Mrs. SH is an 83 year old retired Caucasian school teacher with a BMI of 22.9kg/m2. She
presented to her GP on 7 February 2014 with a six week history of diarrhoea. She described
having tanned, sandy, loose stools and a change of her usual passage of once daily, to two times.
She explained that she had lost two pounds over this period but denied having associated symptoms

She has never smoked and drinks three units of alcohol per week. She follows a high fat, low fibre
diet and is physically inactive.
On examination, SH was alert, responsive and comfortable at rest. She was apyrexic with a heart
rate of 90 beats per minute, blood pressure of 145/90 mmHg and oxygen saturation of 99% on air.
There were no peripheral stigmata of gastrointestinal disease nor was there cyanosis, anaemia,
jaundice or raised jugular venous pressure present.
On examination of her abdomen, there was no evidence of distension, visible masses, pulsations,
scars, bruises or stomas. Her abdomen was soft and non tender, with no palpable masses,
organomegaly or ascites noted. Percussion note and bowel sounds were normal. On reading her
notes, an irregular ano rectal mass was found on rectal examination. Bright red blood and faecal
matter were found on inspection of the glove.
Routine full blood count, liver function tests and urea and electrolytes were within normal range;
however, she was found to have elevated carcinoembryonic antigen (CEA), a tumour marker
associated with colorectal cancer. She was also positive for faecal occult blood. Subsequently, she
underwent a colonoscopy with biopsy that confirmed the diagnosis of rectal adenocarcinoma. MRI

I wish I could say it still surprises me when I mentioned to people that I attended an HBCU
(Historically Black College/University), some of them have no idea they exist. Often, it turns into
a conversation starter, which usually evolves into a meaningful educational moment about the
history of HBCU s. However, occasionally I find myself becoming frustrated when ask the
question why in a way that questions the validity and or need for HBCU s in 2016. As a student
at Hampton University I did not fully realize the impact it would have on me, but looking back, it

When the credits start to roll there is noise of rocks being smashed. The slave songs are heard
before the audience can see the picture. The slaves are singing the blues. (Blues are songs that
are full of sorrow) This could be effective because the audience could grasp even before the
picture emerged that the people who were singing were made to do hard labour. The picture then
merges in to show a black and white long shot of a landscape. The camera pans rounds and the
audience see a shot of two lines of prisoners doing hard labour, then a low angle shot shows them
chained together. This could explain to the audience why none of the prisoners are trying escape.
When the audience has seen the prisoners the camera goes into a wide angle shot and shows
three men running across a field and then jumping down. This can be quite comical as they are
being very obvious and could easily be seen but never do. There is a non diegetic sound, which
is used at the start when they are escaping. This is Bluegrass or country and western music. The
song talks about an imaginary place, a land of dreams. There is a parallel here with Everett and his

Wolves and humans have an ongoing battle between one another. Hunter vs the hunted, humans
are always the hunted and the wolf the hunter, but in an amazing turn of events humans take
matters into their own hands and become the hunters, demolishing the danger that hunts them,
the wolf. Wolves have been depicted as voracious killers, for as long as I can remember, and we
humans are the prey they seek, victims of their sharp teeth and thirst for blood. The media does
an extraordinary job in representing the wolf as a killer, deceiver and danger. Wolves however,
were a symbol of life in the olden days, around 300 BC. It wasn t until humans began to own
farm lands that this battle, and stigma developed. Wolves no longer became a symbol they

America there is a grand appeal to their methods and composition. Gangster film has a certain
formula, where any country can use its intrinsic convections, but it s also adaptable enough to

cinema following the Second World War, for example, there was a visible shift that had French

Isabel Allende s short story Clarisa records the story of a woman, reverenced by the people of
her community and who is kind without exception, even to those who wished her harm. Clarisa
gave everything she owned to the needy, (Allende 36). Her generous nature and adherence to
helping others depicts Clarisa as the model of affection and compassion, who gives absolutely
everything she owns and even spends the last cent of her dowry and inheritance (Allende 434).
For this very reason others hold her in high esteem and perceive her as saintlike. The imagery
used in the story is to help exhibit the respect and admiration that the narrator has for Clarisa. An
example of said admiration is when Clarisa arrives home from the parade for the Pope distraught
and confused. I combed her meringue hair high on her head, tied it with a ribbon, and then sat
down to accompany her through this crisis, not knowing exactly what it was, (Allende, 438). This
gives the reader a clue about Clarisa s age, as well as provides a brief descriptionof Clarisa. This
text also gives insight into the narrator s feelings towards Clarisa, and how concerned she is for
Clarisa s well being. Throughout the story Allende hints at the fact that Clarissa is at an age where
she has become more fragile and certain activities become too much for her body to handle. She
was exhausted when she reached the house, with the din of bells and cheering still ringing in her
