2. INTRODUCTION
Philippines – global biodiversity hotspot
with high degrees of species richness
and endemism (Ashton, et al. 2000).
presence of extensive plant diversity –
natural habitat/ “life giver”
10,000 – 14,000 plants species
½ endemic species

3. Mindanao – highest among the 5 major
center of endemism in Philippines
(Amoroso, et.al. 2003)
Misamis Oriental covers 45,026
hectares of the total forest cover of
Region 10 – Northern Mindanao
Of the 10 highest mountains in the
Philippines, six are on the island.
(Amoroso, et.al. 2003).

4. RISKS
Continued forest desolation activities
and the alarming natural calamities
affecting today’s vegetation of plants
need immediate attention before they
are lost in the biosphere.

5. GENERAL OBJECTIVES:
To assess the species of angiosperms,
gymnosperms, pteridophytes and its allies,
and bryophytes in the three selected
areas on the municipality of
Sugbongcogon, Misamis Oriental.

6. SPECIFIC OBJECTIVES:
1. identify the different species of angiosperms,
gymnosperms, pteridophytes and its allies, and
bryophytes plants flourishing in the selected
areas;
2. compare the species evenness of each plant
species between each selected areas; and
3. ascertain the species diversity and richness of
the different plant species in the selected area.

7. SIGNIFICANCE OF THE STUDY
Studies and researches on plant
diversity in the municipality of
Sugbongcogon, Misamis Oriental is
almost nonexistent in the local and
international literature.

8. SIGNIFICANCE OF THE STUDY
A pioneering study that will provide a
checklist on the different plant species
thriving in the three selected areas.

9. SIGNIFICANCE OF THE STUDY
To determine the conservation status of
the species identified and takes in the
consideration with the prospect of
discovering rare or new species.

10. SIGNIFICANCE OF THE STUDY
Provide data to the local
government unit (LGU) in the
Sugbongcogon that will serve
as baseline information for
further research on the
protection, conservation, and
presentation of such species
