Analysis Of Seaworld And San Diego
Summary SeaWorld in San Diego, California recently announced its facility has plans to phase out its killer whale shows. This
decision is what PETA and other oppositions of SeaWorld has been seeking, but there is no news of ending these shows at their
Orlando and San Antonio locations. There is Federal legislation in the works to ban orca breeding, importing and exporting
them for public display. This legislation is called the Orca Act and is still in its early stages of proposal. Passing of the Orca
Act would most likely be the only way Orlando would stop its killer whale shows.
Stakeholders
Shareholders: SeaWorld s shareholders have seen a steady decline in revenues over the past couple years, mainly because of
the controversy associated with their killer whales shows. Not continuing these steps in Orlando or San Antonio, will continue
to decrease revenue.
Killer Whales: It is not natural for killer whales to perform shows and interact with humans. Stopping these shows in San
Diego will allow them to live more relaxed and more natural.
PETA: This is a small victory for PETA in its efforts against SeaWorld. With this decision, PETA will continue to push
SeaWorld for more animal rights and stoppage of using animals for entertainment.
Employees: Jobs within the San Diego facility with be shifted or cut. The need for animal trainers and performers will be cut.
The face of the company employees at SeaWorld also get asked the most questions and sometimes

Betrayal In Mean Girls And The Play Julius Caesar
Lying and betrayal tie together the movie Mean Girls and the play Julius Caesar. In the movie, Cady lied to her friend, Regina
George, and betrayed her by sabotaging important things in her life, such as her boyfriend, her body, and her friends. In the
play, Brutus lied to and betrayed his best friend Caesar. Brutus stabbed Caesar and killed him for Rome. The movie Mean
Girls and the play Julius Caesar are tied together by many differences, similarities, and important lessons.
One important difference found between the play and the movie is the time period. Caesar is the leader of Rome with a group
of senators that are his servants while Regina is the leader of the high school Plastics which is a group of three girls: Regina,
Gretchen, and Karen. Everybody in the high school loves and knows everything about the Plastics and the girls look up to
them. Caesar gets killed by Brutus for the sake of the people of Rome and Regina s life gets ruined for the sake of high school
students, for revenge from Janis Ian, and so Cady can steal her boyfriend, Aaron ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Jealousy took a role in the play when Cassius was explaining to Brutus how, in Cassius s opinion, Caesar is not better than
everybody. He gave examples on the time Caesar was swimming in a lake with Cassius and nearly drowned, getting saved by
Cassius. Cassius encouraged Brutus to kill Caesar because he thought Brutus was just as good, if not better, than Caesar.. The
ending of Julius Caesar is important because it shows that not everything results in how people always want it to. Brutus and
Cassius both commit suicide in the end of the play. The importance in the end of the play is the ending isn t always how you
want it to be. Before Cassius and Brutus split up, Brutus was explaining to Cassius that he would never kill himself. In the end,
Brutus killed himself because he didn t want to continue without his best friend,

Analysis Of The Lesson The Ring Of Recollection Essay

Purity and will to live
In Critical Intervention No.2, to response the lesson The Ring of Recollection: and ancient indian aesthetic theory through
Sanskrit drama that taught by Ms Ranjana Thapayal, and her paper Sringara rasa( 1 ). I found the interest in the concept of Vak
in the paper. According to the paper, Vak is considered one of the female entity of Saraswati. Vak is disembodied , She is
speech, or the essence of sound the fundamental creative impulse ( 2 ). Her entity is purely abstract.
I was inspired by abstract art when I was undergraduate student and it triggered to make abstract style art. Since then, I have
focused and kept thinking about what is abstraction, or purity in fine art more than 10 years. During this time, couple of arts
have touched my chord; Western classical music and Japanese tea ceremony. Several years later, I gradually hypothesise this

have developed this idea dramatically and now, I am planning research this hypothesis in academically.
The ancient myth, no matter west or east and south or north, often depicts very important principal concept for the art, culture,
thought, identity, philosophy and so on. Therefore, through the concept of Vak, to reconsider main argument will be beneficial

Peekay s Camouflage In The Great Gatsby
Peekay s camouflage is a symbol of growth that diminishes as he begins to grow and accept himself. When he starts at the
boarding school, Peekay s camouflage grows very extreme. He is learning that the more he stands out, the more harm will
come to him. After he returns to the school, Peekay realizes he has forgotten an essential rule to surviving. The holidays had
blunted my sense of survival: adapt, blend, become part of the landscape, develop a camouflage, be a rock or a leaf or a stick
insect, try in every way to be an Afrikaner (Courtenay 23). This quote puts the reader in Peekay s shoes and helps them realize
how much he yearns to be like the other boys. During his time at boarding school, things may be looking pretty poor for

The Importance Of Securing Data On A Computer Device
Security is a broad term covering many aspects of the computer technology industry.
The importance of securing data on a computer device issued to an employee within a corporation is of the utmost importance
to ensuring data integrity. The data held on computer devices is the lifeblood of the corporation. If the data on these computers
is unsecured, the success of the corporation is at risk. In order to protect the data held on computer devices within a
corporation, a security suite of applications protects against and acts upon viruses, malware, and other malicious attacks.
Corporations may also adopt a standard operating system security patching cycle to ensure the security of the operating system
code. The focus of this exercise is the Intel (McAfee) Suite of tools and the Windows 7 Enterprise operating system.
According to the Gartner Group, Intel (McAfee) is one of the leading vendors offering endpoint protection platforms (EPP)
solutions. What is an EPP? The enterprise endpoint protection platform (EPP) is an integrated solution that emerged in the
2006 time frame composed of previously separate capabilities. These include Anti malware, Personal firewalls,
Host based intrusion prevention, and Port and device control. (Firstbrook et al.). The following tables shows the Gartner
Magic Quadrant for Endpoint Protection Platforms. The Magic
Quadrant for Intel (McAfee) shows that the company resides in the Leaders quadrant.

Rhetorical Devices In The White Heron
Rhetorical Analysis of the White Heron Sarah Orne Jewett is my most favorite American author uses regional details to make
the events and themes of a narrative come to live for readers. The White Heron , written by Sarah Orne Jewett, is best known
for depicting of a relationship, self discovery and loyalty with a wonderful setting of a rural in Maine. It explores this meaning
by describing a little girl s compassion for a white heron. It tells in sequence an encounter between her and a bird hunter. She
had to pick a side to be her friend between the bird and the hunter. At the end, she refused to betray the heron, so humanity was
served. The lead in event in The White Heron takes place in the woods in Maine at 8 o clock in the evening. When I think of
the particular examples evoke visualization of the place, the leading of the story becomes very poetic and the author
practically brings the story of a little maid comes alive. For example, the first prose states indirectly about a little girl, who was
driving home her cow deep into the woods in the sunset. Second, the sentences, [The tree] must truly have been amazed that
morning; the old pine must have loved his new dependent, mean that the woods love her; in addition, the author uses
contradictory to describe Sylvia. I can conclude that Sylvia s spirit is stronger than her small body ... Show more content on

The story has a deeper meaning through, expressed in the involvement of much symbolic representation. The author paints a
vivid and descriptive image of the young heroine and her surroundings in the story. In addition, the author describes the idea of
self discovery how Sylvia flourishes in the wilderness in the quote, She was just thinking how long it seemed since she first
came to the farm a year ago. Through her refusal to reveal the heron s location, we learn that some things in life are more

ABSTRACT
The observed reaction that took place in this experiment was the de esterification of ethyl benzoate to form benzoic acid. This
experiment was used to determine the rate constant k of the synthesis of benzoic acid at different temperatures and ethanol
concentrations. The reaction was carried out in a batch reactor, where ethyl benzoate was added to a mixture of water, ethanol,

Suspense In Tim Burton s Sleepy Hollow
Sleepy Hollow, directed by Tim Burton, is a thrilling horror film which tells the story of a bewitched town called Sleepy
Hollow. Set in 1799, Constable Ichabod Crane is requested to venture to Sleepy Hollow in order to solve the mysterious
murders of two decapitated victims. Upon his arrival, he is told about the belief of the evil spirit of the Hessian Headless
Horseman. At first, Crane does not believe this rumour and is very stubborn that the culprit is of flesh and blood. However,
through his investigations and ventures he finds that the culprit is a spirit of the underworld, who is being controlled by a
living person. Two scenes from the film and various cinematic techniques will be used to demonstrate specific aspects of the
film such ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Such films include Dracula and Frankenstein, where the monster falls in love with an innocent woman in a dark world. The
film Sleepy Hollow is classified as a part of this genre. Through the use of cinematic techniques, Burton has created a gothic
horror film which can commonly be seen in the Tree of the Dead scene. Through this scene, Burton has heavily used dark
lighting to influence the theme gothic horror as the darkness creates a gothic and dark sense of feeling. The use of this
darkness surrounding the Tree of the Dead incorporates the feeling of a gothic theme as the setting is dark and gloomy, which
falls under the gothic horror genre. Another aspect which interprets the film as a part of the gothic horror genre is the use of
setting. The settings in this film are always gloomy and sad representing the theme of gothic horror. Using the town of Sleepy
Hollow for example, the town is always seen as a sad and gloomy town as the shade and colour of the town is often a darker
shade. Music is another effective technique used to display the gothic horror genre in this film as it is always played in a low
manner, usually consisting of a base and violins. It creates the dark and gloomy sense of feeling which is common in gothic
horror films. The dark and deep music allows the sense of gothic horror to be created as it is a gloomy and dark genre, which

King Leopold II Of Belgium
Characterized by ambition and restlessness from an early age, King Leopold II of Belgium utilized his desire to make a name
for himself, while increasing his personal wealth and power, and deftly harnessed subterfuge in order to convince the Belgian
government that his interests in Africa were philanthropic, all the while exploiting and deceiving the native peoples of the
Congo. However, it was this same relentless ambition which would eventually lead to Leopold s being forced to sell his
colonial holdings, as the moral limits of the observers and of participants in the king s imperial system were pushed to their
breaking points.
King Leopold II began his career on the world stage as a young individual leading an almost equally young nation. Much of
his life was devoid of genuine human connections and emotion, and he ruthlessly pursued power and profits, likely in an
attempt to fill this void. He went about this pursuit by modeling the nation which he so admired, Great Britain. He was
entranced by its methods of imperialism, and he came to the conclusion, after investigating a multitude of other options, that
Africa offered the most opportunities for his individual profit, as the majority of the wild lands on other continents had already
been colonized by more influential European powers.
After he came into power, Leopold broached the topic of a Belgium controlled colony in a much different manner than he had
while his father was still king. Previously, Leopold was

Bruno Bettelheim and Psychosocial Development
Bruno Bettelheim and Psychosocial Development The psychological aspect of the human mind is one of the most mysterious
and unpredictable entities known to man. Bruno Bettelheim is an Austrian born American child psychologist and writer that
gained international recognition for his blatant views on the psychological development of children. Bettelheim firmly
believed that fairy tales contributed to the molding of a child s unconscious and conscious mind, and the child s entire psych as
a whole. Furthermore, Bettelheim also believed that fairy tales helped a child in his search for an identity and for a meaning in
life. As a child psychologist that dealt with troubled children everyday, Bettelheim cared greatly about children and sought to

Bettelheim sought help society and to educate others in order to prevent other children and future patients from such a burden.
Bettelheim believed that fairy tales must be left for a child s own interpretation in order for them to apply these tales to their
own life as they begin to understand their conscious and unconscious selves. Bettelheim states that the vagueness of the tales
[is] pedagogically suited to these tasks in that it engages the child s imagination to fill in the details and invest his interests on
whatever level he finds himself (Heisig). The tales commonly deal with universal problems that everyone faces, and children
are able to easily apply these universal problems and messages to their own lives. Children comprehend that although the tales
are untrue, they are not unreal, so they apply these tales to their own beings (Heisig). Furthermore, the fairy tales engages a
child s imagination, and this allows him to sort out his conscious and unconscious self. A child must overcome the
psychological problems of growing up by coping with his unconscious self, and fairy tales allows children to familiarize
themselves with their unconscious mind by fitting unconscious content into conscious fantasies, enabling him to cope with that
content (Tatar 270). In the process of relieving his conscious and unconscious pressures, children must work through these
psychological problems by themselves, and in

The Gi Bill And How It Effected Student Equity
Introduction Prior to this assignment student veterans were a portion of the student population that I had no prior experience or
knowledge of interacting with outside the scope of my history of higher education course reviewing the components of the GI
Bill. The assignment allowed me to get an in depth historical analysis of the GI Bill and how it effected student equity in
higher education from its establishment. I have come to understand the services students veterans possess but as well as some
of the limitations they face being advocates for themselves in order to receive their benefits. In revolving around the topic of
student equity, my team s research found a wealth of knowledge from higher education scholars who see the need of the GI
Bill in further providing student equity to student veterans. Scholars saw the important qualities that the GI Bill possess and
advocated for further services in assisting student veterans and their families in not only understanding their medical benefits
but also create a supportive community on campus. The overall goal of researching the GI Bill and by doing so includes
student veterans is that the bill provides equitable support to returning students that have served, support for dependents of
those who serve(d), and the growing student population student veterans are becoming through the new GI Bill. Historical

The Role Of Male And Female Roles In Society
In general, the male and female roles in society at that time were very different. Ultimately, the males were the ones with the
most power. Thus, they seemed to think they knew what is best for the lady s. Still, she is suffering from depression and went
to two different doctors. My brother is also a physician, and also of high standing, and he says the same thing (). John is a
highly looked upon physician, he tries to make life choices for her that he knows what is best for her, but does he really?
Power was everything to men it made them who they were. Therefore, if they didn t have power, they were viewed as weak
and unsuccessful in life.
In addition, the female role was very different from the male role. Moreover, women were seen as very dependent on the male.
The male made the choices and the female did whatever they are told. Therefore, they were more likely to stay at home and
tend to house work while their husband was away at work. Sadly, they didn t seem to get much of a social life. Ultimately, if
they wanted to go somewhere they had to ask permission of the man, but if the man was not around they would do what they
wanted to. Ironically, the women would tend to hide things from the men because they would disapprove of their choices.
Unfortunately, it was a period of time in which women didn t have much power and were forced to live under a rock.
Furthermore, the men wanted them to be blind to the truth, so they couldn t over power them.
In addition, the

The Concept Of Fair Trade
In this essay, I will discuss the concept of Fair Trade, and what it means in regards to globalization. More specifically, in this
essay I will attempt to explore the potential of this theory, in regards to how it addresses the exploitations and inequalities
created by the current system as addressed by certain authors. I also look to see if the concept of Fair Trade conforms to the
ideology of modernization as some scholars seem to believe. Finally, I look into the application of this theory in the real world,
and see if it reaches the potential that many believe it is capable of. In order to discuss Fair Trade, one must first know what it
is. In 2001, the FINE Consensus (the initials of the FLO, the IFAT, NEWS!, and the EFTA) defined Free Trade as, ..[A] trading
partnership, based on dialogue, transparency and respect, which seeks greater equity in international trade. (FINE Consensus
2001) What stunned me is the fact that this is considered a revolutionary idea. Instead, the narrative now is much closer to the
idea of neo liberalism. Neo liberals draw their beliefs from many classical economic thinkers, such as Adam Smith. What
Smith believed was best for the market was for there to be very little interference by the government, and to allow the invisible
hand of the individual consumer determine the outcome. John Bishop states the argument as such: The invisible hand of the
market will transform the individual s pursuit of gain into the general utility of society.

had determined to make an end of all flesh [as well as] destroy ... the land ... by [bringing] a flood of waters upon the earth

Critical or Transitional Temperature
BASIC CONCEPT
Critical temperature: The temperature at which the resistance of a material suddenly drops to zero is termed as critical or
transition temperature.
Superconductors: The phenomenon of disappearance of electrical resistance below a certain temperature is termed as
superconductivity and the material in this state is termed as superconductor.
The resistance of a metal decreases with decrease in temperature and reaches a certain minimum value but the process of
cooling down a material in order to convert into a superconductor is very costly and hence a lot of research was undertaken for
this purpose. They have zero resistance and perfect diamagnetism. https://encrypted tbn0.gstatic.com/images?

Meissner effect: When a superconductor is cooled below critical temperature in an external magnetic field then the lines of
induction at transition are pushed out of the material and this phenomenon is termed as Meissner effect.
Application of strong magnetic fled results in breakdown of the superconductor and loses its superconducting properties.
Based on the breakdown superconductors are of two types, they are:
Type 1: Superconductivity is destroyed with the application of magnetic field greater than a certain value, Hc1. .
Type 2: Superconductivity of the material reaches a mixed state with the application of magnetic field greater than a certain
value, Hc1. where the magnetic field can penetrate the

Pros And Cons Of The Ban On Tobacco Advertising
Ban on Tobacco Ads by the Government of India
Tobacco advertising refers to promotion display of tobacco products in media such as; radio, television, print, billboards and at
retail stores. The ban on tobacco advertising by the Indian Government has many effects on the people as well as their ethics
and freedom of choice. This paper will provide a summary argument in favour of the ban as well as opposing the ban. And to
conclude with my opinions on what the government should do with tobacco advertising.
Summarize the arguments in favour of the ban on tobacco advertising in India
Smoking kills! According to the World Health Organization (WHO), tobacco industry is the only industry that kills around 5
million of its customers every year, additionally 600,000 people dies due to exposure to second hand smoke (WHO, 2016).

the right to make choices for their own life, by preventing them this choice is against the meaning of freedom and democratic

Tobacco advertising was merely used to influence existing smokers to switch brands and to create brand loyalty and does not
encourage new smokers (Hammond Rowell, 2001). Banning of tobacco advertising in India will only hurt India tobacco
industry. Tobacco advertising will continue to exist in international event like Formula One (F1) and are broadcasted globally.

Testing Is A Waste Of Class Time
Does ISTEP plus benefit the students of 9th and 10th grade? Or is it just another test that we as a whole have to waste time on?
The expansion of ISTEP to the 9th and 10th grade is inconsequential. It gives us more tests to anguish about, stressing
everyone out including classmates, teachers, parents, and ourselves. Spending 10 hours on testing is a waste of class time
when we need to be learning, and actually worrying about our class work, instead of taking a test. ISTEP plus is not the best
option for our schools, its wasting time for our class work, making our lives stressful, and spending money on a test that half

(Claire). That s great of them to help the teachers and the school s reputation as a whole, but they re forgetting the biggest part
of this, the students.
The time span that this test takes up is ridiculous, not only do we have to make up the things we missed in class for this test,
but also we also have to stress about this for a month before it comes up, and also worry about classwork we missed, and
whether or not we passed it. Life its self is stressful, and they put this test on us at the last moment. Freshmen and sophomores
didn t know this was coming in time. 31 million dollars goes to this test, which money can go to something way more
important than a test. Save animals from poachers, or save starving children, and you don t even have to go that far. Indiana
needs some work for the hungry, the roads, helping women that are pregnant all the way to an orphan. This test is not worth 31
million dollars, or even 1 hour of time. These students aren t stupid, they know these things, its just these students do not want
to take this test. It s a pass or fail, if you don t pass it you won t graduate high school, or if you re in middle school it can cause
you to get held back. This test is

Descartes s Meditations On First Philosophy
We Think, Therefore We Are Throughout history man has always wanted to understand themselves, and to understand others.
Humans have this innate wondering, this curiosity, as to what makes us who we are. What is it inside of us that allows us to
exist? Sometimes the answer is as simple as looking inwards, or as René Descartes would call it, meditation. These
meditations are moments of reflection, time spent with one s thoughts, and time to figure out where one is placed within the
world. During one of these meditations, Descartes creates the phrase, cogito ergo sum , I think, therefore I am, in his
monumental book, Principles of Philosophy, though it was written in another form earlier, ego sum, ego existo , I am, I exist,
in his book Meditations on First Philosophy. This phrase, put so eloquently, means that because Descartes is able to think,
because he is able to ponder his own existence, he therefore, exists. Descartes is correct in saying that his self exists because
he can think, and ponder his existence. Descartes use of, cogito ergo sum addresses the issue of doubt in the world, and how to
deal with our own existence because of this. We, as humans, have an underlying desire to understand reality, and to know what

George Gershwin Essay
George Gershwin was born Jacob Gershowitz on September 26, 1898 in Brooklyn, New York. George began his professional
career in quot;Tin Pan Alley, quot; a location in New York City where aspiring composers and songwriters would bring their
scores to a publisher trying to sell the tunes for cash.
Two years after he started work for Jerome Remick, George had his first song published. quot; When You Want Em You Can t
Get Em quot; was not an instantly famous, but it did begin to attract the attention of some of the Broadway composers of the
day. During this time of professional growth, George kept his job as a rehearsal pianist and studied piano, theory and
orchestration with the best of the best. George s first big hit was a song ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Songs featured from these musicals include quot;Clap Yo Hands, quot; quot;Strike Up the Band quot; and one which has
enjoyed a recent resurgence in popularity, quot;Someone to Watch Over Me. quot;
Despite his success on Broadway, George decided to follow his success of Rhapsody in Blue with a few more pieces for piano
and orchestra as well as piano solo, including Concerto in F (1925), Preludes for Piano (1926), and An American in Paris
(1928). An American in Paris, which was written after George took a trip to the French city, is a tone poem, which transports
the listener to the streets of Paris during the 1920 s. In efforts to paint a realistic portrait of the quot;City of Lights. quot; An
American in Paris represents the second most popular work for orchestra written by George. George became one of America s
first premier composers and his compositions are still used today by teachers everywhere as examples of the American
entrance to the musical world of Stravinsky, Chopin, Beethoven, and Mozart.
When George started to forget portions of his compositions while performing them, his friends and family encouraged him to
see a physician. Doctors informed him that he had a brain tumor and suggested emergency surgery. Unfortunately, George did
not survive the surgery and died on July 11, 1937

Racism In Pecola Breedlove s The Bluest Eye
A common thought process that most people have been experiencing within the past decade is the idea that racism is an
occurrence of the past. This couldn t be further from the truth. Overall violent crime has been declining since 2005, but the
percentage of violent crime victims amongst the African American population hasn t exactly followed this pattern. The
percentage of violent crime victims in this demographic fell from 1.7 to 1.3 percent from 2005 to 2013, but from 2013 to 2014
rose from 1.3 to 1.4 percent (US D.O.J, 6). Because of this slight increase in violent crimes against African Americans, it is
still important for us teachers to educate the younger generation about the disparity our society has established between the

Other books on the topic give us an important but at the same time an all too common view of this subject. Digging into the
novel we see a continuing theme where black characters are being put down by white society throughout the book, and there
are even instances where members of the minority put each other down. This vicious cycle is a form of learned submission that
Morrison s characters decided to accept as a given way of life. An example of this submission occurs when Morrison is giving
us a coherent description of the Breedlove family for the first time in the novel and we are blatantly told that they are ugly.
Despite the fact that Morrison makes it extremely clear that the Breedloves are ugly, she begins to make contradictions when
she states that you [could] look closely and not [be able to] find the source (Morrison, 39) of their ugliness. Morrison is trying
to point out the confusing rules that society s beauty standards are based upon. She starts to become more coherent when she
explicitly points out that some mysterious all knowing master [gave] each one a cloak of ugliness, and they accepted it without
question (Morrison, 39). This omniscient overlord that Morrison speaks of is the power structure established by the beauty
standards which we continually agree to uphold because of the silent contract in our heads that is remnant from our ancestor s
transgressions against the Black community. Education is the only means of taking this contract and ripping it in two;

Internally African, Indian and European settler interests were also at variance. More often than not European settlers had the
ear of pro settler governors. Moreover, in the interest of capital these policies were anchored on partial dissolution and
restructuring of pre colonial structures. It was also in the interest of capital to place the market under the colonial state s
control. This was done with greater enthusiasm during the post Second World War period more popularly known as the second
colonial occupation. Colonial commodity production, because of inappropriate practice, led to widespread environmental
degradation. Forest concessions, which were granted to individuals and companies led to massive deforestation. Colonial
enterprises destroyed local industries. Generally the colonial economic policies in Kenya were instrumental in incorporating
the pre capitalist communities into the colonial and international economic systems. This persisted into the post colonial
period. Similarly, Christian missionary activities destroyed African culture through the gospels of salvation, obedience and
work. Through Western education, which they dominated despite the colonial state s role, Christian missions preached against
African cultures. They were emphatic that the Africans salvation must be gauged on the extent to which traditional cultural
practices were abandoned. Their invocations about obeying the government because it is God who

There are many different kinds of technologies that are available for the world to use today. We have the convenience of all
different types data input and output devices and the means to store and make available at lightning fast speeds. Some of the
input devices that we use every day are essential in different kinds situations and projects everyday. We also use many
different types of output devices to view our finished product. The input devices that we use are keyboards, scanners, a mouse,

our lives a lot easier when it comes to massive inputting and accuracy of the inputs themselves. We have talked a lot about
inputting devices, now we ll talk about output devices and the quality of these outputs. When we want to see something, we
want to see, or hear, or even feel the best that we possibly can. There are many ways to do this, but there are better ways than

The Applicant Pool Increased At 57 % Of Business Schools...
In 2015, the applicant pool increased at 57% of business schools worldwide (Gellman). Today, a Masters of Business
Administration defines a businessperson and unlocks the doors to the financial world. Modern business hinges on education,
but when formal schooling was not widely available, artists considered other factors integral to a flourishing businessman and
financial success. Authors, playwrights, and filmmakers recognized the value of formal education, but imagined experience,
social dexterity, and observation as the bedrock of economic prosperity.
If You Know Not Me You Know Nobody, Roxana, and Working Girl depict a menagerie of educational backgrounds. Although
she is literate and skilled in conversation, Roxana has received no formal education in business. In Post Renaissance England,
Thomas Gresham would most likely have attended only grammar school and apprenticed with a businessman. By far, the
characters in Working Girl are the most formally schooled. Tess graduated from business school with honors, and Jack Trainor
received Ivy League degrees. Despite varying levels of knowledge and education, these characters are economically
successful, suggesting that financial security comes from other dimensions of human knowledge.
Through Thomas Gresham and Hobson, Thomas Heywood argues that fiscal education is based on observation, experience,
and the ability to assimilate economic innovation with traditional power structures. Walking through Dr. Nowell s gallery,

A Master Of The Rubik s Cube
If you or I were to choose a random toy, from a random child s toy collection, it is more likely that a Rubik s Cube would be
chosen than any other toy. In other words, the Hungarian originated cube is the best selling toy in history ( The History of the
Rubik s Cube. ), so the actuality that I became infatuated with the gadget was somewhat likely. In what I believed at this stage
in my life to be the most prestigious honor possible, I set out to become a master of the Rubik s cube. My goal, as well as the
toy itself, would have never had been possible if it were not for a man named Ernő Rubik. The Rubik s Cube credited inventor
was born in 1944, in Budapest, Hungary. Rubik attended the Budapest University of Technology and Economics, and studied
to become an educator, and also studied architecture. It is noted that Rubik was always looking for new, more exciting ways to
present information. It was 30 years after his birth that he began experimenting with this goal and accidentally created the
impossible; a solid cube (originally made of wood!) that would not fall apart if twisted or turned. Rubik added colorful
stickers. It took him well over a month to generate a solution that would solve the puzzle every time, and less than a year later,
he patented the cube, and gave it its original name, the Magic Cube . Fast forward twenty four months later, and the toy was
first sold in a Budapest toyshop. ( The History of the Rubik s Cube. ) The cube caught the eye of Tom Kremer.

Analysis of Critical Essays on Benito Cereno
It is possible to divide the critics into two camps regarding Herman Melville s purpose in writing Benito Cereno. Joseph
Schiffman, Joyce Adler, and Sidney Kaplan all argue that Melville wrote the story to make a comment on slavery. On the other
hand, Sandra Zagarell and Allan Emery contend that Melville goes beyond slavery and is pointing out other flaws in mid
Nineteenth century American notion.
Benito Cereno tells the story of a slave revolt on a ship at sea. Schiffman, Adler, and Kaplan argue that Melville wrote the
story as a comment on slavery. Schiffman and Adler contend that Melville s novella is a clear indictment of slavery. Kaplan

He argues that Melville wrote a moral tale, not an abolitionist story. At the end of the essay, Schiffman contradicts himself by
proclaiming that Babo s head being unabashed as Benito Cereno, the slave trader, follow[s] his leader is an indictment of
slavery.
Benito Cereno : Slavery and Violence in the Americas is Joyce Adler s analysis of
Melville s story. While agreeing with Schiffman that Melville wrote an anti slavery book, she
goes beyond her predecessor by claiming that Melville intended to show intricacies of the
master/slave relationship and the violence that slavery breeds. Adler argues that the master
and slave are inseparable, irreconcilable, and interchangeable (82). She points out that Babo
frees himself and subsequently enslaves his former master, Don Benito. She says that
Delano s statement, Ah, this slavery breeds ugly passions in man, is Melville s indictment
of the practice (86). Adler does not accept Schiffman s color analysis. She contends that black
and white are merely opposites and have no significance other than their relative positions in
the master/slave relationship. She also places the story in a much broader historical context.
She concludes that Benito Cereno is Melville s attempt to warn the United States of its
critical flaw: slavery. To this end, Adler includes exhaustive evidence that Melville linked
Spain and the United States in the characters of

Alfred Hitchcock s Vertigo
Often times, throughout many of Alfred Hitchcock films, I find myself very intrigued to the development of how the story
unfolds. The difference between Vertigo (1958) and the other films that we have watched, is that this film has more
unanswered questions and a darker meaning. Personally, I did not really like how the story of Vertigo was filmed. And of
course this is just my own opinion, which can be argued based on your own experience with the film. For instance, throughout
the majority of the film, all we see is John Scottie Ferguson (James Stewart), follow Madeleine Elster (Kim Novak) all around
the San Francisco area. For me this repetitive act of scenes caused me to unconsciously drift away. Although, I did enjoy the

Some of the major forms of experimentation that I noticed throughout the film was in the lighting, camera shots, and
movement. A perfect example where Hitchcock experimented with cinematography of lighting within a scene was inside the
Empire hotel. Hitchcock really played a lot with the colors of the neon light coming into Judy Barton s (Kim Novak) hotel
room. A more specific scene of his intense use of lighting was when Scottie transforms Judy into Madeleine. In fact, Alfred
Hitchcock, really felt that the lighting was very important aspect that helped shape the meaning of the scene. According to
Vertigo s screenwriter, Samuel Taylor, he mentioned that Hitchcock never really liked to see the story in a full view. Instead
Hitchcock was more focused on viewing each scene like a mosaic. In order to view the full story, he believed he had to first
complete each part of the mosaic. Hitchcock creates each scene as a form of artwork. As seen in several scenes throughout
Vertigo, we clearly see how he creates scenes by focusing on every aspect of cinematography to tell a deeper sinister narrative
through each characters. An exaggerated and personally one of my favorite scenes within Vertigo s cinematography was based
on the lighting and special effects used in Scotty s nightmare scene. I can imagine how

The Vietnam War Of The Cold War
The Vietnam war started as a U.S. strategy of authority in times of the cold war, which was directed to prevent the
advancement of communism in the world. The War had begun in 1954, after the rise of power with Ho Chi Minh and his
communist Viet Minh party in North Vietnam, and continued against the backdrop of an intense Cold War against the United
States and the Soviet Union. More than 3 million people were killed, including 58,000 Americans. In 1975, communist forces
took control of Saigon, ending the Vietnam War, and the Country was combined as the Socialist Republican of Vietnam the
following year. The Vietnamese wanted the desire to have a national government that was truly independent. While the
Americans were afraid of communist expansion. Ho Chi Minh who had led a party about communism had great power and
because of that Americans were scared that he would spread Communism throughout the world. To prevent from communism
affecting the world using the Domino Theory, so America went to War. The Involvement of United States affected the Vietnam

which all property is publicly owned and each person works and is paid according to their abilities and needs. In Vietnam

one, Ross and Rachel have been referred to as the power couple, the glue that holds everyone together, and according to
television critics as CBS they are, probably the most iconic TV couple in recent memory ( The Best TV 3). This being said, the

audience wants from a relationship. According to award winning, New York Times bestselling author Virginia Kantra,
audiences want relationships to have, physical attraction, emotional conflict, and scenes that foster emotional intimacy (Kantra

Rachel since grade school, but Rachel also sitcoms her attraction to Ross with various flirtatious acts. Even though Ross and
Rachel seem to be the perfect couple, they have had their fair share of emotional conflict. The well known we were on a break
fight causes comical scenes between the two. Rachel will always make it clear that Ross cheated on her, but Ross claims that
they were on a break. The couple has an on and off relationship throughout the sitcom because of these many conflicts. When

Taking a Look at Civil Engineers
The job of a civil engineer is to fix, or build many of our modern conveniences including bridges. Skill in math (specifically
measurement and angles) is required for the most part. It is a risky job though because if you design something wrong, you
will pay big. Civil engineers are a soul of a cities construction.
Civil Engineers have many job duties because many workers depend on them. Civil engineers have a lot of variables in their
building including construction cost, and government regulations. They also preform many tests to determine how they will
build on the area, and what the structure is built with ( Civil Engineers. Career). The job requires provide or present findings,
cost estimates, and submit permits or applications. They manage many workers including Civil engineering technicians,
architects, and construction workers ( Civil Engineers. U.S.). Civil engineers have very important job duties because if their
structures fail that will not be good for them.
The work environments of a civil engineer can vary widely. Civil engineers Most of the time work near major cities, but
sometimes they work in remote or foreign areas. Offices, labs, factories and the actual sites are work environments of many
civil engineers. In offices they typically develop plans for a survey. If the Civil engineers visit the site of the job they usually
take photos and measurements there ( Civil Engineers Encyclopedia 529). Civil engineers stay indoors mostly at their offices (

The Advantages Of The Economic Definition Of Economic...
TFP is the essence of economic notion of productivity and is used as a measure of technical progress. It shows the efficiency
with which all inputs are used in a production function and is defined as the measure of increase in output not due to different
input choices but due to increase in marginal products of factors of production.
TFP= %∆ in total output α* %∆ in capital (1 α)* %∆ in labour engaged
Purpose:
TFP measurement helps unravel the direct growth contributions of labour, capital, intermediate inputs and technology. This is
an important tool for reviewing past growth patterns and for assessing the potential for future economic growth.
Advantages:
Total factor productivity tries to capture the efficiency with which inputs of capital as well as labour are used. If workers are
given better machines and equipment, this will automatically boost output per man hour, even if there is no gain in overall
economic efficiency once the extra capital spending is taken into account.
Investors should look at total factor productivity ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Amongst its functional form (the formula) this method holds a heavy advantage i.e., it does not need to refer to a particular
kind of production function. Thus it is not dependent on the unrealistic assumptions on which total factor productivity is based.
Furthermore, to quantify labour productivity one has not to rely on the distributive shares in output, which are strongly
influenced by market power, and such a measure of productivity encompasses all kinds of technical change embodied and
disembodied (Reatti, 2001). The relative influence of these two types of technical change can be measured separately by
splitting the formula of productivity of labour into its components − the degree of mechanisation (the capital/labour ratio), and
the productivity of

A Christmas Memory Short Story
Let us be grateful to people who make us happy, they are the charming gardeners who make our souls blossom, Marcel Proust
said. This quote suggests how being grateful for the people that you feel close to, will make you feel happier. A Christmas
Memory by Truman Capote takes place during the Great Depression in a small Southern town. A seven year old boy named
Buddy, and his friend are hit by the Great Depression. They do not have very many possessions, only basic necessities. The
holidays are right around the corner so Buddy and his friend decide to make fruit cakes for all of their friends, even though
they do not have much. They end up not having much money to get each other something for Christmas. In the end, they both
decide that having each other is enough, and that they re both very grateful for one other. One lesson that is taught in the story,
is that often, people tend to only be grateful for materialistic things. However, in this story they re grateful for one another.
Similarly, in the short story The Gift of the Magi by O. Henry expresses the same theme of gratefulness through the
development of the character traits and character conflicts. Both stories show that being grateful for the people that you feel
close to, will make you feel happier.
From the very beginning in both stories by Capote and Henry, gratefulness has been shown through description of both
characters, Buddy and Della. Buddy is grateful that him and his distant cousin have become best friends. We are cousins, very
distant ones, and we have lived together well, as long as I can remember. Other people inhabit the house, relatives; and though
they have power over us, and frequently make us cry, we are not, on the whole, too much aware of them. We are each other s
best friend. She calls me Buddy, in memory of a boy who was formerly her best friend (Capote). This line illustrates that
Buddy s distant cousin has taken care of him for as long as he can remember. Buddy is grateful that it has brought them close,
they re each other s best friends. Another example of gratefulness is shown through Dellas thoughts and feelings. She is
grateful for Jim, because she wanted to get him a nice Christmas present. As soon as she saw it, she knew

Prejudice In The 12 Angry Men
Prejudice is something that every one has experienced or seen in other people. In the film The 12 Angry Men, the 12 jurors are
ready to send a young man to the execution chair for the murder of his father. 11 of the twelve men vote that the boy is guilty
but juror number 8 votes not guilty. This man was able to see passed his prejudices while the other men are seemly blinded by
them. You can t dwell on what might have been... and it s not fair to condemn him for something he hasn t done. ( Wendelin
van Draanen) In the 1957 MGM film twelve angry men, the jurors reveal their prejudices through their beliefs, words and
attitude. A great example of how peoples beliefs can influence the way they think about other people. The juror number 11 sees
the young man as still a child and in the men s eyes all children are born as liars. They are incapable of telling the truth and
therefore the boy would have had to kill his father and didn t go to the movies that night during the murder like he said. This is
backed up by juror number 4 who says that the boy couldn t seem to remember the movie he saw or the actors that stared in
the film. If he couldn t remember that the movie then he must be lying about seeing the movie. But juror number 8 proves that
not everyone can remember every little fact about every movie. The boy had just gone to the movies and came back to find his

Racial Differences At A Young Age Essay
I became aware of my racial difference at a very young age. I do not remember this but my parents told me that I only wanted
black baby dolls when I was old enough to start talking and asking for things. I do remember wishing to be the black Barbie
doll. I would throw pennies into wishing wells and make wishes on shooting stars that I would wake up as the black Barbie. It
was then that I realized the difference of my white skin in comparison to my idol that had dark skin. I also went through a
stage before school started where I was obsessed with Asian culture. I only wore kimonos, wore eyeliner, slept on a futon,
pretended to know Chinese and had my whole room decorated in Asian décor. My uncle told me before I learned to actually
speak English and I was babbling that I would sound like I was speaking in Chinese and that we would sit and have Chinese
conversations. My mom was teaching at a title one elementary school and enrolled me in the head start next door. The majority
of the children that were enrolled were Hispanic. I went from head start to fifth grade with mostly Hispanic friends and culture
and I loved it. The town I went to school in had three elementary schools and one middle school and one high school. When I
started middle school I was separated from many of my Hispanic friends because they were in English as a second language

The internet. More bad than good
The early years of the 21st century have seen a blast in the Internet utilization. The fame of this worldwide arrangement of the
interconnected system continues developing continually from the day it showed up in human life. Clearly, with the all
inclusive access to data and an intelligent instrument to impart that Internet offers, it is no difficult to comprehend why
individuals all around the globe get dependent on it. Online business, E Business, and E Marketing are marvels that show up
as the consequence of the Internet. There is undoubtedly no uncertainty about the advantages given by the utilization of
Internet in everyday life. It is about the negative impacts of the Internet which is the issue, the absence of control over data
sources, security spilling or web fixation is said to come up in conversation as often as possible than any other time in recent
memory. Never in the past did the negative impacts of the Internet get as much as consideration in contrast with this century.
One of the most negative impacts of the internet is the absence of face to face communication. It sounds very ironic when the
absence of up close and personal correspondence is specified as one of the contrary impacts of the Internet because the
Internet should bring individuals nearer. The truth of the matter is that by one means or another many individuals think that it s

The Awakening by Kate Chopin Essay
The Awakening by Kate Chopin Kate Chopin is one of the first female writers to address female issues, primarily sexuality.
Chopin declares that women are capable of overt sexuality in which they explore and enjoy their sexuality. Chopin shows that
her women are capable of loving more than one man at a time. They are not only attractive but sexually attracted (Ziff 148).
Two of Chopin s stories that reflect this attitude of sexuality are The Awakening and one of her short stories The Storm .
Although critics now acclaim these two stories as great accomplishments, Chopin has been condemned during her life for
writing such vulgar and risqué pieces. In 1899 Chopin publishes The Awakening. She is censured for its positively unseemly ...

The first way in which Chopin is able to portray an awakening by Edna is through her relationship with her husband, Leonce.
Chopin describes Leonce as a likable guy. He is a successful businessman, popular with his friends, and devotes himself to
Edna and the children (Spangler 154). Although Edna s marriage to Leonce is purely and accident , he pleases her and his
absolute devotion flattered her (Chopin 506). However, it is clearly obvious to the reader the Leonce acts as the oppressor of
Edna (Allen 72). When the reader first sees them together, Leonce is looking at his wife as a valuable piece of personal
property which has suffered some damage (Chopin 494). The most important aspect to Leonce is making money and showing
off his wealth. He believes his wife s role to be caring for him and his children. Therefore, the first step toward her freedom is
to be free of his rule. Edna is able to accomplish this first by denying Leonce the submissiveness which he is accustomed to.
She does this by abandoning her Tuesday visitors, she makes no attempt to keep an organized household, and she comes and
goes as she pleases (Chopin 536). The next big step in gaining her freedom from her husband is when she moves into a house
of her own while Leonce is away taking of business. She does not even wait to see what his opinion of the matter is (Chopin
558). It is quite evident the only thing Leonce worries about is what people are going to

Colosse was a principle city the Lycus Valley. Being part of a major trade route in Asia Minor from Ephesus to Miletus, the
city was known for its production of textiles, especially in its purple wool. Larger cities such as Laodicea and Hierapolis, made
it a well populated and high business area in the Lycus Valley. With great changes in the road system Laodicea became a more
important trade city than Colosse. Once a great city by AD 61 Colosse suffered a great deal, an earthquake shook ... Show

He is also the Redeemer (1: 14), the one who contains all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge Colossians 2: 3. The purpose
in writing Colossians was to express Paul s personal interest in the Colossians to warn them against reverting to their old
pagan vices, and to counteract both the theological heresy and its practice within the church at Colosse. We live in a world
where religious confusion is ramped, just as it was in the days of the apostle Paul we are confronted with false teaching
without and within the church and as the early church rejected all forms of syncretism because they were convinced that Jesus
alone was God and the only way of salvation, this truth was firmly stressed. Thus, as with the early church, so the church must
not tolerate the syncretism of our day. We can tolerate genuine pluralism, the idea that the religions of the world can peacefully
co exist, but not syncretism, the idea that the beliefs of various religions can be combined. Our society wants a tolerance that
accepts all beliefs. Tolerance can be defined in two ways, legal tolerance is the right for everyone to believe in whatever faith
(or none at all) he wishes. This is important in our society, and we as Christians should maintain our conviction that no one
should ever be coerced into believing as we do. Another legal way of tolerance is social tolerance, a commitment to

Emmett Till Essay
Emmett till was a fourteen year old African American boy who lived in Chicago. He was a fairly normal kid who was down
visiting his family when he was brutally murdered for just flirting with a white girl. He was too young to understand what he
was doing. He was just doing it as a joke for his cousins, which he soon figured out was life threatening. This act of violence is
what started the Civil Rights Movement. So many people were heartbroken that a teenager was beat to death then shot in the
head. They protested, but there was nothing they could do.
Emmett till was born on July 25, 1941 in Chicago Illinois. He grew up in a middle class neighborhood and went to an all black
McCosh grammar school. At age five he was diagnosed with polio, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Once she got to see her boy and what they did to him she declared that his body would be on display at the Roberts Temple
Church of God. His casket was open for anyone to see for a period of about five days. Thousands of people gathered here to
witness what two southern men did to a fourteen year old who just flirted with a white waitress. Many were very angry that
this happened.
On September 19, 1955 Emmett s murder had became an outrage. Because blacks and women were not allowed to serve jury
duty, Bryant and Milam were judged in front of an all white male jury. At the end of the case the two white men were found
innocent. This really made a lot of chaos. To add to the madness, a couple months later they admitted the crime to Look
magazine for four thousand dollars. Emmett s story brought attention to the intense racism in Mississippi. His impact on black
america was even greater than that of the Brown decision. He prompted national outrage and sparked the Civil Rights
Movement . Just 100 days after Emmett s death, Rosa Parks decided not to give up her seat on the bus, which started the
Montgomery Bus Boycott. Emmett s death should be remembered by the Civil Rights Movement. He was a very inspirational
figure that let people know that people should be treated equally regardless to their

`` Atonement `` By Ian Mcewan
In today s society, people often times misinterpret things we hear or we tend to make assumptions about several things such as
who said what and worrying about whether or not it was true. It later becomes a major problem when these misperceptions get
out of hand and are used to penalize someone for something they really didn t do. These people often times can be kids. Teens
specifically tend to have open ears and observe everything. They crave gossip and secrets and they aren t able to contain
themselves and keep it to themselves. Obviously it is possible that they don t understand what they hear most times, but can
easily make it up or give false information. False accusations lead to difficult situations sometimes critical and can hurt ...

Furthermore, McEwan uses symbols alongside, motifs such as the Trials of Arabella in order to explain Briony s mindset as a
child. This suggest and supports the idea that Briony being young is unable to fully grasp and understand her surroundings.
To begin, in part one of Atonement we learn who each character is through the perspective of different characters. Alongside
we get the unique perspective of several scenes that take place. One very important scene is the fountain scene where Robbie
and Cecilia are filling a vase with water and Robbie causes the vase to slip out of Cecilia s hands breaks some pieces falling
into the fountain. Cecilia acts fast and removes her clothing in order to retrieve the vase piece. Meanwhile, you have Briony
wondering her room and happens to see the two conversing and is shocked to see Cecilia remove her clothes. Briony begins to
assume things instantly The Triton fountain, and standing by the basin s retaining wall was her sister, and right before her was
Robbie Turner. There was something rather formal about the way he stood, feet apart, head held back. A proposal of marriage.
Briony would not have been surprised. She herself had written a tale in which a humble woodcutter saved a princess from
drowning and ended by marrying her. What was presented here fitted well. Robbie Turner (36). Here Briony is only able to see
the interactions between Robbie and Cecilia but she can t necessarily hear anything but, it doesn t impede her

  • 2. Analysis Of Seaworld And San Diego Summary SeaWorld in San Diego, California recently announced its facility has plans to phase out its killer whale shows. This decision is what PETA and other oppositions of SeaWorld has been seeking, but there is no news of ending these shows at their Orlando and San Antonio locations. There is Federal legislation in the works to ban orca breeding, importing and exporting them for public display. This legislation is called the Orca Act and is still in its early stages of proposal. Passing of the Orca Act would most likely be the only way Orlando would stop its killer whale shows. Stakeholders Shareholders: SeaWorld s shareholders have seen a steady decline in revenues over the past couple years, mainly because of the controversy associated with their killer whales shows. Not continuing these steps in Orlando or San Antonio, will continue to decrease revenue. Killer Whales: It is not natural for killer whales to perform shows and interact with humans. Stopping these shows in San Diego will allow them to live more relaxed and more natural. PETA: This is a small victory for PETA in its efforts against SeaWorld. With this decision, PETA will continue to push SeaWorld for more animal rights and stoppage of using animals for entertainment. Employees: Jobs within the San Diego facility with be shifted or cut. The need for animal trainers and performers will be cut. The face of the company employees at SeaWorld also get asked the most questions and sometimes ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

When he starts at the boarding school, Peekay s camouflage grows very extreme. He is learning that the more he stands out, the more harm will come to him. After he returns to the school, Peekay realizes he has forgotten an essential rule to surviving. The holidays had blunted my sense of survival: adapt, blend, become part of the landscape, develop a camouflage, be a rock or a leaf or a stick insect, try in every way to be an Afrikaner (Courtenay 23). • 6. The Importance Of Securing Data On A Computer Device Security is a broad term covering many aspects of the computer technology industry. The importance of securing data on a computer device issued to an employee within a corporation is of the utmost importance to ensuring data integrity. The data held on computer devices is the lifeblood of the corporation. If the data on these computers is unsecured, the success of the corporation is at risk. In order to protect the data held on computer devices within a corporation, a security suite of applications protects against and acts upon viruses, malware, and other malicious attacks. Corporations may also adopt a standard operating system security patching cycle to ensure the security of the operating system code. The focus of this exercise is the Intel (McAfee) Suite of tools and the Windows 7 Enterprise operating system. According to the Gartner Group, Intel (McAfee) is one of the leading vendors offering endpoint protection platforms (EPP) solutions. What is an EPP? The enterprise endpoint protection platform (EPP) is an integrated solution that emerged in the 2006 time frame composed of previously separate capabilities. • 8. Rhetorical Devices In The White Heron Rhetorical Analysis of the White Heron Sarah Orne Jewett is my most favorite American author uses regional details to make the events and themes of a narrative come to live for readers. The White Heron , written by Sarah Orne Jewett, is best known for depicting of a relationship, self discovery and loyalty with a wonderful setting of a rural in Maine. It explores this meaning by describing a little girl s compassion for a white heron. It tells in sequence an encounter between her and a bird hunter. She had to pick a side to be her friend between the bird and the hunter. At the end, she refused to betray the heron, so humanity was served. The lead in event in The White Heron takes place in the woods in Maine at 8 o clock in the evening. When I think of the particular examples evoke visualization of the place, the leading of the story becomes very poetic and the author practically brings the story of a little maid comes alive. For example, the first prose states indirectly about a little girl, who was driving home her cow deep into the woods in the sunset. Second, the sentences, [The tree] must truly have been amazed that morning; the old pine must have loved his new dependent, mean that the woods love her; in addition, the author uses contradictory to describe Sylvia. Such films include Dracula and Frankenstein, where the monster falls in love with an innocent woman in a dark world. The film Sleepy Hollow is classified as a part of this genre. Through the use of cinematic techniques, Burton has created a gothic horror film which can commonly be seen in the Tree of the Dead scene. Through this scene, Burton has heavily used dark lighting to influence the theme gothic horror as the darkness creates a gothic and dark sense of feeling. The use of this darkness surrounding the Tree of the Dead incorporates the feeling of a gothic theme as the setting is dark and gloomy, which falls under the gothic horror genre. Another aspect which interprets the film as a part of the gothic horror genre is the use of setting. The settings in this film are always gloomy and sad representing the theme of gothic horror. Using the town of Sleepy Hollow for example, the town is always seen as a sad and gloomy town as the shade and colour of the town is often a darker shade. Music is another effective technique used to display the gothic horror genre in this film as it is always played in a low manner, usually consisting of a base and violins. It creates the dark and gloomy sense of feeling which is common in gothic horror films. • 11. King Leopold II Of Belgium Characterized by ambition and restlessness from an early age, King Leopold II of Belgium utilized his desire to make a name for himself, while increasing his personal wealth and power, and deftly harnessed subterfuge in order to convince the Belgian government that his interests in Africa were philanthropic, all the while exploiting and deceiving the native peoples of the Congo. However, it was this same relentless ambition which would eventually lead to Leopold s being forced to sell his colonial holdings, as the moral limits of the observers and of participants in the king s imperial system were pushed to their breaking points. King Leopold II began his career on the world stage as a young individual leading an almost equally young nation. Much of his life was devoid of genuine human connections and emotion, and he ruthlessly pursued power and profits, likely in an attempt to fill this void. He went about this pursuit by modeling the nation which he so admired, Great Britain. He was entranced by its methods of imperialism, and he came to the conclusion, after investigating a multitude of other options, that Africa offered the most opportunities for his individual profit, as the majority of the wild lands on other continents had already been colonized by more influential European powers. After he came into power, Leopold broached the topic of a Belgium controlled colony in a much different manner than he had while his father was still king. Previously, Leopold was ... Bruno Bettelheim is an Austrian born American child psychologist and writer that gained international recognition for his blatant views on the psychological development of children. Bettelheim firmly believed that fairy tales contributed to the molding of a child s unconscious and conscious mind, and the child s entire psych as a whole. Bettelheim believed that fairy tales must be left for a child s own interpretation in order for them to apply these tales to their own life as they begin to understand their conscious and unconscious selves. Bettelheim states that the vagueness of the tales [is] pedagogically suited to these tasks in that it engages the child s imagination to fill in the details and invest his interests on whatever level he finds himself (Heisig). The tales commonly deal with universal problems that everyone faces, and children are able to easily apply these universal problems and messages to their own lives. Children comprehend that although the tales are untrue, they are not unreal, so they apply these tales to their own beings (Heisig). Furthermore, the fairy tales engages a child s imagination, and this allows him to sort out his conscious and unconscious self. A child must overcome the psychological problems of growing up by coping with his unconscious self, and fairy tales allows children to familiarize themselves with their unconscious mind by fitting unconscious content into conscious fantasies, enabling him to cope with that content (Tatar 270). Moreover, women were seen as very dependent on the male. The male made the choices and the female did whatever they are told. Therefore, they were more likely to stay at home and tend to house work while their husband was away at work. Sadly, they didn t seem to get much of a social life. Ultimately, if they wanted to go somewhere they had to ask permission of the man, but if the man was not around they would do what they wanted to. Ironically, the women would tend to hide things from the men because they would disapprove of their choices. • 15. The Concept Of Fair Trade In this essay, I will discuss the concept of Fair Trade, and what it means in regards to globalization. More specifically, in this essay I will attempt to explore the potential of this theory, in regards to how it addresses the exploitations and inequalities created by the current system as addressed by certain authors. I also look to see if the concept of Fair Trade conforms to the ideology of modernization as some scholars seem to believe. Finally, I look into the application of this theory in the real world, and see if it reaches the potential that many believe it is capable of. In order to discuss Fair Trade, one must first know what it is. In 2001, the FINE Consensus (the initials of the FLO, the IFAT, NEWS!, and the EFTA) defined Free Trade as, ..[A] trading partnership, based on dialogue, transparency and respect, which seeks greater equity in international trade. (FINE Consensus 2001) What stunned me is the fact that this is considered a revolutionary idea. Instead, the narrative now is much closer to the idea of neo liberalism. Neo liberals draw their beliefs from many classical economic thinkers, such as Adam Smith. What Smith believed was best for the market was for there to be very little interference by the government, and to allow the invisible hand of the individual consumer determine the outcome. John Bishop states the argument as such: The invisible hand of the market will transform the individual s pursuit of gain into the general utility of society. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 21. Descartes s Meditations On First Philosophy We Think, Therefore We Are Throughout history man has always wanted to understand themselves, and to understand others. Humans have this innate wondering, this curiosity, as to what makes us who we are. What is it inside of us that allows us to exist? Sometimes the answer is as simple as looking inwards, or as René Descartes would call it, meditation. These meditations are moments of reflection, time spent with one s thoughts, and time to figure out where one is placed within the world. During one of these meditations, Descartes creates the phrase, cogito ergo sum , I think, therefore I am, in his monumental book, Principles of Philosophy, though it was written in another form earlier, ego sum, ego existo , I am, I exist, in his book Meditations on First Philosophy. This phrase, put so eloquently, means that because Descartes is able to think, because he is able to ponder his own existence, he therefore, exists. Descartes is correct in saying that his self exists because he can think, and ponder his existence. Descartes use of, cogito ergo sum addresses the issue of doubt in the world, and how to deal with our own existence because of this. We, as humans, have an underlying desire to understand reality, and to know what is, and what isn t. This couldn t be further from the truth. Overall violent crime has been declining since 2005, but the percentage of violent crime victims amongst the African American population hasn t exactly followed this pattern. The percentage of violent crime victims in this demographic fell from 1.7 to 1.3 percent from 2005 to 2013, but from 2013 to 2014 rose from 1.3 to 1.4 percent (US D.O.J, 6). Digging into the novel we see a continuing theme where black characters are being put down by white society throughout the book, and there are even instances where members of the minority put each other down. This vicious cycle is a form of learned submission that Morrison s characters decided to accept as a given way of life. An example of this submission occurs when Morrison is giving us a coherent description of the Breedlove family for the first time in the novel and we are blatantly told that they are ugly. Despite the fact that Morrison makes it extremely clear that the Breedloves are ugly, she begins to make contradictions when she states that you [could] look closely and not [be able to] find the source (Morrison, 39) of their ugliness. Morrison is trying to point out the confusing rules that society s beauty standards are based upon. She starts to become more coherent when she explicitly points out that some mysterious all knowing master [gave] each one a cloak of ugliness, and they accepted it without question (Morrison, 39). This omniscient overlord that Morrison speaks of is the power structure established by the beauty standards which we continually agree to uphold because of the silent contract in our heads that is remnant from our ancestor s transgressions against the Black community. This was done with greater enthusiasm during the post Second World War period more popularly known as the second colonial occupation. Colonial commodity production, because of inappropriate practice, led to widespread environmental degradation. Forest concessions, which were granted to individuals and companies led to massive deforestation. Colonial enterprises destroyed local industries. Generally the colonial economic policies in Kenya were instrumental in incorporating the pre capitalist communities into the colonial and international economic systems. This persisted into the post colonial period. Similarly, Christian missionary activities destroyed African culture through the gospels of salvation, obedience and work. Today, a Masters of Business Administration defines a businessperson and unlocks the doors to the financial world. Modern business hinges on education, but when formal schooling was not widely available, artists considered other factors integral to a flourishing businessman and financial success. Authors, playwrights, and filmmakers recognized the value of formal education, but imagined experience, social dexterity, and observation as the bedrock of economic prosperity. If You Know Not Me You Know Nobody, Roxana, and Working Girl depict a menagerie of educational backgrounds. Although she is literate and skilled in conversation, Roxana has received no formal education in business. Benito Cereno : Slavery and Violence in the Americas is Joyce Adler s analysis of Melville s story. While agreeing with Schiffman that Melville wrote an anti slavery book, she goes beyond her predecessor by claiming that Melville intended to show intricacies of the master/slave relationship and the violence that slavery breeds. Adler argues that the master and slave are inseparable, irreconcilable, and interchangeable (82). She points out that Babo frees himself and subsequently enslaves his former master, Don Benito. She says that Delano s statement, Ah, this slavery breeds ugly passions in man, is Melville s indictment of the practice (86). Adler does not accept Schiffman s color analysis. She contends that black and white are merely opposites and have no significance other than their relative positions in the master/slave relationship. She also places the story in a much broader historical context. She concludes that Benito Cereno is Melville s attempt to warn the United States of its critical flaw: slavery. Personally, I did not really like how the story of Vertigo was filmed. And of course this is just my own opinion, which can be argued based on your own experience with the film. A perfect example where Hitchcock experimented with cinematography of lighting within a scene was inside the Empire hotel. Hitchcock really played a lot with the colors of the neon light coming into Judy Barton s (Kim Novak) hotel room. A more specific scene of his intense use of lighting was when Scottie transforms Judy into Madeleine. In fact, Alfred Hitchcock, really felt that the lighting was very important aspect that helped shape the meaning of the scene. According to Vertigo s screenwriter, Samuel Taylor, he mentioned that Hitchcock never really liked to see the story in a full view. Instead Hitchcock was more focused on viewing each scene like a mosaic. In order to view the full story, he believed he had to first complete each part of the mosaic. Hitchcock creates each scene as a form of artwork. As seen in several scenes throughout Vertigo, we clearly see how he creates scenes by focusing on every aspect of cinematography to tell a deeper sinister narrative through each characters. It shows the efficiency with which all inputs are used in a production function and is defined as the measure of increase in output not due to different input choices but due to increase in marginal products of factors of production. TFP= %∆ in total output α* %∆ in capital (1 α)* %∆ in labour engaged Purpose: TFP measurement helps unravel the direct growth contributions of labour, capital, intermediate inputs and technology. This is an important tool for reviewing past growth patterns and for assessing the potential for future economic growth. Advantages: Total factor productivity tries to capture the efficiency with which inputs of capital as well as labour are used. • 36. A Christmas Memory Short Story Let us be grateful to people who make us happy, they are the charming gardeners who make our souls blossom, Marcel Proust said. This quote suggests how being grateful for the people that you feel close to, will make you feel happier. A Christmas Memory by Truman Capote takes place during the Great Depression in a small Southern town. A seven year old boy named Buddy, and his friend are hit by the Great Depression. They do not have very many possessions, only basic necessities. The holidays are right around the corner so Buddy and his friend decide to make fruit cakes for all of their friends, even though they do not have much. They end up not having much money to get each other something for Christmas. In the end, they both decide that having each other is enough, and that they re both very grateful for one other. One lesson that is taught in the story, is that often, people tend to only be grateful for materialistic things. However, in this story they re grateful for one another. Similarly, in the short story The Gift of the Magi by O. Henry expresses the same theme of gratefulness through the development of the character traits and character conflicts. Both stories show that being grateful for the people that you feel close to, will make you feel happier. From the very beginning in both stories by Capote and Henry, gratefulness has been shown through description of both characters, Buddy and Della. Buddy is grateful that him and his distant cousin have become best friends. We are cousins, very distant ones, and we have lived together well, as long as I can remember. Other people inhabit the house, relatives; and though they have power over us, and frequently make us cry, we are not, on the whole, too much aware of them. We are each other s best friend. She calls me Buddy, in memory of a boy who was formerly her best friend (Capote). This line illustrates that Buddy s distant cousin has taken care of him for as long as he can remember. Buddy is grateful that it has brought them close, they re each other s best friends. Another example of gratefulness is shown through Dellas thoughts and feelings. She is grateful for Jim, because she wanted to get him a nice Christmas present. As soon as she saw it, she knew ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Although Edna s marriage to Leonce is purely and accident , he pleases her and his absolute devotion flattered her (Chopin 506).
