3. The
Student
I am Diza Rose Kysha
G. Abrenica, 20 years old.
Currently studying at Cebu
Technological University –
Moalboal Campus taking up
Bachelor in Elementary
Education Major in Content
Education.
4. What is Educational
Technology?
Educational Technology is a “complex,
integrated process involving people, procedures,
ideas, devices, and organization for analyzing
problems and devising, implementing,
evaluating and managing solutions to those
problems involved in all aspects of human
learning”. (Association for Educational Communications and
Technology)
It is the art or craft of responding to our
educational needs.
5. What is Educational
Technology?
Educational Technology consists of the designs and environments that engage
learners… and reliable techniques or method for engaging learning such as cognitive learning
strategies and critical thinking skills.(David H. Jonassen)
Educational Technology is a field involved in applying a complex, integrated
process to analyze and solve problems in human learning. (David H. Jonassen)
Educational Technology is a field study which is concerned with the practice of
using educational methods and resources for the ultimate goal of facilitating the learning
process. As a field, it operated within the total field of education. (Lucido and Borabo, 1977
Educatioanl Technology is a profession like teaching. It is made up of organized
effort to implement the theory, intellectual technique and practical application of educational
technology. (David H. Jonassen, 1999)
6. Several Terms in
Technology
1) Technology in Education
It is the application of technology to any of those processes
involved in operating the institutions which house the
educational enterprise.
2) Instructional Technology
It is a part of educational technology which refers to those
aspects of educational technology that are concerned with
instructions as contrasted to designs and operations of
educational institutions.
3) Technology Integration
It is using learning technologies to introduce, reinforce,
supplement and extended skills.
4) Educational Media
These are channels or avenues or instruments of
communication.
7. “Technology is in our hands. We can use it to build or destroy.”
Technology: Boon Or
Bane?
Technology is a blessing for man. With technology, there is
a lot that we can do which we could not do then. With cell phones,
webcam, you will be closer to someone miles and miles away. So far yet
so close! That is your feeling when you talk through a cell phone to a
beloved who is far away from home. Just think of how your teaching and
learning have become more novel, stimulating, exciting, fresh and
engaging with the use of multimedia in the classroom. With your
television, you can watch events as they happen all over the globe.
However, when not used properly, technology becomes a
detriment to learning and development. It can destroy relationships.
This may eventually erode marital relationship. Think of the students
who surfs the internet for pornographic scenes. The abuse and misuse of
the internet will have far reaching unfavorable effects on his moral life.
8. Preference of the Technology
Generation
The old generation likes may not be the same as what the new generation
prefers in their life. It is important that critical differences in perception between old and
young which create a generation gap to be discussed.
Single and multi-track activity patterns
Texts versus visuals
Linear versus hyper media
Independent versus social learners
Learning to do versus learning to pass the test
Delayed rewards and instant gratification
Rote memory versus fun learning
9. The Roles of Educational Technology in
Learning
• TRADITIONAL WAY
i.e. as delivery vehicles for instructional
lessons
• CONSTRUCTIVIST WAY
i.e. as partner in the learning process
10. Developing Basic Digital
Skills
Fluency skills:
1. Solution fluency
2. Information fluency
3. Collaboration fluency
4. Media fluency
5. Creativity fluency
6. Digital ethics
The structured problem solving-process known as 4Ds:
1. Define the problem
2. Design the solution
3. Do the work
4. Debrief on the outcome
11. Higher Thinking Skills Through IT – Based
Projects
The four IT-based projects:
Resource-based Projects
Simple Creation
Guided Hypermedia Projects
Web-based Project
12. Computer as Information & Communication Technology
Information Technology is transmitting, sharing, comprehend
knowledge through the use of technology.
The focus of ICT is the instructional medias that the learners and
teachers can use to acquire learning and information about a specific lesson.
13. The Computer as a
Tutor
Computer can be a tutor in a way that it can be used in facilitate the
learning process of the student. Student can follow easily the flow of the
discussion of a teacher when they are using computer/technologies.
The computer is just a guide for the student to be more knowledgeable
in a specific topic.
14. The Computer as a Teacher’s
Tool
The computer can provide access information, foster
creative social knowledge building , and enhance the
communication. Also it can help the teachers and students to focus
on more high level cognitive tasks.
The Computer’s Capabilities
An information tool
A communication tool
A constructive tool
As co-constructive tool
A situating tool
15. Cooperative Learning with the Computer
Cooperative Learning is a learning by small group
of students who work together in a particular task.
Cooperative or collaborative learning by
small groups of students who work in a common learning task.
Researchers have made studies on the learning interaction between
the student and computer. The computer is a fairly natural learning
vehicle for cooperative learning.
16. Understanding Hypermedia
Hypermedia is a multimedia. It is a educational computer
software where information is shown and student activities are
integrated in a virtual learning environment.
Characteristics of hypermedia applications:
1. Learner control
2. Learner wide range of navigation routes
3. Variety of media
17. The Internet & Education
Internet-largest and far-flung network system-of-all-systems.
Through Transmission Control Protocol/Internet Protocol
everything can be coordinated through the internet.
The most attractive way to move around the internet browsing.
Using a program called a browser.
18. Educational Technology 2 Practicum
The practicum phase consists in:
Basic Microsoft Word
Microsoft PowerPoint
Microsoft Excel
19. Learning in Educational Technology 1
There are a lot of relevant things rendered to me in the course of
Educational Technology 1. First is how technology used in education.
Technology in education is the popular impression of audiovisual aids. We
are thought about the first important side of computers which are the
hardware then followed by the software. Technology, nowadays, give a
great impact on the development of students. It gives the variety of ideas on
how to deliver lessons in class – not only to deliver an idea on class but also
outside the classroom like in the field of industry.
In Educational Technology 1, I also learned that technology itself is a
blessing to man. With technology, there is a lot that we can do which we
could not do then. However, when not used properly becomes a detriment
to learning and development. To conclude, technology should be properly
use.
20. Learning in Educational Technology 2
Educational Technology 2 tackled more about on how to integrate
technology with learning and teaching. It is more focused on introducing,
reinforcing, supplementing and extending the knowledge and skills to
learners so that they can become exemplary users of educational
technology. On its second phase, I learned to enhance my computer skills
that will be more effective in using the technology with my teaching career.
Technology will not only be useful for students but also for the
teachers. It will make their class lessons more novel, stimulating and more
interesting. In that way, students will learn more and will retain their lessons
if they will be more engage with technology provided with hands – on
activities.
21. Student After Educational Technology
With Educational Technology, one could learn more about
computers – not only merely about computer itself but with
how this thing could be very useful in our daily lives. It will
serve as an eye opener and mind booster on making things
work more effectively. Technology could be a very effective
and convenient tool in letting younger students gain and
received the ideas and knowledge we want to impart to them
since the younger generations today belong to the 21st century
learners. They are more engaged with the modern life as well
as the latest gadgets invented by the experts. We should help
them realize that these valuable things are not just for fun but
could also be a great help in their learning and development.
