Why Is Power Important In The Great Gatsby
Money, success and power are determining factors in every major decision. The Great Gatsby
shows how that is relevant throughout the story. The majority of the book is focused around
trying to achieve the ultimate goal of success. Success shaped how characters developed and how
each of them take money, power and success relevant in every decision made. Throughout my
paper I will write about how money, power and success are key in this story.
Topic 1: They want to become successful.
Everyone wants to be successful. They strive to achieve unrealistic expectations. If everyone
makes 6 figures, then the dollar bill would become deluded. Inflation would be at a high. Not
everyone can be like Jay Gatsby.
Topic 2: Daisy chooses Money over Love
Many prefer love or money. Some prefer money over love. ... Show more content on

They could afford expensive houses and able to throw parties regularly. The people who didn t live
a lavish lifestyle were still attending the parties. The parties were amazing.
Topic 5: Maintaining your image
Characters like Jay Gatsby and Daisy had an image to maintain. People looked at them as if they
were special. They were noticed. Not everyone can be noticed though. Nick Carraway was often in
the background of these prolific characters.
Topic 6: Energy
I can t imagine how much energy it takes to be as renowned and famous as Jay Gatsby. He is
probably pestered most days. Measly matters and issues have consumed his life. This is quite sad.
Especially when he is unable to change how people look at him
Topic 7: Pressure
While being rich and famous sounds fun, it would come with much responsibility. People would
expect you to present yourself a certain way. You would also be expected to participate in certain
customs and social gatherings. The expectations placed upon someone of high wealth is quite
fascinating. I believe those expectations will never change

Spirited Away Shintoism
In the film, Spirited Away, there were many references displayed in regards to the Japanese culture
of Shintoism. A major aspect of Shintoism is the belief in the kami (divine beings). They also
include spirits that embody natural forces like wind and fire, animals, or an aspect of admiring
landscape, such as mountains or waterfalls. Even regular human beings can ultimately be revered
as kamiafter death as long as they lived a pure life. In Spirited Away, purity is one of the main
themes prevalent throughout the film. When the characters in the film resort themselves to greed,
they are punished with dire consequences. For example, Chihiro s parents were starving when they
arrived to the abandoned theme park and smelled an aroma of delicious... Show more content on

In fact, once Chihiro is in the strange world, Haku warns her to not make a noise so no one
would find out that she s a human. Once revealed that she is human, people are startled and start
to cause a riot (17:30). The audience doesn t know what s going on or what to think of the
spirits. Are they good or evil? For instance, Zeniba and Yubaba are twin sisters, yet they contrast
so much in evil and good. Zeniba is good, while Yubaba is bad. Nonetheless, they do not stick to
one personality as the mean Yubaba shows love and affection towards her child, and the good
Zeniba curses Haku. This causes confusion in the audience and leaves them questioning who s
good and who s evil. Also, No Face and the River spirit were both not good spirits in the beginning,
but lo and behold, they turned out to be good at the end under their facade. Spirited Away leaves
both good and evil spirits to coexist, as they create harmony and advocate peace. Another key point,
Yubaba stripped away Chihiro s true name, including Haku s, upon gaining employment at the
bathhouse. In order for Chihiro to recover continuity with her past, she must create a new identity.
Throughout her spiritual journey, Chihiro has overcome her problems and the problems of others.
At the end of the movie, when her parents mention that the big move must be scary for her, Chihiro

A Report Analyzing The Viability Of The Nuclear Fusion
Dear Upper Hutt City Council
Today I am writing you a report analysing the viability of the use of Nuclear Fusion as a energy
source in your community. I will analyse the feasibility of this kind of nuclear power in your
community by firstly explaining what nuclear fusion is and how it works. I will then use
calculations to estimate how this new energy produced could compare to the amount of energy
used by the city currently.
Nuclear Fusion occurs when two small nuclei fuse to form a larger nucleus (this is not to be
confused with fission). A large amount of energy is released, which can be explained simply
enough by the binding energy per nucleon. The nucleons in extremely small nuclei have more
energy than those in slightly larger nuclei. Because these nucleons have more energy, they have
less binding energy per nucleon (because the same total binding energy must be split evenly,
therefore more energy=less binding energy to go around). Because of this, when the reaction of
two smaller nuclei fusing takes place, the nucleons must have to lose energy. The subsequent
energy that they lose is the energy that is released. For all of this to happen, a fusion reaction
requires utterly immense temperature of millions of degrees celcius, just in order to force the
nuclei to move fast enough to fuse and stick.
The Prime example of Nuclear Fusion is the sun. It is obvious that atoms do not rest: the hotter they
get, the quicker they move. Temperatures reach 15,000,000В° C in the

Abigail Adams Letter Analysis
Abigail Adams, in her letter, introduces advice and caution to her son, John Quincy Adams
while he is on a trip to France with his father. Adams purpose is to allow her son to know what
she expects of him on his trip in France. She adopts an authoritative tone in order to show her son
that she knows what s best for him, and to make sure he experiences some feelings of fear, so he
will obey her wishes. In her letter, Abigail Adamsuses different types of rhetorical strategies to
help get her thoughts across. Abigail begins her letter by doing what any mother would do if her
son was on a trip without her, expresses hope that the trip was safe. Starting in paragraph two, she
moves into building an authoritative appeal by reminding her son she was the one who sent him
on this trip, due to the fact he is not capable of making wise decisions himself. Following this, she
tried to make him aware of the fact that he ВЁsubmitted to [her] adviceВЁ and he should not
ВЁgive [her] reason to lament itВЁ (Paragraph 2). This allows Abigail to show her authority over
her son, John QuincyAdams, and show him what she expects of him. Later in the letter she brings
to his attention the idea that he needs to acquire the French language. He is in France, therefore
he can learn the language, which could help him later in his life by being more diverse. When
bringing up the idea of him learning French, she is trying to make him feel some guilt. If she sent
him to France and he does not pick up the

Case Study Lego
The Lego Case Study
In 2014, LEGO announced record results. In the financial year 2013, the company revenues had
increased by 10% to 25.4 billion DKK (Annual Report). Profits before tax were 8.2 billion DKK
representing a net income of 24% while operating margins were at a staggering 32.8% (Annual
Report). However, the company s future had not always looked so promising. When Jorgen Vig
Knudstrop stepped in as CEO in 2003, he described the then financial state of the company as a
burning platform which generated negative cash flows that would lead to its eventual collapse
(Ashcroft 3). Sadly, his portrayal was not that far from the truth. Throughout the early 2000s, the
company was facing losses of ~1 billion DKK yearly and was falling behind it competitors, Mattel
and Hasboro (Annual Report). So how did LEGO turn itself around in a short span of 8 years? ...

returns and were capital intensive as a result, LEGO s bottom line plummeted. LEGO strayed too
far from its core business of manufacturing building blocks and ventured in industries which it no
knowledge or specific skills sets to compete in ( Fun and Games: The LEGO Success Story 2).
Also, a lack of financial and product profitability analysis meant that management had no idea
which products were making money and which were not producing adequate returns on investment.
Another problem was that retailers were constantly overstocked with products which offered
diminishing margins as clearance offers ensued (Ashcroft 14). This was due to a lack of

The Glies In Lord Of The Flies By William Golding
TCA 1 To start off, Golding s purpose is shaped through theme. His purpose is to show people are
evil. According to the passage it says, She was black and pink; and the great bladder of her belly
was fringed with a row of piglets that slept or burrowed and squeaked (Golding 1). This statement
shows that all of the British boys, except Simon, attacks a mother pigwho runs in the clearing.
Simon watches all of the boys literally killing the mother pig. This is the climactic part of the
novel because the boys completely lost their innocence. In doing so, the boys find pleasure and it
represents no civilizationleft. The slaughter of innocence shows that the boys can not go back to
civilization. Another example from the passagestates that, Then Jack found the throat and the hot
blood spouted over his hands. The sow collapsed under them and they were heavy and fulfilled
upon her. The butterflies still danced, preoccupied in the center of the clearing (Golding 12). This
sentence shows that all the boys turn into savages and that Jack, the boy that adores hunting and
killing just for the fun of it, influences the boys into enjoying rubbing the blood all over their
bodies. The boys kill the mother pig and simultaneously cheer and laugh. All in all, symbolically,
when the boys put the pig s head on a stick, it represents the darkness and evil within all humanity.
The human s actions about savagery v.s. the order of human civilization. Adding on, Golding s
purpose of showing

The Luteal Stage Of The Monthly Cycle Of Progesterone
Progesterone e is a hormone which stimulates and controls a number of functions such as,
maintaining a pregnancy and regulating the monthly cycle. It is produced in the ovaries, the
placenta (if a woman conceives) and the adrenal glands. After ovulation, the corpus luteum (it s an
empty follicle which is left after the egg is released) releases progesterone, which acts on the uterus
lining causing it to thicken in preparation for pregnancy. This phase is termed as the luteal phase of
the monthly cycle. If fertilization and implantation occur, the corpus luteum continues with its role
of progesterone production to sustain the pregnancy until the placenta has fully developed to take
over progesterone production. However, if a woman has inadequate

Truth In Politics Hannah Arendt Analysis
According to the text On Lying Writing Philosophical History after the Enlightenment and after
Arendt by Sophia Rosenfeld focuses on the works by Hannah Arendt. Arendt was a German
Jewish intellectual who fled Germany with the rise of Adolf Hitler in 1933, lived in Paris as a
stateless refugee and Zionist activist until 1941 and then fled to and settled in the United States
(Isaac). Hannah Arendt addresses in an essay on Political Lying written at the end of the 1960 s
and first years of 1970 s. During this time Arendt became an experienced world traveler.
According to Rosenfeld Arendt famously gets a lot of her past wrong (Rosenfeld 220). However,
Rosenfeld s study of Arendt s work is not to find error rather depict the history of the writing of the
French enlightenment. The Truth in Politics written by Arendt provides a tour of various ancient
and early modern thinkers, from Herodotus to Spinoza to James Madison, and of events in the
profound and recent past to name a few (qtd. in Rosenfeld 218 230).
The Truth in Politics expands upon Arendt s history of thought and politics and in her situation less
between Europe Totalitarianismand post war American democracy (qtd. in Rosenfeld 218 230).
Arendt resolves politics and deception link together in some way. Furthermore, not all lying past to

Evaluation Of A State Physical Activity Plan
Project Title: Implementation of a state physical activity plan: Realist evaluation of policy
implementation and the need to know what works (and what doesn t)
Problem Statement
While research on physical activity promotion has historically been on the impact of individual
level behavioral interventions, there has been substantial progress in identifying the role of
policymaking in creating population wide improvements (Brownson et al., 2007; Frank Kavage,
2009; Humpel, Owen, Leslie, 2002). As a result of the increasing evidence of modifying the built
environment through policy interventions (Kahn et al., 2002), the Center of Disease Control and
Prevention (CDC), National Institutes of Health (NIH), and Department of Health and Human
Services (DHHS) recommend these as a means of increasing physical activity in communities.
Nevertheless, little is known about how to quantify levels of policy implementation related to
physical activity in order to understand and appropriately interpret policy outcomes at the state and
local levels (Ogilvie et al., 2010; Sallis, Story, Lou, 2009). A process evaluation of the
implementation of a state level physical activity plan is proposed to improve our understanding of
the mechanisms of policy implementation using a realist evaluation method.
Analytic Framework
The need for evidence related to policy influences regarding physical activity are increasing in
importance as government, communities, and health professionals

Engineering Skills Gap At The Manufacturing Sector
Abstract
This report looks into what the future may look like for the manufacturing sector as well as
engineering in Wales. The future looks potentially very good, with many predictions of growth in
the manufacturing sector, with a possible ВЈ27 billion more each year from 2022, for the UK in
general, drawing more companies in and creating many more jobs in the process. However, the
main obstacle is an engineering skills gap, with many more engineers required to fill the vacancies
and replace the aging workforce, than Wales is currently producing. There are a number of
programs to try and increase the number of children studying STEM subjects and funding to create
more engineering apprenticeships. While the 2022 target is within reach a lot more work is needed
to produce the required number of engineers to make the growth possible.
Introduction
The manufacturing industry is comprised of businesses that manufacture and process products from
raw materials or commodities. It includes a vast range of sectors such as food, chemicals,
automotive, computer equipment and electronics. In most developed countries manufacturing takes
up a significant part of the economy.
This report will look at the current situation of the manufacturing sector as well as engineering in
Wales, and look into what the future may be like, as well as what is being done to achieve it.

International Adoptions Essay
INTRODUCTION
The number of international adoptions taking place in the United States is steadily increasing.
Many people looking to start a family in the United States are turning to international adoptions
because the process is easier than adopting within this country. However, many of these adoptive
parents are not ready for the challenges of adopting a child from another country. Not only are the
adoptive parents and the children at different levels of readiness to attach but the child is forced
into a new culture as well. Many of the children adopted internationally have been mistreated prior

A number of children when adopted come to the United States with nothing from their cultural
pasts and must face the anti immigrant sentiment that is prevalent in our society. Many adopted
children are mourning the loss of their cultural context in many ways that adoptive parents and
practitioners are not prepared to deal with.
Although the number of international adoptions are increasing in the United States there have been
few studies focusing on the adjustment, identity, and attachment of international adoptees. There is
very little research on adult adoptees and the ethnic/cultural socialization and identity
developmental process. According to Freidlander (1999), most of the available research considers
self esteem or adjustment of adopted children, not the process by which they begin forming an
understanding and acceptance of their identity.
This topic merits attention in the research field so this study proposes to understand the adoptive
experience of internationally adopted adults in terms of their identity development, attachment
experience, and adaptation to life in an American family. A qualitative interview approach will be
used while interviewing internationally adopted adults to understand the complex experience of
adoption and how one adapts to this experience. This study is developed in hopes to inform
prospective adoptive families and mental health practitioners of the experiences and challenges
faced by international adoptees so they are

Ailuropoda melanoleuca commonly known as Giant Panda, is a species of bear that is found in

they inhabit broadleaf and coniferous forest with a thick bamboo under storey at elevations

Essay about The Time Machine by H.G. Wells
The Time Machine by H.G. Wells
Works Cited Not Included
Time traveling, a concept known to modern man as inconceivable, but in The Time Machine, by
H.G. Wells, this fathom of human fantasy has come to life. Wells entangles a unique blend of
contrasting characters, conflicts of capitalist verses laborer divisions, and foreshadowing of the
destruction of humanity to seem together this novel of visionary proportions. The Time Machine is
a bleak and sober vision of man s place in the Universe. (McConnell Pg.1581)
Well s use of characters in The Time Machine brings a heavy sense of contrast and diversity into
the story. There are five main characters around which the story revolves. Beginning with the Eloi
and the Morlocks, which are ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The Morlocks, on the other hand from the Eloi, are the laborer and harsher branch of humanity.
The Morlocks are hairy and monstrous creatures with red glowing eyes and razor sharp teeth. He
is supprised to learn of another people, the Morlocks, ugly, fearsome, and subterranean. (Molson
Pg.600) The Morlocks live under ground in a subterranean environment running machines and
underground factories. Due to their adaptations to their underground living environment, the
Morlocks only come to the upper world in the dark, for they cannot stand the glare of sunlight.
They are strange little beings whose pallid bodies are just the half bleached color of the worms
and things one sees preserved in spirit in a zoological museum. They are chinless, and in their
faces are set great lidless, pinkish grey eyes that glow of red. At night they leave their subterranean
world to hunt down Eloi for food. (McConnell Pg.3865)
The next character is the Time Traveler himself, who remains nameless throughout the whole
novel. He is an inventor with an infatuation of the future and Darwin s theory of the fourth
dimension. The Time Traveler is middle class citizen, just as Wells was in his day. The traveler is
highly concerned with the world to come and has spent years perfecting his spectacular machine. It
took two years to make, retorted the Time Traveler. (Wells Pg.14)

Roswell And Ufos
This essay will be about how the perspective of Roswell/UFO s have changed over time. How after
this incident, UFO s have been seen all over the world. In America, over 80% of it s population
now believe that UFO s exist (Wilson). Now for what reason would so many people start to believe
that UFO s exist. Will aliens were believed way before this era, because people have said there s no
way we re the only people in the billions of galaxies. There was no evidence or proof of aliens
being encountered with, but after Roswell s incident, it led to innumerable amounts of people
believing that aliens do exist.

It could lead to different shocking outcomes that only the government could imagine. But of
course why, will first if someone is very religious, they can say there is now way one planet in
billions of galaxies only have life, but the government keeps it secret for a very alarming reason.
The government does not want us to be scared or alarmed (THE UFO COVER UP). It s a very
protective reason for the world to not go into panic and havoc (The UFO COVER UP).Because
of the reasonings, this shows that aliens exist. For example. it s like hiding something that you
know you ve done wrong but can t hide. Giving new explanations and cover up proving it doesn t
exist when all these occurrences have already taken place. There s no way of hiding that the
government is just blinding the public from UFO s, making us worry about our own lives, and our
own self belief. (The UFO COVER UP).
In conclusion, Roswell s incident has been proven that a UFO has crashed near this area. From why
the military had covered up this situation so quickly, with all the new sightings, evidence proving
aliens have been encountered with at Roswell. Also with the government secrecy, Area 51 being so
secretive, military never giving out word about aliens from all the occurrences that have taken.
These all gives reason for people to believe that aliens do exist. Proving that this incident might

The Inter War Period
The inter war period (1918 1939) is characterized by conflicts among states, political rivalry and
economic instability in Europe. Economic competetion between different powers and the
depression leaded to the rise of extremist politicians moved to the Mussulini`s fascist Italy since
1920. Ten years later the European democracy fell; as a result, the power of Hitler in Nazi Germany
began to rise constantly. Italian fascismis considered to be the elder brother of Nazismwhat made
the relationship between Hitler and Mussolini complex and troublesome. These two political
leaders had in their policy as differences, as similarities. Both Hitler and Mussolini had
similarities in the way of ruling foreign and domestic policy; however, at the same time they had
differences in the level of their constitutional positions and the attitude to religion. The first
similarity of Hitler and Mussolini is their way of ruling foreign policy. In the Spanish Civil War
Germany and Italy joined the rebelians who were fighting against the left wing Republican. The
main reason for this was their unwillingness to see communist followers in Western Europe. After
the Spanish Civil War both Hitler and Mussolini became allies which efect the sharing similar
foreign policies. As a result of their alliance they started to support each other in expansionism. In
November of 1937 Italy left the League of Nations and joined the Anti Comintern Pact with Japan
and Germany, which would ultimately lead to the

Advantages Of Representative Democracy
Representative democracy is a modified version of our government now. It is a type of
democracy founded on the principle of elected officials representing a group of people, as
opposed to direct democracy. This is very similar to what goes on now because of the two parties
and the election. The Greeks came up with the representative government as a solution for the
direct democracy. The democratic democracy was a form of governmentwhere all eligible citizens
had to vote for every issue. It was very impractical because the minority would have no say in
this due to the fact that everyone is voting. With everyone voting this makes the cost go up and
corruption would still occur. This was a problem because imagine having to vote on every single
issue and in a country as big as the U.S. it certainly wouldn t work. This is why the representative
democracywas a better fit than the direct democracy.
Conservatism is an ideology of representative democracy. They believe in a lot of different things
such as personal responsibility, a limited government, free markets, individual liberty, traditional
American values, and a strong national defense. They also think the government s role should be
to provide people with freedom necessary for them to achieve their own goals. Conservative
policies generally want the individual to solve their own problems. A free market produces more
economic growth, more jobs, and higher standards of living than any other systems and excessive

American Indian Political Activism Essay
American Indian political activism played a tremendous role throughout history, which has laid the
foundation for how Indians are being treated with more respect in today s society. In 1961, about
the same time as the meeting in Chicago, the National Indian Youth Council (NIYC) was founded
(Hudson). The goal of the NIYC was to protest against civil disobedience and to bring awareness to
Indian heritage (Document of Indian Militancy, pg. 527). To promote the NIYC, young Indians
would speak at colleges, important national organization meetings and hearings of government
agencies (Document of Indian Militancy, pg. 527). This group of activists served as a new
generation that was proud of their heritage and not willing to accept being sucked... Show more

Many Indians resorted to alcohol, believing that a beer could solve their problems, He thought
one more beer could save the world. One more beer and every chair would be comfortable, one
more beer and the light bulb in the bathroom would never burn out (The Lone Ranger and Tonto
First Fight in Heaven, pg. 88). The goal of AIM was to help Indians get back on their feet and
become successful (Hudson). To achieve their goal of helping their fellow citizens, AIM would
help other Indians find jobs and get an education (Hudson). AIM simply wanted change for
urban Indians by helping in anyway possible (Hudson). In addition to helping other Native
Americans, AIM was also concerned with police abuse, specifically in Minneapolis (Hudson). In
1968, AIM created the Indian Patrol, which would watch ghettos and listen to police calls
(Hudson). If the Indian Patrol saw police being unjust, they would take pictures to serve as
evidence (Hudson). In 1969, AIM went to patrol Alcatraz Island (Hudson). The members along
side the NIYC were there to defend their culture (Hudson). Through all of their efforts and actions,
the outcome of AIM was quite successful. AIM was able to expand from being local to national,
which was a great source for many Native Americans. In 1944 the National Congress of American
Indians (NCAI) was established (Hudson). The

The Importance Of Eye Contact In Social Settings
locking eyes with the person asking the questions. Navarro (2009) points out that there is no
research to prove this myth and that it is more likely anxiety or nervousness that prevents the
person from looking directly at the person asking the question. Navarro (2009) also points out many
other subtleties that go with eyemovements such as rapid or slow blinking and what they mean.
Eye Contact in Social Settings
In his article about eye contact studies, also known as Oculesics, Anderson (2015) states that
studies conducted over many years by different researchers have come to a consensus about how
eye contact is perceived. Looking someone directly in the eye especially when you or they are
talking is considered polite because it shows attention is being given even if that isn t the case
inside the person s head. Sometimes eye contact can also be misleading. The example given in
the popular press proposal about the neighbor asking your help to move and you don t want to
but yet say yes, it is an example of misleading. A common myth however is that because a person
isn t directly looking at a person when they are talking, you are being rude and not listening.
However there is no research that can validate this myth. There are many people who actually
listen better when they are tinkering with an object and even looking away. The other social
aspect, especially in Asian cultures, is considered to be rude by showing little to no eye contact,
especially during a handshake.

In the story in the first book of the Unwind Dystology Unwind by Neal Shusterman, the character
Connor Lassiter perfectly represents the 12 stages of the hero s journey cycle. The Unwind

When Buffett made a decision in expanding into insurance, the insurance industry was a booming

competitors. Again this proves his market acumen and visionary ability which helped to see future

Talking About Home
If someone were to talk about a home , there could be many different things that would come to
mind. Home is defined as a house, apartment, or other shelter that is the usual residence of a
person, family, or household ( Home ). Depending on the person and the type of environment they
grew up in, you would most certainly get many different answers. In my opinion, home isn t just a
place that you live in, but a place of peace and acceptance, and a place that you share with your
family. A good, simple quote that represents this is home is where the heart is Pliny the Elder (
Home Quotes ). There are many aspects of a home that can all play a role on your very own
personal identity, like concrete things such as the building itself and the geographical location, to
even the more mental things such as the social environmentin your household. Everything that
makes up the environment of your home, plays a very big role in the way it shapes your life and
personal identity. I currently reside in my mom s house in Prescott, Wisconsin. She is the only
parent in my household because my parents divorced four years ago. When I was born, I lived in
Apple Valley, Minnesota. When I went into kindergarten, my family moved to Farmington,

many earlier film adaptations. They add a major element to the plot which is not part of most
conventional interpretations of the text. That is to portray Theseus a dictator and Athens a

Shaping American Cultures
Throughout the 1960s there was a cultural phenomenon that started in the United States and spread
like wildfire to multiple other cultures in the world. This phenomenon was also known as
countercultures. This decade raised the 76.4 million Americans born during the baby boom
generation. The babies of this boom entered their teen years during the 1960s and they definitely
embraced a multitude new standards, dramatically different from the way their parents were raised.
While some encompassed new ideals in dress, music and movies others joined countercultures and
rebelled against the social norms with poetry, novels and art. Three of the most altering
countercultures were the Hippies, the Sexual Revolution and the Gay Liberation.
These three countercultures emerged around the same time, but had prominently different agendas
and played huge roles in shaping the American culture. What effects did the Hippies, Sexual
Revolution and the Gay Liberation countercultures have on American society, why did they emerge
and what were their objectives?
One of the most distinctive countercultures of the very colorful decade of the 1960s were the
hippies. The hippie s counterculture developed during the 1960s in the Haight Ashbury district of
San Francisco. The hippies adopted the language and counterculture values from the Beats
Generation. Their distinct style (bell bottom pants, brightly colored shirts and long loose hair on
both men and women), their addictive use of LSD, and their

The Global Problem Of Global Trade Essay
There is no doubt that the importance of global trade is one of the most integral aspects out of
which human beings began their dominance of this planet. If history books tell us anything, it is
that the some of the most important and powerful countries had their beginnings in early global
trade. One of the most well known countries which took to the high seas in their venture to
dominate global trade is Portugal. Their story has been told and re told time and time again,
always positioning them as a leader during the Age of Discovery, a time in which finding the
fastest overseas trade routes for items such as spices lead to other discoveries as well. While
Portugal will always be able to reflect on past achievements and their footnote in the infancy of a
global network, they still find themselves situated as a participating member of a less glorious and
more ominous trade venture. Portugal s role in the global illegal trafficking of drugs and human
beings is a controversial and hot button issue on a multitude of socio political levels. While their
inclusion into this dark world is by no means voluntary, their participation in the illegal trafficking
trade is a symptom of what could arguably be considered one of their leading characteristics which
allowed them to dominant the Golden Era; geographic positionality. A recent document leaked from
a global intelligence firm in 2012 succinctly sums up their inherent problem:
Like a springboard, Portugal is used as a doorway to

The United States Effect on Puerto Rican Music Essay
The United States Effect on Puerto Rican Music The United States played an important role in the
evolution of Puerto Rican culture, more specifically music. While Puerto Rican culture remains
distinct from that of American culture, its historical progression is forever tied with that of the
United States. This is evident in the evolution of PuertoRican music. It is also evident in the
experience of Puerto Rican musiciansboth on the island and in the Diaspora. U.S rule was in part
responsible for Puerto Rican migrationboth within the island and off the island. This is so due to
the political and economic relationship between Puerto Rico and the United States. As a result new

As the island s regional populations transformed due to these migrations, older forms of music
declined, and new variations of music were created with new content and context. Other U.S.
influenced factors contributing to this situation were trade routes, and advances in transportation
and roadbuilding. These new variations of Puerto Rican music became part of Puerto Rican culture.
Yet, had it not been for United States interference in the lives of Puerto Ricans, these particular
musical forms never would have developed.
United States rule gave rise to municipal bands in Puerto Rico. Under U.S. colonialism, the
Catholic Church in Puerto Rico decreased in power. As a result, composers and musicians who
found work and publicity through church sponserings of their bands no longer had this as a option.
Regimental bands also disappeared under U.S. rule. Therefore, musicians and composers had to
form municipal bands as a means of displaying their talents, making a living on the island, and
training future generations of musicians.
The United States also made direct contributions to the music itself. U.S. soldiers brought with them
one steps, two steps, and rags. Local musicians made new musical works under the influence of
these models brought by the Americans, and sometimes combined them with older forms of music.
As time went on, the United States further dictated the terms under which music

too much already, even if there not as deserving or willing to work for it. Though the right to

Although you are entitled too, sexually fulfilling your happiness is not true happiness, it seems

Survival In Auschwitz Summary
The Holocaust was a genocide that occurred under Adolf Hitler s rule in Germany where almost

Survival in Auschwitz (to illustrate) the system inside the camp and his experience as a prisoner.
Capitalist modernity is the combination of capitalism and the ideas of modernity. In a capitalistic

In 1787, an English philosopher in the name of Jeremy Bentham came up with the idea of
panopticon. Panopticon is a set of societal practices that made people submissive in a society.
Panopticon is present in the concentration camps because the prisoners did not try to escape or
struggle against the SS. Levi states that this unjust law is openly in forces [and] is recognized
by all (88). There is a relationship between panopticon and the normality of the camp which is
unsaid but the prisoners are always aware of that mysterious faculty (63). Being inside the camp
is somewhat the same as being part of a capitalistic modernized society in a way that there are set
laws that the government expects people to follow. People are docile because they are aware that
if they are caught doing an act that goes against the law, they would have to deal with the state
apparatus. Similarly, the prisoners are aware that almost every move they make is monitored by an
SS or is bound to be noticed. Panopticon is another reason why there is normality in the

Family Life In Premarital Sex In Colonial America
Premarital sex did not exist in America, and young girls were likely to still be virginal upon
marriage and faithful afterwards, sadly that is just a traditional American myth. The reality is that
sexual activity before and outside marriage was a common practice, among the Puritans, in the
seventeenth century. Throughout the eighteenth century in America, 30 to 40 percent of brides
walked down the aisle pregnant. Premarital pregnancy was not just limited to the twentieth and
twenty first century. Today, families are not quite the same as what they use to be. They include a
more diverse environment than in the past and are more probable to be formed away from marriage.
Beginning with the familylife in colonial America, we examine the household structure between
the families and colonial communities, compared to the emergence of the modern family. We
apply our attention to the shift from agriculture based to industrial economy and the consequences
for family life that follow. The colonial society has a particular correlation among families, these
examples involve the family structure, married couples, and children. Looking at the families
through a micro level point of view provides a system to these examples, where the internal
workings of colonial period differed profoundly from those in our modern days. A vast majority of
Early America was associated with agriculture like farming, because it was mainly a rural territory.

Weapons Trafficking in Somalia Essay
Weapons trafficking in Somalia is a complex issue with global implications. Extremist
organizations, such as Al Shabaab, appear to be the primary beneficiary to the unrestricted flow of
weapons and use them to achieve their objectives. Furthermore, the availability of weapons,
particularly that of small arms, compromises regional stability and undermines United States
strategy. The purpose of this paper is to address the significance of the arms trafficking network in
Somalia by examining the culture in which it thrives, the motivation of Al Shabaab to obtain them,
the sources of illegal arms, and the United States point of view.

Somalis also have one of the lowest school enrollment rates in the world. Only 20% of primary
school age and 6% secondary school age Somalis are enrolled in school. These numbers contribute
to low literacy, about 37% in adults (TCC, 2011).
The impact
Somalia is a frightening case as all of the individual factors contributing to national instability are
cyclical and compounding. If an effective government is the main pillar supporting all aspects of
a country, then in Somalia, this pillar crumbled in 1991 and has yet to be rebuilt on asolid
foundation. Somali National Security Forces (SNSF) and police forces are ineffective at enforcing
law and providing security at the borders and for the people. According to a United Nations
Security Council (UNSC) report, the SNSF target innocent Somalis through extortion during their
operations (UNSC, 2013). In result, Somalia is incapable of attacking the humanitarian catastrophe
from within. Somalis survival of the fittest philosophy and lack of education further separates
people from the government.
Somali options
If culture is adaptive behavior in response to their environment, outside in analysis suggests that
Somalis have four viable options of self preservation. The first option is to leave Somalia. This is a
popular choice among many Somalis as the number of refugees fleeing into neighboring countries
rises exponentially each year. The second

Ella Wheeler Wilcox s Poem Solitude
Ella Wheeler Wilcox creates and displays a realistic tone in her poem Solitude through her usage
of diction, imagery, and details. To begin, the author uses specific diction to express a realistic
tone in her piece. Ella Wheeler Wilcox shows real life wisdom with a strong usage of polar
opposite words in order to deeply express the conflicting paths taken in life. She states, ...full
measure of all your pleasure...not need your woe. Pleasure and woe are used as polar opposites,
which shows how negatives introduce new negatives; likewise, when one is positive, new
positives are further reinforced. The word woe is used as a stronger word than the fundamental
phrase sad ness to describe the sorrow and contagious pain one may carry onto another. The writer
also decides to include long and lordly train... to describe life. Train is an incredible word describing
the length and amazing journey that is life, that happiness may still shine through in a tough life. A

positives, to enjoy the time with others. The creator of the passage writes using imagery and

Ever thought you d see car parts transformed into jewellery? Or clothing? Shoes? Eye wear? Well
that s exactly what the Lexus Fashion Workshop did.
The Lexus CT Hybrid is a gorgeous, sleek car. Which is also 90% recyclable, so Lexus decided to
dismantle a Lexus CT Hybrid and bring in four fashion designers, and see how they would use
pieces of the car, and up cycle them into amazing bits of work.
Fashion designer John Patrick, used floor mats made from plant based plastic, sustainable sound

Argumentative Essay On Kennewick Man
The historic discovery of Kennewick Man in Kennewick, Washington, caused a great deal of
controversy on whether to use the skull for scientific purposes or to simply return him back to the
local tribes for reburial. At first, when Kennewick Man was first discovered in 1996, scientific
testing failed to determine the specific tribe that the man belonged to. In spite of the argument one
could make that it was unethical to keep the skull since it has to belong to one of the Native
American tribes, until a specific tribe was discovered as Kennewick Mans ancestors, I feel as if it
was perfectly liable to keep the skull for scientific use. However, Kennewick Man eventually was
determined to be affiliated with the Colville tribe, therefore at... Show more content on

By having requirements to return archaeological findings back to their native tribes entirely,
archaeologists are limited in their discoveries and possibly their job. An archaeological
discovery is meaningless if it never experiences any practical investigation on whether its
characteristics benefit society. For this reason, archaeologists should own the right to keep
critically important parts of Kennewick Man s skull such as his teeth, but return the rest of the
skull to the Colville tribe and find an equal compromise. DNA testing should be the first step in
deriving information from an archaeological discovery such as a skull, but NAGPRA should give
archaeologists the right to keep the most important parts of discoveries for scientific use and then
return the remaining parts to the native tribe. In the long run, scientific progress is prevented
whenever conflicts emerge over the ownership of archaeological discoveries, therefore Native
American tribes should have the courtesy to allow archaeologists to use only specific parts of a
specimen and have the remaining parts returned to them if DNA testing comes back positive in
relation to their

Conflict Between Men And Women
Conflict between men and women
Trifles is a short story that Susan Glaspell wrote about between men and women. It s specifically
targeting the way men attitudes were towards women. Trifles talks about a murder that is unsolved,
a country woman suspected of killing her husband in an isolated farm. Men in this short story worry
more about looking for big evidence and judging about Mrs. Wright s messy kitchen instead of
looking in her stuff for evidence. The men think that in the kitchen there is nothing important.
Instead they go to the barn and to the bedroom to find evidence. Meanwhile the women find a
dead bird with a broken neck that could mean why she killed Mr. Wright. At the end the women
decide to hide the evidence. That is because they think she had her own reasons to kill him because
Mr. Wright could have killed the bird and that it was important to Mrs. Wright. In Trifles there is a
conflict between the masculine attitudes towards women.
Men in Trifles are judgmental when they see Mrs. Wright s messy kitchen. They think that Mrs.
Wright should have cleaned up the kitchen before she left. The County Attorney thinks that a woman
s place is in the kitchen and that she should have everything cleaned up. When the County
Attorney is looking around the kitchen he opens the door of a closet and looks on the top shelf.
Then he pulls his hand away sticky and says, Here s a nice mess (1388), criticizing Mrs. Wright s
kitchen. He pulls out a roll of towels

Paulo Freire s The Banking Concept of Education Essay...
Paulo Freire s The Banking Concept of Education
In his essay The Banking Concept of Education , Paulo Freire condemns the current beliefs about
education, and argues strongly to support his own, new, and somewhat radical ideas about how he
believes education should work. It is clear from his writing that he wishes to convey very strong
feelings in this essay. At the very beginning, after a very brief description of the current education,
he states that education is suffering from narration sickness (212), and later continues to say that in
our current system [words] become a hollow, alienated, and alienating verbosity (212). These
statements, especially at the very beginning of the author s analysis, convey an amount of ... Show

He accomplishes this with much fanfare, denouncing the banking concept as much as possible to
gain advantage in the readers minds with his new revolutionary concepts.
Only in the end of his essay does Freire focus more on his own system, and explain its privileges
without resorting to the faults of the currents system, but even then he uses the latter tactic several
times. The essay ends on a political note, calling the new revolutionaries to realize what the name
they call themselves means, and to change the current ways not only on the outside, as they have
done before, but also internally to make radical changes to their philosophy and their ideas about
education. This concluding device stirs up some doubts as to the point of the whole essay. It might
seem from the author s concluding point that the underlying purpose of the essay was not to
expand on the more beneficial ways of education, but to criticize the ways of political leaders in
his, or some other country. Nevertheless, the rest of the essay shows little evidence of such a plot,
and this point is at best marginal.
One of the passages that is impressive in its ability to appeal to the reader uses a few unique
techniques. Some are the introduction of new concepts where the teacher of the students and the
students of the teacher cease to exist and a new term emerges: teacher students with students
teacher (218). Here the author uses new words that he invented himself to

Recycle Bin
пѓ A short note on Recycle bin.
Recycle bin is an icon on the Windows desktop that represents a directory where deleted files are
temporarily stored. This enables you to retrieve files that you may have accidentally deleted.
From time to time, you ll want to purge the recycle bin to free up space on your hard disk. You
can also configure Windows so that it doesn t use the recycle bin at all, but then you won t be able
to retrieve accidentally deleted files.
Items in the Recycle Bin remain there until you decide to permanently delete them from your
computer. These items still take up hard disk space and can be undeleted or restored back to their
original location. When it fills up, Windows automatically cleans out enough space in the ... Show

The Recycle Bin can be accessed via the desktop (In fact it is the only icon shown by default on
the Windows XP desktop) or Windows Explorer. The Recycle Bin, when accessed from the
desktop, has different options and information than what Windows Explorer normally would have
as seen from the physical location. In an NTFS environment, users cannot see deleted files in the
Recycle Bin of other user.
Files in the Recycle Bin are stored in its physical location and renamed as D.. A hidden file
called info2 (info in Windows 95) stores the files original paths and names. When the user views
the Recycle Bin, the files are displayed with their original names. When the file is Restored from
the Recycle Bin, it is returned to its original directory and name.
When the file is deleted by emptying the Recycle Bin, the space on the disk used by the file is
designated as free without any changes being made to the file data itself. Future files will
overwrite the data when they are saved on the disk. In other words, the data is not erased, but the
address marking the data s existence is.
Deleting files
In Windows Explorer, files are moved to the Recycle Bin in a number of ways:
By right clicking on a file and selecting delete from the menu
Selecting the file and pressing the delete key
Selecting delete from the side menu in Windows XP

Symbolism In The Dust Bowl
An example of symbolism in The Dust Bowl is in the poem On The Road With Arley when
Billy Joe Said And every little crowd is grateful to hear a rag or two played on the piano by a
long legged, red haired girl, even when the piano has a few keys soured by dust. This is
symbolic for the struggle that the family has to deal with because of the drought, dust storms,
and their way of life. In this poem, when Billy Joe says At first Ma crossed her arms against her
chest and stared me down, hard jawed and sharp, and said I couldn t go. is an example of
imagery. This shows imagery because the reader can imagine Ma staring down at Billy Joe with
anger and sternness. This lets the reader know that the mom is annoyed and mad at Billie Joe for

Anne Paine Interview Paper
For my Interview I interviewed Anne Paine. She is a County Court Judge for the 11th Judicial
district. The counties that she mostly covers are Red willow, Furnas, Hitchcock, Hays county. She
travels anywhere they need her too. Her main office is located in McCook, Nebraska. Paine, didn t
really want to be a judgeat first. She used to be a lawyer and had done that for 19 years. One day
she got a call and it was someone telling her that a judge position had become open and they
though she would be good at it so they wanted her to apply for the job. Anne said she had never
really had any interest in being a judge but her husband had told her that her father who had
passed away had always told him that he wanted Anne to be a judge. She then decided to sit
down and write the pros and cons of the job and the finally applied for the job. One of the top
reasons she decided to be a judge was because she wanted to be able to help kids get to better
places. She has now been a judge for 10 years. Paine, had went to law school and explained that
to be in law school you had to have an undergraduate degree in something. Hers was English, she
had once wanted to be an English teacher. She attended law school for 3 years and had said that it

she gave me enough information to write a lot. I really enjoyed this interview and writing the

Honor In The Iliad
In Ancient Greece honor was important. In the Iliad it says Now be men, my friends! Courage,
come, take heart! Dread what comrades say of you here in bloody combat! When men dread
that, more men come through alive When soldiers break and run, good bye glory, good bye all
defenses! The only way Greeks believe they could earn honor was by fighting. Although fighting
for an important cause does bring honor it is not the only way humans earn honor. One way
people can receive honor comes from age. Honoring elders is a command gave us. In the book in
the Bible Leviticus is written, Stand up in the presence of the elderly, and show respect for the
aged. In this verse we are told to respect and honor elderly people. Humans in the Bible are

Growing Up For My Life
Growing up for me wasn t always easy, I mean I ve never been one to complain but I can also
face the reality of knowing I ve had many struggles throughout my life. From the beginning,
when I was two years old my dad walked out on my mother, my sister, and me. When I was
younger I never knew the reason why and I thought it was normal to not have a dad since I never
really had one. In reality, my mom had to go through struggle to support my sister and I but, we
never really knew everything she did until we were old enough to realize it. When Christmas
came around every year we just figured Santa left us all these great gifts when in reality my mom
had to work hard to pay all the bills and keep us happy.
I could see you coming home after work late, you re in the kitchen trying to fix us a hot plate .
Tupac Dear Mama I was always a top priority to my mom and my happiness was what made her
happy. No matter how hard of a day she had or any other problems she would always put them to
the side to make sure we were taken care of. As I started getting a little older I used to ask myself
how my mom did it. I would think how does she wait with me in the morning for the school bus,
go to work, pick me up from daycare, help me with my homework, have dinner cooked every night,
take me to any doctor s appointment I had, take my sister to cheerleading practice and manage to
get me ready for football practice at the same time, take us home to get ready for bed just to do it

General Contribution Of The Core Knowledge From Overall...
Question 1 This question relates to the general contribution of the core knowledge from this unit to
overall managerial effectiveness.
a) Outline how the core concepts in this unit relate to the overall effectiveness of managers, leaders
and their organisations. (10 marks 300 words)
The core concepts of the unit will enable executive staff to make better informed business decisions.
Using concepts learned from the unit, theory as learned, can be applied to business situations and
enables them to review situations in a nonlinear view. As quoted in the study guide To answer such
questions using an economics looking glass we first have to define what economics is. Economics
is a way of thinking. (Walker Murphy 2013).
Traditionally, workers in siloed organisations, may concentrate and look at problems within the
business relevant to their specific requirements, however, from an economic decision making
point of view we can make a more informed decision. eg. An IT Executive may look at technology
to solve a specific business problem, however an executive may apply economic concepts to
provide an overall picture on the solution this may include but would not be limited to;
Supply Demand Theory eg. The executive might need to budget and resource for labour. We might
need to consider the relation between the two (that is supply and demand) and provide some
mechanisms to forecast demand (such as regression).
Production Theory the executive might need to

Pan s Labyrinth Themes
Maybe Magic, Maybe Mundane A child s imagination is the most powerful weapon he or she can
be armed with and it is within Guillermo Del Toro s captivating and Academy Award winning
film, Pan s Labyrinth that we are presented with this concept as well as themes of existentialism
and duality. Various motifs such as; brutality, innocence, childhood and war, allow Del Toro to
construct two worlds that are all too real and very similar for one young girl. Set in Spain 1944
during a time when people are forced to choose between their beliefs and their survival, Ofelia
(Ivana Baquero) is compelled to choose her faith in fantasies over her hope in humanity. Ofelia is
in a battle of good vs. evil vs. innocence and must realize that all three cannot thrive. The opening

intentionally so that Ofelia s character could be judged properly. It is much harder to say no
when temptation presents itself in a beautiful form. Ofelia s good nature and pure heart would
be revealed in this moment and this was something del Toro wanted to exemplify. Ending a film
with a child dying is disturbing however; del Toro chooses to make her death about redemption
since she regained her innocence through death (i.e. rebirth). Ofelia would be born again and
assume her role as Princess of the fantasy realm she desperately desired to be apart of. The final
shot of Ofelia mirrors the opening shot of the film but this time, blood drips down and out of her

  • 2. Why Is Power Important In The Great Gatsby Money, success and power are determining factors in every major decision. The Great Gatsby shows how that is relevant throughout the story. The majority of the book is focused around trying to achieve the ultimate goal of success. Success shaped how characters developed and how each of them take money, power and success relevant in every decision made. Throughout my paper I will write about how money, power and success are key in this story. Topic 1: They want to become successful. Everyone wants to be successful. They strive to achieve unrealistic expectations. If everyone makes 6 figures, then the dollar bill would become deluded. Inflation would be at a high. Not everyone can be like Jay Gatsby. Topic 2: Daisy chooses Money over Love Many prefer love or money. Some prefer money over love. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... They could afford expensive houses and able to throw parties regularly. The people who didn t live a lavish lifestyle were still attending the parties. The parties were amazing. Topic 5: Maintaining your image Characters like Jay Gatsby and Daisy had an image to maintain. People looked at them as if they were special. They were noticed. Not everyone can be noticed though. Nick Carraway was often in the background of these prolific characters. Topic 6: Energy I can t imagine how much energy it takes to be as renowned and famous as Jay Gatsby. He is probably pestered most days. Measly matters and issues have consumed his life. This is quite sad. Especially when he is unable to change how people look at him Topic 7: Pressure While being rich and famous sounds fun, it would come with much responsibility. People would expect you to present yourself a certain way. You would also be expected to participate in certain customs and social gatherings. The expectations placed upon someone of high wealth is quite fascinating. I believe those expectations will never change ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Spirited Away Shintoism In the film, Spirited Away, there were many references displayed in regards to the Japanese culture of Shintoism. A major aspect of Shintoism is the belief in the kami (divine beings). They also include spirits that embody natural forces like wind and fire, animals, or an aspect of admiring landscape, such as mountains or waterfalls. Even regular human beings can ultimately be revered as kamiafter death as long as they lived a pure life. In Spirited Away, purity is one of the main themes prevalent throughout the film. When the characters in the film resort themselves to greed, they are punished with dire consequences. For example, Chihiro s parents were starving when they arrived to the abandoned theme park and smelled an aroma of delicious... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In fact, once Chihiro is in the strange world, Haku warns her to not make a noise so no one would find out that she s a human. Once revealed that she is human, people are startled and start to cause a riot (17:30). The audience doesn t know what s going on or what to think of the spirits. Are they good or evil? For instance, Zeniba and Yubaba are twin sisters, yet they contrast so much in evil and good. Zeniba is good, while Yubaba is bad. Nonetheless, they do not stick to one personality as the mean Yubaba shows love and affection towards her child, and the good Zeniba curses Haku. This causes confusion in the audience and leaves them questioning who s good and who s evil. Also, No Face and the River spirit were both not good spirits in the beginning, but lo and behold, they turned out to be good at the end under their facade. Spirited Away leaves both good and evil spirits to coexist, as they create harmony and advocate peace. Another key point, Yubaba stripped away Chihiro s true name, including Haku s, upon gaining employment at the bathhouse. In order for Chihiro to recover continuity with her past, she must create a new identity. Throughout her spiritual journey, Chihiro has overcome her problems and the problems of others. At the end of the movie, when her parents mention that the big move must be scary for her, Chihiro ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. A Report Analyzing The Viability Of The Nuclear Fusion Dear Upper Hutt City Council Today I am writing you a report analysing the viability of the use of Nuclear Fusion as a energy source in your community. I will analyse the feasibility of this kind of nuclear power in your community by firstly explaining what nuclear fusion is and how it works. I will then use calculations to estimate how this new energy produced could compare to the amount of energy used by the city currently. Nuclear Fusion occurs when two small nuclei fuse to form a larger nucleus (this is not to be confused with fission). A large amount of energy is released, which can be explained simply enough by the binding energy per nucleon. The nucleons in extremely small nuclei have more energy than those in slightly larger nuclei. Because these nucleons have more energy, they have less binding energy per nucleon (because the same total binding energy must be split evenly, therefore more energy=less binding energy to go around). Because of this, when the reaction of two smaller nuclei fusing takes place, the nucleons must have to lose energy. The subsequent energy that they lose is the energy that is released. For all of this to happen, a fusion reaction requires utterly immense temperature of millions of degrees celcius, just in order to force the nuclei to move fast enough to fuse and stick. The Prime example of Nuclear Fusion is the sun. It is obvious that atoms do not rest: the hotter they get, the quicker they move. Temperatures reach 15,000,000В° C in the ... • 5. Abigail Adams Letter Analysis Abigail Adams, in her letter, introduces advice and caution to her son, John Quincy Adams while he is on a trip to France with his father. Adams purpose is to allow her son to know what she expects of him on his trip in France. She adopts an authoritative tone in order to show her son that she knows what s best for him, and to make sure he experiences some feelings of fear, so he will obey her wishes. In her letter, Abigail Adamsuses different types of rhetorical strategies to help get her thoughts across. Abigail begins her letter by doing what any mother would do if her son was on a trip without her, expresses hope that the trip was safe. Starting in paragraph two, she moves into building an authoritative appeal by reminding her son she was the one who sent him on this trip, due to the fact he is not capable of making wise decisions himself. Following this, she tried to make him aware of the fact that he ВЁsubmitted to [her] adviceВЁ and he should not ВЁgive [her] reason to lament itВЁ (Paragraph 2). This allows Abigail to show her authority over her son, John QuincyAdams, and show him what she expects of him. Later in the letter she brings to his attention the idea that he needs to acquire the French language. He is in France, therefore he can learn the language, which could help him later in his life by being more diverse. When bringing up the idea of him learning French, she is trying to make him feel some guilt. If she sent him to France and he does not pick up the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. Case Study Lego The Lego Case Study In 2014, LEGO announced record results. In the financial year 2013, the company revenues had increased by 10% to 25.4 billion DKK (Annual Report). Profits before tax were 8.2 billion DKK representing a net income of 24% while operating margins were at a staggering 32.8% (Annual Report). However, the company s future had not always looked so promising. When Jorgen Vig Knudstrop stepped in as CEO in 2003, he described the then financial state of the company as a burning platform which generated negative cash flows that would lead to its eventual collapse (Ashcroft 3). Sadly, his portrayal was not that far from the truth. Throughout the early 2000s, the company was facing losses of ~1 billion DKK yearly and was falling behind it competitors, Mattel and Hasboro (Annual Report). So how did LEGO turn itself around in a short span of 8 years? ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... LEGO, the company has always been known by kids and parents alike for its colorful building bricks however between 1997 and 2004, LEGO stretched its product lines to include movies, clothing, video gaming and event theme parks. Unfortunately, these activities generated limited returns and were capital intensive as a result, LEGO s bottom line plummeted. LEGO strayed too far from its core business of manufacturing building blocks and ventured in industries which it no knowledge or specific skills sets to compete in ( Fun and Games: The LEGO Success Story 2). Also, a lack of financial and product profitability analysis meant that management had no idea which products were making money and which were not producing adequate returns on investment. Another problem was that retailers were constantly overstocked with products which offered diminishing margins as clearance offers ensued (Ashcroft 14). This was due to a lack of ... • 7. The Glies In Lord Of The Flies By William Golding TCA 1 To start off, Golding s purpose is shaped through theme. His purpose is to show people are evil. According to the passage it says, She was black and pink; and the great bladder of her belly was fringed with a row of piglets that slept or burrowed and squeaked (Golding 1). This statement shows that all of the British boys, except Simon, attacks a mother pigwho runs in the clearing. Simon watches all of the boys literally killing the mother pig. This is the climactic part of the novel because the boys completely lost their innocence. In doing so, the boys find pleasure and it represents no civilizationleft. The slaughter of innocence shows that the boys can not go back to civilization. Another example from the passagestates that, Then Jack found the throat and the hot blood spouted over his hands. The sow collapsed under them and they were heavy and fulfilled upon her. The butterflies still danced, preoccupied in the center of the clearing (Golding 12). This sentence shows that all the boys turn into savages and that Jack, the boy that adores hunting and killing just for the fun of it, influences the boys into enjoying rubbing the blood all over their bodies. The boys kill the mother pig and simultaneously cheer and laugh. All in all, symbolically, when the boys put the pig s head on a stick, it represents the darkness and evil within all humanity. The human s actions about savagery v.s. the order of human civilization. Adding on, Golding s purpose of showing ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The Luteal Stage Of The Monthly Cycle Of Progesterone Progesterone e is a hormone which stimulates and controls a number of functions such as, maintaining a pregnancy and regulating the monthly cycle. It is produced in the ovaries, the placenta (if a woman conceives) and the adrenal glands. After ovulation, the corpus luteum (it s an empty follicle which is left after the egg is released) releases progesterone, which acts on the uterus lining causing it to thicken in preparation for pregnancy. This phase is termed as the luteal phase of the monthly cycle. If fertilization and implantation occur, the corpus luteum continues with its role of progesterone production to sustain the pregnancy until the placenta has fully developed to take over progesterone production. Evaluation Of A State Physical Activity Plan Project Title: Implementation of a state physical activity plan: Realist evaluation of policy implementation and the need to know what works (and what doesn t) Problem Statement While research on physical activity promotion has historically been on the impact of individual level behavioral interventions, there has been substantial progress in identifying the role of policymaking in creating population wide improvements (Brownson et al., 2007; Frank Kavage, 2009; Humpel, Owen, Leslie, 2002). As a result of the increasing evidence of modifying the built environment through policy interventions (Kahn et al., 2002), the Center of Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), National Institutes of Health (NIH), and Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) recommend these as a means of increasing physical activity in communities. Nevertheless, little is known about how to quantify levels of policy implementation related to physical activity in order to understand and appropriately interpret policy outcomes at the state and local levels (Ogilvie et al., 2010; Sallis, Story, Lou, 2009). A process evaluation of the implementation of a state level physical activity plan is proposed to improve our understanding of the mechanisms of policy implementation using a realist evaluation method. Analytic Framework The need for evidence related to policy influences regarding physical activity are increasing in importance as government, communities, and health professionals ... Economic competetion between different powers and the depression leaded to the rise of extremist politicians moved to the Mussulini`s fascist Italy since 1920. The first similarity of Hitler and Mussolini is their way of ruling foreign policy. In the Spanish Civil War Germany and Italy joined the rebelians who were fighting against the left wing Republican. The main reason for this was their unwillingness to see communist followers in Western Europe. After the Spanish Civil War both Hitler and Mussolini became allies which efect the sharing similar foreign policies. As a result of their alliance they started to support each other in expansionism. • 25. Advantages Of Representative Democracy Representative democracy is a modified version of our government now. It is a type of democracy founded on the principle of elected officials representing a group of people, as opposed to direct democracy. This is very similar to what goes on now because of the two parties and the election. The Greeks came up with the representative government as a solution for the direct democracy. The democratic democracy was a form of governmentwhere all eligible citizens had to vote for every issue. It was very impractical because the minority would have no say in this due to the fact that everyone is voting. With everyone voting this makes the cost go up and corruption would still occur. This was a problem because imagine having to vote on every single issue and in a country as big as the U.S. it certainly wouldn t work. This is why the representative democracywas a better fit than the direct democracy. Conservatism is an ideology of representative democracy. They believe in a lot of different things such as personal responsibility, a limited government, free markets, individual liberty, traditional American values, and a strong national defense. They also think the government s role should be to provide people with freedom necessary for them to achieve their own goals. Navarro (2009) points out that there is no research to prove this myth and that it is more likely anxiety or nervousness that prevents the person from looking directly at the person asking the question. Navarro (2009) also points out many other subtleties that go with eyemovements such as rapid or slow blinking and what they mean. Eye Contact in Social Settings In his article about eye contact studies, also known as Oculesics, Anderson (2015) states that studies conducted over many years by different researchers have come to a consensus about how eye contact is perceived. Looking someone directly in the eye especially when you or they are talking is considered polite because it shows attention is being given even if that isn t the case inside the person s head. Sometimes eye contact can also be misleading. The example given in the popular press proposal about the neighbor asking your help to move and you don t want to but yet say yes, it is an example of misleading. A common myth however is that because a person isn t directly looking at a person when they are talking, you are being rude and not listening. However there is no research that can validate this myth. There are many people who actually listen better when they are tinkering with an object and even looking away. The other social aspect, especially in Asian cultures, is considered to be rude by showing little to no eye contact, especially during a handshake. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

One of the most well known countries which took to the high seas in their venture to dominate global trade is Portugal. As a result, composers and musicians who found work and publicity through church sponserings of their bands no longer had this as a option. Regimental bands also disappeared under U.S. rule. Therefore, musicians and composers had to form municipal bands as a means of displaying their talents, making a living on the island, and training future generations of musicians. The United States also made direct contributions to the music itself. U.S. soldiers brought with them one steps, two steps, and rags. Local musicians made new musical works under the influence of these models brought by the Americans, and sometimes combined them with older forms of music. As time went on, the United States further dictated the terms under which music ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 37. Essay on Review We Have No Right to Happiness Review on We have No Right to Happiness By: C.S. Lewis In class we read three different essays including The Dying family by J.H. Though the purpose of these essays can be very controversial to some, after reviewing all three essays I have picked my favorite, or the one I agree with and disagree with most. We have no Right to Happiness makes a very good argument on the point the author is trying to make. I believe government already helps out people too much already, even if there not as deserving or willing to work for it. Though the right to happiness is chiefly claimed for the sexual impulse, it seems to me impossible that the matter should stay there Lewis said. Sexual happiness is on a whole different aspect. It s probably not in your best interest to act on every sexual related impulse you have to make you happy. Although you are entitled too, sexually fulfilling your happiness is not true happiness, it seems to be very superficial. In this case, leaving your wife to marry another isn t ideal, on the other hand to some it would be. Primo Levi, a survivor of the Holocaust wrote the book Survival in Auschwitz (to illustrate) the system inside the camp and his experience as a prisoner. Capitalist modernity is the combination of capitalism and the ideas of modernity. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In 1787, an English philosopher in the name of Jeremy Bentham came up with the idea of panopticon. Panopticon is a set of societal practices that made people submissive in a society. Panopticon is present in the concentration camps because the prisoners did not try to escape or struggle against the SS. Levi states that this unjust law is openly in forces [and] is recognized by all (88). There is a relationship between panopticon and the normality of the camp which is unsaid but the prisoners are always aware of that mysterious faculty (63). Being inside the camp is somewhat the same as being part of a capitalistic modernized society in a way that there are set laws that the government expects people to follow. People are docile because they are aware that if they are caught doing an act that goes against the law, they would have to deal with the state apparatus. Similarly, the prisoners are aware that almost every move they make is monitored by an SS or is bound to be noticed. Panopticon is another reason why there is normality in the ... Family Life In Premarital Sex In Colonial America Premarital sex did not exist in America, and young girls were likely to still be virginal upon marriage and faithful afterwards, sadly that is just a traditional American myth. The reality is that sexual activity before and outside marriage was a common practice, among the Puritans, in the seventeenth century. Throughout the eighteenth century in America, 30 to 40 percent of brides walked down the aisle pregnant. Premarital pregnancy was not just limited to the twentieth and twenty first century. Today, families are not quite the same as what they use to be. They include a more diverse environment than in the past and are more probable to be formed away from marriage. Beginning with the familylife in colonial America, we examine the household structure between the families and colonial communities, compared to the emergence of the modern family. We apply our attention to the shift from agriculture based to industrial economy and the consequences for family life that follow. The colonial society has a particular correlation among families, these examples involve the family structure, married couples, and children. Looking at the families through a micro level point of view provides a system to these examples, where the internal workings of colonial period differed profoundly from those in our modern days. • 44. Conflict Between Men And Women Conflict between men and women Trifles is a short story that Susan Glaspell wrote about between men and women. It s specifically targeting the way men attitudes were towards women. Trifles talks about a murder that is unsolved, a country woman suspected of killing her husband in an isolated farm. Men in this short story worry more about looking for big evidence and judging about Mrs. Wright s messy kitchen instead of looking in her stuff for evidence. The men think that in the kitchen there is nothing important. Instead they go to the barn and to the bedroom to find evidence. Meanwhile the women find a dead bird with a broken neck that could mean why she killed Mr. Wright. At the end the women decide to hide the evidence. That is because they think she had her own reasons to kill him because Mr. Wright could have killed the bird and that it was important to Mrs. Wright. In Trifles there is a conflict between the masculine attitudes towards women. Men in Trifles are judgmental when they see Mrs. Wright s messy kitchen. They think that Mrs. Wright should have cleaned up the kitchen before she left. The County Attorney thinks that a woman s place is in the kitchen and that she should have everything cleaned up. When the County Attorney is looking around the kitchen he opens the door of a closet and looks on the top shelf. At the very beginning, after a very brief description of the current education, he states that education is suffering from narration sickness (212), and later continues to say that in our current system [words] become a hollow, alienated, and alienating verbosity (212). He accomplishes this with much fanfare, denouncing the banking concept as much as possible to gain advantage in the readers minds with his new revolutionary concepts. Only in the end of his essay does Freire focus more on his own system, and explain its privileges without resorting to the faults of the currents system, but even then he uses the latter tactic several times. The essay ends on a political note, calling the new revolutionaries to realize what the name they call themselves means, and to change the current ways not only on the outside, as they have done before, but also internally to make radical changes to their philosophy and their ideas about education. This concluding device stirs up some doubts as to the point of the whole essay. It might seem from the author s concluding point that the underlying purpose of the essay was not to expand on the more beneficial ways of education, but to criticize the ways of political leaders in his, or some other country. Nevertheless, the rest of the essay shows little evidence of such a plot, and this point is at best marginal. One of the passages that is impressive in its ability to appeal to the reader uses a few unique techniques.
