Tay-Sachs Syndrome
Some of the general symptoms of the disease can be characterized by hind limb spasticity, weight loss,
tremors, abnormal posture with lordosis, and possibility of visual impairment. Muscle weakness,
clasping of the limbs, and myoclonic twitches of the head that can be onset late in the disease.
Research of the GM2 ganglioside has revealed that storage of the fatty substance varies a large
Tay Sachs Disease2 amount in different regions, but the majority resides in the pyriform cortex,
hippocampus (CA3 field, subiculum), amygdala, hypothalamus (paraventricular supraoptic,
ventromedial and arcuate nuclei, and mammillary body), and the somatosensory cortex (layer V).

There are multiple treatment options including medication, respiratory care, feeding tubes and
physical therapy. Some medications are available and can help with seizures. Both respiratory care
and feeding tubes help to avoid infections of the lungs. Breathing problems and mucus build up are
common symptoms of Tay Sachs. Physical therapy is very
Tay Sachs Disease3 effective at keeping movement within the joints possible and helps to relieve
stiffness of the patients ( Tay Sachs disease , 2016). There are a few experimental treatments
developing. The first is Tay Sachs Gene Therapy, this treatment includes introducing genes into
diseased cells to try and correcting the mutations such as lysosomal defects (Cachon Gonzlez, et al.,
226. Effective Gene Therapy in an Authentic Mouse Model of Tay Sachs Related Diseases , 2006).
Cross correction mechanism is the proposed mechanism of action.

Age Related Macular Degeneration ( Amd )
Age related macular degeneration (AMD) is a clinical condition in which there is a progressive
decrease in central vision. There are two forms of macular degeneration, dry/nonexudative and
wet/exudative, and these differ in fundal findings and treatment options. Dry macular degeneration is
due to accumulation of drusen between the retinal pigment epithelium and Bruch s membrane and
eventually progresses to geographic atrophy. Geographic atrophy refers to loss of retinal pigment
epithelium (RPE) and photoreceptors. Wet macular degeneration, comprising up to 80% of cases of
macular degeneration, is due to neovascularization forming choroidal neovascular membranes, which
are unstable vessels leading to an array of complications including ... Show more content on

One important direction of research was the association drawn between complement Factor H and
macular degeneration, which proposed that macular degeneration could be considered a much broader
systemic vascular disease. Factor H is a glycoprotein that aids in the inhibiting the activation of the
alternate pathway to prevent the host from activating the immune response towards self antigens. The
association between factor H and macular degeneration is so great that a homozygous single
nucleotide polymorphism (SNP) can increase the risk of developing age related macular degeneration
by seven fold and even a heterozygous SNP can increase the risk two to three fold. Furthermore,
deletions in the genes for complement factor H related 1 and 3, which compete with factor H for
binding sites, have been demonstrated to protect against age related macular degeneration by
increasing the amount of binding sites available for complement factor H to bind to the vasculature.
Factor H has even been shown to be actively synthesized by the RPE; gene products were generated
from cultured RPE and real time RT PCR established that transcripts for factor H were abundant in the
RPE. The association is even clearer when clinically examining patients with Membranoproliferative
Glomerulonephritis II in which there is a deficiency in factor H. These patients develop early onset
drusen on fundal examination. Most importantly, the association found between factor H and AMD

In 1941, the United States had just been coming out of the Great Depression. This was a major turning
point for the United States. As the United States was coming out of the Great Depression, World War
two had started. Since World War two had just started, the Americans had suffered even more
hardships. World War two started in 1939 and ended in 1945. The United States entered the war in
1941 because of the surprise attack on Pearl Harbor. World War two was the deadliest war to happen
to this date. During this time period, the Holocaust was occurring. During the Holocaust, many Jews
were totally annihilated with some other minor groups. Adolf Hitler had risen to power and became
dictator of Germany. About six million Jews had died during this time period. The Germans
surrendered on May 8, 1945. In total there was about 64 million deaths all across the world during this
war. These deaths include both military, but also just civilians. Many Jews and other groups of people
like homosexuals, gypsies, and the disabled were sent to concentration camps. At these camps they
were put to hard work, burned, beaten, raped, and also gassed to

Australia And Japan Case Study
a) The Australian government has many objectives in trading with Japan; external stability, sustainable
economic growth, etc. Australia may gain external stability as in recent; the Japanese economy had
been facing challenges over its energy policy, as well as other external risks. Australia is a major
beneficiary of that issue as the Japanese government is encouraging firms to help assure energy and
commodity supplies through increased investment in overseas natural resources. A sustainable
economic growth may also be gained through trading with Japan.
b) As Australia and Japan hold a very close relationship in terms of economically and is fundamentally
important to each other, there are many economic benefits to consumers, businesses, workers

A La Carte By Web Based Services Essay
Nowadays, budget conscious customers look at ways to avoid paying for expensive bundles cable TV
offers. They prefer to choose a la carte programming offered by web based services. A la carte
approach to programming enables the subscribers to pay for only the channels they really want to
watch. Several companies including Verizon, Walt Disney and Viacom provide their customers with
content they are interested in without the need of paying for channels they are not willing to watch. No
wonder there is a lot of competition between the largest operators in the wireless and cable industry
like Verizon, Dish and Comcast.
In 2014 Verizon Communication chief, Lowell McAdam, said that Web and mobile devices require a
different approach than traditional cable. He stated that Web and mobile users don t desire to have
hundreds of channels on their wireless device (Albanesius, 2014). Verizon looks into the future and
understands the need of implementing changes and satisfying customers. The company wants to move
in the right direction and allow their customers to have more control over the programming.
Dish is another company that has made their services more attractive to their customers. The company
strives to increase the value of their products and services. Dish offers live local broadcast and
channels like ABC Family or ESPN over mobile devices and set top box. Dish s customers are now
able to access Disney s Watch ESPN or Watch ABC Family apps making it possible to view live

Aquifer In Texas
An aquifer is a permeable rock underground that bears water, this water can be collected through wells
for people to use and drink. Within Texas there are 23 different aquifers, but for Central Texas we tend
to favor Edwards Aquifer and due to this many problems have arisen for the aquifer and its
inhabitants. We will first discuss the history of Edwards Aquifer, the reasons behind the current issue
concerning the aquifer including what species are endangered and why, and lastly what solutions are
being set forth.
As early as the 18th century and possibly even before then, Edwards Aquifer was used as a place
marker and for domestic human use. Native American tribes including Comanche, Apache, and
Tonkawa had been living beside the spring fed ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
By plans of their cities, I mean where they might expand next or if they want to increase the pumping
of water in the area from Edwards Aquifer. What many people do not know is that the species in
Edwards Aquifer are beneficial to them from their roles in the environment. Each animal has a role
that when put together will all the other roles in the ecosystem, it creates equilibrium and gives the
aquifer the potential to survive. With these species gradually coming closer to extinction, an
imbalance is created in the ecosystem that allows for the possibility of other species to thrive that
might harm the aquifer. If the situation were to continue as it has been, then we will lose the beneficial
animals, the aquifer, and would have to deal with the problem of the new species and of finding a new
water source. In the end, no one would win, everyone would be a lost and then pressure would
possibly be put on another aquifer and then the same problem could

Destiny Of The Republic Analysis
Destiny of the Republic was a story of the life and death of James A. Garfield. It was told in the
viewpoints of many different characters throughout the story but mainly in the viewpoint of James
Garfield, Charles Guiteau, and Alexander Graham Bell. Garfield was the 20th president of the United
States. His presidency was cut short when he was assassinated by Guiteau, and later Bell attempted to
Garfield make a recovery to continue his presidency. James Garfield was born into poverty on
November 19, 1831, in a log cabin in Ohio. Eliza, James s mother, wanted nothing more than a good
education for her son and he went to school for a while but then left to work at the canals in honor of
his father. He had a close call with death one late night when he almost drowned, this gave him the
realization that god had saved him for something greater than working on a canal. He went on to get a
better education and became a passionate and determined student. To pay for tuition Garfield worked
as a janitor and was later moved up to assistant professor. He wanted to be the top in his class. He was
accepted into Williams college an was one of the top five in his class. He graduated with honors and
returned to the Eclectic Institute where he became the school s president. Shortly after he married
Lucretia Rudolph and would later have six children. Ending his career in academics Garfield ran for
senator in 1859. About a year later James joined the Union in the Civil war. He was made a

The American Dream Of Home Ownership
Too many Americans have fallen victim to the crisis that has become the norm for our citizens these
days. Lenders no longer want to work with individuals who have gone through the foreclosure process
and for many it is not only their homes they lose. Some have lost their jobs and/or families, others fall
into a deep depression and worst of all some have taken their own lives. An alternative would be for
lenders to add a true customer service department which is not based on pay or get out, but is
counseling based to keep Americans in the American Dream of home ownership. This would not only
keep their customers for future business with new home loans, but would be noticed by neighbors and
the community who are appreciative their home values are not decreasing. The lenders would counsel
them through the sale by assisting them with getting the most they can for their home. By getting local
community organizations involved to help with home repairs and curb appeal. Once the home is
market ready and a dollar amount has been reached for these repairs the home owner will have to
volunteer time and/or resources to assist another person going through the same situation. This would
not only help the homeowner but will keep homes in the area selling at a fair market value and not
bring down the values in their neighborhood. The assistance provided by the lenders and assistance
from the community will help build their self confidence and make them feel like they are not alone.

varied.
amp;#9;In addition to being an exceptional comedienne, Ball was a superb businesswoman. While she
was married to Desi Arnaz, she and Arnaz bought out RKO radio station, and changed its name to
Desilu. After she and Arnaz divorced, Lucy bought all of his shares of Desilu (Moritz 34). This was
very uncommon for women to do at this time. It was very rare that women even had any say about
what was going on. This proved her strength as a woman. When she was ready to sell Desilu, Ball
made a handsome profit from selling the company for $17,000,000 to Gulf amp;amp; Western in
1967. Obviously she knew what she was doing. In fact, Gloria Steinem said, quot;I admire her as a
business woman. You know, she really seemed to control her entire professional life and was very,
very smart quot; (100 Years of Great Women). She was certainly a brilliant businesswoman.
amp;#9;Because of her unbelievable talent as an actress, comedienne, woman, and person in general,
Lucille Ball has become a role model for many people. Among these people are Rosie O Donnell,
Carol Burnett, and Bette Midler. In fact, Rosie O Donnell said, quot;Lucille Ball paved the way for

The Current Generation Research Paper
Millions of people use the Internet for a copious amount of reasons. Almost anything one could think
to name; the Internet is sure to have it. It is probably the largest current source of entertainment with
everything from music to movies to current television series episodes. The Internet also has the most
up to date pool of current events from anywhere around the world. While news and entertainment are
of huge importance to the world, in the eyes of a student the most important use of the Internet is the
website Google. Simply said, Google makes anything and everything that is on the Internet available
to public users. This is tremendously valuable for students at all levels. How could this be a negative
thing? Nicholas Carr, author of the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
From what we choose to eat to what we choose to wear, it has some effect on us. Every day, millions
of people willingly choose to get on the Internet. Carr even states that he has been spending a lot of
time online, searching and surfing and sometimes adding to the great databases of the Internet over the
past decade (Carr, 634). This raises the question: why would you partake in something that you feel is
lessening your ability? There is no simple answer to this question. One may say that they need the
Internet for research, but there are many other ways to research. However, the Internet is the easiest
and fastest way to research today. This much is already known; even Carr agrees that the Internet is a
godsend and that research that once required days can be done in mere minutes (Carr, 634). This
brings to the surface the want to use the Internet. Somewhere, no matter how deep down it is, there is
a piece of every single person that wants to take the easy route. This incessant want to make things
easier is the sole purpose of Google. According to Carr, Google is attempting to create an artificial
intelligence that is similar to a HAL like machine that could be connected directly to our brains which
is an allusion to the science fiction movie 2001: A Space Odyssey (Carr, 639). Carr seems to believe
that as we come to rely on computers, that we will be lesser than the machines that we create, much

Partnerships are usually inexpensive and easy to form. II. General partners have unlimited liability for
all debts. The general partnership is terminated when a general partner dies or withdraws. It is difficult
for a partnership to transfer ownership without dissolving. The advantage is the cost of getting started.
The disadvantages are: 1) unlimited liability, 2) limited life of the enterprise, and 3) difficulty of
transferring ownership. These three disadvantages lead to 4) the difficulty of raising cash. 5. the
corporation: limited liability, ease of ownership transfer, and perpetual succession are the major
advantages; Disadvantage: government taxes corporate income. 6. agency costs: the cost of resolving

concluded that managers are influenced by two basic motivations: I. survival. II. Independence and
self sufficiency: this is the freedom to make decisions without encountering external parties or
depending on outside financial markets. The Donaldson interviews suggested that managers do not

Arc Of Justice Analysis
Arc of Justice is a story of the hardships of segregation fueled by ignorance in the 1920 s. The
beginning introduces the reader into the setting of Detroit reaching its industrial peak. It then
chronicles Ossian Sweet, an African American physician. Him and his wife, Gladys, purchased a
house in a white neighborhood in hopes of a better future and a successful family. Instead, they
quickly received many threats and felt unsteady, the neighbors rejected all African American s in their
society. Raised in the South, Ossian Sweet had seen what prejudice can do to a society. Although he
attempted to escape from it, he finds himself staring racism right in the face. For a book published 80
years after the fact, Kevin Boyle does a very impressive ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
During that time Johnson was the general secretary of the NAACP, and knew what impact the case
would have on civil rights. Given this the NAACP aided those accused of the murder of Breiner, and a
first rate defense team was in the making. Assistant secretary Walter White was the main assistant of
NAACP to find the best attorneys (who were not prejudiced, of course). He later meets Arthur
Garfield Hays and Clarence Darrow and urges them to take the case. After agreeing they meet their
clients about a month after the accident. Boyle shows how both James Weldon Johnson and Clarence
Darrow had interior motives for defending the Sweets. Both men had a love for the spotlight, when
speaking about Darrow, Boyle writes in the glare of a high profile case he found the perfect
opportunity to attack the status quo and proclaim the modernist creed. The trial itself felt more of a
civil rights case than a criminal case. The most impressive thing in regards to the actual trial was the
performance done by Darrow. One could draw many similarities between him and To Kill A
Mockingbird s Atticus Finch. A common misconception of the courtroom is that the jury goes strictly
off of evidence when deliberating. This book clears up that false belief with the attorneys playing off
of emotion and targeting pathos. A strong argument presented by Darrow can be summarized by a few
statements he made in that courtroom. You are facing a problem of two races, a problem that will take
centuries to solve. If I felt none of you were prejudiced, I d have no fear. I want you to be as

The Fantasy Story
Today I #8217;d like to tell you about fantasy literature. It is very hard to tell all about it but I #8217;ll
try to do it as good as possible and not being boring. First fantasy motifs were shown in romanticism.
We all know the mystical and unreal characters: ghosts, phantoms etc. Authors for building the special
mood and charm of that epoch used that figures.
But fantasy is something more than romantic ways of showing nature or inner experiences of the main
character in the novel. It #8217;s also not an attempt of explaining the unreal and difficult to
understand visions or event. In the course of time it began to live it #8217;s own life more and more
the writers started to use these motifs. And what had happened? They created ... Show more content

But one day, after many happy years on the throne, they got lost in a forest. While walking the trees
became coats and they suddenly fell out of the closet. Long years in Narnia were just few minutes in
the human world. Children have big imagination so crossing the line between fantasies and real is not
a problem, but it is a big challenge for readers. Lewis created the magic land and as he once said:
#8221;even if all of that is imagined #8211; trees, grass, sun, moon, stars and Aslan, there is no doubt:
this imagined world is much better then the real one #8221;. The next kinds, beloved by fantasy fans
are #8220;never lands #8221;. They are perfectly defined by one of first never lands creators Lord
Dunsany. He named it as places #8220;beyond the fields we know #8221;. And we are really crossing
the line of human perception. Authors don #8217;t blink their eye, don #8217;t pretend like in the
Venice carnival. Not everything is from the beginning land of fantasy. Tolkien made never lands legal,
gave them autonomy and independence, full rights in authors imagination. He said that artistic
imagination has no borders and cannot be restricted by what is real. We can see what we want to see,
also the land of never. Never lands can use the cultural heritage of our world, but it all depends on the
author. Of course playing in never lands must be based on understanding and agreement between
writer and reader, we have to accept all the rules and it

Taking Back The Vote
For a nation to truly develop everybody should participate in voting. If everyone will vote then the
elected representative will be someone who will represent the believes and values of everyone or at
least the majority. In that way, when the representative will do something for the nation, everyone will
be able to be benefited from it. However, it is a harsh reality of our society that young people vote at
lower rates than other age groups. There are a lot of reasons for that, for example, I think most young
people are not interested enough in what the politicians are claiming to in their campaign. Most
politician talks about health care, better economy, and external relations. These topics do not seem
interesting to young people because in most cases they have not been in a situations where they
needed any of those, for example, in most cases senior people need health care, middle age group need
to worry about the economy because they need to feed their kids, and authorities need to worry about
external affairs. Hence, young people end up not voting because their issues are not being discussed in
the election campaign. According to Jane Eisner s book Taking Back the Vote, it is two processes. In
one side, young people do not vote because their issues are not discussed in the election campaigns,
and on another side, the politicians ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Stages Of Grief
Sooner or later, everyone will experience loss; it s an inevitable part of life. Whether it s losing a
relationship, a job, or even more tragic a loved one, no one can escape it. A very important part of
bearing with a loss is grieving. There are five stages in which grief can be categorized in: denial,
anger, bargaining, depression, and finally acceptance. In Seamus Heaney s Mid term Break , and the
narrator and his family bear with the loss of a loved one. In Sylvia Path s The Jailer the narrator goes
through the painful and significant loss of her marriage. In both poems the characters affected by the
loss of something important to them and go through the stages of grief differently, proving, that grief
is unique for every person.

The narrator starts his grieving path in denial. The narrator states I sat all morning in the college sick
bay giving the description of him sitting all morning in doing nothing at all (line 1). He was not
crying, he was not talking to anyone he just sat there staring into the air. Another detail that shows that
the narrator is in denial is when he states the ambulance arrived / with the corpse (14 15). It is a very
cold thing to say because it s his little brother in the ambulance not just a strange, and he just refers to
him as a corpse. Further explaining that he is in denial because he cannot believe it s his brother. The
father in the poem is one of the best examples of how everyone deals with grief in a different way. The
narrator explains that as soon as he got home he saw his father in tears and how strange it was for his
father to cry especially in funerals. The narrator then states, [My father] had always taken funerals in
his stride meaning that funerals never really bothered his father (5). The way the narrator s mother
reacts to the death of her four year old son, further supports the fact that everyone grieves differently.
When the narrator introduces his mother in the poem he states, [She] coughed out angry tearless sighs
(13). In the contrary from the narrator s father, the narrator s mother is not even shedding a tear.
Which makes it very obvious that her first step in grieving was

On July 27, 2002 a fifteen year old Canadian citizen Omar Khadr was captured by US forces in
Afghanistan. Khadr was captured for the murder of unarmed medic Christopher Speer. The US had
held Khadr for a period of ten years (from 2002 2012). During this time, Canada did not fulfill its
obligation to protect Omar Khadr and his rights. Canada failed to protect Khadr and his rights during
three instances: Firstly, during the rough interrogation that involved various types of torture Canada
did not speak up for Khadr nor did they fight for his rights. Secondly, Canada did not request for the
right of Extradition when Khadr was captured, instead letting the US hold him for ten years. Lastly,

pressure on the US to release extradite the prisoners back to their home countries. Canada had not
asked nor demanded for this, it seems as though Canada was supporting the US s treatment of Khadr.
Canada had to take back Khadr once it was publicized that he was being tortured almost every day. In
addition to this, Prime Minister Stephen Harper had confidence that the US military would try Khadr
in a fair manner, but obviously he was wrong as Khadr was forced to sign an unfair plea that would
basically force him into Canada. Dennis Edney Khadr s former lawyer states He has fought for close
to eight years to get a pair of protective glasses to preserve the amount of sight remaining in Omar s
one eye with vision. He received them in November of last year. That is the extent of the help Omar
has received from the Canadian government, they can t even get him a pair of glasses. (Edney 5).
Khadr was going blind in Guantanamo and requested a pair of glasses for eight years. Canada did not
comply and didn t even speak to Guantanamo about getting Khadr glasses; instead, they let the US
treat the Canadian citizen very harshly and not even provide him with a pair of glasses. Canada did not
care about Khadr instead they just let the US deal with him unfairly. Canada should have been more
involved in the treatment of Khadr and should not have supported the US while they were violating
Khadr. Unlike the other countries such Britain and Australia Canada did not pressure the US to
extradite Khadr. In addition to this, they stood by the US s strong torture methods due to the fact that
Canada did not speak up when Khadr was sent to Guantanamo, even though Guantanamo was famous
for torturing its prisoners.

My favorite book is Halo: The Fall Of Reach written by Eric Nylund. The book was published
October 30,2001. The book is based off of my favorite, and one of the most profitable games in the
video game market called Halo. In the Story, Halo The Fall of Reach, it begins with the Glassing of a
Planet. Glassing in halo means the destruction, or Ending, of a planet. The plot is the main character
called Master Chief, also know as Petty Officer Sierra 117, trying to save the planet called Reach. The
planet is under attack by the Covenant, which is a group of alien species that created an empire. The
glassing of the planet is the start of the Spartan 2 super soldier program. This program was in response
to trying to stop invasions from the aliens. The story includes many battles and losses for both sides.

Romeo And Juliet Vs Pyramus And Hebe
Romeo and Juliet VS. Pyramus and Thisbe Compare and Contrast Essay It is not too often that we
find a story about two teenagers in love taking their own lives. It is even less common to find two
stories of in love teenagers taking their own lives. The story of Pyramus and Thisbe, written by Ovid,
and Shakespeare s The Tragedy of Romeo and Juliet, are almost mirror images. These stories are
different yet, have the similar events, similar difficulty getting to each other, and the same tragic
misunderstanding that led to a miserable end. These two stories should be considered the twins of
literature. Romeo and Juliet. They had met at a party and spoke to one another through a window,
contrary to the other story, proceeding to marry hours later. Star crossed lovers fighting to be together,
literally. Romeo killed the cousin of his wife, which resulted in banishment and being further away
from Juliet. They already lived on opposite sides of their city, Verona, and now Romeo was exiled

They grew up in a city named Babylon, and lived near one another, unlike Romeo and Juliet. In fact,
they lived so close to each other that their homes shared a common wall. This wall was their only
form of communication. Going against their parents wishes, they approached a tomb to meet by.
Thisbe was awaiting her love when a bloody mouthed lion lurked upon the area. She fled and dropped
her cloak, which the lion proceeded to tear up. When Pyramus arrived he killed himself at the sight of
the bloody remains of Thisbe. Before him lay the bloodstain shreds of the cloak and clear in the dust
were the tracks of the lioness. The conclusion was inevitable (Ovid 488). Unlike Romeo, Pyramus
used his sword to commit suicide. The storylines of the two are similar. However, where they lived,
and how the boys killed themselves were different. Finally the cause of both teen deaths was at the

The Pros And Cons Of The Northern Ireland Assembly
The Northern Ireland Assembly should be made up of 108 members being elected from 18
constituencies and having both an elected First Minister as well as a Deputy First Minister. While
most issues are resolved via a common majority it is possible for members to subscribe a petition of
concern which will lead to a decision being made via both a Unionist and a Nationalist assembly
members majority. In addition to those, the assembly can decide on the legislation in Northern Ireland
as long as it is within the limitations set by London. Furthermore, a Civic Forum should be introduced
to deal with social, economic and cultural matters. Ultimately, the principles of non violence and
democracy must be upheld by all members.

The First Restoration Continues
During 1963 and 1964 summers, restoration work continued at the island. Dad hired Ronald Shutler
and Jon Short to work on the house in 1963. Jon only worked for us that one summer whereas Ronald
assumed caretaker duties through 1967 when he returned to farming. Ronald had grown up on a farm
in nearby Hammond, and like many young men who grew up on farms, he was a tireless worker who
possessed the desirable trait of staying on task.
I have a photograph showing Ron and Jon painting the front steps while a pair of neighbors and my
sisters are painting the lattice. I recognized the date of this painting party as August 17, 1963. Dad
makes reference to this event in his diary. It was the same day Dad and Mom s hosted their second
annual cocktail party.
Ron and Jon came to work while I was at summer school near Lake Chocorua, New Hampshire. I fell
victim to the sophomore slump, and consequently needed to make up a couple of courses in a six week
session at the High House venue. When I returned, I learned Jon had taken on the assignment of
painting the tower by default.
I asked Ron, Why aren t you doing some of the tower painting too?
I m tending the ropes for the boson chair and when Jon drops a brush like he did yesterday, I lower a
new brush to him. He also sends the empty paint can up to me when he needs a refill.
Couldn t you get the job done quicker if you both painted? I asked.
Probably, but I developed a overwhelming fear of heights after I fell thirty feet

The Positive Effect Of Dietary Chromium On Blood Glucose...
The Positive Effect of Dietary Chromium on Blood Glucose Levels
There are multiple studies on the effects that chromium may have on blood glucose levels in diabetic
patients. Some research journals below insist on a significant change that was observed in blood
glucose levels and in overall insulin sensitivity of the cells. There are two journals researching the
effects of a chromium supplement on glucose, the first one including type 2 diabetics. The third
research journal is a study of chromium deficiencies and whether or not that is a significant factor in
pre diabetes. I think it s key to know the findings of the deficiencies, as it would help us conclude
whether or not the addition of chromium to a diet would be beneficial in preventing or controlling
diabetes. Furthermore, Analyzing the methods of these journals will help to conclude whether or not
this information is reliable. I personally have been affected by type 1 diabetes, which is why I decided
to research this topic in more detail, to figure out if chromium will truly affect my blood glucose. In a
2006 research article, Martin and her associates go into depth about their double blind, randomized,
placebo controlled study that was done on thirty two subjects with type 2 diabetes. They have
concluded that there was an increase in insulin sensitivity and an improvement in glycemic control
over a 10 month period. I would prefer that this study included much more subjects for this topic, in

Japanese Immigration Research Paper
The focus of this personal reflection paper is to share my discoveries about what I expected to find in
class and what actually happened. It is to show that despite my preconceived notions of what
immigration entails, immigration is not only to the United States. Additionally, it is to show that one
perspective in immigration debates in the US does not confer a standard of dialogue in an immigration
debate outside the US. I suppose that since we are all immigrants, since I am an immigrant, I imagined
that we our experiences sometimes the same or similar. My thoughts after reading on Japanese

What I learn from reading about immigration in Japan is that those of Japanese descent fromm Brazil,

Throughout the entire world, music is one thing that is a constant. From Africa to Antarctica, music
can be found. There are literally millions of types of music out there: Rock, Rap, Pop, EMO, Hard
core, Ska, Latin, Classical. The list goes on and on. But one form of music has had one of the most
significant histories of them all: Punk rock. A look into the history of this type of music will help us
understand why punk rock sounds and feels the way it does. It is necessary to look at the types of
dancing, different types of punk rock, and the reasons behind it to understand how and why this type
of music formed.

The Last Day of Humanity
Prologue Purpose. The very word seems to carry with it the weight of progress, of advancement, of
humanity. It is the fire that has burned in man s heart since the dawn of civilization; a cunning
tactician smiling to himself as humanity wins its battles. Purpose has driven us from the first fire to the
final frontier; it is the father of civilization. Humanity advanced, quickly. With basic survival and a
functioning society fulfilled, civilization sped up. Distances became shorter, entertainment became
quicker, and life became busy. With life moving quickly, man lost time to think. And without thought
to fuel it, purpose became sparse and unfulfilled. Mankind, in their vanity, began to attempt to
eradicate the need for purpose. Society became shallow. It pressed upon its youth, its future, mindless
norms disguised as purpose. College, careers, and retirements were laid out ahead of them, whereupon
the latest generation began to goose step into misery. Before long, midlife crises began to arise at ages
as early as 16, a harrowing thought. Absent among all this anguish was purpose; 401(k) s would not
bring meaning to one s life, nor would a management level position in a startup on the rise. Life was
no longer about the means, but rather the ends. Consequently, joy became not an experience, but a
material. A product, bought and sold in numerous markets, manufactured and pumped out of factories.
Amongst this fiasco, we find a character. Lost in the darkness, he wanders,

Different Methods Of Collaboration
Activities: An activity represents the performance of some behavior in the workflow. Transitions:
Transitions are used to show the passing of the flow of control from activity to activity. They are
typically triggered by the completion of the behavior in the originating activity. Decision points: When
modeling the workflow of a system it is often necessary to show where the flow of control branches
based on a decision point. The transitions from a decision point contain a guard condition, which is
used to determine which path from the decision point is taken. Decisions along with their guard

Sociology In Sociology
Social structure and social interaction are based on two levels of analysis: Macrosociology and
microsociology. Macrosociology, like its name describes, is focused on the broad view of society and
how it studies society s behavior. Theorists can analyze and distinguish the different social classes and
groups in society. Microsociology is focused on social interaction, how people react and what they do
when they are together. Theorists can examine people s behaviors and how they communicate to one
another. Both can be used to understand society and society s social life. Macrosociology. In Belize,
teachers and lectures tend to be more comfortable around their students. In the United States, students
will probably not encounter their professors out late at night in a club. In Belize, however, it not
uncommon to see a lecturer out drinking in the club. This is our social structure. It common to see
your teacher drinking as common as it is to not be surprised by it. In the Cayo district of Belize, it is
polite to say the time of day to your elder. In the Belize district, people walk past each other without
saying a word. The social structure is the behavior that people in our society deem acceptable or a
norm. A social class is a large number of people that have similar income, education, and/or career.
Looking at class, really broadens the view of society and how divided it is. Whether it is a small or

In the traditional education environments, the duty of the students is to adhere the education activities
as a passive receiver and memorize the content of the lesson (Surmeli 2007: 30). PowerPoint
presentations create more powerful sensory alerts when compared with the traditional education
materials (blackboard, overhead projections, etc.)While giving the lessons with PowerPoint
presentations, the content of the lesson stays the same, but the form of transmitting the lesson to the
student changes. The PowerPoint presentations which are prepared for lessons have the advantages
such as having strong colors, gradual building of text, simple animation of diagrams, facilities for
simple editing and updating (Lowry 1999:19). Thus it can be mentioned that the PowerPoint

Causes Of Racism In America
The United States of America is a country that was built on the very principles of liberty, freedom, and
prosperity, as well as discrimination and racism. Thomas Paine, a prominent English writer who
supported the American Revolution, argued that America was among the best nations in the entire
world. He believed that the government was completely fair, that tolerance existed in all parts of the
country, and that America was the land of diversity. His claims, although seemingly positive, are not
completely consistent with the history nor status of this nation today. The tolerance and freedom in
this country was achieved at a very high cost. Although America is a democracy and its citizens are
widely diverse, it is also a place of bigotry and political unsettlement. Despite the fact that America
has made significant progress towards tolerance and acceptance, this country still today struggles with
politics and has unresolved issues with the government.
Racism has been a drag within the us of America for a protracted time, qualitative analysis back to

Gender Issues Of Danish Sports Organizations
In Gertrud Pfister s article, Gender Issues in Danish Sports Organizations Experiences, Attitudes and
Evaluations, there is a discussion as to whether women are indeed treated differently in higher
positions of power in Denmark. Pfister uses statistics and studies to prove her argument that women
are indeed treated differently and presented differently in the organizations. She even begins to touch
on the fact that men and women are portrayed wrongly in the studies she talks about. Throughout the
article women are presented in a mann that suggests they could not possibly be an ideal leader in the
ways that men can nor can they deal with responsibilities of such a job.
Pfister makes Denmark s position on women being equal to men and deserving of the same
opportunities as them known but adds that they re still under represented (27).Women are free to join
the same workforces as men and partake in the same activities as men but how they are treated within
these occupations is what she finds compelling. Pfister aims to identify reasons for the existing gender
hierarchy (27) and accomplishes this by using the results of quantitive surveys on Danish sports
leaders performed by herself, her peers and those who have wished to investigate this topic as well.
We as readers can see for ourselves that throughout the world the power appears to be in the hands of
men (27). For example, how many world leaders do we see that are of the female sex? According to

Questions On The And Law
When deliberating upon legal quandaries law students and attorneys engage upon a five component
process to scrutinize all the dynamics of a legal premise(s). Litigators and law students denote this
process as IRAC (Issue, Rule, Application, and Conclusion). Therefore, IRAC is simply the blueprint
for analyzing a legal dispute. While legal dilemmas can become tedious, time consuming,
overwhelming, and extremely complex, IRAC methodology can make the process somewhat easier.
Hence, IRAC process forces the litigator to apply critical thinking (Metzler, 2003). Furthermore,
Metzler states, the litigator must have a comprehensive understanding of the following: Issue What is
the central question regarding the tort? Is this a civil or lawsuit? Rule What law(s) govern the issue at
hand? The litigator must research many laws to determine which case or cases apply to a particular
case. The litigator will also determine which rule(s) is better suited for the special case. Application
How does the rule apply to the case? Understanding how the rule applies to the case may allow the
litigator to predict the outcome of litigation. Conclusion Provides the answer to the issue statement.
When a litigator uses the IRAC tool, he or she will become better prepared to represent adequately
either civil or lawsuit dilemma(s). The IRAC Method The IRAC method is a tool that is used in the
legal profession to compose an analysis of a legal case that is being studied and is the

Disadvantages Of Food Indonalds
To keep up with competitors, food retailers are adding restaurants and carryouts to their stores.
Installing restaurants within stores adds convenience for consumers, offering no frills brands to
compete with nationally advertised brands, providing economy family packs to compete with food
clubs, operating fast checkouts lanes, and providing banking within the stores, to prevent them from
coming off as monopolistic. Consumers want to shop at stores that are easier for them. By adding
restaurants to stores, consumers may say that buying food from those restaurants may seem easier than
going home to cook a meal with the food items they just bought. As the saying goes, never go to the
store hungry because having restaurants within a store will attract more customers because they are
hungry while they are shopping. Food retailers want their stores to seem more convenient and better
for shoppers, that they must find ways to draw more customers in and by adding in store restaurants
and carryouts they can do so.
Instead of going to different stores because of the different prices, customers are going to pay for
items no matter the price, so they do not have to travel to another store. If the store offers those
products, then customers will buy the items instead because it is more convenient. Even though the
price of one item may be cheaper at another store, customers are still going to put the item in the
basket because they do not want to have to get out at another store just for

Drug Court Reflection
When I came into Drug Court, I was lost and confused. I thought it was a joke and I thought I could
keep doing what I wanted to do. I thought the Judge and everyone on the team was just out to get me.
I didn t know who I was because I built my life on lies. I never aspired to anything great. Being in
Drug Court this long has shown me that the Judge and the Drug Court team really do care about each
and every one of us personally. I can see that the Drug Court team cares and always has time for me
no matter what, to give me so much encouragement. It wasn t until I was in Drug Court that my life
changed and I believe that I was headed for a prison sentence which that didn t matter to me at the
time. Drug Court showed that they believe in us, that we are okay, and they really do care about us to
take the time to help us. It has taught me to be more of a responsible person. Going to jail was
honestly one of the best things that ever happened to me and I needed to be in there. I no longer
wanted to be everyone s burden and the family disappointment. I have realized what all I have put my
mom through and I am sorry for all the wrong I ve done, the sleepless nights, the broken promises,
and the stealing of money. I m sorry for the embarrassment I ve caused. I m sorry for all of the pain,
arguments and stress. I want my mom understand that I never intended to hurt her. I have learned a lot
about myself that I never knew existed, because the person I used to be is a totally different person
than I am today. Me wanting to change is why I changed and I changed everything. If people didn t
share the same interest as me or I sensed any type of negativity that could rub off on me, I
disassociated myself with those people. If you decide to change you have to change everything, not
just the areas that are convenient for you. No one can force you to do it and some do it cause they are
told to but when they are done with their program, they end up going right back to where they started
off. Drug Court is not easy and I have sat through a lot of graduations, and I would always hear the
graduates say if I can do it so can you and I am sorry to say that is just not true, or everyone would
graduate. I have seen a couple of

Why Did Gunsmith Shops Like Retail Shops
Gunsmith shops were not like retail shops today. Gunsmith shops were very small buildings typically
not on main streets of major towns. They usually built their shops out of stone because it was fire
resistance. They used gravel, flat stone, clay, or a mixture of these. They used this because of its strong
stainability to fire, and its long life span. The most basic shops had only two rooms. One for metal
working and one for wood working. The metal working room contained the forge and the wood
working room had many basic tools. Sometimes, their shops were located on their personal property.
As tensions arise between the colonists and the British, gunsmiths had to work longer hours and they
had to increase the amount of guns they made. In result, gunsmiths became staff mangers overseeing

Gunsmiths made a range of weapons per day sometimes they would make zero or sometimes they
would make three or four depending on the gunsmith, and his experience in the trade Gunsmiths
would use a boring bench to bore a hole in the guns barrel. This was a very precise job because of the
exact measurements for the barrel Gunsmiths also used a device similar to the boring bench. They
used a rifling bench its job was to cut a series of spiral groves into a rifle. This made the bullet spin
which would increase its accuracy. Gunsmiths also used a device called a pan borer. Its purpose was to
carve depressions in the pan of the firing mechanism. Gunsmiths also used tools that people in other
professions use. For example, saws, axes, drills and bits, chisels, rasps, floats, and planes. Gunsmiths
and blacksmiths both used very similar tools because they both worked with metal. Some tools they
both use include: anvils, hammers, vises, clamps, tongs, files, shears, bellows, and the forge.

Examples Of Prejudice In Frankenstein
Prejudice is one of the very core and innate skills animals develop to have comprehension of danger to
evade it. Despite this, humans, which are indefinitely animals, are capable of cognitive thought and
essentially capable to circumvent the idea of prejudism. Some of us avoid being prejudiced daily
through compassion for others. It s not commonly known that this simple gesture may ripple across
the hearts many people and fundamentally change them for the better. In the story of Frakenstein by
Mary Shelley, there are many examples of prejudice occurring and essentially affecting the main
characters negatively. An example of this would be when Victor meets the monster on a mountain and
curses him, saying do you dare approach me? And do not you fear ... Show more content on

In the next chapter, Frankenstein explains the injustice he is faced with as prejudice from humans is
thrown his way. It was when he was saw an old man sitting near a fire who when perceived him,
shrieked loudly, and quitted the hut, and ran across the fields... (Shelley 44). In the midst of his
isolation he becomes confused and angry, later starved for the attention and love that a family may
provide for him. Soon after, the monster discovers his appearance in the pool and even then commits
the crime on himself. He was terrified when he viewed himself in a transparent pool (Shelley 48).
Despite his prejudice against himself, he overcomes this and continues to crave the attention not yet
given to him. After he burns the cottage, the monster, who still has good in him despite the prejudices,
saves a girl who is almost drowning. After saving the girl, he was shot. He had saved a human being
from destruction, and as a recompense (he) writhed under the miserable pain of a wound which
shattered the flesh and bone (Shelley 61). Because of this, he drew much anger from the thought of
humans and attempted to kidnap William to make him like the creature. The creature thought that
William would be

Symbols And Themes In The Scarlet Ibis By James Hurst
How Pride Can Affect Brothers Pride is a feeling of deep pleasure or satisfaction from one s own
achievements. Brother always wanted a brother who he could play with and do other brotherly things
with. Brother was very disappointed and embarrassed by his little brother Doodle because he Is not all
there. He taught Doodle how to walk, swim, run etc. So he would not have to be as embarrassed of
him. In the story, The Scarlet Ibis by James Hurst, the theme is pride can make something better or
worse through symbolism and foreshadowing.
To begin with, pride can make something better or worse with symbolism in multiple ways in this
story. One of the examples is the color red. When the people hear the color red, the reader might think
of blood and death. This is exactly how it was used in the story. Right when doodle was born,
everyone thought he was going to die because his disabilities, so when Brother saw Doodle for the
first time he described him. Doodle said, He seemed all head, with a tiny body which was red and
shriveled like an old man s. ( Hurst 1) This quote shows symbolism with the word red. They started
talking about red whenever they are speaking about death. Brother described Doodle with a red and
shriveled body when he was born because Doodle wasn t suppose to survive. It relates to the theme
because Brother had so much pride in having a little brother at first. The color red kept appearing in
Doodles life until eventually it appeared for the final time

  • 3. Age Related Macular Degeneration ( Amd ) Age related macular degeneration (AMD) is a clinical condition in which there is a progressive decrease in central vision. There are two forms of macular degeneration, dry/nonexudative and wet/exudative, and these differ in fundal findings and treatment options. Dry macular degeneration is due to accumulation of drusen between the retinal pigment epithelium and Bruch s membrane and eventually progresses to geographic atrophy. Geographic atrophy refers to loss of retinal pigment epithelium (RPE) and photoreceptors. Wet macular degeneration, comprising up to 80% of cases of macular degeneration, is due to neovascularization forming choroidal neovascular membranes, which are unstable vessels leading to an array of complications including ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... One important direction of research was the association drawn between complement Factor H and macular degeneration, which proposed that macular degeneration could be considered a much broader systemic vascular disease. Factor H is a glycoprotein that aids in the inhibiting the activation of the alternate pathway to prevent the host from activating the immune response towards self antigens. The association between factor H and macular degeneration is so great that a homozygous single nucleotide polymorphism (SNP) can increase the risk of developing age related macular degeneration by seven fold and even a heterozygous SNP can increase the risk two to three fold. Furthermore, deletions in the genes for complement factor H related 1 and 3, which compete with factor H for binding sites, have been demonstrated to protect against age related macular degeneration by increasing the amount of binding sites available for complement factor H to bind to the vasculature. Factor H has even been shown to be actively synthesized by the RPE; gene products were generated from cultured RPE and real time RT PCR established that transcripts for factor H were abundant in the RPE. The association is even clearer when clinically examining patients with Membranoproliferative Glomerulonephritis II in which there is a deficiency in factor H. These patients develop early onset drusen on fundal examination. Most importantly, the association found between factor H and AMD stirred ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 6. A La Carte By Web Based Services Essay Nowadays, budget conscious customers look at ways to avoid paying for expensive bundles cable TV offers. They prefer to choose a la carte programming offered by web based services. A la carte approach to programming enables the subscribers to pay for only the channels they really want to watch. Several companies including Verizon, Walt Disney and Viacom provide their customers with content they are interested in without the need of paying for channels they are not willing to watch. No wonder there is a lot of competition between the largest operators in the wireless and cable industry like Verizon, Dish and Comcast. In 2014 Verizon Communication chief, Lowell McAdam, said that Web and mobile devices require a different approach than traditional cable. He stated that Web and mobile users don t desire to have hundreds of channels on their wireless device (Albanesius, 2014). Verizon looks into the future and understands the need of implementing changes and satisfying customers. The company wants to move in the right direction and allow their customers to have more control over the programming. Dish is another company that has made their services more attractive to their customers. The company strives to increase the value of their products and services. • 9. The American Dream Of Home Ownership Too many Americans have fallen victim to the crisis that has become the norm for our citizens these days. Lenders no longer want to work with individuals who have gone through the foreclosure process and for many it is not only their homes they lose. Some have lost their jobs and/or families, others fall into a deep depression and worst of all some have taken their own lives. An alternative would be for lenders to add a true customer service department which is not based on pay or get out, but is counseling based to keep Americans in the American Dream of home ownership. This would not only keep their customers for future business with new home loans, but would be noticed by neighbors and the community who are appreciative their home values are not decreasing. The lenders would counsel them through the sale by assisting them with getting the most they can for their home. By getting local community organizations involved to help with home repairs and curb appeal. Once the home is market ready and a dollar amount has been reached for these repairs the home owner will have to volunteer time and/or resources to assist another person going through the same situation. This would not only help the homeowner but will keep homes in the area selling at a fair market value and not bring down the values in their neighborhood. The assistance provided by the lenders and assistance from the community will help build their self confidence and make them feel like they are not alone. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

First fantasy motifs were shown in romanticism. We all know the mystical and unreal characters: ghosts, phantoms etc. Authors for building the special mood and charm of that epoch used that figures. But fantasy is something more than romantic ways of showing nature or inner experiences of the main character in the novel. It #8217;s also not an attempt of explaining the unreal and difficult to understand visions or event. Lewis created the magic land and as he once said: #8221;even if all of that is imagined #8211; trees, grass, sun, moon, stars and Aslan, there is no doubt: this imagined world is much better then the real one #8221;. If everyone will vote then the elected representative will be someone who will represent the believes and values of everyone or at least the majority. In that way, when the representative will do something for the nation, everyone will be able to be benefited from it. However, it is a harsh reality of our society that young people vote at lower rates than other age groups. There are a lot of reasons for that, for example, I think most young people are not interested enough in what the politicians are claiming to in their campaign. Most politician talks about health care, better economy, and external relations. These topics do not seem interesting to young people because in most cases they have not been in a situations where they needed any of those, for example, in most cases senior people need health care, middle age group need to worry about the economy because they need to feed their kids, and authorities need to worry about external affairs. • 29. The Last Day of Humanity Prologue Purpose. The very word seems to carry with it the weight of progress, of advancement, of humanity. It is the fire that has burned in man s heart since the dawn of civilization; a cunning tactician smiling to himself as humanity wins its battles. Purpose has driven us from the first fire to the final frontier; it is the father of civilization. Humanity advanced, quickly. With basic survival and a functioning society fulfilled, civilization sped up. Distances became shorter, entertainment became quicker, and life became busy. With life moving quickly, man lost time to think. And without thought to fuel it, purpose became sparse and unfulfilled. Mankind, in their vanity, began to attempt to eradicate the need for purpose. Society became shallow. It pressed upon its youth, its future, mindless norms disguised as purpose. College, careers, and retirements were laid out ahead of them, whereupon the latest generation began to goose step into misery. Before long, midlife crises began to arise at ages as early as 16, a harrowing thought. Absent among all this anguish was purpose; 401(k) s would not bring meaning to one s life, nor would a management level position in a startup on the rise. Life was no longer about the means, but rather the ends. Consequently, joy became not an experience, but a material. A product, bought and sold in numerous markets, manufactured and pumped out of factories. Amongst this fiasco, we find a character. Lost in the darkness, he wanders, ... Macrosociology, like its name describes, is focused on the broad view of society and how it studies society s behavior. Thomas Paine, a prominent English writer who supported the American Revolution, argued that America was among the best nations in the entire world. He believed that the government was completely fair, that tolerance existed in all parts of the country, and that America was the land of diversity. Gender Issues Of Danish Sports Organizations In Gertrud Pfister s article, Gender Issues in Danish Sports Organizations Experiences, Attitudes and Evaluations, there is a discussion as to whether women are indeed treated differently in higher positions of power in Denmark. Pfister uses statistics and studies to prove her argument that women are indeed treated differently and presented differently in the organizations. She even begins to touch on the fact that men and women are portrayed wrongly in the studies she talks about. Throughout the article women are presented in a mann that suggests they could not possibly be an ideal leader in the ways that men can nor can they deal with responsibilities of such a job. Pfister makes Denmark s position on women being equal to men and deserving of the same opportunities as them known but adds that they re still under represented (27).Women are free to join the same workforces as men and partake in the same activities as men but how they are treated within these occupations is what she finds compelling. Pfister aims to identify reasons for the existing gender hierarchy (27) and accomplishes this by using the results of quantitive surveys on Danish sports leaders performed by herself, her peers and those who have wished to investigate this topic as well. • 39. Questions On The And Law When deliberating upon legal quandaries law students and attorneys engage upon a five component process to scrutinize all the dynamics of a legal premise(s). Litigators and law students denote this process as IRAC (Issue, Rule, Application, and Conclusion). Therefore, IRAC is simply the blueprint for analyzing a legal dispute. While legal dilemmas can become tedious, time consuming, overwhelming, and extremely complex, IRAC methodology can make the process somewhat easier. Hence, IRAC process forces the litigator to apply critical thinking (Metzler, 2003). Furthermore, Metzler states, the litigator must have a comprehensive understanding of the following: Issue What is the central question regarding the tort? Is this a civil or lawsuit? Rule What law(s) govern the issue at hand? The litigator must research many laws to determine which case or cases apply to a particular case. The litigator will also determine which rule(s) is better suited for the special case. Application How does the rule apply to the case? Understanding how the rule applies to the case may allow the litigator to predict the outcome of litigation. Conclusion Provides the answer to the issue statement. When a litigator uses the IRAC tool, he or she will become better prepared to represent adequately either civil or lawsuit dilemma(s). Installing restaurants within stores adds convenience for consumers, offering no frills brands to compete with nationally advertised brands, providing economy family packs to compete with food clubs, operating fast checkouts lanes, and providing banking within the stores, to prevent them from coming off as monopolistic. Consumers want to shop at stores that are easier for them.
