War from the 16th and 17th Century to Invention of Gunpowder
WAR FROM THE 16TH AND 17TH CENTURY TO INVENTION OF GUNPOWDER
The invention of the powerful artillery guns would change man s role in warring engagements. The
artillery guns at first were very limited by their own design. The guns were very heavy and had to be
transported by water, which meant that only towns and fortresses that were close to a body of water
could be attacked with artillery also known as the cannon. There were also some fortresses that were
impervious to the early cannon attacks based on strong designs or natural defenses. The French were
able to penetrate the round shaped castles and large walls during the late 1400s by using concentrated
fire of several small guns instead of a few large ones. A new design of ... Show more content on

The problem with recruitment was solved in many ways. The most common method of enlistment was
actually through volunteering, but other men were forced to serve as well. The volunteers were
attracted to service because of the money, and recruits joined from the mountains, towns, and even in
war zones and the majority of them consisted of peasants or townsmen that needed work. Many men
joined the army to escape the life of their father s work, to avoid criminal prosecution, to see more of
the world, or to pursue honor. In addition to the volunteers, the governments also used forceful means
of enlistment by recruiting an entire population of an area as a unit and forcing them to fight together.
Other forms of forced recruiting included soldiers of defeated armies and the use of conscripts. The
most sought after combat soldier was the veteran and many times a veteran would move from army to
army depending on which one would make him the most money. Financing the large organizations
was no easy task when so many mouths had to be feed, clothed, and armed. Not only were there a lot
of soldiers, but the price of weaponry was increasing as well. Combat basically comes down to one
thing, money; and the army that could last the longest was eventually able to wear down the enemy
instead of having to destroy their armies. Many times the kings of the 1700s would devote anywhere
from 75 to 90 percent of

Emily Rose Exorcism
The Exorcism of Emily Rose precise (Primary Source): The Movie of the Exorcism of Emily Rose is a
horror film that was written and directed in 2005 by a Christian follower: Scott Derrickson. The plot
of the film is about a nineteen year old girl whom is possessed by six demons: Cain, Nero, Judas
Iscariot, Legion, Belial, Lucifer. Scott Derrickson wrote intent was to capture the true events that lead
to Anneliese Michel s death of hunger. Due to the Scott Derrickson s religious background and the
trial that took place after the death of Anneliese Michel; the films intended audience would be for
parishioners, Law and Order fans horror film enthusiast, and religious non believers. The message of
the film wasn t to challenges people s ideas and thoughts of Demons. As Scott Derrickson states: I
wanted to make an effective, entertaining, provocative movie that wasn t attempting to offer the
audience metaphysical or spiritual answers, but was provoking significant religious and spiritual
questions. That is the agenda of the film (SPU Response) . In an attempt to prove the existence of
demons, the film illustrates the Blessed Holy ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Within the film, Emily Rose was given an option to either go with the Virgin Mary, which would have
been death, or to remain alive and show the world that demons are real by continuing to suffer. The
sequence of the film is well organized and presents it s the audience with the back and forth facts of
the accounts of Demons within the courtroom drama, present time, and the flashback sequence of
Emily Roses demonic possessions. The movie ends with Emily Roses priest being found guilty of
negligent homicide, however, was free to walk out of the court room. In the end good, good triumphed

A Brief Look at Guantanamo Bay
today Guantanamo Bay has been a big topic in today s society. On his campaign trail, President
Obama pledged, I will close Guantanamo bay detention center within a year of being elected . My
main argument has to be the amount of money were wasting on this prison. To be specific according to
democratic lawmakers it has skyrocketed to $2.7 million per inmate. Guantanamo has been dubbed
the most expensive prison on earth. President Barack Obama in May citied its cost then calculated at
about $900,000 per prisoner. That s one of the many reasons to close it. My evidence supports my
topic sentence because it just states fact of why this expensive prison should be shut down. It s
common sense would you rather have all the money the tax payers ... Show more content on

Seems unfair right? But if that doesn t convince you that this prison is worthless then this might. The
pentagon wants to more improvements on the prison and spend more of YOUR hard working money. I
guarantee you that the shutdown of this prison will bring a lot of great benefits. First the spending of
ridiculous money on a prison will be out of the picture. Second the boycotts in front of the white
house and government building will stop. People that want this prison close will do everything they
can to get it shut down and create something more productive that can benefit everyone in the United
States for the future.
Even though my main argument has to be the amount of money we re wasting on this prison, they
should close down the prison because we can t be wasting that much money on inmates that should be
dead. The United State citizens who are paying from their taxes are not agreeing with this prison
instead of wasting the money on that they can help the economy boost back up.
The most important reason they should close the prison down has to be the amount of money we are
wasting on it. We waste $2.7 million dollars a year on EACH inmate. If this doesn t seem legit all the
money budget can be found very quickly. We need all our money to go to us and help us boost up our
economy. The prison isn t worth keeping and having those inmates being kept there.
The smart thing to do in a scenario like this has to be is shutting the prison down and save our money

The Between The Scottish And Chinese Products
In January of 2010, Mr. Li Kequiang who was vice premier of the state council of China contacted
Pelamis Wave Power Corporation in Scotland for a visit. The purpose of this visit was to view a
project that converted the kinetic wave energy of the ocean into electrical energy. Li was accompanied
by many senior Chinese officials during this visit, which totaled about sixty people. Two months later
there was a break in of the building Pelamis occupied, and five laptops containing design information
were stolen. The interesting thing in this case was that the burglars skipped the first floor occupants,
who were the Siemens Corporation, and went straight to Pelamis. A few years later the Chinese
produced a similar project called the Hailong 1. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Note that the terms of corporate and industrial espionage are used interchangeably in my research.
One may wonder what the roots of competitive intelligence, intellectual espionage, and reverse
engineering are. On the surface, it may seem clear that there is a distinction between competitive
intelligence and corporate espionage. One is gained legally, as a means of retaining corporate
relevance, while the other is gained illegally and at in some cases in an indignant fashion [4].
According to David Blenkhorn, a professor at Wilfrid Laurier University, this topic is not
appropriately discussed in universities today. It is not clear or obvious how one should treat corporate
intelligence ethically, as cultural viewpoints skew the morality of the situation. It certainly could be
argued that this information gathering is a necessary and sufficient means to an end. Dr. Blenkhorn
notes that there is a generally accepted ethical view with respect to information gathering in Europe
and North America, but in other countries, this perspective is quite different. To some degree this may
be a normalization of deviance, where over time, such actions are simply accepted as a means of
holding a business or national security edge, and thus over time becomes ingrained into the culture.
Interestingly, according to Professor Blenkhorn, one of his students from Russia was taught how to
conduct industrial

Physician Assisted Suicide Analysis
Brittany Maynard was a 29 year old female who was diagnosed with brain cancer with less than six
months to live. She decided that instead of suffering, she wanted to follow through with Physician
Assisted Suicide (PAS), according to Kayla Asbury in her story, The Right to Die: Benefits of
Physician Assisted Suicide. If you were in the same situation Maynard was in, what would you do?
Would you suffer until your last dying breath, or would you put yourself out of that misery and ask for
PAS?
Physician Assisted Suicide has been a very controversial topic for many years. The major spark of the
controversy was when Maynard lived in California when she was first diagnosed, but then moved to
Oregon to take her own life. According to the Merriam Webster ... Show more content on

He believes that Physician Assisted Suicide would take advantage of patients, it ruins medicine and
the relationships between patients and doctors, it s a violation of family values, and it deceives human
dignity (Anderson). However, when the patient is asking for assisted suicide, there is no proof that
performing PAS abuses patients. Along with the fact that there is a protocol that has to be taken in
order for the patient to receive the drugs to end their life. Next, it doesn t ruin the relationship between
the doctor and the patient because the patient would have to trust the doctor enough to tell them about
their feelings, along with the fact that the doctor doesn t force the patient to take the medication. As
well as the fact that PAS is the next step in medicine until researchers have a breakthrough and cure
cancers. No doubt, it could compromise families; however, in most cases, the families are supportive
through the process. In fact, Asbury states, Physician assisted suicide also lessens suffering for the
family and friends of terminally ill patients (Asbury). Meanwhile, those against PAS proclaim that
PAS deceives dying with dignity, but what they don t realize is that when the patient is dying, he or
she wants to die in a way that everyone will remember them in the way that the person was before
they became sick. They want to be remembered in an

Racial Disparities
Racial disparities in HIV incidence were examined by both Des Jarlais et al. and Scheer et al. The
main objective for Des Jarlais et al. was to identify disparities in HIV incidence during a time period
where the HIV epidemic has come to an end. On the other hand, Scheer et al. aimed to estimate the
HIV incidence in the state of California in order to prioritize certain populations for HIV prevention
and treatment. Participants in Des Jarlais et al. were individuals who were admitted into a drug
detoxification program in New York City while Scheer et al. used people living in California aged 13
years or older. To collect data, Des Jarlais et al. utilized a computer assisted questionnaire to gather
demographics and risk behavior information. Only individuals who had been injecting drugs within
the past 6 months were included in the study. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Scheer et al. was able to get data on HIV incidence from the Los Angeles Country, San Franscisco
Department, and California Department of Public Health. Each jurisdiction estimated HIV incidence
using Serologic Testing Algorithm for Recent Seroconversion (STARHS) which is a test that

incidence rate for African Americans and Latinos to be twice that of whites (4 per 10,000 versus 2 per
10,000 a year). This could be attributed to the more frequent drug injections used by African
Americans which was also reported in the results. Results from Scheer et al. found similar results with
African Americans experiencing an incidence rate twice that of whites. However, Latino s had an HIV
incidence similar to whites. While both articles reported important information, each had limitations.

Boarding Schools Affected Native American Life
How Boarding Schools Came To Be In American history, many things have affected Native American
life and one of the biggest ones was boarding schools being created. Boarding schools may not seem
like a very big deal but has affected a large part of Native American life. In the time prior to these
schools being created, the American government s main issue was finding a place to move Native
Americans to, since their homelands were now under the control of the government. Eventually, the
tens of thousands of native americans were put onto designated lands called reservations and attended
boarding schools. Many Native Americans remember this time as nothing but abuse and desecration of
their culture. Boarding schools greatly affected and influenced the life of tens of thousands of native
americans during this time period but their lasting effects are still carried into today (Bear 2008). One
man in particular, Floyd Red Crow Westerman, who was an Indian activist, publicly recalls how he
was haunted by his memories of boarding school. He was forced to leave his reservation in South
Dakota and go to the Wahpeton Indian Boarding School in North Dakota when he was just a child, but

housekeeping for girls. Although malnourishment, abuse, and forced labor was prominent in some
schools, not all children had these negative experiences in their schools. Some Native Americans have
good memories of meeting spouses and making lifelong friends (Bear

Argumentative Essay On Medea
Commonly considered one of Euripides greatest pieces, Medea is an insightful depiction of how a
woman s love for her husband, churns into a gruesome revenge scheme against him. This tragedy
illustrates a tale of a woman who challenges Greek societal norms. In the era that the story takes place;
women are often seen in submissive roles. However, the play s main character, Medea, challenges
their customs through her actions against the Kingdom of Corinth and Jason.
When Medea s husband, Jason, plans to marry Glauce, a daughter of King Creon, for wealth and
power over the kingdom, Medea becomes angry with Jason for breaking their vows of eternal love.
She decides the best way to hurt Jason was by murdering his bride to be and their own two children. ...

There are several points in the play where Medea could have been stopped. For instance, in the
opening scene when the Nurse lectures Medea, she should have suggested for Medea to murder her
husband and immediately flee the land. At that point, the Nurse see s Medea s children s lives at risk
and has the opportunity to save them by reverting the vengeful act onto the perpetrator and not
innocent children. However, the Nurse was unable to stop her at that time since she only had a feeling
and no confirmation on Medea s exact scheme. Another time Medea could have been stopped is when
she was making a speech to the Chorus on her revenge against Jason and the Kingdom of Corinth. If
they organized as a group, they could have turned Medea into the Kingdom s military authority s
before she acted, thus, saving everyone in the play s life. Unfortunately, this was not accomplished
because Medea persuaded the Chorus to swear not to speak on or act against her plan. Lastly, when
Aegeus, the King of Athens, finds Medea on his return to Athens, after hearing how Jason has
wronged her, he could have persuaded her not to commit murder and to flee to Athens with him a long
with her children. This would stop Medea from committing the murders by removing her from the
country, including her children, which would prevent them from her fear of slavery or execution. If I
were in the play, I would have tried to intercept the delivery of the diadem and robe by

Today s Juvenile Court System Essay
Today s juvenile court system handles most cases involving those under the age of 18 year old. This
was not always the case and the ideal of a separate court system for adults and children is only about
100 years old. When looking at the differences that set juvenile courts apart, it is important to study
the history and see how it developed over time.
The movement to separate children from adults in the court system can be traced back to English
common law, just like most of America s criminal justice system. English lawyer William Blackstone
had a significant influence on the separation of Juvenile and adult courts. Blackstone s Commentaries
on the Laws of England, that was first published in the late 1760 s, was widely read and well regarded
by the founders of America (History of Juvenile Justice). In Blackstone s book, he identified
individuals who were considered incapable of committing crimes (History of Juvenile Justice). Two
requirement needed to be met in order for someone to commit a crime. First, the individual had to
have a vicious will , or the intent to commit a crime (History of Juvenile Justice). Second, the
individual had to commit the crime. Blackstone then when on to state that one group of people who
were unable to commit a crime were called infants (History of Juvenile Justice). These people where
not literality infant or babies, but people too young to understand their actions, and therefore lacked
the vicious will needed to commit a crime. At

Barbara Gordon And Moral Perfectionism
In the essay Barbara Gordon and Moral Perfectionism, James B. South makes a point that to reach
moral perfection that person needs an exemplar (South 90) or mentor to model themselves after but
ultimately they need to find their own version of moral perfection. This is a path that many people try
to follow but there is always another level to achieve a higher understanding of morality. South goes
into how Barbara becomes Batgirl when she saves Bruce Wayne from a villain that crashed a costume
party that she was attending. At this party she dressed at a bat to annoy her father, who she feels is
holding her back from a more fulfilling life and also because she looked up to the figure of Batman

Teen Drama Analysis
The Era of the Teen Drama (Part 1)
Picking a good television show to binge watch on Netflix, Hulu, Amazon, or even ordering a DVD
boxed set (we re all guilty of it), everything. You know ten minutes in if you re going to like it or not
enough to fully make the commitment. Most binge watching begins and ends with none other than the
teen drama.
This concept of the teen drama is not a foreign one, and there is something about teens with insane,
over dramatic lives that has everyone hooked.
It all started in 1990, when the first show to ever be classified as a teen drama was put into our hearts
and television screens. That is Beverley Hills 90210. The show ran from
1990 to 2000, and it followed a group of friends, living in Beverley Hills and making the ... Show

Of course there was a maximum amount of drama. Between friends dating friends (and breaking up),
drugs, alcohol, jobs across the world, there was nothing that couldn t keep its viewers hooked into the
lives of these teens.
The next show that came about was basically set up to live onto the teen drama name
(or fame.) That show is none other than Dawson s Creek. Dawson s Creek is a show that if you are a
tv show/ teen drama junky, you have to have it under your belt.
It starts out as a classic coming of age, two best friends in high school, trying to make the transition
from best friends to lovers, without it being awkward. However, there are major twists and turns, the
girl next door who without intention mixes up the love interests, and the other boy friend who is just
trying to find himself but actually finds love. Dawson s Creek has pretty much everything you want in
a teen drama. Even though it is a few years old by now, and can seem a little dated, it is just like the
ones from current time that we tv junkies love, (One Tree Hill, and Gossip Girl, to name a few.) There
are long drawn out love speeches from your favorite characters, you trying to figure out

The reason we cannot breathe liquid water is because the oxygen we use to make the water is
guaranteed to two hydrogen atoms, and we cannot breathe the resultant liquid. The oxygen is unusable
to our lungs in this form. Humans cannot breathe because our lungs do not have enough surface area
to absorb enough oxygen form water, and the coating in our lungs is modified to handle air rather than
water. There have been experiments with humans breathing other liquids like fluorocarbons. A
fluorocarbon is a compound formed by replacing one or more of the hydrogen atoms in a hydrocarbon
with fluorine atoms. Fluorocarbons can dissolve enough oxygen and our lungs can draw the oxygen
out. Fish breathe oxygen dissolved in water with the help of their gills. Fish have gills and why this
works is because fishes are cold blooded and this reduces oxygen loads. Warm blooded animals like
whales breathe air just as we humans do, as it is hard to extract enough oxygen using their gills.

Symptoms Of Sciatica Research Paper
Treat Sciatica Pain with Easy Yoga Exercises
Sciatic Nerve Actually, the largest nerve in our body is the sciatic nerve or ischiadic nerve. The
beginning of this nerve is in the lower part of the back. It continues down the back of each leg. It is
composed of nerve roots which start from the spine in the lower back.
Sciatica
Sciatica is a symptom of a medical condition. It is not a disease. The symptoms of sciatica are:
Pain in the lower back and in the back of the leg (usually just in one leg)
The pain increases while sitting
Burning feeling down the leg
Numbness in the leg or the foot
Inability to move the leg or the foot
Inability to stand or walk for a long period

Transmissible Spongiform Encephalopathies
Transmissible spongiform encephalopathies (TSEs), or Prion diseases, are a group of
neurodegenerative disorders which include but is not limited to kuru, Creutzfeldt Jakob disease (CJD),
Gerstmann Sträussler Scheinker (GSS) syndrome, and fatal familial insomnia in men, natural scrapie
in sheep, goats and mufflons. The first records of neurodegenerative disease which would later be
linked to Prions were made about two hundred years ago. It was in the 1950 s it was discovered that
Prion disease could be transmitted horizontally, in addition to being inheritable and spontaneous.
These findings were sought out by isolated tribes of the New Guinea that were suffering from high
prevalence of a particular TST called Kuru. Some additional history of Prion disease dates back to the
1980 s when an increasing number of cows in the UK became infected with Mad Cow Disease also
known as Bovine Spongiform Encephalopathy. This unfortunate epidemic was traced back to a food
supplement that was fed to the cows, this supplement contained mean and bone meal from dead sheep.
A speculation was then drawn that the BSE had been a result of the sheep that had suffered from
scrapie, which is a sheep specific Prion disease. As a result it was decided by the British government
that the banning of animal derived feed supplements. This helped to decrease the disease of cattle
which subsequently disrupted the spread of the disease amongst livestock and animals.

Great Expectations Social Commentary Essay
Title That s just what happens when you re rich and you don t have a job, you get crazy. This line,
spoken by Zoey Murphy in Dear Evan Hansen, could not have fit the ideas stated in Great
Expectations any better. One of the major ideas conveyed consistently throughout Great Expectations
is of never being satisfied, and the constant desire for wealth and fame. Also indirectly relayed
through the novel very often is Charles Dicken s social commentary. He looks down upon the desire
for wealth and fame, and this is disguised through his descriptions of the middle class s goal of
becoming high class, and high class mannerisms. This can also be connected to the 21st century. One
of Dicken s main points on social commentary has to do with the ... Show more content on

One great example of this is the way Mrs. Pocket handles her baby. Usually the nurses or her other
daughter Jane take care of the baby, so when Mrs. Pocket takes care of the baby, it is humorous to the
reader. When society first sees her handle the baby, Mrs. Pocket took it the other way, and got its head
upon the table; which was announced to all resent by a prodigious concussion (Dickens 179). It is
clear that Mrs. Pocket doesn t know how to care for her baby, and while laughable, this is also a very
sad situation. It was her baby that she gave birth to, and she doesn t even know how to hold it!
Dickens is clearly making fun of the higher class and how heavily they rely on hired help to take care
of their children. This is seen again later in the chapter. At this point, she is helpless in her attempts of
taking care of the baby. Dickens writes, Into Mrs. Pocket s lap, and gave it the nutcrackers to play
with...forgetting all about the baby on her lap: who did most appalling things with the nutcrackers
(Dickens 179 180). This is an obvious lack of parental nurturing in the Pocket home, and this is an
effect of their wealth and heavy reliance on servants. Dickens makes another point against the upper
class when he shows Pip s lack of control after receiving his sum. Dickens writes, We spent as much
money as we could, and got as little for it as people could make up their minds to give us (Dickens
256). Pip is clearly in panic when he receives such a large sum of money. Due to this, he loses control
and does what he has always wished to do: spend it all! He doesn t know anything else. As an effect of
receiving so much money, Pip spends it impulsively on silly things, such as the gentlemen s society. In
summary, Dickens poked fun at the upper class s mannerisms throughout the entire

To be able to attract Chinese tourists it is also necessary to look at what motivates Chinese tourists to
travel so that these motivations and through them the activities can be marketed by Odense City. 2
The research undertaken
The paper was supposed to be supported by an online survey among young Chinese on their
willingness to use the internet as a travel information source and vacation booking tool as well as a
short section on their knowledge of Denmark and their previous travel experience and their hope for
their future travels. However, the online survey was distributed via Facebook and Twitter, but the
Chinese government blocked the access to the internet at the time of data collection and only 9
respondents answered before access was cut off. This means that the survey results are not reliable and
cannot be used to illustrate and enlighten us on Chinese tourists internet usage and preferences.
Therefore the focus of the paper was changed to emphasize past studies of Chinese outbound tourists
and their travel motivations. Through this analysis

The Road Not Taken by Robert Frost Essay
The Road Not Taken by Robert Frost
In Robert Frost s The Road Not Taken, (reprinted in Laurence Perrine and Thomas R. Arp, Sound and
Senses, 8th ed. [San Diego: Harcourt, 1992] 23) the speaker stands in the woods, considering a fork in
the road. Both ways are equally worn, and equally overlaid with un trodden leaves. The speaker
chooses one, telling himself that he will take the other another day. Yet he knows it is unlikely that he
will have the opportunity to do so. And he admits that someday in the future he will recreate the scene
with a slight twist: he will claim that he took the less traveled road. The whole poem is an extended
metaphor, where Frost describes a path in the woods that is directly comparable to a major ... Show

Frost presents to the reader a man s decision, at a turning point in his life, symbolized by two roads
diverged in a yellow wood.
In the first line, Frost introduces the elements of his primary metaphor: the diverging roads. The
speaker expresses his regret that [he] could not travel both (line 2). The choice is not easily made since
long I stood (line 3) before coming to a decision. In an attempt to make a choice, the traveler examines
the path as far as [he] could (line 4), but his vision is limited because the path bends and is covered in
the undergrowth (line 5). Thus, indicating that although he would have liked to acquire more
information, he is prevented from doing so because of the nature of his environment. In lines 6 8, the
speaker is still unable to decide between the two paths since the other, [is] just as fair (line 6). He
indicates that the second path is a more attractive choice since it was grassy and wanted wear (line 8).
Nevertheless, by the end of the stanza, he remains ambivalent, even after comparing the two paths, for
each was really about the same (line 10). Neither path has been traveled lately. In the third stanza, the
speaker makes his decision, trying to persuade himself that he will eventually come back (line 15) to
satisfy his desire and curiosity to travel both paths. However, deep down, he admits to himself that

Persuasive Essay On Transracial Adoption
Adoption is the social, emotional, and legal process in which children who will not be raised by their
birth parents become full and permanent legal members of another family while maintaining genetic
and sometimes psychological connections to their birth family (www.childwelfare.gov). Transracial
adoption, or adopting outside one s own race, has become prevalent in today s society, especially
among celebrities. For example, Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt, are White celebrities, who have adopted
multiple children of varied races including African and Asian. This trend of transracial adoption has
sparked global debates as to whether or not celebrities and other individuals should adopt children that
are not of the same race. Many people ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The National Association of Black Social Workers (NABSW), for example, argue that transracial
adoption is, in essence, a form of race and cultural genocide, claiming that children will not develop
proper skills to survive in a society that is racially biased specifically against them. As a result the
NABSW passed a resolution in 1972 calling for an end to the transracial adoption of African
American children (Lee 2015). The NABSW feels that Black children should be raised by Black
parents and express concern that Black children raised in White homes would fail to develop effective
coping strategies to deal with racism and discrimination and would experience subsequent identity
conflicts as they grew older. The idea is that the very basis of the upbringing does not convey the true
thoughts, ideas and behaviors of the real world . In addition to the argument against transracial
adoption, the NABSW also challenges traditional adoption practices and raises questions about
institutionalized racism within the adoption profession. They question the criteria and the basic
existing evaluation criteria for prospective adoptive couples that routinely prevented Black families
from qualifying, and stated that even though prospective Black adoptive families did exist, adoption
agencies were not only failing to recruit them and were, in fact, denying them in favor of white

Internet activist Eli Pariser says, You should know who has your personal data, what they have, and

information other individuals can view about another online (Shing, 31). Any internet user deals with
their own privacy online, but may see that there is not a definite way to guarantee it. With current laws
and policies, there are holes that certain people take advantage. Privacy is very hard to define in an

The Importance of Jack s Character in Golding s Novel Lord Of The Flies
Golding s novel Lord of the Flies follows the story of a group of boys stranded on an isolated desert
island. There is no figure of authority on the island and as their delicate sense of order fades, their
behaviour stats to take on a more savage significance.
At the beginning of the novel, Jack is the most obvious leader. The reader is introduced to Jack near
the end of the first chapter, as he leads the choir to the meeting. Jack is described as the boy who
controlled them before Golding even tells the reader his name. The word controlled hints that Jack is a
dictator, as is shown later in the novel.

He thinks he should be the Chief and dislikes Ralph from the beginning because he feels that Ralph
took the power that should rightfully be his.
Ralph and Jack are very similar, and can be contrasted because they are both natural leaders. In a way,
Ralph and Jack are the same person, but both have different priorities, and different leadership styles.
Ralph is democratic and selfless, associated with order and control and tries to be fair. Jack, however,
is a dictator, with a selfish leadership style, his priorities being only himself and hunting. Jack
demands respect, whereas Ralph earns it. The point of this is to show that although two people may
have the same qualities, the choices made by the people make a difference; it shows how the same
person can turn out just because one chooses savagery and one chooses order and democracy. Ralph
and Jack show the two kinds of mankind good and evil.
Jack is the only boy whose last name we learn. This is because the choir call him Merridew which
shows that even at this point in the novel, Jack has authority and power. The fact that the choir use his
last name is quite militaristic, but also is a way of Jack denying his identity and trying to make himself
more powerful than he is. It is as though Jack does not want to be seen as a child, but as a figure of
authority. This is also shown when Jack assumes he

Introduction The poem She Was a Phantom of Delight was written by William Wordsworth which was
published in 1807. In this poem Wordsworth describes his wife, Mary Hutchinson and his reaction to
her. He describes her first as an ideally beautiful woman, then an enjoyable companion and a
housewife and finally as an intellectual and moral being who is capable of guiding him. He chooses to
depict three points in their developing relationship: when they first met; as they began to know each
other better; and now that they are married. Beginning with a distant view that offers an apparition, he
closes up to a more realistic and spiritual view of his wife. The poem s overall tone is of admiration

By observing a woman s eternal beauty, Wordsworth successfully conveys his discovery of what
makes his wife truly beautiful. Beginning with a distant view that offers an illusion, he closes up to a
more realistic and spiritual appreciation of his wife. The poem is well organized because it has a clear
structure which gives us correct understanding. In my opinion the poet wants to depict each and every
detail of the lady from the day he met her till now when they are happily married. The beauty which
the poet describes about her is eloquent but at the same time it is very calm and soft, something
delicate. The sound of the poem is mesmerizing and melodic. The poem s overall tone is of admiration
and respect. This poem shows how their relationship grows and how he comes to appreciate her for
many different reasons. The poem has a logical order and the analysis makes us capture the main ideas
of the poet. But being a romantic description it is also a profound and realistic one. Other aspects I

Women and Sports Essay
Women and Sports
As it becomes increasingly acceptable for women to be athletic in American culture, a new question
arises: in which sports should women be allowed to participate? From a physiological standpoint, it
has been scientifically proven that female bodies do not differ significantly enough from male bodies
to prevent them from participation in any male sports. This division between male and female sports
clearly stems from age old, socially constructed norms of femininity and masculinity. When women
attempt to challenge these societal molds by participating in sports that are traditionally male, the
intricate web of norms is disrupted. Like many other instances where traditional social constructions
are tinkered with, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Women are expected to be more passive than their male counterparts. When a woman participates in
sport, she challenges many aspects of the gender role that has been defined for her. First, she is taking
time away from her family to do an activity that is outside the home. Second, in sport, she is behaving
in a more aggressive and competitive manner, which contradicts the meek feminine mold to which she
is supposed to adhere. Furthermore, when women compete in public, suddenly the lines begin to blur.
Men no longer have the monopoly over the role of universal breadwinner. Challenging these socially
constructed lines works as a catalyst for social change. All women athletes, both in traditional and non
traditional sports, play a pivotal role in instigating this change.
Female bodies were traditionally expected to be small, slender, soft, and pretty, while male bodies
were supposed to be muscular, large, solid, and handsome. Sports such as gymnastics and figure
skating allow and almost require that women maintain such feminine physical qualities. Athletes
competing in sports such as power lifting and rowing are encouraged to increase muscle mass at a
rapid rate thereby acquiring a physical stature that society deems masculine. Furthermore, while
technique is essential to these sports, there is a significant emphasis on brute strength. Brute strength
contradicts the passive femininity that is expected of women.

Scriticism In The Sirens Of Titans
Most science fiction is rooted in the belief that through thinking human beings can indeed save the
planet and the species and that progress is not only possible but probable through science (Morse 293).
Dealing with themes common to most science fiction, Kurt Vonnegut s The Sirens of Titan explores
the question of purpose in a futuristic setting (May 35). This novel, however, contests many
presumptions upon which many science fiction foregrounds. Josh Simpson writes that by [us]ing
irony, satire, and black humor . . . Vonnegut forces his readers to consider what it means to be human
in a chaotic, often absurd, and irrational universe (262). In fact, many scholars would agree that The
Sirens of Titan is Vonnegut s most flamboyant novel, with its entire universe at the mercy of the
outrageous fortune (Wolfe 968). Seconding G. K. Wolfe s idea, Lynn Buck notes that the world of

second way of becoming a member of WTO is not that simple. There is a process in which applying

The Constitution Of The United States
In 1787, our founding fathers came up with a few principles that would establish what we now know
as the United States of America. These principles were put on paper to serve as a guideline for how the
United States would be operated and structured. This historical piece paper became known as the
Constitution of the United States. In the Constitution, a Preamble is implemented at the beginning that
essentially tells what the founding fathers set out to do.
We The People, in order to form a more perfect union, establish justice, insure domestic tranquility,
provide for the common defense, promote the general welfare, and secure the blessings of liberty ...
(Preamble, U.S. Constitution)
The Preamble that was applied within the Constitution became the platform that led to different
limitations each state would have. The limitations were quoted by articles, amendments, and sections
to provide a professional and limited governmental scheme on what was expected from each state. As
the Constitution was ratified in 1788, a set of guidelines known as the Bill of Rights was implemented
as well. The difference is that the Constitution provided structure as to how the whole set up of our
system of government would be ran. So essentially, the Constitution states the appropriate amount of
houses needed to make up Congress, what powers Congress will have, and what powers the President
will have. The Bill of Rights served as rules towards what the federal government was limited to do.

Karma Of Hinduism And Western Culture
Karma in Hinduism Western Culture Karma is a well known term that has been used throughout the
ages. Though it was first used through Hinduism, people from all over the world and from different
cultures have all learn its definition and use it in their daily lives. While in Hinduism, karma is a
normal part of their lives and path to God, but in Western culture, karma is normally welcomed when
there is revenge to be had or a reward to be received. In some cases it could be both. In Hinduism,
karma is basically cause and effect. It leaves no room for chances and depends heavily on personal
responsibility, so no saying that an event happened by luck, good or bad (Huston 64). This idea can
sometimes lead other outside the religion and few in to relate it to fatalism, but to Hindus that
understand it, it is not like fatalism at all (Huston 65). For them, karma allows for you to make choices
freely, but with each choice does come consequences, but not every consequence is bad. It is all
choices and consequences are all based of what the soul or jiva wanted(Huston 65). The actions of a
jiva, or the choices it makes, will all lead to an eventual life of repetition of wanting more out of life,
but if it can see past the game that it is and insteads goes after something infinite and eternal, then will
the jiva fill more complete (Huston 66). For Hindus, karma is just another part of their lives but does
not bring fear to them. Meanwhile, in western societies, karma is many times

Most people confuse police authority with police power. What are police authority and or police

They perjure themselves, destroy evidence, or cover up significant facts . It is often said that no one is

Constitution and the Bill of Rights protect the people from police brutality. Police use of force is
defined as the use of physical restraint by a police officer when dealing with a member of the public.
Law enforcement officers are authorized to use the amount of force that is reasonable and necessary
given the circumstances. Most officers are trained in the use of force and typically encounter
numerous situations during their careers when the use of force is appropriate for example, when
making some arrests, restraining unruly combatants, or controlling a disruptive demonstration. Force
may involve hitting: holding or restraining, pushing, choking threatening with a flashlight, baton, or
chemical or pepper spray; restraining with a police dog, or threatening with a gun and some police use
of force include handcuffing , according to Schmalleger, (2008). A greater type of police force is

sources of export in many countries. It contains a vast number of workers, and in many developing
countries, the clothing industry is the single largest employer of citizens. Employed women and men
work to produce the variety of clothing sold in countries such as America. Despite the substantial
employment in factories, many garment workers are often informally employed and home based thus
invisible and rarely represented in national statistics (WIEGO). Many of the women who work in this
field must work based on uncertain and rushed production and receive little pay, benefits or vacation.
In countries such as Bangkok, garment employees earn on average daily about 845 baht (approx. US )
for a seven hour day (WIEGO). Practices such as low wages and unstable conditions lead to a

Analysis Of White Noise By Delillo
The awareness and difficulty in accepting morality is not only unique to humans today but have been
long before. Innovations in medicine, technology and means of communication, have somewhat
reduced the likelihood of an early death compared to previous generations of humans, however, such
advancements seem not to conjure the desired feelings of joy, but rather feelings of helplessness and
irrational fears of death, leading to the suppression and denial of its existence, through consumption of
these goods. In his novel, White Noise, DeLillo gives insight into the life of Jack Gladney, who is the
[inventor] and chairman of the department of Hitler Studies at the College on the Hill (4), and also
carries with him a deep fear of death, and his current wife Babette and their children. DeLillo shows
how science and technology end up feeding this fear of death, and causes more difficulty in accepting
its existence, as Jack s fear becomes aggravated due to the Airborne Toxic Event, and his
vulnerabilities regarding death stem to light, while acknowledgeing that The greater the scientific
advance, the more primitive the fear (154), and All plots tend to move deathwards. This is the nature
of plots (26). Every object within the novel, the white noise, from the schools, to supermarket, to
sounds, and means of media, all convey the presence of death, suggesting that this phenomenon
cannot be avoided or outrun. The [evacuation ] of the grade school where No one knew what was

  • 2. War from the 16th and 17th Century to Invention of Gunpowder WAR FROM THE 16TH AND 17TH CENTURY TO INVENTION OF GUNPOWDER The invention of the powerful artillery guns would change man s role in warring engagements. The artillery guns at first were very limited by their own design. The guns were very heavy and had to be transported by water, which meant that only towns and fortresses that were close to a body of water could be attacked with artillery also known as the cannon. There were also some fortresses that were impervious to the early cannon attacks based on strong designs or natural defenses. The French were able to penetrate the round shaped castles and large walls during the late 1400s by using concentrated fire of several small guns instead of a few large ones. A new design of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The problem with recruitment was solved in many ways. The most common method of enlistment was actually through volunteering, but other men were forced to serve as well. The volunteers were attracted to service because of the money, and recruits joined from the mountains, towns, and even in war zones and the majority of them consisted of peasants or townsmen that needed work. Many men joined the army to escape the life of their father s work, to avoid criminal prosecution, to see more of the world, or to pursue honor. In addition to the volunteers, the governments also used forceful means of enlistment by recruiting an entire population of an area as a unit and forcing them to fight together. Other forms of forced recruiting included soldiers of defeated armies and the use of conscripts. The most sought after combat soldier was the veteran and many times a veteran would move from army to army depending on which one would make him the most money. Financing the large organizations was no easy task when so many mouths had to be feed, clothed, and armed. Not only were there a lot of soldiers, but the price of weaponry was increasing as well. Combat basically comes down to one thing, money; and the army that could last the longest was eventually able to wear down the enemy instead of having to destroy their armies. Many times the kings of the 1700s would devote anywhere from 75 to 90 percent of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 4. A Brief Look at Guantanamo Bay today Guantanamo Bay has been a big topic in today s society. On his campaign trail, President Obama pledged, I will close Guantanamo bay detention center within a year of being elected . My main argument has to be the amount of money were wasting on this prison. To be specific according to democratic lawmakers it has skyrocketed to $2.7 million per inmate. Guantanamo has been dubbed the most expensive prison on earth. President Barack Obama in May citied its cost then calculated at about $900,000 per prisoner. That s one of the many reasons to close it. My evidence supports my topic sentence because it just states fact of why this expensive prison should be shut down. It s common sense would you rather have all the money the tax payers ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Seems unfair right? But if that doesn t convince you that this prison is worthless then this might. The pentagon wants to more improvements on the prison and spend more of YOUR hard working money. I guarantee you that the shutdown of this prison will bring a lot of great benefits. First the spending of ridiculous money on a prison will be out of the picture. Second the boycotts in front of the white house and government building will stop. People that want this prison close will do everything they can to get it shut down and create something more productive that can benefit everyone in the United States for the future. Even though my main argument has to be the amount of money we re wasting on this prison, they should close down the prison because we can t be wasting that much money on inmates that should be dead. The United State citizens who are paying from their taxes are not agreeing with this prison instead of wasting the money on that they can help the economy boost back up. The most important reason they should close the prison down has to be the amount of money we are wasting on it. We waste $2.7 million dollars a year on EACH inmate. If this doesn t seem legit all the money budget can be found very quickly. We need all our money to go to us and help us boost up our economy. Li was accompanied by many senior Chinese officials during this visit, which totaled about sixty people. Two months later there was a break in of the building Pelamis occupied, and five laptops containing design information were stolen. Note that the terms of corporate and industrial espionage are used interchangeably in my research. One may wonder what the roots of competitive intelligence, intellectual espionage, and reverse engineering are. On the surface, it may seem clear that there is a distinction between competitive intelligence and corporate espionage. One is gained legally, as a means of retaining corporate relevance, while the other is gained illegally and at in some cases in an indignant fashion [4]. According to David Blenkhorn, a professor at Wilfrid Laurier University, this topic is not appropriately discussed in universities today. It is not clear or obvious how one should treat corporate intelligence ethically, as cultural viewpoints skew the morality of the situation. It certainly could be argued that this information gathering is a necessary and sufficient means to an end. Dr. Blenkhorn notes that there is a generally accepted ethical view with respect to information gathering in Europe and North America, but in other countries, this perspective is quite different. To some degree this may be a normalization of deviance, where over time, such actions are simply accepted as a means of holding a business or national security edge, and thus over time becomes ingrained into the culture. She decided that instead of suffering, she wanted to follow through with Physician Assisted Suicide (PAS), according to Kayla Asbury in her story, The Right to Die: Benefits of Physician Assisted Suicide. If you were in the same situation Maynard was in, what would you do? Would you suffer until your last dying breath, or would you put yourself out of that misery and ask for PAS? Physician Assisted Suicide has been a very controversial topic for many years. Along with the fact that there is a protocol that has to be taken in order for the patient to receive the drugs to end their life. Boarding Schools Affected Native American Life How Boarding Schools Came To Be In American history, many things have affected Native American life and one of the biggest ones was boarding schools being created. Boarding schools may not seem like a very big deal but has affected a large part of Native American life. In the time prior to these schools being created, the American government s main issue was finding a place to move Native Americans to, since their homelands were now under the control of the government. Eventually, the tens of thousands of native americans were put onto designated lands called reservations and attended boarding schools. Many Native Americans remember this time as nothing but abuse and desecration of their culture. Boarding schools greatly affected and influenced the life of tens of thousands of native americans during this time period but their lasting effects are still carried into today (Bear 2008). Argumentative Essay On Medea Commonly considered one of Euripides greatest pieces, Medea is an insightful depiction of how a woman s love for her husband, churns into a gruesome revenge scheme against him. This tragedy illustrates a tale of a woman who challenges Greek societal norms. In the era that the story takes place; women are often seen in submissive roles. However, the play s main character, Medea, challenges their customs through her actions against the Kingdom of Corinth and Jason. When Medea s husband, Jason, plans to marry Glauce, a daughter of King Creon, for wealth and power over the kingdom, Medea becomes angry with Jason for breaking their vows of eternal love. However, the Nurse was unable to stop her at that time since she only had a feeling and no confirmation on Medea s exact scheme. Another time Medea could have been stopped is when she was making a speech to the Chorus on her revenge against Jason and the Kingdom of Corinth. If they organized as a group, they could have turned Medea into the Kingdom s military authority s before she acted, thus, saving everyone in the play s life. Unfortunately, this was not accomplished because Medea persuaded the Chorus to swear not to speak on or act against her plan. Lastly, when Aegeus, the King of Athens, finds Medea on his return to Athens, after hearing how Jason has wronged her, he could have persuaded her not to commit murder and to flee to Athens with him a long with her children. This was not always the case and the ideal of a separate court system for adults and children is only about 100 years old. When looking at the differences that set juvenile courts apart, it is important to study the history and see how it developed over time. The movement to separate children from adults in the court system can be traced back to English common law, just like most of America s criminal justice system. English lawyer William Blackstone had a significant influence on the separation of Juvenile and adult courts. Blackstone s Commentaries on the Laws of England, that was first published in the late 1760 s, was widely read and well regarded by the founders of America (History of Juvenile Justice). In Blackstone s book, he identified individuals who were considered incapable of committing crimes (History of Juvenile Justice). The first records of neurodegenerative disease which would later be linked to Prions were made about two hundred years ago. It was in the 1950 s it was discovered that Prion disease could be transmitted horizontally, in addition to being inheritable and spontaneous. These findings were sought out by isolated tribes of the New Guinea that were suffering from high prevalence of a particular TST called Kuru. Some additional history of Prion disease dates back to the 1980 s when an increasing number of cows in the UK became infected with Mad Cow Disease also known as Bovine Spongiform Encephalopathy. This unfortunate epidemic was traced back to a food supplement that was fed to the cows, this supplement contained mean and bone meal from dead sheep. This line, spoken by Zoey Murphy in Dear Evan Hansen, could not have fit the ideas stated in Great Expectations any better. One of the major ideas conveyed consistently throughout Great Expectations is of never being satisfied, and the constant desire for wealth and fame. Also indirectly relayed through the novel very often is Charles Dicken s social commentary. He looks down upon the desire for wealth and fame, and this is disguised through his descriptions of the middle class s goal of becoming high class, and high class mannerisms. It is clear that Mrs. Pocket doesn t know how to care for her baby, and while laughable, this is also a very sad situation. It was her baby that she gave birth to, and she doesn t even know how to hold it! Dickens is clearly making fun of the higher class and how heavily they rely on hired help to take care of their children. This is seen again later in the chapter. At this point, she is helpless in her attempts of taking care of the baby. Dickens writes, Into Mrs. Pocket s lap, and gave it the nutcrackers to play with...forgetting all about the baby on her lap: who did most appalling things with the nutcrackers (Dickens 179 180). This is an obvious lack of parental nurturing in the Pocket home, and this is an effect of their wealth and heavy reliance on servants. Dickens makes another point against the upper class when he shows Pip s lack of control after receiving his sum. Dickens writes, We spent as much money as we could, and got as little for it as people could make up their minds to give us (Dickens 256). Pip is clearly in panic when he receives such a large sum of money. Due to this, he loses control and does what he has always wished to do: spend it all! He doesn t know anything else. Ralph and Jack show the two kinds of mankind good and evil. Jack is the only boy whose last name we learn. This is because the choir call him Merridew which shows that even at this point in the novel, Jack has authority and power. The fact that the choir use his last name is quite militaristic, but also is a way of Jack denying his identity and trying to make himself more powerful than he is. It is as though Jack does not want to be seen as a child, but as a figure of authority. This is also shown when Jack assumes he ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 24. What Is The Theme Of She Was A Phantom Of Delight By... Introduction The poem She Was a Phantom of Delight was written by William Wordsworth which was published in 1807. In this poem Wordsworth describes his wife, Mary Hutchinson and his reaction to her. He describes her first as an ideally beautiful woman, then an enjoyable companion and a housewife and finally as an intellectual and moral being who is capable of guiding him. He chooses to depict three points in their developing relationship: when they first met; as they began to know each other better; and now that they are married. Beginning with a distant view that offers an apparition, he closes up to a more realistic and spiritual view of his wife. The poem s overall tone is of admiration and respect. Beginning with a distant view that offers an illusion, he closes up to a more realistic and spiritual appreciation of his wife. In my opinion the poet wants to depict each and every detail of the lady from the day he met her till now when they are happily married. The beauty which the poet describes about her is eloquent but at the same time it is very calm and soft, something delicate. The sound of the poem is mesmerizing and melodic. The poem s overall tone is of admiration and respect. This poem shows how their relationship grows and how he comes to appreciate her for many different reasons. The poem has a logical order and the analysis makes us capture the main ideas of the poet. But being a romantic description it is also a profound and realistic one. Other aspects I want to talk about are the rhetorical devices and figures of speech. Women and Sports Essay Women and Sports As it becomes increasingly acceptable for women to be athletic in American culture, a new question arises: in which sports should women be allowed to participate? From a physiological standpoint, it has been scientifically proven that female bodies do not differ significantly enough from male bodies to prevent them from participation in any male sports. This division between male and female sports clearly stems from age old, socially constructed norms of femininity and masculinity. When women attempt to challenge these societal molds by participating in sports that are traditionally male, the intricate web of norms is disrupted. When a woman participates in sport, she challenges many aspects of the gender role that has been defined for her. First, she is taking time away from her family to do an activity that is outside the home. Second, in sport, she is behaving in a more aggressive and competitive manner, which contradicts the meek feminine mold to which she is supposed to adhere. Furthermore, when women compete in public, suddenly the lines begin to blur. Men no longer have the monopoly over the role of universal breadwinner. Challenging these socially constructed lines works as a catalyst for social change. All women athletes, both in traditional and non traditional sports, play a pivotal role in instigating this change. Female bodies were traditionally expected to be small, slender, soft, and pretty, while male bodies were supposed to be muscular, large, solid, and handsome. Sports such as gymnastics and figure skating allow and almost require that women maintain such feminine physical qualities. Athletes competing in sports such as power lifting and rowing are encouraged to increase muscle mass at a rapid rate thereby acquiring a physical stature that society deems masculine. Furthermore, while technique is essential to these sports, there is a significant emphasis on brute strength. Brute strength contradicts the passive femininity that is expected of women.
