Gangs and Organized Crime in the United States
Gangs and Organized Crime in the United States Criminal Justice Janaree Nagel 10/15/2011
Gangs and Organized Crime in the United States is on the rise. With the increase in turf wars,
position and the financial gains, gang wars and Organized Crime are linked together in many
ways. Within this paper, I will show how they are all tied together in. The M 13 s are the largest
reported gang controlling large areas of our states. However, the largest area to which the MS 13
s control is within our own capital, Washington D.C. Their leaders rule all the gangs from inside El
Salvador. I will discuss other gangs, and their ties into Organized Crime. Gangs and... Show more

Only when this social bond is weakened is crime likely to occur. He contended that this social
bond has four elements; Attachment, commitment, involvement and beliefs (Fuller 2006). In
the attachment, when children respect their parents, appreciate all that they do for them, they
are less likely to be involved in criminal activity. However, when they do not have the proper
guidance, lack of concern for their outside activities, they tend to stray, and seek out those who
show concern for them. Often it becomes a role model, a close friend, someone to which they
seek approval from. This becomes their attachment bond. In gangs, this often leads to the higher
authority, a person to which they look up too, to whom they want to become. The level of
commitment involves how far one will go to prove themselves. One is committed to a gang, to
which they consider all members family. People who have money, property, and good
reputations are committed to the social system that allowed them the opportunities for that
success (Fuller 2006). In a gang, being a member of a respected gang, means that they too will
have respect by those outside of the gang, and will often be in fear of your presence. As in the
MS 13, individuals who are quite familiar with this particular gang know that it is a matter of
survival of their own existence to cross a gang member; therefore, the ordinary citizen will be wise
to give way to the member. In the

New Forest Background
Few people realise the important role that the New Forest played in World War II. Its strategic
location on the south coast meant that the New Forest was crucial in a range of operations and
is home to a wide range of World War II installation. Whilst some of these are still visible today,
many have been hidden by soil and vegetation or lost during land management activities. There
where many aspects off the war that happened in the new forest, there main operations the the
new forest played a big part in was the fact they had many airfields, along with airfields they
played a part in the D day landings and the new forest is home to a bombing range. Stoney Cross
airfield was one of the larger wartime airfields within the New Forest, and was active between the
years 1943 to 1946, with post war activities continuing until its closure in 48. From 1944 onwards,
Stoney Cross changed role from being a major fighter and bomber base to playing host to Transport

Away from the airfield site on a tree covered hill the remains of Battle Headquarters can still be

royal air force and USA air forces. At Ibsley it was home to typhoons and spitfires, Beaulieu
mainly hosted bomber and fighter planes and Stoney Cross dealt with aircraft carries and
squadrons. Despite having many airfields, the new forest was home to many decoy sites, these
proved very useful especially at night time a when the Germans tried to bomb the airfields, they
made the decoy sites very bright this drew the bombers attention to these sites so they dropped
there bombs on plain fields instead of on planes and citizens. These decoys sites are at Denney

Edward Jenner s Disease
The scientist I decided to write about is Edward Jenner who lived from 1749 1823. He was born
in Berkeley, Gloucestershire, England (The Jenner Institute, 2015). His father was a preacher
and died when Edward was five years old, orphaning Edward (Famous Scientists, 2015, Riedel,
2005). He went to school in Wotton under Edge and Cirencester (The Jenner Institute, 2015).
While he was attending school, his older brother inoculated him for a disease called smallpox
when he was only eight years (Adler, 2004, The Jenner Institute, 2015). When Jenner was 14
years old, he studied under a surgeon, Daniel Ludlow, for 7 years where he learned about surgical
and medical practice (The Jenner Institute, 2015, Riedel, 2005). In the year 1770 at the age of...

Using this knowledge, Jenner determined that cowpox could be transferred from person to
person as an instrument of protection against smallpox. In 1796, Edward Jenner came in contact
with a dairymaid named Sarah Nelmes. Nelmes had cowpox and had lesions on her arms and
hands. Jenner transferred some fluid from her lesions and inoculated an 8 year old boy with it.
The boy ended up getting a mild fever and felt some discomfort, was cold and lost his appetite,
but recovered after about 10 days (Riedel, 2005). A month later, Jenner inoculated the same boy
with fresh fluid from a smallpox pustule. The boy developed a few pustules but did not get the
disease. (Adler, 2004). Jenner concluded that the boy was protected against smallpox and that he
had just discovered a way to prevent the disease (Riedel,

Differences Between Winter And Winter
There are three main similarities between the novel and the film. First, The dress same dress

Mrs. Danvers left Mrs. De Winter looks at the picture for few time, Then she wear the dress and

The three remarkable similarities are the Rebecca s dress that De Winter wear it, The
Manderley house was burned by Mrs. Danvers hand, and lastly the character of Mrs. Danvers is
evil and ungodly. In addition, there are perspicuous differences, which are the place De Winter
goes off to after having breakfast. Feeling of Mrs. De Winter is emotionally in the film more
than the novel. The incident that takes place in the morning room. In my opinion, the movie is
more enjoyable because of the events is more clear and it allows viewer to understand. I think
people will enjoy the film if they watch it instead to the novel, because it is too boring novel. I

The Use Of Literary Devices In A Separate Peace By John...
Literary devices are tools and techniques of language that authors use to send a message to the
readers. In A Separate Peace John Knowles uses, extended metaphor, foreshadowing, imagery and
many other literary devices that give more depths, emotions to the characters, plot and theme in the
book. The devices are used by authors to keep the reader more engaged in the novel. A great use of
literary devices brings richness, clarity, insight and understanding of the text. Foreshadowing is
used to warn or indicate an event in the future, extended metaphor is used to compare the
difference between two things which continues throughout a series of sentences . Verbal irony is a
figure of speech in which what is said is the opposite what is... Show more content on

This approach to irony can help the readers to gain more insight about each of the character s
personalities. In A Separate Peace Gene knew that summer was officially over when Finny fell
from the tree. That proved that the rules at Devon were there for a reason, If you broke the rules,
then they broke you (66). The meaning of the verbal irony is that with every action you take
there are consequences. External conflict is an effective way to build suspense in the novel
which keeps the reader turning pages. An external conflict is found is A Separate Peace that Gene
encounters, he gets into a brief fight with Cliff Quackenbush after returning from his break and
visiting his injured friend, Finny. Gene shows up late at the crew house and Cliff chides him
about his tardiness and makes condescending comments, I hit him hard across the face... I tried to
throw him off, he lunged at the same time, and we catapulted into the water (79). Gene most likely
losses his temper with Quakenbush because of his inner struggle with guilt. In fact, Quackenbush
is the opposite of Finny, and as Gene had to deal with the crew leader s attitude and comments, it
reminds Gene even more of Finny s absence. Gene is also showing some resilience just like Finny

Criticism Of The Media In Gone Girl And The Braindead...
Are politicians or even newscasters trustworthy enough to present newsworthy material? Whether
it s about politics, an investigation, or a criminal trial, a person must critically analyze the
information that s being laid out in front of them before they should make any form of judgment
based off what is presented. Criticism of the media is an important aspect of Gone Girl and The
Braindead Megaphone. In both literary works, media is represented or described as subjective and
storytellingpursuant which can end up being dangerous in some situations, and is prevalent in the
real worlds postmodern broadcasting.
Subjectivism seems to be an issue with today s information that is being presented to the ill
informed population through various ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The jury could have been swayed by the non objective facts that they might have seen Ellen present
on her broadcast.
Later in the book, Nick talks about his feelings and thoughts about Amy (Flynn 302 303). The
public may view it as true even though there isn t any actual evidence of Nick s feelings about
her (Flynn 302 303). These things aren t easy to physically prove so the public would have to
take Nicks word if they decide to believe him and see the situation from his viewpoint. In other
words, he s able to subjectively manipulate the situation to better his circumstances. The possible
outcome of this information being reported isn t necessarily destructive, even though it s
psychologically manipulating material. The presentation of this information would mainly have
an effect as to how the public may perceive Nick. Another characteristic of media that is
portrayed in Gone Girl and described in The Braindead Megaphone is Storytelling. George
Saunders defines storytelling as the idea that we shape or build our knowledge of a subject based
off a simulacrum or representation of it that is provided by the mass media (9). In The Braindead
Megaphone, the individual with the megaphone (anybody communicating to the outside world)
becomes a storyteller/simulacra builder for the happening (9). Storytelling could be destructive if the

Operations of Airlines
The world commercial airline industry is one of the most diverse, dynamic and perplexing in the
world (Globale Airline Industry Program). The airports are exceptionally complex facilities and
highly renowned for the variety of services and resources it provides to both the airlines and its
users. Airlines and airports are inextricably intertwined together and none of them can survive
without the other. The aviation industry is growing at an exponential rate. The demands for an
effective and efficient ground handling system became the fundamental standards in successful
aircraft operation and increase in airlineimage. The directives adopted by the 15 member states are

Introduction of decentralised airports reduced walking distance from one terminal to another. Even
to a point where passengers who opted to fly in one individual carrier didn t have to walk miles
and miles to get to their carriers terminal. For example Dallas fort Worth international airport
consists of five terminals each offer their own parking areas and a short distance walk from the
car park to the terminal. On the marketing side the aviation industry became more and more
competitive. Airlines fare prices have risen and declined. Carriers adopted strategic approaches
to out compete with other airlines by introducing low cost carriers as well as maintaining their
full service carriers. Not only airlines opted new strategies in making profit airports as well
started to increase their revenues by charging aircraft parking fees, landing fees, air traffic charges,
handling services and fuel taxes to the airlines to make up payments for infrastructure costs and
other internal services costs. Safety record and providing top quality services to passenger and
airlines establishes the basis of well operated airport system.
Airports are regarded one of the most prominent facilities in the world, thus any terrorist attacks
would deal unspeakable damages to the country and lose of citizens lives. Governments rely heavily
on airport generating tourist revenues, if any vicious attacks

The Great Gossip Girl By F. Scott Fitzgerald
Abbi Kopf
1.7.16
The Great Gossip Girl
A young man desperately battling society, wealth, and rich obnoxious friends in order to win the
heart of the perfect girl...is this the story of The Great Gatsby, or the CW s Gossip Girl? Both,
actually: the hit TV show mirrors Fitzgerald s most famous work through parallel themes and
characters. Cynical subjects such as doomed love and corruption of the upper class play a major
part in both works, as well as the story of fight to surmount class and poverty. This story actually
played out a couple of times over the course of Gossip Girl s intensely dramatic six seasons, but
most notably between Dan Humphrey and Serena Van Der Woodsen. Dan Humphrey was the
James Gatz of Gossip Girl, still struggling to become Jay Gatsby. He had a nice life with his father
and sister in Brooklyn, but always dreamed about something greater. When Nick finally told the
reader Gatsby s true origin story, he said, he invented just the sort of Jay Gatsby that a seventeen
year old boy would be likely to invent, and to this conception he was faithful to the end (p.104).
Dan and Gatsby both had an idealized, or Platonic, view of themselves and the way their lives
would turn out, and they would stop at nothing to get it. Dan created and used Gossip Girl as a
way to get into Serena s world just Gatsby used Nick to get Daisy back. Both men saw their
dream girl as all the money and glamour and fame that they wanted distilled into one person, a
person whose voice

similarities between the two pieces regarding content and meaning. In addition to the similarities of
these two pieces, there are also some differences regarding the artists, the creation process of the
pieces, and the technical aspects that make up the paintings. Similarities and differences can be

General Franco accepted aid from currently fascist governments, such as those of Hitler and
Mussolini, in exchange for the allowance of Hitler s Nazis to practice their aerial warfare
against the inhabitants of Guernica. On April 28, 1937, the German Nazis air bombed the town
of Guernica, which is the old Basque capital in Spain. As a result, the civilians of Guernica were
left with a destroyed town and the massacre of numerous inhabitants. At the time of this event,
Picasso was working in Paris and was commissioned by his government to paint a mural for the
Spanish Pavilion of the Paris World s Fair. Guernica was completed in a short time following the
bombing of Guernica. Picasso did not allow Guernica to be displayed in Spain while General
Franco was in power, which led to the portrayal of the painting at the Museum of Modern Art in
New York. After General Franco was stripped of his power, the painting made its way back to
Spain to be displayed in Madrid, the Spanish capital. The Basque Nationalist Movement, who

The Horror Of A Horror Movie And Me
A few months ago, I brought a horror film to life. The only difference between the main character
of a horror movie and me is, the main character can run. Looking at the real world through the
dream world seems impossible, but sleep paralysis can do that and so much more. The most
terrifying night of my life started as I was just falling asleep. I could feel my body giving in to
the night and my eyelids becoming heavy, however they maintained open against my will. To
maybe shake myself out of it, I tried to force myself to sit up; seeing how my legs did not
respond to my brains request, I attempted to try a simpler task, like moving my fingers. Nothing
was happening, not a muscle would budge. I wanted to yell for help but my mouth was glued
shut and my vocal chords had failed me. In less than a second I lost all control over my physical
self. For all I had known, I had become a vegetable for the rest of my life. My heart was sinking.
As if things were not already horrible enough, I began to feel an evil presence in my bedroom.
When I looked up, standing directly in front of me was a girl who was staring at me so
intensely, it was as if she was burning holes through me. I quickly recognized that she was no
one other than myself. Everything about her was like me, even the way her lips curved slightly
downward. Her posture and demeanor, however, made her look like she was demonized. Afraid
for my life, I asked her multiple times if she was being possessed by some supernatural

Thorntons, a more than 100 years old UK brand, is now the largest British chocolate manufacturer
and retailer in this country. This chocolate specialist mainly targets at premium chocolate market,
retailing mostly through both its own shops and franchise. To diversify Thorntons business into
Chinese and Indian high end chocolate market, Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) is recommended
for a better control of brand image. Besides, Thorntons is recommended to import UK made highly
premium chocolate to retail by its subsidiaries in these two countries.
Therefore, this report will evaluate the recommendation through three criteria: market
attractiveness, international trading possibility, and FDI feasibility, from three aspects of politics,
economics, and socio culture environment in these two host countries.

Lord of the Flies by William Golding and Rosseau
Golding and Rousseau brought two different ideas using Lord of the Flies. They make you really
think on what they are trying to prove. You can agree with either of them but people have their
own opinions. Golding and Rousseau disagreed with each other s opinions on how human nature
becomes evil. If I had to choose whose opinion I agree with, then I would choose
Rousseau s.
Rousseau s beliefs regarding human nature were that people are not born evil. He believes that
people are good and act the way they want to. He does not believe that anyone can never be evil
without something causing them to be. He believes that when someone is evil or makes bad
decisions, it is because they are corrupted by society. People in society makes someone desire
something that us past the level of good to meet their needs which is by something bad. Written
by Rousseau, Let us conclude that, being self sufficient and subject to so few passions, he could
have no feeling or knowledge but such as befitted his situation. I believe that his statement is
explaining that when someone desires something so bad, they would do anything not even
realizing what they may be doing is wrong which helps them get what they want. It makes them
think that it is okay. Rousseau claimed that people who are born evil are ill or mental. Golding s
beliefs on human nature was mostly opposite of Rousseau s beliefs. Golding believed that
everyone is born badly and are naturally evil. He believed that people

The individual operations have a responsibility to operate as efficiently as possible to return

The Relationship Between Holmes and Watson Sherlock Holmes and Dr. Watson have been seen as

anything that meets the eye; they mean more to each other than just a business partner or friend.
Some have seen their relationship as anything from that of best friends, to homosexual lovers, or to
heterosexual lovers as seen between a male Holmes and a female Watson. Whether these statements
can be proven or not remains a facet controlled by the reader, but several other useful implications
can be drawn from their relationship. No matter what Watson and Holmes mean to each other, both

Difference Between Modern And Mendeleev Periodic Table
Over so many years the periodic table has changed in many years. In the modern periodic table
the elements are arranged in order of increasing atomic numbers. In mendeleev s periodic table
they were in arranged in order of increasing atomic weight. The difference in the modern and
mendeleev periodic table n 1869, just five years after John Newlands put forward his law of
octaves, a Russian chemist called Dmitri Mendeleev published a periodic table. Mendeleev also
arranged the elements known at the time in order of relative atomic mass, but he did some other
things that made his table much more successful. In the modern periodic there are families and
periods.there are seven horizontal rows of elements called periods. The vertical columns of
elements are called groups, or families. The Matrix. Mendeleev s periodic table presented a new
paradigm, with all of the elements positioned within a logical matrix..
Mendeleev had written the properties of elements on pieces of card and tradition has it that after
organising the cards while playing patience he suddenly realised that by arranging the element
cards in order of increasing ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Sometimes this method of arranging elements meant there were gaps in his horizontal rows or
periods . But instead of seeing this as a problem, Mendeleev thought it simply meant that the
elements which belonged in the gaps had not yet been discovered. He was also able to work out
the atomic mass of the missing elements, and so predict their properties. And when they were
discovered, Mendeleev turned out to be right. For example, he predicted the properties of an
undiscovered element that should fit below aluminium in his table. When this element, called
gallium, was discovered in 1875, its properties were found to be close to Mendeleev s predictions.
Two other predicted elements were later discovered, lending further credit to Mendeleev s

How Billing Current Week + 2 Fortnightly Frequency works?
This video will introduce how current week + 2 fortnightly frequency billing cycle works.
Regarding the billing cycle name, obviously, guardians will pay the current fee and the following 2
weeks fee after the current week in advance.
Now, let me tell you the details.
Assume you start on week 0, usually, the child care centre will submit the attendance for the
week just gone, that is to say, the centre will submit week 0 attendance to Government CCMS.
Then CCMS will calculate the CCB, CCR JFA rebates for week 0 over the weekend. On
Saturday on week 0, guardians will receive the 1st invoice for the payment, and the amount on the
invoice is estimated gap fee (after CCB, CCR JFA calculation) for the upcoming 3 weeks based on
the week 0 attendance. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
On Monday, the payment gateway provider will deduct the amount on the invoice from guardians

rebates into the centre s bank account. On Thursday, the payment gateway provider will pay the
week1 to 3 gap fee which is charged on Monday to the centre s bank account. On Friday, the centre
will submit the attendance to CCMS for the week (week 1) just gone again. Then, CCMS will
calculate the week 1 rebates based on the submitted attendance during the weekend. Because
guardians are on fortnightly frequency, they won t receive any invoice on the weekend and they

Advertisements Analysis Essay
I collected advertisements from different magazine and interest sources. I used three magazines to
review and collect advertisements from. The magazines are called Watch, Discover Beauty Within,
and Seventeen. Watch magazine is a lifestyle magazine entertainment, fashion and beauty
magazine. This magazine gives audience a look into the world of celebrities and style through the
celebrity s perspective. The magazinecontains interviews and photo shoots of celebrities. Discover
Beauty Within is a beauty magazine launched by Walgreens that provides tips, tricks and coupons
exclusively to shoppers at Walgreens. Seventeen magazine is a fashion magazine that consist of
fashion, beauty, dating, and health tips. The magazines varied from teens, adult magazine and
beauty. I used six internet sources for additional advertisements online. I used four different blogs,
Victoria Secret, and CBS network. The selection of magazines and internet sources targeted women
of different ages and topics. A significant amount of the sources for women seem to have the same
subject matter, such as beauty, fashion, relationship advice, and celebrities.
In the first ad we have an ad for a Metro bus where a women is trying to engage another one in a
conversation. However the other women is not interested and responds with can we just talk about
shoes . The ad reinforces the stereotype that women are not smart or intelligent enough to want to
discuss things outside of the typecast gender role

Phoenix Railroad City
When you hear Phoenix many things may come to mind. The heat, the large suburban population,
the Suns. Trains, however, are something that most people don t think about when they hear
Phoenix. By all means, Phoenix is not a railroad city. However, while Phoenix may not be the
railroad capital of the country, we do have a very rich history with the railroads.
The picture to your right may be new to you. It might be a familiar sight. What is it? Well, it s
obviously a train station, but which one? It s not San Diego s Union Station. It s not the Tucson or
Albuquerque Amtrak stations. Although it might be surprising to think about, this station is the
Phoenix Union Station! To those who have lived in Phoenix before 1996, when Amtrak
discontinued service, this may not be all too surprising. However, for us post 96 transplants, the
thought of an Amtrak train, and for that matter any passenger train, traveling through the Phoenix
Metro is a weird and humorous thought. Yet, for twenty years now, Phoenix has been the largest
city in the United States without passenger service. Amtrak had rerouted the Sunset Limited after

Investigators had found several ties were pulled up and that the track s circuit system was tampered

Hip Hop And Rap Hop
The genre that I am going to select is Hip Hop/Rap. The 5 top ten from the 80s are The Message
by Grandmaster Flash and the Furious Five, Self Destruction by KRS One and the Stop the
Violence Movement, Push It by Salt N Pepa, I m Bad by LL Cool J, Fight The Power by Public
Enemy, Straight Out Of Compton by NWA. The 5 top ten from 2015 are Know Yourself by
Drake, Trap Queen by Fetty Wap, Alright by Kendrick Lamar, Blessings by Big Sean Featuring
Drake, and Feeling Myself by Nicki Minaj featuring BeyoncГ©. In my opinion, there is a very
distinct difference between Hip Hop and Rap and it is definitely heard in the music throughout the
decades. Hip Hop is a sub culture that speaks out against social issues and injustice against the
African American population. Rap music, on the other hand, is popular pop culture, consumer
commercialism, and mainstream media. Pop culture has a strong influence on the social
construction of gender because images from pop culture convey powerful messages about gender
stereotyped, especially regarding women s appearance. The message of love, sex, and
relationships can be heard in both Hip Hop and Rap and throughout the decades as well. Hip Hop
artist such as Grandmaster Flash, KRS One, and Public Enemy lyrics spoke a strong social message
that told the truth about living in poverty and had a cultural impact and unification of people from
different societies. Family is all inclusive during this decade. In my opinion, family includes

Essay about Tom Stoppard s Rosencrantz and Guildenstern...
Tom Stoppard s Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are Dead Tom Stoppard s Rosencrantz and
Guildenstern are Dead, a humorous piece of self reflexive theater that draws upon Shakespeare
s Hamlet as the source of the story. The actual device of self reflexive theater is used so well in
Stoppard s play that it reads like the love child of a play and a compelling critical essay. The play
is academic yet conversationally phrased and it deepens our understanding of the original play but
also criticizes it. The aspect of self reflexive theater is used to comment on theater itself but also
as a presentation of ideas and analysis that had previously had no place on the plot centric set up of
stage and audience. The essay Rosencrantz and... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
They go through the key plot points of Hamlet culminating in this noteworthy exchange: ROS. To
sum up: your father, whom you love, dies, you are his heir, you come back to find that hardly was
the corpse cold before his young brother popped onto the throne and into his sheets, thereby
offending both legal and natural practice. Now why exactly are you behaving in this extraordinary
manner? GUIL. I can t imagine!
Stoppard is commentating on Shakespeare s writing, by portraying onstage the ignorance that
is required of the characters for the original plot of Hamlet to work. The meat of the scene isn t
to insult the duo, but for the critically inclined audience to analyze the sort of logical leaps we
take in order to participate in a narrative. The traditional outlet for such observations were
academic journals and essays but Stoppard is exhibits these ideas onstage for a mass audience.
The Player exemplifies my point (bloated and wriggling as it is) of the unique space that
Stoppard is trying to occupy with the play. The Player is at once detached and involved in the
happenings onstage (textual evidence? How about on page 25 when Guildenstern and the Player
discuss fate. Guildenstern asks Yours [fate] or ours? The Player answers It could hardly be one
without the other ). The Player, in my opinion, diffuses

demonstrates many aspects of religion, traditions, customs, and other things. A tattoo can mean
anything to anybody. People can say all the negative things about them, but the evolution of tattoos
is actually different from their expectations. The origins of tattooing dates back to nearly 5,000
years. The first people to ever have tattoos were mummies. Over the years, archaeologists have

Most of what we know about the culture comes from artifacts taken from shaft tombs usually by
tomb raiders including examples of heavily tattooed hollow ceramic figurines. Some scholars
believe the figurines depict gods, while Christopher Beekman of the University of Colorado
Denver suspects that they may in fact represent the people with whom they were buried. Certainly
the designs were intended to communicate identity and status, particularly considering that the
figurines appear to have been used in ceremonial contexts, and also set up in residential areas to be
seen and visited. According to Beekman, it is notable that the tattooing occurs prominently around
the mouth, which may refer, as it does in Classic Maya society, to the breath of life or the capacity
of polished speech of these

Living The Split Of Sons And Daughters
Living the Split Sons and daughters; the differences between them is more than just a physical
apperance. They are treated differently, not only by society, but also in their own household.
While parents may not realize it, they treat their sons and daughters different whether it be late
night curfews, work ethic or a difference in atmosphere. One of the clearest differences is curfew.
Parents often restrict a daughter s freedoms, one being restricting the possibility of being out
late due to fear of danger. The probability of a woman being harassed driving back from a friend s
house or at a concert surrounded by people is highly unlikely, yet, they are still told that they have
to be home and are unable to experience events like a malewould. Males are seen as being stronger
and not in danger of others whereas women are fragile and easy victims. Why is this? The answer
has its roots in early childhooddevelopment. Boys, as a child and young adult, are taught, by their
parents, to treat the girls gently and be rough with other boys. Girls are taught to be sweet,
respectable and, as said before, gentle. Because of the lack of aggression girls experience as a
child, they are seen to be more fragile and in turn, are more likely to be put in a dangerous
situation with little to no self defense. So, because parents teach their kids different traits of gender
as a child, it carries on into early adulthood making the parent believe what they have implemented

types of propaganda have proven to be effective in the past. Celebritytestimonials usually appeal

Stoning Is A Form Of Execution
As most people know, women have been victims of injustice for hundreds of years, but one form of
torture stands out amongst them all in Pakistan. Stoning is a form of capital punishment where a
group of people throw stones at a person until he or she dies, more often women than men. Because
stoning is a lot slower than other forms of execution, it is considered a form of execution by torture.
In other countries like Afghanistan and Iraq, stoninghas been declared illegal, but it is still being
practice extra judicially. In modern times, allegations of stoning are politically sensitive, as in
the case of Iran, which describes such allegations as political propaganda. Stoning still happens
today. There are 15 countries in which stoning is either practiced or authorized by law, even if it
has never been practiced. In Iran, Mauritania, Nigeria (in one third of the country s states),
Pakistan, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Somalia, Sudan, the United Arab Emirates, and Yemen, stoning is a
legal punishment. However, out of these countries, only in Iran, Pakistan and Somalia have
stoning s actually occurred and all instances in Pakistan have occurred outside the legal system.
Stoning is used as a punishment for those who commit adultery. The husband has the honor to
throw the first stone. Her children are also forced to participate. They are allowed to try and
escape, but they are left at a disadvantage because they are buried to their chest, as opposed to men
who are only buried

Fifty seconds after reaching their assigned altitude, Captain Loft required First Officer Stockstill
s assistance in removing the nose wheel indicator light assembly to investigate the likeliness of a
blown light bulb and hence, instructed him to engage the autopilot at 2000 feet. For the next
eighty seconds the plane maintained level flight. Then it dropped one hundred feet (30 m), and
then again flew level for two more minutes, after which it began a descent so gradual it could not
be perceived by the crew. In the next seventy seconds, the plane lost only 250 feet (76 m), but
this was enough to trigger the altitude warning C chord chime located under the engineer s
workstation. The engineer (or Second Officer) had gone below deck following Loft s
instructions, and there was no indication by the pilot s voices recorded on the cockpit voice
recorder (CVR) that the warning chime was acknowledged. In another fifty seconds, the plane was
at half its assigned altitude. The CVR recorded the last few moments of conversation between the
crew, acknowledging the change in altitude: Stockstill: We did something to the altitude. Loft:
What? Stockstill: We re still at 2,000 feet, right? Loft: Hey what s happening here? (NTSB, 1973)

alleviate that debt, some of Gulf s assets could be sold. Keller has to consider the value of Gulf s

Advised Decision A prospective buyer has to consider the motives and financial positions of
other bidders. Kohlberg wants to buyout the company in order to turn it into a private firm.
ARCO has a pretty strict limit in what it can offer because of its highly leveraged position. Even
if a company has the ability to take out a larger loan to make a greater offer, it has to consider the
consequences of doing so. While a company like Socal has unrestricted credit, its decisions as to
how to operate the company after the buyout are very limited. Creating a lot of debt in order to
finance the purchase is a large risk. If the company does not perform well in the future it could
face tremendous loss. In this case, a bid of $80 per share would be appropriate for an un
leveraged company like Socal. This would be enough to win Gulf while still leaving breathing
room for shareholders. Taxes do not need to be considered, because the benefits cancel out the

Electronic games are taking over the world. Computers, which were once used mainly for work

Social media is teeming with casual gamers, playing simple puzzles such as (x) and (y). If
access to a computer is unavailable, it s possible to fill moments of spare time on a

First person shooters, such as Call of Duty, allow individuals to live out stressful, usually military in

Challenge is the source of a term called raging . A player will rage quit, that is, quit the game in
a fit of rage, if the challenge is too difficult, however, challenge is necessary to achieving a sense
of accomplishment. People enjoy challenges for different reasons. Some like to brag about their
feats, others gain a feeling of control over problems they have solved, while still others enjoy
simply knowing what they are capable of. Most computer or video games include two types of
challenge: Player versus environment, and player versus player. In player versus environment, the
focus is to defeat the computer, which is programmed to fight back with algorithms. The computer
does not think, it only does. After figuring out how to beat the computer, the game can become
boring. Player versus player creates an interesting confrontation because the person on the other side
can make unpredictable moves(decisions). Whether the player is satisfied with defeating a program
or another person, the challenge is readily available to either party.
Just as in traditional sports, gaming is social. When attending a sporting event, people will bring

Freeman frequently used Government documents to tell some stories of these men and
sometimes interviews from various articlesto cross reference the amazing heroic rescue stories
of some of the 500 American air men, after most where shot down during the bombings of
German petroleum Fields during Operation Air Bridge. For instance,in the beginning he tells
Mike McKool s story from the summery of the account he provided in Operation Air Bridge,
along with newspapers articles from 1946(48). Than he goes on to tell the story of Thomas

The only down side to his sources is that he didn t personally interview these men, due to the fact
that many aren t around now days. Scope of Events THE FORGOTTEN 500 tells the story of

The two texts, The Afterlife and October Sky, are similar in some ways, but very different in other
ways. To begin with, one similarity I could find between these two texts was how in both stories
there is a character that has to deal with not having a home for themselves due to their parents
leaving them. In October Sky we see how Homer finds were Quentin lives to get help from him to
be able to solve some math equations to prove his innocence. They work together to solve these

The Pros And Cons Of Information Leakage
1.0INTRODUCTION A simple way to understand the term Information Leakage or News Leakage
is the confidential information that is published to the media without any authorization. In other
words, Information or News Leakage could also be an incomplete publication which the
information is only to be published on the given date. This action is totally prohibited in the news
industry. Who is involved in Information or News Leakage? Of course, it is done by the
employees of news companies. They are the ones who have the access to the information but do not
have the power to disclose it to the media. However, in most situations, information leakage is also
often done by the journalists themselves. Reasons being, they might think that leaking an

As stated by NOW Malaysia, in 2015, Malaysia fell two ranks to 54 because of perceived
political interference in the Malaysian Anti Corruption Commission s probe into the RM2.6 billion
that flowed into Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak s personal accounts. If Putrajaya increases
stiffer penalties for divulging information, this could bring it further down in the index, said
Akhbar, as the CPI also measured how governments treated access to information and whistle
blowers. As stated by The Straits Times, Datuk Seri Zahid said he was not ruling out the possibility
that Esscom which is Eastern Sabah Security Command personnel might have leaked vital
information to cross border kidnappers, allowing them to launch attacks in the waters off Sabah,
including abducting a fishing trawler owner on Tuesday. By this is that information leakage about
particular movement can cause a big issue on the society. Leakage of information can lead to
serious matters that can involves national security that can endanger people s

Analysis Of The Movie Gone Girl No One Should Criticize...
Rosamund Pike said, When the eyes are on you for the first time, you can t believe that people
aren t criticizing you, and after her fantastic acting performance as Amy Dunne in Gone Girl no
one should criticize her. Gone Girl is full of brilliant acting by many of the characters, but the
actress that stood out the most to me was Rosamund Pikeas Amy Dunne. The theme of the movie
is that everyone has to conform to some stereotype deemed okay by society in order to be liked.
We all have to put on a face and act to be someone we are not, and Rosamund Pike as Amy Dunne
portrays this beautifully. She is always acting, acting like the cool girl, acting like the victimbut
underneath it she is someone very different; she is not a female stereotype deemed fit by society
but a psychopath. She therefore creates a multidimensional character with many layers.
The first time the audience sees Amy Dunne she is playing the ultimate cool girl. Nick introduces
himself to her at a party and she creates an image of a sexy, mysterious, carefree girl. She has her
hair in an effortless ponytail with stray pieces cascading down her face, which reflects her
personality: laid back and sexy without trying to hard. When they first meet she is witty and
casual, performing the ultimate cool girl stereotype perfectly. As Nick and Amy s relationship
progresses the audience sees more and more of this; she literally embodies the perfect woman. But
when she becomes her real self, it shows

Renewable Energy And Jobs Review 2014
The 2014 renewable energy and jobs review 2014 was completed by The International Renewable
Energy Agency (IRENA). It provides in depth research about the recent trends in renewable energy
employment, prices and investment. These activities have affected job creation across a multi
national spectrum. Each year the growth in this sector generates substantial employment
opportunities.
IRENA estimates that 6.5 million renewable energy jobs were accounted for in 2013. This analysis
also listed the largest employers of renewable energy jobs. These countries include in descending
order:
1)China
2)Brazil
3)United States
4)India
5)Germany
6)Spain
7)Bangladesh

Liquid biofuels represents the next largest number of jobs at 1.45 million. These technologies
include ethanol and biodiesel. There is a heavy emphasis on farming production for this industry
and a large share of employment is found in harvesting various types of feedstock. The United
States is the largest producer of liquid biofuels and Brazil s sugarcane industry is the largest
employer of this segment.
The report also indicated that wind employment remained stable around 0.8 million jobs. There
have been policy changes in several countries that have reduced installation jobs. In other industries
in this market like operations and maintenance, they have experienced a little growth. The
uncertainty about future policies in these various countries has had an impact. This has resulted in
a significant drop in new US installations and caused weak markets in Europe and India. However,
China and Canada have experienced a surge. Form the more than 834,000 jobs, Europe has
accounted for approximately 58,000 of those jobs
Solar heating and cooling has been difficult to assess due to the difficulty and methodology of
information gathering. It is, however, estimated that this industry has employed 0.5 million people
of which about 70% were in China. Since the data availability for solar heating, small hydro and
geothermal is relatively low there has been potential for underestimation of jobs.
The policy predictability, education and training

Algorithmic Game Theory Essay
In algorithmic game theory, it is easy to find the Nash equilibrium if one can derive the default
strategies of each player from the instructions/parameters of the algorithm. It is also not particularly
hard to find the optimal solution to an algorithm either. In algorithmic mechanism design, it would
be the goal of the algorithm designer to fashion the algorithm in such a way that causes the Nash
equilibriumto be the same as the Pareto optimal (or at least close to optimal) result. This would
mean that it would be impossible to make any player better off in the game without hurting another
player at the same time (optimal), while it also being impossible for any one player to improve their
situation by altering only their strategy (Nash equilibrium). It is the goal to make these two
circumstances exist simultaneously.
Next I will discuss my favorite topic regarding algorithmic game theory; the price of anarchy. I
have to admit that the reasons this topic is my favorite are rather ridiculous; the name sounds
really cool, and I like that the concept is also used in economics. Anyhow, the price of anarchy is a
concept that measures how the efficiency of a system is ruined by the participants self centered
actions. (Koutsoupias and Papadimitriou, 1999) Essentially, this is the result of an inefficient set of
equilibrium outputs. If a system is not designed with the users motives in mind, the system is often
ruined by participants who are strategically trying to benefit

Government s Plan Of Action
Government s Plan of Action to Secure Electricity Supply Energy, especially electricity, is
important for economic development. Electricity plays an important role toward economic growth
as it is essential in using pieces of equipment that are used in the manufacturing processes of various
products (ESMAP 8). The increasing population and expanding economy contribute to the increase
in the demand for electricity. Especially in summer, there are many people would like to stay at
home with the air conditioning on rather than having activities outdoors. Currently, China is the
major consumer of electricity because of the huge population and industrial demand. However, the
electricity produced in this country is not enough to supply its needs (Global Energy). The
economic progress could not pursue if there is insufficient amount of energy that any country could
use. Electricity shortage can happen if the available supply in an area cannot meet its demand. If
this situation is prolonged, the price of the electricity might increase. Different countries experience
electricity shortages because of the increasing demand for electricity. As the executive body of a
nation, the government has implemented other strategies to deal with the problem, such as energy
saving methods and restriction of electricity used. These two have their own advantages and
disadvantages, but both have been effective in resolving the electricity shortages. Restricting
electricity use is an effective

Vietnam War Archetype
Imagine being suddenly drafted to war, not prepared for the death and horror. Young, confused,
scared, naГЇve. During the Vietnam War, many young men were forced to face a war that
changed them, and not necessarily for the better. Many of the men who went to war experienced
terrors that changed them in a way that affected their lives after, as shown by countless war
stories and poems. Norman Bowker, from Tim O Brien s The Things They Carried (1990), is a
perfect example of the hard bitten war veteranarchetype. Fighting in the VietnamWar and feeling as
if he had a part in his friend s death(Kiowa) caused him so much guilt and pain that he ended up
hanging himself after endlessly driving around a lake when returning home. Similarly, Yusef
Komunyakaa s poem, The Dead at Quang Tri , emphasizes the ghosts that haunt soldiers during
and after war. Overall, the haunting memories that characters deal with in war stories, like O
Brien and Komunyakaa s, display the long lasting effects of death and war on the minds of
soldiers. To begin, Norman Bowker perfectly exemplifies the hard bitten war veteran archetype.
He lived in pain, constantly ruminating on time at war and making himself an outsider to society.
He felt hopeless, always reliving the nightmares of war, like when he lost his friend Kiowa to a
field of waste. At the end of the chapter Speaking of Courage , O Brien wrote, After at time he got
out, walked down to the beach, and waded into the lake without

Saving Documentation
Over the years people have been building structure, repairing structures, and modifying structures.
Every time something has changed with the structure or building, documentation is always needed
to record with the changes and benefits of the structures. But why is it important that we record
these documents. Does it play a factor if the future for the building or for future contractors, or even
how does one save these documents so that we will not misplace them or destroy them over the
many years they will be sitting? With this being said documenting all the information on these
structures is most definitely one of the most important parts to the structure itself in many ways.

When documenting one needs to remember to document everything from the simplest type of
wood used and from where to who put the wood in to why they chose that wood to where that
wood was placed. By doing this it makes it possible to make an exact replica of the structure if
need be. Also saving these documents could be a matter of life or death for the contractor if
something was to go wrong. Documenting everything that has happened and that is planning to
happen can help prove that the maybe mistake that could occur during the contraction process.
Also knowing every step as it happens it will be easy to go back to that exact step and redo it
instead of backtracking and having to do many steps that would cause a huge lost in funds and

The Aztec Creation Myth
The creation myth of the Aztec religion is one that strikes me as somewhat moredrawn out of a
longer type of process than that of most other religions that we havelearned about. I have found
that there are a few different variations as could be the casewith some religions whereas a
particular group leaning more towards one set of beliefscan sometimes skew or evolve original
learning. The creation mythto the Aztecs iscontinuous story of creations and destructions called
suns. The legend that tells the storyis called the Legend of the Fifth Sun . At the beginning of the
world there was onlydarkness before the first god Ometecuhtli who by the way was both good and
bad, maleand female created itself. Ometecuhtli gave birth to four other gods... Show more content

Even though in our society welook fond upon the death of an elder by taking solace in the fact
that they lived a long andfulfilling life the Aztecs took somewhat of an opposite stance. The
individuals who diedof old age were looked at as having avoided the risks that may lead to a
premature deathand were frowned upon(Saunders, Jen. Death Beliefs Rituals of the Aztec
Culture. The Classroom Synonym. The Classroom. Demand Media, n.d Web. 14 June
2015).These individuals upon death were sent to the Aztec concept of Hades, known
asMictlan(Cartwright, Mark. Aztec Civilization. Ancient History Encyclopedia. N.p., 26Feb.
2014. Web. 14 June 2015). This was a dark underworld ruled by a skeletal deathgod. The body
would be cremated along with sometimes a dog so the person would havea guide and
companion in the underworld(Dockray, Hilary. Ancient Aztec Perspectiveon Death and
Afterlife. The Christi Center. N.p., 11 Feb. 2013. Web. 14 June 2015.). On the flip side of this
equation is the Hero Death . This was reserved for warriorswho were slain in battle and also
those who willingly gave themselves up as humansacrifices. These individuals were the noble
ones who took the risk for the greater goodand didn t look back. I find in intriguing that in the
Aztec belief basically the deeds andactions of life carry little effect as long as the end death was in
a noble way. Theseindividuals received great glory and honor. The reward for

From 1955 to 1975
Why? The US fought to keep the South Vietnam, which was democratic, from becoming
communist like North Vietnam. The US felt responsible for protecting the world from communism
which is why they fought.
Difference from other American war it was different because, it wasn t a war for territory, but a
war to destroy an insurgency. This was also the first televised war.
Influence on American sentiment due to the fact that this was the first televised war, people saw
how horrifying the war was right from their television at home. This made Americans further
disapprove of the war making them protest even more.
Influence on literature and music the Vietnam War had an effect on music; musicians started
making songs that reflected the disapproval of the war as a way of protest. An example of a
song is The Times They Are A Changin by Bob Dylan. Anti war music posters were advertised
and a benefit dance was held on March 25, 1966. Another song was recorded, called Give Peace
a Chance by John Lennon regarding the disapproval of the war. The war also had an effect on
literature; many writers began writing works concerning war. Examples of poems written about
the Vietnam War was Gliding Baskets and Rice Will Grow Again by Frank A. Cross Jr. Those
had to do with the death of innocent Vietnamese civilians. Another writing was called We Regret
to Inform You by Paul Cameron. An example of a short story was The Lake Was Full of Artificial

  • 2. Gangs and Organized Crime in the United States Gangs and Organized Crime in the United States Criminal Justice Janaree Nagel 10/15/2011 Gangs and Organized Crime in the United States is on the rise. With the increase in turf wars, position and the financial gains, gang wars and Organized Crime are linked together in many ways. Within this paper, I will show how they are all tied together in. The M 13 s are the largest reported gang controlling large areas of our states. However, the largest area to which the MS 13 s control is within our own capital, Washington D.C. Their leaders rule all the gangs from inside El Salvador. I will discuss other gangs, and their ties into Organized Crime. Gangs and... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Only when this social bond is weakened is crime likely to occur. He contended that this social bond has four elements; Attachment, commitment, involvement and beliefs (Fuller 2006). In the attachment, when children respect their parents, appreciate all that they do for them, they are less likely to be involved in criminal activity. However, when they do not have the proper guidance, lack of concern for their outside activities, they tend to stray, and seek out those who show concern for them. Often it becomes a role model, a close friend, someone to which they seek approval from. This becomes their attachment bond. In gangs, this often leads to the higher authority, a person to which they look up too, to whom they want to become. The level of commitment involves how far one will go to prove themselves. One is committed to a gang, to which they consider all members family. People who have money, property, and good reputations are committed to the social system that allowed them the opportunities for that success (Fuller 2006). In a gang, being a member of a respected gang, means that they too will have respect by those outside of the gang, and will often be in fear of your presence. As in the MS 13, individuals who are quite familiar with this particular gang know that it is a matter of survival of their own existence to cross a gang member; therefore, the ordinary citizen will be wise to give way to the member. • 4. New Forest Background Few people realise the important role that the New Forest played in World War II. Its strategic location on the south coast meant that the New Forest was crucial in a range of operations and is home to a wide range of World War II installation. Whilst some of these are still visible today, many have been hidden by soil and vegetation or lost during land management activities. There where many aspects off the war that happened in the new forest, there main operations the the new forest played a big part in was the fact they had many airfields, along with airfields they played a part in the D day landings and the new forest is home to a bombing range. Stoney Cross airfield was one of the larger wartime airfields within the New Forest, and was active between the years 1943 to 1946, with post war activities continuing until its closure in 48. At Ibsley it was home to typhoons and spitfires, Beaulieu mainly hosted bomber and fighter planes and Stoney Cross dealt with aircraft carries and squadrons. Despite having many airfields, the new forest was home to many decoy sites, these proved very useful especially at night time a when the Germans tried to bomb the airfields, they made the decoy sites very bright this drew the bombers attention to these sites so they dropped there bombs on plain fields instead of on planes and citizens. His father was a preacher and died when Edward was five years old, orphaning Edward (Famous Scientists, 2015, Riedel, 2005). He went to school in Wotton under Edge and Cirencester (The Jenner Institute, 2015). While he was attending school, his older brother inoculated him for a disease called smallpox when he was only eight years (Adler, 2004, The Jenner Institute, 2015). When Jenner was 14 years old, he studied under a surgeon, Daniel Ludlow, for 7 years where he learned about surgical and medical practice (The Jenner Institute, 2015, Riedel, 2005). Jenner transferred some fluid from her lesions and inoculated an 8 year old boy with it. The boy ended up getting a mild fever and felt some discomfort, was cold and lost his appetite, but recovered after about 10 days (Riedel, 2005). A month later, Jenner inoculated the same boy with fresh fluid from a smallpox pustule. The boy developed a few pustules but did not get the disease. (Adler, 2004). • 7. The Use Of Literary Devices In A Separate Peace By John... Literary devices are tools and techniques of language that authors use to send a message to the readers. In A Separate Peace John Knowles uses, extended metaphor, foreshadowing, imagery and many other literary devices that give more depths, emotions to the characters, plot and theme in the book. The devices are used by authors to keep the reader more engaged in the novel. A great use of literary devices brings richness, clarity, insight and understanding of the text. Foreshadowing is used to warn or indicate an event in the future, extended metaphor is used to compare the difference between two things which continues throughout a series of sentences . This approach to irony can help the readers to gain more insight about each of the character s personalities. In A Separate Peace Gene knew that summer was officially over when Finny fell from the tree. That proved that the rules at Devon were there for a reason, If you broke the rules, then they broke you (66). The meaning of the verbal irony is that with every action you take there are consequences. External conflict is an effective way to build suspense in the novel which keeps the reader turning pages. An external conflict is found is A Separate Peace that Gene encounters, he gets into a brief fight with Cliff Quackenbush after returning from his break and visiting his injured friend, Finny. Gene shows up late at the crew house and Cliff chides him about his tardiness and makes condescending comments, I hit him hard across the face... I tried to throw him off, he lunged at the same time, and we catapulted into the water (79). Gene most likely losses his temper with Quakenbush because of his inner struggle with guilt. In fact, Quackenbush is the opposite of Finny, and as Gene had to deal with the crew leader s attitude and comments, it reminds Gene even more of Finny s absence. Gene is also showing some resilience just like Finny ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 8. Criticism Of The Media In Gone Girl And The Braindead... Are politicians or even newscasters trustworthy enough to present newsworthy material? Whether it s about politics, an investigation, or a criminal trial, a person must critically analyze the information that s being laid out in front of them before they should make any form of judgment based off what is presented. Criticism of the media is an important aspect of Gone Girl and The Braindead Megaphone. In both literary works, media is represented or described as subjective and storytellingpursuant which can end up being dangerous in some situations, and is prevalent in the real worlds postmodern broadcasting. Subjectivism seems to be an issue with today s information that is being presented to the ill informed population through various ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The jury could have been swayed by the non objective facts that they might have seen Ellen present on her broadcast. Later in the book, Nick talks about his feelings and thoughts about Amy (Flynn 302 303). The public may view it as true even though there isn t any actual evidence of Nick s feelings about her (Flynn 302 303). These things aren t easy to physically prove so the public would have to take Nicks word if they decide to believe him and see the situation from his viewpoint. In other words, he s able to subjectively manipulate the situation to better his circumstances. The possible outcome of this information being reported isn t necessarily destructive, even though it s psychologically manipulating material. The presentation of this information would mainly have an effect as to how the public may perceive Nick. Another characteristic of media that is portrayed in Gone Girl and described in The Braindead Megaphone is Storytelling. George Saunders defines storytelling as the idea that we shape or build our knowledge of a subject based off a simulacrum or representation of it that is provided by the mass media (9). In The Braindead Megaphone, the individual with the megaphone (anybody communicating to the outside world) becomes a storyteller/simulacra builder for the happening (9). • 10. The Great Gossip Girl By F. Scott Fitzgerald Abbi Kopf 1.7.16 The Great Gossip Girl A young man desperately battling society, wealth, and rich obnoxious friends in order to win the heart of the perfect girl...is this the story of The Great Gatsby, or the CW s Gossip Girl? Both, actually: the hit TV show mirrors Fitzgerald s most famous work through parallel themes and characters. Cynical subjects such as doomed love and corruption of the upper class play a major part in both works, as well as the story of fight to surmount class and poverty. This story actually played out a couple of times over the course of Gossip Girl s intensely dramatic six seasons, but most notably between Dan Humphrey and Serena Van Der Woodsen. Dan Humphrey was the James Gatz of Gossip Girl, still struggling to become Jay Gatsby. He had a nice life with his father and sister in Brooklyn, but always dreamed about something greater. When Nick finally told the reader Gatsby s true origin story, he said, he invented just the sort of Jay Gatsby that a seventeen year old boy would be likely to invent, and to this conception he was faithful to the end (p.104). Dan and Gatsby both had an idealized, or Platonic, view of themselves and the way their lives would turn out, and they would stop at nothing to get it. Dan created and used Gossip Girl as a way to get into Serena s world just Gatsby used Nick to get Daisy back. Both men saw their dream girl as all the money and glamour and fame that they wanted distilled into one person, a person whose voice ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

On April 28, 1937, the German Nazis air bombed the town of Guernica, which is the old Basque capital in Spain. As a result, the civilians of Guernica were left with a destroyed town and the massacre of numerous inhabitants. At the time of this event, Picasso was working in Paris and was commissioned by his government to paint a mural for the Spanish Pavilion of the Paris World s Fair. Guernica was completed in a short time following the bombing of Guernica. Looking at the real world through the dream world seems impossible, but sleep paralysis can do that and so much more. The most terrifying night of my life started as I was just falling asleep. I could feel my body giving in to the night and my eyelids becoming heavy, however they maintained open against my will. To maybe shake myself out of it, I tried to force myself to sit up; seeing how my legs did not respond to my brains request, I attempted to try a simpler task, like moving my fingers. Nothing was happening, not a muscle would budge. I wanted to yell for help but my mouth was glued shut and my vocal chords had failed me. In less than a second I lost all control over my physical self. For all I had known, I had become a vegetable for the rest of my life. My heart was sinking. As if things were not already horrible enough, I began to feel an evil presence in my bedroom. When I looked up, standing directly in front of me was a girl who was staring at me so intensely, it was as if she was burning holes through me. I quickly recognized that she was no one other than myself. Everything about her was like me, even the way her lips curved slightly downward. • 15. Lord of the Flies by William Golding and Rosseau Golding and Rousseau brought two different ideas using Lord of the Flies. They make you really think on what they are trying to prove. You can agree with either of them but people have their own opinions. Golding and Rousseau disagreed with each other s opinions on how human nature becomes evil. If I had to choose whose opinion I agree with, then I would choose Rousseau s. Rousseau s beliefs regarding human nature were that people are not born evil. He believes that people are good and act the way they want to. He does not believe that anyone can never be evil without something causing them to be. He believes that when someone is evil or makes bad decisions, it is because they are corrupted by society. People in society makes someone desire something that us past the level of good to meet their needs which is by something bad. Written by Rousseau, Let us conclude that, being self sufficient and subject to so few passions, he could have no feeling or knowledge but such as befitted his situation. I believe that his statement is explaining that when someone desires something so bad, they would do anything not even realizing what they may be doing is wrong which helps them get what they want. In the modern periodic table the elements are arranged in order of increasing atomic numbers. In mendeleev s periodic table they were in arranged in order of increasing atomic weight. The difference in the modern and mendeleev periodic table n 1869, just five years after John Newlands put forward his law of octaves, a Russian chemist called Dmitri Mendeleev published a periodic table. Mendeleev also arranged the elements known at the time in order of relative atomic mass, but he did some other things that made his table much more successful. In the modern periodic there are families and periods.there are seven horizontal rows of elements called periods. The vertical columns of elements are called groups, or families. The Matrix. Mendeleev s periodic table presented a new paradigm, with all of the elements positioned within a logical matrix.. But instead of seeing this as a problem, Mendeleev thought it simply meant that the elements which belonged in the gaps had not yet been discovered. He was also able to work out the atomic mass of the missing elements, and so predict their properties. And when they were discovered, Mendeleev turned out to be right. For example, he predicted the properties of an undiscovered element that should fit below aluminium in his table. When this element, called gallium, was discovered in 1875, its properties were found to be close to Mendeleev s predictions. Two other predicted elements were later discovered, lending further credit to Mendeleev s ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

To those who have lived in Phoenix before 1996, when Amtrak discontinued service, this may not be all too surprising. However, for us post 96 transplants, the thought of an Amtrak train, and for that matter any passenger train, traveling through the Phoenix Metro is a weird and humorous thought. Rap music, on the other hand, is popular pop culture, consumer commercialism, and mainstream media. Pop culture has a strong influence on the social construction of gender because images from pop culture convey powerful messages about gender stereotyped, especially regarding women s appearance. The actual device of self reflexive theater is used so well in Stoppard s play that it reads like the love child of a play and a compelling critical essay. The play is academic yet conversationally phrased and it deepens our understanding of the original play but also criticizes it. Now why exactly are you behaving in this extraordinary manner? GUIL. I can t imagine! Stoppard is commentating on Shakespeare s writing, by portraying onstage the ignorance that is required of the characters for the original plot of Hamlet to work. The meat of the scene isn t to insult the duo, but for the critically inclined audience to analyze the sort of logical leaps we take in order to participate in a narrative. The traditional outlet for such observations were academic journals and essays but Stoppard is exhibits these ideas onstage for a mass audience. The Player exemplifies my point (bloated and wriggling as it is) of the unique space that Stoppard is trying to occupy with the play. The Player is at once detached and involved in the happenings onstage (textual evidence? How about on page 25 when Guildenstern and the Player discuss fate. Guildenstern asks Yours [fate] or ours? Certainly the designs were intended to communicate identity and status, particularly considering that the figurines appear to have been used in ceremonial contexts, and also set up in residential areas to be seen and visited. They are treated differently, not only by society, but also in their own household. While parents may not realize it, they treat their sons and daughters different whether it be late night curfews, work ethic or a difference in atmosphere. One of the clearest differences is curfew. Parents often restrict a daughter s freedoms, one being restricting the possibility of being out late due to fear of danger. The probability of a woman being harassed driving back from a friend s house or at a concert surrounded by people is highly unlikely, yet, they are still told that they have to be home and are unable to experience events like a malewould. Males are seen as being stronger and not in danger of others whereas women are fragile and easy victims. Why is this? The answer has its roots in early childhooddevelopment. Boys, as a child and young adult, are taught, by their parents, to treat the girls gently and be rough with other boys. Girls are taught to be sweet, respectable and, as said before, gentle. Because of the lack of aggression girls experience as a child, they are seen to be more fragile and in turn, are more likely to be put in a dangerous situation with little to no self defense. The Forgotten 500 by George Freeman Freeman frequently used Government documents to tell some stories of these men and sometimes interviews from various articlesto cross reference the amazing heroic rescue stories of some of the 500 American air men, after most where shot down during the bombings of German petroleum Fields during Operation Air Bridge. For instance,in the beginning he tells Mike McKool s story from the summery of the account he provided in Operation Air Bridge, along with newspapers articles from 1946(48). Than he goes on to tell the story of Thomas Oliver and how he was flying a barrowed plain from His summary of his account he provided in his unpublished manuscript (49). At the end of the book he gives notes to prove that his facts or sources are creditable. He does supply enough info to insure his facts are indeed respectable. The only down side to his sources is that he didn t personally interview these men, due to the fact that many aren t around now days. Scope of Events THE FORGOTTEN 500 tells the story of Halyard Mission in 1944, the largest rescue ever of downed American airmen. More than 500 U.S. airmen were rescued, along with some from other countries, all right under the noses of the Germans, and mostly in broad daylight. Oil played a major role in WWII, The effort to master its sources or to manufacture it, or the attempt to deny it to an enemy was a major factor in defining the approach of World War II. • 39. The Afterlife And August Sky The characters in both stories experience important, but hard to deal with rites of passages. For example, we see in October Sky how O dell has to deal with his abusive step dad. In The Afterlife we read how Robert all his life has had to deal with not having a home to live in because his parents left him. These are all important because they can affect the characters later on in there life. Making them act or think a certain way about the type of situations they are going through or went through. The purpose of this essay is to explain the similarities and differences between two texts. The two texts, The Afterlife and October Sky, are similar in some ways, but very different in other ways. To begin with, one similarity I could find between these two texts was how in both stories there is a character that has to deal with not having a home for themselves due to their parents leaving them. In October Sky we see how Homer finds were Quentin lives to get help from him to be able to solve some math equations to prove his innocence. They work together to solve these equations and then after they are finished they step outside. Quentin asks Homer to not tell the rest of the rocket boysthat he lives in a governor s mansion. We see here that he is going through a familyIssue in this case more specifically being abandoned by his parents. In The Afterlife we see the same exact rite of passage. In this case Robert is the character dealing with being abandoned ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 41. Analysis Of The Movie Gone Girl No One Should Criticize... Rosamund Pike said, When the eyes are on you for the first time, you can t believe that people aren t criticizing you, and after her fantastic acting performance as Amy Dunne in Gone Girl no one should criticize her. Gone Girl is full of brilliant acting by many of the characters, but the actress that stood out the most to me was Rosamund Pikeas Amy Dunne. The theme of the movie is that everyone has to conform to some stereotype deemed okay by society in order to be liked. We all have to put on a face and act to be someone we are not, and Rosamund Pike as Amy Dunne portrays this beautifully. She is always acting, acting like the cool girl, acting like the victimbut underneath it she is someone very different; she is not a female stereotype deemed fit by society but a psychopath. She therefore creates a multidimensional character with many layers. The first time the audience sees Amy Dunne she is playing the ultimate cool girl. Nick introduces himself to her at a party and she creates an image of a sexy, mysterious, carefree girl. She has her hair in an effortless ponytail with stray pieces cascading down her face, which reflects her personality: laid back and sexy without trying to hard. When they first meet she is witty and casual, performing the ultimate cool girl stereotype perfectly. As Nick and Amy s relationship progresses the audience sees more and more of this; she literally embodies the perfect woman. But when she becomes her real self, it shows ... The report also indicated that wind employment remained stable around 0.8 million jobs. There have been policy changes in several countries that have reduced installation jobs. In other industries in this market like operations and maintenance, they have experienced a little growth. The uncertainty about future policies in these various countries has had an impact. This has resulted in a significant drop in new US installations and caused weak markets in Europe and India. However, China and Canada have experienced a surge. • 44. Algorithmic Game Theory Essay In algorithmic game theory, it is easy to find the Nash equilibrium if one can derive the default strategies of each player from the instructions/parameters of the algorithm. It is also not particularly hard to find the optimal solution to an algorithm either. In algorithmic mechanism design, it would be the goal of the algorithm designer to fashion the algorithm in such a way that causes the Nash equilibriumto be the same as the Pareto optimal (or at least close to optimal) result. This would mean that it would be impossible to make any player better off in the game without hurting another player at the same time (optimal), while it also being impossible for any one player to improve their situation by altering only their strategy (Nash equilibrium). It is the goal to make these two circumstances exist simultaneously. Next I will discuss my favorite topic regarding algorithmic game theory; the price of anarchy. I have to admit that the reasons this topic is my favorite are rather ridiculous; the name sounds really cool, and I like that the concept is also used in economics. Anyhow, the price of anarchy is a concept that measures how the efficiency of a system is ruined by the participants self centered actions. (Koutsoupias and Papadimitriou, 1999) Essentially, this is the result of an inefficient set of equilibrium outputs. If a system is not designed with the users motives in mind, the system is often ruined by participants who are strategically trying to benefit ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 45. Government s Plan Of Action Government s Plan of Action to Secure Electricity Supply Energy, especially electricity, is important for economic development. Electricity plays an important role toward economic growth as it is essential in using pieces of equipment that are used in the manufacturing processes of various products (ESMAP 8). The increasing population and expanding economy contribute to the increase in the demand for electricity. Especially in summer, there are many people would like to stay at home with the air conditioning on rather than having activities outdoors. Currently, China is the major consumer of electricity because of the huge population and industrial demand. However, the electricity produced in this country is not enough to supply its needs (Global Energy). The economic progress could not pursue if there is insufficient amount of energy that any country could use. Electricity shortage can happen if the available supply in an area cannot meet its demand. If this situation is prolonged, the price of the electricity might increase. Different countries experience electricity shortages because of the increasing demand for electricity. As the executive body of a nation, the government has implemented other strategies to deal with the problem, such as energy saving methods and restriction of electricity used. These two have their own advantages and disadvantages, but both have been effective in resolving the electricity shortages. Restricting electricity use is an effective ... • 46. Vietnam War Archetype Imagine being suddenly drafted to war, not prepared for the death and horror. Young, confused, scared, naГЇve. During the Vietnam War, many young men were forced to face a war that changed them, and not necessarily for the better. Many of the men who went to war experienced terrors that changed them in a way that affected their lives after, as shown by countless war stories and poems. Norman Bowker, from Tim O Brien s The Things They Carried (1990), is a perfect example of the hard bitten war veteranarchetype. Fighting in the VietnamWar and feeling as if he had a part in his friend s death(Kiowa) caused him so much guilt and pain that he ended up hanging himself after endlessly driving around a lake when returning home. Similarly, Yusef Komunyakaa s poem, The Dead at Quang Tri , emphasizes the ghosts that haunt soldiers during and after war. Overall, the haunting memories that characters deal with in war stories, like O Brien and Komunyakaa s, display the long lasting effects of death and war on the minds of soldiers. To begin, Norman Bowker perfectly exemplifies the hard bitten war veteran archetype. He lived in pain, constantly ruminating on time at war and making himself an outsider to society. He felt hopeless, always reliving the nightmares of war, like when he lost his friend Kiowa to a field of waste. At the end of the chapter Speaking of Courage , O Brien wrote, After at time he got out, walked down to the beach, and waded into the lake without ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
