Lars Von Trier s Dancer in the Dark is a cruel film because the hardship Selma must face and the
her tragic ending. When the audience is first introduced to Selma, she is perceived by her petite
figure which gives the illusion of innocence. She constantly stays attached to a world of
daydream and positivity with bustling musical fantasies. She seems to exemplify happiness in
the face of adversity. From the lack of money and the risk of working, tragedy seems to follow
Selma, as if it is the norm. From her loss of vision to her struggle to remain a float and nurture
her child. Von Trier uses knows how to use effectively upset the crowd with his harsh choice to

Informative Speech On Pilates
It s no secret to those who know me that I love Pilates. In fact, I ve written about it a few times in
the past (and probably will again). In today s post, I share with you some of my journey toward
healing, and ways in which Pilates is a useful, therapeutic tool to help you on your road to recovery.
The word challenging does not even begin to describe the starting point of my health struggles.
For years, I battled an ever growing list of strange symptoms until a doctor diagnosed me with
Chronic Fatigue Syndrome in 2010. Despite doing everything right all that my doctor told me to
do my body became frailer by the day, and weight inexplicably dropped from my 5 foot 6 inch
frame.
Soon after my diagnosis, a series of life altering events occurred; I lost my job, my car, most of my
friends, my ability to sleep, financial ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Here are five ways Pilates can help you heal from Lyme Disease.
1. Pilates helps reconnect your mind and your body.
You might feel as though your body has betrayed you, and like you have no control over what s
happening to you. Pilates gently helps you find a mind body connection where you are in charge of
the muscles you utilize through a concept known as concentration.
When you focus or concentrate, your attention on the muscles working during an exercise, you
become aware of just how much each muscle is working. By using your mind to direct, your body s
actions, you are in charge; you make the movement happen.
A consistent Pilates practice enhances your understanding of this mind body connection and allows
you to see that although many things may not be in your control, you still have the power to make
specific changes to movements that feel right to you. Knowing that your mind and body can work
together to help you heal is a very encouraging thought.
2. Pilates helps balance the

The Broken Window Theory Of Crime
Criminologist James Q. Wilson and George Kelling developed the Broken Window theory .
According to their theory they believed that crime is the inevitable result of disorder (Gladwell
155). The broken window theory is known as a disorder and as chaos, therefore, crimes become
an issue due to the fact that the impression of no one being in charge causes crimes to happen
one after another and worsening along the way. An example often used is a broken window,
which leads to another broken window, to graffiti, to loitering, etc. The disorder, the chaos and
the abandonment of something or a place causes crimes to be followed one after another crime
is contagious (Gladwell 155). According to the broken window theory, broken windows should
not be left alone. They should be fixed in order for crime to decrease; therefor broken windows
should not be tolerated due to the fact that it may cause an increase of crimes as well. The rise of
a question then forms from this theory, because many departments use the broken window
theory. Officers are known for keeping the law and keeping order. The officers are given a duty
of addressing minor life threatening offenses and social disorder, which prevents major crimes to
happen. They are to disapprove and stop crimes. But is the broken window theory broken itself
when it comes to law enforcement. Could they be doing more wrong than actually doing well?
Because officers are not only stopping crimes, but they are causing more trouble

Tao Te Ching Of Lao-Tzu Analysis
Tao Te Ching of Lao Tzu is a book with many chapters in it showing the two different sides to
basically everything. To break it down, Tao means path or way , Te means to get , and Ching
means great book . So the Tao was the force that controlled the universe and appreciated the way, to
find balance between opposites. The book, Tao Te Ching
has been said to been written by a Laozi
an old master and has been said that the true author (or authors ) name has been lost. In the
chapters between the book it tells how to live a life of integrity and of greatness per say. It also
has contradictions or paradoxes which allows us to see the both perspectives of each side. It shows
us that there are always two sides to everything. Tao Te Ching... Show more content on

It was the little things that he did that made my opinion change on him. You can t judge others on
their appearance because there might be beauty inside of them or ugliness inside of them either one.
The other contradiction in the Tao Te Ching was good and evil . This concept can kind of
connect back to the ugliness and beauty in the ugliness kind of being evil and beauty being good.
Of course, as it has already been expressed before by the author of this book, there are two sides
to everything. When things are good, they are good of course but there is always something that is
going to change that. The same thing happens when things are bad, they are bad but then it has to
change to good at some point.
What I thought of when I saw good and evil was the tree of knowledge of good and evil from the
Bible. In the Bible, near the beginning of the book Genesis 2:9 it says that there are two trees,
the tree of life and the tree of knowledge of good and evil. The Lord God made all kinds of trees
grow out of the ground trees that were pleasing to the eye and good for food. In the middle of
the garden were the tree of life and the tree of the knowledge of good and evil . When Adam and
Eve sinned and ate from the tree of knowledge of good and evil, that s when the concept of good
and evil became true. When things were going good, something would upset that and something
bad would happen. What I believe is that if Adam and Eve hadn t have sinned then

Soviet Union Failures
Since the fall of the Soviet Union, a multitude of factors has been attributed as the cause of its
disintegration, including, but not limited to: a failing economy, political fracturing, and ethnic
cleavages. In this paper I will argue that the dissolution of the Soviet Union resulted from a
combination of variables beginning with Gorbachev s economic and social reform policies. These
reforms brought to light the internal political factions in Soviet leadership thus leading to the
exploitation of ethno national divisions by officials seeking greater leadership and more power.
Therefore, ethnic divisions within the Soviet Uniondid not make disintegration inevitable, but were
rather a politically efficient lens for leaders to use in order to... Show more content on

From economic stagnation and decline, to fissures within the Soviet leadership, to the manipulation
and nurturing of nationalist values from politicians throughout the Soviet republics. These variables
joined together culminate a plausible explanation as to why the Soviet Union collapsed, but one
variable could not generate enough damage alone. The argument that ethnic divisions caused the
disintegration of the Soviet Union is no more feasible than the argument that the Soviet Union s
disintegration was unavoidable. In his article Leon Aron states, Nothing in history is automatic or
inevitable. The fact that something happened means neither that it had to happened nor that it
could have happened only in the way that it did (Aron, p. 25). This statement rings true to the
collapse of the Soviet Union, for its dissolution was not predicable nor was it expected, but it
happened nonetheless. As Treisman s argues, it was a series of accidents and bungling responses
which in the end culminated in the toppling of one of the 20th century s greatest global

Government Agencies and Health Policy
The United States Health Care system has evolved from the home visit by the town doctor concept,
to a more complex system of regulatory agencies, policies, rules and regulations that govern the
practice and art of medicine. It is a system in which billions of dollars have been budgeted and
dedicated to ensuring the country is delivering affordable, quality care. The ultimate goal of the
U.S. system is making sure quality care is accessible to its consumers and is value added care that
will result in clinical outcomes aimed at reducing the nation s mortality rate and increasing or

Essay on Maya Angelou Inspires Confidence in Women
Maya Angelou is not just known for being a poet, novelist, educator, producer, actor, musician,

It also shows the inner mystery of women that people cannot see or understand. In the first stanza
Pretty women under where my secret lies, she talks about all women accepting and loving
themselves just the way they are. Women should not try to compare themselves with what they see
on TV or in magazines. They should take pride in the amazing features that they were born with,
even though what we see in the media is describing as the idea image. This image of a perfect
woman is not real. In society today, there is no such thing as the perfect woman or man.
Everyone has flaws or different features that set us apart from one another. In the second stanza
I walk into a room just as cool as you please, talks about how a woman describes her body to
show self assuredness. Every action she describes how a woman can move a room as if she has
complete control of that room. It shows that she knows what she is doing and has every intention
of it. She knows that she may not be a coca cola bottle or a petite woman, but she is beautiful and
can steal people attention if she wants to. This leads to the third stanza My inner mystery. A woman
inner mystery is our confidence. We are confident when a man approaches us and talks to us. We
are also confident in what we do and believe. When people say that they cannot see what we have
to offer, we say our beauty. We feel like we can offer a lot with our beauty and

Q3 * What types of communication are integrated within Sametime s digital environment? What
type of communication is missing? Does it make a difference? * Reciprocal it goes between
two or more people changing rolls. * Linguistic and extra linguistic People communicate through
key board (chatting) or using some familiar codes. * Private and public The communication
inside the company can be private when it occurs between two employees or public when it goes
to everyone in the organization. (In fact, it is not totally private because the conversation can be
followed for the database system.) * Formal The messages use a formal code according to the
organization policies. * Horizontal and vertical It can occur in a same range people or from boss to
assistant.
What is missing here is the physical or interpersonal communication. It can make the difference
because when people talk they express a lot of feelings. The main advantage is that employees will
not realize if the other one is tired or in another bad situation.

How Luhrmann Portrays the Meeting of Romeo and Juliet In this essay, I will denote and
connote the hidden messages within Baz Luhrmanns modern day version of Romeo and Juliet. I
will explain what the messages mean, and what things are the hidden messages. I will analyse
the images and shots within the party scene that Romeo and Juliet first meet in. In the opening
shot, we hear diagetec sound. This sound is a woman singing a love song. This indicates that
there is some hidden love story within the film in which is about to be revealed to us. We see
Romeo trying to shake off a drug in which he has just taken, we see him in a very similar shot to

We can see that the fish tank actually acts as a barrier between the two of them. It stops them
from standing next to each other, from fully connecting. It symbolises the walls between their
two families, the war that keeps them apart, and eventually ends in tragedy. During the party, we
see many different costumes, the most obvious being Romeo and Juliet s. They both show
compatibility between the two of them. Juliet is wearing an angel costume showing her
innocence and purity. Romeo is wearing a knight s costume, showing nobility and honour. Juliet
s Mother comes to get her to dance with a man called Paris; Paris wants her to marry him. Her
family think he would be a perfect match for her, but his costume definitely says differently. He
is wearing an astronaut s costume; this costume shows that he is slightly out in space, away from
the rest of the world, possibly even self centred. Tibalt does not want Romeo in his families
house at all, especially not in his family; where as Romeo does not want violence! This shows
more of Romeos nobility and honour. It also illustrates more of the barrier between Romeo and
Juliet. It shows the side of their love that is forbidden. As

Abstract
The preamble of The Scheduled Tribes and Other Traditional ForestDwellers (Recognition of Forest
Rights) Act, 2006 (hereinafter referred to as the Forest Rights Act or FRA) states that the Act was
passed to undo the historical injustice committed against the forest dwelling Scheduled Tribes and
other traditional forest dwellers who have been residing in the forests for centuries, but whose
rights could not be recorded. It becomes imperative to understand the legal institutional structure of
the Indian government to better understand the decision making capabilities in regards to forests in
India. There are so many legalities and so many laws that are in place that it is a complex affair
to understand how law operates. With so many laws passed at different point of time and space it
is tough to really enforce these laws with them contradicting each other. For example according to
one law (Indian Forest Act), the forests fall under the jurisdiction of Ministry of Environment and
Forests, making forests property of the Indian government and in another law (Forest Rights Act),
the nodal agency is Ministry of Tribal Affairs and indigenous people are also considered as a part

Logical Fallacies In The Media
All of the media address the subject of logical fallacies they define them, give examples of their
most common forms, and offer tips to avoid them as well as to identify them in our writing. A
good argument is one that contains good premises that effectively back up a conclusion. All points
must be presented in a logical way and must apply to reason. However, often arguments can
contain fallacies and be weak. Logical fallacies are flaws that diminish the validity and relevance of
an argument. They constitute weak reasoning . Some of the most common forms of logical fallacies
are: making unfounded generalizations or basing an argument on stereotypes, assuming that
correlation is the same thing as causation, presenting a premise in an argument

Happy Feet and Kung Fu Panda are two good movies that have different themes. The two movies

The two protagonist in Happy Feet (Mumble) and Kung Fu Panda (Po) both start off unfitting and

others, but struggle to redeem themselves. Happy Feet and Kung Fu Panda are different, because
one is about a penguin that can t sing and the other is about a Panda that wants to learn Kung Fu

The behavior of molecules of solids, liquids and gases depending on their state of pressure and
temperature since kinetic theory is the nergy of movement,
The 3 states, solids, liquids and gases have a different type of kinetic energy.
KINETIC THEORY OF GASES.
1) gases consist of a very large number of extremely small particles (molecules) which are in state
of continuous rapid motions.
2) The molecules move in straight lines until they collide with one another or with the wall of the
container.
3) The collisions are perfectly elastc ie. There is no change in the total energy as a result of a
collision.
4) The distances between the molecules are largecompared to their size. The supposition is
indicated by the great compressibility of gases.
5) The molecules are so far apart the the attractive forces between them are neligible.
KINETIC THEORY OF LIQUIDS.
The main difference between liquids and gases is that the molecules in a liquid are much closer
together. Therfore the molecules in a liquid are less free to move about independently. The
velocities of the molecules will be continually changing as a result of the collisions.
Many molecules will have the average welocities, whilst some will have either a greater or slower
velocities. Some fast molecules

Media s Influence On The Socialization Of A Child
As media technology now offers various ways to access TV contents, such as on the Internet,
cell phones and iPad, it leads children to spend more time watching animations and movies.
According to a Kaiser family foundation study, 8 10 year old children expose average 7 hours 51
minutes to media in a typical day. 11 14 year old children and 15 18 year old children spend
average 11 hours in a day. (Victoria et al.) Children thoroughly perceive and accept the concepts
from media, so it is the powerful medium and cramming education method that control
consciousness and create the imitation. Animations and movies, as the most accessible media,
significantly have an effect on the process of socialization of children to form personality traits and
the concept of the gender.
Gender has been portraying stereotypically for a long period in the history of media. Media plays a
very vital role in the socialization of a child or even adult, through different the storyline, characters
and dramatization of different genders through different theme and portrayals. Traditionally, media
have broadened the representation of male. In the presence of male and female characters in
animated cartoons, 67.4% characters were male and only 32.6% were female. It showed that male
characters out numbered female characters in the animated cartoons broadcasted from the
worldwide popular channel, Cartoon Network.(Ahmed, Shumaila, and Juliana A. Wahab) Disney s

The Between British And Chinese Waste Management Essay
Saying that a corporation has no social or moral responsibility to engage in, is untrue. A company
should be looking at its host nation laws and regulations, the laws and regulations of its market
countries, and its desired Code of Ethics of both its employees and leadership. By implicating that a
company s responsibility has borders or boundaries is a true statement because there may not be
reciprocity between nation s regulations. This does not mean that it exonerates the company from
honoring the host nation laws.
Host nation laws dictate how the business can create, build, and distribute its products locally and
across their boarders. Regulations set a guiding factor as to what can be used to create their product
and the building or facility that they are built in. Meaning that the host nation s environmental laws
will affect the production of its good. These two are synonymous with each other as they are the
same thing defined differently by required actions of implementation.
The differences between British and Chinese waste management are key indicators in
environmental regulation factors. Chinese waste management includes the importation of recyclable
materials not recycled in other countries. The main purpose of the importation of these materials
are meant to be used in the fabrication of multiple products. Even though depending on the Chinese
market you bought from Pre 2008 or Post 2008 has different effects. These products may be less

on their agriculture sector, being the number one exporter of rice in the world,
telecommunications as well as new types of services are emerging. Their GDP grew 6.5 %( 1) in

Malvolio and the Way he is Treated in William Shakespeare s The Twelfth Night
Malvolio is an extremely complicated and difficult character to study because of his mixed,
complex personality. At times in the play he seems very reliable and loyal but sometimes he seems
foolish and weak, and in many scenes in the play the audience are encouraged to laugh at him, his
actions or his words. He is not portrayed as a lovable character, which makes the play funnier.
Also, the way that Malvolio seems humourless actually makes him humorous. Just Malvolio s

Shooting A Bow Lab Report
Shooting a bow largely involves the use of the upper extremity. Between the needs of stabilization
and torque, many muscles in the upper extremity are utilized to perform an effective shot.
However, the lower extremity is also involved in bow shooting mechanics. Muscles in the lower
extremity perform both concentric and eccentric contractions to stabilize the body during all phases
of shooting a bow. Therefore, shooting a bow involves complex contractions of muscles throughout
the body. In the next few pages the jointsand the muscular involvement of the shoulder, elbow, and
wristduring bow shooting will be discussed in depth.
As mentioned in the previous paragraph, the involvement of the upper extremity will be discussed
in detail as it relates to its function in the action of shooting a bow. The shoulder plays a huge role
in drawing the bow and keeping the string pulled back. The joints of the shoulder are vital when
performing these actions. The joints involved include: the sternoclavicular joint, ... Show more

The prime movers in the left shoulder that move it back to its neutral position are the anterior
deltoid and the bicep brachii. Concentric contractions followed by eccentric contractions of both of
these muscles move the shoulder from extension and abduction to it neutral state by flexing and
adducting the shoulder. The prime movers in the right shoulder are again the anterior and middle
deltoid along with the supraspinatus that contract isometrically to keep the shoulder in horizontal
abduction. When the right shoulder is let down after follow through, the prime movers are the
triceps and the posterior deltoids which eccentrically contract to extend the shoulder to its neutral
position. Therefore the muscles of the shoulder are exceedingly imperative to the action of shoot a

Privacy Issues In Internet Of Things
The Internet of Things is one of the fastest growing parts of information technology. With the
rapid increase in Internet of Things device around the world it has become a problem with
securing one s privacy, Internet of things range from a typical smart phone to a smart air
conditioner or a pacemaker. Because of these simple devices one can overlook the security and
vulnerability of these devices such as their privacyconcerns. You ever feel like you re being watch,
or that your smart phone may know you to well, or how your deviceapps seem to somehow know
which ads to post of material items you been searching. These are just a few privacy issues that
still remain unresolved. With the growing issue of privacy in Internet of Things there are methods
and designs being developed to help ease one s concerns, I will provide two methods to help
resolve the privacy issue with the dummy location generator, that is an algorithm developed that
will help lower the user probability of having their location revealed. Another method is the privacy
by design which is the process of which it uses the consideration the user s privacy issues that
should be used from the beginning of the design throughout the whole design process.
The Internet of Things is one of the fastest growing technologies in the world, there are an

Posse Commitatus Act Essay
Another law that Cooper has an issue with is the The Posse Comitatus Act. The Posse Comitatus
act made it a felony for the Armed Forces to perform the law enforcement duties of the civilian
police but in 1981 the military was permitted to give civilian police departments access to military
bases, research, and equipment to strengthen these departments capacity to wage the War on Drugs
(Balko, 2006; powell Hershenov, 1990). Policeofficers were then trained to use military
equipment. Reagan declared drugs a national security, lifted the ban on the army s ability to
train the police force, and the police and army began to collaborate. By 1994, the Department of
Defense authorized the large scale transfer of military equipment and technology to police
departments (Balko, 2006; powell Hershenov, 1990). Between the erosion of the 4th amendment
and the Posse Comitatus Act policing had begun to get out of control and poorer neighborhoods
had become the targets. In a single 8 block area of a predominately Black and Latino neighborhood
(home to just 14,000 people), the police conducted 52,000 stop and frisks over a four year period;

Global Warming
Global warming is a big problem and impacts our environment in a negative way because it is
heating the Earth. Global warming impacts all of the life around us even though not many people
recognize it. There are many problems that global warming will make to our environment and it has
already impacted it over time. Although, there are many problems, there are also solutions to stop
global warming. Climate change is most closely related to global warming and many scientists
have found ways to try and put a stop to it.
One of the biggest problems of global warming is the global climate change that is occurring.
Some examples of how it is changing is that temperatures are rising and have ... Show more content

Global warming also causes intense weather and weather patterns. When the ocean water heats
up, then that means it will create hurricanes and as the Earth continues to heat up then it will
make even stronger hurricanes over time. Hurricanes are increasing because in some ocean
basins, hurricane intensification has been linked to rising ocean temperatures (Global Warming
Impacts). Other times of weather that can occur in some areas are flooded because of excess
precipitation. Excess precipitation can be a bad thing because flooding is destroying a lot of
things, for example military bases near the coast. Wildfires are beginning to occur more often now
since the Earth is heating up which is a disaster because that affects plants and animals. If wildfires
occur, then many forests will die and that will pollute the air even more. `
There are a few solutions to stop global warming and the most common one is to reduce the
burning of fossil fuels. Whenever people use an automobile, a car, bus, or plane, then that is
polluting the air, which will warm the Earth because the ozone layer is getting destroyed.
Although many people have to have transportation, if they cut down on their driving or got more
energy efficient cars then it would help a lot. The car that you buy is a very important factor
because each gallon of gas you use is responsible for 25 pounds of heat trapping gases in the
atmosphere (Ten). Whenever people burn fossil fuels it creates

Biography Of Glenn T. Seaborg
Glenn T. Seaborg was born into an educated family in Ishpeming, Michigan in 1912. When
Seaborg was ten, in 1922, the family moved to California in order to seek new opportunities. In
high school, he had no exposure to science and, therefore, little knowledge of its possibilities (290).
Dwight Reid, the teacher of his first chemistry course captured his imagination and caused him to
realize his passion. After graduation, he attended the University of California at Los Angeles
(UCLA), due to its free tuition and his family s financial situation. Financial hardships were
common throughout Seaborg s childhood and early adulthood due to the Great Depression.

Adventure s in the Atomic Age displays the idea that financial barriers and difficult courses
should not be what is stopping someone from being successful in the field of science. Scientists
would feel a sense of purpose and inner satisfaction even if their efforts were not important to the
world in which we live. In actuality, of course, there is no group of persons on whom society as
a whole depends so heavily (292). Seaborg began working with one of the pioneers of nuclear
medicine, Joe Hamilton, while attending Berkley. Hamilton needed a radioisotope that had a
half life long enough to be useful in dealing with in the human body; a half life that was about a
week. Seaborg and his long time friend and partner, Jack Livingwood, used targets of tellurium
and bombarded it with deuterons and some with neutrons to reveal iodine 131, which had a half
life of eight days. This element held major sentimental value to Seaborg due to its aid in his
mother s cure of hyperthyroidism. Iodine 131 is a major component still today in cancer
treatment, particularly thyroid cancer. Seaborg and Livingwood also discovered cobalt 60, which
is also a critical medical isotope. Cobalt 60 emits gamma radiation which in turn focuses directly
on cancer cells to destroy it. Hundreds of thousands of Americans have had their cancers treated by
cobalt 60 irradiation, and it is also used to sterilize medical products and equipment (36). Shortly

Moveable Feast Hemingway
Ernest Hemingway is one of the greatest American 20th century novelists. Born in a Chicago
suburb, he emerged as a writer quite early, starting his career immediately after high school. He
served in World War I as an ambulance driver. After the war, wounded, Hemingway returned to
the U.S. for a short time before settling in Paris with his first wife, Hadley Richardson. In his
memoir A Moveable Feast, he describes his years in Paris as a young writer, his relationship with
his wife and their infant son, as well as his circle of friends and acquaintances. However, it all
seems but a background setting for his work. Throughout A Moveable Feast, Ernest Hemingway

Eating, drinking, reading, and even having sex with his wife were only something necessary to him

For any talented writer, writing opens up a new world, a new reality to live in. Hemingway was
not an exception: For him, writing was indeed an escape from objective reality. The way he

how deep he would wander far into the story and get lost in it. When he was writing, the whole
world around him would fade from existence; he did not look up nor know anything about the

The Influence of the Hyksos Invasion of Egypt
At the end of the Middle Kingdom, the Hyksos people invaded Egypt. The Hyksos most likely
migrated from Western Asia in Syria Palestine, but have no clear origin where they are from. The
Egyptians called these people hikau khausut which means ruler of the foreign countries . The
Hyksos were technologically advanced and because of that they had a strong military. The
Egyptians had been isolated from the growing and progressing world by the deserts which surround
the country. Because of this isolation, the Egyptians were unprepared for any attack and had a
weaker military force. Instead of protecting themself they relied on their natural borders to shelter
them from invasion. When the Hyksosinvaded Egypt, they left a lasting impact on Egypt s lifestyle
by introducing the Egyptians to different trade methods, diversifying their economy, and exposed
exposing them to new military techniques.
The trade and economy of the Egyptians were influenced by the invaders. The Hyksos brought
with them the knowledge of metals, weapons, and a horse drawn cart know as and a chariot. These
developments increased trade, economic expansion and the growth of cities. The trading of Bronze
and Copper contributed to a major part the of the development and enlargement of Egyptian cities.
Bronze and copper were used to made tools and weapons. The new technology spread by trading,

According to rasmussen.edu there are roughly 3.2 percent of high school Athletes that have been

Because of Garcia Lorca s death, Neruda joined the Republican movement, starting off in Spain
then in France, Neruda worked on a collection of poems called EspaГ±a en el CorazГіn, or, Spain
in our Hearts. When these poems were written, Neruda seemed to be in a very difficult place and
it seemed like he would be for a very long time. For example, his poem, Cursed states, Bring,
bring the lamp, see the soaked earth, see the blackened little bone eaten by the flames, the
garment of murdered Spain. Just by that excerpt, you can tell that the tone of this poem is very
dark. In fact, the majority of Neruda s poems in this book seemed as if they all had the same
tone; gloomy and pessimistic. His poems reflected this tone from the 1940 s and onward,
showing the political struggle in South America. This does show that life experiences can really
affect the way that poets write. A disheartening event can lead a poet to write very depressing
poems, and vice versa. Even though Neruda wrote a lot about the political struggle, he also wrote
a lot of poems about love, such as, Twenty Love Poems and a Song of Despair. One love poem
that he wrote, Your Laughter, was intriguing. The poem reveals how the person in the poem is
obviously struggling in life. But, the laughter of their significant other s motivates them to keep
driving through whatever darkness they are going through, and keeps them happy as well. A small

Recommendations And Improvements Of The Fishbone Diagram
PROCESS RECOMMENDATIONS AND IMPROVEMENTS After defining our standards,
measuring the data, and analyzing the information it was time to improve the products and
processes. This was done by assessing the manpower, materials, methods, meals, and machines
related to the process. The tools used in the analysis were the fishbone and the process flow
diagrams shown below. Some concepts on the fishbone diagram are related to the product directly
while others are related to the delivery process, the staff and the physical appearance of the
restaurant. However, all of the factors relate directly to the customer satisfaction and an enjoyable
dining experience. A detailed description of these aspects will now be discussed, along with how to
implement these changes. There are many possibilities for how the materials could be improved.
First, tables and chairs should be maintained at higher standards. This could be improved by setting
time limits on clearing and resetting tables. For example, tables must be cleaned no longer than two
minutes after the customers leave the table . Second, restrooms should be maintained on routine
schedules. For example, staff should inspect restrooms every 30 minutes and sign posted inspection
sheets verifying that they were sanitized and restocked. Furthermore, changing tables, hand
sanitizers and baby wipes should be available in all restrooms. Even the music in the restrooms was
an added bonus. Third, cloth napkins and finer utensils

Arab, Muslim And Middle East
To even begin to delve into our topic, we must first define the following terms: Arab, Muslim and
Middle East. Millions of the people that fall into these categories live in the United States, yet we
hardly take the time to learn to differentiate between them thanks to the negative connotations that
are associated with each of these terms (Chin, 2009).
To be considered Arab, you or your ancestors live or lived in the Arab world and speak Arabic.
The Arab world is made up of 22 states and territories whom are part of the Arab League. However
many people in these states do not consider themselves Arab, thus the Arabic languageis the
unifying factor among the Arabic people. A lot of the individuals who speak Arabic today are
very diverse. There is a myriad of dialects of Arabic and over 150 million people speak it. Twenty
five countries consider Arabic an official language (even if few are fluent in it). They vary from
African to West Asian countries, however Arabs also live as minorities in many other nations. For
example, the United States (Banks, 2009).
The history of the Arabic language goes back thousands of years, thus many branches of the
language exist among many people, but its prevalence became apparent following the emergence of
Islam. The Quran was originally written in Arabic, thus through Islamic state building and
expansion, its use was extended. Islamic empires like the Umayyad Caliphate, the Ottoman Empire,

ESTERIFICATION OF ROSIN TO MAKE ESTER GUM
Esterification : It is a reaction between alcohols and carboxylic acids to produce esters.
The carboxylic acid group of a rosin acid can be converted to an ester through a reaction with
various alcohols. The alcohols typically used to make rosin esters are given below. The molecular
weight and functionality of the alcohol determines the softening point of the subsequent ester.
Glycerol with three reactive sites is the most commonly used alcohols. Methanol with a single

Shakespeare s plays contain many types of characters. In Hamlet Laertes is absent throughout most
of the play. However, he still has a complex personality. At times, Laertes s actions are caused by
differing traits and, therefore create conflicting outcomes such as, a loved sister and the death of
many. Nevertheless, these characteristics are what make him himself. Laertes often becomes angry
which sometimes leads him to action without thought, but he is caring, loyal and, religious to an
extent.
Laertes often lets his anger consume him sometimes causing him to act before knowing all the

His love for Ophelia is obvious in many ways. Before leaving for France, Laertes talks with his
sister about Hamlet. He warns her that the Prince s love for her is most likely a fleeting emotion.
He continues, saying that even if his feelings are true, it doesn t matter because he will marry for
the kingdom, not for love: His will is not his own (1,3,17). He warns her not only so she won t
get hurt, but also so she doesn t ruin her future. However, his most obvious act of love comes
after her death. He leaps into her grave so that he may hold her once more: Hold of the earth
awhile till I have caught her once more in mine arms (5,1,252 252). How much Laertes cares for
Ophelia is very obvious and present through the whole play but, his care and loyalty for others
does have an extent. He shows loyalty to his father by avenging his death. He goes so far to say
he would kill Hamlet in the church if the opportunity presented itself. While Laertes loyalty to his
father is not seen until his father s death, his loyalty to the king is presented much earlier. It is
first shown when he came to Denmark to show [his] duty in [the King s] coronation (1,2,53). He
also shows his loyalty when he agrees to help kill Hamlet. However, this loyalty is questionable
because when Laertes is dying, he contradicts himself by telling Hamlet The King s to blame

Geothermal Energy Essay
Geothermal Energy
The human population is currently using up its fossil fuel supplies at staggering rates. Before long
we will be forced to turn somewhere else for energy. There are many possibilities such as
hydroelectric energy, nuclear energy, wind energy, solar energy and geothermal energyto name a
few. Each one of these choices has its pros and cons. Hydroelectric power tends to upset the
ecosystems in rivers and lakes. It affects the fish and wild life population.
Nuclear energy is a very controversial subject. Although it produces high quantities of power with
relative efficiency, it is very hard to dispose of the waste. While wind and solar power have no
waste products, they require enormous amounts of land ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The continental crust consists of igneous and sedimentary rocks. The oceanic crust consists of the
same with a substantial layer of sediments above the rock. The crust covers the outer ridged layer of
the earth called the lithosphere. The lithosphere is divided into seven main continental plates.
These continental plates are constantly moving on a viscous base. The viscosity of this base is a
function of the temperature. The study of shifting continental plates is called Plate Tectonics. Plate
Tectonics allows scientists to locate regions of geothermal heat emission. Shifting continental plates
cause weak spots or gaps between plates where geothermal heat is more likely to seep through the
crust. These gaps are called Subduction Zones. Heat emission from subduction zones can take many
forms, such as volcanoes, geysers and hot springs. When lateral plate movement induced gaps occur
between plates, collisions occur between other plates. This results in partial plate destruction. This
causes mass amounts of heat to be produced due to frictional forces and the rise of magma from the
mantle through propagating lithosphere fractures and thermal plumes sometimes resulting in
volcanism. During plate movement, continental plates are constantly being consumed and
produced changing plate boundaries. When collisions between plates occur, the crust is pushed up
sometimes forming ranges of mountains. This is the way that most

Theme Of Cyrano De Bergerac
True to Even the Dead A man true to his word never betrays a friend. Edmond Rostand develops
this in Cyrano de Bergerac through the character Cyrano. Even after Christian dies, Cyrano does
not tell Roxane that it was him writing the love letters. Roxane knows it was Cyrano, yet he
continuously stays true to Christian. Rostand demonstrates the concepts of a true friend never
betraying through the actions of Cyrano when Roxane realizes that he had been writing all of the
loveletters.
Roxane realizes: And all these fourteen years, he has been the old friend, who came to me to be
amusing.
Cyrano: Roxane!
Roxane: It was you.
Cyrano: No, no, Roxane, no!
Roxane: And I might have known, Everytime that I heard you speak my name!
Cyrano: No It was not I (5.1.248 253)
Even though Roxane realizes that it was Cyrano writing the letters, he never betrays Christian. An
honorable friend will not betray his companion. An honorable man will always keep his word and
stay true to his friend no matter what happens. Rostand coveys this through the Cyrano s tone and
actions, figurative language, and the character s circumstances. ... Show more content on

He is startled when she lays her hand on his shoulder. He is so used to his reality that she never
knew that he wrote the letters that he starts at this very small sign of affection. When Roxane

continue with Christian s illusion. Throughout the scene, Cyrano is becoming weaker and weaker
due to the wound on his head. However, he put his life in jeopardy (and even died) to see Roxane
like he has for fourteen years. This clearly demonstrates his strong love for

The Kuiper Belt
More and more is being learned about the Kuiper Belt showing us that it is an interesting part of
our galaxy that may help us better understand how our solar system was formed. The existence of
what became known as the Kuiper Belt was first suggested by astronomer Kenneth Edgeworth in
1943. He suggested that, comets and other larger bodies might exist past Neptune. Several years
later in 1951, astronomer Gerard Kuiper predicted the existence of icy objects that formed a belt
just beyond the orbit of Neptune. This became known as the Kuiper Beltor less commonly known as
the Edgeworth Kuiper Belt and is thought to contain objects leftover during the formation of our
solar system. The actual existence of the Kuiper Belt was not confirmed... Show more content on

Since the discovery of the first large KBO, 1992QB1, in 1992 by Jane Luu and David Jewitt
(jew it), a few others have been identified. In 2004 using better telescopes, astronomers
discovered another KBO which they named Sedna. This was followed by discoveries in 2005
and 2008. In 2005 a KBO slightly smaller than Pluto was identified and named Eris. It was the
discovery of Eris which has its own moon that led to Pluto being reclassified as a dwarf planet
rather than the ninth planet in our solar system. In 2008 two more objects categorized as dwarf
planets were discovered. One is named Makemake after the Polynesian creation god and the
other is named Haumea after the Hawaiian goddess of fertility and childbirth. The distance from
Earth and the small size of the objects in the Kuiper Belt make them very difficult to see and
study. To get a closer look at the objects, the first mission to the Kuiper Belt was launched in
2006 by NASA. The New Horizons spacecraft had reached Pluto about 10 years later in 2015
providing the first up close glimpse of a Kuiper belt object. The New Horizons spacecraft continues
to push further into the Kuiper Belt and information from this exploration is still being analyzed.
The study of Kuiper Belt will likely continue to provide more information on how our solar
system was formed and its origins. The material in the Kuiper Belt are what s left over after the

The Agricultural Revolution And The Industrial Revolution
The Industrial Revolution is where the production of machine made goods increased greatly.
This took place in the 1700s in England. Before the Industrial Revolution happened these goods
were produced handmade. I think the agricultural revolution was a pretty big part of the
Industrial Revolution. The agricultural revolution had a couple key parts. The first one is crop
rotation which increase food supplies and living conditions for the people in England. They
were able to plant a whole field of something and the next year be able to plant the same field
with a whole new crop. Another key point is the wealthy landowners took the land from the
villagers which allowed them to make larger fields called enclosures. With having these
enclosures it allowed the owners to try many different ways to plant their food. Jethro Tull was a
scientific farmer who realized that planting seed by throwing it out didn t get all of the seed to
grow. He thought it was wasteful so he decided to create the seed drill in 1701. The seed drill let
the farmers put the seed in perfectly spaced rows at certain depths. This invention boosted the crops
in a pretty big way. Without these advancements in agriculture the industrial revolutionwouldn t
have been the way it was. The agriculture revolution treated many different ways to more efficiently
make more crops and what the industrial revolution is, is the output of machine made goods. With
these new advancements you can create many more machine made

Catch 22 War Quotes
Catch 22
War does not determine who is right... only who is left. This inspirational quote, stated by
Bertrand Russell, really gives us a clear depiction of the ineffectiveness of going to war. In the
book Catch 22, written by Joseph Heller, the art of going to war is viewed as a very trivial,
frivolous way of solving disputes between countries with differing opinions. In general, war is one
of the many solutions to solving a conflict of interests, usually occurring on both national and
international level. Heller s book gives a very fatalistic view on the basic anatomy of war,
explaining why it is an unnecessary conflict between individuals that do not know each other for
causes that they may not even fully believe in, completely illustrating the hopelessness of war.
Among many other great war novels stands Catch 22, and by analyzing the pre arranged
impossibility of leaving the army, observing how Yossarian s experiences affect his mental state,
and understanding why Yossarian s will to live is so strong, readers may be able to grasp Heller s
views on war, and in the end, perceive why war should not the preeminent choice that groups with
differing opinions come to. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

A Gallup Poll is defined by Merriam Webster Dictionary as a sampling of public opinion on a
particular issue or of the degree of information among the public about a particular thing or of
opinion or information in a particular group taken by questioning a representative cross section.
(Merriam Webster, n.d). The Gallup Company was developed in 1935 to gauge public opinion on
relevant topics in the United States and world wide using surveys and statistical data. Using survey
questions to obtain data Gallup develops statistics on opinions regarding the economy, politics,
social and other issues. The Gallup World Poll ...provides these insights by continually measuring
key indicators such as Leadership, Law and Order, Food/Shelter, Work, Economics, Health,
Wellbeing, Migration, Environment, Education, Entrepreneurship, and Engaged Citizens and

Devolution And The Scottish Parliament Essay
Within the United Kingdom, a recurring issue has been raised regarding the political position of
Scotland and how the Scottish Parliament could better govern the country. To establish whether the
quality of life could be improved for the Scottish people, key events, devolution, and the Scottish
Parliament must be evaluated and analysed. The argument for greater power in decision making
and the ability to implement change for the citizens of Scotland, has been central to Scottish politics
for some time.
The process of establishing devolution for Scotland began with the Scotland Act 1978, which
made way for a referendum on devolution and attempted to gain more power and legislature
abilities for Scotland. The rise of the SNP forced the Labour Government of James Callaghan to
react. The terms of this Act stated 40% of the entire electorate had to vote yes for devolution and
the establishment of a Scottish Assembly, this included those who did not vote which were
counted as a no vote. The 1979 Referendum, on 1st March, saw a majority of 52% in favour of
devolution, to 48% against. At first glance it appears Scotland was successful in its referendum,
however only 32.9% of the electorate had joined the majority, meaning the 40% required to
achieve devolution was not met. With this failure to achieve devolution, the SNP backed a Tory
motion of no confidence in the Labour government which saw the 1979 election being called by
just one vote. The 1979 election saw the rise of

Essay on Digital Steerable Line Array
Loudspeakers and Line Arrays play a vital role in live sound reinforcement. The main goal of line
arrays is to evenly distribute the full range of frequencies and loudness of the performance to the
audience, no matter where the people are standing. Stage hands and audio technicians work together
before a live performance in order to achieve the optimum soundquality for the audience s
satisfaction during their experience of the live event. Typically, traditional line arrays are set up
by technicians on ground level. With the help of motorized hoists, the speakers are hanged or
flown to be rigged at a specific height and achieve its J shaped curve provided that the stage or
venue is able to properly accommodate the speakers weight... Show more content on

Furthermore, each high frequency driver consists of several movable components in order to
optimize the aim of high frequencies. While ICONYX is supposedly one of, if not the first of its
kind, Renkus Heinz is not the only company to develop digitally steerable speakers. Martin Audio
s version of digitally controlled line arrays is called the Multi Cellular Loudspeaker Array or MLA.
Aesthetically, the MLA is more like the line arrays flown on big concerts and stadiums most
people are familiar with. Simply put, by using the provided software, the specifications of
venues or audience space is detected and analyzed by the array itself. Additionally, each of the 72
to 144 cells or parts of the line array is capable of having its own phase, level, and EQ individually
and independently set. All of this is controlled electronically, by further use of digital signal
processing. Due to the sheer amount of moving components, the MLA has the ability to constantly
change its directionality and arrangement in order to adjust the loudspeakers coverage, or
accommodate to weather changes, or rigging height modifications; in real time. Unfortunately,
further in depth scientific data and proof presented by Martin Audio is far beyond my
understanding of physics and acoustics, so I will not attempt to rehash the information and instead

Gaea married Uranus and they had children. Uranus was a bad father, so his son Cronus
overthrew him. Now Cronus was the leader, he married his sister Rhea and had kids, but
swallowed them because it was told they would overthrow him one day. Zeus, Cronus son
managed to survive and later killed his father and took over.
Commentary: Gaea and Rhea are looked at as the mothers who actually wanted their children to be
able to thrive, unlike their spouses. Both Uranus and Cronus were willing to sacrifice their children
to continue being the ruler. However, by doing this to the people they were supposed to love most
they created a tension between the family that was not going to go away. So, by trying to stay in
power Uranus and Cronus actually were the reason their family retaliated against them and took
their power away. Finally, Zeus comes along and does not make the same mistakes and his dad
and his dad s dad. Instead, he learn from their obvious mistakes, defeats Cronus and starts being
the leader everyone was waiting for. This connects to the story in the news right now about a Lion
being shot in Africa. It connects because the lion that was shot was the male, now if another male

What Makes Augustine s Confessions Memorable
Maddie Yamona
Western Civilization II
Mr. Horswell
29 September, 2017
What makes Augustine s Confessions memorable
Augustine s Confessions was a major piece of work that heavily influenced the religion back in his
times. Augustine s Confessions is still read today because of the relatability it shows in aspects of
depression, love, and finding your identity. Throughout the book Augustine goes through his life
and the decisions he has made and how they made him either a better or worse person. We can use
Augustine s Confessions as a tool to also evaluate our own lives and decisions because of the way
he judges himself and what he considers to be the best and worst things he has done and why.
Augustine goes through trying to find himself through things of the world and then finally realizes
why he can not when he steps back and looks at the fact that he must first find himself in God.
Augustine finds himself going through hard times throughout the Confessions and this includes the
struggle with depression. Augustine loses one of his very close friends and begins to become
depressed, I raged and sighed and wept and worried, I could not rest, I could not think intelligent.
(Augustine. 64). When Augustine becomes depressed he says that he does not want to be around
people and people can relate to this because when people are upset they want time to themselves to
think not time around other people. Another example of when Augustine is depressed is when
Augustine realizes how

Analysis Of The Movie The Black Swan
The Black Swan is a movie about a woman named Nina Sayers, who was a ballerina at an
esteemed ballet company. The newest production the company was undertaking was a ballet
called Swan Lake. Swan Lake was about a princess, the Swan Queen, who was turned into an
evil Black Swan. In the movie, the role of the Swan Queen was highly sought after among the
ballerinas, especially since the former principal dancer, Beth Macintyre, was recently let go
from the company because of her age. Nina was also very interested in the role, and having been
with the company for quite some time, auditioned for it. After she completed her audition, she
received mixed feedback from the director, Thomas Leroy, about her performance. He told her
that she was an excellent dancer, but she was also too rigid and stiff. He advised her to try to
enjoy herself and add more personality in her dance instead of focusing, primarily, on her
technique. His critique disappointed Nina because she desperately wanted to impress him. To
make matters worse, she began to feel unsure of herself when a new dancer, Lily, arrived at the
company. She especially felt threatened by Lily s presence after Thomas compared Lily s free
and relaxed dance style with Nina s controlled and technical style. Eventually, Nina attempted to
become more bold, both in her dancing and personal life, in an effort to win him over. As all of
this was taking place, Nina began to experience strange visions consisting of disturbing

Norma Percy Death Of Yugoslavia Summary
Nationalism, Security, and the Death of Yugoslavia Norma Percy s The Death of Yugoslavia frames
the political events that took place towards the end of the Cold War that would ultimately result in
the dissolvent of Yugoslavia. After the death of Josi Broz Tito, the once suppressed nationalism
between the Serbsand Croats was reignited under the control of Slobodan Milosevic. The Serbs
claimed that their people were poorly treated at that the Albanians yearned for an ethnically pure
Yugoslavia. Unlike his predecessor, Milosevic catered to the Serbs, lending an ear to their
nationalistic tendencies instead of crushing it. As tensions mounted, Milosevic launched a Serbian
crusade, taking over the sovereign republics of Vojvodina and Montenegro. According to Percy
(1995), the republic of Kosovo, full of Albanians, put up a fight but eventually bowed to Serbia
through military force. With regard to Slovenia and Croatia, the two republics managed to hold their
ground against Milosevic and declared independence in 1991. While... Show more content on

Similar to when Hitler took over Europe, the surrounding states of Yugoslavia put forth little
military effort to assist the republics that were under siege. What Percy (1995) fully fails to
mention is that the Yugoslavian republics did not have the military capabilities to defend their
own states; regardless of it was against Milosevic or another outside force and was only amplified
when outside states provided no military backup (Baylis, Smith, Owens, 2014). Thus, it was
relatively easy for one party, with federal force and of one ethnicity, to come in and take over.
Additionally, without nationalism in the way, the Yugoslavian republics would have been able to

  • 4. Informative Speech On Pilates It s no secret to those who know me that I love Pilates. In fact, I ve written about it a few times in the past (and probably will again). In today s post, I share with you some of my journey toward healing, and ways in which Pilates is a useful, therapeutic tool to help you on your road to recovery. The word challenging does not even begin to describe the starting point of my health struggles. For years, I battled an ever growing list of strange symptoms until a doctor diagnosed me with Chronic Fatigue Syndrome in 2010. Despite doing everything right all that my doctor told me to do my body became frailer by the day, and weight inexplicably dropped from my 5 foot 6 inch frame. Soon after my diagnosis, a series of life altering events occurred; I lost my job, my car, most of my friends, my ability to sleep, financial ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Here are five ways Pilates can help you heal from Lyme Disease. 1. Pilates helps reconnect your mind and your body. You might feel as though your body has betrayed you, and like you have no control over what s happening to you. Pilates gently helps you find a mind body connection where you are in charge of the muscles you utilize through a concept known as concentration. When you focus or concentrate, your attention on the muscles working during an exercise, you become aware of just how much each muscle is working. By using your mind to direct, your body s actions, you are in charge; you make the movement happen. A consistent Pilates practice enhances your understanding of this mind body connection and allows you to see that although many things may not be in your control, you still have the power to make specific changes to movements that feel right to you. Knowing that your mind and body can work together to help you heal is a very encouraging thought. 2. Pilates helps balance the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. The Broken Window Theory Of Crime Criminologist James Q. Wilson and George Kelling developed the Broken Window theory . According to their theory they believed that crime is the inevitable result of disorder (Gladwell 155). The broken window theory is known as a disorder and as chaos, therefore, crimes become an issue due to the fact that the impression of no one being in charge causes crimes to happen one after another and worsening along the way. An example often used is a broken window, which leads to another broken window, to graffiti, to loitering, etc. The disorder, the chaos and the abandonment of something or a place causes crimes to be followed one after another crime is contagious (Gladwell 155). According to the broken window theory, broken windows should not be left alone. They should be fixed in order for crime to decrease; therefor broken windows should not be tolerated due to the fact that it may cause an increase of crimes as well. The rise of a question then forms from this theory, because many departments use the broken window theory. Officers are known for keeping the law and keeping order. The officers are given a duty of addressing minor life threatening offenses and social disorder, which prevents major crimes to happen. They are to disapprove and stop crimes. But is the broken window theory broken itself when it comes to law enforcement. Could they be doing more wrong than actually doing well? Because officers are not only stopping crimes, but they are causing more trouble ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. Tao Te Ching Of Lao-Tzu Analysis Tao Te Ching of Lao Tzu is a book with many chapters in it showing the two different sides to basically everything. To break it down, Tao means path or way , Te means to get , and Ching means great book . So the Tao was the force that controlled the universe and appreciated the way, to find balance between opposites. The book, Tao Te Ching has been said to been written by a Laozi an old master and has been said that the true author (or authors ) name has been lost. In the chapters between the book it tells how to live a life of integrity and of greatness per say. It also has contradictions or paradoxes which allows us to see the both perspectives of each side. It shows us that there are always two sides to everything. Tao Te Ching... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It was the little things that he did that made my opinion change on him. You can t judge others on their appearance because there might be beauty inside of them or ugliness inside of them either one. The other contradiction in the Tao Te Ching was good and evil . This concept can kind of connect back to the ugliness and beauty in the ugliness kind of being evil and beauty being good. Of course, as it has already been expressed before by the author of this book, there are two sides to everything. When things are good, they are good of course but there is always something that is going to change that. The same thing happens when things are bad, they are bad but then it has to change to good at some point. What I thought of when I saw good and evil was the tree of knowledge of good and evil from the Bible. In the Bible, near the beginning of the book Genesis 2:9 it says that there are two trees, the tree of life and the tree of knowledge of good and evil. The Lord God made all kinds of trees grow out of the ground trees that were pleasing to the eye and good for food. In the middle of the garden were the tree of life and the tree of the knowledge of good and evil . When Adam and Eve sinned and ate from the tree of knowledge of good and evil, that s when the concept of good and evil became true. When things were going good, something would upset that and something bad would happen. What I believe is that if Adam and Eve hadn t have sinned then ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 7. Soviet Union Failures Since the fall of the Soviet Union, a multitude of factors has been attributed as the cause of its disintegration, including, but not limited to: a failing economy, political fracturing, and ethnic cleavages. In this paper I will argue that the dissolution of the Soviet Union resulted from a combination of variables beginning with Gorbachev s economic and social reform policies. These reforms brought to light the internal political factions in Soviet leadership thus leading to the exploitation of ethno national divisions by officials seeking greater leadership and more power. Therefore, ethnic divisions within the Soviet Uniondid not make disintegration inevitable, but were rather a politically efficient lens for leaders to use in order to... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... From economic stagnation and decline, to fissures within the Soviet leadership, to the manipulation and nurturing of nationalist values from politicians throughout the Soviet republics. These variables joined together culminate a plausible explanation as to why the Soviet Union collapsed, but one variable could not generate enough damage alone. The argument that ethnic divisions caused the disintegration of the Soviet Union is no more feasible than the argument that the Soviet Union s disintegration was unavoidable. In his article Leon Aron states, Nothing in history is automatic or inevitable. The fact that something happened means neither that it had to happened nor that it could have happened only in the way that it did (Aron, p. 25). This statement rings true to the collapse of the Soviet Union, for its dissolution was not predicable nor was it expected, but it happened nonetheless. As Treisman s argues, it was a series of accidents and bungling responses which in the end culminated in the toppling of one of the 20th century s greatest global ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

It is a system in which billions of dollars have been budgeted and dedicated to ensuring the country is delivering affordable, quality care. With the expansion of it services, the CDC began to train public health staff on how to identify diseases that were a threat to the general public and how to protect the public from those diseases. Juliet is wearing an angel costume showing her innocence and purity. Romeo is wearing a knight s costume, showing nobility and honour. Juliet s Mother comes to get her to dance with a man called Paris; Paris wants her to marry him. Her family think he would be a perfect match for her, but his costume definitely says differently. He is wearing an astronaut s costume; this costume shows that he is slightly out in space, away from the rest of the world, possibly even self centred. A company should be looking at its host nation laws and regulations, the laws and regulations of its market countries, and its desired Code of Ethics of both its employees and leadership. By implicating that a company s responsibility has borders or boundaries is a true statement because there may not be reciprocity between nation s regulations. This does not mean that it exonerates the company from honoring the host nation laws. • 32. The Poetry Of Pablo Neruda Ricardo EliГ©cer NeftalГ Reyes Basoalto, also known as Pablo Neruda was born on July 12, 1904 in a small town in Chile. Neruda s mother died shortly after his birth, leaving him in the care of his father. Neruda began to write at the age of ten. Gabriela Mistral, who would later become a Nobel Prize winner, recognized Neruda s talents by giving him books and encouragement he did not have at home. In his early teen years, he began to publish his writings under the name of what we know as Pablo Neruda in memory of the Czechoslovak poet, Jan Neruda, but also to avoid his father s disapproval of Neruda s interests in literature. Because of Garcia Lorca s death, Neruda joined the Republican movement, starting off in Spain then in France, Neruda worked on a collection of poems called EspaГ±a en el CorazГіn, or, Spain in our Hearts. When these poems were written, Neruda seemed to be in a very difficult place and it seemed like he would be for a very long time. For example, his poem, Cursed states, Bring, bring the lamp, see the soaked earth, see the blackened little bone eaten by the flames, the garment of murdered Spain. Just by that excerpt, you can tell that the tone of this poem is very dark. In fact, the majority of Neruda s poems in this book seemed as if they all had the same tone; gloomy and pessimistic. His poems reflected this tone from the 1940 s and onward, showing the political struggle in South America. This does show that life experiences can really affect the way that poets write. A disheartening event can lead a poet to write very depressing poems, and vice versa. Even though Neruda wrote a lot about the political struggle, he also wrote a lot of poems about love, such as, Twenty Love Poems and a Song of Despair. One love poem that he wrote, Your Laughter, was intriguing. The poem reveals how the person in the poem is obviously struggling in life. But, the laughter of their significant other s motivates them to keep driving through whatever darkness they are going through, and keeps them happy as well. • 33. Recommendations And Improvements Of The Fishbone Diagram PROCESS RECOMMENDATIONS AND IMPROVEMENTS After defining our standards, measuring the data, and analyzing the information it was time to improve the products and processes. This was done by assessing the manpower, materials, methods, meals, and machines related to the process. The tools used in the analysis were the fishbone and the process flow diagrams shown below. Some concepts on the fishbone diagram are related to the product directly while others are related to the delivery process, the staff and the physical appearance of the restaurant. However, all of the factors relate directly to the customer satisfaction and an enjoyable dining experience. A detailed description of these aspects will now be discussed, along with how to implement these changes. There are many possibilities for how the materials could be improved. First, tables and chairs should be maintained at higher standards. This could be improved by setting time limits on clearing and resetting tables. For example, tables must be cleaned no longer than two minutes after the customers leave the table . Second, restrooms should be maintained on routine schedules. For example, staff should inspect restrooms every 30 minutes and sign posted inspection sheets verifying that they were sanitized and restocked. Furthermore, changing tables, hand sanitizers and baby wipes should be available in all restrooms. Even the music in the restrooms was an added bonus. Third, cloth napkins and finer utensils ... The oceanic crust consists of the same with a substantial layer of sediments above the rock. The crust covers the outer ridged layer of the earth called the lithosphere. The lithosphere is divided into seven main continental plates. These continental plates are constantly moving on a viscous base. The viscosity of this base is a function of the temperature. The study of shifting continental plates is called Plate Tectonics. Plate Tectonics allows scientists to locate regions of geothermal heat emission. Shifting continental plates cause weak spots or gaps between plates where geothermal heat is more likely to seep through the crust. These gaps are called Subduction Zones. Heat emission from subduction zones can take many forms, such as volcanoes, geysers and hot springs. When lateral plate movement induced gaps occur between plates, collisions occur between other plates. This results in partial plate destruction. This causes mass amounts of heat to be produced due to frictional forces and the rise of magma from the mantle through propagating lithosphere fractures and thermal plumes sometimes resulting in volcanism. During plate movement, continental plates are constantly being consumed and produced changing plate boundaries. Before the Industrial Revolution happened these goods were produced handmade. I think the agricultural revolution was a pretty big part of the Industrial Revolution. The agricultural revolution had a couple key parts. The first one is crop rotation which increase food supplies and living conditions for the people in England. They were able to plant a whole field of something and the next year be able to plant the same field with a whole new crop. Another key point is the wealthy landowners took the land from the villagers which allowed them to make larger fields called enclosures. With having these enclosures it allowed the owners to try many different ways to plant their food. Jethro Tull was a scientific farmer who realized that planting seed by throwing it out didn t get all of the seed to grow. He thought it was wasteful so he decided to create the seed drill in 1701. The seed drill let the farmers put the seed in perfectly spaced rows at certain depths. This invention boosted the crops in a pretty big way. This inspirational quote, stated by Bertrand Russell, really gives us a clear depiction of the ineffectiveness of going to war. In the book Catch 22, written by Joseph Heller, the art of going to war is viewed as a very trivial, frivolous way of solving disputes between countries with differing opinions. In general, war is one of the many solutions to solving a conflict of interests, usually occurring on both national and international level. Heller s book gives a very fatalistic view on the basic anatomy of war, explaining why it is an unnecessary conflict between individuals that do not know each other for causes that they may not even fully believe in, completely illustrating the hopelessness of war. • 50. Devolution And The Scottish Parliament Essay Within the United Kingdom, a recurring issue has been raised regarding the political position of Scotland and how the Scottish Parliament could better govern the country. To establish whether the quality of life could be improved for the Scottish people, key events, devolution, and the Scottish Parliament must be evaluated and analysed. The argument for greater power in decision making and the ability to implement change for the citizens of Scotland, has been central to Scottish politics for some time. The process of establishing devolution for Scotland began with the Scotland Act 1978, which made way for a referendum on devolution and attempted to gain more power and legislature abilities for Scotland. The rise of the SNP forced the Labour Government of James Callaghan to react. The terms of this Act stated 40% of the entire electorate had to vote yes for devolution and the establishment of a Scottish Assembly, this included those who did not vote which were counted as a no vote. The 1979 Referendum, on 1st March, saw a majority of 52% in favour of devolution, to 48% against. At first glance it appears Scotland was successful in its referendum, however only 32.9% of the electorate had joined the majority, meaning the 40% required to achieve devolution was not met. Stage hands and audio technicians work together before a live performance in order to achieve the optimum soundquality for the audience s satisfaction during their experience of the live event. Typically, traditional line arrays are set up by technicians on ground level. With the help of motorized hoists, the speakers are hanged or flown to be rigged at a specific height and achieve its J shaped curve provided that the stage or venue is able to properly accommodate the speakers weight... While ICONYX is supposedly one of, if not the first of its kind, Renkus Heinz is not the only company to develop digitally steerable speakers. Martin Audio s version of digitally controlled line arrays is called the Multi Cellular Loudspeaker Array or MLA. Aesthetically, the MLA is more like the line arrays flown on big concerts and stadiums most people are familiar with. Simply put, by using the provided software, the specifications of venues or audience space is detected and analyzed by the array itself. Additionally, each of the 72 to 144 cells or parts of the line array is capable of having its own phase, level, and EQ individually and independently set. All of this is controlled electronically, by further use of digital signal processing. Due to the sheer amount of moving components, the MLA has the ability to constantly change its directionality and arrangement in order to adjust the loudspeakers coverage, or accommodate to weather changes, or rigging height modifications; in real time. Unfortunately, further in depth scientific data and proof presented by Martin Audio is far beyond my understanding of physics and acoustics, so I will not attempt to rehash the information and instead cite the source. Suffice to say, MLA uses ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 54. What Makes Augustine s Confessions Memorable Maddie Yamona Western Civilization II Mr. Horswell 29 September, 2017 What makes Augustine s Confessions memorable Augustine s Confessions was a major piece of work that heavily influenced the religion back in his times. Augustine s Confessions is still read today because of the relatability it shows in aspects of depression, love, and finding your identity. Throughout the book Augustine goes through his life and the decisions he has made and how they made him either a better or worse person. We can use Augustine s Confessions as a tool to also evaluate our own lives and decisions because of the way he judges himself and what he considers to be the best and worst things he has done and why. Augustine goes through trying to find himself through things of the world and then finally realizes why he can not when he steps back and looks at the fact that he must first find himself in God. Augustine finds himself going through hard times throughout the Confessions and this includes the struggle with depression. Augustine loses one of his very close friends and begins to become depressed, I raged and sighed and wept and worried, I could not rest, I could not think intelligent. (Augustine. 64). When Augustine becomes depressed he says that he does not want to be around people and people can relate to this because when people are upset they want time to themselves to think not time around other people. • 55. Analysis Of The Movie The Black Swan The Black Swan is a movie about a woman named Nina Sayers, who was a ballerina at an esteemed ballet company. The newest production the company was undertaking was a ballet called Swan Lake. Swan Lake was about a princess, the Swan Queen, who was turned into an evil Black Swan. In the movie, the role of the Swan Queen was highly sought after among the ballerinas, especially since the former principal dancer, Beth Macintyre, was recently let go from the company because of her age. Nina was also very interested in the role, and having been with the company for quite some time, auditioned for it. After she completed her audition, she received mixed feedback from the director, Thomas Leroy, about her performance. He told her that she was an excellent dancer, but she was also too rigid and stiff. He advised her to try to enjoy herself and add more personality in her dance instead of focusing, primarily, on her technique. His critique disappointed Nina because she desperately wanted to impress him. To make matters worse, she began to feel unsure of herself when a new dancer, Lily, arrived at the company. She especially felt threatened by Lily s presence after Thomas compared Lily s free and relaxed dance style with Nina s controlled and technical style. Eventually, Nina attempted to become more bold, both in her dancing and personal life, in an effort to win him over. As all of this was taking place, Nina began to experience strange visions consisting of disturbing ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 56. Norma Percy Death Of Yugoslavia Summary Nationalism, Security, and the Death of Yugoslavia Norma Percy s The Death of Yugoslavia frames the political events that took place towards the end of the Cold War that would ultimately result in the dissolvent of Yugoslavia. After the death of Josi Broz Tito, the once suppressed nationalism between the Serbsand Croats was reignited under the control of Slobodan Milosevic. The Serbs claimed that their people were poorly treated at that the Albanians yearned for an ethnically pure Yugoslavia. Unlike his predecessor, Milosevic catered to the Serbs, lending an ear to their nationalistic tendencies instead of crushing it. As tensions mounted, Milosevic launched a Serbian crusade, taking over the sovereign republics of Vojvodina and Montenegro. According to Percy (1995), the republic of Kosovo, full of Albanians, put up a fight but eventually bowed to Serbia through military force. With regard to Slovenia and Croatia, the two republics managed to hold their ground against Milosevic and declared independence in 1991. While... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Similar to when Hitler took over Europe, the surrounding states of Yugoslavia put forth little military effort to assist the republics that were under siege. What Percy (1995) fully fails to mention is that the Yugoslavian republics did not have the military capabilities to defend their own states; regardless of it was against Milosevic or another outside force and was only amplified when outside states provided no military backup (Baylis, Smith, Owens, 2014). Thus, it was relatively easy for one party, with federal force and of one ethnicity, to come in and take over. Additionally, without nationalism in the way, the Yugoslavian republics would have been able to come together and develop their military force on a state and federal ...
