Analysis Of The Happy Garden Of Life
In his short story 2 B R 0 2 B, Kurt Vonnegut encapsulates a perfect society that defies the odds. One in which old
age is conquered, disease is unheard of, and death is a mountain that only volunteers choose to climb. Though a
perfect world seems favorable, the nature defying aspects of this society come with a cost. The foundation of the
this civilization is built on the ideal of population control; in order for one life to enter the world, another life must
be taken out through government regulated gas chambers. Shortly after introducing the supposedly flawless nation,
Vonnegut creates the centerpiece of its ideals and foundation: a neat, painted mural titled The Happy Garden of
Life . In 2 B R 0 2 B, The Happy Garden of Life is used to symbolize a seemingly utopian nation, but as the vines
of the story disentangle, it becomes evident that the compositional elements of the painting reveal the corruption
lying within the society s foundation. By examining the details of the painted men and women, alongside the
recurring motifs of white, purple, and fruit, one can conclude Vonnegut uses the mural to demonstrate the dystopia
s desensitization to death. The first striking aspect about The Happy Garden of Life is a mutual trait portrayed
among the majority of the painted men and women. Though not in the initial description, the figures are repeatedly
referred to in the text as being blank, faceless bodies. With the mural symbolizing the world as a whole, this

Flattened Fauna by Roger M. Knutson
Book Review of Flattened Fauna
Flattened Fauna, the book all about road kill. How could one not be interested in learning more about the flattened
animals that litter our roads? I was certainly intrigued by the idea that the study of these very dead animals actually
exists. This book contains all sorts of information about flattened fauna such as how to study it, where to study it,
why flattened fauna exists, details about the most popular and or dangerous fauna, and of course why it is studied
in the first place. The following paragraphs will give a summary of the book Flattened Fauna, what to expect of the
book, and how the book relates to furthering ones knowledge of Biology.
The author states that this book is supposed to encourage the appreciation and study of road fauna. The author
even mentions that a trip of one thousand miles presents the opportunity to see, identify, and possibly enjoy four
hundred to four thousand animals. The author encourages the reader to think of the road as a habitat. Most animal
habitats such as forests, lakes, marshes, and such have been apart of the world for millions of years, and the new
roads conveniently run through these habitats. These new roads and highways are a relatively new part of these
animals natural habitat, but the animals still include these roads as a part of their traditional habitat. Animals have
not had a significant amount of time to adapt to this relatively new habitat. The road fauna is quite new

Rhetorical Analysis Of The Lion King
The Lion King Almost everyone in the world is familiar with the infamous Disney movie The Lion King, but very
few have gone into detail and analyzed the rhetoric within the film. Each scene is filled with a sense of pathos that
tugs on the emotions of the audience and inevitably pushes them to one side over the other. It is interesting to see
how the voices, color, and actions of each character have such an effect on their personalities which then has an
effect on the audience and leaves them judging the morals of the characters. For people who grew up watching the
original Disney movies, this is a great film to watch in depth and really figure out the meaning behind each scene.
In the beginning of the movie Simba gets caught in a stampede ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Simba talks about Hakuna Matata and says sometimes bad things happen and there s nothing you can do about it,
so why worry? however Nala is not fooled and is continuously becoming more and more aggravated with Simba
so she yells because it s your responsibility! Both Simba and the audience know that his old friend is right but his
fear of facing his past leaves him unmoved by Nala s speech. A couple minutes after Nala leaves, Simba is graced
with the presence of a crazy baboon named Rafiki who tells him that his father is still alive, inside of him, and that
he should follow him if he wants to see for himself. Simba follows the baboon to a pond and looks to where the
monkey is pointing. Unfortunately he only sees his own reflection but Rafiki tells Simba to look harder. He then
sees his father in the water, realizing what the baboon meant. Mufassa is now in the dark clouds telling Simba that
he s forgotten who he was, therefore he s forgotten him, and this triggers Simba s emotions making feel
disappointed in himself for not going home like he should have. His father then tells him that he needs to find his
place back in the circle of life and says remember who you are. You are my son and the one true king. Remember
who you are. His voice is very deep and almost sounds like he is hurting. Then in an instant he is gone with the
storm and Simba is chasing after him begging him not to go. That scene is very detailed and most

The Rise Of Sexual Slavery And The Islamic State Essay
Sydney Smith Professor Morrison Religion 2208 Islam 12 November 2016 The Rise of Sexual Slavery and the
Islamic State Over the past decade, armed conflict has escalated Iraq and Syria; subsequently, violence against
women has become prevalent among members of the Islamic State. High ranking officials have normalized the
systematic enslavement of thousands of women and have revitalized the practice of sexual slavery in the region. In
her essay, Redeeming Slavery, Kecia Ali attributes this phenomenon to the Islamic State s attempted renewal of
religious sentiments; even though she disputes claims that this practice represents a correct interpretation of
Islamic beliefs, Ali argues that the widespread normalization of sexual slavery is at least portrayed by leaders as a
return to the original beliefs and practices of early Muslim authorities. Jessica Stern, in her essay, Response to
Kecia Ali, agrees with Ali that religious scholars ought not attempt to judge IS s actions as Islamic or un Islamic;
however, she fundamentally disagrees about the nature and origin of the militant group s practice of modern
slavery. Stern instead attributes it to political expediency and practicality, emphasizing that the allure of sex serves
as an important recruitment tool for the group. Though they disagree about the nature of the Islamic State s
relationship to slavery, Ali and Stern both agree that the attempt to situate IS on a rigid binary of Islamic or un
Islamic is problematic and

Ziplock Bag Lab Report
Mass Conservation Within a Ziplock Bag
Question
Does a controlled (closed system) Ziplock bag experiment demonstrate the Law of Conservation of Mass?
Claim
According to the Law of Conservation of Mass inside a controlled system, mass cannot be created nor destroyed,
only transformed. This statement is accurate, however, a human error occurred when I performed this experiment.
According to my data in the Ziplock bag experiment, the information I collected did not support the Law of
Conservation of Mass.
Evidence
Throughout the Ziplock bag experiment, the Law of Conservation of Mass was present in 50% of the ten groups (
five out of the ten groups). To collect the mass of everything, the first direction was to take the mass of the
materials used in the experiment. For the Law of Conservation of Mass to be activated, the Ziplock bag needed to
be closed. If a gas was to be formed, no mass would be created nor destroyed because in a closed or controlled
system nothing is able to escape. Based on the four pieces of data I collected in my data table, the mass of 75% of
my data before and after the experiment stayed the same. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
50% of the group s experiments did not follow the Law of Conservation of Mass because of human error. For an
explanation of why the mass was changed could be as easily explained as not closing the Ziplock bag or not
measuring the materials exactly. When I performed this experiment, I did not add the correct weights together.
Therefore, this resulted in the before and after mass to not be equivalent and not following the Law of
Conservation of Mass. For the 50% of the experiments that did represent the Law of Conservation of Mass, the
mass stayed the same throughout the entire experiment. For example, Brooke and Lily s mass of their reactants
was 32.3 grams. Likewise, after their experiment was performed the mass was also 32.3

Monkey Paw Alternate Ending
As I was driving back home from work in the lumber mill, I saw a carnival which wasn t there when I went to
work this morning. I decided to stop and see what was there. I forgot my jacket at work, so i was cold, especially
since it was I cold, chilly December night. I walked into the carnival and I saw a sign meet the best fakir in
England. I was shocked by the statement that he was the best, so I wanted to go talk to him myself. I walked into
his tent which is on it s own side of the carnival, alone, away from everyone. He told me, You are the one I have
been waiting for . What do you want for me,fakir?
For you to take this burden off of me, He handed me a Monkey paw and said I get three wishes. He calmly walked
me outside and fell over dead as soon as he took one step out of the tent. This is when all of my hardships began.
When I got back home, my mother was still awake, waiting on me to get back home, it was almost three in the
morning. She asked, where were you?

Advantages And Disadvantages Of Playing Laptop
A catchy article that was submitted by Phil Reusch on the 20th September 2010, titled What are the Disadvantages
of using a gaming laptop? concerns deeply about the inconvenience things that may come about if we are having a
gaming laptop, rather than having any kind of common laptop. Like we can see in our daily life, people who likely
or tend to play games commonly have a desire to own a gaming laptop, since gaming laptop could runs various
updated programs that common laptop doesn t do it as best as gaming laptop, Phil discussed. Besides that, Phil

in the article Phil said, because of the fairly worthless battery life, we ll be stuck near a plug. I quiet disagree with
it since even if we need a plug, how far the plug would it be since the cable will be long enough to reach. Different
condition if we are talking about somewhere with no plug. That s quiet cranky too since will we really going to
play games even in places with no plug? We can easily imagine how those place condition is and I assumed it is
totally impossible to busy ourselves by playing games. Then in other side, Phil discussed about the weight which
is making more burden. I agree with this since in fact the program and the hardware itself are much thicker than
usual laptop. This is also a problem for anyone who about to carry it everywhere they go. And yes, not only its
laptop we re going to carry, but also it s complementary; like battery charger, mouse, disc, and other accessories

Social Studies Rebellion Essay
Open protest, conflicting interests, lives changed forever. This is a rebellion. You re willing to fight the authorities
to be heard. Armed rebellion is only justifiable if nothing else works. The Rebellions of Upper and Lower Canada,
Red River Rebellion, and Northwest Rebellion are all part of Canadian history. They show us that people can go
against the government which usually results in a large loss of life, but more importantly change.
The Rebellion of Upper and Lower Canada mainly occurred because of land issues, government inequality, and
irresponsibility to the people. Power was held by a small group of noble elites, they can veto any law that hurts

Riel was determined to protect the rights of everyone in the settlement. When the Canadian Party was armed and
prepared to attack, he imprisoned them by force. The belligerent Thomas Scott was executed by a majority vote.
Then Riel decided to negotiate with the Canadian government, which at first refused to recognize him. Undaunted,
the provisional government drafted a proposal for the creation of the province of Manitoba. Unfortunately, the
leader of the Canadian Party escaped and reached Ottawa first, spreading prejudicial news of the execution and
creating outrage. The delegates from Red River had a hard time getting recognition from Macdonald s
government, but eventually their case was heard and agreed upon. The Manitoba Act was created granting land
rights, as well as making two official languages and education systems. Overall, the Red River Rebellion was a
success, but they could ve used more peaceful means when dealing with the Canadian Party, especially since they
didn t act beforehand. The Red River Rebellion did not end all of the Metis problems though.

Neo-Marxist Filmmakers
Neo Marxist filmmakers were greatly influenced by Althusser s theory of ideology, which viewed film as an
ideological apparatus that tried to determine how films turn viewers into their subject, and encourage them to
believe not only in the represented reality, but also in their preferred one, the one that could not exist without their
structuring. For example, the Jean Louis Baudry s article Ideological effects of the Basic Cinematographic
Apparatus (1985) says that the making of movies is a results of the recent capitalism s need to restore in people
minds the illusion of having control over their own lives. The illusion was needed for their willing participation in
the new industrial style of production that actually took away the remains of their self control. Baudry found
ideological properties in the film apparatus itself that constitute a transcendental concentrated subject, and
therefore induce a willingness to cooperate with the capitalist mode of production. An observer who accepts the
position set by a painting, whereby his or hers eye overlays the painting s point of view, experiences the full
illusion of depth. This effect has a strong ideological outcome since, in ideological terms, the painting arranges the
viewer space in a centered and organized form that appears to originate from the painting. Laura Mulvey, in
Narrative Cinema and Visual Pleasure (1973), uses psychoanalysis as a political weapon to uncover ways in which

The Role Of The Dublin Lockout Of 1913
James Larkin, the leader of the Irish Trade Union and the founder of the Irish Transport and General Workers
Union once said The employers cannot carry on industry nor accumulate profits if they have not got the good will
of the workers or their acquiescence in carrying on such industry. In 1911, over 300,000 people lived in Dublin.
The unemployment rates were high and the average labourers wage was around one pound a week, and that was
only if they had a full week of work. Living conditions were equally as inadequate as the working wages. Lydia
Carroll and Enda Leaney found in a housing enquiry that 87,305 people lived in poverty, almost a third of Dublin s
population. 80% of families lived in one room dwellings. According to the Public Health Report of 1913, 8,639
deaths were recorded, 1,444 were from tuberculosis and 4,642 were from nervous, circulatory, respiratory, and
digestive diseases such as diarrhoea and pneumonia due to inadequate sanitary and nutrition.(Devine, pg 3 4)
These conditions sparked many protests as workers became desperate. James Larkin became a renowned figure of
the movement toward a better Ireland for the labourers. This essay will discuss the comparison of leadership

Study Two
Nashwa Sayed Hamed and Neveen Abdel Latif Abdel Raoof conducted a study that was published in 2015 called,
Effect of high intensity interval training on diabetic obese women with polyneuropathy: a randomized controlled

The forty women were between forty five and fifty five years old and had type 2 diabetes with polyneuropathy and

Mcdonald s American Leadership
It is simpler to get elected as the President of the United States than it is to become a manager at McDonald s. To
become a manager at McDonald s, an employee must work and brown nose his or her way up, being trained and

have resided in America for at least fourteen years, be thirty five years or older, and be a natural born citizen (Ho

First of all, narcissism is the condition being egocentric and an obdurate disregard for others wellbeing. The
narcissistic tendencies in a potential world leader are what guide a majority of his or her actions. Furthermore, the
shining confidence that expounds from a narcissist is magnetic to followers. Another term that is prevalent to
understanding the process is sociopathic leader. This is used to describe an individual who lacks a conscience and
is manipulative and ruthless in gaining power. It is beneficial to be devoid of natural human emotions because it
functions as a wall, blocking out the screams of an oppressed community. Sociopathic leaders also tend to be
authoritarian rulers, who appeal to fear to command constrictive obedience to authority figures. Scapegoating
plays upon this suffocating fear of the citizens by alienating an entire group, usually a minority, and accusing them
of causing the destruction of the country. Dehumanization of those being scapegoated erases the human qualities
and releases the guilt of the community so that it can openly blame innocents. Labeling, or classifying a group of
people as having a specific characteristic, assists in the dehumanization process. Although an inexperienced
candidate does not technically need to have any previous political knowledge, it is extremely beneficial to

This kind of approach make use of the character of ( Webs of Linked Data ), in the existence of data links. To
execute a requested Linked Data query, live exploration systems perform a recursive URI lookup process during
which they incrementally discover further URIs that also qualify for lookup. Thus, such a system explores the

perspective, it is desirable that an existing query language is extended to retrieve a new type of data, allowing
information from two formats to be correlated. For instance, use SQL to query both existing relational data and
new XML data. Secondly, from data management perspective, it is valuable to express existing data with a newly
defined data model and query them with the corresponding query language. For example, publish relational data in
an XML form for exchange purpose and use XQuery to retrieve them from databases. Here, we briefly summarize
the potential interoperability of semantic web with relational and XML databases from data management and
query perspectives.
Table 1 illustrates some extensions of existing query languages for access to new types of the data. It is well
known that SQL is extended to query both relational and XML data, namely SQL/XML, allowing SQL queries to
create XML structures with a few

The Censorship Of The Journalism
Breaking news just in.......... this is just one of the everyday things in the hectic world of journalism. People often
downplay the significance of this huge task. Journalism allows people to know everything happening all around
the world. It also allows questions that would otherwise be awkward to ask to be answered. It offers informative
facts and often the whole truth to everyone out there. Without journalism the government would probably be in
control of everything and fellow citizens would ignorant of the happenings around them.
One of the roles in journalism is the journalist. Journalists have several tasks to complete but the main thing is that
they inform the public about events and topics and how it may pertain to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Not only was he a journalist he was also a publisher and printer. He was rather successful in this area and it could
be due to the fact that he would be neutral on subjects and scrutinize all sides of an issue and several perspectives
on those issues would be published. He completely understood the meaning of the freedom of the press, and he
wouldn t limit the information he knows to the people in America.
A reporter is another essential position in journalism. A reporter is the one who watches and pictures the events in
great detail in order to inform viewers. They have to state their own views and also the facts of the things they are
covering. This job includes having to gather the news and present it in a certain amount of time. They have to
interview several people and attend public meetings, press conferences, and courts to find events of interest to the
public.
This job doesn t quite provide fixed hours or a regular routine; it ll change by the day. The type of work will
change daily, as well as the amount of it. To fit this job a reporter must possess confident, so they won t be overly
amazed or intimidated by the rank of an interviewee. A reporter should always take initiative to do all tasks and not
be easily discouraged by people or their surroundings. They should also posses the mental and physical drive to
deal with any kind of situation quickly and to put it into words. When

Corruption In The Catholic
The Vatican, situated within Rome, Italy, is the capital of the Catholic faith. Lead by a Pope, who is chosen by the
Cardinals when one dies or retires, is the source of leadership for Catholics around the world. It has also been a
source for many conspiracy theories. Dan Brown even set his Illuminati based novel Angels and Demons in the
holy city of Catholics. Many others love to have Illuminati base theories set within this important place. What
people do not realize is that there is a much deeper, very real corruption going on within the walls of the sacred
city. The Vatican recently arrested two employees who worked on financial business for leaking information to two
authors whose books will be published and will expose the financial troubles of the Vatican. The books claims a
misuse of money by ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
While it is still debatable on whether or not the information in the expository books is trustworthy or not, there is
no doubt that financial mismanagement existed. If there had been no mismanagement, it would be very odd that
Pope Francis created groups and hired others to help with the finances and odd that he chastised employees for the
debts. It seems that Pope Francis is indeed what the leadership of the Catholics needed. He has begun changing the
way things are in social concerns as well. He focuses on changing the Vatican and the leadership of the faith for
the better. Financial corrections and the end of corruption is just one of the many ways he is doing so. While it is
not the deep conspiracy corruption many in the world fantasize about, the financial troubles because of officials
not wanting to pay so much or whatever truly happened is still a troubling corruption in itself. Those who work for
the papacy need to embody the traits that believers would expect of someone who works for the Catholic faith.
Pope Francis is the one who will make sure that that reform is

Analysis of Emily Dickinson s Because I Could Not Stop for Death
In regard to Emily Dickinson s poem, Because I Could Not Stop for Death, Critic Eunice Glenn says: In the first
two lines Death, personified as a carriage driver, stops for one who could not stop for him. The word kindly is
particularly meaningful, for it instantly characterizes Death. This comes with surprise, too, since death is more
often considered grim and terrible (Glenn). Critic Charles R. Anderson says, Death, usually rude, sudden, and
impersonal, has been transformed into a kindly and leisurely gentleman (Anderson).
Both critics seem to agree on the significance of the word kindly in the first two lines of the poem. Because I could

Critic Patricia Engle, on the other hand, looks further and asks, What does the speaker or anyone stop doing for
Death? Answering her own question, Engle says: We stop living. In order to illustrate her point, she goes on to say,
in reference to the speaker of the poem, She realizes that she cannot recognize Death s power over her. Once she
reckons with that eternal or divine bent within her, Death stops; that is, Death ceases to be what Death is an end
(Engle 74). Given deeper analysis of the poem as a whole, this interpretation appears to be the most accurate.
Death is not the final stopping point for our speaker. The carriage only paused at the grave (17). The Horses Heads
/ Were toward Eternity (23 24). The poem suggests that death was not meant to be an end human existence will go
on for eternity. This accounts for the third, often overlooked, passenger in the carriage Immortality (4). Mortals
don t stop for death death stops for them. Death gives way to immortality, and thus, stops being an end. Even if she
had wanted to, the speaker could not have stopped for Death. The grave is merely a brief pause on the journey
toward Eternity.
Dickinson had a definite purpose when she chose to personify death as a carriage driver. According to the

Summary Of The Book One Flew Over The Cuckoo s
n August 6, 1945, America destroyed the city of Hiroshima with a massive bomb. The bomb kills nearly 100,000
people and injures 100,000 more. The book traces the lives of six survivors (Reverend Mr. Kiyoshi Tanimoto,
Father Wilhelm Kleinsorge, Toshiko Sasak, Dr. Masakazu Fujii, Dr. Terufumi Sasaki, Mrs. Hatsuyo Nakamura,

revisits these six people s lives forty years after the bomb. In conclusion Hersey finds that the effects of nuclear
war never faded away. The citizens of Hiroshima still suffered years after, and nuclear war continues to threaten
the entire world.
The main theme of the book to me is the overcoming of such a large devastation in every one of those people s
lives and as a community. In Chapter Four, One feeling they did seem to share, however, was a curious kind of

The Pros And Cons Of Virtual Reality
Since the beginning of the 21st century, events like the 9/11 terrorist attacks, stock market crash, and North Korea
s missile tests, have tested humanity s strength. From uncontrollably weeping in one s own room to interlocking
arms in unity, humans react quite differently to hardships/tragedy; nevertheless, all people want to feel connected
to something greater. These actions are prompted by adversity and sorrow. The time has come where technological
advancements need to attend to the broken and emotional distraught culture that these global issues have created.
Rather than letting technology advance beyond human emotion, technology must advance to nurture the needs of
humans. One technological advancement aimed at connecting humans on an emotional level is virtual reality.
Virtual reality is a computer generated simulation of a three dimensional image/environment that can be interacted
with by the user. It works by having the images respond to the user s movement, thereby giving the user the sense
of being immersed. This artificial environment affords users the opportunity to explore the unknown and discover
a universe of possibilities.
Virtual reality is the ultimate empathy machine. Movies are made up of small frames. These frames are really just
viewing windows, windows that transports one into another dimension. A movie only places the audience in
viewing position of the window, but virtual reality pushes the user beyond the windows and frames of a movie,

Sedimentary rocks
Clastic sedimentary rocks are composed of fragments of older rocks that have been deposited and consolidated
boulders greater than 25.6 cm cobbles 6.4 to 25.6 cm pebbles 2 mm to 6.4 cm sand 1/16 mm to 2 mm silt 1/256

Was the 2003 invasion in Iraq a legitimate humanitarian intervention?
Whether the 2003 invasion in Iraq was a legitimate humanitarian intervention or not, is two folded. For instance,
when viewed in the perspective of protecting the Iraqi citizens from the inhumane reign that they were subjected
to, the invasion can said to be legitimate humanitarian intervention. On the other hand, when the invasion is seen
in terms of its aftermath such as the destruction caused by it, the unpredictability nature of the war (Lambeth,
2013), and its effect that undermined the motives or rather the expectations of the Iraqi citizens, since it was
associated with mass killings, then the invasion will not be regarded as a legitimate humanitarian intervention.
The non legitimacy of the humanitarian intervention is evident whereby, the invasion in Iraq by the US, Great
Britain along with other coalition forces turned out to be disastrous. This is because, it aggravated the
humanitarian crisis and also had a major political, military, legal, economic and strategic consequences. Even
though Saddam Hussein did not set any fires to the Iraqi oil fields or use the alleged weapons related to mass
destruction, the war had numerous serious results that ranged from death along with destruction in Iraq, and also
led to regional instability (Wehrey, 2010), despite the fact that itdid not take long.
When it comes to the aggravation of the humanitarian crisis, the war led to population displacement and

A few drops of hydrochloric acid, HCL were added to both of the solutions and the observations were recorded. It
is observed that bubbles were formed in the sodium carbonate solution. It can be said that effervescence occurred
during the reaction. Effervescence can be defined as the escape of gas from a solution and the foaming and fizzing
that results from the release of a gas. As there is a gas that is released from the solution, the composition of the
solution and its molecular formula must have undergone a change during the reaction and this change can be
classified as a chemical change. This is because, when the sodium carbonate solution reacts with the hydrochloric
acid, it will produce sodium chloride, NaCl, water, H2O and carbon dioxide, CO2. The gas bubbles produced were
carbon dioxide gases. As the final substance differs in composition and in their molecular formula with the original
substance, it can be concluded that the change in this reaction is a chemical change. Different with the sodium
hydroxide solution, NaOH, that doesn t show any visible changes when it reacts with the hydrochloric acid.
Although there is no visible change that can be observed, this does not mean that there is no changes taking place

The Hierarchy Of Structure And Agency
There is a constant debate about the primacy of structure or agency in forming human behavior in the social
science. Carlsnaes (as cited in Hay, 1995) claimed that the problem of structure and agency is ... the central
problem of social and political theory . Radically, the agency structure problem is an ontological problem which is
related to the nature of structures, agents and their correlations (Wight, 2003). There are four influential positions
in the structure agency debate: structuralism, intentionalism, structuration theory and critical realism (Hay, 1995).
In his book, structuralism emphasizes the dominance of structure rather than agency on behavior. It is a structure
centered approach, arguing that structures constrain and even determine agency in the relationship between
structure and agency. However, intentionalism highlights the agents in explaining behavior. It is an agency
centered approach that regards structures as the product of intentional acts. Structuration theory presents a
developed attempt to transcend the dualism in which structure and agency are connected externally. It argues for
the duality of structure . Critical realism is based on a dialectical cognizance of structure and agency, striving to
overcome the dualism of the two. It links to strategic relational approach . This essay will argue that structure and
agency is a dialectical unity of relationship, and they entail and affect each other. In exceptional circumstances,
they can be

studied Alzheimer s disease in order to come to conclusions on what the disease is and what can cure the disease.
This disease can cause critical damage to a human s body from the symptoms to the treatment that is followed by

In the early stages of the disease the symptoms usually begin to occur when the patient has more memory loss and

behaviors and can typically be overlooked causing later discovery of the disease. As previously stated, memory
loss is the first sign of dementia and an example would be not remembering where you placed your keys or how to
properly get dressed. It begins with the easier tasks that become difficult for everyday functioning. Mild Alzheimer
s disease involves increased memory loss, wandering or getting lost, repeating questions, taking longer to
complete daily tasks, and changes in personality. In the mild stage a patient is commonly diagnosed. Moderate
Alzheimer s disease occurs when the disease begins to progress. In this stage, the brain has a hard time with
controlling language, forming reasoning, sensory process, and conscious thoughts. In the moderate stage it
becomes tougher on the ones close to the patients due to the fact that it becomes harder and harder for the patient
to recognize and learn new things. Severe Alzheimer s disease is when plaques and tangles spread through the
patient s brain, brain tissue shrinks tremendously, communication is eliminated, and care is necessary. At this stage
of Alzheimer s the patient becomes bed ridden and is at the end stage. As a result of the symptoms, functioning as

Reflection Paper On How I Changed As A Speaker
I have changed as a speaker in various ways over this past semester. I have gotten more comfortable with myself
as a speaker. I learned instead of being scared and nervous to talk in front of my classmates, to just put my self in a
place where I feel comfortable. For example when I am speaking in front of the class, I imagine myself standing in
my living room just talking to my dad. Another thing that helped me get through my speech is choosing a topic
that I know a lot about, this helped my feel more comfortable about what I was talking about. This helps build
credibility. I realized that everyone is going to have a strong opinion about certain topics but if you can provide
valid information and have good arguing point in a speech then it could really change peoples minds about a
certain topic. After I completed my first speech I really understood what it took to be a good speaker, especially
after getting feed back from my classmates. This helped improve confidence and all other aspects of me speaking
in front of a crowd. I felt as if the outlines helped me a lot. They gave me a basic idea of what I need to do and say.
They also helped me organize my thoughts and help me stay on track. The quizzes also helped me understand the
topics and why we needed to set up the outline the way we do. It also helped me understand what was most

Brown V. Board Of Education Of Topeka
Brown v. Board of Education of Topeka, 347 U.S. 483 (1954), was a landmark United States Supreme Court case
in which the Court declared state laws establishing separate public schools for black and white students to be
unconstitutional. The decision overturned the Plessy v. Ferguson decision of 1896, which allowed state sponsored
segregation, insofar as it applied to public education. Handed down on May 17, 1954, the Warren Court s
unanimous (9 0) decision stated that separate educational facilities are inherently unequal. As a result, de jure
racial segregation was ruled a violation of the Equal Protection Clause of the Fourteenth Amendment of the United
States Constitution. This ruling paved the way for integration and was a major victory of the Civil Rights
Movement.[1] However, the decision s fourteen pages did not spell out any sort of method for ending racial
segregation in schools, and the Court s second decision in Brown II only ordered states to desegregate with all

The world in the modern history is faced with many crises which have been growing since the Second World War.
This has been as a result of the United States and the British military embarking on wars against terrorism which
threatens the future life of people. A series of events have been witnessed concerning the war on crimes committed
after the cold war era. For instance the continuum in the US concerning the Truman doctrine and then the war on
terrorism initiated by the former United States president George Bush. Of great concern is how can the
government control terrorism and yet on the other hand it seems they are collaborating with other nations in
production of the equipments of mass destruction. The government officials have been involved in inspection of
missiles from Iraq and the allegation that the Clinton government helped Bosnia with military actions by recruiting
people who ended up forming the Military Islamic Network consisting mostly of Muslims (Chossudovsky).
The government developed the nuclear weapons for responding to the nuclear attacks but instead, these weapons
are used to fight those other nations with no nuclear weapons in order to stop the conflicts on the U.S. and ensure
their success. In addition the CIA creates terrorist organizations and the same people give warning against terrorist
attacks which they aided in creating leading to the

Replacement Advertising on the Web
Replacement Advertising on the Web Is it Legally and Ethically
Acceptable?
Summary
=======
This report discusses the legality and ethics of a new piece of software launched in February 2001, which allows
ISP s to overlay advertising banners on any web page on the net with adverts sold by, and controlled by them.
Investigations led to discussions about
Copyright infringement and European Competition Law. Many examples of
Case Law were also investigated for their possible links with issues arising from the use of this software.

Upon reading the whole of this article (Appendix A) I found it very interesting and thought provoking not only
because this software development was so new, having only been released on 12th February
2001, but also because it was originally developed at Brunel
University and is being marketed by a local company in Leeds.
This new piece of software called Fotino allows ISP s to control the adverts which appear on a web page. The
software allows them to overlay advertising banners on any page on the net with adverts sold by, and controlled by
them. It was developed from the idea that ISP s hold more personal information about their customers and can
therefore target the advertising much more successfully. (A printout of the
Marketing material for the product can be seen in appendix B.)
In the article from the Telegraph web site in an extract taken from an interview with the Chief Executive of

INTRODUCTION
English teachers don t need to be told the enormous value and pleasure of reading whole texts as class readers.
Little compares with that feeling when a class are truly engaged in the reading of a really good book. Those
moments stay with you forever indeed, they fuel the desire to find another such book to repeat the experience,
again and again. Fortunately, contemporary writers of fiction for young adults continue to offer us fresh
opportunities to enjoy literature with our students.

Drug Subdiction And Drug Addiction
Drug addiction is a crippling problem in the United States, and has the possibility of affecting every single person.
May it be from someone in the upper class, to a single mother who is living in poverty, this form of substance
abuse is becoming more and more abundant in recent times. Unfortunately, many people who have never dealt
with or looked into substance abuse often blame the individual for what happened. The sociological imagination,
on the other hand, says otherwise. According to C Wright Mills sociological imagination, private troubles, such as
substance abuse, often have a root in public issues of social structure. Sadly, the societal roots of many issues are
not seen by others, causing the individual and their choices to be seen as the cause of their problem. In turn, this
view may support a punitive perspective against the person in question. In the case of Brittney May, her drug
addiction had started at a relatively young age, and as a result of it, she had ended up in prison. Although she has
been released after her first long sentence, she ended up being convicted again, and is currently in prison.
Additionally, her prison sentence ended up making her lose custody of her child. Fortunately, her old mother
agreed to take care of that child.
Growing up in a low income bracket neighborhood, Brittney was already placed in a society which had a number
of adverse effects on her. Ranging from negative peer pressure from the children surrounding her, to the

Example Of An Outsider Research Paper
Many people describe themselves as Outsiders without knowing what one is, know you can ask yourself, are you
an outsider ? Outsiders are people who are misunderstood. This can mean multiple things. For Example, not being
understood by your peers, not being heard the way you want to be heard, and not being in the right situation but
being in that situation. There are many scenarios were one is misunderstood and therefore being labeled as an
Outsider. For example in Metamorphosis Gregor tried being understood by his family but as a bug it was hard for
him. Following that in benjamin franklin s story, he was misunderstood and was thought up as weird which made
him an outsider. In the Metamorphosis, Gregor, went through this transformation into

Reaction Paper About Stress
Stress is how the brain and body respond to any change that requires an adjustment or response. Throughout our
lives we have been told by our friends and family that we need to minimize our stress and manage it before it gets
too out of hand. This leads to us looking at stress as a terrible thing that will ruin our lives. Everyone is affected by
stress and it is something that is a part of our daily lives. The key thing to remember is that stress is not always a
bad thing. It has been proven that looking at stress as a good thing rather than a bad thing can actually make you
stress less. There are two main types of stress. Eustress, which is the good stress, and distress which is the bad
stress. Dealing with the eustress is what most people will think is relatively easy as you don t have to do anything
about it and don t have to get rid of it., it s the distress that people tend to have issues controlling. Being stressed
for a long period of time can lead to a number of different problems such as anxiety. It is important to recognize
that you are stressed, figure out exactly what is stressing you out, and then act according to what your stressor is.
In order to minimize or even get rid of your stress and anxiety, you will need to know the symptoms, common
stressors, and when, where, and how to seek professional help.
Stress and anxiety is something that can be very hard to recognize in ourselves. People tend to deny that they are
stressed, or even just mistake the symptoms

The Importance Of Social And Personal Identity
Everyone has an identity. A person s characters are the combination of their memories, thoughts, feelings, and
personal experiences. If you are meeting someone new for the first time, what do you see? Their difficult
childhood? Their struggles to get where they are? People can only see other s outer identity and not their character
because the components that are the core of one s character is covered up by their external identity, the labels. The
labels shape a person s social and personal identity in society and the environment they grew up in, conforming
them to the norm and dispossesses the identities of those who are different.
The human mind seeks order in chaos. It attempts to organize information provided to it. The human mind doesn t
like the unknown, so it will find similarities that the unknown has with something it knows. When meeting
someone new, the brain assigns a label to them, categorizing that person s characteristics and traits and group them
with others with similar characteristics. A tag is created to differentiate people who differ from the norm. In
society, people are labeled based on their race, culture, gender, etc. If you tagged a person as Irish, using that label,
when you are describing that person to someone else, they would have an idea of what the person you are
describing is like since they would associate the person s traits with similar traits with the same label. Categorizing
the complex nature of human identities is impossible. These

Education Is A Growing Aspect Of The Health Care Field
Education is a growing aspect in the health care field. It has an important effect for all health care providers.
Nursing goes back many generations. It started as a learned skill for caring for the sick and wounded in the war.
Nursing evolved into diploma nursing, to Associate Degree of Nursing (ADN), Bachelor s Degree of Nursing
(BSN), and Master s Degree of Nursing. Today, as many as 52.6% of nurses list their highest degree as an ADN
(The Impact of Education..). However, hospitals are pushing their nurses to return to school and obtain a BSN.
What is the big push to have a bachelor s degree? Are nurses that have a bachelor s more competent in taking care
of patients than those to obtain an ADN? First, lets look at the education ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

A BSN degree includes all of the hands on care of nursing which is included in an ADN program. The bachelor s
program includes research about evidenced based nursing practice and leadership skills not taught in an associate
degree program. The bachelors program prepares nurses to take roles as care providers, managers, and
coordinators in nursing care. According to The Institue of Medicine (IOM) in their report The Future of Nursing:
Focus on Education, the 21st centry brings on many health challenges including the majority of the population
being older adults (65 years and older), and the population is more diverse. The IOM reports that most health care
today relates to more chronic conditions, such as diabetes, hypertension, and cardiovascular disease due to the
aging population and increasing obesity levels. Patient needs are more complex, and nurses need higher
competencies in leadership, health policy, teamwork and collaboration to deliver the care. To respond to the
increasing demands of the more complex patients, the IOM calls for nurses to achieve higher levels of education.
A BSN education provides nurses with a wider range of competencies to care for patients. The IOM recommends
that 80% of

  • 2. Analysis Of The Happy Garden Of Life In his short story 2 B R 0 2 B, Kurt Vonnegut encapsulates a perfect society that defies the odds. One in which old age is conquered, disease is unheard of, and death is a mountain that only volunteers choose to climb. Though a perfect world seems favorable, the nature defying aspects of this society come with a cost. The foundation of the this civilization is built on the ideal of population control; in order for one life to enter the world, another life must be taken out through government regulated gas chambers. Shortly after introducing the supposedly flawless nation, Vonnegut creates the centerpiece of its ideals and foundation: a neat, painted mural titled The Happy Garden of Life . In 2 B R 0 2 B, The Happy Garden of Life is used to symbolize a seemingly utopian nation, but as the vines of the story disentangle, it becomes evident that the compositional elements of the painting reveal the corruption lying within the society s foundation. By examining the details of the painted men and women, alongside the recurring motifs of white, purple, and fruit, one can conclude Vonnegut uses the mural to demonstrate the dystopia s desensitization to death. The first striking aspect about The Happy Garden of Life is a mutual trait portrayed among the majority of the painted men and women. Though not in the initial description, the figures are repeatedly referred to in the text as being blank, faceless bodies. With the mural symbolizing the world as a whole, this element ... How could one not be interested in learning more about the flattened animals that litter our roads? I was certainly intrigued by the idea that the study of these very dead animals actually exists. This book contains all sorts of information about flattened fauna such as how to study it, where to study it, why flattened fauna exists, details about the most popular and or dangerous fauna, and of course why it is studied in the first place. The following paragraphs will give a summary of the book Flattened Fauna, what to expect of the book, and how the book relates to furthering ones knowledge of Biology. The author states that this book is supposed to encourage the appreciation and study of road fauna. The author even mentions that a trip of one thousand miles presents the opportunity to see, identify, and possibly enjoy four hundred to four thousand animals. The author encourages the reader to think of the road as a habitat. Most animal habitats such as forests, lakes, marshes, and such have been apart of the world for millions of years, and the new roads conveniently run through these habitats. These new roads and highways are a relatively new part of these animals natural habitat, but the animals still include these roads as a part of their traditional habitat. Animals have not had a significant amount of time to adapt to this relatively new habitat. The road fauna is quite new ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Rhetorical Analysis Of The Lion King The Lion King Almost everyone in the world is familiar with the infamous Disney movie The Lion King, but very few have gone into detail and analyzed the rhetoric within the film. It is interesting to see how the voices, color, and actions of each character have such an effect on their personalities which then has an effect on the audience and leaves them judging the morals of the characters. • 6. The Rise Of Sexual Slavery And The Islamic State Essay Sydney Smith Professor Morrison Religion 2208 Islam 12 November 2016 The Rise of Sexual Slavery and the Islamic State Over the past decade, armed conflict has escalated Iraq and Syria; subsequently, violence against women has become prevalent among members of the Islamic State. High ranking officials have normalized the systematic enslavement of thousands of women and have revitalized the practice of sexual slavery in the region. In her essay, Redeeming Slavery, Kecia Ali attributes this phenomenon to the Islamic State s attempted renewal of religious sentiments; even though she disputes claims that this practice represents a correct interpretation of Islamic beliefs, Ali argues that the widespread normalization of sexual slavery is at least portrayed by leaders as a return to the original beliefs and practices of early Muslim authorities. Jessica Stern, in her essay, Response to Kecia Ali, agrees with Ali that religious scholars ought not attempt to judge IS s actions as Islamic or un Islamic; however, she fundamentally disagrees about the nature and origin of the militant group s practice of modern slavery. Stern instead attributes it to political expediency and practicality, emphasizing that the allure of sex serves as an important recruitment tool for the group. Though they disagree about the nature of the Islamic State s relationship to slavery, Ali and Stern both agree that the attempt to situate IS on a rigid binary of Islamic or un Islamic is problematic and ... Claim According to the Law of Conservation of Mass inside a controlled system, mass cannot be created nor destroyed, only transformed. This statement is accurate, however, a human error occurred when I performed this experiment. According to my data in the Ziplock bag experiment, the information I collected did not support the Law of Conservation of Mass. Evidence Throughout the Ziplock bag experiment, the Law of Conservation of Mass was present in 50% of the ten groups ( five out of the ten groups). To collect the mass of everything, the first direction was to take the mass of the materials used in the experiment. For the Law of Conservation of Mass to be activated, the Ziplock bag needed to be closed. If a gas was to be formed, no mass would be created nor destroyed because in a closed or controlled system nothing is able to escape. Based on the four pieces of data I collected in my data table, the mass of 75% of my data before and after the experiment stayed the same. ... • 11. Neo-Marxist Filmmakers Neo Marxist filmmakers were greatly influenced by Althusser s theory of ideology, which viewed film as an ideological apparatus that tried to determine how films turn viewers into their subject, and encourage them to believe not only in the represented reality, but also in their preferred one, the one that could not exist without their structuring. For example, the Jean Louis Baudry s article Ideological effects of the Basic Cinematographic Apparatus (1985) says that the making of movies is a results of the recent capitalism s need to restore in people minds the illusion of having control over their own lives. The illusion was needed for their willing participation in the new industrial style of production that actually took away the remains of their self control. Baudry found ideological properties in the film apparatus itself that constitute a transcendental concentrated subject, and therefore induce a willingness to cooperate with the capitalist mode of production. An observer who accepts the position set by a painting, whereby his or hers eye overlays the painting s point of view, experiences the full illusion of depth. This effect has a strong ideological outcome since, in ideological terms, the painting arranges the viewer space in a centered and organized form that appears to originate from the painting. The Role Of The Dublin Lockout Of 1913 James Larkin, the leader of the Irish Trade Union and the founder of the Irish Transport and General Workers Union once said The employers cannot carry on industry nor accumulate profits if they have not got the good will of the workers or their acquiescence in carrying on such industry. In 1911, over 300,000 people lived in Dublin. The unemployment rates were high and the average labourers wage was around one pound a week, and that was only if they had a full week of work. Living conditions were equally as inadequate as the working wages. Lydia Carroll and Enda Leaney found in a housing enquiry that 87,305 people lived in poverty, almost a third of Dublin s population. 80% of families lived in one room dwellings. According to the Public Health Report of 1913, 8,639 deaths were recorded, 1,444 were from tuberculosis and 4,642 were from nervous, circulatory, respiratory, and digestive diseases such as diarrhoea and pneumonia due to inadequate sanitary and nutrition.(Devine, pg 3 4) These conditions sparked many protests as workers became desperate. Another term that is prevalent to understanding the process is sociopathic leader. This is used to describe an individual who lacks a conscience and is manipulative and ruthless in gaining power. It is beneficial to be devoid of natural human emotions because it functions as a wall, blocking out the screams of an oppressed community. Sociopathic leaders also tend to be authoritarian rulers, who appeal to fear to command constrictive obedience to authority figures. Scapegoating plays upon this suffocating fear of the citizens by alienating an entire group, usually a minority, and accusing them of causing the destruction of the country. Dehumanization of those being scapegoated erases the human qualities and releases the guilt of the community so that it can openly blame innocents. Labeling, or classifying a group of people as having a specific characteristic, assists in the dehumanization process. Although an inexperienced candidate does not technically need to have any previous political knowledge, it is extremely beneficial to understand these terms and how they will be ... • 19. Requirements For Querying The Web Of Linked Data 5. Requirement for Web of Linked Data. 5.1 Approaches for Querying the Web of Linked Data. 5.1.1 Live Exploration Approaches. This kind of approach make use of the character of ( Webs of Linked Data ), in the existence of data links. To execute a requested Linked Data query, live exploration systems perform a recursive URI lookup process during which they incrementally discover further URIs that also qualify for lookup. Thus, such a system explores the queried Web by traversing data links at query execution time. While the data retrieved during such an exploration allows for a discovery of more URIs to look up, it also provides the basis for constructing the query result. Live exploration systems may not need to look up all URIs ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... For instance, a hybrid approach may use an index to determine a suitable set of seed URIs as input for a subsequent live exploration process. This process may than feedback information for updating, for expanding, or for reorganizing the index. An alternative idea is a hybrid approach that uses an index only to prioritize discovered data links and, thus, to control a live exploration process. 5.2 Querying of Web of Linked Data using SPARQL. We observed two interesting findings from the history of relational and XML databases. Firstly, from query perspective, it is desirable that an existing query language is extended to retrieve a new type of data, allowing information from two formats to be correlated. For instance, use SQL to query both existing relational data and new XML data. Secondly, from data management perspective, it is valuable to express existing data with a newly defined data model and query them with the corresponding query language. For example, publish relational data in an XML form for exchange purpose and use XQuery to retrieve them from databases. Here, we briefly summarize the potential interoperability of semantic web with relational and XML databases from data management and query perspectives. Table 1 illustrates some extensions of existing query languages for access to new types of the data. It is well known that SQL is extended to query both relational and XML data, namely SQL/XML, allowing SQL queries to create XML structures with a few ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Lead by a Pope, who is chosen by the Cardinals when one dies or retires, is the source of leadership for Catholics around the world. It has also been a source for many conspiracy theories. Dan Brown even set his Illuminati based novel Angels and Demons in the holy city of Catholics. Many others love to have Illuminati base theories set within this important place. What people do not realize is that there is a much deeper, very real corruption going on within the walls of the sacred city. It seems that Pope Francis is indeed what the leadership of the Catholics needed. He has begun changing the way things are in social concerns as well. He focuses on changing the Vatican and the leadership of the faith for the better. Financial corrections and the end of corruption is just one of the many ways he is doing so. Analysis of Emily Dickinson s Because I Could Not Stop for Death In regard to Emily Dickinson s poem, Because I Could Not Stop for Death, Critic Eunice Glenn says: In the first two lines Death, personified as a carriage driver, stops for one who could not stop for him. The word kindly is particularly meaningful, for it instantly characterizes Death. This comes with surprise, too, since death is more often considered grim and terrible (Glenn). Critic Charles R. Anderson says, Death, usually rude, sudden, and impersonal, has been transformed into a kindly and leisurely gentleman (Anderson). Both critics seem to agree on the significance of the word kindly in the first two lines of the poem. Because I could ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Critic Patricia Engle, on the other hand, looks further and asks, What does the speaker or anyone stop doing for Death? Answering her own question, Engle says: We stop living. In order to illustrate her point, she goes on to say, in reference to the speaker of the poem, She realizes that she cannot recognize Death s power over her. Once she reckons with that eternal or divine bent within her, Death stops; that is, Death ceases to be what Death is an end (Engle 74). Given deeper analysis of the poem as a whole, this interpretation appears to be the most accurate. Death is not the final stopping point for our speaker. The carriage only paused at the grave (17). The Horses Heads / Were toward Eternity (23 24). The poem suggests that death was not meant to be an end human existence will go on for eternity. This accounts for the third, often overlooked, passenger in the carriage Immortality (4). Mortals don t stop for death death stops for them. Death gives way to immortality, and thus, stops being an end. Even if she had wanted to, the speaker could not have stopped for Death. The grave is merely a brief pause on the journey toward Eternity. Dickinson had a definite purpose when she chose to personify death as a carriage driver. The Pros And Cons Of Virtual Reality Since the beginning of the 21st century, events like the 9/11 terrorist attacks, stock market crash, and North Korea s missile tests, have tested humanity s strength. From uncontrollably weeping in one s own room to interlocking arms in unity, humans react quite differently to hardships/tragedy; nevertheless, all people want to feel connected to something greater. These actions are prompted by adversity and sorrow. The time has come where technological advancements need to attend to the broken and emotional distraught culture that these global issues have created. Rather than letting technology advance beyond human emotion, technology must advance to nurture the needs of humans. One technological advancement aimed at connecting humans on an emotional level is virtual reality. Virtual reality is a computer generated simulation of a three dimensional image/environment that can be interacted with by the user. It works by having the images respond to the user s movement, thereby giving the user the sense of being immersed. This artificial environment affords users the opportunity to explore the unknown and discover a universe of possibilities. Virtual reality is the ultimate empathy machine. Whether the 2003 invasion in Iraq was a legitimate humanitarian intervention or not, is two folded. For instance, when viewed in the perspective of protecting the Iraqi citizens from the inhumane reign that they were subjected to, the invasion can said to be legitimate humanitarian intervention. On the other hand, when the invasion is seen in terms of its aftermath such as the destruction caused by it, the unpredictability nature of the war (Lambeth, 2013), and its effect that undermined the motives or rather the expectations of the Iraqi citizens, since it was associated with mass killings, then the invasion will not be regarded as a legitimate humanitarian intervention. The non legitimacy of the humanitarian intervention is evident whereby, the invasion in Iraq by the US, Great Britain along with other coalition forces turned out to be disastrous. This is because, it aggravated the humanitarian crisis and also had a major political, military, legal, economic and strategic consequences. Even though Saddam Hussein did not set any fires to the Iraqi oil fields or use the alleged weapons related to mass destruction, the war had numerous serious results that ranged from death along with destruction in Iraq, and also led to regional instability (Wehrey, 2010), despite the fact that itdid not take long. Radically, the agency structure problem is an ontological problem which is related to the nature of structures, agents and their correlations (Wight, 2003). In his book, structuralism emphasizes the dominance of structure rather than agency on behavior. It is a structure centered approach, arguing that structures constrain and even determine agency in the relationship between structure and agency. However, intentionalism highlights the agents in explaining behavior. It is an agency centered approach that regards structures as the product of intentional acts. The decision overturned the Plessy v. Ferguson decision of 1896, which allowed state sponsored segregation, insofar as it applied to public education. Handed down on May 17, 1954, the Warren Court s unanimous (9 0) decision stated that separate educational facilities are inherently unequal. This ruling paved the way for integration and was a major victory of the Civil Rights Movement.[1] However, the decision s fourteen pages did not spell out any sort of method for ending racial segregation in schools, and the Court s second decision in Brown II only ordered states to desegregate with all deliberate speed . This new piece of software called Fotino allows ISP s to control the adverts which appear on a web page. The software allows them to overlay advertising banners on any page on the net with adverts sold by, and controlled by them. It was developed from the idea that ISP s hold more personal information about their customers and can therefore target the advertising much more successfully. (A printout of the Marketing material for the product can be seen in appendix B.) • 44. Drug Subdiction And Drug Addiction Drug addiction is a crippling problem in the United States, and has the possibility of affecting every single person. May it be from someone in the upper class, to a single mother who is living in poverty, this form of substance abuse is becoming more and more abundant in recent times. Unfortunately, many people who have never dealt with or looked into substance abuse often blame the individual for what happened. The sociological imagination, on the other hand, says otherwise. According to C Wright Mills sociological imagination, private troubles, such as substance abuse, often have a root in public issues of social structure. Sadly, the societal roots of many issues are not seen by others, causing the individual and their choices to be seen as the cause of their problem. In turn, this view may support a punitive perspective against the person in question. In the case of Brittney May, her drug addiction had started at a relatively young age, and as a result of it, she had ended up in prison. Although she has been released after her first long sentence, she ended up being convicted again, and is currently in prison. Additionally, her prison sentence ended up making her lose custody of her child. Fortunately, her old mother agreed to take care of that child. Growing up in a low income bracket neighborhood, Brittney was already placed in a society which had a number of adverse effects on her. Ranging from negative peer pressure from the children surrounding her, to the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 46. Reaction Paper About Stress Stress is how the brain and body respond to any change that requires an adjustment or response. Throughout our lives we have been told by our friends and family that we need to minimize our stress and manage it before it gets too out of hand. This leads to us looking at stress as a terrible thing that will ruin our lives. Everyone is affected by stress and it is something that is a part of our daily lives. The key thing to remember is that stress is not always a bad thing. It has been proven that looking at stress as a good thing rather than a bad thing can actually make you stress less. There are two main types of stress. Eustress, which is the good stress, and distress which is the bad stress. • 47. The Importance Of Social And Personal Identity Everyone has an identity. A person s characters are the combination of their memories, thoughts, feelings, and personal experiences. If you are meeting someone new for the first time, what do you see? Their difficult childhood? Their struggles to get where they are? People can only see other s outer identity and not their character because the components that are the core of one s character is covered up by their external identity, the labels. The labels shape a person s social and personal identity in society and the environment they grew up in, conforming them to the norm and dispossesses the identities of those who are different. The human mind seeks order in chaos. It attempts to organize information provided to it. The human mind doesn t like the unknown, so it will find similarities that the unknown has with something it knows. When meeting someone new, the brain assigns a label to them, categorizing that person s characteristics and traits and group them with others with similar characteristics. A tag is created to differentiate people who differ from the norm. In society, people are labeled based on their race, culture, gender, etc. If you tagged a person as Irish, using that label, when you are describing that person to someone else, they would have an idea of what the person you are describing is like since they would associate the person s traits with similar traits with the same label. Categorizing the complex nature of human identities is impossible. These ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 48. Education Is A Growing Aspect Of The Health Care Field Education is a growing aspect in the health care field. It has an important effect for all health care providers. Nursing goes back many generations. It started as a learned skill for caring for the sick and wounded in the war. Nursing evolved into diploma nursing, to Associate Degree of Nursing (ADN), Bachelor s Degree of Nursing (BSN), and Master s Degree of Nursing. Today, as many as 52.6% of nurses list their highest degree as an ADN (The Impact of Education..). However, hospitals are pushing their nurses to return to school and obtain a BSN. What is the big push to have a bachelor s degree? Are nurses that have a bachelor s more competent in taking care of patients than those to obtain an ADN? First, lets look at the education ... The bachelor s program includes research about evidenced based nursing practice and leadership skills not taught in an associate degree program. According to The Institue of Medicine (IOM) in their report The Future of Nursing: Focus on Education, the 21st centry brings on many health challenges including the majority of the population being older adults (65 years and older), and the population is more diverse. The IOM reports that most health care today relates to more chronic conditions, such as diabetes, hypertension, and cardiovascular disease due to the aging population and increasing obesity levels. Patient needs are more complex, and nurses need higher competencies in leadership, health policy, teamwork and collaboration to deliver the care. To respond to the increasing demands of the more complex patients, the IOM calls for nurses to achieve higher levels of education. A BSN education provides nurses with a wider range of competencies to care for patients. The IOM recommends that 80% of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
