining different Cuban immigration laws, which allowed them to easily become United States citizens, including; the Cuban Adjustment Act, The Immigration and Nationality Act Amendments of 1976 and the Wet Foot, Dry Foot Policy. It will also discuss whether the Cuban immigration laws are unfair to other foreign immigrants and whether the laws are relevant today. Finally, we will be considering the future and try to predict how the laws will change with the changing diplomatic relations between Cuba and the United States and the imminent removal of the Embargo Act. Betty has conceived naturally, however, she is in her 40 s and is concerned about the risks her child faces due to her age. There are many risks associated with parental age; including the increased likelihood of being pregnant with multiples, high blood pressure, hypertension and gestational diabetes. Consequently, these risks can cause the premature delivery of a baby with a low birth weight (The American College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists 2015; March of Dimes 2017; Evidence Based Birth 2017). Women aged 40 are also susceptible to have a 51% chance of a spontaneous miscarriage and are two and a half times as likely to have a stillborn baby (Birth Injury Justice.org 2017); compared to a 22 year old with 8.7% (Birth Injury Justice.org 2017; Evidence Based Birth 2017). The miscarriage rates are higher in older women as they occur within the half of the first trimester due to genetic problems including Down syndrome; as 1 in 53 at the age of 40 have a baby with a genetic disorder, compared to 1 in 1064 at 25 (Evidence Based Birth 2017). • 27. Immigration And Immigration Movement The history of immigration and emigration in the United States is closely linked to the history of railroads. Immigrants were not only integral to the construction of the transcontinental railroads that facilitated western expansion, but they also used the railroad to migrate west and to form new immigrant settlements in western states and territories. In the early 19 century, United States expanded westward, across the Mississippi River and later to the Pacific Ocean. These western lands, either was purchased, won in battles, or seized outright from Indian tribes and other nations. For many years migrants came in search of wealth and better opportunities and very often clashed either with Mexicans or Indians who defended their homeland and traditions. From the Louisiana Purchase of 1803 through the migration that resulted from the Transcontinental Railroad and the Homestead Act, Americans engaged in what Theodore Roosevelt termed the Great Leap Westward. The settlers were motivated to expand to the west after Meriwether Lewis and William Clark led the expedition (1804 to 1806) through the Louisiana purchase territory that was acquired from France in 1803. Their mission was assigned by President Thomas Jefferson with the intention to assess the land s resources, make diplomatic contact with the Indians, and search for the Northwest Passage, a route to the Pacific Ocean. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The brain of Homo sapiens have been proven to be much larger than that of primates. (Armstrong, Falk 2012: 237) Anatomically, modern humans nowadays can generally be characterized by the lighter build of their skeletons compared to earlier humans in the past. Modern humans have very large brains, which vary in size from population to population and between males and females, but the average size is approximately 1300 cubic centimeters in contrast to some primates such as chimpanzees whose brain size averages from 275 500 cubic centimeters. Most of this brain size difference reflects the evolutionary expansion of the association cortex, a group of regions that supports such mental functions as language, self awareness, and problem solving. As a result modern humans have spread to every continent and vastly expanded their numbers. They have altered the world in ways that benefit them greatly as in rapidly adjusting to such things like climate change and new environments. Homo sapiens must remain in the care of their parents for much longer than other living primates. Homo sapiens stay in their parents care for over 18 years, until adulthood. In contrast to the Old World Monkeys, they stay with their parents for about 4 5 years. This is typically because their parents conceive children every year. The question then becomes, why would the children of homo sapiens remain with their parents for such a long period of time? It might make more evolutionary sense to grow up rapidly to have more offspring and to be independent, but it is in those 18 years that crucial knowledge is gained. The explanation may be our large brains which presumably require a long time to grow and learn. Certain aspects of survival and life are usually learned through parents and with the aid of their knowledge, we are able to learn how to adapt to our social environments. From there this belief has continued to be a major influence in daily life, politics, culture, and inventions in many major western civilizations since then. When you Google the word sexuality , you do not come across a gender specified definition that constricts males and females to desire only one another. It simply states that it is the sexual habits and desires of a person. Any person, male, female, transgender, or otherwise, can be sexual with whomever they desire. On their website they host an page about their gender friendly campus that answers any common questions one might have about such issues. No one knows what causes sexual orientation. Some research indicates that sexual orientation is determined between birth and age 3, but no one is sure what causes particular orientations. • 43. Prosopagnosia Prosopagnosia is a neurological disorder that makes it difficult or virtually impossible for people to distinguish between human faces in the worst cases, even the faces of close family members. There are obvious advantages to being able to recognize people, one of which is to distinguish between friends and enemies. Fortunately, most humans, especially infants, are able to do so with great ease. According to various studies, it seems that at the age of just a few months, infants begin to fine tune their facerecognition skills for the types of faces which they see most often, usually faces of people of their own race or ethnicity (National Research Council, 2004). The term prosopagnosiacomes from the Greek words for face and lack of... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... J., Quinn, P. C., Slater, A. M., Lee, K., Ge, L., Pascalis, O., 2007). Also shown from the multiple studies on infants, it has been made known that many prosopagnosiacs have suffered from the face recognition impairment for most of their lives, perhaps since birth. Due to these newer studies, it has been proven that many people suffer from prosopagnosia without experiencing any neurological damage. This form of the neurological disorder is frequently referred to as developmental or congenital prosopagnosia. For these individuals, they merely fail to develop normal face processing abilities despite normal intellectual and perceptual functions. Even more recent evidence proposes that there may be a genetic contribution to developmental prosopagnosia; several case studies reported at least one first degree relative who also suffers from the face recognition impairment (Bate, ... The concept of Nationalism emerged in the French Revolutionand was spread to the rest of Europeby Napoleon s conquests. Nationalism was used by Napoleon to make France a great power in Europe. This unification of language helped the people of France to feel closer to each other, with... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... First he wanted to surround France with strong countries to prevent further aggression by them. Second he wanted to restore a balance of power so that no country would be threatened by another and last he wanted to restore Europe s royal families to the throne. The Congress of Vienna was a victory for the kings and royal families. Some countries had constitutional monarchies while others were absolute monarchies. The rulers of Europe were concerned about the legacy of the French Revolution and worried about revolutions starting elsewhere. Despite their efforts, the leaders of the Congress of Vienna could not make people forget and although the first try at Nationalism had failed, it set new political ideas in motion. Metternich devised a series of alliances called the Concert of Europe which ensured that nations would help one another out if any revolution broke out. Across Europe, conservatives kept a firm hold on the governments. The Congress of Vienna influenced world politics for the next 100 years. Their effort to maintain a balance of power diminished the power of France and increased both Britain and Prussia s power. Internationally the Congress of Vienna was successful. For the next century European countries seldom turned to war to solve their differences. Within counties though, revolutions were erupting. In the first half of the 1800 s there were three schools of political followings; conservative, liberal and radical. The ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
