Waymo Essay
Google company, Waymo, an autonomous vehicle division of Alphabet, has achieved an important
innovative. Members of Phoenix Arizona Easy Rider Program are now able to register to go for a ride
in the self driving minivan for free. Anyone interested can register, however riders will be selected by
the type of trips needed and the inclination to use the self driving vehicle as their primary means of
transportation. The self driving minivan are being driven without a driver behind the wheel, however,
an employee will ride behind the driver s seat. The car is equipped with fully autonomy; sensors that
can see around the world, lasers that can see objects in 3D for up to 300 meters. It also has short range
lasers for closer views and radars for seeing beneath and around vehicles for tracking moving objects.
Waymo has teamed up with Flat Chrysler, Lyft (Andrew Hawkins. 2017). AI in the gaming world is

The United States Of America Fought For Independence
The United States of America fought for independence in 1775 until 1783. After the war, the newly
independent Americans needed a new government. The Continental Congress, after years of debate
and drafting, decided to adopt the Articles of Confederation in 1781. The first draft was proposed in
1775, but never acted upon. Many drafts were proposed, six, to be exact, and in 1777 it was given to
the states for approval. Maryland was the last to ratify it, given to concerns of lands to the west. After
this was settled, they approved and the Articles of Confederation went into effect on March 1, 1781 (
Articles of Confederation. ). However, none of these six drafts compared to the document of the U.S.
Constitution in 1787. This document changes the union from a loose group of friendly states allowed
to attend to almost all affairs, to states united under a federal government. Not all of the founding
fathers thought that this document was good, though. The debates were between two parties, the
federalists and the anti federalists. The anti federalists thought that the constitution gave the federal
government too much power. Despite these fears, the constitution was ratified. To this day government
officials argue about legitimacy of laws and whether the federal government or the states have the
right to pass the laws in question. All throughout the time that the United States has operated under the
constitution, it has been a fight between views of centralism and

Discrimination And Discrimination Of The United States Essay
For a long time, equality in the United States was just a figment of some hopeful people s
imaginations, and an impractical idea from their reality. There was separation in schools, restaurants,
and even workplaces. Along with separation there was racism and discrimination everywhere.
Discrimination is the act of denying rights, benefits, justice, equitable treatment, or access to facilities
available to all others, to an individual or group of people because of their race, age, gender, handicap
or other defining characteristic. (Your Dictionary). President John F. Kennedy issued Executive Order
10925 on March 6, 1961, which was the first reference to a term known as affirmative action . This
order led to the creation of the Committee on Equal Employment Opportunity, which requires that any
projects that are federally funded must take affirmative action to ensure that their workplaces are free
of racial bias in the practices of employment and hiring. The Equal Employment Opportunity
Commission, or EEOC, is a branch of federal government that followed the Civil Rights Act of 1964,
and its main purpose was to construe and impose federal laws that deal with preventing
discrimination. To achieve these goals, the EEOC holds hearings, administers equal employment
opportunity laws for employees of the federal government, issues regulations interpreting the law, and
litigates discrimination cases, among other things. The EEOC also accepts charges of discrimination

Investigating The Amount Of Calcium On The Calcium Oxide...
Discussion:
The purpose of this lab was to calculate the amount of calcium in Kirkland Signature s Calcium
600mg +D3 through the processes of vacuum filtration and acid base titration. These two methods
were effective in determining the amount of calcium in the calcium supplement with an error of +/
0.05 g; the amount of calcium stated on the label was 600 mg. The reactions that occurred during the
process of vacuum filtration were:
CaCO3 (s) + 2HCl(aq) → CaCl2 (aq) +CO2 (g) + H2O(l)
CaCl2(aq) + Na2CO3(aq) → CaCO3(s) +2NaCl(aq)
The amounts of calcium calculated from the two trials of vacuum filtration were 0.554 g and 0.573 g
respectively. The calculations from the trials are shown in Equation 2 and Equation 3. The results from
the vacuum filtration were very close to the amount stated on the bottle. The small deviation from the
original could be the result of inadequately removing all of the ground powder from the mortar and
pestle. This caused the original mass of the supplement to be less than what was expected, hence the
smaller final amount. There was a small difference in the procedures between the two trials of vacuum
filtration. During the second trial, more care and attention was given to make sure that the entire
calcium supplement was transferred from the mortar and pestle to the 250 mL Erlenmeyer flask.
Because more care was given, the calculated amount of calcium increased by 0.019 g.
The other method used in this lab was an acid base titration. The

Reflection About Communication Technology
The Communications Technology course serves as a base to introduce a student to the photography as
well as the Communication Technology aspect of the field. Over this semester, I am content with what
I have learned are improved upon. When entering the class on this first day, I did not know what I was
going to expect. I thought this course was all about photography as it is mainly known as photography
; but after a brief introduction by Mr. Oseivhi, I learned that there is much more components to it. This
course focused on every little basic detail you absolutely need to know before entering the
Communication Technology industry. The company project where we were asked to make up a
business and develop a business card, letterhead, video and logo made me realized that it isn t easy to
work together. You really need to be patient and corporate with others instead of giving up. When my
team mates weren t being respectful and doing the work they were assigned, it got me frustrated and
infuriated. I preferred working by myself and as a result separated myself from them and worked
individually. But once Mr. Oseivhi made us realize that situations like these will mostly likely occur in
our future jobs we needed to learn how to adapt to others circumstances and work as a team. So
therefore, that did happen and at the end we got what we accomplished and as well as learned a
valuable lesson. When using all these new software s for the first time, I was shocked at how easy I
was able

The Revenge Tragedy Of Hamlet Essay
Issara Butt
Professor Abbott
English 102
November 30, 2016
The Revenge Tragedy of Hamlet Revenge tragedies share some common characteristics of the play
Hamlet which classify them in the group of many great stories such as The Spanish Tragedy, and King
Lear. A vengeful ghost, a play within a play, and the main character who seeks revenge on an
opponent and murdered (KAY). At some point in life many of us feel the need to seek revenge and
never actually act upon it, but what if we did? What would be the consequences and what would life
be like afterwards. The thoughts we have of this makes the stories of revenge tragedies exciting and
intriguing. They are our thoughts written on paper and into a story making as if what we think is
actually happening. In the time of Shakespearean writing, things would have gone slightly different.
The play Hamlet, is a prime example of a revenge tragedy in its refined state of written speech.
Hamlet is a revenge tragedy for many reasons, not only that but it is the most written, re enacted, and
read play of all time (TUMIEL). The multiple plots of revenge, murders, and ghost appearances makes
Hamlet the leading play of revenge tragedies and most studied currently in academic curriculums. It is
believed to be that William Shakespeare s Hamlet was based off of Thomas Kyd s story, Ur Hamlet
(MABILLARD). Although Ur Hamlet was a rough and uncut version of a revenge tragedy and needed
further developing, but Shakespeare s Hamlet is well refined,

The Pursuit Of A Happy Life Essay
It is common sense that all the human beings would like to live a happy life and they will spare no
efforts in order to realize the purpose of really living a happy life in the end. However, different people
have different definitions toward what a happy life is and they tend to have different standards as for
how a life is that can be regarded as a happy life. There is no doubt that people will then try different
means in order to pursue a happy life based on their definition toward what a happy life is. Therefore,
the following will talk about the pursuit of a happy life from the perspectives of both Dalai Lama in
The Art of Happiness and Viktor E. Frankl in Man s Searching for Meaning, during which the
experiences of some characters from the film Forrest Gump will be applied as evidence. Generally
speaking, the pursuit of a happy life in the minds of Dalai Lama and Viktor E. Frankl can be achieved
via experiencing sufferings and adversity. It is hoped that this analysis can help people understand
what a happy is from a different point of view.
The Pursuit of a Happy Life
First and foremost comes Dalai Lama s idea toward how to pursue a happy life. In Chapter 8 of The
Art of Happiness, Facing Suffering, Dalai Lama argues that suffering is an inherent part of human life,
and that accepting that suffering is both natural and unavoidable will help us to tolerate adversity and
eventually work to remove the causes of suffering: Our attitude towards suffering becomes very

Art, the Individual and Society
HUMANITIES I
Art, The Individual and Society
A Term Paper
13 October 2011
I. INTRODUCTION Art has been around for thousands of years. In fact, different types of craft can be
traced back to prehistoric times when Neanderthal men started painting on the walls of the cave.
Throughout the centuries, art has evolved to several forms among which are sculpting, painting, and
even poetry. Art is the product or process of deliberately arranging items in a way that influences and
affects one or more of the senses, emotions, and intellect. It encompasses a diverse range of human
activities, creations, and modes of expression, including music, literature, film, photography,
sculpture, and paintings. The ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

old. Archaeologists have also found a fragment of rock painting preserved in a limestone rock shelter
in the Kimberley region of North Western Australia, that is dated 40 000 years old. There are examples
of cave paintings all over the world in India, France, Spain, Portugal, China, Australia, etc. In Western
cultures oil painting and watercolor painting have rich and complex traditions in style and subject
matter. In the East, ink and color ink historically predominated the choice of media with equally rich
and complex traditions. Modern and Contemporary Art has moved away from the historic value of
craft and documentation in favour of concept; this led some to say in the 1960s that painting, as a
serious art form, is dead. This has not deterred the majority of living painters from continuing to
practice painting either as whole or part of their work. The vitality and versatility of painting in the
21st century belies the premature declarations of its demise. In an epoch characterized by the idea of
pluralism, there is no consensus as to a representative style of the age. Important works of art continue
to be made in a wide variety of styles and aesthetic temperaments, the marketplace being left to judge
merit. Among the continuing and current directions

Emily Bronte s Remembrance and thomas Hardy s The Darkling...
Toward the late 1800 s, Europe was plagued with bad news. They had already reached the prime of
their empire and were now on their way to the declination of the continent. Later, people like Adolf
Hitler would try to bring it back to its full glory, but for now everything was heading south. As usual,
the tone of artistic works followed the success of the empire. Many pieces of art and literature became
darker. Even poets such as Thomas Hardy and Emily Bronte started to write in a much more serious,
somber tone. Their poems started to be drawn to subjects more of things in the past. In Emily Bronte s
Remembrance and Thomas Hardy s poems The Darkling Thrush and Ah, are you Digging on My
Grave? , the speakers undergo loss of love, loss of hope, and somber remembrance of things past,
respectively. To begin, Hardy s poem, Remembrance, has strong feelings for the loss of a loved one,
and is able to start to come to terms with her loss. In line 9, the narrator says, Cold in the earth, and
fifteen wild Decembers From these brown hills have melted into spring. This person lost their lover a
full fifteen years ago. The internal conflict in this poem is intriguing, as it seems the person can t
decide whether to move on. Earlier on in the poem this person asked for the forgiveness of their lover
if they were to let them slip their mind and seemed against it. However, starting in line 21, the
Narrator discusses why he or she feels they should move on, saying that existence could

Goldfish Metabolism
Metabolism refers to the sum of all the necessary chemical processes that allow living organisms to
interconvert and use energy to maintain cellular activity. It can be subdivided into two categories, the
first process is called catabolism which is the process of breaking down molecules to obtain energy,
and the second process is called anabolism which is using energy to synthesize molecules to sustain
cellular activity (Mandal et. al, 2013). With the knowledge that all living organisms undergo metabolic
processes in order to survive, it is important that we understand the process of metabolism and how
specific changes in environmental conditions can affect overall metabolic activity.
The purpose of the present study was to analyze the effect of caffeine on goldfish metabolism by
measuring their oxygen consumption rates. We wanted to analyze the effect of caffeine on metabolic
processes, because present research shows that administration of caffeine therapy to premature ...

Environmentalism In Pope Francis
Pope Francis describes a relentless exploitation and destruction towards environmental discomfort, for
which he blamed apathy from the pursuit of profitable faith in political as well as technological
injustice. The Laudato Si unambiguously accepts scientific causes that impacts the climate that were
beneficially man made, stating climate change is a global problem with grave implications:
environmental, social, economic, political and for the distribution of goods . Representing one of the
principals that challenges humanity. After great anticipation, Pope Francis determined and faced the
difficulties of climate change and pleaded for justice, to enter into dialogue with all people about our
common home. The Pope reaches for new conclusions and is calling for a spiritual transformation and
a solid connection to Earth s ecosystems. The Laudato Si is different, as it is not addressed specifically
to the one beliefs with additional groups added. Pope Francis invites the people of the world to a
dialogue on the subject of environmentalism. Pope Francis has written Laudato Si as caring for
creation is something that is close to his heart. More fundamentally, Pope Francis believes that there
are substantial ecological complications today that must be addressed. They include not only problems
in the natural environment but also in the human sphere, particularly among the disadvantaged. Pope
Francis wrote the encyclical, dated 24 May 2015 and was officially published at on 18

What Does The Persistent Objector Rule Tell Us About The...
2. What does the persistent objector rule tell us about the nature of sovereignty and customary
international law? The persistent objector rule is an important aspect of international law. It has been
established in case law such as the Anglo Norwegian Fisheries case, although it can be said that
examples of this key principle of international law are rare, with examples of this being Norway and
the straight base line, South Africa and apartheid and potentially China with Human rights. The
persistent objector rule can be explained as, a name given to a state when it refuses to be bound by
customary international law. No direct criteria has been given to identify whether a state is a persistent
objector, however it can be seen from the judgment from cases such as Anglo Norwegian Fisheries
case and The Asylum case that a state will be considered a persistent objector if it; objects to having
any customary international law applied to itself, this must be in the initial stages and in an consistent
manner and other states did not object to the states resistance. It is only required that this objection be
expressed verbally, the state does not have to take physical action upon this objection, only that it must
be verbally expressed or shown through a states conduct. There is much debate by academics on the
issue of the rule of persistent objectors. There is much controversy surrounding this topic of
customary international law and whether a state can be exempted from laws if

therefore, it helped us accomplish our ten paragraph essay in a small amount of time. My group as a

specific situation that was given to us. We worked together and wrote the introduction and conclusion.
I did not like the fact that my grade relied on other people. On the other hand, I had some control over
that by telling them how I felt about what was going on. None of my group members was a total

There have been several studies done to demonstrate the condition known as Antisocial Personality
Disorder. Around the 19th century it was called, with what the doctors would in the beginning refer to
as moral insanity (National Collaborating Centre for Mental Health, 1970). When doctors first came
across individuals with this condition, they realized that they were still technically sane even after the
abhorrent things these individuals have done. Without care or consequences to anyone but themselves.
But it was hard to diagnose since this disorder was so ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
When the word psychopath is mentioned, most people will relate that word to serial killers. But often
you are more likely to see them as business men or women, they can have any average day job if their
personality and lack of conscience doesn t get in the way. Even though those that are a diagnosed
psychopath, sociopath, and ASPD they aren t always the serial killer you see on T.V. Most are smart
enough to avoid the attention of the police. Several studies have shown that they more likely to be
involved with White collar crimes like stealing an old lady s money from some scam their running,
and leave countless victims in their wake. But yes, some do have the potential to become violent and
there is evidence to portray that too. Part of being diagnosed as ASPD is the level of potential a person
has to be a danger to themselves or others. EFFECTS OF ANTISOCIAL PERSONALITY

advances to these personality disorders have improved since then, especially when it comes to

Theseus and the Robbers There once was a land located in the middle of the frigid and bitter tundra. It

Origin And Themes Of Popular Soccer Chants
Devin Reddy USSO290Z: Soccer: The Global Game 20 November 2016 Origin and Themes of
Popular Soccer Chants The lyrics Walk on, Walk on, With hope in your hearts are belted out by a sea
of red as a Liverpool match is about to start. Even though the intonation of the singing might make a
choral director cringe, there is no doubt that everyone wearing Liverpool s red jersey knows every
word to the song. Sung in unison, the undeniable passion of Liverpool s fans is overwhelming, when
they wear their club s crest and colors on their chest and recite their anthem with their voice. This sort
of chanting and singing is mainstay in European football, almost as central to the sport as the ball
itself. Here, I will define chanting as the reciting or singing a tune or song, often with changed lyrics
with respect to the original version of the song, in order to evoke or convey emotions. The term
chanting will encompass not only explicitly chanting, but singing and warbling as well, specifically
pertaining to European football. Showcasing the power and unity of that club s fans, chanting can be
used for a variety of purposes, such as supporting their own club, celebrating after a goal, or even
intimidating the opposing club. Some chants, such as Liverpool FC s You ll Never Walk Alone, may
be passed down through generations of fans, engrained in that club s identity. However, there are
many others which are based off of popular music of the time, which come and go, just as popular

Theme Of I Am And Ode To Autumn By John Clare
The poem I have chosen to discuss are, John Clare s I am and Ode to Autumn. by John Keats. Both of
these poems deal with the sublime and express the concern of self consciousness that poetry addressed
during the romantic period. John Clare s I am is a refection upon ones last minutes of breathing life, or
rather a pondering of death. The poem is cleverly constructed through the structured use of complex
poetic techniques in the phonics and sense appealing aspects of the poem. Clare writes to manipulate
the reader, not to show them his grief and despair from his point of view, but instead, a point of view
of which he would like them to see from. I chose this poem because the poem itself, almost becomes
self aware, as though the experiences ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Keats indulges himself in his personified version of autumn. This poem also deals with the theme of
death and its inevitability. This was also a common trait of Keats, as for him, these petite and gradual
notions of death occurred daily and he recorded them and marvelled their lack of severity. The images
that Keats expresses of the cease of your loved ones hold, the engravings on a historical samovar, and
the harvesting in August are of course symbols of death, but are also actually deathly occurrences if
we really think about it. This introduces the underlying threat under al the fruitful beauty of this

Relationship Between Teacher Training And Student...
2. LITERATURE REVIEW
2.1 Theoretical review
Meta analytic reviews reveal contradictory results with regard to the relationship between teacher
training and student achievement. Hanushek (1989, 1997; Fehrler et al., 2009) concluded that there is
no strong evidence to suggest that teacher training and teacher education has a positive effect on
student achievement. On the other hand, Greenwald et.al (1996) and Kane (2013) find a strong
relationship between teacher education and student achievement. Using a narrative synthesis of
individual studies, Wayne and Youngs (2003) argue that students test scores in English, History and
Science do not provide sufficient empirical evidence for drawing conclusions regarding the nature of
the relationship between teachers education and training and students achievement.
2.1.1 Aspects of teacher training and education that affect teacher quality
The government plays a major role in determining the qualification of teachers. Governments
influences teacher quality by setting teacher qualification at a high level to so as to ensure satisfactory
teacher quality while taking into account the supply of qualified individuals. Minimum qualification
requirements for teachers tend to change over time. Teachers employed in the past may not meet the
set qualifications for new teachers, (UNESCO, 2012, 2014). Thus, the quality of new teachers entering
into the profession from initial training will tends to depend on several factors including the

The Theme Of Homo Eroticism Within The Play As You Like It...
Within this analysis, I will inquire into the theme of homo eroticism within the play As You Like It
and how it differs from various other plays written by Shakespeare and elaborate on how ground
breaking this play was during the time it was written and when it was performed, the differences in
social constructs between then and now the differing views of society in the time it was written and
the present day.
As You Like Its first performance was in London in 1740, a time when popular literature associated
homoeroticism with revulsion, violent [for] the loathsome and evil thing an to the Elizabethans
homoeroticism was abhorred, polluted and unclean... and all that is beastly and obscene . (Sokolovic
Cizmek, 2003, P)
As odd as it may sound, one may believe from that, that Elizabethan society wouldn t tolerate
anything slightly resembling homoeroticism, yet homoerotic practice was widespread in the early
modern period among both sexes (Bray, 1993).
An exerpt from Klarisa Sokolovic Cizmek s journal article
Before exploring homoeroticism, it is important to determine an understanding of what the term is. As
defined by Oxford English Dictionary, Homoeroticism is; pertaining to or characterized by a tendency
for erotic emotions to be centred on a person of the same sex; of or pertaining to a homo erotic person
. It is crucial to not mistake homo eroticism as merely a synonym of homosexuality, because it is an
entirely different concept. Homo eroticism refers to the

A Search For True Identity
In a search for true identity, it is impossible to look at purely just the mind or just the body because a
persons identity lies beyond the physicality of one s reality. Many different debates have left people
baffled when it comes to defining one s identity or self. Descartes and Ghost in the shell explore in
depth the means of their self. Descartes often speaks about mind and body dualism in his meditations
and that the mind is separate. However when you look at the mind and body separately, you are left
with a dilemma; Observing one or the other by itself doesn t really get you anywhere. All of the
knowledge we acquire throughout our lives are connected to some other known idea or concept.
During one of his meditations, Descartes mentions, Nor should I think that I do not perceive the
infinite by means of a true idea, but only through a negation of the finite. Just as I perceive rest and
darkness by means of a negation through motion and light (Descartes 6.46). It is impossible to
comprehend what the mind is by looking at it solely; you have to put it in comparison with what a
body means. You cannot comprehend what a mind is just like how you cannot comprehend what a
body is until you put them in contrast or comparison with each other. Another way of looking at it is
by considering it a struggle with the concept of what a consciousness is defined by. When it is brought
into question what the self is, it is also peering into the idea of an awareness past the material

Destinee Game Analysis
As the striker stepped back to take the penalty kick, I planted my feet on the ground. I watched in
anticipation as she ran up to the ball and watched it fly towards the goal in slow motion, guessing
which direction it will go. Though I have played goalkeeper for 10 years, nothing I did then would
have changed the motion of the ball soaring towards the goal. Only the hard work I had done in the
weeks prior could affect it, because the goalkeeper in goal was a player I coached.

Destinee.
Finally, in one of the last games of the season, Destinee had a clear cut opportunity to show her
progress. It was an important game, and the team was winning by one goal. The referee called a
penalty kick, and Destinee had to make the save to keep her team ahead. I watched her get ready for
the shot the way I taught her and thought about how she had told me that penalty kicks were
impossible. The shot was taken, and Destinee made a diving save to the corner to deny the goal. As I
heard sighs of relief on my side of the field and loud groans on the other, I realized I was the loudest
one cheering. It was great seeing Destinee excel in something that she could not imagine attempting

The Lives Of Galileo And Kepler s Inventions

comes to math, science, and astronomy. All three men were in a way connect to another through their
works. Let s take a deeper look into the lives of these three men.
We can start with Galileo an Italian astronomer. He is known for a few things such as the Copernican
theory which basically is the theory that supports sun centered solar system. Also Galileo became
interested in astronomy, and after he did he built the first telescope back in 1609. With this new

confuse them with Kepler s three laws of planetary motion. Newton s three laws were one every
object in motion stays in motion until acted upon by force, the second is force equals mass times
acceleration, and the third is to every action there is an opposite reaction. He also wrote gradational
theory with the help of Kepler s previous work. He became inspired by the sight of seeing a falling
apple. This got him curious and wanted to know more. He also was known for the first reflecting
telescope, which allowed him to play around with the colors and prism that came from the spectrum to
see. Though he may not have had tons of contributing he did have major findings and that is what
made him famous.

The movement soon gained many followers and by the 1830s there were approximately 1.5 million

from consuming alcoholic beverages; in other words the temperance movement. During the mid 19th
century, this movement was pushed down in importance, as the Civil War became the main focus of
the time. In the late 19th century however, women became prominent leaders of the movement and
again the movement rose in popularity.(Stock; Thomas and Bonk)
Alcohol consumption was once again tied with increase in violence and social ills . At the beginning
of the 20th century 14 states had already banned alcohol consumption and within another decade 17
states had followed, so by 1913, 31 states had outlawed alcohol consumption. Three years later, in the

Analysis Of Billy Budd By Herman Melville
The novella Billy Budd by Herman Melville is a 1924 sea story that has underlying allusions to Christ
and the bible as pointed out by many critics. Many have found that Billy s life resembles the plight of
Christ, as well as Adam, while Captain Vere is meant to stand as God, and Claggart is left as the role
of Satan. These underlying character molds ultimately contribute to the novella as a whole and explore
the dilemmas of their Bible counterparts. William Billy Budd has been described as a Christ like
character. His physical appearance remains to be a focus throughout, and his perfection is, ultimately,
what attracts all the sailors to him. Billy has an innocence to him that many on the ship have lost.
However, nothing is perfect as it seems, as Billy s flaws lead to his demise. Billy s stutter, as well as
his childlike mentality when it comes to aggravated situations show that while God can create
seemingly perfect beings, Satan and evil also have their say and play a crucial part. Billy s death in the
novella can be considered a mirrored image of Christ s death in the bible. Even their last words bear a
sense of forgiveness. Billy s final God Bless Captain Vere! , (page 86), is very similar to Christ s,
Father, forgive them for they know not what they do. Billy s final exclamation results in a lack of
wavering faith and, almost, forgiveness for Captain Vere s condemning William to death. Additionally,
as written in chapter 27, Melville compares Billy to

around the needs of humanity in searching for understanding. Mathematics emerged from the
necessity to quantify time and number. The earliest evidence of counting occurred in mountains of

advancements started to surface in Asia and the near east, frameworks and essential appreciation of
arithmetic, geometry and polynomial math started to develop. Mathematics has made a lot of progress

The importance of astronomy and calendar (18 months a year; 20 days a month) calculations to the
Mayans required mathematics, which lead them create an advanced number system of its time. The
system was on base 20 and most times base 5, which very likely originated from counting on fingers
and toes. The numerals consisted of only three symbols: zero was represented as a shell shape, one, a

An Article From The New York Times
This analysis is about an article from The New York Times How Do We Get More People to Have
Good Lives? by Thomas B. Edsall. Edsall is an American journalist and academic. In his article,
Edsall argues that in order to make the future young poor get out of poverty, America needs to treat
both private and public sectors in early childhood programs equally. To start his article, Edsall
mentions the Obama administration s big investment in education to promote math, reading, and
science skills for the school children. According to the National Center for Education Statistics, from
2007 to 2013, the reading scores of fourth graders have increased 0.45 percent, and the math scores
from them too have grown 0.83 percent. The attempt of trying to raise test scores from the government
shows that both cognitive and character skills place a significant part in life opportunities as well as
weapons in the contest for economic and social status. Edsall moves on with an example from the
book Persistence, Privilege, and Parenting. The book discusses that children with better background
can achieve more in life and are more likely to raise their own children better than others. For general
knowledge, cognitive skills come from a shift in knowledge based economy due to the decline in
manufacturing employment, the growth of the technology and financial sectors, and labor recruitment
from a global talent pool. Edsall makes a comment on this problem of education reform that it is too

How Did Ben Carson Impact Personal Life
1. How did Ben Carson s story impact your personal life? Give 2 3 examples.
Ben Carson s story impacted my personal life in many ways. Ben Carson is an inspiration for
numerous aspiring doctors or other careers in the medical field. He is also an inspiration to people of
color and financially unstable people. He has surpassed multiple hardships and is a very successful
person today. Everyone who is active in currents events know who he is because he is running for the
Republican Presidential Election and/or his astounding and notable surgeries.
One major aspect in his life that inspired me that I have the potential of fulfilling my dreams is his
humble beginnings. Carson was not as privileged as he is today; he was an inner city kid born and
raised in Detroit by only his mother. His mother made sure her children had morals and an education
because she herself did not go to school past the third grade and was not able to read well. In the
beginning of his school years, he was at the back of his class and made fun of by the other children
because he did not excel in his classes. He turned this around and became top of his class due to his
mother enforcement of studious habits. Despite his past, he was accepted into one of the most elite
universities in the world, Yale University. Ben Carson was also admitted into a prestigious ... Show

  • 3. The United States Of America Fought For Independence The United States of America fought for independence in 1775 until 1783. After the war, the newly independent Americans needed a new government. The Continental Congress, after years of debate and drafting, decided to adopt the Articles of Confederation in 1781. The first draft was proposed in 1775, but never acted upon. Many drafts were proposed, six, to be exact, and in 1777 it was given to the states for approval. Maryland was the last to ratify it, given to concerns of lands to the west. After this was settled, they approved and the Articles of Confederation went into effect on March 1, 1781 ( Articles of Confederation. ). However, none of these six drafts compared to the document of the U.S. Constitution in 1787. This document changes the union from a loose group of friendly states allowed to attend to almost all affairs, to states united under a federal government. Not all of the founding fathers thought that this document was good, though. The debates were between two parties, the federalists and the anti federalists. The anti federalists thought that the constitution gave the federal government too much power. Despite these fears, the constitution was ratified. To this day government officials argue about legitimacy of laws and whether the federal government or the states have the right to pass the laws in question. All throughout the time that the United States has operated under the constitution, it has been a fight between views of centralism and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Discrimination And Discrimination Of The United States Essay For a long time, equality in the United States was just a figment of some hopeful people s imaginations, and an impractical idea from their reality. There was separation in schools, restaurants, and even workplaces. Along with separation there was racism and discrimination everywhere. Discrimination is the act of denying rights, benefits, justice, equitable treatment, or access to facilities available to all others, to an individual or group of people because of their race, age, gender, handicap or other defining characteristic. (Your Dictionary). President John F. Kennedy issued Executive Order 10925 on March 6, 1961, which was the first reference to a term known as affirmative action . This order led to the creation of the Committee on Equal Employment Opportunity, which requires that any projects that are federally funded must take affirmative action to ensure that their workplaces are free of racial bias in the practices of employment and hiring. The Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, or EEOC, is a branch of federal government that followed the Civil Rights Act of 1964, and its main purpose was to construe and impose federal laws that deal with preventing discrimination. To achieve these goals, the EEOC holds hearings, administers equal employment opportunity laws for employees of the federal government, issues regulations interpreting the law, and litigates discrimination cases, among other things. The EEOC also accepts charges of discrimination from ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Investigating The Amount Of Calcium On The Calcium Oxide... Discussion: The purpose of this lab was to calculate the amount of calcium in Kirkland Signature s Calcium 600mg +D3 through the processes of vacuum filtration and acid base titration. These two methods were effective in determining the amount of calcium in the calcium supplement with an error of +/ 0.05 g; the amount of calcium stated on the label was 600 mg. The reactions that occurred during the process of vacuum filtration were: CaCO3 (s) + 2HCl(aq) → CaCl2 (aq) +CO2 (g) + H2O(l) CaCl2(aq) + Na2CO3(aq) → CaCO3(s) +2NaCl(aq) The amounts of calcium calculated from the two trials of vacuum filtration were 0.554 g and 0.573 g respectively. The calculations from the trials are shown in Equation 2 and Equation 3. The results from the vacuum filtration were very close to the amount stated on the bottle. The small deviation from the original could be the result of inadequately removing all of the ground powder from the mortar and pestle. This caused the original mass of the supplement to be less than what was expected, hence the smaller final amount. There was a small difference in the procedures between the two trials of vacuum filtration. During the second trial, more care and attention was given to make sure that the entire calcium supplement was transferred from the mortar and pestle to the 250 mL Erlenmeyer flask. Because more care was given, the calculated amount of calcium increased by 0.019 g. The other method used in this lab was an acid base titration. The ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Reflection About Communication Technology The Communications Technology course serves as a base to introduce a student to the photography as well as the Communication Technology aspect of the field. Over this semester, I am content with what I have learned are improved upon. When entering the class on this first day, I did not know what I was going to expect. I thought this course was all about photography as it is mainly known as photography ; but after a brief introduction by Mr. Oseivhi, I learned that there is much more components to it. This course focused on every little basic detail you absolutely need to know before entering the Communication Technology industry. The company project where we were asked to make up a business and develop a business card, letterhead, video and logo made me realized that it isn t easy to work together. You really need to be patient and corporate with others instead of giving up. When my team mates weren t being respectful and doing the work they were assigned, it got me frustrated and infuriated. I preferred working by myself and as a result separated myself from them and worked individually. But once Mr. Oseivhi made us realize that situations like these will mostly likely occur in our future jobs we needed to learn how to adapt to others circumstances and work as a team. So therefore, that did happen and at the end we got what we accomplished and as well as learned a valuable lesson. • 7. The Revenge Tragedy Of Hamlet Essay Issara Butt Professor Abbott English 102 November 30, 2016 The Revenge Tragedy of Hamlet Revenge tragedies share some common characteristics of the play Hamlet which classify them in the group of many great stories such as The Spanish Tragedy, and King Lear. A vengeful ghost, a play within a play, and the main character who seeks revenge on an opponent and murdered (KAY). At some point in life many of us feel the need to seek revenge and never actually act upon it, but what if we did? What would be the consequences and what would life be like afterwards. The thoughts we have of this makes the stories of revenge tragedies exciting and intriguing. They are our thoughts written on paper and into a story making as if what we think is actually happening. In the time of Shakespearean writing, things would have gone slightly different. The play Hamlet, is a prime example of a revenge tragedy in its refined state of written speech. Hamlet is a revenge tragedy for many reasons, not only that but it is the most written, re enacted, and read play of all time (TUMIEL). The multiple plots of revenge, murders, and ghost appearances makes Hamlet the leading play of revenge tragedies and most studied currently in academic curriculums. It is believed to be that William Shakespeare s Hamlet was based off of Thomas Kyd s story, Ur Hamlet (MABILLARD). Although Ur Hamlet was a rough and uncut version of a revenge tragedy and needed further developing, but Shakespeare s Hamlet is well refined, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 9. The Pursuit Of A Happy Life Essay It is common sense that all the human beings would like to live a happy life and they will spare no efforts in order to realize the purpose of really living a happy life in the end. However, different people have different definitions toward what a happy life is and they tend to have different standards as for how a life is that can be regarded as a happy life. There is no doubt that people will then try different means in order to pursue a happy life based on their definition toward what a happy life is. Therefore, the following will talk about the pursuit of a happy life from the perspectives of both Dalai Lama in The Art of Happiness and Viktor E. Frankl in Man s Searching for Meaning, during which the experiences of some characters from the film Forrest Gump will be applied as evidence. Generally speaking, the pursuit of a happy life in the minds of Dalai Lama and Viktor E. Frankl can be achieved via experiencing sufferings and adversity. It is hoped that this analysis can help people understand what a happy is from a different point of view. The Pursuit of a Happy Life First and foremost comes Dalai Lama s idea toward how to pursue a happy life. In Chapter 8 of The Art of Happiness, Facing Suffering, Dalai Lama argues that suffering is an inherent part of human life, and that accepting that suffering is both natural and unavoidable will help us to tolerate adversity and eventually work to remove the causes of suffering: Our attitude towards suffering becomes very ... In fact, different types of craft can be traced back to prehistoric times when Neanderthal men started painting on the walls of the cave. Throughout the centuries, art has evolved to several forms among which are sculpting, painting, and even poetry. Art is the product or process of deliberately arranging items in a way that influences and affects one or more of the senses, emotions, and intellect. There are examples of cave paintings all over the world in India, France, Spain, Portugal, China, Australia, etc. In Western cultures oil painting and watercolor painting have rich and complex traditions in style and subject matter. In the East, ink and color ink historically predominated the choice of media with equally rich and complex traditions. Modern and Contemporary Art has moved away from the historic value of craft and documentation in favour of concept; this led some to say in the 1960s that painting, as a serious art form, is dead. This has not deterred the majority of living painters from continuing to practice painting either as whole or part of their work. The vitality and versatility of painting in the 21st century belies the premature declarations of its demise. In an epoch characterized by the idea of pluralism, there is no consensus as to a representative style of the age. Important works of art continue to be made in a wide variety of styles and aesthetic temperaments, the marketplace being left to judge merit. Among the continuing and current directions ... They had already reached the prime of their empire and were now on their way to the declination of the continent. Later, people like Adolf Hitler would try to bring it back to its full glory, but for now everything was heading south. As usual, the tone of artistic works followed the success of the empire. Many pieces of art and literature became darker. Even poets such as Thomas Hardy and Emily Bronte started to write in a much more serious, somber tone. Their poems started to be drawn to subjects more of things in the past. In Emily Bronte s Remembrance and Thomas Hardy s poems The Darkling Thrush and Ah, are you Digging on My Grave? , the speakers undergo loss of love, loss of hope, and somber remembrance of things past, respectively. To begin, Hardy s poem, Remembrance, has strong feelings for the loss of a loved one, and is able to start to come to terms with her loss. In line 9, the narrator says, Cold in the earth, and fifteen wild Decembers From these brown hills have melted into spring. This person lost their lover a full fifteen years ago. • 15. Goldfish Metabolism Metabolism refers to the sum of all the necessary chemical processes that allow living organisms to interconvert and use energy to maintain cellular activity. It can be subdivided into two categories, the first process is called catabolism which is the process of breaking down molecules to obtain energy, and the second process is called anabolism which is using energy to synthesize molecules to sustain cellular activity (Mandal et. al, 2013). With the knowledge that all living organisms undergo metabolic processes in order to survive, it is important that we understand the process of metabolism and how specific changes in environmental conditions can affect overall metabolic activity. Environmentalism In Pope Francis Pope Francis describes a relentless exploitation and destruction towards environmental discomfort, for which he blamed apathy from the pursuit of profitable faith in political as well as technological injustice. The Laudato Si unambiguously accepts scientific causes that impacts the climate that were beneficially man made, stating climate change is a global problem with grave implications: environmental, social, economic, political and for the distribution of goods . Representing one of the principals that challenges humanity. After great anticipation, Pope Francis determined and faced the difficulties of climate change and pleaded for justice, to enter into dialogue with all people about our common home. The persistent objector rule is an important aspect of international law. It has been established in case law such as the Anglo Norwegian Fisheries case, although it can be said that examples of this key principle of international law are rare, with examples of this being Norway and the straight base line, South Africa and apartheid and potentially China with Human rights. The persistent objector rule can be explained as, a name given to a state when it refuses to be bound by customary international law. No direct criteria has been given to identify whether a state is a persistent objector, however it can be seen from the judgment from cases such as Anglo Norwegian Fisheries case and The Asylum case that a state will be considered a persistent objector if it; objects to having any customary international law applied to itself, this must be in the initial stages and in an consistent manner and other states did not object to the states resistance. It is only required that this objection be expressed verbally, the state does not have to take physical action upon this objection, only that it must be verbally expressed or shown through a states conduct. There is much debate by academics on the issue of the rule of persistent objectors. Even though the intonation of the singing might make a choral director cringe, there is no doubt that everyone wearing Liverpool s red jersey knows every word to the song. Sung in unison, the undeniable passion of Liverpool s fans is overwhelming, when they wear their club s crest and colors on their chest and recite their anthem with their voice. This sort of chanting and singing is mainstay in European football, almost as central to the sport as the ball itself. Here, I will define chanting as the reciting or singing a tune or song, often with changed lyrics with respect to the original version of the song, in order to evoke or convey emotions. The term chanting will encompass not only explicitly chanting, but singing and warbling as well, specifically pertaining to European football. Showcasing the power and unity of that club s fans, chanting can be used for a variety of purposes, such as supporting their own club, celebrating after a goal, or even intimidating the opposing club. LITERATURE REVIEW 2.1 Theoretical review Meta analytic reviews reveal contradictory results with regard to the relationship between teacher training and student achievement. Hanushek (1989, 1997; Fehrler et al., 2009) concluded that there is no strong evidence to suggest that teacher training and teacher education has a positive effect on student achievement. On the other hand, Greenwald et.al (1996) and Kane (2013) find a strong relationship between teacher education and student achievement. Using a narrative synthesis of individual studies, Wayne and Youngs (2003) argue that students test scores in English, History and Science do not provide sufficient empirical evidence for drawing conclusions regarding the nature of the relationship between teachers education and training and students achievement. 2.1.1 Aspects of teacher training and education that affect teacher quality The government plays a major role in determining the qualification of teachers. Within this analysis, I will inquire into the theme of homo eroticism within the play As You Like It and how it differs from various other plays written by Shakespeare and elaborate on how ground breaking this play was during the time it was written and when it was performed, the differences in social constructs between then and now the differing views of society in the time it was written and the present day. As You Like Its first performance was in London in 1740, a time when popular literature associated homoeroticism with revulsion, violent [for] the loathsome and evil thing an to the Elizabethans homoeroticism was abhorred, polluted and unclean... and all that is beastly and obscene . (Sokolovic Cizmek, 2003, P) As odd as it may sound, one may believe from that, that Elizabethan society wouldn t tolerate anything slightly resembling homoeroticism, yet homoerotic practice was widespread in the early modern period among both sexes (Bray, 1993). An exerpt from Klarisa Sokolovic Cizmek s journal article Before exploring homoeroticism, it is important to determine an understanding of what the term is. • 31. A Search For True Identity In a search for true identity, it is impossible to look at purely just the mind or just the body because a persons identity lies beyond the physicality of one s reality. Many different debates have left people baffled when it comes to defining one s identity or self. Descartes and Ghost in the shell explore in depth the means of their self. Descartes often speaks about mind and body dualism in his meditations and that the mind is separate. However when you look at the mind and body separately, you are left with a dilemma; Observing one or the other by itself doesn t really get you anywhere. All of the knowledge we acquire throughout our lives are connected to some other known idea or concept. During one of his meditations, Descartes mentions, Nor should I think that I do not perceive the infinite by means of a true idea, but only through a negation of the finite. Just as I perceive rest and darkness by means of a negation through motion and light (Descartes 6.46). It is impossible to comprehend what the mind is by looking at it solely; you have to put it in comparison with what a body means. You cannot comprehend what a mind is just like how you cannot comprehend what a body is until you put them in contrast or comparison with each other. Another way of looking at it is by considering it a struggle with the concept of what a consciousness is defined by. • 32. Destinee Game Analysis As the striker stepped back to take the penalty kick, I planted my feet on the ground. I watched in anticipation as she ran up to the ball and watched it fly towards the goal in slow motion, guessing which direction it will go. Though I have played goalkeeper for 10 years, nothing I did then would have changed the motion of the ball soaring towards the goal. Only the hard work I had done in the weeks prior could affect it, because the goalkeeper in goal was a player I coached. I started coaching for AYSO recreational league soccer in my freshman year, as an assistant to a former coach of mine, Wayne. Wayne understood my passion and knowledge of the game, and I was more than happy to help him and his team, specifically his goalkeeper, Destinee. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Of course none of her progress would be possible without her hardworking attitude and commitment to training, but I still developed a sense of pride in Destinee. Finally, in one of the last games of the season, Destinee had a clear cut opportunity to show her progress. It was an important game, and the team was winning by one goal. The referee called a penalty kick, and Destinee had to make the save to keep her team ahead. I watched her get ready for the shot the way I taught her and thought about how she had told me that penalty kicks were impossible. The shot was taken, and Destinee made a diving save to the corner to deny the goal. As I heard sighs of relief on my side of the field and loud groans on the other, I realized I was the loudest one cheering. It was great seeing Destinee excel in something that she could not imagine attempting only a month ago. From this experience I learned that contributing to your community, however selfless the contribution, has a reward in itself when you know that you have helped someone else. • 39. Analysis Of Billy Budd By Herman Melville The novella Billy Budd by Herman Melville is a 1924 sea story that has underlying allusions to Christ and the bible as pointed out by many critics. Many have found that Billy s life resembles the plight of Christ, as well as Adam, while Captain Vere is meant to stand as God, and Claggart is left as the role of Satan. These underlying character molds ultimately contribute to the novella as a whole and explore the dilemmas of their Bible counterparts. William Billy Budd has been described as a Christ like character. His physical appearance remains to be a focus throughout, and his perfection is, ultimately, what attracts all the sailors to him. Billy has an innocence to him that many on the ship have lost. However, nothing is perfect as it seems, as Billy s flaws lead to his demise. Billy s stutter, as well as his childlike mentality when it comes to aggravated situations show that while God can create seemingly perfect beings, Satan and evil also have their say and play a crucial part. Billy s death in the novella can be considered a mirrored image of Christ s death in the bible. Even their last words bear a sense of forgiveness. Billy s final God Bless Captain Vere! , (page 86), is very similar to Christ s, Father, forgive them for they know not what they do. Billy s final exclamation results in a lack of wavering faith and, almost, forgiveness for Captain Vere s condemning William to death. Additionally, as written in chapter 27, Melville compares Billy to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Edsall is an American journalist and academic. In his article, Edsall argues that in order to make the future young poor get out of poverty, America needs to treat both private and public sectors in early childhood programs equally. To start his article, Edsall mentions the Obama administration s big investment in education to promote math, reading, and science skills for the school children. According to the National Center for Education Statistics, from 2007 to 2013, the reading scores of fourth graders have increased 0.45 percent, and the math scores from them too have grown 0.83 percent. The attempt of trying to raise test scores from the government shows that both cognitive and character skills place a significant part in life opportunities as well as weapons in the contest for economic and social status. Edsall moves on with an example from the book Persistence, Privilege, and Parenting. The book discusses that children with better background can achieve more in life and are more likely to raise their own children better than others. For general knowledge, cognitive skills come from a shift in knowledge based economy due to the decline in manufacturing employment, the growth of the technology and financial sectors, and labor recruitment from a global talent pool.
