Aluminum Car Research Paper
If you currently own a vehicle that has an aluminum body rather than a body that is made out of
steel, you might like certain things about it, such as the fact that aluminum is a lighter metal that
can help you enjoy better fuel efficiency. However, you might have heard that the maintenance
process of your vehicleis a little different. These are a few tips that can help you maintain the
appearance of your aluminum bodied vehicle.
Keep an Eye on the Paint Job
Minor dents and scratches might not seem like a big deal, but they can cause your vehicle to be
much more prone to corrosion. Therefore, it s important to keep an eye out for any imperfections
that might pop up and to have them repaired as soon as possible. Then, you can ensure that your
vehicle has a good protective paint job to help prevent corrosion.
Park it in a Shelter
Since aluminum isn t quite as durable as steel, your vehicle could be more prone to dents than a
vehicle that is made out of steel. Therefore, you may want to consider parking your car in a garage

However, it s even more important to ask certain questions before taking a vehicle with an
aluminum body to a body repair shop. After all, aluminum is a completely different material to
work with, so you re going to want to find a body repair professional who is accustomed to
working on vehicles like yours. Additionally, specific types of equipment have to be used with
vehicles that have aluminum bodies, and aluminum and steel don t mix. This means that if
equipment that was used on a steel vehicle is used on your vehicle, corrosion can occur. Taking
the time to do your research to find a shop that has a lot of experience in working on vehicles with
aluminum bodies is important. You can also ask questions to find out more about how the people
who run the shop take steps to prevent corrosion from being an

The Basics Of IT Infrastructure For Entrepreneurs
NOTES Introduction IT USE IN BUSINESS Information Technology is inseparable from business
operations and strategy. A survey conducted by the Small Business Administration in 2003 gives
the statistic that 75% of small businesses have heavily invested in computing technology. This is an
important and good trend, because the growth of IT has introduced methods and has facilitated the
implementation of new business models. The traditional view of IT is that it is an enabler of
efficient processing of routine operational activities and some specialized tasks have been
automated. This makes it possible for in entrepreneurs and Small to Medium Size business to gain
tremendous time efficiencies and reduce the need for specialized skills. This development has
allowed SME s streamline operations, improve productivity and enhance their customers experience
before and after sales. IT has permeated every aspect of the business enterprise from planning
strategy, to operations and implementation. The big question is how entrepreneurs align IT and

Letter To Senator Murkowski
Dear Senator Murkowski,

As a Fairbanks, Alaska resident, it is my vision to help our
community, by providing musical opportunities, for our youth and youth with disabilities, through
G R.O.C.K. Studios (Gabriel Reaching Our City s Kids, part of Crown of Glory International
Ministries, Inc.). My dream was always to be a concert pianist, however, my dream shattered, after
a tragic work related accident, disabled my hand. A machine malfunctioned on my hand, which
compressed, cut, and burned me with fire, resulting in fourth degree burns. Furthermore, after seven
surgeries, to save my hand, I was faced, with the terrible news, of amputation of three of my fingers.
This was an extremely traumatic and painful experience for me. Fortunately, by

Robin Hood Greed
In the story Robin Hood, this story is about a character who has many
adventures with his merry men. Robins merry adventures basically came into
detail of how his life was, and who he really was. But like all great stories, they all
come to an end, but we haven #39;t gotten there yet so, that #39;s put on hold. This story
also comes into realization of how Robin Hood gave to the poor, but he also stole
from the rich. How Robin helped people in need in all their problems and even
when they were in greatly debt. Even in the story, he goes through so much to
help people. Hes even an outlaw, but not for the fact that he wants to help
someone, but because of his background story. Long story short, everything the
king owns outside like, the trees or ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Was Robin a man of Christ or just a good doer? I believe Robin Hood was just a
good doer. Robin Hood stole from the rich and gave to the poor. But, that doesn #39;t
make him a Christian at all, at the end of the day he was still stealing from others.
Plus, in my perspective, I think Robin Hood was very materialistic. Materialistic,
this means when someone is very possessive to and highly concerned with
material things usually things like, money. I think this because, whenever Robin
Hood and his merry men had a chance they would go on the roads and wait
somewhere, and when they saw someone rich come near they would basically
invite them to a feast and charge them a fortune. I know, technically that #39;s not
being materialistic but in a way that was a way to get money from people,
basically a loophole you could say to get what you want. Robin Hood even has a

History And Evolution Of The Modern World

Advancement in Western Europe
Progression, Enlightenment, and a sophisticated culture refinement are all factors that can portray
the ideal civilized society. With all these factors in collaboration, we have a civilization, the highest
form of human organization. In an organization, the living biotic creatures are given the ability to
sustain and eventually assemble what they consider to be modern life. In ancient culture,
prehistoric Mesopotamian and Egyptian cultures created what they believed to be a civilization.
Through extensive use of resource and desire to evolve in humanity, both civilizations succeeded in
leaving impact. However, Within Mesopotamian society, the long lasting impact of their inventions
continues to provide a benefit to western civilization. Considering their advanced writing system,
lunar calendar recordation, and revolutionary use of the wheel, Mesopotamia truly stood as a
promising foundation for a lasting civilization.
One of the primary Mesopotamian inventions was in form of writing; this was called Cuneiform.
The Mesopotamian word Cuneiform translates to wedge shaped. The Sumerian writing system used
several thousand characters and some for sounds (Kagan 8). Using writing initially for recording
the dealing of items, writing was beneficial to the development of a system that portrayed a good
understanding of fair transactions. Cuneiform was written

The Main Themes Of Helen By Hilda Doolittle
I chose the poem Helen by Hilda Doolittle because it revolves around the central theme of hate,
which the main character receives from her society as a whole. The poem relates to Medea s
excerpt because both depict how the main characters are despised by their societies. As well, both
emphasize the critical role that gender plays in directing this hate. As a result, they both identify the
same stereotype of women trending in society: women are dangerous. The theme, content, and tone
of the poem and Medea s excerpt make them relatively comparable.
Although both the excerpt and the poem are similar, yet they are distinct from one another. To be
able to indicate to what extent they are similar or contrasting, all elements in the texts, inferred ...

The poem Helen was written in 1924, but its main character, Helen, lives in the same era as
Medea. In 431 B.C., women had no rights, they were isolated from public life, and their main role
in life was to bear children. They were thought of as mischievous and evil. For instance, Semonides
from Samos describes Helen (Zeus daughter) as a plague, which reflects his view on women in
general: Yet, this is the worst plague Zeus has made, and he has bound us to them with a fetter that
cannot be broken. Because of this some have gone to Hades fighting for a woman. This echoes the
society s common stereotype about women: women are to be afraid of; they are to be condemned

Congestion and Traffic Pollution in New York City Essay
Congestion and traffic pollution has been a major problem in New York City for years. There
have been many laws, tolls, and fines implemented over the past few decades to try and fix the
problem. Yet, congestion still exists. Congestion occurs when there is overcrowding on roadways
that s causes traffic jams. There are several reasons for the severity of this issue. Congestion
causes a lot of delays in the city. It is unlikely that people are on time for anything, even if they
planned ahead. With traffic in the city the way it is, you can t blame them. The indirect effect of
congestion is traffic pollution. Traffic pollution is polluting of the environment caused by harmful
toxins and gases given released by cars. The amount of pollution... Show more content on

This pollution increases health risks by introducing people to harmful toxins released by cars,
specifically in the asthmatic population. Hence, one can see the problems associated with traffic
congestion and pollution. There are several ways to counteract the problem of traffic congestion
and pollution. Firstly, the most practical solution to New York Citys congestion problem is to
decrease the number of cars on the road. One plausible way would be to promote and offer
alternative methods of transportation such as buses, subways, and taxis. If people used more
public transportation there would be fewer cars on the road, less congestion, and less traffic
pollution. Another alternative would be to increase toll prices. By increasing tolls on bridges
and tunnels, people would be much less inclined to drive to the city and as a result there would
be less traffic congestion and pollution. Gridlock is a major cause of traffic problems in
Manhattan. If we were to implement more severe fines for blocking intersections, people would
not try to beat the light, in effect decreasing overall congestion. A third approach to try and
resolve this issue would be to change some one way streets to two way streets. Doing this would
allow easier access to destinations and would eliminate indirect route taking. As a result, overall
pollution would decrease. These are some of the methods that would be viable in decreasing

The Pros And Cons Of Resistance
Resistance is a destructive and violent rejection. Resistance is commonly understood as a
rejection to accept and comply with something that causes doing in opposition to the current
events. Resistance movement is an organized effort by some part of people of a country to resist
the legally established government or an occupying power and to disrupt civil order and stability.
I believe in the resistance as I believe there can be no light without shadow; or rather, no shadow
unless there is also light. (149)
Resistance is related to power, and power is possible to understand as relational and multiple in
networks of productive interactions. Resistance is not by itself evil or destructive , as well as not
basically good , progressive or democratic . We have to acknowledge that not only do fascist or
religious fundamentalist resistance exist but are common examples of how people try to undermine
established power relations. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It is also is one of the origins of the resistance movement. Resistance was the rejection of all these
things: the ceasefire, the Armistice and Collaboration. It also became a rejection of the right
wing politics of Vichy, and, most difficult of all, a rejection of the mythic status and popularity
of Petain. It was a battle for the liberation of the country, but it was also a battle for the minds and
hearts of the French people, and many Resisters have said that breaking the hold of Petainism was
the most formidable task in the first two years. After November 1942 it was easier, for in that
month the Germans occupied the whole of France and Petain insisted on staying as head of what
was now quite openly a subservient regime. But sympathy, support, and even adoration, for Petain
lived on. It still exists among a dedicated minority

Often regarded as a leader in the multinational marketing industry, United Colors of Benetton

strayed from traditional marketing techniques to provide customers with an idea of the many issues

Maintaining Luciano Benetton s ability to transform sweaters into messages, shirts into signs, and
jeans into signifiers, the company sought out an artist, not an advertiser who respected the rules of
traditional marketing . Benetton hired Oliviero Toscani, a photographer who has earned
recognition from his edgy photography style. Toscani chose to use print and poster as his media, a
very unusual advertising decision for a clothing company. In addition, because television
advertisements historically have cost retailers up to 62% of their advertising budgets, Benetton
initially refused to promote itself on television. They later agreed to do so only on specific
networks outside of Italy, such as MTV in the U.S.2
At the heart of Toscani s basic advertising and marketing strategy was what he often referred to as a
communications strategy based on the diversity focused slogan integrated into the United Colors of
Benetton Campaigns. With this theme of unification, Toscani chose to transform advertising into
news, paying close attention to current events.2 Because Benetton s clothes were sold around the
world, the expenses incurred to tailor campaigns to specific national markets would have been
enormous. To reduce these high costs, Toscani attempted to bring the world s markets together by
using a single advertisement that would appeal to many cultures, races,

The Importance Of Outsourcing Jobs In America
The Downside of Outsourcing Jobs in America
The number one goal for any company is to be profitable. They must first create a product that is in
demand. After this product is created, other concerns will start to arise such as manufacturing,
distribution, overhead, competition and marketing just to name a few. All of these things lead
down to one thing, money. In order to save money, businesses will look into many options. One of
these is to outsource jobs to foreign countries. Outsourcing jobs can save businesses tremendous
amounts of money but can ultimately hurt the economy here in America.
Companies need to turn a profit in order to continue to stay in business, that s a no brainer. One
way companies are lowering costs is by outsourcing jobs to foreign ... Show more content on

America consumes more than it produces. With the deficit unable to be scaled down and the
current economic activities continue, this will drive more businesses to outsource more jobs in a
vicious circle. Without consumers in America to purchase products, companies will start to look
elsewhere in order to remain in business. This could lead to companies selling more products
overseas in order to continue to remain profitable and placing more strain on the U.S. economy. A
struggling economy will impact real estate since businesses and home owners cannot afford
mortgages.
Outsourcing jobs will directly affect local vacancies in office space and industrial settings.
Without new buildings for new businesses, new construction will decline and possibly for
workers in these fields to search for jobs overseas and again add to the already growing strain on
the U.S. economy. Some smaller businesses such as restaurants and clothing stores rely on bigger
companies to draw in consumers to their locations. These blue collar jobs will begin to decline or
even disappear

Beyond their connection to the affect and narratives constructed by the textual elements, little
unifies the participants that construct and use particular memes. Therefore, each iteration of an
image macro is representative of a particular individual s understanding and identification with the
meme. Jenkins conception of the mode rejects the suggestion that memes can represent particular
viewpoints noting, Deleuze consistently critiques the view of rhetoric as representation precisely
because such accounts presuppose actual subjects who do the representing. However, while memes

The visual elements allow participants to share common experiences or social positions, while
the textual overlays allow the participants to articulate their particular subject position within this
common community. While the form of the Old Economy Steve suggests a crisis in
contemporary American capitalism, the individual iterations convey variation experiences of
the crisis. For many users, the meme allows the ability to express the fact youth are experience
unemployment in a way unknown the prior generation Loses job // finds another one on the

meme tackle issues ranging from outsourcing and the decline of industrial labor, to political
issues like the minimum wage, unions, and social security. However, the ability of users to
place themselves within the meme is most apparent in the plethora of criticisms about the
current state of higher education. While some instances highlight the problems of particular
fields of study got journalism degree // works at daily newspaper, liberal arts degree // gets job
others indict the college experience more generally, when I was in college my summer job paid

higher education to live up to its promise, allowing Millennials to express and identify their
individual struggle with a larger sense of generational identity. The ability to express a feeling of

Analysis Of Famine, Affluence And Morality By Peter Singer
In November 1971, Peter Singer composed his essay Famine, Affluence and Morality in regards to
famine in East Bengal (now East Pakistan). He stated that people were suffering and dying due to
lack of food resources, shelter, clothing, and medical assistance. This and many other factors such
as civil war, and natural disaster have turned approximately nine million people into insolvent
refugees (Singer, 229). Though there seemed to be some institutions and private or public
organizations that were capable of helping the refugees, there were no sufficient funds. Peter Singer
argues that individuals from wealthy countries like the Western World are morally ought to help.
Unfortunately, people have not made any significant response to such situation.... Show more

The example Singer used to illustrate his second principle is the drowning child in a shallow
pond. If a person happened to be walking past by that pond, then that person can easily get
involved to help. In this case, the only risk for that person is to have his clothes muddy (Singer
231). But how can tell that we are morally required to do such act? What if that person who
happens to be walking past by that pond has a very important interview and he cannot risk
having his formal clothes get muddy because there will be no chance that he ll get accepted for
the job? An objection that can be used against this principle is Rahul Kumar s mutual aid # 2
which states that A person must do what is necessary to prevent a significant loss to someone
else when she can do so at much less significant cost to herself (Kumar 299). In one of his
examples, he illustrated Geoff as a world renowned experimental psychologist, who has a
deserved reputation for his skill as a critic (Kumar, 299). Geoff only needs to exert little effort to
read and comment on young psychologists papers. His comments on their papers can radically
improve its quality. In this case, if we apply Singer s second promise then Geoff is obligated to

Dr Pattakos Friendship
In the argument article written by Dr. Alex Pattakos entitled The Meaning of Friendship in a Social
Networked World. He clearly defines his reasons for believing that technology is, in his opinion,
ruining the concept of friendship. One of his main supports is the ancient Greek philosopher,
Aristotle. Other supports include, percentages and personal experience. Together with good
example and persuasive skills, he composes a great article.
Early on it is shown through the use of quotations, that he believes friendships are no longer as
real as they used to be. One of these quotes is from Aristotle states that a real friend is A single
soul, dwelling in two bodies. This example, which is given at the very start of the article, is used
repeatedly to point out the fact friends were originally viewed as people who were so close they
were indistinguishable from one another. Dr. Pattakos uses this quote to use the age old speech
trick of repetition to try and ensure the audience understands that this is his ideal view of a
friendship.
Another method Dr. Pattakos frequently resorts to, is personally reaching out to the reader and
asking them absorbing questions, such as Will it promote ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Pattakos does frequently dip into humor to try and enforce a bridge between them and himself.

speakers know that using a little self deprecating humor is an easy way to open an audience to
you. Another great example of using humor to draw the audience in, is the very last sentence of
his article. The irony of the statement Now would you like to Facebook me? is a final stab at the
topic, as well as a good way to show he was not deathly serious about the topic. This final joke is
most likely meant to keep it as light and conversational as

world who was given a final blow by Parkinson s was the peoples champion, Muhammad Ali. Ali,

Developmental Disabilities
Developmental disabilities include several types of conditions due to impairment in physical,
learning, language, or behavior areas. These conditions usually begin during the developmental
period, may impact daily functioning, and most of the time last throughout a person s lifetime.
Most developmental disabilities begin before a baby is born, but can also happen after birth due to
injury, infection, or other risk factors. It is very important that the mother takes care of herself
during her pregnancy to prevent or reduce the chances for her baby developing a disability. All the
different types of developmental disabilities will be explained and discussed throughout the
research paper.
As previously stated most developmental disabilities are caused by a mix of factors. These factors
include genetics, parental health and behaviors such as smoking and drinking during pregnancy,
complications during birth, or infections the mother might have during the pregnancy or the baby
might have very early in life. For some ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Filmmakers often use pre recorded film or photograph from different sources as archival
footage; such as from other documentaries or black and white film this is usually denoted to
provide some sort of perspective on previous events. Al gore exemplifies an old piece of black
and white film as he reflects on his childhood and him growing up on a tobacco farm. Which is
quite ironic since gore has implemented legislation against carbon emission which smoking has a
contributing factor, although is negligent, merely setting aside the pollution produced in making
cigars and cigarettes. Albert selectively utilizes an edit of a factory in the background producing
smoke and/or pollution. As he is talking about the effect of global warming is having on the earth

onto the industry for being a supposed major factor in the contribution to the co2 emissions. The

Native Americans in the United States and Squanto Essay
Squanto Squanto is a Native American who lived in the early seventeenth century in what is now
the Northeast United States. When the English came to this area of America to settle, they
became very fond of Squanto and used him as a translator due to his unique knowledge of the
English language acquired through an earlier voyage to Europe. Squanto helped the Pilgrims adapt
to their new surroundings by providing them with the knowledge that he and his ancestors used to
survive when they first settled in this area. He became known as a friend to the English and a
spokesman for his Native friends (Johnson p.2). However, in helping the English, Squanto realized

He also acted as an interpreter and a guide to help make the English more comfortable around the
indigenous people (). Without Squanto s help, the Pilgrims would probably have had severe
famine over the next year, and would have lived in constant fear of their indian neighbors (Johnson
p.2); the English could not have survived without the knowledge that Squanto had given them.
However, the friendly side of Squanto is traditionally the only one taught to the American public,
in which he is portrayed as an extremely friendly Native American who devoted much of his time
and effort to helping the European settlers adapt to their newly acquired land. It is true that
Squanto was a great help to the English settlers, however many modern texts, articles, and essays
concerning Squanto neglect to include his betrayal of many Native American tribes in what is
now Connecticut and Long Island(Vine p. 201 ). Many elementary educated students are led to
believe that Squanto simply saved the newcomers from starvation В… and [taught] the Pilgrims
how to survive (David p. 24). This misconception of Squanto is the exact opposite of what many
Natives thought of him(Vine p.201). He became aware of his position with the English and began
to threaten the indians by telling them he would release the plague (Johnson p.2) on them if they
did not do what they were told. He also provided the English with certain secrets that allowed them

Appealing to logos means persuading readers by the use of reasoning, and helps to support
claims or arguments logically. Firstly, she gives an account of happy embarrassment by citing
an expert s points. Happy embarrassment is when people tease each other, and it brings out
slight emotions of hurt and embarrassment. McGonigal says that teasing each other is one of the
fastest and most effective ways to intensify people s positive feelings for each other (McGonigal

emotions at the University of California, and talks about his experiments on the psychological
benefits of teasing. McGonigal provides reliable data or citations from experts, instead of using
only her assertions. The reason she mentions experts is to make readers believe her data are
reliable or credible. If McGonigal had given ambiguous data or only her own experience, readers
would have thought of her arguments as unreliable or doubtful so that they might not easily agree
with her points. Therefore, she uses opinions from various experts to avoid readers becoming
suspicious of her information. While McGonigal mentions Keltner s points, she does not simply

Irrigation In Yumma Essay
Irrigation Throughout Yuma County
Yuma has came a very long way with irrigation. With Yuma being so dry and having sand it was
easy to plant soil and make canals and dams. There has been major challenges, and many successful
achievements for irrigation, with flooding, sediment removings, and building the canals.
Some challenges that Yuma County had with the IrrigationSystem was flooding, the use of water
for crops on farmland, the supply of water for irrigation, and the transfer of water from the canals.
Millions of years the Quechan Indians would depend on the flooding river to fertilize and irrigate
the farmlands crops Companies had formed irrigate lands in the Yuma Valley, but they were not

Some negative effects the Yuma project had were water issues with the Colorado River, the canal

Edelman Leave No Child Behind Summary
People have different interpretations of what success may mean to them. In the article, Leave No
Child Behind by Marian Wright Edelman, the author explains many lessons on the steps to
become successful. According to some, success is measured by social status and wealth. I agree
with Edelman s lessons that there is no free lunch, we should not be afraid of taking risks or being
criticized, and we should never think that life is not worth living.
I agree that there is no such thing as free lunch. I notice there is nothing given to us without a
price tag on it. One time I remembered when I really wanted the new Barney rolling backpack. I
told my mother I wanted it. She told me that I would have to work for it, or else I would not
receive it. There I was, a little 8 year old girl, cleaning around the entire house. Edelman says, Don
t feel entitled to anything you don t sweat and struggle for. I agree with Edelman that if we do not
put hard work and sweat into wanting what we want, then we will not achieve it. In a related
incident, which I ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

there is always going to be another opportunity for me getting a career. Edelman says, Be willing
to stand up for something that matters. I agree that if we do not speak up for ourselves no success
will be offered. In a related experience, one time I had a decision between taking an amazing
opportunity to move to Washington, or just stay home. I chose to leave because I thought moving

Plessy V. Ferguson Case Study
In 1892, the Plessy v. Ferguson case had emerged from a conflict from Louisiana s Separate Car
Act. The law required that railroads have separate but equal accommodations, prohibiting African
American and White passengers from entering besides the one they were assigned to based on
race. Homer Plessy, a seven eighths White and one eighth African American bought a rail travel
ticket in Louisiana for the White car and took a seat. He was later told to move to the African
American car, after refusing to move he was arrested and charged for not complying with the
Separate Car Act. In the U.S. District Court, Judge John H. Ferguson dismissed Plessy s argument
that the act was unconstitutional. The majority who went with Associate Justice Henry Billings
Brown jilted Plessy s arguments that it opposed the Thirteenth and Fourteenth Amendment. The
dissenting opinion was with Associate Judge John Marshall Harlan who said that the court was
neglecting the purpose of the Separate Car Act, which said under the guise of giving equal
accommodation for whites and blacks, to compel the latter to keep to themselves while traveling in
railroad passenger coaches. Plessy was brought before the recorder of the city for preliminary

The Social Structure Of The West
8th century and particular causes that explain why it was by far the most violent and the most
universally significant of these revolutions. The first of the general causes was the social
structure of the West. The feudal regime had been weakened step by step and had already
disappeared in parts of Europe. The increasingly numerous and prosperous elite of wealthy
commoners merchants, manufacturers, and professionals, often called the bourgeoisie aspired to
political power in those countries where it did not already possess it. The peasants, many of
whom owned land, had attained an improved standard of living and education and wanted to get
rid of the last vestiges of feudalism so as to acquire the full rights of landowners and to be free to
increase their holdings. Furthermore, from about 1730, higher standards of living had reduced the
mortality rate among adults considerably. This, together with other factors, had led to an increase
in the population of Europe unprecedented for several centuries: it doubled between 1715 and
1800. For France, which with 26 million inhabitants in 1789 was the most populated country of
Europe, the problem was most acute. Voltaire [Credit: Stock Montage/Hulton Archve/Getty

of new gold mines in Brazil had led to a general rise in prices throughout the West from about 1730,

Similarities Between The Yellow Wallpaper And A Rose For...
In the story, A Yellow Wallpaper the narrator tells her story of her life living with her husband
and she comes off as a distressed, morose wife. In A Rose for Emily Emily is struggling with
keeping a tradition in her family and is also and also distressed. Both women deal with the
struggles of their husbands who do not give them attention or treat them well. They both show
similarities in their qualities of life. In William Faulkner s, A Rose for Emily and Charlotte Perkins
Gilmans The Yellow Wallpaper, both have female characters who have to endure and overcome
struggles of loneliness, isolation, insanity, and depression as the female protagonist.
In A Rose for Emily she grows up with her father who was very controlling over Emily s life. He
controlled all aspects of her life such as any men who were interested in Emily were sent away
by her father. This kept Emily isolated from everyone in the town and she never left her house.
According to Watkins The Structure of A Rose For Emily, The inviolability of Miss Emily s
isolation is maintained in the central division, part three, which no outsider enters her home. In
The Yellow Wallpaper it is shown that the female narrator is desolate and is put in an attic room

Another aspect of diction that Stuff You Should Know utilizes effectively is simplicity, it is
important to keep diction simple and clear in order to create a sense of cohesiveness when
speaking which also allows the listeners to understand the points being made. For instance The
laws governing the regulation of cosmetics have not changed in any way, shape or form (23:45,
episode 1). When one of the hosts were talking the law in terms of cosmetic safety and how it has
been unmodified since a century ago, he uses very simplistic terms in order to keep his points
clear, cohesive and easy to follow from the perspective of the listener. This is important as many
podcasts do not give enough recognition into the importance of keeping your diction simple at
certain points in order to allow the listener to fully understand the point being made.
There were some negative applications of diction throughout some of the episodes, where the
diction was far too simple which lead to vagueness and confusion. For instance I wish I was into
the old mario whatever that one was the big world one (4:43, Episode 2) This is simply confusing
and incohesive in painting a picture in the reader s mind or persuading them to ascertain to a point
being made. The host of the podcast having used overly simplistic terms was a negative utilization
of diction as it distracts the listener from the actual point being made and causes sorts of disruption.
From the listener s perspective, it would

Chinatown ( 1974 ), Falls Under The Category Of Film Noir...
Chinatown Critique Essay The film Chinatown (1974), falls under the category of Film Noir
Style. The film s basis its plot on corruption scandals, which shed light on dark secrets and very
unfortunate events around the Cross Family, Evelyn Cross and her Father and John Cross (John
Huston), who is the center figure of the plot, and a private investigator Jake Gittes (Jack
Nicholson). The central of the plot is a charge of conspiracy of the corruption between,
politicians, Mr. Cross, and the police department corruption, that started in the less hopeless
Chinatown, and now has ramifications in every sphere of L.A city. The history of the plot comes
from a real life event, The 1908 Owned River scandal and the administration of the department of
water during this scandal. The film started with Gitte, hired as a private investigator by a socialite
beauty Faye Dunaway, to investigate her husband Hollis (a chief engineer), played by Darrel
Zwerling. The mise en scene and the film are elaborated and directed by Roman Polansky (director)
and Robert Towne (screenplay). In cinematography, one of the more important elements is the mise
en scene. Due to the fact, that it keeps the audience emotional and psychological involve in the plot.
As can be appreciated in Chinatown (Polansky, 1974), in this plot Polansky utilized several
elements to create in the audience a double crosser twist, through the corruption and immoral
activities portrayed during the film. In general, the motion

The concurring judgment of 2:1 was pronounced by the SC on 20th January, 2012. The decision
has been widely discussed because of interesting point of law and huge revenue involved of Rs.

Government s losing the Vodafone s case, the stand of the Govt. has weakened in other similar
cases. The legal issue related to the interpretation of provisions of section 9 of the Income tax Act,

related to the issue whether any income accrued or arose to Vodafone in India on entering into
agreements between two companies for acquiring controlling interest, which one foreign company

Court has decided the case against the IT Department holding that no tax is leviable in the situation
when the transaction of outright sale happened between two nonresidents of a capital asset outside

BODY PARAGRAPH
1)In long term, caning will affect the children s mental and behaviour of children. According to
neuroimaging evidence, corporal punishment could disturb the brain part that involved emotion
and stress handling. Research with 35,000 participation that being carried out by University of
Manibota found out that there is a big relation between 2% to 7% of mental disorder with corporal
punishment. (Pedersen T, n.d).Corporal punishment provoke aggressive behaviour in children.
This proof is also supported by a statement from Joan Durrant, who is a child clinical psychologist
and professor of family social sciences at the University of Manitoba, based on two decades of
research, that there are a direct relation between aggressions and corporal punishment. (Rochman
B., 2012). As the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Joan Durrant elaborates the effect of corporal punishment to the parent children relationship,
according to him, children that being hit will feel hateful to their parents. (Rochman B, 2012).
Furthermore, children will have social problem while they are growing up. According to the
same two decades research, adolescent that being hit in the age between 6 to 9 years old will be
provoked with antisocial behaviour two years later. (D. Joan, 2012). Children will have a low self
esteem due to they feel they are not worth it thus make they deserve that kind of painful
punishment. Their relationship with their parents will be jeopardized as the pain due to that
punishment will make the children feel

The Book Of Ser Marco Polo
The Book of Ser Marco Polo is a thirteenth century edition that was transcribed by Marco Polo s
cell mate and was later translated by Henry Yule (266). Marco Polo is a son to Nicolo Polo a
trader who entered the city of Cambaluc a center of Chinese civilization in the Yuan period
(266). Marco was subsequently captured and put in prison and this book was created out of the
stories he was telling his cell mate while they were passing time at the Genoese prison (266). By
reading through this book; we can explore more about its content plus citation, its
communication as well as context, and its connection and conclusion (266). The first items the
author portrays in this document are its contents plus citation. In the contents section, the main
ideas depicted are idolatry, innovations, and the superstition (275). For instance, it was narrated
that the people within the society at that time practiced Idolatry. They loved and adore their rule
the Great Khan, to extend that some were calling him lord of lords, but his real name was
Cublay (266).The worshipping of the leader in the society also can be seen during ceremonies
like birthdays that were held at the court. For example, at any court occasion, the leader s table
was elevated above the others and at some point people could drop on their knees to make a
deeper obeisance before him (269).The narrator also indicates that Cathayans were idolaters,
because they posses gods and as regards to their gods, each god had a table

Analysis Of The Postman
Next is Antonio Skarmeta. He was the author of the novel The Postman. He published many
novels, plays and stories, and created a text with Neruda as a character. Allende s rise and fall is
the historical background and he tells the story of the son of a fisherman, Mario Jimenez, who
loves poetry and Neruda s poems. The story tells Mario Jimenez, a fictional postman, who befriends
the real life poet Pablo Neruda. The story begins in 1969, in the little village of Isla Negra, off the
coast of Chile. The Postman was published in 1985. In 1970, Salvador Allendewas the world s first
democrat and Marxist president. He progressed the extensive program of nationalization and
radical social reform. He reigned only for three years and was... Show more content on

Next is Roberto Bolano, a homosexual writer and photographer. He was born in Chile in 1955
but moved to Mexico with his family at the age of 15. He dropped out of school and decided he
would be a poet. In 1973, he was inspired by Salvador Allende s victory in Chile, so he decided to
return to Chile. He ended up arrested and imprisoned for several days, and released only because
two guards remembered him as a former schoolmate and sneaked him out. Then he only stayed
in Chile for a few months and left Chile for the rest of his life. He made his home in Mexico,
Spain and Europe. His work is inseparable between the relationship of life and literature. He
intertwines the danger of life and literature. For example, in the story of Mauricio ( The Eye )
Silva, Mauricio Silva, also known as The Eye, always tried to avoid violence, even at the risk of
being considered a coward, but violence, real violence, is unaboidable... (106); and the story
ended with saying that The Eye was so upset and weeping uncontrollably. The Eye probably
signifies someone who sees things in life. Throughout the story, it depicts Mauricio going through
a lot trials and tribulation. He witnesses and observes sufferings everywhere he trods, from Chile
to Mexico to India to the brothel and Berlin. Injustice and violence seem to be twisted in all
direction and at every turn. For instance, on a trip to India The Eye rescued two young boys,

Calypso In Paul Gilroy s The Republic
Race has played a crucial role in the creation of the diverse plethora of musical genres that London
is famous for. The cultural diversity of London s music arguably dates back to Calypso, which
accompanied those migrating from the Caribbean, and has more recently formed the foundation of
the Black Atlantic . This has led to modern styles including Afrobeats, Bashment and Grime. Yet,
with this popularity and growth has come great controversy; from the government banning
Calypso to the police and the form 696 in contemporary society. Though this adverse attitude may
appear to be a more recent reaction, I will use this paper to argue that the early works of Plato in
The Republic , laid the foundation that these current opposing views are... Show more content on

With these styles of music, which are widespread and can be heard on almost every radio station, it
is evident that race has moulded the variety of genres of music that we listen to in London. I see
Paul Gilroy s reference to The Black Atlantic , which he describes to be a culture (of music) that
is not specifically African, American, Caribbean, or British, but all of these at once , as a perfect
encapsulation of the music that we listen to in this modern society. Although Plato ordered that
music and gymnastic should be preserved and no innovation made , I would argue that the
innovation that we ve made to music has changed the way that we listen for the better. In fact,
music has allowed for this blending of cultures, encouraging more open mindedness with regards
to race in modern day London. On the contrary, I would also argue that these styles of music that
are typically regarded as black styles , are creating a negative stereotype, perpetuating the archetype
associated with black people in London. Take the case of Grime music and the

Tax Law and Accounting Paper
Tax Law and Accounting Paper In today s financial world, preparation and reporting of income
taxes has become one among the other main reasons why individuals and businesses are keeping
and maintain their financial records. However, there has been some controversy between tax laws
and accounting under the General Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP). Simply because IRS
is not always agrees with GAAP s principles and thus creates its own taxlaws. This paper will
discuss the objectives of modern income tax statutes, compare and contrast the GAAS and tax
accounting, and differentiate between tax avoidance and tax evasion.

It is basically a legal process of avoiding paying too much taxes through finding tax loopholes, by
using the existing tax laws at own advantage (Murray, 2008). One example of tax avoidance was
shown by Browning in her article, IRS Aims to Curb Offshore Tax Avoidance Tactic, where she
showing on how internationally trading companies try to avoid taxes by using the transfer
pricing tactics. The transfer pricing tactic stands for companies transferring their income back
overseas by undercharging or overpaying foreign subsidiaries for goods and services (2008, p.
6). While such companies are supposed to calculate those prices as if they were between
independent entities and pay taxes, typically 35 percent, on profits brought back to the United
States (Browning, 2008, p. 6). Other examples of tax avoidance include but not limited to
various tax allowances for education, medical bills, to reduce some amount for each depended,
etc. Tax evasion, on the other hand, is the other side of the tax avoidance and is considered to be
a crime. It is a willfully attempt to evade or defeat the payment of federal income taxes (Lectric
Law, 2008). The tax evasion involves failing to report an income, or improperly failing
deductions which are not authorized by the IRS. Stark (2008), provides some examples of tax
evasion. First example includes sales tax evasion, when a retailer offers to let a customer pay cash

Narrative Essay On Sports Injury
Growing up in Middle Georgia, sports were played year around. There was never a down time,
especially in the Thompson household. I was constantly playing a sport. Injuries were bound to
happen, some worse than others. During my athletic career, two injuries were worse than others. I
grew up less than three miles away from the Warner Robins American Little League. This is where
I started my passion for baseball. Every spring, my dad would sign me up to play. At the end of the
season, the coaches would pick the best players to play on the All Star team. The All Star team
would compete against local teams in our District. If you win districts, you would compete for the
State Championship, then the Southeast Region Championship. If you win the... Show more content

On our days off between games, we would have two a days. We would have practice in the
mornings and in the afternoon. During one of those practices, I was going through fielding
workouts. As we were practicing, I misread a line drive that hit my middle finger on my right hand.
The impact fractured my finger. The fractured finger ruled me out for the rest of the District
tournament, the State tournament, and the Region tournament. Fortunately, our team went
undefeated in each tournament to send us to the Little League World Series in Williamsport,
Pennsylvania. The second injury was much worse in nature. During the fall of 2014, I was a
sophomore at Perry High School. I was the starting tight end on the varsity football team. On
October 17, 2014 we played a cross city rival Veterans High School. At the time, we were
competing for a playoff spot.
Around five minutes left in the 2nd Quarter, I ran a slant route to the middle of the field. My dad
recalls me getting hit, head to head with the linebacker. I remember picking my helmet and
running to the sidelines. My head was killing me. I sat on the bench with trainers around me. I
went through a few tests and they diagnosed me with a mild concussion. After talking to my
family, we agreed that my football career was

Horatian Satire
Satire first came to life during the Greek and Roman period, the word itself has been derived
from satura a term used by satyrs to define the comical verses they recite that mock and entertain
the audience at the same time. One of the first recognized style in satire is the Horatian Satire,
which is named after the Roman playwright Horace during the 35 BC. Its feature and satirical
element leans more onto a humorous and light hearted side, as the story s aim is to provide
entertainment to the audience or reader. Horatian satires use of humorprovides its critique mostly on
societal norms and pre conceived notions, As such then, the objective of Horatian satire is to be
clever and knowing, whilst evoking humor by exposing the peculiarities... Show more content on

Satire was put into another medium wherein people see satire now as eye catching because of its
visual representation rather than look for it in novels or critical essays. As satire has been used
even in comic strips currently, it justifies Lebouf s statement, The genre shows no signs of
stopping, or even slowing down (22). Quintero s Understanding Satire analyzes the workings of
the genre. He evaluates the interaction between the work and the reader needed in order to fully
grasp the essence of satire, satirists must ultimately rely on audiences to share a common ground
of reason and, as far as literary satire is concerned, of belief (5). Verifying further the study s claim
of TRESE as a reformation of komik for its application of Menippean satire, Quintero states that the
satirist employ fiction in reaching the truth without forming misrepresentation, its goal of a re
formation of thought makes the readers to abide to the work s context affecting their own
perspective as well, Through an aggressive strategy of distortion or defamation that demands our
critical judgment, the satirist seeks to affect our attitude or perspective

Hammond B-3 Analysis
The Hammond B 3 makes no differentiation between the genres because the instrument can be
heard in just about a little bit of every style. The Allman Brothers who are categorized as
Southern Rock cover the music of Billy Eckstine to the Chicago Delta Blues of Muddy Waters
with Gregg Allman playing a Hammond B 3 on a bunch tracks. In the sound of the Memphis soul
group Booker T. and the MGs, Booker is considered one of the best B 3 players I ve read about
from various Gospel, Soul, and Funk critics. Also, the Hammond B 3 can be heard being played by
Owen Bradley on a few tracks who is known for the Nashville sound. Even Ray Charles has an
album, Jazz+ Soul = Genius, which includes several jazz standards he plays entirely on the B 3.
The list is nearly endless and continues with a variety of musical styles including Gospel, Funk, R

Backtesting Var Models
Backtesting VaR models: Quantitative and Qualitative Tests Carlos Blanco and Maksim Oks This
is the first article in a two part series analyzing the accuracy of risk measurement models. In this
first article, we will present an overview of backtesting methods and point out the importance of
conducting regular backtests on the risk models being used. In the second article, we will present
an alternative to measuring VaR using a top down or macro approach as a complementary tool to
traditional risk methodologies. Should risk models be accurate? Firms that use VaR as a risk
disclosure or risk management tool are facing growing pressure from internal and external parties
such as senior management, regulators, auditors, investors,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

It is always better to be approximately right than exactly wrong. Determining the accuracy of
VaR models How can we assess the accuracy and performance of a VaR model? To answer this
question, we first need to define what we mean by accuracy. By accuracy, we could mean: How
well does the model measure a particular percentile of or the entire profit and loss distribution?
How well does the model predict the size and frequency of losses? Many standard backtests of
VaR models compare the actual portfolio losses for a given horizon vs. the estimated VaR
numbers. In its simplest form, the backtesting procedure consists of calculating the number or
percentage of times that the actual portfolio returns fall outside the VaR estimate, and comparing
that number to the confidence level used. For example, if the confidence level were 95%, we
would expect portfolio returns to exceed the VaR numbers on about 5% of the days. Backtesting
can be as much an art as a science. It is important to incorporate rigorous statistical tests with other
visual and qualitative ones. Simple Backtesting: VaR

Evaluation Of A Tabu Search Generator Based Memory...
Casertaa and Uribe [46] proposed a Tabu Search (TS) based memory mechanism for problem
solving. It was capable of navigating both local information and in formation from search space.
They took tabu tenure as the performance measuring metrics. The efficiency of this algorithm
was verified by testing four benchmark problems using problem solving software. The results
showed that TS produced globally optimal solution in CPU time less than 0.1 seconds. Further
they have generated large random instances for testing and get optimal solutions using branch
and cut solver on them. Conclusions were drawn that proposed method was able to solve
problems having 1300 binary variables in 3 CPU seconds, but branch and cut solver takes 2500
CPU seconds. For larger problems having 2300 binary variables, optimal solution could not be
obtained using branch and cut solver, but nearly optimal solution was obtained using TS with dual
gap of 13%. So it was suggested that TS was able to solve software reliability problems efficiently.
Daz et al. [47] derived a Tabu SearchGenerator (TSGen) for automatic structural software testing
with intensified and diversified search to attain high branch coverage. It also uses memory
mechanisms and backtracking to escape

In all toil there is profit waiting, but mere talk tends only to lead to poverty. When pupils must
toil to accomplish there goals, they will be better able to assert the principles they have studied.
The assiduous student should be able to prize the knowledge gained in the class with a good
grade. As a fetter fastens hands together, so should the professor fasten wisdom in his student s
mind. Liberally signing diplomas will profit students by no means.A surgeon with a participation
diploma is no more dangerous than an uncertified person doing surgery. For what does it profit a
student to gain a degree yet forfeit his self esteem, understanding he is not fit for the job?
In America there is a dream that no other nation has the American dream. Dr. Benjamin Franklin
well notes, The Constitution only guarantees you the right to pursue happiness. You have to catch
it for yourself. The hand of the diligent pupil will rule, while the slothful pupil will be put to hard

slack hand to labor leads to poverty, the hand of the diligent makes himself rich. Students must be

As a Fairbanks, Alaska resident, it is my vision to help our community, by providing musical opportunities, for our youth and youth with disabilities, through G R.O.C.K. My dream was always to be a concert pianist, however, my dream shattered, after a tragic work related accident, disabled my hand. A machine malfunctioned on my hand, which compressed, cut, and burned me with fire, resulting in fourth degree burns. Robins merry adventures basically came into detail of how his life was, and who he really was. But like all great stories, they all come to an end, but we haven #39;t gotten there yet so, that #39;s put on hold. This story also comes into realization of how Robin Hood gave to the poor, but he also stole from the rich. How Robin helped people in need in all their problems and even when they were in greatly debt. Even in the story, he goes through so much to help people. Hes even an outlaw, but not for the fact that he wants to help someone, but because of his background story. Long story short, everything the king owns outside like, the trees or ... But, that doesn #39;t make him a Christian at all, at the end of the day he was still stealing from others. Plus, in my perspective, I think Robin Hood was very materialistic. Materialistic, this means when someone is very possessive to and highly concerned with material things usually things like, money. I think this because, whenever Robin Hood and his merry men had a chance they would go on the roads and wait somewhere, and when they saw someone rich come near they would basically invite them to a feast and charge them a fortune. I know, technically that #39;s not being materialistic but in a way that was a way to get money from people, basically a loophole you could say to get what you want. Robin Hood even has a

  • 7. History And Evolution Of The Modern World Greg Marinos Western History to 1660 Dr. Smith 2/12/15 Advancement in Western Europe Progression, Enlightenment, and a sophisticated culture refinement are all factors that can portray the ideal civilized society. With all these factors in collaboration, we have a civilization, the highest form of human organization. In an organization, the living biotic creatures are given the ability to sustain and eventually assemble what they consider to be modern life. In ancient culture, prehistoric Mesopotamian and Egyptian cultures created what they believed to be a civilization. Through extensive use of resource and desire to evolve in humanity, both civilizations succeeded in leaving impact. However, Within Mesopotamian society, the long lasting impact of their inventions continues to provide a benefit to western civilization. Considering their advanced writing system, lunar calendar recordation, and revolutionary use of the wheel, Mesopotamia truly stood as a promising foundation for a lasting civilization. One of the primary Mesopotamian inventions was in form of writing; this was called Cuneiform. The Mesopotamian word Cuneiform translates to wedge shaped. The Sumerian writing system used several thousand characters and some for sounds (Kagan 8). • 8. The Main Themes Of Helen By Hilda Doolittle I chose the poem Helen by Hilda Doolittle because it revolves around the central theme of hate, which the main character receives from her society as a whole. The poem relates to Medea s excerpt because both depict how the main characters are despised by their societies. As well, both emphasize the critical role that gender plays in directing this hate. As a result, they both identify the same stereotype of women trending in society: women are dangerous. The theme, content, and tone of the poem and Medea s excerpt make them relatively comparable. Although both the excerpt and the poem are similar, yet they are distinct from one another. In 431 B.C., women had no rights, they were isolated from public life, and their main role in life was to bear children. They were thought of as mischievous and evil. For instance, Semonides from Samos describes Helen (Zeus daughter) as a plague, which reflects his view on women in general: Yet, this is the worst plague Zeus has made, and he has bound us to them with a fetter that cannot be broken. • 9. Congestion and Traffic Pollution in New York City Essay Congestion and traffic pollution has been a major problem in New York City for years. There have been many laws, tolls, and fines implemented over the past few decades to try and fix the problem. Yet, congestion still exists. Congestion occurs when there is overcrowding on roadways that s causes traffic jams. There are several reasons for the severity of this issue. Congestion causes a lot of delays in the city. It is unlikely that people are on time for anything, even if they planned ahead. With traffic in the city the way it is, you can t blame them. The indirect effect of congestion is traffic pollution. Traffic pollution is polluting of the environment caused by harmful toxins and gases given released by cars. The amount of pollution... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This pollution increases health risks by introducing people to harmful toxins released by cars, specifically in the asthmatic population. Hence, one can see the problems associated with traffic congestion and pollution. There are several ways to counteract the problem of traffic congestion and pollution. Firstly, the most practical solution to New York Citys congestion problem is to decrease the number of cars on the road. One plausible way would be to promote and offer alternative methods of transportation such as buses, subways, and taxis. If people used more public transportation there would be fewer cars on the road, less congestion, and less traffic pollution. Another alternative would be to increase toll prices. By increasing tolls on bridges and tunnels, people would be much less inclined to drive to the city and as a result there would be less traffic congestion and pollution. Gridlock is a major cause of traffic problems in Manhattan. If we were to implement more severe fines for blocking intersections, people would not try to beat the light, in effect decreasing overall congestion. A third approach to try and resolve this issue would be to change some one way streets to two way streets. Doing this would allow easier access to destinations and would eliminate indirect route taking. As a result, overall pollution would decrease. These are some of the methods that would be viable in decreasing ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 10. The Pros And Cons Of Resistance Resistance is a destructive and violent rejection. Resistance is commonly understood as a rejection to accept and comply with something that causes doing in opposition to the current events. Resistance movement is an organized effort by some part of people of a country to resist the legally established government or an occupying power and to disrupt civil order and stability. I believe in the resistance as I believe there can be no light without shadow; or rather, no shadow unless there is also light. (149) Resistance is related to power, and power is possible to understand as relational and multiple in networks of productive interactions. It also became a rejection of the right wing politics of Vichy, and, most difficult of all, a rejection of the mythic status and popularity of Petain. It was a battle for the liberation of the country, but it was also a battle for the minds and hearts of the French people, and many Resisters have said that breaking the hold of Petainism was the most formidable task in the first two years. After November 1942 it was easier, for in that month the Germans occupied the whole of France and Petain insisted on staying as head of what was now quite openly a subservient regime. Maintaining Luciano Benetton s ability to transform sweaters into messages, shirts into signs, and jeans into signifiers, the company sought out an artist, not an advertiser who respected the rules of traditional marketing . Benetton hired Oliviero Toscani, a photographer who has earned recognition from his edgy photography style. Toscani chose to use print and poster as his media, a very unusual advertising decision for a clothing company. In addition, because television advertisements historically have cost retailers up to 62% of their advertising budgets, Benetton initially refused to promote itself on television. They later agreed to do so only on specific networks outside of Italy, such as MTV in the U.S.2 At the heart of Toscani s basic advertising and marketing strategy was what he often referred to as a communications strategy based on the diversity focused slogan integrated into the United Colors of Benetton Campaigns. With this theme of unification, Toscani chose to transform advertising into news, paying close attention to current events.2 Because Benetton s clothes were sold around the world, the expenses incurred to tailor campaigns to specific national markets would have been enormous. To reduce these high costs, Toscani attempted to bring the world s markets together by using a single advertisement that would appeal to many cultures, races, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 15. Analysis Of Famine, Affluence And Morality By Peter Singer In November 1971, Peter Singer composed his essay Famine, Affluence and Morality in regards to famine in East Bengal (now East Pakistan). He stated that people were suffering and dying due to lack of food resources, shelter, clothing, and medical assistance. This and many other factors such as civil war, and natural disaster have turned approximately nine million people into insolvent refugees (Singer, 229). Though there seemed to be some institutions and private or public organizations that were capable of helping the refugees, there were no sufficient funds. Peter Singer argues that individuals from wealthy countries like the Western World are morally ought to help. Unfortunately, people have not made any significant response to such situation.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The example Singer used to illustrate his second principle is the drowning child in a shallow pond. If a person happened to be walking past by that pond, then that person can easily get involved to help. In this case, the only risk for that person is to have his clothes muddy (Singer 231). But how can tell that we are morally required to do such act? What if that person who happens to be walking past by that pond has a very important interview and he cannot risk having his formal clothes get muddy because there will be no chance that he ll get accepted for the job? An objection that can be used against this principle is Rahul Kumar s mutual aid # 2 which states that A person must do what is necessary to prevent a significant loss to someone else when she can do so at much less significant cost to herself (Kumar 299). In one of his examples, he illustrated Geoff as a world renowned experimental psychologist, who has a deserved reputation for his skill as a critic (Kumar, 299). He clearly defines his reasons for believing that technology is, in his opinion, ruining the concept of friendship. One of his main supports is the ancient Greek philosopher, Aristotle. Other supports include, percentages and personal experience. Together with good example and persuasive skills, he composes a great article. Early on it is shown through the use of quotations, that he believes friendships are no longer as real as they used to be. One of these quotes is from Aristotle states that a real friend is A single soul, dwelling in two bodies. This example, which is given at the very start of the article, is used repeatedly to point out the fact friends were originally viewed as people who were so close they were indistinguishable from one another. Dr. Pattakos uses this quote to use the age old speech trick of repetition to try and ensure the audience understands that this is his ideal view of a friendship. • 32. The Social Structure Of The West 8th century and particular causes that explain why it was by far the most violent and the most universally significant of these revolutions. The first of the general causes was the social structure of the West. The feudal regime had been weakened step by step and had already disappeared in parts of Europe. The increasingly numerous and prosperous elite of wealthy commoners merchants, manufacturers, and professionals, often called the bourgeoisie aspired to political power in those countries where it did not already possess it. The peasants, many of whom owned land, had attained an improved standard of living and education and wanted to get rid of the last vestiges of feudalism so as to acquire the full rights of landowners and to be free to increase their holdings. Furthermore, from about 1730, higher standards of living had reduced the mortality rate among adults considerably. This, together with other factors, had led to an increase in the population of Europe unprecedented for several centuries: it doubled between 1715 and 1800. For France, which with 26 million inhabitants in 1789 was the most populated country of Europe, the problem was most acute. Voltaire [Credit: Stock Montage/Hulton Archve/Getty Images]A larger population created a greater demand for food and consumer goods. He controlled all aspects of her life such as any men who were interested in Emily were sent away by her father. This kept Emily isolated from everyone in the town and she never left her house. According to Watkins The Structure of A Rose For Emily, The inviolability of Miss Emily s isolation is maintained in the central division, part three, which no outsider enters her home. In The Yellow Wallpaper it is shown that the female narrator is desolate and is put in an attic room away from everyone. It is also revealed that she is not treated fairly or well taken care of when her husband who is a physician does not help her get better. When one of the hosts were talking the law in terms of cosmetic safety and how it has been unmodified since a century ago, he uses very simplistic terms in order to keep his points clear, cohesive and easy to follow from the perspective of the listener. The film s basis its plot on corruption scandals, which shed light on dark secrets and very unfortunate events around the Cross Family, Evelyn Cross and her Father and John Cross (John Huston), who is the center figure of the plot, and a private investigator Jake Gittes (Jack Nicholson). The central of the plot is a charge of conspiracy of the corruption between, politicians, Mr. Cross, and the police department corruption, that started in the less hopeless Chinatown, and now has ramifications in every sphere of L.A city. The history of the plot comes from a real life event, The 1908 Owned River scandal and the administration of the department of water during this scandal. The film started with Gitte, hired as a private investigator by a socialite beauty Faye Dunaway, to investigate her husband Hollis (a chief engineer), played by Darrel Zwerling. The mise en scene and the film are elaborated and directed by Roman Polansky (director) and Robert Towne (screenplay). In cinematography, one of the more important elements is the mise en scene. Due to the fact, that it keeps the audience emotional and psychological involve in the plot. As can be appreciated in Chinatown (Polansky, 1974), in this plot Polansky utilized several elements to create in the audience a double crosser twist, through the corruption and immoral activities portrayed during the film. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It is always better to be approximately right than exactly wrong. Determining the accuracy of VaR models How can we assess the accuracy and performance of a VaR model? To answer this question, we first need to define what we mean by accuracy. By accuracy, we could mean: How well does the model measure a particular percentile of or the entire profit and loss distribution? How well does the model predict the size and frequency of losses? Many standard backtests of VaR models compare the actual portfolio losses for a given horizon vs. the estimated VaR numbers. In its simplest form, the backtesting procedure consists of calculating the number or percentage of times that the actual portfolio returns fall outside the VaR estimate, and comparing that number to the confidence level used. For example, if the confidence level were 95%, we would expect portfolio returns to exceed the VaR numbers on about 5% of the days. Backtesting can be as much an art as a science. It was capable of navigating both local information and in formation from search space. They took tabu tenure as the performance measuring metrics. The efficiency of this algorithm was verified by testing four benchmark problems using problem solving software. The results showed that TS produced globally optimal solution in CPU time less than 0.1 seconds. Further they have generated large random instances for testing and get optimal solutions using branch and cut solver on them. Conclusions were drawn that proposed method was able to solve problems having 1300 binary variables in 3 CPU seconds, but branch and cut solver takes 2500 CPU seconds. For larger problems having 2300 binary variables, optimal solution could not be obtained using branch and cut solver, but nearly optimal solution was obtained using TS with dual gap of 13%.
