2. The Crux Research Paper
The Crux is more commonly known as the Southern Cross, its name being Latin for cross. Although it
was seen by the Ancient Greeks, it was known to be part of the constellation Centaurus. The stars that
make up the cross are: Alpha Crucis, Beta, Gamma, Delta and Epsilon. Quite a few of the
constellation s brighter stars are also members of the Centaurus / Scorpios association. The reason I
chose this constellation is because of its significance to my country. The Southern Cross is on the
national flag, and I have always wondered about the legends and reasons behind this constellation.
This constellation was, as mentioned above, part of Centaurus, so there was no traditional myth about
its creation. However, Crux was not separated as a singular constellation until 1516, by Italian
explorer Andreas Corsali. Quite derivatively, the Southern Cross (Crux) was named for its shape, and
the hemisphere that can see it. The Ancient Greeks once were able to see it, but over time it
disappeared over the horizon, so now the southern hemisphere can see it. ... Show more content on

The man lived in a lonely, barren country, with only the wild beasts to keep him company. The man,
sick of chasing after all the wildebeest and other animals for food, with only his spear to help him
hunt, sat down under a tree. As he looked up into the branches, he noticed the boughs of the tree, and
realised that this material could help him make a tool to hunt with. Man, filled with renewed energy,
set to work carving a cross, using a stone tool to help him shape the wood. A few work filled hours
later, Man held the wooden cross up to the moonlight. He spied a lone beast grazing in the grass a
short distance away. Man held up the cross, and threw with all his might. The wooden cross, spinning
and whirling, hit the beast squarely on the head, knocking it dead. Man made a loud whooping sound.
No more chasing wild animals all day! From then on, Man used his new creation to hunt for

Karel Benz was the first person to make the car. The first car was known as the Motorwagen.
Karel Benz was also the creator of a car company that still exists today. It took a lot of improvements
and redesigning of the car to make it run smoothly and efficiently. The creation of the car had a huge
impact on the modern world.
Karl Benz was born in 1884 in Karlsruhe. His father died due to an accident when Benz was 2 years
old. Even though his father died Benz s mother supported him and his education.
After a lot of hard work Benz was able to be admitted to the University of Karlsruhe at the age

The internal combustion engine is vital to the modern automobile. An internal combustion engine uses
an explosive combustion of fuel to push a piston within a cylinder. The piston moves to turn a
crankshaft that is connected to the car s wheels through a drive shaft.
Without an engine a car could not move. The internal combustion engine has a long history of how it
was improved and redesigned, without which the car would wouldn t be able to function.
In 1680 Christiaan Huygens designed an internal combustion engine fueled by gunpowder. Then in
1826 Samuel Brown altered a steam engine to burn gasoline and put it on a carriage. Later Jean Joseph
Etienne Lenoir patented a double acting, spark ignition internal combustion engine fueled by coal gas
in 1858. Then he improved the engine so it would run on petroleum and it was attached to a three
wheeled wagon which could travel 50 miles. In 1873 an
American engineer named George Brayton developed a two stroke kerosene engine. Then in
1876 Nikolaus August Otto improved the two stroke kerosene engine into the four stroke engine.

8. Run Lola Run by Tom Tykwer
Run Lola Run by Tom Tykwer is a stunning film incorporating an array of distinctively visual
features. Distinctively visual texts are designed to manipulate the way we explore the images we see
and affects the way we make interpretations of the experiences we encounter in the world. The
distinctively visuals represented Tykwer s film, is significantly strong as unique images dominate the
screen to create a thrilling and suspenseful film. The story is told through images, symbols and motifs
as there is a noticeably limited amount of dialogue. I always start with an image as quoted by Tykwer
emphasising his unique ways of depicting his ideas. The most significant visual conveyed throughout
Run Lola Run is that of time. There are several references to the limited amount of time Lola has to
save Manni from Ronnie and his gang. The film is played out in real time as each run takes 20 minutes
to complete, adding an atmosphere of realism and tension toward the viewer. Tykwer incorporates a
variety of symbolic representations of time through the constant use of clocks. In the opening
sequence, the viewer observes a large and dominating pendulum of the gargoyal clock swinging
loudly from side to side. As Lola runs out of the apartment, we observe a clock in Lola s bedroom.

the clock outside reminding him of how much time he has left. This constant recurring image of

9. William Goldman s The Princess Bride
In the story The Princess Bride we read of action and adventure, and if you have watched the movie
you have a very romantic view of the tale. Before I read the book that was my view, which after
reading the book, I found to be incomplete. Fortunately, I have read the book and my view of this
adventure has changed from a less romantic one to a more realist thought. I believe that what William
Goldman was trying to tell us, in his book version of the story, is that life is made up of reality,
sprinkled with what I would call romanticism of the realist. What I mean by this is that even realists
must have a desire to believe in Twoo wuv. In the end what we find is that even though we have our
romantic notions, life happens and life is what ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Morgenstern. We first find him as a young boy who was not interested in anything, other than
baseball, and wishing that his teacher was actually his mother. So wrapped up in this he even
fantasizes that one day his father would come clean and declare his teacher as being his real mother.
His young character self was not involved in much and his teacher described him as being a late
bloomer even though he had no idea what that meant. We see in this part of the book that his life was
full of dreams, things he hoped for and wished for.
Shortly after this we find him with pneumonia, unable to go to school and confined to his bed. One
day he is surprised to see his dad come into his room with a book and without announcing what he is
doing, begins by reading the title of the first chapter The Bride. This is the point in his life where
everything changed for him. His future career as a writer is credited in this simple act of his father
reading the story to him. He went from only caring about sports and games to not being able to get
enough from books. This particular book he describes as the single best thing that happened to me
(sorry about that, Helen; Helen is my wife, the hot shot child psychiatrist). Here we once again see
realism show through. You can see here that he was drawn to a book with true love, which in his own
life did not exist. I think we see here the reality in our desire to want to be inspired

successful and wealthy merchant who lost everything in a risky trade. Colonel Killigrew wasted his

12. The Theory Of Evolution Of Human History And Modern Thinking
Since the dawn of time, the theory of evolution has played an important role in the process of
understanding human history and modern thinking. However, this theory didn t always have an
explicit term to clarify its meaning. Philosophers embraced the ideals of knowledge and enlightenment
of reason searching for answers as to better understand the origins of mankind and how it attributes to
what it means to be human. Alongside social progress and intellectual development, fascinating new
discoveries were made through observation and experimentation, and as a result, the revolutionary
realm of science emerged to become a timeless, universally systematic phenomenon of practiced
knowledge. Thus, it was during the beginning of this scientific era, when individuals like Jean
Baptiste Lamarck and Charles Darwin incorporated the theory of evolution as an understanding of
progressive change and development of different species over time. And so, this fresh, scientific
phenomenon allowed great thinkers examine how the notion of evolution has an influence on society
from a philosophical standpoint. Although they express differing perspectives on the subject, Gilman,
Veblen, and Freud ultimately illuminate how evolution is denoted by the development of instincts and
affected by how they are either suppressed or acted upon to attain happiness.
As a female philosopher, Charlotte Perkins Gilman s Women Economics, argues that Darwin s
theories on the process of human evolution portray the

Goats Milk The bus came to a screeching stop, I stood up and walked down the aisle and off the bus. I
walked up the driveway and into my house. I went down the spiral staircase and then I set my bag
down by my computer. I went back up the stairs and into the kitchen to get a snack, there I find my
mom doing the dishes. I get out the toaster and was about ready to put toast in when my mother said,
Glad your home, you should go to the barn and check on the goats. They have been making more
noise than usual. I will go down, I said. So I went out the kitchen and through the door, I took a right,
and then took a left down the big hill. Then I walked down sixteen stairs until I was in the chicken

So I took Oscar s collar and lead him out the door. Then I got Franklin and George out of the barn.
Then I got Annie, Bonnie, and Cristal out and closed the door. Then I went back to look at Evie and
the hoofs were out further and this time you could see the nose. Then I went and got some hay and put
it in a pile behind her. Then I made another pile for me to sit on since I was still in my school clothes.
Since the sack was already broken I did not need to break it, so I held on to the hoofs and every time
she had a contraction I would pull slightly so that it would be easier. Then I heard the opening and
closing of doors, then I saw my mom coming around the corner. How is it going? She asked. Fine, the
kid s hoofs and legs are out, I said still watching Evie. After three more contractions the kid comes
sliding out, and into the new world. I take the towel and wipe off all the slime that was on the kid s

Not long after May 11, 1998 at Pokhran, a betray site in the Indian province of Rajasthan, gatherings
of neighborhood Bishnoi herders whose traditions prohibit murdering creatures or cutting trees heard a
gigantic blast, and viewed in astonishment as a colossal clean cloud coasted in the sky. What the
Indian ranchers did not understand, but rather the representatives in Washington and around the globe
soon got a handle on, was the way that India had quite recently joined the United States, Russia,
England, France and China as the most up to date individual from the atomic club. On that warm May
evening, Indian atomic researchers effectively detonated three nuclear gadgets adding up to around six
times the ruinous energy of the American bomb dropped on Hiroshima in 1945. The following day, as
the world endeavored to retain the alarming news, India touched off two more atomic blasts.
Indeed, even as 90% of Indians acclaimed then Prime Minister Vajpayee s choice to go atomic, at that
point U.S. President Clinton quickly responded to the blasts with stun and reprimanded India s atomic
trying. The American President contended that India s activities damaged the Comprehensive Test Ban

THE REIVEW ABOUT THE FUTURE THE MATRIX
Directed by Larry Lana Wachowski and Andy Wachowski
This documentary provides an entertaining and compelling introduction to the new biology. It shows
us what the future of medicine and healthcare will look like. Abilities that conventional science still
treats as anomalies but that frontier scientists are taking seriously. It provides some of the theories that
are reshaping the study of biology, health, physiology, and medicine. It s an ambitious film that hits
the mark in introducing the general public to difficult subjects (medicine, physics, healing) in an
engaging and easy to understand way.
The film is captivating in its content, presentation and flow, working from personal stories of healing
that defies conventional explanation to mainstream medical and scientific knowledge to frontier
theories and explanations. It leads us on a journey into the body that many people may find both
surprising and changing, taking us beyond the cells to the bioenergetics and bio informational fields
that may actually regulate the body and its systems at its deepest, most fundamental level. ... Show

25. The Theme Of War And Reflection Of Homer s Iliad
Through the course of history, the theme of war has been highlighted, dating back as far as Homer s
Iliad written around the year(s) 800 700 BC. The glorification of the heroic ideals of warriors took a
turn over the middle ages and drastically redefined how poetry took to it after the advent of
gunpowder. It is important to note here of what caused such a shift of emphasis on wars and warriors.
The key aspect was the technological advancement of modern warfare, dealing damage and
destruction in scale previously unimaginable and possibly paving way to new forms of warfare
complimented by new ideologies and advent of postmodernity. To add to this, the patriotic and
pastoral depiction of courage and brave soon took a turn after and during the ... Show more content on

It is written in alternating seven line stanzas (rhyme scheme: ABABBCC) and eight line stanzas in a
ballad format (rhyme scheme: ABCBDEFE). The poem achieves extends itself not only to the war of
the contemporary times but also move beyond to prophesise that the future of warfare will bring forth
only death and misery. The poem is contextualised in the episode of Iliad where Achilles shield has
been taken by Patroclus to battlefield where he get slain and the shield taken away by Hector. Due to
this, Thetis, the mother to Achilles and a Goddess requests Hephaestus to craft a new shield for her
son Achilles. The poem depicts how Thetis loves her son and wishes all boon for Achilles and the
world which comes in stark contrast with what Hephaestus engraves on the shield. The second stanza

26. Art of Love
The Art of Love
Framing for a Misogynist
The poetry of Ovid exemplified in The Art of Love is one of the only examples of the contemporary
social behavior exhibited during the time of Rome. Ovid writes about social activities, proper style,
women, and how to obtain them. Through Ovid s perspective, there are three different ways to
consider a woman. These three views include relating a woman to a game, a beautiful treasure, and as
a means to assert social status. Comparatively, Andreas Capellanus writes in a way that makes women
seem respected, worthy and as something to a man would willingly devote his life to. Both men have a
clear fascination with women and their relationship to men. However, their distinct writing styles

The view Ovid takes on women is not always clear. In some passages he has a violent perspective on
women. Ovid writes about how he easily could have taken advantage of women, displaying a negative
viewpoint of ownership towards females. Similarly he says never a virgin there was free from the lust
of a hand , which shows that men desire women, and a virgin is held as a high prize, one that is worth
committing the act of adultery for (Art 1. 89 126). On the other end, Capellanus views the trophy of
virginity as futile and counters that while you know some other man is enjoying the embraces of your
beloved, this will make you begin to value her solaces all the more (2.2, 3). Furthermore, he makes the
argument against adultery, again opposing the views of Ovid. Capellanus explains his argument in
detail by stating that a man in love is adorned with the virtue of chastity, because he who shines with
the light of one love can hardly think of embracing another woman, even a beautiful one (1.4, 2).
Contrary to many men who believe that a man must be strong and not show a woman his tenderness,
Ovid shares his heart, saying, do not think it a shame to suffer her blows or her curses; do not think it
a shame, stooping, to kiss her feet (Art 2. 522 553) . This is simply an outstanding statement, as it
serves to show the true emotion and character of Ovid. This statement cannot be taken lightly

the way of theaters to how we know them today. Theaters like The Globe,The Swan, The Rose and
The Curtin. These were a few of the main theaters at the time. The role that these theaters played was
very important and influential to the culture of theaters in today s society. In England there were pretty
much two different kinds of buildings. There were outside playhouses which were used for things like
bear baiting. And Inns, which are basically inside theaters. Eventually these turned into public and
private theaters. Public theaters were mostly found in the suburbs. Public theaters were The Rose, The
Globe, The Curtain, and The Theater. People could get into a public theater for as little as one cent, but
they had to stand on the ground, they were called groundlings. Public theaters typical held about 3,000
people. Private theatres were located in the City of London. Private theaters held around 700 people at
a time. Private theaters included Saint Paul s Cathedrals and The Blackfriars. The Theater became the

Effects of Sucrose Concentration on Rate of Diffusion Through Osmosis
Introduction:
Many human beings undergo dialysis to filter waste from their blood due to the fact that their kidneys
are not working properly. The blood is filtered through a selectively permeable membrane which
separates waste from the blood, essentially pumping clean blood back into the body. This is a form of
osmosis, which by definition, is the net movement of water across a selectively permeable membrane,
which was our dialysis bag in this experiment. (Eisenbach et al. 2017). Showing the importance of the
type of selectively permeable membrane used as it allows different substances to go through it. People
who have kidney failure or a kidney disease can become dependent on the use of dialysis to keep them
alive. The rate for those who need dialysis and hospitalization continues to grow as these patients fall
victim to cardiovascular disease and infection such as sepsis (Thompson and Pannu 2011). Factors
that increase the effects of osmosis include temperature, as temperature increases salt transport, and
plays a role in water flux, water viscosity, and osmotic pressure (Zhao and Zou 2011). The rate at

The Dilemma of Hydropower Development on the Mekong
Introduction
The Don Sahong Hydropower Project (DSHP) puts Laos under pressure. On one hand, the Lao
government seeks the opportunity to boost economic growth through producing and selling the
electricity. On the other hand, DSHP raises the transboundary concerns. Thailand, Cambodia, and
Vietnam as stakeholders on the Don Sahong Dam have voiced opposition to the development of the
dam. This is because the project will block the main channel for fish migration and reducing the
number of fish in the Lower Mekong Basin (LMB) that will threaten the environmental sustainability
and fisheries industry. Even though Laos has investigated negative impacts of the DSHP and proposed
widening other channels to provide alternative routes, the stakeholders concluded that there is
insufficient scientific information available about the alternative routes and the lack of information on
possible trans boundary impacts by the Project (MRC 2014). These challenges clearly display the
wicked problems because the problems are complex, persistent, decentralized, having multiple
stakeholders, evading definitive formulation, and lack if obvious solutions (Howes Wyrwoll 2012).
This essay further suggests the solution for DSPP s dispute by creating a small dam, conducting
further research, forming a treaty. In addition, Cost Benefit Analysis (CBA) can be a foundation for
better decision making on sustainable development of all mainstream

They could see the symptoms easily enough lack of power, lack of oxygen but had no clue about the
underlying disease that had befallen their ship (Bizony). Unfortunately the men only had a small
triangular window to look out onto the ship. When one of the astronauts finally saw a large clue
Lovell called in that he had seen a gas blowing into space. The substance coming out happened to be
from the cryogenic tank explosion, but how did it happen? Not long after the Apollo 13 accident, they
put months of investigation in and just happened to find out where the mistake was made. Back in
1968while the oxygen tanks were being manufactured one of them happened to be dropped, but the
tank still passed it s quality checks and was sent out. Meanwhile, three weeks before Apollo 13 there
was a test run on the cryogenic tanks and how they can carry their load. Every tank gets pre flight
testing but when this particular tank was tested it seemed to show it had a damaged fill line. Meaning
it would not empty the contents as desired. When the tank was getting pre flight tests the tanks were
emptied by forcing oxygen gas into the tank and the liquid oxygen was forced out, but while in space
the tanks did not need to be emptied. Heaters were located in the tank in order to heat the inside of it
to keep the oxygen flowing and this would only be used for short periods of time. The plan was to use
these heaters to essentially boil off any excess oxygen, this would then need 8 hour of 65 volt DC
power. The thermostatically controlled switches on the heater were only made for 28 volt DC power
so this led people to believe they were damaged from that mistake. This would then cause the switches
to weld shut meaning the temperature would rise over 1000 degrees F inside the tank.

36. The Pros And Cons Of Computer Science
What is Computer Science? Is it about observing scientific experiments on a computer? Is it a type of
engineering for computers? Well to answers those thoughts, no. Computer Science is all about the
software side of computers. Coding is the key word. Running and creating programs is what computer
science is. To create software, one must know a programming language. So then the big question is,
for a computer programmer what coding language should they learn?
First off, the language C is known by many programmers as a lingua franca. A middle ground
language for coders. If coders know C, they know C++ and possibly C#. C# s syntax is similar with
C/C++ but distinct differences separate them. Microsoft created C# as a competitor to Java, so think of
this as a fork in the road for C. As stated in Wendy Logan s (2008) article, Is C dead? , she made the
point that C is the language for test engineers because of how convenient and effective it is. She also
disclosed that C can optimize code beneficially to the coder because of the language s greater access
to the hardware and operating system. This ability leads to fine tuning of the program size and
execution speed of the compiler. The article mentions how C has a well known community, so coders
have greater access to code reuse tools. C has a specific purpose in the industry because of Microsoft
Visual Studio, it gave coders of the language a place to develop for.

The aim of the current paper is to review and summarize recent research on the human MNS, asserting
that this system may provide the neural scaffold for empathy and, as a result, may have served as a
biological substrate for the evolution of our sophisticated sociality and the morality that governs it.
Section 1 serves as the general introduction, Section 1.1 discusses neuroimaging evidence in support
of the human MNS; Section 1.2 highlights the role of the MNS in understanding the intentions of
others; Section 2 discusses a form of empathy termed emotional empathy , that is the feeling of other s
feelings, putatively through a resonance mechanism implemented by the human MNS; Section 2.1
discusses the relationship between
emotional empathy and cognitive empathy a form of mentalizing that relies on higher level cognitive
processes; Section
3 discusses developmental evidence on social evaluation and empathy for pain; Section 4 aims to link
action perception to morality, using emotional empathy and social evaluation as stepping stones, and

39. The Effects Of Wound Healing On Diabetic Patients
eous wound healing and why some processes may be altered in diabetic patients
The process by which tissue repair takes place is termed wound healing and is comprised of a
continuous sequence of inflammation and repair, in which epithelial, endothelial, inflammatory cells,
platelets and fibroblasts briefly come together outside their normal domains, interact to restore a
semblance of their usual discipline and having done so resume their normal function . ( The Cellular
Biology of Wound Healing 2016)
Wound healing has 3 distinct stages, an inflammatory response, a proliferation phase and a maturation
phase, however wound healing is not a linear process and a patient can move back and forth
throughout the stages.
After the occurrence of a wound the inflammatory process immediately begins and can last up to 3
days ( Wound Healing 2016), the initial injury causes the small vessels around the wound site to be
disturbed resulting in bleeding, the body s first response is a haemodynamic one in that it restricts
these vessels in order to prevent blood loss. There then comes a rapid release of preformed
inflammatory mediators from the cells surrounding the injury, the first thing this causes is the
aggregation of platelets, these platelets adhere to extracellular surface structures which are exposed,
such as collagen and basement membranes, this in turn causes serotonin from platelet stores to be
stimulated. (Kirk, Phillips and Murray 2001)

sixty state troopers who stood in a wall three deep 400 yards past the Edmund Pettus Bridge, which
crosses the Alabama river. When black marchers came within 100 yards the troopers were ordered to
put on their gas masks. At twenty five yards the marchers stopped. Seconds later the command
troopers forward was barked. The troopers moved in a solid wall pushing back the front marchers. At
75 yards the troopers were joined by posse men and deputies with tear gas canisters, in seconds the
road was swirling with clouds of smoke. The mounted men brought out bull whips and began beating
the marchers. Never in history had the American public responded with such fury. Over 15,000
thousand people marched in five different cities across the country. On Sunday, March 21, 1965 a
crowd of 3,400 marchers lead by two Nobel Peace Prize winners, Rev. Martin Luther King Jr. and
Ralph Bunche, departed from Selma on their four day march to Montgomery. They were accompanied
by 2,900 military police,

41. Marketing Processes
Marketing plans 1. Introduction The marketing process has gained more and more significance within
the modern day business setting. As competition intensifies and the demands of customers
exponentially increase, the economic agents are forced to devise and implement new strategies that
attract and retain customers. In other words, it is no longer sufficient for a company to provide its
customers with high quality products and services, but it has to also make use of complementary
solutions, such as marketing strategies. In such a setting, the marketing effort has gained more
momentum within the business community, but also outside it. Marketing is now encountered in
business offers, educational offers or entertainment events. Throughout this project then, the focus
falls on two distinctive dimensions of marketing: the marketing plans, on the one hand, and the
application of marketing principles within the movie industry. 2. Marketing plans The marketing plans
represent the focal point of the marketing process since they integrate all the information valid and
necessary in the marketing endeavor. Marketing plans for instance integrate the research on the target
market, the identification of which is essential for final business success. The marketing plans also
integrate the analysis of the industry and the competition in an effort to help the company consolidate
the most useful competitive strategy and its points of difference. The marketing plans also include

44. The Dodgers Change The Color Barriers In Baseball
It s the final inning of the World series. It s all tied up 3 3. The Dodgers are down to their last batter
with a runner on 1st and 3rd and two outs. Strike one goes by, Strike two the batter swings and misses,
but the batter isn t going down without a fight and swings at the 3rd pitch and takes it out of the park.
The Dodgers win the World series and Jackie Robinson is the MVP of the game! Back in history at
this time when Robinson played African Americans weren t treated equally as white athletes. As a
result, no white athletes wanted to play with African Americans. But the Dodgers change the color
barrier in baseball. By enduring a plethora of racially stimulated challenges, Jackie Robinson made
history while he broke the color barrier to become one of greatest American baseball players to ever
step on a field. History in baseball has changed a enormous amount over the years. Everyone thinks
that Jackie Robinson was the first African American in the major league, but this was false. Someone
known as Moses Fleetwood Walker was the very first to play in the major leagues (Hill, 2017). Walker
was just an average player while he played in the major league (Hill, 2017). Walker isn t one of the
well known African Americans to play in major leagues. Walker faces tough challenges by not getting
treated fairly because he was African American and no one wanted to play with him (Hill, 2017). If
athletes are good enough to compete as a major league athlete shouldn t have been

45. The Philosophy Of Mind And The Body
Philosophy of mind had come across when philosophers had an idea of the concepts regarding the
human mind and its mysteries. This branch of psychology had intended to elaborate and study the
nature and aspects of the human mind, also how these concepts such as mental events, mental
functions and consciousness would connect to each other, through the human brain and body.
Philosophy of mind became one of the central areas of philosophy as the skills and abilities of
metalizing are used to treat individuals as the bearers of unobservable psychological states and
processes, and in order to anticipate and explain the individual s behavior in terms of states.
Dualism, a philosophy most defended by Rene Descartes, Believed that there are two concepts to
philosophy, regarding the mind and the body. Dualism, is possibly the oldest and the most intuitive of
the philosophies of mind, however within the modern psychology, this philosophy is a minority view
among psychologists. This theory states that the mental cannot exist outside of the body, and the body
is unable to think. It refers to reality as two distinct kind of things Mental and material things. Dualists
often believe in different concepts regarding how these would relate to each other. Dualists fall into a
variety of camps depending on how they would believe the mind and the body is related.
Interactionists see that the mental events have effects or can cause the physical effects. Epiphenomena
believe in a compromise

46. Symptoms And Treatment Of Cerebral Palsy
Words like incurable, permanent, handicap, and special needs may make cerebral palsy seem like
some big, scary disease, but with modern treatments and surgeries, the disorder can be made
extremely manageable. Cerebral palsy is a blanket term for impaired or loss of motor function due to
damage to an immature brain (Cerebral Palsy). The injury must occur before, during, or immediately
after birth to be considered cerebral palsy. Evidence suggests that most of the damage occurs during
prenatal development (Bunch 33). Cerebral palsy causing injuries can only happen to immature brains
(Bunch 32).
While every case of cerebral palsy is unique, some common causes are the prenatal disturbance of
brain cell migration, which is where genetic and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Cerebral palsy can also cause pain, discomfort, emotional distress, increased dependency, and
decreased independence. Cerebral palsy also affects body movement, reflexes, posture, balance, and
muscle control, tone, and coordination. The disease can impact fine motor skills, gross motor skills,
and oral motor functioning (Cerebral Palsy). Children with cerebral palsy may be slow in learning to
walk or talk (Bunch 34). Because of all of this, people with cerebral palsy have trouble with speaking,
eating, moving, learning, and controlling eye movements (Eurostemcell).
One of the most common side effects of cerebral palsy is spasticity. Spasticity causes increased muscle
tone and tension. Some effects of spasticity are inhibition of movement, muscle growth, and protein
synthesis, limited stretching of muscles in daily activities, muscle and joint deformities (Cerebral
Palsy). If left alone, severe spasticity can lead to permanently stiff muscles (Bunch 32).
Approximately 80 out of 100 patients with cerebral palsy have varying degrees of spasticity (Center).
While there is currently no cure for cerebral palsy, a wide variety of treatments are available (Cerebral
Palsy). The goal when treating cerebral palsy is to minimize effects of the disability, not eliminate
symptoms altogether, as that is currently not a possible option (Bunch 32). Most cases can be managed
and individuals can live long, healthy, quality lives. For less

48. Lack Of Education In Pakistan
The future successes of a nation heavily depend on the way the nation grows, shapes, and teaches their
children. Pakistan has no foreseeable success in their future because they do not invest in their
children s education. In many countries, such as the United States, it is against the law for children to
not attend school. In Pakistan, there is no such law requiring children to be formally educated. The
lack of education of Pakistani youth today creates issues which will inevitably plague Pakistani
citizens tomorrow. Pakistan has had many issues over the years regarding the education of Pakistan s
children as seen through poverty, gendered roles, and terrorism. Upon the foundation of Pakistan,
people had hoped education would one of the most significant focuses of the new government.
However, the government did not focus on the central issue of education. Instead, constant conflict
with India over Kashmir has been a primary concern which the Pakistani government has dealt with
over the years. The Taliban and their threat of destabilizing the already unstable republic have also
been a major presence in the government s mind. Pakistan has never been able to focus on aiding its
people due to constant warfare and national security concerns. As a result, Pakistan does not regulate
or assist in the education of its children. Without government support, education is also harmed by
other factors, such as the extreme poverty many Pakistani families face. Many Pakistani families

49. Malik s Memoir
Ever since I was born, I have been Malik s little sister. This has always been my identity. My brother,
Malik, was born with a multitude of disabilities. At only two days old, the doctors told my family he
was blind in one eye. By the time he was six weeks old, he had undergone three major surgeries: One
for the heart, then on the esophagus and finally, the placement of a stomach tube. At age one, my
family discovered he was 100% deaf. When he was three, he was diagnosed with CHARGE
Syndrome, an incredibly rare and complex congenital disorder. Approximately 1 in every 10,000
children are born with it. Each letter in CHARGE stands for the disabilities used to identify it. When
he was little, my parents were told time and time again by everyone ... Show more content on

Malik is completely non verbal. He communicates through only American Sign Language and/ or
gestures. Once I was asked by a woman inquiring about my relationship with my brother, How do you
know he loves you? I did not have to think for very long to come up with an answer. I can tell he loves
me when he gets upset and comes to me for a hug. I can tell he loves me when I put him to bed and he
wants me to sit with him until he falls asleep. I can tell he loves me with every tiny gesture of
affection or appreciation. Noticing these things without a doubt made me the person I am today. His
loving personality has made me want to be a more caring person for as long as I can remember. Seeing
the joy he is able to evoke in others gives me the motivation to provide people that same happiness.
My brother, Malik, is the most influential person in my life. He constantly makes me want to be a
better person, not only for him, but also for everyone else. My brother continually inspires me to show
love however I can and to go above and beyond. If Malik, with an abundance of communication and
other types of barriers, can make the world a brighter place, why shouldn t I try

51. The Impact Of Settler Colonialism In The Navajo Nation
The Diné means The People and it is what the people that we know presently as the Navajo went by.
The Red Nation article Considering a Navajo Name Change: Self Identification, Land, and Liberation
by Majerle Lister states that Navajo is not a Diné word or concept, despite its use as our [the Diné]
official name for more than a hundred and fifty years. This is a clear example of how settler
colonialism has impacted the Navajo Nation. Settler colonialism has had an impact in the Peoplehood
matrix of the Navajo from language and sacred history to place/territory and ceremonial cycles, yet it
has not stop efforts from the Navajo Community to mend the damage that settler colonialism has had
on their culture over the years. Let s start with the language portion of the Peoplehood matrix and the
affects that settler colonialism has had on Navajo. In Peoplehood, it is stated that the language portion
of the Peoplehood matrix is a group particular language, by way of its nuances, references, and
grammar, gives a sacred history a meaning of its own, particularly if origin, creation, migration, and
other stories are spoken rather than written (Holm, et al. pg. 13). Especially in the late nineteenth
century, Navajo children like many other indigenous children were sent to boarding schools. Settler
colonialism resulted in a need to as Native Words Native Warriors puts it eliminate traditional
American Indian ways of life and replace them with mainstream American culture.
