History Of The Periodic Table Of Elements
Leonardo Miranda Mr. Tagami Chemistry 10/24/14 History of the Periodic Table of Elements
The construction of the Periodic Table of Elements was prior to the discovery of the individual
elements. Elements such as silver, gold, tin, copper, lead and mercury have been known for
centuries. In 1649, the first scientific discovery of an element was made by Hennig Brand when
he discovered phosphorous. Prior to Brand s discovery, chemists had acquired an immense body
of understanding concerning the properties of elements and their compounds for the next 200
years. By the year 1869, a collection of 63 elements had been revealed. As the number of known
elements increased, scientists began to notice patterns in properties and formulate classification
schemes. In 1862, a French geologist, A.E.Beguyer de Chancourtois, recorded a list of the
elements on a cylinder regarding their individual atomic weights. He was the first to identify that
elemental properties reoccur every seven elements. There has been some deviation on who
deserves credit for being the father of the periodic table, either the German Lothar Meyer or the
Russian Dmitri Mendeleev. Both chemists shockingly produced similar results during the same
time period working individually. Meyer s 1864 textbook included a shortened version of the
periodic table, which contained about half of the known elements ordered by their atomic weight
and valence charges. In 1868, Meyer assembled a prolonged version of the periodic

Counts vs. Daimyo Essay
Counts vs. Daimyo By examining Japan and Medieval Europe s past, both areas had feudalism
incorporated in their social structure. Feudalism was a relationship among the upper class, in which
a member of the nobility was granted land, and in return promised to protect the king, who gave
them their land. The nobilityreferred to are counts in Europe and daimyo in Japan. Both are
generally governors who rule over a substantial subsection of the empire with certain duties and
obligations. Daimyo and counts are very similar with some slight difference like whether their
power is handed down by heredity and how much power they really have. The term count was
originally just a companion of princes,
but from the time of the early Germanic ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The emperor did not hesitate to dispose any count guilty of bad administration. (3) Not only
could the counts be removed by the king but they could also be transferred to another county.
The king however did not keep his power forever. For eventually the counts gained more and
more power. As their power rose, the empire became decentralized. The people under the counts
were not loyal to the king who was miles away, they were loyal to the count that rain their area.
He knew was special needs they needed and was able to become more personal with the people
he ruled. When the king lost complete power, the lords took over and created manorialism. The
Daimyo of Japan have many similarities to the counts in medieval Europe. The term daimyo
came to be applied to those military lords who began exercising territorial control over the
various private estates into which the country had become divided. (4) They are considered
governors who have military control, administer justice and are in charge of taxes. The king
granted the first daimyo their land because they had won a battle or some more land for the king.
The land is just some kind of repayment for what they did. In return for the land that the king gave
them, Daimyo promised to give military support to the government. Each Daimyo is separate from
each other and fought over boundaries. They compete for power and this is similar to the uji in

Anne Frank Analysis
The Diary of a Young Girl I see the world being slowly transformed into a wilderness; I hear the
approaching thunder that, one day, will destroy us too. I feel the suffering of millions. And yet,
when I look up at the sky, I somehow feel that everything will change for the better, that this cruelty
too shall end, that peace and tranquility will return once more. Anne Frank. Anne Frank was a
Jewish girl in 1942 when her family had to go into hiding in the Secret Annex , an empty section
behind her father s company, after her sister Margot was called up to go to a labor camp.
Eventually they were joined by the van Daan family (van Pels) and Alfred Dussel (Fritz Pfeffer).
Although it might appear that conflict is the main cause because conflict between Nazi Germany
and Jews caused the Franks to move into hiding, and there is also conflict between people in the
Annex, that s incorrect because change in power turned Hitler and the party into power, and
change of living conditions caused conflict in the Annex. In The Diary of a Young Girl, the
driving force is change. It is the underlying cause of her starting to talk with Peter, understand her
mother, and her life changing. First off, her life changed during the time in the Annex. She notices
that herself: If I think now of my life in 1942, it all seems so unreal. It was quite a different Anne
who enjoyed that heavenly existence from the Anne who has grown wise within these walls. Yes, it
was a heavenly life. Boy friends

Life, Liberty, And Pursuit Of Happiness In The Declaration...
The United States, one of the most powerful nations in the world, was founded less than two
hundred and fifty years ago. Since 1776, the year when the thirteen original colonies ratified the
Constitution, three cornerstone ideas have been the drivers of the country s progress Life, Liberty,
and Pursuit of Happiness. Found in the Declaration of Independence, which was written by Thomas
Jefferson, these three concepts have been crucial in the lives of all Americans throughout the
existence of this nation. Liberty, which includes personal and economic freedom, was the main
reason why the colonies decided to break away from the United Kingdom in the eighteenth century.
The U.S. went through many economic booms, various recessions, and several major economic
depressions throughout its history. Yet, here it is, mostly unscathed and in full glory, still
dominating the world stage in economic and foreign affairs. However, in the past two three
decades, the economic conditions have changed adversely, especially for the younger generations. It
is an undeniable fact that the consumer and labor markets have undergone tremendous adjustments,
partly due to people s changing lifestyles, as well as globalization. According to Janet Yellen , the
U.S. Federal Reserve Chairwoman s, statement to Congress, the [country s] financial conditions
have worsened and the United Stateseconomy has become less supportive of growth in recent years

Analysis Of Dalton Conley s Big Girls Don t Cry Essay
Music has had a huge influence on my life. I listen to music everywhere, in the car, on my way
to class, at the gym, etc. The reason I love music so much is because there are so many songs
about so many topics. When I found out that we were assigned to write an essay on a song that
we loved and relate to a real life issue that we read about in our text, I was excited. I love
analyzing the music I m listening to and making sure I know what the artist is talking about
rather than just blindly listening to the song. I chose to write about the song Big Girls Don t
Cry, by Fergie. I personally relate to this song because I went through a breakup in high school
and it was a very difficult time for me. I didn t cry but my whole support system of family and
friends expected me to. I think that this song relates to chapter eight in Dalton Conley s book You
May Ask Yourself very well. This chapter is about gender
and how the world perceives the idea of
gender and gender roles. In this song, Fergie describes a girl who has gone through a breakup.
This song relates to chapter eight very well because the gender section talks about how women
are expected to act and portray themselves. There is a lot of change happening in the country
about gender roles and gender stereotypes. People are trying to end gender roles, and expectations
of people just because of their gender. I felt that this song would be appropriate to write about
since gender issues are very prevalent today. Conley defines

Eiland, L., Romeo, R. D. (2013). Stress and the developing adolescent brain. Neuroscience, 249,
162 171.
The adolescent phase is characterized by diverse and dynamic physiological and psychosocial
changes. One of the most integral changes, as elicited by the authors, is the response to stressors.
With specific regard to this stage, the author denotes that the stage is characterized by major shifts
in HPA (hypothalamic pituitary adrenal) axis reactivity that amounts to escalated induced hormonal
reactions. The author further explains that the factors that mediate such changes with respect to
stress reactivity, as well as the consequent impacts that they may have on an individual, are yet to
be substantiated. However, this literary research establishes that the stress sensitive cortical as well
as limbic brain areas that are always in constant growth, especially during this stage, are extremely
vulnerable to the changes that are prevalent. On the other hand, the perturbations with respect to the
adolescent may in turn contribute to heightened psychological dysfunctions inclusive of depression,
drug abuse, and anxiety.
The adolescent stage is faced with continued brain growth and maturity. These changes are
intuitively core in the emotional and physiological behaviors of adolescents. These authors
establish that the stressors that are pertinent during this developmental stage have an

Similarities Between Stand By Me And Looking For Alibrandi
Stand By Me, a 1986 film directed by Rob Reiner, and Looking for Alibrandi, a 1992 novel by
Melina Marchetta, are two texts designed to inspire teenagers and young adults through
entertaining and relatable life happenings of their main protagonists. The two texts share a
similarity in that both protagonists deal with challenges, uncertainties and insecurities. However,
these topics vary in such ways that the stories contrast greatly and potentially appeal to different
audiences. Both the 12 year old Gordie of Stand by Me and senior student Josephine of Looking
for Alibrandi are faced with challenges that have an effect on their lives, like anyone in the real
world. A similarity between the pair is that they both deal with the challenge of losing... Show more

Gordie s major insecurity is his sensitivity and his intelligence. At the height of his brother s
death, Gordie is well known for getting upset easily, or trailing off into thought about what he
could do to make his parents love him. He is also afraid to be intelligent, as the previous
paragraphs have highlighted. Gordie s friends are not as intelligent as him, and in turn he is
very reserved as a way of not expressing his intellect. To contrast, Josie has no issues expressing
her intellect. She is quite happy to tell people when they are in the wrong, and has no concerns
with being brutally honest. This is potentially in lieu of her upbringing and Italian heritage.
However, Josie is very insecure about her heritage. Throughout the novel she refers to herself as
an illegitimate Italian and is insecure about the expectations that she has to live up to. Josie is
constantly anxious about the Italian community and how much they will talk, talk, talk if she is
not normal enough . There are times she falls to her insecurity and gives into peer pressure such
as wagging the school walkathon, but her insecurities disappear as she learns from her mistakes
and realises that following rules is easier. With guidance from her immediate family, she eventually
accepts her Italian heritage, saying, You can t hate what you re part of... I resent it most of the

Health Policy Debate
Health Policy Debate The Affordable Care Act ACA has provided some needed changes to the
healthcare landscape of this great country. With these changes there have been many debates about
different aspects of the bill. The United States faces many ongoing challenges that include high
cost of healthcare, access to healthcare and the social aspect of government regulated healthcare.
One of the foundations of the ACA was to provide individuals with affordable healthcare and
access to preventative wellness as well as the reduction of preexisting conditions. In regards to the
ACA, the context of values, markets and morals will all be disused and the ongoing debate of the
ACA. Values Religion has always played a major role in the foundations of laws and values in the
United States. From money to monuments, the religious history has played major roles in this
country s establishment. According to Shaw (2015) delivering participant value requires more than
cost containment strategies that simply cut benefits and requires programs that provide better
quality and more cost effective care .

The moral aspect of healthcare has always been a topic that is widely debated. As a country, we
should be responsible for providing care and services for those in need. According to Saloner
Daniels (2011) the citizens of the U.S have a social obligation to preserve the opportunities of its s
citizens by achieving the health needs through insurance and by providing a form of insurance that
protects people from finical hardships. This moral responsibility to our citizens can be arguably
debated from both aspects but I believe that we must have some form of insurance to protect the

Ethics, Moral, And Moral Theory
1)What is the aim of moral (ethical) theory that you learned from the reading? Elaborate on this by
explaining how you think that having a clearer understanding of ethics can affect your life.
The purpose and aim for moral theory has to do with the desire to have some method to follow
when we reason about what is morally right and wrong. In other words, the main aim of moral
theory is to discover a decision procedure that can be used to guide correct moral reasoning about
matters of moral concern (3 Timmons). It is similar in the way that Descartes was trying to find a
way and strong structure for knowledge. Instead of knowledge, the aim for ethics and moral theory
is to figure out what is morally right and just so then we can gain a better understanding for the
world around us. Ethics keeps people and our Earth morally grounded. If we have no
expectations, we would not be where we are today in the world with all advances, and friendships.
We need to think about a way to come to the procedure in knowing what is right or wrong.
2)What are basic deontic categories? Explain and give your own example of each.
Basic deontic categories are used to evaluate our moral actions based on their rightness or
wrongness. Deontic comes from the Greek word deon, which is duty. Our duties as a human being
is understand our boundaries and evaluate our actions. There are three examples of basic deontic
categories. They are obligatory, wrong and optional actions. Obligatory actions are

Victor Frankenstein Lightning Analysis
Lightning is a brief flash of electricity with many consequences. Lightning can be scarring,
illuminating, and destructive. It is something to be feared and respected. In the novel Frankenstein,
Mary Shelley utilizes the motif of lightning to represent the disastrous life Victor Frankenstein to
shows how wrong choices can destroy lives. Victor Frankensteinled a difficult life struck by
tragedies. Many catastrophes were marked by the appearance of lightning or the indication of
lightning and electricity. The first appearance of this motif came very early in the novel, It was
not splintered by the shock, but entirely reduced to thin ribbons of wood (Shelley 22). In the
second chapter, Victor reveals that when he was 15, he discovered a tree that had been absolutely
decimated. The tree was not destroyed by lightning in the stereotypical, jagged V shape way;
instead, it was completely torn apart and shredded. The first lightning strikein the novel was one of
great power and strength if it completely destroyed such an old and large oak tree. The first
lightning strike was primarily intended as an element of foreshadowing. As one of the first
intricate details related by Victor Frankenstein, it served the purpose of setting up the rest of the
story. In a literal sense, the lightning served the function of taking away the life of a tree. It was a
brief destructive force that carried a large consequence. Similary, Victor made a brief choice that led
to much destruction.

Similarities and Difference of Japan and Western Europe Essay
Similarities and Difference of Japan and Western Europe
Both Japan and Europe were politically similar for many reasons:
Each strove to maintain a centralized government. For Japan the leader was to be called an
emperor or empress who could only be a part of the royal family if they were related to the Shinto
sun goddess. As for Europe, the leader was to be called a king or a queen. Like Japan, not just
anybody could become royalty. Kings and queens came from a long descent of an Imperial family.
Tradition was that the first born son of the king would become the next ruler following the kings
death. However, if no legitimate son were born then the daughter would become queen. In Europe,
the royal family and institution was usually ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In both Japan and Europe the elegance of the royal courts has never been matched to this day.
Great elegance and refinement marked life in Japan and Europe s capitals. In Europe and Japan
great castles were built marking the capital of each separate country. The royal families promoted
the arts, medicine, and science. One of the most memorable of European castles lies just outside
of Paris, France. The Palace of Versailles built by King Louis XIV in the seventeenth century. In
Japan however, the funerals of the emperors and empresses was more memorable. Kofun Mounds
were mounds of earth piled over their ruler s graves. The largest keyhole tomb measured 486m in
length, 305m in width, and 33.6m in height. It was provided for Emperor Nintoku.
One of the major differences between Europe and Japan was colonization:
As individual European countries scrambled to gain more territory to add to their Empires, Japan
feared the changes that visiting countries brought. When other countries visited Japan with imports
to trade they also brought with them a new religion, Christianity. Japanese Emperors feared the
chaos that a new religion would bring and decided to shut the rest of the world out. Only the
Dutch were allowed to trade with the Japanese as a need remained to be informed of the rest of the
world and medical advances.

The Indian Removal Act was very controversial during its time, receiving influence from
individuals, local, state and mostly by the federal government. This act gave the president, Andrew
Jackson, the authority to make transactions with Indian tribes in the Southern region of the United
States. The Indian Removal Act was a deal made by President Andrew Jacksonwith the Indian
tribes, forcing them to leave their occupied land, which happened to be federal territories west of
the Mississippi River. President Andrew Jackson s primary method in Indian Removal was his
speech to Congress regarding his opinions on the act, which included many positive outcomes that
would happen if the Indians were to leave the territory. He claimed that this act would not only
benefit the United States as a whole, but it would also benefit the Indian people. This benefit was
called Manifest Destiny or the idea of the United States expanding its territories from the Atlantic
Ocean to the Pacific. This expansion would benefit the country not just economically, but
agriculturally as well. However, Manifest Destiny was only an idea, and in order for this idea to
become a reality, the governments had to take action. This action in entirety was the removal of the
Indian tribes from the southern regions, making them travel through very harsh conditions so that
Americans could settle in their former homeland. Overall, the American government wanted to rid

When the Department of Defense awarded Halliburton subsidiaries billions of dollars to rebuild
Iraq in an uncompetitive bidding process, taxpayers and members of Congress alike cried foul.
Liberals at Swarthmore College bemoaned the mixture of domestic business interests with foreign
policy and reconstruction efforts. Initially, foreign companies were formally barred from the
lucrative reconstruction projects. This spring, Halliburton delayed billing the DOD over $140
million under allegations of overcharging for military meals and energy supplies. Where the DOD

American bilateral aid, in the form of outright grants or low interest loans, often comes highly
qualified and redirects wealth back to the United States by design. The United States no longer
keeps track of the level of tied aid, citing statistical difficulties, but USAID reports in 1996
estimated that 71.6% of bilateral aid commitments were tied to the purchase of US goods and
services (ActionAid 1). In 1993, USAID generated seven billion dollars in revenue from purchase
of American goods and services and claimed it has created thousands of jobs...here at home
(Hancock 156). Clearly, the United States reaps a handsome reward from its foreign aid policy. Is
this what we want from a supposed exporter of development expertise and the richest country in the
world?
The two most insidious manifestations of tied aid involve distortions of international markets
distortions which bring direct benefit to the United States. Tied aid often requires purchase of
American goods and services with markups above international prices. Conversely, tied aid can
also involve the sale of goods and services below international prices. Subsidized agricultural
exports belong to this category of foreign aid and were the subject of great debate and fury at this
year s trade talks in Cancun, Mexico.
Aid tied to the sale of expensive American products results in gross inefficiency: goods and
services purchased with tied aid tend to be priced well above their actual market value, with

How The Ming Dynasty, Incan Society, And Tenochtitlan Society
Throughout unit two we looked at many different societies, not in Europe. While there were many
influential civilizations in Europe during this time, there was also many civilizations making major
advancements as well. There were three things that really caught my eye and these were the Ming
Dynasty, Incan Society, and Tenochtitlan, the Aztec
capital. While all of these may seem different,
they have influenced how we live our life today somehow.
I.The Ming Dynasty
The Ming Dynasty ruled China from 1368 to 1644 (Morris). The Ming Dynasty was established
by King Zhu Yuanshang, who named the dynasty not after Nohis family but the word ming
which can mean bright or luminous ( The Chinese Ming ). It had a population around eighty five
million making it the largest civilization on Earth. As Professor Clunas points out in the
exhibition s exemplary catalog, everything about it was on a grand scale: It had a greater land
area, bigger cities (and more big cities), bigger armies, bigger ships, bigger palaces, bigger bells,
more literate people, more religious professionals. (Morris). Not only was the Ming Dynasty
bigger, it brought many major advances in art, technology, and philosophy during its time.
Probably one of the most popular art forms, is the amazing work they could do with blue and
white porcelain. They were very skilled in this new art form, and were the only civilization that
could make these beautiful pieces. Still to this day, it is hard for anyone

Issues of Cultural Diversity and Diet
Cultural Diversity African American Diet
In the present time the African American culture changed quite a bit in being removed from where
they as a people originated or should I say their homeland from whence they came. African
American people are a people who are influenced tremendously from their fore fathers and mothers
who lived in the southern part of the United States. The nomenclature for this group is to include
African American, Black Americans or people of color. I prefer to use African American at this
time since I am preferably writing about my own cultural background. The food habits of African
Americans originated and resolved around food. They are a society who are based around religious

Unfortunately this tends to lead to a lot of obesity among them. A lot of the problem is
contributed to the many celebrations that we celebrate with foods that just throw caution to the
wind so to speak. How ever, people are not all alike and everyone, believe it or not is different
especially when it come to culture. Each culture is bought up different. How they socialize depends
entirely on their cultural upbringing which includes religion, education and even sexual orientation.
With the nature of variations in each cultural group we should never be generalized or taken for
granted that the characteristics apply to all individuals of one cultural group. The diversity of
cultural eating is a main issue in America.

Everything means something. The artwork of Buddhism has special ways of conveying meaning
through their artwork. Everything from colors to hand gestures means an incredible amount of
information. As a newcomer to these ideas the best way to convey what I have learned is by

Introduction Where was this difficult and twisted current relationship between Japan and China

Environmental concerns and climate change are influencing and shaping the future of the power
industry. As a result, the electricity required to meet the growing demand is mainly generated from
renewable energy resources, and this trend is expected to continue in the next decades [1]. Hydro
and wind are major renewable energy resources and are free of greenhouse gas emissions [2]. This
makes them valuable environmentally sustainable and economic resources for power generation
around the world. A hydro wind hybrid power system is an excellent combination for improved
reliability, where the resources abound [3]. In Newfoundland and Labrador, there is enormous
potential for hydro and wind renewable energy resources, with ... Show more content on

This condition imposes unique challenges on the planning and operation of a hydro wind
integrated power system in a reliable manner [8]. Previous studies on wind penetration issues and
solutions found that the limiting factors of wind integration include penetration level, forecasting
reliability, geographic diversity, hydro generation flexibility and control of the overall system [6].
Control is a key enabling factor for the deployment of renewable energy systems [9]. Control
techniques such as linear and dynamic programming, genetic algorithms, and neural networks,
proposed by past research, for the control and economic dispatch of renewable energy systems,
have not been acknowledged to be error free [3]. Two major flaws identified in existing techniques
include the lack of ease of use, and adaptability to new situations and evolving regulations [3].
These flaws pose major operational challenges to utilities and thus, make control technologies
optimization an imperative research endeavor.
In 1998, the North American Electric Reliability Corporation (NERC) Policy 1 Generation Control
and Performance Standard (CPS) was enforced to ensure effective frequency control in
interconnected power systems. In this policy, for example, it is required that each balancing
authority shall achieve, as a minimum, CPS1 compliance of 100% (a measure of the correlation

Reflective Introduction To Cinema
The larger majority of the Introduction to Cinema 2366 course was viewing films. Subsequently,
the films we viewed in the class have affected me in four gifts of the humanities. As a student, my
interests have developed around the social issues of classism and racism in America. Therefore,
the course has given me food for thought via films which tackle social issues causing me to rethink
the ways I understand these issues as well as understand filmrhetoric to gain a deeper knowledge
of how society understood these problems. Cinema also allows viewers to gain a sense of the
past, this is especially true of the course since the films we ve watched were opened 1959 or
before. In this way, I have been able to understand historical events (such as the dust bowl, the great
depression, and the red scare) through characters who are relatable, causing me to understand that
though time and geography may differ between me and these characters, there exist timeless
truths of humanity. The course has also allowed me to extend myself intellectually. Before
enrolling in this course, I had little knowledge about cinema and its place in our society. The
course has provided me with a new found appreciation for the art of film which is an important
subject in academia rather than just an elective. Lastly, I have realized the idea of the infinite
person, via this film course. Through the films viewed in class, I have found myself relating to
characters I regularly would not have. For

Rick Sanchez Characters
The first time I saw Rick and Morty was during a long night. I was really bored in bed I couldn t
sleep so I just started to go through the channels and it caught my attention. I love watching
cartoons and so from there on I started watching it for the first time. Watching Rick and Morty Rick
was the cool guy. Rick Sanchez is a cartoon character is distinguished looking, has a unique
personality, and enjoys interesting hobbies
There s lots of things to point out from Rick Sanchez but there are three fitters that are
outstanding appearances. Are is his bright blue spiky hair, that his old but a cool person and his
always drooling because his always drink and doesn t care that his drooling. When I saw Rick
the thing that I was looking at was his blue hair and that is so spiky and that not normal no one
has it like that and his a old mad to have colored hair. Then the second that that you see right
away is that his always drooling and he doesn t care that his drooling, its just there falling off his
chin but Rick doesn t care is there just dripping off his chin then. The last thing is that his old but a

he could be talking to his nephew Morty from a second, he will get furious then he will show

ever be boring. The other side of Rick he can be reckless and a genius at sometimes. Rick can be
doing perfect then out of know where he will start to drink and goes on his trip messing around
with his family then just be braking everything he touches. but when his fine and good to go he
will bring out his genius skills out just to prove that his smarter then everyone, that he can prove it

Effects Of The First Great Awakening Dbq
There were many events that occured prior to the American Revolution and aided in bringing it to
fruition. The First Great Awakening in the 1730s and 1740s presented a new logic that had people
begin to reflect on the spirituality in daily life, causing a majority of colonists to question the rule
of Great Britain over them. The religious impact in the colonists from the Great Awakening caused
the ministers to lose authority among those who now studied the Bible in their own homes. With
this change in the authority in religion, it also changed the way some people political authority, as
if they did not need to rely on the higher power of a minister, the there is no need of a higher power
ruling over the government. This thinking also caused the The long term effect of the American...

Manipulation Depicted In Shakespeare s Richard The III
William Shakespeare s Richard the III follows the story of Richard, Duke of Gloucester, and
how he shamelessly oppresses and exploits others in order to become king. As the play unfolds,
we are shown Richard s cunning abilities, and the ways in which he resolves his problems. In this
passage, Richard is attempting to advance with his plans of becoming king. In order to
successfully do so, he must learn of the ones around him. He must know who he can trust, and
who he cannot, for his plans can prove to be futile and potentially dangerous to him if he does not
confide in the right people. Richard s portrayal as a master of manipulation and deception allows
him to always be prepared for any situation. Richard has the infamous ability to say exactly... Show

Catesby says, Tis a vile thing to die, my gracious lord,/When men are unprepared and look not

he is also foreshadowing Hastings doom. Hastings is negligent in realizing the true nature of
Catesby s words. This irony further depicts the recurring theme of deception in the play, but as
well as Hastings blindness. Hastings is manipulated into believing that Richard will protect him
in any situation as he says, As thou and I, who, as thou know st, are dear /To princely Richard
and to Buckingham. (66 68) Richard s concealed operations are proven successful as Hastings is
deceived by Catesby s illusive words. The many occurrences of double entendre through Catesby

hidden from Hastings, but not from the audience. Richard s manipulative expertise can also be
shown by, not only his enemies, but also his friends and followers. In the passage, Catesby is
easily manipulated and corrupted by Richard. Richard s manipulative skills are critical to his
development and representation of a smart yet hateful man. Most of Richard s followers, including

What Is The Character Of Paraclete In The Pilgrim s Progress
Throughout Christian s journey in The Pilgrim s Progress, he encounters many dilemmas which
often throw him off the path to the Celestial city. However, whenever someone is with him or aids
him, he prevails and acquires more and more wisdom. If he has a constant guide or companion in
his journey, it will be less probable for Christian to stumble or get lost. John Bunyanshould
incorporate the character Paraclete into his book, The Pilgrim s Progress, because he will provide
help in times of trouble, he will encourage Christian to overcome obstacles, and he will grant
Christian someone to talk to and travel with.
One thing Christian would benefit from on his journey is someone to help him when he is lost
or does not know what to do. Oftentimes Christian struggles facing foes during his journey to
the Celestial City and they slow him down. If Paraclete is there with him in these troubled times,
Christian will waste less time. When Christian faces Apollyon, Paraclete is there to help fight
him off and defend Christian when he is struggling. This is one of Paraclete s roles in The
Pilgrims Progress: to aid Christian in his battles of any kind. He also will help Christian escape
from the Giant Despair s castle. Paraclete can provide Christian with the answer to finding the key
to his cell in order for him to escape faster. Also, instead of listening to Mr. Worldly wise and going

Projects as open systems (identifying the project nature in systems terms)
Systems thinking and project management evolved together from meeting the same challenges
during the 1950s (Winch, 2010). The system approach helps to understand the complexity of the
processes and the interrelationships with them. (Walker A. , 2015).
Ackoff (1969) considers system as:
An entity, conceptual or physical, which consists of interdependent parts. Each of a system s
elements is connected to every other element, directly or indirectly, and no sub set of elements is
unrelated to any other sub set .
Walker (2007, p. 67) states that systems theory helps to explain how the project management
process should be structured and hence how the various firms and ... Show more content on

These types describe the extent of interaction between project actors. Pooled interdependency
means, that actors do not interact straightly, but contribute individual pieces to the whole. Even
though they are not directly linked, their performance affects each other. Sequential
interdependency has a serial form. There is the direct interdependency of units on each other: the
output of the entity becomes the input for the followed one. Both parts make contributions to and
are sustained by the whole. In case of reciprocal interdependency, the outputs of each become the
inputs for the others, but not in a serial form. Each unit poses contingency for the other. Reciprocal
interdependency has the highest level of complexity and dominates in construction projects, which
shows the need for the highest level of integration. (Baccarini, 1996)
Thompson (1967) suggests that sequential interdependency consists of the elements of pooled
interdependency, whereas reciprocal interdependency embraces the elements of both pooled and
sequential. This shows the links between the types of interdependence.
The three types of interdependency have significant implications for how to achieve coordination in
construction, as they imply that the actors must adjust and direct their activities and resources in
and between numerous supply chains and numerous construction sites. (Bankvall,

Personal Statement For Food Science
From a young age, I have always wanted to know how and why the things around me work.
Science was one of my more well liked subjects throughout my schooling years. I am able to
excel in these subjects because I have developed a strong interest in them and I enjoy the process
of learning new things. I have always wanted to go to university to study a science based subject.
While browsing through the variety of courses available in your university, I came across Food
Science and it caught my attention. That was when I knew it would be the right course for me.
I have always enjoyed baking and cooking, as a result, I often bake with my family members. This
means that I do have some prior knowledge of importance of nutritional values, convenience,
safety and shelf life of foods. Food Science has actually been integrated into our everyday lives,
and that is what makes it so appealing to me. The food industry is one of the largest industries in
the world and I am eager to be part of this important industry, researching on how to produce food
that is of better quality. Research that has previously been done by Food scientists have largely
contributed to the higher quality of life experienced in many countries today, as compared to that
of previous decades. To work with food is a heavy responsibility as people place their trust in those
who produce the food they consume. I believe that it would be of great satisfaction for me to see a

Women s National Basketball Association Essay
The Women s National Basketball Association, more commonly known as the WNBA, is a
professional basketball league consisting of 12 teams spanning across the United States. The
league was founded in 1996 but didn t officially kick off until 1997. While it s not the first major
women s professional basketball league in the United States, the WNBA is the only league that has
received full backing from the National Basketball Association, more commonly, the NBA. Now in
its 20th season under the direction of league president Lisa Borders, the regular season is played
from June to September with the playoffs spanning through the remainder of September into the
middle of October. Although they have the full backing from the NBA, there are still a few
discrepancies between the two leagues. Even though WNBA games are not as exciting as NBA
games, the players of the WNBA deserve equal pay because the team mindset makes the game
more challenging, players continue to show their hard work in the offseason by playing
overseas, and they inspire young girls by providing for charities as a result of their work. There
is the idea that the WNBA is less exciting than the NBA due to the lack of dunking. The dunk, or
the alley oop (lob to the dunk) has become an intricate part of the men s game but it is not so
often used in the woman s. While the average NBA player stands at about 6 3 , the average
WNBA player is only about 5 10 . With this in mind, almost every single NBA player is able to

Socioeconomic Status
If I could go to work and teach music and only have to worry about teaching music to a classroom
of students that are ready to learn, what a job that would be! (Charles Moorer Jr.). Socioeconomic
status determines a number of things that we consider quite valuable to our overall make up as
human beings. These things are to include the type/quality of educationone receives, overall income
and occupation. All of these are common things that we deal with regularly. Therefore, how does
this affect musical development as well as the teaching of music? Society is affected tremendously
by our socioeconomic status. When dealing with the low end of this status, it s commonly

Research suggests that all students should receive the same privileges as well as overall self
development no matter what their socioeconomic status background may be. Is this the case

lower end of masses. These masses include books, facilities, administration, and even teachers.
So is this a product of the richer getting richer and the poorer are getting poorer ? We must
always remember that Maslow s Hierarchy of Needs is an essential element when dealing with
any form of education, especially music education and its development. Maslow s Hierarchy of
needs includes physiological, safety, social, esteem, and self actualization. Students who s needs

Difference Between Phonetics And Phonology
Introduction: Phonetics and phonology both study the sound system but in a different way.
Phonetics and Phonology both are important for a language as phonetics represents the speech
production system and the perception of human beings, sign language and phonology represents the
sound system conveying its meaning. Every language has language system by which we can
communicate and pronounce words in a good way. Linguistics is called as the Scientific Study of
Language . Linguistics utilizes scientific formulas and principles in language system. Linguistics
has several branches. Phoneticsand phonologyare the two fundamental branches of them. Phonology
often guided by phonetics. Phonology is also sometimes called as phonemics or phonematics. The
main difference between phonetics and phonology is that phonetics concerned with physical
properties of pronouncing sounds and phonology concerned with the organized structure of
language though these two study the sound system.

The Dimenon Of The Parthenon
The Parthenon The Parthenon in Athens, Greece, is a giant, architectural temple dedicated to the
goddess, Athena. Likewise, the Parthenon in modern Nashville, Tennessee, is an honorary replica
of the ancient monument. Many historians say it is an exact replica. Without a doubt, it is the
closest most people will ever come to experiencing the greatest temple of ancient Greece. A visit to
the Parthenonin Athenswould have been an immense pleasure; however, the replica in Nashville is
adequately breathtaking. The enormous columns, the carvings along the top, the giant statue
within, and the larger than life bronze doors make this monument something to remember. The
Parthenon and its sculptures continue to live on through the replica in Nashville, Tennessee. The
Parthenon is easily mentioned as one of the oldest monuments in the world. Originally, the
Parthenon was completed in 438 B.C. It is strategically placed atop the Acropolis in Athens,
Greece. The Acropolis simply means high city in ancient Greece (Cole, 39). It is higher in
elevation than all the other land below it, and where Greece s most sacred temples were built.
Also, it was built in such a way that when viewed from afar, you can see the entire building. The
purpose of the enormous building was to be a temple dedicated to the goddess, Athena. According

Human Reproductive Cloning Should be Banned Essay
Human Reproductive Cloning Should be Banned
The issues concerning human reproductive cloning are shrouded in controversy, perhaps
overshadowing the true advantages of cloning technology. Therapeutic cloning, which is often
misunderstood as reproductive cloning, is less controversial than the latter as it does not involve
the creating of an individual being. Instead, vital stem cells are extracted from human embryos, in
order to generate tissues and organs for transplant.
The goal of this process is strictly to harvest stem cells, resulting in the creation of cloned organs ,
which can be used to treat heart disease, Alzheimer s, and cancer.
However, because reproductive cloning involves the creation of a specific being with ... Show more

. . concerns can be addressed when reproductive cloning has been shown to be safe in animals,
which it has not yet. (Paulson) The success rate by means of reproductive cloning remains pale in
comparison to natural procreation, and thus does not justify cloning as a form of procreation for the
time being. The current success rate for reproductive cloning stands at one or two viable offspring
per 100 experiments, and until the success rate drastically increases, cloning humans would be
potentially dangerous and unethical.
The dangers that arise from reproductive cloning are numerous, and are enough to validate the
banning of human reproductive cloning altogether. During mammalian reproductive cloning, a
large proportion of clones suffered from weakened immune systems, which greatly compromised
the animal s ability to fight off infection, disease, and other disorders. Animal experiments in
cloning all indicate that a cloned twin is at high risk of congenital defects, multiple health problems
and perhaps a greatly shortened life span. (Paulson) In addition, many of the offspring produced
through cloning suffer massive abnormalities, such as missing or deformed organs. Approximately
30% of offspring are diagnosed with large offspring syndrome and other debilitating conditions. In
fact, studies on reproductive cloning have shown that more than 90% of

Technical Decision Questions On Programming The Fms And...
The first decision discussed in programming the FMS and ACARS will be choosing the correct
runway to request data for. Choosing the runway is an analytical decision, as information needs to
be analyzed correctly. An airport s ATIS will list the active runways in use for departures. If
multiple runways are being used for departure, pilots will need to anticipate the runwaythey will
use. Pilot will use their location relative to the runways, direction of departure, and previous
experience to decide on a runway. Pilot s previous experience can be heuristic as certain airport
conditions lead to specific runway operations. It is sometimes referred to as tribal knowledge when
anticipating the correct runway. Sometimes airports will use a... Show more content on

There can also be a runway change after the initial assignment, which leads to the task starting all
over. Time is the biggest stressor in this decision. A pilot always wants to anticipate the correct
runway so that it will reduce their workload during taxing. If they picked the wrong runway they
then have a lot of work starting the request task over in a short period of time.
The second decision looked at will be deciding if the received data is correct and valid to accept
and use. This decision can be either intuitive analytical. Analytical is the correct way to make the
decision however. The decision is analytical because pilots are supposed to verify all the
information that was used to compute the takeoff data such as wind, altimeter, flap setting, and
runway. That takes additional time but is the correct method. Most pilots make the decision
using intuitive decisions making. Pilots receive preliminary takeoff data during their preflight. If
the v speeds on the final takeoff data received is within a knot or two of the preliminary takeoff
data v speeds pilots will use that as their check. They can accomplish that much quicker and use it
as a shortcut. If any of the information isn t correct for the situation it is important pilots catch it
or it can lead to invalid data being used. Time is the biggest pressure in this decision. This decision
is generally made while taxing which is a high

Rhetorical Analysis of President Woodrow Wilsons War Message
With the status of the country s belligerency heavily in question, an apprehensive President
Woodrow Wilson prepared to request from an unmotivated and unprepared country a declaration
of war against Germany. After exerting every attempt possible to retain the peace and honor of
the United States, the President was finally forced to choose between the two, in which he opted
for the latter (Seymour 26). As he sat down to compose his congressional address proposing war,
the uncertainty of his decision overwhelmed him. He confided to a member of his cabinet, Frank
Cobb, that he had never been as unsure about anything in his life as the judgment he was making

He labeled the conflict as a war against all nations exemplifying the distress that other countries
have experienced due to the unbiased and relentless bombing of their own neutral ships (Safire

Germany, Wilson s cry for war seemed more convincing. He went on to assert that the choice
made by the U.S must be befitting to the singular characteristics of the country and that they
must be very clear what their motives upon entry into the war were: not vengeance or profession
of physical might, but to defend the principles of peace and justice and to set up amongst the
free people of the world an observance of these ideals (Safire 113). We were entering the war not
to battle with the German people, but to combat a greater menace, the system that had impended
these violations (Baker 512). The president proceeded with regard to his stance on neutrality.
Aware of pacifists like Henry Cabot Lodge in the audience, Wilson appealed to those who had not

neutrality would be adequate in safeguarding his people from unlawful violence was in fact

went to volunteer her medical services, tending to suffering soldiers ( Clara Barton ). Finally, in
1862, she received permission to transport supplies onto the battlefield. The soldiers and
everyone else always gladly welcomed her ( Clara Barton (1821 1912) ). Clara Barton once
stated it has been long said that women don t know anything about the war. I wish men didn t
either. They have always known a great deal too much about it for the good of their own kind (qt
d in Clara Barton Biography ). Working in the battlefield for all of those years has led her to
believe that exact thing. In fact, from all of the work she did during the war, she earned the
nickname: The Angel of the Battlefield ( Clara Barton Biography ). In July of 1863, Barton
went as far as to move from her home in Hilton Head Island to Morris Island to take care of the
growing amount of sick and injured soldiers in that area. Soon later is when her assistants and she

Essay On Why I Want To Be A Doctor
Mr. Flueckiger? exclaimed Mr. Freeborn. He had been the monotone teacher of my freshman
biology class and then my AP Biology class after that. I woke with a start. His lecture on genetics
had been a perfect melody for my post lunch nap.
Yes? I responded. The anxiety of fighting dragons in dream was nothing compared to this.
I asked, What is the probability that two parents, who are both carriers for Phenylketonuria, have
two children both afflicted with the disease?
I spent the entire night before reading ahead in my AP Biology book, finishing the chapter on
genetics. Obnoxiously, I retorted, If both parents are carriers, the probability one child will have

As an intern, I collaborate with the thirty nine operations run by Purdue Dining Catering (PD C).
The most ambitious project I have planned and executed was PD C s orientation program,
Jumpstart. Jumpstart is a program I have both participated and mentored in during my time at
Purdue. The summer between my sophomore and junior year I had the opportunity to plan this
event involving over 100 employees. This event allowed me the opportunity to leave my comfort
zone and strengthen my time management and planning skills. It also presented me with more
hands on leadership experience while running the program logistics.
A physician interacts with people of many skill sets, backgrounds, ethnicities, and levels of
education. His or her ability to communicate effectively and work in a team are defining factors of
his or her success. I have had the opportunity to work with many different individuals through my
roles as an undergraduate teaching assistant (TA), a Student Supervisor for PD C, and in research.
The different modes of communication and teamwork that each required taught me valuable skills
that translate directly to the medical field. As a TA, I could not only do something I loved, teach,
but also learn about communication in an educational environment. I learned how to communicate
material in a way that effectively reached students with different educational requirements. As a
Student Supervisor, I worked with students from all over

Essay On College Athletes Are Not Paid
College athletes have always been worked beyond imagine, and it is ridiculous to think that even
in today s society, college athletes are not paid. Unlike regular college students, student athletes
are not able to work jobs or make extra money because they put over forty hours a week in to their
respective sport. More often than not collegeathletes are taken advantage of because they put their
bodies at risk for injury and have no insurance or income to make it worthwhile. Of course, some
college athletes do go on to make millions of dollars, but that is only the case for a small
percentage of college athletes, and since college sports brings in billions of dollars a year, college
athletes should earn at least a small profit. Furthermore,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
According to Allen Sack, athletes are already essentially paid to play, by getting to go to college
for free, but they also deserve the same rights and benefits as other employees, which could
include medical benefits, workers compensation when injured, and the right to build financial
security for their family while in college, and the denial of these rights is morally
unconscionable (Sack). It does not make sense that college athletes are not paid because these
athletes are the sole reason for popularity in the college athletic apparel market, which brings in
millions of dollars a year, yet college athletes do not see a dime, even though they are the reason
for sold jerseys and other apparel. Even worse is the fact that college athletes are prone to getting
injured and a rising star with a great future ahead of him or her can have their contract
(scholarships) canceled once a school realizes that they will no longer be bringing value or money
to their school. Of course, this sounds cruel, but it is the reality for some college athletes, and it is
an option that must be extinguished because not only do regular students deserve reassurance and
stability, but college athletes do

The Endless Possibilities of 3D Printing Essay
Why go to stores and spend lots of money buying toys, jewelry, cups and many other plastic utilities
when you can only press one button and print them out for yourself. This futuristic idea is not only
innovating the scientific and technological world, but it is also innovating modern day households.
The possibilities of 3D printingare extremely captivating, making this one of the most exciting
innovations in recent times. 3D printing, also known as additive manufacturing, makes three
dimensional solid objects from a digital model or command. To picture how this process works,
3D printers use an additive process, where adding layers of a successive material creates an object.
Traditional machines, however, uses a subtractive process by... Show more content on

Although 3 D printers are not yet a standard part of home computing equipment, the latest
generation of devices, such as CubeВ® by 3D Systems, the Cubexв„ў or Makerbot s
Replicatorв„ў2X which retail for between one and three thousand US dollars are bringing the
possibility of home manufacturing one step closer to reality (Jewell). Now the biggest difference
between traditional manufacturing and 3D printing will be the emergence of mass customization.
Goods will be, infinitely more customized, because altering them won t require retooling, only
tweaking the instructions in the software. Creativity in meeting individuals needs will come to
the fore, just as quality control did in the age of rolling out sameness (D Aveni). When you have
a product that is printed out individually from software with your own customization, then there
would be no reason in buying a product that will look like something another person can own
because of its ordinary accessibility. Creating physical 3D models in a fast, easy and affordable
way has great potential, especially when you can do it in the comfort of your home. As 3D printers
are becoming live in the market, they demonstrate great potential by fostering economic growth.
The implications of this revolutionary technology indeed promise to have a radical impact on the
may things are produced and business is done. There are

In zoos, Chinese pandas eat bamboo, sugar stick, honey, carrots, fruits, eggs, fish, and sweet
potatoes. Chinese pandas get a significant part of the water they require from bamboo, a grass
which contains fifty percent water. Notwithstanding, pandas require more water than what bamboo
alone can give. To satisfy their need of water, pandas additionally drink water from rivers and
streams. As pandas stroll around, they spread seeds which builds vegetation. Pandas speak with one
another through vocalization and fragrance checking. They leave their imprints on the tree trunks,
and rub against articles to stamp their way.
For the most part, Chinese pandas don t coexist with people in light of the fact that a huge number
of individuals live in and around the pandas territory. For a considerable length of time, people and
pandas shared the earth, and utilized the characteristic assets for their living. As the populace has
developed, human exercises have hurt the earth and have altogether disintegrated the pandas

  • 3. History Of The Periodic Table Of Elements Leonardo Miranda Mr. Tagami Chemistry 10/24/14 History of the Periodic Table of Elements The construction of the Periodic Table of Elements was prior to the discovery of the individual elements. Elements such as silver, gold, tin, copper, lead and mercury have been known for centuries. In 1649, the first scientific discovery of an element was made by Hennig Brand when he discovered phosphorous. Prior to Brand s discovery, chemists had acquired an immense body of understanding concerning the properties of elements and their compounds for the next 200 years. By the year 1869, a collection of 63 elements had been revealed. As the number of known elements increased, scientists began to notice patterns in properties and formulate classification schemes. In 1862, a French geologist, A.E.Beguyer de Chancourtois, recorded a list of the elements on a cylinder regarding their individual atomic weights. He was the first to identify that elemental properties reoccur every seven elements. There has been some deviation on who deserves credit for being the father of the periodic table, either the German Lothar Meyer or the Russian Dmitri Mendeleev. Both chemists shockingly produced similar results during the same time period working individually. Meyer s 1864 textbook included a shortened version of the periodic table, which contained about half of the known elements ordered by their atomic weight and valence charges. In 1868, Meyer assembled a prolonged version of the periodic ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Counts vs. Daimyo Essay Counts vs. Daimyo By examining Japan and Medieval Europe s past, both areas had feudalism incorporated in their social structure. Feudalism was a relationship among the upper class, in which a member of the nobility was granted land, and in return promised to protect the king, who gave them their land. The nobilityreferred to are counts in Europe and daimyo in Japan. Both are generally governors who rule over a substantial subsection of the empire with certain duties and obligations. Daimyo and counts are very similar with some slight difference like whether their power is handed down by heredity and how much power they really have. The term count was originally just a companion of princes, but from the time of the early Germanic ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The emperor did not hesitate to dispose any count guilty of bad administration. (3) Not only could the counts be removed by the king but they could also be transferred to another county. The king however did not keep his power forever. For eventually the counts gained more and more power. As their power rose, the empire became decentralized. The people under the counts were not loyal to the king who was miles away, they were loyal to the count that rain their area. He knew was special needs they needed and was able to become more personal with the people he ruled. When the king lost complete power, the lords took over and created manorialism. The Daimyo of Japan have many similarities to the counts in medieval Europe. The term daimyo came to be applied to those military lords who began exercising territorial control over the various private estates into which the country had become divided. (4) They are considered governors who have military control, administer justice and are in charge of taxes. The king granted the first daimyo their land because they had won a battle or some more land for the king. The land is just some kind of repayment for what they did. In return for the land that the king gave them, Daimyo promised to give military support to the government. Each Daimyo is separate from each other and fought over boundaries. They compete for power and this is similar to the uji in ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Anne Frank Analysis The Diary of a Young Girl I see the world being slowly transformed into a wilderness; I hear the approaching thunder that, one day, will destroy us too. I feel the suffering of millions. And yet, when I look up at the sky, I somehow feel that everything will change for the better, that this cruelty too shall end, that peace and tranquility will return once more. Anne Frank. Anne Frank was a Jewish girl in 1942 when her family had to go into hiding in the Secret Annex , an empty section behind her father s company, after her sister Margot was called up to go to a labor camp. Eventually they were joined by the van Daan family (van Pels) and Alfred Dussel (Fritz Pfeffer). Although it might appear that conflict is the main cause because conflict between Nazi Germany and Jews caused the Franks to move into hiding, and there is also conflict between people in the Annex, that s incorrect because change in power turned Hitler and the party into power, and change of living conditions caused conflict in the Annex. In The Diary of a Young Girl, the driving force is change. It is the underlying cause of her starting to talk with Peter, understand her mother, and her life changing. First off, her life changed during the time in the Annex. She notices that herself: If I think now of my life in 1942, it all seems so unreal. It was quite a different Anne who enjoyed that heavenly existence from the Anne who has grown wise within these walls. Yes, it was a heavenly life. Boy friends ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Since 1776, the year when the thirteen original colonies ratified the Constitution, three cornerstone ideas have been the drivers of the country s progress Life, Liberty, and Pursuit of Happiness. Found in the Declaration of Independence, which was written by Thomas Jefferson, these three concepts have been crucial in the lives of all Americans throughout the existence of this nation. Liberty, which includes personal and economic freedom, was the main reason why the colonies decided to break away from the United Kingdom in the eighteenth century. The U.S. went through many economic booms, various recessions, and several major economic depressions throughout its history. Yet, here it is, mostly unscathed and in full glory, still dominating the world stage in economic and foreign affairs. However, in the past two three decades, the economic conditions have changed adversely, especially for the younger generations. It is an undeniable fact that the consumer and labor markets have undergone tremendous adjustments, partly due to people s changing lifestyles, as well as globalization. According to Janet Yellen , the U.S. Federal Reserve Chairwoman s, statement to Congress, the [country s] financial conditions have worsened and the United Stateseconomy has become less supportive of growth in recent years (Web). • 7. Analysis Of Dalton Conley s Big Girls Don t Cry Essay Music has had a huge influence on my life. I listen to music everywhere, in the car, on my way to class, at the gym, etc. The reason I love music so much is because there are so many songs about so many topics. When I found out that we were assigned to write an essay on a song that we loved and relate to a real life issue that we read about in our text, I was excited. I love analyzing the music I m listening to and making sure I know what the artist is talking about rather than just blindly listening to the song. I chose to write about the song Big Girls Don t Cry, by Fergie. I personally relate to this song because I went through a breakup in high school and it was a very difficult time for me. I didn t cry but my whole support system of family and friends expected me to. I think that this song relates to chapter eight in Dalton Conley s book You May Ask Yourself very well. This chapter is about gender and how the world perceives the idea of gender and gender roles. In this song, Fergie describes a girl who has gone through a breakup. This song relates to chapter eight very well because the gender section talks about how women are expected to act and portray themselves. There is a lot of change happening in the country about gender roles and gender stereotypes. People are trying to end gender roles, and expectations of people just because of their gender. I felt that this song would be appropriate to write about since gender issues are very prevalent today. Conley defines ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 8. The Effects Of Stress On A Developing Child The Impact of Stress on a Developing Child Name Course Institution Instructor Date Eiland, L., Romeo, R. D. (2013). Stress and the developing adolescent brain. Neuroscience, 249, 162 171. The adolescent phase is characterized by diverse and dynamic physiological and psychosocial changes. One of the most integral changes, as elicited by the authors, is the response to stressors. With specific regard to this stage, the author denotes that the stage is characterized by major shifts in HPA (hypothalamic pituitary adrenal) axis reactivity that amounts to escalated induced hormonal reactions. The author further explains that the factors that mediate such changes with respect to stress reactivity, as well as the consequent impacts that they may have on an individual, are yet to be substantiated. However, this literary research establishes that the stress sensitive cortical as well as limbic brain areas that are always in constant growth, especially during this stage, are extremely vulnerable to the changes that are prevalent. On the other hand, the perturbations with respect to the adolescent may in turn contribute to heightened psychological dysfunctions inclusive of depression, drug abuse, and anxiety. The adolescent stage is faced with continued brain growth and maturity. These changes are intuitively core in the emotional and physiological behaviors of adolescents. These authors establish that the stressors that are pertinent during this developmental stage have an ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The two texts share a similarity in that both protagonists deal with challenges, uncertainties and insecurities. However, these topics vary in such ways that the stories contrast greatly and potentially appeal to different audiences. Gordie s friends are not as intelligent as him, and in turn he is very reserved as a way of not expressing his intellect. To contrast, Josie has no issues expressing her intellect. She is quite happy to tell people when they are in the wrong, and has no concerns with being brutally honest. This is potentially in lieu of her upbringing and Italian heritage. However, Josie is very insecure about her heritage. Throughout the novel she refers to herself as an illegitimate Italian and is insecure about the expectations that she has to live up to. Josie is constantly anxious about the Italian community and how much they will talk, talk, talk if she is not normal enough . There are times she falls to her insecurity and gives into peer pressure such as wagging the school walkathon, but her insecurities disappear as she learns from her mistakes and realises that following rules is easier. • 11. Ethics, Moral, And Moral Theory 1)What is the aim of moral (ethical) theory that you learned from the reading? Elaborate on this by explaining how you think that having a clearer understanding of ethics can affect your life. The purpose and aim for moral theory has to do with the desire to have some method to follow when we reason about what is morally right and wrong. In other words, the main aim of moral theory is to discover a decision procedure that can be used to guide correct moral reasoning about matters of moral concern (3 Timmons). It is similar in the way that Descartes was trying to find a way and strong structure for knowledge. Instead of knowledge, the aim for ethics and moral theory is to figure out what is morally right and just so then we can gain a better understanding for the world around us. Ethics keeps people and our Earth morally grounded. If we have no expectations, we would not be where we are today in the world with all advances, and friendships. We need to think about a way to come to the procedure in knowing what is right or wrong. 2)What are basic deontic categories? Explain and give your own example of each. Basic deontic categories are used to evaluate our moral actions based on their rightness or wrongness. Deontic comes from the Greek word deon, which is duty. Our duties as a human being is understand our boundaries and evaluate our actions. There are three examples of basic deontic categories. They are obligatory, wrong and optional actions. • 12. Victor Frankenstein Lightning Analysis Lightning is a brief flash of electricity with many consequences. Lightning can be scarring, illuminating, and destructive. It is something to be feared and respected. In the novel Frankenstein, Mary Shelley utilizes the motif of lightning to represent the disastrous life Victor Frankenstein to shows how wrong choices can destroy lives. Victor Frankensteinled a difficult life struck by tragedies. Many catastrophes were marked by the appearance of lightning or the indication of lightning and electricity. The first appearance of this motif came very early in the novel, It was not splintered by the shock, but entirely reduced to thin ribbons of wood (Shelley 22). In the second chapter, Victor reveals that when he was 15, he discovered a tree that had been absolutely decimated. The tree was not destroyed by lightning in the stereotypical, jagged V shape way; instead, it was completely torn apart and shredded. The first lightning strikein the novel was one of great power and strength if it completely destroyed such an old and large oak tree. The first lightning strike was primarily intended as an element of foreshadowing. As one of the first intricate details related by Victor Frankenstein, it served the purpose of setting up the rest of the story. In a literal sense, the lightning served the function of taking away the life of a tree. It was a brief destructive force that carried a large consequence. Similary, Victor made a brief choice that led to much destruction. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Similarities and Difference of Japan and Western Europe Essay Similarities and Difference of Japan and Western Europe Both Japan and Europe were politically similar for many reasons: Each strove to maintain a centralized government. For Japan the leader was to be called an emperor or empress who could only be a part of the royal family if they were related to the Shinto sun goddess. As for Europe, the leader was to be called a king or a queen. Like Japan, not just anybody could become royalty. Kings and queens came from a long descent of an Imperial family. Great elegance and refinement marked life in Japan and Europe s capitals. In Europe and Japan great castles were built marking the capital of each separate country. The royal families promoted the arts, medicine, and science. One of the most memorable of European castles lies just outside of Paris, France. The Palace of Versailles built by King Louis XIV in the seventeenth century. In Japan however, the funerals of the emperors and empresses was more memorable. Kofun Mounds were mounds of earth piled over their ruler s graves. The largest keyhole tomb measured 486m in length, 305m in width, and 33.6m in height. It was provided for Emperor Nintoku. One of the major differences between Europe and Japan was colonization: As individual European countries scrambled to gain more territory to add to their Empires, Japan feared the changes that visiting countries brought. When other countries visited Japan with imports to trade they also brought with them a new religion, Christianity. Japanese Emperors feared the chaos that a new religion would bring and decided to shut the rest of the world out. The Long, Bitter Trail Samuel Pinkhasov The Long, Bitter Trail The Indian Removal Act was very controversial during its time, receiving influence from individuals, local, state and mostly by the federal government. This act gave the president, Andrew Jackson, the authority to make transactions with Indian tribes in the Southern region of the United States. The Indian Removal Act was a deal made by President Andrew Jacksonwith the Indian tribes, forcing them to leave their occupied land, which happened to be federal territories west of the Mississippi River. President Andrew Jackson s primary method in Indian Removal was his speech to Congress regarding his opinions on the act, which included many positive outcomes that would happen if the Indians were to leave the territory. He claimed that this act would not only benefit the United States as a whole, but it would also benefit the Indian people. This benefit was called Manifest Destiny or the idea of the United States expanding its territories from the Atlantic Ocean to the Pacific. This expansion would benefit the country not just economically, but agriculturally as well. However, Manifest Destiny was only an idea, and in order for this idea to become a reality, the governments had to take action. This action in entirety was the removal of the Indian tribes from the southern regions, making them travel through very harsh conditions so that Americans could settle in their former homeland. American bilateral aid, in the form of outright grants or low interest loans, often comes highly qualified and redirects wealth back to the United States by design. The United States no longer keeps track of the level of tied aid, citing statistical difficulties, but USAID reports in 1996 estimated that 71.6% of bilateral aid commitments were tied to the purchase of US goods and services (ActionAid 1). In 1993, USAID generated seven billion dollars in revenue from purchase of American goods and services and claimed it has created thousands of jobs...here at home (Hancock 156). Clearly, the United States reaps a handsome reward from its foreign aid policy. Is this what we want from a supposed exporter of development expertise and the richest country in the world? The two most insidious manifestations of tied aid involve distortions of international markets distortions which bring direct benefit to the United States. Tied aid often requires purchase of American goods and services with markups above international prices. Conversely, tied aid can also involve the sale of goods and services below international prices. Subsidized agricultural exports belong to this category of foreign aid and were the subject of great debate and fury at this year s trade talks in Cancun, Mexico. Aid tied to the sale of expensive American products results in gross inefficiency: goods and services purchased with tied aid tend to be priced well above their actual market value, with ... While there were many influential civilizations in Europe during this time, there was also many civilizations making major advancements as well. There were three things that really caught my eye and these were the Ming Dynasty, Incan Society, and Tenochtitlan, the Aztec capital. While all of these may seem different, they have influenced how we live our life today somehow. I.The Ming Dynasty The Ming Dynasty ruled China from 1368 to 1644 (Morris). The Ming Dynasty was established by King Zhu Yuanshang, who named the dynasty not after Nohis family but the word ming which can mean bright or luminous ( The Chinese Ming ). It had a population around eighty five million making it the largest civilization on Earth. As Professor Clunas points out in the exhibition s exemplary catalog, everything about it was on a grand scale: It had a greater land area, bigger cities (and more big cities), bigger armies, bigger ships, bigger palaces, bigger bells, more literate people, more religious professionals. (Morris). Not only was the Ming Dynasty bigger, it brought many major advances in art, technology, and philosophy during its time. As a result, the electricity required to meet the growing demand is mainly generated from renewable energy resources, and this trend is expected to continue in the next decades [1]. Hydro and wind are major renewable energy resources and are free of greenhouse gas emissions [2]. This makes them valuable environmentally sustainable and economic resources for power generation around the world. A hydro wind hybrid power system is an excellent combination for improved reliability, where the resources abound [3]. This condition imposes unique challenges on the planning and operation of a hydro wind integrated power system in a reliable manner [8]. Previous studies on wind penetration issues and solutions found that the limiting factors of wind integration include penetration level, forecasting reliability, geographic diversity, hydro generation flexibility and control of the overall system [6]. Control is a key enabling factor for the deployment of renewable energy systems [9]. Control techniques such as linear and dynamic programming, genetic algorithms, and neural networks, proposed by past research, for the control and economic dispatch of renewable energy systems, have not been acknowledged to be error free [3]. Two major flaws identified in existing techniques include the lack of ease of use, and adaptability to new situations and evolving regulations [3]. These flaws pose major operational challenges to utilities and thus, make control technologies optimization an imperative research endeavor. In 1998, the North American Electric Reliability Corporation (NERC) Policy 1 Generation Control and Performance Standard (CPS) was enforced to ensure effective frequency control in interconnected power systems. Therefore, the course has given me food for thought via films which tackle social issues causing me to rethink the ways I understand these issues as well as understand filmrhetoric to gain a deeper knowledge of how society understood these problems. Cinema also allows viewers to gain a sense of the past, this is especially true of the course since the films we ve watched were opened 1959 or before. In this way, I have been able to understand historical events (such as the dust bowl, the great depression, and the red scare) through characters who are relatable, causing me to understand that though time and geography may differ between me and these characters, there exist timeless truths of humanity. The course has also allowed me to extend myself intellectually. Before enrolling in this course, I had little knowledge about cinema and its place in our society. The course has provided me with a new found appreciation for the art of film which is an important subject in academia rather than just an elective. Pooled interdependency means, that actors do not interact straightly, but contribute individual pieces to the whole. Even though they are not directly linked, their performance affects each other. Sequential interdependency has a serial form. There is the direct interdependency of units on each other: the output of the entity becomes the input for the followed one. Both parts make contributions to and are sustained by the whole. In case of reciprocal interdependency, the outputs of each become the inputs for the others, but not in a serial form. Each unit poses contingency for the other. Reciprocal interdependency has the highest level of complexity and dominates in construction projects, which shows the need for the highest level of integration. (Baccarini, 1996) Thompson (1967) suggests that sequential interdependency consists of the elements of pooled interdependency, whereas reciprocal interdependency embraces the elements of both pooled and sequential. The second decision looked at will be deciding if the received data is correct and valid to accept and use. This decision can be either intuitive analytical. Analytical is the correct way to make the decision however. The decision is analytical because pilots are supposed to verify all the information that was used to compute the takeoff data such as wind, altimeter, flap setting, and runway. That takes additional time but is the correct method. Most pilots make the decision using intuitive decisions making. Pilots receive preliminary takeoff data during their preflight. If the v speeds on the final takeoff data received is within a knot or two of the preliminary takeoff data v speeds pilots will use that as their check. They can accomplish that much quicker and use it as a shortcut. If any of the information isn t correct for the situation it is important pilots catch it or it can lead to invalid data being used. • 40. Rhetorical Analysis of President Woodrow Wilsons War Message With the status of the country s belligerency heavily in question, an apprehensive President Woodrow Wilson prepared to request from an unmotivated and unprepared country a declaration of war against Germany. After exerting every attempt possible to retain the peace and honor of the United States, the President was finally forced to choose between the two, in which he opted for the latter (Seymour 26). As he sat down to compose his congressional address proposing war, the uncertainty of his decision overwhelmed him. He confided to a member of his cabinet, Frank Cobb, that he had never been as unsure about anything in his life as the judgment he was making for the nation (Baker 506). He labeled the conflict as a war against all nations exemplifying the distress that other countries have experienced due to the unbiased and relentless bombing of their own neutral ships (Safire 111). By associating the United States with other friendly countries who are also at odds with Germany, Wilson s cry for war seemed more convincing. He went on to assert that the choice made by the U.S must be befitting to the singular characteristics of the country and that they must be very clear what their motives upon entry into the war were: not vengeance or profession of physical might, but to defend the principles of peace and justice and to set up amongst the free people of the world an observance of these ideals (Safire 113). We were entering the war not to battle with the German people, but to combat a greater menace, the system that had impended these violations (Baker 512). The president proceeded with regard to his stance on neutrality. Aware of pacifists like Henry Cabot Lodge in the audience, Wilson appealed to those who had not forgotten his promises of keeping America out of war. He admitted that his assumption that armed neutrality would be adequate in safeguarding his people from unlawful violence was in fact impossible and he had failed to assert our neutral rights with arms, our right to use the seas against unlawful interference, our right to keep our people safe against unlawful violence ... • 44. Essay On College Athletes Are Not Paid College athletes have always been worked beyond imagine, and it is ridiculous to think that even in today s society, college athletes are not paid. Unlike regular college students, student athletes are not able to work jobs or make extra money because they put over forty hours a week in to their respective sport. More often than not collegeathletes are taken advantage of because they put their bodies at risk for injury and have no insurance or income to make it worthwhile. Of course, some college athletes do go on to make millions of dollars, but that is only the case for a small percentage of college athletes, and since college sports brings in billions of dollars a year, college athletes should earn at least a small profit. Furthermore,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... According to Allen Sack, athletes are already essentially paid to play, by getting to go to college for free, but they also deserve the same rights and benefits as other employees, which could include medical benefits, workers compensation when injured, and the right to build financial security for their family while in college, and the denial of these rights is morally unconscionable (Sack). It does not make sense that college athletes are not paid because these athletes are the sole reason for popularity in the college athletic apparel market, which brings in millions of dollars a year, yet college athletes do not see a dime, even though they are the reason for sold jerseys and other apparel. Even worse is the fact that college athletes are prone to getting injured and a rising star with a great future ahead of him or her can have their contract (scholarships) canceled once a school realizes that they will no longer be bringing value or money to their school. Of course, this sounds cruel, but it is the reality for some college athletes, and it is an option that must be extinguished because not only do regular students deserve reassurance and stability, but college athletes do ...
