Man Ray s La Priére
Man Ray was born Emmanuel Radnitsky in Philadelphia and grew up in New Jersey. He because a
commercial artist in New York in the 1910s, and began to sign his name Man Ray, although his family
did not change its surname to Ray until the 1920s. Man Ray taught himself photography for him to
reproduce his own creations, which included paintings and mixed media. His first photography studio
was set up when he moved to Paris in 1921, in which he also began making moving pictures. He only
completed four films he titled; Return to Reason, Emak Bakia, Starfish, and Mystery of the Chateau.

states in 1940, he settled in Los Angeles and was extremely disappointed that he was just recognized

Much like plenty of Man Ray s work was aggravated with his yearning to construct a short lived upset
in the audience that would detain sane contemplation process and evoke a fresh way of encountering
the image. In this particular piece, we are confronted with the uncomfortable juxtaposition of hands,
feet, and buttocks. He succeeds in setting up psychological challenges, where the woman is seen
doubled over her rear. She screens her nether parts with her fingers, sprouting between feet and
cheeks. The light contrast of the image exudes simplicity in the image that welcomes the viewer
because one is never quit sure of what you are viewing until one focuses in. The highly illuminated
part of the image is the buttocks, hands, and feet of the woman in the prayer position. Almost as if
there was a spotlight on that specific part and in the background you notice a piece of furniture but
only the leg of what seems to be a chair. The woman is anonymous because we don t see absolutely

Similarities And Differences Between Anne Bradstreet And...
What are the similarities and differences between Anne Bradstreet s and Phillis Wheatley s themes and
use of language?
Introduction
Travelling across the ocean to New England, Anne Bradstreet looked to America as a safe place to
practice her puritan religion (Eberwein 4). She wrote many poems about her family and experiences,
incorporating her faith and personal struggles into her works. A hundred years later, Phillis Wheatley
was kidnapped from her homeland in Africa and brought to America, where she became a devout
Christian and a renowned poet (James). Both women received an education above other women of
their time leading to their literary accomplishments. The purpose of this paper is to determine the
similarities and differences between Anne Bradstreet s and Phillis Wheatley s poems content, in terms
of their themes and language by answering the following questions.
1. What are the common themes of Bradstreet s and Wheatley s poems?
2. What themes are different between Bradstreet s and Wheatley s poems?
3. How do Bradstreet s and Wheatley s use of language differentiate?
Anne Bradstreet s and Phillis Wheatley s poems both share the themes of death and religion, but
Bradstreet explores these themes by tying them to nature and her personal struggles with simplicity
and a religious lens, while Wheatley incorporates race using a sophisticated, Christianity saturated
perspective often bordering on impersonal.

Exploring the Abortion Issue Essay
Exploring the Abortion Issue When it comes to abortion one can not state that there is simply a
conflict between a woman s right to privacy/autonomy of her body (i.e. the right to choose) and the
right to life (particularly the right of the fetus to be born). It is also not adequate to claim that the
alternating theories of when life is created is at the core of the conflict over abortion, because the
definition of the creation of life does not determine when and why the state will protect the right of the
life of the fetus. The overlying issue is a combination of both claims. By carefully analyzing the moral
and empirical claims surrounding the abortion issue, we believe that the best position for our
candidate is one of pro choice ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
During WWI and the Great Depression illegal abortions saw a significant increase and began to call
the attention of social workers and doctors across the country. With the aide of the anti war and civil
rights movements during the 1960 s, the campaign for abortions rights (repeal or reform) was able to
gather major support, which lead to the organization of the National Association for the Repeal of
Abortion Laws (Staggenborg). In 1962 Sherri Finkbine took a drug called thalidomide during her
pregnancy and learned that it could cause deformities to her fetus. She wanted to abort the fetus and
was refused services and in the United States. Finkbine ended up going to Sweden where she aborted
a deformed fetus (Gratz). In 1964 a rubella outbreak, which causes damage to the fetus, influenced
attitudes toward abortion rights. Many women particularly poor women, during this outbreak were
denied abortion services (Gratz). The Hyde Amendment, passed in 1976, limited federal funding for
abortions for poor women and further spurred the pro choice movement (Gratz). During the 1990 s the
battle between the pro choice and pro life heated up. In 1991 thousands of Pro life activists conducted
a 46 day protest called Summer of Mercy that blockaded abortion clinics (Gratz). As a response in

An Emergency Motion Filed By Sga Presidential Candidate...
A court order has ruled to deny an emergency motion filed by SGA presidential candidate Jacob
Milich in his constitutional challenge case against UCF.
The ruling was made on March 15, a day before Sen. Milich was scheduled to appear before the SGA
elections commission for alleged campaign violations.
On March 10, Milich filed a lawsuit against the University of Central Florida Board of Trustees, UCF
s Student Government Association, SGA s election commission, student body president Cait Zona,
supervisor of elections Whitney Barnes and Maribeth Ehasz, vice president of Student Development
and Enrollment Services.
The case complaint cited violations of Milich s First Amendment rights, violations to the federal
Family and Educational Rights and Privacy Act and violations of the state s Sunshine Laws, according
to court documents.
Milich requested the emergency motion in the initial filing in which he maintained that unless he
received preliminary injunctive relief, defendants will imminently and continuously violate his rights,
according to court documents.
Although his request for injunctive relief was denied, Judge Janet Thorpe of the ninth judicial court
did grant a motion for an expedited hearing.
David Oglethorpe, communications coordinator for the Office of Student Involvement, said that
although election violation hearings have traditionally been open, the hearings scheduled to occur on
March 16 and 17 were closed.

As society has revolutionized and with democratic ideology denominating has the western world,
liberation and equality campaigns stemming from third sector (Keane 1998) lobbying groups, stand as
a key component to the operation a civil society (Keane 1998). Carrying an objective to influence
legislators or regulatory agencies, these political advocacy groups play a critical role in the operation
of a healthy liberal democracy. In contemporary society, the notion of Same sex marriage has
polarized public opinion worldwide and is recognized as one of the most controversial non economic

of the unique definition of marriage as stated in the Marriage Act 1961 serves the common good,
particularly the good of children (The Australian Christian Lobby 2012, p.5). The document,
formalized by over 50 religious leaders from a myriad of churches located around Australia, illustrated
not only to parliament, but all bodies operating within the public sphere of the strong religious
opposition to the matter. In 2012 the ACL further exhibited its supremacy as a dominant lobbying
group as it lobbied against a bill introduced to the South Australian Legislative Council aimed at
legalizing same sex marriage. The welfare of Children remained at the forefront of concern for the
ACL whom insinuated children will have to be taught that homosexuality is the same as
heterosexuality (Dunkin 2012). The bill was subsequently defeated as was a same sex marriage bill
introduced into the South Australian Lower House in July 2013. The ACL s most monumental
lobbying triumph, however, commenced on the 22nd of October 2013, shortly after the territory s
legislative assembly passed ACT Marriage Equality laws which came into effect in Canberra on the
7th of December 2013. The ACL actively lobbied against the new controversial laws again bringing to

The Catcher Of The Rye, By Jd Salinger

Feminism in Catcher in the Rye
In Catcher in the Rye, by JD Salinger, the protagonist, Holden Caulfield, has contradicting views of
women along with his social status between adolescence and adulthood. He often objectifies women
for their materialism and simplisticity, however at the same time he has a respect for women that most
teenage boys do not. He has a dualistic way of acting toward women. He either seems socially
immature or in other situations he has a more mature approach than most others his age. Holden is
stuck in a void between adolescence and adulthood which is exemplified through his relationship with
various women. Although it may seem that Holden is pushing ... Show more content on

H A way he tries to cope with this is by attempting to preserve innocence in children.
When he visits Phoebe s school and see s fuck you written on the wall he immediately attempts to
scrub it off trying to protect his sister. He soon realizes that it would be nearly impossible to try and
stop people from growing up and being exposed to the harsh realities of the real world considering
that no matter how hard he tries there is no way he could scrub all the fuck you s off the universe.
Phoebe plays a big role in Holden coming to terms with adulthood. She makes it clear to Holden that
if he does not accept the complexities of becoming an adult he will live a sad life alone. In Holden s
eyes Phoebe represents innocence, the one thing that Holden tries to latch on to throughout the
progression of the novel. She shows Holden s immaturity and desire to remain in the past.
I mean if you tell old Phoebe something, she knows exactly what the hell you re talking about. I mean
you can even take her anywhere with you. This shows how Phoebe is one of the few females in the in
the novel that Holden feels a connection to and respects.
Phoebe also brings Holden to realize that as much as he tries he will not be able to stop himself and
other children from growing up. This is come to realization when Phoebe points out that the song that
Holden was singing repeatedly throughout the novel actually is a poem and Holden had the words
wrong the entire time. This changes the

Beowulf Epic Hero
An epic poem is a long writing that tells about a hero s journeys and battles with gods and mythical
creatures. An epic hero is someone with all of the characteristics valued in that time period. In the epic
Beowulf, recorded around 1000 AD, a noble named Beowulf fought monster for the glory and
admiration of his victories to be known throughout time. Beowulf is an epic hero because of his
descent into the underworld, his super human strength, and his vengefulness. Clearly, Beowulf is an
epic hero because of his decent into the underworld. Although Beowulf did not descend into the true
fiery underworld of hell, he did descend into the deep water of Grendel s Mother s lair where no man
has been before. The epic, Beowulf, says, For hours he sank through the waves, Cantos 22, line 367
368. This shows how far he had to go to get to Grendel s mother s lair. Beowulf had no choice but to
go to the lair and kill her because she killed Hrothgar s faithful servant. Beowulf also says, As all
words ended he leaped into the lake, would not wait for anyone s answer, Cantos 22, line 364 366.
This means that Beowulf was the only one brave enough and capable enough to descend into ... Show

crime, knew at once that nowhere on earth had he met a man whose hands were harder, Cantos 11

that he does not even use weapons or armor to fight many types of monsters. When he faced Grendel,
Beowulf used his strength to rip Grendel s arm from his socket. Not only was Beowulf able to rip
Grendel s arm off, but he also used a huge sword that was made by giants to kill Grendel s mother. No
mortal man could even imagine of wielding such a heavy weapon, but Beowulf used his super strength

Impact Of Mongol Conquests
The Mongol conquests and campaigns of the thirteenth century markeddid indeed mark an important
break in Eurasian History as they brought the the Eurasian world together as never before. The
Mongols were a mixture of forest and prairie people that lived by hunting and livestock herding. As
skilled archers and deadly warriors they expanded their empire to stretch across northern and central
Asia conquering territories much larger than their own. This unleashed a chain of events that would
leave an impact on the world for ages to come. Trade integrated cultures from all across Eurasia,
accompanying disease. The Mongols conquests brought unprecedented destruction among Eurasia.
The Mongols did more than just conquer though; they intensified cultural exchange through trade and
actually bringing about a period of peace In Eurasia. As the Mongols built their empire, assimilating
conquered peoples and some of their ways, the world became integrated sea and land, in historically
unrivaled ways. An important break in Eurasian history was undoubtedly the significant destruction
brought forth by the Mongol expansions in the thirteenth century. These conquests initiated by
Chinggis (Ghengis) Khan and continued by his successors reached the Pacific Ocean and the Adriatic
Sea, founding dynasties in China, Persia and on the southern Eurasian steppes. The conquests were
quite brutal, as towns that resisted would be decimated. It has been estimated that up to five percent of

Energy Conservation And What We Can Do

Energy Conservation and What We Can Do
Every household within the United States can make realistic changes to improve the global energy
crisis. Homes in the United States expend a significant amount of natural gas and electricity. Future
generations may experience drastic energy deficiencies if people around the world do not act now and
take the necessary precautions to reduce energy consumption. Family homes consume roughly thirty
eight percent of the total energy consumption per year, which leads problems like global warming. It
is vital, now more than ever, that individuals comprehend how we deplete energy in a domestic home
and what he or she can do to prevent excessive energy consumption. ... Show more content on

Keep in mind; there are several other means in which an individual can aid this decrease in energy
consumption. The most collective way is to utilize a furnace. Of course, one can always use a
fireplace, stove, electric resistance heater, or electrically powered heat pump to warm up the
household. Generally, furnaces operate via natural gas and result in approximately sixty to ninety
percent efficiency. Shockingly, electrical resistant heaters prove to be almost one hundred percent
efficient when it comes to heat production. Unfortunately, this value is not all that accurate in the end
game scheme of things. These heaters consume a vast amount of energy in order to heat one s home.
An individual needs to inspect the efficiency of a heating element and the amount of energy
consumption necessary for operation when considering a new means to produce household warmth. In
fact, electricity is more costly than natural gas to generate, making electric resistance heaters pricier to
maintain. This energy demand must be included in the total cost of electric resistance heating.
An alternative method to heat one s home, and perhaps my favorite after living in Chico, is to do so
via a fireplace. Yes, a fireplace. A fireplace eliminates the consumption of natural gas. Instead, the
burning of wood fuels a fireplace. Unfortunately, fireplaces do not prove to be an effective solution for
society s environmental problem. The burning of wood produces

The Juche Ideology of North Korea Essay

that ideology is bad, while some people think it is good. Ideology takes a very harmful way in

Kim Il Sung created this dangerous belief system so that North Koreans would always obey him.
Before Dictatorship North Korea was an independent nation, it was a colony full of Christians. Kim Il
Sung noticed how Christians worshipped the Japanese ruler who ruled Korea. When North Korea
declared as a country, Kim Il Sung changed the form of Christianity and he declared himself as a God
so that North Korea will always praise and pray him. Christians revolted against this, so Kim Il Sung
annihilated most of them because he did not want his own people suspecting him of Juche and put lots
of people in concentration camps and they still reside there. (Juche Religion) Juche originated from
Marxism Leninism. Marxism Leninism was created by Karl Marx, some of the main points in this
ideology are that a communist party should be able to perform and play major roles in society. Some
other beliefs in Marxism Leninism are that modern capitalism should turn into imperialism.
(Piskunov) North Korea gained inspiration from Marxism Leninism, which is why this ideology is one
of the main ideologies that Juche originated. Some other ideologies that Juche originated were

Prehensile Tailed Skink ( Corucia Zebrata )
Prehensile Tailed Skink
(Corucia zebrata)
The prehensile tailed skink (Corucia zebrata) is an endemic tropical squamate that is found inhabiting
all major islands of the Solomon archipelago in the Southwest Pacific. It is considered to be one of the
largest known skinks and has many common names such as Solomon Island skink, giant skink,
monkey tail skink, Solomon Island prehensile tailed skink, or simply, Corucia. And just as the
common name indicates, C. zebrata possesses the interesting adaptation of a prehensile tail (Vosjoli,
1993). The Latin name, zebrata, is indicative of their zebra stripe ornamentation. The genus Corucia is
monotypic and only consists of C.z. zebrata and a subspecies population, C.z. alfredschmidti, also
known as the Northern prehensile tailed skink that inhabits Bougainville Island in the Solomon islands
(Harmon, 2002). There is an unfortunate small amount of information known about this species in the
wild, but what has been studied and is known, has led to the belief that this is somewhat of an unusual
and ecologically unique species among the Scincidae (Hagen, Evolution and Ecology of the
Prehensile Tailed Skink, 2011).
Physical Description and Adaptations Corucia zebrata have been shown to exhibit some degree of
sexual dichromatism and dimorphism, however the differences are not highly distinctive between the
sexes in allowing for easy interpretation (Vosjoli, 1993). C. zebrata have large cylindrical

Outline For Exothermic Reaction
what is an exothermic reaction and how can we recognize them?
Chemistry; types of reactions.
Question:
What is an exothermic reaction and where can we find them.
Thesis:
Despite the fact that there are many different types of reactions, exothermic reactions are a category of
reactions that give off energy, this is what makes them so dangerous as well as interesting. It is also
what allows them to put on the best show.
To start things off lets go over what a chemical reaction is. A chemical reaction is a chemical change
which forms new substances, such as compounds. Common chemical reactions include a candle
burning, a nail rusting. *Physical changes reposition molecules but do not affect their internal
structures. Physical changes you may already know of are, scrambling eggs, boiling water and even
slicing an apple. Where as a chemical changes result in the creation of different chemical substances at
the molecular level. Chemical change requires breaking or making of bonds between atoms, and are
usually irreversible. Chemical changes such as petrol burning, iron rusting and baking a cake. You
cant simply dry rust to get it back to pure metal or freeze a cake to get the ingredients out. ***

Oxidation is defined as the interaction between oxygen molecules and all the different substances they
may contact, from metal to living tissue. Rusting is a chemical reaction between iron and oxygen to
yield iron oxide, this reaction can be expressed as 4Fe + 3O2 2Fe2O3 Exothermic reacting in living
tissue might seem far fetched, surprisingly enough its not. Your lungs are going through a combustion
process to respirate the air we breath, into biological energy know as ATP. Why don t we sound like

Summary Of Marshal PĂ©henno s Wartime Regime
Time and time again throughout history, a document comes along to remind us that books matter,
especially when written in a historical/literary context, and even more so when the writer himself
writes against the wishes of his current political situation. The diary kept by the French writer and
critic Jean Guéhenno during the German occupation of France from 1940 to 1944 is a perfect example
of one such document. Unlike most French intellectuals of the time, Guéhenno refused to openly
publish a single word as long as France remained under the control of Germany, as well as the Vichy
government of Marshal Philippe PĂ©tain. Instead he wrote in his diary as an act of resistance, and as a
chronicle of his country s servitude. In an entry dated ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
And after all, whether our cell is full of light or not depends on us alone. Guéhenno heavily criticized
Vichy s participation in the persecution of the Jews, approved of Charles de Gaulle s defiance of
PĂ©tain, and repeatedly condemned the shame of German/Nazi collaboration. In his 1947 preface to his
wartime diary, Jean Guéhenno wrote: All you will find here is the journal of our common miseries. It
was a misery in which all Frenchmen shared, but were too afraid to write about, for fear of
persecution, or worse, execution from a Vichy government who was in collaboration with Nazi
Germany. Guéhenno loved his country, and hated to see what it had become, and what it was
becoming, and perhaps feared for the future. It is within this diary that Guéhenno expresses his utmost
disdain for the politics of his country, and creates a voice for the voiceless people who share his
misery. As noted, Guéhenno was a very intelligent man, and a very creative mind. When you have
such a mind, it is unbearable to be trapped in a situation in which there is no escape. And as stated
before, literature is Guéhenno s escape. Therefore Guéhenno writes his diary in the safety of his own
world, and through his creative mind, escape the shared misery that is the dark

Scaling the Mighty Kilimanjaro for Clean Water
If today I told you that I have climbed Africa s highest mountain on my hands and wheelchair, and

But I have! Four years ago, alongside my best mates, David and Alex, I actually climbed Mt.
Kilimanjaro to the very top. In so doing, we raised close to four hundred thousand pounds for
provision of clean water for the locals. You may wonder how this was made possible. Well, I will tell

The Great Honor Of The Hundred Acre Woods
From the ancient ceremonies of China to the Hundred Acre Woods, tigers have had iconic roles in
cultures around the world. They symbolize strength, energy, and wealth, and to be associated with one
whether through birth signs or personality traits is a great honor. Their time on Earth, however, may
one day come to an end, and they will be reduced to legends and storybook characters unless we do
something to help them.
Tigers are beautiful, powerful, and majestic creatures that are being wiped out by humans. If they re
not dying from habitat loss, they re being hunted for their fur and bones to make fancy clothes and
traditional medicines that can be easily replaced with aspirin. We humans act as though our higher

Tigers can eat about 88 pounds of meat at one time and will hunt every eight or nine days. They are
not house cats. They are strong, smart, and independent animals that need the respect they are due.
Historically, there have been nine subspecies of tigers. Three have become extinct in the last century:
the Bali tiger, the Caspian tiger, and the Javan tiger. One subspecies, the South China tiger, is on the
top ten list of endangered species list and is projected to disappear in the next ten years. The remaining
five subspecies are the Siberian, Bengal, Malayan, Indochinese, and Sumatran tigers. Including all the
subspecies, there are fewer than 3,200 wild tigers left in the world. Each of these subspecies inhabits a
specific geographical location; the disappearance of a subspecies means the disappearance of tigers in
an entire area. For example, when the Caspian tiger, which lived in the Middle East from around the
Caspian Sea through Kazakhstan, was declared extinct in the 1970s, tigers weren t to be found farther
west than India. The loss of a subspecies is a very big deal for the ecosystems they occupied.
There are two main reasons for the endangerment of tigers. The first reason is poaching. Tigers are
often hunted for their fur to make clothing and fashion accessories in both Asian and Western
countries. Some traditional Tibetan robes

Of Thomas Mannïżœs Tonio KroegerAnd Albert Camus s The Stranger
Thomas Mann s Tonio Kroeger and Albert Camus s The Stranger
Introduction
The literary characters of Meursault and Tonio Kroeger are likely depicted as outsiders in the novels
The Stranger by Albert Camus and Tonio Kroeger by Thomas Mann. The novels can both be described
as existentialist investigations. In the school of philosophy, existentialism seeks to investigate the
relationship between individuals and the society, the meaning of life, and the unavoidable conflicts in
interpersonal relationships among other inquisitions (Sleasman, 2014). Existentialism is evident in the
two novels under review as the characters are treated as outsiders.
Albert Camus The Stranger The concept of the outsider is demonstrated by the two lead characters
namely Meursault and Tonio Kroeger. In The Stranger, Meursault is depicted as an outsider both in
himself as well as the society as owing to his criminal tendencies as he battles to show emotions and
link with realities regarding his life (Sleasman, 2014). Meursault is depicted as much disconnected to
the current world and life either emotionally or socially. For instance, the opening scene shows how
Meursault reacts to his mother s death. His lack of remorse and loss is both salient and borders on the
pathological. By falling asleep during his mother s funeral; the action demonstrates the lack of
feelings and social competence which children are usually expected to show to their parents (Camus,
2012). Furthermore, he consents

On August 9, 2014, a young, unarmed, 18 year old, black man named Michael Brown was shot to
death six times by 28 year old, white police officer Darren Wilson in Ferguson, Missouri, a town just
outside of St. Louis, Missouri. Some say Officer Wilson was protecting his life, I call it police

National Guard are working double time to keep everything under control. There are many things that
led up to the shooting. At 11:54 am on August 9, 2014, Michael Brown and his friend Dorian Johnson
were recorded on a convenience store security camera leaving the store with a $48.00 box of Swisher
Sweet Cigars. At that time, a dispatch went out over police radio reporting the crime, a strong armed
robbery (Freivogal). According to Grandstrandlaw.com, a strong armed robbery ... occurs when there
is no deadly weapon used during the robbery (Frederick). With this in mind, we cannot assume that
Michael Brown had a gun. We can also not say that he may have had a gun, but just decided to not

Brown and Johnson left the store, they had a ten minute walk to get back to where they lived. When

The Patterns Of Teen Drug Abuse
A pattern that we ve seen erupt over the last couple of years is the habit of teenagers and young adults
falling prey to party drugs, there s been a sense of normalcy placed along with a pill popping culture,
you ll notice rappers almost romanticizing and influencing teenagers into experimenting with
prescription drugs. What most people don t take into consideration before consuming these drugs is
that most prescription opioids have addictive side effects, that when taken in long term or copious
amounts can cause the user to experience withdrawals and ultimately draw them back in a continuous
cycle. Most would say, why can t they just not take the drugs? Or claim it was the users fault because
they know better. While they are not entirely right, it s not wrong either. Research shows that a large
majority of teens will find themselves in a position where they will be offered drugs before the age of
14 at a party, this decision will ultimately affect their life in the long run, be it becoming a social
outcast from their peers for not trying these drugs, or taking them and developing an addiction that
will surely harm their bodies before they ve truly became adults.
Teen drug overdose is an issue that dates back over multiple generations, with each finding their own
ways to get recreational highs. However, there was a significant increase in death from years 1999 to
2007 within age groups 15 19(1). As time goes on, higher percentages of teens experiment with

How Do Condensins Construct Chromosomes During Interphase
Abstract
Condensins are chromosomal architectural proteins that control levels of chromatin compaction during
interphase and mitosis. In addition to their role in mitosis condensins function during interphase, and
have recently emerged as important regulators of genome organization and gene expression. We
discuss recent findings on how condensins construct chromosomes during interphase.
Introduction
The discovery by Walter Flemming in the 1800s of thread like structures once visible only during cell
division sparked the investigation into the contents and purpose of what was later coined as
chromosomes. Although much of the specifics of the chromosomal components have been teased
apart, many questions still remain about higher order chromosomal ... Show more content on

Two central complexes have been identified, the first being condensin I from Xenopus egg extracts
and later, condensin II in HeLa cells [1,2,3 and 4]. These complexes contain two highly conserved
core subunits and three regulatory elements, one from the kleisin family and two with HEAT repeat
motifs (Figure 1)[2]. The two core subunits: SMC2 and SMC4 are part of the structural maintenance
chromosomes (SMC) family of proteins that dimerize at one end to create a hinge and branch apart. At
the opposite end of each SMC is an ATP head binding domain that interacts with regulatory subunits
[5and 6]. The regulatory subunits can differ across organisms and differentiates the two condensin
complexes. For example, condensin I, found in most prokaryotes and eukaryotes, is composed of the
regulatory subunits: Cap D2, Cap G, and Cap H [7]. Found widely in eukaryotes, condensin II is
composed of Cap D3, Cap G2, and Cap H2 [3]. The Chromosome Associated Proteins or Cap D2/Cap
D3 and Cap G/Cap G2 are similar in that they both possess HEAT repeat domains, known to facilitate
protein protein interactions [7]. The Cap H/Cap H2 subunits are part of the kleisin family of proteins
[4]. It is worth noting that in Caenorhabditis elegans a third complex, condensin IDC, has also been
identified and is structurally similar to condensin I except with the subunit DPY 27 which takes

The Effects Of Media On Children With Disabilities Essay
Mass media allows many people in society to understand different problems and receive news around
the world. In the United States, mass media plays a big role in portraying stereotypes and creating
stigmas, especially for people with disabilities. It can be very difficult for people who do not have a
disability to portray the feelings of someone with a disability or understand how to create media that
does not contain stereotypes of people with disabilities.
When people with disabilities are included in the making of media content, they are able to debate the
societal issues related to them that rarely make the mainstream press (Haller, 2010, p.117). This means
that they can bring up problems that they have personally experienced and help educate society on
how those problems can be resolved. News about disabilities should be included in the media more
often in order to help able bodied people become aware of disabilities and avoid the stereotypes that
have been created. If a person with a disability helps make a story about someone with a disability,
they can make sure the story explains the necessary issue and disregards any stigmas. Beth Haller
describes in her book Representing Disabilities in an Ableist World: Essays on Mass Media that
historically, articles about people with disabilities rarely made it into the news, and, when the articles
were written, that they were misrepresentative and stigmatizing (2010, p. 119). In addition, an

relationship between household incarceration and two outcomes: failure to graduate high school and
extended school absence. Loper and Nichols (2012) examined three factors:
1. If youth with incarcerated household members experienced more social and economic adversity and
worse school outcomes than the rest of the sample.
2. Whether household member ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Furthermore, this influence is not only related to the parents influence, but is extended to other close
relationship s in the child s household. Other theories that may explain how incarceration has an
impact on children are strain, attachment, social control, and stigma.
Loper and Nichols hypothesized that household incarceration would have a great impact on academic
outcomes of the children in the household.
Methods
There were several relevant variables used in this study. The control variables used were demographic,
socioeconomic, and other adversity variables such as sex, ethnicity, poverty status, mother s
educational attainment, cognitive ability, and home environment quality. The dependent variables in
this study were related to academic outcomes such as extended absences and failure to graduate from
high school. The independent variables used were parental incarceration, sibling incarceration, and
other household member s incarceration (Loper and Nichols, 2012). The study by Lopers and Nichols
was a longitudinal, study design using data from the National Longitudinal Survey of Youth, Child
and Youth survey (NLSY 2010), which included women and their children. According to Lopers and
Nichols, Out of the sample, 585 met criteria for the household incarceration status, to be compared to
2,753 individuals who did not experience household incarceration (p. 5). Furthermore, it

The Italian Agriculture Business Industry
Those oils are shipped tax free to Italy, where they are bottled for the order and profit of the
multinational corporations. The labels on bottles will read Packed in Italy and are sold at prices very
close to the Made in Italy products. The knowledge of the origin the date of the product and the way
that it was produced, including the chemicals that were added plus the sanitary issues involved are
hidden or not disclosed, on labels thanks to the favoritism of the laws formulated that are putting at
stake the consumer health.
This is a downfall for the Italian image that before the multinationals entered the market was known
for their high quality goods and the reputation in the field. The Italian agriculture business has to deal
with the Food Piracy. Six million euro per hour that s the amount of the made in Italy turnover loss; as
it is reported by Confagricoltura (organization of representation and guardianship of the Italian
agricultural enterprise.) A loss caused by the so called Italian sounding whose images, names and
colors imitate the Italian products, but actually those products have nothing to do with the original
made in Italy quality, culture and traditions.
Of course, it is a rip off for the consumer that is easily lured, especially if the consumer is not aware of
the differences between the Made in Italy and Product of Italy or Packed in Italy labels. The Italian
flag and its Tricolore (3 colors) green white red is always very visible, on

Regenerative Farming
This paper will address the benefits of regenerative agriculture/farming or what some refer to as
permaculture. How it is sustainable and how it benefits the ecosystems of the world. In addition, the
author will discuss improved grazing and cropping methods that grow and protect rather than deplete
topsoil, in the process sequestering carbon, increasing water retention capacity... and creating wildlife
habitat (Hewitt, 2017). Regenerative agriculture is about guaranteeing a fair distribution of equity. A
reasonable livelihood for farmers as well as farm workers. It is restoring vibrant rural communities
and eliminating policies that no longer incentivize the degradation of the land and the consolidation of
wealth and political power (Hewitt, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Most people are not aware of the journey animals make from birth to table. As well as how what they
are fed impacts us as omnivores, the soil as well as the animal themselves. In addition to the monetary
and environmental cost of providing feed, transporting the animal, carcass and all. If we truly
understood where our food is produced, how and what is fed to them, how much is produced, what is
used to ensure plentiful crops and how it eventually affects our health as well as our ecosystem, we
wouldn t want to eat it. Michael Pollan takes us on that journey in his book An Omnivore s Dilemma
where he explains how animals in feedlots, are subject to eating grain, (i.e. corn) pumped with
antibiotics as opposed to their natural diet of grass, in order to increase their size. A practice endorsed
by the United States Department of Agriculture. It is incredulous that we as a nation have given power
to food companies and politicians, the power to tell us what to eat, often with only their profit s (rather
than our health) in mind. Pollan also suggests that many of the nutritional and health problems facing
America today can be traced back to the farms that grow our food (and the government policies that
dictate what happens on those farms)

I m Working On My Charm Essay examples
I m Working on My Charm by Dorothy Allison I m Working on My Charm written by Dorothy Allison
is a story of a southern girl at a party consisting of Yankees. It brings her back to the time when she
was sixteen and working at a counter with her mother. Her mother had taught her the tricks of being a
well tipped waitress while serving to a variety of customers. The waitresses each played a game where
they would guess the tip their customer would give before ordering. Yankees were the most difficult
customer, whom no one would bet on because they were inconsistent with their tips. The narrator soon
learned to work her charm on the Yankees in order to please them. At the party, she continues to use
her southern charm to win the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The Yankees have a belief that all Southerners fit their stereotypical role, so the narrator plays up her
charm for them to make them believe as if they were right. She knows that the Yankees have a certain
perception of people down south and uses that against them to get exactly what she wants from them.
The short story s point of view is told in first person by the narrator. I m Working on My Charm is told
by a daughter who learns and exercises the advantages of the southern charm. It made her heavy
bosom move dramatically, and I remembered times I d seen her do that at the counter. It made me feel
even more embarrassed and angry, the narrator stated. In the quote, it shows that the narrator is
uncomfortable with the way the waitresses interact with customers just for tips. She doesn t think it is
fair to compromise her dignity, but still does it to make her money. By the point of view being told in
first person, the reader is able to read the thoughts of the character to understand their feelings. The
setting takes place in two opposite places. One took place in 1966 at a counter back of a Moses
Drugstore planted in the middle of a Highway 50 shopping mall, and the other was years later at a
party for the narrator s job located in the North. At that time, segregation had ended which influenced
the thoughts people had on the South. People from Northern states believed everyone from the South
didn t have any education.

Shutter Island Film Analysis
The following is written to examine a connection made between the varying texts using manipulation
and how it impacts the audience s perception of reality. The texts I will include which are evident of
manipulation are Shutter Island a visual thriller directed by Martin Scorsese, Inception a visual action,
adventure conducted by Christopher Nolan, Twelfth Night written by William Shakespeare, and Tell
Tale Heart produced by Edgar Allan Poe. I decided to choose texts that are recognized for their
brilliance. Both visual and written texts are contrasted in relation to time, the visual texts are of
modern era whereas the written texts are of a previous generation.
Manipulation is defined as influencing an idea and can have ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Towards the final scenes of the film, Daniels becomes increasingly aware of the impact he has made
on his society, hence the title Shutter Island//Shot her Island . Daniels realizes his guilt through the
way the characters have helped him to discover who he really is, Daniels is able to sum it up to the
audience through the dialogue Which would be worse: To live as a monster, or to die as a good man?
The audience is able to understand that Daniels has accepted his reality, making him the good man . A
common theme today is not accepting reality or being in denial, this is due to the way denying the
reality of something enables the body to cope (bodies defence mechanism1). The character of Daniels
helps to influence today s society by showing us that accepting the reality we create is better than to
regret or deny it. Thus, changing the way, we perceive reality.
In the film Inception , Nolan influences the audience to connect to the character of Dominic Cobb.
Like Shutter Island the character (Cobb) in this film is also revolved around. Nolan uses a theme
evident in today s society, the perception of reality to develop and connect the portrayal of Cobb and
connect the audience. In terms of Cobb, this theme can be translated to his internal conflict of dreams
versus reality. Nolan inflects an emotional connection to Cobb and the audience through this internal
conflict. A

The Pros And Cons Of Football
What is football? Football is a sport where you can shine and show your potential talent. For most
people football is not just a game; it is more than that, it is a job as much as it is a lifestyle. For most
athletes, when you step out onto the field you forget what is really going on in your life. However, for
a professional quarterback, you cannot just forget about the world and play the sport. The quarterback
has many responsibilities since they are the most valuable player on the field, so they cannot lose their
mind in the chaos of the game. Being a quarterback is already a hard role, which is why there are
limited amount of great quarterbacks in the National Football League. There are many great
quarterbacks in the spotlight, which is why they get all the blame for the wrongdoing. However, out of
all the quarterbacks in the National Football League, the real question is which can prove himself to
be the best player, Peyton Manning or Tom Brady?
Peyton Manning is 6 5 and 230 pounds at the age of 39 and has 18 seasons as a quarterback in the
Nation Football League( Peyton Manning Biography para.1). He has broken all kinds of National
Football League records. Tom Brady is 6 4 and 225 pounds at the age of 38 and has 16 seasons as a
quarterback in the National Football League(Tom Brady Body Measurement Height Weight Shoe Size
Stats para 5). Tom Brady has four Super Bowl rings and has been in the Super Bowl six times.

Pat s Personality Traits
Personality test can either accurately describe who you are, or misinterpret the type of personality trait
you exhibit. Either way, personality tests can help an employer hire a person for a job or it can aid
family and friends and oneself, to better understand who an individual is. Therefore, by using the Five
Factor Model of personality and Pat s corresponding results, I will be explaining Pat s personality
throughout this paper. The Five Factor Model of personality in which a 55 and above is a high score,
54 45 is average and 44 and below is low, is categorized as followed: Openness, Conscientiousness,
Extroversion, Agreeableness and Neuroticism. In addition, I will as well consider Pat s MMPI 2 (an
atheoretical test of personality for clinical populations in which 65 is clinically elevated, when

The test noted she could be rude, harsh and avoid following the rules. Pat only as one best friend and
tend to be a loner. She doesn t follow the rules, even when it concerns her job performance. Pat as
never followed the rules, she smokes when she knew it was bad for her health and even stated she was
going to die anyway is why stop.
Finally, Pat neuroticism result is 75, this result shows she as a high level of anxiety and depression.
She can be insecure, worried, nervous and high strung, which explained her MMP1 2 result of
depression 61, hypomania 51, hysteria 57, and psychastenia 40. Pat s family history showed mental
health concerns, which could explain Pat result in the Five Factor Model.
Pat results seem to accurately describe her personality traits, which in my opinion would be an
introvert, a loner. She fined it hard to trust people and prefer to stay at home. She is not very calm in
situations and disorganized in task. Yet Pat sees herself as a fighter, and if she get knocked down she

In this particular piece, we are confronted with the uncomfortable juxtaposition of hands, feet, and buttocks. He succeeds in setting up psychological challenges, where the woman is seen doubled over her rear. She screens her nether parts with her fingers, sprouting between feet and cheeks. The light contrast of the image exudes simplicity in the image that welcomes the viewer because one is never quit sure of what you are viewing until one focuses in. The highly illuminated part of the image is the buttocks, hands, and feet of the woman in the prayer position. Introduction Travelling across the ocean to New England, Anne Bradstreet looked to America as a safe place to practice her puritan religion (Eberwein 4). She wrote many poems about her family and experiences, incorporating her faith and personal struggles into her works. A hundred years later, Phillis Wheatley was kidnapped from her homeland in Africa and brought to America, where she became a devout Christian and a renowned poet (James). • 5. Exploring the Abortion Issue Essay Exploring the Abortion Issue When it comes to abortion one can not state that there is simply a conflict between a woman s right to privacy/autonomy of her body (i.e. the right to choose) and the right to life (particularly the right of the fetus to be born). It is also not adequate to claim that the alternating theories of when life is created is at the core of the conflict over abortion, because the definition of the creation of life does not determine when and why the state will protect the right of the life of the fetus. The overlying issue is a combination of both claims. By carefully analyzing the moral and empirical claims surrounding the abortion issue, we believe that the best position for our candidate is one of pro choice ... During WWI and the Great Depression illegal abortions saw a significant increase and began to call the attention of social workers and doctors across the country. Many women particularly poor women, during this outbreak were denied abortion services (Gratz). The Hyde Amendment, passed in 1976, limited federal funding for abortions for poor women and further spurred the pro choice movement (Gratz). A court order has ruled to deny an emergency motion filed by SGA presidential candidate Jacob Milich in his constitutional challenge case against UCF. The ruling was made on March 15, a day before Sen. Milich was scheduled to appear before the SGA elections commission for alleged campaign violations. On March 10, Milich filed a lawsuit against the University of Central Florida Board of Trustees, UCF s Student Government Association, SGA s election commission, student body president Cait Zona, supervisor of elections Whitney Barnes and Maribeth Ehasz, vice president of Student Development and Enrollment Services. The case complaint cited violations of Milich s First Amendment rights, violations to the federal Family and Educational Rights and Privacy Act and violations of the state s Sunshine Laws, according to court documents. Milich requested the emergency motion in the initial filing in which he maintained that unless he received preliminary injunctive relief, defendants will imminently and continuously violate his rights, according to court documents. Although his request for injunctive relief was denied, Judge Janet Thorpe of the ninth judicial court did grant a motion for an expedited hearing. In Holden s eyes Phoebe represents innocence, the one thing that Holden tries to latch on to throughout the progression of the novel. She shows Holden s immaturity and desire to remain in the past. I mean if you tell old Phoebe something, she knows exactly what the hell you re talking about. I mean you can even take her anywhere with you. This shows how Phoebe is one of the few females in the in the novel that Holden feels a connection to and respects. Phoebe also brings Holden to realize that as much as he tries he will not be able to stop himself and other children from growing up. • 11. Impact Of Mongol Conquests The Mongol conquests and campaigns of the thirteenth century markeddid indeed mark an important break in Eurasian History as they brought the the Eurasian world together as never before. The Mongols were a mixture of forest and prairie people that lived by hunting and livestock herding. As skilled archers and deadly warriors they expanded their empire to stretch across northern and central Asia conquering territories much larger than their own. This unleashed a chain of events that would leave an impact on the world for ages to come. Trade integrated cultures from all across Eurasia, accompanying disease. • 13. Energy Conservation And What We Can Do Kris Gilmour August 14, 2015 GEOS 330 Energy Conservation and What We Can Do Every household within the United States can make realistic changes to improve the global energy crisis. Homes in the United States expend a significant amount of natural gas and electricity. Future generations may experience drastic energy deficiencies if people around the world do not act now and take the necessary precautions to reduce energy consumption. Family homes consume roughly thirty eight percent of the total energy consumption per year, which leads problems like global warming. It is vital, now more than ever, that individuals comprehend how we deplete energy in a domestic home and what he or she can do to prevent excessive energy consumption. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Keep in mind; there are several other means in which an individual can aid this decrease in energy consumption. The most collective way is to utilize a furnace. Of course, one can always use a fireplace, stove, electric resistance heater, or electrically powered heat pump to warm up the household. Generally, furnaces operate via natural gas and result in approximately sixty to ninety percent efficiency. Shockingly, electrical resistant heaters prove to be almost one hundred percent efficient when it comes to heat production. Unfortunately, this value is not all that accurate in the end game scheme of things. These heaters consume a vast amount of energy in order to heat one s home. An individual needs to inspect the efficiency of a heating element and the amount of energy consumption necessary for operation when considering a new means to produce household warmth. In fact, electricity is more costly than natural gas to generate, making electric resistance heaters pricier to maintain. This energy demand must be included in the total cost of electric resistance heating. An alternative method to heat one s home, and perhaps my favorite after living in Chico, is to do so via a fireplace. Yes, a fireplace. A fireplace eliminates the consumption of natural gas. Instead, the burning of wood fuels a fireplace. Unfortunately, fireplaces do not prove to be an effective solution for society s environmental problem. The burning of wood produces ... All Quiet on the Western Front Essay With WWI came a generation of young men that were lost forever, regardless if they exited in a coffin. In Erich Maria Remarque s landmark novel All Quiet on the Western Front , he illustrates the everyday hell soldier s face fishing in the battlefields of WWI. The novel, Paul Baumer, is a foot soldier fighting for the German army; he shares a first hand account of the war s atrocities on himself and his comrades in arms. Erich Maria Remarque utilizes morbid imagery in order to teach readers how is war is vile and putrid. Early on the soldiers get acquainted to sounds of war when ear piercing screams come from fatally wounded horses that fell victim to enemy artillery fire. The author creates this imagery But this appalling noise, these groans and screams penetrate, they penetrate everywhere. Prehensile Tailed Skink ( Corucia Zebrata ) Prehensile Tailed Skink (Corucia zebrata) The prehensile tailed skink (Corucia zebrata) is an endemic tropical squamate that is found inhabiting all major islands of the Solomon archipelago in the Southwest Pacific. It is considered to be one of the largest known skinks and has many common names such as Solomon Island skink, giant skink, monkey tail skink, Solomon Island prehensile tailed skink, or simply, Corucia. And just as the common name indicates, C. zebrata possesses the interesting adaptation of a prehensile tail (Vosjoli, 1993). The Latin name, zebrata, is indicative of their zebra stripe ornamentation. The genus Corucia is monotypic and only consists of C.z. zebrata and a subspecies population, C.z. alfredschmidti, also known as the Northern prehensile tailed skink that inhabits Bougainville Island in the Solomon islands (Harmon, 2002). There is an unfortunate small amount of information known about this species in the wild, but what has been studied and is known, has led to the belief that this is somewhat of an unusual and ecologically unique species among the Scincidae (Hagen, Evolution and Ecology of the Prehensile Tailed Skink, 2011). Question: What is an exothermic reaction and where can we find them. Thesis: Despite the fact that there are many different types of reactions, exothermic reactions are a category of reactions that give off energy, this is what makes them so dangerous as well as interesting. It is also what allows them to put on the best show. To start things off lets go over what a chemical reaction is. A chemical reaction is a chemical change which forms new substances, such as compounds. Common chemical reactions include a candle burning, a nail rusting. *Physical changes reposition molecules but do not affect their internal structures. Physical changes you may already know of are, scrambling eggs, boiling water and even slicing an apple. Summary Of Marshal PĂ©henno s Wartime Regime Time and time again throughout history, a document comes along to remind us that books matter, especially when written in a historical/literary context, and even more so when the writer himself writes against the wishes of his current political situation. The diary kept by the French writer and critic Jean GuĂ©henno during the German occupation of France from 1940 to 1944 is a perfect example of one such document. Unlike most French intellectuals of the time, GuĂ©henno refused to openly publish a single word as long as France remained under the control of Germany, as well as the Vichy government of Marshal Philippe PĂ©tain. And after all, whether our cell is full of light or not depends on us alone. GuĂ©henno heavily criticized Vichy s participation in the persecution of the Jews, approved of Charles de Gaulle s defiance of PĂ©tain, and repeatedly condemned the shame of German/Nazi collaboration. In his 1947 preface to his wartime diary, Jean GuĂ©henno wrote: All you will find here is the journal of our common miseries. It was a misery in which all Frenchmen shared, but were too afraid to write about, for fear of persecution, or worse, execution from a Vichy government who was in collaboration with Nazi Germany. GuĂ©henno loved his country, and hated to see what it had become, and what it was becoming, and perhaps feared for the future. It is within this diary that GuĂ©henno expresses his utmost disdain for the politics of his country, and creates a voice for the voiceless people who share his misery. As noted, GuĂ©henno was a very intelligent man, and a very creative mind. When you have such a mind, it is unbearable to be trapped in a situation in which there is no escape. Of Thomas Mannïżœs Tonio KroegerAnd Albert Camus s The Stranger Thomas Mann s Tonio Kroeger and Albert Camus s The Stranger Introduction The literary characters of Meursault and Tonio Kroeger are likely depicted as outsiders in the novels The Stranger by Albert Camus and Tonio Kroeger by Thomas Mann. The novels can both be described as existentialist investigations. In the school of philosophy, existentialism seeks to investigate the relationship between individuals and the society, the meaning of life, and the unavoidable conflicts in interpersonal relationships among other inquisitions (Sleasman, 2014). Existentialism is evident in the two novels under review as the characters are treated as outsiders. Albert Camus The Stranger The concept of the outsider is demonstrated by the two lead characters namely Meursault and Tonio Kroeger. In The Stranger, Meursault is depicted as an outsider both in himself as well as the society as owing to his criminal tendencies as he battles to show emotions and link with realities regarding his life (Sleasman, 2014). Meursault is depicted as much disconnected to the current world and life either emotionally or socially. For instance, the opening scene shows how Meursault reacts to his mother s death. His lack of remorse and loss is both salient and borders on the pathological. What most people don t take into consideration before consuming these drugs is that most prescription opioids have addictive side effects, that when taken in long term or copious amounts can cause the user to experience withdrawals and ultimately draw them back in a continuous cycle. Most would say, why can t they just not take the drugs? Or claim it was the users fault because they know better. While they are not entirely right, it s not wrong either. In addition to their role in mitosis condensins function during interphase, and have recently emerged as important regulators of genome organization and gene expression. We discuss recent findings on how condensins construct chromosomes during interphase. Introduction The discovery by Walter Flemming in the 1800s of thread like structures once visible only during cell division sparked the investigation into the contents and purpose of what was later coined as chromosomes. Two central complexes have been identified, the first being condensin I from Xenopus egg extracts and later, condensin II in HeLa cells [1,2,3 and 4]. These complexes contain two highly conserved core subunits and three regulatory elements, one from the kleisin family and two with HEAT repeat motifs (Figure 1)[2]. The two core subunits: SMC2 and SMC4 are part of the structural maintenance chromosomes (SMC) family of proteins that dimerize at one end to create a hinge and branch apart. At the opposite end of each SMC is an ATP head binding domain that interacts with regulatory subunits [5and 6]. The regulatory subunits can differ across organisms and differentiates the two condensin complexes. For example, condensin I, found in most prokaryotes and eukaryotes, is composed of the regulatory subunits: Cap D2, Cap G, and Cap H [7]. Found widely in eukaryotes, condensin II is composed of Cap D3, Cap G2, and Cap H2 [3]. The Chromosome Associated Proteins or Cap D2/Cap D3 and Cap G/Cap G2 are similar in that they both possess HEAT repeat domains, known to facilitate protein protein interactions [7]. The Cap H/Cap H2 subunits are part of the kleisin family of proteins [4]. • 33. The Effects Of Media On Children With Disabilities Essay Mass media allows many people in society to understand different problems and receive news around the world. In the United States, mass media plays a big role in portraying stereotypes and creating stigmas, especially for people with disabilities. It can be very difficult for people who do not have a disability to portray the feelings of someone with a disability or understand how to create media that does not contain stereotypes of people with disabilities. When people with disabilities are included in the making of media content, they are able to debate the societal issues related to them that rarely make the mainstream press (Haller, 2010, p.117). This means that they can bring up problems that they have personally experienced and help educate society on how those problems can be resolved. News about disabilities should be included in the media more often in order to help able bodied people become aware of disabilities and avoid the stereotypes that have been created. If a person with a disability helps make a story about someone with a disability, they can make sure the story explains the necessary issue and disregards any stigmas. Beth Haller describes in her book Representing Disabilities in an Ableist World: Essays on Mass Media that historically, articles about people with disabilities rarely made it into the news, and, when the articles were written, that they were misrepresentative and stigmatizing (2010, p. 119). Background In a study of children that had a family member or family associate incarcerated prior to their 18th birthday, Loper Nichols (2012) attempted to address the impact that such incarceration had on such children. It was expected, consistent with previous literature, that household incarceration would have an impact on academic outcomes. The purpose of the study was to evaluate the relationship between household incarceration and two outcomes: failure to graduate high school and extended school absence. Loper and Nichols (2012) examined three factors: 1. If youth with incarcerated household members experienced more social and economic adversity and worse school outcomes than the rest of the sample. 2. Whether household member ... Other theories that may explain how incarceration has an impact on children are strain, attachment, social control, and stigma. Loper and Nichols hypothesized that household incarceration would have a great impact on academic outcomes of the children in the household. Methods There were several relevant variables used in this study. The control variables used were demographic, socioeconomic, and other adversity variables such as sex, ethnicity, poverty status, mother s educational attainment, cognitive ability, and home environment quality. The dependent variables in this study were related to academic outcomes such as extended absences and failure to graduate from high school. The independent variables used were parental incarceration, sibling incarceration, and other household member s incarceration (Loper and Nichols, 2012). The study by Lopers and Nichols was a longitudinal, study design using data from the National Longitudinal Survey of Youth, Child and Youth survey (NLSY 2010), which included women and their children. According to Lopers and Nichols, Out of the sample, 585 met criteria for the household incarceration status, to be compared to 2,753 individuals who did not experience household incarceration (p. 5). • 42. The Italian Agriculture Business Industry Those oils are shipped tax free to Italy, where they are bottled for the order and profit of the multinational corporations. The labels on bottles will read Packed in Italy and are sold at prices very close to the Made in Italy products. The knowledge of the origin the date of the product and the way that it was produced, including the chemicals that were added plus the sanitary issues involved are hidden or not disclosed, on labels thanks to the favoritism of the laws formulated that are putting at stake the consumer health. This is a downfall for the Italian image that before the multinationals entered the market was known for their high quality goods and the reputation in the field. The Italian agriculture business has to deal with the Food Piracy. Six million euro per hour that s the amount of the made in Italy turnover loss; as it is reported by Confagricoltura (organization of representation and guardianship of the Italian agricultural enterprise.) A loss caused by the so called Italian sounding whose images, names and colors imitate the Italian products, but actually those products have nothing to do with the original made in Italy quality, culture and traditions. Of course, it is a rip off for the consumer that is easily lured, especially if the consumer is not aware of the differences between the Made in Italy and Product of Italy or Packed in Italy labels. How it is sustainable and how it benefits the ecosystems of the world. In addition, the author will discuss improved grazing and cropping methods that grow and protect rather than deplete topsoil, in the process sequestering carbon, increasing water retention capacity... and creating wildlife habitat (Hewitt, 2017). Regenerative agriculture is about guaranteeing a fair distribution of equity. A reasonable livelihood for farmers as well as farm workers. It is restoring vibrant rural communities and eliminating policies that no longer incentivize the degradation of the land and the consolidation of wealth and political power (Hewitt, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Most people are not aware of the journey animals make from birth to table. As well as how what they are fed impacts us as omnivores, the soil as well as the animal themselves. In addition to the monetary and environmental cost of providing feed, transporting the animal, carcass and all. If we truly understood where our food is produced, how and what is fed to them, how much is produced, what is used to ensure plentiful crops and how it eventually affects our health as well as our ecosystem, we wouldn t want to eat it. Michael Pollan takes us on that journey in his book An Omnivore s Dilemma where he explains how animals in feedlots, are subject to eating grain, (i.e. corn) pumped with antibiotics as opposed to their natural diet of grass, in order to increase their size. A practice endorsed by the United States Department of Agriculture. It is incredulous that we as a nation have given power to food companies and politicians, the power to tell us what to eat, often with only their profit s (rather than our health) in mind. Pollan also suggests that many of the nutritional and health problems facing America today can be traced back to the farms that grow our food (and the government policies that dictate what happens on those farms) ... It brings her back to the time when she was sixteen and working at a counter with her mother. Her mother had taught her the tricks of being a well tipped waitress while serving to a variety of customers. The waitresses each played a game where they would guess the tip their customer would give before ordering. The Yankees have a belief that all Southerners fit their stereotypical role, so the narrator plays up her charm for them to make them believe as if they were right. She knows that the Yankees have a certain perception of people down south and uses that against them to get exactly what she wants from them. The short story s point of view is told in first person by the narrator. I m Working on My Charm is told by a daughter who learns and exercises the advantages of the southern charm. It made her heavy bosom move dramatically, and I remembered times I d seen her do that at the counter. It made me feel even more embarrassed and angry, the narrator stated. In the quote, it shows that the narrator is uncomfortable with the way the waitresses interact with customers just for tips. She doesn t think it is fair to compromise her dignity, but still does it to make her money. By the point of view being told in first person, the reader is able to read the thoughts of the character to understand their feelings. The setting takes place in two opposite places. One took place in 1966 at a counter back of a Moses Drugstore planted in the middle of a Highway 50 shopping mall, and the other was years later at a party for the narrator s job located in the North. At that time, segregation had ended which influenced the thoughts people had on the South. People from Northern states believed everyone from the South didn t have any education. ... The texts I will include which are evident of manipulation are Shutter Island a visual thriller directed by Martin Scorsese, Inception a visual action, adventure conducted by Christopher Nolan, Twelfth Night written by William Shakespeare, and Tell Tale Heart produced by Edgar Allan Poe. I decided to choose texts that are recognized for their brilliance. Both visual and written texts are contrasted in relation to time, the visual texts are of modern era whereas the written texts are of a previous generation. The audience is able to understand that Daniels has accepted his reality, making him the good man . A common theme today is not accepting reality or being in denial, this is due to the way denying the reality of something enables the body to cope (bodies defence mechanism1). The character of Daniels helps to influence today s society by showing us that accepting the reality we create is better than to regret or deny it. Thus, changing the way, we perceive reality. In the film Inception , Nolan influences the audience to connect to the character of Dominic Cobb. Like Shutter Island the character (Cobb) in this film is also revolved around. Nolan uses a theme evident in today s society, the perception of reality to develop and connect the portrayal of Cobb and connect the audience. In terms of Cobb, this theme can be translated to his internal conflict of dreams versus reality. Nolan inflects an emotional connection to Cobb and the audience through this internal conflict. A ...
