Personal Narrative-Grounded In My Voice
At the start of the semester I had become more aware and grounded in my voice. In my everyday life,
I would notice if I was holding my breath. The reason for this was because over the summer I had to
stand up to one of my shut up judges, my dad. The incident was extremely emotional, and I coped
with it through the use of my actor training; instead of checking out and holding tension, I chose to
breathe deeply and stay grounded. This allowed me to speak up even when I was told to shut up. This
awareness of breath was developed through necessity rather than choice. I had to be strong. My
strength didn t only come from being grounded in my breath, but it also came using breathe to stay
present in the room. The use of breath also allowed me to go into my body and release the build up of
emotions. As a result of these experiences, my voice was able to drop more consistently to my lower
resonator rather than my typical chest voice.
The new drop in my voice had its own challenges as well. One, of course, was to avoid reverting into
old habits. When it comes to voice work, effort should be applied every day. Just because I was
breathing deep one day, doesn t mean I am allowed to stop the next day. Throughout this whole
semester, I ve had to continuously be aware of my voice and breath. The interesting thing was that I
would be holding my ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I went from starting to bring breath into my body, to using that as a foundation for a more free and
clear voice. In order to reach my ideal voice, I need to work on the tension in my throat and to bring

far I have come, and where I m headed. I can t wait for the next chapter in the story of my

Social Media Has Become A Political Outlet For Civilians...
With the advancing globalized society that we live in, social media has become a political outlet for
civilians of the interconnected world. Through this technological circuit, citizens are able to speak
freely about the issues that concern them, giving them the ability to connect with others who share the
same perspective. Looking through a development perspective, it is evident that social media outlets,
for example twitter, have lead to major political uproar, such as the Arab Uprisings of 2011, or as
popularized by the Western media, The Arab Spring . At this time, the demands of the protestors in the
Arab region indicated their desire for greater social and economic justice and were made as a response
to the growing concern regarding the Egyptian economy s tie into the capitalist world market (Haynes,
2013). The Arab Spring was not solely a revolt against authoritarian regimes but also expressions of a
crisis caused by the imbalanced social order brought upon by neoliberal policies (Bogaert, 2013).
During this time, citizenry relied heavily on social media to spread information and promote insurgent
agendas. Globalization and the technological facets of our hegemonic society have allowed for regular
civilians to become part of the political system as exemplified through the use of social media during
the Arab Spring.

1984 A Dystopian Society Essay
The astounding book 1984 is a dystopian novel written by the famous English author George Orwell.
Winston Smith, the main character, faces thoughtcrime, sexcrime, and Room 101 in the mind bending,
teeth clenching story. The novel follows Winston as he takes his journey of life in the war ridden,
filthy, Oceania. His enemy: The Party. The Party, the power that governs Oceania, tends to make life
seem sweet and savory, when in reality, it is disgusting. Poverty, filth, death, and hate fill the society.
War is constant. Hate towards the enemy is a daily routine. And nothing, nor no one, is in favor of the
people. The Party imagines Oceania as a utopian society, but Winston, and the Party both know that it
is a true dystopia. The form of government practiced in Oceania is totalitarianism. This form of
government can be best described as a dictatorship. It is total control of all societal factors, the law, the
economy, the church, the people, and in this case, thought. The Party uses this to their advantage. By
having full control, they can manipulate and use the people to their full benefit. It can be easily agreed
that in a dystopian society, the government s intentions are not benevolent, but instead, self serving. ...

not loyal to the party. If caught, the people will be dragged away to the Ministry of Love, and no one
knows what happens there except its victims. The Party is selfish. They want everyone to be on their
side. They are self serving. The people are the slaves to the party. They have no freedom, because

states that are part of NAFTA such as Canada and the U.S. This active participation by the state has
created a legal and political infrastructure that has given Canada its neoliberal identity and has allowed
free trade to exist (McBride McNutt, 2007, p.186). Free Trade agreements such as NAFTA have
decreased workers power and quality of life. NAFTA, which has extended protections for investors,
has excluded protections of labour standards and worker rights (Faux as cited in NAFTA at Seven: Its
impact on workers in all three nations, 2001, p.1). There is no Labour rights section in any chapter of
NAFTA but is rather a side agreement which is troublesome for workers and unions (Kay, 2015,

Death Rituals In America
America is a melting pot of different cultures. Each culture shares within its group their own beliefs,
values, traditions and rituals. All cultures have their own way of handling death and expressing grief
often through customs and rituals which are reflected in our understanding of death. Grieflink stated,
when someone close to us dies, we mourn this loss inwardly (we might refer to this as the inner
experience of grief) but we also mourn in an outward public way (the mourning customs or rituals of
our particular society). According to the Cancer.net (2015), in the wake of chaos and confusion

The Negative Effects Of Television Violence
Children aged five to sixteen spend an average of six and a half hours a day in front of a screen...
(Wakefield). But unfortunately, much of the television today is full of violence. Scientists believe that
the effects of TV violence can cause children and teenagers to become immune to the consequence of
violence, unable to handle their problems in a healthy form, and cause them to copy the violent
behavior they see on the television. Therefore, there needs to be a removal of violence from cartoons
such as the ones on Boomerang, as it is negatively affecting children.
One cause from the effect of violence from TV is, it can cause children or teenagers to become
immune to the consequence of violence, terror or horror. Children and teenagers can become immune
as a result of violence when they watch violent cartoons.
One opposing this might state that if we have a removal of violent cartoons that takes away the right to
choose what people can watch on television. But, the people against the removal of violence from
cartoons may not understand how much violence children are seeing for every hour they watch
cartoons. Studies by George Gerbner, Ph.D., at the University of Pennsylvania, have shown that
children s TV shows contain about 20 violent acts each our (CMU). Eventually, this could cause them
to be immune to the violence if they are watching it for the average amount per day, six and a half
hours.

The Angst In Vada s Life
As for Vada, there is a certain amount of angst in her life caused by the environment and experiences
of her family. Her mother died within two days of her birth, and so she feels guilt for her loss and
sadness for growing up without a mother. She admires her father, Harry, but he is emotionally distant.
As a source of income, Harry owns a funeral business in their home and is more preoccupied with the
dead rather than the living, although Vada desperately yearns for his attention. Due to the nature of
Harry s business and the fact that his place of work is his home, there is a continual flood of deceased
people coming through the home in body bags, which is hard on Vada and forces her into gaining a
very precocious knowledge base of death

Gay Marriage History
History of Gay Marriage
Today s modern debate over gay marriage has been played by politicians over the past few decades to
win and keep the majority vote. The general public is led to believe that this issue has come to light
because of modernization and changing beliefs and loosening morals when the fact is homosexuality
and gay unions can be traced back to the times of ancient Egypt. Information on gay unions is backed
up with the discovery of a pharaonic tomb with images showing their unions were recognized by their
kingdom. Mesopotamia, a region located in the area between the Euphrates and Tigris rivers,
north/northwest of the bottleneck at Baghdad in modern Iraq was known for a variety of marital

Gay Marriage Promotes Equality and Non Discrimination in Society
Millions of same sex couples contribute to our way of life. They contribute culturally, politically,
socially, and spiritually. Legalizing same sex marriage in the United States makes a statement that all
Americans are valued and deserve equal rights, which includes the rights received in a legal marital
union. Taking this step we are supporting cultural diversity and reducing prejudice (7 Ways the U.S.A.
Benefits from the Legalization of Gay Marriage, 2013).
2. Gays as Couples and as Individuals Will Be Better Off
Studies continue to demonstrate that people who marry tend to be better off with financial and medical
health. One of the most important aspects of gay marriage is that it establishes legal rights for couples
which makes it easier for people to make social and legal commitments for one another. Most of the
rights and privileges that go with marriage are the ways spouses can support one another. Married
couples are in a better circumstance together than unmarried couples allowing the ability for those
relationships to develop stronger and deeper

Argumentative Essay On Timeouts
Do you need a time out? Have you ever asked this question at home or in the classroom? I know I did
many times and the truth is that I am torn when it comes to timeouts sometimes
In my experience, time out is totally ineffective and sometimes it allows children to get away and
relax this helps them to calm down which has a huge impact on a child s behavior. So I am left to
think and wonder our time outs good or bad? Is there really a right or wrong way to give a time out?
Will this be the next big debate?

So have you ever wondered timeouts a good thing or a bad thing? Why is it a good thing to give a
child a time out? Well according to researchers Tera L. Wolf T. F. McLaughlin and Randy Lee

acceptable when dealing with children s behaviors because it is just that a behavioral technique that is
used to decrease the frequency of a certain behavior, and it was found to be the most effective for
behaviors that are maintained either by attention or tangible reinforcers, which we are know are well
known factors in a classroom setting.
There are even ways for parents and teachers to work to make sure timeouts run effectively. According

Leadership In Tim O Brien s Gung Ho !
Gung Ho!
This book report exemplified the character of leadership to me. Not only in business but in life,
leadership is very important when your goal is success. Being a leader is about glorifying your name
to the public. Being a leader means staying keeping yourself focus and maintaining your team focus as
well. Being a part of athletics taught me that there is no I, in team. Being about I , will leave you as
failure and in the sports world a loser. This concept goes right along with the business world. When
operating a business if you are not careful about the treatment of your employees, manufacturing area,
or clientele then you re bound to not reach the expectations as created. This book attracted me to
choose it for many reasons. When I first saw the cover page of the book , I thought of a famous
Chinese male because of the name Gung Ho! I look up to a lot of famous Chinese businessmen such
as Jack ma, Lei Jun, and my favorite Chinese billionaire Wang Jianlin. So the name really stood out to
me and caught my attention to view more of the book. Secondly what brought me to choose this book,
was the sentence turn on the people in any organization . I immediately asked myself what does that
even mean. Questions stormed into my head such as, did the owner turn his back on all of his
employees? Did the employees turn their back on the owner and sought out law cases against the
owner? Those are only a few questions I asked myself regarding that sentence, I had plenty of more.
This book is relevant to this class because it described different scenarios that any manager would go
through when emerging into a new atmosphere. You never know how it will play out, but the way you
view things as a person and how serious you take your job will decide if your business will be
successful or crash like the ones before. In class we discuss business opportunities and what character
traits a successful manager possesses. The manager in this book showed dedication, heart , decision
making, and a listening ear within uncomfortable situations. This manager exemplified what the inside
of a general manager s life displayed.
There are several points with the book that relates to what we learn in class. The first key point that

The Future Of Natural Gas And Crude Oil
The Future of Natural Gas and Crude Oil
Throughout history, as well as present day, the usage of natural gas has played an immense role in our
everyday life. However, over recent decades, the extraction and usage of natural gas has become a
more frequent topic of debate. Even though extraction of natural gas and crude oil has been proven to
boost the global economy, people still question weather these methods of extraction will ultimately
destroy our planet. There is an abundance unconventional and conventional reservoirs of oil and gas
under the surface, each with the potential to increase the production of both resources vastly.
Advancements in engineering, such as hydraulic fracturing and horizontal drilling, have allowed us to
take advantage of all aspects of these varying reservoirs. With this impending influx of resources,
many regions will see an increase in production and consumption. Throughout this paper, we will
discuss the current methods of extraction, the uses of natural gas both past and present, and the US
export ban of crude oil. Finally, after reviewing the reasons behind the current low prices on energy,
we can make projections for the future of natural gas.
Shale production and fracking methods have opened a whole world to the oil and gas industry. Just
like the nuclear power, oil and shale gas are being used in wide varieties such as: vehicles and energy.
Furthermore; natural gas and oil are used in a wider range than nuclear power. We need more

Social Networking Addiction
The last decade witnessed an explosion of social networks such as Myspace and Facebook, which
added a new social dimension to the web. While such networks have made people, communities and
groups with shared interests stay more connected, Internet addiction and social network addiction in
particular also started being recognized as psychological disorders all over the world. While several
90′s studies focused on Internet addiction, the next decade saw the growth of a new addiction related
to all manner of social networking sites, especially the current king of the jungle: Facebook. In a
recent study from the University of Athens, Greek psychiatrists argued that a woman who had gone as

It has been over 13 years since pioneer Kimberley S. Young adapted the DSM IV criteria for gambling
addictions to define Internet addiction. While her proposed diagnosis criteria have virally spread (to
use a familiar term related to social networking) all over the world, it seems that the scientific
community is not yet ready to reach a consensus as to what this type of addiction entails. Social
networks have changed the ways we interact with each other enormously. One thing that has changed
dramatically is the concept of meeting people. This was brought to my attention a couple of weeks
ago, when I met a musician for the first time, whom I had casually crossed online a couple of times.
Oddly enough, none of us acted as if this were a first meeting. Another thing that called my attention
was when another musician said from the stage thank you for coming; because a lot of people say they
are attending on Facebook but they never show up. This also made me think about how much time we
are devoting to talking about Facebook, even when we are offline, and how many times we log on to
Facebook to show our friends something, even during actual person to person meetings or social
gatherings. Every drug has a gratification component, and, if social networks are causing an addiction,
they must have one too. A very

Smartphones Dependence
The Dependence of People on Smartphones.
The excessive use of smartphones has not only changed the way we see technology but also the way
we live our lives. In the year 2000, the first touch screen phone was introduced and people who loved
technology were amazed by this cellphone technology that did not required a physical keypad to work
or access the cellphone main menu, although not that many special features were added to this
cellphone besides the digital touch screen tech lovers fell in love with this device almost instantly
because of the futuristic idea of replacing buttons with a digital touchscreen. Even though this

Another major and maybe one of the most influential impacts of the smartphones in our society
nowadays is a system called face time or video calling, it is supposed to keep friends not just in touch
but face to face using a smartphone device to see each other live. Personally, I believe face time isn t
really that bad when it comes to staying in touch with friends who live far away but I have also
noticed some friends who live maybe 1 mile or 2 away from each other using face time instead to
going to each other s houses and have a conversation and enjoy friendship like in good old times now
with this technology that it supposed to be facilitating our lives seems to be depriving us from life
itself.
In Conclusion, I would first like to state that the reason I feel this way about smartphones is because I
used to depend on the use of my smartphone more than the use of any other book, the opinion of any
other person, or sometimes common sense itself. I had become addicted to the use of my smartphone
and didn t know I was excessively using my device to accomplish tasks that I would do before without
the need of this device,

Example Of Symbiosis
Year 9 Science Ecology
Symbiosis
Symbiosis
Symbiosis is the relationship between two living organisms. The main types of symbiosis are
mutualism, parasitism and commensalism. The association between the two organisms can be
beneficial to one or two of the species or in some cases be harmful, depending on the type of
symbiosis.
Commensalism
Commensalism is a biological term which is used to describe the relationship between two living
organisms, where in which one benefits from the other without harming it. Commensal species
benefits from its host by obtaining food, shelter, transportation and other support. The host species is
rarely ever harmed by the Commensal species. The term commensalism was founded in 1876 by
Belgian Paleontologist and Zoologist Pierre Joseph Van Brenden. Commensalisms comes from the

The History Of Sexuality, By Michel Foucault
In the History of Sexuality Vol. 1, Michel Foucault writes the body as a constructed and manipulated
agent, the locus of sociopolitical discourse and power. To Foucault, the body cannot exist before the
law (that which holds and ascribes its meaning). Similarly, sexuality cannot free itself from relations
of power (Butler 1989:603). Indeed, the body is culturally contested; it is incapable of independence
from any particular structuralized narrative. The ubiquitous yet uncertain subject of sex, as Foucault
describes, is an imaginary point, the consequence of materiality fully invested with ideas (Butler
1989:603). He writes; Nothing in man not even his body is sufficiently stable to serve as the basis for
self recognition or for understanding other men (Foucault 1980:153). The culturally constructed body
then, asserts a multitude of identities. The body is molded by distinct regimes of life, broken down by
rhythms of work, rest, and holiday uprooted by cultural significant values, habits and moral laws
(Foucault 1980:153). The legality of the body within the context of transactional sex has been a
subject of constant debate, primarily limited to a severe binary whereby the focus on decriminalization

Symptoms And Treatment Of Trypanosoma Brucei
Trypanosoma brucei is a member of the Trypanosomatidae family, is protozoan of order
Kinetoplastida. They cause African trypanosomiasis or sleeping sickness as it is most commonly
known, a parasitic disease it causes an infection in the brain and the meninges (Stanghellini Josenando
2001). Trypanosoma brucei have 3 different sub species, these being T. brucei gambiense which
causes chronic trypanosomiasis which has a slow onset in humans, T. brucei rhodesiense which causes
acute trypanosomiasis with a fast onset. With the last sub species being T. brucei brucei which causes
animal African Trypanosomiasis. It is a neglected tropical disease and is found primarily in the
continent of Africa with up to 60 million people affected in 35 African countries. Failure to treat this is
fatal (Ekwanzala et al. 1996), however there are currently four drugs on the market for the treatment,
these being pentamidine, melarsoprol, eflornithine and suramin (Wéry 1994).
There are 2 forms of Trypanosoma brucei, these being bloodstream form and the procyclic form
(Colasante et al. 2006). The bloodstream form should be eradicated by the adaptive immune response,
but this is prevented by the variable surface glycoproteins(Overath et al. 1994). These are adaptable as
they form a new unique set of proteins every 1/100 cell divisions to evade the surface protein specific
response. Trypomastigotes can multiply in the bloodstream as the slender form where once the
population is high enough,

Political Theories And Ideology Of Liberal Democracy Essay
Many challenges put a stress on Modern Democracy because of the political theories and ideology our
government holds, the current politicians taking office, inequalities throughout social classes and
economies, and the opinions of We the People . Nearly every country claims to be some form of a
democracy, but not all these self proclaimed democracies allow for free politics, good government,
and rule of law (Crick, 2002). Liberal democracy has begun to win over its royalist, fascist, and
collectivist rivals over the course of the last few centuries, and the freedom to vote has been steadily
expanded to those who were without it. But the liberal democracies of the world do have problems.
Democracy is only as good as its citizens, and the quality of those citizens demands certain constant
factors (7 Concerns, 2012).
Gerrymandering is the process in which political boundaries are redraw or changed in order to benefit
one political party over another one; if one party has power of the state legislature, then they can
change political boundaries to maximize their chances of winning congressional districts to win an
election. By doing this, unfair and skewed results are produced because redrawn lines can be made to
help one party win over the other, since constituents for the losing party will be divided between
districts (Tormsen, 2015). This will also allow the winning party to win more electoral votes and seats
(Tormsen, 2015). This practice is uniquely American and can be

Analysis Of Caricature Of Humanity In The Runner
Caricature of Humanity The Runner by DeLillo tells of a self absorbed runner who is witnessing a
mysterious kidnapping without caring about it. The runner is a perfect portrayal of uncaring citizens,
who lack empathy with others unless they are directly connected to them. While running, the narrator
witnesses a car pulling onto the lawn, this is odd but he ignores it, it appears he does not care about
other people, he prefers to continue running. The narrator notices that a car came off the road,
bouncing onto the sloped lawn. (47) The runner is seeing a car come off the road onto the grass in the
park where he is running. Since the narrator is not stopping to investigate he appears self absorbed and
selfishly uncurious. The runner s neighbor explains she, heard the car when it came over the curb.
More or less bang on the grass. The father gets out and takes the little boy. (49) His neighbor just
witnessed a child being kidnapped, although she does not know anyone involved, she assumes the
kidnapper is the boy s father. The runner seems disinterested in both the kidnapping and his neighbor s
opinion. He seems to feel the kidnapping shouldn t concern him; he wasn t kidnapped, and he didn t
know who was. Why should he care? What the runner doesn t realize is that this affects him
emotionally and physically. This is a community concern. Whether or not the father was the kidnapper
the entire area becomes concerned with safety. The runner, without thinking, crushes his neighbor s
ideal situation even though he does not seem to care about the kidnapping. The narrator questions his
neighbor and hears her response You can t be sure, can you? I saw them both and I saw the child.
(50)When asked if she was sure the father was the kidnapper the neighbor states she saw the mother,
the child, and the kidnapper. This implies that she does not know the real situation, but is merely
projecting the most ideal situation. The viewpoint of the neighbor is interesting because our main
character disagrees with the idea that the father was just taking his child. Although this is the ideal
situation for both the child and the bystanders the runner takes a cynical view. This most likely means
he would rather

Warsaw Ghetto During The Holocaust
The Holocaust can be described as the prosecution and death of about six million Jews in Europe by
the Nazis between 1933 and 1945. Other ethnic groups like pygmies were destroyed as well. The
Holocaust started when Hitler became Chancellor in 1933 and passed decree/laws removing Jews as
citizens of the country. Overtime when the Nazis occupied majority of Europe, the Jews were forced
to move out of their homes to live in specific areas under harsh conditions which are also known as
ghettos and were later transferred to the death camps. The ghettos could be described as the Jewish
city districts in which the Jews were meant to live in order to be separated from the Non Jewish
population. One of the biggest types of ghettos was the Warsaw Ghetto in Poland where more than
400,000 Jews were crowded into an area of 1.3 square miles and were living in harsh conditions. This
was established On October 12 1940 after the decree the establishment of a ghetto in Warsaw. All
Jewish residents of Warsaw were supposed to move into a small area, which was eventually sealed by
the Nazis from the other citizens in November 1940. The ghetto was enclosed by a wall that was over
10 feet high, topped with barbed wire, and closely guarded to prevent movement between the ghetto
and the rest of Warsaw. The end of 1940 found Warsaw Jews confined to a 1.36 square mile area that
was surrounded by a 10 foot wall topped with barbed wire and broken glass. Within the ghetto there
was considerable

Water Quality Analysis Of The Potable And Environmental Water
In this research project I conducted the water quality analysis of both the potable and environmental
water at various village sites, and in the New River Lagoon in Belize. The data collected in this project
contributed to the data collected over the past decade by previous McMaster fellows and scholars.
Moreover, we conveyed the results from this study to the community partners in the villages San
Carlos, Rancho Dolores, and with the Programme for Belize the managing entity of Rio Bravo
Conservation and Management Area ( RBCMA ) which borders the New River Lagoon. In the project
we tested for bacterial contaminants, nitrate nitrogen, phosphorous, dissolved oxygen, pH, free
chlorine, and ammonia levels.
In this project we continue to analyze new samples and the baseline data for any trends in high or low
levels of chemicals, as well as to keep the Belizean community appraised of any hazards or
precautions they should be taking for their drinking water. By collaborating with our Belize
community partners, we are able to discuss possible solutions as to better techniques for cleaner water
or more efficient solutions to using clean safe drinking water.
Water is a necessity, but, when water becomes polluted with chemicals, both inorganic and organic, it
makes it difficult to use water for the health benefits and sanitation it is normally used for. Good water
quality is especially vital for Belize, as they are largely an agricultural country. The data collected by

Loris Malaguzzi s Impact On Education
Loris Malaguzzi was one of the greatest pioneers in the educational field. Born in Correggio, Italy in
the year 1920, he grew up in Fascist, Italy going through the six years of war that devoured his youth
as is described in the scholastic website (Pioneers in Our Field, 2001). Malaguzzi decided to become
an educator through his father s encouragement, and so he enrolled in a training course for future
educators in 1939 and was able to complete it during the war. Malaguzzi graduated from Pedagogy to
become a primary school teacher, and later went off to study psychology. In doing so he introduced his
lifetime work of education to his interests and experience in many of the arts: theatre, journalism,
sports and politics. According to the Bali ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Each individual has an image of the child that directs on how they can relate through their own
experiences. Malaguzzi states that this theory, within one s self pushes them to behave in certain ways
that depend on your views of the child. This will orient someone as they talk to the child, listen to
them, and in their observation. It will become very difficult for a person to behave on contrary to their
behavior. An example of such behavior would be say that one is solely convinced that boys and girls
are different, chances are that this method of thinking will influence one to treat and behave
differently between the boys and girls (Malaguzzi, 1994). In other words, it is possible that he is
stating that one should not immediately conclude on who the child is before even getting to know
them. The vision of Reggio Emilia schools is always changing, but its goal is always the same. The
scholastic website states that the continuous of the philosophy can best be described in Malaguzzi s
words: What children learn does not follow as an automatic result from what is taught. Rather, it is in
large part due to the children s own doing as a consequence of their activities and our resources

Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra Essay
The Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra s performance of Mahler s Symphony No. 5 at the Berlin
Philharmonie, gifted the audience with a masterful rendition of the movements within the symphony.
The Symphony divides into three separate parts, in which the movements complement each other s
characteristics. The symphony orchestra features a myriad of orchestral instruments featuring the
Brass, Woodwinds, Strings, and Percussion families. Furthermore, the various movements throughout
the performance utilize various musical concepts that bring the music to life. Albeit, the complexity of
Mahler s symphony, the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra performed superbly throughout the
performance. The five movements of Mahler s symphony complement each other in three different
parts throughout the performance. For instance, the first movement Trauermarsch presents a somber
mood that complements the intensity of the second movement Stürmisch bewegt, mit größter

trumpet solo in movement I Trauermarsch, exemplifies monophony within the movement composed in
rondo form. Next, the fast tempo of Movement II Stürmisch bewegt, mit größter Vehemenz represents
allegretto, whilst featuring a myriad of discords until reaching the final resolution. Furthermore,
Movement III Scherzo, represents an abrupt shift in the symphony s style switching from the dark
minor scale of movements I and II to the more jubilant major scale. Moreover, Movement IV
Adagietto slows the symphony s tempo to adagio, and only employs the use of the Stringed
instruments. Last but not least, Movement IV Rondo Finale speeds up the symphony once more up to
Allegro, ending in a dramatic climax with a brief cadence. Mahler s Symphony no. 5 took the
audience on a musical rollercoaster, employing countless musical

Theme Of The Animals In That Country
Atwood constantly pits civilization against the wilderness surrounding it and society against the
savagery from which it arose. She considers these oppositions to be some of the defining principles of
Canadian literature. They also provide a metaphor for the divisions within the human personality.
Society, civilization, and culture represent the rational, contained side of humanity, while the wild
forest represents the very opposite: the irrational, primeval, and carnal impulses that exist in every
living being. In The Animals in That Country, Atwood dramatizes the civilized urge to ignore the
wildness lurking just over the horizon: in Progressive Insanities of a Pioneer, she captures this theme
with particular vividness: In the darkness the fields / defend themselves with fences / in vain: /
everything / is getting in. Atwood elaborates on the uselessness of defending oneself against the
wilderness in The Journals of Susanna Moodie, an account of a European immigrant s struggles to
navigate the wildernesses of Canada, her adopted home. Almost every poem deals with this tension in
some form. In This is a photograph of me, the serene natural setting presents a startling contrast to the
human tragedy it masks. The glossy [m]ountains and lakes and more lakes depicted on the wall in At
the Tourist Centre in Boston succeed only in reminding the viewer of the gritty reality beneath the
pictures. In Siren Song, the jagged cliffs pulverize carefree sailors, who are in,

Demerit Point System
The Demerit Point System is a system where, because of driving convictions, demerit points will be
added to your licence. Based on the amount of points and the type of licence (fully licensed or not),
different actions and consequences will be taken. The severities of the convictions will also determine
the amount of points added.
7 point infractions include failing to stop when ordered by a police officer and failing to remain at the
scene of a collision. Some 6 point infractions include exceeding the speed limit by 50 km/hour or
more, racing, and careless driving. 5 demerit points will be added for bus drivers if they fail to stop at

  • 2. Personal Narrative-Grounded In My Voice At the start of the semester I had become more aware and grounded in my voice. In my everyday life, I would notice if I was holding my breath. The reason for this was because over the summer I had to stand up to one of my shut up judges, my dad. The incident was extremely emotional, and I coped with it through the use of my actor training; instead of checking out and holding tension, I chose to breathe deeply and stay grounded. This allowed me to speak up even when I was told to shut up. This awareness of breath was developed through necessity rather than choice. I had to be strong. My strength didn t only come from being grounded in my breath, but it also came using breathe to stay present in the room. The use of breath also allowed me to go into my body and release the build up of emotions. As a result of these experiences, my voice was able to drop more consistently to my lower resonator rather than my typical chest voice. The new drop in my voice had its own challenges as well. One, of course, was to avoid reverting into old habits. When it comes to voice work, effort should be applied every day. Just because I was breathing deep one day, doesn t mean I am allowed to stop the next day. Throughout this whole semester, I ve had to continuously be aware of my voice and breath. The interesting thing was that I would be holding my ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... • 3. Social Media Has Become A Political Outlet For Civilians... With the advancing globalized society that we live in, social media has become a political outlet for civilians of the interconnected world. Through this technological circuit, citizens are able to speak freely about the issues that concern them, giving them the ability to connect with others who share the same perspective. Looking through a development perspective, it is evident that social media outlets, for example twitter, have lead to major political uproar, such as the Arab Uprisings of 2011, or as popularized by the Western media, The Arab Spring . At this time, the demands of the protestors in the Arab region indicated their desire for greater social and economic justice and were made as a response to the growing concern regarding the Egyptian economy s tie into the capitalist world market (Haynes, 2013). The Arab Spring was not solely a revolt against authoritarian regimes but also expressions of a crisis caused by the imbalanced social order brought upon by neoliberal policies (Bogaert, 2013). During this time, citizenry relied heavily on social media to spread information and promote insurgent agendas. Globalization and the technological facets of our hegemonic society have allowed for regular civilians to become part of the political system as exemplified through the use of social media during the Arab Spring. December 2010 was the commencement of a milestone in the Middle East, as resentment towards the lack of freedom, unemployment, and declining wages led to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. 1984 A Dystopian Society Essay The astounding book 1984 is a dystopian novel written by the famous English author George Orwell. Winston Smith, the main character, faces thoughtcrime, sexcrime, and Room 101 in the mind bending, teeth clenching story. The novel follows Winston as he takes his journey of life in the war ridden, filthy, Oceania. His enemy: The Party. The Party, the power that governs Oceania, tends to make life seem sweet and savory, when in reality, it is disgusting. Poverty, filth, death, and hate fill the society. War is constant. Hate towards the enemy is a daily routine. And nothing, nor no one, is in favor of the people. The Party imagines Oceania as a utopian society, but Winston, and the Party both know that it is a true dystopia. The form of government practiced in Oceania is totalitarianism. This form of government can be best described as a dictatorship. It is total control of all societal factors, the law, the economy, the church, the people, and in this case, thought. The Party uses this to their advantage. By having full control, they can manipulate and use the people to their full benefit. It can be easily agreed that in a dystopian society, the government s intentions are not benevolent, but instead, self serving. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... If caught, the people will be dragged away to the Ministry of Love, and no one knows what happens there except its victims. The Party is selfish. They want everyone to be on their side. Free Trade Agreements In NAFTA states that are part of NAFTA such as Canada and the U.S. This active participation by the state has created a legal and political infrastructure that has given Canada its neoliberal identity and has allowed free trade to exist (McBride McNutt, 2007, p.186). Free Trade agreements such as NAFTA have decreased workers power and quality of life. NAFTA, which has extended protections for investors, has excluded protections of labour standards and worker rights (Faux as cited in NAFTA at Seven: Its impact on workers in all three nations, 2001, p.1). There is no Labour rights section in any chapter of NAFTA but is rather a side agreement which is troublesome for workers and unions (Kay, 2015, p.257). • 7. The Negative Effects Of Television Violence Children aged five to sixteen spend an average of six and a half hours a day in front of a screen... (Wakefield). But unfortunately, much of the television today is full of violence. Scientists believe that the effects of TV violence can cause children and teenagers to become immune to the consequence of violence, unable to handle their problems in a healthy form, and cause them to copy the violent behavior they see on the television. Therefore, there needs to be a removal of violence from cartoons such as the ones on Boomerang, as it is negatively affecting children. One cause from the effect of violence from TV is, it can cause children or teenagers to become immune to the consequence of violence, terror or horror. Children and teenagers can become immune as a result of violence when they watch violent cartoons. One opposing this might state that if we have a removal of violent cartoons that takes away the right to choose what people can watch on television. But, the people against the removal of violence from cartoons may not understand how much violence children are seeing for every hour they watch cartoons. Studies by George Gerbner, Ph.D., at the University of Pennsylvania, have shown that children s TV shows contain about 20 violent acts each our (CMU). Eventually, this could cause them to be immune to the violence if they are watching it for the average amount per day, six and a half hours. I know I did many times and the truth is that I am torn when it comes to timeouts sometimes In my experience, time out is totally ineffective and sometimes it allows children to get away and relax this helps them to calm down which has a huge impact on a child s behavior. So I am left to think and wonder our time outs good or bad? Is there really a right or wrong way to give a time out? Will this be the next big debate? • 12. Leadership In Tim O Brien s Gung Ho ! Gung Ho! This book report exemplified the character of leadership to me. Not only in business but in life, leadership is very important when your goal is success. Being a leader is about glorifying your name to the public. Being a leader means staying keeping yourself focus and maintaining your team focus as well. Being a part of athletics taught me that there is no I, in team. Being about I , will leave you as failure and in the sports world a loser. This concept goes right along with the business world. When operating a business if you are not careful about the treatment of your employees, manufacturing area, or clientele then you re bound to not reach the expectations as created. This book attracted me to choose it for many reasons. When I first saw the cover page of the book , I thought of a famous Chinese male because of the name Gung Ho! I look up to a lot of famous Chinese businessmen such as Jack ma, Lei Jun, and my favorite Chinese billionaire Wang Jianlin. So the name really stood out to me and caught my attention to view more of the book. Secondly what brought me to choose this book, was the sentence turn on the people in any organization . I immediately asked myself what does that even mean. Questions stormed into my head such as, did the owner turn his back on all of his employees? Did the employees turn their back on the owner and sought out law cases against the owner? Those are only a few questions I asked myself regarding that sentence, I had plenty of more. This book is relevant to this class because it described different scenarios that any manager would go through when emerging into a new atmosphere. You never know how it will play out, but the way you view things as a person and how serious you take your job will decide if your business will be successful or crash like the ones before. In class we discuss business opportunities and what character traits a successful manager possesses. The manager in this book showed dedication, heart , decision making, and a listening ear within uncomfortable situations. This manager exemplified what the inside of a general manager s life displayed. There are several points with the book that relates to what we learn in class. The first key point that ... • 16. The Future Of Natural Gas And Crude Oil The Future of Natural Gas and Crude Oil Throughout history, as well as present day, the usage of natural gas has played an immense role in our everyday life. However, over recent decades, the extraction and usage of natural gas has become a more frequent topic of debate. Even though extraction of natural gas and crude oil has been proven to boost the global economy, people still question weather these methods of extraction will ultimately destroy our planet. There is an abundance unconventional and conventional reservoirs of oil and gas under the surface, each with the potential to increase the production of both resources vastly. Advancements in engineering, such as hydraulic fracturing and horizontal drilling, have allowed us to take advantage of all aspects of these varying reservoirs. With this impending influx of resources, many regions will see an increase in production and consumption. Throughout this paper, we will discuss the current methods of extraction, the uses of natural gas both past and present, and the US export ban of crude oil. Finally, after reviewing the reasons behind the current low prices on energy, we can make projections for the future of natural gas. Shale production and fracking methods have opened a whole world to the oil and gas industry. Just like the nuclear power, oil and shale gas are being used in wide varieties such as: vehicles and energy. Furthermore; natural gas and oil are used in a wider range than nuclear power. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It has been over 13 years since pioneer Kimberley S. Young adapted the DSM IV criteria for gambling addictions to define Internet addiction. While her proposed diagnosis criteria have virally spread (to use a familiar term related to social networking) all over the world, it seems that the scientific community is not yet ready to reach a consensus as to what this type of addiction entails. Social networks have changed the ways we interact with each other enormously. One thing that has changed dramatically is the concept of meeting people. This was brought to my attention a couple of weeks ago, when I met a musician for the first time, whom I had casually crossed online a couple of times. Oddly enough, none of us acted as if this were a first meeting. Another thing that called my attention was when another musician said from the stage thank you for coming; because a lot of people say they are attending on Facebook but they never show up. This also made me think about how much time we are devoting to talking about Facebook, even when we are offline, and how many times we log on to Facebook to show our friends something, even during actual person to person meetings or social gatherings. Every drug has a gratification component, and, if social networks are causing an addiction, they must have one too. A very ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

In the year 2000, the first touch screen phone was introduced and people who loved technology were amazed by this cellphone technology that did not required a physical keypad to work or access the cellphone main menu, although not that many special features were added to this cellphone besides the digital touch screen tech lovers fell in love with this device almost instantly because of the futuristic idea of replacing buttons with a digital touchscreen. Another major and maybe one of the most influential impacts of the smartphones in our society nowadays is a system called face time or video calling, it is supposed to keep friends not just in touch but face to face using a smartphone device to see each other live. Personally, I believe face time isn t really that bad when it comes to staying in touch with friends who live far away but I have also noticed some friends who live maybe 1 mile or 2 away from each other using face time instead to going to each other s houses and have a conversation and enjoy friendship like in good old times now with this technology that it supposed to be facilitating our lives seems to be depriving us from life itself. In Conclusion, I would first like to state that the reason I feel this way about smartphones is because I used to depend on the use of my smartphone more than the use of any other book, the opinion of any other person, or sometimes common sense itself. I had become addicted to the use of my smartphone and didn t know I was excessively using my device to accomplish tasks that I would do before without the need of this device, ... The main types of symbiosis are mutualism, parasitism and commensalism. The association between the two organisms can be beneficial to one or two of the species or in some cases be harmful, depending on the type of symbiosis. Commensalism Commensalism is a biological term which is used to describe the relationship between two living organisms, where in which one benefits from the other without harming it. Commensal species benefits from its host by obtaining food, shelter, transportation and other support. The host species is rarely ever harmed by the Commensal species. The term commensalism was founded in 1876 by Belgian Paleontologist and Zoologist Pierre Joseph Van Brenden. Commensalisms comes from the latin word commensalis which translates to sharing a table . • 21. The History Of Sexuality, By Michel Foucault In the History of Sexuality Vol. 1, Michel Foucault writes the body as a constructed and manipulated agent, the locus of sociopolitical discourse and power. To Foucault, the body cannot exist before the law (that which holds and ascribes its meaning). Similarly, sexuality cannot free itself from relations of power (Butler 1989:603). Indeed, the body is culturally contested; it is incapable of independence from any particular structuralized narrative. The ubiquitous yet uncertain subject of sex, as Foucault describes, is an imaginary point, the consequence of materiality fully invested with ideas (Butler 1989:603). He writes; Nothing in man not even his body is sufficiently stable to serve as the basis for self recognition or for understanding other men (Foucault 1980:153). The culturally constructed body then, asserts a multitude of identities. The body is molded by distinct regimes of life, broken down by rhythms of work, rest, and holiday uprooted by cultural significant values, habits and moral laws (Foucault 1980:153). The legality of the body within the context of transactional sex has been a subject of constant debate, primarily limited to a severe binary whereby the focus on decriminalization rest upon the idea of human agency and the victimization of the body. Central to these narratives is, of course, the female form. On one end of the spectrum, anti prostitution activists argue that women involved in the sex trade industry are but victims of an unjust ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

They cause African trypanosomiasis or sleeping sickness as it is most commonly known, a parasitic disease it causes an infection in the brain and the meninges (Stanghellini Josenando 2001). Trypanosoma brucei have 3 different sub species, these being T. brucei gambiense which causes chronic trypanosomiasis which has a slow onset in humans, T. brucei rhodesiense which causes acute trypanosomiasis with a fast onset. With the last sub species being T. brucei brucei which causes animal African Trypanosomiasis. It is a neglected tropical disease and is found primarily in the continent of Africa with up to 60 million people affected in 35 African countries. Failure to treat this is fatal (Ekwanzala et al. 1996), however there are currently four drugs on the market for the treatment, these being pentamidine, melarsoprol, eflornithine and suramin (Wéry 1994). There are 2 forms of Trypanosoma brucei, these being bloodstream form and the procyclic form (Colasante et al. 2006). The bloodstream form should be eradicated by the adaptive immune response, but this is prevented by the variable surface glycoproteins(Overath et al. 1994). These are adaptable as they form a new unique set of proteins every 1/100 cell divisions to evade the surface protein specific response. • 23. Political Theories And Ideology Of Liberal Democracy Essay Many challenges put a stress on Modern Democracy because of the political theories and ideology our government holds, the current politicians taking office, inequalities throughout social classes and economies, and the opinions of We the People . Nearly every country claims to be some form of a democracy, but not all these self proclaimed democracies allow for free politics, good government, and rule of law (Crick, 2002). Liberal democracy has begun to win over its royalist, fascist, and collectivist rivals over the course of the last few centuries, and the freedom to vote has been steadily expanded to those who were without it. But the liberal democracies of the world do have problems. Democracy is only as good as its citizens, and the quality of those citizens demands certain constant factors (7 Concerns, 2012). Gerrymandering is the process in which political boundaries are redraw or changed in order to benefit one political party over another one; if one party has power of the state legislature, then they can change political boundaries to maximize their chances of winning congressional districts to win an election. By doing this, unfair and skewed results are produced because redrawn lines can be made to help one party win over the other, since constituents for the losing party will be divided between districts (Tormsen, 2015). This will also allow the winning party to win more electoral votes and seats (Tormsen, 2015). This practice is uniquely American and can be ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 25. Analysis Of Caricature Of Humanity In The Runner Caricature of Humanity The Runner by DeLillo tells of a self absorbed runner who is witnessing a mysterious kidnapping without caring about it. The runner is a perfect portrayal of uncaring citizens, who lack empathy with others unless they are directly connected to them. While running, the narrator witnesses a car pulling onto the lawn, this is odd but he ignores it, it appears he does not care about other people, he prefers to continue running. The narrator notices that a car came off the road, bouncing onto the sloped lawn. (47) The runner is seeing a car come off the road onto the grass in the park where he is running. Since the narrator is not stopping to investigate he appears self absorbed and selfishly uncurious. The runner s neighbor explains she, heard the car when it came over the curb. More or less bang on the grass. The father gets out and takes the little boy. (49) His neighbor just witnessed a child being kidnapped, although she does not know anyone involved, she assumes the kidnapper is the boy s father. The runner seems disinterested in both the kidnapping and his neighbor s opinion. He seems to feel the kidnapping shouldn t concern him; he wasn t kidnapped, and he didn t know who was. Why should he care? What the runner doesn t realize is that this affects him emotionally and physically. This is a community concern. Whether or not the father was the kidnapper the entire area becomes concerned with safety. The runner, without thinking, crushes his neighbor s ideal situation even though he does not seem to care about the kidnapping. The narrator questions his neighbor and hears her response You can t be sure, can you? I saw them both and I saw the child. (50)When asked if she was sure the father was the kidnapper the neighbor states she saw the mother, the child, and the kidnapper. This implies that she does not know the real situation, but is merely projecting the most ideal situation. The viewpoint of the neighbor is interesting because our main character disagrees with the idea that the father was just taking his child. Although this is the ideal situation for both the child and the bystanders the runner takes a cynical view. This most likely means he would rather ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 26. Warsaw Ghetto During The Holocaust The Holocaust can be described as the prosecution and death of about six million Jews in Europe by the Nazis between 1933 and 1945. Other ethnic groups like pygmies were destroyed as well. The Holocaust started when Hitler became Chancellor in 1933 and passed decree/laws removing Jews as citizens of the country. Overtime when the Nazis occupied majority of Europe, the Jews were forced to move out of their homes to live in specific areas under harsh conditions which are also known as ghettos and were later transferred to the death camps. The ghettos could be described as the Jewish city districts in which the Jews were meant to live in order to be separated from the Non Jewish population. One of the biggest types of ghettos was the Warsaw Ghetto in Poland where more than 400,000 Jews were crowded into an area of 1.3 square miles and were living in harsh conditions. This was established On October 12 1940 after the decree the establishment of a ghetto in Warsaw. All Jewish residents of Warsaw were supposed to move into a small area, which was eventually sealed by the Nazis from the other citizens in November 1940. The ghetto was enclosed by a wall that was over 10 feet high, topped with barbed wire, and closely guarded to prevent movement between the ghetto and the rest of Warsaw. The end of 1940 found Warsaw Jews confined to a 1.36 square mile area that was surrounded by a 10 foot wall topped with barbed wire and broken glass. Within the ghetto there was considerable ... • 27. Water Quality Analysis Of The Potable And Environmental Water In this research project I conducted the water quality analysis of both the potable and environmental water at various village sites, and in the New River Lagoon in Belize. The data collected in this project contributed to the data collected over the past decade by previous McMaster fellows and scholars. Moreover, we conveyed the results from this study to the community partners in the villages San Carlos, Rancho Dolores, and with the Programme for Belize the managing entity of Rio Bravo Conservation and Management Area ( RBCMA ) which borders the New River Lagoon. In the project we tested for bacterial contaminants, nitrate nitrogen, phosphorous, dissolved oxygen, pH, free chlorine, and ammonia levels. In this project we continue to analyze new samples and the baseline data for any trends in high or low levels of chemicals, as well as to keep the Belizean community appraised of any hazards or precautions they should be taking for their drinking water. By collaborating with our Belize community partners, we are able to discuss possible solutions as to better techniques for cleaner water or more efficient solutions to using clean safe drinking water. Water is a necessity, but, when water becomes polluted with chemicals, both inorganic and organic, it makes it difficult to use water for the health benefits and sanitation it is normally used for. Malaguzzi states that this theory, within one s self pushes them to behave in certain ways that depend on your views of the child. An example of such behavior would be say that one is solely convinced that boys and girls are different, chances are that this method of thinking will influence one to treat and behave differently between the boys and girls (Malaguzzi, 1994). In other words, it is possible that he is stating that one should not immediately conclude on who the child is before even getting to know them. The vision of Reggio Emilia schools is always changing, but its goal is always the same. The scholastic website states that the continuous of the philosophy can best be described in Malaguzzi s words: What children learn does not follow as an automatic result from what is taught. • 31. Theme Of The Animals In That Country Atwood constantly pits civilization against the wilderness surrounding it and society against the savagery from which it arose. She considers these oppositions to be some of the defining principles of Canadian literature. They also provide a metaphor for the divisions within the human personality. Society, civilization, and culture represent the rational, contained side of humanity, while the wild forest represents the very opposite: the irrational, primeval, and carnal impulses that exist in every living being. In The Animals in That Country, Atwood dramatizes the civilized urge to ignore the wildness lurking just over the horizon: in Progressive Insanities of a Pioneer, she captures this theme with particular vividness: In the darkness the fields / defend themselves with fences / in vain: / everything / is getting in. Atwood elaborates on the uselessness of defending oneself against the wilderness in The Journals of Susanna Moodie, an account of a European immigrant s struggles to navigate the wildernesses of Canada, her adopted home. Almost every poem deals with this tension in some form. In This is a photograph of me, the serene natural setting presents a startling contrast to the human tragedy it masks.
