My Childhood Memory
Roy, Timmy, and I sat on a log near a stream. Roy was the oldest out for all of us, and was more
logical in his thinking. He was approaching ten, and was starting to demand respect. Timmy Was a
little bit older then me, and was quite disgusting. I was the youngest, and being the only girl, I was
often picked on by the older two. My ideas were often consider irrelevant, and because they never
listened, we got into more trouble than necessary. I looked up at the trees, when I saw what looked
like a car. Hey guys, I said as I stood up from the log, elongating my arm and pointer finger at my
discovery. The boys eyes grew in amazement. Is that a car?! Roy asked flabbergasted. Timmy took off
running for the car. Hey wait up! I yowled, dashing after him. Timmy was like a monkey clambering
up the tree. His movement was eloquent, and he was already forming muscle mass at the age of seven.
I climbed up after him, and Roy followed behind. Timmy tried to force the door open. I could see that
he was getting frustrated. The door was wedged between the tree. The doors stucked dummy! Roy
shouted behind us. I climbed around to the other side of the car, and yanked on the car door. MOVE!
Timmy pushed me to the side, almost pushing me to the ground. Timmy yet again failed at opening
the door. The car is locked you guys, I said not thinking that I was just make the problem worse. We
all scurried down the tree. How do you think the car got up there? I asked, as we

Analysis Of The Film Sing Street
Finding fulfillment in life requires people to truly understand their reality and is only achieved through
an effort to grow out of one s comfort zone. This idea is explored in the film Sing Street, directed by
Jim Carney. The film follows the journey of Conor Lawlor, a shy schoolboy who gets moved from a
private school into a strict Catholic school due to his parent s financial situation. At Syng Street he is
bullied by another student and his principle. A turning point occurs when he falls in love with a
mysterious girl. After a desperate attempt to gain her phone number, he starts a band with a group of
outcasts from his school. Throughout the film, Carney suggests the idea that to fulfill one s happiness,
a person needs to make an effort to take a risk and push beyond their comfort zone, and while doing so
they also need to gain a sense of confidence in their identity. It is necessary to grow beyond hindering
beliefs to achieve a new perspective on life to lead to happiness. In the beginning, Carney
demonstrates that a person who is anchored by demotivating beliefs can ultimately compromise their
happiness. This is seen in the establishing shot where Conor is in his room and his parents can be
overheard arguing about their mortgage and their distaste for each other. Conor is unable to focus on
his romantic lyrics instead he sings their conversation out loud. This scene reveals that Conor is
negatively impacted because the only topic that is on his mind is the issue of

In 1973, they created the Honda Civic with a CVCC engine. This was the first car engine that was
accepted by the United States Clean Air Act or also known as the Muskie Act. In 1989, they
introduced a vehicle with a VTEC engine that helps with low fuel consumption and a high output, at
an advanced level. With that being said, Honda has great things to offer in the near future. One of their
next goals is to make a clarity fuel cell, a new fuel cell vehicle that emits only water. This will
represent Hondas renewed determination to realize a sustainable society and continue to present a new
value toward this specific goal. Honda has joined in making power products as well. Power products
including lawn mower, snow blowers, generators, and other household products. The production of
power products started in 1953 when they made the general purpose engine. For more than sixty years
they have been making diverse products that help people in many different ways. Honda offers fuel

Cyber Warfare And Its Effects On The World
Boom! The kinetic effect of a two thousand pound GBU 31 military designated MK 84 bomb,
possibly with a BLU 109 penetrator on the nose cone with an embedded global positioning system
guidance kit provides obvious visible damage somebody, or something, just fractured into smaller
pieces. The same is not necessarily the case with bellicose actions in the cyber dimension at least not
at first look. Senior leaders as a whole have largely ignored cyber warfare s catastrophic potential due
to the initial invisible physical effects and huge costs associated with protecting our systems and
information. As our reliance on technology grows as exponentially as the technology improves, more
people are finally showing an awareness of the silent boom s threat and its actual fracturing potential,
in part due to protagonists like Richard A. Clarke and Robert K. Knake and their continued warn of
cyber war s devastating potential for first, second, and tertiary effects.
Clarke and Knake use a mixed method research approach in Cyber War to support their hypothesis
that offensive prowess is meaningless without solid defense in cyberspace, and that the United States
need immediately fix our defensive cyber shortfalls, or face apocalyptic doom. Specifically, the
authors define cyber war as actions by a nation state to penetrate another nation s computers or
networks for the purposes of causing damage or disruption. This infers that they are really talking

Advantages Of Heat Transfer
In heat transfer, there are three modes for the transfer of heat named as Conduction, Convection and
Radiation. Every mode has its unique importance in a specific area. Convection heat transfer reflects
an advantage as it utilizes the heat transfer by means of a fluid either static or in motion. Convection
by means of a stagnant fluid implies Natural convection whereas by means of a fluid in a motion
reflects a Forced convection .
In a Natural convection flow, buoyancy and density effects are significant for the heat transfer
phenomenon. If a hot object is placed in a still air, the layer of air that is in contact with the object is
heated and as a result its density decreases. The air surrounding the heated layer of a fluid is cold and
of high density. As a result, the less dense air rises upward while the air of high density moves towards
a hot object under the buoyancy and density effects. This results in a phenomenon of Convection
currents that gives rise to a Natural convection phenomenon as shown in the figure 1. The figure 2
demonstrates the case for the cold object placed in a still air results in an opposite phenomenon.
Grashof number (GrL) is a dimensionless number which can be defined as the ratio of buoyancy force
to the viscous force that acts on a fluid. It is used for natural convection flow regimes.
The simple empirical correlation for the Nusselt number is given by;
The value of the constants C and n depends upon the surface geometry as well

Gas Chromatography Lab Report
For this experiment, Gas Chromatography (GC) is utilized to observe the streo and regiochemistry
among four elimination products under either basic or acidic conditions. The reagents used in this
experiment include primary and secondary alcohols which are in acidic conditions and
dehydrobromintion of primary and secondary alkyl halides in basic conditions. When reacted the gas
products are collected and undergo further analysis in the GC which will separate the product into its
components and will show the different distributions among the product. Theory In an elimination
reaction, the reagents in question proceed in either an E1 or E2 reaction mechanism in order to
produce an alkene. For this experiment, 1 butanol and 2 butanol, proceeds ... Show more content on

The reaction then proceeds in a deprotonation of a beta hydrogen while that remaining bond is turned
into an alkene to remove the carbocation. The products for these reagents are different according to
the selectivity of the beta protons. A 1 butene product results from a deprotonation of the terminal
methyl group and a cis or trans 2 butene product if the beta hydrogen is removed from the methylene
group on the other side of the carbocation. 2 butanol will produce these 3 products above; however, 1
butanol will undergo an unstable primary carbocation which will only result in 1 butene. When
observed in the GC it will experimentally result in this specific selectivity for these reactions as well.
For the reagents in basic conditions however will react with a strong bulky base (potassium tert
butoxide ) which will result in an E2 mechanism with no competition with a substitution mechanism.
For this mechanism, 1 bromobutane and 2 bromobutnane, will also result in the 3 products described
above, but will proceed in a faster reaction. First the reagent has to rearrange where the beta protons
are anti periplanar to the bromine atom. Unlike the E1 mechanism

Sampling exercise
The purpose of this exercise is to convey some basic concepts in regards to sampling while at the
same time deriving sampling distributions empirically. Deriving sampling distributions empirically
works best when there are a large number of samples. The idea here is that each student in the class
will create 20 samples for two populations, using two different sampling procedures, for a total of 80
samples. These samples will be combined into common datasets which will be used in class (and
made available to all students in the class.
The four sampling contexts will be: 1. Discrete numerical population, sampling ... Show more content

Sampling context 1: Discrete numerical population, sampling without replacement
The population
The population is comprised of 10 elements, with values from 1 to 10. It a discrete variable in that the
variable can only take on integer values. Also it is a uniform distribution in that each value appears
once in the population.
Below is a graphical representation of the population:
Sampling procedure
The kinds of samples we are going to generate are called simple random samples but sampling will be
done without replacement. Sampling without replacement means that an element is no longer
available for selection once it has been selected. In other words, the element is not replaced once
selected.
The sample size will be 5.
Cut out 10 cardboard squares measuring 3 cm x 3 cm
Number the squares from 1 through 10.
Place cardboard squares in a container.
Randomly select 5 squares without replacing the squares (You should have 5 squares in front of you.)
Record the numbers on the 5 squares (these are called your observed values) in columns D to H of the
spreadsheet.
Do this 20 times.
For these 20 rows (samples), DNWITHOUT should appear in Column C.

Wedding Cake Model In The Criminal Justice System
The criminal justice meaning of wedding cake model is theory that divides the proceedings in the
criminal justice system into four different part; celebration cases, serious felonies, lesser felonies, and
misdemeanors. The top layer of the cake is reserved for high profile cases, that involve individuals
with huge media profile. They gather a vast amount of attention because they typically have
defendants that are celebrities or high ranking officials. This is not the usual cases, because of their
high profile they need to take into consideration media in the court rooms and the high demand of
crowds. An example of these could be ones such as the OJ Simson murder trials. He was a sports
super star that was charged with a double murder. Second ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Scott Peterson who was found guilty of killing his pregnant wife. Both tiers of the cake model one and
two are high profile felony cases or ones that were committed by a person with a criminal record.
These crimes deal with victims that were seriously injured and where there was a weapon involved.
Level three cases, or lesser felonies, are usually committed by first offenders. They are less violent
crimes such as burglaries and thefts where no weapon is involved. These types do not receive the full
formal procedure of a trail. Level four is the lowest tier on the cake or the bottom, they are non violent
in nature shoplifting, public intoxication, disturbing the peace all fall into this category. These types of
cases are also the most common. Each layer of wedding cake model of criminal justice system
represents the four different classifications of crimes as stated above, but each of these levels are all
structured by the administration of justice. The administration of justice is not within the court itself
but the officers and the others who are responsible for ensuring that the court itself functions
successfully. Their main priority is to exercise the activities operated to up hold the laws, referring to

Embryonic Stem Cell Research And Current Use
Introduction:
The issue at discussion in this report is ESCR (embryonic stem cell research) and current use. This
issue causes controversial concerns because the first isolation of the embryo was in 1998, which is still
very recent and the policies around it are grey areas. Many countries including the United States of
America have removed funding because of issues that have risen due to religious, ethical and legal
formalities. Some of the benefits that ESC (embryonic stem cells) promise are the cure for many
diseases and even the creation of organs between other scientific advances that could save numerous
lives. The benefits that ESC could provide are sometimes questioned to be worth all the ethical issues
that they bring. Some ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The process to isolate an embryonic cell demands de inner cell of a blastocyst. A blastocyst can be
described as one of the earlier stages of an embryo, which is reached at about four to five days after
fertilization. In the blastocyst stage, the future embryo is not formed by more than fifty to a 150 cells.
In the blastocyst stage the cell is comprised of an external layer called trophoblast and the inner cell
mass comprised of approximately thirty cells which following normal procedures becomes the embryo
and the trophoblast, the placenta. In the process to cultivate the stem cell, the blastocyst must die as
the inner cell mass is removed. This practice has been legalized since 2002 in Australia but strict
guidelines in regards to licenses as to who is able to perform research and what is permitted in their
research must be met.
Alternative Views and their Explanation:
Dr. James Douglas professor and chair, cell and developmental biology director for Center of
Organogenesis has specialised and dedicated most of his career to research how tissues and organs are
generated in mammals and how cells are instructed to become specialised cells. Similarly, Dr. Eva L.
Feldman professor of neurology in the medical school A. Alfred Taubman Medical Research Institute
and director at ALS clinic has devoted her latest years in the field to conduct innovative research to
generate stem cell technology to treat ALS by injecting stem cells into the spinal cord.

Personalization In Health And Social Care Case Study
2.3 Personalization and Privacy Concern
In the rapidly developing mobile health market, MHS providers need personalized services
increasingly in order to attract customers and capture the market. Meanwhile, it will involve the issues
of users privacy inevitably, and this seems to be an adoption behavior paradox. On the one hand, users
enjoy personalized mobile health services, but on the other hand, they are reluctant to disclose their
personal information or as little as possible. To illustrate privacy concerns and personalization, they
will be discussed in detail separately.
2.3.1 Personalization
Personalization exists in many fields, and has been defined in many references (Hagen et al., 1999)

Users can not only improve the efficiency through applications and enjoy convenience brought by the
technology, but also can bring them to their lives, manage their health and access benefits from the
service. In this way, the mobile health user is not only a recipient of technology, but more as a
consumer. Moreover, mobile health services are based on users personal information. However, the
convenient and personalized service, inevitably, initiates users privacy concerns. Therefore,
personalization and privacy concern have moderating effects on the factors in protection motivation,
and consequently, influence the mobile health services adoption. The integrated model is depicted as

Band Session At The Baked Potato
This concert report will go into great detail regarding the performance that I witnessed, as well as the
genre of Jazz that was played, the artist, and the techniques that were used. I will start with my
personal experience of the concert that I attended. This will focus on the details of the performance, as
well as my mindset before and after the show. Next, this paper will research the origins of the genre of
Jazz that was played, which is Funk and has been supported by several scholarly sources. Then I will
look at the origin of the Jam Session. Finally I will then end with information regarding the
performers themselves as well as the history of the venue.
For my concert report I went with the members of my group presentation to the weekly jam session at
The Baked Potato, located in studio city. We just got done with a long night of studying, it was late, a
Monday, and I was tired. This was the first Jazz show that I have ever been to and I didn t know what
to expect. I had zero expectations going into this and in the end I m glad I didn t. When we arrived I
was immediately surprised at how small the venue was. There was maybe a little more than thirty
people in totally and it was a packed house. We took our seats right next to the stage, sitting directly in
front of the bassist and lead guitar player. As we ordered our two drink minimum and a couple of
baked potatoes to share, I watched as the rest of the band started to step on stage. Some seemed to

The Two Sides Of The Axis And Allied Alliances
World War II started in 1939 and ended in 1945. The World was practically split into two different
sides. These two sides were called the Allies and Axis Powers. The Axis and Allied Alliances
consisted of countries taking sides of each other. There were 3 main countries that formed the Axis
Powers. They were Germany, Japan, and Italy. Members of the Axis Powers were Adolf Hitler
(Germany), Benito Mussolini (Italy), and Hirohito (Japan). Many countries supported the Axis Powers
such as Thailand, Hungary, Romania, Bulgaria, and Croatia. On the other hand, the Allied Alliance
had way more supporters than the Axis Powers. Most of these supporters were part of the United
Nations. These nations included Australia, Belgium, Canada, China, Costa ... Show more content on

The Axis has quite an interesting history. Starting with the creation of the Axis Powers, it was created
in October of 1936 by Germany and Japan. By November they created the Anti Comintern that was
against the Soviet Union. In 1939, the Pact of Steel was created between Germany and Italy. This
would enable them to be linked with each other. By June 1940, Italy officially made its debut in
WWII, by invading France and was later arrested by Allies. Later that year, the Tripartite Pact was
created, making Japan officially an Axis. It was also created to convince the U.S to join the Axis
Powers. About two months later, Axis gained from the help of Hungary and Romania. In December of
1941 Japan bombed U.S, also known as Bombing of Pearl Harbor, causing U.S to join WWII. In 1943
things started to cool down when Italy surrendered. Germany reacted to this with Operation Axis . In
April of 1945 Hitler died. There is no exact answer of how he died, but one idea is that he committed
suicide and was tossed in a fire. A few days later Germany surrendered from the war. On September 2,

Controlling Cell Fate in Zebrafish
Over the past years, there have been many conflicting views over weather or not rest has an effect on
controlling cell fate. There has been previous studies that have indicated that the rest gene influences
gene expression. Researchers at the State University of New York at Stony Brook have taken it upon
themselves to determine if it is in fact true. By using methods like zinc finger nuclease and
quantitative PCR, they were able to find reliable evidence that: rest in zebrafish does have an
influencing affect on neural specific gene expression but it fails to have many significant effects on
zebrafish neurogenesis. First of all, lets look at why exactly scientists choose to work on zebrafish.
Zebrafish was chosen by George Streisinger who was looking for a vertebrae model system to do
work on genetics. It would appear that zebrasfish have some qualities that particularly makes them an
exceptional choice for study. They are easy to maintain, manipulate (ability to microinject DNA, RNA
and proteins into) and have many offspring rather rapidly. Another really interesting quality of
zebrafish is that in the first few days of embryonic development, embryons are transparent, which
allows imaging of cell movement and gene expression. Embryos also develop rather quickly; therefore
scientists could do testing sooner then would be capable if mammals were used. Now lets look at what
exactly is the rest protein. From what research has determined previously, we believe the rest

Alfred Hitchcock s Motion Picture Psycho
Alfred Hitchcock s motion picture Psycho, released in 1960, contains peculiar placement of predatory
birds and other fowls with corresponding lines regarding birds from Norman Bates, the primary
antagonist. Throughout the movie, various references concerning birds are can be drawn through the
use of bird s eye view camera angle, location names, and character names. As the movie begins, the
first camera angle used is bird s eye view. Viewers venture, bird like, into Marion Crane s apartment
complex where she and her lover, Sam Loomis, are conversing about their desire to get married.
Marion s last name, Crane, seems to symbolize her character in a physical way like an actual crane:
migratory and defenseless. Like the crane resides in a typically marshy area, Marion s eventual final
resting place is in a marshy swamp near the Bates Motel. After Marion steals $40,000 from her
employer s client to pay off Sam s debt, she runs away from her home, Phoenix. Like the mythological
bird, the city of Phoenix comes to represents Marion s death and rebirth as she leaves her innocent
secretarial job behind for a better life with Sam. Although these references to birds are subtle and can
remain unnoticed, there are other references in the movie that are entirely noticeable. In this film, the
reference to birds in the parlor and the motel room serve as a visual motif for Norman s conflict with
his mother, other women, and himself. The most obvious reference to birds takes place in the

A Look Into The Window Of The West
A Look into the Window of the West
Before the reign of Czar Peter the Great (1682 1725), Russia, had hardly ever been regarded as a part
of Europe. Peter s supremacy consequently manifested itself to catalyze an era of successful
Westernization for St. Petersburg and Russia as a whole. His main goal being to civilize the country
was accomplished through extensive changes in both political agendas, as well as cultural ones. Even
after Peter passed away in 1925, the city continued to westernize, attracting travelers from all over the
European community. One of these travelers was Sir Francis Dashwood. Dashwood was an English
politician and Chancellor of the Exchequer, a British Cabinet level position that appointed him as head
of Her Majesty s Treasury. Travelling to St. Petersburg on his Grand Tour in 1733, Dashwood was
fascinated by daily life in Russia and decided to write a diary to document this fascination. In his
diary, he examined refinements to Russo culture, architecture and government through a series of
detailed excerpts outlining what he observed on a daily basis in St. Petersburg. Dashwood s diary is
exceptionally unique in that there had never before been an account of St. Petersburg during the 1930
s (in English) of St. Petersburg on paper. This meant that when the diary would eventually be
published in 1959, it would open a myriad of information to the public, specifically the aristocrats of
Western Europe, about St. Petersburg and Russia s Westernization

Hydranths Feeding Habits

feeding habits of the Cordylophora carefully. While observing the feeding, I focused on one particular
hydranth with 18 tentacles that captured and ingested 8 Artemia. Meanwhile, a hydranth of similar
size with 15 tentacles caught no brine shrimp, even though many passed by it within reach. This lead
to the question of why some hydranths feed while others do not. I would like to determine if there is a
specific reason as to why some hydranths fed and others did not. Does the relative size of the
hydranths cause different feeding habits? Do hydranths rotate which ones feed in a logical manner or
is it entirely random? The specific materials I need

Climate change is happening and it is devastating. For example it s affecting glaciers, the Southwest
region, oceans, and agriculture. People know that climate change is happening because of studies
shown in multiple places. For example studies show that temperatures in the southwest have increased
by almost two degrees fahrenheit. This shows that climate change is devastating because increasing
temperatures can cause damage to environment. Also glaciers are melting consistently because of
climate change and less snow. According to National Snow and Ice Data Center The amount of land

Climate change in the southwest is devastating because it would not only affect the southwest but it
would also affect the world. According to Southwest National Climate Assessment climate change is a
threat to agriculture. This is because The southwest produces more than half of the nations specialty
crops. If the crops are threatend by global changeing then there would be a limited supply of food for
people and wildlife to eat. These crops depend on irrigation, moisture, coldness, and heat, which we
may not have if global changing is continues to happen. Increased warming also increases the chance
of wildfires, which can ruin people s land and agriculture. This also goes along with a limited supply of
food because if wildfires knock out all the feilds that are supplying food for us there wont be enough
food. The southwest is home to 90% of the regions population, with this many people climate change
can affect public health. With this large of a poplulation in the south west it could really out a dent in

My Understanding of Extremism and Domestic Terrorism Essay
My understanding of extremism is that it s a term used to describe the actions or ideologies of
individuals or groups outside the perceived political center of a society; or otherwise claimed to
violate common moral standards. In democratic societies, individuals or groups which advocate that
democracy should be replaced with some kind of authoritarian regime are usually branded extremists.
There have been several terrorist acts committed in the United States of America, not by terrorists that
live in other countries and despise the American ways and ideas, but by our own citizens who live and
work in the United States of America. Domestic terrorism is done by a person or group of persons who

Americans feel that after 911, the sense of patriotism and support for the government should have
been at an all time high. However, strict government reforms and new laws that have tightened and,
what some feel, interfere with some of our freedoms since 911 have drastically upset many of the
extremist groups and militias. Militia members have intense hatred or fear toward the government and
believe that there are federal conspiracies in which the government is planning to disarm its citizens.
Hatred for the government grows out of these faucets as it faces these groups with opposition and
attempts to expose them. Anti government extremists are a large part of the radicals that cause a lot of
the domestic terrorism. They are driven by their strong beliefs and goals and believe that they are
correct in their thinking and the government is wrong. Domestic extremists are driven by internal
factors and pursue a domestic agenda.
Although anti government extremists are a large part of the domestic terrorism group. There are
several other groups that spread their beliefs of hate such as the Aryan Brotherhood, the KKK, the
Black Panthers and outlaw motorcycle groups. Several of these groups plot to kill judges, police
officers and other public officials and attack targets ranging from churches to abortion clinics, and
even build chemical arms. The FBI is the lead agency assigned to investigate domestic terrorism in the

Cons Of Animal Cloning
A. According to Kathleen R. Brooks and Jayson L. Lusk (2011) Animal cloning is a process in which
scientists can copy the genetic or inherited traits of an animal.
1. Clones are like identical twins only born at different times. Similar to in vitro fertilization, cloned
animals begin in a laboratory, but then are born to surrogate mothers.
a) A similar survey by the Pew Initiative on Food and Biotechnology in 2004 reported that about 65%
of consumers had heard about animal cloning.
2. Animal cloning is a problem that many of us unknowingly approve of every day. Hundreds of
innocent animals are dying and suffering due to animal cloning experiments.
Transition: Next, I will be going in depth on the risks/cons of animal cloning.
B. Can I get a show of hands of every one that has heard of the famous sheep that went by the name
Dolly?

Cesar Chavez s Authentic Activist Cesar Chavez
It is important to fight for what is right, like iconic activist Cesar Chavez had done.Chavez, a child of
Mexican American migrant farmers, was born in Arizona in 1927. He co founded the National Farm
Workers Association (NFWA) in 1962 and never stopped fighting for their rights. In 1970, Chavez
successfully pressured powerful grape growers to give farm workers a contract with fair rights, wages,
and respect. Cesar Chavez showed great courage and intelligence in helping the cause and

Cesar Chavez was a child of migrant workers and was born in 1927. He founded the NFWA, and he
never quit fighting for equality. Chavez, a former migrant worker said, I could dramatize it by saying
that I want to bring social justice to farm workers. But the truth is that I went through a lot of hell, and
a lot of people did. If we can even the score a little for the workers then we are doing something.
(Chavez, 2) This means that Chavez never gave up regardless of what he has been through. When
Chavez stated that he went through a lot, this shows that he never quit. Chavez s perseverance helped
the Chicanos get closer to their goal of equal rights. Despite what he had been through, he never
wanted to quit fighting. In addition, Cesar Chavez showed perseverance during a protest march from
Delano to Sacramento. Chavez, who was honored for his great activism, started the march to get the
attention of the country. As noted, during the 300 mile march, Chavez sprained his ankle. When told to
rest, Chavez declined and continued to march. (Viva La Causa, 2010) When Chavez decided to still
walk, it showed how passionate he was for the cause. This implies that Chavez never quit fighting,
even with a hurt ankle. Chavez s perseverance is yet another factor that helped the

Analysis Of The Film Beneath Clouds ( 2002 ) Directed...
Australia s Identity plays an important part in the stereotypes identified in the film Beneath Clouds,
(2002) directed by Ivan Sen presented through violence, racism and a less than adequate education.
Through Drover s Wife (1892) written by Henry Lawson characters are depicted through one mother s
hardships and the way she raises her family in the absence of her husband. Both Beneath Clouds and
Drover s Wife explore Australian identity and what makes it, along with the integral part of any
culture in a diverse way.
Ivan Sen illustrates racism towards the indigenous community previously stereotyped in Australia s
identity. The way Vaughn is poorly treated is most evident in the film and through the use of different
techniques. As an intimidating young Aboriginal male, Vaughn s appearance depicts the character he is
and the way different individuals categorise him. Racism is highly elaborated throughout the film
through the contrast between Vaughn as a dark skinned youth and Lena a half cast, lighter in skin
female explored through racial stereotypes in rural Australia. As scene in the film, Vaughn and Lena
are hitchhiking towards the city, a white older lady drives straight past Vaughn, whereas she stops and
offers Lena a lift. Are you right love. As Vaughn approaches the car a close up shot is used to display
the emotion on the ladies face as she rolls her eyes and drives off. Diegetic music is used in the
background to give the viewers a better insight into the scene

The Seventh Man Argumentative Essay
Argumentative Essay Having a best friend is like having another sibling only you actually get along
with this one. Most of you would probably do anything and everything to making sure that your best
friend is okay, right? In the passage The Seventh Man by Haruki Murakami he tells the story of how
he could have saved his best friend s life but chose not to. Mr. Murakami should very much have to
live with the guilt and sorrow of not saving his friend K. Many people risk their lives everyday to help
citizens out that they barely know. Not everyone sadly can be saved but these people try their best.
Guilt is a very strong emotion to have to live with just ask the soldiers in the passage The Moral Logic
of Survivor Guilt by Nancy Sherman. Those men and women come home after watching close friends
pass away in front of them and feel guilty for still being alive ( Sherman pg. 153). These people don t
have the time or choice to save their buddies like Murakami did. Sometimes, even our neighbors can
save our lives. In the broadcast The Key to Disaster Survival? Friends and Neighbors by Shankar

This statement can be supported depending on what your opinion is. Or perhaps I simply froze,
overcome with fear ( Murakami pg. 139). However, my position is stronger because throughout the
story evidence is shown that Haruki had a choice to save K but ran away to save his own life first. I
told myself to run over to K, grab hold of him, and get out of there. It was the only thing to do. I knew
that the wave was coming and K didn t know. As clearly as I knew what I ought to be doing, I found
myself running the other way running full speed towards the dyke, alone ( Murakami pg. 138).
Murakami had always protected K but this time he left him alone to be vulnerable and in the end

Coyote Clan Kachina Doll Analysis
The sculptures Seated Couple, Vision of Lady Xoc, and Coyote Clan Kachina Doll, each represent
three distinct ancient cultures: the Dogon people of 18th and 19th century Mali, the Mayan culture
between 681 and 725 B.C.E, and the Zuni Pueblo Native American culture during the 19th century.
Each of these carved sculptures symbolizes truths universal to the human condition. The Seated
Couple symbolizes the universal family unit. The Vision of Lady Xoc symbolizes blood sacrifice for
venerated ancestors and preparation of warriors for battle. The Coyote Clan Kachina Doll symbolizes
the power of troublesome spirits.
Figure 1 is an image of the sculpture the Seated Couple produced by the Dogon peoples, dated
between 18th to the early19th century ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The Seated Couple the cylindrical and mostly symmetrical figures not only depict the attributes of the
Dogon family life, but also the pairing of male and female spirits in Dogon mythology and the sexual
duality that Dogon s see as a spiritual component of every individual. (Ezra) The Vision of Lady Xoc
is a portion of the monument to Lady Xoc depicting her power and importance in Yaxchilán society.
The shedding of royal blood was an act of supreme sacrifice to gain the gods favor and thus perpetuate
the cycle of human life. (Kerr) Kachina dolls are used as a teaching device for children to cement the
tribal stories learned in the oral tradition of their tribes. The dolls and the kachina masks worn at
festivals are a reminder to the people of all that each Kachina represents.
Gender Roles are a significant theme in each of these sculptures. The Seated Couple depicts, men and
women working together as a unit, Dogon attitudes toward marriage as a partnership of independent
equals. This balanced duality is also a central tenet of Dogon mythology. ( Figure: Seated Couple )
The Vision of Xoc shows that in royal Maya courts, women filled important civic and religious roles
denied to most women in many Mesoamerican cultures. (Martin and Grube) The Zuni prized those
who were good at both traditional male and female roles and those who produce the crafts of both
genders.

Animal Rights And The Rights Of Animals
For many years now the world has seen controversy over the rights of animals and if they think and
feel like humans do. Many people see animals as mindless creatures or as food, while others think
they have emotions and can feel pain. In other countries animal protection laws are in place that are
strictly enforced and seem to work well with the system. In the United States however; some of the
animal rights laws are considered to be useless and under enforced (Animal Legal Historical Center).
More people today are beginning to see that animals should have rights and should be protected by
laws and regulations (Animal Legal Historical Center). Sadly there are many people residing in the
United States who don t take animal rights or protection laws seriously. These people abuse animals in
many ways, including food industries that disobey the regulations set in place for the slaughter of
animals used for consumption. Luckily for the animals there are people who fight for their rights and
the enforcement of laws called animal rights activists.
The controversy over the rights of animals continues today within the United States. There has always
been a question about the emotions of animals. Can animals feel and exhibit emotions in the same way
that humans do? Some people agree that animals do show signs of intelligence and emotions like love
and pain. After all there are bird breeds who mate with only one partner during their lifespan giving us
the impression

How Did Winthrop s Beliefs Influence The Development Of...
In 1630, John Winthrop formed his ideas for his ideal settlement, City Upon a Hill. He wrote down his
ideas in a document titled A Modell of Christian Charity (Doc 1). In this document, he planned ideas
for a perfect Puritan society. At the start of this settlement, he became the governor of it. These ideas
and values were an important aspect of the political, economic, and social development of the Puritan
society in New England. The most important values were community, religion, and education. These
values that the Puritans upheld in Winthrop s society are responsible for the political, economic, and
social development of the New England colonies from the 1630s to 1660. The town map from the
1600s showed that the town focused on the church ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
New England was known for having more educated people than any other colony, because they valued
religion so much, since the ministers wanted the the knowledge of God to be passed down from
generation to generation, the Puritans created Harvard. They believed that passing the knowledge of
God down would please God.(Doc 4) The Puritans were known for being religiously intolerant; they
only believed in their religion and did not accept any other. This was another social impact of the New
England colonies. Nathaniel Ward believed that if people were religiously tolerant they either doubted
their religion or were insincere about it(Doc 6). Ward believed that religious tolerance could start
conflict throughout New England. He wanted the state and church to be together. Nathaniel Ward s
statement started controversy. Roger Williams completely disagreed with Nathaniel Ward s statement.
Williams believed that religious tolerance was a great thing. (Doc 5) Williams wanted others to see his
way and join him. A woman named Anne Hutchinson questioned the ways of the Puritans. She
disagreed with the Puritan government. She quickly left the New England colony after receiving
backlash from the Puritans. Roger Williams decided to create his own colony called Rhode Island. in

A Reflection On The Lost Palace Of Sparta
A REFLECTION ON MY NEWS STORY
When I googled on the Internet about a news story relating to Classical Studies, I happened to found
an interesting article on The Lost Palace of Sparta Possibly Uncovered in Live Science. My main
reason for choosing this news story was because I have always been interested in Late Bronze Age
Mycenaean
Civilization, since Mycenaean culture appears to be connected with Homer s Iliad s Trojan War.
Secondly, I took a course on Classical Archaeology as an undergraduate student in Classics.
Therefore, I studied the nineteenth century archaeologist Heinrich Schliemann and his excavation of
Agamemnon s palace and his gold mask at Mycenae inspired me very much. For me, the most striking
aspect of my news story was the Linear B tablets found on the site. Ghose (2015) stated that the
inscriptions represented the earliest form of the Greek language. Although the fire baked the tablets,
the fascinating writings on these Linear B tablets discussed clearly the centralized distribution of
goods like wool and grain, noted (Killgrove 2015). These inscriptions on the Linear B tablets give the
readers a history of palatial events in the Mycenaean period.
Yes, I was thinking about doing an article from the Ottawa Citizen about Ancient Menoral Roman
Treasure, but I did not know very much about the Gothic King Alaric. Therefore, I chose The Lost
Palace of Sparta Possibly Uncovered instead, because I have studied Homer s Iliad, Classical
Archaeology,

Interpretation Of Gender Roles In American Music
Music is a human concept, a unique biological interpretation of sound. Because it is human, it is
influenced by other human constructs, such as gender, politics, and race. These influence our
interpretation of a piece and it s individual components.
How exactly do these constructs affect one s interpretation and understanding of music? We know that
different cultures have different roles for their different categorizations and individual roles, and these
give certain associations with different kinds of music, instruments, keys, qualities, pitches, and
timbres.
In our own western culture we can see many examples of this. Higher pitched instruments are
normally effeminate, certain drum rhythms can be associated with military or with rock, country is
predominantly white, and a plagal cadence sounds religious. These ... Show more content on

They are respectively male and female dances, displaying masculine and feminine movements to
highlight each gender.
In reading in depth about this piece, we find the constructs of gender roles, religion, and even age
involved in the gamelan music of Bali. Gaya will affect how women play, age will affect how well one
has learned an instrument or how the dancers might perform, and religion can dictate every aspect of
social norms and expectation in a society, including political systems and laws in a country. Although
simply listening to Mekar Sari is certainly enjoyable, one cannot truly understand the meanings
inherent in a piece until they have understood the music s origins and story.
No matter the culture, music does not exist inside a bubble. In the modern age many cultures are
progressing forward past rigid roles and more freedom for individuals, and with this music is
changing. How the individual culture expect these roles differs between every region and social group,
and as such so does music. To understand music, it is crucial to also understand its

  • 2. My Childhood Memory Roy, Timmy, and I sat on a log near a stream. Roy was the oldest out for all of us, and was more logical in his thinking. He was approaching ten, and was starting to demand respect. Timmy Was a little bit older then me, and was quite disgusting. I was the youngest, and being the only girl, I was often picked on by the older two. My ideas were often consider irrelevant, and because they never listened, we got into more trouble than necessary. I looked up at the trees, when I saw what looked like a car. Hey guys, I said as I stood up from the log, elongating my arm and pointer finger at my discovery. The boys eyes grew in amazement. Is that a car?! Roy asked flabbergasted. Timmy took off running for the car. Hey wait up! I yowled, dashing after him. Timmy was like a monkey clambering up the tree. His movement was eloquent, and he was already forming muscle mass at the age of seven. I climbed up after him, and Roy followed behind. Timmy tried to force the door open. I could see that he was getting frustrated. The door was wedged between the tree. The doors stucked dummy! Roy shouted behind us. I climbed around to the other side of the car, and yanked on the car door. MOVE! Timmy pushed me to the side, almost pushing me to the ground. Timmy yet again failed at opening the door. The car is locked you guys, I said not thinking that I was just make the problem worse. We all scurried down the tree. How do you think the car got up there? I asked, as we ... • 3. Analysis Of The Film Sing Street Finding fulfillment in life requires people to truly understand their reality and is only achieved through an effort to grow out of one s comfort zone. This idea is explored in the film Sing Street, directed by Jim Carney. The film follows the journey of Conor Lawlor, a shy schoolboy who gets moved from a private school into a strict Catholic school due to his parent s financial situation. At Syng Street he is bullied by another student and his principle. A turning point occurs when he falls in love with a mysterious girl. After a desperate attempt to gain her phone number, he starts a band with a group of outcasts from his school. Throughout the film, Carney suggests the idea that to fulfill one s happiness, a person needs to make an effort to take a risk and push beyond their comfort zone, and while doing so they also need to gain a sense of confidence in their identity. It is necessary to grow beyond hindering beliefs to achieve a new perspective on life to lead to happiness. In the beginning, Carney demonstrates that a person who is anchored by demotivating beliefs can ultimately compromise their happiness. This is seen in the establishing shot where Conor is in his room and his parents can be overheard arguing about their mortgage and their distaste for each other. Conor is unable to focus on his romantic lyrics instead he sings their conversation out loud. This scene reveals that Conor is negatively impacted because the only topic that is on his mind is the issue of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 5. Cyber Warfare And Its Effects On The World Boom! The kinetic effect of a two thousand pound GBU 31 military designated MK 84 bomb, possibly with a BLU 109 penetrator on the nose cone with an embedded global positioning system guidance kit provides obvious visible damage somebody, or something, just fractured into smaller pieces. The same is not necessarily the case with bellicose actions in the cyber dimension at least not at first look. Senior leaders as a whole have largely ignored cyber warfare s catastrophic potential due to the initial invisible physical effects and huge costs associated with protecting our systems and information. As our reliance on technology grows as exponentially as the technology improves, more people are finally showing an awareness of the silent boom s threat and its actual fracturing potential, in part due to protagonists like Richard A. Clarke and Robert K. Knake and their continued warn of cyber war s devastating potential for first, second, and tertiary effects. Clarke and Knake use a mixed method research approach in Cyber War to support their hypothesis that offensive prowess is meaningless without solid defense in cyberspace, and that the United States need immediately fix our defensive cyber shortfalls, or face apocalyptic doom. Specifically, the authors define cyber war as actions by a nation state to penetrate another nation s computers or networks for the purposes of causing damage or disruption. This infers that they are really talking about warfare and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. Advantages Of Heat Transfer In heat transfer, there are three modes for the transfer of heat named as Conduction, Convection and Radiation. Every mode has its unique importance in a specific area. Convection heat transfer reflects an advantage as it utilizes the heat transfer by means of a fluid either static or in motion. Convection by means of a stagnant fluid implies Natural convection whereas by means of a fluid in a motion reflects a Forced convection . In a Natural convection flow, buoyancy and density effects are significant for the heat transfer phenomenon. If a hot object is placed in a still air, the layer of air that is in contact with the object is heated and as a result its density decreases. The air surrounding the heated layer of a fluid is cold and of high density. As a result, the less dense air rises upward while the air of high density moves towards a hot object under the buoyancy and density effects. This results in a phenomenon of Convection currents that gives rise to a Natural convection phenomenon as shown in the figure 1. The figure 2 demonstrates the case for the cold object placed in a still air results in an opposite phenomenon. Grashof number (GrL) is a dimensionless number which can be defined as the ratio of buoyancy force to the viscous force that acts on a fluid. It is used for natural convection flow regimes. The simple empirical correlation for the Nusselt number is given by; The value of the constants C and n depends upon the surface geometry as well ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Gas Chromatography Lab Report For this experiment, Gas Chromatography (GC) is utilized to observe the streo and regiochemistry among four elimination products under either basic or acidic conditions. The reagents used in this experiment include primary and secondary alcohols which are in acidic conditions and dehydrobromintion of primary and secondary alkyl halides in basic conditions. When reacted the gas products are collected and undergo further analysis in the GC which will separate the product into its components and will show the different distributions among the product. Theory In an elimination reaction, the reagents in question proceed in either an E1 or E2 reaction mechanism in order to produce an alkene. For this experiment, 1 butanol and 2 butanol, proceeds ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The reaction then proceeds in a deprotonation of a beta hydrogen while that remaining bond is turned into an alkene to remove the carbocation. The products for these reagents are different according to the selectivity of the beta protons. A 1 butene product results from a deprotonation of the terminal methyl group and a cis or trans 2 butene product if the beta hydrogen is removed from the methylene group on the other side of the carbocation. 2 butanol will produce these 3 products above; however, 1 butanol will undergo an unstable primary carbocation which will only result in 1 butene. When observed in the GC it will experimentally result in this specific selectivity for these reactions as well. For the reagents in basic conditions however will react with a strong bulky base (potassium tert butoxide ) which will result in an E2 mechanism with no competition with a substitution mechanism. For this mechanism, 1 bromobutane and 2 bromobutnane, will also result in the 3 products described above, but will proceed in a faster reaction. First the reagent has to rearrange where the beta protons are anti periplanar to the bromine atom. Unlike the E1 mechanism ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Business Essay examples Business Statistics SCMA 1000 Winter 2015 Section 2 Assignment 1 Due Tuesday February 25, 2015 Sampling exercise The purpose of this exercise is to convey some basic concepts in regards to sampling while at the same time deriving sampling distributions empirically. Deriving sampling distributions empirically works best when there are a large number of samples. The idea here is that each student in the class will create 20 samples for two populations, using two different sampling procedures, for a total of 80 samples. These samples will be combined into common datasets which will be used in class (and made available to all students in the class. The four sampling contexts will be: 1. Sampling context 1: Discrete numerical population, sampling without replacement The population The population is comprised of 10 elements, with values from 1 to 10. It a discrete variable in that the variable can only take on integer values. Also it is a uniform distribution in that each value appears once in the population. Below is a graphical representation of the population: Sampling procedure The kinds of samples we are going to generate are called simple random samples but sampling will be done without replacement. Sampling without replacement means that an element is no longer available for selection once it has been selected. In other words, the element is not replaced once selected. The sample size will be 5. Cut out 10 cardboard squares measuring 3 cm x 3 cm Number the squares from 1 through 10. Place cardboard squares in a container. Randomly select 5 squares without replacing the squares (You should have 5 squares in front of you.) This issue causes controversial concerns because the first isolation of the embryo was in 1998, which is still very recent and the policies around it are grey areas. Many countries including the United States of America have removed funding because of issues that have risen due to religious, ethical and legal formalities. In the blastocyst stage the cell is comprised of an external layer called trophoblast and the inner cell mass comprised of approximately thirty cells which following normal procedures becomes the embryo and the trophoblast, the placenta. In the process to cultivate the stem cell, the blastocyst must die as the inner cell mass is removed. • 14. Band Session At The Baked Potato This concert report will go into great detail regarding the performance that I witnessed, as well as the genre of Jazz that was played, the artist, and the techniques that were used. I will start with my personal experience of the concert that I attended. This will focus on the details of the performance, as well as my mindset before and after the show. Next, this paper will research the origins of the genre of Jazz that was played, which is Funk and has been supported by several scholarly sources. Then I will look at the origin of the Jam Session. Finally I will then end with information regarding the performers themselves as well as the history of the venue. For my concert report I went with the members of my group presentation to the weekly jam session at The Baked Potato, located in studio city. We just got done with a long night of studying, it was late, a Monday, and I was tired. This was the first Jazz show that I have ever been to and I didn t know what to expect. I had zero expectations going into this and in the end I m glad I didn t. When we arrived I was immediately surprised at how small the venue was. There was maybe a little more than thirty people in totally and it was a packed house. We took our seats right next to the stage, sitting directly in front of the bassist and lead guitar player. As we ordered our two drink minimum and a couple of baked potatoes to share, I watched as the rest of the band started to step on stage. Some seemed to know each other ... These two sides were called the Allies and Axis Powers. The Axis and Allied Alliances consisted of countries taking sides of each other. There were 3 main countries that formed the Axis Powers. They were Germany, Japan, and Italy. Members of the Axis Powers were Adolf Hitler (Germany), Benito Mussolini (Italy), and Hirohito (Japan). The Axis has quite an interesting history. Starting with the creation of the Axis Powers, it was created in October of 1936 by Germany and Japan. By November they created the Anti Comintern that was against the Soviet Union. In 1939, the Pact of Steel was created between Germany and Italy. This would enable them to be linked with each other. By June 1940, Italy officially made its debut in WWII, by invading France and was later arrested by Allies. Later that year, the Tripartite Pact was created, making Japan officially an Axis. It was also created to convince the U.S to join the Axis Powers. About two months later, Axis gained from the help of Hungary and Romania. In December of 1941 Japan bombed U.S, also known as Bombing of Pearl Harbor, causing U.S to join WWII. In 1943 things started to cool down when Italy surrendered. • 16. Controlling Cell Fate in Zebrafish Over the past years, there have been many conflicting views over weather or not rest has an effect on controlling cell fate. There has been previous studies that have indicated that the rest gene influences gene expression. Researchers at the State University of New York at Stony Brook have taken it upon themselves to determine if it is in fact true. By using methods like zinc finger nuclease and quantitative PCR, they were able to find reliable evidence that: rest in zebrafish does have an influencing affect on neural specific gene expression but it fails to have many significant effects on zebrafish neurogenesis. First of all, lets look at why exactly scientists choose to work on zebrafish. Zebrafish was chosen by George Streisinger who was looking for a vertebrae model system to do work on genetics. It would appear that zebrasfish have some qualities that particularly makes them an exceptional choice for study. They are easy to maintain, manipulate (ability to microinject DNA, RNA and proteins into) and have many offspring rather rapidly. Another really interesting quality of zebrafish is that in the first few days of embryonic development, embryons are transparent, which allows imaging of cell movement and gene expression. Embryos also develop rather quickly; therefore scientists could do testing sooner then would be capable if mammals were used. Now lets look at what exactly is the rest protein. From what research has determined previously, we believe the rest ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 17. Alfred Hitchcock s Motion Picture Psycho Alfred Hitchcock s motion picture Psycho, released in 1960, contains peculiar placement of predatory birds and other fowls with corresponding lines regarding birds from Norman Bates, the primary antagonist. Throughout the movie, various references concerning birds are can be drawn through the use of bird s eye view camera angle, location names, and character names. As the movie begins, the first camera angle used is bird s eye view. Viewers venture, bird like, into Marion Crane s apartment complex where she and her lover, Sam Loomis, are conversing about their desire to get married. Marion s last name, Crane, seems to symbolize her character in a physical way like an actual crane: migratory and defenseless. Like the crane resides in a typically marshy area, Marion s eventual final resting place is in a marshy swamp near the Bates Motel. After Marion steals $40,000 from her employer s client to pay off Sam s debt, she runs away from her home, Phoenix. Like the mythological bird, the city of Phoenix comes to represents Marion s death and rebirth as she leaves her innocent secretarial job behind for a better life with Sam. Although these references to birds are subtle and can remain unnoticed, there are other references in the movie that are entirely noticeable. In this film, the reference to birds in the parlor and the motel room serve as a visual motif for Norman s conflict with his mother, other women, and himself. Peter s supremacy consequently manifested itself to catalyze an era of successful Westernization for St. Petersburg and Russia as a whole. His main goal being to civilize the country was accomplished through extensive changes in both political agendas, as well as cultural ones. Even after Peter passed away in 1925, the city continued to westernize, attracting travelers from all over the European community. One of these travelers was Sir Francis Dashwood. Dashwood was an English politician and Chancellor of the Exchequer, a British Cabinet level position that appointed him as head of Her Majesty s Treasury. Travelling to St. Petersburg on his Grand Tour in 1733, Dashwood was fascinated by daily life in Russia and decided to write a diary to document this fascination. In his diary, he examined refinements to Russo culture, architecture and government through a series of detailed excerpts outlining what he observed on a daily basis in St. Petersburg. Dashwood s diary is exceptionally unique in that there had never before been an account of St. Petersburg during the 1930 s (in English) of St. Petersburg on paper. This meant that when the diary would eventually be published in 1959, it would open a myriad of information to the public, specifically the aristocrats of Western Europe, about St. Petersburg and Russia s Westernization ... A Reflection On The Lost Palace Of Sparta A REFLECTION ON MY NEWS STORY When I googled on the Internet about a news story relating to Classical Studies, I happened to found an interesting article on The Lost Palace of Sparta Possibly Uncovered in Live Science. My main reason for choosing this news story was because I have always been interested in Late Bronze Age Mycenaean Civilization, since Mycenaean culture appears to be connected with Homer s Iliad s Trojan War. Secondly, I took a course on Classical Archaeology as an undergraduate student in Classics. Therefore, I studied the nineteenth century archaeologist Heinrich Schliemann and his excavation of Agamemnon s palace and his gold mask at Mycenae inspired me very much. Although the fire baked the tablets, the fascinating writings on these Linear B tablets discussed clearly the centralized distribution of goods like wool and grain, noted (Killgrove 2015). Because it is human, it is influenced by other human constructs, such as gender, politics, and race. These influence our interpretation of a piece and it s individual components. How exactly do these constructs affect one s interpretation and understanding of music?
