Women And Domestic Marriage In The Victorian Period
The Victorian Period was the era of British Monarch; Queen Victoria, in this era women had
extremely limited right s. Women were not giving the choice to vote, sue or own any property. In
addition to that, they lost ownership of their wages, all of their physical belongings, and every other
cash they were able to generate once they were married. In fact, once women got married they legally
became property to their husbands, giving them ownership over their body. Meaning that they had the
right to use their wives body for: children, any sexual activity and/or domestic labor. Therefore, their
mutual matrimonial consent became a contract of women giving themselves to their husband s as they
desired. Under the law, a husband and wife became one ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The majority of women in that period did not have the option to decide whether they wanted to get
married or not, it was a necessity in order to survive. Once these women were married it was
extremely difficult, if not impossible, to get divorced. Husbands could be having affairs with other
women, or abusing their wives, and still divorce was considered a social taboo. As a matter of fact,
many authors from this era used to address social issues, like the degradation of wives, in their
writing. Most of the authors that wrote pro feminist books, novels and/or articles were females, yet
there were a few male authors like: George Gissing, George Meredith and Grant Allen, who also
started writing about women s issues and their struggles.
The Odd Woman a novel by; George Gissing, talks about the roles of women in society such as
marriage, morals and the early feminist movement in the Victorian Period. Most middle class women
during the Victorian era, married by the time they were 25, but the ideal age for a woman to commit
was 20. The novel s title is derived from women in that era whom were left out after all other eligible
men and women were paired up in marriage. In the novel, it can be inferred that their lifestyle was

Waldenstrom Macroglobulinemia Essay
Waldenstrom macroglobulinemia (WM), also known as lymphoplasmacytic lymphoma, is a type of
low grade non Hodgkin lymphoma characterized by bone marrow infiltration with lymphomasmacytic
cells. WM was named after Jan Waldenstrom, a Swedish doctor who came across the disease and
labeled the disorder in 1944. It is an incurable, rare disease affecting 1 in 3 million people with a
medial life span of 5 9 years after it is diagnosed. The cause of this disease is unknown but recent
indications and research show that the cause can be due to changes in the DNA. Age and gender are
the main factors with most occurrences in men over 50. WM s cancer cells are similar to multiple
myeloma except that WM has lymphocyte features that are not present in multiple ... Show more

Prognosis is influenced by factors such as how advanced the disease is at diagnosis, and how rapidly it
is advancing. Effective treatments are traditional chemotherapy agents such as chlorambucil,
cyclophosphamide and melphalan. These can be given as a single agent or combination with others
such as rituximab. This monoclonal antibody has been found to be effective. Because WM is a rare
disease, there are minimal research trials to support this disease. But none the less, there are clinical
trials available. Ongoing research has introduced new therapies including inhibitors and alkylating
agents. These ongoing clinical trials have shown that when compared to conventional chemotherapy
agents, can not only treat the symptoms of the disease, but also continue to further medicine s
knowledge as to patient s prognosis while providing patients increased therapeutic efficacy, longer
remissions and most important, a better quality of life. Stem cell transplant is also an option. This
process involves removal of blood forming stem cells which are restored to the patient following
chemotherapy treatment while the transplanted cells return to the bone marrow and produce new
blood cells. Another option for patients with a swollen spleen is the removal of the spleen. This would

Summary Of Parasite Rex Inside The Bizarre World Of The World
Zimmer emphasizes his prologue in two different stories. The first story is about a twelve year old boy
named Justin who lives in Tambura Sudan infected with a single cell parasite called a trypanosome
also known as the sleeping disease. Zimmer explains that the parasite is transmitted by two different
hosts the tsetse fly and humans. The infection cycle starts with the tsetse fly drinking human s blood
pouring in Trypanosomes. The trypanosomes then steal oxygen and glucose invading all the organs
including the brain. Sleeping sickness gets its named from the way trypanosomes disorder people
brains by damaging the biological clock and turning day to night. Justin had to take some injections of
melarsoprol which contains twenty percent of arsenic and steroids for swelling. This brutal procedure
was followed because Justin had parasites in his brain.
The second story took place a few months after his trip to Sudan. Biologist Daniel Brooks guided
Zimmer and seven other biologists through a jungle in Costa Rica. Brooks caught several different
types of frogs to look under a microscope, most of the parasites were new to science. Zimmer then
goes into detail of how the book Parasite Rex Inside the Bizarre World of Nature s Most Dangerous
Creatures is about a new study of life and that it has taken a long time for scientist to appreciate the
sophisticated adaptation parasites have made to the inner world.

The Overlooked Area Of Poverty Essay
The overlooked area
Looking at the MDGs as the whole, poverty reduction was the central theme in the development
agenda; it was aimed to cut in half proportion of the population living below $1 a day from around 30
percent of the developing countries by 2015 (United Nations, 2005). Even though these targets have
been almost achieved; it was predicted that there are about 825 million of citizen still live in extreme
poverty and 800 million still suffer from inadequate hunger (FAO, 2015). Thus, fighting against
poverty and hunger remains the enormous challenge. Then, an inevitable question arises as to whether
the persistence of poverty was well defined. FAO (2015) also have noticed that extreme poverty
mainly occurs in rural areas where the majority of poor people depend on agriculture. The condition of
relying on agriculture means that primary source of food and income for those poor people come from
agriculture that they have made. Unfortunately, agriculture was not prioritized at the goal and target
levels. Agriculture was mentioned at the indicator level under target three of goal eight (Develop a
Global Partnership for Development). It was set to measure market access, which was seen as a huge
gap that agriculture was overlooked in the MDGs.
The relevance of agriculture to other goals
Relooking at the connection between agriculture and each of the goal is considered as a reflective
process for better implications in the next goal development. For goal 1, Eradicate

Case Study Recommendations For Starbucks
Recommendations Since starting its business operations in 1971 Starbucks has worked its way up to
becoming the global leader within the specialty coffee industry and has revolutionized not only this
sector, but the entire coffee culture. However, through rising competition and increasing criticism
within the media and public, Starbucks has to re think its position and further growth. The corporation
still has various opportunities to expand and improve its business, and should take actions in order to
defend its position. Rapid global expansion and entering new markets has been a major driver for
Starbucks success. However, customers become increasingly worried that through the quick growth
the corporation is loosing track of its unique customer selling point and the popular Starbucks
Experience. Especially emerging markets such as Brazil, India, and South Africa are showing great
growth potential through an increasing population within their middle classes, as well as a growing
economy and disposable income. The corporation has already entered these markets and established

Aristotle s Ethical Theory Of Ethics Essay
Introduction
Definition of Ethics
Ethics is a branch of philosophy that deals with moral startdards and virtues of human beings. Ethics
has to do with what is good or bad. It can be summed as a method by which we categorize our values
and persue them.
Aristotle s Ethical Theory
Aristotles philosophical expanation of ethics was an attempt to offer a rational response to the
question of how humans should best live. Aristotle defined ethics as guiding morals and principles that
construes humans towards living a better, fullfilled life as a result of being prudence by applying
practical wisdom in decision making process. The main objective of this theoretical concept was to
seek an answer on the quaestion of how best to live or living a fulfilled life to the extremest (Hughes,
Gerald J. 2001).
According to Aristotle, happiness is;
Happiness is the ultimate end and purpose of human existence
Happiness is not pleasure, nor is it virtue. It is the exercise of virtue.
Happiness cannot be achieved until the end of one s life. Hence it is a goal and not a temporary state.
Happiness is the perfection of human nature. Since man is a rational animal, human happiness
depends on the exercise of his reason.
Happiness depends on acquiring a moral character, where one displays the virtues of courage,
generosity, justice, friendship, and citizenship in one s life. These virtues involve striking a balance or
mean between an excess and a deficiency.
Happiness requires

Essay about An Historical Event That Changed America
On April 19, 1775, Americans will never forget when many deaths and historical events occurred
allowing the colonist to receive their victoriorous justice. Colonists were frustrated because Britain
forced them not to have any representation in the British Parliament. This led to an American battle
which had 4,435 deaths involving this event. Although, we lost many lives during this time period, we
gained justice and independence from Great Britain, with the help of one of Americas strongests allie;
the French. In fact, without assistance, the Americans were no match for Britains; showing the hatred
towards the British from the French and Americans, thus, making it easy for them to form an alliance.

The Americans begged the British by addressing to the king to Give [them] liberty or give [them]
death (Daniel 167), which was used to protest in the speech of the Revolutionary warfare. This
declares that the people will fight for their rights, justice and freedom from Great Britain. This means
sacrificing their lives for the upcoming generations to receive their victorious rights. Although, the
colonists protested and spoke with the rulers of Great Britian, the people were still unheard.
Furthermore, Great Britain had commanded new payment methods which created a ruckus with the
Americans causeing great anger. Rebellion and discontent were rampant. The colonies started
rebelling against Mother England because of taxes issued to the colonies, in as much, England s power
did not allow them to have representation. The Revenue Act of 1764 made the Constitutional issue of
whether or not the king had the right to tax the people who are living in his kingdom or the thirteen
colonies. Eventually, this became an entering wedge in the great dispute that was finally to wrest the
American colonies from England (Carey 48). It was the phrase taxation without representation
(Montgomery 138) that was to draw many to the cause of the American patriots against the mother
country. That has royal authority to be able to term public opinions into a revolutionary battle.

Analysis Of Narrative Of The Life Of Frederick Douglass
Reid Champlin
Mrs. Stack
AP English, Period 7
14 August 2015
In His Own Words: Analysis of The Narrative of the Life of Frederick Douglass They say that one can
never fully understand a situation until he/she is put into that scenario themselves. Too often, history is
written by those who have only read and researched the issues, remaining distant and objective to get
all the facts straight. While there is honor in this approach, one cannot experience the horror of war,
the thrill of victory, or the reality of a situation if written from a third person perspective. No, history
is best told by those who have participated in it: the soldiers who crawled through the muddy trenches,
the revelers who celebrated the great national victory, or the people who did not witness history, but
made it. Particularly on the issue of slavery, copious amounts of writing exist on both the pro slavery
and anti slavery side from scholars, politicians, and citizens supporting their views, but very little
exists from the perspective of slaves and former slaves. This in part is what makes The Narrative of
the Life of Frederick Douglass, an autobiography of former slave and abolitionist Frederick Douglass,
so incredible and valuable to the American audience. Speaking with authority as one who has
experienced slavery firsthand, the self educated Douglass exquisitely manipulates a bevy of literary
devices, such as setting, writing style, and allegory, to illustrate the horrors of slavery and form a

Ian Mcewan s Enduring Love
In Enduring Love, by Ian McEwan, madness brings the characters together. It is what drives
relationships, starts conflicts, and maintains love, or so some think. In the case of Joe and Jed,
madness envelops them. Throughout the story, madness and irrationality play an important role in
maintaining the relationships of Joe and Jed and of Joe and Clarissa.
In the case of Joe and Clarissa, irrationality is what both drives them apart and keeps them together.
Initially, Joe starts out as a fairly rational person. His profession is writing about science and using
facts to back up his logic. He expresses these interests while rambling about a recent science piece he
has been scripting:

From the first time Joe came to his house to all the calls and meets afterward, there was no true
explanation for any actions except De Clerambault Syndrome , which Joe self diagnosed Jedd with.
There are many instances throughout the book where Jed Parry s madness both repulses Joe yet reels
him in. The first instance is at the hot air balloon crash, when Jeff walks over to joe, hoping to comfort
him with prayer. Look, we don t know each other and there s no reason why you should trust me.
Except that God has brought us together in this tragedy and we have to, you know, make whatever
sense of it we can? I think you have a special need for prayer? (McEwan 28). This offering is what set
off the back and forth between Jeff and Joe. Jedd s persistence must ve influenced Joe in a way that
would drive him crazy. While at the library, Joe claimed he saw Jedd s shoes and began running
around the area, searching for him. Joe s newfound paranoia only grows from this point, with Jedd
only making it worse by leaving 20 messages on the answering machine at a time and showing up at
Joe s house. This madness reaches an all time high when Jedd, who s grown to be obsessive about Joe,
has a knife to Clarissa, threatening to hurt her if Joe doesn t give him forgiveness. You ve never given
me a thing. PLease let me have this. I m going to do it anyway. Let me have this one thing from

Analysis Of Relational Unions And Connections
Deceiving in relational unions and connections has been extremely uncontrolled particularly in the
contemporary society. Many individuals have lost their marriage accomplices because of deceiving
either sincerely or sexually. Individuals are typically less dedicated and fulfilled seeing someone when
they get an inclination that their accomplices are undermining them. Conning or misdirecting on ones
accomplice is generally determined by less duty in one relationship whereby a few people may cheat

The fact is that many people are slackers and drifters, with mediocre lives...
The good news is that in the teleconference series on The Missing Link to Success, we look at the five
components that I have found are central to creating a prosperous life. Here s the formula:
PASSION + PURPOSE + POSITION + PRODUCTIVITY + PEACE OF MIND = PROSPERITY
As well as the article called The Missing Link to Success, which provides an overview of the whole
series, there is an article for each of these Five Ps , so look for them wherever you found this article! I

What does this mean? Why is it important to be productive? The main dictionary definition of
productive is: yielding favorable or useful results; being constructive; effective in achieving specified
results. (There are also specialized meanings in economics, medicine and linguistics, but the main
meanings will do.)

Basilica In Jerusalem
By building the basilica in Jerusalem, Emperor Constantine caused a shift to take place in the lives of
Christians. This shift focused on how and where Christians worshipped. They no longer gathered in a
private religious association , but the basilica that Constantine commissioned became a solomon civic
ritual that drew larger numbers of populace into a shared public ceremony (Wilkin, 112). Built in the
Holy City, the Christian Jerusalem is described by Wilkin as a place that appears more holy because it
has brought to light proof of the suffering of the Savior (Wilkin, 111). Because a place, unlike bones,

Christian church was a small private dwellings without seating. Wilkin writes that the places where
the Christians gathered for worship evolved from the tombs of the holy men and women in the earliest
times, to a small shrine at the resting place of the apostle Peter in the second century to a constructed
catacomb in the third century. These catacombs allowed the Christians could bury their dead as well as
celebrate the Eucharist in close proximity to the remains of their loved ones. By the fourth century, in

High Stakes Testing In Schools Essay
Should our public schools continue to allow high stakes assessments, for example the FCAT, to play a
large factor in determining if a student has met mastery of grade level standards? Numerous students
do not test well due to nerves or other disabilities; some students even become ill which equates to
inaccurate test results. Additionally, testing is such an enormous process that students are losing out on
valuable classroom instruction. Finally, with students pending graduation or promotion to the next
grade these high stakes tests are forcing teachers to teach to the test to ensure greater success.
High stakes testing is a high pressure situation for any student at all grade levels. There are many
seniors ready to graduate but have not passed their final state assessment to meet that requirement or a
younger elementary student pending promotion to the next grade based on the results of the state

means you don t know what s going on in the story. In conclusion, while both stories have similar
cuisines, their settings and points of views are fairly different.

Musculoskeletal Disorders In Higher Education
The personal computer revolution has drasticallyaltered work system in offices and universities. This
multi computing device has now become an inevitable part of any VDT workstation. The ever
growing use of computer workstations in universities is fourfold (1)instructional (2) administrative (3)
research and (4) study purpose.
In universities, computers are being used for preparing lectures, presenting to the class, accessing and
analyzing numerous data available online, maintaining database of students, employees and
professors, making communication in the form of e mails or chat, browsing the Internet for necessary
information and to introduce oneself with the reality and veracity of the global job market to have the

Impact Of Dr. Seuss On Culture
The Impact of Theodor Seuss Geisel on American Culture The more that you read, the more things
you will know. The more that you learn, the more places you ll go (Seuss, 1990). Theodor Geisel,
better known as Dr. Seuss, is a well known children s author. Dr. Seuss wrote children s books during
the years 1937 1990, but during that time he also was a political cartoonist. For two years, 1941 1943,
Theodor Geisel was the chief editorial cartoonist for a New York newspaper (Minear, 2012). Theodor
Geisel was writing his fourth book, Horton Hatches the Egg, when it came to his attention that Paris
had fallen to the Nazis. He drew over 400 political cartoons during that time. His cartoons are about

Seuss is still having a huge influence on American culture. Dr. Seuss s books have a huge impact on
the world. Some of the books have been turned into movies like: The Cat in the Hat, The Lorax,
Horton Hears a Who, and How the Grinch Stole Christmas. It first was shown in nineteen sixty six. It
continues to be a very popular holiday program (Davis, 2006). Dr. Seuss added a name and virtually a
dictionary definition to our culture: Grinch: any sour, pessimistic person who dismisses love and
attempts to deprive others of happiness (Fensch, 2000). Movies are not the only way Dr. Seuss
impacts the world. Other way he impacts the world is through his museum. The Dr. Seuss museum
opened in 2016 in Springfield, Massachusetts. The Springfield Museums says the first floor is a family
friendly, interactive exhibits exploring Dr. Seuss s Springfield roots, and kids can learn new sounds
and vocabulary. The second floor, curated by Geisel s two step daughters and great nephew, recreates
Geisel s studio and living room (with the furniture and art materials he actually used) and features
never before publicly displayed art, family photographs and letters, and the original Geisel Grove sign
which used to hang in Forest Park (Museums, 2017). Dr. Seuss wrote many books that impact

Abstract Wireless Sensor Networks (WSN) introduce a new way to interact with the physical
environment. The security in WSNs became an attractive area of research. WSNs are susceptible to a
wide range of malicious attacks. At present ECC is considered for secure communications, which is
having good potential for WSN security due to its smaller key size and its high strength of security.
Unfortunately, the execution time of ECC is more which is not suitable for more number of
applications. A number of other security mechanisms have been proposed for sensor networks to
provide data confidentiality, namely Advanced Encryption Standard (AES) and Data Encryption
Standard (DES). In this paper, we propose an algorithm, which is compared and analyzed with the
existing ECC and AES to provide better security with authenticated sensor nodes. The authentication
is done with a secret code. The proposed algorithm will ensure the secure communication with
authenticated devices. The analysis results shows that the scheme works better than the common
existent schemes with better utilization of available memory.

Brain Scan Essay
The topic of brains scans, drug use and teenagers has been of much interest to many experimenters.
Drug use can be defined as continues use of alcohol, illegal drugs or the misuse of over the counter
drugs or prescription drugs leading to negative consequences. This is done by the use of brain scans,
including MRI scans; also know as magnetic resonance imaging. This type of brain scan allows
scientist to see detailed images of the organs and tissues within your body by a technique that uses a
magnetic field and radio waves. The magnetic field temporarily realigns hydrogen atoms in the body
and is able to show brain activity. The main point of this type of study is to help predict what a
teenagers drug use problem will be, if any, before it ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Just with a glance, the popular media article is one page long, briefly describing the participants,
methods, and results with little detail, while the empirical is eleven pages long going into detail about
the participants, methods, and results. The popular media article also uses people friendly language
that could be understood by anyone, whereas the empirical article uses more scientific vocabulary that
would make it harder for just anyone to understand if they had no knowledge in the field of
biopsychology. For example, the popular media article says on page one, This could mean that either
the drugs suppress their brain activity or less brain activity in the reward center leads them to take
drugs. In the empirical article it states, These findings suggest that diminished neural responses to
anticipated rewards in novelty seeking adolescents may increase vulnerability to future problematic
drug use. From reading these two sentences, the empirical article is wordier and contains phrases that
most people would not understand, such as, diminished neural responses. They re also different in that
the empirical article had more findings with statistics then the popular media article. Another
difference was the method of the study during the gathering of the neuroimaging data. For the popular
media article the researchers had the participants play a Monetary Incentive Delay Task during the
MRI scan while the empirical article had the participants to use a modified version of the Monetary
Incentive Delay task (MID), which had them pressing one of two buttons. Both articles are similar in
that they used one hundred and forty four adolescents. As well as the results, both articles came to the
conclusion that a decrease in amount of activity in the reward center will increase the vulnerability in

Radon Essay
Radon
Radon is a naturally occurring radioactive element that can be found in soil, underground water, and
outdoor air. Some of the properties of this gas include being odorless, tasteless, and colorless. The
concentrations vary throughout the country depending on the types of rocks that are found in the soil.
Exposure over prolonged periods of time to radon decay products has been associated with an
increased risk of lung cancer.(3) The EPA describes an elevated concentration as being at or above
their suggested guidelines of 4pCi/l
(pico Curies per liter, used as a radiation unit of measure for radon).
Exposures below this level may create a risk of lung cancer, farther reductions to lower levels may be
too difficult ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Uranium and its by products of decay, namely radon are abundant and are constantly being generated.
(13) Radon is capable of easily traveling through rocks and soil.(14) The gas is also found dissolved in
water, due to decay in the soil or rock below.(15)
Radon in Water
The risk from radon in water is much lower than the risk from radon in air. This is because the water
must be heated or agitated to release the gas.
This can happen in a shower, boiling water on a stove, or by using a washing machine. Most public
water supplies don t present a radon risk, this is because the water is aerated at the treatment site and
the gas escapes into the atmosphere. Most water that contains hazardous amounts of radon comes
from wells. Wells should be tested for radon if the building that they are supplying contains hazardous
amounts in the air. The testing procedures for water are different from those used on air.(16)
Water containing radon can usually be treated. The most effective treatment is to remove radon from
the water before it enters the home, this is called point of entry treatment. Water can also be treated at
the tap, this is known as point of use treatment. However this treatment is much less effective at
removing the risk.(17)
Radon Entry
Radon travels through the ground and into the air, allowing the gas to easily enter buildings and
homes.

Throughout this paper we will examine the many different functions of DJJ and how it attempts to
maintain a positive reputation as one of South Carolinas premiere public service agencies.
DJJ Overview
According to the South Carolina Department of Juvenile Justice (2011) website, DJJ is a state cabinet
agency, and by law it is also a treatment and rehabilitative agency for the state s juveniles. DJJ is
responsible for providing custodial care and rehabilitation for the state s children who are incarcerated,
on probation or parole, or in community placement for a criminal or status offense. DJJ s mission is to
protect the public and reclaim juveniles through acts of prevention, community programs, education,
and rehabilitative services in the least restrictive environment possible. DJJ is able to make their
mission a reality through aligning with a wide range of different divisions. The organizational
structure of DJJ is impeccable. They service juveniles, their families and the community through 43
county offices, and operating in all 46 of the state s counties. DJJ (2011) explains that, Case managers
are involved with juveniles from the moment they enter the system until they complete probation
and/or parole. In addition, they conduct detention screenings and intake interviews, complete
risk/needs assessments, and make recommendations to the family court judges regarding case
disposition. They also coordinate case diversion and supervise

The Auteur Theory In The 1960s
Auteur theory supports the director as a singular author of a film: this is a term that essentially means,
author comparable to a writer that is an author of a novel. Andrew Sarris, who is a film critic from the
US states, The strong director imposes his own personality on a film; the weak director allows the
personalities of others to run rampant. (Sarris, 1968) This suggests that a good director leaves his/her
personal signature or mark on his artwork, a distinct style or a constant theme throughout that will be
seen as unique in the film community. This could be achieved through the consistent use of similar
subject matter, related themes, repeated cast or a reoccurring visual and aesthetic style.

An extraordinary amount of structural art, emphasising colour, arrangements and grain, displays
evidently in every scene. His signature is seen through the challenging shots cinematography, and the
fantasy worlds in his narratives.
Colour palette
The Colour palettes in Anderson s films are significant as it can be used to recognise his films from
the rest. The frequent use of vibrant colours that occasionally clash with each other (yellow and
orange) constructs a theatre like a backdrop, eliminating it from the current period. It is no surprise
Anderson is passionate about the 50s/60s from his choice of props and complex theatre like set
designs, which isn t something we see in films today. An example would be in his film The Life
Aquatic; only half a set was built to allow the camera to transport freely to different rooms.
Collaborating
For many years, Anderson has gathered a great collaborative group of actors/actresses, which have
recurred in his past films. Casts, such as Owen Wilson, Bill Murray, Jeff Goldblum etc. This allows
Anderson to have great control over his work due to the cast being familiar with his directing style and
narratives. Also, he chooses to work with the same DOP (Robert Yeoman) and hasn t changed since.
Since Yeoman already recognises the director s preferences, this also allows the independence to
create a movie to his own personal

The Importance Of The English Revolution And The American...
English history played a major role in the American Revolution by introducing new and revolutionary
ideas to the public. Several events, such as the English Revolution and the restoration of the monarchy
also influenced the mindset during the war. The successful overthrow of Charles I and the attempted
establishment of an English republic probably inspired many colonists to fight against King George III
s tyranny. Enlightenment ideals such as social contract and basic rights also influenced the war. The
colonists felt that King George III was violating their right to privacy, assembly, and speech.
Therefore, the colonists had the right to revolt because the government was failing its main purpose
according to social contract. British tax and economic policies such as the Stamp Act, Townshend Act,
Sugar Act, and the Navigation Acts angered colonists. They believed the Parliament had no right to
impose these taxes and laws on them because the colonists weren t represented in government. As a
result, several Sons of Liberty members, disguised as Native Americans, boarded a British cargo ship
and dumped tea into the Boston Harbor as protest. Angered by the act, Parliament passed the
Intolerable Acts (Coercive Acts), punishing the Bostonians for the Boston Tea Party by blockading the
Boston Harbor until restitution was made for the tea. The colonists also resented the Navigation Acts,
which effectively created a British trading monopoly. Cheap items were often highly taxed,

Donald Hall Poetry Essay
A Collection of Poems by Donald Hall In his collection of poems, The Back Chamber, Donald Hall
writes poems inspired by his memories of the past and thoughts regarding his future. On September
20, 1928, Hall was born in Hamden, Connecticut. Throughout his childhood, Hall was influenced by
the works of the American writer, Edgar Allen Poe ( Donald Hall ). When he was only sixteen, Hall
had his first poem published. He studied at Harvard University, University of Oxford, and Stanford
University. In 1957, he began teaching English at the University of Michigan. After meeting his wife
at the University of Michigan, the couple moved back to his grandfather s farm where he had spent
many summers as a boy. Both he and his wife suffered from cancer. ... Show more content on

His careful attention to detail allows him to captivate readers whether he is employing structured
rhyme, meter, blank verse, or prose ( Donald Hall ). Many of his poems are inspired by his childhood
on the farm, love for his wife, and his reflections on old age and death.
In an interview with psychiatrist John Martin Joy, Hall addresses poetry, aging, and loss. Hall chooses
to view aging in a positive light, and although he has stopped publishing his poetry, he continues to
write because of the joy it brings to his life. In addition, he explains the crippling depression both him
and his wife faced, especially after her death. When the interviewer had asked him if he was afraid of
death, he responded, At eighty seven only an idiot would be afraid of death adding some humor to a
serious matter (John, Martin Joy).
After reading, The Back Chamber written by Donald Hall, I can appreciate his use of concrete words
and images. His poems were easy to understand and compelling. The subject matter he chose for this
collection of poems includes childhood memories on the farm, love, sex, baseball, and his experiences
with old age. Although the inside of the cover claims that the book is far from being death haunted , I
found many of the poems rather depressing because of their nostalgic reflection on old age and dying
(Hall, Donald). Despite these emotions, the structure, language, and music of poetry was

The Mohammed And The Prophet
Also, in a longer hadith, the Prophet (pbuh) said that the salah (prayer) is a light, and charity is a
proof, and patience is illumination. In one hadith from al Bukhari and Sahih Muslim, it is reported that
the Prophet (pbuh) said, None of you [truly] believes until he loves for his brother that which he loves
for himself. In another hadith, the Prophet said Let him who believes in Allah and the Last Day speak
good, or keep silent; and let him who believes in Allah and the Last Day be generous to his neighbour;
and let him who believes in Allah and the Last Day be generous to his guest. In another hadith, a man
asked the Prophet (pbuh) for counsel and the Messenger (pbuh) answered several times by saying Do
not become angry. From 40 Hadith Nawawi 24, the Prophet is reported saying that God said, O My
servants! I have forbidden dhulm (oppression) for Myself, and I have made it forbidden amongst you,
so do not oppress one another. In another from Sahih Muslim, the Prophet (pbuh) said, Do not envy
one another, and do not inflate prices for one another, and do not hate one another, and do not turn
away from one another, and do not undercut one another in trade, but [rather] be slaves of Allah and
brothers [amongst yourselves]. A Muslim is the brother of a Muslim: he does not oppress him, nor
does he fail him, nor does he lie to him, nor does he hold him in contempt. Taqwa (piety) is right here

  • 11. Analysis Of Narrative Of The Life Of Frederick Douglass Reid Champlin Mrs. Stack AP English, Period 7 14 August 2015 In His Own Words: Analysis of The Narrative of the Life of Frederick Douglass They say that one can never fully understand a situation until he/she is put into that scenario themselves. Too often, history is written by those who have only read and researched the issues, remaining distant and objective to get all the facts straight. While there is honor in this approach, one cannot experience the horror of war, the thrill of victory, or the reality of a situation if written from a third person perspective. No, history is best told by those who have participated in it: the soldiers who crawled through the muddy trenches, the revelers who celebrated the great national victory, or the people who did not witness history, but made it. Particularly on the issue of slavery, copious amounts of writing exist on both the pro slavery and anti slavery side from scholars, politicians, and citizens supporting their views, but very little exists from the perspective of slaves and former slaves. This in part is what makes The Narrative of the Life of Frederick Douglass, an autobiography of former slave and abolitionist Frederick Douglass, so incredible and valuable to the American audience. Speaking with authority as one who has experienced slavery firsthand, the self educated Douglass exquisitely manipulates a bevy of literary devices, such as setting, writing style, and allegory, to illustrate the horrors of slavery and form a ... The more that you learn, the more places you ll go (Seuss, 1990). Theodor Geisel, better known as Dr. Seuss, is a well known children s author. Dr. Seuss wrote children s books during the years 1937 1990, but during that time he also was a political cartoonist. For two years, 1941 1943, Theodor Geisel was the chief editorial cartoonist for a New York newspaper (Minear, 2012). Theodor Geisel was writing his fourth book, Horton Hatches the Egg, when it came to his attention that Paris had fallen to the Nazis. He drew over 400 political cartoons during that time. Some of the books have been turned into movies like: The Cat in the Hat, The Lorax, Horton Hears a Who, and How the Grinch Stole Christmas. It first was shown in nineteen sixty six. It continues to be a very popular holiday program (Davis, 2006). Dr. Seuss added a name and virtually a dictionary definition to our culture: Grinch: any sour, pessimistic person who dismisses love and attempts to deprive others of happiness (Fensch, 2000). Movies are not the only way Dr. Seuss impacts the world. Other way he impacts the world is through his museum. The Dr. Seuss museum opened in 2016 in Springfield, Massachusetts. The Springfield Museums says the first floor is a family friendly, interactive exhibits exploring Dr. Seuss s Springfield roots, and kids can learn new sounds and vocabulary. The second floor, curated by Geisel s two step daughters and great nephew, recreates Geisel s studio and living room (with the furniture and art materials he actually used) and features never before publicly displayed art, family photographs and letters, and the original Geisel Grove sign which used to hang in Forest Park (Museums, 2017). A Simple, Fast and Memory Efficient Algorithm for Secure Communications in Wireless Sensor Networks Anusha Peddigari, Archana Tandra and L.K. Suresh Kumar Department of Computer Science and Engineering, University College of Engineering, Osmania University, Hyderabad. Email: suresh.lokhande, anushapeddigari94, archanatandra95 {@gmail.com} Abstract Wireless Sensor Networks (WSN) introduce a new way to interact with the physical environment. The security in WSNs became an attractive area of research. WSNs are susceptible to a wide range of malicious attacks. At present ECC is considered for secure communications, which is having good potential for WSN security due to its smaller key size and its high strength of security. Unfortunately, the execution time of ECC is more which is not suitable for more number of applications. A number of other security mechanisms have been proposed for sensor networks to provide data confidentiality, namely Advanced Encryption Standard (AES) and Data Encryption Standard (DES). In this paper, we propose an algorithm, which is compared and analyzed with the existing ECC and AES to provide better security with authenticated sensor nodes. The authentication is done with a secret code. The proposed algorithm will ensure the secure communication with authenticated devices. The analysis results shows that the scheme works better than the common existent schemes with better utilization of available memory. Keywords Elliptic Curve Cryptography, ... • 25. Brain Scan Essay The topic of brains scans, drug use and teenagers has been of much interest to many experimenters. Drug use can be defined as continues use of alcohol, illegal drugs or the misuse of over the counter drugs or prescription drugs leading to negative consequences. This is done by the use of brain scans, including MRI scans; also know as magnetic resonance imaging. This type of brain scan allows scientist to see detailed images of the organs and tissues within your body by a technique that uses a magnetic field and radio waves. The magnetic field temporarily realigns hydrogen atoms in the body and is able to show brain activity. The main point of this type of study is to help predict what a teenagers drug use problem will be, if any, before it ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Just with a glance, the popular media article is one page long, briefly describing the participants, methods, and results with little detail, while the empirical is eleven pages long going into detail about the participants, methods, and results. The popular media article also uses people friendly language that could be understood by anyone, whereas the empirical article uses more scientific vocabulary that would make it harder for just anyone to understand if they had no knowledge in the field of biopsychology. For example, the popular media article says on page one, This could mean that either the drugs suppress their brain activity or less brain activity in the reward center leads them to take drugs. In the empirical article it states, These findings suggest that diminished neural responses to anticipated rewards in novelty seeking adolescents may increase vulnerability to future problematic drug use. From reading these two sentences, the empirical article is wordier and contains phrases that most people would not understand, such as, diminished neural responses. They re also different in that the empirical article had more findings with statistics then the popular media article. Another difference was the method of the study during the gathering of the neuroimaging data. For the popular media article the researchers had the participants play a Monetary Incentive Delay Task during the MRI scan while the empirical article had the participants to use a modified version of the Monetary Incentive Delay task (MID), which had them pressing one of two buttons. Both articles are similar in that they used one hundred and forty four adolescents. As well as the results, both articles came to the conclusion that a decrease in amount of activity in the reward center will increase the vulnerability in ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 26. Radon Essay Radon Radon is a naturally occurring radioactive element that can be found in soil, underground water, and outdoor air. Some of the properties of this gas include being odorless, tasteless, and colorless. The concentrations vary throughout the country depending on the types of rocks that are found in the soil. Exposure over prolonged periods of time to radon decay products has been associated with an increased risk of lung cancer.(3) The EPA describes an elevated concentration as being at or above their suggested guidelines of 4pCi/l (pico Curies per liter, used as a radiation unit of measure for radon). Exposures below this level may create a risk of lung cancer, farther reductions to lower levels may be too difficult ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Uranium and its by products of decay, namely radon are abundant and are constantly being generated. (13) Radon is capable of easily traveling through rocks and soil.(14) The gas is also found dissolved in water, due to decay in the soil or rock below.(15) Radon in Water The risk from radon in water is much lower than the risk from radon in air. This is because the water must be heated or agitated to release the gas. This can happen in a shower, boiling water on a stove, or by using a washing machine. Most public water supplies don t present a radon risk, this is because the water is aerated at the treatment site and the gas escapes into the atmosphere. Most water that contains hazardous amounts of radon comes from wells. Wells should be tested for radon if the building that they are supplying contains hazardous amounts in the air. The testing procedures for water are different from those used on air.(16) Water containing radon can usually be treated. The most effective treatment is to remove radon from the water before it enters the home, this is called point of entry treatment. Water can also be treated at the tap, this is known as point of use treatment. However this treatment is much less effective at removing the risk.(17) Radon Entry Radon travels through the ground and into the air, allowing the gas to easily enter buildings and homes. ... • 28. The Auteur Theory In The 1960s Auteur theory supports the director as a singular author of a film: this is a term that essentially means, author comparable to a writer that is an author of a novel. Andrew Sarris, who is a film critic from the US states, The strong director imposes his own personality on a film; the weak director allows the personalities of others to run rampant. (Sarris, 1968) This suggests that a good director leaves his/her personal signature or mark on his artwork, a distinct style or a constant theme throughout that will be seen as unique in the film community. This could be achieved through the consistent use of similar subject matter, related themes, repeated cast or a reoccurring visual and aesthetic style. The History The significance of ... His signature is seen through the challenging shots cinematography, and the fantasy worlds in his narratives. Colour palette The Colour palettes in Anderson s films are significant as it can be used to recognise his films from the rest. The frequent use of vibrant colours that occasionally clash with each other (yellow and orange) constructs a theatre like a backdrop, eliminating it from the current period. It is no surprise Anderson is passionate about the 50s/60s from his choice of props and complex theatre like set designs, which isn t something we see in films today. An example would be in his film The Life Aquatic; only half a set was built to allow the camera to transport freely to different rooms. Collaborating For many years, Anderson has gathered a great collaborative group of actors/actresses, which have recurred in his past films. Casts, such as Owen Wilson, Bill Murray, Jeff Goldblum etc. This allows Anderson to have great control over his work due to the cast being familiar with his directing style and narratives. Also, he chooses to work with the same DOP (Robert Yeoman) and hasn t changed since. • 29. The Importance Of The English Revolution And The American... English history played a major role in the American Revolution by introducing new and revolutionary ideas to the public. Several events, such as the English Revolution and the restoration of the monarchy also influenced the mindset during the war. The successful overthrow of Charles I and the attempted establishment of an English republic probably inspired many colonists to fight against King George III s tyranny. Enlightenment ideals such as social contract and basic rights also influenced the war. The colonists felt that King George III was violating their right to privacy, assembly, and speech. Therefore, the colonists had the right to revolt because the government was failing its main purpose according to social contract. British tax and economic policies such as the Stamp Act, Townshend Act, Sugar Act, and the Navigation Acts angered colonists. They believed the Parliament had no right to impose these taxes and laws on them because the colonists weren t represented in government. As a result, several Sons of Liberty members, disguised as Native Americans, boarded a British cargo ship and dumped tea into the Boston Harbor as protest. Angered by the act, Parliament passed the Intolerable Acts (Coercive Acts), punishing the Bostonians for the Boston Tea Party by blockading the Boston Harbor until restitution was made for the tea. The colonists also resented the Navigation Acts, which effectively created a British trading monopoly. Cheap items were often highly taxed, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Many of his poems are inspired by his childhood on the farm, love for his wife, and his reflections on old age and death. In an interview with psychiatrist John Martin Joy, Hall addresses poetry, aging, and loss. Hall chooses to view aging in a positive light, and although he has stopped publishing his poetry, he continues to write because of the joy it brings to his life. In addition, he explains the crippling depression both him and his wife faced, especially after her death. When the interviewer had asked him if he was afraid of death, he responded, At eighty seven only an idiot would be afraid of death adding some humor to a serious matter (John, Martin Joy). After reading, The Back Chamber written by Donald Hall, I can appreciate his use of concrete words and images. His poems were easy to understand and compelling. The subject matter he chose for this collection of poems includes childhood memories on the farm, love, sex, baseball, and his experiences with old age. Although the inside of the cover claims that the book is far from being death haunted , I found many of the poems rather depressing because of their nostalgic reflection on old age and dying (Hall, Donald).
