Ethics Case Study Adelphia Communication
In the world today, when you hear the words AT T, Cox Cable, DirectTV and Comcast the first
thing that would typically come to mind is enjoying sports and family television. Often time s
customers don t really know into the weeds of a company until something goes wrong. A
consumer may find interest in the event they have bought stocks into a company and they see it

to know that some of these organizations while looking squared away on the inside have such
serious ethical issues going on or that went on within their organization. The last thing a customer

what seems to be the early 2000s, this is for Americans, this company and the world things
drastically changed due to unethical behavior from some of the company s top leaders within the

all this happen over the course of a short time and how far people will go to gain what they believe
is success at any cost.
Introduction
In this case study we were asked to draw upon deontological ethics, and briefly discuss how
Adelphia Communications executives violated the trust of the company s shareholders and the
trust of that of the larger public. Throughout this paper I will highlight two key ethical problems
that were raised by the Adelphia Communications case. Utilizing Immanuel Kant s Categorical
Imperative, deontological ethics or so duty rights will be shared. Then I will apply the
deontological framework of business ethics to the two key ethical problems that will be identified.
Finally Kant s Categorical Imperative will be applied to those two ethical problems as well.

The Sunflower By Simon Wiesenthal
Sunflower dilemma In The Sunflower book by Simon wiesenthal there is a passage that includes
a delama; Karl ( a dying nazi soldier) was asking for forgiveness for his actions from Simon (a
jew). When forgiveness is asked, the person giving the forgiveness has to at times think about their
religion and think about who has the ability to forgive him/her. In the book karl admitted to seeing
the family that he shot at jump out the window then Then from the other windows fell burning
bodies...We shot... Religion has a big impact on if he/she should forgive the wrongdoer. Since
many jews don t believe in the next life and forgivenessis not a requirement and if i was in simon s

Characteristics Of Cultural Awareness In Africa
Cultural Awareness is a fundamental part of the NCO community and even the Commissioned
Officers community. The level of awareness is vital to one s survival if presented with the
situation of going into an area of the unknown. The country in which is going to be discussed is
a vast area with many different cultural anomalies. This country is Algeria. Culture and what it
stands for is of many meanings. The one that will be discussed is what most will find in any
location that they search. The definition is in short, the manifestations of human intellectual
achievements. There are also characteristics involved in culture as well. These can be defined as
the following: Learned Behavior: which is developed over time, some examples can be standing
in line, chewing gum, going to a concert, and even combing one s hair. Super organic: this
implies that culture is superior to nature . This word is useful when it implies that what may be
quite a different phenome from a cultural point of view. Pervasive: it touches every aspect of life.
Idealistic: it embodies the ideas and norms of a group. Variable: it varies from society to society,
group to group. These are just some of the many characteristics of culture. The cultural
characteristics of Algeria are language, demographics, government, economy, and military. The
first thing that is going to be looked at is the country s language. Algeria s language is filled with a
wide variety. Languages like Arabic which is

Social Justice In Amazing Grace
Faced with crime, poverty, and trauma daily, without intervention these children will, or already
have fallen through the cracks. These children are entitled to be protected from degrading
treatment, discrimination, and suffering. They have a right to good education, And a right to
housing, clothing, food and a standard of living adequate for the health and well being of himself
and of his family. And deserve access to medical care and necessary social services (United
Nations, 2014). These children are in need of social justice because their basic human rights are

also mentions dysfunctional clinics that provide health care that isn t regulated, or up to the
standards set by the American Health care system (Kozol, 2000). Why are these services failing
the residents of this neighborhood? With this many social service agencies at their disposable
who is to blame for the lack of service provided, and their poor quality of life? I would imagine that
the social workers in these agencies are following the code of ethics of The National Association of
Social Workers (NASW), and are attempting to provide the best service they can. Or are they? It
could be the agencies, funding streams or even local or state policy. If I was working in one of

The Inequality Of A Capitalist Society Essay
There are many inequalities prevalent in the US, and as a capitalist society, one of the most
common is economic inequality. The Equality Trust defines economic inequality, as the gap
between the well off and less well of in regards to overall economic distribution ( How Is ). See,
our capitalist society strongly benefits those with a capitalist mentality and can afford the means
to invest/own capital. Over the years there has been an increasing wealth gap between the top
one percent earners and the general population. So why are the rich flourishing while the poor
are struggling in this capitalist environment? The policy decisions of our country allow this
inequality to permeate throughout our industries, thus creating a culture of power and greed. One
result of this culture is the explosion of high salaries in the US and Emmanuel Saez explains this
trend in Striking it Richer. Saez affirms, Indeed, estimates based purely on wages and salaries
show that the share of total wage and salaries earned by the top 1 percent wage income earners has
jumped from 5.1 percent in 1970 to 12.0 percent in 2006 (Grusky 89). Too bad that the 99 percent
of America missed out on this massive economic growth spurt. When economic growth is not
evenly distributed among the general population, people tend to question our entire system. This
has been an increasingly controversial issue, where corporate America is responsible for the
constant exploitation of low level employees. Through my

Developing A Sustainable Marketing And Human Resource...
Description of the Project Proposal
The project requirement as I understand is to develop a sustainable marketing and human resource
structure for a well established Childcare centre that caters for local families with pre school aged
children in the surrounding suburbs and Swinburne University community.
This structure must have a low financial budget and also cater for further expansion in the future.
The client has indicated that they are actively seeking to advertise and raise the view of
Kindergarten with the aim of filling both 3 Year old and 4 year old programs to their capacity.
Therefore it is very important that the planned structure can fulfil the requirements of the clients. It
is also mentioned that the client is very cautious of a structure that all new individuals can follow
even if they don t have the right skills and experience needed to finish the task. This is proposed in
the form of the Annual Marketing Plan, which will be conducted by volunteers who constantly keep
changing every year. Therefore this designed structure must cater for the client with this particular
need. Furthermore, the client has indicated an interest in the professional development of their staff
and would like to conduct programs that would help the staff be motivated in the work they
perform. Although this is not yet confirmed as a definite trial, the designed structure should be able
to achieve this possibility.

An Analysis Of Rowling s Speech Doesn t Entrance Al
We do not need magic to change the world, we carry all the power we need inside ourselves
already: we have the power to imagine better (Rowling s Harvard Speech Doesn t Entrance Al.)
People in the 20th century raged about this book series. Some people grew a great love interest
towards this book and adored the characters. Others grew hatred toward the book and were
certain it was prompting wizardry. J.K. Rowling s series started a dynamic controversy that
elevated as she produced more and more book that uniquely impacted the United States
historically, socially and religiously. This series is about a half blooded wizards named Harry
James Potter or better known as the Boy Who Lived . When he was just one year and three
months old, Lord Voldemort attempted to kill him. Lord Voldemort is responsible for killing
Harry s mother and father. Harry was then forced to move in with a Muggle and the only blood
relative left, his Aunt Dursley. In this home, Harry was very unwelcome and not nurtured
whatsoever. Even though Harry was obviously greatly unloved, he remains sheltering there in
order to be safe from Lord Voldemort. When he was eleven years old, he began attending the
Hogwarts school of Witchcraft and Wizardry. From the moment Harry arrived at Hogwarts, he was
already famous considering he survived the Killing Curse , and Harry just grew more and more
famous throughout the book due to his heroic characteristics. At Hogwarts, Harry met his two best

Descriptive Essay Flowers
Whenever I see flowers growing on the ground outside I always think of one of my favorite lines
from one of my favorite stories that says There are flowers in your brain, You hurt them when
you re mean to yourself. When you re nice to yourself, you give the flowers water and
sunshine.Be nice to your flowers, don t step on them. I love this quote because even though the
story is about a girl who has an abusive uncle, kills him in self defense, forgets everything and is
basically a child, and then somehow made it to New York to visit a girl she hasn t seen since
high school, I believe that this line is an extremely important thing for everyone to take to heart
and do. The story also shows that even though Mila treated Lo horribly in high school and
basically ruined all of Lo s high school life the girls still let Mila stay with them when she just
randomly showed up at the apartment asking for a bed. Also one of the main characters really
reminds me of one of my best friends, sweet, childlike, and innocent. When they opened the old
burgundy colored front doorof their apartment, there standing in the dimly lit, olive green, the
wallpapered hallway was a girl about their age, maybe around 19, with long flowing wavy brown
hair that went down to her waist. The girl was looking down at the dirty tan carpeted floor of the
hallway, tracing one of the diamond patterns on the ground with the toe of her dirt covered,
white, Converse. Her hands seemed to be folded behind her back as she was rocking back and
forth tracing the diamond pattern on the cheap carpet. Then the brunette suddenly stopped,
seeming to sense that the door had been opened, and looked up. The stranger was wearing a
sunflower yellow hoodie that was at least a two sizes too big for her, the hem of it hitting her
about mid thigh, and a pair of close cut light wash skinny jeans that were ripped at the knees.
Her eyes were the color of hot chocolate made with milk, and they were open wide making her
look innocent and almost childlike. The only makeup she appeared to be wearing was a little bit
of mascara and clear lipgloss. She studied me in silence for a moment then gave me a wide, toothy
smile then proceeded to reveal that she was actually holding

same height, and Caiden kept tapping the puppy s head. After playing with the puppy for about
five minutes he took off running towards the cows. He ran right up to the fence and started to
moo at them. He did this for a few short minutes. Next, he ran back to the driveway where his
parents were. He began picking up rocks and asking me to hold them. Once he gave me a
handful of rocks, he would get his own handful and want to throw them. This activity was
repeated about eleven times. After he got tired of the rocks, he went into the barn and started to
pick up empty gas cans (the big ones that were about the same size as him). He would drag them
from one side to the other. I asked him why he was moving them and with the most serious look
on his face he responded, daddy does it. Once all the gas cans had been moved to his liking took
a significant amount of time he started to point to the top of a shelf, saying that, that. I eventually
figured out he was pointing to a rope. He wanted to put it around the gas cans. Later, his mom

Women in Hills like White Elephants and The Yellow...
Through history women have fought for equal rights and freedom. This tension is derived from
men; society, in general; and within a woman herself. In the nineteenth century, women in
literature were often portrayed as submissive to men. Literature of this period often characterized
women as oppressed by society, as well as by the male influences in their lives. This era is
especially interesting because it is a time in modern society when women were still treated as
second class citizens. Two interesting short stories, Hills like White Elephants and The Yellow
Wallpaper focus on a womans plight near the turn of the nineteenth century. Both authors,
Hemmingway and Gilman, leave an open end to the stories and allow readers to create... Show more

Instructed to abandon her intellectual life and avoid stimulating company, she sinks into a still
deeper depression invisible to her husband, which is also her doctor, who believes he knows
what is best for her. Alone in the yellow wallpapered nursery of a rented house, she descends into
madness. Everyday she keeps looking at the torn yellow wallpaper. While there, she is forbidden
to write in her journal, as it indulges her imagination, which is not in accordance with her husband
s wishes. Despite this, the narrator makes entries in the journal whenever she has the opportunity.
Through these entries we learn of her obsession with the wallpaper in her bedroom. She is
enthralled with it and studies the paper for hours. She thinks she sees a woman trapped behind the
pattern in the paper. The story reaches its climax when her husband must force his way into the
bedroom, only to find that his wife has pulled the paper off the wall and is crawling around the
perimeter of the room.
Hills Like White Elephants and The Yellow Wallpaper are both about couples dealing with a
delicate situation in a time when the power of men over women is obvious. The characters in both
stories show that the man has more control and authority than the woman. Hills Like White
Elephants demonstrates this through the use of the setting, time restrictions, and poor
communication exhibited by the couple. In The Yellow

Nathan Hale
In the small town of Coventry, Connecticut on June 6, 1755, Nathan Hale was born, to devout
Puritans, Deacon Richard Hale and Elizabeth Strong Hale. Hale was the sixth of twelve children.
The Hale s had 9 boys and 3 girls. Hale s parents were concerned that he wouldn t survive his first
year, like the two children before Hale (Lough 8). Even though he was a sickly small child, with
weak lungs he did not let that stop him from loving the outdoors (Lough). As Hale got older, he
became stronger. Sadly Hale s mother Elizabeth died when he was 12 shortly after giving birth to
her 12th child (Tracy 16). It is thought that Hale s father Richard remarried a wealthy widow,

rural town was a culture shock for Hale (Tracy 23), Even though he was well liked, he was still
lonely. But a couple months later he was offered a job at Union School in New London, Connecticut
, which he gladly accepted. He fell in love with New London. It was busy and exciting like New
Haven. Hale taught math, Latin, literature and writing to 30 young men until 1774, when Hale
got permission to start teaching 20 young women. The young women were not able to attend
school during normal hours, so they came earlier. His friends teased him about the girls not
coming to school for Hale s great teaching but for his great looks which may or may not be true.
In late 1774, he was offered a promotion to master of Union School and he gladly accepted.
During Hale s teaching career, a war was going on. He had heard about many battles and attended
many town hall meetings. Hale spoke out at one saying Let us march immediately, and never lay
down our [weapons] until we obtain independence! He made a decision to stop teaching and join
the Connecticut regiment of the Continental Army. His regiment left immediately but he stayed
behind to fulfill his teaching duties, he stayed in New

Flexible Organization
A proper flexible organization provides its work force arrangements where employees are given
greater freedom to balance their work and personal commitments such as family, higher education,
community activities, religious commitments, professional development, and general interests.
Above is Atkinson s model of a flexible firm. He argued that firms increasingly seek 4 kinds of
flexibility functional, numerical, pay, distancing.
Functional flexibility is a qualitative approach to work, and refers to management s ability to deploy
and redeploy particular sections of the workforce on a wide range of tasks in response to market
demand as and when required (Sparrow 1998 cited in Teicher Holland 2006 p. 241 242). To ensure
that this ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Flexible work arrangements has its pros, unfortunately it does have its disadvantages as well.
First of all, it is important that employers need to recognize that flexible work arrangements are
not always appropriate for all people, jobs or industries. For example, if companies allow its
service workers to arrive to work at different hours, customer service may suffer. Potential
customers are forced to either wait or seek somewhere else. This also concerns manufacturers;
many factory operations rely on employees to arrive at the same time, because they depend on each
other for the smooth flowing of production.
In its hard form it can also mean the intensification of work by redressing jobs to include a greater
variety of low skilled tasks without any skill development (Teicher Holland 2006 p. 242)
Critics also contend that flexible programs often leave managers in difficult situations. As Martha
H. Peak wrote in Management Review (1994) Far too often, flex is embraced В… for its family
friendly aspects long before the corporate support needed to manage it takes root. In these
companies, flex policies are outlined in the employee manual but implementation is left up to
individual managers. Then, when managers try to implement these programs, they discover that to
be fair, flex requires them to treat different employees differently.
Telecommuting and other flexi place arrangements can be disastrous if employees are

The Government And Its Effects On The Minority Report By...
The government plays a major role in dystopic stories and novels, and as these stories start to
unfold, one can see the flaws in which how government works and how if effects the rest of
society. In the Minority Report, written by Philip K. Dick, the mechanisms of the government s
systems begins to show different flaws when surveillance is use to determine the pre crimeof major
crimes, and what happens to their citizens once a verdict is reached. Any type of Government
surveillance can do more harm than good, due to the fact they invade the privacyof the people, in
some cases resulting in giving innocent people unfair and unlawful punishments, and also because
it can fail to protect and create an aspect of fear among their citizens.
In The Minority Report, Philip K. Dick creates a government that can make an arrest with the
assumption that their suspect is guilty, without taking into consideration that there was a minority
report, which is the chance that their suspect is innocent. The people of this society had begun to
see how this system is corrupt, and the coming to the point of how, If no arrests were made, there
would still have been no crimes committed. As people see the chances of innocent citizens being
arrested for no crime, they begin to think, how many murders would actually take place, and how
many people would be falsely accused. When the flaw of arresting innocent people is first drawn
to attention, it is made clear that any person who had be given a

Who Is Better Than Stand-Up Comedy
We are living in a time where it seems as if we as a people cannot agree on anything. We are
living what appears to be a turbulent time in a nation that is dividing further and further apart. With
all the terrible things going on in the nation we all need an escape from time to time. To me one of
the best escapes form the chaos in the world is laughter. What better way to get that laughter
delivered to you, than stand up comedy? Over the years I have not met many people that do not
enjoy going to a comedy show. The one thing that I have found is that most people either do not

That is why I cannot understand why it can be like pulling teeth to get people to come out and
support a live local stand up comedy show. Is it really worth it to spend an exorbitant amount of
money on a ticket to go watch a world famous comedian in an arena or a theater? I am not trying
to say that those shows are not fun and that those comedians do not deserve to have us go watch
them, they worked hard to get there. What I am saying is, that going to a comedy club setting is
a much more enjoyable experience. Instead of spending an arm and a leg on a ticket. You can
spend a fraction of the price and probably get friends to come along with you. It is so much
better to sit at a table full of friends instead of in a row in a cramped chair next to strangers. With
the money you saved, you and your friends can go out to eat before, and order more drinks at
your table at the show. There is not much better than getting dressed up and going out and having
a fun night with a group of loved ones. Many people are afraid of going into intimate settings for
fear of being picked on by the comedians on stage. I am here to tell you, that the vast majority of
comedians do not pick on the crowd. It is already hard enough to get a crowd there, why would
they make them not feel comfortable. They do however, interact with the crowd making the show
more inclusive. Something that you would not get at an arena or theater show, unless you buy
front row tickets. The audience just becomes an amorphous mass of nothingness for me, there s no

All magnets produce their own invisible magnetic field that s unable to be seen with the naked

Advantages Of Dual Citizenship
Also known as multiple citizenship or dual nationality , dual citizenship refers to one who is a legal
citizen in two different countries, at the same time. One is able to retain his or her citizenship from
their home country, and attain another citizenship at the same time. However, this is applicable
only if both countries permit dual citizenship. As a dual citizen, one can have privileges such as
easy access to multiple countries without a visa. But as a dual citizen, one has to fulfill their duties
towards both countries, such as paying tax to both countries. There are over 90 countries that grant
dual citizenship, some of them are United Kingdom, United States and Canada. Dual citizenship

This may cause friction between the foreigners and the native citizens, and result in serious
social problems. It will be difficult for foreigners to blend in with the native citizens; the
foreigners will have to follow the customs and ways of the natives. But problems will arise when
foreigners do not engage themselves in the country fully, and view the country as a place for
them to make a living. As a Singaporean, I feel that the local government should not allow dual
citizenship. Dual citizenship can be a wonderful thing, as one can enjoy the perks of being a
citizen from all over the world. However, citizenship is something that should not be taken for
granted. Singapore is a country bounded by many strict laws and fines. If dual citizenship is
allowed, who can guarantee that Singaporeans would not pack their bags and leave for another
country, which can offer the same benefits and more freedom? During times of war, which
country, will one, defends? Which country has a higher priority? If Singapore is plagued by
disasters or economic recessions, will Singaporeans remain in Singapore or leave with their dual
citizenship? By allowing dual citizenship, the sense of loyalty towards Singapore is reduced. Dual
citizenship for Singapore could also mean that more and more foreigners will take up residency in
Singapore, and it could salvage the ageing population

Who Is The New Wave Of British Heavy Metal Affect The...
Musical expression and tastes are dynamic, always evolving to suit the desires of the listeners.
From 1979 to about 1983, a New Wave of metal was a major force in the music industry. Before
the New Wave could begin, however, a strong foundation of Heavy Metal was laid by bands
such as Black Sabbath, Led Zeppelin, and Deep Purple. The New Wave of British Heavy Metal
changed music completely by influencing many bands and creating several new genres. Heavy
metal is a genre that developed in the late 1960s and the early 1970s in the United States and the
United Kingdom. Heavy metal was influenced by mostly blues, psychedelic rock, prog rock,
punk, and classic metal. The elements of heavy metal consists of highly amped distortion,
extended guitar solos, emphatic beats, loudness, and more. The line up of a heavy metal band
commonly consists of a drummer, bassist, rhythm guitarist, lead guitarist, and the singer. Some
bands even had a keyboardist. Bands like Led Zeppelin, Deep Purple and Black Sabbath helped
create this new genre. Judas priest also had a major role in the development in the genre as well.

The Economic And Political Openness Of Globalization
The economic and political openness that globalization brings to developing nations has no only
an effect on the economy, but the culture of its people. Therefore, ... people in more open
countries are less dependent on the authorities for their livelihoods. [Also in] a more open
economy and society, the CNN effect of global media and consumer attention [of today] exposes
and discourages the abuse of workers (Griswald). As stated before, technological progression has
been the tool of globalizationthat made sure that ideas regarding human and political equality has
made its way into autocratic and developing nations. With the aid of technology, more profoundly
social media, western non governmental organizations can expose severe human rights violations in
developing nations and call use it call for political and social reforms. To that extend, technology
has widely facilitated the infusion of democratic norms, and the principles of human rights that
support them, into many international and regional institutions (Dalpino). Developing and
autocratic nations ( most notably China) have come to the realization that in order to foster capital
and become accepted into the worldwide trade market, they must concentrate on bettering the social
lives of its people by adapting and protecting their entitled human rights. Perhaps the most profound
example of the influence globalization lies in the Asian continent where a number of nations like

Ragnarök Research Paper
The Rath of Loki and his Children During Ragnarök In Norse Mythology, Loki is a
mischievous, trickster who has the ability to change his sex and shape. He also has three children
with a giantess named Angrboða.The event, Ragnarök also known as Doomsday, translates
from Old Norse to Doom of all Gods which is fitting in the way that it s the end of all god and men.
Lokiand Ragnarök are connected in the way that Loki s children all wreak havoc during
Ragnarök. Loki fathers the most monstrous enemies of the gods: the Midgard serpent named
Jörmungand, the wolf Fenrir and the death goddess, Hel. When the mighty god Odinfound out

The connection between Hel and Ragnarök is through Odin s son Baldur. Baldur was one of
the most beloved of all the gods. Baldur was a generous, joyful, and courageous character who
gladdened the hearts of all who spent time with him. When, therefore, he began to have ominous
dreams of some grave misfortune befalling him, the fearful gods appointed Odin to discover
their meaning. Odin mounted his eight legged steed, Sleipnir, and rode him to the underworld.
When he reached the cold and misty underworld, he found the halls arrayed in splendor, as if
some magnificent feast were about to occur. He soon found out that guest of honor for this
festivity was to be none other than Baldur. Odin returned in sorrow to Asgard, the gods celestial
stronghold, and told his fellow gods what he had been told. Frigg, wanting for any chance of
saving her treasured son, went to every thing in the cosmos and obtained oaths to not harm
Baldur. After these oaths were secured, the gods made a sport out of the situation. They threw
sticks, rocks, and anything else on hand at Baldur, and everyone laughed as these things
bounced off and left the shining god unharmed. Loki saw an opportunity to cause mischief and
took it. In disguise, he went to Frigg and asked her, Did all things swear oaths to spare Baldur
from harm? Oh, yes, the goddess replied, everything except the mistletoe. But the mistletoe is so
small and innocent a thing that I felt it superfluous to ask it for an oath. What harm could it do to
my son? Immediately after hearing this, Loki located the mistletoe, and brought it to where the
gods were playing their new favorite game. He approached the blind god Hod and said, You must
feel quite left out, having to sit back here away from the merriment, not being given a chance to
show Baldur the honor of proving his invincibility. The blind god

were fighting in the alley... I then left them and went to King street. I then saw a party of soldiers

of the inhabitants cry out, heave no snow balls , others cried they dare not fire . The Boston

Essay on Donnie Darko
Donnie Darko In recent years, Hollywood has specialised in churning out mainstream trash; generic
fodder not even fit for the cutting room floor. Yet despite these movies shortcomings, they continue
to enjoy success at the box office. Sequel upon sequel, photo fit remake upon photo fit remake,
frequently taking the box office by storm whilst simultaneously relegating smaller independent
projects to the now relatively unheard of arthouse cinemas. The tragedy is that the independent
filmmakers are often those with the most talent; the most creativity; the most flair. One such
filmmaker is director Richard... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In fact, each frame speaks to us on more profound terms than the majority of arthouse films would
claim to do. This is, in part, due to the impeccable performances by each and every member of the
cast. Jake Gyllenhaal, a relative unknown, delivers a subtle yet emotionally charged performance
as Donnie himself the scene in which he tells his psychologist of his various childhood traumas is
made both funny and moving by the haunting way in which Jake delivers each line, contrasted
with the almost childish qualities of his movements on the couch. Most incredible of all,
however, is his terrifying screen presence as he trudges slowly through a deserted corridor or along
a dark street, head tilted slightly forward, face fixed in a confused, bewildered expression. Drew
Barrymore is also superb as the liberal high school teacher rejected and scorned in a Conservative
education system, while Patrick Swayze is excellent in his extended cameo, a smartly observed
satire of a self help guru with a few skeletons in the closet.
Where the movie comes into its own, however, is in its ability to incorporate and deal with a
variety of genres. Every movie genre seems to make an appearance, so much so that to categorise
the movie as simply a psychological horror or a supernatural thriller would be an unforgivable
insult. Even

Politics And Politics Of Mexico
Politics has had significant impacts on states. Depending on the state, they can be positive or
negative. The politics of Mexico can be represented by three authors: Seeing Like a State by James
Scott, Transitions to Democracy by Dankwart Rustow, and End of the Transition Paradigm by
Thomas Carothers all exemplify the politics of the country of Mexico.
Mexico can be described as a country de democratizing; it is still officially a democratic unity, but
citizens are skeptical about completely trusting their government. The political system has an
effective organizational basis, meaning the checks and balances concept also applies to their
government and citizens are able to vote for favorable political candidates, however, often ... Show

The arrangement of cities is important to facilitate political control.
In regards to the influence of politics towards a state, Rustow discusses the process to which
democracy is developed. National unity is key, and is the foundation of the process (Rustow 1970:
350); Lacking national unity would mean that democracy would not be able to flourish, or even
begin developing. By national unity, Rustow means that as a whole, a majority of citizens in a
country not yet in a democracy, must agree on identification of their political status (Rustow 351).
This would allow the transition to democracy to be more smoothly, and have minimal conflict since
the majority of citizens would agree on their political identification for their country.
Secondly, however, conflict is necessary, according to Rustow (Rustow 352). Conflict would
eventually lead the opponents to end up with democracy, but Rustow still recognizes the possible
failure of reaching democracy through conflict (Rustow 355). Conflict will force the parties
involved to think of ways to secede from such turmoil, thus democracy could be a possible
outcome. But, the possibility still exists that both parties will not reach a solution or that one party
may win and lead the way towards a non democratic political system (Rustow 354).

The Citizen Architect Is Not Driven By The Financial Gain...
Cesal argues that the citizen architect should be concerned with their role within the community
and how to better serve the people that comprise it. A true citizen architect is not driven by the
financial gain of the projects themselves or the social status attributed to them. Instead the architect
should re evaluate their role as a true servant of the public and implement that sense of purpose to
drive their craft rather than just the desire for social status. Cesal desires for architects to go
beyond their professional title and actively seek out ways to better their environment by bridging
the gap between architects and their communities. He is asking architects to take responsibility in
their communities and not merely pass the problems on to other public servants. There is a needfor
architects and politics to coexist to on equal grounds within projects to ultimately decipher what is
best for the communal area.
Cesal argues that with these complications skyrocketing within the past years and consistently
increasing, architects should have considered this an issue long ago. Although we cannot turn back
the clock, we are able to control what happens today and the day that are to come. One of the most
important pieces of insight that Cesal exposes to his audience is that architects need to embrace
this notion in all matters of their professional life to truly reap the societal benefits from it. Only
then can we begin to deconstruct and revaluate the role of

History And The United States
The history of journalism in the United States has spanned from the first colonist crossing the
Atlantic Ocean to today s mass media. Even before we were a country we had printers and
journalists writing and printing stories for the people. Looking back, we can divide journalism
history into different time periods and see how news reporting developed over time. Some of
these time periods include the Colonial Period which spanned from when the first Pilgrims came
to America in the mid 1600 s till the 1760 s. Other periods include the Revolution period which
picked up from the colonial period till the early 1780 s. The period of Westward Expansion lasted
from the 1800 to the 1830 s, then there was the Civil WarPeriod which spanned from the 1840 s till
the 1860 s. Finally, the Interpretative Period which lasted from 1930 s and continues to today.
Looking back at these time periods we can see what was considered news and what was
newsworthy , the dominate issues of the periods, and how far we have come as a society from
those issues. The Colonial Period was the beginning of not only out country, but also the beginning
of our system of journalism. The colonial period dates back to the first settlers sailing over the
Atlantic in search of religious and political freedom from their oppressors in Europe. The people
during this time had a small definition for what they considered dominate news. In this time period,
most of the colonies had yet to be settled, and news only

America, the home of the brave and land of the free. The national anthem states this and the media
attempts to portray it to the fullest. The term mass incarceration describes the increasing rate of
imprisonment in the United States of America. The media coverage of mass incarceration differs,
some argue that this term is simply an exaggerated theory, while others believe mass incarceration
has become embedded in our society as a repeat of historical injustices. Dorothy E Roberts, social
justice advocate and American scholar, wrote an article The Social and Moral Cost of Mass
Incarceration in African AmericanCommunities, discussing the social and moral effects of mass
incarceration on African American communities. Roberts writes radical changes in crime control
and sentencing policies led to an unprecedented buildup of the United States prison population

In 605 B.C during Jehoiakim s reign, the Babylonian s king Nebuchadnezzar took Daniel and his

standards, which the king was searching for: young men, good looking and smart. During the time
of captivity, Daniel, the author of the book of the Bible with the same name, writes about the
dreams, visions and situations he passed in the course of the captivity. Indeed Daniels actions

Summary Of On Thin Ice
In modern times, when individuals think about environmental problems, climate change seems to
always be at the forefront. Whether people learned through the Paris Climate Accord or the internet
about the devastating effects that a warming climate could bring, most of society can at least
acknowledge that climatechange is a hot political talking point. Because of this, more and more
research has been focused on the effects that a changing climate could bring about. Research on the
effects of climate change range from the percentage of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere and its
effects on global temperatures, to the rate at which glacial iceis melting and sea level rise. This
documentary, On Thin Ice, is concerned with the relationship between a warming climate and the
rate at which the Gangotri Glacierhas been melting over several years. This film discusses the
different effects that a rapidly melting Gangotri has on water scarcity in Indian villages located
downstream as well as the ways that Americans could be affected by this environmental
phenomenon. On Thin Ice begins with the host, David Brancaccio, presenting the main focus of the
film: the effects that a warming climate could have on the endangered Gangotri Glacier. Brancaccio
then introduces Conrad Anker, an accomplished mountaineer and environmentalist. Both
Brancaccio and Anker decide to go on a long hiking trek to see firsthand, the ways that the Gangotri

their anthem to the Golden State, California Love as the spark that ignited his creative bonfire.
Born on June 17, 1987 to couple who moved from Chicago to Compton with only $500 to their
names in order to escape the gang lifestyle, Lamar was exposed to guns, drugs, and violence at a
young age. I m 6 years old, seein my uncles playing with shotguns, sellin dope in front of the
apartment. Lamar witnessed his first murder outside his family s apartment when he was 5
years old a teenager gunned down while selling drugs. Although Lamar was never affiliated with
a gang, his whereabouts did put him into a few tense situations with gang members; in the song
Average Joe, Lamar recounts his experience being shot at by a group of Crips simply because of
the neighborhood in which he lived. But instead of being caught up in the whirlpool of gang
banging that takes the lives of so many young Compton residents before him, he used his
experiences as motivation and fodder for exploding music career. As a kid living in one of the
most violent cities in America, Lamar kept a low profile. He made good grades in school and
generally kept to himself a habit he would soon be forced to overcome. One example being when
Lamar knew the answer to a math problem during class, but he was too

Understanding Eating Disorders through a Biomedical Model...
Can We Better Understand Eating Disorders, Namely Anorexia Nervosa, Through A Biomedical
Model Or By Socio cultural Analysis?
It s like I never knew what self respect was all about until now. The thinner I get, the better I
feel...this has become the most important thing I ve ever done. (Ciseaux, 1980, p.1468)
Incidences of Anorexia Nervosa have appeared to increase sharply in the USA, UK and western
European countries since the beginning of the 60s (Gordon, 2001). The increasing prevalence
of the disease has led the World Health Organisation to declare eating disorders a global priority
area within adolescent mental health (Becker et al. 2011). Anorexia has in many ways become a
modern epidemic (Gordon, 2000) and with a mortality rate of 10% per decade (Gorwood et al.
2003), the highest of any mental disorder (Bulik et al. 2006), it is an epidemic that social and
biological scientists have been working tirelessly to understand.
There are several bio medical definitions of anorexia; The NHS refers to an anorexic as someone
who tries to keep their weight as low as possible, by restricting diet, often over exercising and in
some cases through the use of laxatives and diuretics (NHS, 2014). The DSM V definition
similarly suggests that anorexia is characterised by a refusal to maintain body weight at or above
the minimally normal weight for age and height (DSM V, 2014). Both definitions highlight an
intense fear of gaining weight and a hugely distorted perception

Schindler s List Of The Holocaust Essay
Schindler s List was one of the first critically acclaimed Holocaust films in the United States.
Director Steven Spielberg set out to make a historically accurate film about Oskar Schindler,
portrayed by Liam Neeson, and his Jews. It has been over 20 years since the film s release and
Schindler s List continues to reign supreme when it comes to Holocaust films. However, this is not
to say that the film has not been without controversy specifically surrounding the film s historical
accuracy. While often hailed for its accuracy, it would be inaccurate to imply the film is completely
correct. Spielberg sacrifices historical accuracy numerous times for the sake of manipulating the
audience and telling the Holocauststory that he believes should be told, a story that puts Schindler
in the forefront while the Jewstake a backseat. The historical inaccuracies of the film led to the
assumption that Schindler s List is less about the Jews and the Holocaust and more about
Schindler, making the film to be more of a biopic. The portrayal of Jews in Schindler s List has
been critiqued and remained problematic since the film was released in 1993. Per Spielberg,
Schindler s List was supposed to be a Jewish film that was by Jews, about Jews, and for Jews to
use against non Jews. However, the film often missed the mark to show this. The film, which
focuses mostly on Schindler, makes the Jews out to be passive victims who willingly accepted their
fate until Schindler arrives. For

Legislating the Family: Heterosexist Bias in Social Welfare Policy Frameworks Amy Lind
University of Virginia Studies in Women and Gender Program This article addresses the effects of
heterosexist bias in social welfare policy frameworks on lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender
(LGBT) individuals and families in the United States. It discusses the Personal Responsibility and
Work Opportunity Reconciliation Act (PRWORA), the Defense of Marriage Act (DOMA), federal
definitions of family and household, and stereotypes about LGBT individuals. It argues that
poor LGBT individuals and families lack full citizen rights and access to needed social services as a
result of these explicit and implicit biases. Key words: Welfare reform; family... Show more content

Jones observe (2002: 15). In these ways, institutionalized heterosexuality is central to some of the
key motivation(s) behind and design of public policy frameworks in the United States. By
institutionalized heterosexuality I am referring to the set of ideas, institutions and relationships that
make the heterosexual family the societal norm, while rendering homosexual/queer families
abnormal or deviant (Ingraham 1999). My queer analysis of social welfare involves examining
how sexuality and gender can be rethought and reorganized in economic and social policy
frameworks, theories and practices. Throughout the article I examine how heterosexuality is
assumed to be the natural basis for defining the family, and by extension, society, both explicitly
(by excluding LGBT people from the analysis and by stigmatizing certain individuals as non
family or anti family ) and implicitly (by assuming that all people are heterosexual, that marriage is
a given and exists only between a traditionally defined man and woman, and that all people fit
more or less into traditional gender roles; see Foucault 1978; Fraser and Gordon 1994; Ingraham

Comprehensive School Counseling Program Evaluation Essay
In order to provide a comprehensive school counseling program (CSCP) that meets the unique
needs of Ocean Elementary School, the school counselor must understand the needs of the school.
Therefore, conducting a needs assessment can help a new school counselor to evaluate the CSCP in
order to plan, implement, and improve the effectiveness of the program (Astramovich Coker, 2007).
Additionally, utilizing the accountability bridge counseling program evaluation model, a
continuous evaluation cycle helps to improve services based on stakeholder feedback, the needs of
those served, and outcomes (Astramovich Coker, 2007). Within this model, a needs assessment
must be conducted in order to plan and develop services that address the needs of the students
(Astramovich Coker, 2007). Thus, by utilizing assessment questionnaires, the school counselorcan
gather information from the diverse population of students, parents, teachers, and administrator to
determine how the CSCP can best support all students needs (American School Counselor
Association [ASCA], 2012). Additionally, the use of other data, such as observations, standardized
testscores, absentee rates, and student referrals can support the feedback received on the
questionnaires. Based on the data, the school counselor can evaluate the school counseling program
in order to improve the program in the domain areas of academic, social/emotional, and career
development. Thus, within the accountability bridge counseling

Huck Finn Racism
Is Huckleberry Finn racist? Huckleberry Finn or Huck Finn for short has had plenty of
controversy since the book was first published. Many people believe that because of the words
Twain used in the book many people blatantly believe that the book Huck Finn is racist. Since
the book was First Published people have been trying to ban and not allow people to read Huck
Finn. Many people believe that Huck Finn should not be taught in school simply because of the
tone and words Twain decided to use while writing the book while others, on the contrary,
believe that Huck Finn had a powerful message that spoke against racism and slavery. Falling
from grace ( Twain 35) This quote can mean many different things, but how most people see it, it
can show how much this book affected racism and hate in the U.S.A it really portrays what life
was like during the time period that Huck Finn was set in. Why should Huck Finn be taught in
school and why is there so much controversy surrounding a novel. The video we watched in class
gave us the story of a mother and a daughter who decided that because their views and closed
mindedness was more important than allowing students to learn what life was like and why it is
so important to never repeat those mistakes again, all because they are much too feeble minded to
realize the impact of Huck Finn. Huck Finn as a work of literature is very important in that Twain

Core Aeration
How Can Core Aeration in Lexington KY Benefit You?
Soil needs to breathe under the surface of vegetation, and when we talk about that, we talk about
aeration. Everything that is living needs oxygen for combustion of fuel to procure energy, for the
preservation of life. Therefore, it becomes very crucial to take care of the lawn soil, in order to
facilitate the beauty of the landscape. Lawn aeration could be as simple as removing chunks of soil
around the plant or digging holes to allow oxygen, fertilizers, and water to enter the soil. In
technical terms, it is just soil cultivation which has to be done in order to aerate the lawn.
How could one be benefitted from aeration?
Removing weed, unwanted growth, digging the soil and perforation, are all processes involved in
aeration. Aeration promotes good health to the soil and the vegetation. Everything about core lawn
aeration has benefits written over it. It allows the exchange of oxygen and other ... Show more

This process of air exchange between the soil and the roots is basically what we are talking
about and aiming at. Landscaping is our area of expertise and we are fully equipped to achieve
the same. As far as core aeration is concerned, digging out chunks of compacted soil which allow
the exchange of oxygen, water, and nutrients, is very crucial to successful landscaping. Everything
about core lawn aeration sounds tedious, considering the amount of time it consumes and the
expenses one has to bear. However, core aeration is required just once in a year, mainly during the
spring. We, the team of core aeration in Lexington KY, help relieve the soil of your lawn from
compaction, beautifying the landscape. The perforation of the soil makes it more tolerant to heat
and extreme conditions and the reduced soil compaction makes the lawn grow in no time. Thus, the
picturesque, core aeration in Lexington KY provides, is highly enticing and

Adjustment To College Essay
Adjusting to college life immediately after school becomes a toilsome transition for many
students. The decision to go to college depends on many reasons: earning a degree; increasing
knowledge; or self development. Going to college gives a chance to the students to learn new
things, meet new people, to deal effectively with new experiences and challenges which eventually
help them in their personal growth and development. According to Arkoff (1968), the definition of
collegeadjustment reflects on how much an individual achieves through it and its effect on his
personal growth. Tinto(1993) has proposed three stages that students move through from school to
college i.e. separation, transition and incorporation. According to Astin s (1999) theory... Show

Students whose expectations were fearful reported more stress, depression, and poorer university
adjustment than sstudents with other types of expectations, particularly prepared. Also Mohan
(1992) asserts that adjustment improves with age. Adjustment to college involves a variety of
demands differing in kind and degree and requiring lot of coping responses or adjustments. It s not
only academics with which the students are concerned; they are equally affected by the social and
emotional changes. The first year students have an increased personal freedom where they have to
make their own decisions and take the responsibility to maintain balance between various
newfound demands. In college they are required to adjust to the new environment and to work out
their concerns directly with the teachers. Students are expected to be independent learners in
college where they need to adjust with the new academic demands. It is different from what they
have experienced in school because here they have to face more competition, deal with more
academic load and to follow the different teaching styles of various

Throughout this paper I will highlight two key ethical problems that were raised by the Adelphia Communications case. Utilizing Immanuel Kant s Categorical Imperative, deontological ethics or so duty rights will be shared. Then I will apply the deontological framework of business ethics to the two key ethical problems that will be identified. Finally Kant s Categorical Imperative will be applied to those two ethical problems as well. • 6. The Inequality Of A Capitalist Society Essay There are many inequalities prevalent in the US, and as a capitalist society, one of the most common is economic inequality. The Equality Trust defines economic inequality, as the gap between the well off and less well of in regards to overall economic distribution ( How Is ). See, our capitalist society strongly benefits those with a capitalist mentality and can afford the means to invest/own capital. Over the years there has been an increasing wealth gap between the top one percent earners and the general population. So why are the rich flourishing while the poor are struggling in this capitalist environment? The policy decisions of our country allow this inequality to permeate throughout our industries, thus creating a culture of power and greed. One result of this culture is the explosion of high salaries in the US and Emmanuel Saez explains this trend in Striking it Richer. Saez affirms, Indeed, estimates based purely on wages and salaries show that the share of total wage and salaries earned by the top 1 percent wage income earners has jumped from 5.1 percent in 1970 to 12.0 percent in 2006 (Grusky 89). Too bad that the 99 percent of America missed out on this massive economic growth spurt. When economic growth is not evenly distributed among the general population, people tend to question our entire system. This has been an increasingly controversial issue, where corporate America is responsible for the constant exploitation of low level employees. Through my ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 7. Developing A Sustainable Marketing And Human Resource... Description of the Project Proposal The project requirement as I understand is to develop a sustainable marketing and human resource structure for a well established Childcare centre that caters for local families with pre school aged children in the surrounding suburbs and Swinburne University community. This structure must have a low financial budget and also cater for further expansion in the future. The client has indicated that they are actively seeking to advertise and raise the view of Kindergarten with the aim of filling both 3 Year old and 4 year old programs to their capacity. Therefore it is very important that the planned structure can fulfil the requirements of the clients. It is also mentioned that the client is very cautious of a structure that all new individuals can follow even if they don t have the right skills and experience needed to finish the task. This is proposed in the form of the Annual Marketing Plan, which will be conducted by volunteers who constantly keep changing every year. Therefore this designed structure must cater for the client with this particular need. Furthermore, the client has indicated an interest in the professional development of their staff and would like to conduct programs that would help the staff be motivated in the work they perform. Although this is not yet confirmed as a definite trial, the designed structure should be able to achieve this possibility. Marketing Team and Human Resource Proposals This project proposal ... • 9. Descriptive Essay Flowers Whenever I see flowers growing on the ground outside I always think of one of my favorite lines from one of my favorite stories that says There are flowers in your brain, You hurt them when you re mean to yourself. When you re nice to yourself, you give the flowers water and sunshine.Be nice to your flowers, don t step on them. I love this quote because even though the story is about a girl who has an abusive uncle, kills him in self defense, forgets everything and is basically a child, and then somehow made it to New York to visit a girl she hasn t seen since high school, I believe that this line is an extremely important thing for everyone to take to heart and do. The story also shows that even though Mila treated Lo horribly in high school and basically ruined all of Lo s high school life the girls still let Mila stay with them when she just randomly showed up at the apartment asking for a bed. Also one of the main characters really reminds me of one of my best friends, sweet, childlike, and innocent. When they opened the old burgundy colored front doorof their apartment, there standing in the dimly lit, olive green, the wallpapered hallway was a girl about their age, maybe around 19, with long flowing wavy brown hair that went down to her waist. The girl was looking down at the dirty tan carpeted floor of the hallway, tracing one of the diamond patterns on the ground with the toe of her dirt covered, white, Converse. Her hands seemed to be folded behind her back as she was rocking back and forth tracing the diamond pattern on the cheap carpet. Then the brunette suddenly stopped, seeming to sense that the door had been opened, and looked up. The stranger was wearing a sunflower yellow hoodie that was at least a two sizes too big for her, the hem of it hitting her about mid thigh, and a pair of close cut light wash skinny jeans that were ripped at the knees. Her eyes were the color of hot chocolate made with milk, and they were open wide making her look innocent and almost childlike. The only makeup she appeared to be wearing was a little bit of mascara and clear lipgloss. After he got tired of the rocks, he went into the barn and started to pick up empty gas cans (the big ones that were about the same size as him). He would drag them from one side to the other. I asked him why he was moving them and with the most serious look on his face he responded, daddy does it. • 11. Women in Hills like White Elephants and The Yellow... Through history women have fought for equal rights and freedom. This tension is derived from men; society, in general; and within a woman herself. In the nineteenth century, women in literature were often portrayed as submissive to men. Literature of this period often characterized women as oppressed by society, as well as by the male influences in their lives. This era is especially interesting because it is a time in modern society when women were still treated as second class citizens. Two interesting short stories, Hills like White Elephants and The Yellow Wallpaper focus on a womans plight near the turn of the nineteenth century. Both authors, Hemmingway and Gilman, leave an open end to the stories and allow readers to create... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... While there, she is forbidden to write in her journal, as it indulges her imagination, which is not in accordance with her husband s wishes. Despite this, the narrator makes entries in the journal whenever she has the opportunity. Through these entries we learn of her obsession with the wallpaper in her bedroom. She is enthralled with it and studies the paper for hours. She thinks she sees a woman trapped behind the pattern in the paper. The story reaches its climax when her husband must force his way into the bedroom, only to find that his wife has pulled the paper off the wall and is crawling around the perimeter of the room. Hills Like White Elephants and The Yellow Wallpaper are both about couples dealing with a delicate situation in a time when the power of men over women is obvious. Flexible Organization A proper flexible organization provides its work force arrangements where employees are given greater freedom to balance their work and personal commitments such as family, higher education, community activities, religious commitments, professional development, and general interests. Above is Atkinson s model of a flexible firm. He argued that firms increasingly seek 4 kinds of flexibility functional, numerical, pay, distancing. Functional flexibility is a qualitative approach to work, and refers to management s ability to deploy and redeploy particular sections of the workforce on a wide range of tasks in response to market demand as and when required (Sparrow 1998 cited in Teicher Holland 2006 p. 241 242). To ensure that this ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Flexible work arrangements has its pros, unfortunately it does have its disadvantages as well. First of all, it is important that employers need to recognize that flexible work arrangements are not always appropriate for all people, jobs or industries. For example, if companies allow its service workers to arrive to work at different hours, customer service may suffer. Potential customers are forced to either wait or seek somewhere else. This also concerns manufacturers; many factory operations rely on employees to arrive at the same time, because they depend on each other for the smooth flowing of production. In its hard form it can also mean the intensification of work by redressing jobs to include a greater variety of low skilled tasks without any skill development (Teicher Holland 2006 p. 242) Critics also contend that flexible programs often leave managers in difficult situations. As Martha H. Peak wrote in Management Review (1994) Far too often, flex is embraced В… for its family friendly aspects long before the corporate support needed to manage it takes root. In these companies, flex policies are outlined in the employee manual but implementation is left up to individual managers. The government plays a major role in dystopic stories and novels, and as these stories start to unfold, one can see the flaws in which how government works and how if effects the rest of society. In the Minority Report, written by Philip K. Dick, the mechanisms of the government s systems begins to show different flaws when surveillance is use to determine the pre crimeof major crimes, and what happens to their citizens once a verdict is reached. Any type of Government surveillance can do more harm than good, due to the fact they invade the privacyof the people, in some cases resulting in giving innocent people unfair and unlawful punishments, and also because it can fail to protect and create an aspect of fear among their citizens. In The Minority Report, Philip K. Dick creates a government that can make an arrest with the assumption that their suspect is guilty, without taking into consideration that there was a minority report, which is the chance that their suspect is innocent. The people of this society had begun to see how this system is corrupt, and the coming to the point of how, If no arrests were made, there would still have been no crimes committed. As people see the chances of innocent citizens being arrested for no crime, they begin to think, how many murders would actually take place, and how many people would be falsely accused. That is why I cannot understand why it can be like pulling teeth to get people to come out and support a live local stand up comedy show. Is it really worth it to spend an exorbitant amount of money on a ticket to go watch a world famous comedian in an arena or a theater? I am not trying to say that those shows are not fun and that those comedians do not deserve to have us go watch them, they worked hard to get there. What I am saying is, that going to a comedy club setting is a much more enjoyable experience. Instead of spending an arm and a leg on a ticket. You can spend a fraction of the price and probably get friends to come along with you. It is so much better to sit at a table full of friends instead of in a row in a cramped chair next to strangers. With the money you saved, you and your friends can go out to eat before, and order more drinks at your table at the show. There is not much better than getting dressed up and going out and having a fun night with a group of loved ones. Many people are afraid of going into intimate settings for fear of being picked on by the comedians on stage. I am here to tell you, that the vast majority of comedians do not pick on the crowd. It is already hard enough to get a crowd there, why would they make them not feel comfortable. They do however, interact with the crowd making the show more inclusive. Something that you would not get at an arena or theater show, unless you buy front row tickets. As a Singaporean, I feel that the local government should not allow dual citizenship. Dual citizenship can be a wonderful thing, as one can enjoy the perks of being a citizen from all over the world. However, citizenship is something that should not be taken for granted. Singapore is a country bounded by many strict laws and fines. During times of war, which country, will one, defends? Which country has a higher priority? Odin mounted his eight legged steed, Sleipnir, and rode him to the underworld. When he reached the cold and misty underworld, he found the halls arrayed in splendor, as if some magnificent feast were about to occur. He soon found out that guest of honor for this festivity was to be none other than Baldur. Odin returned in sorrow to Asgard, the gods celestial stronghold, and told his fellow gods what he had been told. Frigg, wanting for any chance of saving her treasured son, went to every thing in the cosmos and obtained oaths to not harm Baldur. After these oaths were secured, the gods made a sport out of the situation. Most incredible of all, however, is his terrifying screen presence as he trudges slowly through a deserted corridor or along a dark street, head tilted slightly forward, face fixed in a confused, bewildered expression. Drew Barrymore is also superb as the liberal high school teacher rejected and scorned in a Conservative education system, while Patrick Swayze is excellent in his extended cameo, a smartly observed satire of a self help guru with a few skeletons in the closet. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The arrangement of cities is important to facilitate political control. In regards to the influence of politics towards a state, Rustow discusses the process to which democracy is developed. National unity is key, and is the foundation of the process (Rustow 1970: 350); Lacking national unity would mean that democracy would not be able to flourish, or even begin developing. By national unity, Rustow means that as a whole, a majority of citizens in a country not yet in a democracy, must agree on identification of their political status (Rustow 351). This would allow the transition to democracy to be more smoothly, and have minimal conflict since the majority of citizens would agree on their political identification for their country. Secondly, however, conflict is necessary, according to Rustow (Rustow 352). Conflict would eventually lead the opponents to end up with democracy, but Rustow still recognizes the possible failure of reaching democracy through conflict (Rustow 355). Conflict will force the parties involved to think of ways to secede from such turmoil, thus democracy could be a possible outcome. But, the possibility still exists that both parties will not reach a solution or that one party may win and lead the way towards a non democratic political system (Rustow 354). If the ... Cesal argues that the citizen architect should be concerned with their role within the community and how to better serve the people that comprise it. A true citizen architect is not driven by the financial gain of the projects themselves or the social status attributed to them. Instead the architect should re evaluate their role as a true servant of the public and implement that sense of purpose to drive their craft rather than just the desire for social status. Cesal desires for architects to go beyond their professional title and actively seek out ways to better their environment by bridging the gap between architects and their communities. He is asking architects to take responsibility in their communities and not merely pass the problems on to other public servants. There is a needfor architects and politics to coexist to on equal grounds within projects to ultimately decipher what is best for the communal area. Cesal argues that with these complications skyrocketing within the past years and consistently increasing, architects should have considered this an issue long ago. Although we cannot turn back the clock, we are able to control what happens today and the day that are to come. Born on June 17, 1987 to couple who moved from Chicago to Compton with only $500 to their names in order to escape the gang lifestyle, Lamar was exposed to guns, drugs, and violence at a young age. I m 6 years old, seein my uncles playing with shotguns, sellin dope in front of the apartment. Lamar witnessed his first murder outside his family s apartment when he was 5 years old a teenager gunned down while selling drugs. Although Lamar was never affiliated with a gang, his whereabouts did put him into a few tense situations with gang members; in the song Average Joe, Lamar recounts his experience being shot at by a group of Crips simply because of the neighborhood in which he lived. But instead of being caught up in the whirlpool of gang banging that takes the lives of so many young Compton residents before him, he used his experiences as motivation and fodder for exploding music career. As a kid living in one of the most violent cities in America, Lamar kept a low profile. He made good grades in school and generally kept to himself a habit he would soon be forced to overcome. One example being when Lamar knew the answer to a math problem during class, but he was too ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 42. Understanding Eating Disorders through a Biomedical Model... Can We Better Understand Eating Disorders, Namely Anorexia Nervosa, Through A Biomedical Model Or By Socio cultural Analysis? It s like I never knew what self respect was all about until now. The thinner I get, the better I feel...this has become the most important thing I ve ever done. (Ciseaux, 1980, p.1468) Incidences of Anorexia Nervosa have appeared to increase sharply in the USA, UK and western European countries since the beginning of the 60s (Gordon, 2001). The increasing prevalence of the disease has led the World Health Organisation to declare eating disorders a global priority area within adolescent mental health (Becker et al. 2011). Anorexia has in many ways become a modern epidemic (Gordon, 2000) and with a mortality rate of 10% per decade (Gorwood et al. 2003), the highest of any mental disorder (Bulik et al. 2006), it is an epidemic that social and biological scientists have been working tirelessly to understand. There are several bio medical definitions of anorexia; The NHS refers to an anorexic as someone who tries to keep their weight as low as possible, by restricting diet, often over exercising and in some cases through the use of laxatives and diuretics (NHS, 2014). The DSM V definition similarly suggests that anorexia is characterised by a refusal to maintain body weight at or above the minimally normal weight for age and height (DSM V, 2014). Both definitions highlight an intense fear of gaining weight and a hugely distorted perception ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 43. Schindler s List Of The Holocaust Essay Schindler s List was one of the first critically acclaimed Holocaust films in the United States. Director Steven Spielberg set out to make a historically accurate film about Oskar Schindler, portrayed by Liam Neeson, and his Jews. It has been over 20 years since the film s release and Schindler s List continues to reign supreme when it comes to Holocaust films. However, this is not to say that the film has not been without controversy specifically surrounding the film s historical accuracy. While often hailed for its accuracy, it would be inaccurate to imply the film is completely correct. Spielberg sacrifices historical accuracy numerous times for the sake of manipulating the audience and telling the Holocauststory that he believes should be told, a story that puts Schindler in the forefront while the Jewstake a backseat. The historical inaccuracies of the film led to the assumption that Schindler s List is less about the Jews and the Holocaust and more about Schindler, making the film to be more of a biopic. The portrayal of Jews in Schindler s List has been critiqued and remained problematic since the film was released in 1993. Per Spielberg, Schindler s List was supposed to be a Jewish film that was by Jews, about Jews, and for Jews to use against non Jews. However, the film often missed the mark to show this. The film, which focuses mostly on Schindler, makes the Jews out to be passive victims who willingly accepted their fate until Schindler arrives. For ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

In these ways, institutionalized heterosexuality is central to some of the key motivation(s) behind and design of public policy frameworks in the United States. By institutionalized heterosexuality I am referring to the set of ideas, institutions and relationships that make the heterosexual family the societal norm, while rendering homosexual/queer families abnormal or deviant (Ingraham 1999). My queer analysis of social welfare involves examining how sexuality and gender can be rethought and reorganized in economic and social policy frameworks, theories and practices. Throughout the article I examine how heterosexuality is assumed to be the natural basis for deп¬Ѓning the family, and by extension, society, both explicitly (by excluding LGBT people from the analysis and by stigmatizing certain individuals as non family or anti family ) and implicitly (by assuming that all people are heterosexual, that marriage is a given and exists only between a traditionally deп¬Ѓned man and woman, and that all people п¬Ѓt more or less into traditional gender roles; see Foucault 1978; Fraser and Gordon 1994; Ingraham 1999; Phelan 2001; ... • 45. Comprehensive School Counseling Program Evaluation Essay In order to provide a comprehensive school counseling program (CSCP) that meets the unique needs of Ocean Elementary School, the school counselor must understand the needs of the school. Therefore, conducting a needs assessment can help a new school counselor to evaluate the CSCP in order to plan, implement, and improve the effectiveness of the program (Astramovich Coker, 2007). Additionally, utilizing the accountability bridge counseling program evaluation model, a continuous evaluation cycle helps to improve services based on stakeholder feedback, the needs of those served, and outcomes (Astramovich Coker, 2007). Within this model, a needs assessment must be conducted in order to plan and develop services that address the needs of the students (Astramovich Coker, 2007). Thus, by utilizing assessment questionnaires, the school counselorcan gather information from the diverse population of students, parents, teachers, and administrator to determine how the CSCP can best support all students needs (American School Counselor Association [ASCA], 2012). Additionally, the use of other data, such as observations, standardized testscores, absentee rates, and student referrals can support the feedback received on the questionnaires. Based on the data, the school counselor can evaluate the school counseling program in order to improve the program in the domain areas of academic, social/emotional, and career development. Why should Huck Finn be taught in school and why is there so much controversy surrounding a novel. The decision to go to college depends on many reasons: earning a degree; increasing knowledge; or self development. Going to college gives a chance to the students to learn new things, meet new people, to deal effectively with new experiences and challenges which eventually help them in their personal growth and development.
