The Pros And Cons Of Operation Gunnerside
During the Second World War many countries were participating in different covert ops, but one of
those ops would change the whole war entirely. During the war the Nazis created a bomb program that
needed to be terminated and that s just what Operation Gunnerside did.
First off, In April 1939, Germany began a secret program called the Uranverein or Uranium Club. Led
by physicist Kurt Diebner, the Nazi program hired some of the top scientist in Germany, including
Nobel Prize winner Werner Heisenberg. Unlike their fellow American the Germans agreed to use
heavy water as a moderator rather than graphite.(Bascomb) For example, In a nuclear reactor, a
moderator is used to slow down the movement neutrons and control the fission process. In this way,
the moderator helps to keep a chain reaction. Following Germany s invasion of Norway in April 1940,
the Germans took control of Norsk Hydro Vemork plant just outside of Rjukan. Although the Vemork

Got word from Britain that six more Norwegians would be sent to Rjukan for Operation Gunnerside.
Unlike in Operation Freshman, the special forces group was a small group of Norwegian commandos.
Later, the group was supposed to parachute to their target zone rather than use a glider to land and
confer with the Swallow group before sabotaging the Vemork plant. Led by Joachim Rønneberg, the
group jumped from a plane during a light snowstorm at around midnight on February 16, 1943. the
commandos were all dressed in British uniforms underneath their snowsuits. they thought that if the
British were blamed for the sabotage instead of the Norwegian resistance, the natives would be less
likely to face German consequences.(Bascomb)
Meanwhile, the group survived the landing and avoided any German detection, they landed miles
from the planned target site. After traveling for about five days, the Gunnerside group connected with

The Increasing Significance of Multinational Company
The increasing significance of MNCs in 1950s transformed them to the dominant phenomenon in the
international economic relations since then. It has triggered a strong interest among the scholars,
media, and society. The surrounding controversy around MNCs has triggered the need and necessity
for the analysis due to the fact, that it is described by some scholars and economists as the principal
instrument for maximizing world welfare, and by others as the imperialistic agents (United Nations
Publication 1973, p.1). Non state actors are the international organizations that possess the diplomatic
power and corporate with the states in the global scene (Kegley and Wittkopf 2004). The question is
whether MNCs are such important non state actors and in which ways they exert power over the
states. First of all, one needs to comprehend the definition of a MNC. A MNC is a business
organization whose activities are located in more than two countries. This means that MNC consists of
a country where the business is incorporated, and of the branches, or subsidiaries in foreign countries.
MNCs can obviously vary in the extent of their multinational activities as regards to the number of
countries in which they operate. A large MNC can operate in hundreds of countries. The economic
reality demonstrates the ability of the company located in one country to control the operations in
foreign countries (Chandler and Mazlish 2005). According to Department of Economic and Social
Affairs of

Conceptualization Of Treatment For Erin
In this essay we plan to formulate the conceptualization of treatment for Erin, a client experiencing
Severe Depression. Erin, 32 year old woman, educated, bright, and independently referred herself to
the psychologist through the GP practice. She was previously employed as a GP part time though now
taking time off to raise her children.
Erin informed me that over a period of several months she had been feeling increasingly down, tired,
and hopelessness. She exhibited more than five of the DSM IV TR (American Psychiatric Association,
2000) criteria for Major Depressive Disorder, Recurrent, namely a depressed mood most of the day, a
diminished interest in pleasurable activities, loss of appetite, difficulties in initiating and maintaining
sleep, resting more often(often sleeping 7 hours on days off), a loss of energy and fatigue, feelings of
worthlessness and hopelessness. Other symptoms (i.e. anxiety attacks, inability to concentrate,
headaches, self judging, being hard for herself, irritability, impatient with family, withdrawing from
activities no longer gym attender) were also better accounted for by her depression rather then other
diagnosis. She reported occasional suicidal thoughts but did not think she would carry them out and
had no plan for doing so because of her kids.
Psychometrics test employed shows: Beck s Depression Inventory (BDI) score of 29 which indicate
severe depression. The diagnosis was confirmed with Hospital Anxiety Depression Scale where Erin

John Okada s No-No Boy
The United States of America a nation known for allowing freedom, equality, justice, and most of all a
chance for immigrants to attain the American dream. However, that America was hardly recognizable
during the 1940 s when President Franklin Roosevelt issued Executive Order 9066, ordering 120,000
Japanese Americans to be relocated to internment camps. As for the aftermath, little is known beyond
the historical documents and stories from those affected. Through John Okada s novel, No No Boy, a
closer picture of the aftermath of the internment is shown through the events of the protagonist, Ichiro.
It provides a more human perspective that is filled with emotions and connections that are unattainable
from an ordinary historical document. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
More importantly, it makes Ichiro loathe himself more because he feels as though being a No no boy
makes him incapable of being American since he is not deserving or capable of walking around
proudly like the veterans. Unlike the veterans, Ichiro finds himself unable to prove that he is American
which leaves him with his Japanese identity. However, it is that same Japanese identity that got him
interned, imprisoned, harassed, and in the position that he is in now. Above all, what is clearly visible
is that there is not only a separation within the nation but a separation within the entire Japanese
community. The differences in Ichiro s family contributed to his self hatred and seemingly lost
identity. To him, he was the emptiness between the one and the other and could see flashes of the truth
that was true for his parents and the truth that was true for his brother (Okada, 19). He did not want to
be Japanese because he did not know the language and was consumed with anger and hatred towards
his parents because even they weren t any less Japanese even after living in America for thirty five
years, thus utterly rejecting America (Okada, 19). In addition, his mother s defiance of the reality of
Japan s loss in the war and their inability to go back to Japan as she hoped for, as well as his father s
lack of control and courage only increases his desire to not be Japanese. However, Ichiro s

The Decolonization Process After The Second World War
29. The decolonization process after the Second World War resulted in the end of British hegemony in
the Indian Ocean. The subsequent Cold War which ensued was again marked by superpower rivalry in
the region, enhancing the region s global strategic value. When this period came to an end, the littoral
countries of the IOR to a certain extent rediscovered some of the economic, social and cultural facets
that made the ocean the bridge between Africa, Asia and Australia . However, regional cooperation
coordination is still a far reality which is a dire necessity for overall development in the region. In the
21st century the Indian Ocean security has evolved to be multifaceted and dynamic. The emerging
threats and challenges which are typically common to the entire region, range across a wide spectrum
with transnational maritime crimes such as piracy, illegal immigration, human trafficking, smuggling
and illegal unregulated and unreported (IUU) fishing activities at one end to the more serious
challenges of natural disasters, climate change and even interstate maritime disputes erupting into
fully fledged confrontations at the other end . The word Maritime Security deals with the prevention of
illicit activities in the maritime domain . In the previous chapter we have been acquainted with the
geostrategic and economic importance of the region which has resulted in the shift of world s interest
to this part of the maritime province.

Cardiomyopathy Case Study
Cardiac abnormalities are often detected during physical examination of hyperthyroid
cats1
. These abnormalities are diverse and can appear as subtle, clinically inconsequential
myocardial changes but also as severe changes which could be associated with the development
of heart failure leading to death. Often times, it is difficult to determine whether cardiac
abnormalities that persist after the treatment and resolution of hyperthyroidism are the result of
the hyperthyroidism or a primary cardiac disease1
.
The most common form of primary myocardial disease in cats is hypertrophic
cardiomyopathy (HCM), which is the hypertrophy of a nondilated ventricle that occurs when

the heart may result in echocardiographic changes which are indistinguishable from one another,
and therefore echocardiogram is not always a useful tool in differentiating between primary and
secondary cardiomyopathy.
This paper evaluated plasma concentrations of two cardiac biomarkers; N terminal
probrain natriuretic peptide (NT proBNP) and cardiac troponin I (cTNI). NT proBNP is secreted
in response to myocardial stretch, and cTNI is released from the cytosol of damaged
cardiomyocytes2
. These biomarkers were evaluated in the plasma to identify if a possible
correlation between plasma concentrations of the biomarkers and cardiomyopathies existed.
Previous studies in hyperthyroid humans have shown that increased plasma concentrations of
NT proBNP and T4, which stimulates BPN release from cardiomyocytes, indicating a change in
the heart due to hyperthyroidism3

Alcopops Tax
Question 1
Some economists argue that one of the key political motivations for the introduction of the alcopops
tax is to correct for the negative externalities which abusers of alcopops impose on society. Using
diagram(s) discuss how a tax on alcopops can correct for negative externalities associated with
excessive consumption of alcopops.
In a publication by University of Southern Queensland (2008), it defines that excise taxes are taxes
imposed on sellers of certain goods and services, and they are usually substantially higher tan sales tax
on regular goods . Moreover, tax incidence is the share of a tax ultimately paid by consumers or by
buyers (Layton, Robinson amp; Tucker 2005). It depends on both elasticities of demand and ... Show

Attitude And Death Of Ancient Greece
Attitude to Death.
Greek
Background: Ancient Greece was a civilization that existed from the 8th 6th Century BC, also called
the Archaic Period, to the end of antiquity, around 600 AD. It is most famous for its philosophers,
artwork and mythology. They worshiped their deities such as Zeus, Hades and Poseidon.... Their
major demise came at the hands of the Macedonians in 338 BC after Greece had been weakened by
the Peloponnesian War. A war between the Spartans and the Athenians leaving the Spartans victorious
but exhausted of their resources and men.
Attitude to Dying: Death for the Greeks was not such a simple process. Seeing as they believed so
firmly in the afterlife death was not really feared, rather life was cherished. As shown by this quote.
I d rather be a day laborer on earth working for a man of little property than lord of all the hosts of the
dead. Achilles in the Iliad.
Upon death the psyche or soul left the body as a little breath or puff of wind. The body would then
undergo a time honored burial ritual. The ritual was split into two parts. The prothesis, the laying out
of the body. The ekphora, the funeral procession. And the interment of the body or cremated remains
of the deceased. During this process the ancient Greeks placed coins in the deceased s mouth and tied
a strap around the head and jaw to keep it closed. These coins served as the toll for the ferry across the
river Styx. During this time, people viewed the body and placed flowers or other

A Public Service Announcement From The American Heart...
The artifact I selected is a public service announcement from the American Heart Association. The
American Heart Association has produced various health issue ads and campaigns geared towards
educating individuals on health risks, symptoms, prevention and facts about heart related conditions.
In the beginning of this video, NBA player Paul George is seen playing basketball on a court by
himself reflecting on how his mother s stroke was devastating and sudden. Paul George then stresses
the importance of knowing the signs of a stroke. This is known as the acronym F.A.S.T., Face
drooping, arm weakness, speech difficulty and time to call 9 1 1. He desires to make sure that every
person is knowledgeable of these signs so they will be prepared to act fast and possibly save someone
s life. I came across this video while looking up information about heart related issues caused by high
blood pressure. The message delivered in this video has become a reality for many in our nation. From
this video, we learn that early detection is critical in increasing the stroke survival rate.
The health issue that this artifact discusses is the significance of knowing and recognizing the warning
signs of a stroke. The American Heart Association has made it their mission to provide unlimited
health information and research in the hopes of eliminating cardiovascular diseases as well as helping
society in maintaining a healthy lifestyle. Stroke is the number 5 cause of death and a leading cause of

this problem can be avoided by remaining current with management literature from the field, ensure
that the concepts are applied based on science rather than advocacy. The First 90 Days: Proven
Strategies for Getting Up to Speed Faster and Smarter by Michael D. Watkins is a remarkable book

reading this book, because it made me think of all the times when I faced these problems and did not
understand why or what went wrong in many situations by reading the book it changed the way I think

My Doctor Found Polyps, Now What?
Doctors recommend having regular colonoscopy screenings beginning at age 50, because being over
that age is the greatest single risk factor for developing colon polyps. In fact, the American Society for
Gastrointestinal Endoscopy (http://www.asge.org/patients/patients.aspx?id=396) estimates that one out
of every four seniors has at least one polyp. And that excludes those who have other risk factors for
developing colon cancer or other growths. This means about 25 percent ... Show more content on

During these lab tests, specially trained technicians will be able to determine if they contain cancer,
have a potential to develop into malignant masses or if their characteristics indicate other polyps may
form in the same area in the future.
A polypectomy is considered a routine part of a colonoscopy, and does not typically complicate the
outpatient screening. While very rare, there are a few possible complications that can occur as a result
of having a polyp removed. These are usually minor, and can often be corrected during the
colonoscopy. They include bleeding from the site where the polyp was removed, and the possibility of
perforating the colon. Although a colonoscopy can identify about 95 percent of all polyps
(http://www.medicinenet.com/colon_polyps/page4.htm#how_are_colon_polyps_diagnosed), some
polyps may be too large or dangerous to remove during the screening. In some cases, the growths will
be biopsied to determine if they could be cancerous. Treatment of non cancerous polyps may include
endoscopic removal spread over several colonoscopies. Cancerous, precancerous or symptomatic
polyps may require surgical

Cheddar Cheetos
All Natural White Cheddar Cheetos, which are labeled as a non GMO food, was tested for the
presence of genetically modified organisms. DNA was extracted, amplified by PCR and was subjected
to electrophoresis to prove the absence of a genetically modified organism in the non GMO Cheetos.
Using DNA molecules from samples of interest is the favored method in GMO detection because
DNA is easily recognizable and very stable (Gaudio, 2009). The gel electrophoresis picture shows the
different sizes of the DNA fragments from the Cheetos. As pictured in figure one, there was a band for
the sample containing the plant primers in lane eight for the photosystem II gene which served as a
target area to ensure that the DNA extraction occurred (Smith, 2015). In lane nine was the test food
with GMO primers, which did not show a band. This means that the Cheetos lacked a GMO gene and
there was no presence of the CaMV promoter and the Nos promoter in the sample food. This
concludes that the Cheetos do not contain a GMO, like the packaging indicates. Lanes ten and eleven
shows fragments because they were positive controls and were expected to show up with a molecular
weight of 500 bp and 200 bp, respectively. The target DNA to detect the GMO was at the CaMV and
Nos promoter, which are both present in the GMO positive controls. The negative controls can also be

A possibility of not getting a fragment under the test food with plant primers slot could be due to the
fact of not extracting enough DNA from the sample food. Another reason for any missing fragments
could be that the DNA ran off the gel, or that cross contamination occurred with improper labeling of
PCR tubes. These errors could be avoided by easily using the right sanitation methods, following the
protocol and ensuring the slurry mix contained a good ratio of sample food to

High School Is The Best Time Of My Life
My time throughout high school was the best time of my life, I wished I would have realized sooner
how terrible of a student I was. I look back and think how much harder I could have tried, things I

fact I was terrible at it. I am the biggest procrastinator, the phrase, due tomorrow, do tomorrow I know

moments I can remember was an afternoon in my English class. I sat right beside of my best friend
Emily, sometimes I wonder how she done it, how she put up with me and my shenanigans. There wasn
t a time I wasn t asking her for answers to a test, or an assignment, or just talking while distracting her
at the same time. This one day in particular I was really out of it, my teacher was instructing and here I
am just completing disregarding what she was saying. It was after

It Is Stated That General Leonard Wood Never Kept Quiet
It is stated that General Leonard Wood never kept quiet in any job that he ever held during his thirty
five years of active federal service in the United States Army. When there was work to do, he has done
it, from chasing Indians all over our great Southwest back in the eighties and over a good slice of
Mexico s northwest, to teaching Cuba how to rule herself. (Sears, 1919) He was not known for sitting
back and just earning his paycheck . Instead, he chose the more challenging jobs like building new
training camps for officers and teaching preparedness to the soldiers of the late war. Through his work
ethics, candid leadership, and attitude for the betterment of mankind, he greatly impacted the lives of
millions of men throughout the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It was as Chief of Staff that General Wood made his greatest contributions to the Army and the Nation.
He strengthened the General Staff and firmly established the Chief of Staff as the senior officer of the
Army. He also reduced the influence of the old bureau system which had hindered military reforms.
He was instrumental in developing the Maneuver Division and the Mobile Army concept. As a result,
the Army formed its first truly combined arms divisions. This allowed the American Army to fight as a
force in the battles and campaigns of the Great War, WWI. (Homle, 1920) Following the war, General
Wood was chosen to be a candidate for the Republican Party for President. Although he was not
chosen, he did not get discouraged. He would retire from the Army in 1921 and receive the position of
Governor General of the Philippines. Leonard would hold that position until his death on August 7th,
1927 of an unsuccessful brain tumor surgery. Valor His gallantry and service as a medical and line
officer at the Battle of Geronimo was recognized by a Medal of Honor in 1898. Voluntarily carried
dispatches through a region infested with hostile Indians, making a journey of 70 miles in one night
and walking 30 miles the next day. Also for several weeks, while in close pursuit of Geronimo s band

Essay On Laser Therapy
Let There Be Light On Her Painful Site: Laser Therapy Offers Safer Treatment for Your Cat s
Osteoarthritis
It can be upsetting to see your cat, who was once so agile and active, curtailing her activities that used
to give her so much joy. Just like their human friends, cats commonly develop osteoarthritis, also
known as degenerative joint disease, as they age. This causes pain and stiffness that can really cramp
her style when it comes to mobility. Traditional pain management drugs are hazardous to your kitty s
health, leaving veterinarians with few options. Laser therapy may be just what the doctor ordered as a
safer treatment choice for reducing her discomfort.
With Age Comes Achy, Creaky Joints

A safer treatment protocol for your arthritic cat includes the addition of a joint supplement to her diet
to nourish her joints, combined with cold laser therapy to relieve her pain.
Shining the Light On Laser Therapy
Laser therapy is not a new form of treatment. It has been used for years outside of the United States,
and has provided therapy to Olympic athletes and military personnel. In 2005, the Food and Drug
Administration approved the use of Class IV laser therapy, or cold laser therapy, in the Unites States,
and its use has been embraced by the human medical and veterinary industries. To clarify, a heat laser,
also known as a cutting laser, is used in surgical procedures to cut through tissue. Conversely, a cold
laser emits very a low heat level that penetrates through tissue without cutting. Once the cold laser
light beam enters the tissue, cells respond by emitting a series of chemical reactions called
photobiostimulation, which releases endorphins and promotes healing at a cellular level.
Osteoarthritis and A Whole Lot More
When treating osteoarthritis, cold laser therapy is utilized to accomplish three things in your cat s
body. The common goal of these three things is to relive pain. These three things include the
following:
Reduce inflammation, which occurs through vasodilation
Block pain signal transmission to the brain, which occurs through the stimulation of nerve cells

Japanese American Paranoia
In the early 1940 s and as the war progressed, the treatment and perception of Japanese Americans,
most of the western parts, like California, got progressively worse. The prejudice against the Japanese
steamed from the treatment of the Chinese in America and how they provided cheap labor for the
United States, cheating regular Americans out of their jobs. Once the Japanese started to have a
significant demographic in California, concern swept across Americans once again, fearing cheap
labor and lack of jobs once more. As tensions grew, the American paranoia of a Japanese
invasion/revolt also increased. Once the American government decided that they would relocate all of
the Japanese Americans to a safer sight, to prevent any spies from ... Show more content on

It took over a decade for the American Congress to show approval for every surviving person from the
camp to receive $20,000 in compensation. Although they did receive some form of an apology, it was

internment camp, John Tateishi stated in an interview that he was humiliated when he came back from
the camps. We came out of these camps with a sense of shame and guilt, of having been considered

Martin Luther, And His Concept Of Christianity
This is an essay about Martin Luther, and his concept of Christianity. As a student and a unbiased
Christian, I enjoy studying all types of religions, and elements that encompass them. Luther began his
religious career as an Augustinian Monk in the Roman Catholic Church. So, Luther was initially loyal
to the papacy, and even after many theological conflicts, he attempted to bring about his understanding
with the Church. But this was a contradiction not to suffer because in his later years, Luther waged a
continual battle with the papacy. Luther was to become a professor of biblical exegesis at Wittenberg
where, in 1957, he posted his critique of the Roman Catholic Church s teachings and practices. This is
otherwise known as The Ninety Five Theses, which is usually considered to be the original document
of the Reformation. The Reformation was very controversial then, and, from a historical viewpoint, it
still is today. Luther played a large part in the movement, and I was interested I doing a research to
uncover what was the issue with religion. Basically, this document was an indictment of the venality
of the Roman Catholic Church, particularly the widespread practice of selling indulgences in
association with the sacrament of penance. Luther s beliefs on the matter were that after confession,
absolution relied upon the sinner s faith and God s Divine Grace rather than the intervention of a
priest. Martin Luther was a man that made a huge impact not only on those in

Frida Kahlo Accomplishments
Frida Kahlo was one of the most fascinating visual artists of the nineteenth century. Her art and life
were filled with pain that was both emotional and physical which she expressed through her paintings.
Frida was her art. Frida did not conform to most cultural norms or gender roles in her life time, she
was a free spirit trapped in an invalid body. While she did not assume very much acclaim during her
lifetime she did manage to be very well traveled even though she was born and died in the same home.
She eventually developed a cult like following in the nineteen eighties and nineties. She has become a
poster girl for modern feminism and a political force of her own time, through all of her physical pain

Frida was not only talented but she was also very intelligent. In 1922 she was one of only thirty five
female students to attend the most prestigious preparatory school in Mexico, Escuela Nacional
Preparatoria or The National Preparatory School. While Frida read in three different languages and
aspired to be a doctor she was a spirited and rambunctious student who ran with a gang of
troublesome boys who called themselves Los Cachuchas . The gang pulled pranks and got into all
sorts of trouble, at one point she and her friends even lead a donkey into one of the rooms while class
was in session. (Kettenman p. 11 12). It was at this school where Frida first met her future husband
and life long companion, Diego Rivera.
Diego Riviera was working on a piece at Escuela Nacional Preparatoria, where Frida was attending.
He was commissioned by the government to work on a mural depicting Mexican culture and pride.
Diego was a member of The Revolutionary Syndicate of Technical Workers, Painters and Sculptors.
The organization, as the name implies was made up of technical workers, painters, and sculptors, the
intention of the organization was to revitalize Mexican nationalism through the arts by displaying an

Recycle Bin
 A short note on Recycle bin.
Recycle bin is an icon on the Windows desktop that represents a directory where deleted files are
temporarily stored. This enables you to retrieve files that you may have accidentally deleted. From
time to time, you ll want to purge the recycle bin to free up space on your hard disk. You can also
configure Windows so that it doesn t use the recycle bin at all, but then you won t be able to retrieve
accidentally deleted files.
Items in the Recycle Bin remain there until you decide to permanently delete them from your
computer. These items still take up hard disk space and can be undeleted or restored back to their
original location. When it fills up, Windows automatically cleans out enough space in the ... Show

The Recycle Bin can be accessed via the desktop (In fact it is the only icon shown by default on the
Windows XP desktop) or Windows Explorer. The Recycle Bin, when accessed from the desktop, has
different options and information than what Windows Explorer normally would have as seen from the
physical location. In an NTFS environment, users cannot see deleted files in the Recycle Bin of other
user.
Files in the Recycle Bin are stored in its physical location and renamed as D.. A hidden file called
info2 (info in Windows 95) stores the files original paths and names. When the user views the Recycle
Bin, the files are displayed with their original names. When the file is Restored from the Recycle Bin,
it is returned to its original directory and name.
When the file is deleted by emptying the Recycle Bin, the space on the disk used by the file is
designated as free without any changes being made to the file data itself. Future files will overwrite
the data when they are saved on the disk. In other words, the data is not erased, but the address
marking the data s existence is.
Deleting files
In Windows Explorer, files are moved to the Recycle Bin in a number of ways:
By right clicking on a file and selecting delete from the menu
Selecting the file and pressing the delete key

An Article From The New York Times
This analysis is about an article from The New York Times How Do We Get More People to Have
Good Lives? by Thomas B. Edsall. Edsall is an American journalist and academic. In his article,
Edsall argues that in order to make the future young poor get out of poverty, America needs to treat
both private and public sectors in early childhood programs equally. To start his article, Edsall
mentions the Obama administration s big investment in education to promote math, reading, and
science skills for the school children. According to the National Center for Education Statistics, from
2007 to 2013, the reading scores of fourth graders have increased 0.45 percent, and the math scores
from them too have grown 0.83 percent. The attempt of trying to raise test scores from the government
shows that both cognitive and character skills place a significant part in life opportunities as well as
weapons in the contest for economic and social status. Edsall moves on with an example from the
book Persistence, Privilege, and Parenting. The book discusses that children with better background
can achieve more in life and are more likely to raise their own children better than others. For general
knowledge, cognitive skills come from a shift in knowledge based economy due to the decline in
manufacturing employment, the growth of the technology and financial sectors, and labor recruitment
from a global talent pool. Edsall makes a comment on this problem of education reform that it is too

Is Realism an Obsolete Theory, or Is It More Relevant Than...
Realism, as a way of interpreting international relations has often been conceived to be closely tied to
the Cold War. Realism, rooted in the experience of World War II and the Cold War, is said to be
undergoing a crisis of confidence largely because the lessons adduced do not convincingly apply
directly to the new realities of international relations in the twenty first century (Clinton 2007:1)
Worse still, if policymakers steadfastly adhere to realist precepts, they will have to navigate the
unchartered seas of the post Cold War disorder with a Cold War cartography, and blind devotion to
realism could compromise their ability to prescribe paths to a more orderly and just system. (Kegley
1993:141). This paper will demonstrate that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
And with this, comes the realist concept of national interest. Realist ideology, statism, specifically,
suggests that survival and sovereignty of the state is its primary goals, and the very condition of its
existence. With this said, states do have the ability to take care of other actors interests and needs in
the international community out of something that could be called a moral responsibility , but only if it
somehow serves its own national interests in the process. Morgenthau (1949) explains that state actors
who pursue certain national interests and act aggressively resort to liberal sentiment, as a convenient
means of justifying their behaviour in the eyes of both the international community, and their own
people. This is not to say however, that some states are sincere in certain good hearted pursuits. But it
is indeed true that moral principles prove to be serviceable to national interest (Morgenthau
1949:207). Machiavelli goes so far as to claim that morality is the product of power (Carr 2001:63).
Take for example the nineteenth century, in which the British Empire was the global hegemon at the
time. As a reason to explain imperialism and its colonial aspirations, they advertised the theory of the
White Man s Burden as a moral and social norm, in which

The Examination of the Residential School System in...
Education is an essential aspect in our ever changing societies. It is used as a means of transmitting
concepts, knowledge, and values, often to younger generations (Ravelli Webber, 2010). Education and
schooling differ in all societies, varying based on the methods of teaching of different cultural groups.
For instance, Canadian Aboriginal people were taught based on the needs of their individual families
and class. This greatly differed from the European system of education, which stressed adequate
involvement with all of society. Though the Aboriginal manner of education was efficient and
effective, the Europeans wanted to bring a change to their previous practices. As seen in the film,

As many Aboriginals stood in the way of European economic expansion, Europeans forced the
younger generation of Aboriginals to residential schools. This justified and assisted in their need to
revolutionize former Aboriginal beliefs. More specifically, the correspondence principle identifies the
changes Aboriginal children had to make in school in order to reflect that of the normal workplace.
For instance, certain ideologies were enforced by residential schools. Aboriginal children were
punished if they spoke in their native tongue, as this rule was reflected and followed in the workplace.
With these regulations in place, the Aboriginal culture was on the verge of destruction, as it was nearly
impossible for any future Aboriginal generations to receive proper knowledge on their native culture.
More generally, conflict theory is based on social inequality, and it explains how the powerful promote
their own interests at the expense of the weak (Ravelli Webber, 2010). Residential schools signify this
notion, as the Aboriginals were mistreated and abused by the more powerful, prominent religious
figures in the school. Overall, the conflict theory best describes the residential school system, and it
correctly identifies how the Aboriginal culture was destroyed as a result. The residential school system
can also be examined using

Sculptures at Crosby Beach
Whilst visiting Crosby beach in October 2013 there was evidence of the public altering the statues
appearance. Somebody had knitted around the ankle of one, and also placed a hard hat on the head.
The statues being placed at Crosby beach had created a large tourist attraction and we see how the
public introduce their own enjoyment to the art.
With the sculptures being constantly moved to different locations, they were granted permission to be
permanently positioned at Crosby beach in 2005, despite some objections. Certain people believed
that the figures were offensive and pornographic due to them being naked with genitalia on show.
They also believed that they were a safety hazard due to it being difficult to differ between a human
and a sculpture in low lighting. Also, reaching the figures close to the sea was shown as a hazard due
to the sinking mud; a problem which I had encountered myself! The sculptures being made out of Cast
iron is also relevant to them being positioned in Crosby beach. The cast iron links to the Liverpool s
industrial origin as a major port. The figures stand watching as many ships pass each day, as they are
reaching their new destination. The sculptures are possibly standing, waiting to travel to Another
place. This point is strengthened by the fact that some of the sculptures are half buried in the sand,
giving the impression of the statues walking into the sea.
The images above allow us to see the effects that the environment have on the

  • 2. The Pros And Cons Of Operation Gunnerside During the Second World War many countries were participating in different covert ops, but one of those ops would change the whole war entirely. During the war the Nazis created a bomb program that needed to be terminated and that s just what Operation Gunnerside did. First off, In April 1939, Germany began a secret program called the Uranverein or Uranium Club. Led by physicist Kurt Diebner, the Nazi program hired some of the top scientist in Germany, including Nobel Prize winner Werner Heisenberg. Unlike their fellow American the Germans agreed to use heavy water as a moderator rather than graphite.(Bascomb) For example, In a nuclear reactor, a moderator is used to slow down the movement neutrons and control the fission process. In this way, the moderator helps to keep a chain reaction. Following Germany s invasion of Norway in April 1940, the Germans took control of Norsk Hydro Vemork plant just outside of Rjukan. Led by Joachim Rønneberg, the group jumped from a plane during a light snowstorm at around midnight on February 16, 1943. the commandos were all dressed in British uniforms underneath their snowsuits. they thought that if the British were blamed for the sabotage instead of the Norwegian resistance, the natives would be less likely to face German consequences.(Bascomb) Meanwhile, the group survived the landing and avoided any German detection, they landed miles from the planned target site. • 3. The Increasing Significance of Multinational Company The increasing significance of MNCs in 1950s transformed them to the dominant phenomenon in the international economic relations since then. It has triggered a strong interest among the scholars, media, and society. The surrounding controversy around MNCs has triggered the need and necessity for the analysis due to the fact, that it is described by some scholars and economists as the principal instrument for maximizing world welfare, and by others as the imperialistic agents (United Nations Publication 1973, p.1). Non state actors are the international organizations that possess the diplomatic power and corporate with the states in the global scene (Kegley and Wittkopf 2004). The question is whether MNCs are such important non state actors and in which ways they exert power over the states. First of all, one needs to comprehend the definition of a MNC. A MNC is a business organization whose activities are located in more than two countries. This means that MNC consists of a country where the business is incorporated, and of the branches, or subsidiaries in foreign countries. MNCs can obviously vary in the extent of their multinational activities as regards to the number of countries in which they operate. A large MNC can operate in hundreds of countries. The economic reality demonstrates the ability of the company located in one country to control the operations in foreign countries (Chandler and Mazlish 2005). • 4. Conceptualization Of Treatment For Erin In this essay we plan to formulate the conceptualization of treatment for Erin, a client experiencing Severe Depression. Erin, 32 year old woman, educated, bright, and independently referred herself to the psychologist through the GP practice. She was previously employed as a GP part time though now taking time off to raise her children. Erin informed me that over a period of several months she had been feeling increasingly down, tired, and hopelessness. She exhibited more than five of the DSM IV TR (American Psychiatric Association, 2000) criteria for Major Depressive Disorder, Recurrent, namely a depressed mood most of the day, a diminished interest in pleasurable activities, loss of appetite, difficulties in initiating and maintaining sleep, resting more often(often sleeping 7 hours on days off), a loss of energy and fatigue, feelings of worthlessness and hopelessness. Other symptoms (i.e. anxiety attacks, inability to concentrate, headaches, self judging, being hard for herself, irritability, impatient with family, withdrawing from activities no longer gym attender) were also better accounted for by her depression rather then other diagnosis. She reported occasional suicidal thoughts but did not think she would carry them out and had no plan for doing so because of her kids. Psychometrics test employed shows: Beck s Depression Inventory (BDI) score of 29 which indicate severe depression. The diagnosis was confirmed with Hospital Anxiety Depression Scale where Erin ... • 6. John Okada s No-No Boy The United States of America a nation known for allowing freedom, equality, justice, and most of all a chance for immigrants to attain the American dream. However, that America was hardly recognizable during the 1940 s when President Franklin Roosevelt issued Executive Order 9066, ordering 120,000 Japanese Americans to be relocated to internment camps. As for the aftermath, little is known beyond the historical documents and stories from those affected. Through John Okada s novel, No No Boy, a closer picture of the aftermath of the internment is shown through the events of the protagonist, Ichiro. It provides a more human perspective that is filled with emotions and connections that are unattainable from an ordinary historical document. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... More importantly, it makes Ichiro loathe himself more because he feels as though being a No no boy makes him incapable of being American since he is not deserving or capable of walking around proudly like the veterans. Unlike the veterans, Ichiro finds himself unable to prove that he is American which leaves him with his Japanese identity. However, it is that same Japanese identity that got him interned, imprisoned, harassed, and in the position that he is in now. Above all, what is clearly visible is that there is not only a separation within the nation but a separation within the entire Japanese community. The differences in Ichiro s family contributed to his self hatred and seemingly lost identity. To him, he was the emptiness between the one and the other and could see flashes of the truth that was true for his parents and the truth that was true for his brother (Okada, 19). He did not want to be Japanese because he did not know the language and was consumed with anger and hatred towards his parents because even they weren t any less Japanese even after living in America for thirty five years, thus utterly rejecting America (Okada, 19). In addition, his mother s defiance of the reality of Japan s loss in the war and their inability to go back to Japan as she hoped for, as well as his father s lack of control and courage only increases his desire to not be Japanese. • 8. The Decolonization Process After The Second World War 29. The decolonization process after the Second World War resulted in the end of British hegemony in the Indian Ocean. The subsequent Cold War which ensued was again marked by superpower rivalry in the region, enhancing the region s global strategic value. When this period came to an end, the littoral countries of the IOR to a certain extent rediscovered some of the economic, social and cultural facets that made the ocean the bridge between Africa, Asia and Australia . However, regional cooperation coordination is still a far reality which is a dire necessity for overall development in the region. In the 21st century the Indian Ocean security has evolved to be multifaceted and dynamic. The emerging threats and challenges which are typically common to the entire region, range across a wide spectrum with transnational maritime crimes such as piracy, illegal immigration, human trafficking, smuggling and illegal unregulated and unreported (IUU) fishing activities at one end to the more serious challenges of natural disasters, climate change and even interstate maritime disputes erupting into fully fledged confrontations at the other end . The word Maritime Security deals with the prevention of illicit activities in the maritime domain . In the previous chapter we have been acquainted with the geostrategic and economic importance of the region which has resulted in the shift of world s interest to this part of the maritime province. 30. These abnormalities are diverse and can appear as subtle, clinically inconsequential myocardial changes but also as severe changes which could be associated with the development of heart failure leading to death. Often times, it is difficult to determine whether cardiac abnormalities that persist after the treatment and resolution of hyperthyroidism are the result of the hyperthyroidism or a primary cardiac disease1 . In a publication by University of Southern Queensland (2008), it defines that excise taxes are taxes imposed on sellers of certain goods and services, and they are usually substantially higher tan sales tax on regular goods . • 15. Attitude And Death Of Ancient Greece Attitude to Death. Greek Background: Ancient Greece was a civilization that existed from the 8th 6th Century BC, also called the Archaic Period, to the end of antiquity, around 600 AD. It is most famous for its philosophers, artwork and mythology. They worshiped their deities such as Zeus, Hades and Poseidon.... Their major demise came at the hands of the Macedonians in 338 BC after Greece had been weakened by the Peloponnesian War. A war between the Spartans and the Athenians leaving the Spartans victorious but exhausted of their resources and men. Attitude to Dying: Death for the Greeks was not such a simple process. Seeing as they believed so firmly in the afterlife death was not really feared, rather life was cherished. As shown by this quote. I d rather be a day laborer on earth working for a man of little property than lord of all the hosts of the dead. Achilles in the Iliad. Upon death the psyche or soul left the body as a little breath or puff of wind. The body would then undergo a time honored burial ritual. The ritual was split into two parts. The prothesis, the laying out of the body. The ekphora, the funeral procession. And the interment of the body or cremated remains of the deceased. During this process the ancient Greeks placed coins in the deceased s mouth and tied a strap around the head and jaw to keep it closed. These coins served as the toll for the ferry across the river Styx. During this time, people viewed the body and placed flowers or other ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Paul George then stresses the importance of knowing the signs of a stroke. This is known as the acronym F.A.S.T., Face drooping, arm weakness, speech difficulty and time to call 9 1 1. He desires to make sure that every person is knowledgeable of these signs so they will be prepared to act fast and possibly save someone s life. I came across this video while looking up information about heart related issues caused by high blood pressure. The message delivered in this video has become a reality for many in our nation. From this video, we learn that early detection is critical in increasing the stroke survival rate. The health issue that this artifact discusses is the significance of knowing and recognizing the warning signs of a stroke. Doctors recommend having regular colonoscopy screenings beginning at age 50, because being over that age is the greatest single risk factor for developing colon polyps. In fact, the American Society for Gastrointestinal Endoscopy (http://www.asge.org/patients/patients.aspx?id=396) estimates that one out of every four seniors has at least one polyp. While very rare, there are a few possible complications that can occur as a result of having a polyp removed. These are usually minor, and can often be corrected during the colonoscopy. They include bleeding from the site where the polyp was removed, and the possibility of perforating the colon. Although a colonoscopy can identify about 95 percent of all polyps (http://www.medicinenet.com/colon_polyps/page4.htm#how_are_colon_polyps_diagnosed), some polyps may be too large or dangerous to remove during the screening. DNA was extracted, amplified by PCR and was subjected to electrophoresis to prove the absence of a genetically modified organism in the non GMO Cheetos. Using DNA molecules from samples of interest is the favored method in GMO detection because DNA is easily recognizable and very stable (Gaudio, 2009). The gel electrophoresis picture shows the different sizes of the DNA fragments from the Cheetos. As pictured in figure one, there was a band for the sample containing the plant primers in lane eight for the photosystem II gene which served as a target area to ensure that the DNA extraction occurred (Smith, 2015). In lane nine was the test food with GMO primers, which did not show a band. This means that the Cheetos lacked a GMO gene and there was no presence of the CaMV promoter and the Nos promoter in the sample food. This concludes that the Cheetos do not contain a GMO, like the packaging indicates. Lanes ten and eleven shows fragments because they were positive controls and were expected to show up with a molecular weight of 500 bp and 200 bp, respectively. The target DNA to detect the GMO was at the CaMV and Nos promoter, which are both present in the GMO positive controls. The negative controls can also be seen ... In 2005, the Food and Drug Administration approved the use of Class IV laser therapy, or cold laser therapy, in the Unites States, and its use has been embraced by the human medical and veterinary industries. To clarify, a heat laser, also known as a cutting laser, is used in surgical procedures to cut through tissue. Conversely, a cold laser emits very a low heat level that penetrates through tissue without cutting. Once the cold laser light beam enters the tissue, cells respond by emitting a series of chemical reactions called photobiostimulation, which releases endorphins and promotes healing at a cellular level. • 30. Martin Luther, And His Concept Of Christianity This is an essay about Martin Luther, and his concept of Christianity. As a student and a unbiased Christian, I enjoy studying all types of religions, and elements that encompass them. Luther began his religious career as an Augustinian Monk in the Roman Catholic Church. So, Luther was initially loyal to the papacy, and even after many theological conflicts, he attempted to bring about his understanding with the Church. But this was a contradiction not to suffer because in his later years, Luther waged a continual battle with the papacy. Luther was to become a professor of biblical exegesis at Wittenberg where, in 1957, he posted his critique of the Roman Catholic Church s teachings and practices. This is otherwise known as The Ninety Five Theses, which is usually considered to be the original document of the Reformation. The Reformation was very controversial then, and, from a historical viewpoint, it still is today. Luther played a large part in the movement, and I was interested I doing a research to uncover what was the issue with religion. Basically, this document was an indictment of the venality of the Roman Catholic Church, particularly the widespread practice of selling indulgences in association with the sacrament of penance. Luther s beliefs on the matter were that after confession, absolution relied upon the sinner s faith and God s Divine Grace rather than the intervention of a priest. • 33. An Article From The New York Times This analysis is about an article from The New York Times How Do We Get More People to Have Good Lives? by Thomas B. Edsall. Edsall is an American journalist and academic. In his article, Edsall argues that in order to make the future young poor get out of poverty, America needs to treat both private and public sectors in early childhood programs equally. To start his article, Edsall mentions the Obama administration s big investment in education to promote math, reading, and science skills for the school children. According to the National Center for Education Statistics, from 2007 to 2013, the reading scores of fourth graders have increased 0.45 percent, and the math scores from them too have grown 0.83 percent. The attempt of trying to raise test scores from the government shows that both cognitive and character skills place a significant part in life opportunities as well as weapons in the contest for economic and social status. Edsall moves on with an example from the book Persistence, Privilege, and Parenting. The book discusses that children with better background can achieve more in life and are more likely to raise their own children better than others. For general knowledge, cognitive skills come from a shift in knowledge based economy due to the decline in manufacturing employment, the growth of the technology and financial sectors, and labor recruitment from a global talent pool. • 34. Is Realism an Obsolete Theory, or Is It More Relevant Than... Realism, as a way of interpreting international relations has often been conceived to be closely tied to the Cold War. Realism, rooted in the experience of World War II and the Cold War, is said to be undergoing a crisis of confidence largely because the lessons adduced do not convincingly apply directly to the new realities of international relations in the twenty first century (Clinton 2007:1) Worse still, if policymakers steadfastly adhere to realist precepts, they will have to navigate the unchartered seas of the post Cold War disorder with a Cold War cartography, and blind devotion to realism could compromise their ability to prescribe paths to a more orderly and just system. Realist ideology, statism, specifically, suggests that survival and sovereignty of the state is its primary goals, and the very condition of its existence. With this said, states do have the ability to take care of other actors interests and needs in the international community out of something that could be called a moral responsibility , but only if it somehow serves its own national interests in the process. Morgenthau (1949) explains that state actors who pursue certain national interests and act aggressively resort to liberal sentiment, as a convenient means of justifying their behaviour in the eyes of both the international community, and their own people. This is not to say however, that some states are sincere in certain good hearted pursuits. But it is indeed true that moral principles prove to be serviceable to national interest (Morgenthau 1949:207). Machiavelli goes so far as to claim that morality is the product of power (Carr 2001:63). Take for example the nineteenth century, in which the British Empire was the global hegemon at the time. As a reason to explain imperialism and its colonial aspirations, they advertised the theory of the White Man s Burden as a moral and social norm, in which ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

It is used as a means of transmitting concepts, knowledge, and values, often to younger generations (Ravelli Webber, 2010). Education and schooling differ in all societies, varying based on the methods of teaching of different cultural groups. For instance, Canadian Aboriginal people were taught based on the needs of their individual families and class. This greatly differed from the European system of education, which stressed adequate involvement with all of society. Though the Aboriginal manner of education was efficient and effective, the Europeans wanted to bring a change to their previous practices. As many Aboriginals stood in the way of European economic expansion, Europeans forced the younger generation of Aboriginals to residential schools. This justified and assisted in their need to revolutionize former Aboriginal beliefs. More specifically, the correspondence principle identifies the changes Aboriginal children had to make in school in order to reflect that of the normal workplace. For instance, certain ideologies were enforced by residential schools. Aboriginal children were punished if they spoke in their native tongue, as this rule was reflected and followed in the workplace. With these regulations in place, the Aboriginal culture was on the verge of destruction, as it was nearly impossible for any future Aboriginal generations to receive proper knowledge on their native culture. More generally, conflict theory is based on social inequality, and it explains how the powerful promote their own interests at the expense of the weak (Ravelli Webber, 2010). Residential schools signify this notion, as the Aboriginals were mistreated and abused by the more powerful, prominent religious figures in the school. Overall, the conflict theory best describes the residential school system, and it correctly identifies how the Aboriginal culture was destroyed as a result. The statues being placed at Crosby beach had created a large tourist attraction and we see how the public introduce their own enjoyment to the art. With the sculptures being constantly moved to different locations, they were granted permission to be permanently positioned at Crosby beach in 2005, despite some objections.
