Who Would You Expect To Be Recovered In The Story Why...
I would expect to be rescued if I put myself at risk because I wouldn t want to die. Also people pay a
lot of money to go climbing. Rescuers also could be hero s if they save people. So people who put
themselves at risk have the right to be rescued. One reason why those who need help should be
rescued is because climbers pay a lot of money to go climbing. The author in the story Why Everest?
Says that they pay ... thousands of dollars ... for a permit . ( Guy Moreau ).This quote shows that they
should be rescued because they pay a lot of money for permits to climb the mountain, that money
should also go to the rescue cost. Even though climbers put themselves in danger they paid a lot of
money for the permit to climb the mountain. Another

Characteristics Of Guerrilla Warfare
Guerilla Warfare: A Case in Vietnam War
Introduction During the Napoleonic Wars, the term Guerrilla Warfare emerged as the main
phenomenon that lead the interest of various thinkers such as Clausewitz, Marx and Engels to examine
its importance in war. Guerrilla means little war , which explain a type of warfare, fought by irregulars
in a fast paced, small scale actions against military groups and police forces. The word guerrilla came
from guerrilleros which referred to Spanish and Portugese irregulars that successfully pushed back
French army during the Peninsular War in 1808 1814. The practitioners of guerrilla warfare have been
called rebels, insurgents and mercenaries due to the nature of hide and seek tactics, which designed ...

Denying their victory is accomplished by hit and run operations, hide and seek technique, and surprise
attacks. It is important to attack the opponent s vulnerable spots with coordination and retreat, causing
the enemy s distress and frustration. In aforementioned case study on Vietnam War, guerrila tactics
was shown effectively pushed back US troops despite limited military equipment and technology, in
contrast with US advanced technology for airstrikes and ancillary.
This essay has shown how intelligence and ambush are crucial in determining successful guerrilla
tactics. Deception was used in a form of disguise. The Vietcong who posed as farmers in the
countryside worked the fields during the day. They held no suspicion from the US patrols and were
not considered as a threat. The US troops was driven to frustration over identifying enemy and
alliance. Another example comes from the complex underground tunnel. The tunnel provide shelter
and mobilization for the Vietcong. Because of this, the Vietcong was able to operate surprise attacks
successfully. The importance of two characteristics cannot be dismissed, as they provide crucial plans

Benefits Of A New Internship Program Essay
The second method we will utilize to promote our message will be through a variety of online
resources. We are aware that students have a strong online presence, and that they utilize the web for
everything, including internship searches. With that being said, we plan to increase our presence on
top tier universities recruiting websites. On these employment websites, we will promote our
internship opportunities and let students know when we will be attending their campus. Additionally,
we plan to market our message on popular social media platforms like Facebook, Twitter, and
Instagram.
Developing the format of our new internship program was an important step, however, we feel that
promoting our new internship effectively is even more crucial. As we send our top recruiters to our
target universities and improve our presence on the web, we feel that we will be able to promote our
message and acquire premier talent.
Resources Needed to Implement the Rotational Program
In order to initiate our new rotational internship program properly, we will need a variety of resources.
First, we will need resources to acquire prospective interns and second we will need resources to
accommodate interns once they are hired. Both types of resources are essential in order for our new
internship program to function flawlessly.
We will need three resources to acquire prospective interns. First, we need a group of recruiters that
have significant recruiting experience, and are young enough

Massachusetts Bay Colony Religion
In a sermon delivered aboard the ship Arbella, future New England governor John Winthrop declared
that the new colony ...shall be as a city upon a hill with the eyes of all people upon us (1630) .
Evidently, Winthrop s sermon held great significance for the colonists of the Massachusetts Bay
Colony as this sentiment that is, to be an illuminated, moral example to the Old and New World
remained foundational to the development of their lives in the New World. Thus, it is clear that
religion was tremendously significant in the lives of the northern colonists known as Puritans or
Separatists particularly in the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries following colonial expansion into
the New World. The colonies Plymouth, Connecticut, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In regards to architecture, many of the Puritan homes and the few municipal buildings lacked the style
of décor and detail of Old World buildings, particularly because statuary and painting were significant
parts of the Catholic/Anglican ritual that the northern colonists were so eager to reject (Fingerhut,
1967, p523). Evidently, the religious devotion to the Protestant Christian belief was expressed in a
more humble, minimalist manner through embroidery of floral designs and basic geometric patterns in
architecture (Fingerhut, 1967, p523). Thus, the architecture and construction of the New World
buildings can be considered a materialisation of their religious beliefs. Additionally, the physical
layout of the settlements in New England echoed the centrality of religion in the northern colonists
lives. Meetinghouses were the wood frame, municipal buildings in which served the public for
religious purposes as well as secular purposes (Benes, 2012). These meetinghouses were often the
physical centre of a township , and represented the significance of religion in the lives of the colonists
(Benes, 2012). Moreover, Historian David Hall suggests that they were symbolic of the intimate link
between the clergy and townsfolk a social evolution unlike the Old World, in which there was
immense separation between such people (1984,

Explain The Paradox Of Thrift
Macroeconomics Problem Set
Critical thinking: Paradoxes in Macroeconomics. The Macro/Micro difference
We are, in short, temporarily on the other side of the looking glass. The combination of the liquidity
trap even a zero interest rate isn t low enough to restore full employment and the overhang of
excessive debt has landed us in a world of paradoxes, a world in which virtue is vice and prudence is
folly, and most of the things serious people demand that we do actually make our situation worse .
Introduction
I will briefly explain about what I am going to do in the essay. o Response to the title o Give some
history about the three paradoxes o Give a brief assessment of what is happening in the economy.
Point 1
Paradox of Thrift o Paradox of thrift: is a theory, which states if everyone tries to save money at the
same time, which you make think will create future wealth. However because everyone is doing this,
which means there ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
o Because microeconomics looks at individual transactions and small impacting originations making
use of scarce resources. So saving in microeconomics may be good for the individual, however as
macroeconomics looks at the bigger picture and looking at how the whole economy useless scarce
resources. So in fact one thing may be good for someone, however it may not be good for someone
else.
However there are also occasions when savings can benefit the economy. o For instance if people save
in the economy, it could lead to future wealth. Because if people place more money into the bank. The
banks will be able to lend money to businesses, who can invest money on machinery, which will then
create the money multiplier.

The Rashomon Effect
The various interpretations of the same event by different people in which contradict each other, is
known as the Rashomon effect. The phrase comes from the film Rashomon, and it is about a murder
and rape case. It also involves the different stories of each witness. Many times, when something
happens, people tend to share about the specific event based on what they hear or see. In this case,
point of view plays a great role. As far as the Rashomon film itself, there are many cases in society
ranging from minor ones to major ones which use the Rashomon effect. For example, the Orenthal
James Simpson (OJ) case. The case itself deals with a former football player, O.J. Simpson who is
charged with the murder of his ex wife Nicole Brown Simpson and her friend Ron Goldman. What I
find both interesting and revealing, is the fact that each witness that testifies, describes O.J. s mode in
a different way based on their perception of him. On July 10, 1995, the murder trial of O.J. Simpson
began with the testimony of his oldest daughter, 26, Arnelle Simpson. Arnelle stated that her father
was emotional, distraught, and out of control when he had heard of Nicole Simpson s death. On June

Second class passengers were mostly white collar workers and steerage was offered to the relatively
poor. Cruising was therefore only ideal for the rich. But today cruises lines have changed dramatically
within the travel industry and have become very cost efficient to customers. As many new deals are
being promoted by advertisements to offer customers a price sufficient holiday without spending too
much. Pricing is critical within a company because if the pricing is too high it won t attract many
people who are looking for a low budget cruises. Companies have certain pricing strategies. These are
premium pricing, value for money pricing and undercut pricing. Pricing can also be determined by
peak of off peak times within the year. Both companies have a set of terms and conditions which are
on both on the websites stating the pricing policy when booking a cruise with that company. But on
the Thomas cook website it does not state anything about booking a cruise terms and conditions.
These should be read by customers before booking. Carnival Line cruises are offering 110% best price
guarantee as once a customer has booked with Carnival Cruise Lines, if they find a better deal they
will be offered more on board credit on their stay with the cruise line. This promotion is very good as
it attracts more individuals to travel with them. As both cruises are targeted towards different

Binge Drinking Persuasive Speech
Partying we all love to do it but do we know how to party safely. Did you know that 15 Australia s
each day and 5545 die each year due to un safe alcohol related behaviours? As well as, 430
hospitalized Australians every day and 157,132 each year are hospitalized due to alcohol related
problems? The unsafe social behaviours that cause so many deaths throughout Australia due to alcohol
consumption are: sexual abuse, attention deficient, impulsive behaviour, aggressiveness over
everything, self awareness, anxiety relief, empty promises, drink driving, depression, violent
behaviour and last binge drinking. Binge drinking is one of the worst social behaviours as it starts at a
young age and that is where the obsession starts, as an Australia study shows that 2,00 kids that have a
sip of alcohol when they are young due to their parents. This can lead to future binge drinking by the
time they are 15 to 16 years old. It has been estimated that 2,643 Australians die due to binge drinking
each year. Some of the effects of binge drinking can cause are a loss of control of brain function, less
aware of your surroundings as well as loss of your tolerance levels so they drink more and more. This
is why binge drinking is an unsafe social behaviour. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

The During The Second World War Essay
During the Second World War My grandfather had served in the United States Navy starting in 1944.
During his time in the war he was able to visit many islands that were once being occupied by the
Japanese and could see the remainders of their rule. He was able to see what had happened to the local
people who got caught in the middle of a war that they had no place in and how it affect all of them.
That is what I researched, how the Japanese treated the people that they occupied and what had
happened to the people during the Second World War. Before the start of the war many of the islands
in the pacific had been inhabited by native people, and during the Age of Imperialism many islands
had been taking over by European powers for their natural resources. These islands being just south of
Japan had gained their interest for both economic and strategic reasons and they began to take control
of them in the late 1800 s. Then throughout the war the Japanese had captured many islands during the
war and had moved some ways into China as well. The people who would be used as a labor force and
sometimes the women would become comfort women or sex slaves. It is shown that the way that the
Japanese treated the inhabitants was poor and towards the end of the war when the Americans came in
the Japanese would have the inhabitants actually commit suicide. Japan treated the inhabitants
horribly and some compare it to a Holocaust of their own with other numbers of war crimes. Even

French Involvement In The California Gold Rush
French Involvement in the California Gold Rush
California Gold Rush, Mexican War, Who found gold. Why the Mexicans didn t.
During the late 1840s, France had suffered commercial decline. France had begun construction on a
large scale rail network, but failed to budget their construction properly, leaving the construction
unfinished, and it s backers bankrupt. This cascaded further than the initial investors, as smelters who
relied on the railways to buy their metal lost a major purchaser. The resulting economic fallout lead to
unemployment across several industries. The lack of work for the majority of the populace led many
to poverty. At the time, bread prices began rising prices, further straining the economic situation of the
working class. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
While newspapers such as the New York Herald touted the grandiose tales of gold flowing in
California. Papers such as the Times of gand the Courrier des Etats Unis were more relaxed in their
reports, expecting newspapers such as the Herald to have greatly exaggerated the news in California,
as was expected of Americans at the time. In addition to the skeptical attitude held by the Courrier, the
gold rush did not reach national attention immediately due to more pressing matters at home.
Following the uprising came the freedom of the press, universal suffrage regardless of gender, and the
national elections for President of France; these topics dominated French headlines, and competed
against the reports of gold. Still, the gold rumors managed to pepper the daily newspapers. The
populace however, remained adamant that the reports were simply American fantasy. It wasn t until
December fifth, 1848, when President Polk delivered his State of the Union and confirmed the rumors
of gold in California, did the acceptance of the gold rush become unanimous. With the elections
drawing to a close on December tenth, France was in a frenzy, with the fervor of a new duly elected
president, and the dreams of Californian gold.

The NFL and the Steroid Ban of 1987
My research question is Why did the steroid ban of 1987 have no affect on the growing size and
performance of linemen in the NFL? The use of steroids in the NFL began in the 1960 s and came
with a lot of controversy. As time progressed, more rumors and players came out about linemen using
steroids to enhance their size. There have been a few linemen who have come out about their use of
steroids such as Lyle Alzado, Tony Mandarich, and Steve Courson. The ineffectiveness of the steroid
ban has resulted in the perpetual use of steroids in the NFL.
The evaluation of the ineffectiveness of the steroid ban provides changes for the NFL to make in their
rule and it provides health consequences for players using the substance. The NFL needs to make a
rule change or make the rules stricter in order for players to stop using the substance.

The Growing Size of NFL Linemen
While it may seem as though the linemen in the NFL are just as big as they were thirty years ago, they

1980 to 94 in 1990, 301 in 2000, 394 in 2009 and 532 as training camps began in 2010. The major

Analysis Of Paul Bloom s People Don T Want Equality, They...
The argument I chose to analyze was People Don t Actually Want Equality, They Want Fairness by
Paul Bloom. In this argument, Bloom writes about how people want fairness for the same work, but
they did an experiment with these two children to clean up their rooms and was rewarded with erasers,
and there were only five erasers, so it was impossible to split the erasers unless you give them both
each two erasers and throw out the extra erasers or later give the extra eraser to one of the children
without the other child knowing. Or they would give three to one child and two to the other child and
explain why the child with the most erasers was rewarded more because that child out of the two did
the most work. The children were okay with inequality, but as long as it was fair. People think because

isn t really what s bothering them. . When you compare between the riches and the very well off, it s
proportional because both sides are financially stable while the well off and the poor would have
inequalities. If the whole world was in poverty, it would be equal, but few would rather live how we
are today. Paul Bloom also credits an article titled Americans Want to Live in a Much More Equal
Country (They Just Don t Realize It) written by Dan Ariely. Paul Bloom quoted Ariely s article, the
vast majority of Americans prefer a distribution of wealth more equal than what exists in Sweden,
which is often placed rhetorically at the extreme far left in terms of political ideology.. . Based on

American government always complies with Keynesian for a long time, and believes that the reason
that total social supply is not the same to total social demand is the lack of effective demand (the
analysis of American economy). So most of the successive governments implement the expansionary
deficit policies, in order to deal with cyclical fluctuations, and stimulate effective demand artificially.
Deficit policies are easy to make economic bubble to stimulate the excessive consumption and
promote market false prosperity, especially in the financial markets, it also has contributed to raise
inflation rates. Once the bubble bursts, the economic crisis would be coming.
Socialism is an economic system characterized by social ownership and cooperative management of
the means of production, and a political philosophy advocating such a system (Wikipedia). In
socialism, the government needs to control the whole market in order to promote the productive power
according to the current market situation. The main economic strategies are based on the market and
include more government control than socialism. This is the best advantages of socialism because
when the economic crisis was coming, the government could adjust the macro control policies and
introduced a series of initiatives to expand domestic demand and promote economic development. It
achieved success quickly and efficiency. But, socialism is easy to establish monopoly enterprise.

Maud Martha Allegory
Maud Martha, writing by Gwendolyn Brooks, is quite a unique piece of literature. The book being a
novel that does not follow a linear path for telling events. The novel follows the events in the life of a
negro woman names Maud Martha Brown. The novel starts with Maud being described as a girl and
what she liked was candy buttons, and books, and painted music (deep blue or delicate silver) (Brooks
1). She also liked dandelions, despite them being a common flower, she thought that it was hard to
believe that a thing of ordinary allurements... was as easy to love as a thing of heart catching beauty.
(Brooks 2). Already at the beginning of the book Brook introduced the black and white contradiction
between Maud and her sister Helen. Maud being the a thing of ordinary allurements and Helen being a
thing of heart catching beauty (Brooks 2). This is a major allegory for finding beauty in even the
simplest things. The novel also covers several other events in her life, such as her courting, marriage
and then the birth of her child.
Maud Martha is also quite an interesting book, being the only novel written by Brooks. The novel part
of the book is usually ignored but the poetry style of writing brooks uses throughout the book is
praised by many critics. Straight off the bat I must say that Maud Martha draws some attention while
you are reading it. My friend Pedro R. once asked me, Hey Logan, what are you reading? while he

Argumentative Essay On Net Neutrality
Net Neutrality is a widely debated topic that comes with not only great support but also logical
opposition. While looking at net neutrality you must consider several ideas that impact the topic.
Before looking at any ideas though, you must first understand what net neutrality is. First, it is an
abbreviation of network neutrality which is the idea, principle, or requirement that Internet service
providers should or must treat all Internet data as the same regardless of its kind, source, or destination
as stated by the Merriam Webster Dictionary. A few of those ideas previously mentioned are how will
the consumers, economy, internet service providers, content providers, and others be impacted by
having net neutrality or taking away net neutrality. Appealing net neutrality and how it would occur is
another very large topic. How difficult that would be is very important. Net neutrality is a subject that
has so many influential factors that it is hard to come to a single right answer, and that is why the
thorough research of this issue is so greatly needed.
Net Neutrality is an argument that has been highly debated for years, but in the past several months it
has come back contentious as ever. To give a bit of background, you should know that the FCC is an
acronym for the Federal Communications Commission. It is a government committee that watches
over both interstate and international communications by all communications such as radio, television,

European Imperialism 19th Century
With the wealth of the industrial revolution burning in their pockets, the powerful nations of Europe
were ready to formally expand their empire into Asia and Africa. Known as new imperialism, this
desire for expansion was motivated by many things. There were two major reasons why Europe
wanted to expand, and that was the promise of economic growth, and the sting of national rivalry.
Prior to the 19th century Europe s interactions with Asia and Africa had mostly been limited. Content
on making money from their already established commercial outlets, Europe usually didn t impose

Raskolnikov, in Dostoevsky s novel Crime and Punishment, is a complex character difficult to

He tells himself that his actions are not the same as those of the peasants, who acted only out of
malicious cruelty. His motives are quite different. Raskolnikov believes that he can use Alena
Ivanovna s money to help his mother and sister, who are extremely poor. Thus, he initially convinces
himself that he is willing to perform this act of violence in order to benefit his family.
This motivation is secondary to a darker one. Raskolnikov believes in Hegel s idea of the World
historical individual, one who commits extraordinary deeds which may be forbidden to the rest of
society but are permitted to an elite few. Hegel believed that the actions of these world historical
individuals had such a profound influence upon their societies that the criminal or violent nature of
their deeds was justified by the larger good they accomplished. Thus, Napoleon s military victories
cost thousands of men their lives, yet he was justified in disregarding these losses as the inevitable
costs of his rise to power, which he used to improve French society as a whole, instituting sweeping
reforms in religion, education , the judicial system, and other areas. Raskolnikov explains to Porfiry
later that those with new ideas to

Physician-assisted Suicide is Murder Essay
Jeanette Hall once had the desire to die; a desire so strong, she even asked her doctor for help. Jeanette
lives in Oregon, where assisted suicide is legal. On July 17, 2000, Jeanette was rushed to the Portland
hospital only to be given a maximum time of survival: six months. She had been diagnosed with an
inoperable form of colon cancer. Jeanette had a fear of losing her job, not being able to care for her
loved ones, paying hospital bills, and suffering. It was her choice to die and was prepared to reject
chemotherapy and radiation, but thankfully, Jeanette s doctor, Dr. Kenneth Stevens, encouraged her to
fight. Jeanette claims, If he [Dr. Stevens] believed in physician assisted suicide, I would not be here 13

The difference between the two methods is the initiation or act of death; euthanasia, the doctor
initiates death, whereas in physician assisted suicide, the patient willingly takes the medication,
therefore, committing suicide with the help of the doctor s prescription (Marker 1). Because
euthanasia and physician assisted suicide are relatively similar in purpose and function, they will be
used in correlation to each other when discussing the use and concerns.
With states having the option to choose legalization, the few that have the law in place limit its use to
terminally ill patients (Ardelt 5). Terminal illness is defined as a disease that cannot be cured or
adequately treated and is expected to result in death of the patient within a short time (Benjamin 4).
Most recent is Vermont, which legalized assisted suicide in May 2013, making legalization relevant to
today s society and issues with the possibility of more states legalizing these methods (Benjamin 3).
With millions of patients being diagnosed with terminal illnesses, such as cancer, heart disease, and
fatal accidents, both those patients and their families are exposed to the compelling aspects of
euthanasia and physician assisted suicide (Swarte 2). Euthanasia and physician assisted suicide should
not be legalized in the United States due to safety concerns, economic challenges, and society s

Lung Cancer Research Paper
Cancer affects everyone at some point in their life, whether it be themselves or a relative. For myself,
it was niece that was diagnosed with leukemia. While scientists have identified countless carcinogens,
there still isn t an exact science on how to avoid cancer. Leukemia is the most common type of
childhood malignancy under the age of 15 1, and it makes me wonder what these kids at such a young
age are predisposed to, that makes them more susceptible. When I think about cancer I associate it
with radiation whether it be treatment or cause. Ionizing radiation is a known carcinogen and can

Introduction. The Case Study Renovating Home Depot Was
Introduction
The case study Renovating Home Depot was the case of a leader who joined a successful business
only to discover that the company was running out of growth opportunities and also did not have the
basic systems needed for increased growth in place. Robert Bob Nardelli was chosen as the CEO of
Home Depot based on his proven ability to reenergize slow growth businesses. He was a leader that
went all out to achieve his goals and was identified as someone who was comfortable in his own suit ,
and believes in being successful his own way. He made several innovations which were used in
General Electric (GE) where he recorded past successes. We see the success demonstrated in the
growth of revenue in Home Depot, as well as opening ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Nardelli was also quite weak in Human Resource (HR) and customer service which were the key
aspects of any retailing business that aspires to be successful. Looking at his personality, he was
someone that was full of pride, ego and always like to have his way. He failed to practice consultative
management and was driven by the fact that he wanted to prove Jack Welch (the then CEO, who did
not give him a shot at general management) wrong and he s ready to go to any length to achieve this.
According to one of the store managers that left, he said: after Nardelli arrived, things weren t
presented to you; they were told to you . Considering all of these, I would not hire Nardelli.
2) Describe Home Depot when Nardelli took over. What kind of place was it? Is Nardelli a tyrant or a
strong manager? Support your position.
A strong foundation for success and growth was already in place in Home Depot under Marcus
leadership. The company demonstrated a very strong culture, built on entrepreneurialism and customer
service. Abundant promotion opportunities were created due to rapid growth attracting carpenters,
plumbers and other building professionals as salespeople. Most of the non entry level jobs were filled
internally, and from the 400 department heads, just a dozen came from outside the company.

Thin Democracy
Thin democracy can be considered as the overview of how democracies elect their leaders. Joseph
Schumpeter describes thin democracy to have free, fair, and regular elections. On the other hand, there
are ten thick dimensions to what is considered a liberal democracy. Thick democracy has
characteristics such as a large amount of individual freedoms in terms of speech, belief, and opinion,
pluralism in regards to media and information outlets, and equality of all citizens under the law. The
distinction between the two are important because they both present two different results when being
established. Thin democracy is malleable and can multiply at a good rate. However, this only gives an
opportunity for good values to be established and does not ensure the same perks as thick democracy.
Thick democracy is slowly forged with liberal ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The relationship between liberalism and democracy is that both should attempt to be intertwined.
Liberalism is like the roof and walls which protect the citizens from government and democracy is the
structure and foundations which keeps order. It is completely possible to have one without the other,
but the results are not always good. As stated in the second reading, the separation of the two would
result in forms of illiberal democracy or liberal autocracy. Illiberal democracy would have the
electoral process of a thin democracy, but will likely overlook protecting the citizens rights and focus
on accumulating power. A liberal autocracy may not allow much say into who or what is spearheading
the nation, but will allow many qualities seen in a thick democracy. Illiberal democracies may also
eventually spiral into disarray along with horizontal and vertical usurpation. Liberal autocracies would
have freedom of speech, a fair judicial system, and even individual freedoms for beliefs, culture, and
religion. Of course, there may be more or less freedoms with both liberal autocracies and illiberal

Analysis Of The Scarlett Letter And The House Of Seven...
Battle of The Customs Nineteenth century literature is highly influenced by historical facts for the
characters and the setting of the story. Hawthorne uses historical facts and integrates them into his
story. The 1900 s are the prime time of religion, etiquette and social classes. A lot of our customs
today come from this time period. In the past, questioning any of these could result in serious
punishments. In both The Scarlett Letter and The House of Seven Gables, Hawthorne demonstrates
the impact of going against the customs as well as social etiquette in the nineteenth century. To begin,
in both novels, sin and knowledge are the source of all problems. In The Scarlett Letter, hypocrisy is a
prominent theme. Hypocrisy in the eyes of religion, is a horrible sin to have. It has physically scarred
Dimmesdale. Dimmesdale believes that God knows and He is merciful of his sins. Dimmesdale says
that [God proves] his mercy, most of all, in [Dimmesdale s] afflictions (The Scarlett Letter, 266).
Since Dimmesdale is a sinner and keeps it a secret, God inflicts pain on his chest were the letter A
should be. This is interpreted as a sign of karma for his sins. Therefore, his knowledge of God and his
sin makes him believe that this is his punishment for letting Hester take all the blame and are the
ultimately the cause of his death. Another example of how sin causes problems is in Hester. In her
care, the act of adultery ruins Hester s life and reputation. To support, when

My five page paper is on a famous baseball star named Roberto Clemente. As he was very talented, he
also cared and loved for everyone. He would help those in need and enjoy it too. All around Roberto
Clemente was a wonderful man. In these next five pages I will be talking about his life and how he
was a good samaritan throughout his life.
Roberto Clemente was born in the summer in August 18, 1934. He was born in a house of concrete
and wood on an old country road in Barrio San Anton, Carolina, Puerto Rico. He was the youngest of
seven children. His father was a foreman overseeing sugar cane cutters and helped deliver sand and
gravel for a construction company. His mother did laundry, ran a grocery store and did other jobs on
the sugar cane plantation. Roberto did odd jobs so he could help the family and buy himself a bicycle.
Growing up, Roberto played baseball and participated in track and field. He won medals for the
javelin throw and short distance races. Throwing the javelin strengthened his arm for throwing a
baseball. Roberto was a very athletic boy.
Roberto Clemente had four brothers and two sisters. He did have to work with his father loading and
unloading trucks because his family was poor. He was very interested in baseball ever since he was
young and played against teams in his neighborhood. He went to Vizcarrondo High School in

Choosing Unhampered Market Process
Analyse of what would happen if the steering (injection of money) would be abandoned and a return
to the unhampered market process was chosen instead.
Systems exist to maintain the society and bring prosperity, the monetary system is one and have gone
through different stages and uses in its development. Due to different needs, societies develop at
different pace so, the advantages and disadvantages of monetary system varies from one society to
another. Today, money is no more backed by commodity, not equal to gold reserves; it has only a
promissory standard. Thus no standard can effectively determine true money value as it is constantly
redefined by consumers with relative understanding of other products true values in the market. ...
Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The problem is that it takes time to produce. The too much money injected in the economy is chasing
outputs of lesser values. Thus, less valuable products are produced and then kept alive in the market
with this artificial government money. The values of our commodities are now unreal making them to
cost much less than they would have in the unhampered market process.
In Finland as well as well as other western states, most people that bought apartments with
government backed loans could not have afforded it if the governments were not giving home loan
interest tax deductions. Some profit calculations in the housing market investments are based on
negative cash flow deductions and 100% deduction of the investment expenses. These types of
investments would crash if we return to the unhampered market process, as the government will be
unable to give those tax breaks or loan backups. All toxic firms that are creating ponzi schemes, and
service providers like cleaning companies ran by people who would not be in the business without
support money (startti raha) from the unemployment office will die off. There will be more
unemployed people.
Finland as a social welfare state cannot be the same in an unhampered market process because
government will not be a producer. Cheap public services like free education, cheap medical care and
social insurance like Kela would be more expensive.

New World Art Analysis
This weeks reading concentrated largely on the discovery of the new world and how Europe came to
understand the peoples from these newly discovered lands. Of course since this discovery was long
before the advent of camera or telecommunications, artists were commissioned to interpret logs and
accounts of those who experienced the Americas first hand. This made way for a great deal of artistic
interpretation as the artist translated these descriptions in pictographic form. The three assigned
readings each concentrated on an artist and their approach to depicting the Americas. Of course each
had their own positive and negative aspects, but one thing that remained common between the three (

In his work Stradano creates fantastical and mythical depictions of what the new world would look
like. In a way I think this is really refreshing, because despite all of Burgkmair s efforts, he would
always be playing a game of telephone, receiving his information second hand rather than grasping it
with his own eyes. This in turn make his efforts a bit futile since they are not exactly scientific in their
rendition. It is because of this that I find Stradano s approach so delightful, he did not pretend to know
what the new world looked like, or how the people of that world acted or looked like. Instead he made
illustrations that described a great deal of how the people of Europe felt about the discovery of the
new world, as a placed filled with wonder and pleasure that was almost mystical to them. Instead of
comparing the savage/civilized, he concentrated on depicting the discovery of the americas as an
idealized mythical endeavor, equating it to something like birth of Venus or the Fall of Adam and Eve.
Despite the fact that the treatment of europeans towards the Americans was dismal and unfair, they did
discover the land, which in itself is a fantastical feat and for this reason Stradano and his patrons
wittily made art that praised the expansion of the

Classical Chinese Garden Of Suzhou And Japanese Dry...
The Interpretation of Nature in Classical Chinese Garden of Suzhou and Japanese Dry Landscape
Garden of Ryoan ji Luis Barragán, the influential Mexican minimalist architect and Pritzker Prize
winner once said that, In the creation of a garden, the architect invites the partnership of the Kingdom
of Nature. In a beautiful garden the majesty of nature is ever present, but it is nature reduced to human
proportions and thus transformed into the most efficient haven against the aggressiveness of
contemporary life. Such design principle, with a strong emphasis on the unity of man and nature as a
way to build freedom and independence in the natural environment of gardens away from the unrest
social political atmosphere, has not only been seen in Western minimalist architecture, but also has
been extensively utilized in Classical Asian architecture. Classical Chinese Garden of Suzhou and
Japanese Dry Landscape Garden are two typical examples that demonstrate such harmonious
coexistence between artificiality and nature. Thus, with a focus on a comparison between the selected
examples of Humble Administrator s Garden of Suzhou (see fig. 1) and Ryoan ji Dry Landscape

respond to their social political and religious environments by conveying different interpretations of
nature. Garden of the Humble Administrator, which consists of numerous pavilions and bridges set

The Power Of Change In Blood Wedding By Federico Lorca
Blood Wedding was written during a time of civil and political turmoil in Spain. Federico Lorca, the
author of Blood Wedding, was one of many individuals divided over whether the people should have
the oppression of the traditional ruling government or to have a new individually based era reign over
Spain. Being a homosexual male inside such difficult times, Lorca was in favor for change. He wrote
this play using a real life event that he read in the newspaper about a bride that ran away with the son
of an enemy family. The events he read and the events in the play are a time capsule of the emotions

the need of war. The Spanish government remained willing to fight for what the predecessors of Spain

would have kept that blood soaked dirt in a chalice of glass and topaz (39) . Groom, the embodiment
of the traditional Republican government, was deeply affected by the death of his father and brother,

The use of bulls and blood are used to symbolize war. The Fascist leaders of Italy aided in the Spanish

The Bilateral Relations Between Malaysia And China
Malaysia is recognized as one of the Southeast Asia countries that have undergone economic
prosperity. Therefore in this essay, I will argue on two major factors that have promoted the economic
development in Malaysia which are the bilateral trade relations with China and the regional stability in
Southeast Asia. In the first section of this essay, I will provide a brief overview of Malaysia s
economic development trajectory in the early post independence period. Next, in the first part of the

main factor for Malaysia s economic expansion. Following the second part, I will emphasize on the
importance of regional stability in Southeast Asia in facilitating Malaysia s economic growth. Lastly,

Analysis Of The Great Dictator Charlie Chaplin
The Great Dictator written and directed by Charlie Chaplin is a film that circles around two characters,
which are both played by Chaplin. The movie begins in a time and place similar to one where Hitler
had risen to power, and started his annihilation of the Jews. Chaplin plays both the amnesiac Jewish
barber and Hynkel (Hitler), the dictator of Tomainia. Hynkel though a powerful and ruthless dictator is
often shown to be comically dwarfed both in height and intelligence. His right hand commander, or
trash guy, seems to be the one behind some of his plans. He compliments Hynkel with words of praise
then proceeds to hint at ways to destroy the Jews, and take over the neighboring states. But as the film
progresses, we see how Chaplin portrays Hynkel as being utterly ridiculous; the man cannot seem to
do anything without growing angry at his own incompetence.
Movies like this, and a similar film, Inglorious Bastards , portray Hitler as a man who in the face of
death or immediate anger will quiver and blubber nonsense or the next second muster enough anger to
rant as loud as possible (ex: Cheese and Crackers!) I think Chaplin did good capturing the Fuhrer s
mannerisms in such an ironic way. Some of his mannerisms include the feeble, affected hand salute;
Inclination for striking ludicrous attitudes; The fabulous fits of rage and violent facial contortions.
There were many themes I noticed in the film, and one of the most prevalent themes was the use of
satire. The use of humor and exaggeration provided a constant comic relief from the actual reality of
what was going on during this time. Although he did state at one point that he was unaware, or not
fully aware of Adolf s actions and intentions. According to an article, Chaplin wrote in his biography
that he regretted making the The Great Dictator: Had I known of the actual horrors of the German
concentration camps, I could not have made the Great Dictator; I could not have made fun of the
homicidal insanity of the Nazis. I found it interesting that in a way his film was foreshadowing history
itself. At the beginning of the film, the detective missile continues to aim at the Jewish soldier, no

Frederick Douglass s Influence On American Society
Frederick Augustus Washington Bailey, or better known, Frederick Douglass was born in February
1818 to Harriet Bailey in Talbot County, Maryland. For a long time, Frederick did not know his
birthdate or his family lineage and it haunted him till the day he died. Frederick Douglas family
lineage reach as far back into the beginnings of America and maybe even further into American
prehistory. Douglass was believed to have Native American blood in him. Just from the description of
him, his broad forehead, heavy cheekbones, and yellow brown skin (Preston, pg.9) and his childhood
master calling him little Indian boy (Preston, pg.9) made a lot of people assume that he was. Douglass
once recalled about the time when a stranger on a Hudson River steamer who took me for one of the
noble red men of the far West. ...Douglas replied that he was not an Indian but a Negro, he said the
man turned away in disgust. (Preston, pg.9) Frederick Douglass was proud that he was a Negro even
though he had no problems with Native Americans. Frederick Douglass passion for the abolition of
slavery may be seen as arising from his early childhood experiences from his brief stay with his first
slave master, Aaron Anthony. Before Living with Anthony, Douglass lived with his grandmother
Betsey Bailey. Douglas did not know his maternal mother, Harriet Bailey, because due to her work

Examples Of Phonological Elements In The Book Thief
In a film, actors mimic phonological elements of their target character voices to create unique
characteristics of certain speakers. In the movie The Book Thief Emily Watson acted as Rosa
Hubermann, a mother in a German family. Watson attempted to imitate a German accent by adopting
into the native language, mimicking the phonological elements in German. People encounter difficulty
when speaking their second language (L2) as both their first (L1) and second language may be
phonologically distinct from one another. Resultantly, phonemes from L1 might be utilized to replace
the unfamiliar ones in L2 (Vokic 2010). This essay attempts to identify three phonological elements

In German, the consonant /v/ is being pronounced as phoneme /f/ in English. Emily Watson performed
changes in the movie clip such as everything (00:01:10), over (00:02:36), and starved (00:06:11). The
German /v/ is called a fricative consonant, meaning that the sound is articulated through a narrow gap
in the vocal tract. Inside the mouth, our upper front teeth and the lower lip move close to each other,
forming the narrow gap required for the articulation of the sound. Airstream that passes through the
gap encounters friction and thus the sound is generated (Russ 1994). The letter /v/ only appears as /v/
in a few native words, and the rest of them represent the phoneme /f/ (Joyce, Paul). The reason
towards this phenomenon can be attributed to the German orthography. In the first half of Middle
High German, the pronunciation of the consonant /v/ remains unchanged. However, as time evolved,
during the second half of Middle High German, the voiced consonant /v/ shifted and started being read
as the voiceless /f/ (Kodydek 2000). This shift in pronunciation remains influential nowadays, thus we
can easily find German replacing the consonant /v/ with the phoneme

Tomato Production Of The Tomato Plant
BIG QUESTION where do tomatoes come from and how can we maximise yield?
Alex Cottam
Tomatoes are edible fruits of Solanum lycopersicum , More commonly known as the tomato plant.
The plant originated in central America. Tomatoes are used in many dishes across the globe but were
first used in mexico. Tomatoes are grown in temperate climates around the world however more hardy
strains have been produced meaning some can survive at lower temperatures however to maximise
yield lower temperatures are not ideal. In cooler areas of the globe they can be grown in greenhouses.
They grow ,depending on the strain, anywhere from one metre tall to 3 metres tall although bush
variates have the maximum yield. Being so tall the plant often cannot support itself as they have weak
stems therefore support is required ie canes, stakes etc.
The tomato plant is a perennial (grows back each year) in its native climate and grown as an annual
(only survives one year then dies from lower temperatures) in temperate climates. In the greenhouse
the plant needs to be kept above 16 degrees celsius and below 32 degrees , otherwise the enzymes will
become denatured. ideally between 22 26 degrees as this will best imitate its native climate.
Temperature is one of the limiting factors of plant growth so is one of the key factors to achieve a high
yield. In order to keep it at these temperatures a greenhouse should be used or they should be planted
in their native climate however a greenhouse is more ideal

that is paranoid of

In regards to architecture, many of the Puritan homes and the few municipal buildings lacked the style of décor and detail of Old World buildings, particularly because statuary and painting were significant parts of the Catholic/Anglican ritual that the northern colonists were so eager to reject (Fingerhut, 1967, p523). Evidently, the religious devotion to the Protestant Christian belief was expressed in a more humble, minimalist manner through embroidery of floral designs and basic geometric patterns in architecture (Fingerhut, 1967, p523). Meetinghouses were the wood frame, municipal buildings in which served the public for religious purposes as well as secular purposes (Benes, 2012). These meetinghouses were often the physical centre of a township , and represented the significance of religion in the lives of the colonists (Benes, 2012). Moreover, Historian David Hall suggests that they were symbolic of the intimate link between the clergy and townsfolk a social evolution unlike the Old World, in which there was immense separation between such people (1984, ... The phrase comes from the film Rashomon, and it is about a murder and rape case. It also involves the different stories of each witness. Many times, when something happens, people tend to share about the specific event based on what they hear or see. In this case, point of view plays a great role. As far as the Rashomon film itself, there are many cases in society ranging from minor ones to major ones which use the Rashomon effect. For example, the Orenthal James Simpson (OJ) case. The case itself deals with a former football player, O.J. Simpson who is charged with the murder of his ex wife Nicole Brown Simpson and her friend Ron Goldman. What I find both interesting and revealing, is the fact that each witness that testifies, describes O.J. s mode in a different way based on their perception of him. On July 10, 1995, the murder trial of O.J. Simpson began with the testimony of his oldest daughter, 26, Arnelle Simpson. He was able to see what had happened to the local people who got caught in the middle of a war that they had no place in and how it affect all of them. That is what I researched, how the Japanese treated the people that they occupied and what had happened to the people during the Second World War. Before the start of the war many of the islands in the pacific had been inhabited by native people, and during the Age of Imperialism many islands had been taking over by European powers for their natural resources. In the past, questioning any of these could result in serious punishments. In both The Scarlett Letter and The House of Seven Gables, Hawthorne demonstrates the impact of going against the customs as well as social etiquette in the nineteenth century. To begin, in both novels, sin and knowledge are the source of all problems. In The Scarlett Letter, hypocrisy is a prominent theme. Hypocrisy in the eyes of religion, is a horrible sin to have. It has physically scarred Dimmesdale. Dimmesdale believes that God knows and He is merciful of his sins. His father was a foreman overseeing sugar cane cutters and helped deliver sand and gravel for a construction company. His mother did laundry, ran a grocery store and did other jobs on the sugar cane plantation. Roberto did odd jobs so he could help the family and buy himself a bicycle. Growing up, Roberto played baseball and participated in track and field. He won medals for the javelin throw and short distance races. Throwing the javelin strengthened his arm for throwing a baseball. Roberto was a very athletic boy. Roberto Clemente had four brothers and two sisters. He did have to work with his father loading and unloading trucks because his family was poor. He was very interested in baseball ever since he was young and played against teams in his neighborhood. He went to Vizcarrondo High School in ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 29. Choosing Unhampered Market Process Analyse of what would happen if the steering (injection of money) would be abandoned and a return to the unhampered market process was chosen instead. Systems exist to maintain the society and bring prosperity, the monetary system is one and have gone through different stages and uses in its development. Due to different needs, societies develop at different pace so, the advantages and disadvantages of monetary system varies from one society to another. Today, money is no more backed by commodity, not equal to gold reserves; it has only a promissory standard. Thus no standard can effectively determine true money value as it is constantly redefined by consumers with relative understanding of other products true values in the market. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The problem is that it takes time to produce. The too much money injected in the economy is chasing outputs of lesser values. Thus, less valuable products are produced and then kept alive in the market with this artificial government money. The values of our commodities are now unreal making them to cost much less than they would have in the unhampered market process. In Finland as well as well as other western states, most people that bought apartments with government backed loans could not have afforded it if the governments were not giving home loan interest tax deductions. Some profit calculations in the housing market investments are based on negative cash flow deductions and 100% deduction of the investment expenses. These types of investments would crash if we return to the unhampered market process, as the government will be unable to give those tax breaks or loan backups. All toxic firms that are creating ponzi schemes, and service providers like cleaning companies ran by people who would not be in the business without support money (startti raha) from the unemployment office will die off. There will be more unemployed people. Finland as a social welfare state cannot be the same in an unhampered market process because government will not be a producer. Cheap public services like free education, cheap medical care and social insurance like Kela would be more expensive. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 30. New World Art Analysis This weeks reading concentrated largely on the discovery of the new world and how Europe came to understand the peoples from these newly discovered lands. Of course since this discovery was long before the advent of camera or telecommunications, artists were commissioned to interpret logs and accounts of those who experienced the Americas first hand. This made way for a great deal of artistic interpretation as the artist translated these descriptions in pictographic form. The three assigned readings each concentrated on an artist and their approach to depicting the Americas. Of course each had their own positive and negative aspects, but one thing that remained common between the three ( Stradando s, de Bry s, and Burgkmair s) was the comparison ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In his work Stradano creates fantastical and mythical depictions of what the new world would look like. In a way I think this is really refreshing, because despite all of Burgkmair s efforts, he would always be playing a game of telephone, receiving his information second hand rather than grasping it with his own eyes. This in turn make his efforts a bit futile since they are not exactly scientific in their rendition. It is because of this that I find Stradano s approach so delightful, he did not pretend to know what the new world looked like, or how the people of that world acted or looked like. Instead he made illustrations that described a great deal of how the people of Europe felt about the discovery of the new world, as a placed filled with wonder and pleasure that was almost mystical to them. Instead of comparing the savage/civilized, he concentrated on depicting the discovery of the americas as an idealized mythical endeavor, equating it to something like birth of Venus or the Fall of Adam and Eve. Despite the fact that the treatment of europeans towards the Americans was dismal and unfair, they did discover the land, which in itself is a fantastical feat and for this reason Stradano and his patrons wittily made art that praised the expansion of the ... Under the cool shade of the arching canopy, the stillness and stifling silence imparts a feeling of serenity: even its name alludes to this, meaning place of grave meditation in the Zulu language. Despite this apparent lifelessness, it is considered one of the greatest examples of unique biodiversity in all of southern Africa. • 32. Classical Chinese Garden Of Suzhou And Japanese Dry... The Interpretation of Nature in Classical Chinese Garden of Suzhou and Japanese Dry Landscape Garden of Ryoan ji Luis Barragán, the influential Mexican minimalist architect and Pritzker Prize winner once said that, In the creation of a garden, the architect invites the partnership of the Kingdom of Nature. In a beautiful garden the majesty of nature is ever present, but it is nature reduced to human proportions and thus transformed into the most efficient haven against the aggressiveness of contemporary life. Such design principle, with a strong emphasis on the unity of man and nature as a way to build freedom and independence in the natural environment of gardens away from the unrest social political atmosphere, has not only been seen in Western minimalist architecture, but also has been extensively utilized in Classical Asian architecture. Classical Chinese Garden of Suzhou and Japanese Dry Landscape Garden are two typical examples that demonstrate such harmonious coexistence between artificiality and nature. Thus, with a focus on a comparison between the selected examples of Humble Administrator s Garden of Suzhou (see fig. 1) and Ryoan ji Dry Landscape Garden (see fig. 2), this essay aims to analyze the design techniques of the two gardens and how they respond to their social political and religious environments by conveying different interpretations of nature. Federico Lorca, the author of Blood Wedding, was one of many individuals divided over whether the people should have the oppression of the traditional ruling government or to have a new individually based era reign over Spain. Being a homosexual male inside such difficult times, Lorca was in favor for change. He wrote this play using a real life event that he read in the newspaper about a bride that ran away with the son of an enemy family. The events he read and the events in the play are a time capsule of the emotions distributed by both those for and those against change in Spain. Groom, the embodiment of the traditional Republican government, was deeply affected by the death of his father and brother, however this represents the weakening of the Spanish government due to the civil disputes within it. The Fascist leaders of Italy aided in the Spanish Civil War, they urged the Republican Government to wage war to prevent further uprisings by the Rebels, which were the individuals fighting for freedom ( The Spanish Civil War ). Groom and Mother s relationship is used by Lorca to portray how he views the traditional Spanish government and how it is being influenced by Fascist thought through a concept similar to a parent and their child. The ideas of Individual freedom are personified through Leonardo and the Horse. • 35. The Bilateral Relations Between Malaysia And China Malaysia is recognized as one of the Southeast Asia countries that have undergone economic prosperity. Therefore in this essay, I will argue on two major factors that have promoted the economic development in Malaysia which are the bilateral trade relations with China and the regional stability in Southeast Asia. In the first section of this essay, I will provide a brief overview of Malaysia s economic development trajectory in the early post independence period. Next, in the first part of the second section, I will highlight on the bilateral trade relations between Malaysia and China as the main factor for Malaysia s economic expansion. Following the second part, I will emphasize on the importance of regional stability in Southeast Asia in facilitating Malaysia s economic growth. Lastly, in the third section, I will provide the conclusion of this essay. Compared to other Southeast Asia countries, Malaysia had begun its self government at a good pace with the economic sector as its focus. In the first decade of post independence period, the government had implemented the Import Substitution Industrialization (ISI) strategy to stimulate the economic growth and socio economic modernization. It encouraged states to become less dependent on developed state while urging them to focus on domestic production to substitute the previously imported manufacturing goods (Dadzie 2013: 138). • 37. Analysis Of The Great Dictator Charlie Chaplin The Great Dictator written and directed by Charlie Chaplin is a film that circles around two characters, which are both played by Chaplin. The movie begins in a time and place similar to one where Hitler had risen to power, and started his annihilation of the Jews. Chaplin plays both the amnesiac Jewish barber and Hynkel (Hitler), the dictator of Tomainia. Hynkel though a powerful and ruthless dictator is often shown to be comically dwarfed both in height and intelligence. His right hand commander, or trash guy, seems to be the one behind some of his plans. He compliments Hynkel with words of praise then proceeds to hint at ways to destroy the Jews, and take over the neighboring states. But as the film progresses, we see how Chaplin portrays Hynkel as being utterly ridiculous; the man cannot seem to do anything without growing angry at his own incompetence. Movies like this, and a similar film, Inglorious Bastards , portray Hitler as a man who in the face of death or immediate anger will quiver and blubber nonsense or the next second muster enough anger to rant as loud as possible (ex: Cheese and Crackers!) I think Chaplin did good capturing the Fuhrer s mannerisms in such an ironic way. Some of his mannerisms include the feeble, affected hand salute; Inclination for striking ludicrous attitudes; The fabulous fits of rage and violent facial contortions. There were many themes I noticed in the film, and one of the most prevalent themes was the use of satire. The use of humor and exaggeration provided a constant comic relief from the actual reality of what was going on during this time. Although he did state at one point that he was unaware, or not fully aware of Adolf s actions and intentions. According to an article, Chaplin wrote in his biography that he regretted making the The Great Dictator: Had I known of the actual horrors of the German concentration camps, I could not have made the Great Dictator; I could not have made fun of the homicidal insanity of the Nazis. I found it interesting that in a way his film was foreshadowing history itself. At the beginning of the film, the detective missile continues to aim at the Jewish soldier, no matter how many times he changes directions. It felt like ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Frederick Douglass s Influence On American Society Frederick Augustus Washington Bailey, or better known, Frederick Douglass was born in February 1818 to Harriet Bailey in Talbot County, Maryland. For a long time, Frederick did not know his birthdate or his family lineage and it haunted him till the day he died. Frederick Douglas family lineage reach as far back into the beginnings of America and maybe even further into American prehistory. Douglass was believed to have Native American blood in him. Just from the description of him, his broad forehead, heavy cheekbones, and yellow brown skin (Preston, pg.9) and his childhood master calling him little Indian boy (Preston, pg.9) made a lot of people assume that he was. Douglass once recalled about the time when a stranger on a Hudson River steamer who took me for one of the noble red men of the far West. ...Douglas replied that he was not an Indian but a Negro, he said the man turned away in disgust. (Preston, pg.9) Frederick Douglass was proud that he was a Negro even though he had no problems with Native Americans. Frederick Douglass passion for the abolition of slavery may be seen as arising from his early childhood experiences from his brief stay with his first slave master, Aaron Anthony. Before Living with Anthony, Douglass lived with his grandmother Betsey Bailey. People encounter difficulty when speaking their second language (L2) as both their first (L1) and second language may be phonologically distinct from one another. In German, the consonant /v/ is being pronounced as phoneme /f/ in English. Emily Watson performed changes in the movie clip such as everything (00:01:10), over (00:02:36), and starved (00:06:11). The German /v/ is called a fricative consonant, meaning that the sound is articulated through a narrow gap in the vocal tract. Inside the mouth, our upper front teeth and the lower lip move close to each other, forming the narrow gap required for the articulation of the sound. Airstream that passes through the gap encounters friction and thus the sound is generated (Russ 1994). The letter /v/ only appears as /v/ in a few native words, and the rest of them represent the phoneme /f/ (Joyce, Paul). The reason towards this phenomenon can be attributed to the German orthography. In the first half of Middle High German, the pronunciation of the consonant /v/ remains unchanged. However, as time evolved, during the second half of Middle High German, the voiced consonant /v/ shifted and started being read as the voiceless /f/ (Kodydek 2000). This shift in pronunciation remains influential nowadays, thus we can easily find German replacing the consonant /v/ with the phoneme ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 40. Tomato Production Of The Tomato Plant BIG QUESTION where do tomatoes come from and how can we maximise yield? Alex Cottam Tomatoes are edible fruits of Solanum lycopersicum , More commonly known as the tomato plant. The plant originated in central America. Tomatoes are used in many dishes across the globe but were first used in mexico. Tomatoes are grown in temperate climates around the world however more hardy strains have been produced meaning some can survive at lower temperatures however to maximise yield lower temperatures are not ideal. In cooler areas of the globe they can be grown in greenhouses. They grow ,depending on the strain, anywhere from one metre tall to 3 metres tall although bush variates have the maximum yield. Being so tall the plant often cannot support itself as they have weak stems therefore support is required ie canes, stakes etc. The tomato plant is a perennial (grows back each year) in its native climate and grown as an annual (only survives one year then dies from lower temperatures) in temperate climates. In the greenhouse the plant needs to be kept above 16 degrees celsius and below 32 degrees , otherwise the enzymes will become denatured. ideally between 22 26 degrees as this will best imitate its native climate. Temperature is one of the limiting factors of plant growth so is one of the key factors to achieve a high yield. In order to keep it at these temperatures a greenhouse should be used or they should be planted in their native climate however a greenhouse is more ideal ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
