The Right to Die
Analysis The right to die has been brought to the media and public spotlight through the cases of
Karen Ann Quinlan, Cruzan v. Missouri, and Vacco v. Quill. This issue has been the topic of heated
debate for years in the religious, scientific, and political community. This is because this topic ties into
many communities and effects a large amount of people. These cases brought the right to die debate to
the religious community. The reason for this is from the use of life support which many believe should
not be used at all because people should die naturally as they believe god intended. This belief also
ties into the matter of physician assisted suicide brought up in the Vacco v. Quill case, one should not
be given a lethal dose of drugs and should die naturally. The publics opinion on the right to die has a
drastic range, due to the fact this matter spans all groups of people. A popular opinion from the public
is that the government has no right to decide whether someone can or cannot end their lives,
pertaining to the case of Vacco v. Quill and euthanasia. This statement is a very true one, why should
the government be involved in the death of a free person? This may be the case for euthanasia, but
there is another factor in the right to die debate. That other factor is removing one from life support.
This issue is brought up in both the case of Karen Ann Quinlan and in the case of Cruzan v. Missouri.
It is illegal to remove a patient from life support without

The Importance Of War In All Quiet On The Western Front
Erich Maria Remarque s novel, All Quiet on the Western Front, depicts the true horror and brutality of
war, and has shown people all over the world what it can actually means to fight for one s country.
Although it may seem as though going to war is brave and honorable, that is not always the case.
Through descriptive and graphic scenes, Remarque depicts the futility of war and unveils the terrors
experienced by soldiers fighting on the Western Front during World War I. The theme of the
meaninglessness of war is found throughout Remarque s novel, accompanied by the feelings of
hopelessness of the soldiers when they realize it. The novel conveys that after fighting for so long, a
soldier begins to realize that the killing is futile and results only in unnecessary deaths. The deaths on
the Western Front were often in vain, because no territory was every really gained or lost during the
front s battles. The doubt of the soldiers and their purpose can be seen in Kropp s words, when he
ponders the morality of war: We are here to protect our fatherland. And the French are over there to
protect their fatherland. Now who s in the right? (page 203). ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Paul, the main character, often reflects on how war can damage a person both mentally and physically.
He understands that even if the soldiers were to return to their former lives, they would not know what
to do with themselves, because they have changed and no longer identify with civilians. This can be
seen as Paul reflects on his life while he is in the hospital: I am young. I am twenty years old; yet I
know nothing of life but despair, deaths, fear [...] I see how peoples are set against one another, and in
silence, unknowingly, foolishly, obediently, innocently slay one another (page 263). This quote also
expands on the theme mentioned above Paul sees how people are purposely set against one another

Two Approaches Of Pragmatics
According to Schmitt (2010), there are two approaches of pragmatics, a cognitive or psychological
approach which is exploring the relation between linguistic meaning of utterances, the
decontextualized, what speakers mean by their utterances on a particular situation and how hearer
interpret those utterances on those particular situations. Cognitive approach was developed by
philosophers Austin, Searle, and Grice. On the other hand, social pragmatics approach which focuses
on the communicative exchanges between individuals in social, cultural and other contextual factors.
Brown and Levinson (1978 1987) introduced face model of politeness to this approach.
The main objective of pragmatics is to study on how non native speakers comprehend and produce
speech acts in a target language. Speech act is not the whole of pragmatics, but is perhaps currently the
most important part of the subject. Many of the topics addressed in both narrow and broad views
derive from three major pragmatic theories: Speech Acts, Conversational Implicatures, ... Show more

In other words, indirectness is a widely used conversational strategy, hence people reduce the
unpleasant message contained in requests and other statement. In indirect speech acts the speaker
communicates to the hearer more than he actually says by way of depending on their mutually shared
background information either both linguistic and nonlinguistic together with the powers of rationality
and inference on the part of the hearer. To be more specific, to explain the indirect speech acts can be

hearers, when speakers want to increase the force of the message communicated, or when want to

Emperor Jimmu
Emperor Jimmu, the first Emperor of Japan, officially formed Japan in 660 Before Common Era
(BCE.) Throughout Japan s 2600 years of history, there have been many wars and conflicts fought
across Japan and the Pacific region. Through the ages, Japan has always had an Emperor at the head of
its government, although this role has changed through time. Japan saw many economic changes, the
biggest of which occurred after World War II (WWII). With Japan s history, woven in war throughout
the Pacific has become a model of strong political standing and near immeasurable economic growth.
Japanese chronicles record Jimmu s expedition heading eastward from Hyuga in 607 BCE, continuing
along Japan s inland sea, subduing tribes as he went, and ending in Yamato, where he centered his
power (Jimmu Legendary Emperor of Japan, 2016.) Emperor Jimmu, formally Jimmu Tenno, is said
to be a descendent of the Sun Goddess Amaterasu. The current Emperor of Japan, His Royal Majesty
(HIM) Akihito, is a direct descendent of over 50 generations of Jimmu s bloodline. ... Show more

feudalism was being developed and created, there was a rapid decline of the semi independent

The World Of Sports Arenas
Introduction
In the world of sports arenas there is one that stands as a pivotal high point above almost all other
stadiums. The University of Southern California s mammoth of a stadium, the Los Angeles Memorial
Coliseum is one of the biggest sports stadiums in college football, and has been a standard by which
others are judge. Being declared a land mark by the state of California after nearly 80 years of use, this
structure has had many different uses other than its current purpose of housing one of the most
dominate teams in college football, the Trojans. Since its opening day the stadium has set world record
in attendance and then beaten the same records hosting some of the most famous people in the world.
(Coliseum History) Throughout the 92 years of the stadiums existences many changes have taken
place and the facility has had to adapt to the new century. Advances in construction and design have
allowed the Trojans to stay current and competitive with the new stadiums. One thing remains, and
that is the fact that USC Trojan fans love the unique feel and history that has been made throughout
the walls of the stadium.
History of facility Erected in 1923 the Trojans did not waste time until the first footballs game was
played. On October 6th the team faced off against Pomona College finding their first home victory in
the new stadium. In the first opening game the Trojans played in front of a 12,836 people which was a
relatively small number of people considering they

Blood On The Forge Analysis
Exploitation of African Americans Seen in Southern and Northern Environments as Accurately
Depicted in Attaway s Blood on the Forge
William Attaway s novel, Blood on the Forge, displays a family torn apart as a product of systematic
exploitation. In the compelling narrative, the Moss brothers, Big Mat, Chinatown, and Melody,
migrate to the north in motivation of Big Mat committing the murder of his riding boss. As they begin
to adjust, their perception of the north s assumed and rumored opportunities quickly conforms to the
reality of what is actually offered. Through plot lines of the very act of migrating, acclimating to
regenerated labor and norms, and, finally, the dissolution of the brothers identities and close family
connection, it is observed that their exodus to the north is just as empty of benefits as the south.
Attaway accomplishes depicting an accurate account of the contrasting exploitation that occurred in
both the north and the south by portraying the Moss brothers demise as a result of their migration from
a systematic, rural setting to an industrial, diminishing, and, ultimately, unfamiliar environment along
with how the two regions parallel in similarities concerning economical and social consequences,
permanently affecting the brothers altogether mentally and physically. Where there was great potential
for a rebirth of opportunity and success, the result was a contrasting reality of misery and permanent
damage.
Attaway subtlety foreshadows the mandatory reformation, hard labor, and levels of exploitation that
were to come in the depiction of how the Moss brothers were transported to the north. They were
bunched up like hogs headed for market, heading into the unknown (Attaway 38). Attaway ties a few
key moments of historical allusion in the description of this particular mode of transportation. To put
in context, when Africans were relocated over to America for the purpose of serving as slaves, the
transportation was quite similar. It was dark and crowded, just as Attaway describes this scene. Warm
urine began to flow as they had no choice but to relieve themselves just as the Africans had no other
option but to alleviate their bladders (Attaway 38). The stark imagery of the

Societal Views of Women in the Victorian Era in Henrik Ibsen s A Doll s House
A Doll s House, by Henrik Ibsen, creates a peephole into the lives of a family in the Victorian Era. The
play portrays a female viewpoint in a male dominated society. The values of the society are described
using the actions of a woman, Nora, who rebels against the injustices inflicted upon her gender.
Women s equality with men was not recognized by society in the late 1800 s. Rather, a woman was
considered a doll, a child, and a servant. Nora s alienation reveals society s assumptions and values
about gender.
A woman was considered by society to be a doll because she was expected to be subordinate to her
husband s whims. Referring to a ball that she ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
She alludes to a child s character when she says, everything I think of seems so silly and insignificant
(26). Torvald replies with a condescending statement: Does my little Nora acknowledge that at last?
(26). Torvald expects only childish talk from her. He even tells her she is little, like a child, and
although he expects nothing more than child s talk from her, he does expect to be obeyed.
Nora plays the part of a slave in her subservience to her husband, for she is supposed to abide by his
rules and be dependent on him. She is not supposed to think for herself and repeatedly told so by those
around her. When speaking about Nora in her presence, Torvald says, She is so terribly self willed
(55). Nora has a conversation with Mrs. Linde, who also tells her, Don t be self willed (57). Torvald
tells her, I will advise you and direct you (64). Nora is expected to be a dependent slave who follows
her husband s advice and directions. Women were also legally dependent upon men. The society s
laws of that time even required the male to cosign everything that a woman had to sign. Nora s naivete
in forging her father s signature and trying to pay off the loan further emphasizes Victorian society s
assumptions about women s inability to deal with a man s world.
These assumptions about women caused their gender value to be vastly

The Strange Case of Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde is a gothic horror novella written by Robert Louis
Stevenson in the Victorian era. The novella follows a well respected doctor Henry Jekyll and his
struggle between good and evil when he takes a potion and becomes Mr Hyde.
Robert Louis Stevenson the author of the novella The Strange Case of Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde was
born in Edinburgh in 1850 and died at the young age of forty four. He wrote the book in 1886. As a
child he was very close to his nurse and when he was ill she used to read him

When describing the door, Stevenson includes detail about the surrounding and the atmosphere as
being dark weather, foggy and mysterious: a black winter morning . The door also represents mystery,
as we do not know the contents of the building: showed no window, nothing but a door . The building
is described as being a certain sinister block which suggests it looks evil. The atmosphere is
unwelcoming around the door as it has neither bell nor knocker which shows that Mr Hyde did not
want any visitors.
Most of the changes from Dr Jekyll into Mr Hyde take place in the laboratory. This is an odd setting to
use, as it is a symbol of what could be the origin of evil. Stevenson insinuates this by the way he uses
the butler (Poole) to say that it used to be a dissecting room this is where many dead bodies will have
been experimented on. Since the symbols of evil in this novella are Mr Hyde and his use of medicine
this could also be the case as the potion that went wrong, and created and evil individual, was made
here. When we later learn
the door leads to a courtyard, which allows Mr Hyde into the laboratory this begins to feel strange, as
we do not understand why Mr
Hyde is going into Dr Jekyll s grounds.
Our next setting is at the murder of Sir Danvers Carew where once again there was fog, which had

are many styles and techniques used by artists to capture the eye of a viewer and draw them into the

by Robert Campin (Master of Flémalle), circa 1425 1430s. This beautiful triptych was painted in oil

The small Christ figure is carrying a cross, a possible reference to the knowledge of what he is being
sent to do for the people. The way Mary is seated shows her acquiescence towards Gods resolve; she
is so devoted that she would do anything God requested or required of her. On the right flank of the
triptych sits Joseph in his workshop working on a carpentry project. The hues in this scene are more
neutral throughout with some darker accents in Josephs robes and headpiece. Behind Joseph a Flemish
city scene is visible through the open window, baring semblance to the fact that the people are going
about their normal daily activities, unaware of the miraculous event taking place just yards away.
Inside the shop, Joseph is drilling holes in a piece of wood that will be used in the wine making
process; this subtle reference to wine refers to the blood of Christ. There are several traps set in
various areas of the shop, these traps reference God s plan to trap Satan by sending Jesus to live
among the people. On the left flank of the triptych the donors, a husband and wife, kneel in the garden
outside the door of Mary and Josephs house. The hues in this panel are not as dark, still quite a bit of
neutral shades, however, the husband is draped in black attire while his wife who is positioned behind

Technical Decision Questions On Programming The Fms And...
The first decision discussed in programming the FMS and ACARS will be choosing the correct
runway to request data for. Choosing the runway is an analytical decision, as information needs to be
analyzed correctly. An airport s ATIS will list the active runways in use for departures. If multiple
runways are being used for departure, pilots will need to anticipate the runway they will use. Pilot will
use their location relative to the runways, direction of departure, and previous experience to decide on
a runway. Pilot s previous experience can be heuristic as certain airport conditions lead to specific
runway operations. It is sometimes referred to as tribal knowledge when anticipating the correct
runway. Sometimes airports will use a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
There can also be a runway change after the initial assignment, which leads to the task starting all
over. Time is the biggest stressor in this decision. A pilot always wants to anticipate the correct runway
so that it will reduce their workload during taxing. If they picked the wrong runway they then have a
lot of work starting the request task over in a short period of time.
The second decision looked at will be deciding if the received data is correct and valid to accept and
use. This decision can be either intuitive analytical. Analytical is the correct way to make the decision
however. The decision is analytical because pilots are supposed to verify all the information that was
used to compute the takeoff data such as wind, altimeter, flap setting, and runway. That takes
additional time but is the correct method. Most pilots make the decision using intuitive decisions
making. Pilots receive preliminary takeoff data during their preflight. If the v speeds on the final
takeoff data received is within a knot or two of the preliminary takeoff data v speeds pilots will use
that as their check. They can accomplish that much quicker and use it as a shortcut. If any of the
information isn t correct for the situation it is important pilots catch it or it can lead to invalid data
being used. Time is the biggest pressure in this decision. This decision is generally made while taxing
which is a high

Treatments for Psychological Disorders
One out of three Americans appear to have needed mental health treatment at some point within the
past two years, according to a study done by Napa Chapter. Mental health treatments, otherwise
known as therapies , have become an increasingly common practice among the American people. The
cause being the increase in the diagnosing of mental health disorders. With the number of new, and the
increasingly common disorders, a number of therapy treatments have been developed, the most
common non medicated one being Psychotherapy. The most common types of Psychotherapy include:
Cognitive Behavioral therapy, Dialectical Behavior therapy, Interpersonal therapy, and, family focused
therapy.
Cognitive Behavioral therapy, otherwise known as CBT, is a treatment that focuses on the examination
of the relationship between thoughts, feelings, and behaviors, and finding the patterns that may lead
people to self destructive actions. An example of CBT is, if a person suffering from depression thinks
of themselves as unimportant , they are encouraged to think oppositely by doing a number of
exercises. One of the most common of these exercises is to keep a chart of negative thoughts or
feelings, and for the patient to counteract them with more positive things. For example, if one is
feeling unimportant , they can counteract it with, I am important, because if I hadn t gotten that

The Ring Fencing Of A Bank
We now going to critically assess the statement that the ring fencing of a bank s retail banking services
from their more risky investment, wholesale and proprietary banking activities, scheduled to take
place in 2018 2019, is the last and most necessary reform of the UK banking system to prevent a
recurrence of a major financial crisis such as the one the occurred in 2008 2010.
Ring fencing is the separation of all the Bank s critical banking services from their investment and
wholesale banking services . This means to segregate the retail banking from investment banking to
protect consumers from systemic problems with the system.
On 4th February 2013 the Financial Services (Banking Reform) Bill (the Bill) was introduced to
Parliament. This Bill has sought to implement the ring fencing proposals of the UK Independent
Commission of Banking (ICB), which is also known as the Vickers report. The Bill also represents the
UK s response to wider international calls to structurally reform banks, such as the Liikanen reports
proposals on reforming the structure of the EU banking sector .
The ICB was announced after the formation of the coalition government in 2010, and its

Persuasive Essay On Cryonics
Cryonics is a impressive idea and very interesting, although I wouldn t like some of the parts after

Stan the man kubrick Essay
Stan the man kubrick
It is easy to look into the eyes of a motion picture and dissect it for its form, style, underlying
meanings, and other characteristics that separate it from a film and a classic. There are concrete
elements that can be found in all classics that make it such a powerful and remarkable work. One of
these elements is undoubtedly the concept of the auteur theory. The Auteur theory is described as a
filmmaker, usually a director, who exercises creative control over his or her works and has a strong
personal style. Next to this definition should be the line for more help see Stanley Kubrick. He

Objectives Of A Balanced Scorecard
Introduction The balanced scorecard consists of four critical performance measures that managers can
use to align their company s initiatives with organizational strategy. It is one of the most important
developments in management accounting, particularly in strategic planning and control because it
offers a balanced view of how non financial and financial measures can be casually linked together
(Shutibhinyo, 2014). The purpose of this research paper is to provide a brief history of the balanced
scorecard, the components of a balanced scorecard, and finally an in depth comparative analysis of
how two companies use the balanced scorecard to meet its strategic objectives.
Origins of the Balanced Scorecard Robert S. Kaplan and David P. Norton developed the first balanced
scorecard in the early 1990s. Kaplan and Norton identify the balanced scorecard as translating an
organization s mission and strategy into a comprehensive set of performance measures that provides
the framework for a strategic measurement and management system (Kaplan and Norton, 1996). The
balanced scorecard is a tool in which managers can focus attention on four critical performance
measures: financial perspective, customer perspective, process perspective, and learning and growth
perspective (Kaplan and Norton, 1996). However, the first balanced scorecard that was published did
not demonstrate to managers how the four strategic objectives fit to form the company s overall
strategy. In other

Strengths And Weaknesses Of Balanced Scorecard
The Balanced Scorecard (BSC) is thoroughly sustainable. Because when the proper management can
be done and when the formulation process can be done impeccably, then the sustainable Balanced
Scorecard (BSC) can be incorporated. There are some sorts of features that may help in maintaining
the sustainability. The perspectives should also be well formulated. The financial and customer s
attitude helps in maintaining the total business organization perfectly and then the internal business
process can be run in a perfect manner so that the sustainability can be measured. Besides, the point is
the Balanced Scorecard (BSC) is sustainable universally and it can be used in any moment to pursue
the performance measurement activities.
BSC and Other Performance Management methods
Many performance management methods have been adopted by organizations to maintain their
performance. These methods assist organizations in different ways, each having its strengths and
weaknesses. This section illustrates some of the management methods and tries to compare it with the
BSC approach.

Sexual Fantasy Within The Odyssey
Cassidy Bulger
Professor Isser
Montserrat
September 22, 2015
Sexual Fantasy Within The Odyssey In the Odyssey, by Homer, Homer suggests that women can be
seductive traps that prevent or delay men from reaching their goals. The women that Odysseus
encounters on his journey home in The Odyssey all represent a different sexual fantasy figure in the
eyes of a male, and serve as a distraction that he must work around. Although the three women that
Odysseus encounters on his travels are desirable to him, the only thing that he wants is to get home to
his devoted wife. The soft, alluring, pastoral sensuality of Calypso, the purity, youth and innocence of
the young Nausicaa, and the adventurously sexy Circe are no contest to the loyal and faithful
Penelope. Penelope holds aspects of each of these three women, making her the most sought after by
Odysseus. The goddess Calypso resides in a cave on an island. The lush and blossomed forest that
surrounds her cave symbolizes the idea of and new life, whereas the cave itself represents a womb.
Around her cave the woodland was in bloom,...Four separate springs flowed with clear water,
crisscrossing channels as they meandered through meadows lush with parsley and blossoming violets
(Odyssey, 5. 67 76). These symbols of fertility are important to males, especially during the time
period that the Odyssey portrays when a woman s primary duty was to birth children and raise them.
Odysseus was forced to stay on the island with Calypso for

Effects of Illegal Whaling in The Southern Ocean Whale...
Whaling in the Southern Ocean Whale Sanctuary (SOWS) is an ongoing issue despite laws and
regulations prohibiting commercial hunting in these waters. Whaling fleets from Japan use scientific
research to justify continued whaling in the Southern Ocean. Weak enforcement of the regulations set
up in the SOWS has allowed countries, most notably Japan, to continue their hunts with little
interference. If whaling continues in the SOWS, it may lead to irreversible effects to the ecosystem of
the Southern Ocean.
A steady decrease in whale populations can have a top down effect on many other species in the
ecosystem, especially penguin, seal, and krill. The reasoning is because whales are a keystone species

The Southern Ocean Whale Sanctuary is located in waters surrounding Antarctica.

Whaling inside the southern ocean is strictly prohibited for commercial purposes; countries are
allowed to kill a certain number of whales per year for scientific research.
Ecosystem
To look at the ecosystem of the Southern Ocean, we will be referencing the food web created by
Laws.
The whales that are going to be focused are species of baleen whales found in the southern ocean.
These species are the fin whale, the blue whale, the sei whale, the humpback whale, and the minke
whale. As shown in the food web, the main food source of these whales is krill. This is important to
note in regards to the issues of prey switching, as well as krill surplus, which will be discussed later in
the research. (WHAT IS A BALEEN WHALE???)
Illegal Whale Hunting
Issue
The issue behind whaling in the Southern Ocean is mainly attributed to the permit of scientific
whaling in the southern ocean. Allowing scientific whaling in the Southern Ocean has sparked a
debate about what is considered research, and what is considered whaling, and many are coming to
realize there is a fine line between the two. Currently, the only country performing scientific whaling
in the Southern Ocean is Japan (Peace, 2010). The problem with Japans scientific whaling program is
that many believe it is being used as a cover for commercial whaling. According to Peace, most

Human Genetic Engineering And Eugenics
Human genetic engineering and eugenics have been a largely controversial topic over the past
decades. Eugenics can be popularly defined as the science of improving and enhancing a human
population or person through manipulating the human genes, selective breeding, and sterilization. The
end goal and desired result of eugenics is to basically create a human race or people with more
desirable biological, physical, or psychological traits. Eugenics and genetic modification is a current,
pressing subject; in April 2015, a group of Chinese researchers, used a new gene editing technology,
called CRISPR to [tinker] with the genomes of human embryos (Adams). Presently, according to CQ
Researcher, New genetic technologies allow scientists to delete a mutant gene and insert a healthy
one, which...has the potential to eliminate inherited diseases, such as cystic fibrosis. However, these
techniques have only been used on embryos belonging to laboratory animals. The big question here is
whether or not science and technology are crossing an ethical boundary by using these techniques and
performing genetic modification on human embryos. Do humans have the right to play God and alter
nature?
Following the background and history of genetic engineering and eugenics, it can definitely be seen
why ethicists and scientists are concerned. The concept and idea of passing on heritable traits was
introduced by English naturalist Charles Darwin in his work The Origins of Species in 1859. Soon to

This is a regular meal in the daily life of some places in Africa (Meel, B. n.d.). The red clay that is
used most often comes from clay pits. Some people go to the pits and get dirt for themselves. Others

clay is stored in pouches on a belt and eaten throughout the day as the person desires (Why People Eat

Southern United States Geophagia in the United States is most common in the south among African

vinegar and salt to dirt and clay in zip lock bags or glass jars (Schmidt, W. E. n.d.).

Multimedia Big Data Management Processing And Analysis
VII. MULTIMEDIA BIG DATA MANAGEMENT PROCESSING AND ANALYSIS After
categorizing multimedia big data, the next important phase in the data management cycle is its
processing and analysis. So far, the possible types, sources and perspectives of multimedia big data
have been highlighted; but this is only the first of the necessary stages in big data management.
Generally, the stages involved in big data processing and analysis include data acquisition, data
extraction, data representation, modeling, analysis and interpretation [21]. These stages are illustrated
in Figure 5 and are explained briefly also. Fig. 5. Steps in Big Data Processing (Source: [22]) A.
Acquisition and Recording This is the first step in the data processing cycle. It is mostly concerned
with the sources of big data and techniques required to capture the data. As it has been discussed in
prior parts of this paper, big data can originate from multiple sources and therefore requires an
intelligent process to acquire and store this raw data. Another relevant aspect of this phase is metadata
generation and acquisition. This acquisition of the right metadata enables for a description of the
recorded data and how exactly it is being measured. B. Information Extraction and Cleaning In some
cases, the information gotten from various sources may not be ready for analysis. Such data usually
contains images, audio, or in some cases they are gotten from environmental sensors such as
surveillance cameras.

The Department Of Homeland Security And Homeland Defense
The defense, security, and safety American citizens enjoy each and every day is a result of dedicated
professionals committed to Homeland Security and Homeland Defense. These broad initiatives
require well defined missions, organized and focused tasking, and finally, clearly understood duties,
responsibilities, and operations. Organizations charged with these responsibilities must be better
resourced than those of the enemy. Success in each of these objectives requires a well organized
infrastructure with clear mission sets. The afore mentioned areas of responsibility, related planning,
and resource/personnel management are fluid (rightfully so) and are constantly reevaluated,
restructured, and/or reinforced to best counterattack our Nation s vulnerabilities before they become
casualties.
In its very simplest terms, Homeland Security s focus starts from the United States borders and works
inward. At the forefront leading this initiative is the Department of Homeland Security (DHS). DHS
was established following the devastating terrorist attacks carried out on September 11th, 2001 in an
attempt to safeguard the American people, US soil, and American values (DHS, 2016). DHS has a
crucial mission set that includes securing the nation from it s many threats and requires the utmost
dedication of its ~250,000 trained professionals.

Black Ivory Research Paper
Outside of the potential cooperation problems between local and national governments, there is also
the cultural issue that many farmers and villagers do not respect elephants. Because elephants are
creatures of habit, they follow the same migration paths that their ancestors have for decades. Due to
the increased agriculture in African villages, elephants often cross right through small farms or
villages, destroying crops and small structures. Many African villagers who have had these encounters
with elephants do not understand the Western fascination and obsession with saving an animal they
perceive as a large, more destructive cockroach.
Another issue is the perspective of those in Asia. Ivory has always been a symbol of wealth in Asia.
Those who can afford to buy full tusks often commission experienced artists to carve intricate scenes
and designs into the tusk for display in their homes. Although the resulting artwork is beautiful and the
preservation of tradition is important, another medium should be used in order to create these art
pieces, one that does not result in the decimation of a keystone species.

Military Status Protection Covers The Employment Rights Of...
Military status protection covers the employment rights of military veterans and reservists. The two
most important laws that protect the rights of veterans and reservists are the Vietnam Era
Readjustment Assistance Act (VERA) of 1974 and the Uniformed Service Employment and

individuals who serve or have served in the Armed Forces, National Guard, or other uniformed

253). The opening of chapter 26, Brontë (p. 253) introduces the morning of the matrimony between
Jane and Mr Rochester, to concluding the chapter in a tone of solitary helplessness, disillusionment
and a loss of purpose, as Jane professed, the whole consciousness of my life lorn, my love lost, my
hope quenched, my faith death struck, swayed full and mighty above me in one sullen mass (p. 262).
Mr Rochester exercises the Victorian female dichotomy through his use of angelic imagery in his
representation of Jane. Mr Rochester associates Jane s innocence and inexperience to her youth by
continually addressing her youth, being a young girl , with untainted clear eyes , whereas Bertha is
described in such a manner as to take the form of a red eyed demon (p. 259). Bertha s physical
representations, by Mr Rochester, is synonymous with her mental

Essay on Living by Different Standards
Living by Different Standards
Who do these athletes think they are? Do they think they can kill, rape, rob, assault, steel, and use
drugs simply because they make millions of dollars? And do they think they can get away with these
things? Why are today s sports stars nothing more than thugs and criminals?
QUIT ACTING SO HIGH AND MIGHTY, SO SELF RIGHTEOUS.
And no I m not talking to those over paid, drug addicted, criminally inclined athletes. I m talking to
the public ? the critics and the so called fans of college and professional sports. The people that
apparently have never done anything wrong in their entire lives. The people that throw the first stone
without guilt, like they re skipping it across some ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
People believe that sports have been taken over by criminals, as though college and professional teams
recruit out of the prison yards instead of the schoolyards. And the NFL, or as the clever among us
would say ? the National Felons League (how witty!), has taken the brunt of public criticism.
But there is no truth in the widely held belief that sport and crime go hand in hand. Little research and
few studies have actually been done on the prevalence of crime among athletes or the levels of crime
in sport compared to the rest of society, but the public obviously doesn t need studies to form an
opinion (Coakley, 157). When you open a daily newspaper and have to wade threw the mucky
headlines of rape and battery just to get to a box score, it s no wonder people think that all athletes are
criminals. Simply put, athletes live by different standards then everyone else. And it s unfair. They re
in the spotlight and for some reason this means they should do no wrong even though they re far from
perfect just like everyone else. But being imperfect seems to be unacceptable for an athlete.
This idea is partly the media s fault because they shine the lights on the athletes and in turn blind the
public from the truth. As Michael Irving once said, You guys write this and say this about players, and
criticize us, but half the time your information is

Credit Card At A Later Time
1. When you get to the point of arranging for payment with the family, and the family is going to pay
with one or more credit cards, what are your next steps?
Do you take their Credit Card to the back office and create a cash receipt in HMIS and swipe the
Credit Card on an EPD (toaster)? Our policy at this location is to require some form of payment with
completion of amount owed prior to rendering of services. It is our typical stance that we swipe the
card immediately creating a cash receipt even if this involves multiple credit cards. Our machine is
located in the back, through a door and in the corner. That s quite a distance from the family and some
time for the OM to stop what they re doing and get into HMIS to process the payment.
Do you take the Credit Card information and process the receipt as a manual key credit card at a later
time? We rarely if ever do a manual key as the swipe method works very well.
If neither of the above two are done, what is your process for charging a customer s credit card?
2. In the future, if there was a credit card device located inside the arrangement room that would allow
you to enter the HMIS contract number and total amount to charge on the credit card, and then swipe
the credit card to charge the customer and during this process, the cash receipt was automatically
created in HMIS and posted, would you utilize this device/process? Absolutely, I have already

The Effects of Schizophrenia on the Family
The Effects of Schizophrenia on the Family First off I would like to tell you what exactly
schizophrenia is. Schizophrenia is a brain disease, with concrete and specific symptoms due to
physical and biochemical changes in the brain. This illness strikes young people in their prime age
usually between 16 and 25. Schizophrenia is almost always treatable with medication. Contrary to
what most think schizophrenia is not a split personality , or caused by childhood trauma, bad
parenting, or poverty, and not the result of any action or personal failure by the individual.(3) Now
with a little knowledge about this disease I would like to tell you about how this illness can affect a
family that is exposed to it. Schizophrenia disturbs ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
When this happened to a love one it doesn t just happen to that person but it in way happens to the
whole family itself. Doctor appointments are not just meant for the one with schizophrenia, but for the
family has a whole. The entire family must intake in the appointment so that everyone is aware what is
happening and what to expect next. Family members must learn about the medications and how to
administrate them when the person is in the home. Knowing the dosage and times that the medication
is to be taken not only help administrate it better but also helps the person who is ill by helping them
keep it all organized.(2) Family routines are changed greatly do the fact that person that affect by
schizophrenia now need some type of structure now more than ever. Making a simple and stress less
routine allows the person time to relax and have time alone each day. Family might have to have more
low key regular daily activities and less big events routines, the less the person has to stress over the
better the person will be.(2) By keep a house that is quiet and calm also helps the person with
schizophrenia. Family members have to change talking habits and remember that chaos only make the
only makes the ill person more likely to see a relapse. It generally helps to keep voices a low level and
when specking with the ill person to remember to talk one person at a time and at a reasonable pace.
Family members also need to learn to be positive and

Strategic Geometry Essay
International Relations of Asia
STRATEGIC GEOMETRY
This is the only region in the world where so many combinations and permutations of two three and
four and even two plus four or three plus three power games can be played on the regional chessboard
with all their complexities and variations.
introduction
The concept of strategic geometry comprises the notion that that the interactions and interconnections
between a number of political actors within a particular system of international relations, either global
or regional can be seen in terms of geometric patterns of strategic configurations. It can be a case of
simple geometry, in which A interacts with B: but in a more complex system such as that of ... Show

Geopolitical and politico economic factors have in some cases changed the content, but not the form
of the particular strategic configurations and in some cases however, we find both form and content
are changed. In my essay I will focus on this dual analysis of the content and form of the major
patterns of strategic geometry and their change over time from Cold War to post Cold War.
In order to assess the usefulness of the concept of strategic geometry, we must first see how well the
concept is expressed in the international relations of
Asia. Firstly I will briefly outline the general strategic concerns or tenets of the Cold War era, the roles
and interactions of the actors involved, and the major strategic geometric patterns this produced. The
second part of my essay will comprise an analysis of the evolution of the system, and the tenets of the
new post cold war system, drawing attention at the same time to the usefulness of the concept of
strategic geometry to explain the transition. One may even conceptualize pre Cold War international
relations in strategic geometric terms: the past is replete with instances of three way interactions
between Japan, China and the Soviet Union. According to Mandlebaum, the fate of the region has for
the last two centuries depended on the fate of three major powers China, Japan and Russia, on the
stability and tranquillity of their mutual

When red meat is cooked on flames or at high temperatures, according to some studies they go
through some reactions which is capable of altering the eater s DNA. Some evidences has also shown
that the people who are eating red meat have a better chance and a higher risk of cancer. Studies by
IARC also found out that there are connections between unprocessed meat that is beef , pork and

Gas Station Research Paper
We ve all experienced this before, and for future drivers it is bound to happen. Before driving home
after a long day at work, you head to the nearest gas station to find the prices at a hefty $3.59 per
gallon. You shrug since the cost last week was a few cents higher, and proceed to fill up your car. With
your gasoline capacity at its limit, you drive around the corner only to have your jaw drop when you
realize that this gas station s price is thirty cents cheaper than what you just paid for. Then, talking to
the empty seat beside you, you ask, Why do gas stations in the same area charge different amounts per
gallon?
The first economic principle that gas companies have applied is the costs versus benefits principle.

Analysis Of Barbie Doll By Marge Piercy
Barbie Doll , is a poem written by Marge Piercy in 1936, that clearly delivers strong feminist views
about the pressures and standards that women are forced to live with. The poem is a depressing take,
describing a young girl s life beginning with her birth and ending with her ironic death. The poem
progresses and tells how the pressures of being a woman affect the girl s life and influence her actions.
The poem shows problem in society is inequality between sexes and the answer is feminism it is
equality for all.
This poem opens with a girl s uneventful and normal birth. As a young child, the girl was presented
dolls that did pee pee / and miniature GE stoves and irons / and wee lipsticks the color of cherry
candy. (Chesnutt, 349) this was societies standers encroaching on her life and molding her to be a
socially acceptable woman. The toys were meant to prepare her for the expectations she would have
later in life, expectations that a woman should raise children, take care of the babies, feed the family,
do the laundry, do household chores, and look beautiful while doing it. It is proven in a study that sex
trait stereotypes were found to develop in a linear fashion between the ages of 5 and 11, so when
young girls are given toys to stereotype their futures it really does affect them. (Best, et al.) The first
stanza ends with the girl s puberty years and the realization of society s standards of beauty as she is
told of her great big nose and fat legs . (Chesnutt, 349)

Metro Transit And The Better Bus Stop Engagement Essay
Berry Farrington of Metro Transit and the Better Bus Stop Engagement
Context
The bus stop is the front porch of the Metro Transit system, said Berry Farrington, senior planner at
Metro Transit and the Better Bus Stops (BBS) project manager. It is certainly where many
Minnesotans start their daily travels. Given the role of the bus stop, Metro Transit believes it is
necessary to make these places safe, secure, and comfortable for their riders. The BBS engagement
process began in March 2016 in an effort to not only add and improve bus shelters across Metro
Transit s service area but to engage with its riders in order to develop better parameters and guidelines
for future bus stop investments. The process will end in March 2017.
The funding for the BBS engagement comes from a $3.26 million dollar Ladders of Opportunity
Grant from the Federal Transit Administration for bus stop improvements that Metro Transit won in
late 2014. Besides improving bus shelters and stops, Metro Transit also saw this grant as an
opportunity to work towards the Metropolitan Council regional government s Thrive MSP 2040 plan
objective of raising awareness of the complex interdependencies of income, race, place and
opportunity and to challenge both itself and others to think regionally and act equitably for a better
region for all.
The BBS process is also aimed at addressing Metro Transit s negative press from failing to
appropriately balance its bus stop investments across its ridership. A

Alterations: Comparing the Changes Caused by Marriage of the two Bessie Head Short Stories, Life
and Snapshots of a Wedding
Marriage is the union of two people, traditionally husband and wife. Traditional also are the roles that
women play when confined in a marriage. When a woman has had the opportunity to educate herself
pass tradition and has been use to a fast paced modern lifestyle, this role of the wife might prove to be
quite onerous to mold to. Usually a time of joy, celebration, and adulation, marriage may also bring
along emotional and physical pain as well as awkward situations, as the woman must alter herself to
conform the traditional role of what a wife should be. Bessie Head depicts two modernized, educated

Being strong and independent women no longer matters as the men that they will call their husbands
enter their lives. Lesego and Kegoletile both represent the male figures and the change that Life and
Neo must endure as they conquer marriage. Lesego represents the authoritative male that is respected
by all the people of the rural village for his wealth and judgment. Life is attracted to
his power and control, but clearly underestimates them. It is with this man that Life decides to change
her ways. Life who represents all that is nontraditional clashes with the traditional Lesego.
His purpose is to marry Life and turn her into a proper village wife, one who does not throw loud
parties, and does not fornicate with other men (Kerschen 3).
Life, because of her nature is willing to try new things, welcomes the challenges that marriage bring.
The challenge of becoming a wife, which is a serious one, quickly alters Life s daily activities. All
parties cease and her mouth tell others that she has changed. All my old ways are over...I have now
become a woman (Head 353), is how Life exposes her transformation as a new wife. Kegoletile is not
nearly as overbearing and demanding as Lesego, but still provokes change in Neo. Perfectly fine with
her prissy ways manner she is forced to change when her aunt gives her a rude awakening concerning
a marriage with

The Southwest As A Bioregion
The Northeast as a Bioregion

SFS 5020 01 Bioregional Theory and the Foodshed
Lisa Trocchia Balkits
Due Date December, 2016
The Northeast as a Bioregion Currently residing in the state of Vermont the bioregion to which I ve
been informally assigned to is commonly known as the Laurentia bioregion. This assignment of
bioregion is widely accepted, but when looked at more deeply assigning Vermont to the Laurentia
bioregion becomes problematic. There are seemingly an endless number of variables that contribute to
the characteristics and attributes that one can choose from to define their bioregion, yet those
characteristics can widely vary even within a singular bioregion. Geologic makeup, weather patterns,
soil type, biologic diversity, political influence, human activity, and the natural processes that occur
within any given bioregion must be considered when analyzing and attempting to assign themselves to
a bioregion. Laurentia as a bioregion is one of the largest bioregions that exist and has a very large
degree of characteristics and variance within its biologic, geologic, and cultural attributes (Figure 1.
Bioregions and Biotones). Laurentia is a bioregion sits atop the Laurentian craton in the northeastern
United States and eastern Canada, and centering on the Great Lakes. The bioregion spans the Eastern
Woodlands of North America from the easternmost part of the Great Plains to the Atlantic Coast of the

  • 2. The Right to Die Analysis The right to die has been brought to the media and public spotlight through the cases of Karen Ann Quinlan, Cruzan v. Missouri, and Vacco v. Quill. This issue has been the topic of heated debate for years in the religious, scientific, and political community. This is because this topic ties into many communities and effects a large amount of people. These cases brought the right to die debate to the religious community. The reason for this is from the use of life support which many believe should not be used at all because people should die naturally as they believe god intended. This belief also ties into the matter of physician assisted suicide brought up in the Vacco v. Quill case, one should not be given a lethal dose of drugs and should die naturally. The publics opinion on the right to die has a drastic range, due to the fact this matter spans all groups of people. A popular opinion from the public is that the government has no right to decide whether someone can or cannot end their lives, pertaining to the case of Vacco v. Quill and euthanasia. This statement is a very true one, why should the government be involved in the death of a free person? This may be the case for euthanasia, but there is another factor in the right to die debate. That other factor is removing one from life support. This issue is brought up in both the case of Karen Ann Quinlan and in the case of Cruzan v. Missouri. It is illegal to remove a patient from life support without ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. The Importance Of War In All Quiet On The Western Front Erich Maria Remarque s novel, All Quiet on the Western Front, depicts the true horror and brutality of war, and has shown people all over the world what it can actually means to fight for one s country. Although it may seem as though going to war is brave and honorable, that is not always the case. Through descriptive and graphic scenes, Remarque depicts the futility of war and unveils the terrors experienced by soldiers fighting on the Western Front during World War I. The theme of the meaninglessness of war is found throughout Remarque s novel, accompanied by the feelings of hopelessness of the soldiers when they realize it. The novel conveys that after fighting for so long, a soldier begins to realize that the killing is futile and results only in unnecessary deaths. The deaths on the Western Front were often in vain, because no territory was every really gained or lost during the front s battles. The doubt of the soldiers and their purpose can be seen in Kropp s words, when he ponders the morality of war: We are here to protect our fatherland. And the French are over there to protect their fatherland. Now who s in the right? (page 203). ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Paul, the main character, often reflects on how war can damage a person both mentally and physically. He understands that even if the soldiers were to return to their former lives, they would not know what to do with themselves, because they have changed and no longer identify with civilians. This can be seen as Paul reflects on his life while he is in the hospital: I am young. I am twenty years old; yet I know nothing of life but despair, deaths, fear [...] I see how peoples are set against one another, and in silence, unknowingly, foolishly, obediently, innocently slay one another (page 263). This quote also expands on the theme mentioned above Paul sees how people are purposely set against one another and told to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Two Approaches Of Pragmatics According to Schmitt (2010), there are two approaches of pragmatics, a cognitive or psychological approach which is exploring the relation between linguistic meaning of utterances, the decontextualized, what speakers mean by their utterances on a particular situation and how hearer interpret those utterances on those particular situations. Cognitive approach was developed by philosophers Austin, Searle, and Grice. On the other hand, social pragmatics approach which focuses on the communicative exchanges between individuals in social, cultural and other contextual factors. Brown and Levinson (1978 1987) introduced face model of politeness to this approach. The main objective of pragmatics is to study on how non native speakers comprehend and produce speech acts in a target language. Speech act is not the whole of pragmatics, but is perhaps currently the most important part of the subject. Many of the topics addressed in both narrow and broad views derive from three major pragmatic theories: Speech Acts, Conversational Implicatures, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... To be more specific, to explain the indirect speech acts can be say it is a theory of speech acts certain general principles of cooperative conversation (Searle, 1979, p. 31 32). Throughout Japan s 2600 years of history, there have been many wars and conflicts fought across Japan and the Pacific region. Through the ages, Japan has always had an Emperor at the head of its government, although this role has changed through time. Japan saw many economic changes, the biggest of which occurred after World War II (WWII). With Japan s history, woven in war throughout the Pacific has become a model of strong political standing and near immeasurable economic growth. Japanese chronicles record Jimmu s expedition heading eastward from Hyuga in 607 BCE, continuing along Japan s inland sea, subduing tribes as he went, and ending in Yamato, where he centered his power (Jimmu Legendary Emperor of Japan, 2016.) • 8. Blood On The Forge Analysis Exploitation of African Americans Seen in Southern and Northern Environments as Accurately Depicted in Attaway s Blood on the Forge William Attaway s novel, Blood on the Forge, displays a family torn apart as a product of systematic exploitation. In the compelling narrative, the Moss brothers, Big Mat, Chinatown, and Melody, migrate to the north in motivation of Big Mat committing the murder of his riding boss. As they begin to adjust, their perception of the north s assumed and rumored opportunities quickly conforms to the reality of what is actually offered. Through plot lines of the very act of migrating, acclimating to regenerated labor and norms, and, finally, the dissolution of the brothers identities and close family connection, it is observed that their exodus to the north is just as empty of benefits as the south. Attaway accomplishes depicting an accurate account of the contrasting exploitation that occurred in both the north and the south by portraying the Moss brothers demise as a result of their migration from a systematic, rural setting to an industrial, diminishing, and, ultimately, unfamiliar environment along with how the two regions parallel in similarities concerning economical and social consequences, permanently affecting the brothers altogether mentally and physically. Where there was great potential for a rebirth of opportunity and success, the result was a contrasting reality of misery and permanent damage. Attaway subtlety foreshadows the mandatory reformation, hard labor, and levels of exploitation that were to come in the depiction of how the Moss brothers were transported to the north. They were bunched up like hogs headed for market, heading into the unknown (Attaway 38). Attaway ties a few key moments of historical allusion in the description of this particular mode of transportation. To put in context, when Africans were relocated over to America for the purpose of serving as slaves, the transportation was quite similar. It was dark and crowded, just as Attaway describes this scene. Warm urine began to flow as they had no choice but to relieve themselves just as the Africans had no other option but to alleviate their bladders (Attaway 38). The stark imagery of the ... Societal Views of Women in the Victorian Era in Henrik Ibsen s A Doll s House A Doll s House, by Henrik Ibsen, creates a peephole into the lives of a family in the Victorian Era. The play portrays a female viewpoint in a male dominated society. The values of the society are described using the actions of a woman, Nora, who rebels against the injustices inflicted upon her gender. Women s equality with men was not recognized by society in the late 1800 s. Rather, a woman was considered a doll, a child, and a servant. Nora s alienation reveals society s assumptions and values about gender. A woman was considered by society to be a doll because she was expected to be subordinate to her husband s whims. Torvald replies with a condescending statement: Does my little Nora acknowledge that at last? (26). Torvald expects only childish talk from her. He even tells her she is little, like a child, and although he expects nothing more than child s talk from her, he does expect to be obeyed. Nora plays the part of a slave in her subservience to her husband, for she is supposed to abide by his rules and be dependent on him. She is not supposed to think for herself and repeatedly told so by those around her. When speaking about Nora in her presence, Torvald says, She is so terribly self willed (55). Nora has a conversation with Mrs. Linde, who also tells her, Don t be self willed (57). Torvald tells her, I will advise you and direct you (64). Nora is expected to be a dependent slave who follows her husband s advice and directions. Women were also legally dependent upon men. The society s laws of that time even required the male to cosign everything that a woman had to sign. The novella follows a well respected doctor Henry Jekyll and his struggle between good and evil when he takes a potion and becomes Mr Hyde. Robert Louis Stevenson the author of the novella The Strange Case of Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde was born in Edinburgh in 1850 and died at the young age of forty four. He wrote the book in 1886. When describing the door, Stevenson includes detail about the surrounding and the atmosphere as being dark weather, foggy and mysterious: a black winter morning . The door also represents mystery, as we do not know the contents of the building: showed no window, nothing but a door . The building is described as being a certain sinister block which suggests it looks evil. The atmosphere is unwelcoming around the door as it has neither bell nor knocker which shows that Mr Hyde did not want any visitors. Most of the changes from Dr Jekyll into Mr Hyde take place in the laboratory. This is an odd setting to use, as it is a symbol of what could be the origin of evil. Stevenson insinuates this by the way he uses the butler (Poole) to say that it used to be a dissecting room this is where many dead bodies will have been experimented on. Since the symbols of evil in this novella are Mr Hyde and his use of medicine this could also be the case as the potion that went wrong, and created and evil individual, was made here. When we later learn the door leads to a courtyard, which allows Mr Hyde into the laboratory this begins to feel strange, as we do not understand why Mr Hyde is going into Dr Jekyll s grounds. The small Christ figure is carrying a cross, a possible reference to the knowledge of what he is being sent to do for the people. The way Mary is seated shows her acquiescence towards Gods resolve; she is so devoted that she would do anything God requested or required of her. On the right flank of the triptych sits Joseph in his workshop working on a carpentry project. The hues in this scene are more neutral throughout with some darker accents in Josephs robes and headpiece. Behind Joseph a Flemish city scene is visible through the open window, baring semblance to the fact that the people are going about their normal daily activities, unaware of the miraculous event taking place just yards away. Inside the shop, Joseph is drilling holes in a piece of wood that will be used in the wine making process; this subtle reference to wine refers to the blood of Christ. There are several traps set in various areas of the shop, these traps reference God s plan to trap Satan by sending Jesus to live among the people. On the left flank of the triptych the donors, a husband and wife, kneel in the garden outside the door of Mary and Josephs house. Choosing the runway is an analytical decision, as information needs to be analyzed correctly. An airport s ATIS will list the active runways in use for departures. If multiple runways are being used for departure, pilots will need to anticipate the runway they will use. Pilot will use their location relative to the runways, direction of departure, and previous experience to decide on a runway. Pilot s previous experience can be heuristic as certain airport conditions lead to specific runway operations. It is sometimes referred to as tribal knowledge when anticipating the correct runway. Time is the biggest stressor in this decision. A pilot always wants to anticipate the correct runway so that it will reduce their workload during taxing. If they picked the wrong runway they then have a lot of work starting the request task over in a short period of time. The second decision looked at will be deciding if the received data is correct and valid to accept and use. This decision can be either intuitive analytical. Analytical is the correct way to make the decision however. The decision is analytical because pilots are supposed to verify all the information that was used to compute the takeoff data such as wind, altimeter, flap setting, and runway. That takes additional time but is the correct method. Most pilots make the decision using intuitive decisions making. Pilots receive preliminary takeoff data during their preflight. If the v speeds on the final takeoff data received is within a knot or two of the preliminary takeoff data v speeds pilots will use that as their check. They can accomplish that much quicker and use it as a shortcut. If any of the information isn t correct for the situation it is important pilots catch it or it can lead to invalid data being used. • 22. Objectives Of A Balanced Scorecard Introduction The balanced scorecard consists of four critical performance measures that managers can use to align their company s initiatives with organizational strategy. It is one of the most important developments in management accounting, particularly in strategic planning and control because it offers a balanced view of how non financial and financial measures can be casually linked together (Shutibhinyo, 2014). The purpose of this research paper is to provide a brief history of the balanced scorecard, the components of a balanced scorecard, and finally an in depth comparative analysis of how two companies use the balanced scorecard to meet its strategic objectives. Origins of the Balanced Scorecard Robert S. Kaplan and David P. Norton developed the first balanced scorecard in the early 1990s. Kaplan and Norton identify the balanced scorecard as translating an organization s mission and strategy into a comprehensive set of performance measures that provides the framework for a strategic measurement and management system (Kaplan and Norton, 1996). The balanced scorecard is a tool in which managers can focus attention on four critical performance measures: financial perspective, customer perspective, process perspective, and learning and growth perspective (Kaplan and Norton, 1996). However, the first balanced scorecard that was published did not demonstrate to managers how the four strategic objectives fit to form the company s overall strategy. In other ... Sexual Fantasy Within The Odyssey Cassidy Bulger Professor Isser Montserrat September 22, 2015 Sexual Fantasy Within The Odyssey In the Odyssey, by Homer, Homer suggests that women can be seductive traps that prevent or delay men from reaching their goals. The women that Odysseus encounters on his journey home in The Odyssey all represent a different sexual fantasy figure in the eyes of a male, and serve as a distraction that he must work around. Although the three women that Odysseus encounters on his travels are desirable to him, the only thing that he wants is to get home to his devoted wife. The soft, alluring, pastoral sensuality of Calypso, the purity, youth and innocence of the young Nausicaa, and the adventurously sexy Circe are no contest to the loyal and faithful Penelope. Penelope holds aspects of each of these three women, making her the most sought after by Odysseus. The goddess Calypso resides in a cave on an island. The lush and blossomed forest that surrounds her cave symbolizes the idea of and new life, whereas the cave itself represents a womb. Around her cave the woodland was in bloom,...Four separate springs flowed with clear water, crisscrossing channels as they meandered through meadows lush with parsley and blossoming violets (Odyssey, 5. 67 76). If whaling continues in the SOWS, it may lead to irreversible effects to the ecosystem of the Southern Ocean. Eugenics can be popularly defined as the science of improving and enhancing a human population or person through manipulating the human genes, selective breeding, and sterilization. The end goal and desired result of eugenics is to basically create a human race or people with more desirable biological, physical, or psychological traits. Eugenics and genetic modification is a current, pressing subject; in April 2015, a group of Chinese researchers, used a new gene editing technology, called CRISPR to [tinker] with the genomes of human embryos (Adams). Presently, according to CQ Researcher, New genetic technologies allow scientists to delete a mutant gene and insert a healthy one, which...has the potential to eliminate inherited diseases, such as cystic fibrosis. However, these techniques have only been used on embryos belonging to laboratory animals. The big question here is whether or not science and technology are crossing an ethical boundary by using these techniques and performing genetic modification on human embryos. Do humans have the right to play God and alter nature? Following the background and history of genetic engineering and eugenics, it can definitely be seen why ethicists and scientists are concerned. Europeans made Africa worse than what it was, they treated Africa as a money making place and didn t care if they had to kill people in order to do so.For example, Pheko states Africa has suffered the worst genocide and holocaust at the hands of the architects of slavery and colonialism (Pheko). This example of pathos demonstrates that Africans have been treated unfairly throughout the years. Europeans have tried to demolish Africa and tear into it as a toy, Africa s colonization turned Africa into a subhuman country. He was first an apprentice to a clockmaker and had little to no education as a young adult. There are, however, several parts of his life that influenced his ideas of mental healing. The first being that Quimby had developed tuberculosis, but gave up hope of recovery even after a prescribed treatment or calomel, also known as mercury. The very treatment he believed to be curing him, was actually killing him. After he had become so sick, he abandoned his business of being a clockmaker, and gave up all hope of recovery. According to some one Quimby s manuscripts, he was the first to use Christian healing as a term of therapy. He truly had thought that he had discovered the technique that Jesus had used on people in the Bible, which is why he never took credit for this therapeutic technique. He just practiced in the image of Jesus to help those around him who were suffering. He called his method Science of Christ or Christ Science . It was through divine wisdom that healing was achieved, and evidence could be found in the New Testament, since his treatment was similar to Jesus . Once this theory was developed, he abandoned the mental healing theory. His legacy left for the world is his mind/spiritual healing. He did also believe that in order for this treatment to be effective, the patient had to participate during this process. The patient had to believe in the process and that it would work in order for it to be effective. Beliefs were very important, and that God is wisdom is what can heal a ... People believe that sports have been taken over by criminals, as though college and professional teams recruit out of the prison yards instead of the schoolyards. And the NFL, or as the clever among us would say ? the National Felons League (how witty!), has taken the brunt of public criticism. But there is no truth in the widely held belief that sport and crime go hand in hand. Little research and few studies have actually been done on the prevalence of crime among athletes or the levels of crime in sport compared to the rest of society, but the public obviously doesn t need studies to form an opinion (Coakley, 157). When you open a daily newspaper and have to wade threw the mucky headlines of rape and battery just to get to a box score, it s no wonder people think that all athletes are criminals. Simply put, athletes live by different standards then everyone else. And it s unfair. They re in the spotlight and for some reason this means they should do no wrong even though they re far from perfect just like everyone else. But being imperfect seems to be unacceptable for an athlete. This idea is partly the media s fault because they shine the lights on the athletes and in turn blind the public from the truth. Do you take their Credit Card to the back office and create a cash receipt in HMIS and swipe the Credit Card on an EPD (toaster)? Our policy at this location is to require some form of payment with completion of amount owed prior to rendering of services. It is our typical stance that we swipe the card immediately creating a cash receipt even if this involves multiple credit cards. Our machine is located in the back, through a door and in the corner. That s quite a distance from the family and some time for the OM to stop what they re doing and get into HMIS to process the payment. Do you take the Credit Card information and process the receipt as a manual key credit card at a later time? We rarely if ever do a manual key as the swipe method works very well. If neither of the above two are done, what is your process for charging a customer s credit card? 2. In the future, if there was a credit card device located inside the arrangement room that would allow you to enter the HMIS contract number and total amount to charge on the credit card, and then swipe the credit card to charge the customer and during this process, the cash receipt was automatically created in HMIS and posted, would you utilize this device/process? In my essay I will focus on this dual analysis of the content and form of the major patterns of strategic geometry and their change over time from Cold War to post Cold War. In order to assess the usefulness of the concept of strategic geometry, we must first see how well the concept is expressed in the international relations of Asia. Firstly I will briefly outline the general strategic concerns or tenets of the Cold War era, the roles and interactions of the actors involved, and the major strategic geometric patterns this produced. The second part of my essay will comprise an analysis of the evolution of the system, and the tenets of the new post cold war system, drawing attention at the same time to the usefulness of the concept of strategic geometry to explain the transition. One may even conceptualize pre Cold War international relations in strategic geometric terms: the past is replete with instances of three way interactions between Japan, China and the Soviet Union. • 47. Analysis Of Barbie Doll By Marge Piercy Barbie Doll , is a poem written by Marge Piercy in 1936, that clearly delivers strong feminist views about the pressures and standards that women are forced to live with. The poem is a depressing take, describing a young girl s life beginning with her birth and ending with her ironic death. The poem progresses and tells how the pressures of being a woman affect the girl s life and influence her actions. The poem shows problem in society is inequality between sexes and the answer is feminism it is equality for all. This poem opens with a girl s uneventful and normal birth. As a young child, the girl was presented dolls that did pee pee / and miniature GE stoves and irons / and wee lipsticks the color of cherry candy. (Chesnutt, 349) this was societies standers encroaching on her life and molding her to be a socially acceptable woman. The toys were meant to prepare her for the expectations she would have later in life, expectations that a woman should raise children, take care of the babies, feed the family, do the laundry, do household chores, and look beautiful while doing it. It is proven in a study that sex trait stereotypes were found to develop in a linear fashion between the ages of 5 and 11, so when young girls are given toys to stereotype their futures it really does affect them. Metro Transit And The Better Bus Stop Engagement Essay Berry Farrington of Metro Transit and the Better Bus Stop Engagement Context The bus stop is the front porch of the Metro Transit system, said Berry Farrington, senior planner at Metro Transit and the Better Bus Stops (BBS) project manager. It is certainly where many Minnesotans start their daily travels. Given the role of the bus stop, Metro Transit believes it is necessary to make these places safe, secure, and comfortable for their riders. The BBS engagement process began in March 2016 in an effort to not only add and improve bus shelters across Metro Transit s service area but to engage with its riders in order to develop better parameters and guidelines for future bus stop investments. The process will end in March 2017. The funding for the BBS engagement comes from a $3.26 million dollar Ladders of Opportunity Grant from the Federal Transit Administration for bus stop improvements that Metro Transit won in late 2014. Besides improving bus shelters and stops, Metro Transit also saw this grant as an opportunity to work towards the Metropolitan Council regional government s Thrive MSP 2040 plan objective of raising awareness of the complex interdependencies of income, race, place and opportunity and to challenge both itself and others to think regionally and act equitably for a better region for all. The BBS process is also aimed at addressing Metro Transit s negative press from failing to appropriately balance its bus stop investments across its ridership. A ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

This assignment of bioregion is widely accepted, but when looked at more deeply assigning Vermont to the Laurentia bioregion becomes problematic. There are seemingly an endless number of variables that contribute to the characteristics and attributes that one can choose from to define their bioregion, yet those characteristics can widely vary even within a singular bioregion. Geologic makeup, weather patterns, soil type, biologic diversity, political influence, human activity, and the natural processes that occur within any given bioregion must be considered when analyzing and attempting to assign themselves to a bioregion.
