Preparation of Pure Culture
It is necessary to isolate organisms in pure culture before studying and identifying them because a
pure culture originates from one cell.
Characteristics colonies from the original culture on the plates were picked with a sterile wire
loop (using surface streaking method) and this loop was used to make streak of the colony on the
surface of newly prepared sterile agar plates of NA,MA amp; MSA.

Introduction
According to Feeding America, a U.S. Hunger Relief Organization, over 50 million people suffer
from hunger in America. Although a complex issue, nonprofit organizations such as food banks
make tremendous contributions each year toward combating hunger. Unfortunately, the majority of
food donated to the Puyallup Food Bank located in Puyallup, Washington is heavily processed. A
heavily processed diet can lead to nutritional deficiencies in fiber, calcium, iron and vitamins. These
nutrients are vital to human survival.
Additionally, during non holiday months, donations to the Puyallup Food Bank decrease
considerably. To change this and help the food bank receive sufficient nutritional food donations
year round, team 6 decided to repurpose Sarah Pike s research project.
Using Ms. Pike s research, we realized the Puyallup Food Bank had issues in communicating its
needs effectively with the community. To assist in correcting this, we felt the design of a simple,
visually interesting call to action pamphlet would be an appropriate tool.

Incorporating Mississippi Works Progress Administration Slave Narratives, the diary of Emma
Finley, and excerpts of the Finley family cookbook from 1858 with artifact evidence found at the
Hugh Craft House from the foundation repair in 2008 and excavation artifacts from Fall 2014
and Spring 2015, together, will give a greater insight to the foodways of the Craft family and
slaves residing on the site. The purpose of this paper is to examine the artifacts collected, cataloged,
and analyzed thus far from the Hugh Craft house and slave dwelling site and compare the findings
to analysis of slave diets throughout the south up until 1860 to determine if the Hugh Craft family
and their nine slaves shared food or food patterns.

While much progress has been made in the practice of psychotherapy, most of the practices still
resonate with the views of the pioneers and are often improvements of these early theorists. The

ahead to see the future. In Kurt Vonnegut s novel Slaughterhouse Five, however, time travel does
not seem so helpful. Billy Pilgrim, Vonnegut s main character, has come unstuck in time. He
bounces back and forth between his past, present, and future lives in a roller coaster time trip that
proves both senseless and numbing. Examining Billy s time traveling, his life on Tralfamadore, and
the novel s schizophrenic structure shows that time travel is actually a metaphor for our human
