Gummy Bear Hypothesis For Osmosis
Introduction:
Osmosis is a natural occurrence constantly happening within the cells of all living things. For
osmosis to occur, water molecules must move across a semipermeable membrane from an area of
low concentration to an are of high concentration. In order to understand osmosis, people must
understand the different types of concentrations that can be present within solution. One of them is
an Isotonic solution where the concentration of dissolved particles is equal to that of a cell s.
Another is a hypertonic solution where there is a higher concentration of dissolved particles then
inside the cell. And lastly there is a hypotonic solution where there are less dissolved particles
than inside the cell. As dissolved particles move to a region of lower concentration, water moves
the opposite direction as a result of there being less water in the highly concentrated region. In this
experiment, gummy bears were placed in salt water, sugar water, and tap water to find the measure
of osmosis between the solution and gummy bear.
Hypothesis:
If the gummy bear is added to the solution, then it will lose its coloring and expand.
Materials:
The materials used during the experiment included three plastic cups, three gummy bears, masking
tape, marker, balance, calculator, tray, one plastic spoon, a measurement tray, and a ruler. The
three plastic cups were used to hold the tap water, salt water, and sugar water. The masking tape
and marker were used to label each cup with the

History Of Intermodal Containers And The World Trade Commerce
History of Intermodal Containers For a very long time people have been trading goods with
each other within their city, out of their city, and even across borders and oceans. As technology
has advanced, so has different modes of transportation to make it easier for people to get their
products that they need while shipping out products to other people. The world that we live in
is a great big place and in order for us humans to survive and grow we need ways to reach out to
other people and communicate the things that we need to do that. What I m going to be talking
about is the history of intermodal containers and how they play a big role in the world trade
commerce. It all started with a man that goes by Malcolm McLean who was born in 1913 in
Maxton, North Carolina. Malcolm started out by pumping gas at a local gas station to where he
saved up enough money to buy him a truck. From there he created McLean Trucking company,
involving his own family members and as Malcolm as one of the drivers they hauled empty
tobacco barrels as their first cargo. Since his only pick up truck in 1934 to 1770 trucks and 32
terminals in 1956, McLean Trucking became the second largest trucking company in the United
States, and the first trucking company to appear on the stock exchange. Though all of his success
early on, Malcolm sold his interest in his company and wanted to try something different. The idea
of transporting trucks on ships during World War II was around but Malcolm

Devil In Young Goodman Brown
Young Goodman Brown is a religious man that oddly takes a chance for the worst. Goodman
Brown leaves his home at the beginning of the story to go exploring into a forest where he is
changed by what is happening in the forest. When Goodman Brown leaves at night is significant
because at night evil things can happened. The difference between him leaving at night and day is
that he knows he shouldn t be doing what he is doing, because at night more things are unseen.
GoodmanBrown was pulled in the forest by this devil figure, also he knows he shouldn t be
meeting with devils, because that shows he is leaving his faith and his wife. Goodman Brown was
late to the meeting with the devil, and the devil was wondering why he was late so he asked him.

Essay on The Hacker Community
Hackers are typically defined as individuals that gain unauthorized access to another person s
computer. Although that definition is rather specific it can be broadened to include other illegal
activities such as phishing , which can be done on its own and may be separate from hacking. The
hacker community is what is contended to be an imagined community meaning they occupy no
singular geographic location, like members of a community like Rosedale, nor have they have any
set guidelines for becoming a computer hacker. The hackercommunity is highly fluid, with
members leaving and others taking their places all the time. Most hackers tend to either form close
connections with just a few other community members or formalize groups and... Show more

Hackers are given more of a free pass than other deviant communities are from society because of
the high level anonymity in the community, their motivations are claimed to be honourable, and the
high amount permeability of computer culture into the mainstream normalizes their behaviour.
Anonymity and Secrecy
Anonymity is a defining characteristic of the internet, but, the understanding of the word is
different for the hacker community than it is for the general public, as it if often closely tied to
the notion of secrecy. Even though these two words are so closely related they remain distinct
from one another. For example, one can choose never to identify themselves, instead opting to
remain totally anonymous in the truest sense of the word. Fox news did a report on such a
group actually named Anonymous where none of the hackers use screen handles, instead
loosely organizing themselves on a message board. However it would seem that the majority of
hackers choose to identify themselves via a handle. The word handle basically refers to what
most would think of as a screen name or user name which allows the hacker to be easily
indentified by members of the community. Furthermore, the use of a handle, or screen name,
allows that hacker to take credit for their deeds online while keeping their real life separate. A
disadvantage to using screen names, as pointed out in Jordan and Taylor s article, is that a single
individual may have

AMPLE: An adaptive traffic engineering system based on virtual routing topologies
Manikanthreddy Charabuddi project report submitted in partial fulfillment of the requirement for
the degree in master of sciences

Texas A M University Kingsville EECSDept
MSC192, Kingsville, Texas 78363
Contemporary network management systems mainly deal with avoiding network congestion and
frequent service disruptions by effectively handling the traffic dynamics. IP base environments still
don t have efficient system to utilize all the resources and efficient solution for dynamic traffic and
network conditions. So in this article we introduce a efficient traffic engineering and managing
mechanism called AMPLE. This system mainly consists of two components: Link Weight
Optimization (OLWO) and Adaptive Traffic Control (ATC). Link Weight Optimization (OLWO)
component generates maximum IGP path diversity using physical network topology as a input.
OLWO setting of link weights are optimized for maximum path diversity. The next component ATC
comes into the picture based on these diverse paths. ATC can efficiently manage the splitting ratios
across individual routing topologies. ATC does this by monitoring the network dynamics in a short
interval of time. We evaluated the proposed system using real network topologies and found that
the system can effectively handle the unprepared traffic dynamics and it can be used to achieve

The Falsity Of Robert Nozick s Experience Machine
In his 1974 book Anarchy, State and Utopia, philosopher Robert Nozick offers the experience
machine as a thought experiment designed to argue the falsity of prudential hedonism. Nozick asks
us to imagine an experience machine whose sole purpose is to provide individuals with any
desirable or pleasurable experiences they want. The problem arises when we must ask ourselves if
we would enter the machine. Although Robert Nozick s experience machine presents us with a
realistic virtual reality, it is missing something other than experiences, providing us with no reason
to plug into the machine.
The experience machine thought experiment is designed to give you any experience you desire.

Hedonism states that pleasure is the good, meaning that any unit of life that is not pleasurable
does nothing directly to increase one s well being. The experience machine works under the
assumption that if a reasonable and informed subject, i, would choose S over S , then S would
contribute more to i s wellbeing than S (Baber 133). If all that mattered to us was pleasure then
we would want to plug into the machine. But there is something other than pleasure that has
intrinsic value, which can be used to increase our well being. Consequently, we do not want to
plug in. Most individuals, as it turns out, favour hedonically inferior states of doing and being
than life in the machine, so we are supposed to conclude that hedonism is false. According to
Nozick, three things matter to us, in addition to one s experiences and what one is like, that he
believes are missing from a life in the machine. The first is our desire to actually do certain things,
not just experience them. The second is our aspiration to actually be certain people, not just a blob
in a tank with dubious
significance. The third is our desire to be limited by reality as it
actually is, not just a reality that we as
humans can conceive of (Nozick

Privilege To Vote
Voting is a Privilege
As a person of color, I encourage all who have the ability to vote to do so. It is something that
should not be taken for granted. My parents are immigrants and consequently are deprived from
voting due to the lack of a document. This makes me realize the privilege that I have in being able
to vote. In my community, I see people who are forced to stay silent and have their lives in the
United States shaped by those who have the privilege to exercise their democratic right to vote.
When deciding whether or not to vote, keep in mind marginalized communities such as immigrants,
undocumented young people who seek a better life and education in the United States, Muslims,
whose identity and religion are criminalized, and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Society builds their own truths, and what they want to consider is good or bad, but it is this own
dichotomy of good and bad that is actually causing self harm to society. This mindset simplifies
our own thinking because we are limiting ourselves to an either or basis and do not focus on the
grey area between good and bad, because our reality is never just black and white; these are just
generic terms. In hindsight, the problems that we see today are a result of the detrimental and
lethal effects of the choices that our past presidents have made on the lives of people of color
abroad and within the United States. It is you who has the power to vote for a presidential
candidate that will advocate for those who have no voice, fight for social justice and amend the
actions of those in power who have lacked empathy and compassion. Votingin the California
primaries was necessary, yet too many did not go out and vote. But your vote this November is
indispensable. Not his, or hers, but yours. You have the voice. Use it. Be the voice of your
community. Let their history and culture be heard. End the oppression.

For the betterment of the country. Besides the debate who government shall be run by, they also
had different opinions on what type of laws should be set in place, loose or strict construction.
Loose construction allows the government to stretch or change the constitution, as long as it
benefits the common good of the people. While strict construction, makes the government follow
the exact laws set in place by the constitution. Hamilton had the better vision with the idea of loose
construction because the government changes throughout time, the needs of the people changes, so
the constitution would be have to be amended and stretched to fit those needs. Another debate
between Jefferson and Hamilton was whether or not the Bill of Rights was needed before the
government was formed. While Hamilton said that the Bill of Rights was unnecessary to have
before the government was formed, Jefferson had the better opinion. The Bill of Rights gave the
people and states rights, before a government is formed the people in the country and the
government should know what rights the states and citizens have, so there will be no law that
contrasts to the rights of the people. The United States economy was another extensive topic that
Jefferson and Hamilton disagreed on, both had very strong arguments. Jefferson, being a farmer
himself, that the economy was ran off of agriculture, specifically from the South. Hamilton thought

The Yellow Wall Paper is a short story that was published in 1892 by Charlotte Perkins Gilman.
Gilman s ideas about equality for men and women are vividly present in the short story. She
believed that women should be more equal economically, socially, and be able to have jobs and

telling it as a first person experience. The story The Yellow Wall Paper is considered one of
Gilman s most famous short stories. Charlotte Perkins Gilmanwas born on July 3rd in 1860 in

Chan s article (2016) talked about how identity, efficacy and anger help legitimize and support
the activities of social movements. First, according to social identity theory, if individuals
categorized themselves into the groups they belong to, they would be more motivated to
support the group and act in accordance with the internal goal. In other words, Higher levels of
group identification with the in group is related to a greater likelihood of engagement (Kelly,

the sharply decreasing oyster population is closely related to their daily life. For example,

higher group efficacy is a stronger predictor of collection actions. For our campaign, we tried to

Symbolism In La Inferno
For centuries writers have used symbolism in literature to garner the attention of readers. One of
the finest examples of this is La Comedia or The Divine Comedy by Dante Alighieri. Critics, in
particular, recognize the first canticle of the comedy, The Inferno, as an unequivocal masterpiece of
visual and allegorical imagery. Dante very skillfully weaves figurative language with tangible
physical descriptions to achieve an unparalleled poetic work that continues to have immeasurable
influence on western literature to this day. Every aspect of The Infernois gravid with endless
symbolism specifically referencing mankind s sins and the subsequent retributions dealt to those
who commit them by a wrathful God. This accords Dante s poetic work with its iconic complexity
and attaches deeper meaning to his adventurous journey through hell.
The Divine Comedy in its entirety is nothing but a parable into the spiritual journey of human
life. In Canto 1, Dante, the protagonist, in the middle years of his life, tries to navigate his way
out of a dark and scary forest in search of light. Dante uses the dark forest as a metaphor for sin,
and the light he seeks as God in heaven. As he attempts to get through the forest he is confronted
by three beasts. He describes the encounters as I faced a spotted Leopard,...../And it would not
pass... (1:33 34), ... great Lion that broke upon me/ raging with hunger... (1:44 45), and ... a She
Wolf drove upon me, ...starved horror/ ravening and wasted. (1:48 49). These three beasts the
Leopard, the Lion, and the She Wolf, by virtue of their salient characteristics, symbolize the three
different categories of sins malice and fraud, violence and pride, and greed and lust, respectively.
The leopard, with its spotted pelt, is considered a master of disguise, biding its time to strike down
prey at the most optimal moment; akin to a malicious person who often presents himself
respectably and hides his true motives. The lion is known to satisfy his individual needs through
violence and aggression and is thus able to establish himself as the top predator in the food chain.
Similarly, humans are known to resort to violent means to fulfill their needs and ambitions. The she

Reflective Essay On Learning
When it comes to learning, the majority of people have their own way of getting a specific task
done. Since the day that we began learning in school, our ability to learn has developed as we
advance through each grade level. In kindergarten, we were beginning to develop the necessary
skills to memorize simple math and basic English. Once we started in college, however, our ability
to complete long readings and assignments is expected to be ready for the college level. Some
students have learned new learningstrategies while others have kept to the same game plan. Much
of high school is meant to prepare the student for the workload and difficulty of college courses.
Some students push themselves every year to become better learners while others, tend to postpone
assignments until the last minute. Each year the difficulty of the assignments given increases
greatly and our ability to learn new strategies is important to the workprocess. Each student has a
different strategy that they follow in order to complete an assignment. While some students begin
assignments ahead of time and plan ahead, others do not attempt to learn new strategies and leave
their work for last minute. Learning to learn is a process that takes much time and dedication in
order to achieve. In many cases, students stick to the strategies that they know best. Their strategies
can vary from deep reading to simply skimming through the reading. In my case, I consider myself

Abortions should be illegal in the United States. Abortions have been occurring since the 1800`s.
They were banned in the 1880 s except to save the life of the women. However, the Supreme Court
ruled in 1973, in the case Roe vs Wade that abortion is legal in the first trimester. I disagree with
this ruling because it is morally wrong. Secondly, every human being must be responsible for their
actions. Lastly, there are many options available to prevent becoming a parent. We have to right to
decide when we want to become a parent, but not if it involves terminating another human life.

The arrow was fired into the target of choice, usually an item of prey such as the antelope, with
the hunter then tracking the doomed animal until the poison caused its collapse. Although this is
not considered warfare between humans, this still provides knowledge on the use of chemicals to
cause harm. From here we can infer that even the use of these chemicals in ancient times had an
effect on the environment. If early humans were using chemicals to hunt and kill their prey, it
may have created an unbalance in the habitat of the time. If the antelope population was to
suddenly decrease with the use of chemicals, the predator of the antelope may starve and die, later
causing a possible extinction of that particular species. Chemical weapons in the form of liquid
were not the only type of chemicals used in the beginning of human history. The earliest recorded
use of gas warfare in the West dates back to the 5th century BC, during the Peloponnesian War

The For A Good Risk Management Plan
Alcohol and rock concerts often intersected over the course of time; plenty of concerts and
festivals have either used alcohol as a sponsor or ancillary revenue. Alcohol and other types of
concessions sold at festivals are considered ancillary revenue because it is derived from goods or
services other than the primary service or good being offered (What is ancillary revenue, 2015,
para.1). Therefore, serving alcohol at festivals is another way for the promotors, event managers,
and the venue to obtain additional source of revenue. As the event manager for the Freedom festival
, a rock roll festival being held at the PNC Music Pavilion in Charlotte, NC; it is the intention of
the festival to provide the patrons with a safe and fun environment to enjoy their favorite music.
The basis for a good risk management plan is providing a risk assessment for the event before
determining how to address the possible risks. A risk assessment is a process to identify potential
hazards and analyze what could happen if a hazard occurs (Risk Assessment, 2015, para.1).
Therefore, the risk assessment will be used to identify the possible problems that can arise from
alcohol. The Freedom Festival event planning committee is aware of, and concerned about the risks
and issues that are associated with the availability of alcohol throughout the course of the event, so
they plan is to create a risk management plan to address these risks. Violence, alcohol poisoning,

Pros And Cons Of Cluster Houses
With all the real estate jargon you see on real estate sites such as Property Guru, you may have
been confused by the term cluster house or wandered if it is the right choice for you. This quick
guide should tell you all you need to know and help you make a decision.
What is a Cluster House?
A cluster house, sometimes called a patio house, is essentially a regular sized family home which

Both apartments and detached houses feel isolating much of the time. Cluster houses are ideal for
socialising with neighbours as they provide more of a feeling of community while still allowing

Good return for investors. If you are looking at properties for investment, you will find a great
demand for cluster houses from childless couples, professional singles, expats, and many others.
The changing face of the property market makes it a great time to invest in cluster houses. You

Cell Phones Are Changing The Lives Of Canadians
Cell Phones In Canadian Lives I believe cell phones are changing the lives of Canadians in a
negative way for several different reasons; all of which will be outlined below. First is the issue
of intimacy in relationships, because of cell phones we seem to have lost intimacy in our
relationships. I am not just talking about the intimacy between couples, I am referring to the
intimacy in all of our relationships. It is not unusual for a group of friends to be in the same
room, and barely talk to each other. Some might say it is unnecessary to speak just because you
are together, and I would agree, except I am not referring to the comfortable silence that occurs
when people are together. I am referring to the silence that occurs when every other person in the
room has their cell phone in their hand, texting, watching Youtube, or checking their Facebook
page. I have witnessed two people texting each other, you say, so what s the big deal? , I then
explain that they were sitting beside each other! How many times in an hour do you check your cell
phone? According to research scientist Helen Lee Lin, writing in Scientific American, the report
suggests that cell phones may serve as a reminder of the wider network to which we could connect,
inhibiting our ability to connect with the people right next to us. (http://www.cbc.ca/strombo/news

The Wife s Lament And The Seafarer
In the Anglo Saxon epic poems The Wife s Lament, The Wanderer, and The Seafarer, the authors
make their poetry much more interesting and enjoyable by inserting literary devices that add
meaning and cohesiveness to each line. Each poem contains multiple literary devices such as
kennings, caesuras, and imagery. These tools work together in order to add mood and transparency
to the poetry.
The Wife s Lament, translated by Ann Standford, uses numerous literary devices to convey the
pain and emotion of an exiled wife. The author of the poem uses a metaphor to compare the cave
the wife has moved into to an empty hall, under an oak tree in this den in the earth. / Ancient this
earth hall. (Stanford 28 9). Comparing the cave to an empty hall shows the loneliness and isolation
the abandoned wife is feeling. Another device used by the author in The Wife s Lament is
juxtaposition. In lines 42 43, the author writes, May that young man be sad minded always / hard

In the lines 8 9, the author of the poem uses a metaphor to compare icy bands to frozen chains.
This creates an image in the readers minds by suggesting that the ice around the sailor s feet is

readers when he uses a kenning to create a new description for hail: Frost bound the earth and
hail would fall, / The coldest seeds (Raffel 33). This kenning serves to provide an alternate view
and allude to the freezing weather conditions the narrator faces. Next, the author of The Seafarer
uses repetition with the word so in lines 40 41 and no in lines 44 45. This repetition exaggerates
the seafarer s misery by making it seem like he has wasted opportunity and failed to acquire

A Common Fear Of Population Growth
It s a common fear that population growth will exhaust resources and result in social or economic
disaster if it is not controlled. It is anticipated that most of the projected population growth during
this century will take place in developing nations. These countries have faced many challenges in
recent years, including low levels of education, poor health standards, scarcity, limited housing,
natural resource exhaustion, strife, and monetary and governmental command by other countries.
In places like Africa, industrial development has stalled and most workers still make a living from
survival agriculture. The association between populationand the environment is a complicated one,

Mostly they focused their attention on teaching married couples about birth control and dispensing
contraceptives, but some programs took more coercive approaches. China imposed a limit of one
child per family in 1979, with two children allowed in special cases (Price, 1999).
Large societies obviously consume more supplies than small ones, but depletion patterns and
technology selections may report for more environmental harms than pure digits of people. The
U.S. population is about one fourth as large as that of China or India, but the United States
currently uses far more energy because Americans are wealthier and use their prosperity to buy
energy intensive goods like automobiles and electronics (Arrow et al, 1995). However, China and
India are developing and becoming more prosperous, so their ecological effects will increase
because of both population expansion and consumption levels in the next several years. As income
increases and technologies diffuse through society, purchasers start to value environmental quality
more greatly and become more able to pay for it.

The Physics and Science of the Violoncello Essay
The violoncello, or more commonly known as the cello, is often referred to as the tenor of the
string family. The name violoncello literally means little violone where one means big and cello
means little. The violone was the lowest pitched instrument of the Viol family. By the end of the
19th century, the term violincello has been more or less replaced with cello. The cello has four
strings, tuned in relations of perfect 5ths. This fact is derived from the phenomenon of the overtone
series; a perfect fifth is the second overtone above the fundamental, and the first non repetitious
overtone. Therefore, relations of perfect fifths are the strongest relations in the musical language,
and are used for tuning as well as major... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The cello is usually made of wood, although materials such as carbon fiber or aluminum may be
used in place. Luis Clark is a very cello manufacturer that constructs carbon fiber cellos. They are
suited for outdoor concerts and events because of its resistence and strength to temperature and
humidity. The wood that s used for construction includes spruce for the top, maple for the back,
sides, and neck. The top and back parts of the cello are usually hand carved. The sides are
formed by heating up the wood and bending them. The body of the cello has two wide bouts at
the top and bottom, and two C bouts at the middle. A bridge and two f holes are in place below
the middle part. The top and back parts of the cello has purfling a decorative border inlay.
However, purfling is not just decoration; it is used to protect the instrument from cracks. Because
of playing, traveling, and/or the weather, the cello may form cracks around the rim, but the pufling
helps the crack spreading further to the top or the back.
Above the top part of the cello is the neck, pegbox, and, the scroll. They are usually carved out of
a single piece of maple. The fingerboard, which is glued to the neck, is spread over the body. The
nut is a raised piece of wood at the top of the fingerboard that keeps the strings in the correct spots
and distance. The pegbox has four tuning pegs, which have the four strings tied to it. The strings
are tuned by tuning the pegs, so that the

Why Is Assisted Suicide Legalized
If Assisted Suicide was to become a law that the states can use it a lot of people with illnesses
would die. This means that their family member would be in great grief to find that their family

might choose to die if Assisted Suicideis legalized in the States. A possible solution that could
occur is that it could become illegal in the States, so that patients could not make a rash decision
to kill themselves with drugs. Another possible solution could be that they could only make the
decision if their family members and relatives agree. Also, they could only choose this with relative

A possible solution to assisted suicide would be to stop it in every state in the US. This helps this
issue by stopping people from giving them the choice of assisted suicide. Which would lead to less
deaths from this issue.
Using lethal drugs to kill someone should be illegal in the US. Another, possible solution for this
could be to not use drugs to kill someone without any direction on self administration. This helps
this issue by not killing patients with drugs at their own home. This also helps people try to survive
their terminal illness instead of just giving up.
If assisted suicide becomes a law that is legalized that doctors and physicians patients will die if
they choose to. Assisted suicide means a situation in which a physician provides the means of death
for a gravely ill patient but the patient takes the final step. This is a problem because it s killing
patients with lethal drugs or killing patients with Euthanasia. Some solutions are to stop this in the

This camp out of them all killed the most people and was considerably known as the worst. The
Jews were treated like slaves and were forced into labor. They lived in conditions that no one

people had to live through brutal conditions.

Josef Mengele was a doctor that performed horrible operations on people of Auschwitz. He
studied twins, people with dwarfism, and people with an eye disease called noma. Most of
Mengele s patients were children. During Mengele s experiments that lasted for hours, people were
starved, exhausted, and scared ( Auschwitz Birkenau: Nazi Medical Experimentation. ). After
Mengele was finished with his research on people he would kill them. When they were killed he
examined their inner organs for any more research that could be done ( Auschwitz Birkenau: Nazi

The horrible conditions in Auschwitz left Jews suffering and many even dead. Jews had to live
in barracks that were unsanitary and caused many illnesses and disease. They were also forced
into labor that was hard and unbearable. Executions took place to innocent people. Death marches
were conducted that left many people dead. Medical experiments were done to harmless children
and some adults. Every day in the camp, prisoners feared for their life or the life of a loved one.

here intimating that the liberal democratic standard by which the West most conspicuously

Chapter 1 Introduction and overview of auditing
1. What does assurance mean in the financial reporting context? Who are the three parties relevant
to an assurance engagement?
An assurance engagement (or service) is defined as an engagement in which an assurance
practitioner expresses a conclusion designed to enhance the degree of confidence of the intended
users other than the responsible party about the outcome of the evaluation or measurement of a

Finally, the auditors will benefit from additional revenue which can be used to subsidise the audit
firm s investments in knowledge and systems, and streamline the audit.
The main disadvantages of audit firms providing services to their audit clients relate to potential
adverse effects on the auditor s independence. The auditor could be unwilling to provide services
which would reduce their audit fees or cause the client to seek another auditor. The auditor could be
unwilling to criticise something to the client which was provided by their consulting division. The
auditor could be blind to potential adverse impacts on the client s accounting systems from products
and services provided by their consulting division. Even if the consulting provided unquestionable
benefits to the client, the relationship between the audit firm and the client could become too cosy ,
and discourage the client from considering other auditors. Finally, the auditor could be reluctant to
qualify the audit report for fear of losing lucrative fees from consulting services. If this occurs, the
audit is less valuable because the auditor is less independent.
4. An assurance engagement involves evaluation or measurement of subject matter against criteria.

How Supporters of Slavery Used Legal, Religious, and...
Throughout the history of the United States, there have always been conflicts between the North
and the South. Basically throughout the 1900s, the North and South acted somewhat childishly
towards each other about different topics. As the North became more industrialized and self
sufficient, the South stayed behind and depended heavily on other countries for manufactured
goods in exchange for cotton. The North felt superior to the South, and the South was not pleased
about that. Although most Northerners didn t care much for slavery, there were handfuls that were
abolitionists and attacked the South on their backwards economy that depended on slavery . In the
South, not everyone was a slaveholder as one may think; there were actually... Show more content

This of course would be true if Scott had been a citizen but according to the decision of the
Supreme Court, all blacks, slaves or not, could never be citizens of the United States therefore Scott
s argument wasn t legitimate . The second part of the ruling stated that Congress did not have the
authority to prohibit slavery in federal territories. As one can see, the ruling came out in favor of the
protectors of slavery because they even if Scott had a legitimate argument, he would not have won
the case either way because the Missouri Compromise (which prohibited slavery in the Wisconsin
Territory) was unconstitutional. It reverted back to stating that the compromise violated the 5th
amendment , which was the protection of property, which if interpreted strictly would include
slaves. This was a smart tactic to use in protecting slavery because both the North and the South had
to comply with the Constitution, by interpreting it strictly, the South claimed to have a right of
keeping their slaves because they were property.
4 Another way supporters of slavery used a common ground to defend the institution was through
religion. Both the North and the South had established churches and since they all had the same
teachings, they could argue that slavery was a holy right due to the fact that it is referred to as so
in the Bible. They used arguments from the book of St. Paul and made references to Abrahamic
tradition . They used

Persuasive Essay On Climbing
Why do you climb? Four words; four syllables; one question that I ve heard a countless number
of times; one question that I never knew how to answer. (Antithesis) Climbing is a sport that is
performed in most corners of the world; it s objective is to develop and carry out a method of
ascending a rock face, be it with tools, by hand, with protection, or without. For most people, it
is a game to be played for the hell of it; for the majority, it is a social environment that connects
people of all ethnicities and ages; for some, it s a direct connection to the beauty of the outdoors;
for few, it s a way of acquainting oneself with fear; for a minority, it is a masochistic drive; and
for me, it is all of the above. Although all of these general reasons motivate climbers in their
everyday ambitions, the source of their passion is as obscure as the virgin stone itself. From what
I ve learned, there are endless ways to answer this age old question, but three of them stood out the
most: to find purpose, to find community, and to find what is elusive. With death being an
inevitable conclusion to life, it can be said that the true value of a life is not determined by how
long it was lived or what was done during its time, but from what it left behind. In a sport of
pushing the physical and psychological boundaries, climbers seek recognition in their
achievements, whether it is by finding a new climb that will measure its test of time or being the
first to climb a daunting line

Good For Great, By Jim Collins
Good to Great, by Jim Collins, is based on seven principles that propel organizations into the next
level of service: Level 5 Executive Leadership; First Who, Then What; Confront the Brutal Facts;
The Hedgehog Concept; A Culture of Discipline; Technology Accelerators; The Flywheel and the
Doom Loop (Collins, 2001). By recognizing these opportunities for growth, organizations can turn
from good to great with the proper leadership. Leadership is built on a hierarchy of stages, and a
leader gradually grows through the levels or may even land anywhere among the levels. Level 1
is a leader who is able to make decisions for the organization based on their skill levels and
background knowledge. Leaders performing at Level 2 effectively work with others in a small
setting by contributing their own capabilities. At Level 3, the leader is a competent manager
who utilizes resources and personnel toward predetermined objectives. The Effective Leader at
Level 4 works towards the vision by setting high standards for the organization. Level 5
Leadership, which transforms an organization from good to great, refers to leaders who not only
accept humility, but also professional will. The great leader strives to make the organizational
successful, not just themselves. He or she does whatever needs to be done to make the company
great (2001, p. 30). This level of leadership is exhibited in the Gillette case. The CEO, Coleman
Mockler, and his leadership team strived to make the

Character Analysis Of Okonkwo
Okonkwo: Tragic Hero
According to dictionary.com, a tragic hero is a great or virtuous character in a dramatic tragedy
who is destined for downfall, suffering, or defeat. In the book, Things Fall Apart by Chinua
Achebe, the main character Okonkwo struggles with the fear of being like his father. Okonkwo also
has a hard time dealing with the Christian missionaries and the British colonialism influencing his
clan. Okonkwo is a tragic hero because of his fatal judgment errors and outside forces building up
to his tragic downfall, even though he was well respected among the entire Igbo Tribe. Okonkwo
shows many judgmental weaknesses. The clan demanded for Ikemefuna to be killed so when it was

So brutally chops his head off and has no remorse for his actions. Okonkwo never stopped to think
of the repercussions of his actions, he acted in the moment, allowing whatever emotion he was
feeling at that particular moment control him and tell him what to do.
Okonkwo was influenced man many external forces. Okonkwo beats his children and his wives
because He had no patience with unsuccessful men. He had had no patience with his father (4).
Unoka, Okonkwo s father, was a very lazy man and an outside force that helped craft Okonkwo s
lifestyle. Okonkwo saw the way his father lived and hated how useless, he was in the world, so
he was influenced to not become lazy and especially not to allow his kids to become anything
like his father or they got beat. Okonkwo was a brave and powerful man But his whole life was
dominated by fear, the fear of failure and of weakness (13). Okonkwo didn t want people to see
him as weak, and because of this Okonkwo was very wealthy. In Okonkwo s clan, how many
titles the person has taken and the number of barns full of yams was the way to tell if someone
was wealth and success. In these circumstances, Okonkwo had two tiles and two barns full of
yams, so he was a extremely successful and wealthy man. In Okonkwo s clan, British colonialism
settled to try and convert the Ibo people to Christianity. Okonkwo did not like this and wanted to
kill them all but his clan said no. Okonkwo ends up killing a Christian

Analysis Of Rene Culler s The Glass
Rene Culler s career in glass which spans nearly 30 years consistently shows themes of both
personal growth and an increasing insight into mysticism throughout her work. Mysticism is
defined as Mystical, mysterious, and filled with wonder, mysticism is easily associated with
crystals, New Age theories, or the occult (the supernatural). The truth is the emphasis on spiritual
connection and union, and the mysteries of religion over dogma or rigid rules. Outside of religion,
mysticism is applied to cryptic, obscure, or irrational thought leaning toward mystery and wonder,
rather than logic. Culler s work shows her fascination with mysticism and her journey in an
concentrated combination of what is unexpected in the context of personal experiences in her Head
and Heart, Grail, and Magic Square series to name an few. Perhaps one of the most intriguing and
thought provoking aspects of her work is that Culler presents items that could have a purpose and
then transforms them into an surreal interpretation of practicality shrouded in experienced reality.
As a method of constantly challenging a perceived functionality process became very important to
Culler, so much so that she developed her own technical process to create her sculptures. She self
named the process as Kiln Transformed Glass. Culler s daring in functionality directly affected the
process she now embraces. This process enables her to combine three forms of glass art; Kiln
Formed Glass, Glassblowing and Glass

Comparison of The Red Room and The Signalman Essay
Comparison of The Red Room and The Signalman.
The two stories we were asked to compare had one common themes which were the building of fear
and suspense throughout.
One clear difference between the stories was the function of fear in the stories. In the The Red
Room the author does not only use fear as a means of evolving the story but also places it at the
centre of the story. The Signalman uses fear of the supernatural as a means of making the story
more believable as done in The Red Room . Although both stories are equally frightening, I feel that
The Red Room contains much more suspense than The Signalman , I think that the excess of
suspense in The Red Room is due to it having more characters and actions. ... Show more content

The narrators are not named in either of the stories but in The Red
Room the narrator is described in more detail, he is described as the
28 year old young man . He is the only youthful character in the story, all the other characters seem
to blend in with the castle; they are old and grotesque. They seem to add to the atmosphere of fear
and the supernatural, they also seem to symbolise the castle itself; they are both mysterious and
rather threatening.
In The Signalman there are only two characters who both play major roles in the unravelling of
the story. The Signalman himself is physically described to fit in with his grim surroundings, he
seems to be part of the gloominess of the railway cutting, All what is revealed other than his
appearance is his job.
No names are revealed in either of the stories, I think that this creates a distance between the readers
and the characters as there is no need for the readers to be familiar with them because these are both
short stories. Instead, the writers in both stories concentrate on the events and their description
rather than the characters.
As both stories were written such a long time a go, their language is very much part of their era.
Readers in the present will find the language quite unfamiliar in places, such as in The Red Room ,

Pan Arabism Research Paper
Pan Arabism was a movement that reached its high point in the 60 s and 70 s that called for the
unification of countries from North Africa and Asia to create a national Arabic identity. Although
Pan Arabism was its own movement, it closely was tied with Arab Nationalism, which basically
wanted a unified Arab country with lesser western political intervention. In this paper I will talk
about what lead to Pan Arabism and how it came to become an actual movement. I will also cover
Arab Nationalismbecause of its close relation to Pan Arabism. After I talk about Pan Arabism, I
will talk about the importance of Arabic language to the actual Arabic identity and the efforts that
are taken to prevent the downfall of this language. I will also cover the Politics of the time period
of Pan Arabism talking about Nasserisim and the Bath Party. Lastly, and most Importantly, I will
talk about unity in Pan Arabism covering the United Arab Republic, the Islamist Arabic Union,
Maghreb Union, and many more. Basically, I will talk about what time frame these unions were
introduced, what caused them, what their intent was, and why they failed if they did so. I also
intend on presenting the case as to whether a true Arab identity exists and what makes it up.
Initially, what caused the movements of Pan Arabism and Arab Nationalism to fail is inevitable
political intervention of western nations. I also believe that language and geographic positions were
not enough for nations to unify. That is what

Nathanial Hawthorne s Rappaccinis Daughter
The work I chose to write about is Hawthorne s Rappaccinis Daughter. I first want to start off by
noting that Nathanial Hawthorne is one of the most known novelists of the romanticism movement
in American Literature. One example of romanticism is the idea of the individual presenting as
more important than society. Doctor Rappaccini conducted a deadly experiment with his daughter,
Beatrice. He tells Beatrice that he did everything to make her into a super human being, but
eventually it becomes rather apparent that she was just a part of an extravagant experiment rather
than a daughter he loved.
Another aspect of romanticism that occurred in this story is the fact of nature being used to reveal
truth. The plants in the garden present

My Experience In Singapore
A mind that is stretched by a new experience can never go back to its old dimensions. These
words by Oliver Wendell Holmes Jr. perfectly describe how my travel experience in Singapore
this past summer has changed my life. Traveling to Singapore has been an item on my bucket
list that I never thought I would ever be able to accomplish at such a young age. Through my
travel, I had the opportunity to immerse myself in the culture by living life as a local while
visiting the major tourist spots that the country had to offer. I also had firsthand experience with
the Singaporean lifestyle and I was so amazed by the beauty of the country. Because of this, my
travel to Singapore has given me a new perspective on countries and has broadened my horizons
in terms of travelling to a new place. On July 31st, 2017, my trip to Singapore commenced with
a four hour flight from Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia at seven o clock in the morning. Despite having
woken up just a few hours after midnight and running very low on sleep, I was euphoric that I
was finally given an opportunity to visit such a multi cultured country. As the airplane began to
ascend, I leaned back into the stiff seat and gripped on the armrest because although I have
flown a couple of times in the past, I always seemed to get nauseous and apprehensive. However,
my nausea soon subsided when the airplane levelled out and the flight attendants strolled along
the aisles to distribute snacks. Shortly after, I peeked out the window and admired the thin
wisps of clouds in the dawn sky until I succumbed to my much needed slumber. I woke up from
my nap when I felt a light tap on my shoulder by my brother, Alex. He told me that it was time for
the plane to begin its descent so I gathered my belongings and adjusted my seat until it was
upright. As the airplane began to descend, I was filled with excitement and enthusiasm. I could feel
so much energy rush through my veins as my ears popped and I finally heard the flight attendant
say, Ladies and gentlemen, welcome to the Singapore Changi Airport! As soon as I stepped off of
the airplane, I was met with many fluorescent lights lining the lofty ceilings and glass windows
showcasing the modernistic architecture Singapore was

Essay On The Francine Odyssey
Quirky, upbeat music plays as Sam and Suzy continue their adventure by preparing dinner,
watching deer, and hiking through the rain. The map shows their journey on a dotted line to
illustrate the length of it and their arrival. At their newly formed campsite, they catch fish for
dinner and decide to take inventory. While Sam brought everything they seem to need for
outdoor survival, Suzy brought (her brother s) record player, kitten food, records, books, lefty
scissors, rubber bands, batteries, toothbrush, and binoculars. Of course Sam s concern is other
whether she stole the books from the library. They discuss why she would do that coming down
to the fact that her parents have a book called Coping with a Very Troubled Child. At this Sam
laughs despite himself, which upsets Suzy causing her to storm off to the tent and zip it up.
Sam, after processing for a few dumbfounded seconds, goes after her to tent. He apologizes and
tells her that he is on her side which she accepts. During the interaction, each child s face is
shown close up as though the viewer was the one sitting in front of them, adding another sense of
depth into this fictional world. Suzy ends up reading her favorite book to Sam called The
Francine Odyssey, a reference to Homer s Odyssey, a story about a man s long journey back home.
This would, at first glance, be considered iconic, but in actuality this journey transforms each child
s family so that they might finally feel at home. Sam falls asleep, but

Deregulation Created the Subprime Mortgage Crisis
Deregulation Created the Subprime Mortgage Crisis The mid 1990s saw an economic revival.
What incited this activity was a technology boom like no other. It created a new era of
electronics and computing. There were cell phones, desktop and laptop computers, the Internet,
electronic games, flat panel TVs and major advances in business software and efficiencies. The
housing industry was a big benefactor of this new economy. Home prices began to rise again by
1996. The rate of home ownership during the 1970s, 1980s and the first half of the 1990s
averaged 64.4 percent. The rate began to rise in 1995, peaking at 69.2 percent in 2004. New
housing rebounded. The economic turnaround brought California hit especially hard by the last...

As reported by the Washington Post s Robert O Harrow Jr. and Brady Dennis in an article titled,
The Beautiful Machine , Financial Products unleashed techniques that others on Wall Street rushed
to emulate, creating vast, interlocking deals that bound together financial institutions in ways that
no one fully understood and contributed to the demise of its parent company (AIG) as a private
enterprise...many of the most compelling aspects of the economic cataclysm can be seen through
the story of AIG and its Financial Products unit: the failure of credit rating firms, the absence of
meaningful federal regulation, the mistaken belief that private contracts did not pose systemic risk,
the veneration of computer models and quantitative analysis. However, a November 13, 2009
column by Edward Pinto in the Wall Street Journal blames Congress and affordable housing
programs, Congress s goal was to force these two government sponsored enterprises (GSEs Fannie

An entrepreneur is a person who organizes and manages a business undertaking, assuming the risk

do not fully recognize, to meet an unsatisfied demand or to radically improve the performance of an
existing business. To have self belief that this opportunity can be made real through hard work,

  • 2. Gummy Bear Hypothesis For Osmosis Introduction: Osmosis is a natural occurrence constantly happening within the cells of all living things. For osmosis to occur, water molecules must move across a semipermeable membrane from an area of low concentration to an are of high concentration. In order to understand osmosis, people must understand the different types of concentrations that can be present within solution. One of them is an Isotonic solution where the concentration of dissolved particles is equal to that of a cell s. Another is a hypertonic solution where there is a higher concentration of dissolved particles then inside the cell. And lastly there is a hypotonic solution where there are less dissolved particles than inside the cell. As dissolved particles move to a region of lower concentration, water moves the opposite direction as a result of there being less water in the highly concentrated region. In this experiment, gummy bears were placed in salt water, sugar water, and tap water to find the measure of osmosis between the solution and gummy bear. Hypothesis: If the gummy bear is added to the solution, then it will lose its coloring and expand. Materials: The materials used during the experiment included three plastic cups, three gummy bears, masking tape, marker, balance, calculator, tray, one plastic spoon, a measurement tray, and a ruler. The three plastic cups were used to hold the tap water, salt water, and sugar water. The masking tape and marker were used to label each cup with the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. History Of Intermodal Containers And The World Trade Commerce History of Intermodal Containers For a very long time people have been trading goods with each other within their city, out of their city, and even across borders and oceans. As technology has advanced, so has different modes of transportation to make it easier for people to get their products that they need while shipping out products to other people. The world that we live in is a great big place and in order for us humans to survive and grow we need ways to reach out to other people and communicate the things that we need to do that. What I m going to be talking about is the history of intermodal containers and how they play a big role in the world trade commerce. It all started with a man that goes by Malcolm McLean who was born in 1913 in Maxton, North Carolina. Malcolm started out by pumping gas at a local gas station to where he saved up enough money to buy him a truck. From there he created McLean Trucking company, involving his own family members and as Malcolm as one of the drivers they hauled empty tobacco barrels as their first cargo. Since his only pick up truck in 1934 to 1770 trucks and 32 terminals in 1956, McLean Trucking became the second largest trucking company in the United States, and the first trucking company to appear on the stock exchange. Though all of his success early on, Malcolm sold his interest in his company and wanted to try something different. The idea of transporting trucks on ships during World War II was around but Malcolm ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 5. Essay on The Hacker Community Hackers are typically defined as individuals that gain unauthorized access to another person s computer. Although that definition is rather specific it can be broadened to include other illegal activities such as phishing , which can be done on its own and may be separate from hacking. The hacker community is what is contended to be an imagined community meaning they occupy no singular geographic location, like members of a community like Rosedale, nor have they have any set guidelines for becoming a computer hacker. The hackercommunity is highly fluid, with members leaving and others taking their places all the time. Most hackers tend to either form close connections with just a few other community members or formalize groups and... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Hackers are given more of a free pass than other deviant communities are from society because of the high level anonymity in the community, their motivations are claimed to be honourable, and the high amount permeability of computer culture into the mainstream normalizes their behaviour. Anonymity and Secrecy Anonymity is a defining characteristic of the internet, but, the understanding of the word is different for the hacker community than it is for the general public, as it if often closely tied to the notion of secrecy. Even though these two words are so closely related they remain distinct from one another. For example, one can choose never to identify themselves, instead opting to remain totally anonymous in the truest sense of the word. Fox news did a report on such a group actually named Anonymous where none of the hackers use screen handles, instead loosely organizing themselves on a message board. However it would seem that the majority of hackers choose to identify themselves via a handle. The word handle basically refers to what most would think of as a screen name or user name which allows the hacker to be easily indentified by members of the community. Furthermore, the use of a handle, or screen name, allows that hacker to take credit for their deeds online while keeping their real life separate. A disadvantage to using screen names, as pointed out in Jordan and Taylor s article, is that a single individual may have ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. An Adaptive Traffic Engineering System Based On Virtual... AMPLE: An adaptive traffic engineering system based on virtual routing topologies Manikanthreddy Charabuddi project report submitted in partial fulfillment of the requirement for the degree in master of sciences Fall 2013 under the guidance of Dr. Mais W Nijim Texas A M University Kingsville EECSDept MSC192, Kingsville, Texas 78363 Contemporary network management systems mainly deal with avoiding network congestion and frequent service disruptions by effectively handling the traffic dynamics. IP base environments still don t have efficient system to utilize all the resources and efficient solution for dynamic traffic and network conditions. So in this article we introduce a efficient traffic engineering and managing mechanism called AMPLE. This system mainly consists of two components: Link Weight Optimization (OLWO) and Adaptive Traffic Control (ATC). Link Weight Optimization (OLWO) component generates maximum IGP path diversity using physical network topology as a input. OLWO setting of link weights are optimized for maximum path diversity. The next component ATC comes into the picture based on these diverse paths. ATC can efficiently manage the splitting ratios across individual routing topologies. ATC does this by monitoring the network dynamics in a short interval of time. We evaluated the proposed system using real network topologies and found that the system can effectively handle the unprepared traffic dynamics and it can be used to achieve better quality ... • 7. The Falsity Of Robert Nozick s Experience Machine In his 1974 book Anarchy, State and Utopia, philosopher Robert Nozick offers the experience machine as a thought experiment designed to argue the falsity of prudential hedonism. Nozick asks us to imagine an experience machine whose sole purpose is to provide individuals with any desirable or pleasurable experiences they want. The problem arises when we must ask ourselves if we would enter the machine. Although Robert Nozick s experience machine presents us with a realistic virtual reality, it is missing something other than experiences, providing us with no reason to plug into the machine. The experience machine thought experiment is designed to give you any experience you desire. With the help of incredible neuropsychologists, your brain ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Hedonism states that pleasure is the good, meaning that any unit of life that is not pleasurable does nothing directly to increase one s well being. The experience machine works under the assumption that if a reasonable and informed subject, i, would choose S over S , then S would contribute more to i s wellbeing than S (Baber 133). If all that mattered to us was pleasure then we would want to plug into the machine. But there is something other than pleasure that has intrinsic value, which can be used to increase our well being. Consequently, we do not want to plug in. Most individuals, as it turns out, favour hedonically inferior states of doing and being than life in the machine, so we are supposed to conclude that hedonism is false. According to Nozick, three things matter to us, in addition to one s experiences and what one is like, that he believes are missing from a life in the machine. The first is our desire to actually do certain things, not just experience them. The second is our aspiration to actually be certain people, not just a blob in a tank with dubious
significance. The third is our desire to be limited by reality as it actually is, not just a reality that we as
humans can conceive of (Nozick ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 8. Privilege To Vote Voting is a Privilege As a person of color, I encourage all who have the ability to vote to do so. It is something that should not be taken for granted. My parents are immigrants and consequently are deprived from voting due to the lack of a document. This makes me realize the privilege that I have in being able to vote. In my community, I see people who are forced to stay silent and have their lives in the United States shaped by those who have the privilege to exercise their democratic right to vote. When deciding whether or not to vote, keep in mind marginalized communities such as immigrants, undocumented young people who seek a better life and education in the United States, Muslims, whose identity and religion are criminalized, and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Society builds their own truths, and what they want to consider is good or bad, but it is this own dichotomy of good and bad that is actually causing self harm to society. This mindset simplifies our own thinking because we are limiting ourselves to an either or basis and do not focus on the grey area between good and bad, because our reality is never just black and white; these are just generic terms. In hindsight, the problems that we see today are a result of the detrimental and lethal effects of the choices that our past presidents have made on the lives of people of color abroad and within the United States. It is you who has the power to vote for a presidential candidate that will advocate for those who have no voice, fight for social justice and amend the actions of those in power who have lacked empathy and compassion. Votingin the California primaries was necessary, yet too many did not go out and vote. But your vote this November is indispensable. Not his, or hers, but yours. You have the voice. Use it. Jefferson grew up in Virginia to a well respected family, while Hamilton was born in the Caribbean Island of St. Croix, but moved to America when he at age thirteen to get a better education. They were both prodigies in writing, Hamilton wrote about a hurricane around eleven, amazing many people, and Jefferson was able to write eloquence with his pen, all throughout his life. Besides the debate who government shall be run by, they also had different opinions on what type of laws should be set in place, loose or strict construction. Loose construction allows the government to stretch or change the constitution, as long as it benefits the common good of the people. While strict construction, makes the government follow the exact laws set in place by the constitution. Hamilton had the better vision with the idea of loose construction because the government changes throughout time, the needs of the people changes, so the constitution would be have to be amended and stretched to fit those needs. Another debate between Jefferson and Hamilton was whether or not the Bill of Rights was needed before the government was formed. While Hamilton said that the Bill of Rights was unnecessary to have before the government was formed, Jefferson had the better opinion. The Bill of Rights gave the people and states rights, before a government is formed the people in the country and the government should know what rights the states and citizens have, so there will be no law that contrasts to the rights of the people. The United States economy was another extensive topic that Jefferson and Hamilton disagreed on, both had very strong arguments. The quote is about not being lazy and taking the easy way out and this song is about that, it expresses how people can make a change and take the hard way out and there will definitely be a better outcome. This also relates to the easy way not always being the right way by fulfilling you destiny as being a leader and a trustworthy person. Bodie Thoene once said What is right is often forgotten by what is convenient . The poem Road Not Taken by Robert Frost does relate to the quote because it s about taking the risky road and not the easy road and showing people that making the hard decision does pay off. In addition, the bay is one of the most productive estuaries in the country. • 14. Symbolism In La Inferno For centuries writers have used symbolism in literature to garner the attention of readers. One of the finest examples of this is La Comedia or The Divine Comedy by Dante Alighieri. Critics, in particular, recognize the first canticle of the comedy, The Inferno, as an unequivocal masterpiece of visual and allegorical imagery. Dante very skillfully weaves figurative language with tangible physical descriptions to achieve an unparalleled poetic work that continues to have immeasurable influence on western literature to this day. Every aspect of The Infernois gravid with endless symbolism specifically referencing mankind s sins and the subsequent retributions dealt to those who commit them by a wrathful God. This accords Dante s poetic work with its iconic complexity and attaches deeper meaning to his adventurous journey through hell. The Divine Comedy in its entirety is nothing but a parable into the spiritual journey of human life. In Canto 1, Dante, the protagonist, in the middle years of his life, tries to navigate his way out of a dark and scary forest in search of light. Dante uses the dark forest as a metaphor for sin, and the light he seeks as God in heaven. As he attempts to get through the forest he is confronted by three beasts. He describes the encounters as I faced a spotted Leopard,...../And it would not pass... (1:33 34), ... great Lion that broke upon me/ raging with hunger... (1:44 45), and ... a She Wolf drove upon me, ...starved horror/ ravening and wasted. (1:48 49). These three beasts the Leopard, the Lion, and the She Wolf, by virtue of their salient characteristics, symbolize the three different categories of sins malice and fraud, violence and pride, and greed and lust, respectively. The leopard, with its spotted pelt, is considered a master of disguise, biding its time to strike down prey at the most optimal moment; akin to a malicious person who often presents himself respectably and hides his true motives. The lion is known to satisfy his individual needs through violence and aggression and is thus able to establish himself as the top predator in the food chain. Similarly, humans are known to resort to violent means to fulfill their needs and ambitions. The she wolf, the last ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Since the day that we began learning in school, our ability to learn has developed as we advance through each grade level. In kindergarten, we were beginning to develop the necessary skills to memorize simple math and basic English. Once we started in college, however, our ability to complete long readings and assignments is expected to be ready for the college level. Some students have learned new learningstrategies while others have kept to the same game plan. Much of high school is meant to prepare the student for the workload and difficulty of college courses. Some students push themselves every year to become better learners while others, tend to postpone assignments until the last minute. Each year the difficulty of the assignments given increases greatly and our ability to learn new strategies is important to the workprocess. Each student has a different strategy that they follow in order to complete an assignment. While some students begin assignments ahead of time and plan ahead, others do not attempt to learn new strategies and leave their work for last minute. Learning to learn is a process that takes much time and dedication in order to achieve. In many cases, students stick to the strategies that they know best. Their strategies can vary from deep reading to simply skimming through the reading. In my case, I consider myself in the middle of this learning ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Although this is not considered warfare between humans, this still provides knowledge on the use of chemicals to cause harm. From here we can infer that even the use of these chemicals in ancient times had an effect on the environment. If early humans were using chemicals to hunt and kill their prey, it may have created an unbalance in the habitat of the time. If the antelope population was to suddenly decrease with the use of chemicals, the predator of the antelope may starve and die, later causing a possible extinction of that particular species. Chemical weapons in the form of liquid were not the only type of chemicals used in the beginning of human history. The earliest recorded use of gas warfare in the West dates back to the 5th century BC, during the Peloponnesian War between Athens and Sparta. Alcohol and other types of concessions sold at festivals are considered ancillary revenue because it is derived from goods or services other than the primary service or good being offered (What is ancillary revenue, 2015, para.1). Therefore, serving alcohol at festivals is another way for the promotors, event managers, and the venue to obtain additional source of revenue. Cell Phones Are Changing The Lives Of Canadians Cell Phones In Canadian Lives I believe cell phones are changing the lives of Canadians in a negative way for several different reasons; all of which will be outlined below. First is the issue of intimacy in relationships, because of cell phones we seem to have lost intimacy in our relationships. I am not just talking about the intimacy between couples, I am referring to the intimacy in all of our relationships. It is not unusual for a group of friends to be in the same room, and barely talk to each other. Some might say it is unnecessary to speak just because you are together, and I would agree, except I am not referring to the comfortable silence that occurs when people are together. I am referring to the silence that occurs when every other person in the room has their cell phone in their hand, texting, watching Youtube, or checking their Facebook page. I have witnessed two people texting each other, you say, so what s the big deal? , I then explain that they were sitting beside each other! How many times in an hour do you check your cell phone? According to research scientist Helen Lee Lin, writing in Scientific American, the report suggests that cell phones may serve as a reminder of the wider network to which we could connect, inhibiting our ability to connect with the people right next to us. Minh stated that time and resources were not of issue, the war was a fight for nationalism and self determination, regardless of the duration of the war or the amount of troops and resources lost, the Vietnamese would come out as victors. Finally, the auditors will benefit from additional revenue which can be used to subsidise the audit firm s investments in knowledge and systems, and streamline the audit. The main disadvantages of audit firms providing services to their audit clients relate to potential adverse effects on the auditor s independence. The auditor could be unwilling to provide services which would reduce their audit fees or cause the client to seek another auditor. The auditor could be unwilling to criticise something to the client which was provided by their consulting division. The auditor could be blind to potential adverse impacts on the client s accounting systems from products and services provided by their consulting division. Even if the consulting provided unquestionable benefits to the client, the relationship between the audit firm and the client could become too cosy , and discourage the client from considering other auditors. Finally, the auditor could be reluctant to qualify the audit report for fear of losing lucrative fees from consulting services. If this occurs, the audit is less valuable because the auditor is less independent. 4. An assurance engagement involves evaluation or measurement of subject matter against criteria.

Basically throughout the 1900s, the North and South acted somewhat childishly towards each other about different topics. As the North became more industrialized and self sufficient, the South stayed behind and depended heavily on other countries for manufactured goods in exchange for cotton. The North felt superior to the South, and the South was not pleased about that. Although most Northerners didn t care much for slavery, there were handfuls that were abolitionists and attacked the South on their backwards economy that depended on slavery . The second part of the ruling stated that Congress did not have the authority to prohibit slavery in federal territories. As one can see, the ruling came out in favor of the protectors of slavery because they even if Scott had a legitimate argument, he would not have won the case either way because the Missouri Compromise (which prohibited slavery in the Wisconsin Territory) was unconstitutional. It reverted back to stating that the compromise violated the 5th amendment , which was the protection of property, which if interpreted strictly would include slaves. This was a smart tactic to use in protecting slavery because both the North and the South had to comply with the Constitution, by interpreting it strictly, the South claimed to have a right of keeping their slaves because they were property. 4 Another way supporters of slavery used a common ground to defend the institution was through religion. Both the North and the South had established churches and since they all had the same teachings, they could argue that slavery was a holy right due to the fact that it is referred to as so in the Bible. • 44. Persuasive Essay On Climbing Why do you climb? Four words; four syllables; one question that I ve heard a countless number of times; one question that I never knew how to answer. (Antithesis) Climbing is a sport that is performed in most corners of the world; it s objective is to develop and carry out a method of ascending a rock face, be it with tools, by hand, with protection, or without. For most people, it is a game to be played for the hell of it; for the majority, it is a social environment that connects people of all ethnicities and ages; for some, it s a direct connection to the beauty of the outdoors; for few, it s a way of acquainting oneself with fear; for a minority, it is a masochistic drive; and for me, it is all of the above. Although all of these general reasons motivate climbers in their everyday ambitions, the source of their passion is as obscure as the virgin stone itself. From what I ve learned, there are endless ways to answer this age old question, but three of them stood out the most: to find purpose, to find community, and to find what is elusive. With death being an inevitable conclusion to life, it can be said that the true value of a life is not determined by how long it was lived or what was done during its time, but from what it left behind. In a sport of pushing the physical and psychological boundaries, climbers seek recognition in their achievements, whether it is by finding a new climb that will measure its test of time or being the first to climb a daunting line ... By recognizing these opportunities for growth, organizations can turn from good to great with the proper leadership. Leadership is built on a hierarchy of stages, and a leader gradually grows through the levels or may even land anywhere among the levels. Level 1 is a leader who is able to make decisions for the organization based on their skill levels and background knowledge. Leaders performing at Level 2 effectively work with others in a small setting by contributing their own capabilities. At Level 3, the leader is a competent manager who utilizes resources and personnel toward predetermined objectives. The Effective Leader at Level 4 works towards the vision by setting high standards for the organization. Level 5 Leadership, which transforms an organization from good to great, refers to leaders who not only accept humility, but also professional will. The great leader strives to make the organizational successful, not just themselves. He or she does whatever needs to be done to make the company great (2001, p. 30). Analysis Of Rene Culler s The Glass Rene Culler s career in glass which spans nearly 30 years consistently shows themes of both personal growth and an increasing insight into mysticism throughout her work. Mysticism is defined as Mystical, mysterious, and filled with wonder, mysticism is easily associated with crystals, New Age theories, or the occult (the supernatural). The truth is the emphasis on spiritual connection and union, and the mysteries of religion over dogma or rigid rules. Outside of religion, mysticism is applied to cryptic, obscure, or irrational thought leaning toward mystery and wonder, rather than logic. Culler s work shows her fascination with mysticism and her journey in an concentrated combination of what is unexpected in the context of personal experiences in her Head and Heart, Grail, and Magic Square series to name an few. Perhaps one of the most intriguing and thought provoking aspects of her work is that Culler presents items that could have a purpose and then transforms them into an surreal interpretation of practicality shrouded in experienced reality. As a method of constantly challenging a perceived functionality process became very important to Culler, so much so that she developed her own technical process to create her sculptures. In the The Red Room the author does not only use fear as a means of evolving the story but also places it at the centre of the story. The Signalman uses fear of the supernatural as a means of making the story more believable as done in The Red Room . Traveling to Singapore has been an item on my bucket list that I never thought I would ever be able to accomplish at such a young age. Through my travel, I had the opportunity to immerse myself in the culture by living life as a local while visiting the major tourist spots that the country had to offer. On July 31st, 2017, my trip to Singapore commenced with a four hour flight from Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia at seven o clock in the morning. Despite having woken up just a few hours after midnight and running very low on sleep, I was euphoric that I was finally given an opportunity to visit such a multi cultured country. As the airplane began to ascend, I leaned back into the stiff seat and gripped on the armrest because although I have flown a couple of times in the past, I always seemed to get nauseous and apprehensive. However, my nausea soon subsided when the airplane levelled out and the flight attendants strolled along the aisles to distribute snacks.
