Similarities And Differences Between South Africa And Haiti
In South Africa the first period up to 1910 indicated the establishment of schools, which were mainly
church schools, and the centre of a State system. According to Malherbe (1925:24), education in the
early days was haphazard and the nomadic people prevented the establishment of permanent schools.
Parents were responsible for hiring a schoolmaster who moved around with the community providing
tuition. Home instruction was therefore normal. Education was therefore a private and local affair
(Squelch, Private Education in South africa, 1997)

the growing rift between the private school sector and the State, but since 2009, all schools teach

americanisation of australian television Essay
The Americanization of Australian Television is a sad and terrible thing. It is a process whereby
ordinary Australians are bombarded every day with images of American lifestyle, so much that it
merges almost unnoticed into their own lifestyle. It is a process whereby our home grown
entertainment industry is overwhelmed by the enormous powerhouse of the American economy, with
drastic effects upon the modern Australian nation. Not only is Australian free to air TV being
dominated by American produced shows, but a lot of the content on the Australian TV shows is
sourced from America. American culture is part of Australian mass consumer culture, It dominates our
television.

I have tried. The only local program I could praise is Wildside ( Cited in the Sydney Morning Herald,
David Dale). So whilst there are many Australians concerned over this issue there are so many more
that do not see the affect the American TV culture is having on Australian television and its identity,
the distinction between what is inside and outside Australian culture is slipping away.
The influence of Americanisation upon Australian Free to air TV is clearly evident, If we look at the
top 10 shows that are viewed by the Australian public today it would be obvious that the top two
shows are both American produced, Lost and Desperate Housewives (Top 10 shows, Who Magazine.).
Lost and Desperate Housewives are doing very well, loading up the viewing figures in the US favour.
But go back six months and the picture would be far more balanced. Jump eight years back, and Blue
Heelers was holding its own against Friends (Bell Phillip, Television 1997 Twenty Most popular
programs). The Australian audience is becoming more Americanised, as more and more prefer
watching American TV shows opposed to the ones made in Australia. Shows like SVU, Law and
Order, CSI (and its derivatives), NCIS, and the OC, dominate the TV screens of many Australian
households today. Ordinary Australians spend many hours watching TV (especially Australian youth),

John Malcolm Fraser Research Paper
John Malcolm Fraser was an Australian politician who was the 22nd Prime Minister of Australia and
the Leader of the Liberal Party from 1975 to 1983. On the 16th of december, 1976, was the enactment
of Aboriginal Land rights (Northern Territory) Act. This act secured the Aboriginal right to their
ancestors land. This act is significant in that it was the first of the Aboriginal land rights acts, allowing
for a claim of title if claimants can provide evidence of their traditional association with land. His
motivation, contribution and involvement has still not to this day been forgotten by the Aboriginal
people.
Malcolm Fraser did not believe that Aboriginals were being treated fairly and this showed in his
contribution to the Aboriginal Land rights act. The Northern Land Council s chairman, Mr Samuel
Bush Blanasi, said Mr Fraser was a great friend of Aboriginal people in the Northern Territory. Mr

This was watered down from the Whitlam proposals but remains a significant milestone in both the
recognition of Aboriginal rights and their practical fulfilment. His government also established the
Human Rights Commission whose work has continued to monitor and advocate for the human rights
protections of all Australians, with a special role in relation to Indigenous people. His government also
took some important measures in terms of the protection of the Australian environment. It was the
Fraser government that prohibited exploration and drilling on the Great Barrier Reef. The Aboriginals
would have looked very highly on him for this, as he is involved in saving their land. By providing
legal title and a measure of control over some of our traditional lands, the Act has allowed us to
determine the pace and extent of our involvement in the broader Australian society and

Pandemic Death Monologue
Pandemic Death So It started when I was young about nine years of age and it was early in the year
1350. It started a little like this, there was a knock on the door and I got up to go see who it was. When
I opened the door there was a man on his horse. The man asked my parents were home, they were, so I
said I could go and get them. Once I had gotten my parents the man asked if they are willing to go on
a trip through the sea to Kwillining, London. They said they would, so they put in there few overalls
and dirty old jeans into a small waggon that are going to have to hall 46 miles to get to the ship. I have

We all went inside and ate some soup. Once we were done we told each other a little about what we

there was a deep voice outside our door.
The voice was booming, dark, and scary. They then suddenly I saw the door split in two. A man about
twice the height as me then thundered in. The man started rambling on about how everyone is dieing
and that the world was going to end. I noticed there were swollen oval shaped things the size of an
apple.
The man then asked, I ve traveled a long way and i m so tired of seeing dead bodies everywhere I go I
was also wondering if I could sit a while here. Just about everyone is dead around here.
I told him he could stay a while and I got him some fresh water. The man said he would replace our

blood. We knew exactly what this meant. He had the

What Makes An Effective Leader
Leadership A leader is somebody who stands for his cause as well as assumes liability and propels
different people moreover. There is an unmistakable contrast between being a supervisor and a leader.
A leader is an inspiration for others and rouses people to point high and accomplish that point.
However a manager just regulates over his subordinates. Control actually goes to a pioneer, yet that
power is not a device of leader. Or maybe on the off chance that one tries to control the conditions
with power it ends up being dictator. Authority is not a quality but rather it is an individual s conduct.

A pioneer is somebody that many individuals look to for bearing, direction, and motivation, so it is
critical for our pioneers to have the bent to settle on troublesome choices and to know and make the
wisest decision for the general population. A higher power is pivotal for overseeing and controlling
others and also being a case of a hard and devoted specialist. A viable pioneer has character,
capability, sympathy, and valor. Character is, as talked about in class, conceivably the most critical
normal for a pioneer. A man s actual character is the kind of people they are the point at which they
are placed in a troublesome circumstance. It is the choices and the ethical quality of a pioneer that
gives them the respectable character that others hope to take after. It is fundamental for a pioneer to

Competition And Predation Play An Important Role
Coexistence has been happening among many species since the beginning of time throughout nature.
The way species exist is of great complexity as many factors such as: competition and predation play
an important role (Chase et al. 2002; Holt 1984; Paine 1966). Ecosystems, communities and
populations all face competition between their species. Studies are constantly being done to show how
different species survive together or die trying and what is it that they are fighting to survive over.
Different habitats, predator, prey, and so many other factors play a role in the survival of species like
protists. Many laboratory studies have been done on two protists, Paramecium aurelia and
Paramecium caudatum, to see different aspects of their ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The prey will go slam down on the ground in seconds and be devoured in minutes by the lion. The
lion is allelopathy at its best because there is competition over survival and territory with animals of
this nature. Territory can be a limited resource depending on the time of year and the environment as a
whole, trees and brush being chopped down pose a problem when it comes to sneaking up on prey.
Gause started experimenting on protists to observe their development and observe their survival
ability together (Gause). Paramecium can be found in many places: wet areas like lakes and rivers or
dry areas such as those of trees and soil. Gause set out to experiment with Paramecium aurelia and
Paramecium caudatum to determine if they fit the competitive exclusion theory that he came up with
(Gause 1935). The class was given both parameciums to experiment with for the validity of
coexistence. The competitive exclusion theory begs the question, can two species coexist together
over a resource or will one of them be driven to extinction? Gause may have been the leader to start
the protists experiment but he wasn t the only one to question competition. Gill had questioned Gause
s theory and decided to do his own research. Gill experimented on two species pure and mixed
cultures of Paramecium aurelia. After experimenting Gill discovered that Paramecium aurelia did not
match up to Gause s theory and did not compete over a limited resource instead

The Future of the Arctic Is in Our Hands
Preface
The arctic is facing today drastic climate changes that, together with technological development will
in the near future disclose the Arctic s economic potential.
We, the people of Greenland, believe that the inhabitants of the Arctic should be the first to benefit
from the economic opportunities the Arctic will bring.
As historical inhabitants of the Arctic it is our responsibility to make it a peaceful and rich region
ensuring at the same time the safeguard of its environment. The future of the Arctic is in our hands.
Kridneh Gnireeh, prime minister of Greenland.
Introduction
The Arctic has been warming faster than any other region on the planet: Greenland s ice sheet has
experienced a steady melting and will along with the Arctic s ice caps contribute to the rise of the
global sea levels.
Climate change will affect the natural environment enabling the exploitation of oil, gas and minerals,
the melting of the Arctic ice caps will open new and more cost efficient trading routes namely the
Northern Sea route and the Northwest Passage, in which Greenland will play a strategic role due to its
geographical location. The warming of the seas will permit Greenlandic fisheries to expand their
activities by locating new fishing grounds further north.
In 2009 Greenlanders voted in favor of the Self Goverment Act which transferred more powers from
the Government of Denmark to the local Greenlandic government, among these the right to
administrate mineral resource

Finally, the company can make a profit (Zeithaml et al., 2009). Therefore, satisfied employees make
satisfied customers. Service personnel satisfaction significantly influences organizational commitment
and job performance on customer satisfaction and corporate operational performance (Ladkin, 2002;
Dunlap et al., 1988; Tansuhaj et al., 1988; Chowdhary, 2003; Yang and Chen, 2010). How to enhance
service personnel satisfaction, organizational commitment and job performance is a critical issue in
service industry management. In past research on employee satisfaction, organizational commitment
and job performance, many scholars (Babin and Boles, 1998; Bernhardt et al., 2000; Van Scotter,
2000; Koys, 2003; Testa, 2001) have validated that employees job satisfaction positively influences
job performance and organizational commitment. In studies on factors of employees job satisfaction,
job performance and organizational commitment, the service profit chain proposed by Heskett et al.
(1994) and service marketing management model indicated by Tansuhaj et al.(1988) on overall service
industry both demonstrated that management s internal marketing activities produce job satisfaction
and commitment to the organization. In addition, many studies have found close relationships between
leadership, employee satisfaction, organizational commitment and job performance (Billingsley and

As profits soared so did the sophistication of the market as well. It no longer is dependent on solely
making sales off the streets and in underground locations. Thanks to the development of technology
this market expanded vastly as its availability became easy to access to most and communications
between sellers and buyers become safer and faster. This is thanks to the internet and great advances in
computers. The buying and selling of illegal black market in drugs and pharmaceuticals now heavy
depends on the internet. Most transactions and sellers are on the deep web, part of the internet a level
beyond our regular use of google and such. This provides secure and confidential communication lines
by encryption of computer IP addresses using Tor anonymizing software or web proxy to the Tor
network (Van Hout, par 3). Another benefit of it is the Bitcoin digital currency which also helps ensure
that financial transactions can not be traced. Through this process seller and buyers found an easier
and safer way to do their business. It is because of the anonymity and safer way to buy that many
Americans do turn to this site and others like it on the deep web. This can be seen through
comprehensive measurement analysis and site monitoring for a period of eight months during late
2011 and 2012 estimated total vendor revenue from public listings, as slightly over USD1.2 million

conclusion was met erroneously as it is based on generalized statistics which are then calculated to fit

Perk Of Being A Wallflower, And The Perks Of Being A...
To the average American teenager, high school may have seemed like a real life nightmare. So why is
it that so many movies today revolve around this hellish concept? According to David Denby, the
author of High School Confidential: Notes on Teen Movies , there is a whole genre of these teen films.
As explained by Denby, such genre films include stereotypical male and female villains of the social
queen or jock type, mixed up emotions and teens rising above the poisonous system of status,
snobbery and exclusion that is commonly known as high school (Denby 367). By this definition, the
film The Perks of Being a Wallflower can be categorized as a teen film. Based on the book published
in 1999, The Perks of Being a Wallflower follows Charlie ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
However, for the majority or teens, there is a considerable amount of teen angst that comes from this
emotional growth. When depicted in movies, Denby explains that these films arise from remembered
hurts which then get recast in symbolic form. (Denby 369). In Denby s example, the main character
may have suffered from the death of a parent and thus is ill equipped for the emotional pressures of
school. (Denby 369). This can be seen to be incredibly true for the main character of The Perks of
Being a Wallflower. Through out the film, there are memories brought up from Charlie s past about his
best friend s suicide, his Aunt s Death, and his past sexual abuse. For example, when Sam kisses
Charlie and rubs his leg, Charlie gets flashbacks of a similar situation in which his adult Aunt sexually
abuses him. Due to his past, Charlie is depicted as unable to cope with the problems he faces, through
his actions over the course of the film. Charlie takes a passive role in his life. For example, when his
sister is abused by her boyfriend, Charlie does not step in. He also doesn t speak up when Mary
Elizabeth declares that she and Charlie are dating, though he clearly doesn t have any interest in her.
From the audience s point of view, it is known that his passive actions are a result of his emotional
problems. However, as explained by Denby, the motherless child also has powers and will someday be

Maslow s Hierarchy Of Needs Theory
Maslow s Hierarchy of Needs Theory in Organizational Diversity
Psychologist Abraham Maslow established a theory of motivation to justify how people in diverse
organizations behave. His human requirements theory states that humans are never completely
satisfied; that they crave satisfaction and those requirements can be classified into a hierarchy based
upon importance. The lowest level of importance includes peoples desire to satisfy their physical
needs, such as hunger and thirst. Following the lowest level, individuals need basic security and
stability. After physical and safety needs are satisfied, individuals have the desire to gain acceptance
into a group and to establish meaningful relationships. Once this need is somewhat fulfilled, one will
strive for self confidence and personal achievement. Lastly, an individual must realize their potential
or they will become dissatisfied and discontent. This theory assists managers to motivate subordinates
in a diverse workplace by ensuring low level needs are met first. Then, management will be able to
pursue supervising employees as they complete more multifaceted tasks. An effective manager
influences employees positively by creating a safe work environment, providing the necessary tools
and resources and involving employees in decision making processes (Maslow, 1943, 1954).
Maslow s hierarchy of needs theory has particularly created a glass ceiling in art museum curating by
hindering individuals personal achievements,

Measuring The Load Pattern Of Measuring A Minimum Of Two...
In some cases, lateral force shapes result to good approximation of demand displacements.
Nevertheless, there has not been found any constant loading for exact approximation of local
mechanisms and plastic hinges. Earthquake codes have made it mandatory to use a minimum of two
lateral load patterns in nonlinear static procedure. These two load patterns are chosen to cover
resulting forces in actual dynamic response of the structure. There are two load patterns which are
used mostly in usual studies: uniform and modal load pattern. When using uniform load pattern, called
also constant acceleration pattern, lateral forces applied to the structure are proportional to the mass of
the building stories. This load pattern emphasizes on bottom floors demands more than top floor
demands. It also increases the importance of shear in stories against overturning moment while modal
load pattern emphasizes overturning moment and story demands. The FEMA356 code allows using
comparative load pattern instead of constant load pattern. In this method the load pattern varies by
plastic hinges as the displacements in the structure increase. Obviously, none of these shapes of
constant loading can perform redistribution of inertia forces which occur with the first local
mechanism and change of dynamic properties of the structure. Therefore, it is interesting to find a load
shape which is closer to the variation of inertia forces distribution and gives a better approximation of
the behavior of

A Brief Note On An Accidental Racial War
An Accidental Racial War.
An accidental fight started at school to where no parties were at fault until a circle was formed around
us showing all the students that I am white and she is black. The school was enjoying a festival
watching a talent show when a girl behind me accidently spilled her nachos on to my head, this may
have started a fight against many students primarily of opposite races and I was to blame.
I went to a public Junior High School in Long beach, CA. This was a very culturally diversified
school; the students had their clicks, as most students would call them. This is typically groups of
people of the same interests: jocks, nerds, rebels, hippies and groups of the same racial background:
African American, Caucasian, Filipino, Korean, Hispanic, or Samoan. The whole school was treated
to a festival with good food, music, games and a talent show showcasing student performers. Some of
the performers played instruments, acted out dramas, or danced. The festival was outside in the food
court area, where we typically have lunch. It was a warm day and I was sitting by myself in a crowd of
students watching the talent show. My legs were crossed on the floor, however, feeling a bit bored I
decided to wrap the straps of my backpack around my legs tangling them. The talent show was
coming to an end and the DJ started to play some music.

carbonated water, high fructose corn syrup, caramel color, sugar, phosphoric acid, caffeine, citric acid
and natural flavors (Pendergrast, 2000, p.6). The natural flavors are where they differ. Coke includes a
secret ingredient known as Merchandise 7X, which sounds all mysterious and daring (Pendergrast,

However, a consumer backlash led to Coca Cola quickly introducing a modified version of the
original formula (removing the expensive Haitian lime oil and changing the sweetener to corn syrup)
as Coke Classic (Blakesleen, p.3). Overall, Coca Cola continues to outsell Pepsi in almost all areas of
the world.
HYPOTHESIS When it comes to the Coke vs. Pepsi challenge, I always prefer Coke. I think it has
less of a sugary aftertaste. People say they can tell the difference between Pepsi and Coke, in my
opinion they both taste the same! I believe that based on 30 people (half male/half female), women
will be the ones who will be able to differentiate between Coke and Pepsi. The subjects for the
challenge differed on their choices but all figured they could identify their favorite cola in a blind test.

The Ancient Civilization
The ancient Maya civilisation has generated great interest in many academic scholars and scientists,
due to the phenomenon which saw one of the most dramatic civilisation collapses in recorded history,
during what has been referred to as the Terminal Classic Period A.D. ∼700 to 950 (Haug et al, 2003).
Interestingly, the ancient civilisation has been characterised by its collapse in the 9th century, perhaps
even more so than its remarkable accomplishments, such as: creating vast hierarchical and political
structures, architecture and symbolic artwork (Masson, 2012). The Maya empire comprised of
indigenous populations, who were situated in North America, and inhabited southern present day
Mexico, Belize, El Salvador, Houndras and the semi tropical lowland environment of Guatemala
(Faust, 2001). The Maya collapse is an incredibly controversial topic, which is still debated in society
today. Many substantial arguments have been placed to explain the fundamental cause of collapse,
especially the downfall of the Maya lowland areas of the Yucatán peninsular region, which was
arguably affected the most significantly. Consequently, this essay will examine the key hypotheses
presented for the reasoning behind the collapse of the ancient Maya. Focusing on: drought and
whether its cause was due to natural climatic changes or anthropogenic forcing, social factors such as,
disease and war, and finally political and cultural issues, which may have led to the Maya demise.

Rhetorical Analysis Of David Sedaris s Me Talk Pretty One Day
Final Revision Rhetorical Analysis of David Sedaris s
Me Talk Pretty One Day
This essay Me Talk Pretty One Day about the author David Sedaris stands one of his phenomenal
pieces that he got us used to. He indicated several techniques throughout his essay that included more
meaning and humor to his selection. It s much easier to be anything other than being humorous and
comedic on paper, however David Sedaris continues to be a brilliant author in his selection for the
language techniques that he uses to deliver the smile upon our faces; the extensive imagination to the
scenes of his story. David develops his thesis through delicate humor and entertaining anecdote of his
French course and his know it all professor who finds enjoyment of belittling her students.
One of the most techniques I notice that David uses his selection is the style of Persuasion; Ethos,
Logo and Pathos. The techniques that he used to help broaden the audience s imagination; creating a
clear view of the scenes to what the author is talking about and how he was feeling during those
scenes. David used Pathos for most of his essay, leading his audience into his feelings and emotions as
he tells us his story. In addition to the earlier techniques, David came across some simple, entertaining
methods to accomplish the purpose of this selection (Entertainment). David implied gibberish words
which made it a lot more interesting and enjoyable.
David s first impression of his teacher was: She s mean and

Kant s Claim That Good Will Is The Only Intrinsic Good
Katie Russell Jennifer Thorington PHIL1320.040 11/19/15 Kant ethics As it is a stated fact, Kant s
claim is that good will is the only intrinsic good. Now, what exactly does Kant mean by this claim that
he makes? I think that it is important to mention what good will is. So, good will has two parts, one is
the ability to determine what your duty is and two is have a steady commitment to do your duty for its
own sake. Intrinsic goods are those things that whose value consists in the fact that they help to bring
about other good things. So what exactly does Kant mean when he says that good will is the only
intrinsic good? Basically it boils down to this, you have to have the right intentions when doing
something and obey the moral law and in those things are where you find what is intrinsically good.
We can be doing the right thing according to what we believe is morally right but at the same time it
doesn t have to be good will. For example, I could think that I m doing the right thing of tearing down
homes to better a community but that s not actually my duty, so therefore it s not a good will. On

first categorical imperative says, act only in accordance with that maxim through which you can at the

We got to the one lane bridge slowed and crossed it then sped up as we approached the hill after it.
The hill is pretty bad because the road curves sharply to the right going up and the angle of the road
slants the wrong way. Also, there are steep cliffs on both sides of the road. We started up the hill fine;
made it to the curve, then in the middle of the curve we hit the grader bump that marked the end of
road maintenance. Jerad couldn t quite keep control of the light truck and we went into a slide. We slid
into the left lane sideways then the tires caught for a second and we were propelled back into the right
lane headed right for the cliff s edge.
I think we would have all just died from fright long before the truck reached the cliff bottom, but Jerad
had the wheel spun hard to the left. Right before we reached the edge of the cliff, the tires caught
again and we were suddenly not looking out into space any longer. Instead, we were gaping 180

Suprisingly the little truck had its own ideas about smashing into a hill and instead decided to climb it.

Social Bond Theory
Through the evolution of social bonds, individuals have always been under scrutiny to abide by a list
of rules in order to be successful in their community. This ideology is made evident in the book, The
Code of the Street, by Elijah Anderson. Anderson dissects and exposes the various issues dealing with
families in urban minority communities. These families are labeled as street and decent . The
connotation of the term code of the street is a set of accepted and understood set of rules in which
street and decent families abide by in order to function in modern day street society. These regulatory
rules are known as a code because this term is not blatantly stated, but mutually understood by those
living in these disadvantaged communities. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Aker s social learning theory is evident in Anderson s research in Code of the Street. Aker explains
that the social learning theory attributes learning criminal behavior through the engagement of peers.
This theory can be practical in understanding the code of the streets of minorities in urban
communities. Modern society has put a label on crime in that it is inappropriate and that people should
not participate in it. However, those in disadvantaged communities who abide by the code of the street
allow the denotation of crime to change in their attempts to survive in such conditions. Anderson

North Korean Political Policies On North Korea
Introduction
Beginning in the early 1940 s, Korea has been a split nation; the great divide that happened in initially
in 1945 was just the beginning of what would become one of the world s most infamous splits of a
country. Radically different in political regime and agenda, these countries provide for a very complex
case study of border conflict. Due to its extremely repressive regime, North Korea stands as one of the
worst places to call home in the world, while South Korea is incredibly more liberal. Despite the
inescapable amounts of propaganda imposed on the citizens of North Korea, the current generations of
North Koreans hold ties to South Korea through separated family, making South Korea a very
attractive but forbidden land. While South Korea continues to center its foreign policy on loosening
the strict rule of the North Korean government, North Korea remains stubborn and the struggle
remains in tow with the stark differentiation between ideologies politically, militarily, and culturally.
History of Korea
In the mid 10th century, the Silla regime was overtaken by the Goryea regime in what is today Korea
when it was one land, and one people. The name Korea was directly derived from the pronunciation of
the Goryea. (Shelley, 500). The first separation of the territory of Korea came after World War II
ended, and the Soviets occupied the Northern portion of Korea, while the Americans occupied the
Southern portion. This separation was never actually intended to

seen as dishonest for many reasons. He cheats on homework and tests, blames things on his brother,
and steals from the Barnett store. He was held back into the seventh grade again, and now he has

house to hang out he found the answers and wrote them down. He also knew that Stacey would rip

somebody, and it works. T.J also talked Stacey out of his new coat. Stacey got a new coat from Uncle
Hammer. It was a little big, but it was way nicer than the one that he had before. T.J really wanted the
coat, so he tricked Stacey into giving it to him. He did this by saying that other kids were making fun
of him, saying that he looked like a preacher. Stacey felt embarrassed, and gave the coat to T.J when
he told him that he would give it back, after he grew into it. This shows that Stacey was foolish to
listen to T.J, but it also shows how sneaky T.J can really be. T.J is sneaky in many ways in this book.
Another example was when he was talking about how he gets out of his cores and other work that
needs to be done at his house. He told Stacey that whenever there is work that has to be done, and
someone has to go somewhere to get it done, he volunteers himself to do it. Then when he goes, he
spends the whole day being gone, so that when he gets back, all the rest of the work is done. See,
fellows, there s a system to getting out of work. Jus don t be round when it s got to be done. Only
thing is, you can t let your folks know that s what you re doin . This is really sneaky of T.J, but it is

Assess sociological explanations of changes in the status of childhood?
Childhood is a social construction and varies between times, places and groups. Most sociologists see
our ides of childhood as a fairly recent one, the result of industrialisation and other social changes.
Modern society constructs childhood as a tie of vulnerability, innocence and segregation from the
adult world. The March of progress sociologist believe we live in an increasingly child centred

These have encouraged parents to make a greater financial and emotional investment in the fewer
children that we have now. Children s health and development became the subject of medical
knowledge. Jacques Donzelot (1977) observes how theories of child development that began to appear
from the 19th century. The laws and policies that apply specifically to children, such as minimum
wages for a wide range of activities from sex to smoking, have reinforced the idea that children are
different from adults and so different rules must be applied to their behaviour.
The march of progress view
Is that position of children has improved dramatically in a relatively short period of time. However,
conflict sociologist such as Marxists and feminists dispute this. They argue that society is based on
conflicts between social groups such as social classes or between genders. In this conflict, some
groups have more power, status or wealthy than others. Conflict sociologist see the relationship
between groups as one of domination and subordination, in which the dominant act as oppressors.
Conflict sociologist argues that the march of progress view of modern childhood is based on false and
idealised image that ignores important inequalities. They criticise the march of progress view on two
grounds and they; that there are inequalities among children in terms of the opportunities and risks
they face, many today remain

Who Are The Most Powerful Characters In Macbeth
What does it mean to be powerful? In William Shakespeare s Macbeth, Macbeth is initially loyal to
the throne because he helps fight for Scotland and executes the rebel Thane of Cawdor. Later he
becomes a traitor by turning on King Duncan. After Macbeth s actions he falls to his terrible tragedy.
Although Macbeth s physical traits can be associated with being powerful, the weird sisters are the
most powerful characters because they can control the weather, alter sleep patterns, and predict the
future.
To begin, the witches reveal they can change the direction and force of the winds. After the first witch
tells her story about the sailor s wife, the second witch says what she will do about the sailor and his
wife. She says I ll give thee a wind (i.iii.12). The witch says that she is going to make the weather
outside windy to push his ship further out to sea. Knowing that the witches can make changes to the
weather shows they are powerful because they can create a storm at any given time, causing accidents
to occur. LIke in the real world, weather that is rainy/ windy ect is associated with unpleasant things

While Herminio was in prison, Cuesta told him about the night of an abortive raid against Castro.
After his story, Diaz uttered words that Cuesta would always remember. When sharing his story,
Martinez said Herminio confessed to Tony Cuesta that he had taken part in the death of the US
president. Many years later, in Florida, Reinaldo heard the same evidence from another person, a
fellow Cuban exile, Remigio Arce, who said, Listen, the one who killed the president was our little
friend. Investigative writer Anthony Summers believes that what Martinez is the truth. Martinez struck
me after two days of tough interviewing of a man in his eighties as someone with nothing to gain, who
appeared to be credible. Diaz seems to be the killer, he was a known political assassin, a marksman
and an employee for Santo Trafficante, one of the two suspects in the assassination. He was also
involved with one of the more dangerous and extreme anti Castro groups. The Mafia had every motive
to do away with President Kennedy because they were being pursued as never before by the
government. At the same time, a large part of the anti Castro movement felt betrayed by Kennedy. It

Both were formed by university students during a time of young political activism. There was also a

Huron Statement when they wrote, Our work is guided by the sense that we might be the last
generation in the experiment with living. But we are minority. Hence for the SDS members, they not
only felt they were the age group that knew best the turbulent times, but they were also the only ones
who fathomed the issues behind the chaos. Likewise, the writers behind the Sharon Statement stated
that In this time of moral and political crisis, it is the responsibility of the youth of America to affirm
certain eternal truths. It was up to the young conservatives to point out the issues of contemporary
America and call for a return to the universal principles that the country was supposedly founded
upon. Both manifestos recognized a crisis happening in the US and sought to rectify their truths
politically, economically and socially. Moreover, the YAF and SDS both argued from a similar point
of view: that the government and its policies were the main instigators for the political, social and
economic issues during the early 1960s. The YAF saw the government as acting beyond [their]
rightful functions and thus has reduced the American concept of liberty and freedom. Yet the Sharon
Statement associated these political intrusions to the government s role in the state economy.

Describe Dilemma: What was the ethical dilemma the professional faced? Given the information
provided in the article, Former Sheriff Guilty in Successor s Killing the most profound ethical
dilemma faced by the involved criminal justice professionals is the decision to develop a plea for the
actual perpetrators of the crime that allowed immunity upon testifying against the mastermind of the
plot to kill the newly elected sheriff. Given the history of the ousted sheriff, Sidney Dorsey there is a
clear sense that the prosecution and judges involved developed the opinion that despite the

some degree sacrificed their cases against the assassins by allowing them to testify with impunity after

is refereeing to literally and give it some leeway to avoid an absurd result. In the case of R VS
Bentham the golden rule could have been used as it would have changed the outcome from the literal
rule. In this rule he could have been found guilty as he may not have carried a gun but he was faking
having one which could fall under the Firearms Act 1968. One advantage if this is that if there are any
loopholes in the law that people could exploit, they can be closed so people do not get away with
some crimes. Another advantage if this is that it

Sustainability Education and Recent Debates on Climate Change
In the beginning of 1860s John Tyndall was discovered Carbon dioxide s heat trapping properties
(Chivers, D. 2011). From that time scientists from educational, political and philosophical ideologies
fields have been appeared with different points of view Hicks, D. (2007). Some of those scientists are
requesting urgent support to climate change situation Chivers, D. (2011). While on the other hand
another advocates minimize the importance of climate change situation Chivers, D. (2011). These
conflicts have made an increasing number of debates between scientists. This caused born of new
studies, articles, researches and approach called sustainability education. (Thomas et al. (2007) sighted

conduct of the recent debates. Another examples given by Hegarty, K (2011) that sustainability
education courses takes a triple bottom line (TBL) , or three pillars approach to the presentation of
sustainability (Goldie, Douglas, and Furnass 2005), highlighting the highly interdependent, often
contradictory, relationship of the three elements of sustainability: society, environment and economy.
Figure one exemplifies this relationship (Maryland 2007). This means the more sustainability
researches, reports and new evidences the more new debates. Another example is Danny Chivers. He
is a climate change researcher, activist, carbon footprint analyst and performance poet. He is an
activate advocate request to support the climate change situation urgently. He made many efforts
trying to convince the international community the importance of paying more attention to the
environment. He is an example of one of the recent debates that affect sustainability education. He is
the author of the all new No Nonsense Guide to Climate Change, published by New Internationalist a
handy pocket guide to the latest climate change science, targets, solutions, politics, activism, and the
way forward Chivers, D. (2011). These were some examples how the sustainability education affects

Dialectical Journal For Animal Farm By George Orwell
The ending to this book was depressing. It evoked feelings of sadness, anger and indignation. Sadness
because the animals thought that they were working towards something meaningful to them, all
together. They fought hard, as a unit, to overthrow Jones and continued to work hard throughout to
better all of their conditions . As the story line progresses, you see that they are being taken advantage
of, yet still innocently believe they are working towards an improved life. The rebellion results were
not as they had hoped, as the book ends. The feeling of anger arises when the animals become aware
that there is little difference between the pigs and the people they wanted liberty from. The animals
had trusted the pigs to lead them to freedom,

The Cocktail Party Sparknotes
At the beginning of the essay, the narrator of the events elapsed among the story prevail anonymous,
giving the readers the opportunity to develop their own opinión regarding the occurrences that are
being reported. These events possess a tone of suspicion and fear when the narrator describes how the
baby s mother waits for the light to change and her hands close tighter on the stroller s handle as she
sees the man approach . However, the tone changes to expectation when the woman passes a folded
dollar over her child s head to the man who stands and stares . It is in that moment when the narrator
questions the actions of the woman, looking to cause a reaction in the readers that is going to make
them doubt was it fear or compassion that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

author directed the book is possibly medium to high class, with a basic level of education and reside in

can t take Manhattan anymore and our citizens dream of the open spaces of Wyoming, the manicured
exclusivities of Hobe Sound just as her allusions to historic events, for example there is much about

Personal Narrative-Changing Experience
One day, about 8 years ago, I learned how to do something that I thought I would never be able to do.
First, I never thought that I could learn to ride my bike. I had been practicing to ride my bike for about
a year. The year before kindergarten, I was practicing on by bike with training wheels. I had rode on
my grannies porch every day. When I started kindergarten, I could not ride my bike as often, but I
would always go to my grannies after school and ride it up and down the porch. One day my granny
saw me riding and said that it was about time to get a bike without training wheels. I begged her every
day after that to get me a bike. She said that I had to wait until Christmas. I was mad at her. When I
went to Wal mart with her we would go and look at the bikes. I told her witch one I wanted, she said
to wait until Christmas. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I started talking to my granny, and that s when poppy came up behind me with a bike with out training
wheels. I told granny that she better not let me go until I said too, she said okay. She started pushing
me and before I knew it I was riding a bike all by myself. They were cheering me on, it made me feel
like I was the best bike rider in the world. I got off and granny came up to me and gave me a hug and
said Good job. All the rest of the day I stayed outside to ride my bike. When my mom and dad got
home I told them the great news. We all went outside to watch me ride my bike. The next day, my
cousin came over and we raced. I won! He said that he let me win, but I think I won fair and square.
When I told Granny that I won, she said that I was a really good bike rider, since I just learned to ride

This episode starts with the title of the show clearly presented centre screen with the current main
institutional colour of Newsround, blue. The rest of the set is mainly in darkness except for the main
screen at the back, which contains a white and purple globe like the one on BBC news which is red
and white, and rectangular blue lights are also featured on the set. Purple is also an institutional colour
of Newsround that is why it is included. The singular female presenter is seen in a full body shot. The
main set lights come on and the camera pans in on the presenter, now able to be seen, until it is a MS
with part of the globe still in shot which also occurs in other BBC news show making it institutional.

Landmines-Personal Narrative
These people weren t trying to kill me, they were just going about their daily lives, same as every
other person. Besides, I didn t even have my gun with me. I didn t trust myself with it ever since I shot
a hole in the bedroom door while my wife was sleeping because I thought I heard someone coming up
the stairs. At this point, the man was maybe twenty feet away from me. I could feel my heart pounding
against my chest, my mind urging me to bolt for the door and make an escape. More questions flashed
through my mind, all of them without answers. Who are you? What are you going to do to me? What
do you WANT? I was being noticeably paranoid, and the bartender must have caught on because he
put his hand on my shoulder. Startled, I nearly jumped out of my seat. He had probably said something

He was still terrified, but there was something about him that seemed almost calm. He was right,
though. We had gone over how these landmines worked in basic training, and there was no hope for
him. Any force over five pounds arms the mine, and if too big of a change in weight is detected, it
detonates. The catch with these mines was that there was a timer built into them, and it would still
explode, regardless of pressure, exactly sixty seconds after arming. I can t leave you here, we have to
do something! I shouted at him, clueless as to what I could do to save my best friend.. Anderson
looked me straight in the eyes. You have to get out of here now, understand? No, I can t. I won t! I was
on the verge of tears. I knew I didn t have much time left, but I had to do something. It s not your
fault, ok? Anderson said, his voice still shaky. But listen to me, you have to get out of here. I m not
leaving, damn it! Please. No! Anderson knew that we had only seconds left. Get out of here. That s an
order. I hesitated for a second, but met his

Applying for Graduate Studies in Engineering
I am currently working as a Physical Design Engineer at Qualcomm India Private Limited ,
Bangalore, India and I hold a bachelor s degree in Electronics Instrumentation Engineering from
Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University, Hyderabad, India. I want to pursue graduate studies
because it provides me the right platform for research. I envision a career involved mainly with
research because it welcomes new ideas, gives me more opportunities to explore my areas of interest
and put forward new theories and implement them on my own. I feel that formulating and developing
ideas is actually always more interesting than merely using them.
Electronics Instrumentation Engineering at JNTU Hyderabad laid the right platform for me in gaining
knowledge in the domain of electronics and its related fields. My interest in circuit design was sparked
by the course Electronic Devices Circuits where I first learned the principles of circuit analysis. I
learned from fundamental concepts to the advanced design and analysis methods of VLSI integrated
circuits and their diverse applications, during my junior and senior years, through courses like Linear
Digital Integrated Circuits, DSP, VLSI design and their associated course projects. I was deeply
impressed by how semiconductors and VLSI have brought forth a reign in electronics industry with
their immensely wide applications.
As an undergraduate student I had a strong reputation in the university. I ranked third in my
department. My

Pop Culture And Technology Of The 1980s
The 1980s were the years of big change. Women became more independent and cared more about
their careers, music shaped the fashion industry, and computers altered the American lifestyle. The go
go eighties caused a substantial revolution in fashion, entertainment, and technology. To fully
understand how the 1980s shaped America, one must review the details of fashion, entertainment, and
technology of the go go eighties.
The fashion of the 1980s was influenced by the expansion of technology allowing celebrities fashion
to be shown across the world faster (1980s News, Events, popular Culture, and Prices). According to
the article, 1980s News, events, Popular Culture, and Prices, media such as television shows and
music videos enabled people to view what celebrities were wearing at a much quicker pace rather than
waiting for a magazine to come out. This caused individuals to easily go out to the mall and acquire
the newest trends (1980s News, Events, Popular Culture, and Prices). In the article titled, 1980s News,
Events, Popular Culture, and Prices, some of these trends included big teased hair or spiral perms for
women, mullets for men, oversized tops, ripped denim, and tight exercise clothing; such as leg
warmers and spandex. According to The 1980s: American Pop Culture History , flamboyant make up,
neon accessories; such as sunglasses, bangles and hoop earrings were an essential part of the 1980s
fashion as well. According to the article titled, 1980s News,

The Norm Of Conformity
According to an article by Saul McLeod in Simple Psychology, conformity is a type of social
influence involving a change in belief or behavior in order to fit in with a group (McLeod What ). It is
not an uncommon experience in life to encounter yourself or others yielding to group pressure.
Sometimes the situation is as simple as the celebration of some random basketball team making it
through to the next playoff game, not actually caring who shot that winning basket, but joining in the
excitement because it would be considered the norm within that social group. So for years now
scientists of all specialties have been asking the question, why is it that people conform, and where
will they draw the line? To explain, in 1955 Deutsch, M

Medicine In The Islamic Empire
Other than providing much of the grounds of modern medicine, medicine in the Islamic Empire was
innovatory, pre eminent and revolutionary. For instance, in 706 CE, the first hospital was built by
Muslims in Baghdad and the building of hospitals were continued until every major city in the Islamic
world had several hospitals, some specialised for certain areas of disease, including mental and
emotional. These hospitals were places of clinical training and learning for aspiring doctors as well as
treatment centres for patients. After performing physical examinations, working at ward rounds and
attending lectures, students were required to pass practical and oral exams for a doctor s license. As
well as having futuristic systems to supply a certified ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Advanced technology supported the high standard of living of the general population, and is still
upholding much of our standard of living today. A large proportion of today s technology is derived or
constructed upon the work of Muslim Inventors. During the 10th and 11th century, a famous Arab
astronomer and mathematician of the age, Ibn Al Haytham, became the first to have a correct
understanding of the human vision and was therefore able to create the first effective camera which
without, the modern camera would be impossible. The Da Vinci of the Islamic world, Ibn Firnas,
devised a flying costume during the 9th century. He launched himself off the side of a mountain
wearing his invention in order to test his device and became the first man to attempt controlled flight.
The experiment was partially successful as he remained aloft for a few seconds. The somewhat
successful glider later inspired Leonardo Da Vinci to design his own flying device which provided the
foundations of modern flight. The first automatic and mechanical clocks were also introduced by
Muslim inventors, most remarkable of which is the elephant clock a sizeable, automatic clock that
used Greek water raising technology, an Indian elephant, an Egyptian phoenix, Arabian figures and

  • 2. Similarities And Differences Between South Africa And Haiti In South Africa the first period up to 1910 indicated the establishment of schools, which were mainly church schools, and the centre of a State system. According to Malherbe (1925:24), education in the early days was haphazard and the nomadic people prevented the establishment of permanent schools. Parents were responsible for hiring a schoolmaster who moved around with the community providing tuition. Home instruction was therefore normal. Education was therefore a private and local affair (Squelch, Private Education in South africa, 1997) Public Education Around 60% of South African learners attending public schools attend no fee schools. The rest go to schools that charge fees. Some of these schools charge less than R1 000 a year. These ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... • 3. americanisation of australian television Essay The Americanization of Australian Television is a sad and terrible thing. It is a process whereby ordinary Australians are bombarded every day with images of American lifestyle, so much that it merges almost unnoticed into their own lifestyle. It is a process whereby our home grown entertainment industry is overwhelmed by the enormous powerhouse of the American economy, with drastic effects upon the modern Australian nation. Not only is Australian free to air TV being dominated by American produced shows, but a lot of the content on the Australian TV shows is sourced from America. American culture is part of Australian mass consumer culture, It dominates our television. If we look at the early history of Australian television, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... I have tried. The only local program I could praise is Wildside ( Cited in the Sydney Morning Herald, David Dale). So whilst there are many Australians concerned over this issue there are so many more that do not see the affect the American TV culture is having on Australian television and its identity, the distinction between what is inside and outside Australian culture is slipping away. The influence of Americanisation upon Australian Free to air TV is clearly evident, If we look at the top 10 shows that are viewed by the Australian public today it would be obvious that the top two shows are both American produced, Lost and Desperate Housewives (Top 10 shows, Who Magazine.). Lost and Desperate Housewives are doing very well, loading up the viewing figures in the US favour. But go back six months and the picture would be far more balanced. Jump eight years back, and Blue Heelers was holding its own against Friends (Bell Phillip, Television 1997 Twenty Most popular programs). The Australian audience is becoming more Americanised, as more and more prefer watching American TV shows opposed to the ones made in Australia. Shows like SVU, Law and Order, CSI (and its derivatives), NCIS, and the OC, dominate the TV screens of many Australian households today. Ordinary Australians spend many hours watching TV (especially Australian youth), ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. John Malcolm Fraser Research Paper John Malcolm Fraser was an Australian politician who was the 22nd Prime Minister of Australia and the Leader of the Liberal Party from 1975 to 1983. On the 16th of december, 1976, was the enactment of Aboriginal Land rights (Northern Territory) Act. This act secured the Aboriginal right to their ancestors land. This act is significant in that it was the first of the Aboriginal land rights acts, allowing for a claim of title if claimants can provide evidence of their traditional association with land. His motivation, contribution and involvement has still not to this day been forgotten by the Aboriginal people. Malcolm Fraser did not believe that Aboriginals were being treated fairly and this showed in his contribution to the Aboriginal Land rights act. The Northern Land Council s chairman, Mr Samuel Bush Blanasi, said Mr Fraser was a great friend of Aboriginal people in the Northern Territory. Mr Fraser ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This was watered down from the Whitlam proposals but remains a significant milestone in both the recognition of Aboriginal rights and their practical fulfilment. His government also established the Human Rights Commission whose work has continued to monitor and advocate for the human rights protections of all Australians, with a special role in relation to Indigenous people. His government also took some important measures in terms of the protection of the Australian environment. It was the Fraser government that prohibited exploration and drilling on the Great Barrier Reef. The Aboriginals would have looked very highly on him for this, as he is involved in saving their land. It started a little like this, there was a knock on the door and I got up to go see who it was. When I opened the door there was a man on his horse. The man asked my parents were home, they were, so I said I could go and get them. Once I had gotten my parents the man asked if they are willing to go on a trip through the sea to Kwillining, London. They said they would, so they put in there few overalls and dirty old jeans into a small waggon that are going to have to hall 46 miles to get to the ship. I have two brothers ... A man about twice the height as me then thundered in. The man started rambling on about how everyone is dieing and that the world was going to end. I noticed there were swollen oval shaped things the size of an apple. The man then asked, I ve traveled a long way and i m so tired of seeing dead bodies everywhere I go I was also wondering if I could sit a while here. Just about everyone is dead around here. I told him he could stay a while and I got him some fresh water. The man said he would replace our door and he was very sorry for hacking it down. There is an unmistakable contrast between being a supervisor and a leader. A leader is an inspiration for others and rouses people to point high and accomplish that point. However a manager just regulates over his subordinates. Control actually goes to a pioneer, yet that power is not a device of leader. The way species exist is of great complexity as many factors such as: competition and predation play an important role (Chase et al. 2002; Holt 1984; Paine 1966). Ecosystems, communities and populations all face competition between their species. Studies are constantly being done to show how different species survive together or die trying and what is it that they are fighting to survive over. The prey will go slam down on the ground in seconds and be devoured in minutes by the lion. The lion is allelopathy at its best because there is competition over survival and territory with animals of this nature. Territory can be a limited resource depending on the time of year and the environment as a whole, trees and brush being chopped down pose a problem when it comes to sneaking up on prey. Gause started experimenting on protists to observe their development and observe their survival ability together (Gause). Paramecium can be found in many places: wet areas like lakes and rivers or dry areas such as those of trees and soil. Gause set out to experiment with Paramecium aurelia and Paramecium caudatum to determine if they fit the competitive exclusion theory that he came up with (Gause 1935). The class was given both parameciums to experiment with for the validity of coexistence. The competitive exclusion theory begs the question, can two species coexist together over a resource or will one of them be driven to extinction? Gause may have been the leader to start the protists experiment but he wasn t the only one to question competition. Gill had questioned Gause s theory and decided to do his own research. Gill experimented on two species pure and mixed cultures of Paramecium aurelia. After experimenting Gill discovered that Paramecium aurelia did not match up to Gause s theory and did not compete over a limited resource instead ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 13. The Future of the Arctic Is in Our Hands Preface The arctic is facing today drastic climate changes that, together with technological development will in the near future disclose the Arctic s economic potential. We, the people of Greenland, believe that the inhabitants of the Arctic should be the first to benefit from the economic opportunities the Arctic will bring. As historical inhabitants of the Arctic it is our responsibility to make it a peaceful and rich region ensuring at the same time the safeguard of its environment. The future of the Arctic is in our hands. Kridneh Gnireeh, prime minister of Greenland. Introduction The Arctic has been warming faster than any other region on the planet: Greenland s ice sheet has experienced a steady melting and will along with the Arctic s ice caps contribute to the rise of the global sea levels. Climate change will affect the natural environment enabling the exploitation of oil, gas and minerals, the melting of the Arctic ice caps will open new and more cost efficient trading routes namely the Northern Sea route and the Northwest Passage, in which Greenland will play a strategic role due to its geographical location. The warming of the seas will permit Greenlandic fisheries to expand their activities by locating new fishing grounds further north. In 2009 Greenlanders voted in favor of the Self Goverment Act which transferred more powers from the Government of Denmark to the local Greenlandic government, among these the right to administrate mineral resource ... How to enhance service personnel satisfaction, organizational commitment and job performance is a critical issue in service industry management. In past research on employee satisfaction, organizational commitment and job performance, many scholars (Babin and Boles, 1998; Bernhardt et al., 2000; Van Scotter, 2000; Koys, 2003; Testa, 2001) have validated that employees job satisfaction positively influences job performance and organizational commitment. In studies on factors of employees job satisfaction, job performance and organizational commitment, the service profit chain proposed by Heskett et al. (1994) and service marketing management model indicated by Tansuhaj et al.(1988) on overall service industry both demonstrated that management s internal marketing activities produce job satisfaction and commitment to the organization. This is thanks to the internet and great advances in computers. The buying and selling of illegal black market in drugs and pharmaceuticals now heavy depends on the internet. So why is it that so many movies today revolve around this hellish concept? According to David Denby, the author of High School Confidential: Notes on Teen Movies , there is a whole genre of these teen films. As explained by Denby, such genre films include stereotypical male and female villains of the social queen or jock type, mixed up emotions and teens rising above the poisonous system of status, snobbery and exclusion that is commonly known as high school (Denby 367). In Denby s example, the main character may have suffered from the death of a parent and thus is ill equipped for the emotional pressures of school. (Denby 369). This can be seen to be incredibly true for the main character of The Perks of Being a Wallflower. Through out the film, there are memories brought up from Charlie s past about his best friend s suicide, his Aunt s Death, and his past sexual abuse. For example, when Sam kisses Charlie and rubs his leg, Charlie gets flashbacks of a similar situation in which his adult Aunt sexually abuses him. Due to his past, Charlie is depicted as unable to cope with the problems he faces, through his actions over the course of the film. Charlie takes a passive role in his life. For example, when his sister is abused by her boyfriend, Charlie does not step in. He also doesn t speak up when Mary Elizabeth declares that she and Charlie are dating, though he clearly doesn t have any interest in her. From the audience s point of view, it is known that his passive actions are a result of his emotional problems. • 18. Maslow s Hierarchy Of Needs Theory Maslow s Hierarchy of Needs Theory in Organizational Diversity Psychologist Abraham Maslow established a theory of motivation to justify how people in diverse organizations behave. His human requirements theory states that humans are never completely satisfied; that they crave satisfaction and those requirements can be classified into a hierarchy based upon importance. The lowest level of importance includes peoples desire to satisfy their physical needs, such as hunger and thirst. Following the lowest level, individuals need basic security and stability. After physical and safety needs are satisfied, individuals have the desire to gain acceptance into a group and to establish meaningful relationships. Once this need is somewhat fulfilled, one will strive for self confidence and personal achievement. Lastly, an individual must realize their potential or they will become dissatisfied and discontent. This theory assists managers to motivate subordinates in a diverse workplace by ensuring low level needs are met first. Then, management will be able to pursue supervising employees as they complete more multifaceted tasks. An effective manager influences employees positively by creating a safe work environment, providing the necessary tools and resources and involving employees in decision making processes (Maslow, 1943, 1954). Maslow s hierarchy of needs theory has particularly created a glass ceiling in art museum curating by hindering individuals personal achievements, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 19. Measuring The Load Pattern Of Measuring A Minimum Of Two... In some cases, lateral force shapes result to good approximation of demand displacements. Nevertheless, there has not been found any constant loading for exact approximation of local mechanisms and plastic hinges. Earthquake codes have made it mandatory to use a minimum of two lateral load patterns in nonlinear static procedure. These two load patterns are chosen to cover resulting forces in actual dynamic response of the structure. There are two load patterns which are used mostly in usual studies: uniform and modal load pattern. When using uniform load pattern, called also constant acceleration pattern, lateral forces applied to the structure are proportional to the mass of the building stories. This load pattern emphasizes on bottom floors demands more than top floor demands. It also increases the importance of shear in stories against overturning moment while modal load pattern emphasizes overturning moment and story demands. The FEMA356 code allows using comparative load pattern instead of constant load pattern. In this method the load pattern varies by plastic hinges as the displacements in the structure increase. Obviously, none of these shapes of constant loading can perform redistribution of inertia forces which occur with the first local mechanism and change of dynamic properties of the structure. Therefore, it is interesting to find a load shape which is closer to the variation of inertia forces distribution and gives a better approximation of the behavior of ... An accidental fight started at school to where no parties were at fault until a circle was formed around us showing all the students that I am white and she is black. The school was enjoying a festival watching a talent show when a girl behind me accidently spilled her nachos on to my head, this may have started a fight against many students primarily of opposite races and I was to blame. I went to a public Junior High School in Long beach, CA. This was a very culturally diversified school; the students had their clicks, as most students would call them. This is typically groups of people of the same interests: jocks, nerds, rebels, hippies and groups of the same racial background: African American, Caucasian, Filipino, Korean, Hispanic, or Samoan. The whole school was treated to a festival with good food, music, games and a talent show showcasing student performers. Some of the performers played instruments, acted out dramas, or danced. The festival was outside in the food court area, where we typically have lunch. It was a warm day and I was sitting by myself in a crowd of students watching the talent show. My legs were crossed on the floor, however, feeling a bit bored I decided to wrap the straps of my backpack around my legs tangling them. The talent show was coming to an end and the DJ started to play some music. When all of a sudden, the teacher announced on the microphone anyone wants to come up on stage!? The Ancient Civilization The ancient Maya civilisation has generated great interest in many academic scholars and scientists, due to the phenomenon which saw one of the most dramatic civilisation collapses in recorded history, during what has been referred to as the Terminal Classic Period A.D. ∼700 to 950 (Haug et al, 2003). Interestingly, the ancient civilisation has been characterised by its collapse in the 9th century, perhaps even more so than its remarkable accomplishments, such as: creating vast hierarchical and political structures, architecture and symbolic artwork (Masson, 2012). The Maya empire comprised of indigenous populations, who were situated in North America, and inhabited southern present day Mexico, Belize, El Salvador, Houndras and the semi tropical lowland environment of Guatemala (Faust, 2001). The Maya collapse is an incredibly controversial topic, which is still debated in society today. Many substantial arguments have been placed to explain the fundamental cause of collapse, especially the downfall of the Maya lowland areas of the Yucatán peninsular region, which was arguably affected the most significantly. Consequently, this essay will examine the key hypotheses presented for the reasoning behind the collapse of the ancient Maya. Focusing on: drought and whether its cause was due to natural climatic changes or anthropogenic forcing, social factors such as, disease and war, and finally political and cultural issues, which may have led to the Maya demise. He indicated several techniques throughout his essay that included more meaning and humor to his selection. It s much easier to be anything other than being humorous and comedic on paper, however David Sedaris continues to be a brilliant author in his selection for the language techniques that he uses to deliver the smile upon our faces; the extensive imagination to the scenes of his story. David develops his thesis through delicate humor and entertaining anecdote of his French course and his know it all professor who finds enjoyment of belittling her students. One of the most techniques I notice that David uses his selection is the style of Persuasion; Ethos, Logo and Pathos. The techniques that he used to help broaden the audience s imagination; creating a clear view of the scenes to what the author is talking about and how he was feeling during those scenes. David used Pathos for most of his essay, leading his audience into his feelings and emotions as he tells us his story. Now, what exactly does Kant mean by this claim that he makes? I think that it is important to mention what good will is. So, good will has two parts, one is the ability to determine what your duty is and two is have a steady commitment to do your duty for its own sake. Intrinsic goods are those things that whose value consists in the fact that they help to bring about other good things. So what exactly does Kant mean when he says that good will is the only intrinsic good? Basically it boils down to this, you have to have the right intentions when doing something and obey the moral law and in those things are where you find what is intrinsically good. We can be doing the right thing according to what we believe is morally right but at the same time it doesn t have to be good will. Radically different in political regime and agenda, these countries provide for a very complex case study of border conflict. Due to its extremely repressive regime, North Korea stands as one of the worst places to call home in the world, while South Korea is incredibly more liberal. Likewise, the writers behind the Sharon Statement stated that In this time of moral and political crisis, it is the responsibility of the youth of America to affirm certain eternal truths. It was up to the young conservatives to point out the issues of contemporary America and call for a return to the universal principles that the country was supposedly founded upon. Both manifestos recognized a crisis happening in the US and sought to rectify their truths politically, economically and socially. Moreover, the YAF and SDS both argued from a similar point of view: that the government and its policies were the main instigators for the political, social and economic issues during the early 1960s. The YAF saw the government as acting beyond [their] rightful functions and thus has reduced the American concept of liberty and freedom. Yet the Sharon Statement associated these political intrusions to the government s role in the state economy. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 37. Article Analysis of Former Sheriff Guilty in Successor s... Describe Dilemma: What was the ethical dilemma the professional faced? Given the information provided in the article, Former Sheriff Guilty in Successor s Killing the most profound ethical dilemma faced by the involved criminal justice professionals is the decision to develop a plea for the actual perpetrators of the crime that allowed immunity upon testifying against the mastermind of the plot to kill the newly elected sheriff. Given the history of the ousted sheriff, Sidney Dorsey there is a clear sense that the prosecution and judges involved developed the opinion that despite the involvement of hired assassins the most dangerous criminal was in fact Dorsey. In so doing they to some degree sacrificed their cases against the assassins by allowing them to testify with impunity after facing acquittals in their own murder trials. Patrick Cuffy, Paul Skyers, Melvin Walker and David Ramsey, all admitted to taking part in the killing but were offered deals that allowed all to walk away with little to no consequences. Describe Options Realized: What options did the professional identify to resolve the dilemma? The options the criminal justice professionals faced included at least two scenarios, one where they held the hired assassins accountable in trial at the risk of not being able to then form a case against Dorsey. Though there was also a risk of the criminal trials of the assassins resulting in convictions as well as information that would allow for the successful ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Another disadvantage is that this follows what the law is saying but it doesn t actually follow what the law was originally intended for. This rule works well for keeping the parliament the supreme law maker as it is not changed or altered in any way when in the courts, but it is not an effective method use to judge a case as it can crate large loop holes where people are able to walk free. This is not fair as it can stop people being properly justified for their crimes. For example R vs Bentham, the defendant was able to lose the charges of possessing a firearm as The defendant did not actually have one despite giving the impression of having one. A different type of rule that could have been used in the court for this case is the golden rule. The golden rule is where the judge will not take the law that it is refereeing to literally and give it some leeway to avoid an absurd result. In the case of R VS Bentham the golden rule could have been used as it would have changed the outcome from the literal rule. In this rule he could have been found guilty as he may not have carried a gun but he was faking having one which could fall under the Firearms Act 1968.
