year X, she has to cover monthly expenses as well as irregular monthly financial obligations, and she
plans to do so by investing the money not used to cover monthly expenses in either a 1 month, 3
month or 7 month investment scheme whose yields are 6%, 8% and 12% per year nominal
respectively. When the investments mature, Susan will use the principals as part of her budget and
invest all the interests in a long term investment that is not considered in her budgeting process. Susan

Thomas Hardy Neutral Tones Essay
Neutral Tones by Thomas Hardy conveys the deceiving nature of love through metaphor, the symbolic
environment in which the poem takes place, oxymoron and poetic sound devices. Among Hardy s
pessimistic poems, Neutral Tones is one of the most acclaimed. At the heart of the sixteen line poem
with an ABBA rhyme scheme, he encounters the demise of a once loving relationship. The former
promising love that he shared with his partner has dissolved into bitterness and its effects leave him
devastated and hopeless. Although the title hints that the author is trying to take a neutral stance on the
situation, his word choice and use of figurative language does not indicate it. The only neutrality
present in the poem is the description of the cold ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
(9 12). The smile on your mouth was the deadest thing is a shocking statement to make on the smile of
a formerly beloved person because it doesn t maintain neutrality like the author tries to keep (9). The
cold gesture of a grin of bitterness shows how the bond and connection that they once shared has
disappeared (11). Her presence is also causing him great suffering and is deemed a bad omen like an
ominous bird (12). Hardy implies that the people that we end up loving the most are the ones that
bring us the most pain. The final quatrain highlights a depressing state of mind through assonance and
alliteration. Words like keen , deceives , me , tree , and leaves exhibit the assonance of the ee sound.
Although Hardy tries to keep a neutral opinion of his experience of love, beneath the surface, the
reader is aware of the inner emotional turmoil that the author has experienced. By the end his ex
lovers face and winter are now a constant reminder of how deceiving love can be. The reader is left
with the knowledge that all love that ends usually leaves behind a depressing state of mind and

appendages, including sweat glands (eccrine and apocrine), sebaceous glands and hair follicles, are
likely to be associated with their own unique microbiota13 (FIG. 1). Eccrine glands, which are more
abundant than apocrine glands, are found on virtually all skin surfaces and continuously bathe the skin
surface with their secretion, which is composed mainly of water and salt. The primary role of eccrine
sweat is thermoregulation through the release of latent heat from the evaporation of water. Additional
functions of eccrine glands include excretion of water and electrolytes, and acidification of the skin,
which prevents the colonization and growth of microorganisms. Apocrine glands, which are located in
the axillary vault (armpit), nipple and genitoanal regions, respond to adrenaline by producing milky,
viscous, odourless secretions. Apocrine secretions have long been postulated to contain pheromones,

The Mammy As AArchetype
African Americans have consistently been the target of cinematic and television comedy. Considering
African American women, the Mammy has emerged as an icon throughout the 20th century,
representing the foil to American white women (cf. Atkinson, 2004: 3). Having its roots in antebellum
Southern America, the Mammy was an important figure in the socialization of white Southern children
(DelGaudio, 1983). Considerably, various depictions of the Mammy present her performing arduous
domestic duties in the household of their slave owners. Therefore, the Mammy replaces the white lady
in educating and taking care not only of the white children but also of the home (cf. Jewell, 1993: 38).
In their work, Jennifer Bailey Woodard and Teresa Mastin stand ... Show more content on

Therefore, she enjoys high prestige in terms of human values, why she is more or less a respected
person in the Caucasian family to which she belongs. Nonetheless, the Mammy archetype is filled
with paradox. On the one hand, she surely enjoys independence and embodies positive attributions
such as kindness, benevolence, and reliability. On the other hand, as Parkhurst states, she is, inter alia,
tyrannical, possessed with a temper, and harsh. In her work, Julia S. Jordan Zachery argues, the
Mammy needs aggressiveness in order to maintain the status quo, in her relations to other slaves to
prevent their co optation of her (2009: 37). Further, she clearly has to display authority over other
slaves in order to protect the white family of any probable danger, particularly from other blacks.
However, the Mammy would never show her harshness and aggressiveness towards the white family.
Thus, she is constructed as fiercely independent, aggressive and powerful, [but] all within limits (ibid.
38). By means of her tyrannical manners, she positions herself above African Americans, particularly

The, The Land Of Opportunity
It is an old problem for societies, how to take care of and rehabilitate the downtrodden. America is
known as the land of opportunity : where anyone can make it no matter their nationality, color, or sex.
And while much of America aspires to, and many Americans achieve a life of relative economic
stability, there are those who, for various reasons, have not been so lucky. Despite the numerous non
profit, and governmental aid programs designed to assist and rehabilitate the homeless, the homeless
population continues to rise (according to a 2013 U.S. Mayors report, 52% of surveyed cities reported
growing homeless populations) (Cochran, 8). For those unfortunate enough to find themselves without
a home, clawing their way out of homelessness on their own has proven to be extremely difficult. Not
only are the homeless at a disadvantage in the job marketplace, but many homeless grow a strong
connection to the homeless community that welcomed them in upon landing on the street, and are
reluctant to leave it, even if that means remaining homeless. While the government and aid
organizations are attempting to minimize the crisis, past solutions either provide housing for the few
lucky homeless, or they attempt to provide jobs, but not both. Given the need for a package deal, one
potential (yet underused) solution is the creation of community run working towns which would be
able to provide a strong incentive for whole communities of homeless to move in and begin working,

Persuasive Essay On Bitter Fruit
It is not unknown the discrimination towards the black race, especially African Americans during the
20th century. Therefore, in 1936, American writer, teacher and songwriter Abel Meeropol, composed
the poem Bitter Fruit. In an atmosphere of violence, he was inspired by a picture taken in Marion,
Indiana portraying the lynchings of Thomas Shipp and Abram Smith. These two African Americans
were arrested after being suspects in a robbery, murder and rape case. Nowadays Lawrence Bittler s
photography has become an iconic image of lynching. Although it was originally a written poem,
American blues jazz singer Billie Holiday performed it as a protest song for the first time in 1939. The
song is known as Strange Fruit where its lyrics and her

It has been shown that one of the strongest effects of music on the brain is in the area of memory. A
tempo of a steady rate of 60 beats per minute is shown to be ideal for positive effects on one s memory
as it is proven that the silence between two musical notes triggers the brain cells and neurons, which
are responsible for the development of sharp memory. Classical music fits into both of these criteria s,
proving that it is the most beneficial music genre for improving one s intellectual ability.
Research has also proven that classical music from the baroque period causes the heart beat and pulse
rate to relax to the beat of the music. As the body becomes relaxed and alert, the mind is able to
concentrate more easily.
The Mozart effect is a phenomenon that states that when an individual listens to classical music, their
intellectual and motor abilities increase and become more efficient. It has a profound effect on young
children because their minds are still developing at a rapid rate and their neural pathways are easily
influenced.
The music composed by Mozart has a 60 beat per minute pattern that is repetitive throughout his
pieces. This pattern activates the right and left hemispheres of the brain and it strengthens the
connections between the neurons that connect the two halves. Strengthening of the neural connections
leads to more efficient information processing because the brain must concentrate on comprehending
multiple stimuli and it therefore

Punishment in Modern Society
Why do Marxists argue that there is no such thing as punishment as such? Critically evaluate these
arguments.
When exploring the substantial role in which punishment plays in society, a number of differing
perspectives can be identified. Most are influenced by social theories which can be traced back to the
founding fathers of sociology; the two main proponents of the conflict and consensus theory, Karl
Marx and Emile Durkheim, as authors tend to adopt ideas from either a Durkheimian approach or a
Marxist position when writing on the matter of the role punishment in societies (Carrabine 2009:305).
Durkheim did more than any other theorists to develop a sociological account of punishment and to
emphasize the social importance of penal ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
A flaw highlighted by nearly all of Durkheim s critics is his lack of attention towards power
relationships within societies. Durkheim has been criticised for not considering individuals as
members of opposing groups, and the neglect of power and of the conflict between the two interest
groups means that his view of the state is altogether too positive (Hudson 2007:104), which
jeopardises the validity of his claims. Unlike Marxist writers who argue that law often expresses the
interest of the capitalist class in power struggles.
Essentially, it should be noted that the practices and institutions for the penal system was not discussed
in great depth by Marx. Neither did he write much about crime and criminals nor did he develop a
theory on crime and punishment in the same way as Durkheim (Marsh 2004:39). Because Marx did
not provide much writing relating to the occurrence of punishment, much is relied on the writing of
later Marxist influenced writers, in order to evaluate the Marxist analysis and theory of punishment
(Marsh 2004:39).
The most influential example of a Marxist interpretation of punishment is found in the work of Rusche
and Kirchheimer, in their 1939 text Punishment and Social Structure (Garland 1990:89); in which they
provided a thorough history of punishment which emphasise how the economy and, in particular, the
labour market influences the method of punishment adopted by different

Controversy In Shakespeare s Restless World
William Shakespeare is a name familiar to nearly every English speaking person. He is known as a
poet, playwright and actor, and is widely regarded as one of the greatest writers in the English
language. While many people might know a thing or two about Shakespeare, does anyone stop to
think about what the world was like around him? What kind of trials and tribulations did the people of
that Era have to face? What type of people did Shakespearian productions attract? The book,
Shakespeare s Restless World, answers these questions by using the history behind certain objects
from this era. Within the book, there are different objects that represent events or people who
surrounded Shakespeare, such as, the Stratford Chalice represents political and religious controversy,
the brass handed iron fork from the rose theatre represents the audience, and the failed flags for Great
Britain represent political controversy. The Stratford Chalice is a Protestant communion cup that

that while the low class people bought oysters, nuts, and other foods of that nature to snack on, the

What Is Eureka
Eureka! Poe s thoughts on the universe and its relation to God
The Universe is a plot of God. Is one of the main ideas expressed throughout Eureka a Prose Poem in
which Edgar Allan Poe expresses his thoughts on the creation and purpose of the universe (Poe). As a
writer Poe has been known to be a man of the arts, a poet. Eureka is truly one of its own among Poe s
works, especially since it was his last major work before his death(. A Prose Poem he called it.
Although he was not expectant of his death, Eureka seems to be his last testament of what he believes
is the collective universe. Not surprisingly, God has the same occupation in the universe as his, God is
a writer. As a man of thought he left this earth with a final testament to the world in which he wishes
to explain the universe for all those who seek the truth (Poe Preface).Eureka is not only an explanation

Effects of Neuropeptide Oxytocin in the Body
The neuropeptide oxytocin can have numerous effects within the body. Some of these effects are still
not understood today. However, oxytocin has been proven to play a critical role in social behaviors
Being able recognize emotions from facial expressions can be enhanced by intranasal oxytocin. For
example, when there is a positive emotional social stimulus present in the environment, individuals
that are administered oxytocin, will preform better on memory performance. This is due to the fact
that oxytocin enhances the recognition of facial expressions and therefore memory
Oxytocin and Face Processing
In the Bate, Duchainec, Burnsd, Hodgsone (2012) article, it was hypothesized that repeated
administration of oxytocin would enhance the process of recognition in memory The processes of
acquisition and retrieval of memories is a critical function of the amygdala. During the process of
recognizing threatening stimuli, amygdala activity is enhanced. The researchers of this study thought
that oxytocin might be able to influence the process of recognition memory because oxytocin
influences emotional regulation during encoding. The goal of this experiment was to examine how
memory performance would be influenced by single oxytocin administration before encoding and
repeated administration before encoding and retrieval.

Hammurabi Continuity
The Age of Hammurabi left a profound impression on the history of Mesopotamia and the evolution
of this civilisation. The babylonian king helped to unify disparate smaller kingdoms, intiating an age
of territorial rather than city states. Hammurabi made the city of Babylon one of regional significance,
after his death it would remain a religious centre until the first century AD. He created a more
centralised administration concerntrating more power within the palace and taking power away from
the temples. Hammurabi was particularly renowned for being a just king. His law code would be
copied and used as a model for justice for hundreds of years to follow. The babylonian king was also

Southern Mesopotamia and Sumeria previously had deified their kings but Hammurabi brought this to
an end. As an alternate way of legitimising his reign Hammurabi drew attention to his royal ancestry
in a similar manner to the kin based structures of the Amorite kingship (Liverani pp250). Some
aspects of the royal ideology remained the same. For example earlier kings had also portrayed
themselves as devoted shepherds who brought justice to their lands and Hammurabi maintained this
practice. The population was as a helpless flock and it was the king s responsibility to help them
prosper. This is evident in the introduction to his law code in which the king claimed, I am the good
shepherd, selected by Enlil (Mieroop 2005 pp82). With agricultre so vital for soceity in the south,
maintenance of farmland was an integral role for any king. Hammurabi alloted land to farmers in two
main ways. He either rented out land for an annual fee or assigned portions to people in reward for
services to the palace (Mieroop 005, pp.85). With very little rainfaill in the south, farming required the
digging of irrigation canals. This is evident in an inscription celebrating the construction of the canal
called Hammurabi is the abundance of the people which says that he shepherded the people of Sumer
and Akkad, giving them pastures, watering places and peaceful homes (Mieroop, 2005 pp.82). One
factor that is generally accepted by archaeologists to have contributed to the decilne of the Old
Babylonian period, is over irrigation. The numerous canals helped to raise the water table and
therefore salinity levels, decreasing the soil s fertility (Liverani, 2013). In addition to helping his
people prosper the Babylonian king also helped to maintain law and order. This is reflected in the
famous code of Hammurabi which described how to deal with issues of murder, theft, professional

The Sarbanes Oxley Act 2002
Introduction
Many companies have failed their shareholders through deception and impartiality within the last few
decades, examples include Enron, Maxwell and TYCO. Enron were liable for irregular accounting
procedures which fringed upon fraudulent behavior, conducting business with other companies which
they owned and making their financial statements looking more presentable by excluding losses. The
share price inevitably collapsed from over $90 to virtually nil, leading to bankruptcy. Another
company, TYCO International, overstated their earnings, placing them in violation of the securities
exchange act. Similar to Tesco recently. These cases caused investors to lose billions. The American
government realized the effect this had on the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As a result many American based businesses relocated to the UK stock market as the FSA regulates
with a lighter touch Independent, meaning a greater influence on self regulation. The act lead to the
UK s equivalent of it, the combined code of corporate governance. Which unlike SOXY is not a legal
document
The wrongful acts by firms go back to even before the 80 s, the problems were acknowledged, and as
a countermeasure to protect shareholders the Cadbury report was created, it sought to improve
corporate governance among UK companies this led to the Code of Best Practice which was adopted
by the London Stock Exchange. This proposed a system of self regulation by listed companies.

As well as auditor governance, businesses are also provided with guidance, in the form of the
companies act, i.e. the CA 2006 part 15 which details company responsibilities with regards to
accounts and reports. This outlines duties, i.e. the duty to keep accounting records and states that
directors mustn t approve accounts unless they give a true and fair view notes.

Cause And Effects Of The French Revolution Essay
Have you ever heard that the Royal blood is blue? Looking at the French Revolution, the royal blood
wasn t blue, but jaundiced shade of red and riddled with broken chromosomes. The French Revolution
was a period of economical and social events that led to a crisis, which lasted from 1789 until 1799
due to the inefficiency of the French government and rebellion against the government too. The
dissatisfaction of people against the Monarch and the debt of the government were specifically two of
the main causes that led to the French Revolution.
French government was extremely in debt. French government had used more money than what they
had in their budget and this caused them not only to be in debt but also to be at the border of

Mortality rate decreased which led to the population of France to be the highest in all Europe,
following the massive governments debt, came the social crisis. France was at height of European
power because there was growth of industry and growth of population; rise of middle class. But the
rise of the middle class meant that poverty increased too, leaving an unbalanced social structure of
society were people were divided into three different estates (First estate, Second estate, Third estate)
which ranked from high church members, bourgeoisie merchants to peasants. Peasants could barley
get the money necessary to pay the royalty which now, were some bourgeoisie who lived like some of
the nobles. The inequality of the different estates was the cause of anger from people. People from the
Third estate had to pay extremely high taxes, and people from the First estate were exempted from
paying these taxes. You may think that by gaining money you could move up estates. It was very rare
for people to move up the ladder from estate to estate now that there was inequality in power. Your
privilege was determined by the day you were born and had nothing to do with what you could do;
your talents. You could buy the social mobility rights, but the poorest could not afford to buy it. The

Fraud Triangle And Red Flags
Option #1 Fraud Triangle and Red Flags
Plutonium entered the Internet start up boom in 1988. It experienced rapid growth that resulted in a
haphazard information technology (IT) system in which pieces of technology were implemented
quickly leaving poor integration and data integrity. To strengthen data integrity and create an
integrated IT system, the organization installed a billing system, Gateway, which required testing
utilizing an imitation yet live credit card number to test the software and integration.
Several months after integration, a piracy incident involving a member of the integration team was
detected. The incident was resolved with assistance from the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI)
with the Operations team employee, Chris, warned and suspended with a formal warning letter to be
completed. Due to a conversation between the employee and his manager, Jonathan, the letter was not
written and months later the behavior of the employee raised suspicions with Jonathan indicating
potential fraud.
Potential Fraud Indicators The Fraud Triangle
To enable fraudulent activities, three elements comprised of the fraud triangle must exist: perceived
pressure, perceived opportunity, and rationalization of the fraudulent activities. In the case of
Plutonium, the elements of the fraud triangle were present and several factors increased the
opportunities for fraudulent activities. Though several types of fraud can be committed within an
organization, the

Time of Unrest in 1848 in the German States
The time of unrest that took place in The German states after 1848 was foreshadowed by widening
political, economic, and social division with in each state. These strong differing positions would lead
to the revolts of 1848 in Prussia, Austria, Hungary, and Prague and the German s lost opportunity to
build a united nation under a liberal parliament.
A strengthened public spirit , would fuel the revolutions and unrest that rocked the Germanic States in
1848 caused by the idea of national unity (Doc 10). Some German people felt it would be beneficial to
create a unified German, which [would] render the ferment stronger then ever (Doc 2). That
unification would be the perfect path to a representative constitutional monarchy. It was only by the
unification of the German States that freedom [could] come forth, and the rule of law be secured for
our future public life (Doc 10). Other officials had very different views, they believed that the
bourgeoisie were being poisoned by the evil education of the time and were going to cause the
downfall of all German States (Doc 8). These conservatives called for the prices and governments to
crush these ideas and rebellions and call upon the support of the proletariat in order to remain in
control of their nations.
The economic distress of the lower class and the raise of the middle class due to industrialization
fueled the unrest of the time. The middle class got richer building and operating factories while the

Another thing I found interesting is that if a ship was going over the seamount and it erupted, no one

There is a woman named, Shaesta Waiz, she is the first female certified pilot from Afghanistan.
According to one article in Flying Mag, she will be traveling through 20 countries to encourage girls
to achieve their dreams through education. She is part of an organization called Dreams Soar her
organization was founded to inspire women and girls to reach for the stars, according to Waiz. In the
article, Waiz talks about encouraging children to achieve their dreams through the STEM program,
which is in schools not only in the United States but also in countries like; Australia, France, and
China. (Encyclopedia Britannica). Waiz tells her story how she was born in a refugee camp in 1987 in
Afghanistan, and she and her family fled to the United States to escape the Soviet Afghan war. In this
article Waiz also states that she is the first member of her family to not only achieve a Bachelor s
degree but a Master s degree as well. Both degrees she received from Embry Riddle Aeronautical

c. Conducting Research
This is perhaps the most important step in the research paper writing process. Your research not only
provides you ethos as a writer by revealing your knowledge and understanding of the topic, but also
will very likely shape both your understanding and interpretation of the topic. Listed below are several
important tips for conducting research and notetaking: * In order to avoid later confusion, begin each
section by recording the author s name, book or article title, and page numbers (if relevant). * As you
examine each source, record important or unique notions which you may wish to incorporate within
your paper. Make certain to outline the general arguments of each source by including a descriptive
heading after the citation. This will aid you in more quickly and easily distinguishing between sources
in the future. Additionally, it may be useful to group sources into categories based on more refined
topics. * In order to diminish the risk of plagiarizing, do NOT directly lift phrasing or entire segments
of the text from sources without properly indicating that you have done so. If you find it necessary to
directly quote an author, clearly indicate what has been copied from the author and record the page
number on which this information can be found. * Remain critical of your sources: Do not assume that
an idea or criticism is valid, because it appears in the argument of a single critic or even multiple

Comparing the Feminine Quest in Surfacing and Song of...
The Feminine Quest in Surfacing and Song of Solomon
Margaret Atwood in her novel Surfacing and Toni Morrison in her novel Song of Solomon require
their heroines to pass through a stage of self interpretation as a prerequisite for re inventing the self.
This stage in the feminine journey manifests a critical act typically absent in the traditional male
journey, and one that places Atwood and Morrison s heroines at odds with the patriarchal community.
If authors of feminine journeys meet the requirements set out by feminist critics like Dana Heller, then
we must also provide a method for interpreting the texts that will be palatable for critics from the
patriarchy. Otherwise we perpetuate an hostility between the camps that ... Show more content on

But as conditions in real life changed, the structure and impact of the old stories failed to keep pace,
and we found ourselves with a confusing mismatch of perceived roles and desired roles.
The revised male journey became flight from women and from the influence of others according to
Heller thus creating the literary label of anti hero (24). He still journeyed, but he kept the boon to
himself (it was a lesser one anyway). If for some reason he does pass back through his sponsoring
community, he is not received as a prince returning home..
The revised female journey became more fully hers, but like the male anti hero, the Jane Eyres and
Emma Bovarys become social outcasts and outlaws for refusing to remain in their duly assigned roles.
For a satisfactory conclusion to these stories, the audience required death or marriage still generally
portrayed as a final submission to patriarchal authority.
Dana Heller tells us now that Women s quests must propose strategies for escaping debilitating
structures, for discovering authentic selfhood, and for claiming the right to take her journey out into
the world (13). Heller expresses here an imperative to current and future writers of the feminine
journey to generate stories that accord the heroine

Roman Spectacles
Before taking this course, my perception of Roman spectacles was unfortunately heavily based upon
what I was told by my elders or what I saw in movies like Gladiator, Hercules and Pompeii. Taking
this course has been the biggest eye opener regarding the truth about what really happened in Ancient
Rome, specifically regarding spectacles. I also feel like I ve learned that I should not just aimlessly
believe what I am told or what I see in movies, because people clearly lie about a lot of things and are
inaccurate, yet because they are older or have a mass platform what they say becomes the truth . One
of the biggest misconceptions I learned from this class that I previously believed without a doubt was

How could Hollywood lie to me like that?! Films like Gladiator, Hercules and Pompeii all lead me to
believe that arenas contained things like animals, pits that warriors could fall into at anytime, and even
were able to house full armies fighting each other to the death, but instead the reality was far different.
Although there were venatores who hunted animals, in gladiatorial combat animals were never used.
They also generally fought in flat arenas, with no fancy things like pits to fall into. Gladiatorial
combat also typically only occurred man to man. Everything shown in the movies is hyper
exaggerated in comparison to what actually occurred because Hollywood cares more about keeping
the viewers interested, and dazzling them with wondrous images of Ancient Rome, then being
accurate. Even things like the armour many of the gladiators wore was not accurately depicted. In the
movies some of them were shirtless and did not wear helmets, which was definitely not the reality
because they generally always wore helmets, armour and tunics. They would wear these things for
protection because, contrary to the movies, gladiators did not fight to the death. They were actually
highly valuable for entertainment, and cost a lot of money to train, so their lives mattered to the
sponsors, therefore it was rare that they were killed in combat. Finding out this information really has
changed my perspective on all movies regarding Ancient Rome, but specifically the ones that include
gladiatorial combat, because next time I see a new film I will be aware of what is real or fake and this
will force me to make others aware of these inaccuracies as

7 Habits Of Highly Effective Teens Analysis
The purpose of Sean Covey s 7 Habits of Highly Effective Teens is to inform teens on making better
choices for a better and healthier lifestyle. In the book, 7 Habits of Highly Effective Teens, the author
gives seven habits and explains each one and how you can apply them to your life. If all these habits
are applied to your life you will be much happier and in order. With these applied in your life you can
also find yourself doing good things for other people, in trouble a lot less, and making better choices
for yourself and others. These seven habits that you can apply to your life are, be proactive, begin with
the end in mind, put first things first, think win win, seek first to understand, then to be understood,
synergize, and sharpen the saw.
Habit one, be proactive, is about having a can do attitude and not being reactive. Habit one explains
what being proactive is and what being reactive is. Being proactive is about more than taking
initiative. It is recognizing that we are responsible for our own choices, and we have the freedom to
choose based on principles and values rather than on moods or conditions. Proactive people choose
not to be victims, to be reactive, or to blame others. Habit one comes first because it is the key to
unlocking all the other habits. Being proactive is about taking responsibility and not blaming others.
Applying habit one helps us with being less reactive and more proactive in your life.
In addition, habit two, begin with the end in mind, is about planning ahead and setting goals for
yourself. As the author states in the book, Habit 2 is based on imagination the ability to envision in
your mind what you cannot at present see with your eyes. It is based on the principle that all things are
created twice. Beginning with the end in mind means to begin each day or task with a clear vision of
your desired direction and destination, and then continue by flexing your proactive muscles to make
things happen. It also means developing a clear picture of where you want to go with your life. The
paths you choose now can affect your future forever ,so beginning with the end in mind can help with
making better choices for your future.
Next, is habit three, put first things first.

Martin Luther King Jr. And Gandhi
There are many people who believe in a philosophy of nonviolence, while others not so much. Two
people who have transposed the civil movement of the world dramatically through the philosophy of
nonviolence are Martin Luther King Jr. and Mohandas K. Gandhi. While there are many pros to
nonviolence, there are just as many cons. Somehow these two people managed to impact millions of
people s lives and still continue to do so today. Through all of the negativity and discrimination these
two people became leaders in our society s eyes and still remain as role models in our society now.
There are always pros and cons to being a leader to millions, but Martin Luther King Jr. and Gandhi s
non traditional non violence philosophy triumphed over it all for the greater good of the people. What
is the philosophy of nonviolence? According to Nonviolence on the Peace Pledge Union Website:
Nonviolence means abstaining from the use of physical force to achieve an aim. It is a philosophy, a
principle, and a practice. As an ethical philosophy, it upholds the view that moral behaviour excludes
the use of violence; as a political philosophy it maintains that violence is self perpetuating and can
never provide a means to a securely peaceful end. As a principle, it supports the pacifist position that
war and killing are never justifiable. As a practice it has been used by pacifists and non pacifists alike
to achieve social change and express resistance to oppression. (ppu.org.uk)

England s morals were based upon principles, including the practice of celibacy, zero crime tolerance,

England s public. However, when Queen Victoria came into ruling she raised their moral codes and no

The Buddha s Discourse on the Scripture of the Spell for Saving the Burning Mouth Hungry Ghost is

* The cost of expanding to newer geographies could be more than the investment * Targeting different

Graphic And Violent Video Games Research Paper
Graphic and Violent video games: Companies should strictly rate and monitor their games
By: Talisa Anderson
Graphic and violent video game companies should strictly rate their video games that are being sold.
When teenagers ages 13 18 play these violent video games that include killing, blood and terrorism,
they have less physical activity. The more teenagers that play graphic and violent video games have
more chances to be affected by the violence and mature content. Every time these games are played,
the gamers will react more aggressively and violently toward students at school, siblings and parents.
When violent and graphic video games are strictly rated and monitored the positive outcomes are less
mature content, more physical activity and prevents teens from video game related violence.
Strictly rated and monitored graphic and violent video games will prevent the risk of mature content
from video games influencing teens. Certain games like Doom are made to train US military to shoot

understands the text. Word choice affects the connotation, imagery, and so on. The poet uses strong,
reflexive words to describe the scenes. The poet called war Hell. This shows that war is as bad as it
can get. He says that the soldiers boldly rode into the fight. These men were willing to die in battle to

Understanding Literacy, and Health Literacy
An understanding of literacy, and health literacy is crucial to understand their impact on client health
outcomes. Further, a nurse s ability to better educate clients lies in his or her understanding of these
terms. Literacy is a multilayered, dynamic and complex topic; however, in short literacy is a set of
skills including reading, writing oral skills, numeracy skills, and skills that enable us to acquire
knowledge and information (Keefe Copeland, 2011). Literacy can be understood through various
theoretical lenses. Keefe Copeland also highlight five principles we must keep in mind when thinking
about literacy (2011). Firstly, all people are capable of acquiring literacy, however methods of
acquiring literacy vary greatly. Literacy is also a human right, given its ability to shape human
experience Literacy also serves as a crucial empowerment tool. Social interaction also contributes to
literacy; it is developed through human ability to build relationships. Lastly, literacy is not the
responsibility of an individual alone. Community, and human interaction nurture literacy as well.
All clients possess a degree of health literacy, and like literacy, it is a human right. It is a client s
ability to understand written, spoken or numerical information, and make health care related decisions
based on the information (Eadie, 2014). A client s health literacy also has a social component, often

Are cloud storage solutions irrelevant for a large organisation of 1,500 staff? An evaluation of
capabilities and potential for Cloud storage in the enterprise In this essay I will be evaluating the
capabilities and potential for cloud storage in enterprise. I will be doing this by evaluating all of the
features, abilities, drawbacks and limitations of cloud storage using the currently available standards,
products and protocols to help validate my views. I will first explain what cloud computing and cloud
storage is and how it came about, I will then go on to evaluate the pros and cons of cloud storage and
how it could affect a large organisation and then finally I will use my findings and data to answer the
question posed in this essay. In computing, cloud computing and as a sub component, cloud storage is
a term used to describe a large number of computers or a few very large servers connected to each
other through some form of network usually a wide area network or internet link, this network is
sometimes referred to as an internet area network. The evolution of cloud computing started by the
original concept in the 1950 s of large servers which were accessible from terminals with no real
processing capacity themselves which would allow for multiple parties to share its resources with the
connected terminals and allow for more CPU uptime. This meant that the servers which may have cost
thousands of pounds or were only available for research use would be much more

Gaunilo s Ontological Argument
One of the criticisms of the ontological argument is by the monk Gaunilo. Gaunilo tries to use the
same concept of Anselm s argument to refute the claims he made. He tries to use the analogy of The
Perfect Island . (1) A perfect island is an island after which nothing greater exist. (2)The perfect island
exists in the mind. (3)The perfect islands exist in the mind and not in reality and can be conceived to
exist. (4)To exist is better than not exist. Therefore, the perfect islands exist. Gaunilo s perfect island is
similar to the logical reasoning behind Anslem s argument. He reasons that the thought of a perfect
island can exist in the mind. The perfect island is one that which there is nothing greater. If the perfect

The Relationship Between Politics And Administration In...
The idea of civil service dates back to ancient times. But bureaucracy is modern terms that evolved
with the emergence of Public Administration as an academic field. Politics administration dichotomy
is one of the most important factor in the Study of Public Administration by Woodrow Wilson in 1887
(Afegbua: 2013). Nature of administration, the extent of work by bureaucracy and many other issues
are characterized by the relationship between politics and administration. Bangladesh has experienced
different forms of government regime from military autocratic to democratic republic. Before
liberation, it experienced government system under British Colonialism and government by Pakistan
as it was part of Pakistan earlier. Due to the variation in the forms of government the relations between
politics and administration were also different.
The Bangladesh Public Service Commission (PSC) is one of the most important pillars of the National
Integrity System having a key role in promoting excellence and integrity in the public service and
administration of the country. PSC s independence, political neutrality, transparency, accountability,
integrity and effectiveness are fundamental prerequisites for carrying out its functions which include
holding of competitive examinations for recruitment to the public service, recommend recruitments,
promotions, discipline, employee appeal and other related matters. Lack of credibility and integrity of

Date Effect of Climatic Change on the Cryosphere
Introduction
The tale of the human race and our connection to the ecosystem can be viewed as an unfolding
adventure shrouded in mysterious occurrences. The impacts of the overall climatic change have
signaled danger for a long time, and it is clear that there is a global crisis facing us. One would wonder
where we are headed and if the earth will be able to sustain life in the next century. Global warming
continues to manifest itself to us every day through rapid changes occurring to the climate system.
Some of us still hide from reality and hold on to the notion that climate change is just, but another

When carbon dioxide and other toxic gasses are released into the atmosphere, they become too
excessive for all the vegetation to absorb. Such conditions lead to the over accumulation of gasses that
form a layer called a greenhouse. The gasses create a greenhouse effect that prevents any heat from
escaping the earth (Taylor,881). This means that most of the heat being released from the earth s
center as well as that being absorbed from the sun is retained within the atmosphere. The trapped heat
has over time led to the rise in global temperatures which has subsequently had adverse effects on the
ecosystem. In essence, the small changes to a temperature that have occurred on a global scale over
time can lead to significant and human threatening changes in the global weather patterns. The
contemporary warmth has been exhibited by melting ice lands and glaciers as well as increased floods
and famines. Driving forces of this climatic change Scientists attribute a huge percentage of the gas
accumulation to the human activities using fossil fuels and whose operation leads to the release of
significant amounts of carbon dioxide and other toxic gasses into the air. The rate of temperature rise
since the industrial revolution shows a significant change of 38% due to the constant emission of toxic
gasses from human activity (Lonnie, 153).

Stop The Destruction Of The Athletes
To stop the destruction of the athletes, the U.S government has to take direct actions. To be more
specific, the Department of Health must insert strict laws to forbid the supplements stores for selling
illegal anabolic steroids. If this action will be taken, the results will be positive because at first the law
will reduce the public access to the steroids and then completely annihilate it. At the moment, every
athlete, professional or not, can easily purchase anabolic steroids from local supplement stores or
online. According to the Association against Steroid Abuse You see them (anabolic steroids) all over
the Internet and they pop up almost every day; advertisements for cheap steroids from a new
groundbreaking lab (AASA). The government has to prevent these stores from selling the illegal
products by forcing the stores owners to stop buying the illegal chemicals and then made it accessible
to the public. Another action that should be taken by the government is the ban of the companies that
are illegally producing the anabolic steroids. To be honest, government tried to ban these companies a
few decades ago but they managed to rise again and get the supplements from other countries, or even
create black markets that can produce and sell anabolic steroids. According to the Taylor Hooton
Foundation, a non profit organization in a national campaign to end the rampant use of anabolic
steroids, In the 1990s, most of the U.S producers of anabolic steroids such as Searle,

Compare And Contrast The Government Of The People And...
The people of America and their government each owe their commitment to obey certain obligations
to each other. Since each component of the nation must work together in order for it to function
properly, the people and those governing them each have essential duties they must obey to sustain an
efficiently operating country. The government of the people, by the people, for the people. (Lincoln)
both serves the people and is served by the people.
The government is responsible for serving and representing its people. Because the people of today
generally understand that no human being is born superior or inferior to any other, the government
must promote equal opportunity and rights for all. It is commonly agreed that all men and women

  • 4. Thomas Hardy Neutral Tones Essay Neutral Tones by Thomas Hardy conveys the deceiving nature of love through metaphor, the symbolic environment in which the poem takes place, oxymoron and poetic sound devices. Among Hardy s pessimistic poems, Neutral Tones is one of the most acclaimed. At the heart of the sixteen line poem with an ABBA rhyme scheme, he encounters the demise of a once loving relationship. The former promising love that he shared with his partner has dissolved into bitterness and its effects leave him devastated and hopeless. Although the title hints that the author is trying to take a neutral stance on the situation, his word choice and use of figurative language does not indicate it. The only neutrality present in the poem is the description of the cold ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... (9 12). The smile on your mouth was the deadest thing is a shocking statement to make on the smile of a formerly beloved person because it doesn t maintain neutrality like the author tries to keep (9). The cold gesture of a grin of bitterness shows how the bond and connection that they once shared has disappeared (11). Her presence is also causing him great suffering and is deemed a bad omen like an ominous bird (12). Hardy implies that the people that we end up loving the most are the ones that bring us the most pain. The final quatrain highlights a depressing state of mind through assonance and alliteration. Words like keen , deceives , me , tree , and leaves exhibit the assonance of the ee sound. Although Hardy tries to keep a neutral opinion of his experience of love, beneath the surface, the reader is aware of the inner emotional turmoil that the author has experienced. By the end his ex lovers face and winter are now a constant reminder of how deceiving love can be. The reader is left with the knowledge that all love that ends usually leaves behind a depressing state of mind and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Invaginations and appendages $watermark text Cutaneous invaginations and appendages, including sweat glands (eccrine and apocrine), sebaceous glands and hair follicles, are likely to be associated with their own unique microbiota13 (FIG. 1). Eccrine glands, which are more abundant than apocrine glands, are found on virtually all skin surfaces and continuously bathe the skin surface with their secretion, which is composed mainly of water and salt. The primary role of eccrine sweat is thermoregulation through the release of latent heat from the evaporation of water. Additional functions of eccrine glands include excretion of water and electrolytes, and acidification of the skin, which prevents the colonization and growth of microorganisms. Apocrine glands, which are located in the axillary vault (armpit), nipple and genitoanal regions, respond to adrenaline by producing milky, viscous, odourless secretions. Apocrine secretions have long been postulated to contain pheromones, which are molecules that trigger certain behaviours (for example, sexual or alarm) in the receiving individual14. • 7. The Mammy As AArchetype African Americans have consistently been the target of cinematic and television comedy. Considering African American women, the Mammy has emerged as an icon throughout the 20th century, representing the foil to American white women (cf. Atkinson, 2004: 3). Having its roots in antebellum Southern America, the Mammy was an important figure in the socialization of white Southern children (DelGaudio, 1983). Considerably, various depictions of the Mammy present her performing arduous domestic duties in the household of their slave owners. Therefore, the Mammy replaces the white lady in educating and taking care not only of the white children but also of the home (cf. Jewell, 1993: 38). Therefore, she enjoys high prestige in terms of human values, why she is more or less a respected person in the Caucasian family to which she belongs. Nonetheless, the Mammy archetype is filled with paradox. On the one hand, she surely enjoys independence and embodies positive attributions such as kindness, benevolence, and reliability. On the other hand, as Parkhurst states, she is, inter alia, tyrannical, possessed with a temper, and harsh. In her work, Julia S. Jordan Zachery argues, the Mammy needs aggressiveness in order to maintain the status quo, in her relations to other slaves to prevent their co optation of her (2009: 37). Further, she clearly has to display authority over other slaves in order to protect the white family of any probable danger, particularly from other blacks. However, the Mammy would never show her harshness and aggressiveness towards the white family. Thus, she is constructed as fiercely independent, aggressive and powerful, [but] all within limits (ibid. 38). • 8. The, The Land Of Opportunity It is an old problem for societies, how to take care of and rehabilitate the downtrodden. America is known as the land of opportunity : where anyone can make it no matter their nationality, color, or sex. And while much of America aspires to, and many Americans achieve a life of relative economic stability, there are those who, for various reasons, have not been so lucky. Despite the numerous non profit, and governmental aid programs designed to assist and rehabilitate the homeless, the homeless population continues to rise (according to a 2013 U.S. Mayors report, 52% of surveyed cities reported growing homeless populations) (Cochran, 8). For those unfortunate enough to find themselves without a home, clawing their way out of homelessness on their own has proven to be extremely difficult. Not only are the homeless at a disadvantage in the job marketplace, but many homeless grow a strong connection to the homeless community that welcomed them in upon landing on the street, and are reluctant to leave it, even if that means remaining homeless. While the government and aid organizations are attempting to minimize the crisis, past solutions either provide housing for the few lucky homeless, or they attempt to provide jobs, but not both. Given the need for a package deal, one potential (yet underused) solution is the creation of community run working towns which would be able to provide a strong incentive for whole communities of homeless to move in and begin working, thus ... These two African Americans were arrested after being suspects in a robbery, murder and rape case. Nowadays Lawrence Bittler s photography has become an iconic image of lynching. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It has been shown that one of the strongest effects of music on the brain is in the area of memory. A tempo of a steady rate of 60 beats per minute is shown to be ideal for positive effects on one s memory as it is proven that the silence between two musical notes triggers the brain cells and neurons, which are responsible for the development of sharp memory. Classical music fits into both of these criteria s, proving that it is the most beneficial music genre for improving one s intellectual ability. Research has also proven that classical music from the baroque period causes the heart beat and pulse rate to relax to the beat of the music. As the body becomes relaxed and alert, the mind is able to concentrate more easily. The Mozart effect is a phenomenon that states that when an individual listens to classical music, their intellectual and motor abilities increase and become more efficient. It has a profound effect on young children because their minds are still developing at a rapid rate and their neural pathways are easily influenced. The music composed by Mozart has a 60 beat per minute pattern that is repetitive throughout his pieces. This pattern activates the right and left hemispheres of the brain and it strengthens the

  • 12. Punishment in Modern Society Why do Marxists argue that there is no such thing as punishment as such? Critically evaluate these arguments. When exploring the substantial role in which punishment plays in society, a number of differing perspectives can be identified. Most are influenced by social theories which can be traced back to the founding fathers of sociology; the two main proponents of the conflict and consensus theory, Karl Marx and Emile Durkheim, as authors tend to adopt ideas from either a Durkheimian approach or a Marxist position when writing on the matter of the role punishment in societies (Carrabine 2009:305). Durkheim did more than any other theorists to develop a sociological account of punishment and to emphasize the social importance of penal ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... A flaw highlighted by nearly all of Durkheim s critics is his lack of attention towards power relationships within societies. Durkheim has been criticised for not considering individuals as members of opposing groups, and the neglect of power and of the conflict between the two interest groups means that his view of the state is altogether too positive (Hudson 2007:104), which jeopardises the validity of his claims. Unlike Marxist writers who argue that law often expresses the interest of the capitalist class in power struggles. Essentially, it should be noted that the practices and institutions for the penal system was not discussed in great depth by Marx. Neither did he write much about crime and criminals nor did he develop a theory on crime and punishment in the same way as Durkheim (Marsh 2004:39). Because Marx did not provide much writing relating to the occurrence of punishment, much is relied on the writing of later Marxist influenced writers, in order to evaluate the Marxist analysis and theory of punishment (Marsh 2004:39). The most influential example of a Marxist interpretation of punishment is found in the work of Rusche and Kirchheimer, in their 1939 text Punishment and Social Structure (Garland 1990:89); in which they provided a thorough history of punishment which emphasise how the economy and, in particular, the labour market influences the method of punishment adopted by different ... He is known as a poet, playwright and actor, and is widely regarded as one of the greatest writers in the English language. While many people might know a thing or two about Shakespeare, does anyone stop to think about what the world was like around him? What kind of trials and tribulations did the people of that Era have to face? What type of people did Shakespearian productions attract? The book, Shakespeare s Restless World, answers these questions by using the history behind certain objects from this era. Within the book, there are different objects that represent events or people who surrounded Shakespeare, such as, the Stratford Chalice represents political and religious controversy, the brass handed iron fork from the rose theatre represents the audience, and the failed flags for Great Britain represent political controversy. He created a more centralised administration concerntrating more power within the palace and taking power away from the temples. Hammurabi was particularly renowned for being a just king. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Southern Mesopotamia and Sumeria previously had deified their kings but Hammurabi brought this to an end. As an alternate way of legitimising his reign Hammurabi drew attention to his royal ancestry in a similar manner to the kin based structures of the Amorite kingship (Liverani pp250). Some aspects of the royal ideology remained the same. For example earlier kings had also portrayed themselves as devoted shepherds who brought justice to their lands and Hammurabi maintained this practice. The population was as a helpless flock and it was the king s responsibility to help them prosper. This is evident in the introduction to his law code in which the king claimed, I am the good shepherd, selected by Enlil (Mieroop 2005 pp82). With agricultre so vital for soceity in the south, maintenance of farmland was an integral role for any king. Hammurabi alloted land to farmers in two main ways. He either rented out land for an annual fee or assigned portions to people in reward for services to the palace (Mieroop 005, pp.85). With very little rainfaill in the south, farming required the digging of irrigation canals. This is evident in an inscription celebrating the construction of the canal called Hammurabi is the abundance of the people which says that he shepherded the people of Sumer and Akkad, giving them pastures, watering places and peaceful homes (Mieroop, 2005 pp.82). One factor that is generally accepted by archaeologists to have contributed to the decilne of the Old Babylonian period, is over irrigation. The numerous canals helped to raise the water table and therefore salinity levels, decreasing the soil s fertility (Liverani, 2013). In addition to helping his people prosper the Babylonian king also helped to maintain law and order. The French Revolution was a period of economical and social events that led to a crisis, which lasted from 1789 until 1799 due to the inefficiency of the French government and rebellion against the government too. The dissatisfaction of people against the Monarch and the debt of the government were specifically two of the main causes that led to the French Revolution. French government was extremely in debt. Peasants could barley get the money necessary to pay the royalty which now, were some bourgeoisie who lived like some of the nobles. The inequality of the different estates was the cause of anger from people. People from the Third estate had to pay extremely high taxes, and people from the First estate were exempted from paying these taxes. You may think that by gaining money you could move up estates. It was very rare for people to move up the ladder from estate to estate now that there was inequality in power. To strengthen data integrity and create an integrated IT system, the organization installed a billing system, Gateway, which required testing utilizing an imitation yet live credit card number to test the software and integration. Several months after integration, a piracy incident involving a member of the integration team was detected. Additionally, it may be useful to group sources into categories based on more refined topics. * In order to diminish the risk of plagiarizing, do NOT directly lift phrasing or entire segments of the text from sources without properly indicating that you have done so. The Feminine Quest in Surfacing and Song of Solomon Margaret Atwood in her novel Surfacing and Toni Morrison in her novel Song of Solomon require their heroines to pass through a stage of self interpretation as a prerequisite for re inventing the self. This stage in the feminine journey manifests a critical act typically absent in the traditional male journey, and one that places Atwood and Morrison s heroines at odds with the patriarchal community. If authors of feminine journeys meet the requirements set out by feminist critics like Dana Heller, then we must also provide a method for interpreting the texts that will be palatable for critics from the patriarchy. How could Hollywood lie to me like that?! Films like Gladiator, Hercules and Pompeii all lead me to believe that arenas contained things like animals, pits that warriors could fall into at anytime, and even were able to house full armies fighting each other to the death, but instead the reality was far different. Although there were venatores who hunted animals, in gladiatorial combat animals were never used. They also generally fought in flat arenas, with no fancy things like pits to fall into. Gladiatorial combat also typically only occurred man to man. Everything shown in the movies is hyper exaggerated in comparison to what actually occurred because Hollywood cares more about keeping the viewers interested, and dazzling them with wondrous images of Ancient Rome, then being accurate. Even things like the armour many of the gladiators wore was not accurately depicted. In the movies some of them were shirtless and did not wear helmets, which was definitely not the reality because they generally always wore helmets, armour and tunics. They would wear these things for protection because, contrary to the movies, gladiators did not fight to the death. They were actually highly valuable for entertainment, and cost a lot of money to train, so their lives mattered to the sponsors, therefore it was rare that they were killed in combat. Finding out this information really has changed my perspective on all movies regarding Ancient Rome, but specifically the ones that include gladiatorial combat, because next time I see a new film I will be aware of what is real or fake and this will force me to make others aware of these inaccuracies as ... It is based on the principle that all things are created twice. Beginning with the end in mind means to begin each day or task with a clear vision of your desired direction and destination, and then continue by flexing your proactive muscles to make things happen. When carbon dioxide and other toxic gasses are released into the atmosphere, they become too excessive for all the vegetation to absorb. Such conditions lead to the over accumulation of gasses that form a layer called a greenhouse. The gasses create a greenhouse effect that prevents any heat from escaping the earth (Taylor,881). This means that most of the heat being released from the earth s center as well as that being absorbed from the sun is retained within the atmosphere. The trapped heat has over time led to the rise in global temperatures which has subsequently had adverse effects on the ecosystem. In essence, the small changes to a temperature that have occurred on a global scale over time can lead to significant and human threatening changes in the global weather patterns. The contemporary warmth has been exhibited by melting ice lands and glaciers as well as increased floods and famines. Driving forces of this climatic change Scientists attribute a huge percentage of the gas accumulation to the human activities using fossil fuels and whose operation leads to the release of significant amounts of carbon dioxide and other toxic gasses into the air. The rate of temperature rise since the industrial revolution shows a significant change of 38% due to the constant emission of toxic gasses from human activity (Lonnie, 153). ...
