Principles Of The International Olympic Committee
Within every business or organization, there must be a set of values and goals that are established to
prove consistency throughout their existence. These values and principles are there for them to follow
and to lay groundwork as to how they should handle everything that encompasses their organization.
In the same way, the International Olympic Committee was set to provide a charter to highlight their
mission and their principles. While it has become clear that Olympism aims to promote a joy of effort,
the educational value of good example, social responsibility and respect for universal fundamental
ethical principles (IOC, 2015, p.13), it has also become evident that they must partner with sponsors to
avoid debt like in the example of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This in return turns out to be misleading to the investors, but since General Electric is also sponsoring
the Olympics this could cause one to question the true stance on their sponsorship. By General
Electric deviating from SEC rules, it s as if the International Olympic Committee were not to follow
the charter and to be going against their values of following good governance within their
organization.
Considering the above contradiction, a solution would be to get more involved in the governance of
General Electrics. A way to do this would be to have the International Olympic Committees financial
auditors evaluate and monitor General Electric s financial auditors and double check their work. This
would ensure that any wrong doing on General Electric s behalf be taken care of immediately and with
advice from the International Olympic Committee on making the right decision that will go along with
their values. Through this solution, the Olympics don t risk losing a highly ranked company as a
sponsor, but can also aid in reducing irrevocable mistakes.
Furthermore, two other sponsors, Samsung and Panasonic have undergone scandals that contradict the
Olympics values. In November of 2016, Samsung and Panasonic were under investigation for abusing
labor rights. In their supply chains in Malaysia, workers seemed to be deceived regarding pay and
worked long hours with an inadequate amount of rest (Pattison, 2016). As sponsors of the

The Terrorist Attacks Of The United States
September 11, 2001, started as a perfect day, but as the day went on, chaos and terror erupted in the
streets of New York City. New York s iconic World Trade Center fell victim to hijacked commercial
airlines filled with innocent people. In 102 minutes, the world was forever changed by one of the
worst attacks the United States has ever experienced. Many factors made the terrorist attacks of
September 11th a day that is permanently etched into the hearts and minds of Americans. Nineteen
radicals linked to the Islamic terrorist group al Qaeda gained control over four airplanes and carried
out attacks against targets in the United States on 9/11. (History.com Authors) Their leader, Osama
Bin Laden, and his followers viciously opposed the United States. In al Qaeda s opinion, the United
States was an infidel because it was not governed in a manner consistent with the group s extremist
interpretation of Islam. Other characteristics of America aggravated the extremist group as well,
including our foreign policy and supporting enemies of al Qaeda. Because of his hatred of America,
Bin Laden declared a Jihad, or holy war, against the United States, which he has carried out through al
Qaeda and its affiliated organizations. (Smith) As a result, the United States faced many violent
attacks with the group, including the bombing in 1993 that took place before the attacks on September
11th. In September 1992, Ramzi Ahmed Yousef arrived in New York City from Pakistan and began

Treaty of Waitangi
TREATY OF WAITANGI
The Treaty of Waitangi is an agreement between the British Crown and the Maori people. The Treaty
of Waitangi was signed on the sixth of February 1840 by 43 Northland chiefs and Lieutenant
Governor Hobson. The Treaty recognized Maori people occupied New Zealand prior to British. The
Treaty of Waitangi allowed the Crown to set up a government to establish laws, and recognised that
Māori people owned their lands and other properties. The immigrants (British citizens) could come
and live here in peace. Meanwhile, Maori gained the some rights as British citizens. At the signing of

Essentially the Treaty was an attempt to establish a system of property rights for land with the Crown
controlling and overseeing land sale, to prevent abuse.
Initially this worked well. Māori were eager to sell land, and settlers eager to buy. The Crown
mediated the process to ensure that the true owners were properly identified (difficult for tribally
owned land) and fairly compensated, by the standards of the time. However after a while Māori

Going To College Research Paper
As a result of several motivational purposes, there are many driving factors to go to college that can
and will impact one s life. Before going to college, I waited 2 ½ years after I graduated high school to
finally make my decision to go to college. The reason it took me so long is that I did not know what I
wanted to do with my life. First, I wanted to be a probation officer, then I changed my mind to be an
OBGYN, then finally I made the decision to become a nurse. I know I have a long road of schooling
ahead of me, but that is okay. I have wonderful people in my life that encourage me to continue my
studies. Going to college is important since it can open many opportunities to get into a better career
field, it is a fun experience, and it can also start a tradition in my family. ... Show more content on

Applicants who have obtained a college degree are normally hired at a higher pay rate and are
considered to be much more employable. This means that I, as a college graduate, would be more
likely to be offered the job position than someone that did not attend college or get a degree. College
will also help in preparing an individual such as myself for a career in a particular field. In almost all
of the highly specialized job professions, if one does not have a college degree, there is little to no
possibility of securing a career in that field. Also, college will give students like me the tools to
succeed in the career path of my choosing. These tools may not be available to people who do not
attend college. An individual who earns a degree from a college is more likely to have more
knowledge than people who just have a high school

Ojibwe Creation Myths
A Whole New World
Part A: Eternal inflation is an alternative theory of creation that is a modification of the Big Bang
Theory. The earliest universe was expanding matter, and particles that were next to each other would
routinely be sent whizzing away to the farthest reaches of their cosmological horizons. It is no longer
like that, however, as the inflation stopped. The theory of eternal inflation is that the expansion did not
stop all at once. Rather, little bubbles of space randomly stopped inflating, or fell onto trajectories that
led to the end of their inflation. And, since the expansion is rapid, the inflating space creates more
space than the bubbles that stop inflating lose so inflation never ends. The result is an ever expanding
multiverse, which means not only is Earth not the center of the universe but our universe isn t the
center of the universe.
Part B: The Ojibwa are an Aboriginal people in Canada. The creation story of the Ojibwa starts with
nothing except a dark void; however, although there was nothing, there was possibility. This means
although there was nothing ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Both stories start with nothing, but from the nothingness the Ojibwa believe there is one all powerful
being and the Māroi believe there are two. This is where the differences become more prominent,
because the Māroi story depicts the beings as being almost human like: they give birth and have flaws,
flaws which lead to eventual conflict. The Ojibwa, however, depict a being of unfathomable power
and wisdom whose vision should be altered by no one. The real difference, however, is most
prominent today. The first two beings of Māroi culture, Rangi and Papa, are not worshipped with the
intensity that the Ojibwa allow Kitchi Manitou. The Māroi believe there were flaws and the offspring
are the true creators of existence, while the Ojibwa believe everybody is still a part of Kitchi Manitou

While looking at Ella s scenario there are many different issues that come up pertaining to treatment
alternatives. There are issues that arise whether natural, traditional and spiritual or modern medicine is
the best for Ella s situation. While modern medicine could be the best choice the traditions and beliefs
play a large part in the decision making of the care she will receive. With Ella having a very diverse
family, there are many micro, mezzo and macro influences that effect the both Ella and her family.
The different options for Ella treatments all have their benefits and drawbacks. While looking at all for
the options it is important to provide the best care possible for the patient and family. Throughout this
paper I will be using Ella, the grandmother from the Introduction to the Miller Family as an example
to provide information on how to prove the best care and support in these types of situations. (Smith,
2013) Ella has been diagnosed with breast cancer and has been treating it naturally. She has chosen to
treat naturally because she grew up on a farm and believes in natural healing verse modern medicine.
She is married to John who is an American Indian and her family is a very diverse family. She has a

Cleopatra the queen of the Nile: When I think back to Roman and Egyptian times the first name that
comes to mind is Cleopatra. I envy her for many reasons. She was a great ruler, she had riches, she
had fame and most of all she had an epic love story. There were not many female rulers or females
with power when you look into history. Cleopatra is an example of many things, and is the epitome of
a powerful historical female. Her name is synomious with beauty, power, intrigue and ultimately
tragedy.
In 69 BC Cleopatra was born into an Egyptian dynasty. A dynasty in decline and under the protection
of Rome. At the young age of 18 she assumed the throne along with one ... Show more content on

Her dynasty was over, and she proved to be the last pharaoh. With her death Cleopatra has achieved
immortality through the personal story of love and tragedy. When we think of Cleopatra we
automatically think of this story. But upon the research I learned that there were others and she was
actually Cleopatra 7. Many books, plays, movies and stories have been made about the great queen of
the Nile. Some tell us different sides of the story. Each have a little bit of difference in them so who
really knows which one to believe. One thing is certain; Cleopatra was a great female ruler for her 22
years as the Egyptian queen. Ironically enough she wasn t even Egyptian or roman for that matter. She
and her family were Greek. There are also many works that suggest that she was not a very pretty
woman. Cleopatra s happiness didn t last, which seems that just like in all love stories her life doesn t
have a happy ending. Another side of the story is that Marc killed himself after being surrounded by
Octavia s troops, and then Cleopatra being held prisoner which is why she killed herself. I was very
intrigued by each story that I read of Cleopatra s life and death and her rule, and I feel like I learned a
lot. I think I will go on to watch some of the movies to see them played

Shadowing Backwards
When doing rounds and sitting at the desk with Megan at Ross, I learned a lot about the specific
procedures needed to be done at each task. The atmosphere is different at each task, considering that
desk duty is more laid back while rounds consisted of being more alert with the surrounding area.
While each are polar opposites of one another, they are both crucial when working as an RA. I began
my shadowing at the front desk and I was surprised to hear that not all RAs have to work the front
desk. I always thought that this role was part of being an RA, and that every RA had to work it. As I

The Glass Menagerie Reality
The Glass Menagerie is set in the Wingfield family flat which is situated in the city of St. Louis. They
lived in destitution, and every individual from the family discovered themselves getting away from
their own lives and pulling back into a universe of misguided judgment. The play tells a story of a
family triangle, in which Tom is the central character in the play. Throughout the play Tom open doors
and was also in control of it. Anger and rage was portrayed, but the family loved each other. This play
can be portrayed as a memory play on the grounds that it is the impression of Tom s pass. There are

character of the play. Moreover, the story s name The Glass Menagerie, permits the peruser to make
an association with Laura s accumulation of glass creatures that symbolizes her sensitive state. The
glass unicorn turned into an imperative image in the story on the grounds that it speaks to her. At the
point when Jim was acquainted with the glass unicorn, Laura had disclosed to Jim that the unicorn
was not the same as the horses on the grounds that the unicorn was the one and only that had a horn.

Essay on Analysis of Birches by Robert Frost
In the poem Birches by Robert Frost, Frost portrays the images of a child growing to adulthood
through the symbolism of aging birch trees. Through these images readers are able to see the reality of
the real world compared to there carefree childhood. The image of life through tribulation is the main
focal point of the poem and the second point of the poem is if one could revert back to the simpler
times of childhood. The language of the poem is entirely arranged through images, although it
contains some diction it lacks sound devices, metaphors, and similes compared to other published
works by Frost. The first half of the poems images are of life, coming of age, and death.

of the poem deals with the coming of age the second half of the poem deals with childhood and
wanting to stay young for as long as possible. The first image of childhood by Frost is when Truth
broke in With all her matter of fact about the ice storm, I should prefer to have some boy bend them. A
boy bending the trees in stead of ice storm allows the tree to never age because they will always return
to their original shape and never break by the burden of a load. This is further expressed By riding
them down over and over again Until he took the stiffness out of them. Once the trees lose their
stiffness the boy can play on them repeatedly without having to worry about them breaking therefore
if they never shatter or falling then youthfulness will always be his. Finally Frost talks about how he
would like to go back to being a boy swinging and climbing on trees just as he did when he was
younger by saying So was I once myself a swinger of birches. And so I dream of going back to be. I d

Nt131 Unit 3 Paper
All three of the policies are in some way a little bit different than the current system in place in New
York. Delaware uses a three tier system that allows the state and local government to share the
responsibility of making decisions regarding distribution. Tier 1 provides funding for the cost for such
things as teachers salaries and their benefits. In addition, this Tier determines the amount of money
needed per pupil, meaning that the number of students in the district determines the amount of funds
that a district received. Tier II: this is the amount of money given to the district by the state to cover
such things as schools supplies, building maintenance and utilities. Tier III: this is the fund, provided
to the districts base on their pupil number, and this helps to equalize things between poor and wealthy
districts. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

needs in their district and the amount given to wealthier district. Whereas in Indiana the state

the amount the district will receive and district makes up the rest. New Jersey funding policy works by
using the SFRA formula to determine the base cost per pupil in order to meet their basic educational
needs. The formula is used to calculate the extra funds needed for such things as special needs and

Human rights are essential for all people, despite their nationality, gender, ethnic origin, color, or

people were being denied these basic rights as they were being abused and tortured for things that they

Why Did the 1905 Revolution Fail
Why did the 1905 revolution fail?
One of the main reasons that the 1905 revolution failed was because the October Manifesto merely
only satisfied the middle classes appetite for reform. However this was only a short term change in
government therefore it was not really a revolution because the changes were not permanent. To add,
the readiness of the liberals to accept the government s political and economical bribes indicted that
they were not genuinely ready for a revolution at this time. Furthermore the duma did not have as
much power as the tsar portrayed them to have. They were not able to pass laws and did not have any
control on the state s finance. To add, another reason why the 1905 revolution failed was because after

Diversity of a corporate board is important in terms of varying skill sets and experience of board
members. The diversity brought by different board members allows a contrast in perspectives and
opinions on how the benefit the corporation. A corporate board should have a separate director (with
explicit rules and regulations) that is capable of properly managing. The director must also be capable
to decide whether it is the corporation s best interest to have CEO participation with a corporate board.
Also, the board of directors make decisions for shareholders as a fiduciary, while seeking commercial
stability of the company. The board of directors is in charge of hiring and firing executives. A poor
structured board makes it almost impossible to fire ineffective officials, (Staff, page 1). To clearly see
the accounting of a corporation, no corporation should stray away from clearly explaining the
corporation s accounting outcomes. The calculating of corporate incomes should always be shown in
stock or options based on compensation. There must be a productive commitment to engage with
shareholders between company and its shareholders in order to have the best governing,
(Commonsense Corporate Governance Principles, (n.d.), paragraph 5 9). Many executives and
investors have made it their primary goal to get the most profit on quarterly earnings in contrary to

Impact Of The Affordable Care Act
Policy Background When the Affordable Care Act (ACA) was enacted on March 23rd, 2010, it
transformed the lives of people all over the US, in states who expanded. It allowed families to qualify
for government programs such as Medicaid, CHIP, and government subsidies, and for young adults to
stay on their parent s insurance until the age of 26. The ACA was a sign of relief and good news for all
but two groups, lawful permanent residents and undocumented immigrants. In 2012, DACA recipients
under the DREAM Act also became part of the groups excluded, leaving more than 6.5 million unable
to access affordable care. In order to make a change, the New Mexico Rep. Michelle Lujan Grisham,

intended to break down barriers for women and their families by expanding the definition of lawfully

Korean Pop
Korea had become trendy because it provided what the youth wanted throughout the region. The
phenomenon can be partially explained by noting how Korean popular culture catapulted forward
during the 1990s, leaving much of Asia behind as it abandoned conservatism and censorship,
diversifying, appropriating, absorbing and innovating. In its fusions, it created an Asian equivalent of
European and American pop. Japanese pop, of course, had long had this function throughout the
region, but the 1990s was a time for re examining the Pacific War s legacy, and Korea offered a less
tainted alternative to Japan. Keith Howard Background of the Study The global world widely

Analysis Of The Of Ragtime
Socialism in America
E3 Argumentative essay
Sonia Rani
3/17/2017
Ragtime is an interesting depiction of cultural and political change. It can be argued that the story is
not just a reflection of the events in the 20th Century but the novel reflects the events that continue to
happen until today in socialism. For instance, the novel gives a glimpse of the kind of life experienced
by many African Americans. They were victimized by the society and the persons in authority refuse
to help them. Even in the 21st Century, it cannot be denied that African Americans are still subjected
to discrimination in socialism. Throughout the stories in this novel character represent that change and

But he proves himself a good example of socialism as socialist. In Ragtime, historical elements like E.

In socialism, the state also has a character of the class, but its content is opposed to that of the
bourgeois state: it becomes, for the first time in history, a state of the clear majority exploited against
the tiny exploitative or privileged minority (Rozman, 2014). Rozman (2014) explains that
Conversions to traditional socialism became more evident after World War II, with the Cold War and
later with the disintegration of the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics. So, as Ragtime, because it was
written in about 20th century. Since then, socialist regimes have been adopting more flexible stances.

Arcata Community Forestry
Managing a forest with and for the people: Community forestry and environmental public
participation in the case of Arcata, California
1. Introduction
All across the United States, historical patterns of resource extraction have led to degradation and
fragmentation of forest landscapes. When a community depends on those resources, a local crisis can
emerge from this process of degradation. To reverse this scenario, community forestry became a
popular approach in the 1970s as a modern policy and practice (Baker and Kusel, 2003). This model
was based on a simple assumption: as local people already use and rely on the natural resources of
their forests, they are in the best position to conserve them. However, recent literature has show that ...

Essay On The Voting Rights Act Of 1965
The voting rights act of 1965 was designed to prohibit discrimination based on race, and requires
certain jurisdictions to prove bilingual assistance to language minority voters. The act banned the use
of literacy tests, provided for federal oversight of voter registration in areas where less than 50 percent
of the nonwhite population had not registered to vote. Still voting rights gave African American voters
the legal means to challenge voting restrictions and vastly improved voter turnout. In Mississippi
alone, voter turnout among blacks increased from 6 percent in 1964 to 59 percent in 1969. When the
law was first passed, they made the blacks take a test to be able to vote. (history.com). Since 1965 the

into law on August 6th by Martin Luther King Jr. and other civil rights leaders present at the
ceremony. Prior to the Civil war, African Americans were almost totally disenfranchised throughout
the states. Latino voters faced similar barriers to voting in Texas and other parts of the southwest.
Native Americans and Asian Americans voters in the west did the same. Even after enactment of the
15th amendment to the constitution in 1870, which gave all men, regardless race, color, or previous

people of color from voting, including literacy tests and poll taxes which most blacks could not afford.

How Did The Abbasid Contribute To The Rise Of Islamic Economy
From the third to the tenth century, the Muslim world had an unchallenged economic supremacy over
the Occident and Orient. To this empire, no enemy posed a serious threat and, therefore, this economy
became the most prosperous of its time. Combined with the spread of Islam across the world,
previously sleeping agricultural and rural sectors suddenly flourished due to the establishment of law
and order among Islamic territories. When this is paired with a geographically vast market that
operated with no fear of caravans being assaulted en route, this motivated all of the Islamic faith to do
their best for their own advancement and the benefit of their society. (Source)
In addition, paper had a major impact on the Islamic economy. The discovery of the Chinese
papermaking process was faster and easier than preparing parchment or papyrus. As a result, the use
of paper spread like wildfire throughout the empire; eventually, shops began selling paper and books.

Business Law and Repetitive Strain Injury Essay
It is important for business management to develop and promote sound health and safety policies and
to consider, not only the legal requirements and the possibility of prosecution, but also the possibility
of an employee personal injury claim. The number of work related personal injury claims and
especially those relating to Repetitive Strain Injury (RSI), an umbrella term normally used to describe
Work Related Upper Limb Disorders (WRULD), seem to be rising. RSI is not a recognised medical
condition, more a medical term. There are two types: type 1 RSI with recognised, specific pathological
conditions and type 2 RSI non specific pain syndrome (NSPS) or Diffuse RSI, which as the name
suggests is difficult to diagnosis. Some medical ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
An Act for the preservation of health and morals of apprentices and others employed in cotton and
other mills and other factories . The act was the first effort to regulate factory working conditions and
was important not only for the child labour improvements, but also significantly influenced further
legislation and its future direction. Further legislation followed. Some of the most significant included
the Factory Act 1833, empowering Crown inspectors to introduce and enforce health and safety. The
Ten Hours Act of 1847, followed by the Factory and Workshop Act in 1878 dictated working hours
and minimum employment age. The Factory Act 1901 covered employment and the education of

system for safety, health and welfare requirements applicable to all factories and in 1961 new and
existing legislation was consolidated and expanded to cover all workplaces, in the Factories Act 1961.
Whereas all previous legislation was prescriptive the HASAWA etc 1974 was a significant change. It

The Culture Of The Mexican Culture
How many different types of cultures are there? Here s the answer there are many cultures. My story
starts like this; both of my parents are from Guadalajara well most of my family is from that part of
México. Being part of the Mexican culture is very different from other cultures, but every culture is
unique of its own way. Many Mexican people have preserved and still do many of their ancestors
traditions. Tradition plays a big role in my family for example: the food we eat, the music we listen to,
what we dance to and what we celebrate to. I wanted a sweet sixteen but of course being Mexican my
parents said no. Being in the Mexican culture tradition is that when you turn 15 you re supposed to
have a Quinceanera it symbolizes that you are no longer a kid but you are now a young women. Many
people think a Quinceanera is just a party but the real tradition is to have a church mass. Since I am
catholic that consists of me going to church and thanking God. Social behaviors impact your life in
many ways. You have roles and rules in your cultures. When you re with your friends you act a
different way. When it has to do with family or church groups you have a role and rules and your
behavior is different. Women and Males have different rules and roles. Mother is supposed to stay
home and Father is supposed to work to help his family. Women are not supposed to do yard work
their job is inside. That has changed with the year s most

Heroic Ignorance And Gothic Novels By Jane Austen
Heroic Ignorance and Gothic Novels
Jane Austen s novel, Northanger Abbey, seeks to explore the effect of wealth on society. Throughout
the novel, this portrayal of wealth assumes an increasingly critical tone, and is thus used to suggest the
negative impact of financial goals in a relationship. This is shown in the contrast between Catherine s
relationship with Mr. Tilney, and Isabella s promiscuous ways. In this dynamic, Catherine remains
pure, engaged to a poor clergyman, whereas her friend Isabella ensnares men in the hopes of gaining
wealth and societal status. Through this dynamic, Austen provides an example of the British Romantic
ideal that both love and the individual are only pure and righteous when freed from the constraints of
society and affluence. Ironically, the Gothic novels that were prevalent in the later part of the British
Romantic Period are frequently cited as a source of misfortune throughout the novel. Catherine, who
is portrayed as good and pure, is misled into believing that the stories spun in Gothic novels are
applicable to her own life. Her friend, Isabella, is also portrayed as a lover of the genre, which is
Austen s way of hinting at Isabella s future sins. Although the Gothics influence both Catherine and
Isabella, Austen portrays the characters as opposites one the promiscuous villain and one the victim of
the heroic tale. Austen continuously comments on the nature of heroism, and thus mocks the timid
Catherine while ironically branding her a

The movie Red dog was able to express all types of themes. The Australian culture are full of comedy,
romance, tragedy and mateship, and all these themes are evident in the film Red dog. Comedy was a
huge part of this film, nearly even scene showed comedy and would give you a laugh. Half way
through the movie the character Peeto was to babysit/look after Red dog for John while he took Nancy
out on their first date. Peeto was secretly doing his knitting but Red Dog showed the mates Vanno,
Jocko and Jack and embarrassed him. This demonstrates that there is always a good laugh as an
Australian. Romance is another key theme in the movie Red dog. John has never stayed in the same
place for more than two years but this time he stays in Dampier for one particular reason. He was in
love with Nancy. Love, relationships and romance are all very common in Australia. People make
sacrifices to be with the people they love. There is also sadness and tragedy in Australia. Whether it be
a loss of a friend, family member or dog. There are many sad and heart touching scenes in this film,
starting from the loss of your wife and child (Jocko), the loss of your recent new partner (Nancy) or
the loss of the famous wanderer dog (Red dog). With loss and tragedy also comes powerful memories

Graphing and Estimating
Formal Lab Report
Introduction: Today scientists put acquired data into a form of a graph. This said graph is designed to
help make predictions and furthermore, study and understand the experiment and its contents at hand.
The Graphing and Estimating lab involves just that. The lab is designed to collect data from several
tests involving burn time of a candle.
Oxygen, O2, is a kind of gas. A lot of the air we breathe as human beings is oxygen. Which is good
since we need oxygen to stay alive. Oxygen is also a primary element in fire. Fire is a chemical
process. Three elements are needed for this process: oxygen, heat and fuel. Without one of those ...

If the difference between the recorded times are more than 10%, add a third trial. Repeat these steps
with each size beaker. Calculate the average time for each beaker and record the data. The next step of
the lab exercise is determining the exact volume of the beakers used in the burn time experiment. Fill
a beaker to the top with water. Carefully pour the water from the beaker into a graduated cylinder.
Reading the meniscus, record the exact volume into a data sheet. Repeat this step with each size
beaker until all volumes are recorded into the data sheet. The final process of the Graphing and
Estimating lab is plotting the recorded data onto a graph. Using the data recorded for burn time, in
seconds, place the data on the vertical axis. Use the horizontal axis for the volume in milliliters. With
the data points plotted determine whether a straight line or a simple curve will best represent the data.
Now, obtain a jar and determine the volume. Fill the jar to the top with water. Carefully pour the water
into a graduated cylinder. Precisely record the data. Using the plotted data on the graph and the simple
curve or straight line to predict how long it would take for the flame to burn out on the candle if it was
covered with the jar that was just measured.
Results: (Data and calculations)

Respiratory Syncytial Virus
A mother brings their toddler in to the clinic, with what they think is a cold but a nurse wonders if the
child could possibly have respiratory syncytial virus (RSV). A cold and RSV are a lot alike, in the way
that they both may come across as cold like symptoms, but this is not the case. Throughout this report
one will find out what the differences between a common cold and RSV are, the signs and symptoms a
toddler may have with this virus, the treatments one may face and ways to prevent this awful and
dangerous virus. The purpose of this report is to deepen one s understanding of the respiratory

RSV will usually affect one s upper respiratory tract first before affecting the lower. It is also more
common that this virus will affect someone s upper respiratory rather than the lower respiratory.
Someone with an upper respiratory infection may come across as having the common cold, tonsillitis,
the flu, and etc. The flu is also able to occur in someone who has a lower respiratory tract infection, as
well as, bronchitis, pneumonia, bronchiolitis, and tuberculosis ( Respiratory Tract Infections, 2014).
RSV is a virus that is hard to diagnosis because the signs and symptoms are a lot like the common
cold. One may start to develop a runny nose or decrease in appetite the first couple of days when
having this virus; but coughing, sneezing, and wheezing may also occur. In young infants, they may
experience irritability or difficulties with breathing ( CDC, 2014). One may have this virus before
realizing the symptoms like a dry cough, low grade fever, sore throat or headache (Mayo Clinic,
1998). Someone with an upper respiratory tract infection may have a fever, headache, sore throat or
wheezing; whereas someone with a lower respiratory tract infection may have a cough, increased
breathing rate, tightness in the chest. While both tract infections should be taken seriously, they both
can lead to RSV.
Bronchitis and Bronchiolitis are also two very serious infections that may lead to RSV.

The Role Of Love In Ancient Greek Medicine
The Role of Love in Ancient Greek Medicine
Among the many Gods and Goddesses of Ancient Greece, one that was worshipped on multiple levels
and to a great extent was Love. This divine force held a powerful role in many aspects of the Greeks
lives, including the understanding of their own bodies. As the society s culture moved away from
reliance on the Divine, and towards a more scientific method of understanding itself, the notion of
love remained ingrained in the set assumptions; its dual ability to cure and destroy underscored the
practices of medicine and the understandings of human anatomy.
For the ancient Greek doctor and philosopher, Eryximachus, Love s potential for health and
destruction were ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The Greeks saw Love as the substance of all matter, and therefore, at the center of their own living
bodies, making Eryximachus statement, The science of medicine is completely governed by Love
(Symposium 21), a sharp intuition. With this observation at the core of their medicinal understandings,
the ancient Greeks doctors approach to healing was through the means of manipulating the force of
Love.
The intricacies of the doctors love manipulating methods were interwoven with the duality notion of
love. With Love s power to heal or destroy, the doctors needed to push the love into the healing realm,
and learn how to shift it away from its destructive tendencies. A major way they practiced this was by
reconciling extremes of hostility between the bodily elements, and (of) making them love one another
(Symposium 21). The balancing of hot and cold, sweet and bitter, and wet and dry appears a number
of times in many different treatments. To cure hysterical suffocation in a woman, the doctor washes
her thoroughly with hot water and uses sweet scented fumigations beneath her vagina, but foul scented
ones at her nose (Medicine and Anatomy 345). If the woman s womb is displaced, she is washed with
hot water, and a variety of sweet, and not so sweet, pessaries are applied to her, ranging

Frederick Douglass Chapter 3 Analysis
In the first chapter of the book Narrative of the life of Frederick Douglass, Frederick douglass gives us
first hand stories about him being a young slave. Frederick was not allowed to go to his mother s
burial and he did not know his own birthday as well both of which I find very crazy because everyone
knows their birthday but for slaves that was a common occurrence, and to not be able to see your own
mother s burial sounds awful. Douglass also witnessed the whipping of his aunt at a young age and he
wrote about it in extreme detail, for any young child this must be scaring. The whipping was a
punishment for Douglass s aunt because she went to see another slave from a different plantation, in
my opinion this is a incredibly harsh punishment for trying to visit another slave. Douglass Says It
was a most terrible spectacle. I wish I could commit to paper the feelings with which I beheld it
(Douglass 4). Douglass says this when he is talking about his aunt getting whipped, he is saying that it
was so bad to watch he could not even put his feeling into words. All of these events emphasize how
bad it really was to be a slave and stripped of rights and to be treated like property.
Unfair slave masters
In chapter 3 douglass puts high emphasis on Colonel Lloyd and how he treated the slaves. Douglass
talks about how there are so many slaves on his plantation many of the slaves don t even know what
he looks like. Colonel Lloyd is very rich from his plantation and owns horses

Cultural Identities and Customs
As we keep moving forward towards a new ever changing future, we equip ourselves with cultural
identities and customs so that we can relay it upon our future generations. Overtime these customs
evolve and adapt with their newer inhabitants, but there are other customs that lay stagnant, not
willing to be changed by the population itself. In certain parts of the continent of Africa, an age old
tradition of female genital mutilation is still practiced to this day. While the practice is declining in
some countries, it remains almost universal in Somalia, Guinea and Egypt (The facts about female
genital mutilation interactive, 2013). Female genital mutilation (FGM) can be viewed as barbaric in
the way the procedure is carried out. It involves partial or the whole removal of the external female
genitalia or injuries to the female genitalia or organs for non medical reasons. It disrupts the natural
functions of the girls or women s bodies due to the removal or damaging healthy and normal female
genital tissue. This procedure triggers a series of real life consequences, starting with the excruciating
pain, immediate, and long term health consequences, which includes difficulties in childbirth, also
causing dangers to the child (Health Topics: Female genital mutilation, 2014). About 140 million girls
and women worldwide are living with the consequences of FGM, which is mostly carried out on
young girls between infancy and age 15 (Tran, 2014). So the question is, Is genital

Socrates And Achilles
Socrates and Achilles: the Martyr Heroes
Madelyn Vogel
ILS 205
By comparing himself to the Greek hero Achilles before the jury in Plato s Apology, Socrates attempts
to portray himself as a hero of equal merit to Achilles and others of similar standing. By selecting the
greatest of the Classical Greeks to compare and contrast himself to in his argument, Socrates
surreptitiously urges his audience to view him as being of the same caliber as Achilles. This not only
authenticates Socrates claims, but also exhibits his disconnect from earlier forms of thought.
Essentially, Socrates attempts to display himself in the same light as his predecessor Achilles through
their shared aspiration to do what they deem to be right in addition to their ... Show more content on

At the battle of Troy, Achilles chooses almost certain death in exchange for the honor of avenging
Patroclus. As Socrates paraphrases, when his mother said to him, as he was eager to slay Hector, My
son, if you avenge the death of your friend Patroclus and kill Hector, you yourself shall die; for
straightway, after Hector, is death appointed unto you, (The Apology, 28c). However, Socrates is
relatively loose in his representation of Achilles. Homer s Achilles is focused primarily on private
affairs as seen when he only agrees to return to battle to avenge personal loss in the form of his
beloved Patroclus (The Iliad, book 18, 120). Contrastingly, Socrates represents the Greek hero as
being much more absorbed by the necessity of attaining honor and justice for both himself and his
peers. Through this specific example, Socrates makes it apparent that, he, like Achilles before him, is
both willing and able to die if that is what it takes to find truth. He will under no circumstances
condemn any of his actions just to save his life. Socrates primary motivation for comparing himself to
Achilles, the best of all the classic heroes, is to convince the jury of his Achillean heroism. One
attribute of a hero according to the events of the Iliad is that one must either kill or be killed in the
pursuit of honor. Correspondingly, the Iliad chronicles Achilles life and death on the natural path to
heroism. Despite the

Role Of Fate In Antigone
Antigone s blinding loyalty to her family and to the gods launches her into Creon s deathly
punishment because she goes against his order meanwhile upholding the law of the gods and buries

judgement. Her rashness and thoughtlessness comes from her undiscerning loyalty to her family and
the divinities, and rage toward Creon for disrespecting the dead, which relates back to the rule of
heaven. Upon being questioned by Creon, Antigone replies fearlessly, That order did not come from

  • 2. Principles Of The International Olympic Committee Within every business or organization, there must be a set of values and goals that are established to prove consistency throughout their existence. These values and principles are there for them to follow and to lay groundwork as to how they should handle everything that encompasses their organization. In the same way, the International Olympic Committee was set to provide a charter to highlight their mission and their principles. While it has become clear that Olympism aims to promote a joy of effort, the educational value of good example, social responsibility and respect for universal fundamental ethical principles (IOC, 2015, p.13), it has also become evident that they must partner with sponsors to avoid debt like in the example of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This in return turns out to be misleading to the investors, but since General Electric is also sponsoring the Olympics this could cause one to question the true stance on their sponsorship. By General Electric deviating from SEC rules, it s as if the International Olympic Committee were not to follow the charter and to be going against their values of following good governance within their organization. Considering the above contradiction, a solution would be to get more involved in the governance of General Electrics. A way to do this would be to have the International Olympic Committees financial auditors evaluate and monitor General Electric s financial auditors and double check their work. This would ensure that any wrong doing on General Electric s behalf be taken care of immediately and with advice from the International Olympic Committee on making the right decision that will go along with their values. Through this solution, the Olympics don t risk losing a highly ranked company as a sponsor, but can also aid in reducing irrevocable mistakes. Furthermore, two other sponsors, Samsung and Panasonic have undergone scandals that contradict the Olympics values. In November of 2016, Samsung and Panasonic were under investigation for abusing labor rights. In their supply chains in Malaysia, workers seemed to be deceived regarding pay and worked long hours with an inadequate amount of rest (Pattison, 2016). As sponsors of the ... • 3. The Terrorist Attacks Of The United States September 11, 2001, started as a perfect day, but as the day went on, chaos and terror erupted in the streets of New York City. New York s iconic World Trade Center fell victim to hijacked commercial airlines filled with innocent people. In 102 minutes, the world was forever changed by one of the worst attacks the United States has ever experienced. Many factors made the terrorist attacks of September 11th a day that is permanently etched into the hearts and minds of Americans. Nineteen radicals linked to the Islamic terrorist group al Qaeda gained control over four airplanes and carried out attacks against targets in the United States on 9/11. (History.com Authors) Their leader, Osama Bin Laden, and his followers viciously opposed the United States. In al Qaeda s opinion, the United States was an infidel because it was not governed in a manner consistent with the group s extremist interpretation of Islam. Other characteristics of America aggravated the extremist group as well, including our foreign policy and supporting enemies of al Qaeda. Because of his hatred of America, Bin Laden declared a Jihad, or holy war, against the United States, which he has carried out through al Qaeda and its affiliated organizations. (Smith) As a result, the United States faced many violent attacks with the group, including the bombing in 1993 that took place before the attacks on September 11th. • 4. Treaty of Waitangi TREATY OF WAITANGI The Treaty of Waitangi is an agreement between the British Crown and the Maori people. The Treaty of Waitangi was signed on the sixth of February 1840 by 43 Northland chiefs and Lieutenant Governor Hobson. The Treaty recognized Maori people occupied New Zealand prior to British. The Treaty of Waitangi allowed the Crown to set up a government to establish laws, and recognised that Māori people owned their lands and other properties. The immigrants (British citizens) could come and live here in peace. Meanwhile, Maori gained the some rights as British citizens. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Essentially the Treaty was an attempt to establish a system of property rights for land with the Crown controlling and overseeing land sale, to prevent abuse. Initially this worked well. Māori were eager to sell land, and settlers eager to buy. The Crown mediated the process to ensure that the true owners were properly identified (difficult for tribally owned land) and fairly compensated, by the standards of the time. However after a while Māori became disillusioned and less willing to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Going To College Research Paper As a result of several motivational purposes, there are many driving factors to go to college that can and will impact one s life. Before going to college, I waited 2 ½ years after I graduated high school to finally make my decision to go to college. The reason it took me so long is that I did not know what I wanted to do with my life. First, I wanted to be a probation officer, then I changed my mind to be an OBGYN, then finally I made the decision to become a nurse. I know I have a long road of schooling ahead of me, but that is okay. I have wonderful people in my life that encourage me to continue my studies. Going to college is important since it can open many opportunities to get into a better career field, it is a fun experience, and it can also start a tradition in my family. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Applicants who have obtained a college degree are normally hired at a higher pay rate and are considered to be much more employable. This means that I, as a college graduate, would be more likely to be offered the job position than someone that did not attend college or get a degree. College will also help in preparing an individual such as myself for a career in a particular field. In almost all of the highly specialized job professions, if one does not have a college degree, there is little to no possibility of securing a career in that field. Also, college will give students like me the tools to succeed in the career path of my choosing. These tools may not be available to people who do not attend college. • 6. Ojibwe Creation Myths A Whole New World Part A: Eternal inflation is an alternative theory of creation that is a modification of the Big Bang Theory. The earliest universe was expanding matter, and particles that were next to each other would routinely be sent whizzing away to the farthest reaches of their cosmological horizons. It is no longer like that, however, as the inflation stopped. The theory of eternal inflation is that the expansion did not stop all at once. Rather, little bubbles of space randomly stopped inflating, or fell onto trajectories that led to the end of their inflation. And, since the expansion is rapid, the inflating space creates more space than the bubbles that stop inflating lose so inflation never ends. The result is an ever expanding multiverse, which means not only is Earth not the center of the universe but our universe isn t the center of the universe. Part B: The Ojibwa are an Aboriginal people in Canada. The creation story of the Ojibwa starts with nothing except a dark void; however, although there was nothing, there was possibility. This means although there was nothing ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Both stories start with nothing, but from the nothingness the Ojibwa believe there is one all powerful being and the Māroi believe there are two. This is where the differences become more prominent, because the Māroi story depicts the beings as being almost human like: they give birth and have flaws, flaws which lead to eventual conflict. The Ojibwa, however, depict a being of unfathomable power and wisdom whose vision should be altered by no one. The real difference, however, is most prominent today. The first two beings of Māroi culture, Rangi and Papa, are not worshipped with the intensity that the Ojibwa allow Kitchi Manitou. There are issues that arise whether natural, traditional and spiritual or modern medicine is the best for Ella s situation. While modern medicine could be the best choice the traditions and beliefs play a large part in the decision making of the care she will receive. With Ella having a very diverse family, there are many micro, mezzo and macro influences that effect the both Ella and her family. The different options for Ella treatments all have their benefits and drawbacks. While looking at all for the options it is important to provide the best care possible for the patient and family. Throughout this paper I will be using Ella, the grandmother from the Introduction to the Miller Family as an example to provide information on how to prove the best care and support in these types of situations. (Smith, 2013) Ella has been diagnosed with breast cancer and has been treating it naturally. She has chosen to treat naturally because she grew up on a farm and believes in natural healing verse modern medicine. • 8. Research Paper On Cleopatra Tiffany Bowland Kate Jennings Western civilization 13 July 2016 Cleopatra the queen of the Nile: When I think back to Roman and Egyptian times the first name that comes to mind is Cleopatra. I envy her for many reasons. She was a great ruler, she had riches, she had fame and most of all she had an epic love story. There were not many female rulers or females with power when you look into history. Cleopatra is an example of many things, and is the epitome of a powerful historical female. Her name is synomious with beauty, power, intrigue and ultimately tragedy. In 69 BC Cleopatra was born into an Egyptian dynasty. A dynasty in decline and under the protection of Rome. With her death Cleopatra has achieved immortality through the personal story of love and tragedy. When we think of Cleopatra we automatically think of this story. But upon the research I learned that there were others and she was actually Cleopatra 7. Many books, plays, movies and stories have been made about the great queen of the Nile. Some tell us different sides of the story. Each have a little bit of difference in them so who really knows which one to believe. One thing is certain; Cleopatra was a great female ruler for her 22 years as the Egyptian queen. Ironically enough she wasn t even Egyptian or roman for that matter. She and her family were Greek. There are also many works that suggest that she was not a very pretty woman. Cleopatra s happiness didn t last, which seems that just like in all love stories her life doesn t have a happy ending. Another side of the story is that Marc killed himself after being surrounded by Octavia s troops, and then Cleopatra being held prisoner which is why she killed herself. I was very intrigued by each story that I read of Cleopatra s life and death and her rule, and I feel like I learned a lot. I think I will go on to watch some of the movies to see them played ... The atmosphere is different at each task, considering that desk duty is more laid back while rounds consisted of being more alert with the surrounding area. While each are polar opposites of one another, they are both crucial when working as an RA. I began my shadowing at the front desk and I was surprised to hear that not all RAs have to work the front desk. • 11. Essay on Analysis of Birches by Robert Frost In the poem Birches by Robert Frost, Frost portrays the images of a child growing to adulthood through the symbolism of aging birch trees. Through these images readers are able to see the reality of the real world compared to there carefree childhood. The image of life through tribulation is the main focal point of the poem and the second point of the poem is if one could revert back to the simpler times of childhood. The language of the poem is entirely arranged through images, although it contains some diction it lacks sound devices, metaphors, and similes compared to other published works by Frost. So low for long, they never right themselves represents how they will never be able to relive their childhood. While the first half of the poem deals with the coming of age the second half of the poem deals with childhood and wanting to stay young for as long as possible. The first image of childhood by Frost is when Truth broke in With all her matter of fact about the ice storm, I should prefer to have some boy bend them. A boy bending the trees in stead of ice storm allows the tree to never age because they will always return to their original shape and never break by the burden of a load. This is further expressed By riding them down over and over again Until he took the stiffness out of them. Once the trees lose their stiffness the boy can play on them repeatedly without having to worry about them breaking therefore if they never shatter or falling then youthfulness will always be his. Finally Frost talks about how he would like to go back to being a boy swinging and climbing on trees just as he did when he was younger by saying So was I once myself a swinger of birches. And so I dream of going back to be. I d like to get away from earth awhile And then come back to it and begin over . And life is too much ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 12. Nt131 Unit 3 Paper All three of the policies are in some way a little bit different than the current system in place in New York. Delaware uses a three tier system that allows the state and local government to share the responsibility of making decisions regarding distribution. Tier 1 provides funding for the cost for such things as teachers salaries and their benefits. In addition, this Tier determines the amount of money needed per pupil, meaning that the number of students in the district determines the amount of funds that a district received. People were tired of getting caught in the cross fire, they wanted protection, a chance and the freedom to live. Although there was a lack of human rights before World War II, human rights have significantly improved over the post war period, and officials are putting forth efforts to ensure that human rights are protected in modern day society. One of the main reasons that the 1905 revolution failed was because the October Manifesto merely only satisfied the middle classes appetite for reform. However this was only a short term change in government therefore it was not really a revolution because the changes were not permanent. To add, the readiness of the liberals to accept the government s political and economical bribes indicted that they were not genuinely ready for a revolution at this time. Furthermore the duma did not have as much power as the tsar portrayed them to have. They were not able to pass laws and did not have any control on the state s finance. The director must also be capable to decide whether it is the corporation s best interest to have CEO participation with a corporate board. Also, the board of directors make decisions for shareholders as a fiduciary, while seeking commercial stability of the company. The board of directors is in charge of hiring and firing executives. Impact Of The Affordable Care Act Policy Background When the Affordable Care Act (ACA) was enacted on March 23rd, 2010, it transformed the lives of people all over the US, in states who expanded. It allowed families to qualify for government programs such as Medicaid, CHIP, and government subsidies, and for young adults to stay on their parent s insurance until the age of 26. The ACA was a sign of relief and good news for all but two groups, lawful permanent residents and undocumented immigrants. In 2012, DACA recipients under the DREAM Act also became part of the groups excluded, leaving more than 6.5 million unable to access affordable care. In order to make a change, the New Mexico Rep. The act is intended to break down barriers for women and their families by expanding the definition of lawfully present instituted under the Social Security Act in the Medicaid Section 1903. By amending subparagraph (A) to expand the definition of lawfully present to include such an individual who is granted deferred action or other federally authorized presence other than as a nonimmigrant (H.R. 2788, 2017). When taking a closer look at these women, researchers found that 51% live below the federal poverty level (FDL) and are often ineligible for health care programs such as Medicaid (Guttmacher Institute , 2016). The phenomenon can be partially explained by noting how Korean popular culture catapulted forward during the 1990s, leaving much of Asia behind as it abandoned conservatism and censorship, diversifying, appropriating, absorbing and innovating. In its fusions, it created an Asian equivalent of European and American pop. Japanese pop, of course, had long had this function throughout the region, but the 1990s was a time for re examining the Pacific War s legacy, and Korea offered a less tainted alternative to Japan. Although they are known for showing their support through watching their Korean pop idols and buying Korean pop merchandise, they go beyond than that; these fandoms also organize parties and charitable events to help the needy and at the same time, to mingle with their fellow KPop fans. It can be argued that the story is not just a reflection of the events in the 20th Century but the novel reflects the events that continue to happen until today in socialism. To reverse this scenario, community forestry became a popular approach in the 1970s as a modern policy and practice (Baker and Kusel, 2003). • 25. Heroic Ignorance And Gothic Novels By Jane Austen Heroic Ignorance and Gothic Novels Jane Austen s novel, Northanger Abbey, seeks to explore the effect of wealth on society. Throughout the novel, this portrayal of wealth assumes an increasingly critical tone, and is thus used to suggest the negative impact of financial goals in a relationship. This is shown in the contrast between Catherine s relationship with Mr. Tilney, and Isabella s promiscuous ways. In this dynamic, Catherine remains pure, engaged to a poor clergyman, whereas her friend Isabella ensnares men in the hopes of gaining wealth and societal status. Through this dynamic, Austen provides an example of the British Romantic ideal that both love and the individual are only pure and righteous when freed from the constraints of society and affluence. Ironically, the Gothic novels that were prevalent in the later part of the British Romantic Period are frequently cited as a source of misfortune throughout the novel. Catherine, who is portrayed as good and pure, is misled into believing that the stories spun in Gothic novels are applicable to her own life. Her friend, Isabella, is also portrayed as a lover of the genre, which is Austen s way of hinting at Isabella s future sins. Although the Gothics influence both Catherine and Isabella, Austen portrays the characters as opposites one the promiscuous villain and one the victim of the heroic tale. Austen continuously comments on the nature of heroism, and thus mocks the timid Catherine while ironically branding her a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Douglass also witnessed the whipping of his aunt at a young age and he wrote about it in extreme detail, for any young child this must be scaring. By selecting the greatest of the Classical Greeks to compare and contrast himself to in his argument, Socrates surreptitiously urges his audience to view him as being of the same caliber as Achilles. As Socrates paraphrases, when his mother said to him, as he was eager to slay Hector, My son, if you avenge the death of your friend Patroclus and kill Hector, you yourself shall die; for straightway, after Hector, is death appointed unto you, (The Apology, 28c). However, Socrates is relatively loose in his representation of Achilles. Homer s Achilles is focused primarily on private affairs as seen when he only agrees to return to battle to avenge personal loss in the form of his beloved Patroclus (The Iliad, book 18, 120). Contrastingly, Socrates represents the Greek hero as being much more absorbed by the necessity of attaining honor and justice for both himself and his peers. Through this specific example, Socrates makes it apparent that, he, like Achilles before him, is both willing and able to die if that is what it takes to find truth. He will under no circumstances condemn any of his actions just to save his life. Socrates primary motivation for comparing himself to Achilles, the best of all the classic heroes, is to convince the jury of his Achillean heroism.
