Civilization Vs Civilization Essay
The sun sets on a magnificent secluded island with rushing ocean waves, warm lagoons, exotic fruits,
and more privacy than one could imagine that is, until a plane filled with dozens of boys aged six to
twelve comes crashing down from the sky. Lord of the Flies, a novel by William Golding, starts on the
boys dream island, a place with plenty of food to eat, plenty of friends to play with, and plenty of
freedom, considering that there are no grownups for miles. The novel exhibits a theme centered
around civilization. William Golding s use of symbolism in the forms of the conch shell, the character,
Jack, and Piggy s glasses create the theme that the perfect civilization doesn t exist.
The conch, a shell used to call other members of the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The next symbol, Jack, stands for savagery. Jack started on the island as the head of a small choir and
left as the chief of a savage tribe. Jack s tribe believed that hurting and killing was a better way to
control a society rather than rules and reasoning. Jack begins to become savage when he applies a face
paint mask to successfully hunt a pig. Golding writes, He capered toward Bill, and the mask was a
thing on its own, behind which Jack hid, liberated from shame and self consciousness. (83). The face
paint allowed Jack to embody a savage hunter, his desire to kill a pig becoming an obsession, and once
he killed, he craved drawing blood from whatever and whoever he could. The fundamentals of Jack s
society rely on using force to achieve what is necessary. Robert states, I don t know. He didn t say. He
got angry and made us tie Wilfred up. He s been he giggled excitedly he s been tied for hours, waiting
(223). Tying Wilfred up shows Jack s affinity towards harming others for no reason, exemplifying a
savage mentality simply for his own benefit of being viewed as powerful. His civilization revolves
around killing and threatening, forcing the boys into the group and making them pay in their own
blood to leave. Jack represents savagery because of the way he acts: he harms others for no reason and
is far too eager to draw blood. His tribe, run by savagery, is not

Market
We can see examples of Tesco s opportunistic market entry whereby it fruitfully analyses and executes
market opportunity as in the case of its Central Europe and Asian expansion. In central Europe and
east Asia there was rapid liberalization of previous restrictions on retail and in east Asia Tesco sought
opportunity in buying up cash strapped retailers which were the casualties of the Asian economic
crisis of 1997/98.
In 10 years Tesco opened 1047 stores in South Korea accounting for 33% of the global operating
space (2. Lowe and Wrigley 2010)
The U.S market entry however, although researched heavily, execution seems to be at odds with the
strategic vision, giving rise to investor unrest and potentially 1 billion in investment loses with market
exit a distinct possibility in 2013.
Cost
The cost driver is also one of Yips (1992) key categories of consideration of international expansion. A
cash rich Tesco capitalized on cash strapped retailers in Asia acquiring major stakes in lotus in
Thailand and Homeplus in South Korea. Initially Tesco s share of partnerships was 73% in Thailand
and 81% in South Korea. Subsequent cash injections reduced CPs group share to zero and Samsung s
share from 11% to 1% while Tesco retained the Samsung name affording Tesco knowledge of local
business and regulatory conditions.
The cost implication of the U.S expansion came with a hefty price tag. A 1.2 billion 5 yr. investment
was over half of total international

Shingle Essay
Varicella (chicken pox) and Herpes Zoster (shingles) are pathologies that in a sense go hand in hand;
you can t contract shingles until you have had Chicken pox. Anyone who has had chicken pox is not
guarantee to get shingles but is at risk as shingles is a painful localized recurrence of the skin rash, it
could reactivate or remain dormant. Starting from the beginning; Varicella or chicken pox is an
infectious disease that can be characterized by an itchy skin rash. The rash usually appears a few days
after exposure and can spread throughout the entire body accompanied with fever, fatigue, and flu like
symptoms. Each rash blister will dry out and form a scab which then falls off in the course of healing.

Motherly Love In Toni Morrison s Beloved
Beloved by, Toni Morrison is a phenomenal book revolving a story of an ex slave women named
Sethe. Throughout Beloved, the audience is able to witness the idea of the trauma caused by, slavery.
Most importantly, the audience witnessed the power of motherly love and the hard decisions some
mothers have to make. Specifically, readers was able to see motherly love through the circumstances
of slavery. Especially, through the relationship between Sethe and her children. Sethe is a traumatized
ex slave and was forced to do many actions that were questionable throughout the story. However,
Sethe s actions were due to her strong motherly love. Sadly, it was due to slavery which forced her to
make questionable and harsh decisions in order for, the wellbeing of her children. Indisputably,
motherly love is different than any other love but, motherly love in the conditions of slavery is much
more unique. Throughout her time as a mother, she was forced to make choices that no typical mother
would ever do such as, killing her daughter, Beloved and attempting to kill the rest of her kids.
Despite potential critiques and her actions, Sethe s motherly love is unusual than other forms of
motherly love because of the factor of slavery but, she is still a great mother because she protects her
children, makes sacrifices for them, and whatever she does is for them.
Sethe was very committed in keeping her children safe and protecting them from any sort of harm or
anything that would be bad

Popeyes Louisiana Kitchen Franchise Case Study
Today s generation is filled with people who want to own their own businesses and be their own boss,
however, crossing an individual who intends on building their ideas from the ground up is rare
because the process absorbs time and finances. For this reason, franchises are becoming more popular
in the business world. In this system, an established business sells a portion of temporary ownership to
a franchisee, in which the franchisee must incorporate the franchisor s existing framework and
practices in exchange for a managerial role. The franchisor

European Exploration Benefits
In my opinion, the benefits of the European exploration did not outweigh its consequences. One
reason why the benefits did not outweigh the consequences is the Native American population.
Another reason the benefits did not outweigh is because of the Columbian Exchange. Columbus also
did not stand up to his promises. Those are some of the reasons why the benefits did not outweigh the
consequences. The first reason why the benefits did not outweigh the consequences is the Native
American population. The population decreased starting from 1500 1650. The population decreased
because the European people killed them with smallpox. The population of the Native Americans

Wet evidence should be air dried to prevent molding. Packages must be sealed with evidence tape, not
staples; someone could cut themselves on the staples and contaminate the evidence (National Institute
of Justice, n.d.). Evidence can be lost be storing it in the wrong materials or exposed to too much light,
heat, or bacteria (Osterburg Ward, 2010). Evidence should only be stored in clean and leak proof
containers and kept in a cool place. Evidence should be delivered to an evidence facility as soon as
possible (Osterburg Ward, 2010). Keeping evidence too long can be harmful for prosecution
(Osterburg Ward, 2010).
Chain of Evidence
According to the National Institute of Justice, the fewer people handling the evidence, the better; there
is less chance of contamination and a shorter chain of custody for court admissibility hearings (n.d.).
The chain of custody of the evidence should include a list of all persons who have had physical
possession of the evidence as well as the time period they carried the evidence, starting with the
responding officer who was in charge up to this point. The evidence should be tracked from the
responding officer s hands or medical examiner, whoever recovers the evidence, to the processing and
examination and preservation, to the presentation in court.

Coccidiosis Essay
A parasitic disease occus when the animal is affected by the prescence of a parasite. An example of
this disease is Coccidiosis is a highly contagious sporozoal infection in rabbits, with low prognosis of
healing. It is caused by a protozoal parasite, Eimeria sp. As many as 25 species of coccidia have been
observed in the gastrointestinal tract of the rabbit; it should, however, be noted that in some cases, one
and the same coccidia has been given several names. Eimeria sp. parasites are highly host, organ and
tissue specific and do rarely represent a zoonotic danger for human beings.Healthy rabbits can be
asymptomatic carriers of the protozoa. The oocysts (eggs), shed with the feces, will contaminate the

Oocysts are able to survive and remain infectious for longer than even one year. This is dependent on
the oocysts being in favourable conditions, that is to say a warm and humid environment. Some
rabbits act only as carriers of this infectious disease and present no signs or symptoms to show that
they are or have become infected. Rabbits tend to have more severe signs or symptoms as the number
of coccidian parasites within them increases. The signs and symptoms can vary depending on whether
the disease is a hepatic or an intestinal infection. Other affected rabbits can lose their appetite and lose
weight. They may also have diarrhea which will be very soft, watery, or even jelly like. Another
suggested sign is a pot bellied appearance as well as pain in the abdomen. The rabbit may become
dehydrated and present signs of weakness. Some rabbits collapse when heavily infected with the
coccidian parasites. Younger rabbits may experience stunted growth and poor coat condition. The
intestinal forms of the disease are thought to be the most dangerous to the rabbit s health as death is

What Are The Mummies Of Ancient Culture
Mummies of ancient cultures: facts before fiction For centuries, people have been fascinated with
death. Many questions are asked about what happens after we die, and these questions may forever
remain unanswered. As well as beliefs, everyone has an idea of what they wat to happen to them after
that die. You may want to be cremated and have your ashes spread across an open meadow, or you
may just want to be put in a coffin, and laid into the ground. As it was hundreds of years ago with
different beliefs, it is the same today. Different religions, different Gods, and different ways of
thinking. But how exactly are they different? When people think of ancient burial, they think back to
ancient Egyptians. And what is the reason they are remembered ... Show more content on

In the Mayan culture, one would often be buried beneath their own house! The rest of the family
would then abandon the house so they would not disturb the dead. Much mourning was held for those
who had passed. China and ancient Egypt are quite similar! The Chinese would have their favorite
foods buried with them, so they could accompany the soul in the afterlife. (Bradley) Artifacts that
belonged to the deceased would also be buried with them. But the Chinese practiced one ritual that
many other ancient cultures did not: servants and concubines be buried with the body. Even if they
were alive when the deceased had died. It was a way of claiming property. The Chinese would bury
the dead in bronze vessels. Egyptians were buried underground and, famously, the great pyramids of
Egypt. But this was mainly for the fabulously wealthy. For the more common of the Egyptians,
however, a grave was usually the final resting place. (Mark, Burial ) The Romans practiced burying
the dead during the night as to not disturb the activities of the normal city life. The tradition they used,
was that they buried the body on the outside of the city walls in order to maintain the boundary
between the living and the dead. Even when cremation was used, the ashes could not be buried within
the city. The ashes either gathered into an urn, or interred in a tomb. Romans thought that funerary
practices were so important, that they paid money monthly to make sure their funeral rites would be
performed in accordance with tradition, and their status in the community. (Mark,

Module 9 Realism
In module 4, realism was discussed as self effacing storytelling, which included a coherent
organization of space and time. Fabe suggested that realism encouraged viewers to become too
vicariously involved with fictional action, a process that, it was thought, siphoned off their
revolutionary energies (Fabe 22). In module 9, it is discussed that neorealist films tell stories that
place in the present day, focus on common, quotidian events in the lives of the poor and the working
class, while ending without a closure, poor quality black and white film stock, low budget,
documentary or newsreel look without usage of professional actors. Killer of Sheep involves both the
ideas of realism and neorealism, particularly, it adopted documentary style with black and white, no
dialogues, we only study the action of the people, mise en scene, both of them have involve long take

The Power Of Female Power In Beyoncïżœ s Song Pretty Hurts
Beyoncé is a singer known for her fantastic voice, rejuvenating dance moves, and most importantly
her empowering throughout her songs. These skills are no different in her song Pretty Hurts. Released
on June 10, 2014, from her self titled album Beyoncé, the song written by Sia, Joshua Ammo
Coleman, and Beyoncé herself resonates its empowering message with people of all different genders,
body types, and races. This song, in particular, is targeted towards women, especially young women
who are still developing. Beyoncé gained popularity when she started off in an all female group
named Destiny s Child back in 1997, and once she broke off from the group, she only continued to
grow as an artist and person. In all six of Beyoncé s solo studio albums, there are songs with
galvanizing messages of female power and all of them reached number 1 on the charts. In Beyoncé s
song Pretty Hurts, she uses social issues, rhetorical appeals such as pathos, literary devices,
metaphors, and vivid imagery to further the theme of female empowerment.
Pretty Hurts is the opening track on her self titled album, and I believe that this makes a statement
towards the contemporary feminists issues of today. There are many different social problems that the
song tackles. Beyoncé is known as a feminist, and on each of her albums some songs are about female
empowerment such as, Single Ladies, Irreplaceable, and Run the World (Girls). The theme of Pretty

Old Spice
When facing the question whether international expansion is a good idea, several considerations
should be taken into account. The assumption is that the firm main goal is to maximize the profit from
international expansion. I would recommend, as the team leader, that Old Spice will measure its target
market by the following characteristics to determine if globalization is a good idea for the firm:
1. Market size
2. Price
3. Domestic competitors and market share
4. Product demand
5. Distribution channels methods
6. Local market regulations and restrictions
In order to determine if global expansion is a good idea, we need to verify with the firm management
if there is a goal profit, which is calculated by revenues minus cost of going global. The revenue and
expenses influenced by target market main characteristics:
Relatively large market size would assist to increase revenue since the initial number of deodorant
users (potential customers) in the target market country is higher.
Before expanding we need to check the average product price for deodorants, based on local pricing in
our target markets and verify it is at least equal to the firm s home market (i.e. American winery will

The Effects Of Physical Therapy On Health Care Delivery...
A prevention program can be described as an arrangement of activities that attempt to alter a situation
from happening, reduce problems, or promote a certain outcome. Prevention programs are available
throughout the world covering many different aspects present in today s issues. Physical therapy
services have a direct connection to prevention programs in that a therapist makes an effort to treat a
condition in order for it to be avoided, reduced, or changed if at all possible whether it is an injury or
infection. As stated by the Alabama Physical Therapy Association (APTA), Physical therapists can
provide valuable contributions to the transformation of the health care delivery system by improving
health care quality and outcomes through the prevention, treatment, and management of impairments
and health care needs of patients, (Health Care 2). Preventative actions initiate restoration and
achievement of a patient s functional ability, and decreases dependency and impairments due to an
illness or disease. Preventing an illness from progressing at a rapid rate, and educating the patient to
better adapt to surroundings are also services provided. Physical therapy prevention services can be
categorized by being primary, secondary, or tertiary.
Primary prevention can be classified as a physical therapist recognizing potential risk factors in a
given population or age group, and providing therapeutic services to decrease the specific risk from
occurring. Simply put, it stops

The Problem Of Teen Suicide
Teen suicide is one of the leading causes of death among teens and a significant problem in the United
States. Consequently, suicide is a tragedy not only for that person, but also for their family and friends
that are left behind (Bell). Many teens of all races are affected by this intentional, self inflicted death.
Even though the causes of suicide can be hard to isolate, the signs can be linked to depression, drug
abuse, emotional neglect of their parents, bullying, parents divorcing, sexual and domestic abuse.
Sadness, feelings of lack of worthiness, uninterested in activities are all signs of depression.
Depression is a mood disorder and it is one of the most common signs that lead to suicide. Teenagers
let problems take over their live. If this mental disorder is identified in the early stages, professional
guidance may solve the problem (Bell). Time is the main factor for depression. Emotional distress is
usually what the teenager feels before attempting or completing the act. The only way their behavior
will improve is through professional help. Emotional neglect of parents can affect teens in a way that
is hard to believe. Parents are busy with their lives and sometimes forget about their children s
emotional needs. Therefore, the child feels their existence no longer matters (Bell). Divorce is another
catalyst in teen suicide. Teens that are in a middle of a divorce tend to blame themselves for their
parents break up. Feelings of abandonment takes over and

Throughout the history of America s pastime, baseball has continually battled scandals and
controversies. From the 1919 Black Sox scandal to the current steroid debate, baseball has lived in a
century of turmoil. While many of these scandals affected multiple players and brought shame to
teams, none have affected a single player more than the 1980 s Pete Rose betting scandal. Aside from
the public humiliation he brought his family and the Cincinnati Reds, nothing has done more to hurt
Pete Rose than his lifetime ban from baseball making him ineligible for hall of fame. While many are

After retiring entirely from baseball both as a manager and as a player, Pete Rose was believed to have
placed bets on multiple baseball games including his Cincinnati Reds. After investigations by Major
League Baseball and the lawyer John M. Dowd, they were able to discover that Rose had bet on
multiple Reds games, but were unable to discover whether Rose had ever bet against the Reds, like the
Black Sox scandal. With the Commissioner of baseball, Bart Giamatti, pushing the case to the federal
level, Rose and Giamatti came to an agreement which included Rose s lifetime ban from baseball.
During his lifetime ban, Rose came clean stating that he did bet on the Reds in his autobiography in
2004. Currently, Pete Rose continues to serve his lifetime ban, hoping to one day manage another
team and enter the hall of fame. Knowing that Pete Rose continues his ban from baseball, we can
begin by looking at the ethical theories which agree with keeping Rose out of the hall of fame.
Egoism, the idea of acting in manner which is best for me, is a theory which does not lead Rose to the
hall of fame. With Egoism we have to look at what is best for the party in charge and which decision
will lead to the best outcome. With the Pete Rose case we have two parties whose ethical decisions
can be evaluated, MLB and Pete Rose. Clearly Pete Rose can be ignored in the egoistic analysis, since

more ingenious in thinking up unexpected and clever examples; but it turned out that the
inconsistencies were not there; and often their resolution could be found in earlier work of Einstein
himself. When that did not work, after repeated efforts, Einstein had simply to say that he did not like
the theory. He did not like the elements of indeterminacy. He did not like the abandonment of
continuity or of causality. (Oppenheimer, Robert)
He summed up his scientific career by saying The real goal of my research has always been the

My Writing Of A College Level Writing Course
At the beginning of the term, I came into this class not feeling very confident about my writing. I had
taken writing classes in the past, but none to the extent of a college level writing course. One of the
skills that I found I lacked the most was my vocabulary. While my writing structure was often not a
problem my writing did not sound as sophisticated as it could be. I occasionally used a thesaurus but
this would often cause problems as sometimes the words would not quite agree with the meaning of
my sentence. Throughout the term the one thing that helped me the most with this problem were the
workshops. As my peers corrected my paper they helped me to come up with more intelligent words
to get my point across to the reader. I believe that without the inclusion of these workshops my essays
would not have been as cleanly written. For upcoming classes one aspect of writing that I would like
to focus on is my ability to stay on topic. A lot of the time I tend to become so engulfed in one
reasoning for my argument that my mind begins to wander elsewhere. Ultimately my essay structure
will suffer because of this, so in order to stay more focused I want to start making outlines before I
write out my essays. With an outline it will be easier for me to stay on topic since I will have a
structure to follow. Also by having an outline I can find my quotes and compose my topic sentences
ahead of time, making it easier for me to see if my ideas will fit well together. This will also

The store management is decentralized, allowing individual store managers more power in decision
making, as they were expected to come up with their own methods for cutting prices and increasing
sales. This is done differently in the competitors stores, where policies are brought in regional offices.
Superior personal customer service offered at the stores from 9am to 9pm six days a week, with
shorter working hours on Sundays (Supercentres were open continuously) together with specialized
employee training provided customers with an atmosphere in which they were happy to spend their
time and money.
Marketing
Wal Mart s slogan Everyday Low Prices is the milestone of their communication with the public as
well as their basic business principle. The corporation mainly used word of mouth advertising and
spent a lot less on marketing than the industry competitors. A strong emphasis was put on patriotism
and national causes, when it comes to the U.S. market.
Information Technology
Wal Mart s advanced data mining tools allow them to fine tune and improve customer responsiveness,
giving customers what and when they want in offer. It can be compared to

Theme Of The Lamb To The Slaughter By Roald Dahl
Roald Dahl has successfully presented creepy moments and ideas in his writing by the very
uncommon, but realistic scenarios the characters are put in, word choice, and character development.
The author gives very little background information at the beginning of the story causing the reader to
be surprised with how the characters develop throughout the story. One way the author has presented
scary ideas was by putting the characters in scenarios that are possible to happen to anyone, yet they
are very unlikely. In The Landlady, the main character is your average businessman just looking for a
place to stay for the night in a town he s not familiar with. He decides to stay in a bed and breakfast
ran by an old lady who keeps her guests ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
She was just going home with the vegetables on Thursday evening to cook dinner for her husband.
The reader knows the real story, in which that one is not true. This is creepy because now there is
suspense toward whether or not she is going to get away with the story she tells everyone.
Comparatively, the author presents menacing and fearsome ideas by character development. In The
Landlady, the woman presents herself and a very pleasurable, harmless soul. The text says, ..she gave
him a warm welcoming smile. Toward the end, she keeps that eerie smile, but she starts to give hints
letting him know that she s going to kill him. Throughout the story she mentions Mr Mulholland and
Mr Perkins staying in her bed and breakfast. The text says, .. she looked up at him out of the corners
of her eyes and gave him another gentle little smile. No, my dear, she said Only you. The way this
developed in a creepy way was because she was giving vague answers, making it seem like the two
men she killed, were alive and in their rooms. In Lamb to the Slaughter, the main character is six
months pregnant and married. When the police come to search for evidence, they eat it. The police
were unforeseeable, assuming the lady who offered them to stay for dinner, wouldn t be a suspect of
killing the man who is pregnant with her child. This is scary because not only is there a killer on the
loose, but they will never find out it was her because there is no evidence due

Arabian Nights Argumentative Essay
The Arabian Nights is renowned for its multiple uses of enframed narratives. The layering of stories
adds new meaning to the various tales of The Arabian Nights by bringing up new questions. In every
story one reads, one finds themselves asking why Shahrazad would tell such a story, what kind of
message is this tale giving Shahriar, and why bother telling another story within an already enframed
story. However, The Arabian Nights is not alone in its use of the enframed story. Works inspired by

The common ransom story does a wonderful job of lateral comparisons by bringing stories with
similar motifs, plots, and themes together. The Merchant and The Jinni produces this effect. The story
starts with a merchant who accidentally kills a Jinni by throwing a date seed (The Arabian Nights 1:
10 19). The Jinni s father appears declaring that he will kill the merchant. Through a series of events,
three groups of travelers show up, and each traveler decides to exchange a third of the merchant s
punishment for a story. The travelers introduction starts drawing comparisons between these travelers
right away because they are all traveling with animals. As each traveler tells their story, one cannot
help drawing more comparisons as each story is about a failed romance which is dealt with in some
other way than violence, normally turning the guilty party into an animal (The Arabian Nights 1: 10
19). The repetition of a nonviolent resolution to romantic conflict ends up making a lateral comparison
about the nature of conflict resolution. In particular, the stories take on additional meaning as a tool to
help Shahriar understand there are a variety of ways to deal with romantic issues that do not involve
murdering virgins (The Arabian Nights 1: 3 10). By using enframed stories as a means of comparison,
The Arabian Nights adds extra depth and meaning to stories in light of the outer narrative and the
surrounding stories in order to produce a far more complex understanding of any one theme or

Charlotte was supposed to host the All Star Game during the 2017 season, but limitations on the
bathroom rights for transgender individuals caused the league to move the game to New Orleans.
While Silver would love to host the game in Charlotte, he does not plan on having the game playing in
North Carolina until this law is repealed. Silver also discussed travel bans created by President Trump,
as the NBA contains many international players. This article relates to the Invisible Man because it
discusses looking past differences to create unity. A major theme of Invisible Man is individuality and
being the unique individual a person is. An example of this is shown when the narrator eats yams, as
he does not allow society and its views of him eating yams to impact his decisions. Likewise, the NBA
looks for individuality and uniqueness from fans of the league and players in the league. Likewise,
Commissioner Silver s discussion of returning to Charlotte reflects the change in a society s views,
which is similar to the change in society the narrator is hoping

Women and gender In 20th Century America
Abstract
Paid work for women moved from principally customary female situated employments to all the more
non conventional and already male arranged vocations. Ladies support in the workforce prompted
them to start careers in the field dominated by male in the 20th century. Career yearnings were
affected by elements, such as sexual orientation, financial status, race, occupation and instruction
level, and parental desires. This paper exhibits how women developed, changed and the challenges
they faced in the 20th century in America in the workforce and the advancement of ladies careers,
improvement and profession goals during the 20th century in United States. Also, gender issues
affecting women will be discussed in details during this period and how women played their role in
fighting for their rights.
Thesis Statement
Ladies legislative issues in the 20th Century came to past self characterized women s activists, as
conventional ladies associations handled issues of important to ladies regular lives. An examination of
the positions and moves on welfare change made the researchers and feminist through Voters and the
National Organization for Women in the middle of 1970s difficulties the suspicion that all white collar
class women disregarded the issues of poor ladies and highlights a discriminating defining moment in
American progressivism. The League s activism uncovers the profundity and

Rolling Wheels Case Study
Rolling wheels
The whole industry of cars being advertized to the public by toys, games, shows and so on, have
always had this target to consumers (parents) to buy these toys most specifically to their male kids and
young adult. This matter gives a social idea that male children had to interact with manly like toys that
gave the children there gender role of being a male begging or stating the stage of what your suppose
to like as you grow up because of your sex. Respectively being a child, seeing a toy car was something
you naturally approached to and were not told nothing if you played with it unless you for some
chance tried to play with a doll or play house and were told not to by a parent. There response for
restricting you to these other toys was most likely because that s for girls to play I never wondered
why there was such restrictions between girl and boy toys; I just knew I had to stick to cars. In my
case I may have gotten a response like this in my childhood one day after school playing with the
apartment neighbors, girl from school, on the stairwell playing with her toy horse and doll when my
mother came out and told me not to play with that to instead bring one of my toys out to play. Toy cars
have been in throughout my whole life and have inspired me to pursue a career on what I have come
to love most which all started with a toy car I got as a present as a child.
The first most significant toy car I got as a child was a new bright remote 1:6

Internet Predators Essay
Internet Predators
In recent years, the Internet has become the number one choice for doing research. A person can find
information on just about anything. There are websites devoted to cooking recipes, musicians, schools,
and pornography. Many schools will even allow students to apply for admission over the Internet.
Schools such as California State University, Northridge give students an option to register for classes
through the school website, making it quick and easy to get classes. The Internet is truly the
information superhighway.
Not everyone who accesses the Internet uses it for research. Many people, especially young people use

Yet, the reality is that a woman may be talking to someone who is on parole for sexual abuse. There is
absolutely no way to know whether or not someone is lying about their identity. I personally have
always chatted on the Internet with skepticism. There are precautions one can take to prevent getting
in trouble on the Internet. Some general rules one should follow include not giving out one s phone
number, not giving out a picture of one s self, and not meeting anyone in person that one met on the
Internet. Giving out a person s picture is one of the most common errors on the Internet. It never
seizes to amaze me that the first question out of someone s mouth when they send me an instant
message is if I have a picture. Although I do, I say no, unless it is someone that I positively know.
Upon receiving someone else s picture, I often wonder if that is what the person really looks like. The
world is full of dishonesty; it does not surprise me that some people use another person s picture.
People have been known to pretend to be someone they are not while chatting. I admit that I have
pretended to be someone else when I was really bored. I have pretended to be older than I am, I have
pretended to be someone of the opposite sex, and I have pretended to be a very aggressive, outgoing
person. I happen to be a person who is too passive most of the time.
People who pretend to be someone else are what make the Internet so dangerous.

Benokraitis. (2012). SOC.(pg. 14). Belmont,CA. Linda Schreiber Ganster Karl Marx thought that
conflict would be the effect of inequality in the economy. He got this from the idea of capitalism,
where he saw industrial society composed of three social classes. The first class would be the
Capitalists, which are the owners of factories or basically anyone who owns a company that produces
a lot of wealth. The next class would be the petit bourgeoisie, which are below the capitalists. They
own their own company but can be driven out by the capitalists so they might end up as the next social
class. The proletariat. They re basically the working class and who survive on their wages. Conflict
within these classes are mainly because the capitalists would have so much money and the workers
would barely be making by. So the proletariats would rise up and there would be a revolution. It
related to this time period because it was a bit after the industrial revolution and that was what Karl
Marx was really focusing on. Nijole V. Benokraitis. (2012). SOC.(pages 14 15) Belmont,CA. Linda

Glia Function
Glia was know just to be support cells, but scientist have discovered that they serve a bigger purpose
in the function of the nervous system. Three major categories of glia are: astroglia, oligodendroglia,
and microglia.
Neurons contains a fluid known as extracellular fluid which also contains charged particles called
ions. (can be + or ) Ions are located in cytoplasm, which gives neurons an electrical charge when a
neuron is not sending a message, known as the resting potential ( ).
Ion channels only allow certain ions in and out of the cell and can open or close depending on input
received from other neurons. When positively charged information (excitatory) is received from other
neurons it is called the action potential, during this phase sodium is allowed through the ion ... Show

How is the Nervous System Organized?
Nervous system has two main parts: the central nervous system, which contains the brain and spinal
cord, and the peripheral nervous system, which contains the nerves throughout our body that send
input back and forth between the periphery and the central nervous system.
The peripheral nervous system is made up of two other systems known as the somatic and the
autonomic systems. The somatic nervous system controls all the nerves in our body that respond to
sensory information (touch and pain) and transmits all the information to the brain and spinal cord,
with the help of the central nervous system. The autonomic nervous system is also made up of two
parts: the sympathetic and parasympathetic nervous systems. The only thing they have in common is
that both these systems have nerve cells and axons distributed throughout the body. The sympathetic
system is active during stress, it is also responsible for the fight or flight reaction that allows us to
respond to life threatening scenarios. The parasympathetic system is active during the restful times
and it is responsible for controlling our everyday functions when we are not necessarily at

Philips, The Largest European Light Bulb Producers
In Holland, Gerard Philips started a light bulb factory with his father in 1892. Later, Gerard s brother,
Anton, joined them adding his experience in sales and management. The Philips family run business
eventually grew to be one of the largest European light bulb producers. In Japan, 23 year old
Konosuke Matsushita started producing double ended sockets in 1918. Matsushita quickly expanded
his company by adding new products. By the company s 40th year they had over 5,000 different
products and owned 40% of the Japanese appliance stores. How did Philips become the leading
consumer electronics company in the world in the postwar era? What distinctive competence did they
build? What distinctive incompetencies? When Philips was founded in 1892, their strategy was to
focus strictly on producing and selling light bulbs. By investing in new production technology to
manufacture their light bulbs, Philips became a leader in industrial research. Research in Gerard
Philips opinion was vital to implementing new procedures, innovation, and improving production. At
this time, Philips was using the home replication strategy. This strategy is used when a company does
not see any reason to adjust their domestic strategy as they enter international markets. Around 1918,
Philips began expanding its product line which made it more difficult to implement the home
replication strategy. During the late 1930s, when the war was about to begin, Philips moved around its

  • 2. Civilization Vs Civilization Essay The sun sets on a magnificent secluded island with rushing ocean waves, warm lagoons, exotic fruits, and more privacy than one could imagine that is, until a plane filled with dozens of boys aged six to twelve comes crashing down from the sky. Lord of the Flies, a novel by William Golding, starts on the boys dream island, a place with plenty of food to eat, plenty of friends to play with, and plenty of freedom, considering that there are no grownups for miles. The novel exhibits a theme centered around civilization. William Golding s use of symbolism in the forms of the conch shell, the character, Jack, and Piggy s glasses create the theme that the perfect civilization doesn t exist. The conch, a shell used to call other members of the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The next symbol, Jack, stands for savagery. Jack started on the island as the head of a small choir and left as the chief of a savage tribe. Jack s tribe believed that hurting and killing was a better way to control a society rather than rules and reasoning. Jack begins to become savage when he applies a face paint mask to successfully hunt a pig. Golding writes, He capered toward Bill, and the mask was a thing on its own, behind which Jack hid, liberated from shame and self consciousness. (83). The face paint allowed Jack to embody a savage hunter, his desire to kill a pig becoming an obsession, and once he killed, he craved drawing blood from whatever and whoever he could. The fundamentals of Jack s society rely on using force to achieve what is necessary. Robert states, I don t know. He didn t say. He got angry and made us tie Wilfred up. He s been he giggled excitedly he s been tied for hours, waiting (223). Tying Wilfred up shows Jack s affinity towards harming others for no reason, exemplifying a savage mentality simply for his own benefit of being viewed as powerful. His civilization revolves around killing and threatening, forcing the boys into the group and making them pay in their own blood to leave. Jack represents savagery because of the way he acts: he harms others for no reason and is far too eager to draw blood. His tribe, run by savagery, is not ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Market We can see examples of Tesco s opportunistic market entry whereby it fruitfully analyses and executes market opportunity as in the case of its Central Europe and Asian expansion. In central Europe and east Asia there was rapid liberalization of previous restrictions on retail and in east Asia Tesco sought opportunity in buying up cash strapped retailers which were the casualties of the Asian economic crisis of 1997/98. In 10 years Tesco opened 1047 stores in South Korea accounting for 33% of the global operating space (2. Lowe and Wrigley 2010) The U.S market entry however, although researched heavily, execution seems to be at odds with the strategic vision, giving rise to investor unrest and potentially 1 billion in investment loses with market exit a distinct possibility in 2013. Cost The cost driver is also one of Yips (1992) key categories of consideration of international expansion. A cash rich Tesco capitalized on cash strapped retailers in Asia acquiring major stakes in lotus in Thailand and Homeplus in South Korea. Initially Tesco s share of partnerships was 73% in Thailand and 81% in South Korea. Subsequent cash injections reduced CPs group share to zero and Samsung s share from 11% to 1% while Tesco retained the Samsung name affording Tesco knowledge of local business and regulatory conditions. In the Mayan culture, one would often be buried beneath their own house! The rest of the family would then abandon the house so they would not disturb the dead. Much mourning was held for those who had passed. China and ancient Egypt are quite similar! The Chinese would have their favorite foods buried with them, so they could accompany the soul in the afterlife. (Bradley) Artifacts that belonged to the deceased would also be buried with them. But the Chinese practiced one ritual that many other ancient cultures did not: servants and concubines be buried with the body. Even if they were alive when the deceased had died. It was a way of claiming property. The Chinese would bury the dead in bronze vessels. Egyptians were buried underground and, famously, the great pyramids of Egypt. But this was mainly for the fabulously wealthy. For the more common of the Egyptians, however, a grave was usually the final resting place. (Mark, Burial ) The Romans practiced burying the dead during the night as to not disturb the activities of the normal city life. The tradition they used, was that they buried the body on the outside of the city walls in order to maintain the boundary between the living and the dead. Even when cremation was used, the ashes could not be buried within the city. The ashes either gathered into an urn, or interred in a tomb. Romans thought that funerary practices were so important, that they paid money monthly to make sure their funeral rites would be performed in accordance with tradition, and their status in the community. Fabe suggested that realism encouraged viewers to become too vicariously involved with fictional action, a process that, it was thought, siphoned off their revolutionary energies (Fabe 22). In module 9, it is discussed that neorealist films tell stories that place in the present day, focus on common, quotidian events in the lives of the poor and the working class, while ending without a closure, poor quality black and white film stock, low budget, documentary or newsreel look without usage of professional actors. This song, in particular, is targeted towards women, especially young women who are still developing. BeyoncĂ© gained popularity when she started off in an all female group named Destiny s Child back in 1997, and once she broke off from the group, she only continued to grow as an artist and person. I would recommend, as the team leader, that Old Spice will measure its target market by the following characteristics to determine if globalization is a good idea for the firm: 1. Market size 2. Price 3. Domestic competitors and market share 4. Product demand 5. Distribution channels methods 6. Local market regulations and restrictions In order to determine if global expansion is a good idea, we need to verify with the firm management if there is a goal profit, which is calculated by revenues minus cost of going global. The revenue and expenses influenced by target market main characteristics: Relatively large market size would assist to increase revenue since the initial number of deodorant users (potential customers) in the target market country is higher. Before expanding we need to check the average product price for deodorants, based on local pricing in our target markets and verify it is at least equal to the firm s home market (i.e. American winery will not expand its sales to Italy, where the wine arise as cheap as water). ... • 16. The Effects Of Physical Therapy On Health Care Delivery... A prevention program can be described as an arrangement of activities that attempt to alter a situation from happening, reduce problems, or promote a certain outcome. Prevention programs are available throughout the world covering many different aspects present in today s issues. Physical therapy services have a direct connection to prevention programs in that a therapist makes an effort to treat a condition in order for it to be avoided, reduced, or changed if at all possible whether it is an injury or infection. As stated by the Alabama Physical Therapy Association (APTA), Physical therapists can provide valuable contributions to the transformation of the health care delivery system by improving health care quality and outcomes through the prevention, treatment, and management of impairments and health care needs of patients, (Health Care 2). Preventative actions initiate restoration and achievement of a patient s functional ability, and decreases dependency and impairments due to an illness or disease. Preventing an illness from progressing at a rapid rate, and educating the patient to better adapt to surroundings are also services provided. • 17. The Problem Of Teen Suicide Teen suicide is one of the leading causes of death among teens and a significant problem in the United States. Consequently, suicide is a tragedy not only for that person, but also for their family and friends that are left behind (Bell). Many teens of all races are affected by this intentional, self inflicted death. Even though the causes of suicide can be hard to isolate, the signs can be linked to depression, drug abuse, emotional neglect of their parents, bullying, parents divorcing, sexual and domestic abuse. Sadness, feelings of lack of worthiness, uninterested in activities are all signs of depression. Depression is a mood disorder and it is one of the most common signs that lead to suicide. Teenagers let problems take over their live. If this mental disorder is identified in the early stages, professional guidance may solve the problem (Bell). Time is the main factor for depression. Emotional distress is usually what the teenager feels before attempting or completing the act. The only way their behavior will improve is through professional help. Emotional neglect of parents can affect teens in a way that is hard to believe. Parents are busy with their lives and sometimes forget about their children s emotional needs. Therefore, the child feels their existence no longer matters (Bell). Divorce is another catalyst in teen suicide. Percussion was my cup of tea because I know that I could nail it by reading and memorizing the music more often. It took me days to memorize my music for the half time performances, especially for the parades. Meanwhile at the football field for the first time ever, I begin to think that maybe it did not turn out to be bad after all. For the rest of the football season during half time, I finally got the hang of it. Marching fundamentals was quite a bit confusing. From the 1919 Black Sox scandal to the current steroid debate, baseball has lived in a century of turmoil. While many of these scandals affected multiple players and brought shame to teams, none have affected a single player more than the 1980 s Pete Rose betting scandal. Aside from the public humiliation he brought his family and the Cincinnati Reds, nothing has done more to hurt Pete Rose than his lifetime ban from baseball making him ineligible for hall of fame. While many are for and against putting Pete Rose in the hall of fame, the four ethical theories, Kantianism, Utilitarianism, Egoism, and Ethical Realism, each have their ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... After retiring entirely from baseball both as a manager and as a player, Pete Rose was believed to have placed bets on multiple baseball games including his Cincinnati Reds. After investigations by Major League Baseball and the lawyer John M. Dowd, they were able to discover that Rose had bet on multiple Reds games, but were unable to discover whether Rose had ever bet against the Reds, like the Black Sox scandal. With the Commissioner of baseball, Bart Giamatti, pushing the case to the federal level, Rose and Giamatti came to an agreement which included Rose s lifetime ban from baseball. During his lifetime ban, Rose came clean stating that he did bet on the Reds in his autobiography in 2004. Currently, Pete Rose continues to serve his lifetime ban, hoping to one day manage another team and enter the hall of fame. Knowing that Pete Rose continues his ban from baseball, we can begin by looking at the ethical theories which agree with keeping Rose out of the hall of fame. Egoism, the idea of acting in manner which is best for me, is a theory which does not lead Rose to the hall of fame. With Egoism we have to look at what is best for the party in charge and which decision will lead to the best outcome. With the Pete Rose case we have two parties whose ethical decisions can be evaluated, MLB and Pete Rose. Clearly Pete Rose can be ignored in the egoistic analysis, since the decision to place him in the hall of fame ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

No one could have been more ingenious in thinking up unexpected and clever examples; but it turned out that the inconsistencies were not there; and often their resolution could be found in earlier work of Einstein himself. When that did not work, after repeated efforts, Einstein had simply to say that he did not like the theory. He did not like the elements of indeterminacy. He did not like the abandonment of continuity or of causality. (Oppenheimer, Robert) He summed up his scientific career by saying The real goal of my research has always been the simplification of and unification of the systems of theoretical physics ( Einstein). Einstein did not like to conform to the ideas of others and so was always different and alone in his thoughts. His scientific work has allowed for a much broader understanding of how the world works and made some very useful inventions possible. Albert Einstein s scientific theories accelerated the development of the world like never before and he gave scientists the tools to mold almost every observable aspect of life as we live today. • 21. My Writing Of A College Level Writing Course At the beginning of the term, I came into this class not feeling very confident about my writing. I had taken writing classes in the past, but none to the extent of a college level writing course. One of the skills that I found I lacked the most was my vocabulary. While my writing structure was often not a problem my writing did not sound as sophisticated as it could be. I occasionally used a thesaurus but this would often cause problems as sometimes the words would not quite agree with the meaning of my sentence. Throughout the term the one thing that helped me the most with this problem were the workshops. As my peers corrected my paper they helped me to come up with more intelligent words to get my point across to the reader. I believe that without the inclusion of these workshops my essays would not have been as cleanly written. For upcoming classes one aspect of writing that I would like to focus on is my ability to stay on topic. A lot of the time I tend to become so engulfed in one reasoning for my argument that my mind begins to wander elsewhere. Ultimately my essay structure will suffer because of this, so in order to stay more focused I want to start making outlines before I write out my essays. With an outline it will be easier for me to stay on topic since I will have a structure to follow. Also by having an outline I can find my quotes and compose my topic sentences ahead of time, making it easier for me to see if my ideas will fit well together. This will also ... Theme Of The Lamb To The Slaughter By Roald Dahl Roald Dahl has successfully presented creepy moments and ideas in his writing by the very uncommon, but realistic scenarios the characters are put in, word choice, and character development. The author gives very little background information at the beginning of the story causing the reader to be surprised with how the characters develop throughout the story. One way the author has presented scary ideas was by putting the characters in scenarios that are possible to happen to anyone, yet they are very unlikely. The text says, ..she gave him a warm welcoming smile. Toward the end, she keeps that eerie smile, but she starts to give hints letting him know that she s going to kill him. In Lamb to the Slaughter, the main character is six months pregnant and married. When the police come to search for evidence, they eat it. The common ransom story does a wonderful job of lateral comparisons by bringing stories with similar motifs, plots, and themes together. The Merchant and The Jinni produces this effect. The story starts with a merchant who accidentally kills a Jinni by throwing a date seed (The Arabian Nights 1: 10 19). The Jinni s father appears declaring that he will kill the merchant. Through a series of events, three groups of travelers show up, and each traveler decides to exchange a third of the merchant s punishment for a story. The travelers introduction starts drawing comparisons between these travelers right away because they are all traveling with animals. As each traveler tells their story, one cannot help drawing more comparisons as each story is about a failed romance which is dealt with in some other way than violence, normally turning the guilty party into an animal (The Arabian Nights 1: 10 19). The repetition of a nonviolent resolution to romantic conflict ends up making a lateral comparison about the nature of conflict resolution. In particular, the stories take on additional meaning as a tool to help Shahriar understand there are a variety of ways to deal with romantic issues that do not involve murdering virgins (The Arabian Nights 1: 3 10).
