Running head: PSYCHOLOGICAL DISORDERS PRESENTATION Psychological Disorders
Presentation Debra Baker University of Phoenix Introduction to Behavioral Science BEH/225
Katherine Malish June 23, 2010 Psychological Disorders Presentation For many millennia
psychological disorders, also called mental disorders have been misunderstood. Used to, people
suffering from such disorders were thought to be demonically possessed or they were accused of
being a witch. Many of these unfortunate people were burned, tortured, or locked up away from
society, which was torturous in itself due to the deprivation of life sustaining necessities such as
food and air that patients were forced to endure (Morris and Maisto, 2002). Since... Show more

Treatment of schizophrenic disorders involves taking drugs that are meant to decrease
dopamine amounts in the brain and to block dopamine receptors (Morris and Maisto, 2002).
Personality disorders are characteristic of a person s inability to adapt or be flexible to their
environment through their way of thinking and behavior. People with personality disorders
include unconventional people, as well as people who kill in cold blood serial killers for
example (Morris and Maisto, 2002). A type of personality disorder is paranoid personality
disorder for which the person suffering from this cannot trust anyone and is highly suspicious all
the time. Most people with this disorder believe themselves to be sensible and objective, but in
reality they are argumentative, devious, secretive, and unable to take the blame for their wrong
doing (Morris and Maisto, 2002). Personality disorders are thought to be aided by family, as well
as community influences. For example, a child who feels rejected or unwanted by a family
member(s) will act out, taking his or her aggressions out in an unacceptable manner such as defying
rules and regulations at school or within the community (Morris and Maisto, 2002). Sexual
disorders are classified into three main groups paraphilias, sexual dysfunction, and gender identity
disorders. Paraphilias disorder is the need to use unconventional objects to achieve sexual arousal.

The Impact Of Australian Foreign Policy On The...
Australian foreign policy has undoubtedly been subject to vast changes over the past century,
particularly as a response to the increasing role Asia has played in shaping the contemporary
global market. Having identified the importance of multilateralism and regionalism, policy
continue to be increasingly focused on our geographical position as part of the Asia Pacific region,
and the relationships with our immediate neighbours, as a means to better achieve stability. The
word stability in this context does not simply refer one single aspect, but rather encompasses
several different areas which are equally important if we are to continue advancing our country in
both a domestic and international sense. There are several key areas of policy... Show more content

The 1997 Asian financial crisis reinforced Australias growing economic interdependence within
Asia, evident through the assistance given to Indonesia, Thailand, and South Korea to help re
establish their economies. Regional dynamics largely shifted as a result, contributing to the demise
of the Indonesia Suharto administration, and its subsequent transition to democracy. As Indonesia
develops itself as a democratic country, there have been more opportunities for the traditionally
different nations of Indonesia and Australia to intertwine, seeing an increase in regional policy and
greater collaboration on issues of mutual importance.
As Indonesian society continues to transform, so has the national interest in global politics. This
has seen an increase in regional and global affairs, triggering a growth in environmental activism,
and a greater awareness for implementation of crime prevention and migration strategies. Indonesia
has strongly supported the inclusion of Australia in the East Asia Summit (EAS), a conference
which examines economic, political, security and environmental issues within the region.
Conversely, Indonesian society has benefitted from its increasing ties with Australia, allowing it to
better develop a relationship with the United States (a close and powerful ally of Australia).

The Dystopian Society of Oceania in the Novel 1984 by...
Power over the mind and power over the past are both necessary to ensure power over the
population. Both language and power are crucial to controlling the population and since
language has the power in politics to mask the truth and mislead the public, one could use them
both to increase public awareness of this power. In the dystopian society of Oceania in George
Orwell s novel 1984, Orwell gives readers a glimpse at how power and language relationship can
be used to gain control of the public. In order to display one s dominance, power is the key
factor that should be displayed to gain control over the public. In the novel The Party has the
power and control over the population. The Party promulgates the idea that whatever
government is in power has the power to control everything that is, that was, and everything that
ever will be. The Party seems to be imposing a tension between two different types of discourse,
or two different attitudes to the uses of language through which the world is represented to the
people of Oceania. Their slogan Who controls the past controls the future; who controls the
present controls the past, is a prime example of how they use language to control the population
(p.37). The Party use slogans such as big brother is watching to ensure that there is no deviation
from Big Brother s doctrine. This also gives the party a sort of god like power because it seems as
though they are always watching and will always know when someone sins. One

Valjean And Javert
Throughout the entire musical, Javert has never wavered from the law. He thinks the law is just
and right and there is no mercy for those who break the law. Javert only sees right and wrong, he
has no sympathy for convicts and does what he must to remain just. Javert believes that he is
doing the will of God by justifying his actions to what he believes is right. Javert dedicates
himself to find Valjean and imprison him yet again. He is conflicted because Jean Valjean let
him go free when he had the chance to kill him and Javert thinks that there is no room on this
world for the both it is either Valjean or Javert. Jean Valjean is a bad person according to the law
but he is doing it for the right reason, to help his sister s son. Valjean goes through a lot of
turmoil to maintain the façade that he must stay a free man. He is always on the run therefore
making it hard for Javert to find him. Valjean always finds a way to escape the deathly grasp of
Javert; he never goes back prison. He dedicates his life to the safety and protection of his dearly
beloved daughter, Cossette. Each person justifies how they act based on what they believe in.
Javert is the law. He has always followed the law and he always will. There is no question to him

worth living. Imagine if we were never given a second chance at something, no do overs, no

College Cost In College
The author talks about college cost, and the effect it has on students and on how times it takes
longer to graduate. This is an important topic because college cost has been a problem for many
individuals for decades and it still is. College cost is something that shapes people s lives and it
worries them because collegecost is what determines if they re going to continue going to college.
It s something that people should take lightly because college is pretty expensive. According to the
advocacy group complete college America, it cost 63,718 for one extra year to attend college. For
students who take longer to finish schoolbecause of certain requisites, it becomes a toll because of
the cost. According to Norton Field Guide to writing by Richard Bullock and Maureen Daly
Goggin found a report on Los Angeles bases campaigns for college opportunity, saying students
who attend school 6 years instead of 4 years will lose 110,900 dollars in their lifetime. Many
people in the work field and colleges expect students to attend school for four years. According to
the NFGW, nearly nine out of 10 freshmen think they will earn their bachelor degree within the
traditional four years. Yet In the NFGW quotes the U.S Department of Educationand they report that
about 45 percent won t have finished.
I have encountered many people who have mentioned that college is very expensive and that it has
been a big factor on whether they would continue their education. People can take a break

Biological Determinism And Social And Economic Differences...
Question 1. Biological determinism as stated by Gould, states that shared behavioral norms, and
the social and economic differences between human groups primarily races, classes, and sexes
arise from inherited, inborn distinctions and that society, in this sense, is an accurate reflection
of biology (Gould, p.52). He explains this idea further through his explanation of how biological
determinism can be measured or assigned based on the craniometry, which is the size of the
skull, for at the time it was believed that the larger the skull, the more intelligent that individual
was. This explanation became one of the earliest works connected to scientific racism. Gould,
believed that during this time many scientists used their own prejudices, and bias s when
concluding their research, such as the work of French anthropologist, Paul Broca, who stated that
the small brains of women concluded that men were to be regarded as more intelligent, as well
as, above women, however, although women did prove this prejudice to be wrong with their
talents and their diplomas , they were still opposed by numbers (Gould, p. 58). Biological
determinism is, in its essence, a theory of limits for it states that people who are at the bottom are
basically biologically inferior, which is reflected in their social status (Gould, p. 60). Both Darwin
and Mendel contributed to biological determinism and scientific racism, is that both opened the
doors to new anthropological scientific

Comparison Of Bernard Shaw And John Bulls Other Island
During the period of Bernard Shaw and John Bulls Other Island furthermore, John Millington
Synge and the Congested District essays it has been observed that both writers made an effort to
include a real Ireland , an Ireland seen during the first decade of the twentieth century and a
progression of Ireland, how Ireland would come to be known. Through further examination we
are able to not only prove that this style of writing was seen in both of their works, but also
provide some reasoning into why it was seen. John Bulls Other Island is a playwright written by
Bernard Shaw in 1904. In order to put the playwright into context I believe that it is necessary to
have a brief understanding of Shaw s character and background. Shaw was born... Show more

Uneducated Irishmen like Haffigan, Doran and Corney Doyle have the plans to take large loans
from Broadbent with the likelihood to spend it unwisely due to greed, which will lead to
Broadbent seizing in the future. The people of Ireland are oblivious to the English s strategy
with the exception of the well educated, well traveled ex pastor, Peter Keegan, who is not
phased from Broadbent s tactics. Shaw first establishes the current state of Ireland by
demonstrating the takeover by foreign capitalistic interest. Shaw, a socialist, allows Peter
Keegan to address the readers of Capitalism and its true power of manipulation. Through the
voice of Broadbent that represented the Ireland that was believed existed, while through Mr.
Keegan that was Shaw s resemblance of the Ireland that needed to exist. John Millington Synge
took a different approach with his writings. Unlike John Bulls Other Island Synge made a series
of essays about the Congested Districts of Ireland. Synge, just as Shaw, was born in Dublin;
however, took a more social liberal stance within his writings. Synge came from a reasonably
well off family and had the opportunity to experience higher education. Following his passion for
music Synge wanted to become a professional musician however, found his talent in writing. In
one of his first essays titled, Between the Bays of Carraroe, is a short essay where Synge is having

Latent Fingerprint Ageing
The ageing of a latent fingerprint correlates to the changes in the initial composition over time,
caused by chemical, biological and physical factors. Changes to the initial composition over time
involve processes such drying, evaporation, oxidation metabolism, polymerisation and degradation
[Weyermann Ribaux 2012]. The understanding of the ageing process and the resulting by products
and/or new compounds is critical in determining the age of a latent fingerprint. Even though the
idea of determining the absolute or relative age of fingerprints has been around for some time, a
limited number of studies in this area have been published [Archer et al. 2005; Popa, Potorac Preda
2010; Weyermann et al. 2010].

Prepared Infant Formulas
The Infant
Breast feeding is the most favorable food an infant receives. A woman starts to lactate after birth
and the newborn yearns for their mother s milk. The child and mother bond creating a comfort
environment. The breast milk comprises of balanced nutrients that carry immunological traits.
However, if the mother didn t have a healthy pregnancy or has a sexual transmitted infection the
milk may do more harm than good. (Leifer 397 398) Supplemental nutrition is readily available if
breast feeding was not ideal. Synthetic nutrition is different than human milk. Allergies could
possibly develop and it could disrupt their digestion. Pediatricians speak favorably of iron fortified
formulas due to low maternal iron it decreases after 6 months of age. Cow s milk is not good for
infants until they are one. There are many companies that create prepared infant formulas. Many
well known names are Enfamil, Similac, Nestle, Pedialyte. (Leifer 398 399) ... Show more content

Checking the expiration date of the formula, run soapy water to nipples and bottles rise
thoroughly, follow right proportions to each feeding, test temperature of the milk prior
administering milk, keep formulas in an appropriate area such as the refrigerator to keep
bacteria from growing. (Leifer p. 399) Selecting and preparing solids foods for the infant may be
tricky for parents. There are several concerns that parents might have. Solid foods are introduced
at the age 4 months to 6 months. Pediatricians speak well of rice cereal. It should be the first food
to be introduced since it barely harbors allergic reactions. Fruits, vegetables, and meats should be
a part of their diet. Thoroughly cleaning all produce. Parents are warned of the use of honey.
Honey may contain spores that can make the infant very ill. Parents are also taught to pour plenty
of water into the food to keep a pureed consistency. Freezing the meal afterwards to keep it fresh.

Students Should Not Use Personal Electronics
Students Should Be Allowed to Use Personal Electronics in Class
As technology keeps advancing and becoming more influential in our lives, the question that arises
is whether or not it should be used in education. Should students be allowed to bring in and use
their personal electronic devices in class? Some people believe that the use of personal electronics
in class is disruptive. School should be a place where children learn to socialize and develop their
thinking abilities along with other necessary life qualities; yet electronic devices limit the
development of those essential characteristics. However, although many people believe that this
integration is detrimental, many others still see great benefits to implementing technolo

. . For example, simulations that present objects that move in an idealised Newtonian world and
help students visualise vectors can have strong positive out comes on learning (Roschelle, 261).
Roschelle s words do not only apply to computers but also to personal laptops, iPads, and
cellphones. There are also students that are more auditory learn ers, these online books bring
options in which the student can listen to the material. In class teachers can let their students use
headphones and listen to the textbook on their own devices.
Students can also look up key words easily by typing them in to the glossary or the search bar in the
book. Already those are many advantages that students cannot get when learning from only their
textbooks. Sarah Henderson and Jeff Yeow state that, a lot of educational technology is built from a
behaviorist perspective. Behaviorism posits that learning is manifested by a change in behavior,
and that the environment determines these changes (iPad education, 1, 2). The en vironment has
obviously been changing over the past 20 years. It has brought us some excellent and modern
changes to educate our children through the use of electronic devices and we should definitely take
advantage of this.
In 2002, people thought that these devices were not making communication efficient.
They believed that teachers and schools did not know how to effectively use these personal de
vices. Flores 3

Success In Big Sean s Bounce Back
The art form of achieving pure success only goes to the person that jumps through hurtles to reach
their goals. Success is defined as the accomplishment of an aim or purpose, or the attainment of
popularity or purpose. Leonardo DiCaprio exclaims, Be thankful for the hard times, for they have
made you . This argues that successis not measured on fame, but on the journey it took to reach
that success. Even cashing a check and coming back after a loss, or a decision that could end
your close relationship with your daughter forever, are forms of success. In Bounce Back by Big
Sean, the song portrays that Humanity will never give up after a loss and will always strive

Prospero exclaims, When I shall think or Phoebus steeds are foundered or night kept chained
below. Sit then and talk with her. She is thine own (Shakespeare 4.1. 33 35). This quote
exemplifies the love Miranda and Ferdinand share for each other, and explains that they have
won the long battle against Miranda s father. The determination Miranda and Ferdinand both
express gives proof that there is power in perseverance and that they can finally share happiness.
Ariel complains to Prospero that she is being treated unfair, and leads into Ariel and Prospero
arguing about her freedom. Ariel says, Told thee no lies, made thee no mistakings, served
without grudge or grumbling. Thous didst promise to bate me a full year (Shakespeare 1.2. 296

worked as a slave for too long and is striving for her freedom. The argument Ariel makes at
Prospero show the significance of determination and the will to live. The focus she has to persevere
is parallel to the argument of tenacity, which co inspires with the ultimate theme of willpower. As
Prospero settled the marriage of Miranda and Ferdinand, and resolved the slavery conflict with
Ariel; he was contributing to the overarching argument that humanity does not give up. Whether it

College Students In Debt Analysis
A recent study done in 2012 has shown that about 1.3 million college students are in debt, that is a
rise from 2008 study with only 1.1 million students in debt. Throughout our country s history,
education has always been important and we have always allowed and pushed every citizen to get
an education. Of course, some will argue that collegecan be affordable due to scholarships,
choosing to work before going to school, or going to a community college. The reality is, most
high school seniors who want to pursue college want a real educationand want to go away to study

Through research, many countries around the world give their citizens options for affordable
secondary education. For example, Mexico, Belgium, Germany, and France are just some of the
countries with free or affordable education, in fact, Mexico s public universities are almost
completely free. Paraphrased from Topuniversities.com, Based on official figures from the
German Education Exchange, that the average cost of studying in Germany is roughly $10,520
per year. Germany pays higher taxes than the United States, that is how the tuition is practically
free. Germans pay a 39.5% social tax, while Americans only pay a 24.8% social tax (Kohli,
2015). Americans pay social taxes just like Germans but America s social tax is not high and the
tax does not go toward secondary education the way it does in Germany. Germany s social tax
helps their older citizens and their younger citizens, something the American government needs
to look at doing. Next, Belgium also pays a higher social tax, their social tax is higher but the
only thing that changes the cost of the education is where it is located. As stated by editor Dana
Vioreanu Belgium bases their tuition off of the regions in Belgium and almost none of the
universities charge more than 835 EUR per year (Vioreanu, 2016). Belgium charges what they do

Daytona Beach Dinner Time! On the very hot and humid day of June 20th, I was at my condo on
Daytona Beach. The waves were crashing onto the shore, leaving thousands of seashells behind.
When a cool breeze from the south blew, it shook the palm trees, in which my hammock was

huge thud outside. I ran to my door and opened it, and there was Albert Einstein on the ground.
Around him in a circle, stood George Washington, Ben Franklin, and Justin Bieber. They looked

Reflections on Literature by Tim O Brien and Henry David...
Reflections Part 1 Vietnam is the subject of Journal #1, but more importantly the effect of
Vietnam on individuals. Tim O Brien, in his book, describes a number of personal events that he
experienced as a result of his experiences in Vietnam. One of the most interesting assertions he
makes is when he claims that because he went to war, he was a coward. (O Brien) He makes this
claim because he was really opposed to the war but did not have the courage to stand up an
announce his opposition. Instead he simply obeyed orders and sent to war. But he forgets that
there is a difference between the courage to stand up for one s convictions and the courage to
face actual death. His claim of being a coward is a personal judgment based on his personal
emotions, while his acceptance of actual danger and the risk of death proved that he was not. I
believe that his guilt over not opposing the war publicly, not evading the draft, was the source of
his feelings of cowardice. However, the horrors faced in Vietnam were the true test of courage,
and he passed that test. The next interesting aspect of the journal entry was the interaction between
Cross and Martha. Martha was a typical anti war type who opposed the war on a purely
intellectual basis, but Cross was a person who experienced the war and was changed by it. Martha
remains an immature child who thinks about things and believes that this is the reality. On the
other hand, Cross has experience, and the wisdom that comes

The University of Southern California promotes five pillars for all of its students to embody:
faithful, scholarly, skillful, courageous, and ambitious. Of these five traits, a student s possession
of courage will take him or her on the greatest path to success. USC relates the trait courageous to
itself by proclaiming that students are bold when faced with opportunities to contribute to USC s
continuous efforts to build a greater university for generations to come ( Five Traits of a Trojan ).
While this is true, this boldness is not necessarily shown immediately or developed overnight. In
addition, it is true that USC being courageous will benefit USC for generations to come.

How does this definition tie the people in this array to courage? What do they all have in
common? Each of these figures was a strong, successful leader. It is not a coincidence that this
definition of courage coincides with great leadership. There are many other examples and
definitions of courage, such as the other definition offered by Oxford: strength in the face of
pain or grief (Oxford). Here, we have a broader definition of courage that is less inclusive to
negative examples. Yet, this definition also embodies great leadership. Any leader of a minority
group that has overcome obstacles to achieve their goals fits into this definition, such as the
previously mentioned Nelson Mandela. Mandela protested against racism in the South African
government and helped to destroy South Africa s apartheid system ( Nelson Mandela ).
Mandela contributed to the good life, embodied by life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness by
offering victims of discrimination opportunities to seek greater liberty and happiness. All
inspiring, influential leaders have contributed to the good life for people facing injustice. Not all
leaders, however, have made the good life their goal. Leaders like Hitler and Bin Laden made it

The Ethical Principles Of Health Care Professionals
Many times health professional encounter in daily practice situations that raise moral issues. Four
essential values constitute the most significant parts of the ethical code for healthcare
professionals; justice, beneficence, nonmaleficence, and autonomy. (DeGrazia, Mappes, Brand
Ballard, 2010, p. 88). These two talks both emphasize the importance of the role of a health care
professional, especially during the healing process for any patient. According to Elizabeth Loftus,
ethically scientists/researchers can t morally place false memories in their own patients, even if
planting the false memories improves their quality of life.
A principle can be defined as the universal law, or a basic truth. Like rule, principles are action
guides and assists an individual in making a moral decision. In both videos there were many ethical
principles that were evident. Health care professionals during the healing process need to practice
these ethical principles to improve the patient s overall well being beneficence, nonmaleficience,
and autonomy.
Elizabeth Loftus is a psychologist, in which she studies false memories. A false memory is when a
person either recalls situations that didn t occur or recollects the situation differently from what
actually happened. Ethical limitations do arise for the study participants. Are they able to make an

The Opinion Of Henry Jenkins Essay
In the opinion of Henry Jenkins
Participatory culture shifts the focus of literacy from individual expression to community

Using this explanation, this essay underlines the matters of how the entertainment industries has
taken full control through social media platforms such as Facebook and Twitter. Furthermore, it
also typifies how such industries emphasis significantly into its logics and practices through its
audience and fan participation. Supported Research is justified by various theorists/examples. This

According to Jenkins Convergence Culture: Where Old and New Media Collide , It spectacles that
the entertainment industry has taken the advantage of harnessing New Media on traditional
formats by focussing on the logistics and practices. This evidently helps to increase the popularity
and the availability of audience participation through the use of updated technology. This is denoted
through old technological formats via applying new interactive media to heighten the participation
for numerous audiences. For instance, back in the day many industries i.e. entertainment had to
depend on broadcasting and radio for the viewers to receive their audio or visual content. To do
these industries had to send out signals globally through a large transmitter so that people can
receive their content. Transmitting these signals

Evil In Dr Jekyll And Mr Hyde
Questioned for years has been the idea that man is born evil.. It has also been brought up in
discussions about Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde. Was Hyde evil because of the potion or was his other
persona, Jekyll, evil from birth and that came out through Hyde? This argument will never go
away, but the answer is out there. Evil strengthens over time but it is within everyone as soon as
they take their first breath of life. The Bible says that even from birth the wicked go astray; from
the womb they are wayward, spreading lies (New International Version, Psalm 58.3). The writer
of this Psalm is saying that people stray away from what is right as soon as they are born. That is
a hard concept for many to understand. How can an innocent child be evil right as they are born?
When Eve ate the forbidden fruit that God said not to eat, she committed the first sin. Every person
to be born is now cursed with sin because of Eve and Adam. Eve was not alone when she ate the
forbidden fruit. Satan was there and he had tempted her by questioning God. Billy Graham... Show

M M Project Essay
Abstract The purpose of this paper is to provide a written report of the five part M M project. Part
one was sampling. We were to purchase 3 bags of M M and record the color counts of each bag
in an Excel spread sheet. For part two we calculated the sample proportions for each color, the
mean number of candies per1.69oz bag, created a histogram for the number of candies per bag, use
Excel to compute the descriptive statisticsfor the total number of candies per bag and summarize
the information. In part three we located the 95% confidence interval for the proportion of blue,
orange, green, yellow, red and brown. For part four we tested claims for percentages of each color.
In the final part of the project we tested the hypothesis... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Mean= 55.5667; standard deviation= 2.0003; total # of candies=5001; # of bags= 90
The standard deviation indicates that the difference between the actual number of M Ms per bag
and the mean number of M Ms per bag is 2.0003.
Part 3: Method, Analysis, Results The objective of this part of the project is was to construct a
95% confidence interval for the proportions of blue, orange, green, yellow, red and brown m ms.
The results were:

After presenting the evidence from both perspectives, I will then evaluate whether the legalisation
of gay marriage can be seen as a step towards considerable social change or if the evidence given
aligns more thoroughly with the arguments of cultural conflict. Unquestionably based upon the
acquired research, it can be seen that Marriage Equality is an inevitable social change to come in
the following years in Australian society.
(__)
Gay Marriage in the past few years has been a topic that has been highly debated and discussed. As
with any controversial issue, there are two sides to this argument. One side, the opposition, cites
religious view points and concerns about fornication and further raisse concerns that the rights of
marriage should be restricted to heterosexual couples (Debate.org). An increasing number on this
side of the argument have recently changed their opinions over the last few years as a result of
mounting pressure from LGBTI groups. People supporting marriage equality assert that marriage is
a civil right and therefore should not have restrictions based on sexual orientation. This side firmly
believes that love, not sexual orientation, is grounds enough for marriage (Debate.org). The
supporting side seems to be the populist view point, as evidenced from the recent changes of law in
some of the most prominent countries in the world, such as America.

A.Research Objective #1: Determine the Rate and Amount of Copper Release from Treated Wood
by Fungal Exposure to Four Copper Tolerant Brown Rot Fungi
Introduction. In this objective, rate and amount of copper release will be measured while fungus is
growing on copper based treatments. The working hypothesis is that the selected four brown rot
fungi (Postia placenta, Serpula lacrymans, Gloeophyllum trabeum, Fibroporia radiculosa) have
different copper removal degrees in ACQ and CCA treated wood. I will test my working hypothesis
by using the experimental approach of measurement of copper release. Fungus growth will be

For this, copper will be determined at the beginning of the study in treated samples which will
be reserved for ICP analysis. The samples which are exposed to fungus will be analyzed to
determine the percentage copper release after extraction. These exposed samples will be
microwave digested depending on the AWPA standard A7 method (AWPA 2012b). For
extraction, the samples (around 1g) will be weighed into a microwave digestion tube and nitric
acid will be added on to that. Digestion tubes will be sealed into digestion vessels and placed
into a microwave oven for a pre programmed digestion sequence. After the digestion was
complete, each vessel will be quantitatively brought up to 100 ml volume with DI water. The
digested samples will be analyzed using a Perkin Elmer Optima 2100 DV Inductively Coupled

percent reduction of Cu in the treated ground wood will be calculated based on the initial amount

Lying And Deception By William Shakespeare
Lying and deception have been present throughout all of human history. People lie about who
they are, what they think, etc. Over the centuries the reasons for lying have stayed the same.
When lying and deceiving people have always looked for some kind of reward, it can be money,
fame or simply to avoid conflict. However, the methods we use to liehave changed with the
creation of the internet. Even though, Shakespeare s time period had very different views on
lying that those today, his book, The Taming of the Shrews, was written to teach us that even
though lying is an integral part of ourselves, we must not use it to take advantage of others. Lying
and deception is used in The Taming of the Shrews as a way for the characters to get into romantic
relationships, and manipulate their partners. For instance, Lucentio is indicated by Tranio, his
servant, to pass off as the schoolmaster/ And undertake the teaching of the maid (1.1.197 198).
Lucentio decides that deceiving Bianca is his best chance at a romantic relationship with her.
Deception and changing one s identity is shown to be a method at obtaining women. Likewise,
many characters resort to lying as a way to control, or tame their partners. Petruchio lies to
Katherina about what is real and what is not as a way to confuse her and ultimately ends up
controlling her. Shakespeare portrays lying as more of a tool that is used to manipulate others,
rather than an action. Seeing as most of the male characters in the

Bull tattoos are symbolic of masculinity as far as the Samoans are concerned. Samoa s rich history
and cultural diversity has ensured that the art of tattooing, first introduced more than two thousand
years ago in Samoa, has burgeoned into a global movement! Tatau, the Samoan word for tattoo,
portrays correctness and workmanlike traits. These two traits have led to the concept of tattoos
being masculine, and bull tattoos, more so! Apart of its rich cultural magnificence, why should one
give attention to the various vagaries of the Samoans? And what do they have to do with the
concept of bull tattoos?

Theme Of Women In Heart Of Darkness
In Conrad s 1899 novel Heart of Darkness, women are noticeably absent from the narrative. Almost
every time they are introduced, they seem to be missing three dimensionality, rather serving as
symbols for the men in the novel. Undoubtedly, the women are overwhelmingly undervalued, and
placed in a separate sphere completely. The cult of domesticity was commonly used in the 19th
century to illustrate the tendency to see women in private life, while men dominated public life. In
an institution as large as colonization, women are overwhelmingly missing from the narrative.
However, on closer inspection it becomes clear that the connection between the women in the novel,
even without any interaction, is strong enough to form a type of story within a story, focusing on
women and their influence. Even though the femalecharacters in the novel are often dismissed,
women are actually the masters of the fates of Marlow and Kurtz in the novel, and ultimately in
the structure of colonization as a whole. Marlow almost immediately dismisses women by
characterizing an interaction with his aunt by saying that women as a whole are out of touch with
truth and that they live in a world of their own (Conrad 13). Even though Marlow s aunt got him a
job at the company and is the only reason he journeyed to Congo in the first place, he looks down
upon her, perhaps out of his own insecurity. Even though he questions the sense of women, his story
is anything but reliable, being described as a

Feminist Perspective On Prostitution
Prostitution is often referred to as the world s oldest profession, and yet, it is also one of the most
controversial. Utilizing multiple perspectives to understand certain issues may aid in the creating
strategies for equality (Levan, Unit 1 , 10). Different feminist theories have varying opinions
regarding prostitution, and this paper will attempt to address the concerns that each framework
brings in order to promote justice. One of the main arguments surrounding prostitution is
whether or not this type of work should be legalized. Some argue that this work should be
decriminalized so that people who want to work in this field can. This would be voluntary work,
unlike those who are forced into it via human trafficking. In the course text, it is explained that
Marxist theory recognizes that choices ... made in the context of economic or political pressures
[can] narrow the possible and desirable choices (Levan, Unit 3 , 57). In the context of
prostitution, this may mean that people are choosing the field because it is an accessible type of
work that will pay the bills, as opposed to doing it purely out of choice. From a Marxist,
perspective, this means that the workers do not have freedom (Levan, Unit 3 , 57). Additionally, if
the workers were not able to recognize that they were being coerced into this field by economic
necessity, Marxist feminists would claim that they are living with false consciousness. Levan
describes this as the failure for one to see their

It is important for the subordinates to remember the individual taking on the new managerial
role was previously just in the subordinate s position. There are many aspects of the new role to
learn and the best help the new manager can receive is support from his or her subordinates. As
a person new to a managerial role, Hill s advice in the article on learning through everyday
experience by making mistakes is extremely reassuring. Within the article, Hill elaborates on the
misconception that managers wield significant authority (Hill, 2007, p.3). Once new managers
have made it to the top, it is important for them to realize they were just in their subordinates
position. Hill (2007) quotes a new manager stating, It s humbling that someone who works for me

me it will first and foremost be my work that pushes me to the Hartness 3 top of the company. In
addition to my individual work, it will be the relationship I build with the people under me. Lacking
an effective relationship with my subordinates will take me back to the bottom of the company. Hill
lists forging good individual relationships as a misconception (Hill, 2007, p.7). Although team
building is extremely important, I would disagree with Hill s statements on team building being
more important than individual relationships (Hill,

Durkheim Racial Inequality
According to Durkheim, inter dependence and division of labor creates organic solidarity
which holds everybody in modern society together. In modern societies, people usually have
different beliefs, goals and jobs, but everybody depends on each other to live. Each of us does a
specialized job in order to keep the entire system working. For example, I don t farm but still
have vegetables to eat because somebody farms for the whole society, including me. We are
bonded together by the division of labor and the reliance on each other. However, while
Durkheim thinks that division of labor is the base of social cohesion, Marx thinks that society is
divided by class differences which are created by the division of labor. Marx claims that class

In the current criminal justice system, police can search houses, luggage or the people

He left an everlasting impact on the world of literature by using his great understanding of

Current Status Of The Refining Industry Essay
The refining industry is a massive global industry that brings in billions of dollars every year.
Millions of Americans use gasoline and petroleum products in their daily lives but rarely give
much thought to how these fuels get refined, or which states or nations do the majority of the
reining. Even fewer people give thought to the impact that the lack of refineries has on oil
producing states, and/or oil rich nations. This research paper examines the current status of the
refining industry, the domestic and global locations of oil refineries, the impact of the aging
domestic refineries, as well as considering if/where the U.S. should build new refineries to keep
up with the growing demand. An analytical look into the status of the refining industry reveals that
this billion dollar industry is relying on aging refineries, why refineries are located where they are
and the impact that not having a refinery has on both oil producing states (in America) and on oil
rich nations around the globe. Oil refineries are dispersed throughout the world and throughout the
United States, but what makes one location better suited for a refinery than another? Many
refineries are located close to crude oil production centers such as the Gulf Coast (which has
significant volumes of crude oil produced both onshore and offshore); near destinations for

symbolizes her frailness and how she is a piece of the glass menagerie. Being part of the glass
collection, Laura is confined to the shelf which the collection is on. This metaphorical
representation of Laura depicts how she prefers to stay inside rather than going out into the

confinement, arrives, there is a shift in Laura s character. As Jim talks to Laura, her shyness is
dissolving in his warmth. Moreover, the unicorn piece which is symbolic of Laura and was

withstand steep hills with poor traction. As a result of this development in 1970s many kinds of
different mountain bikes appeared on the market as cross country, freeride and downhill MTBs.

It takes around five percent materials and energy used to make a car to build a bicycle and it
produces zero pollution.
пїјпїјпїјпїјAvoid pollution
You might think that a cyclist sucks up more pollution than a driver of a car or a bus passenger,
but this is wrong according to the research conducted by Imperial college in London. The car
driver sucks up more exhaust fumes (ultrafarine particles that can damage our lung cells),an
average car driver sucks up more than 100 000 particles per cubic centimeter, more than 10 times
bigger amount of inhaled pollution than the cyclist does, as the cyclist rides at the edge of the road
not in the line of exposure.

Forget about diets, riding is the best way to keep doctor away! Moderate exercise makes immune

A lot of people think that running is the best way for slimming down. This is right but think about
it if a person weights 120kg and every time he hits his/her feet to the ground all of the force goes to
the skeleton. So start cycling, where most of the weight is supported by the saddle.

1.7.2Neuro Imaging
Neuroimaging can be a useful tool in detecting physical abnormalities in the brain. Most people
with a severe brain injury will show an abnormality in a neuro imaging test. These scans cannot
detect all types of brain injuries, so it is possible to have a severe brain injury and be in a coma
even though the scan results are normal.
1.7.2.1Computerized Tomography (CT) Scan
A computerized tomography (CT) scan uses x ray beam technology to create a computerized
image of the brain one section or slice at a time. CT imaging is now the standard of care for a
person who has sustained a significant head injury to determine if a skull fracture has occurred. A
CT image will determine whether there is hemorrhaging or a blood clot forming, brain swelling, or
even if a foreign object has penetrated the brain. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Nike Marketing Strategy
Nike s marketing strategy is an important component of the company s success. Nike is positioned
as a premium brand, selling well designed and expensive products. Nike lures customers with a
marketing strategy centering around a brand image which is attained by distinctive logo and the

Nike pays top athletes in many different sports to use their products and promote/advertise their

Nike s first professional athlete endorser was Romanian tennis player Ilie NДѓstase, and the
company s first track endorser was distance running legend Steve Prefontaine. Prefontaine was the
prized pupil of the company s co founder Bill Bowerman while he coached at the University of

Besides Prefontaine, Nike has sponsored many other successful track amp; field athletes over the

The Venus Willendorf and Laussel
The Venus
Willendorf and Laussel
During the Upper Paleolithic era artists created a wide range of small sculptures. These sculptures
were made from various materials, including ivory, bone, clay, and even stone. They represented
humans, as well as animals; they even combined them at times. Most of the sculptures from this
time show a high level of skill. From this time, there were two very influential sculptures, The
Venus of Willendorfand the Venus of Laussel. This paper will discuss both sculptures, in detail, as
well as, compare and contrast them.
The Venus of Willendorf, also known as the Woman of Willendorf, stands 11 cm. high and is
thought to have been carved from 22,000 to 21,000 B.C. It was discovered in 1908 by Josef ... Show

Sculptures in relief are typically more detailed than those in the round. This is because some of
the original material remains and forms the background plane. Like the Willendorf, Laussel also
was sculpted to have over exaggerated breasts, with large breasts and vulva. Unlike the
Willendorf, the Laussel has more detail in the rest of the body. There is still no face, but there is
focus on the arms and legs as well; where with the Willendorf, they weren t even carved into the
figure at all. The Laussel is shown holding a wisent horn, or possibly a cornucopia, in one hand,
which has 13 notches. It is believed that the notches are carved to indicate the number of nights
between the first crescent and full moon, signifying a recognized relationship between a single
menstrual and lunar cycle. It was painted with red ochre, like Willendorf, that was also thought to
represent the blood from child birth. She also has her hand placed on her stomach (or womb).
There is a Y on her thigh and her faceless head is turned toward the horn.
I was drawn to this time period as well as these two sculptures. As I researched both sculptures I
was fascinated by how much respect the people of that time had for their women. Not only for
what they could do for them, but also for what they looked like. They didn t see the weight and
size as a grotesque thing; but more as a thing of beauty. In

Asian History in Canada Essays
Asian History in Canada
Around the mid 19th to early 20th centuries, British Columbia was in a period of economic
explosion. Those who were willing to work hard could find many opportunities. At this time, gold
was found in British Columbia and Canada became dependent on workers to finish making the
transcontinental railway. Many lumbering, coal mining and fishing business were not experiencing

Their historical arrival marked the establishment of a continuous Chinese community in Canada.
While the Fraser Gold Rush is the one that drew Chinese north, it was during the Cariboo Gold
Rush that the first Chinese community, called The Hong Shun Tang, was established in Canada
in the gold mining town of Barkerville. In the 1860s, Barkerville was a booming town.
Thousands of prospectors came to the town, many of them from the U.S. At the peak of the gold
rush, there were as many as 5,000 Chinese living in Barkerville. Unfortunately, the Chinese were
not allowed to prospect in areas other than abandoned sites. This was due to discrimination
towards Asians at that time. On account of this fact, the Chinese did not make the same fortunes
as the whites did. Nonetheless, the Chinese still managed to find a way to thrive as a community.
They provided many services to as many as 20,000 prospectors that came into the Barkerville
region in the 1860s. Between 1860 and 1870, besides mining, Chinese pioneers also worked on
many other projects in British Columbia and VancouverIsland. Some of the jobs included the
erection of telegraph poles, the construction of the 607 kilometers Caribou Wagon Road and the
digging of canals and reclaiming of wastelands. The Chinese were major contributors to the
development of Canadian society, but were never recognized as such. Even while facing many
daily hardships, they did

Joyce Carol Oates Against Nature
When I was a little girl my family owned a pet chameleon named Kana; Kana was beautiful,
changing colors as she climbed across the tiny decorations in her tank. Kana was majestic,
cautiously trailing along, grasping onto the brown twigs and the bushy greenery in which she
spent most of her time. Her spirits were always high, until one day it was all jolted to a sudden
halt. Kana was a soon to be mother, but the beauty of her birth was cut short due to complications.
Her babies were lodged in her birth canal; Consequently, resulting in the death of both Kana and her
babies. Many people would hear this story and automatically perceive nature as cruel and unfair.
Why would nature take something so beautiful and turn it into something so ugly? Well, there is no

Humans should put a rest to trying to study and explain nature. We are surrounded by the howling
abyss of the unknowable. People should embrace it for all that it is with a sense of awakism and
encounter new experiences with an open mind. Though unfortunately, the common conception of
nature is often narrow. Joyce Carol Oates is one nature writer with this narrow minded conception
of nature. In fact, Oates has an entire poem, Against Nature , dedicated to how much she despises
it! In Against Nature Oates pushes her beliefs about nature being meaningless. She uses lines such
as It s as impersonal, as coolly detached, as the Oversoul itself: a wise man filters his emotions
through his brain. Or through his prose. (199 202) to criticize nature writers such as Henry David
Thoreau, whom she was referring to in this line, about how they perceive and write about nature
and its meanings. Joyce tends to mock anything that gives nature any sort of meaning. The overall
central idea Joyce Carol has on nature is that it serves no moral purpose; it is just a mere presence,
nothing more. I must say that I highly

Vacations In California
Many people will go on vacations to get away from their own lives and take a break from work,
stress, and giving them time to relax. When someone goes on vacation, they have a lot to plan
and many things to do. Another reason why people go on vacation is for the scenery. Most places
people go to for vacation is something they do not have in their own town or near them, so most of
the time people go to places that are out of their comfort zone. San Francisco, Californiatourism
reached record numbers in 2015, welcoming a total of 24.6 million visitors for an increase of 2.7
percent from 2014. (Woodlard) San Francisco, is one of the largest cities in California, and has a
lot to offer.
European explorers first arrived at the site of present day San Francisco in 1775. (Ebscohost)
While Europeans were there, they discovered the Ohlone people, who lived primarily off of
what the ocean provided. San Francisco was mapped later on, in the year, Although Spanish
Explorers had already found and named the territory, it was later mapped in 1775. The Presidio
was built in 1776, which was used as a Spanish Military post. Presidio was named Yerba Buena (
Good Herb ). San Francisco was named as a city in 1850. The Presidio is still standing today, and
is currently the oldest structures standing in San Francisco.
On January 24 1848, the Gold Rush started, which gave a significant increase in population. The

Profound, Poetic Rock and Roll by Bob Dylan
While it is widely rumored that many of Bob Dylan s songs were written while he was under the
influence of various drugs, I m not so sure that those rumors are accurate. Following a 1991
interview conducted by Paul Zollo with Bob Dylan, Zollo stated that There s an unmistakable
elegance in Dylan s words, an almost biblical beauty and that Dylan s answers give you a lot to
think about while not necessarily revealing much about the man . (Zollo 2) The same can be said
with regard to many of the lyrics of Dylan s songs. The lyrics to Mr. Tambourine Man, for example,
are wildly descriptive and sometimes confusing and can leave a listener (or a reader) open to many
different interpretations, some more complex than others, with no real meaning ever being clearly
stated.
From the first chorus where the singer is speaking to a Tambourine Man telling him that he s not
sleepy and there is no place he s going to , but in the jingle jangle morning he ll come following
you (lines 1 4), there is confusion. Some guess that the Tambourine Man is a drug dealer, who
Dylan follows to get his fix. Others say that he is a musician who played the tambourine during a
music session with Dylan at one time. Some speculate that the Tambourine Man is a fictional
character who was created by Dylan after attending a Mardi Gras celebration, which, incidentally is
when the song is said to have been written.

Analysis Of Paris Is Burning
COMPARISON OF PARIS IS BURNING AND HOW TO SURVIVE A PLAGUE
Ava Morrow
History 3220
The United States in the 20th Century
November 13, 2017 Beginning in the mid 1980 s, a number of efforts were initiated to bring
awareness and enlightenment to the actual tragedy of AIDS. Two films that evolved out of these
awareness campaigns were the documentaries Paris Is Burning and How to Survive a Plague . Both
films, although in significantly diverse ways, provide a window into the alternative lifestyles of
LGBT people of the times and the problems and issues they faced. A comparison of these two
documentaries demonstrates the initial fears of the public and affected people and the beginnings
of acceptance or at least tolerance of these alternative lifestyles.
The movie Paris Is Burning is a documentary film exploring race, gender, and sexuality within the
African American and Latino gay and transgender communities of the ball culture of New York in
the mid to late 1980 s. Ball culture is a term used to describe the underground sub culture of
LGBT people who walk or compete for trophies in events known as balls. The film chronicles the
ostentatiously arranged competitions in which participants, within a very specific theme, must walk
while being judged on criteria such as the authenticity and beauty of their apparel and their dancing
ability. Much of the film shows footage of actual balls interspersed with interviews of prominent
members of this drag scene. The film shows people of different gender identities and their varied
methods of expressing themselves while also exploring how they cope with racism, AIDS, poverty,
and homophobia.
How to Survive a Plague is a documentary movie which depicts the early years of the AIDS
epidemic and the efforts of ACT UP and other groups. ACT UP, founded in March 1987, is an
advocacy group which supports legislation and medical research and treatment of AIDS victims.
The film used archived footage of news coverage, interviews, protests, meetings, and conferences to
chronicle the struggles of AIDS activists from the start of the HIV/AIDS epidemic in New York
City. It focused on the efforts of these activists to obtain meaningful responses from medical

Key Characteristics Of Organizational Development In The...
Organization development is a system wide method of organized change directed towards refining
overall organization efficiency by way of augmented similarity of such key organizational factors as
external environment, mission, tactic, governance, customs, organization, information and
incentive practices, and work strategies and techniques. Organization development is about aiding
individuals and organizations change successfully. Experts in a variation of positions can apply
organizational development in various settings, and in any type of organization. While emerging as
a discipline in the 1960 s, Richard Beckhard defined organizational development key characteristics
as planned, organization wide and managed from the top. These three key characteristics are
important because they boost organizational effectiveness and well being through mediations in the
organization s developments, by applying behavioral science knowledge. However, innovators of
organizational development in the 1960s were still mostly pre occupied with interferences at either
an individual or group level, primarily to enable incremental alterations, relatively than the whole
system, large scale intercessions which describe the calculated change labors and ingenuities that
are applied today. Organizational development came about due to the initiatives of key workers in
the 1960s, through the expansion of T groups and the knowledge increased from those
organizations, from Lewin s work on revolution

Why Is Ulysses S. Grant Ineffective
Widely viewed as one of the most incompetent presidents in the history of the United States
(Craig), Ulysses S. Grant s two time administration can be marked as a widescale and colossal
failure. Consistently, Grant s presidency has been denounced time and time again by most
historians as the most corrupt in United Statespresidential history (Craig). Grant s tenure as the
United States President can be observed as decidedly ineffectual due to his political inexperience,
maintenance of the spoils system , lack of oversight into governmental scandals, failure to enact
lasting action during Reconstruction, and his pioneering of the concept of Grantism .

Grant s lack of action during Reconstruction led to enduring problems in the American South that
are tangible to this day. His caution in enforcing voting rights and civil liberties legislation led to the
emergence of Jim Crow Laws and the Ku Klux Klan, their influence still occurring well into the
twentieth century and further. As the South was ravaged by the long lasting and enduring effects of
the Civil War, Grant was very ineffective in fostering a culture of renewal in the region, instead
sowing discord among the economic, social, and political factions of an area torn apart by war. The
Ku Klux Klan enacted horrible and vicious hate crimes that struck fear into the hearts of recently
freed African Americans attempting to live in a world where their very existence was threatened (
Reconstruction and Its Aftermath ). In the Grant era succeeding the Emancipation Proclamation
and African American military service, the nation remained unwilling to award African Americans
the full scope of rights deserved to their status as American citizens. The formal Congressional
period of Reconstruction, from 1866 to 1877, was intended to readmit the former Rebel states into
the Union, rebuild and reinvigorate communities ravaged by war, and eliminate the highly visible
vestiges of Southern slave society. The events transpiring during these efforts made the whole affair
largely ineffectual and reductive ( Reconstruction and Its Aftermath). In response, the South
provided a marked resistance to the attempted establishment of civil rights and liberties for recently
freed slaves, producing such scourges as the Ku Klux Klan, Grandfather Clause, and Jim Crow
Laws. Beyond enforcing the rudimentary legislation that would grant basic agency to African
Americans, Grant failed to institute long term and helpful efforts that would diminish the culture of
racialized violence and white supremacy in the South. The Ku Klux Klan still exerted widescale
political and local influence

Reading about the election process is different from actually being a part of it. I only phone
banked for 6 hours, at three hour intervals, and that was already tiring for me having to speak to
people on the phone every minute. Most of the calls I made were either rejected or did not even
go through, with the occasional hostile receiver, but there were volunteers who volunteered
every day of the week for full shifts, which would be around eight hours. They probably had
more than the occasional disgruntled receiver wanting to be removed from the calling list or anti
Jane person. I always just assumed that there were computers or machines doing all the hard
labor of the campaigning processes, but there are actually real people working and fighting for
these campaigns. They do all the paperwork, reaching out, and canvassing. They spend months
and hours fighting for this cause or person, so when they aren t successful, it is tough. I barely
worked for more than half the time that most of the volunteers worked for, and even I was
disappointed with the results of the election. I never really followed the elections before this project

Multiculturalism In Canada
Canada is routinely defined as the exemplar multicultural society with the most diverse cities in the
world such as Vancouver, Toronto and Quebec. The concepts of integrity and complexity are being
shaped in Canadian society because of its co existence of different cultures. Indeed,
multiculturalism has been a keystone of Canadian policy for over 40 years with the aim of
pursuing Canadian unity (Flegel 2002). Accordingly, Canadais generally estimated a country where
people are all equal and where they can share fundamental values based upon freedom. Diversity is
sustained and promoted by governmental policy, however, there are still racist interactions, which
are destructive to minorities integration, especially recent ethnic groups arrival (Banting Kymlicka
2010). This paper will examine challenges that multiculturalismhas brought society and residents of
Canada. There is a growing of ethnic groups from non European societies, who can meet Canadian
economic development in term of their level of education, occupational skills and languages. Those
ethnic groups are called immigrants because they are neither indigenous nor colonist settlers but are
accepted through Canada s immigrationpolicy (Banting 2010). Even though diverse cultures and
differences of minorities were recognized and celebrated within the bilingual framework during the
multiculturalism policy of the 1970s, their full equal participations are still excluded from the
mainstream society (Leung 2012).

  • 2. Psychological Disorders Presentation Running head: PSYCHOLOGICAL DISORDERS PRESENTATION Psychological Disorders Presentation Debra Baker University of Phoenix Introduction to Behavioral Science BEH/225 Katherine Malish June 23, 2010 Psychological Disorders Presentation For many millennia psychological disorders, also called mental disorders have been misunderstood. Used to, people suffering from such disorders were thought to be demonically possessed or they were accused of being a witch. Many of these unfortunate people were burned, tortured, or locked up away from society, which was torturous in itself due to the deprivation of life sustaining necessities such as food and air that patients were forced to endure (Morris and Maisto, 2002). Since... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Treatment of schizophrenic disorders involves taking drugs that are meant to decrease dopamine amounts in the brain and to block dopamine receptors (Morris and Maisto, 2002). Personality disorders are characteristic of a person s inability to adapt or be flexible to their environment through their way of thinking and behavior. People with personality disorders include unconventional people, as well as people who kill in cold blood serial killers for example (Morris and Maisto, 2002). A type of personality disorder is paranoid personality disorder for which the person suffering from this cannot trust anyone and is highly suspicious all the time. Most people with this disorder believe themselves to be sensible and objective, but in reality they are argumentative, devious, secretive, and unable to take the blame for their wrong doing (Morris and Maisto, 2002). Personality disorders are thought to be aided by family, as well as community influences. For example, a child who feels rejected or unwanted by a family member(s) will act out, taking his or her aggressions out in an unacceptable manner such as defying rules and regulations at school or within the community (Morris and Maisto, 2002). Sexual disorders are classified into three main groups paraphilias, sexual dysfunction, and gender identity disorders. Paraphilias disorder is the need to use unconventional objects to achieve sexual arousal. Gender identity disorders ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. The Impact Of Australian Foreign Policy On The... Australian foreign policy has undoubtedly been subject to vast changes over the past century, particularly as a response to the increasing role Asia has played in shaping the contemporary global market. Having identified the importance of multilateralism and regionalism, policy continue to be increasingly focused on our geographical position as part of the Asia Pacific region, and the relationships with our immediate neighbours, as a means to better achieve stability. The word stability in this context does not simply refer one single aspect, but rather encompasses several different areas which are equally important if we are to continue advancing our country in both a domestic and international sense. There are several key areas of policy... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The 1997 Asian financial crisis reinforced Australias growing economic interdependence within Asia, evident through the assistance given to Indonesia, Thailand, and South Korea to help re establish their economies. Regional dynamics largely shifted as a result, contributing to the demise of the Indonesia Suharto administration, and its subsequent transition to democracy. As Indonesia develops itself as a democratic country, there have been more opportunities for the traditionally different nations of Indonesia and Australia to intertwine, seeing an increase in regional policy and greater collaboration on issues of mutual importance. As Indonesian society continues to transform, so has the national interest in global politics. This has seen an increase in regional and global affairs, triggering a growth in environmental activism, and a greater awareness for implementation of crime prevention and migration strategies. Indonesia has strongly supported the inclusion of Australia in the East Asia Summit (EAS), a conference which examines economic, political, security and environmental issues within the region. Conversely, Indonesian society has benefitted from its increasing ties with Australia, allowing it to better develop a relationship with the United States (a close and powerful ally of Australia). • 4. The Dystopian Society of Oceania in the Novel 1984 by... Power over the mind and power over the past are both necessary to ensure power over the population. Both language and power are crucial to controlling the population and since language has the power in politics to mask the truth and mislead the public, one could use them both to increase public awareness of this power. In the dystopian society of Oceania in George Orwell s novel 1984, Orwell gives readers a glimpse at how power and language relationship can be used to gain control of the public. In order to display one s dominance, power is the key factor that should be displayed to gain control over the public. In the novel The Party has the power and control over the population. The Party promulgates the idea that whatever government is in power has the power to control everything that is, that was, and everything that ever will be. The Party seems to be imposing a tension between two different types of discourse, or two different attitudes to the uses of language through which the world is represented to the people of Oceania. Their slogan Who controls the past controls the future; who controls the present controls the past, is a prime example of how they use language to control the population (p.37). The Party use slogans such as big brother is watching to ensure that there is no deviation from Big Brother s doctrine. This also gives the party a sort of god like power because it seems as though they are always watching and will always know when someone sins. One ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Imagine if we were never given a second chance at something, no do overs, no starting over. All there is, is a lifetime of mistakes and heartache. • 6. College Cost In College The author talks about college cost, and the effect it has on students and on how times it takes longer to graduate. This is an important topic because college cost has been a problem for many individuals for decades and it still is. College cost is something that shapes people s lives and it worries them because collegecost is what determines if they re going to continue going to college. It s something that people should take lightly because college is pretty expensive. According to the advocacy group complete college America, it cost 63,718 for one extra year to attend college. For students who take longer to finish schoolbecause of certain requisites, it becomes a toll because of the cost. According to Norton Field Guide to writing by Richard Bullock and Maureen Daly Goggin found a report on Los Angeles bases campaigns for college opportunity, saying students who attend school 6 years instead of 4 years will lose 110,900 dollars in their lifetime. Many people in the work field and colleges expect students to attend school for four years. According to the NFGW, nearly nine out of 10 freshmen think they will earn their bachelor degree within the traditional four years. Yet In the NFGW quotes the U.S Department of Educationand they report that about 45 percent won t have finished. I have encountered many people who have mentioned that college is very expensive and that it has been a big factor on whether they would continue their education. People can take a break ... • 7. Biological Determinism And Social And Economic Differences... Question 1. Biological determinism as stated by Gould, states that shared behavioral norms, and the social and economic differences between human groups primarily races, classes, and sexes arise from inherited, inborn distinctions and that society, in this sense, is an accurate reflection of biology (Gould, p.52). He explains this idea further through his explanation of how biological determinism can be measured or assigned based on the craniometry, which is the size of the skull, for at the time it was believed that the larger the skull, the more intelligent that individual was. This explanation became one of the earliest works connected to scientific racism. Changes to the initial composition over time involve processes such drying, evaporation, oxidation metabolism, polymerisation and degradation [Weyermann Ribaux 2012]. The understanding of the ageing process and the resulting by products and/or new compounds is critical in determining the age of a latent fingerprint. Tim O Brien, in his book, describes a number of personal events that he experienced as a result of his experiences in Vietnam. One of the most interesting assertions he makes is when he claims that because he went to war, he was a coward. (O Brien) He makes this claim because he was really opposed to the war but did not have the courage to stand up an announce his opposition. Instead he simply obeyed orders and sent to war. But he forgets that there is a difference between the courage to stand up for one s convictions and the courage to face actual death. His claim of being a coward is a personal judgment based on his personal emotions, while his acceptance of actual danger and the risk of death proved that he was not. I believe that his guilt over not opposing the war publicly, not evading the draft, was the source of his feelings of cowardice. However, the horrors faced in Vietnam were the true test of courage, and he passed that test. The next interesting aspect of the journal entry was the interaction between Cross and Martha. Martha was a typical anti war type who opposed the war on a purely intellectual basis, but Cross was a person who experienced the war and was changed by it. Martha remains an immature child who thinks about things and believes that this is the reality. On the other hand, Cross has experience, and the wisdom that comes ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Copper Release Essay METHODS AND APPROACH A.Research Objective #1: Determine the Rate and Amount of Copper Release from Treated Wood by Fungal Exposure to Four Copper Tolerant Brown Rot Fungi Introduction. In this objective, rate and amount of copper release will be measured while fungus is growing on copper based treatments. The working hypothesis is that the selected four brown rot fungi (Postia placenta, Serpula lacrymans, Gloeophyllum trabeum, Fibroporia radiculosa) have different copper removal degrees in ACQ and CCA treated wood. I will test my working hypothesis by using the experimental approach of measurement of copper release. For extraction, the samples (around 1g) will be weighed into a microwave digestion tube and nitric acid will be added on to that. Digestion tubes will be sealed into digestion vessels and placed into a microwave oven for a pre programmed digestion sequence. After the digestion was complete, each vessel will be quantitatively brought up to 100 ml volume with DI water. • 29. Lying And Deception By William Shakespeare Lying and deception have been present throughout all of human history. People lie about who they are, what they think, etc. Over the centuries the reasons for lying have stayed the same. When lying and deceiving people have always looked for some kind of reward, it can be money, fame or simply to avoid conflict. However, the methods we use to liehave changed with the creation of the internet. Even though, Shakespeare s time period had very different views on lying that those today, his book, The Taming of the Shrews, was written to teach us that even though lying is an integral part of ourselves, we must not use it to take advantage of others. Lying and deception is used in The Taming of the Shrews as a way for the characters to get into romantic relationships, and manipulate their partners. For instance, Lucentio is indicated by Tranio, his servant, to pass off as the schoolmaster/ And undertake the teaching of the maid (1.1.197 198). Lucentio decides that deceiving Bianca is his best chance at a romantic relationship with her. Deception and changing one s identity is shown to be a method at obtaining women. Likewise, many characters resort to lying as a way to control, or tame their partners. Petruchio lies to Katherina about what is real and what is not as a way to confuse her and ultimately ends up controlling her. Shakespeare portrays lying as more of a tool that is used to manipulate others, rather than an action. Seeing as most of the male characters in the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 32. Theme Of Women In Heart Of Darkness In Conrad s 1899 novel Heart of Darkness, women are noticeably absent from the narrative. Almost every time they are introduced, they seem to be missing three dimensionality, rather serving as symbols for the men in the novel. Undoubtedly, the women are overwhelmingly undervalued, and placed in a separate sphere completely. The cult of domesticity was commonly used in the 19th century to illustrate the tendency to see women in private life, while men dominated public life. In an institution as large as colonization, women are overwhelmingly missing from the narrative. However, on closer inspection it becomes clear that the connection between the women in the novel, even without any interaction, is strong enough to form a type of story within a story, focusing on women and their influence. Even though the femalecharacters in the novel are often dismissed, women are actually the masters of the fates of Marlow and Kurtz in the novel, and ultimately in the structure of colonization as a whole. Marlow almost immediately dismisses women by characterizing an interaction with his aunt by saying that women as a whole are out of touch with truth and that they live in a world of their own (Conrad 13). Utilizing multiple perspectives to understand certain issues may aid in the creating strategies for equality (Levan, Unit 1 , 10). Different feminist theories have varying opinions regarding prostitution, and this paper will attempt to address the concerns that each framework brings in order to promote justice. One of the main arguments surrounding prostitution is whether or not this type of work should be legalized. Some argue that this work should be decriminalized so that people who want to work in this field can. This would be voluntary work, unlike those who are forced into it via human trafficking. In the course text, it is explained that Marxist theory recognizes that choices ... made in the context of economic or political pressures [can] narrow the possible and desirable choices (Levan, Unit 3 , 57). In the context of prostitution, this may mean that people are choosing the field because it is an accessible type of work that will pay the bills, as opposed to doing it purely out of choice. From a Marxist, perspective, this means that the workers do not have freedom (Levan, Unit 3 , 57). [and] Laura cries out as if wounded. Laura s action in this scene symbolizes her frailness and how she is a piece of the glass menagerie. Being part of the glass collection, Laura is confined to the shelf which the collection is on. This metaphorical representation of Laura depicts how she prefers to stay inside rather than going out into the world and becoming truly independent. Nonetheless, when Jim, the ticket to break out of this confinement, arrives, there is a shift in Laura s character. As Jim talks to Laura, her shyness is dissolving in his warmth. Moreover, the unicorn piece which is symbolic of Laura and was once addressed as lonesome loses its horn in an accident. • 48. Profound, Poetic Rock and Roll by Bob Dylan While it is widely rumored that many of Bob Dylan s songs were written while he was under the influence of various drugs, I m not so sure that those rumors are accurate. Following a 1991 interview conducted by Paul Zollo with Bob Dylan, Zollo stated that There s an unmistakable elegance in Dylan s words, an almost biblical beauty and that Dylan s answers give you a lot to think about while not necessarily revealing much about the man . (Zollo 2) The same can be said with regard to many of the lyrics of Dylan s songs. The lyrics to Mr. Tambourine Man, for example, are wildly descriptive and sometimes confusing and can leave a listener (or a reader) open to many different interpretations, some more complex than others, with no real meaning ever being clearly stated. From the first chorus where the singer is speaking to a Tambourine Man telling him that he s not sleepy and there is no place he s going to , but in the jingle jangle morning he ll come following you (lines 1 4), there is confusion. Some guess that the Tambourine Man is a drug dealer, who Dylan follows to get his fix. Others say that he is a musician who played the tambourine during a music session with Dylan at one time. Some speculate that the Tambourine Man is a fictional character who was created by Dylan after attending a Mardi Gras celebration, which, incidentally is when the song is said to have been written. While there are many lines in the song/poem that could easily be viewed ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 49. Analysis Of Paris Is Burning COMPARISON OF PARIS IS BURNING AND HOW TO SURVIVE A PLAGUE Ava Morrow History 3220 The United States in the 20th Century November 13, 2017 Beginning in the mid 1980 s, a number of efforts were initiated to bring awareness and enlightenment to the actual tragedy of AIDS. Two films that evolved out of these awareness campaigns were the documentaries Paris Is Burning and How to Survive a Plague . Both films, although in significantly diverse ways, provide a window into the alternative lifestyles of LGBT people of the times and the problems and issues they faced. A comparison of these two documentaries demonstrates the initial fears of the public and affected people and the beginnings of acceptance or at least tolerance of these alternative lifestyles. The movie Paris Is Burning is a documentary film exploring race, gender, and sexuality within the African American and Latino gay and transgender communities of the ball culture of New York in the mid to late 1980 s. Ball culture is a term used to describe the underground sub culture of LGBT people who walk or compete for trophies in events known as balls. The film chronicles the ostentatiously arranged competitions in which participants, within a very specific theme, must walk while being judged on criteria such as the authenticity and beauty of their apparel and their dancing ability. Much of the film shows footage of actual balls interspersed with interviews of prominent members of this drag scene. The film shows people of different gender identities and their varied methods of expressing themselves while also exploring how they cope with racism, AIDS, poverty, and homophobia. How to Survive a Plague is a documentary movie which depicts the early years of the AIDS epidemic and the efforts of ACT UP and other groups. ACT UP, founded in March 1987, is an advocacy group which supports legislation and medical research and treatment of AIDS victims. The film used archived footage of news coverage, interviews, protests, meetings, and conferences to chronicle the struggles of AIDS activists from the start of the HIV/AIDS epidemic in New York City. • 50. Key Characteristics Of Organizational Development In The... Organization development is a system wide method of organized change directed towards refining overall organization efficiency by way of augmented similarity of such key organizational factors as external environment, mission, tactic, governance, customs, organization, information and incentive practices, and work strategies and techniques. Organization development is about aiding individuals and organizations change successfully. Experts in a variation of positions can apply organizational development in various settings, and in any type of organization. While emerging as a discipline in the 1960 s, Richard Beckhard defined organizational development key characteristics as planned, organization wide and managed from the top. These three key characteristics are important because they boost organizational effectiveness and well being through mediations in the organization s developments, by applying behavioral science knowledge. However, innovators of organizational development in the 1960s were still mostly pre occupied with interferences at either an individual or group level, primarily to enable incremental alterations, relatively than the whole system, large scale intercessions which describe the calculated change labors and ingenuities that are applied today. Organizational development came about due to the initiatives of key workers in the 1960s, through the expansion of T groups and the knowledge increased from those organizations, from Lewin s work on revolution ... • 51. Why Is Ulysses S. Grant Ineffective Widely viewed as one of the most incompetent presidents in the history of the United States (Craig), Ulysses S. Grant s two time administration can be marked as a widescale and colossal failure. Consistently, Grant s presidency has been denounced time and time again by most historians as the most corrupt in United Statespresidential history (Craig). Grant s tenure as the United States President can be observed as decidedly ineffectual due to his political inexperience, maintenance of the spoils system , lack of oversight into governmental scandals, failure to enact lasting action during Reconstruction, and his pioneering of the concept of Grantism . As displayed through the tenure of Ulysses S Grant, political inexperience makes for an incompetent ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Grant s lack of action during Reconstruction led to enduring problems in the American South that are tangible to this day. His caution in enforcing voting rights and civil liberties legislation led to the emergence of Jim Crow Laws and the Ku Klux Klan, their influence still occurring well into the twentieth century and further. As the South was ravaged by the long lasting and enduring effects of the Civil War, Grant was very ineffective in fostering a culture of renewal in the region, instead sowing discord among the economic, social, and political factions of an area torn apart by war. The Ku Klux Klan enacted horrible and vicious hate crimes that struck fear into the hearts of recently freed African Americans attempting to live in a world where their very existence was threatened ( Reconstruction and Its Aftermath ). In the Grant era succeeding the Emancipation Proclamation and African American military service, the nation remained unwilling to award African Americans the full scope of rights deserved to their status as American citizens. The formal Congressional period of Reconstruction, from 1866 to 1877, was intended to readmit the former Rebel states into the Union, rebuild and reinvigorate communities ravaged by war, and eliminate the highly visible vestiges of Southern slave society. The events transpiring during these efforts made the whole affair largely ineffectual and reductive ( Reconstruction and Its Aftermath). In response, the South provided a marked resistance to the attempted establishment of civil rights and liberties for recently freed slaves, producing such scourges as the Ku Klux Klan, Grandfather Clause, and Jim Crow Laws. Beyond enforcing the rudimentary legislation that would grant basic agency to African Americans, Grant failed to institute long term and helpful efforts that would diminish the culture of racialized violence and white supremacy in the South. The Ku Klux Klan still exerted widescale political and local influence ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

I only phone banked for 6 hours, at three hour intervals, and that was already tiring for me having to speak to people on the phone every minute. Most of the calls I made were either rejected or did not even go through, with the occasional hostile receiver, but there were volunteers who volunteered every day of the week for full shifts, which would be around eight hours. They probably had more than the occasional disgruntled receiver wanting to be removed from the calling list or anti Jane person. I always just assumed that there were computers or machines doing all the hard labor of the campaigning processes, but there are actually real people working and fighting for these campaigns. They do all the paperwork, reaching out, and canvassing. They spend months and hours fighting for this cause or person, so when they aren t successful, it is tough. I barely worked for more than half the time that most of the volunteers worked for, and even I was disappointed with the results of the election. I never really followed the elections before this project and my American Democracy class, but I m definitely determined to start because of this. • 53. Multiculturalism In Canada Canada is routinely defined as the exemplar multicultural society with the most diverse cities in the world such as Vancouver, Toronto and Quebec. The concepts of integrity and complexity are being shaped in Canadian society because of its co existence of different cultures. Indeed, multiculturalism has been a keystone of Canadian policy for over 40 years with the aim of pursuing Canadian unity (Flegel 2002). Accordingly, Canadais generally estimated a country where people are all equal and where they can share fundamental values based upon freedom. Diversity is sustained and promoted by governmental policy, however, there are still racist interactions, which are destructive to minorities integration, especially recent ethnic groups arrival (Banting Kymlicka 2010). This paper will examine challenges that multiculturalismhas brought society and residents of Canada. There is a growing of ethnic groups from non European societies, who can meet Canadian economic development in term of their level of education, occupational skills and languages. Those ethnic groups are called immigrants because they are neither indigenous nor colonist settlers but are accepted through Canada s immigrationpolicy (Banting 2010). Even though diverse cultures and differences of minorities were recognized and celebrated within the bilingual framework during the multiculturalism policy of the 1970s, their full equal participations are still excluded from the mainstream society (Leung 2012). ...
