The Problem Of Social Anxiety
Through perseverance, dedication, and patience, isolated people can immediately change
transform themselves to fearless people who have no difficulty whatsoever with communicating.
This has been proven throughout the ages and in my family as well. Whether you are the extreme
loner at your school, or a jobless person willing to sacrifice anything to receive a job, you can
become intrepid conquering your isolation issues. In my family, my mother used to be extremely
shy among others when she was in high school. She had a few friends, and, in addition to that, had
some case of social anxiety. Often ignored by others, she refused to give up. Throughout time, she
improved immensely and now has a multitudinous amount of friends. Also, she currently has no
social anxiety due to her conquering her fears of social rejection. My mother now owns a
successful business as a result of this beneficial change. You can always change no matter what. All
you need to do is act efficiently and face your fears. You can help face your fears by taking
extracurricular activities such as band, choir, academic teams, volunteering, etc. Even Albert
Einstein played an instrument, the violin, while conducting his research on the relationship
between energy and mass. By having extracurricular activities, you can easily communicate with
others as extracurricular activities mostly require you to communicate in order to help others.
Most of the time, people in extracurricular activities all target a

Allusion In The Starry Night
Being inspired by Vincent Van Gogh s illustrious painting Starry Night, Anne Sexton uses imagery,
metaphor, and allusion to write the poem The Starry Night which indicates her not only shares the
mental issue and suicide propensity with Vincent but also the deep desire for religion. Anne Sexton,
a great female poet, is diagnosed with depression and gets hard mental hit due to the death of her
aunt; thus, she attempts to suicide many times. Same as Vincent Van Gogh
, Anne also expresses her
feeling toward life and death in scene to release her gloominess. In her poem The Starry Night, she
fully develops her inner thoughts on alienation and loneliness. First of all, Anne uses metaphor to
describe the painting, pointing out her unique reflection to the painting and the mental creativity.
Starring at the dynamic brushstroke of the painting, Anne focuses on the violent style and the color
and represents these in her poem; she compares the swirling and massive clouds to the rushing
beast of the night . In her maverick thoughts, the rushing beast is a great dragon which she wants to
die/... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In her poem, Anne mentions a lot of natural objects; the eleven stars is especially important to
the theme of the poetry. The number eleven has a negative meaning in religion: as it recorded in
Bible, eleven represents disorder, chaos, and sin. Indeed, Anne s depression can cause her
mental disorder and chaos; likewise, her propensity to suicide can be seen as sin. Also, she
wants to die no flag/ no belly/ no cry : no flag indicates that she wants to die without showing
surrender and die in nameless; no belly means that she wants to die painlessly, because she gets the
postpartum depression she abandons her belly (the womb) in order to keep away from pain; no cry
just implies she wants to die without tears and

Alliteration In Leda And The Swan By Ray Bradbury
Alliteration: The repetition of identical consonant sounds in the stressed syllables of words
relatively near to each other (in the same line or adjacent lines, usually) (Literature: A Portable
Anthology).
Example: In Fahrenheit 451, Montag states, It s fine work. Monday burn Millay, Wednesday
Whitman, Friday Faulkner, burn em to ashes. That s our official slogan. The repetition sound of M,
W, and F, show alliteration(Bradbury 6).
Allusion: A reference to a well known person, place, place, event, literary work, or work of art
(Literary Devices).
Example: On page fifty seven of Fahrenheit 451, Beatty says, Colored people don t like Little
Black Sambo. Burn it. White people don t feel good about Uncle Tom s Cabin. Burn it. The... Show

Example: The poem Leda and the Swan by William Yeats states, Above the staggering girl, her
thighs caressed By the dark webs, her nape caught in his bill, He holds her helpless breast upon his
breast. The human behaviors such as holds and caressed that are given to describe the swan
displays anthropomorphism (Yeats 500).
Aphorism: a statement of truth or opinion expressed in a concise and witty manner (Literary
Devices).
Example: In act one of The Importance of Being Earnest Algernon states, I don t play accurately
any one can play accurately but I play with wonderful expression. Algernon s witty statement
declaring that he plays with wonderful expression displays an aphorism (Wilde 889).
Apostrophe: is a term used when a speaker directly addresses someone or something that isn t
present in the poem (Literary Devices).
Example: In Sonnet 18 by William Shakespeare the first line states, Shall I compare thee to a
summer s day? The person thee that Shakespeare is referring to is never present in the poem,
therefore the women he is talking about represents an apostrophe because she is never present in
poem (Shakespeare 426).
Assonance: is the repetition of a vowel sound or diphthong in non rhyming words (Literary
Devices).
Example: The first line of Robert Frost s poem The Road Not Taken states, Two roads

Scouts Journey to Womanhood Essay
As girls grow in life, they mature and change into women. In the novel To Kill a Mockingbird, by
Harper Lee, Scout, the main character, begins to mature into a woman. In the beginning of the
book, she is a tomboy who cannot wait to pick a fistfight with anyone, but at the end, she lowers her
fists because her father, Atticus, tells her not to fight. Scouts views of womanhood, influenced by
how Aunt Alexandra, Miss Maudie, and Calpurniaact, make her think more about becoming a
woman and less of a tomboy.
In the beginning of the book, Scout is a tomboy. She acts, dresses, and walks like a boy because
when she was little her mom died, leaving her in a house with two men, Jem and Atticus. Scout has
a lot of masculine influence but no ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

She asked me to tell you you must try to behave like the little lady and gentleman that you are.
She wants to talk to you about the family and what it s meant to Maycomb County though the
years, so you ll have some idea of who you are, so you might be moved to behave accordingly. (133)
Aunt Alexandra is mad at Atticus for defending Tom in the trial because it does not look good for
the family name. At the tea party Scout s views on Aunt Alexandra change, When she had them on
the road, Aunt Alexandra stepped back. She gave Miss Maudie a look of pure gratitude, and I
wondered at the world of women. Miss Maudie and Aunt Alexandra had never been especially
clock and here was Aunty silently thanking her for something (233). Scout respects Aunt Alexandra
a lot more after this scene happens; she sees that womanhood is not exactly how she imagines it
and that it might not be that bad after all.
Aunt Alexandra is a total opposite of Miss Maudie, the kind woman who lives across the street,
and is always there for Scout to talk to. She does not judge people based on what she hears from
the other women in town, but rather simply lives her life maintaining a broad minded view about
the trial and many other things. She calls

Teaching Styles, And Parental Motivation Essay
Summary:
First time college students tend to fail and do poorly due to possible low standards of academic
preparations performed by high school teachers and poor motivation by parents. Could this be
caused by how each teacher is structured to teach, and how busy parents are to become involved?
Well, the result of my research provides proof that the basis of offering a visual structure along
with hands on activities for students to perform will increase their chances of doing well in college.
At the same time, my studies also show that parental involvement significantly improves students
overall academic progress.
Introduction:
This report is based off on research provided by scholarly individuals in the field of teaching and
state standards as well. Some of the main ideas I impose tend to deal more with how teachers
behave, how teachers engage students in academic school work, and how parent involvement should
be significantly improved. Some of these ideas involve teacher preparedness, teaching styles, and
parental motivation. The research constructed was well thought out and planned through a series of
professional peer editors and not only supplies information but includes visual aids throughout the
project to help visualize the topic at hand.
Criteria:
I have included a list of some of the main concepts that will be addressed in this report as it
regards to some of the factors that may come into play when seeking a valid solution.

Major Depressive Disorder
According to Barlow (2008), major depressive disorder (MDD) is the most common depressive
disorder and affects million of Americans each year. The symptoms experienced by individuals
with MDD can be debilitating. The Global Burden of Disease Study, initiated by the World Health
Organization, estimated depression to be the fourth leading cause of disability in the world
(Barlow, 2008). To further examine this, The National Comorbidity Survey Replication (NCS R)

A Picture Of Failure At Show Santiago s Persistence,...
The author starts the book with a picture of failure to show Santiago s persistence, passion, and
courage in the face of defeat.
Symbolism is when something abstract is represented with something concrete. Santiago is
described as, thin and gaunt with deep wrinkles in the back of his neck , brown blotches of
benevolent skin cancer , his hands had deep creased scars from handling heavy fish , and everything
about him was old except for his eyes and they were the same color as the sea and where cheerful
and undefeated. Santiago s hand scars are his battle wounds and shows that his nature is to
overcome obstacles in his path. His wrinkles and cancer spots make him look like a simple old
man not concerned with looks showing us his humility. Also his eyes that look undefeated are
symbolic of his hope and perseverance.
Santiago s home is constructed of tough bud shield from the royal palm. It has basic furniture, a
bed, a chair, and a table. The house has dirt floors and on the floor is a place to cook with charcoal.
Santiago, like his home, is simple, modest, and strong. Even though he lives somewhat on the
goodwill of other people, he manages to survive and endure. Santiago isn t caught up about when he
attained humility but recognizes that he does have this trait and is proud of it without being
arrogant. Santiago shows that humility and pride aren t mutually different and can be one in the
same. Hemingway does admire Santiago through the book. He is constantly

Abstract
It has been the case that over the duration that mankind has graced the planet there has been group s
hell bent on enacting their beliefs and values upon the rest of the world. As time has passed there
have been many times that these groups have changed the face of the planet permanently. You can

Goals
The primary aim of the group is to establish an Islamic state in Egypt with small secular Arab
governments. The remarkable feature of Egyptian Islamic Jihad as I have learned is a powerful
force challenging the cohesion of states. As a result, Egyptian Islamic Jihad is responsible for a
variety of national and international tensions, such as the revival of communal tension in the
Middle East. The group of radical Egyptian Islamist thinkers took hold of a serious nationalist
conception of jihad and its role in establishing a truly Islamic government (Knapp, 2003).
According to its own self proclaimed dogma, Egyptian Islamic Jihad is prepared to oppose their
understanding of tradition to that of their community s leaders.
Ideology
Ideology of the group is vividly expressed in a pamphlet they circulated years ago The Neglected
Duty which has been lost in time. The pamphlet makes the argument that jihad, as armed action is
the heart of Islam, and neglect of this type of action by any Muslim has caused the current
depressed condition of Islam in the world, of course without taking into consideration the serious
shortcomings of the culture itself. (Knapp, 2003) This violence serves the interests of political and
economic profiteers; it creates its own

The Pros And Cons Of Students In Education
Unlike fully inclusive classrooms, fully exclusive classrooms limit students opportunities to be
apart of socially diverse environments. In his social experiment, Fryxell finds that when two groups
of students with severe disabilities are broken up into two groups where one is in general education
classrooms and the other is in self contained classrooms that, [S]tudents placed in [the] general
education[classrooms] ha[ve] higher levels of social contact with peers without disabilities; ...
students in general education receiv[e] higher levels of social support from others, as well as
provid[e] higher levels of social support; and ... those students hav[e] substantially larger friendship
networks composed primarily of peers without disabilities (Fryxell Placement along ). Additionally,
Stevens and Slavin observe that after a year of fully inclusive classes that, [H]andicapped students
[are] more accepted socially by their non handicapped peers than were similar students in traditional
schools with pull out remedial programs (Stevens and Slavin The Cooperative ). Socialization with
mainstream students is important to how students without disabilities view their peers who have
them. The University of Greenwich finds that students without disabilities who have not had a lot
of experiences regarding students with disabilities have stereotypic attitude[s]/judgments towards
people with disabilities based on the psychological and physical attributes (stereotypes) of groups

My Favorite Sermon
It is fair enough to say that I got an early Christmas present this year as my favorite preacher, Tim
Delina, came to church to minister this past Sunday. I found it funny because just this past
week, I was asking myself where he has been. I ve listened to so many preachers preach, and no
one comes close to Pastor Tim in the way he explains his messages. His sermons, inspired by
God, is able to change the hardened of hearts. Never have I seen a preacher use humor to connect
with his audience as Pastor Tim does. Look up his sermons on YouTube, you won t be
disappointed. I ll attach my favorite sermon of his (JONAH HAS TOO MANY CHAPTERS) at
the end of this post. I blogged about this sermon some weeks back, but it s worth listening to.
When God wants to speak to you, He uses different means to do so. In my case, He used Tim
Delina to minister to me. Two weeks ago, an elder at church ministered on tithing, but I didn t
feel the sermon was meant for me. Pastor Tim then came last week and ministered on that same
subject...again! I believe God said to Himself Joseph if you didn t think that last sermon was
meant for you, maybe if I send you your favorite preacher, you ll then believe it is for you. As he
spoke on this topic, I began to think about my level of tithing or the lack of it. (I ll post a link to
Pastor Tim s sermon on tithing at the end of this post) For some of us, we think we are entitled to

Ultrasonic:
Ultrasonic is science of acoustics dealing with generation and use of inaudible acoustic waves. The
sound waves having frequencies ranging above 20KHZ up to several MHZ i.e. human audible
ranges are called ultrasonic waves. The sound waves of low frequencies i.e. below human audible
range are infrasonic waves. Like life, ultrasonic was originated from sea. The five senses of living
beings i.e. hearing, touch, smell, sight and taste are interdependent on each other. Out of these five,
two are important for long rang interaction i.e. sight and hearing and other three have short range
performance. But these things are different under water because long range sight has no use under
water. By default, sound waves have long range sensing functionality under water.
The era of ultrasonic began with the wrecking of RMS Titanic which crashed with ice berg. The
detection of ice berg was done by high frequency waves. In 1915 Langevin (the father of ultrasonic)
invented the underwater SONAR for submarine detection. Sokolov suggested the concept of
ultrasonic metal flaw detection in 1928. After that slow and steady progress was made in the
measurement of propagation constant of material. The propagation of ultrasonic waves through
solid material has been used to detect hidden cracks, porosity, voids and other discontinuities in
metal. The field of ultrasonic has wide application in science, medicine and

Springbok Tour Essay
The events that occured in New Zealand during the 1981 Springbok tour were not simply
spontaneous. Instead, they were the result of New Zealanders becoming progressively uneasy over
a number of years with New Zealand s readiness to compete with the Springboks.
The 1960 tour is credited as the starting point for the debate surrounding sporting contact with South
Africa. There was extensive public discussion and anger over the NZRFU s decision to exclude

The Apartheid regime and term apartheid in South Africa was introduced in 1948 as a part of
Daniel Francois Malan s election campaign. The apartheid system was a type of racial
segregation introduced in South Africa in 1948, resulting in the majority of Blacks in South
Africa being refused basic human rights, whilst whites were living in a time of white supremacy
. It included laws such as the Population Registration Act 1950, the Reservation of Separate
Amenities Act 1953, and the Immorality Act 1950. These laws severely limited the rights of
blacks. The apartheid system forcefully suppressed any resistance, such as at Sharpeville on
March 21 1960, when 69 blacks were killed, and the Soweto Riots 1976 77, when 576 people
died. This abuse towards people of colour in South Africa made people around the world want to
protest against South Africa s government. However, the New Zealand government did not take
serious action against South Africa. The National government had a protocol of bridge building ,
which sustained ties with South Africa. They allowed sporting contact, such as a Springbok tour
of New Zealand in 1960. This led to protest in 1981 because the government s lack of action
against the abuse caused by the apartheid system made people want to protest

Similarities Between Hercules And Hercules
The myth of the Greek hero Hercules and the one seen in the Disney movie have a lot of
differences, but also some similarities. For example, one difference is in the Disney movie
Hercules only performed 7 labors, but in the Greek myth Hercules had to complete 12 labors.
However, a similarity is that in both versions Hercules had to endure the hero s journey. There
are many other differences and similarities worth mentioning. Zeus fell in love with a Greek
woman named Alcmene, and impregnated her. When the wife of Zeus, Hera, found out she
tried to prevent the birth of the child. Hera could not stop the birth, and the child was named
Hercules, which means glorious gift to Hera in Greek. Hercules was a demi god because of one
human parent and one god parent. Hera tried to kill the baby by placing snakes in his crib, butt
the child strangled the snakes before they could kill him. Hera wanted to get revenge on Zeus
by making Hercules life miserable. Hercules marries Megara later, after having proved himself
an excellent warrior and she birthed him two daughters. Hera caused Hercules to go crazy, and
he killed his wife and daughters. When Hercules finally came to his senses he was distraught,
and went to King Eurypterus and requested punishment. King Eurypterus asked the gods to help
him come up with a punishment, and Hera is the one that responded to his request. King
Eurypterus told Hercules that the only way to cleanse himself is to complete 12 heroic labors.
He added that performing these labors would cause Hercules to become an immortal god with
honor restored. Hercules first labor was to kill the Nemean lion. The second labor was to kill the
multi headed hydra. The third labor was to capture Cerynitian without wounding it. The fourth
labor was to capture an enormous boar. The fifth labor was to clean the stables of King Augeas in
a single day. The sixth labor was to kill the stymphalian birds without entering the swamp. The
seventh labor tasked Hercules was disposal of the Minotaur. The eighth labor was to bring the
mares of Diomedes to King Eurypterus. The ninth labor was to retrieve the belt of the queen
Hippolyta. The tenth labor was to capture cattle that belonged to Geryon, a monster. The eleventh

The Codes Of Ethics In The Code Of Engineering Ethics
2.0Introduction
The word ethic itself is defined as a set of moral values and the system of moral principles that
have been used to interact and communicate between one individual to the group of people,
community or association. When it comes to codes of engineering ethics, we must know that this
is a set of moral principles that need to be applied in the profession as engineers. In other words,
engineering ethics bring the meaning as a set of law and specific rules for the engineer to be

It is important to know that the big companies out there or huge organization may have their own
engineering code of ethics with the same objectives as to increase the integrity and quality of the

Socrates View Of Children In The 21st Century
In society today, the view of children has yet to transfigure. Over two thousand years ago, Greek
Philosopher Socrates argued that children ...love luxury, they have bad manners, contempt for
authority, they show disrespect for elders and love chatter in place of exercise. Children are now
tyrants, not the servants of their households. They no longer rise when elders enter the room. They
contradict their parents, chatter before company, gobble up dainties at the table, cross their legs,
and tyrannize over their teachers. Socrates view has gradually developed into a clichГ©, although a
vast amount of time has lapsed, this view of children still permeates in the 21st Century today.
Conjointly, in literature children still face this... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As Jeanette recounts her life succeeding her encounter with her mother as she is seen diving
through the dumpster, at the beginning of scene one, with no remorse. Whereas Jeanette abashed
by what she sees, decides to cower and hide. Although her mother is content with her life Jeanette
invites her to lunch and confronts her about her outlook on life. Rose Mary, Jeanette s Mother,
showing her spite towards the confrontation tells Jeanette that she has her values mixed up and
she is the one with a problem. The memoir takes a dramatic deviation from reality to her latter
life, age three to be exact. In this shift we see a more, inquisitive and adventurous Jeanette. At the
beginning of the shift Jeanette, recaps her earliest memory of being burned at her very juvenile
age, as she cooked for herself hotdogs on the stovetop. The flame caught the pink fabric of [her]
skirt and climbed [her] stomach. Then the flames leaped up and reached her face. In this harrowing
depiction, our child narrator doesn t accentuate the immense amount of pain she is tangibly
experiencing, from her third degree like burns, but rather her fascination with the events taking
place. In view of this, the usage of the acclaimed child narrator is effective, you would presume for

Psychoactive Drugs Alter Consciousness Essay
Awareness of your body as well as the environment is known as consciousness. Psychoactive drugs
alters your consciousness by affecting your perceptions, sensation, attention, judgment, memory, self
control, emotions, thinking, and behaviors. Three psychoactive drugs are depressants, stimulates,
and hallucinogens. Depressants lower your body s basic activities functions and neural activities.
Stimulates intensify neural activities and the central nervous system. Lastly hallucinogens are
sensations that are not really there. Depressants depress activity in the central nervous system.
Depressants lowers your body basic functions as well as your neural activities. Alcohol a

Traditional Society And New Colonial Society Essay
In many of the books we read traditional society and new colonial society clashed when brought
together. Most of the time the colonial society overtook the traditional beliefs and forced the
populations to convert to European ideals. This often manifested within religious practices. When
people were made to give up thousands of years worth of customs they did not willingly convert.
This often hostile takeover then isolated people from each other and made peace difficult to
achieve. In both Things Fall Apartand The Wine of Astonishment a colonial power comes into a
culture and tears it apart. By outlawing common practices many people held dear to their hearts,
the new governments hurt the population more than helped. For a short time people would accept
the new ways and try to comply with the new restrictions on their culture. As more and more
restrictions were added people stopped following the new traditions and went back to their lives.
This led to governments terrorizing citizens and made people not trust those with power. Forced
modernization was bad for the native people of Africa and the Caribbean. A common way that
modern and traditional culture clashed was in religion. When it comes to converting people to
Christianity, missionaries try to reform the area they are in. On the continent of Africa the
Portuguese were the first to send missionaries. They continued the practice for centuries. One group
of people would be selected to reform first with the hope the rest

The Motivation And Intrinsic Motivation
All children are unique and learn in different ways, however, when it comes to their motivation
they will most likely fall into one of two categories. Extrinsic motivation revolves around grades
and points and competition, and intrinsic motivation stems more from personal interests, sense of
belonging, and passion to grow. (Carol Dweck). Roman, an 11 year old high functioning autistic
child, had no desire to participate in any class learning when I began working with him. He only
excitedly and willingly participated when the situation was mandatory or if rewards were included.

the format and structure of the activities. When rules are provided to the children in an autonomy
supportive way (explanatory rationales, and acknowledgment of the children s perspectives and
feelings) there is no decrease in engagement as opposed to children who do not have their input
included. (Skinner and Belmot 1999). Personal interest, opinions, and overall intrinsic factors are
why Roman started becoming eager and excited to engage and try new things.
Including more team based activities helped Roman feel a sense of belonging and safety.
Maintaining a high ratio of positive statements as well as expressing respect for all students, builds
trust in the classroom. (Evertson, C. M., Emmer, E. T). By implementing activities that had more of
a collaborative process, peer encouragement and help were more evident and motivation can
increase when everyone feels safe and helps each other. (Hagelskamp, C. 51 (3 4), 530 54). Roman
began not fearing participating in activities once he knew that everyone supported each other and
their input. Additionally, educational games where students cheer on their teammates boosted self
esteem, and the emotional well being of students can influence the quality of their participation.

Similarities Between Beowulf And Harry Potter
It is truly amazing to compare and contrast literature from today with literature from centuries ago,
and find out just how similar they can be even though they are so different. Two stories that
display this relationship very clearly are The Mwindo Epic and Harry Potter. Both of these stories
have many similar themes such as prophecies of birth, threat at infancy, magic and special abilities,
and so much more. Even though they have so many similarities, these stories have completely
different plots, such as the fact that in The Mwindo Epic, Mwindo s attacker is his own father,
while in Harry Potter, his attacker kills his father, and is a complete stranger. For these stories to
be separated by so many years, it is quite interesting for... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Unfortunately, a cricket tells Shemwindo about Mwindo and he decides to kill him. He tries three
times, first by throwing spears at him, then burying him alive, and finally he seals him in a drum
and dumps him into a river. If this isn t bad enough, the river that Mwindo is floating down
happens to lead to the pool of Mukiti, and he eventually ends up there. Mukiti challenges Mwindo,
but Iyangura saves him from the drum. Kasiyembe also attempts to kill Mwindo but is
unsuccessful. Mwindo had a rough infancy where many different people tried to kill him for no
reason, much like Harry Potter. Harry Potter also deals with many different people trying to kill
him as a child. The first time this happened was when he was still an infant and Voldemort kills his
mother and father, and ultimately tries to kill him. Just like Mwindo, Voldemort is unsuccessful,
and Harry is safe for many years. Throughout his childhood he is safe, but when he returns to the
wizarding world, he is in constant danger, and Voldemort, along with his followers, attempt to kill
Harry. Both of these characters have a rough infancy and childhood, constantly having people trying
to kill them, and this is just another similarity these two stories have.

Should Women Take A Husband s Last Name In The United States
One Family Name
Today in the United States, there is a more frequent trend for women to keep their last name after
marriage. It should be unacceptable in modern times for a wife to disagree with her spouse about
legally changing her last name to his. The whole idea of marriage is for two people to leave
behind their individuality, and join together as one unit. Sharing the same name is a symbol that
both people have committed to this union without any reservations. Although some people may
argue that the man should take the woman s last name, this is easier said than done. In all but nine
states in the United States a whole separate legal name changing procedure is required for a man to
take his wife s last name. However, a woman can easily change her name through the marriage
process alone. Even in contemporary America, a woman should take their husband s last name after
marriage because it will not only benefit them, but it will also benefit their children, their ... Show

After all, a marriage is two people joining together to become one. The woman taking her
husband s last name shows that she is committing herself to be his wife. If a woman has
reservations about taking her husband s last name, then how can she be confident about being
his wife. A woman that keeps her maiden name is trying to move forward into a marriage union
while still clinging to her past of being a single individual. The man has to do the asking, take on
the bills, be the provider and caretaker of the family, it is only right that his last name be taken
by his new wife. If the family were to get monograms done or build a family tree for decoration,
it would not feel united having different last names on it. A wife taking a husband s last name is
one of the ways that a couple demonstrates their oneness. Also, this sharing of a name signifies a

Green Champion Paper
Brewing of a Sustainable Idea
In the current day and age, environmental issues are beginning to be considered more frequently
in business decision and in governmental policy. The current threat of global warming, sea level
rise, ocean acidification, and extinction of species highlight the consequences of not being
environmentally aware. Even the smallest green decisions like choosing to car pool or to recycle
can be decisions that have a huge impact that positively effects the environment. These decisions
can have far reaching implications. For instance, someone who witnesses these green decisions
may be inspired to make environmentally conscious decisions as well. Much in the same way
people could be inspired, businesses can be inspired as well. Creating a sustainability initiative in a
business can be extremely positive and rewarding. For this reason, I think it is vital that the local
beer brewing company, COOP Ale Works, adopt a sustainability program. Many breweries have
adopt sustainable framework, two such examples are New Belgium Brewing and Sierra Nevada. I
believe by implementing some of these ideals into their brewing process COOP can inspire other
businesses to become more sustainable. In this paper I will mention the current problems with the
brewing process, highlight the changes that can be made based off of current implementation at
breweries, and present a four point plan to

Theodore Roethke The Slough Analysis
The Slough, by Theodore Roethke, spoke to me in a way I could relate. Based on my experience,
I felt a sense of random reverie ending with a search for answers to timeless, unanswered
questions. Furthermore, I have a passion for nature and I like how the poet used association with
flora and fauna to provide a visual display among the confusion.
The other deciding factor was I found this poem easy to read at a nice steady pace with rhythm,
rhyme and minimal variations in pitch and volume required. The poet refers to himself in a third
person; therefore, leads me to believe he was pondering life within his thoughts, rather than actually
speaking aloud. The words came across as random thoughts, a daydream of sorts. Therefore, with

Database is defined as a set of related data in many tables and uses links through something called

DBMS
It stands for Database Management System, it is a concept of rules that all the latest and major

specific rules.
To summarize, a database is an organized data collection or information that happens to be easily

How Did Lenin Gain Power
The first two leaders of the Soviet Union, Vladimir Lenin and Joseph Stalin had very different
methods in commanding their country. Differences can be seen in the way they achieved their
political power and how they dealt with their political opponents. Similarities can be seen in the
way that these men were unwilling to share their power. Vladimir Leninachieved his political
power by rallying fellow Bolsheviks to seize government installations and storm the capital. The
plan made Lenin the visible figurehead of the Bolsheviks and the new government that was put into
place. While Lenin overtly planned his seizure of power, Joseph Stalinwas able to achieve his

Of the delegates who attended the National Congress of the CPSU (Communist Party of the Soviet
Union) in 1934, fully 70 percent had been executed by the time of the National Congress in 1939

country. Lenin differed by allowing his Bolshevik opponents to remain in their posts, but was
mindful of their activities. He took action to prevent these opponents from ousting him form
power. This action can be seen when Lenin, weary of his opponents turning to the Romanov
family for leadership had the entire family executed. A similar characteristic that both of these
leaders shared was their refusal to share power. This can be seen in Stalin s accumulation of
powers as the general secretary, which lead to his complete control of the country. Lenin also
maintained this trait as he actively tried to subvert the leftist that had opposed the coup before it
had occurred. I think that if Lenin had lived another twenty years that the country may have had a
completely different government in place. Lenin was able to guide the party through the civil car
that solidified his power in the new government, but he had a lot of opponents with differing views.

The Cult Of True Womanhood
Throughout history there has been a strong hold on women to adhere to the culture of domesticity.
During the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries, this value system was engrained in the class
system in the United States. According to Barbara Welter in her article The Cult of True
Womanhood: 1820 1860 this system of values defined a womans role in regards to the virtues of her
actions within the family system. A woman was to be submissive, pure, and pious. She also had
to fulfill her domestic duties to the family and community. The women of a community were the
connections to faith and family. They had to uphold the standards of their religion and be
steadfast in their faith. Having a pious presence in her family and community also built up a
woman s self worth as she was an active member with the church. Her Christianity offered her
praise and respect from her fellow citizens and her family. This social order is presented in
Nathanial Hawthorne s The Scarlet Letterwritten in 1850. Hester Prynne, the heroine of the novel
could possibly be viewed as one of the very first feminist in literature. She defies the power of the
Puritan society and from her rebellious actions; the reader can see an emerging feminist
consciousness within Hester, which is then passed along to her daughter Pearl.
This defiance is seen almost immediately when the young priest Arthur Dimmesdale beseeches
Hester to name the father of the baby. To the astonishment of the community of gawkers, Hester

Weaknesses:
Although Merck has encountered success, the organization has confronted weaknesses and
disappointments. One weakness that Merck has confronted is the duration of the drug
development, the value of the drug being evaluated and the length of the FDA application for
drug approval. For example, of the 5,000 molecules that are discovered, only couple of hundred
are investigated, only one enters into the market and only a third becomes a marketable success
(Gilbert and Sarkar 3). A drug development time may take on average over 15 years and
expenditure R D total costs of about $880 million (Gilbert and Sarkar 2) (Exhibit 3). The length
for and FDA application is at least 100,000 pages, which details the potential drug s usage,
production, formula and labeling. Another weakness with Merck is that too much power is given
to scientists in decision making of candidate drugs. The MRL was somewhat the main decision
makers in organizing the drug development process including final say on whether Phase V or
post evaluation drug studies could be used. MRL, at one time, did not show a lot of emphasis on
Phase V and wanted to move on after Phase III. Figures like Per Wold Olsen, President of Human

In the 1990 s we saw many artists sampling the work of other artists in order to make their own

Although sampling has been around for a long time, Hip Hop musicwas one of the most popular

The HHS is required to oversee IRBs in order to ensure that they are functioning properly.
Institutional Review Boards cannot function properly without being overseen by the HHS, and
therefore lack of oversight would lead to weakened protection of human participants. An
Institutional Review Board may not fulfill its purpose without the HHS s close oversight. Two
agencies within the Department of Health and Human Services, the Office for Protection from

British prime minister, was furious when he heard about the Boston Tea Party. Parliament decided
to punish Boston. In the spring of 1774 it passed the Coercive Acts. Colonists called these laws the
Intolerable Acts. (Bipson; page sixty eight). An internet, Encyclopedia Britannica , reported the
cause of the Boston Massacre, Emboldened by the knowledge that the Riot Act had not been read
and that the soldiers could not fire their weapons until it had been read and then only if the crowd
failed to disperse within an hour the crowd taunted the soldiers and dared them to shoot, while
pelting them with snow, ice, and oyster shells. (Britannica.com) The Boston Massacre was caused
by a group a colonists who protested and made the situation worse. This persuaded the colonists to
become more angrier and try to rebel the British. In the textbook, the stated that the colonists
protests on the Stamp Act made Parliament have control on making law for the colonies, Members
of Parliament were upset that colonists had challenged their authority. Thus, Parliament issued the
Declaratory Act, which stated that Parliament had the power to make laws for the colonies in all

Justin Martyr Essay
Irenaeus A key figure in the movement toward orthodoxy and against heretical beliefs, most
famously known for his work Against Heresies. His work was based on unity, which directly
contrasted the Gnostic teaching of that day. He worked toward furthering the church and
destroying those against it. According to Ferguson, Irenaeus was thus both a biblical theologian and
a catholic theologian.
Justin Martyr: Justin Martyr, an early apologist and arguably the most important in the second
century, wrote several works that have withstood the test of time: two Apologies and a Dialogue
with Trypho. While Christians were being persecuted Justin responded against many of the
accusations against them, such as: incest, cannibalism, atheism, and Christianity being a subversive
group. However, arguably one of Justin s greatest contributions was the formulation of the Logos
doctrine, which was a stepping stone to the formation of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This was a special meeting day for Christians on which they observed practices such as: the Lord
s supper, prayer, singing, reading from the Scriptures, and exhortation. Certain early Jewish
Christians celebrated Sabbath as well as the Lord s day, for observing the Lord s Day was
originated from the Jewish practice of observing Sabbath.
Modalistic Monarchianism: Monarchianism meaning, one rule, and modalism: which views the
Father, Son, and Spirit as three modes of one God, give meaning to this term. The early church
fathers felt this movement to be the most dangerous to the church, for it dealt with the subject of
Patripassianism, which was considered egregious in Greek philosophy. To deduce that one God
acted in three different forms would be to say that the same one God also died, which could not be
logically comprehended by the hellenistically infused mindset of that era, and consequently this
subject was addressed within the ecumenical councils.

Brief Analysis Of John Steinbeck s Life And Work
John Ernst Steinbeck Jr. was born on February 27, 1902 in Salinas, California. He was one of
three children, and the only male, born to John Ernst Steinbeck (father) and Olive Hamilton
(mother). Growing up, John s family lived in a small town where he would spend his summer
working on farms and ranches. Working on the farm gave him inspiration to write about the
scenery, and many times, he would write whenever he had free time in the laboratory of
Spreckels Sugar Company. Seeing the migrant workers also gave John an opportunity to see the
hardships and troubles that many go through just to stay in the United States, and he would use
this to create stories later on in life Upon graduating high school, John decided to attend Stanford
University to study English Literature. However, despite his time there, John was unable to earn
a degree and was forced to look for work. New York City was his first destination, but unable to
publish anything there, John moved back to California, where he would meet his first wife, Carol,
while working as a tour guide and caretaker in Lake Tahoe. Eventually, in 1929, John was able to
publish his first novel, Cup Of Gold, and in 1933, his novel Tortilla... Show more content on

previous recipients have included musicians Joan Baez and Jackson Browne, and filmmaker Ken

Dunbar And The Caged Bird Essay
History in the past provided us with many historical events, such as the March on Washington,
Montgomery Bus Boycott, and Martin Luther KingВґs ВЁI Have a DreamВЁ speech, which led to
Civil Rights Movement. As a famed Civil Rights activist, Rosa Parks refused to surrender her
seat to a white passenger on a public bus where the conflict came along. As Poets, Maya Angelou
and Paul Lawrence Dunbar both utilized characters of a caged bird to symbolize African
Americans. Being one of those African Americans, Rosa Parks encountered many obstacles in her
efforts to realize a kind of social freedom that every American citizen should have, which
compares her to a caged bird due to not having equal rights The caged bird in the poems

This is not accurate evidence of why she d be compared to a free bird because Rosa Parks had to
fight single handedly for our people and our human rights that no colored people were given. In the
Caged Bird poem, the poet states, But a caged bird stands on the grave of dreams/... his wings are
clipped and his feet are tied/ So he opens his throat to sing. (26 29). Meanwhile some people seem
and argue that Rosa Parks is compared to a free bird, Rosa sparked all of the rights for us and had
to overcome many obstacles during this time period. Also, many free in a way, it s undeniable that
Rosa Parks is considered free in a way, it s undeniable that Rosa had a really rough time period she
lived in, just like the caged bird. The poet of Sympathy states, I know why the caged bird beats his
wings/ Till its blood is red on the cruel bars/ For he must fly back to his perch and cling. (8 10). All
in all, Rosa Parks is trapped in a world of segregation, where she tries to escape which makes it
unpleasant on her. Despite the fact that some consider Rosa Parks as a free bird would. She had to
overgo a human barrier that many had to

Analysis Of Ben Johnson And Christopher Marlow Essay
Now, you all know about the famous playwright William Shakespeare. However, do you know
about the other famous play writers of the time? Now, your reaction might be, Wait, huh? There
were other playwrights during Shakespeare s time? Yes there were, and they were actually quite
famous. Two of the most prominent ones were Ben Johnson and Christopher Marlow. Today, we
mainly focus on Shakespeare and his works. However, each of these men were making plenty of
moolah back in the day. They even each other and had very light rivalries. I will be talking about
these two men s works and how they affected Elizabethan drama. (Volunteer doopededoo) So, let
s start with Ben Johnson. This man was first born in London, England in 1572, just nine years
after Shakespeare was born. Shortly after little Ben was born, his dear sweet father died. His
mother, being, you know, poor, remarried a bricklayer. Ben would then go to the St. Martin s
Parish school and learn about many classical figures, such as the scholar William Camden. After
graduating, Ben became a bricklayer, just like his new father! Yet, he didn t really like this too
much, so he went to serve in the military at Flanders. Yet, he didn t really like this either. So, he
decided to be an actor instead! Ben was finally on the road to making some great literary works!
In 1594, Ben married Anne Lewis and had too beautiful children. Besides this, we don t know
much about his family. Ben described his wife as

My Experience At Dunkin Donuts
Everybody remembers his or her first job most likely not every detail, but definitely the
experiences one learned. My first job had its ups and downs similar to a roller coaster. Being a
Dunkin Donuts employee is a satisfying feeling because daily you re surrounded by not only
coffee but delicious donuts. My experience as a Dunkin Donuts employee taught me patience and
the importance of being a hard worker. First, I understood the importance of patience because a cup
of coffeeis made every second. I started my first day at Dunkin Donuts on a Saturday and quickly
learned how busy the weekends can be. I woke up feeling real nervous that morning. I felt even
more nervous knowing my parents decided to wake up early as well. Mom why... Show more

Although now in days we laugh about it every day. Several days, into working I forgot to turn
the burner on for Decaf coffee and I had to remake several drinks. Luckily the customer didn t
mind waiting. Instead, he asked How do you pronounce your name? Honestly, every customer
asked about my name. Usually, every conversation at the cash register or drive through involved
a discussion of my name origin or pronunciation. Although, I learned more than the intentions at
Dunkin Donuts because I learned the importance of patience through learning. Yes, this includes
having patience in endless conversations customers usually like to have with me. In the time, I
realized the importance of being a hard worker. Several months into working at Dunkin Donuts,
I decided to quit. I had in mind working several months until I started college in the Spring.
James I need to tell you something. I said to my assistant manager. I remember it being late at
night that evening. I start college next week and I believe this week is my last. All right, I will

extremely upset with my decision because James told me earlier her mother in law passed away
several days ago. I felt guilty maybe resigning could stress her more out. He texted her right away.
James showed me the text, Mrs. Sharon replied to him Aw! I don t want her to leave! But, I

I guess it is whatever you believe yourself to be true. I have held what he has warned of in the
highest regard if you take into consideration that we have been in a conflict every ten to fifteen
years since, it almost seems that this machine needs to be feed with war. Otherwise, our military
serves no purpose other than defense.
I like that he told the people to always beware of this overbearing federal spending, and then
justification of the costs to use the military, and the people and assets it would also consume.

Thesis Paper
1992 LA Riots On April 28, 1992, several riots erupted throughout Los Angeles, California due
to the unjust trial when several officers were caught on video brutally beating Mr. Rodney King
on the street. Thousands of African Americans were unhappy with the decision of the court
allowing the four officers to get off with no charges. During the LA Riots, over 55 people were
killed, 2,000 were injured, and 7,000 were put into police custody. It was nearly $1 billion in
damages done to property and 4,000 buildings in the city were burned. The three days of the LA
Riots will be remembered in history because of the police brutality, national reaction to the

It brought a community of African Americans and other races together. As a result of the rioting,
the voices of thousands were heard throughout the country and throughout the world. They were
able to get justice for Rodney King by following a famous quote of a civil rights activist Malcolm
X This is our aim. It s rough; we have to smooth it up some. But we re not trying to put
something together that s smooth. We don t care how rough it is. We don t care how tough it is.
We don t care how backward it may sound. In essence it only means we want one thing. We
declare our right on this earth to be a man, to be a human being, to be respected as a human being,
to be given the rights of a human being in this society, on this earth, in this day, which we intend to
bring into existence by any means necessary. Although the rioters could have protested or showed
their views in a better manner, they still were able to have their voices heard on a national and
international level, and this event has left a lasting impression in American

Under Armour Is The Third Biggest Sportswear Brand Of The...
Problem Identification: Under Armour is the second biggest sportswear brand in the US losing
the first place to Nike. It is a great accomplishment for Under Armour considering the fact that the
company was established in 1996. Nevertheless, Under Armour does not have a well known
name so that people will actually consider it to have a real possibility to create a threat to Nike
and surpass them at some point. Under Armour faces many competitors besides Nike, like Adidas,
Reebok, and Puma. While Under Armour makes exceptional products that are of similar quality,
what makes Nike so much stronger of a company? A main problem identified was that Under
Armour does not have much international revenue compared to its counterpart Nike, and Under
Armour does not try to send a message with their clothes. They just want to sell them. In fact,
according to 247wallst.com, Nike had an international revenue quarter of about $7 billion while
Under Armour saw a quarterly revenue of $610 million. External Environment: One of the strongest
sides of Under Armour is its outstanding technological development. Under Armour has made
many strides in technology of their products. For example, Under Armour has begun using a
waterproof and water resistant material. One of the most notable major changes in technology
Under Armour is working on is the use of a touch screen in the arm of a sleeve for instant access to
information, whether it is heart rate monitor or simply social media and music. The

Symbolism is when something abstract is represented with something concrete. Santiago is described as, thin and gaunt with deep wrinkles in the back of his neck , brown blotches of benevolent skin cancer , his hands had deep creased scars from handling heavy fish , and everything about him was old except for his eyes and they were the same color as the sea and where cheerful and undefeated. Santiago s hand scars are his battle wounds and shows that his nature is to overcome obstacles in his path. His wrinkles and cancer spots make him look like a simple old man not concerned with looks showing us his humility. Also his eyes that look undefeated are symbolic of his hope and perseverance. Santiago s home is constructed of tough bud shield from the royal palm. It has basic furniture, a bed, a chair, and a table. The house has dirt floors and on the floor is a place to cook with charcoal. Santiago, like his home, is simple, modest, and strong. Even though he lives somewhat on the goodwill of other people, he manages to survive and endure. The group of radical Egyptian Islamist thinkers took hold of a serious nationalist conception of jihad and its role in establishing a truly Islamic government (Knapp, 2003). The five senses of living beings i.e. hearing, touch, smell, sight and taste are interdependent on each other. Out of these five, two are important for long rang interaction i.e. sight and hearing and other three have short range performance. • 25. Traditional Society And New Colonial Society Essay In many of the books we read traditional society and new colonial society clashed when brought together. Most of the time the colonial society overtook the traditional beliefs and forced the populations to convert to European ideals. This often manifested within religious practices. When people were made to give up thousands of years worth of customs they did not willingly convert. This often hostile takeover then isolated people from each other and made peace difficult to achieve. In both Things Fall Apartand The Wine of Astonishment a colonial power comes into a culture and tears it apart. By outlawing common practices many people held dear to their hearts, the new governments hurt the population more than helped. For a short time people would accept the new ways and try to comply with the new restrictions on their culture. As more and more restrictions were added people stopped following the new traditions and went back to their lives. This led to governments terrorizing citizens and made people not trust those with power. Forced modernization was bad for the native people of Africa and the Caribbean. A common way that modern and traditional culture clashed was in religion. When it comes to converting people to Christianity, missionaries try to reform the area they are in. On the continent of Africa the Portuguese were the first to send missionaries. They continued the practice for centuries. Extrinsic motivation revolves around grades and points and competition, and intrinsic motivation stems more from personal interests, sense of belonging, and passion to grow. (Carol Dweck). Roman, an 11 year old high functioning autistic child, had no desire to participate in any class learning when I began working with him. Both of these stories have many similar themes such as prophecies of birth, threat at infancy, magic and special abilities, and so much more. Even though they have so many similarities, these stories have completely different plots, such as the fact that in The Mwindo Epic, Mwindo s attacker is his own father, while in Harry Potter, his attacker kills his father, and is a complete stranger. It should be unacceptable in modern times for a wife to disagree with her spouse about legally changing her last name to his. The whole idea of marriage is for two people to leave behind their individuality, and join together as one unit.
