The Student
I am Marian Angela M. Tarang, 18
years old. Currently studying at
Cavite State University-Main
taking up Bachelor of Education
Major in Mathematics.
Educational Technology in a
Nutshell
Some say that the computer technology is a barrier or
destruction in learning. Computer technology and Internet is a
very important tool in transforming the traditional classroom
into one that is learner-centered. We cannot deny the fact
that the modern students are into the technology and
gadgets, so the best way to learn all the stuff inside the
classroom is the integration of technology in learning.
Introduction
Educational Technology in a
Nutshell
• There are positive benefits derived from the use of
information technology.
• Daily exposure to high technology-personal
computers. Internet search sites-stimulates the brain
by strengthening and creating neural circuits.
• A current technological revolution is creating an
intellectual revolution.
Understanding Technology Learners
Educational Technology in a
Nutshell
In the field of education, a huge generation gap exists. There is
need to prepare for bridging the digital gap in society. First,
we need to understand the potential of ICT:
– The new network of instantaneous communication is global,
overcoming borders between countries and continents.
– Elders belief may not be applicable anymore to the new generation.
– Alvin Toffler’s book, Future shock, shows how the information age has
begun to create many cultural changes.
The new generations are expected to face future professional
challenge of a digital world ahead of them.
Bridging the Generation Gap
Educational Technology in a
Nutshell
The old generation likes may not be the same as what the new generation
prefers in their life. It is important that critical differences in perception
between old and young which create a generation gap to be discussed.
– Single and multi-track activity patterns
– Texts versus visuals
– Linear versus hyper media
– Independent versus social learners
– Learning to do versus learning to pass the test
– Delayed rewards and instant gratification
– Rote memory versus fun learning
Preference of the Technology Generation
Educational Technology in a
Nutshell
Fluency skills
– Solution fluency
– Information fluency
– Collaboration fluency
– Media fluency
– Creativity fluency
– Digital ethics
The structured problem solving-process known as 4Ds:
– Define the problem
– Design the solution
– Do the work
– Debrief on the outcome
Developing Basic Digital Skills
Educational Technology in a
Nutshell
It is the students themselves who demonstrate higher
thinking skills.
The four IT-based projects:
– Resource-based Projects
– Simple Creation
– Guided Hypermedia Projects
– Web-based Project
Higher Thinking Skills Through
IT-Based Projects
Educational Technology in a
Nutshell
In this lesson, it stated that being computer literate has
something to do with learning. One can improve his skills in
reading and writing just by using computer.
The Internet has been an instrument known, not only here
in the Philippines, but in the entire world. The very powerful
Internet which helps us to gain lots of information and data.
Computer as Information and Communication
Technology
Educational Technology in a
Nutshell
• One of the wonders of human ingenuity. With the invention of
microcomputer, the PC has become the tool for programmed
instruction.
• They saw its potential for individualization in learning.
• Computer-assisted instruction (CAI)-it can be a tutor in effect
relieving the teacher of many activities in his/her personal
role as classroom tutor. The computer has indeed succeeded
in providing an individualized learning environment.
The Computer as a Tutor
Educational Technology in a
Nutshell
• Supports constructivist and social constructivist paradigms of
learning.
• The Computer’s Capabilities
– An information tool
– A communication tool
– A constructive tool
– As co-constructive tool
– A situating tool
The Computer as a Teacher’s Tool
Educational Technology in a
Nutshell
The Traditional classroom
– Classrooms are usually arranged with neat columns and
rows of student chairs, while the teacher stands in front of
the classroom or sits behind his/ her desk.
The SCL classroom
– Students also no longer need to mark the tests of peers
since the computer has program for test evaluation and
computerized scoring of results.
Information Technology in Support
of Student-Centered
Educational Technology in a
Nutshell
• Cooperative or collaborative learning by small groups of
students who work in a common learning task.
• Researchers have made studies on the learning interaction
between the student and computer. The computer is a fairly
natural learning vehicle for cooperative learning.
• Components of cooperative learning
– Assigning students to mixed ability teams
– Establishing positive interdependence
– Teaching cooperative social skills
– Insuring individual accountability
– Helping groups process information
Cooperative Learning with the Computer
Educational Technology in a
Nutshell
Two kinds of Software:
– System software
– Application software
Microsoft Windows- an operating environment between the
user and the computer operating system.
Instructional software- the teacher through his school should
decide on the best computer-based instructional materials for
the school resource collection.
The Software as an Educational Resource
Educational Technology in a
Nutshell
Hypermedia is nothing but multimedia, but this time packaged
as an educational computer software. It is a sequenced in
non-linear manner.
Characteristics of hypermedia applications:
– Learner control
– Learner wide range of navigation routes
– Variety of media
Understanding Hypermedia
Educational Technology in a
Nutshell
• Internet-largest and far-flung network system-of-all-systems.
• Through Transmission Control Protocol/Internet Protocol
everything can be coordinated through the internet.
• The most attractive way to move around the internet
browsing. Using a program called a browser.
The Internet and Education
Educational Technology in a
Nutshell
• The practicum phase consists in:
– Basic Microsoft Word (6hrs.)
– Microsoft PowerPoint (6hrs.)
– Internet as tool of inquiry (4hrs.)
Educational Technology 2 Practicum
Learning in Educational
Technology 1
The Education Technology 1 has truly paved the way for
the learner to become aware, appreciative and equipped to
use educational technology 1 tools ranging from traditional
to modern educational media.
Truly, the foundation for a truly satisfying exposure to
educational technology has been firmly laid down by the ET-
1 course, starting with the through treatment of the history
of educational technology, quality education, and the roles
of ET in the 21th millennium.
Learning in Educational
Technology 1
Computer should not just be used on playing games,
cyber bullying and etc. which could deprive other's rights.
Rather it used be used in a correct way. instead of playing
online games why don't we search our assignment over the
net? Or just simply visit the educational website, in that way
we could gain more knowledge that can help us in our
studies.
Learning in Educational
Technology 2
Educational technology 2 is concerned with “Integrating
Technology into Teaching and Learning.” Specifically this is
focused on introducing, reinforcing, supplementing and
extending the knowledge and skills to learners so that they
can become exemplary users of educational technology.
Mainly directed to student teachers, also professional
teachers who may wish to update their knowledge of
educational technology, it is our goal that this course can
help our target learners to weave technology in teaching
with software (computer programmed learning materials)
becoming a natural extension of their learning tools.
Learning in Educational
Technology 2
Necessarily, Educational Technology 2 will involve a
deeper understanding of the computer a well as hands-on
application of computer skills. But this is not to say that the
goal of the course is to promote computer skills. Rather, the
course is primarily directed at enhancing teaching-and-
learning through technology integration.
The Student after Edtech2
The world we have created is a product of our thinking.
It cannot be changed without changing our thinking.
-Albert Einstein
The Student after Edtech2
Our decisions today can change the future. So think
wisely before doing actions. Do what’s right and for
the better.
The Student after Edtech2
This subject will serve as an eye opener to the future
mentors like me, on what is in nowadays, the
proper teaching in which appropriate to the needs
and desire of the modern students.
