The Modern Era Of Hypnosis And Hypnotherapy
The modern era of hypnosis and hypnotherapy began with Franz Anton Mesmer, the Viennese
physician. Mesmer favored an altogether gentler approach, and his devotion to his patients was quite
extraordinary. His breakthrough case was that of Franzl Oesterline, a 27 year old woman suffering
from what Mesmer described as a convulsive malady, the most troublesome symptoms of which was
that the blood rushed to her head and there set up the most cruel toothaches and earaches, followed by
delirium, rage, vomiting and swooning . These symptoms were so severe that Fraulein Oesterline
moved into Mesmer s house to receive round the clock care. Returning to the theories of his student
days, Mesmer introduced a cure by using a magnet to disrupt the gravitational tides adversely
affecting his patient. He successfully induced in Fraulein Oesterline the sensation of a fluid draining
rapidly from her body, taking her illness with it. Her recovery after that was complete and virtually
instantaneous (Kirsch et.al., 1995). From a modern perspective, we can see that the results were
produced by the hypnotic suggestion of a fluid draining from the body, a wonderful healing metaphor
that wouldn t be out of place in a 21st century hypnotherapy practice. Even Mesmer realized that the
magnet had nothing to do with the cure. His system rested on the belief that illness was caused by
depleted levels of animal magnetism, and that these could be replenished by the healer transmitting

The War Of Japanese Americans
February 19th, 1942 President Roosevelt authorized the internment of Japanese Americans with
Executive Order 9066, which gave the military the powers to relocate all people of Japanese decent
from Oregon, Washington and Arizona to California. Approximately one hundred and twenty thousand
people were relocated and five thousand community leaders were arrested after the attack on Pearl
Harbor. Japan s rapid military conquest of a large portion of Asia and the Pacific between 1936 and
1942 made its military forces seem unstoppable to Americans. The attack resulted in the internment of
German and Italian citizens of the United States as well in Canada.
Japan leadership believed war between them and the U.S was inevitable, the American Japanese
relationship had significantly deteriorated since the invasion of China by Japan on September 18th,
1931. The Japanese believed that they had done everything possible to avoid the tension between the
two nations. The attack came in direct response to a U.S ultimatum in the form of the Hull Note. On
December 11th, 1941 Germany and Italy declare war on the United States. Hitler and Mussolini were
not required under their Tripartite Pact agreement to declare war on the United States but relations
between the Axis Powers and the U.S had deteriorated since 1937.
The demand put on the American industry by the war machine was massive, with some ten million
men at war and the rest of the male population at work. It was clear the only

Life Changing Events
LIFE CHANGING EVENTS In this essay you had the option to choose a life event that has changed
you. But I chose to give a list of events that has made me who I am instead of just one event that
changed a little part about me. This essay will show what has happened in my life for me to be the
way I am to this day. This is me. First of all there was my grade seven camp. Although I have an
unclear recollection of the camp I still remember the important bits. One thing which I know for sure
is that I never really wanted to go on the camp. The school teachers and my parents had to force me to
go. Two days before the camp started I decided to go. The big reason why I didn t want to go was
because I was very shy and didn t like ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Its amazing how much things u remember about your childhood if you just sit down carefully think
about it. The events that I ve mentioned are probably the only ones that have made me whom I am.
Who knows, if I m 25 years old maybe there will be many more. Maybe an event or change is taking
place right now and I might only realize it later on. I know that some of the events have changed me
for the better and some for worse but what I do know is that it made me wiser. If you think about

how knowledgeable I would be? Those were the events which have most influenced me and made me

Controversial Political Cartoons
In mid two thousand and eight, a New York magazine had circulated a controversial political cartoon
targeting the White House s current residents, the President, and first lady. Within weeks many other
news companies like CBS, NBC, and even Huffington post had some sort of written article on this
controversy. This though had been one of many controversial cartoons they had circulated throughout
their years of business. When they had circulated this one though they didn t expect that big of a
backlash. For them to keep their cartoon on the front page they had a lot of explaining. This led to
interviews and more publicity for their cartoon in question. Think of it, they had brought racism and at
times crass, based on the political perspective,

Summary Of Anna Quindlen Quilt Of A Country
In Anna Quindlen s essay Quilt of a Country, she claims that America is an improbable idea...
(paragraph one) as well as that we are all have different cultures and beliefs, but we have stayed
together against all odds. In paragraph four, Quindlen states other countries with such divisions have
in fact divided into new nations with new names, but not this one, impossibly interwoven even in its
hostilities, meaning that other countries that had these problems with racism and differences have split
into other nations. It is because of this that she says that America is surprising, since we have now
divided. She later mentions in paragraph six how intriguing it is that groups of people who are almost
at war with each other can live together,

With an estimated 11.7 million illegal immigrants in the U.S. today, immigration reform has been a
volatile issue that hasn t been adequately addressed throughout the 21st century. With the last major
overhaul occurring in 1986, when over 3 million immigrants were granted U.S. citizenship, politicians
are saying another major overhaul is needed to address the newer generation of illegal immigrants.
Legislations including the Border Protection, Anti terrorism, and Illegal Immigration Control Act of
2005, the Comprehensive Immigration Reform Act of 2006, and the DREAM act of 2012 have all
tried to address the depressing need for immigration reform but have failed due to lack of bipartisan
support. Still, political leaders urge for ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The main reasons include the close proximity between the two countries and the vast difference in the
quality of life. For most, getting a job at minimum wage provides a much higher standard of living
from what they came from. They are just looking for better jobs and economics opportunities to
support their families that they cannot find in their home country. The average wage in Mexico is
about $4.15 with those in the agricultural industries making even less. 40% of the Mexican population
is under the poverty line, and 25% of workers are underemployed. With such disastrous numbers,
many Mexicans find the U.S. to be extremely attractive.
Flight attendants instruct passengers, in the event of a loss of cabin pressure, to put an oxygen mask
on yourself before you try to help your children or other passengers. The same goes for the U.S. and
illegal immigrants. With massive amounts of poverty, unemployment, and debt in the U.S., the U.S.
must deal with its own problems before it helps others. The federal government has spent $186.8
billion on immigration enforcement since 1986 that has not helped keep illegal immigrants out of the

The Communist Manifesto Calling On The Workers Of The World
Few events in history capture the attention of scholars and the general populace alike more than
revolutionary contentious politics. Revolts and social movements have for centuries brought about the
most radical of changes to the political order of societies, at times even engulfing entire regions of the
world in a contagious, fevered upheaval. Revolutionaries have fought not only against political
systems and institutions such as aristocratic and colonial rule; they have also fought for their beliefs,
values, and ideals. In 1848, Karl Marx and Friedrich Engels published The Communist Manifesto
calling on the workers of the world to unite. Revolutionaries radicalized by the ideas of liberalism and
nationalism took to the barricades as socialists promoting the concept of regional and world revolution
helping to spark the modern spread of the notion referred to as revolutionary waves . What factors are
attributed with influencing an individual to rise up against an entrenched political system and possibly
risk their life to completely upend the historical order of things and wipe the slate clean to enable
present and future generations to create their own reality? Until recently, the power of the people and
their ability to mobilize and demand had often been underestimated. Thomas Schelling once reflected
that tyrants and subjects are in somewhat symmetrical positions. Subjects are capable of denying the
tyrant most of what it wants through refusing to collaborate. The

Character, Morals, Integrity Essay
Character, Morals, Integrity
Morals, character, integrity, what do these words mean....actually, the question is, do you have them. A
man named Dwight Moody once said, Character is what you are in the dark. You cannot see your
morals, character, or integrity, these are only shown as your values. Someone could only show their
own values, which are very important to themselves and everyone else. Integrity is the firm adherence
to a code of especially moral or artistic values. The way you show your integrity, character, and
morals or how they are effect you in either a negative or positive way. There are many causes to how
your values are. So as you know, integrity is very important and it is important to have it.

Laura stated, integrity effects you by either being honest or not. If you are honest, then you have
integrity. People who say that they are going to do something do it. You can now see that character,
morals, and integrity are very important.
Secondly, people may think that their values may not affect them, but they re wrong, they affect them
a lot. Since character describes how you are and what your moral strengths are, having bad character
could make people dislike you because of how you are. On the other hand, if you have good character,
then more people would see how good of a person you are and even more people would like you.
Morals sort of describe the way you make decisions, so having bad morals could guide your life down
the drain, while having good morals could guide your life minute by minute toward noble goals.
Integrity is also very important. Having bad integrity could make you very non trustworthy to others.
Having good integrity would make you very trustworthy to others. Knowing how important they are,
you should always have good or even better character, morals, and integrity.
Also, there are many causes for how your character, morals, and integrity are. One cause could of
course be yourself. By hanging out with the right people and making good decisions, you could have
good values. Yet hanging out with the wrong people and making bad decisions would be having bad
values. Another cause may

The Importance Of Reading And Reading
Reading is an activity we are constantly faced with from the moment we learn to do it basically, just
like walking or sitting down. However, people learn to read in order to communicate, to express, and
to project things that are hidden inside their own minds and they will not come out easily by just
talking. One might need to think, deep enough, and find the words they were looking for. Afterward, it
is up to the person to decide what to do with those words, of course, they want the words to be heard,
but sometimes more is needed. It would be a waste of time if all that effort that was spent just for
thinking ended up in a few words that will vanish in the air. Yes, maybe those words reached someone
else s heart and feelings, but more ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The reader soon makes connections between the characters he is introduced to, and people within his
own life, by analyzing what is in the book, the reader begins to understand and assume what makes
people around him different from him. Empathy is implemented into their brain. However, this is not a
case that is expected to happen all the time. As a book will state in its plot, each person has a different
background, and even the reader has a different background story, which makes each person unique in
mostly every aspect of their life where they get the chance to add at least a minuscule amount of their
personality in. When someone gets the opportunity to read a novel of literature, that person has
enough room to interpret the plot, the characters, the actions that were taken, the causes, and the
effects the way they prefer to. The analysis of a book is completely unique per person and it will never
be the exact same from one to another. As a consequence, a book might not always change someone s
mind, it might be pointless for the reader, as much as it can be meaningful for other, this is one of the
reasons why a book might not always be the antidote to an intolerant personality. Some people read
and understands but the conflicts in their own life go beyond pages and letters, sometimes those
conflicts are deeply attached to their persona and

Latin America
An Overview of Economy, Business and Challenges
Introduction
Latin America suffered during the years of 1980 1990 with political instability and low growth rates.
Nowadays the situation is different, the region is improving towards economic stability and grater
democracy, however the reforms performed during the last decade are still incomplete. High rates of
poverty and bad income distribution remain as the main problems of the region. The last few years has
shown that Latin America economy is getting stronger and growing at unprecedented rates in the
recent decades, making the environment for business much more attractive.

Even inside the region is possible to find examples of favorable effects of a high trade openness, the
experiences of Chile (through unilateral liberalization) and Mexico (strongly benefited from NAFTA
and a bigger trade with USA). One topic pointed by the World Economic Forum on Latin America as
key factor for the development of the region is the necessity to adapt to the increasing participation of
China and India in the economy of the world. At the same time, China is becoming a important
importer of commodities from Latin America and a competitor in textiles and labor intensive
manufacture goods. The region have to take advantage of the opportunities raised by China s growing
economy and, at the same time, adapt to its competition.
Consumer Characteristics
The Latin America consumer market is composed of 550 million emerging consumers, with average
yearly per capita incomes of USD 4,000, immense natural resources and substantial human capital. It
accounts for eight percent of world production and grew by more than five percent in the past three
years. The consumer market in Latin America is very diversified, is not just an aggregate of low
income and poor consumers, as most people would think. It is highly segmented, their differences,

Language Assessment Literacy
Language assessment literacy refers to the familiarity of the stakeholders with measurement practices
and the application of this knowledge to classroom practices and issues of assessing language (Inbar
Lourie, 2008). Appropriate assessment provides teachers with important information about student
performance and about the extent to which learning objectives have been achieved in the classroom.
Despite the importance of student progress assessment (Taylor, 2009; Scarino, 2013), many teachers
and test users have a limited understand¬ing of assessment essentials (Popham, 2009). Competencies
that language teachers need to acquire in order to develop assessment literacy include the ability to
understand proper testing practices, use various means of assessment, interpret assessment results, and
use the results in their teaching (Boyles, 2005). Language teachers, who also fulfill the role of testers,
want a practical text that includes relevant activities. In addition to textbooks, other approaches to
develop assessment literacy are traditional as well as face to face workshops, online tutorials,
reference frameworks, video projects, pre conference workshops, and series of narrative accounts.
This study can be helpful for all stakeholders including language teachers who also are often testers;
an online tutorial is much more beneficial than other ways of assessment literacy, due to its ease of
access and no need for participation (Alderson Huhta, 2005). Using group

Compare And Contrast Persia And Greece
I chose to use legalism for my vocabulary word from this chapter. Legalism is the political philosophy
which advocates for clear rules and harsh punishments when those rules are broken. This is all used as
a means of enforcing the authority of the state. Persia and Greek city states were entirely different in
certain areas of their happenings. Both of these city states were made up of Indo European people
whose legacy came directly from the first civilizations. Even though they were similar in their
population makeup they were very different when it came to the everyday happenings in the cities.

Greece on the other hand was much smaller with a fraction of the Persian population with around 2 3
million people. Greece was made up of hundreds of small city states and small settlements while
Persia was one absolute monarchy. One way Persia became so powerful was with their rich agriculture
while Greece destroyed all of their own rich farmland by causing deforestation and soil erosion. One
of the biggest differences between these two states and the one I believe is the most significant was
their approach to politics. Persia was controlled by the king and said king was in charge of all politics.
Greece was one of the first places to use a system of government where the people managed the affairs
and what went on in politics. I believe that this is significant because they both took a completely

Goals must be stated in measurable terms, i.e., how can you tell you have accomplished that goal?
Identify dates for accomplishing each goal. Setting goals is what drives people to growth and change
within themselves. If one fails to dream and sets goals, it is unlikely the will grow or change (Scott,
2014). Allowing myself to set goals is a personal commitment and a drive to make change. Growing,
educating and knowledge with time allows one to feel safe to dream and thrive to make better and
larger goals. My first goal after obtaining my BSN in April 2017 is to work on myself and my family.
In my career, my goal will be to work on my clinical ladder and seek ways to improve myself and my

reached my goal when I have moved up several levels on the clinical ladder. My plans for professional
development in the next three to 10 15 years will still be working at the bedside spreading my
knowledge to others who are willing to learn. If financially I am able I would like to pursue my MSN.
Being a leader is something that inspires me and I wish to be knowledgeable enough to help and teach
others later in life. The final goal would be to not retire, but to cut down to part time and remain at the
bedside. I would love to travel and volunteer my time to others in need of healthcare outside of the
US. I will know I have reached this goal when I am at peace

Hesitation, Repression, and Indecisiveness in the Love...
Impotent, pathetic, inadequate, timid. Everyone knows a J. Alfred Prufrock, and everyone has a bit of
him in himself or herself. Just like Prufrock we readers have been witness to the pretentious triviality
of others, the women who come and go/ Talking of Michelangelo (lines 13 14), and the lack of
confidence which prevents the realization of desires. Eliot s careful choice of epigraph from Dante s
Inferno reverberates throughout this poem as the logic behind Prufrock sharing his feelings with his
listener. Just as Guido da Montefeltro is certain his listener shares a similar fate as himself, so to does
Prufrock believe that his listener is like himself, and will never turn back and descend the stair (line
39). Prufrock s ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Death also signifies Prufrock s lack of social contact and sexual stimulation. The word etherized not
only means to numb, but is also suggestive of the word ethereal. Prufrock s repressed desire can be
seen in his frustration with the reality of social/emotional interaction and also with the ethereal,
inexpressible inner desire of his heart, not just to ask an overwhelming question , but further, to say
exactly what he means as in line 104. Unable to force the moment to its crisis leaves Prufrock
emotionally impotent. Unlike Marvell and his coy mistress Prufrock does not have all the time in the
world to malinger, stretched on the floor. Trivializing his message of desire, as in the rhyme of lines
79 80 or referring to himself as John the Baptist only further hinders the expression of his desire. And
we can only imagine in Eliot s use of religious images in which Prufrock wept and fasted, wept and
prayed that Prufrock is fervently hoping for the self confidence to express his desires. Yet after the
social banter/conventions of the cups, the marmalade, the tea , the porcelain and some talk of you and
me Prufrock is still unable to seize the moment, to turn desire into action. Presuming that Prufrock is
largely reflecting on these issues himself rather than to another listener one notices that he is unable to
even mention his desires to himself, so deeply

Science anymore. Anyone with a reasonable physics degree and access to a good technical library
could design a workable atomic bomb in less than 6 months, so why hasn t anyone. Maybe there has
been, no one is exactly sure. In the last 52 years there has been enough nuclear warheads made to
destroy every city in the world and still have thousands left over.(Church 40) This all happened during
the Cold War, a period of 45 years

war. This event it really kind of woke the United States and

Kremlin and the white house.
The main question today is who has control of the weapons. The former superpower Russia is in
political turmoil. Now instead of two people with their hands on the button there could be dozens!
Even the Central Intelligence Agency director John Deutch said he is afraid of loose nukes being

Liberation In Latin America
Cultures from around the world have evolved to hold unique values and standards, but one common
thread binds them all together liberation. The theme of liberation or freedom manifests itself in works
from all over the world, taking on different aspects to fit the time in which the story takes place. In
Latin America, writers explore the concept of social realism, in which an artist depicts contemporary
life realistically in order to make a political comment on society s current situation. This stems from a
long history of turmoil and unrest in the region, including corrupt leaders and poor living and working
conditions for a majority of the population. Similarly, in Africa, the colonial takeover and exploitation
of small villages led to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
African oppression through leadership began in the late nineteenth Century with the Berlin
Conference (1884 85). During this time, the newly industrialized European powers gathered together
in order to divide Africa up amongst themselves for imperialism. Imperialism is a form of government
in which a mother country maintains governmental control of a nation, meanwhile extracting the
country s natural resources. This practice came about with industrialization since the growing
infrastructure led to a call for more materials. Colonizers would gain the trust of a clan through trade,
religion, and the wealth the Europeans brought with them. After trust was established they began their
tyrannical rule. In Things Fall Apart, the main character, Okonkwo, documents his clan s take over. He
came quietly and peacefully with his religion. We were amused at his foolishness and allowed him to
stay. Now he has won our brothers, and our clan can no longer act like one (Achebe 152). Once
Okonkwo realizes his clan s grave mistake in taking the missionaries in, he attempts to strike a
rebellion, however fails, eventually reverting to suicide to free himself from the mess the European
colonizers placed him and his people (the Igbo) in. It is in this way that African literature exemplifies
the theme of liberation.

community. Many things have shaped the way the Polynesians developed. The country of origin for
the Polynesians heavily influenced their own traditions and culture. When the Polynesians first settled
in Polynesia their traditions most likely would have been the same as those of their country of origin.
Eventually these customs evolved into different rituals, unique to the Polynesians. Some traditions in
Polynesia include the art of tattooing and tracking their genealogies. When the Europeans first came to
Polynesia, they too influenced the way Polynesia developed. The Polynesians culture and traditions
were discouraged and it was many years before the Polynesians could safely go back to their old way
of living. Due to these influences, Polynesia became the tribal community that it is today.

How Cuneiform Writing Has Changed The World
1) Cuneiform writing is known to be an ancient writing system and was created when early
civilizations needed a way to keep record of events that has happened year to year such as; grains
produced last year, the livestock that they had and the total cost of livestock. The system was
discovered in 500 BCE by the Sumerians and Mesopotamians. The use of Cuneiform writing led to
more advanced forms of writing as the years went on, it broadened their minds and later lead to the
use of papyrus as a means for portable media.
2) The printing press was such an important and revolutionary development because it allowed books
to be mass produced, before the printing press all books had to be hand written. This created countless
errors in the print and limited overall production of books due to the required time it takes to
handwrite a book. The first printed book that was known to have changed the world was the
Gutenberg Bible , produced in 1455. It was the first mass produced written word.

Privatization of American Prisons
Introduction: In America today, there is a trend in corrections of taking the duty of running prisons out
of the hands of state and federal authorities and contracting it out to private organizations. Along with
the drift to privatization is a plethora of research pertaining to the subject taking many different
approaches to analyzing the effectiveness. The majority of research focuses on one of three areas. The
first questioning whether or not it is cost effective to make the switch. The second being the ethical
problems that can and have risen from the privatization of prisons. The third being a wide painting of
the change and the implications it has on society as a whole. When the changes came about, there

In this form, nongovernmental entities own, staff, and operate correctional facilities. (Austin, 2001)
Financial Cost/benefit of privatization: The bulk of the research was performed in the late 90s after
many years had passed since the implementation of privatized prisons got a substantial boost in1988
(Austin, 2001). Much of the literature centers on the cost effectiveness of contracting out prisons. The
main focus of the research is first and foremost, are they saving money by contracting out. Second, if
they are saving money, is it enough money to justify the other problems that naturally accompany the
for profit prisons model. It is important to understand what it means to contract correctional
institutions out to private ownership. Most of the current prisons that have been contracted out run on
a similar contract. A private entity either builds a prison to house inmates or is given control of an
already built prison. The private corporation is then paid a base dollar amount for each prisoner they
house in the facility. In 2001, Emerging issues on privatized prisons found many striking statistics
concerning the privatization of prisons. It is estimated that worldwide there were 184 privately
operated correctional facilities. Within the United States, a total of 158 private correctional facilities
are operating. A substantial portion of the worlds privately owned correctional facilities are in

Baseball Descriptive Paragraph
KLANG! The most satisfying sound that a baseball player can hear. That is the sound of a solid hit
that every player dreams on getting every time they are up to bat. Now, a lot of people do not get how
others in the world think this very simple sport is any fun. Well, they have never had the feeling of

the dugout. From this place I can really take in the whole stadium. The crowd behind home plate is all
on their feet. All the players in both dugouts are screaming. The players in the field are focused as a
lion while hunting its prey. The batter watches two pitches, then makes solid contact. I can tell because
it makes the beautiful, TING, noise when the ball hits the sweet spot of the bat. He also gets a double,
and the runner on second scores. Tie game with a runner on second, and I am up to bat. I stroll up to

pitcher. He nods. I am expecting a fastball, as the pitcher gets set. I am a little nervous, so I watch the
first pitch zip by. I look out in the outfield, and see the outfielders playing very far up, so they can
throw out the runner at home. The pitcher gets set again, and comes with another fastball. I see it

Examining Four Types of Diversity Essay examples
While diversity is often a term used to refer specifically to cultural differences, diversity applies to all
the qualities that make people different. From a management perspective, the key to diversity is to
understand how different types of diversity and different demographic characteristics can impact
human behavior. The four types of diversity that will be examined are: occupation, differences in
skills and abilities, personality traits, and value and attitudes. For each type of diversity, the impact on
individual behavior will be described.
One type of diversity is occupation. For example, an individual in a professional occupation is more
likely to make his or her own decisions and is also more ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The same employee may have had close relationships with subordinates before they became
supervisor. This example shows how occupation impacts behavior and how a change in position can
alter individual behavior. The next type of diversity is differences in skills and abilities. One of the
most important factors when considering skills and abilities is that individuals will often adapt their
behavior so they are making use of what they consider their positive skills and abilities. For example,
consider the case of an individual who believes that they have very effective written communication
skills but very poor oral communication skills. This individual is likely to adapt his or her behavior so
they write as much as possible, while avoiding communicating orally. As a specific example, this
individual might prepare memos or write emails as a way of communicating with their employees,
instead of having a meeting with employees. This illustrates how people tend to adapt their behavior
so they are using their positive qualities, while avoiding having to use their weaker skills and abilities.
Another type of diversity is personality traits. Personality traits are defined as recurring patterns of
behavior such as friendliness, social dominance, conventionality, emotional adjustment, and aesthetic
inclination (Seamon Kenrick, 1994). As this definition shows, personality traits are actually defined
because of the observed behavior they result in. The link

Domino Effect Essay
Vietnam constantly battled for independence after it became a colony of France in the late 19th
century. After declaring their independence from the French at the end of World War II, Vietnam
became divided and started a civil war between the communist North and the democratic South.
Across the ocean, the United States feared that Communism rising in the Soviet Union and China
would threaten the independence of their country; to prevent this from occurring, the United States
supported the South in the Vietnamese civil war. The attempt of the United States to protect their

Classicalism vs. Positivism
Classicalism vs. Positivism What is crime? What makes people commit crimes and how can we stop
it? These, and many other questions similar to these, are asked by criminologists everyday.
Criminology is an ever growing field, mainly because there is more and more research occurring and
new theories linking people and crime coming out everyday. Below the main field of criminology
there are many subfields that have different theories and philosophies on what they believe link
criminal behavior. Two of the main criminology perspectives are Classical Criminology and Positivist

Yet another criticism is their belief in deterrence. Research has shown that there is little correlation
between punishment and crime, meaning that there is not a significant amount of information showing
that deterrence actually works leading it into a controversial issue. People commit crimes for many
different reasons that classicalists fail to acknowledge. Classical criminology was the first big step into
what makes up the field of criminology today, dominating around the eighteenth century. A change in
the way information was assembled with the emergence of the scientific method challenged the
classical perspective and introduced the theory of Positivism. Positivist criminology emerged in the
nineteenth century after people stopped relying on pure thought and reason and started to observe and
analyze to understand the way things worked. Positive philosophy was an explicit repudiation or
reaction to the critical and negative philosophy of the Enlightenment [Classicalist] thinkers (Bohm
21). Positivism has two main elements: One is the belief that human behavior is a function of forces
beyond a person s control [and] the second aspect of positivism is embracing the scientific method to
solve problems (Siegel 7 8). . Positivism is known for the use of science and the scientific method in
their research. Positivists such as Lombroso, whom is considered the father of criminology, set the
stage for examination of external forces

speech are about connecting the dots (how he learned how every action/event in life is connected),
love and loss (how he found love and lost things/people close to him), and death (where Jobs
discusses his own battle with cancer and the fear of dying). In his first short story to the audience, Jobs
does a successful job with his rhetorical method. He repeats the phrase connecting the dots during the
speech. He mentions that people can only connect those dots of life looking backwards which gives a
powerful meaning to the audience. Not only with the starting but he ends his first story by telling that

Deicer Lab Essay
Abstract Through three different experiments we were to find the quality of NaCl as a deicer. These
experiments included testing the freezing point depression of NaCl in solution at two different
concentrations, testing for the H of an aqueous NaCl solution, and combining NaCl with MgCl2 in an
aqueous solution to test for freezing point depression. Through these various experiments we found
NaCl to be the best deicer for our region due to its proficient freezing point depression and its cost
efficiency.

As scientists we were given the task to find the overall effectiveness of NaCl as a deicer. In choosing
the best deicer we are comparing NaCl to KCl, MgCl2, and CaCl2. We believed NaCl to be the best

Analysis Day One
Through our data acquisition on day one our predicted values for the change in temperature of our
NaCl solution in water was slightly off. This was most likely due to recording the freezing
temperature sometime after the precise moment of the solution freezing. However, we predicted that
as we doubled our concentration of NaCl in solution the freezing point depression would also double
which is consistent with our results. Through our day one experiments we were able to better
understand the ability of NaCl as a deicer by understanding how the freezing point depression changes
based on concentration. We could further test these results by testing with different concentrations of
NaCl.

Conducting The HRDNI
It is important to remember when conducting the HRDNI, that there are three forces that investigators

The Pseudo Effect Of Synthetic Cannabinoid
The Pseudo Effect of Synthetic Cannabinoid
As of November of 2016, 26 out of 50 states in the U.S. have legalized cannabis for either medical or
recreational use. Many of the remaining states have decriminalized the possession of small quantities
and others are on the ballot to legalize the plant. Most would agree that the legalization of cannabis
alone is one of the most controversial topics in the recent years. However, there is a newer, better and
more sought after product in the market. Synthetic cannabinoid has multiple street names such as K2
and Spice . The line of product is now in popular demand due to its similar effect, convenience and
price compared to the raw cannabis bud. However, this synthetic cannabinoid has caused a high
number of patients to visit the emergency room as well as reports to local poison control centers, and

as meat and dairy, the EU and Mexico partnership is still one of the most comprehensive in the world
s economy. In 2014, the EU exported €27.4 billion worth of goods to Mexico and €18 billion in
imports. FDI from Mexico to EU amounted for €22.6 billion(inflow) in 2013 while the FDI outflow
was around €102.3 billion.
The primary objective of this paper is to investigate the effects of two policies that are related to Trans
Atlantic Free Trade Agreement (FTA). Firstly, we will explore the effects of bilateral FTA between
Canada and the EU on different Canadian sectors (policy 1). Secondly, to investigate the economic
effect if there is a free trade agreement between EU and NAFTA (Policy 2). There are various
techniques that could be utilized to carry out this analysis. In this paper we use Computable General

Janie s Vision Under The Pear Tree Analysis
Hurston s description of Janie s vision under the pear tree conveys the ideals of love and intimacy. As
shown by the follow description: She saw a dust bearing bee sink into the sanctum of a bloom; the
thousand sister calyxes arch to meet the love embrace and the ecstatic shiver of the tree from root to
tiniest branch creaming in every blossom and frothing with delight. So this was a marriage! She had
been summoned to behold a revelation. Then Janie felt a pain remorseless sweet that left her limp and
languid. From this description, one can see that Janie sees the pear tree and bee is very intimate and
this starts representing love to her. This vision is an awakening for Janie and she starts wanting to be
intimate and loved. Her future ideals ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Nanny believes in marriage and material wealth as the ideal goal for a black woman. This is due to her
past as a slave and her and her daughter s unmarried status due to them being forced into illicit
relationships and raped. So all through her life, nanny has seen having property, being protected by
your husband, and having time for leisure as an ideal. However, this point of view has limitations as
shown by when Janie complains to her nanny about her lack of love and her nanny is unable to
comprehend it and instead says You come head wid yo mouf full uh foolishness on uh busy day. Yeah
you got uh prop to lean on all yo bawn days, and big protection, and everybody s got tuh tip the hat to
you and call you Mis Killicks, and you come worryin me bout love. This lack of understanding shows
that nanny s point of view is limited, because, unlike Janie, she doesn t realize there s more to life than
status and wealth. The book doesn t support this viewpoint either, because it is clear that Janie is the
happiest when she is living and working with tea cake in the Everglades. Her happiness proves that
she didn t need the wealth or leisure lifestyle, she just needed to be loved and cared for by her

Metallic Copper Lab
Introduction:
Metallic copper and its compounds have played an important role in history, from ancient civilizations
to today s economy. It also has biological and environmental significance. In this experiment, we
explored copper in its metallic and ionic forms and examined the reactions which form metallic
copper and copper compounds as well as calculated percentage yield of final metallic copper product.
Materials and Methods:
In this experiment, 5 different chemical reactions took place before the final percentage yield of
metallic copper was calculated. For the first reaction, a fume hood made up of a funnel and some
rubber tubing attached to a tap was set up above a 50 ml beaker. Next, 0.2574 g of copper turnings
were measured out and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The solution went from being black and cloudy to green and transparent, indicating that there is no
longer a precipitate in the solution.
In the fifth chemical reaction copper sulfate reacted with zinc resulting in this equation:
CuSO₄(aq) + Zn(s) → Cu(s) + ZnSO₄(aq)
This is a single displacement, redox reaction as zinc replaces the copper cation in copper sulfate
resulting in metallic copper solid and zinc sulfate. This is evident from the observations as initially a
black solid formed in the solution but as the hydrochloric acid was added and it reacted away the
excess zinc a reddish brown solid formed, which is copper, indicating that zinc displaced the copper
cation. It is a redox reaction as copper is reduced as its oxidation number decreases from +2 to 0 and
zinc is oxidized as its oxidation number increases from 0 to

Case Of 1928-Olmstead V. United States
1928 Olmstead v.United States Supreme court rules federal investigators can wiretap into suspects
phones legally, and use those conversations as evidence. Roy Olmstead, a suspected bootlegger, was
bugged in the basement of his office, and also in the streets surrounding his home. He was later
convicted based on that evidence. An appeal was raised on the grounds that the wiretapped data
violated the defendant s Fourth and Fifth Amendment. It was decided that the wiretapped data did not
violate the Fifth Amendment, because he was not forced to say anything incriminating, and did not
violate the Fourth Amendment because wiretapping is not considered search and seizure (which would
require a physical search of a person s belongings or possessions.) This event is important because it
decided that wiretapping was legal and did not infringe on the Fourth or Fifth Amendment rights of
criminals, effectively allowing wiretapping to be used in investigation and trial as evidence. In
addition, it defined your Fourth Amendment rights to only apply to physical materials or properties of
yours, not conversations or other non tangible things, and said that since wiretapped individuals were
not forced to discuss incriminating information, the Fifth Amendment protection against self
incrimination did not apply. It set a major precedent that would stand for nearly forty years, when it
was overturned in Katz v. United States. 1945 The predecessor to the NSA receives copies of every

American Born Chinese Book Report
In the book American Born Chinese, Gene Luen Yang gives us an entertaining story of a common
simple goal to fit in. The book being intended for a middle school audience; it does an outstanding job
of relating to adults as well in many ways. Reading the book has taught and reminded me of many
things. Such as; accepting yourself, being who you are, and not changing for others. These goals are
helpful when you re getting situated in a new environment. Not only does Yang relate to middle school
students, but to a variety of readers in many age levels and not just one in particular. My impression
on the book was very positive. I loved how amusing it was, funny, and at the same time teaches a
lesson in each different story it tells. The book is written in a comic book like theme. I enjoyed how
universal it could also be, because it explains issues of stereotypes. No matter what race or ethnic you
are you can t help but being categorized wherever you go. The stories made me reflect about stories of
how I felt wanting to fit in somewhere new. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The monkey king in the story in the beginning is content with himself, so the thing that makes him
want to change is he attends a dinner and is told to leave because he s a monkey. The experience of
being unworthy for a dinner party makes him feel as if he isn t good enough. He wants proves to
himself and others how much more he is than just a monkey he changes his looks, attitude, and values.
During the process his ego becomes bigger than he is, yet he s no match for the Supreme Power. This
story can be learned as a lesson of even though people don t except you what s more important is you
can accept

  • 2. The Modern Era Of Hypnosis And Hypnotherapy The modern era of hypnosis and hypnotherapy began with Franz Anton Mesmer, the Viennese physician. Mesmer favored an altogether gentler approach, and his devotion to his patients was quite extraordinary. His breakthrough case was that of Franzl Oesterline, a 27 year old woman suffering from what Mesmer described as a convulsive malady, the most troublesome symptoms of which was that the blood rushed to her head and there set up the most cruel toothaches and earaches, followed by delirium, rage, vomiting and swooning . These symptoms were so severe that Fraulein Oesterline moved into Mesmer s house to receive round the clock care. Returning to the theories of his student days, Mesmer introduced a cure by using a magnet to disrupt the gravitational tides adversely affecting his patient. He successfully induced in Fraulein Oesterline the sensation of a fluid draining rapidly from her body, taking her illness with it. Her recovery after that was complete and virtually instantaneous (Kirsch et.al., 1995). From a modern perspective, we can see that the results were produced by the hypnotic suggestion of a fluid draining from the body, a wonderful healing metaphor that wouldn t be out of place in a 21st century hypnotherapy practice. Even Mesmer realized that the magnet had nothing to do with the cure. His system rested on the belief that illness was caused by depleted levels of animal magnetism, and that these could be replenished by the healer transmitting some of his own ... The War Of Japanese Americans February 19th, 1942 President Roosevelt authorized the internment of Japanese Americans with Executive Order 9066, which gave the military the powers to relocate all people of Japanese decent from Oregon, Washington and Arizona to California. Approximately one hundred and twenty thousand people were relocated and five thousand community leaders were arrested after the attack on Pearl Harbor. Japan s rapid military conquest of a large portion of Asia and the Pacific between 1936 and 1942 made its military forces seem unstoppable to Americans. The attack resulted in the internment of German and Italian citizens of the United States as well in Canada. Japan leadership believed war between them and the U.S was inevitable, the American Japanese relationship had significantly deteriorated since the invasion of China by Japan on September 18th, 1931. The Japanese believed that they had done everything possible to avoid the tension between the two nations. The attack came in direct response to a U.S ultimatum in the form of the Hull Note. On December 11th, 1941 Germany and Italy declare war on the United States. Hitler and Mussolini were not required under their Tripartite Pact agreement to declare war on the United States but relations between the Axis Powers and the U.S had deteriorated since 1937. Revolts and social movements have for centuries brought about the most radical of changes to the political order of societies, at times even engulfing entire regions of the world in a contagious, fevered upheaval. Revolutionaries have fought not only against political systems and institutions such as aristocratic and colonial rule; they have also fought for their beliefs, values, and ideals. In 1848, Karl Marx and Friedrich Engels published The Communist Manifesto calling on the workers of the world to unite. Revolutionaries radicalized by the ideas of liberalism and nationalism took to the barricades as socialists promoting the concept of regional and world revolution helping to spark the modern spread of the notion referred to as revolutionary waves . What factors are attributed with influencing an individual to rise up against an entrenched political system and possibly risk their life to completely upend the historical order of things and wipe the slate clean to enable present and future generations to create their own reality? However, people learn to read in order to communicate, to express, and to project things that are hidden inside their own minds and they will not come out easily by just talking. One might need to think, deep enough, and find the words they were looking for. • 13. Language Assessment Literacy Language assessment literacy refers to the familiarity of the stakeholders with measurement practices and the application of this knowledge to classroom practices and issues of assessing language (Inbar Lourie, 2008). Appropriate assessment provides teachers with important information about student performance and about the extent to which learning objectives have been achieved in the classroom. Despite the importance of student progress assessment (Taylor, 2009; Scarino, 2013), many teachers and test users have a limited understand¬ing of assessment essentials (Popham, 2009). Competencies that language teachers need to acquire in order to develop assessment literacy include the ability to understand proper testing practices, use various means of assessment, interpret assessment results, and use the results in their teaching (Boyles, 2005). Language teachers, who also fulfill the role of testers, want a practical text that includes relevant activities. In addition to textbooks, other approaches to develop assessment literacy are traditional as well as face to face workshops, online tutorials, reference frameworks, video projects, pre conference workshops, and series of narrative accounts. Unable to force the moment to its crisis leaves Prufrock emotionally impotent. African oppression through leadership began in the late nineteenth Century with the Berlin Conference (1884 85). This practice came about with industrialization since the growing infrastructure led to a call for more materials. The use of Cuneiform writing led to more advanced forms of writing as the years went on, it broadened their minds and later lead to the use of papyrus as a means for portable media. 2) The printing press was such an important and revolutionary development because it allowed books to be mass produced, before the printing press all books had to be hand written. This created countless errors in the print and limited overall production of books due to the required time it takes to handwrite a book. The first printed book that was known to have changed the world was the Gutenberg Bible , produced in 1455. It was the first mass produced written word. 3) ... Privatization of American Prisons Introduction: In America today, there is a trend in corrections of taking the duty of running prisons out of the hands of state and federal authorities and contracting it out to private organizations. Along with the drift to privatization is a plethora of research pertaining to the subject taking many different approaches to analyzing the effectiveness. The majority of research focuses on one of three areas. The first questioning whether or not it is cost effective to make the switch. Much of the literature centers on the cost effectiveness of contracting out prisons. The main focus of the research is first and foremost, are they saving money by contracting out. Second, if they are saving money, is it enough money to justify the other problems that naturally accompany the for profit prisons model. It is important to understand what it means to contract correctional institutions out to private ownership. Most of the current prisons that have been contracted out run on a similar contract. A private entity either builds a prison to house inmates or is given control of an already built prison. The private corporation is then paid a base dollar amount for each prisoner they house in the facility. In 2001, Emerging issues on privatized prisons found many striking statistics concerning the privatization of prisons. • 27. Examining Four Types of Diversity Essay examples While diversity is often a term used to refer specifically to cultural differences, diversity applies to all the qualities that make people different. From a management perspective, the key to diversity is to understand how different types of diversity and different demographic characteristics can impact human behavior. The four types of diversity that will be examined are: occupation, differences in skills and abilities, personality traits, and value and attitudes. For each type of diversity, the impact on individual behavior will be described. One type of diversity is occupation. For example, an individual in a professional occupation is more likely to make his or her own decisions and is also more ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The same employee may have had close relationships with subordinates before they became supervisor. This example shows how occupation impacts behavior and how a change in position can alter individual behavior. The next type of diversity is differences in skills and abilities. One of the most important factors when considering skills and abilities is that individuals will often adapt their behavior so they are making use of what they consider their positive skills and abilities. For example, consider the case of an individual who believes that they have very effective written communication skills but very poor oral communication skills. This individual is likely to adapt his or her behavior so they write as much as possible, while avoiding communicating orally. As a specific example, this individual might prepare memos or write emails as a way of communicating with their employees, instead of having a meeting with employees. This illustrates how people tend to adapt their behavior so they are using their positive qualities, while avoiding having to use their weaker skills and abilities. Another type of diversity is personality traits. Personality traits are defined as recurring patterns of behavior such as friendliness, social dominance, conventionality, emotional adjustment, and aesthetic inclination (Seamon Kenrick, 1994). As this definition shows, personality traits are actually defined because of the observed behavior they result in. The link ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Classical criminology was the first big step into what makes up the field of criminology today, dominating around the eighteenth century. A change in the way information was assembled with the emergence of the scientific method challenged the classical perspective and introduced the theory of Positivism. Positivist criminology emerged in the nineteenth century after people stopped relying on pure thought and reason and started to observe and analyze to understand the way things worked. Positive philosophy was an explicit repudiation or reaction to the critical and negative philosophy of the Enlightenment [Classicalist] thinkers (Bohm 21). • 41. Metallic Copper Lab Introduction: Metallic copper and its compounds have played an important role in history, from ancient civilizations to today s economy. It also has biological and environmental significance. In this experiment, we explored copper in its metallic and ionic forms and examined the reactions which form metallic copper and copper compounds as well as calculated percentage yield of final metallic copper product. Materials and Methods: In this experiment, 5 different chemical reactions took place before the final percentage yield of metallic copper was calculated. For the first reaction, a fume hood made up of a funnel and some rubber tubing attached to a tap was set up above a 50 ml beaker. Next, 0.2574 g of copper turnings were measured out and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The solution went from being black and cloudy to green and transparent, indicating that there is no longer a precipitate in the solution. In the fifth chemical reaction copper sulfate reacted with zinc resulting in this equation: CuSO₄(aq) + Zn(s) → Cu(s) + ZnSO₄(aq) This is a single displacement, redox reaction as zinc replaces the copper cation in copper sulfate resulting in metallic copper solid and zinc sulfate. This is evident from the observations as initially a black solid formed in the solution but as the hydrochloric acid was added and it reacted away the excess zinc a reddish brown solid formed, which is copper, indicating that zinc displaced the copper cation. It is a redox reaction as copper is reduced as its oxidation number decreases from +2 to 0 and zinc is oxidized as its oxidation number increases from 0 to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 42. Case Of 1928-Olmstead V. United States 1928 Olmstead v.United States Supreme court rules federal investigators can wiretap into suspects phones legally, and use those conversations as evidence. Roy Olmstead, a suspected bootlegger, was bugged in the basement of his office, and also in the streets surrounding his home. He was later convicted based on that evidence. An appeal was raised on the grounds that the wiretapped data violated the defendant s Fourth and Fifth Amendment. It was decided that the wiretapped data did not violate the Fifth Amendment, because he was not forced to say anything incriminating, and did not violate the Fourth Amendment because wiretapping is not considered search and seizure (which would require a physical search of a person s belongings or possessions.) This event is important because it decided that wiretapping was legal and did not infringe on the Fourth or Fifth Amendment rights of criminals, effectively allowing wiretapping to be used in investigation and trial as evidence. In addition, it defined your Fourth Amendment rights to only apply to physical materials or properties of yours, not conversations or other non tangible things, and said that since wiretapped individuals were not forced to discuss incriminating information, the Fifth Amendment protection against self incrimination did not apply. It set a major precedent that would stand for nearly forty years, when it was overturned in Katz v. United States. 1945 The predecessor to the NSA receives copies of every ... • 43. American Born Chinese Book Report In the book American Born Chinese, Gene Luen Yang gives us an entertaining story of a common simple goal to fit in. The book being intended for a middle school audience; it does an outstanding job of relating to adults as well in many ways. Reading the book has taught and reminded me of many things. Such as; accepting yourself, being who you are, and not changing for others. These goals are helpful when you re getting situated in a new environment. Not only does Yang relate to middle school students, but to a variety of readers in many age levels and not just one in particular. My impression on the book was very positive. I loved how amusing it was, funny, and at the same time teaches a lesson in each different story it tells. The book is written in a comic book like theme. I enjoyed how universal it could also be, because it explains issues of stereotypes. No matter what race or ethnic you are you can t help but being categorized wherever you go. The stories made me reflect about stories of how I felt wanting to fit in somewhere new. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
