The Curse Of The Poisened Pretzel Analysis
In the story, The curse of the poisened pretzel, the author develops his point of views in many
ways. He does this without actually stating that Skidmore is guilty. There are many rumors
about why they think he killed his brother and this is why. One of the most promising rumors is
the fact that skiddmore was extremely jelous of his older brother. The majority of the reasoning
behind this is the fact that he was allergic to bubble gum and he saw his older brother flaunting it
as an insult. The fame and riches it brought made the ordeal even worse. Another reason that
people think Skidmore killed his brother was because he wasnt as liked by everyone. His older
brother was a very well liked man that everyone loved. Unlike his bro he gave people

Marketing Plan for Redbox Essay
Redbox: Getting Ahead of the Curve
Redbox is a DVD/Blu Ray rental company which utilizes kiosk machines placed in convenient,
high traffic locations. The first Redbox kiosk was opened by McDonald s in 2002. Redbox was
later purchased by Coinstar, Inc., and over the years, Redbox has rented over one billion movies
and has grown to more than 27,000 locations in restaurants, grocery stores, pharmacies and
convenience stores nationwide. Redbox proves to be a very unique way to rent DVD s and by the
nature of Redbox s rental process, most businesses would benefit from the increased traffic
generated by having a kiosk machine at their location. This type of relationship proves to be a win
win situation for both Redbox and the businesses which ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Not only does Redbox provide a unique service, they provide it at a low cost at convenient
locations. Most movie rental stores charge $4 5 to rent a new release for approximately 3 days,
whereas Redbox provides a similar service for $1.29 per night. This is extremely cheap
considering most consumers watch their movie rental the same day they rent it. Furthermore,
Redbox gets this low cost movie rental product to the consumer through a channel of distribution
historically associated with snack foods and soda. By providing movie rentals through vending
machines called kiosks located at shopping locations where consumers already go to shop, they
have eliminated much of the costs associated with conventional movie rental stores and the need
for consumers to make an additional stop just to rent a movie. Since Redbox s inception, it has
experienced enormous growth and profit, but they will need to evolve in order to get ahead of the
curve.
Although Redbox appears to have established themselves as a formidable competitor to Netflix
and Blockbuster, they are facing a gruesome reality. The take home movie rental business is
rapidly losing ground to online streaming video directly to consumers homes via the internet.
Netflix has already been providing this service for quite some time and both Redbox and
Blockbuster are feeling the pressure. Blockbuster, Inc. has already declared

Essay On Types Of Robots
4.Types Of Robots
Robotics is a very wide and broad area, as it comprises of different fields and has been adapted
by many professional bodies including defense, medicine, agriculture, automobile, aeronautics,
etc. This is why there are no specific types of robots. Hence, we cannot categorically say these are
the types of robots because types of robots are measured in terms of their use, functions,
environment and location system they possess [14, 17, 34]. Thus, here are the basic types of
robots viz: Stationary robots, wheeled robots, legged robots, Vehicle robots, Cloud robots, and
Nano robots.
A.Stationary Robots
These are types of robots which are considered static, meaning they do not move or change position
during operation. Some of them include surgical robots which are often found in hospitals. Another

Wheeled Robots
These types of robots are said to be locomotive in nature. They change their position with the help
of wheels, which make it easier for them to move from one place to another. Some of their
examples include single wheel robots, two wheel, and military robots and so on.
C.Legged robots
These robots are considered the most complex and sophisticated when it comes to locomotion.
They are also known as mobile robots as they can move from place to place on a very quick
speed. They are often characterized by having legs and arms which support their movement or
allow them to get up when they fall down. The most common legged robots in this category are the
popular humanoid robots, military robots, and domestic or household robots [34].
D.Vehicle Robots
This category of robot is considered as one of the largest of all, they include those robots which
cover far distance. They have such locomotive components that could endure any kind of
environment, be it rocky areas, deserts, water or even space. Example of these robots include
Space robots ones used in the space by NASA

Comparing Lang s Nineteen Eighty-Four And Metropolis
Texts often reflect upon problems faced by a society, it the time of the texts creation. Nineteen
Eighty Four by George Orwell and Metropolis by Fritz Lang take the social context of their time to
deliver a warning to society. Through their deliverance of their messages, they explore the impact of
oppression and rebellion and how that has an impact on society, as well as, introspectively. The
puppet in Image 1 is being oppressed by the hand, this is shown through the manipulation of colours
and characters. Isolation and oppression are emphasised by contrasting the colour between the
hand, the puppet and the red string. The hand is perceived with an ominous aura due to its grey
colour but also how it protrudes from the darkness in an unnatural position. Since the hand appears
from the darkness it seems untrustworthy and malicious, furthermore, the unnatural position that it
rests in gives it a controlling aura. Alternatively, the puppet is seen as innocent. A wooden puppet
cannot think for itself, thus, the hand is obviously controlling it. The macabre situation is accented
by the red strings which link the puppet and the hand. Red is... Show more content on

Allusion creates a means for Lang to convey the message without enraging German society in
1927. It has also contributed to the success of the movie because the symbolism is still
recognisable and relevant. Joh Fredersen represents God, he is concerned about what the
workers will do if they do not fear him. However, his son, Freder, is what joins together Joh and
the Workers. Thus, Freder is a Christ like figure. The workers are representative of the people on
Earth who are working to try and get to heaven. The rebellion is caused by machine Maria who is
the epitome of sin which then leads to the flooding of the workers city, which is much like the great
flood. Thus, allusion helps to convey the intensity of the oppression and rebellion in

Macro-Environmental
Executive SummaryThe macro environment consists of larger societal forces that affect entire
micro environment. The six forces making up the company s macro environment include
demographic, economic, natural, technological, political/legal, and social cultural forces.
Companies must constantly watch and adapt to the marketing environment in order to seek
opportunities and ward off threats. The marketing environment comprises all the actors and forces
influencing the company s ability to transact businesseffectively with its target market (Armstrong

Canada s Role In Ww2
In the final two years of the Second World War, Canadian operations was astonishing from the
simple growth and expansion of the RCN, working alongside Britain to engage in and manage
convoy protection. Canada s naval contribution was essential over U Boat attacks on shipping, and
because of such undertakings, Canadian naval officers conducted an ultimately successful
campaign to have Canadas efforts in the Battle of the Atlantic acknowledged by the creation of an
independent Canadian command in the northwest Atlantic. In December 1942, Canada successfully
won an administrative battle to gain responsibility for the distribution of all intelligence concerning
convoys under Canadian control, and because of complex additions to the Enigma machines... Show

Moving forward, it is also highly unlikely that Britain would have survived after the Battle of
Britain had the Royal Canadian Navy not been assisting merchant convoys crossing the Atlantic
from the US and Canada. The air effort presented similar trends as the RCN in May 1945, there
were 784 aircraft in Coastal command, with 511 used against submarines and the rest for enemy
attacks. Approximately 153,000 flight personnel were trained out of a total of 239,761 that
were engaged in British and Commonwealth flying operations, a pivotal choice in gaining air
superiority victory over the sky would never have happened so quickly without Canada s
involvement. The RCAF famously worked with the RCN throughout the Battle of Britain, the
attempt by the German war machine to destroy Britain s Royal Air Force (RAF) and prepare for
invasion after already conquering most of Europe, including France, which was one of Canada
s first campaigns during the first nine months or so of war. Founded in 1924, the RCAF was the
smallest of Canada s services when war broke out in 1939. Attempts to expand and improve the
force up until 1935 were futile, only growing from 569 to 1,031 personnel, just enough for the
needs of war. The Second World War undoubtedly established an aircraft industry and the
progression of civil aviation formed a reserve of skilled pilots from a developed training scheme
established in Canada. The inauguration of the British Commonwealth Air Training Plan (BCATP)
took place, a strategy conceived by Prime Minister King to train pilots and flight personnel in
Canada, so that the Royal Canadian Air Force (RCAF) would remain a safe distance away from the
fighting in Europe and North Africa. This allowed for contribution from the war effort on home

Gambling Legalization

Professor McPhee
English 300 01
March 14, 2011
Gambling legalization for a promising future Gambling is the act of playing for stakes in the hope
of winning (including the payment of a price for a chance to win a prize). (Oxford dictionary)
Many have their own opinions about gambling and at this time gambling is not legally practiced
here in The Bahamas. Such a move would bring an end to an illicit industry that makes tens of
millions of dollars a year and which employs hundreds; but which contributes little to the general
good of the Bahamian people. (The Bahama Journal 2008). There are many aspects of gambling
that can indeed be looked upon positively. Gambling comes in many forms, including betting in

Therefore all of the foreigners that are here now using our casinos and going back with everything,
would have to leave that twenty five percent tax fee for the government.
Legalizing gambling would also lead to a decrease in the unemployment rate. In an article entitled
Gambling Entertainment , it states that The large percentage of employment provided by the
Gambling industry, including the land based casinos as well as the Online casinos, puts gambling
industry on the top of society chart straight away. Having gambling legalized would automatically
mean that employment will increase. At present Gambling is in the underground economy mark
when it comes to calculating the unemployment rate. Since it s illegal workers are considered to be
employed, however legally they re counted as unemployed when it comes to the unemployment
rate. In an article written by Olivia Saunders, Saunders illustrated the unemployment rate in a
diagram that showed an unemployment rate of 7.8 percent. Out of this 7.8 percent count are the
people that are already presently working for number houses, if we legalize gambling that rate
would automatically decrease.
Many are lead to believe that legalizing gambling won t decrease the unemployment rate, because
there are already a substantial amount of lottery houses opened already and there are still many
unemployed, it s impossible for this to help our unemployed, and even if it does, it won t
completely take care

Do Not Go Gentle Into That Good Night by Dylan Thomas
The purpose of this essay is to analyze one of the more popular and well known poems written by
Welsh poet Dylan Thomas, Do Not Go Gentle Into That Good Night. The poem relates to the
shortness of life and the inevitability of death that should not be easily accepted, which was a
common theme for Dylan Thomas. This is ironic given the poet s early death from a drunken
binge in New York City while he was visiting the United States as part of a tour in which he recited
his poems to adoring fans.
Thomas powerful message is contained in the form of a villanelle. The villanelle is a highly
structured poem which makes use of a great deal of repetition in its standard nineteen lines. The
first five stanzas are tercets while the sixth and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Loss of one s faculties can make life seem unbearable but Thomas wants his father to focus on life
s positive aspects and not dwell on the negativity.
In the sixth and final stanza, Thomas speaks to his father directly, having finished his four
examples of men who fight death ( And you, my father, there on that sad height ). Thomas
implores his father on the precipice of death to speak ill or good, as long as it is done with
passion ( Curse, bless me know with your fierce tears, I pray ). The poet realizes passion may
stave off death. He also hopes his father might identify with the four types of men cited in the poem
as Thomas apparently viewed his father as an intelligent and decent, but very ill, free spirit.
Of course, Thomas message isn t meant only for his father. It is normal to have regrets late in
life. It is not uncommon for people to give up hope and look upon death as a welcome prospect.
Yet Thomas realizes that life is better than death, which is the ultimate destroyer of hope in this
life. The poet also reminds us to seize the day and make the most of whatever time we have.
The issue Thomas addresses in his poem can be a very difficult one which all of us may face at
some point. Choosing life over death can be especially difficult for the terminally ill. Their plight
can have a dramatic effect on family members and other loved ones who

Why Premarital Sex Is Becoming An Epidemic
Abstract Premarital sex is becoming an epidemic in the United States, and an even bigger one
on our college campuses, especially Tougaloo College. The objective of my research is to
analysis Tougaloo College Students attitudes and responses towards premarital sex, and also to
see what factors causes premarital sex. My variables for my research are religion and premarital
sex rates. My hypothesis is Tougaloo Students of certain religions have a lower premarital sex
rate then students of other religions, and also lower STD rates. I will collect data from a self
serve questionnaire. With this research I can analysis data to show how premarital sex increases
the prevalence of someone contacting an STD and also show students up bringing is a contributing
factor for premarital sex.

Introduction
Premarital sex is very common in this day and time, but it is becoming very prevalent in our
younger generations. Premarital is defined as proceeding marriage. And sex is defined as sexual

been going on for centuries now, but it is starting to cause an epidemic within our younger
generations. There are many factors of premarital sex but the four I have chosen are pressure,
indiscipline, loneliness, and media.

Why Did The Treaty Of Versailles Fail
After the conclusion of World War One, Germany agreed to the terms of the Treaty of Versailles
which imposed large restrictions on Germany s ability to rebuild. One major imposition of the
treaty was reparations equivalent to ВЈ6,600,000,000 that was to be payed to France, Britain and
America to pay for damages dealt during the war. By 1923, Germanywas struggling to pay
reparations to France, as there economy was already struggling with a lack of able workers, which
lead to the French invasion of the Ruhr; this was especially effective as the Ruhr and the Saar

Behold 2009 By Sheela Gowda
It is interesting to note that this study was conducted amongst 800 companies across Indians hiring
the top brains in the country. Yet, superstitious beliefs were still prevalent.
Sheela Gowda s work entitled, Behold 2009 was first shown at the 53rd Venice Biennale. In it, she
uses four thousand metres of rope hand woven from human hair. Hanging entangled within this
black, knotted mass are twenty steel car bumpers. It is a dig at a common superstition held by
motorists in India. Motorists there often ties woven hair to car bumpers as a talisman for their
safety. In fact, it would not be a surprise if these motorists actually place more belief in this
talisman than the need for regular servicing to their vehicles. For Gowda the piece communicates a
coming together of fear, superstition, belief and a need for comforting action in the framework of
modern life (F).

Gender Roles In The Caribbean Culture
Over several years gender roles have been present in our daily lives. Society has preconceived
judgments on what role each gender should play and when it is ok to go against societal norms.
Although as the years continue to progress and societal norms begin to change, one thing that has
remained the same is the gender rolestigma. Genderroles have been instilled within us even before
we exit our mother s womb, from the color the newborns room is painted in down to the color
clothes they wear. Plenty of research has been conducted on gender roles in Western culture. Some
of the components researchers looked for were, what gender roles are, how they affect society
and the individual along with the culture and history behind where it began (Cobb, R. A., Walsh,
C. E., Priest, J. B. (2009). While researching gender roles and different cultures I could not help
but notice there were little to no research on gender roles within the Caribbean culture. This gap
of literature helped me pose the question why is there plenty of research on gender roles in
Western culture, but a scarce amount of research on gender roles in the Caribbean culture? Along
with, how will we be able to eliminate or shift societal norms of what gender roles should be? It is
important to touch on what gender roles are like in the Caribbean culture because then we can
compare and contrasts how gender roles are displayed within various cultures and ultimately come

According to the most conservative estimates, century energy consumption will double in the
world by the middle of the 21th century (Beretta). It will happen as a result of the population
growth and other geopolitical and economic factors. Thus, the electricity will be required in order
to receive a sustainable development of fuel hydrogen, and provide people with fresh water.
Despite the recent tragic events in Japan and a splash of public distrust to the peaceful atom ,
nuclear power continues to be one of the most promising areas. Demand for electricity, which is

9). Usually receiving the nuclear energy requires a nuclear chain reaction of nuclear fission of
uranium 235 or plutonium. Kernels start dividing after hit by a neutron. It provides new neutrons
and fission fragments. Neutrons and fission fragments have a high kinetic energy. Because of
collisions with other atoms fragments, the kinetic energy transforms into heat. Nuclear fusion is
another way to release nuclear energy. Two nuclei of light elements combine in one grave. Such
processes occur on the Sun. Many atomic nuclei are unstable. Over time, some of these nuclei
spontaneously convert into other nuclei, releasing energy. This phenomenon is called a radioactive
decay. Nuclear energy is produced in nuclear power plants, used in nuclear powered icebreakers
and nuclear submarines. The United States is running a program for developing nuclear engine for
spacecraft. Nuclear energetics is an energy sector, which is engaged in the production of electricity
and heat by converting nuclear energy.
Factors of the Development of Nuclear Energy
The first industrial nuclear power plant with capacity of 5 MW was put into operation in the
USSR (the city of Obninsk) in 1954 (World Energy Council 7). Advanced industrial countries
began to design and build nuclear power plants with reactors of different types. By 1964, the total
capacity of nuclear power plants rose to 5 million kW in the world.

The comparative advantage for computers, then, would go to Japan because they are more efficient
at making them. They produce more computers and give up less than Canada does.
Because Japan has the comparative advantage in producing computers in that example, free
trade would maximize both country s production by having Japan specialize in producing
computers and Canada specialize in producing cars. Then, both countries could trade the
products they specialize in for the other, at a fair rate to be determined separately. Without free
trade, each country had a bigger limit on what good they could produce. With trade, both
countries still have a limit to what the countries can produce, but since they are trading what they
are best at producing, they are maximizing the total numbers of goods in the country. Thus by
trade at a fair, un taxed rate, they are capable of having more goods and services in their country
and any given time. Both countries are able to produce the best they can and thus from trade, they
receive the most of the other good as they possibly can. This is known as the law of comparative
advantage (Mankiw, Kneebone, McKenzie Rowe 55).
In Canada, the law of comparative advantage produces enormous benefits for both consumers and
producers. First, by establishing trade connections with other countries, it allows Canada to
specialize in producing what it is best in producing. No longer does

sidewalk. He risked his well being every day as he persistently sought for new adventures and
structures to walk on. The thrill of each and every experience inspired him to live his life as a

the remarkable date, but does not give us the answer as to why a man with a normal conscience
would do such a thing. Although, there are many theories as to why someone would do such a

more explicit explanation of the motive that thrives Petit towards this treacherous lifestyle.

passionate about is priceless. The sole meaning of living revolved around wire walking when it

Dbq Compromise Of 1877
The year 1877 is considered the year that ended Reconstruction mainly because of the actions that
took place after the election of Rutherford B. Hayes. Initially, it looked as if Democrat Samuel
Tilden had won the election. Tilden had the majority in the popular vote but had only ended with
184 out of a needed 185 electoral votes. Three southern states had disputed returns during this
election and their electoral votes had not been accounted for yet. This led to a few months of both
parties trying to claim the remaining electoral votes. This brings us to the the Compromise of 1877.
This let Hayes have the presidency and in return the southern states had control over their
governments along with some vague promises including a southern transcontinental... Show more

There was a lot of violence that hd happened in the years prior to the election primarily the years
1874 1876. This surge of political violence could be the reaction to the results of the 1872
election which left a Republican in charge. The people participating and leading these violent
action believed that they were doing the right thing in trying to regain white supremacy. In a
religious metaphor that matched their view of the Civil War as a lost crusade, southern
Democrats called their victory Redemption and depicted themselves as Redeemers, holy warriors
who had saved the South from the hell of black Republican rule. (Goldfield, 16.5) There were
instances in which white persons joined together in an effort of intimaidation and were mostly
successful in overthrowing back politicians as well as scaring black voters away from the polls.
One example that had a profound impact was that of the New Orleans Leaguers who attempted to
oust the Republican Governor William P. Kellog in 1874. Although this attempt was more or less
thwarted, they were more successful in the countryside where they attacked and overthrew or
murdered Republican officials in eight

Consumerism Bruce Dawe Essay
Consumerism Bruce Dawe Poetry || 2009
Every society has mythology. In some societies, it s religion. Our religion is consumerism. As we
are constantly exposed to mass media and popular culture in our modern society, the insidious
nature of consumerism has allowed it to penetrate into every aspect of our lives, dictating our very
beliefs, values and wants. Nearly every individual in our society subconsciously conforms to the
shallow and superficial mindset that characterises our consumerist culture. This idea is highlighted
by the following texts; the poem Enter without so much as knocking by Bruce Dawe, an extract
from the sermon The Religion of Consumerism delivered by Peter House, the poem Breakthrough
by Bruce Dawe, and the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This text clearly shows that consumerism is responsible for many of the decisions we make
regarding our life.
Bruce Dawe often deals with the issue of consumerism in his poems. Another of his works that
underlines how much consumerism affects our lives is his poem Breakthrough . The italicised
words at the start of the poem A little girl is reported to have died happily...singing an advertising
commercial. show the extent to which consumerism has affected this girl. On her deathbed, instead
of turning to a traditional faith or religion, she has instead turned to commercialism and
consumerism, highlighting the fact that consumerism has become more relevant and important
than traditional religions, especially to the younger generations. In the first stanza the first three
lines starting with Full volume up on the celestial choir! serve to cheapen her death and turn it
instead into some sort of a production. Full volume up and Stand by for action are examples of
advertising jargon used to further emphasise the point that consumerism exploits and demeans
even something as serious as death. The frail heart crumples like a paper cup compares
something as wonderful and life giving as a human heart to something as cheap and disposable as
a paper cup. This serves as a reminder of

Symbolism In Angel s Ashes
Angela s Ashes: A Memoir
People go through many hardships throughout their lives, and the book Angel s Ashes by Frank
McCourt is the perfect example of how one can overcome.
Frank faced many antagonists throughout his life. One of his antagonist was his Aunt Aggie. She is
always looking down on Angela and her family. After Angela had to be rushed to the hospital the
children had to stay with her, then she looked at the baby and said Jesus above, that baby is a
disgrace (McCourt 241). She also didn t want to push the pram through the town because she
was embarrassed to be seen with it. She passed the remark saying `tis a disgraceful looking
object she d be ashamed to put a mangy dog in (McCourt 241). Sometime she would antagonize
the children by telling them that she can t stand to see them. One day in question, she hit Malachy
with rolled up pieces of paper when he asked her for a piece of bread to eat. Being the childrens
aunt she should never speak to them or treat them in manner, they are already treated like outsiders
by the whole community, they sure don t need that from their family too. Laman ... Show more

whole Limerick community. Frank struggled with his sexual desires because in the church he was

A Research On Big Data
Big Data is a term for very large amounts of formal and informal information that can be analyzed
to find trends and patterns. The information can be about anything, but it needs to be processed
in a way that will give it value and relevance. It can come in multiple formats and from different
sources such as large databases, electronic records, social media, mobile phones, apps, wearable
devices such as pedometers, and others. Different data sets are combined and contrasted in
different ways to give perspectives and insights about a topic. It can be used in a seemly endless
number of ways and people are discovering new ways to use it all the time, some of them
entertaining. The largest areas of use include those relating to consumer behavior and choices,
business procedures, healthcare, science and research, and law enforcement. People are also
discovering its use in their personal lives as well for things like buying a home, dating, fitness
routines and travel. With all the potential benefits that can come from big data, however, it also
brings a big potential for privacy problems. Extensive personal data can be gathered about people
that can be used or abused. In an interview with Harvard Business Review, With Big Data Comes
Big Responsibility, Professor Alex Sandy Pentland from MIT talks about his New Deal on Data to
address data collection and privacy. The concept is a set of principles and practices to define the

The Reform Act And The Municipal Act
The legislation passed in 1832, known as the Great Reform Act , was viewed as a breakthrough
in terms of reforming parliament due to it being the first of its kind. The legislation brought
newly enfranchised towns and cities into the fold, removed rotten boroughs and created a
consistency in voting all of which had been a problem for parliament previously. However many
have argued to the length that this legislation extended to and have countered that the legislation
passed following 1832 was merely a slow progression towards full reform in the 20th century.
These acts still left working men without a vote and franchise was based on property rather than
tax paying. This would suggest to why there was so much disappointment from these acts as a
result, as they simply did not go far enough to reach the expectations that came with them. This
essay will demonstrate why there was such a sense of anticlimax with the legislation itself, as well
as expanding upon the acts that were passed after 1832 such as the second Great Reform Act and
the Municipal act. All of which brought further reform and change that was originally expected
with the Great Reform Act in 1832. The great sense of disappointment stemmed from the idea that
the Great Reform Act did not address the issues that were problematic in this period to the full
extent they should have. A large factor was that of the working class and how they could not vote if
they did not meet certain property requirements or pay the

Persuasive Speech On Rock And Roll
Today, rock and roll music, is not in the forefront of the music industry. Much debate is being
made over its decline, with many people saying that, Rock is dead. While on the other side of the
record album, people are saying, It s not dead and will make a comeback. It is this writer s opinion,
that rock and rollis awaiting its rebirth, and if you pay close enough attention to the birthing
sounds, you will agree. Rock and roll was conceived by rhythm and blues musicin the 40 s and 50

defiance. Today, our world has plenty to be angry about and of course, even more to be defiant

The, Gift Of God s Grace
Chapter 17 Assignment #3 (Ryan Cho) 17.3
Joseph II of Austria, Toleration Patent 1781, pogroms, Pietism, John Wesley, Methodism, gift of
God s grace
1)Joseph II of Austria. Joseph II of Austria was emperor of the Holy Roman Empire from 1765 to
1790, and served as ruler of Habsburg from 1780 to 1790. Joseph strongly emphasized an
enlightened version of absolutism, which gained him much needed support at the time. During his
tenure, Joseph sough truly radical changes in government through Enlightenment ideas. His
commitment to modernizing reforms, although, endangered him and allowed significant opposition
to gain power against him. For that reason, he never fully implemented his plans of absolutism, as
he died without an heir to the throne.
2)Toleration Patent 1781. The Toleration Patent of 1781, also known as the Edict of Toleration,
was an edict that was issued in 1781 by Joseph II of Austria. The edict allowed members of
minority faiths (not of Christianity, for example, Protestant religions) to perform religious practices
without being persecuted. This was very important for minority faiths it finally allowed them
religious freedom and separation from the Church, which led to the growth of Protestant populations

The Importance Of Homework For Young Children
The quality of a school is often judged by the amount of homework given to their students. Many
believe that the more homework assigned the smarter the student will be. However, some believe
that assigning loads of homework to children at a young age can cause poor results in the child s
academic and social and emotional growth. According to Scholastic, almost 50% of parents believe
that their children receive the right amount of homework, however, 80% of parents also say
homework is a main a source of stress and family dispute (Savvas, 2017). Over the years,
researchers and educators have been questioning the appropriateness of homework for young
children. Kindergarten is a time of change, growth, and opportunity. According to NAEYC,
developmentally appropriate teachers must balance kindergartners varying abilities and needs while
making sure that the curriculum fits appropriately between preschool and first grade (NAEYC).
Many kindergarten programs focus on school readiness in their classroom, which unfortunately
pressures their classes to resemble a primary classroom, rather than an appropriate kindergarten.
Teachers should offer inviting, well organized classrooms that foster children s thinking abilities
appropriate for their ages. According to Carol Copple and Sue Bredekamp, editors of
Developmentally Appropriate Practice in Early ChildhoodPrograms, there are four ways to promote
kindergarteners cognitive development. The first way is to ask the children

The Importance Of High School Student Athletes
Although some may believe that high school student athletes who do poorly in their academic
courses should still be able to participate in athletic programs, I do not agree. It allows students
who are capable of performing well in the classroom environment to feel as if it is not necessary to
do so, for most athletes, high schoolsports will be as far as they will go, and furthermore the idea
that sports are an extra curricular rather than a privilege has been lost.
The stereotype that all athletes, specifically football players and cheerleaders, are all dumb
jocks, is a very popular belief. However, this is of course not true for everyone, but some of these
athletes may use this as an excuse to under preform since they believe that less is expected of
them to begin with. In most cases, for any student, the amount of effort you put in will be what
you receive back. If teachers in school cut slack for athletes just so the star player is able to play
Friday nights, then students will never feel like they need to try because their grades are just
handed to them. Athletes are expected to give 110% on the field or court, so why wouldn t the
same be expected inside the classroom? While people could argue that the player is an important
aspect to the team, then it should be enforced for them to pass on their own with, for example, 70
s and above. With less expected of them, they will lose the opportunity of learning the value of
having a strong work ethic. Additionally, when their coaches double as their core class teachers,
rules that are set in place for no pass, no play are bound to be broken. Breaking these rules only
hurts the students in the long run.
For most of these athletes, high school sports will be the finish line. But, if all of their time is
spent focusing on sports rather than academics, when the time is up and reality sets in, they are
not going to be prepared. By coaches, teachers or even principals allowing these athletes to breeze
by without applying themselves or working hard, it is almost equivalent to setting them up for
failure. So much time will go by wasting away on something that is fun for four short years while
they could be setting out to achieve bigger and better things.

Medical Ethics Dax Cowart
Medical Ethics A body and a mind under duress reacts much differently than a body and mind in
normal circumstances. On a primal level, I think the mind s main purpose is to protect the body
from harm or to alleviate the pain once it is occurring. For that reason, a person who is in
excruciating pain or has just undergone a traumatic life change is not mentally capable of
making a rational decision about ending their life. Moreover, there is no rational decision one
can make about ending one s life. Dax Cowart was in excruciating pain from the severe burns on
his body. In addition to that he also had the combined effect of trying to mentally prepare for a life

He is married and, as he stated in the text, I m enjoying life now and I m glad to be alive .
(Munson p. 101). That statement, I m enjoying life now and I m glad to be alive , proves that
his mindset at the time of wanting to die was merely a temporary state of mind and not the way
he thinks all of the time. The depression that he felt that lead to his attempted suicides and his
pleas for doctors to end his life were things he had to work through by changing his mental view
and by changing the negative thoughts which lead to negative feelings. I think it is very
understandable that Dax would have those thoughts. I think most people who are undergoing
such a stressful, traumatic change in their life would have the same reaction. Plus the pain that
he was feeling would be enough to send anyone psychologically over the edge. And since Dax
was not in his right mind during this time, the farmer and the doctors and Dax s mother were all
justified in refusing to let Dax die. The third and final reason why I agree that Dax should not
have been able to refuse treatment and have other people assist in his death is because Dax
Cowart would have been treating himself and those he requested this of as merely a means.
According to Kant s philosophy, we must always treat people (including ourselves) as ends and
not as means only . (Munson p. 752). When we ignore another s free existence and impose our own

Italian Neorealism ( 1945-1953 )
Italian neorealism (1945 1953), through directors like Roberto Rossellini and Vittorio De Sica,
made its trademark on cinematic history not only in Italy, but also throughout the world. It was
films such as Rome Open City (Roma cittГ aperta, 1945), The Bicycle Thief (Ladri di biciclette,

the poor and working class of Italy took off as a new cinematic style after World War II.

In truth, it is a metaphor for a better tomorrow with the lingering theme of the hope and promise
of children. This theme further emphasized in the final scene of Rome Open City with the
children walking out of frame. With the city of Rome as the backdrop for this final scene, it
offered a sense of renewed hope for the future. Rossellini balances this theme of renewed hope
with trauma and tragedy, in particular the death of the main female character, Pina. The
audience is first introduced to Pina as both a bride to be and mother to be. The to be attached to
mother and bride suggests that there is a future. However, Rossellini brings this future to a
tragic end in the closing scenes of the film. As Pina pushes her way through the apartment

Hand Analysis Essay
Fingerprints are actually quite fascinating! They form on the volar pads of the embryo between
the 14 and 16 weeks of gestation, several months before birth and as we all know from CSI and
other TV programs, your fingerprints never change. Also if you look carefully at your
fingerprints, they resemble energy patterns. The whorl, loop, tented arch and arch are found
throughout nature. For example, The Milky Way resembles the whorl; waves of the ocean mirror
the loop etc. The second system decoded in Hand Analysis is your personality psychology
reflected in the shape, lines, fingers and mounds of the hand. They reveal your personality traits
for example your preferred emotional and communication style and how you in take in and process
information, your willpower, how you get things done etc. This is the system we are most familiar

Psychology has taught us that some traits are inborn, we have them at birth. However, I have
seen many example of how the shape, lines, fingers and mounds can and sometimes do change.
Why? Because there is more communication between your brain and your hands than any other
part of our body! So your hands can reflect the changes in your brain as you grow and develop.
Archetype of the WeaverNow let s explore how cloth is woven. On a loom there are the threads
that run vertically. These threads are the bones of the cloth. If there is a problem with the vertical
threads there is a problem with the entire piece. And to make it even more challenging these
vertical threads often the source of the difficulty are hidden, covered up by the horizontal threads.
For me the vertical threads represent what is predestined, things that cannot be changed. For
example your Soul Agenda as well as where and what family you are born into and other personality

The On Download Free Music
In 1998, the first websites to download free music appeared, thus making it possible for users to
share mp3 files between one another online. These free sites caused CD sales to plummet 72%
from 2000 to 2013. Spotify, founded in Sweden in 2006, came onto the online streaming music
scene with the mission to let people listen to music they want, when they want and where they
want. Spotify is different from the other sites like Napster and Limewire by giving customers
legal access to a library of over 30 million pieces of music. Daniel Ek and Martin Lorentzon, the
men behind Spotify, sought to find a way to give the public unlimited access to an exhaustive
catalogue of songs, stored on servers and available online. Therefore, Spotify encourages people
to abandon pirating by giving the public the ability for Internet users to get unrestricted access to
music online, without breaking the law. Spotify offers two types of memberships: free and paid
premium. The free users are able to listen on a phone, tablet, or computer with advertisements for a
few minutes every hour. While the premium user pays $10.00 per month to listen without
advertisements, unlimited skips, and the ability to listen offline. September 2011 Facebook and
Spotify integrated with one another. However, Facebook did not offer Spotify exclusive access to
its users. Regardless, Spotify was still able to gain about four million users after two months into its
partnership with Facebook. Now, signing up for Spotify

excellence in cardiology, neurology, orthopedics, transplants, and treatment for cancer (Henry,

the Metro Detroit area, and is also one of the most diverse health systems (Henry, 2016). An
important aspect of a marketingstrategy is finding the right price for products, and services. Price is

The price of the new medical device, BrightMatter, at Henry Ford Hospital is extremely
expensive. The cost of the device is over one million dollars, and does not include the cost of
software upgrades, or other technology improvements that need to be made in order for the device
to be successful. The expensive device is expected to have a positive return on investment, which
will more than cover the cost of the device, and other services. When formulating a pricing strategy
it is imperative that organizations establish a strategy that will sustain a profit. When considering
costs, organizations need to know what it can afford to pay, while taking into account the prices
the market allows, as well as allowing a profit. According to the article by Sorenson, Drummond
and Burns, when using the bundling strategy, CMS does not consider the cost relative to
alternative treatment options in its pricing (Sorenson, Drummond, and Burns, 2013). Instead, the
payments are based on estimates of average costs. This particular pricing strategy includes add on
payments based on the higher cost of the device. The high cost of the BrightMatter device will
allow Henry Ford Hospital to receive add on payments, that equivalent fifty percent of the additional
costs of using the new device in a case (Sorenson, Drummond, and Burns, 2013). Formulating a
pricing strategy for the device, BrightMatter, does not

Fall Of Rome Research Paper
Fall of Rome 467 A.D. The Western Roman Empire fell apart after a nearly 500 year run as the
world s greatest power. The fall can be blamed on hundreds of different elements ranging from
military failures and crippling taxation to natural calamities and even climate changes. The most
probable explanation for Western Rome s decline and decay is a chain of military losses
sustained by external forces. After the Battle of Adrianople in 378 A.D., the shocked Romans
discussed peace with the Goths. All the same, the truce would fall in 410 when the Goth King
Alaric moved west and sacked Rome. Clovis adopts Roman Christianity 496 The Frankish

Essay on Matthew s Christology
Matthew s Christology
Matthew s Christology is one that emphasises to a Jewish audience the Jewishness of Jesus. It will
be the purpose of this paper to argue that the raison d etre of Matthew s Christology is to portray
Jesus as entirely compatible if not with the Judaism of his day then with ancient Judaic tradition,
namely the Old Testament. Whilst there are numerous titles given to Jesus that are exclusive
/predominant within the Matthean account, such as that of Son of God, it is the writer s assertion
that these merely complement Matthew s central theses; this being the portrayal of Jesus as
Messiah and so, as such, will not be investigated except where they promote this conclusion. This

3:17; Isaiah 42:1). Consequently, we see in Matthew s depiction of Jesus a fundamental tenet of
Israel s theological history personified.
Jesus is, as the Messianic Servant, shown to be the fulfilment of further Isaianic prophecy, that of
the suffering Servant. Throughout Matthew s gospel there are six direct allusions to Isaiah 53
indicating a definite link and identification by Matthew with this Israelite and Messianic hope.
Further, Farmer suggests that direct allusions notwithstanding in 20:20 28 and especially 26:26 30
Isaiah 53 s redemptive hope is supposed to be fulfilled through Jesus description of the outcome of
his crucifixion.
Isaianic prophecy aside it is also clear that Matthew above the other three evangelists presents
Jesus as the fulfilment of the law, a new Moses. The structure of the book into five sections is
intended to help the Jewish readers identify Jesus as an antecedent of Moses. Jesus is according
to some scholars a type of Moses bringing about a new exodus and a new Israel. More explicitly
however, Matthew portrays Jesus as the only man to have fulfilled the law in its entirety as well
as the messianic fulfilment of Old Testament prophecy through the many formula quotations (3:15;
5:17 48;12:17 21; 13:35; 21:5, 16, 42; 22:44; 23:39; 26:31; 27:9, 35, 46).

Persuasive Language In Narrative Of The Life Of Frederick...
In the book Narrative of the Life of Frederick Douglass written by himself, Douglass writes about
his experiences as a slave in the 1800 s. In the beginning of the book, he explains that he does
not know his age because most slaves are not allowed to know their age. Douglass recalls the
memory of his aunt getting tied and whipped until she was covered in blood at a very young age.
He reveals to us that slaves only get extremely limited allowances throughout a year. Children
barely get any clothing to wear, while all of them just get barely enough food to survive, He also
says that slaves have to lie half the time to avoid getting whipped and beaten.
This book gives us a real insight on how bad slavery was, how Douglass coped with it, and
eventually how he escapes from it later in the book. Douglass uses persuasive language to show
the true colors of slavery, and he uses his own experiences of being a slave himself to his
advantage by giving us accounts of his life as a slave. In this essay, I want to focus on the truth,
why slaves have to lie their way out of certain situations, and go more in depth of how Douglass
language is highly persuasive to the abolitionists of that time.
I want to focus on one specific part in this essay, a part that is very descriptive, persuasive, and
analyze deep into the text. The slave in this quote has no idea that the person they are talking to is
their actual master. It states:
The colonel, after ascertaining whom the slave belonged to,

Adverse Possession Is A Method
Adverse possession is a method by which a trespasser gains legal title to a property by occupying it
for some time period. This kind of ownership may not be necessarily intentional, it can occur as a
mistake where a deed may be faulty. Both personal and real property can be acquired by adverse
possession. However, ownershipof propertyfor public use for instance school property or a highway
cannot be lost through adverse possession.
The history of adverse possession can be traced back to the 12th century. During this time, a
squatter could prove his right to ownership of property by the act of possession. Gradually, the
law has been seen to favour the squatters as opposed to the land owners. The law required that the
squatter had proof that he had dispossessed the property exclusively for 60 years in order to bar a
landlord s actions. There were further developments in the Statute of Limitations restricting other
rights of the landlord in 1639. A landlord s title would expire after a squatter had dispossessed a
property for 20 years exclusively. Further amendments reduced the required time period from 20 to
12 years of exclusive dispossession.
The earliest codification in English law of adverse possession was the Statute of Westminster in
1275 which limited actions towards recovery of land by barring the real owners from establishing
claims that were dated. Land records in early England were poor and illiteracy was high, therefore,
possession was the best evidence of

A Journey Summary
A Journey is a short story written by Edith Wharton in 1899 as part of her collection of short
stories called The Greater Inclination. This short story is about a wife and husband traveling from
Colorado to New York. They travel in turmoil, due to the husband being very sick. He consequently
dies, leaving the wifeto reach New York on her own, while at the same time, covering up the death
of her husbandso she does not get booted off the train. While on the train, the wife has several
encounters with the porter and passengers, in which she begins to falter and hesitate when talking
to them. In A Journey, Edith Wharton s use of tone and imagery revolving around the wife, conveys
the negative impact the death of a husband has on a womanto interact with others in a calm manner.
One person the wife struggles to interact with in a calm manner is the porter because through the
tone and imagery revolving around the wife when talking to the porter, it shows how the porter
s presence causes her to struggle defending herself. The first contact between the wife and porter
occurs when the porter begins checking up on the passengers to see if they needed any help. He
ends up startling her. The wife then looks at the porter helplessly, while his smile almost corrupts
her speech. The porter starts by saying, Are you very tired? followed by the wife replying, No, not
very. The porter then says, We ll be there soon now. The wife responds with Yes, very soon.

Oppression Of Women In Medea By Euripides
In Medea, Euripides challenges the taboo of writing and speaking up for the women of ancient
Greece which resulted in the unpopularity of Euripides work. He wrote about a female character
who is socially mistreated and that performs barbaric actions that are usually seen from victims of
unfair abuse. Medeais the female character who can be perceived to have gone mad due to extreme
suffering later resulting in a surprising element of Greek tragedy that turned heads during this time
period. Euripidescreates a scene of revenge that shocks the audience to reveal the oppression of

He was gave the idea that women were under the oppression of men during that time period even
if those were not his intentions. Medea s actions against Creon and Jason (men of greater status
in this particular society) hint at the idea that Euripides was writing to bring awareness to the
fact that women are beginning to express themselves in extreme ways in a society that
suppresses the voice of women. His unique use of a female character standing up against a male
in the patriarchal society proved to be very effective in bringing these ideas to light. Euripides
provided the first touch toward the earliest ideals of feminism and what makes it most impactful
was the fact that he was a male himself. His decision in making Medea about a woman and

that society were not ready for

Essay on The History of Conflict in Ireland
The History of Conflict in Ireland
An American audience may find it difficult to comprehend the sense of history which is in the
Irish conflict. It goes back to the 1920s when the island was partitioned, and Catholics in Northern
Ireland believed that they were on the wrong side of that border, and believed that they had been
done out of their political heritage.
But Protestants have a sense of history which goes back to at least the seventeenth century, where
from the time of the plantation of Ulster at the beginning of the 1600s, they have had to look to
their own resources to ensure that they remained in control in the north of Ireland because they d

By the 1920s, the British political establishment decided it was time to get out of Ireland, militarily,
politically, psychologically, but she could not get out of what became known as Northern Ireland
because the Protestant majority there were convinced that they were British and they represented
the majority.
Partition
So, the best deal that Britain could do in 1920 was to partition the island of Ireland, and make the
northeast of Ireland into this new entity called Northern Ireland, and leave the rest of the country as
a separate entity, which was still part of British jurisdiction but had a great deal more autonomy.
Britain had no real solution other than partition. Britain, I think, would have liked to have
withdrawn from Ireland, because it had been such a cost, such a drain on its international
reputation. But Britain felt it owed allegiance to its kith and kin in the north of Ireland, the
Protestant majority, who considered themselves to be British. And this Protestant majority said they
would fight to maintain the right to be British. The best solution was a qualified partition, because
built into the Government of Ireland Act was the prospect that at some future date, the island could
be united again.
So psychologically,

  • 2. The Curse Of The Poisened Pretzel Analysis In the story, The curse of the poisened pretzel, the author develops his point of views in many ways. He does this without actually stating that Skidmore is guilty. There are many rumors about why they think he killed his brother and this is why. One of the most promising rumors is the fact that skiddmore was extremely jelous of his older brother. The majority of the reasoning behind this is the fact that he was allergic to bubble gum and he saw his older brother flaunting it as an insult. The fame and riches it brought made the ordeal even worse. Another reason that people think Skidmore killed his brother was because he wasnt as liked by everyone. The first Redbox kiosk was opened by McDonald s in 2002. Redbox was later purchased by Coinstar, Inc., and over the years, Redbox has rented over one billion movies and has grown to more than 27,000 locations in restaurants, grocery stores, pharmacies and convenience stores nationwide. Redbox proves to be a very unique way to rent DVD s and by the nature of Redbox s rental process, most businesses would benefit from the increased traffic generated by having a kiosk machine at their location. This type of relationship proves to be a win win situation for both Redbox and the businesses which ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Not only does Redbox provide a unique service, they provide it at a low cost at convenient locations. Most movie rental stores charge $4 5 to rent a new release for approximately 3 days, whereas Redbox provides a similar service for $1.29 per night. This is extremely cheap considering most consumers watch their movie rental the same day they rent it. Furthermore, Redbox gets this low cost movie rental product to the consumer through a channel of distribution historically associated with snack foods and soda. By providing movie rentals through vending machines called kiosks located at shopping locations where consumers already go to shop, they have eliminated much of the costs associated with conventional movie rental stores and the need for consumers to make an additional stop just to rent a movie. Since Redbox s inception, it has experienced enormous growth and profit, but they will need to evolve in order to get ahead of the curve. Although Redbox appears to have established themselves as a formidable competitor to Netflix and Blockbuster, they are facing a gruesome reality. The take home movie rental business is rapidly losing ground to online streaming video directly to consumers homes via the internet. Netflix has already been providing this service for quite some time and both Redbox and Blockbuster are feeling the pressure. Blockbuster, Inc. has already declared ... • 5. Comparing Lang s Nineteen Eighty-Four And Metropolis Texts often reflect upon problems faced by a society, it the time of the texts creation. Nineteen Eighty Four by George Orwell and Metropolis by Fritz Lang take the social context of their time to deliver a warning to society. Through their deliverance of their messages, they explore the impact of oppression and rebellion and how that has an impact on society, as well as, introspectively. The puppet in Image 1 is being oppressed by the hand, this is shown through the manipulation of colours and characters. Isolation and oppression are emphasised by contrasting the colour between the hand, the puppet and the red string. The hand is perceived with an ominous aura due to its grey colour but also how it protrudes from the darkness in an unnatural position. Since the hand appears from the darkness it seems untrustworthy and malicious, furthermore, the unnatural position that it rests in gives it a controlling aura. Alternatively, the puppet is seen as innocent. A wooden puppet cannot think for itself, thus, the hand is obviously controlling it. The macabre situation is accented by the red strings which link the puppet and the hand. Red is... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Allusion creates a means for Lang to convey the message without enraging German society in 1927. It has also contributed to the success of the movie because the symbolism is still recognisable and relevant. Joh Fredersen represents God, he is concerned about what the workers will do if they do not fear him. However, his son, Freder, is what joins together Joh and the Workers. Thus, Freder is a Christ like figure. The workers are representative of the people on Earth who are working to try and get to heaven. The rebellion is caused by machine Maria who is the epitome of sin which then leads to the flooding of the workers city, which is much like the great flood. Canada s Role In Ww2 In the final two years of the Second World War, Canadian operations was astonishing from the simple growth and expansion of the RCN, working alongside Britain to engage in and manage convoy protection. Canada s naval contribution was essential over U Boat attacks on shipping, and because of such undertakings, Canadian naval officers conducted an ultimately successful campaign to have Canadas efforts in the Battle of the Atlantic acknowledged by the creation of an independent Canadian command in the northwest Atlantic. In December 1942, Canada successfully won an administrative battle to gain responsibility for the distribution of all intelligence concerning convoys under Canadian control, and because of complex additions to the Enigma machines... Moving forward, it is also highly unlikely that Britain would have survived after the Battle of Britain had the Royal Canadian Navy not been assisting merchant convoys crossing the Atlantic from the US and Canada. The air effort presented similar trends as the RCN in May 1945, there were 784 aircraft in Coastal command, with 511 used against submarines and the rest for enemy attacks. Approximately 153,000 flight personnel were trained out of a total of 239,761 that were engaged in British and Commonwealth flying operations, a pivotal choice in gaining air superiority victory over the sky would never have happened so quickly without Canada s involvement. The RCAF famously worked with the RCN throughout the Battle of Britain, the attempt by the German war machine to destroy Britain s Royal Air Force (RAF) and prepare for invasion after already conquering most of Europe, including France, which was one of Canada s first campaigns during the first nine months or so of war. Founded in 1924, the RCAF was the smallest of Canada s services when war broke out in 1939. Attempts to expand and improve the force up until 1935 were futile, only growing from 569 to 1,031 personnel, just enough for the needs of war. The Second World War undoubtedly established an aircraft industry and the progression of civil aviation formed a reserve of skilled pilots from a developed training scheme established in Canada. The inauguration of the British Commonwealth Air Training Plan (BCATP) took place, a strategy conceived by Prime Minister King to train pilots and flight personnel in Canada, so that the Royal Canadian Air Force (RCAF) would remain a safe distance away from the fighting in Europe and North Africa. Gambling Legalization Gerika Arthur Professor McPhee English 300 01 March 14, 2011 Gambling legalization for a promising future Gambling is the act of playing for stakes in the hope of winning (including the payment of a price for a chance to win a prize). (Oxford dictionary) Many have their own opinions about gambling and at this time gambling is not legally practiced here in The Bahamas. Such a move would bring an end to an illicit industry that makes tens of millions of dollars a year and which employs hundreds; but which contributes little to the general good of the Bahamian people. Therefore all of the foreigners that are here now using our casinos and going back with everything, would have to leave that twenty five percent tax fee for the government. Legalizing gambling would also lead to a decrease in the unemployment rate. In an article entitled Gambling Entertainment , it states that The large percentage of employment provided by the Gambling industry, including the land based casinos as well as the Online casinos, puts gambling industry on the top of society chart straight away. Having gambling legalized would automatically mean that employment will increase. At present Gambling is in the underground economy mark when it comes to calculating the unemployment rate. Since it s illegal workers are considered to be employed, however legally they re counted as unemployed when it comes to the unemployment rate. In an article written by Olivia Saunders, Saunders illustrated the unemployment rate in a diagram that showed an unemployment rate of 7.8 percent. Out of this 7.8 percent count are the people that are already presently working for number houses, if we legalize gambling that rate would automatically decrease. Many are lead to believe that legalizing gambling won t decrease the unemployment rate, because there are already a substantial amount of lottery houses opened already and there are still many unemployed, it s impossible for this to help our unemployed, and even if it does, it won t completely take care ... • 9. Do Not Go Gentle Into That Good Night by Dylan Thomas The purpose of this essay is to analyze one of the more popular and well known poems written by Welsh poet Dylan Thomas, Do Not Go Gentle Into That Good Night. The poem relates to the shortness of life and the inevitability of death that should not be easily accepted, which was a common theme for Dylan Thomas. This is ironic given the poet s early death from a drunken binge in New York City while he was visiting the United States as part of a tour in which he recited his poems to adoring fans. Thomas powerful message is contained in the form of a villanelle. The villanelle is a highly structured poem which makes use of a great deal of repetition in its standard nineteen lines. Loss of one s faculties can make life seem unbearable but Thomas wants his father to focus on life s positive aspects and not dwell on the negativity. In the sixth and final stanza, Thomas speaks to his father directly, having finished his four examples of men who fight death ( And you, my father, there on that sad height ). Thomas implores his father on the precipice of death to speak ill or good, as long as it is done with passion ( Curse, bless me know with your fierce tears, I pray ). The poet realizes passion may stave off death. He also hopes his father might identify with the four types of men cited in the poem as Thomas apparently viewed his father as an intelligent and decent, but very ill, free spirit. Of course, Thomas message isn t meant only for his father. It is normal to have regrets late in life. It is not uncommon for people to give up hope and look upon death as a welcome prospect. Yet Thomas realizes that life is better than death, which is the ultimate destroyer of hope in this life. The poet also reminds us to seize the day and make the most of whatever time we have. The issue Thomas addresses in his poem can be a very difficult one which all of us may face at some point. Choosing life over death can be especially difficult for the terminally ill. By 1923, Germanywas struggling to pay reparations to France, as there economy was already struggling with a lack of able workers, which lead to the French invasion of the Ruhr; this was especially effective as the Ruhr and the Saar coalfields were major contributors to the German effort to rebuild their economy and the German military was hugely limited by the treaty. In it, she uses four thousand metres of rope hand woven from human hair. Hanging entangled within this black, knotted mass are twenty steel car bumpers. It is a dig at a common superstition held by motorists in India. Motorists there often ties woven hair to car bumpers as a talisman for their safety. In fact, it would not be a surprise if these motorists actually place more belief in this talisman than the need for regular servicing to their vehicles. Society has preconceived judgments on what role each gender should play and when it is ok to go against societal norms. Although as the years continue to progress and societal norms begin to change, one thing that has remained the same is the gender rolestigma. Genderroles have been instilled within us even before we exit our mother s womb, from the color the newborns room is painted in down to the color clothes they wear. Plenty of research has been conducted on gender roles in Western culture. Some of the components researchers looked for were, what gender roles are, how they affect society and the individual along with the culture and history behind where it began (Cobb, R. A., Walsh, C. E., Priest, J. B. (2009). While researching gender roles and different cultures I could not help but notice there were little to no research on gender roles within the Caribbean culture. This gap of literature helped me pose the question why is there plenty of research on gender roles in Western culture, but a scarce amount of research on gender roles in the Caribbean culture? Along with, how will we be able to eliminate or shift societal norms of what gender roles should be? It is important to touch on what gender roles are like in the Caribbean culture because then we can compare and contrasts how gender roles are displayed within various cultures and ultimately come up with a solution or suggestions on how to ... Nuclear fusion is another way to release nuclear energy. Two nuclei of light elements combine in one grave. Such processes occur on the Sun. Many atomic nuclei are unstable. Over time, some of these nuclei spontaneously convert into other nuclei, releasing energy. This phenomenon is called a radioactive decay. Nuclear energy is produced in nuclear power plants, used in nuclear powered icebreakers and nuclear submarines. The United States is running a program for developing nuclear engine for spacecraft. Nuclear energetics is an energy sector, which is engaged in the production of electricity and heat by converting nuclear energy. Because Japan has the comparative advantage in producing computers in that example, free trade would maximize both country s production by having Japan specialize in producing computers and Canada specialize in producing cars. Then, both countries could trade the products they specialize in for the other, at a fair rate to be determined separately. Without free trade, each country had a bigger limit on what good they could produce. With trade, both countries still have a limit to what the countries can produce, but since they are trading what they are best at producing, they are maximizing the total numbers of goods in the country. The documentary, Man on Wire, gives us an insight of what his life was like leading up to the remarkable date, but does not give us the answer as to why a man with a normal conscience would do such a thing. The phenomenal research conducted by Poldrack further elaborates and delivers a more explicit explanation of the motive that thrives Petit towards this treacherous lifestyle. The Reform Act And The Municipal Act The legislation passed in 1832, known as the Great Reform Act , was viewed as a breakthrough in terms of reforming parliament due to it being the first of its kind. The legislation brought newly enfranchised towns and cities into the fold, removed rotten boroughs and created a consistency in voting all of which had been a problem for parliament previously. However many have argued to the length that this legislation extended to and have countered that the legislation passed following 1832 was merely a slow progression towards full reform in the 20th century. These acts still left working men without a vote and franchise was based on property rather than tax paying. This would suggest to why there was so much disappointment from these acts as a result, as they simply did not go far enough to reach the expectations that came with them. This essay will demonstrate why there was such a sense of anticlimax with the legislation itself, as well as expanding upon the acts that were passed after 1832 such as the second Great Reform Act and the Municipal act. All of which brought further reform and change that was originally expected with the Great Reform Act in 1832. The great sense of disappointment stemmed from the idea that the Great Reform Act did not address the issues that were problematic in this period to the full extent they should have. The, Gift Of God s Grace Chapter 17 Assignment #3 (Ryan Cho) 17.3 Joseph II of Austria, Toleration Patent 1781, pogroms, Pietism, John Wesley, Methodism, gift of God s grace 1)Joseph II of Austria. Joseph II of Austria was emperor of the Holy Roman Empire from 1765 to 1790, and served as ruler of Habsburg from 1780 to 1790. Joseph strongly emphasized an enlightened version of absolutism, which gained him much needed support at the time. During his tenure, Joseph sough truly radical changes in government through Enlightenment ideas. His commitment to modernizing reforms, although, endangered him and allowed significant opposition to gain power against him. For that reason, he never fully implemented his plans of absolutism, as he died without an heir to the throne. 2)Toleration Patent 1781. The Toleration Patent of 1781, also known as the Edict of Toleration, was an edict that was issued in 1781 by Joseph II of Austria. The edict allowed members of minority faiths (not of Christianity, for example, Protestant religions) to perform religious practices without being persecuted. This was very important for minority faiths it finally allowed them religious freedom and separation from the Church, which led to the growth of Protestant populations 3)Pogroms. • 35. The Importance Of Homework For Young Children The quality of a school is often judged by the amount of homework given to their students. Many believe that the more homework assigned the smarter the student will be. However, some believe that assigning loads of homework to children at a young age can cause poor results in the child s academic and social and emotional growth. According to Scholastic, almost 50% of parents believe that their children receive the right amount of homework, however, 80% of parents also say homework is a main a source of stress and family dispute (Savvas, 2017). Over the years, researchers and educators have been questioning the appropriateness of homework for young children. Kindergarten is a time of change, growth, and opportunity. According to NAEYC, developmentally appropriate teachers must balance kindergartners varying abilities and needs while making sure that the curriculum fits appropriately between preschool and first grade (NAEYC). Many kindergarten programs focus on school readiness in their classroom, which unfortunately pressures their classes to resemble a primary classroom, rather than an appropriate kindergarten. Teachers should offer inviting, well organized classrooms that foster children s thinking abilities appropriate for their ages. According to Carol Copple and Sue Bredekamp, editors of Developmentally Appropriate Practice in Early ChildhoodPrograms, there are four ways to promote kindergarteners cognitive development. The first way is to ask the children ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 36. The Importance Of High School Student Athletes Although some may believe that high school student athletes who do poorly in their academic courses should still be able to participate in athletic programs, I do not agree. It allows students who are capable of performing well in the classroom environment to feel as if it is not necessary to do so, for most athletes, high schoolsports will be as far as they will go, and furthermore the idea that sports are an extra curricular rather than a privilege has been lost. The stereotype that all athletes, specifically football players and cheerleaders, are all dumb jocks, is a very popular belief. However, this is of course not true for everyone, but some of these athletes may use this as an excuse to under preform since they believe that less is expected of them to begin with. In most cases, for any student, the amount of effort you put in will be what you receive back. If teachers in school cut slack for athletes just so the star player is able to play Friday nights, then students will never feel like they need to try because their grades are just handed to them. Athletes are expected to give 110% on the field or court, so why wouldn t the same be expected inside the classroom? While people could argue that the player is an important aspect to the team, then it should be enforced for them to pass on their own with, for example, 70 s and above. With less expected of them, they will lose the opportunity of learning the value of having a strong work ethic. Additionally, when their coaches double as their core class teachers, rules that are set in place for no pass, no play are bound to be broken. Breaking these rules only hurts the students in the long run. For most of these athletes, high school sports will be the finish line. But, if all of their time is spent focusing on sports rather than academics, when the time is up and reality sets in, they are not going to be prepared. By coaches, teachers or even principals allowing these athletes to breeze by without applying themselves or working hard, it is almost equivalent to setting them up for failure. So much time will go by wasting away on something that is fun for four short years while they could be setting out to achieve bigger and better things. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 37. Medical Ethics Dax Cowart Medical Ethics A body and a mind under duress reacts much differently than a body and mind in normal circumstances. On a primal level, I think the mind s main purpose is to protect the body from harm or to alleviate the pain once it is occurring. For that reason, a person who is in excruciating pain or has just undergone a traumatic life change is not mentally capable of making a rational decision about ending their life. Moreover, there is no rational decision one can make about ending one s life. Dax Cowart was in excruciating pain from the severe burns on his body. In addition to that he also had the combined effect of trying to mentally prepare for a life as a disfigured human being. Due to his pain he was not able to fully... That statement, I m enjoying life now and I m glad to be alive , proves that his mindset at the time of wanting to die was merely a temporary state of mind and not the way he thinks all of the time. The depression that he felt that lead to his attempted suicides and his pleas for doctors to end his life were things he had to work through by changing his mental view and by changing the negative thoughts which lead to negative feelings. I think it is very understandable that Dax would have those thoughts. I think most people who are undergoing such a stressful, traumatic change in their life would have the same reaction. Plus the pain that he was feeling would be enough to send anyone psychologically over the edge. And since Dax was not in his right mind during this time, the farmer and the doctors and Dax s mother were all justified in refusing to let Dax die. The third and final reason why I agree that Dax should not have been able to refuse treatment and have other people assist in his death is because Dax Cowart would have been treating himself and those he requested this of as merely a means. According to Kant s philosophy, we must always treat people (including ourselves) as ends and not as means only . (Munson p. 752). When we ignore another s free existence and impose our own ... It was films such as Rome Open City (Roma cittГ aperta, 1945), The Bicycle Thief (Ladri di biciclette, 1948), and Umberto D., (1952) whose style of depicting the harsh economic and social realities of the poor and working class of Italy took off as a new cinematic style after World War II. In truth, it is a metaphor for a better tomorrow with the lingering theme of the hope and promise of children. This theme further emphasized in the final scene of Rome Open City with the children walking out of frame. With the city of Rome as the backdrop for this final scene, it offered a sense of renewed hope for the future. Rossellini balances this theme of renewed hope with trauma and tragedy, in particular the death of the main female character, Pina. The audience is first introduced to Pina as both a bride to be and mother to be. The to be attached to mother and bride suggests that there is a future. However, Rossellini brings this future to a tragic end in the closing scenes of the film. As Pina pushes her way through the apartment complex courtyard, through a barricade of Nazi soldiers to run after her fiance Francesco who has been captured. As she is running through the streets, she is tragically shot down and dies in the middle of the street. Francesco manages to escape Nazi custody, making it a senseless and pointless death. Not only is this the tragic death of an Italian woman, but also a pregnant one. It has been said that Rossellini s style is a way of seeing. Consequently, we see in Matthew s depiction of Jesus a fundamental tenet of Israel s theological history personified. Throughout Matthew s gospel there are six direct allusions to Isaiah 53 indicating a definite link and identification by Matthew with this Israelite and Messianic hope. Further, Farmer suggests that direct allusions notwithstanding in 20:20 28 and especially 26:26 30 Isaiah 53 s redemptive hope is supposed to be fulfilled through Jesus description of the outcome of his crucifixion. Isaianic prophecy aside it is also clear that Matthew above the other three evangelists presents Jesus as the fulfilment of the law, a new Moses. In the book Narrative of the Life of Frederick Douglass written by himself, Douglass writes about his experiences as a slave in the 1800 s. In the beginning of the book, he explains that he does not know his age because most slaves are not allowed to know their age. Douglass recalls the memory of his aunt getting tied and whipped until she was covered in blood at a very young age. He reveals to us that slaves only get extremely limited allowances throughout a year. Children barely get any clothing to wear, while all of them just get barely enough food to survive, He also says that slaves have to lie half the time to avoid getting whipped and beaten. This book gives us a real insight on how bad slavery was, how Douglass coped with it, and eventually how he escapes from it later in the book. Douglass uses persuasive language to show the true colors of slavery, and he uses his own experiences of being a slave himself to his advantage by giving us accounts of his life as a slave. In this essay, I want to focus on the truth, why slaves have to lie their way out of certain situations, and go more in depth of how Douglass language is highly persuasive to the abolitionists of that time. • 50. Adverse Possession Is A Method Adverse possession is a method by which a trespasser gains legal title to a property by occupying it for some time period. This kind of ownership may not be necessarily intentional, it can occur as a mistake where a deed may be faulty. Both personal and real property can be acquired by adverse possession. However, ownershipof propertyfor public use for instance school property or a highway cannot be lost through adverse possession. The history of adverse possession can be traced back to the 12th century. During this time, a squatter could prove his right to ownership of property by the act of possession. Gradually, the law has been seen to favour the squatters as opposed to the land owners. The law required that the squatter had proof that he had dispossessed the property exclusively for 60 years in order to bar a landlord s actions. There were further developments in the Statute of Limitations restricting other rights of the landlord in 1639. A landlord s title would expire after a squatter had dispossessed a property for 20 years exclusively. Further amendments reduced the required time period from 20 to 12 years of exclusive dispossession. The earliest codification in English law of adverse possession was the Statute of Westminster in 1275 which limited actions towards recovery of land by barring the real owners from establishing claims that were dated. Land records in early England were poor and illiteracy was high, therefore, possession was the best evidence of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

One person the wife struggles to interact with in a calm manner is the porter because through the tone and imagery revolving around the wife when talking to the porter, it shows how the porter s presence causes her to struggle defending herself. The first contact between the wife and porter occurs when the porter begins checking up on the passengers to see if they needed any help. He ends up startling her. The wife then looks at the porter helplessly, while his smile almost corrupts her speech. The porter starts by saying, Are you very tired? followed by the wife replying, No, not very. The porter then says, We ll be there soon now. The wife responds with Yes, very soon. (Wharton 418). ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

But Britain felt it owed allegiance to its kith and kin in the north of Ireland, the Protestant majority, who considered themselves to be British. And this Protestant majority said they would fight to maintain the right to be British. The best solution was a qualified partition, because built into the Government of Ireland Act was the prospect that at some future date, the island could be united again. So psychologically, ...
