Health Forecasting Essay
Health forecasting is a novel region of forecasting, and an important apparatus for foreseeing future
health occasions or circumstances, for example, requests for health services and social insurance
needs. It encourages preventive pharmaceutical and social insurance intercession systems, by pre
illuminating health service suppliers to take suitable alleviating activities to minimize chances and
oversee request. Health forecastingrequires reliable information, data and appropriate logical
instruments for the expectation of particular health conditions or circumstances.
There is no single way to deal with health forecasting, thus different strategies have regularly been
embraced to conjecture total or specific health conditions. Then, there are no characterized health
forecasting skylines (time spans) to coordinate the decisions of health forecasting methods
/approaches that are regularly connected. The essential standards of health forecasting have not
likewise been satisfactorily depicted to manage the procedure. This paper gives a brief presentation
and possible investigation of health forecasting. It describes the key issues that are essential for
health forecasting, including definitions, standards of health forecasting, and the ... Show more

Substance Abuse In Little Rock Arkansas Essay
Addiction Treatment Centers in Little Rock, Arkansas
Addiction treatment centers in Little Rock, Arkansas have the reputation and renowned quality
service that you want in drug and alcohol rehabilitation facilities. Prospective patients, and
sometimes their families, come from all over the U.S. to enter into treatment at the outpatient care
centers or the addiction treatment centers in Fayetteville, Arkansas.
Substance abuse is a tragedy that touches many lives. Abuse begins with a single use event that,
with continued use and overindulgence, transforms into a battle. The abuser most always loses that
battle. Personal relationships, social ties, and employment suffers. Irresponsible and erratic
behavior becomes the norm, and though the abuser is aware on some level of the reckless and
thoughtless acts that they commit, they continue to use and abuse their drug of choice. What starts
as experimentation often ends in addiction. The best hope for a person in the grips of substance
abuse is immediate, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Addiction claims the user through physiological dependence that creates a need for the drug of
choice on a very basic level. Through repeated substance abuse, the user gains tolerance for the
drug, needing it in larger amounts, and on a more frequent basis, until the body cannot function
normally without the drug. Withdrawal symptoms now also occur upon attempting to halt use. This
is how substance abuse becomes the disease of addiction.
The physical, emotional, and psychological effects of addiction have the potential to make the
addict vulnerable to a great many symptoms and disorders including paranoia, depression, anxiety,
PTSD and other co existing mental disorders, cancer, cardiovascular disease, stroke, heart attack,
organ failure, hepatitis B C, memory lapses, incontinence, poor oral health and gum disease, skin

they were nothing earthly now nothing but black shadows of disease and starvation, lying

The Imperial Republic
The Imperial Republic
Why did the U.S. Pursue Imperialism The US begun to close the frontier which increased fears
that the resources the country had were dwindling. This fear of dwindling resources would push
the US to find resources abroad. The US had also had a taste of power when it subjugated the
Indian tribes and had grown used to exerting colonial control over dependent people. The 1893
depression drove businessmen to look overseas for new markets. There was also a surge in
efficiency that created many new products that needed to be sold in these new overseas markets.
The idea of Social Darwinism again played a role in the US pursue of imperialism, the idea was that
the weaker races of the world needed to be controlled. The ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

X. Seizing the Philippines
Secretary of the Navy Theodore Roosevelt wanted to strengthen the Pacific fleet so he ordered
George Dewey to attack the Spanish forces in the Spanish colony, the Philippines. The war that had
started as a way of freeing Cuba had turned into a war to take away all of Spain s colonies.
XI. Battle of San Juan Hill
Santiago Harbor was a deep water harbor that gave the Spanish control of Santiago City and of
the harbor. This meant that the Spanish would not give up the hill. Theodore Roosevelt orders the
assault of Kettle Hill which he took lead in the battle and took the hill quickly. He leads the charge
to take San Juan Hill, he was proud and too bold but he won the hill.

The Restoration Of Grecian Philosophical Documents
The Preservation of Grecian Philosophical Documents Was an Important Islamic Contribution to
Western Civilization
Islamic preservation and translation of the Greek philosophical works of Aristotle, and Plato
contributed to the flourishing of Western civilization. Under the direction of Islamic cultural
patrons, they translated these vital texts from Greek into other languages. Such actions were
significantly contributive to the revival and transmission of these pieces, bringing about their
subsequent spread throughout Europe. Centuries of Islamic scholarship like this were crucial to the
eventual emergence of the European Renaissance Period.
The anterior exposure of the Arab world to Greek philosophy follows paths reaching back to the
sixth century C.E. A common occurrence among Judaism, Christianity, and Islam, were their
interactions with Greek philosophy, and their attempts to reconcile their religious dogmas with the
Greek philosophical known truths of reason; trying to marry faith with reason. Commonalities
between their interactions produced a naturally occurring process of sharing respective religious
and philosophical problems, and it is in the latter that Islamic philosophers deserve much credit
from Judaism and Christianity, for the Abbasid caliphate s deference to translation and preservation
of key Aristotelian (and other) works long lost to the West. The irony of this sharing between
religions remains that each was using the similar material to try and prove

In a joint study with Deakin University, Australia, and...
In a joint study with Deakin University, Australia, and University of Waterloo, Ontario Canada,
students analyzed increases in lipid metabolism gene expression in human skeletal muscle tissue
after exercise training. Looking at previous studies, endurance exercise elicits increased metabolism
of fatty acids (FA) and carbohydrates, in relation with the metabolismof FA it has been shown that
up regulated genes exhibit their corresponding proteins to transport, initiate, bind, and increase
enzyme activity in response to exercise. Therefore the hypothesis is that certain genes will show
expression and the expression of the corresponding proteins will be more abundant after acute
exercise and after an individual has gone through a short term... Show more content on

Once samples were obtained they were placed in liquid nitrogen, once ready for testing of the
sample the researchers used Real Time PCR and corresponding lab chemicals and procedures to
get results of gene expression. In addition to the muscle biopsy they tested VO2 peak, blood
glucose and lactose levels, and heart rate exchange. These results were used to analyze fat
oxidation. After the nine day exercise bout the initial FA oxidation had increased in the skeletal
muscle by 24%. This increase equates to be 4.5 g of oxidized fat. The analysis of the results
shows gene expression when measured after acute exercise showed no significant change in FA
uptake and breakdown in the (FABP), and (FAT CD36) genes. It also had no significant change
in the corresponding transcription factors. These results are from the biopsies obtained directly
after exercise and 3 hours after exercise on the first day of exercise. The results differed when
analysis of the biopsies were obtained on the ninth day after the exercise routine had ended. This
also was tested one and three hours after exercise had stopped. The results showed that there was
in increase in FAT CD36 and CPT I genes. This shows that there is a direct relationship with
exercise training and the genes responsible for FA being taken across plasma membrane (FAT
CD36) and also for transport gene transporting across the mitochondrial membrane (CPT l). These
results show that that the researchers treatment for the study

George Eliot s Middlemarch
In George Eliot s Middlemarch, Will Ladislaw is introduced as Mr. Casaubon s young cousin.
He is seen in the gardens at Lowick Manor and described as a gentleman with a sketch book [...]
and light brown curls (49). Mr. Casaubon describes him as a young man who with a mercurial
temperament, general inclination to resist responsibility and an affinity towards grand artistic
endeavors. Later in the book, town gossip Mrs. Cadwallader refers to him as a dangerous little
sprig [...] with his opera song and his ready tongue. A sort of Byronic, amorous conspirator (237).
In Middlemarch, Eliot weaves a character with a Romantic character into the social web of a

In his Preface, Wordsworth claims that the principle objective of his poetry was, to choose
incidents and situations from common life, and to relate or describe them, throughout, as far as
was possible in a selection of language really used by men, and, at the same time, to throw over
them a certain coloring of imagination, whereby ordinary things should be presented to the mind in
an unusual aspect. (294)
The Victorian approach to knowledge which took on the form of large scale surveys, like Mr.
Casaubon s Key to All Mythologies, and factual explorations of absolute truths, like Dr. Lydgate s
practice of medicinal research. Unlike these grandiose projects, Wordsworth and Ladislaw stand
for an exploration of the world through human understanding. In explaining the nature of his work,
Ladislaw tells Dorothea that being a poet is having the kind of soul in which knowledge passes
instantaneously into feeling, and feeling flashes back as a new organ of knowledge (142). In
stating this, Eliot is in direct conversation with Wordsworth s claim regarding the objective of the
Romantic poet. The Romantics believed that the physical nature of objects was intrinsically
attached to the effect they had on the perceiver and the true pursuit of knowledge didn t discount
either of these two aspects. There is a key difference in the

The Concentration Of Chloride Concentration
Chloride concentration is frequently measured in veterinary practices, but not critically assessed as
other electrolytes, and often referred to as the forgotten electrolyte. Several studies have reported a
significantly increased mortality in critically ill human patients with hyperchloremia or
hypochloremia, raising the concern that abnormal chlorideconcentrations may have clinical
significance. Abnormal chloride concentrations can result from various underlying diseases as well
as from iatrogenic interventions such as drug and fluid administration. Thus, it is important to
understand the significance and mechanisms of developing abnormal chloride concentrations in an
effort to prevent and treat changes appropriately and promptly.... Show more content on

Function of chloride ions: In the 1990s, the effect of chloride on the acid base balance was
thoroughly studied as a physiochemical approach, called the Stewart approach. With the Stewart
approach, chloride is a key determinant of the strong ion difference (SID), one of the three
independent variables to determine the acid base status (the two other independent variables are the
partial pressure of carbon dioxide and the total weak acid concentration).
Strong ion difference (SID) = ([Na+] + [K+] + [Ca2+] + [Mg2+]) ([Cl ] + unmeasured strong
anions*) Formula (a) *Unmeasured strong anions: lactate, acetoacetate, ОІ hydroxybutyrate,
sulfate, etc
Normal SID will depend on the laboratory but is generally in the range of 30 to 40 mmol/L.
Quantitatively, changes in the strong ion concentrations leading to a decreased SID will result in
acidosis with increased hydrogen ion concentration whereas changes leading to an increased SID
will result in alkalosis, with decreased hydrogen ion concentration. At constant concentrations of
sodium and other strong ions, a decrease in the chloride concentration increases SID and causes
hypochloremic alkalosis, whereas an increase in the chloride concentration decreases SID and
causes hyperchloremic acidosis. The chloride ion is, therefore, important because of its independent
role in acid base regulation.
Besides regulating acid base balance,

The Cloud Of Public Cloud
Introduction: In today s technical world we are experiencing the advancement of moving or
storing larger data from one place to another. 20 years ago it would be impossible to access any
data from any part of the world today it is possible because of one new peace of technology and
that is the cloud. The cloud is term that explains a type of technology that can be used anywhere.
Just like the actual cloud we see in the sky is everywhere though out the planet so is the technical
term cloud. There are four main types of cloud which consists of private, public, community and
hybrid. Each one of these have their own pro s and con s that help an organization in one way or

Private cloud: Private cloud is similar to public the difference is it used for mom and pop shops.
Meaning that small business uses this type of cloud because it is not designed to hold large
amounts of data. A private cloud still needs people to give it the maintenance it needs such as
making sure it is up to date everything is up to date and so on: A private cloud is a particular
model of cloud computing that involves a distinct and secure cloud based environment in which
only the specified client can operate. As with other cloud models, private clouds will provide
computing power as a service within a virtualized environment using an underlying pool of
physical computing resource. However, under the private cloud model, the cloud (the pool of
resource) is only accessible by a single organization providing that organization with greater
control and privacy ( What is a private cloud , 2015). This is explaining that organizations that
have small security issues or are unpredictable meaning that they may go out of business are the
common types of organizations that use this business because it is hard to tell if it is worth the
investment in the long run to keep investing money in a peace of technology that a company cannot
afford to keep. Community: The community cloud is a very unique type of cloud computing and
the reason being it is because it allows companies to get together and use one cloud. In the tech

Ellington s band thrived and played all throughout Washington and Virginia, usually playing for
embassy and private parties. His band included Sonny Greer on drums, his childhood friend Otto
Hardwick on alto saxophone, Elmer Snowden on banjo and Arthur Whetsol on trumpet. The group
performed for both African American and white audiences which was quite rare in those times.
When Ellington s drummer Sonny Greer joined the Wilber Sweatman Orchestra in New York
City, he decided to leave behind his successful career in Washington, D.C and moved to Harlem.
Shortly after his move to Harlem, in May of 1927, Andy Preer who had been leading the house
band at the Cotton Club died. In looking for a replacement, the gig went to Duke Ellington and his
men. The clubs decor was modelled after the old south of plantations and slavery, hence the name
the Cotton Club . The club was segregated, meaning only whites were allowed in the audience,
while all the waiters and entertainers were African American. What made Duke Ellington and his
Cotton Club Orchestra famous were the weekly broadcasts on radio station WHN. (Cotton) These
broadcasts were heard all over the country and gave Ellington national exposure. With the Great
Depression worsening, the recording industry too was hit by the financial crisis and that resulted
into dropping of over 90% of artist by the year 1933. (Ruhlmann) In the case of

Annals Of A Former World Essay
1. Annals of a Former World, by John McPhee
In patient, lyrical prose, McPhee takes the reader on a geologic journey through the United
States. This volume was originally published as 4 books; each is centered on a road trip the
author took with a geologist, observing the earth next to Eisenhower s great US highways for
clues into its geologic past. Annals has this no borders, idealistic, On the Road for geologists kind
of feel (though a bit more grown up.) I pick up Annals every once in a while when im in a relaxed
mood, when im looking for a good example of literary science writing. Highly recommended as a
companion for camping trips, if you can fit it into your pack.
2. Surely You re Joking, Mr, Feynman, by Richard Feynman
A string of excerpts from Feynman s life/career, Surely You re Joking is probably the popular
science book I have read through the most times, not because it is short, but because it is at once
compelling, understated, and full of indispensable scientific concepts. Richard Feynman has an
uncanny ability to make physics easily digestible, his lectures are a testament to that and Surely
You re Joking is no exception. Feynman s easy prose makes the reader feel like physics is
understandable, as if he has laid out a diagram of the universe ... Show more content on

Enduring Love is a fiction book, partially written from the perspective of a former scientist, but
more importantly, it is a suspenseful story that lets the author s attitudes towards life bleed
through each and every page. Ian McEwan is a well know rationalist who believes that science is
just as much a part of culture as anything else a position with which I very much empathize. This
is a literary tale, sure, but McEwan manages to mention scientific ideas all over the place,
integrating science and its ways of thinking into the lives of his complex characters and slowly

Partition of India
The Partition Of India part 1 Independence
The british ruled over India for over two centuries, introducing systems, ideas, and practices into the
indian culture. In 1935, The Government of India Act was the most recent time Indiahad been
governed, and the government had a fair amount of responsibility. The already existing social order
influenced the nationalist movement, and the leaders being chosen. India developed a federal
government, with three legislative lists of power. The constitution of India is federal but also
includes a strong central government, with power over the union. The central government has
power over the states even though they are supposed to be autonomous. The new constitution of
india separates itself greatly from its british ruled past, just not necessarily politically. For example,
new fundamental rights were provided in this constitution for the first time, however the idea of
suffrage was also introduced by this constitution. There was much social and economic reform that
took place due to them trying to break away from their british past. https://books.google.com

The Software Development Field Of Computer Science
Currently, I am pursuing a career in the software development field of computer science. In this
field, I will mostly be creating programs and software to be installed or run on computers or
other machines. Of course like any professional career, ethical issues can appear, but the issues
found in the tech industry are not always found in the office area. Many of the issues developers
face are outside of the office area and out in the field. The type of issues I am addressing is
computercrimes, computer failures, protection and theft of software, and the corruption of privacy
and company property. Developers face the challenge of protecting their programs from being
misused and making sure that the programs are safe for users. Two cases that show these types of
dilemmas are the Therac 25case and the infamous Target hack of 2013. The Therac 25 case will
show what happens when a product and its software are not properly constructed, while the Target
Hack case will show an example of the misuse of software that lead to millions of credit cards
stolen.
It is not uncommon for a company to want to shell out their newest and latest machine as quick
as possible, but along with this comes the temptations to cut corners and possibly make mistakes.
The Therac 25 case is a famous example of this. The Therac 25 was originally developed in 1976
by the Atomic Energy of Canada and CGR, a French Based Company (Nielsen, 2003). The Therac
25 was a multi million dollar radiation therapy

Ronald Reagan and Communism
Ronald Reagan and Communism
Introduction
Critics remarked that Ronald Reagan tended to perceive things in terms of black and white, and
his attitude toward Soviet concerns was no different. The organizing principle of Reagan s
defense and foreign polices was anti Communism, and Soviet policy to him pervaded every part
of the globe. Each of Reagan s predecessors, from 1945 onwards, had been occupied with the
possible Soviet threat towards America but Reagan was obsessed with it. Unlike his predecessors,
too, he saw no possibility of compromise with the USSR, simply discounting communism as a sad,
bizarre chapter in human history whose last pages are even now being written (Dallek, 129).
Interestingly enough, Harper s editor Lewis H. Lapham commented that Reagan s anti Soviet
rhetoric may have reflected concerns about his own country. America was suffering from big
government, atheism, and relaxed moral standards. America saw in the USSR what it most fears
in itself... Americans portray [it] as a monolithic prison, a dull and confined place where nobody
is safe and nobody is free. The America of the 1980s portrayed Russia as a land of coarse
commissars and exploited peasants where cruel ideologies bent on world domination flourished
and produced victims of a repressive and greedy government. How different does this sound to
capitalist America of Reaganism? Indeed, Lapham concluded that Americans aim at the targets of
their own despotism. (quoted by Scheer, 148 149).

Religion Acts As A Central Point For Many People
Religion acts as a central point for many people, in which they can relate to each other in
different ways that nobody else can. People who share the same/ similar religious beliefs often
feel closer to one and other, in a way that otherwise couldn t be expressed. The connection that
comes about in these religious communities allows these given to form a closer connection and
form a larger congregation. In some cases, the individuals in these kinds of communities are very
strict about their traditions, behaviors, actions, and in some extreme cases they do not accept any
other way of life. There are plenty of religious communities that are down to earth and open to the
outside world, they accept challenges to their beliefs because they believe that challenges make
their religionstronger and tighter nit. No matter what the circumstance these types of communities
have an encouraging amount of strength, and typical only crumble/ fall apart from within. If
someone from the religious group starts to question the core values and beliefs of their community,
they typical turn against the given individual. We see this represented in My Name is Asher Lev,
written by Christian Potok, in which he explores the life of a Hasidic Jew. When one person starts
to question within the community, the entire community gets affected. For the better of the
community, this individual should be diminished from the community as a whole because it is
tearing it apart from the inside out. This may

Psychodynamic And Object Relations Theories
Amongst all psychodynamic approaches, object relations theory fitted like a puzzle for me. I
have an integrated style with a mix of some humanistic and psychodynamic approaches like Freud
s free association or Jung s dream analysis but Object Relations stand out for me. I relate to it at a
deep personal level where my poor relationship with my motheraffected my married life and in my
client work a common thread that ran through was how faulty infantile object relations have an
impact on adult relationships. Object relations theory follows a model that believes that children
are driven by the need for attachment with primary caregivers especially the mother and it is
paramount for the development of a free functioning psychic structure.

Health Insurance Failure
In 1915 a failed attempt was made for a national health insurance program. Another attempt was
made in 1935 with a single line authorizing a study of health insurance in the Social Security bill.
In 1945, President Harry Truman endorsed universal health insurance. To be followed by a 1951,
plan for Old Age and Survivors Insurance was introduced. Then in 1965, Medicare was passed
under then President Lyndon Johnson (Oberlander, 2015). The model bill drafted by Progressives
in 1915 for national health insurance, contained limited coverage for the working class and those
who made less than $1200 a year, which included dependents. Included were hospitals, maternity

The line which was removed would have authorized the study of health insurance (Oberlander,

was to be a single plan which would include all classes of society. It failure was due partially to
the stigmatism of anti communism and as before the special interest groups (Oberlander,

The American College of Gastroenterology Guidelines recommend colonoscopy,as the preferred

Mucosal Resection (EMR) was developed for removingsessile or flat lesions confined to the
superficial layers (mucosa and submucosa) of the gastrointestinal (GI) tract, including the colon,
esophagus, stomach, and duodenum. EMR with submucosal injection helps facilitate complete
resection of polyps (Hwang 2015; Fyock 2010; Steele 2013), which is critical, as incomplete
resections may contribute to the development of colon cancer in patients despite being on a

(Hwang 2015). This is typically controlled by snare tip soft coagulation (STSC), a technique
involving protruding the snare tip 2 3 mm beyond the catheter, followed by application of
coagulating current while lightly touching the tip directly onto the bleeding point. Vigorous
irrigation with the foot pump clears the resection field of blood and helps localize the bleeding
vessel. In the minority of cases where STSC does not achieve hemostasis, coagulating forceps or
through the scope (TTS) clips may be used, both of which have been associated with a low rate of
re bleeding and complications. (Ma 2016)
Delayed post polypectomy bleeding (DPPB) is rare after cold snare polypectomy and is usually
related to thermal injury following hot snare polypectomy, occurring in 1 2% of patients with
sessile polyps 20mm in size. The risk of DPPB is directly related to polyp size (risk increases by
9% to 13% for every 1 mm in polyp diameter), right colon lesions, pedunculated morphology, and
polyp pathology. For pedunculated polyps, the increased risk of DPPB is associated with a stalk
exceeding 5 mm, polyp head 20 mm in size, location in right colon, and the presence of
malignancy. Most DPPB cases can be managed endoscopically., In many cases bleeding resolves
spontaneously. Options for endoscopic hemostasis in the event of active bleeding include forceps
coagulation or endoclips. The method selected is based on lesion location, endoscopist

Estimation of Ascorbic Acid
Title: Estimation of Ascorbic acid
Aim:To determine the ascorbic acid content of canned apple and orange juice To determine the
volume of canned juice necessary to provide 75mg of Vitamin C
Introduction:
For the estimation of ascorbic acid, the method used involved the titration of the ascorbic acid, in
the presence of a redox indicator 2,6 dichlorophenol indophenol (DCPIP) which acts as both an
oxidant so as to oxidise the ascorbic acid to dehydroascorbic acid, and it acts as an indicator to
determine the end point of the titration. The samples of ascorbic acid used have to be made acidic
first by adding metaphosphoric acid to remove proteins and ferric ions which would precipitate.

1mL of apple juice solution contains 1.755 x 10 6/52.6 = 3.3 x 10 8 moles of acetic acid
Mass of 3.3 x 10 8 moles of ascorbic acid = 3.3 x 10 8 x 176g = 5.808 x 10 6g = 5.808 x 10 3 mg
/mL
Volume of apple juice necessary to provide 75mg of vitamin C= (75/5.808 x 10 3) x 1000 = 12.9L
Discussion:
In this experiment the ascorbic acid content of canned orange juice and apple juice were
determined via titrimetric analysis. The indicator used was 2,6 dichlorophenol indophenol which
also acts as an oxidising agent to oxidise the ascorbic acid. Since ascorbic acid is a potent
reducing agent, it would become oxidised very quickly, so to reduce the chances of missing the end
point of the titration, the samples used were diluted with distilled water.
Before the samples were titrated they were acidified with glacial acetic acid since they would be
heavily diluted. Also 5% metaphosphoric acid was added to prevent the precipitation of proteins
and ferric ions which would interfere with the end point of the titration. The results obtained show
that it takes 8.5L of canned orange juice and 12.9L of canned apple juice to provide the

The Innovation of Augmented Reality
INTRODUCTION
In recent years, as the field of Electrical and Electronic Engineering developed rapidly, many new
technologies and inventions emerged gradually. Among these new technologies, Augmented
Reality (AR) has become a popular technique that is considered to have a large potential for the
future. This paper will indicate the definition of AR and give a brief introduction of its developing
history. It will mainly focus on introducing some different applications of AR technology and give
some instances that these applications of AR have achieved currently. Finally, there will be an
evaluation of the benefits and contributions of AR, which include a discussion of how this
technique influenced the field of Electrical and Electronic Engineering and society.
A standard definition of AR is given by Azuma (1997) that Augmented Reality(AR) is a variation of
Virtual Reality (VR). This new technology is about augmenting the real world environment with
virtual information to create a mixed reality live view. According to Azuma, there are three
common characteristics of AR: the combination of real world environment and virtual information,
interactive in a real time and the scenes in 3D environment. The first characteristic states that AR
allows the user to see the real world environment combined with the virtual objects. The second
characteristic describes that during the use of AR, all the view and scenes are happening in a real
time, so

Cartesian Aesthetics
Journal 2 (Truth)
Introduction
Aesthetics and truth are interlinked as one induces the other. Aesthetics are the philosophy of taste
and beauty and vary from person to person. These determine the varying realities and truths for an
individual. The abilities of a person to identify beauty in things differ from another and this is why
truth also varies among people as it depends upon the notions and conceptions expressed in terms of
assertions.
What is Cartesian Aesthetics and how did/does it affect design? Use specific examples and explore
how the concept of aesthetics is linked to that of truth.

One was the reality of the senses. This is pertinent to the fact that reality of the physical world
includes all that is present in the society, whereas, the second reality is of the mind. The thoughts
and beliefs of an individual form a second reality and it is universal and unchanging. In the second
reality, conceptions of truth, ethics and justice come into play. Hence, the mind decides the truth of
all things by its thoughts and beliefs and no truth is more universal than that. Truth varies from
people to people. This is eminent in the photographs of any photographer. People see what they
want to see in them and various people can see various things in a single photograph depending on
their thoughts.
A person is likely to ask many questions while watching a photograph while some people may ask
different questions3. This is photographers try to convey a singular theme in their photographs so
that the viewers could discern a certain conclusion from them. Although they may agree or disagree
with the conclusion of the theme, they are able to identify the thoughts of the photographer in the
photographs.

guitar. It was then that 64 year old Stephen Paddock opened fire on the crowd from the 32nd
floor of his Mandalay Bay hotel room. At the end of his rampage, 58 people were left dead and
489 injured in what is being called the deadliest mass shooting in modern American history. This act
of senseless violence has left law enforcement and victims scouring for answers as to why such a
devastating act was perpetrated. Since Paddock was found dead in his hotel room from a self
inflicted gunshot wound, authorities have unveiled a life of gambling, fantasies of violence, and a
neglected childhood, all stoking the question: Was mental illness to blame? Though this conclusion
is one that US policymakers, journalists, and the general public tend to align themselves with,
psychiatric research and gun violence statistics state otherwise.
Politics And Assumptions In the aftermath of mass shootings, the United States democratic and
political discourse oftentimes concentrates on the impact of mental illness. For instance, the media
did not hesitate to diagnose Dylann Roof,

Comparison Of John Wilkes Booth And Lee Harvey Oswald
Although there have been numerous assassination plots and attempts, there have only been four
successful presidential assassinations in the history of the U.S. Today I ll be comparing and
contrasting two different president killers: John Wilkes Booth and Lee Harvey Oswald. They lived
almost a century apart, but still have many similarities. Lee and John basically did the same crime,
assassinating a U.S President, however, they have numerous differences.
Lee Harvey Oswald was born on the 18th of October in 1939. In 1956 Lee had entered the United
States Marines. Within 2 months he scored 212 on a marksman s test. He departed from the
military in 1959. Roughly 8 days later he departed the U.S and headed to Russia. He had spent
some time all over the world until his final destination in Dallas, Texas. In November 1963, Lee

Shakespearean Acting Company. Abraham Lincoln watched John Booth perform The Marble
Heart at Ford s Theater. Booth had respiratory issues so he left the acting company. In the 1850

John Wilkes Booth attempted to kidnap Abraham Lincoln, but failed. April 14th, is when John
walked into Ford s Theater while Abe was watching Our American Cousin and shot him in the
back of the head with a .44 caliber hand cannon. He hopped off the balcony seats and landed on
the stage. He yelled The south is avenged then once he hopped off the stage he broke his leg. He

The Great Gifts Of All Time By Thomas Alva Edison
On February 11, 1847, America received one of the greatest gifts of all time, Thomas Alva
Edison. At an early age, Edison developed an unparalleled thirst for knowledge and education
that withstood throughout his life time. By no means was he the ideal student however; he had
to be pulled from public school due to hyperactivity that was considered difficult behavior by his
teachers. Through homeschooling from his mother, an accomplished school teacher, and self
education, Edison was able to obtain a vast amount of knowledge which he began putting to use
quickly. His career started at the age of twelve when he sold candy and newspaper along the
Grand Trunk Railroad line. Little did anyone know, the events of this time of his life would
foreshadow the rest of his career. Along the railroad Edison pursued his first business venture in
the publishing of his newspaper, performed his first experiments in a baggage car, and saved a
child from an off course train, an event that would ultimately introduce him to the world of
electrical science. Today, Thomas Edisonhas a lasting place in history as one of the greatest
innovators of all time. He is the quintessential American success story, coming from humble
beginnings and gaining a substantial amount of wealth, and his strides in the electrical field of
science helped change the daily lives of American citizens forever. Thomas Edison s impact on
America can be directly attributed to his businesses, the telegraph, and his inventions

Managing Resistance to Change Essay
One of the most difficult tasks for managers is to manage their employee s resistance to changes
within the organization. It is clear that change is an unavoidable element found in all
organizations and one of the main reasons of stress for employees. This is why some employees
experience difficulties coping and adapting to it. Managing change can be a very complex process
for managers, but assisting their employees to adapt and assimilate change can be even more
complicated. This is why managers and leaders must be knowledgeable at managing the dimension
of people in order to be successful at managing change. Understanding how others cope, think, and
assimilate change becomes a valuable asset for managers. This understanding assists... Show more

Management failed to communicate and educated the employees regarding the reasons leading to
the changes and why it is necessary. Due to this the employees cannot understand the need for the
change and the dynamic behind it.
Why was this change necessary? Through analysis of our employee s trends regarding our original
over time policy our leadership group decided that a change to the policy was needed. By making
use of the data gathered management discovered that many employees were abusing the flexibility
provided by the original policy. Although the leadership group understands that our employees are
not obligated in any way to work any additional hours beyond their required schedules, they
assessed the tremendous waste of resources incurred due to our employee s failure to follow
through with their commitment. It is understood that the successful institution of changes within
the organization requires the adoption of new approaches based on the people and structure of the
organization suffering the change (Trice Beyer, 2005). Along with that, management must also
understand what motivates and triggers the employee s performance, behavior, and efficiency
(Harrison, 2005). This understanding allows them to be more effective at managing the factors
triggering these elements (Harrison, 2005). By analyzing the original over time policy, the
efficiency, behaviors, and performance of our employees our leadership group

The Afterlife of Ancient Greece
Where do we go when we die? This is a question that most people spiritual or not ask themselves at
least once within their lifetime. In reality, this question is likely to never be answered, but is
nevertheless an exciting area for study. Every culture, every religion and every individual person
has some type of theory or belief on what happens to us after our bodies meet their final rest, and
the ancient Greeks were no exception to this. The ancient Greek view on life after death is the
most interesting to study, and belongs to perhaps one of the most influential belief systems to
emerge within the ancient world. Rife with mythology and magic, the beliefs of the afterlife that
were held by the ancient Greek people included the idea of a heaven vs. hell, reincarnation and the
notion of katabasis , and were so powerful they paved the way for future religions ideologies. The
ancient Greeks were a highly superstitious and spiritual people. As the Greeks had no written book
or scripture of their faith, it can be assumed that the ancient peoples lived their lives based on the
stories told within their mythology. Mythology was used for various reasons, the three major ones
being as a cosmogony, as etiological stories to explain otherwise unexplainable phenomena, and as
a means to deter mortals from

The Controversy Of Banning Books In Schools
A challenge is an attempt to remove or restrict materials, based upon the objections of a person or
group. A banning is the removal of these materials (Banned Books Week). Books should not be
banned. Proponents of book banning argue that they can no longer trust libraries and schools to
protect students from controversial material, by banning books they are protecting students from
these inappropriate and controversial material, and they say some books are offensive to certain
groups. But by banning books, you place limitations on students, violate the freedoms of authors as
well as the readers, the reasons behind the majority of bannings are absurd, most likely avoidable,
and implicated by fear. Banning books places limitations on adolescents.... Show more content on

Banning books is an exaggerated solution to an avoidable problem. Specifically, rather than
banning [a] book for it s sexual content, a better solution would be for parents to put such subjects
into perspective for the children who may want to read the book (Rich). Some parents think that
banning books is the only to deal with their children around touchy subjects, when, in reality,
sitting down and talking with their children would have been not only easier, but more effective,
too. Books are banned for a multitude of reasons, many of which most people do not agree upon.
For instance, there is a biased, non standard scale of what random people perceive as wrong or
unsuitable in which determines whether or not a book is banned (Yung). What some parents might
consider horrifyingly inappropriate, others might consider a necessary lesson for the education of
their child. Promoters of book banning say that they are protecting children s innocence, but
book banees only do what they do because they re afraid, afraid of new things and afraid of
letting their kids grow up. In the words of accredited author and Dorothy Canfield Fisher Children
s Book Award recipient, Judy Blume, I believe that censorship grows out of fear, and because fear
is contagious, some parents are easily swayed... They want to believe that if their children don t
read about it, their children won t know about it. And if they

What Is The Theme Of A Bend In The River

A Bend in the River Book Review
The world is what it is; men who are nothing, who allow themselves to become nothing, have no
place in it . That s how V.S. Naipaul starts his novel A Bend in the River . The book describes the
post independence struggles of an unnamed Africa governed by a dictator, The Big Man . A Bend
in the River is a story of historical upheaval and social breakdown. The collision of cultures in
India, Arab, Africa, South America, and the Caribbean inform the extraordinary view of Naipaul
s creative imagination. He was born in Trinidad in 1932 from a Hindu family that had come
generations back as indentured servants from the subcontinent of India to a tropical island in the
Caribbean, where Hindus were a minority. Perhaps the shape of his vision owes something to his
own placement in the world. Salim, our first person narrator whose roots come from mixed
Muslim Arab African but more closely related to Hindus of northwestern India. He and his family
had been living at the Eastern coast of Africa that was filled with people who were not truly

wisdom Salim gains through his experience, regardless of feeling different from the other prisoners,
he reaches a certain understanding of their situation within the context of them and not his own
assumptions. A Bend in the River brought to light a whole world, a culture, a historical experience,
and it did so in a way that felt true and insightful at that time. It gave us an understanding of the

Compare and contrast Alexander II and Alexander III Essay
Compare and contrast Alexander II and Alexander III
Although they were father and son, the reigns of Alexander II and Alexander III took off in
completely different directions. Alexander II was committed to his empire by vowing to reform
Russia, making it more in line with nineteenth century western society. His son, on the other hand,
was the unprepared tsar, whose actions were literally reactions to his father s unexpected
assassination. Consequently, Alexander II went down in history as much more productive in the
field of domestic policy; in dealing with revolutionaries; and in his foreign policy than his son Alex
III would ever be.
1855 was a tough time for Alexander II to take the throne. Russia was in the middle of a costly war

Alexander III s stance on domestic issues came as no surprise. As a youngster, he was tutored by
Konstantin Pobodonestev, a conservative, forceful man who strongly opposed Western ideology.
Pobodonestev s ideas and beliefs rubbed off on the young boy, and he blamed his father s liberal
minded reforms as the cause for his murder. Seeking to strengthen the autocracy, he gave officials
the power to declare a state of emergency, and to arrest or fine anyone unreliable. He also cleverly
cut off schools by setting up discriminatory admission rules, against women, poor families, and the
Jews. He then forced the expansion of Russian culture and language by forcing everyone in the
nation to speak, write, and think in Russian; otherwise known as Russification. Alexander III
preferred having as much control as possible over his people, something he did not have in
common with his father.
Despite all the work Alexander II did toward reforming Russia, the Era of Great Reforms left one
crucial aspect unaltered: the power of the emperor. The intentional neglect of this was what kept the
reforms from realizing their true potential. This led to dissatisfaction, which encouraged repression,
terror, and most importantly: revolution. The first was the Polish Rebellion, caused by the failure of
Russian authorities to suppress Polish nationalism. Although the Poles failed, other minorities
sprung up for their voice

History of Video Games
Video games have shaped the world your years. Video games have defined us and made us

and inspiration for those who might one day become a game designer them self. Aside from the
gamers and designers, the video gameitself is a whole other story. Video games are now a days
played on consoles and PCs made from the hardware with all the components from it needs to send

Alexander Douglas. You could say that was the first video game but in 1958 a game called Tennis
for Two was created by William Ginbotham and Robert Dvorak. Afterward for people began and
started to explore video games. In 1962 Space War was created by Steve Russle but was never

Smallpox Vaccines Essay
The world is full of dangers some seen while others slip right under the radar until it is too late.
According to the Merriam Webster online dictionary a vaccine is, a preparation of killed
microorganisms, living attenuated organisms, or living fully virulent organisms that is
administered to produce or artificially increase immunity to a particular disease. Before the
invention of vaccines, the immune systemwas left fighting a losing battle against some of mankind s
worst enemies, but with the help of vaccines humans have a tool to strengthen their immune system
and fight back against these unseen killers. Vaccines defeat deadly viruses, strengthen society, and
change lives.
Invented by an English physician, Jenner Edwards, in 1796 vaccines have come to defeat many
deadly viruses. Through experimentation and hard work, Jenner created the first vaccine for the
deadly smallpox virus. Jenner spent much of his life researching and experimenting to find a way
to beat smallpox, and in 1796 from the teats of cows Jenner invented the first effective smallpox
vaccine. After infecting children with a small amount of cowpox, Jenner discovered that the
children built up an immunity to the otherwise deadly smallpox virus (Helicon). Before Jenner s
invention of vaccines disease ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

The Effects Of Obesity On American Adults And Children
The Effects of Obesity Obesity is on the rise in American adults and children. Over 78.6 million
Americans are considered obese (CDC, 2014). Health experts believe the obesity crisis has
become an epidemic that needs to be controlled. Today many efforts are being made by Federal
and state governments and some major companies to combat obesity in adults and children. For
example, some major companies are rewarding employees with cash incentives for exercising
regularly and maintaining a healthy weight. The federal government has even considered
imposing a fat tax on unhealthy food and beverages to help in the fight against obesity. In this
paper I will discuss if the argument that obesity is an epidemic is sound, if a person s weight
should be a topic of public discussion, and my own personal view of how obesity should be
addressed. Is obesity an epidemic? An epidemic is defined by Merriam Webster Dictionary as
affecting or tending to affect a disproportionately large number of individuals within a
population, community, or region at the same time (Merriam Webster Dictionary, 2014). Obesity
has been labeled as an epidemic because of the shocking increase in obesity cases; especially
among young children. Adult obesity rates have doubled since 1980, from 15 to 30 percent, while
childhood obesity rates have more than tripled. The spike in obesity cases has been seen in
developed as well as developing countries. The fact that people spend more time doing sedentary

Essay on The Past and Future of Cuban Foreign Relations
Cuban politics has long been defined by foreign relations. One of the charges of the revolutionary
leaders Fidel Castro and Che Guevara against Fulgencio Batista was his support from the United
States of America. Batista was part of a military coup in 1933, and became President himself by
election in 1940. His party lost the next election in 1944 after which he lived in the U.S., gaining
allies. On his return to Cubain 1952 he led a second coup to end an election which he was losing.
His government was quickly recognized by the U.S., giving him legitimacy, which he turned into
unopposed electoral victory in 1954. His regime was characterized by relationship both with the
U.S. government and with the American Mafia. He faced almost... Show more content on

had supplied enough weaponry to massively militarize Cuba it still has one of the largest militaries
in the region. Although Dr LleГі was followed as President by Osvaldo DorticГіs, another relatively
moderate technocrat, Fidel Castro was Prime Minister and clearly in control of policy. In 1976,
Fidel Castro officially became President.
Four factors defined hostility between the U.S. and Cuba. First is the Bay of Pigs invasion,
where in 1961 a small force of Cuban exiles, backed by the U.S., returned to recapture Cuba with
disastrous results. The Bay of Pigs was a disaster for all sides. The U.S., which failed to provide
promised air support, lost the trust of the Cuban exile community and was embarrassed
internationally. The Cuban government naturally responded by strengthening economic and
military ties with the U.S.S.R.. Second is Operation Mongoose along with other covert C.I.A.
programs to assassinate Fidel Castro and destabilize the Cuban government. Like the Bay of Pigs,
these programs were a complete disaster. At least eight assassination attempts on Fidel Castro,
including poisonous cigars, failed only strengthening Fidel s hold on power and his aura of
invincibility. Combined with the Bay of Pigs, Operation Condor fostered a somewhat justified
culture and rhetoric of paranoia in the Cuban government. To this day, the totalitarian oppression of
dissidents is

  • 6. The Restoration Of Grecian Philosophical Documents The Preservation of Grecian Philosophical Documents Was an Important Islamic Contribution to Western Civilization Islamic preservation and translation of the Greek philosophical works of Aristotle, and Plato contributed to the flourishing of Western civilization. Under the direction of Islamic cultural patrons, they translated these vital texts from Greek into other languages. Such actions were significantly contributive to the revival and transmission of these pieces, bringing about their subsequent spread throughout Europe. Centuries of Islamic scholarship like this were crucial to the eventual emergence of the European Renaissance Period. The anterior exposure of the Arab world to Greek philosophy follows paths reaching back to the sixth century C.E. A common occurrence among Judaism, Christianity, and Islam, were their interactions with Greek philosophy, and their attempts to reconcile their religious dogmas with the Greek philosophical known truths of reason; trying to marry faith with reason. Commonalities between their interactions produced a naturally occurring process of sharing respective religious and philosophical problems, and it is in the latter that Islamic philosophers deserve much credit from Judaism and Christianity, for the Abbasid caliphate s deference to translation and preservation of key Aristotelian (and other) works long lost to the West. The irony of this sharing between religions remains that each was using the similar material to try and prove ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

In a joint study with Deakin University, Australia, and University of Waterloo, Ontario Canada, students analyzed increases in lipid metabolism gene expression in human skeletal muscle tissue after exercise training. Looking at previous studies, endurance exercise elicits increased metabolism of fatty acids (FA) and carbohydrates, in relation with the metabolismof FA it has been shown that up regulated genes exhibit their corresponding proteins to transport, initiate, bind, and increase enzyme activity in response to exercise. Therefore the hypothesis is that certain genes will show expression and the expression of the corresponding proteins will be more abundant after acute exercise and after an individual has gone through a short term... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Once samples were obtained they were placed in liquid nitrogen, once ready for testing of the sample the researchers used Real Time PCR and corresponding lab chemicals and procedures to get results of gene expression. In addition to the muscle biopsy they tested VO2 peak, blood glucose and lactose levels, and heart rate exchange. These results were used to analyze fat oxidation. After the nine day exercise bout the initial FA oxidation had increased in the skeletal muscle by 24%. This increase equates to be 4.5 g of oxidized fat. The analysis of the results shows gene expression when measured after acute exercise showed no significant change in FA uptake and breakdown in the (FABP), and (FAT CD36) genes. It also had no significant change in the corresponding transcription factors. These results are from the biopsies obtained directly after exercise and 3 hours after exercise on the first day of exercise. The results differed when analysis of the biopsies were obtained on the ninth day after the exercise routine had ended. This also was tested one and three hours after exercise had stopped. The results showed that there was in increase in FAT CD36 and CPT I genes. This shows that there is a direct relationship with exercise training and the genes responsible for FA being taken across plasma membrane (FAT CD36) and also for transport gene transporting across the mitochondrial membrane (CPT l). These results show that that the researchers treatment for the study ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In his Preface, Wordsworth claims that the principle objective of his poetry was, to choose incidents and situations from common life, and to relate or describe them, throughout, as far as was possible in a selection of language really used by men, and, at the same time, to throw over them a certain coloring of imagination, whereby ordinary things should be presented to the mind in an unusual aspect. (294) The Victorian approach to knowledge which took on the form of large scale surveys, like Mr. Casaubon s Key to All Mythologies, and factual explorations of absolute truths, like Dr. Lydgate s practice of medicinal research. Unlike these grandiose projects, Wordsworth and Ladislaw stand for an exploration of the world through human understanding. In explaining the nature of his work, Ladislaw tells Dorothea that being a poet is having the kind of soul in which knowledge passes instantaneously into feeling, and feeling flashes back as a new organ of knowledge (142). In stating this, Eliot is in direct conversation with Wordsworth s claim regarding the objective of the Romantic poet. The Romantics believed that the physical nature of objects was intrinsically attached to the effect they had on the perceiver and the true pursuit of knowledge didn t discount either of these two aspects. Several studies have reported a significantly increased mortality in critically ill human patients with hyperchloremia or hypochloremia, raising the concern that abnormal chlorideconcentrations may have clinical significance. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Function of chloride ions: In the 1990s, the effect of chloride on the acid base balance was thoroughly studied as a physiochemical approach, called the Stewart approach. With the Stewart approach, chloride is a key determinant of the strong ion difference (SID), one of the three independent variables to determine the acid base status (the two other independent variables are the partial pressure of carbon dioxide and the total weak acid concentration). Strong ion difference (SID) = ([Na+] + [K+] + [Ca2+] + [Mg2+]) ([Cl ] + unmeasured strong anions*) Formula (a) *Unmeasured strong anions: lactate, acetoacetate, ОІ hydroxybutyrate, sulfate, etc Normal SID will depend on the laboratory but is generally in the range of 30 to 40 mmol/L. Quantitatively, changes in the strong ion concentrations leading to a decreased SID will result in acidosis with increased hydrogen ion concentration whereas changes leading to an increased SID will result in alkalosis, with decreased hydrogen ion concentration. At constant concentrations of sodium and other strong ions, a decrease in the chloride concentration increases SID and causes hypochloremic alkalosis, whereas an increase in the chloride concentration decreases SID and causes hyperchloremic acidosis. The chloride ion is, therefore, important because of its independent role in acid base regulation. Besides regulating acid base balance, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

When Ellington s drummer Sonny Greer joined the Wilber Sweatman Orchestra in New York City, he decided to leave behind his successful career in Washington, D.C and moved to Harlem. The already existing social order influenced the nationalist movement, and the leaders being chosen. India developed a federal government, with three legislative lists of power. Of course like any professional career, ethical issues can appear, but the issues found in the tech industry are not always found in the office area. Many of the issues developers face are outside of the office area and out in the field. The type of issues I am addressing is computercrimes, computer failures, protection and theft of software, and the corruption of privacy and company property. Developers face the challenge of protecting their programs from being misused and making sure that the programs are safe for users. Two cases that show these types of dilemmas are the Therac 25case and the infamous Target hack of 2013. Ronald Reagan and Communism Ronald Reagan and Communism Introduction Critics remarked that Ronald Reagan tended to perceive things in terms of black and white, and his attitude toward Soviet concerns was no different. The organizing principle of Reagan s defense and foreign polices was anti Communism, and Soviet policy to him pervaded every part of the globe. Each of Reagan s predecessors, from 1945 onwards, had been occupied with the possible Soviet threat towards America but Reagan was obsessed with it. Unlike his predecessors, too, he saw no possibility of compromise with the USSR, simply discounting communism as a sad, bizarre chapter in human history whose last pages are even now being written (Dallek, 129). Interestingly enough, Harper s editor Lewis H. Lapham commented that Reagan s anti Soviet rhetoric may have reflected concerns about his own country. America was suffering from big government, atheism, and relaxed moral standards. America saw in the USSR what it most fears in itself... Americans portray [it] as a monolithic prison, a dull and confined place where nobody is safe and nobody is free. The America of the 1980s portrayed Russia as a land of coarse commissars and exploited peasants where cruel ideologies bent on world domination flourished and produced victims of a repressive and greedy government. How different does this sound to capitalist America of Reaganism? Indeed, Lapham concluded that Americans aim at the targets of their own despotism. (quoted by Scheer, 148 149). ... Some parents think that banning books is the only to deal with their children around touchy subjects, when, in reality, sitting down and talking with their children would have been not only easier, but more effective, too. Books are banned for a multitude of reasons, many of which most people do not agree upon. His son, on the other hand, was the unprepared tsar, whose actions were literally reactions to his father s unexpected assassination. Consequently, Alexander II went down in history as much more productive in the field of domestic policy; in dealing with revolutionaries; and in his foreign policy than his son Alex III would ever be. 1855 was a tough time for Alexander II to take the throne. Over 78.6 million Americans are considered obese (CDC, 2014). Health experts believe the obesity crisis has become an epidemic that needs to be controlled. Today many efforts are being made by Federal and state governments and some major companies to combat obesity in adults and children. For example, some major companies are rewarding employees with cash incentives for exercising regularly and maintaining a healthy weight. The federal government has even considered imposing a fat tax on unhealthy food and beverages to help in the fight against obesity. In this paper I will discuss if the argument that obesity is an epidemic is sound, if a person s weight should be a topic of public discussion, and my own personal view of how obesity should be addressed. Is obesity an epidemic? An epidemic is defined by Merriam Webster Dictionary as affecting or tending to affect a disproportionately large number of individuals within a population, community, or region at the same time (Merriam Webster Dictionary, 2014). • 53. Essay on The Past and Future of Cuban Foreign Relations Cuban politics has long been defined by foreign relations. One of the charges of the revolutionary leaders Fidel Castro and Che Guevara against Fulgencio Batista was his support from the United States of America. Batista was part of a military coup in 1933, and became President himself by election in 1940. His party lost the next election in 1944 after which he lived in the U.S., gaining allies. On his return to Cubain 1952 he led a second coup to end an election which he was losing. His government was quickly recognized by the U.S., giving him legitimacy, which he turned into unopposed electoral victory in 1954. Although Dr LleГі was followed as President by Osvaldo DorticГіs, another relatively moderate technocrat, Fidel Castro was Prime Minister and clearly in control of policy. In 1976, Fidel Castro officially became President. Four factors defined hostility between the U.S. and Cuba. First is the Bay of Pigs invasion, where in 1961 a small force of Cuban exiles, backed by the U.S., returned to recapture Cuba with disastrous results. The Bay of Pigs was a disaster for all sides. The U.S., which failed to provide promised air support, lost the trust of the Cuban exile community and was embarrassed internationally. The Cuban government naturally responded by strengthening economic and military ties with the U.S.S.R.. Second is Operation Mongoose along with other covert C.I.A. programs to assassinate Fidel Castro and destabilize the Cuban government. Like the Bay of Pigs, these programs were a complete disaster. At least eight assassination attempts on Fidel Castro, including poisonous cigars, failed only strengthening Fidel s hold on power and his aura of invincibility. Combined with the Bay of Pigs, Operation Condor fostered a somewhat justified culture and rhetoric of paranoia in the Cuban government. To this day, the totalitarian oppression of dissidents is ...
