Active Transport
Active transport is the movement of molecule throughout the cell from the region of a lower chamber
into a chamber of higher concentration. This type of transport uses energy to transport things to point
A to point B. Active transport usually happen around the cell membrane, also there are thousands of
proteins contained in the cell lipid layer. These proteins does most of the work in the transporting
system. They are placed across the membrane so one part is inside of the cell while another is on the
outside. Only when they cross the bilayer they will be able to move molecules in and out of the cell.
The membrane proteins are very specific. One protein that will move glucose will not move calcium
ions. There are many types of membrane ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
For this process it is often only found when the particles or cells move down from their concentration
gradient from one area of higher concentration to an areas of lower standard. The most common type
of passive transport is known as Osmosis. This process is solely responsible for moving water
throughout a cell membrane. Other types of particles can also move throughout the cell as well. They
are frequently very small molecules such as oxygen and simple pass between the spaces in the lipid
bilayer of the cell s membrane. This is a very difficult or hard to understand process. However, it is a
very important process that all cells need to survive. One type of passive transport is diffusion. This
process is the process which it moves things from a higher concentration to a lower concentration. The
difference between the concentration between the two areas is often called concentration gradient.
Diffusion will continue until this gradient is terminated or no longer is there. Since diffusion moves
material from an area of higher concentration to an areas of low concentration it is, identified as
moving solutes down the concentration gradient . However, in many cases the moving forces of
passive transport can not be identified to the simplified

Southern Baptist Research Paper
The main reason that I am sold on this Baptist thing is because our statement of beliefs is not a creed
or confession that tries to express all of the things that southern Baptist believe but is instead broad
statement that hits the main points. This is important to me because unlike some other mainline
denominations Baptists do not base the whole organization around a certain theological system.
Because of this the Southern Baptists allow for a minister to change his view as he grows, reads, and
learns without having to leave the denomination.
I am Baptist because I believe in baptism by emersion and a symbolic Lords supper. While the
aforementioned are the two main separating qualities of a Baptist there is room for differing views on

Nike And Nike Vs. Nike
Adidas and Nike are two major athletic clothing companies on the market. The two brands are both
commonly worn by athletes. Nike has endorsed some of the top athletes in the world. Take Michael
Jordan for example, Nike created an entire brand off his name, Air Jordan s. Adidas also has multiple
athletes that advertise for them including soccer player David Beckham. The two companies have
been in constant competition with their footwear and apparel for several years. Deciding between the
two brands has always been a challenging process for me. Having had products from both companies,
I struggle choosing which is better. Both are successful companies that strive to create well made
products for their customers. Through these evaluations, I ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Today, several players ranging in all ages own Adidas cleats, including myself. They provide good
support and give an extra boost when playing the game.
In contrast, the most popularly sold Nike shoe is for running. This type is usually lightweight and easy
slip on. I have owned several pairs of Nikes and all have been very durable. They have lasted me
several years and still look new. Many track runners use Nike tennis shoes or may even own a pair of
Nike spikes. Some people even believe that runners who wear Nike tennis shoes in track races have an
unfair advantage. Nike shoes cushioned the feet of all three medalists in the men s marathon at the Rio
Olympics last summer (Jeré Longman). It is no coincidence that athletes continue to purchase Nike
running shoes, and continue to provide the best results when competing.
While Nike s most profitable product is their footwear, they also offer many different types of apparel.
Such as leggings and tank tops for women; for men they have polo s, tee s and socks. They sell all
sizes for both genders. It is common to see athletes wearing multiple Nike products at one time. I have
seen many people with a new pair of Nike tennis on, while also wearing a Nike t shirt. Most of their
apparel is expensive. Some leggings sale for the price of a

Government Polls
National polls are an important tool used by political parties and news outlets to gauge how the public
feels about current issues or political candidates. Only one month into his presidency, President
Donald Trump is facing a lot of heat from the public, and that is very evident in the polls. Polls can be
used for both good and evil. Some are used to promote agendas or favor towards certain politicians or
policy, while others can be used to simply see where the public stands on current issues.
Currently, according to Gallup, polls are showing that President Donald Trump s first month approval
ratings are below average first month ratings by 21 points (Gallup). While the average approval
number by the end of February is 61%, Trump s numbers are at 40%. The last time approval ratings
were this low within a president s first month was in 1993, when Bill Clinton stepped into office.
There are many reasons for our president s low numbers, ranging ... Show more content on

One thing that I found odd while researching for this paper is the variety of poll results across a small
selection of sources. For instance, CNN posted a poll update in late January, stating that our President
s job approval ratings were at an all time low at 36%. Underneath the large heading and introductory
statement, they mentioned that the information was gathered by one national poll that was provided by
one university. Should the findings of one poll, given by one university, be published as if they
represent all of the American population s views? Personally, I do not feel the need to pay attention to
polls when it comes to national politics. I am generally distrusting of the agendas that many news
outlets support when it comes to national polls, even though I still believe that polls aren t entirely
unnecessary. I fully support the idea of giving the public a way to compare views and express personal

Persuasive Essay On How To Change A Tire On Your Car
How to Change a Tire on Your Car
In 2015, I was dating this girl who had never had been taught how to change a tire, check her oil, or
even add antifreeze to her car. I bring this up because she was on her way to meet me up at the beach
at 5:00am so we could do breakfast on the beach and watch the sunrise. On her way to the beach her
car blew a tire and she called me freaking out so I had to go meet her and help her change her tire on
her car. Now I felt bad because she had never been taught how to change her tire so she was stranded
at 5am. To help more people from being stranded at various hours of the day or night I m going to
explain to you how to change your tire.
So, you re tires blown what do you do now? First thing you need to do is go make sure you have a
spear tire or a doughnut tire, jack, and tire iron. If you don t have any of these things call for help.
Now if you do have these things make sure you are enough off the road that you aren t going to be in
the middle of the road when you get under tour car or are working on your car. Also try to be on as flat
of ground as you can be. Go in too your car and turn the hazard lights on so other cars know you re
there and make sure your car is off and wedge soothing in the front tires so your car dose not start to
roll.
Continuing on you need to get out your jack and climb under your car. Now put the base of the jack on
to the frame of the car near the blown tire and start to jack up your car making sure your blown

Essay about Drilling for Oil in The Gulf of Mexico
America has been dependant on oil since the 1800 s and the invention of modern machinery. From
skin care products to the gasoline in our cars and engines, petroleum is the basis of almost everything
we use for everyday life. Without oil the nation could not meet the energy demands we need to
survive. Continued exploration has been the topic of heated debate among supporters and opponents,
especially when it comes to offshore drilling. My goal here is to show the differing view points of
drilling for oil in the Gulf of Mexico and present a better understanding from a national perspective.
Drilling for our own offshore oil reserves can save the United States billions of dollars.

In the past, he has introduced legislation to increase oil and gas drilling in the Gulf of Mexico and
other offshore regions. The Republican Party has initiated numerous hearings to grant leases for
drilling. In March 2011 Hastings said, Let me state very clearly that these hearings will lead to action
by this committee, Hastings said. As chairman, I intend to introduce legislation to put the Gulf of
Mexico back to work. There are five compelling reasons why the United States should drill our own
oil, as found by a 2008 study group: jobs, revenue, economic growth, public demand, and energy
independence. Allowing drilling off the coasts of the U.S. would also create over 100,000 new jobs.
Over $1 trillion in royalties for federal and state governments could be collected. By using our own
reserves we will spend far less on imported oil and move closer to our energy independence.
According to a study done by the American Petroleum Institute, if offshore areas were opened to new
exploration and drilling, the national production is estimated to increase by 36% in 20 years. Federal
royalties are estimated to be approximately $4 trillion over the project life cycle; A hefty weight off
future tax payers if applied to the federal deficit.

Causes for the birth of Bhakti Movement:
Prior to the coming of Islam to India, Hinduism, Jainism and Buddhism were the dominant religions.
Hinduism lost its simplicity. Many philosophical schools appeared. Two different sects, i.e.,
Vaishnavism and Saivism also appeared within Hinduism. In course of time Sakti worship also came
into existence. Common people were confused on the way of worshipping God. When Islam came to
India, the Hindus observed many ceremonies and worshipped many Gods and Goddesses. There were
all sorts of superstitious beliefs among them. Their religion had become complex in nature. Added to

Discrimination In Classical Conditioning
1. Classical conditioning:
When I was younger, my parents argued a lot! The more it happened, the more I thought it was
normal. As a child, I believed that everyone argued in such a manner.
2. Discrimination in classical conditioning:
According to Carver (2010), discrimination stimulus is a cue that controls the occurrence of behavior.
In softball, there were different signs that my coach would give me. Certain signs meant to steal the
base on bunt. We he didn t want me to anything he would throw out random signs that meant nothing.
These signs would confuse the other team, so that they could not pick up on what we were
communicating.

Positive reinforcement:
In school, I was motivated to read books as a child, not necessarily because I enjoyed them, but
because I was rewarded when I finished. If I finished the book and passed the test I would get points,
which I could exchange for pencils or other nik naks.
5. Negative reinforcement:
As a child, I would refuse to clean my room. If I didn t clean my room, my mom wouldn t let me
watch TV or play with my friends. Needless to say, I quickly changed those habits.
6. Discrimination in operant conditioning:
As I said earlier, my coach would use signals to tell me what to do when I was playing softball. I knew
which signal meant bunt and which meant steal. This is an example of discrimination, because I can
distinguish between the different signals.
7. Generalization in operant conditioning:
My grandmother taught me how to cook in her kitchen. Now, I can cook a meal in any kitchen.
8. Shaping in operant conditioning:
When I first started running, I would reward myself when I reached a quarter mile. Then, I would only
reward myself when I hit a half mile. I kept doing this until I finally reached a full mile. Then, I no
longer rewarded myself for running the mile.

Essay about Preventive Maintenance Checks and Services
Preventive Maintenance Checks and Services (PMCS) means systematic caring, inspecting, and

Pricing And Distribution Strategy Memorandum
Pricing and Distribution Strategy Memorandum With any pricing strategy, the price must match the
branding of the product. For example, for a luxury item branded product, the price needs to be higher
to coincide with the branding perception. A few pricing strategies to focus on include product cost
based strategy, customer focused strategy, and product life cycle strategy. The distribution strategy
also plays a crucial role in the successful implementation of a new product. Furthermore, MM Inc.
needs to determine what distribution channels will have the greatest influential means to market and
sell the new product.
Pricing
Before Mobile Marketing determines which pricing strategy to choose, the organization should
consider the overall objectives. Which pricing strategy will fit best with the objectives of the new
product development? Is the purpose to make the most amount of profit the fastest way possible, or to
develop a long lasting relationship with the target market to establish long term profitability and
growth? Determining the key objective will help to discover which pricing strategy works best,
however, the company has to make a profit to continue business. According to M.U.S.E. (2013),
pricing involves the customer demand schedule, the cost function, and the competitors pricing. All
three factors need to be addressed during the discussions of the following pricing strategies. The first
pricing strategy is the product cost based strategy. The

Public Shaming
The flip side of Internet Fame is an essay written by Jessica Bennett. In this essay, Jessica Bennett
talks about our modern culture and the effects of public shaming. She starts the essay by using Star
Boy as an example. She then states, Among the generation that s been reared online, stories like this
are becoming more common (Bennett 90). As a person who uses technology in everyday life, I can
strongly agree that public shaming is becoming a big issue. Some people might see it as entertainment,
but the victims of public shaming see it as humiliation and harassment. Public shaming can spread
through many ways, such as the use of technology, online videos and certain websites. One reason
why I believe that Public Shaming is a big issue is because of the use of technology. Daniel Solove, a
law professor that is mentioned in the essay, says, Anybody can be a celebrity or a worldwide villain
(Bennett 91). In today, s society technology such as cell phones allow you to record incidents and
upload them to any social media. This is a form of public shaming because most of the time, people
use technology to embarrass other people. People can use their own cell phones to record others doing
an act that might seem either malicious or embarrassing. Jessica Bennett uses Dog Poop Girl as an
example. In 2005, a girl had a public role of Dog poop girl after she refused to clean up after her dog
on a subway. Jessica Bennett says, A minor infraction, perhaps, but another

Master Harold And The Boys Character Analysis
In Master Harold and the Boys, Hally s crippled father never appears on stage, instead, the closest
thing to him talking is through the telephone conversations. However, Hally s father still has a huge
impact on the play as his roles in the play include creating tension through the phone conversations
and his relationship with his son also brings about the bond between Hally and the servants. In
addition, he symbolizes the conflict of apartheid in South Africa back then.
One of Hally s father s role in the play is acting as a dramatic device. His telephone conversations
with Hally alters the mood and creates tension in the play. Before the telephone conversation
regarding his dad, the mood of nostalgia was in the air as Hally and Sam recalled the kite flying
memory. However, after Hally has a frustrating phone call regarding his father, the mood immediately
changes with Hally saying, (seething with irritation and frustration) Tell me something I don t know,
Sam. What the hell do you think I was saying to my Mom? (P.34) This quote is where Hally takes out
his anger and irritation by snapping at Sam, and in doing so, creating tension between the characters.

The Discovery Of The Traditional Orthodox Form Of...
Gnosticism can be defined as the mystical perception of knowledge and was considered to be a heresy
that was condemned by those who followed the traditional Orthodox form of Christianity. In the
second century the movement of Gnostic Christianity occurred; it is also referred to as a Christian sect
(Carus). Though people viewed Gnostic Christianity as a sect, it has never been denied that
Gnosticism is older than Christianity and the relation and importance between the two groups have
never been acknowledged (Gnostic Discoveries). Since the discovery of texts found at Nag Hammadi
which presents Jesus as a Gnostic teacher, the connection between the two groups has grown
exponentially, and Paul Carus the author of The Monist even believes that Christianity is a branch of
Gnosticism. Marvin Meyer a professor of Bible and Christian studies, has found that the discovery of
the Gnostic texts allows scholars to get a deeper understanding of Christian teachings and relate the
findings to biblical texts (Gnostic Discoveries). It is said that Gnosticism formed when early
Christians did not agree with the Old Testament and that Gnosticism was another way for them to
understand Jesus teachings, which is why there are differences between Orthodox beliefs and Gnostic
beliefs (Mansager). In Gnosticism, Jesus, instead of being looked at as a human, is only looked at as a
divine being and the divine being presents the key to reaching salvation. In line 39 of the Gospel of
Thomas it is

The Pros And Cons Of Open Adoption
In recent years, the proportion of women who are employed has risen, the fertility concept has
changed and the rate of infertility has risen slightly, resulting in an increase of the number of people
prefer adopting children (Berry 1993). Open adoption is an adoption that involves contact between
biological and adoptive parents and sometimes between biological parents and the adopted child (
Open Adoption 1973). There are close adoption and open adoption. Thus, whether to adopt children
openly is becoming an controversial issue. There is an argument that the adoption should be open.
This essay is divided into three main points to explain this argument. There are the three main points:
Open adoption could be conducive to the mental health of adopted children. Open adoption may be
beneficial for the foster parents and make them get along better with the adopted children. Open
adoption might help improve the communication between the children s biological parents and

Now, let us start with the first aspect. Open adoption may be generally good for children. In the first
place, open adoption could be conducive to the mental health of adopted children and may be
especially conducive to their acceptance and understanding of adoptive relationships. Open adoption
may make children have more sense of security and the feelings of abandonment are correspondingly
reduced. The openness of adoption could make the adopted child have less risk of mental illness
(Agnich 2016). The adopted children perhaps want to know something about their biological parents.
In a closed adoptive relationship, a child s mentality is probably changed and they are likely to have
an prejudice of for the adoption. In open adoption cases, children could get a relation to their
biological parents so perhaps open adoption will make it easier for children to accept adoption.

Title 10 Integration
The efficient integration of Title 10 and National Guard forces during domestic operations increases
the threshold of a state s capacity to respond to disasters or security requirements. Pre event
preparation is required to achieve efficient integration. This preparation requires three critical
elements, building relationships, integrated planning and exercises. To successfully incorporate federal
forces during a response, states must develop positive relationships with key Title 10 partners during
steady state operations. Building upon these relationships, state and federal partners conduct deliberate
planning for the integration of Title 10 forces in a state response. Finally, exercises validate plans and

of exercises simulating a DSC response. These events provide critical training, however, they are

years. To augment large formal exercises, many states now conduct annual Title 10 synchronization
meetings. In the Alabama version of this event, the DCO, DCE, Deputy DSC, JEC, state based Title

critical. Additionally, the interaction between the Title 10 participants, which normally do not work

Domestic Reform During The Gilded Age
If given the option of one historical process, I believe that the rise of domestic reform movements in
response to the challenges presented by the Gilded Age is the most fundamental process in the

Confucianism Han China
Han China (206 B.C.E. 220 C.E.), and Imperial Rome (31 B.C.E. 476 C.E.), were powerful and
influential civilizations whose fall had an everlasting impact on society. The inability to protect
borders and corrupt officials led to the fall of Han China and Imperial Rome. Unlike the Han,
Christianity tore Rome apart while Confucianism united China. The corruption of officials led to the
dismay of both Han China and Imperial Rome. In Han China, Wang Mang hoarded grain and allowed
his people to starve to death during poor harvest (EV H). He also allowed corruption, while serving in
office, by doing nothing to stop officials who were abusing his attempt to equalize prices of goods

In Han China, the social beliefs of Confucianism brought China closer by teaching morals and ethical
principles (EV H). Confucianism brought upon social order and respect to China (EV H). Unlike the
Han, Christianity tore Imperial Rome apart. Christianity conflicted with Rome s beliefs because
Christians believe in spiritual peace. These beliefs conflicted with Rome s military virtues, triggering
conflicting opinions and divisions (EV R). Ultimately, Christianity weakened the Roman Empire as
opposed to Confucianism uniting Han China. In context, like the Han and the Roman, the Gupta
Empire fell for similar reasons. The Gupta fell for reasons such as from the invasions of the White
Hun, which drained the Guptas treasuries, similar to Han China who were invaded by the Xiongnu
and Imperial Rome by the Visigoths. Civil unrest is also a recurring factor in the fall of all three
mentioned civilizations. In conclusion, Han China and Imperial Rome both shared aspects that led to
their fall. Han China s Confucianism brought China closer together, while Rome s Christianity tore

Latin American Revolutions And The Colonization Of Latin...
The struggle of human society has always been about maintaining power. During the Age of
Exploration, conquistadors and voyagers traveled across the world in search of new land, new people,
and more importantly, new sources of bullion. Explorers like Pizarro and Cortés claimed the lands of
ancient civilizations as colonies, ravaging the natives with disease and battle. The leading colonizers,
primarily France, Spain, and Portugal, controlled every aspect of life for the Americanos. During this
time, the Enlightenment was occurring in Europe. Writers like Locke, Voltaire, Montesquieu, and
Rousseau inspired revolutions with ideas of natural rights, toleration, separation of powers, and
equality. These philosophers inspired revolution, or uprising against a mother country, in the United
States, France, and eventually Latin America. The main influences on the Latin American rebellions
were the Enlightenment ideas of of equality, self rule, and freedom. During the colonization of Latin
America, a majority of Americanos faced discrimination and unjust social hierarchies. At the top were
the peninsulares, composed of the richest citizens, bureaucrats, and religious officials. The creoles
followed them, and were also wealthy. However, the creoles held less powerful positions in society
and were born in the Americas. After that were the mestizos (a mix of Native American and Spanish),
mulattoes (a mix of white and black), natives, free blacks, and finally slaves. Each group

After Effects in John Hersey´s Novel Hiroshima
Hiroshima is an outstanding recreation of the complete annihilation and devastation of during the
aftermath and the year following the United States dropping of the atomic bomb. As the war in the
east carried on, many thought this desolated war might last a lifetime, all the while hoping for an end
and praying it not mean their own end. To end the war, Americans had to pick a target that would
leave the Japanese government with nowhere to retreat, allowing for a crippling effect that would
essentially cause their collapse and surrender. In his writings, John Hersey proclaims that Hiroshima
was a ... inviting target mainly because it had been one of the most important military command and
communications centres in Japan ... (HERSEY, P. 107). In the minds of American strategists, this must
have seemed a flawless method to force the Japanese military into a corner, not allowing withdrawal
without laying down of arms. There was surely no doubt that dropping this bomb of god like
destructive power would, at a minimum, tear into the souls of Japanese, causing catastrophic
devastation.
Of those in the book distraught by the massive explosion, the Reverend Kiyoshi Tanimoto seemed to
be the one person most effected mentally and emotionally by the horrific sights and sounds of the
turmoil. Mr. Tanimoto seemed, to himself, to be the one person not physically harmed by the blast,
causing a great deal remorse, self loathing, and shame for having been unharmed. During the

How Did Pope John Paul II Influence People
I hope to have communion with the people with the people, that is the most important thing was stated
by Pope John Paul II. This shows John Paul II s personality perfectly because he actually cared about
people. But, Pope John Paul II did not only care about Catholic people, he cared about everyone. So,
Pope John Paul II tried to relate with everyone which could consider him a very influential person.
Throughout his papal life, Pope John Paul II updated and strengthened the image of the Catholic
Church, solved many problems like communism and religious differences, and reenergized the Church
teachings and its members. Pope John Paul II updated and strengthened the image of the Catholic
Church because he traveled and talked to everyone. Before Pope John Paul II, popes did not travel
very far and some did not travel at all. This made it hard for people to put a face to the pope and they
were not able to make the Church personable. Though his church can be slow to change, John Paul
was not slow to act. As the most traveled pope in history, John Paul logged about 742,000 miles to
about 130 nations, estimated the Vatican Information Service. He has brought the church to millions in

everyone, regardless of the cost ( Pope John Paul II ). Even though he did not use papal infallibility to
prove what he thought was right people still believed in him, because he was such a great Pope. Pope
John Paul II applied the rules to everyone and this showed everyone that no one was above the rules,

Literary Analysis Of Nadine Gordimer s Once Upon A Time
Not all Once Upon a Time stories end in a happily ever after. In society, some men and women
overprotect their children so intensely that occasionally this puts them in more danger which leads
many to say that they are metaphorically in a prison. This leads to an unhealthy lifestyle for children
all around the world that has protective parents. Adding multiple layers of body armor just weighs you
down. In the short story Once Upon a Time, author Nadine Gordimer, uses point of view to show the
problem in the story, the problem is about excessive protection and how it ends up failing dramatically
but not in the way you think, maybe if the family would have moved things would not have ended up
the way it did. Once Upon a Time is a short story with fairy tale characteristics, like all short stories it

rather than their own house. The author displayed this when writing, So from every window and door

(Gordimer 2) The security measurements the family laid out were meant to keep the family safe and
unharmed. However, their preventative

Rfid in Wine Industry in France
EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
France is the biggest wine producer in the world (7 8 billion bottles sold in 2010). 17% of French
drink wine regularly, which is a total of 9.35 million people. We identified that buying wine requires
knowledge of the different kinds of wine and that many consumers find it difficult to get the
information when they want it.
Our team has identified this pain point as an opportunity to launch our product using smart phones and
RFID technology on the wine bottles. The solution is an application on a smart phone which allows
the end user to scan the RFID tag on the wine bottle in order to get real time information on the wine
bottle, instant access to any promotion available and consumer ratings of the wine.

frequently wine drinkers in France, we estimate that 10% of them will be the innovators who start to

efficient in functioning, fast access to specified and detailed wine information and interactive reviews
sharing within 2 minutes. The easy use will enhance the market penetration speed. With higher
frequency of application usage among our end users, our customers (wine retailers and wine
producers) will increase. We expect to start with 5 15 wine retailers and producers in first year and add
to 20 50 in second year, 50 100 in third year.
Market Penetration potentials
The French wine market is at its stable stage now, not fast growing anymore, but still with large
volume of consumption. We will start our marketing by key activities and relationships we can build
with our customers, with all the sales effort and partnership with RFID suppliers, we assume that our
market share will grow very fast from niche to 30% in the third year.
PEST assessment

anything bad or good, it perhaps can stimulate the consumption, but we need to

The Lost Honour of Katharina Blum
Knowing about the writer of a literary text can shape significantly the way that it is read. Consider the
effect of the writer s context on your understanding of The Lost Honour of Katharina Blum.
As a writer of fiction Böll was interpreting history, creating patterns of meaning, ordering his material
to enable his reader to make sense of it. The experiences of Böll and his values that arose from these
events have been influential on the content and themes of Böll s novel, The Lost Honour of Katharina

German society. Events such as the economic collapse in Germany post WWII, the construction of the

In Böll s eyes,
After the experience of the trade crisis, of being at the mercy of economic forces, now came the
experience of being at the mercy of political forces, which was almost worse, since you could get used
to the former and somehow do something for yourself, but there was nothing you could do about the
other.
Böll found it especially distressing that the people who could have best afforded to resist the rise of
fascism, for example the university professors, did so little. In The Lost Honour of Katharina Blum,
Böll s attitude of contempt for the Nazi s can be viewed in the lack of interrogation of Konrad Beiters,
Konrad Beiters voluntarily admitted to having once been a Nazi and that alone explained why so far
no one had paid any attention to him . Konrad is the only character close to Katharina who is not
questioned by the police and this shows the right winged political stance that West Germany still had
in 1974 and the misuse of authority by powerful people in social institutions such as the media and the
police, especially men.
In 1949, Germany was divided into the Federal Republic of Germany (West Germany) and the
German Democratic Republic (East Germany). Böll was living in West Germany at the time and this
is where The Lost Honour of Katharina Blum is set. West Germany was allegedly the democratic,
capitalist sector whereas East Germany was governed with communist ideologies. Great paranoia was
present in West Germany about East Germany because

High Performance Teams
In today s business world, more and more organizations are moving away from the use of individual
work assignments to a combination of manager led and self directing teams. These businesses are
relying on groups of unique individuals to come together and work on a common goal with a shared
purpose. The ultimate goal for these teams are to produce more than what the individuals could do
separately. In order for those teams to accomplish this, they must become high performance teams.
High performance teams consist of a small number of individuals with complementary skills, who are
committed to a specific goal and mutually agree to hold each other accountable for their results. Those
teams who make it to this level experience autonomy, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
If it is a known fact that individuals tend to compare themselves to each other, then why are leaders in
organizations so surprised that conflict, rivalry, or competition amongst team members occurs? Part of
the reason is because while organizations have changed their thinking from an individualistic form of
production to a collectivist form of teams, they have failed to change their form of recognition,
incentives, motives, and culture to match. Organizations are promoting the idea of teams and working
together for a common goal and purpose, all while offering incentives that are unchanged from the
original idea of individual motivation and it is creating competition rather than the cooperation that
they need for high performance teams (Beersma, Hollenbeck, Humphrey, Moon, Conlon, Ilgen, 2003).
Unfortunately, there has been considerable controversy over the idea of competition and cooperation
in teams. Some research shows that competition is beneficial, while others show that it creates the
conflict organizations are trying to avoid. Therefore, it is important to examine the idea of competition
and cooperation and seek to decide which is better to pursue. According to Scarborough (2012) one of
the best qualities of business leaders or entrepreneurs is a competitive nature. So, if

A social movement is defined as a group of diffusely organized people or organizations striving
toward a common goal relating to human society or social change, or the organized activities of such a
group. However, the concept of a social movement cannot be confined to a simple explanation.
Scholars have developed various theories regarding processes that influence a social movement. Such
theories include the collective behavior theory, resource mobilization theory, and political process
model. Moreover, there are various factors other than a group s grievances that cause the creation of a
social movement. Connections, resources, identities are all factors that can influence the development
and participation within a social movement. To ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
However, social movements can, evolve into integrated structures and new established forms of
behavior. The weakness of the collective behavior theory also involves the thought that social
movements can develop from basic to more structured (Harper and Leicht 146). Not all social
movements will reach a stage of stability, similarly to the beginning stages that include rumors, mobs,
and protests, more developed social movements can be short lived (Harper and Leicht 147). Resource
mobilization theory in contrast to the prior theory previously discussed, focuses on the, role of power
and power struggles in mobilizing people for collective action (Harper and Leicht 149). The theory
provides trends within America during the 1960s that led to an increase in social movement activity.
Some trends mentioned are support both moral and monetary from organizations such as churches and
the role of mass media and its coverage of domestic social problems rather than coverage on
communism. However, the theory places the most emphasis on, the development of professional
SMOs (Social Movement Organizers). The SMOs that developed during the 1960s were run by
bureaucratic organizers in comparison to older SMOs that were run by charismatic leaders or
compelling ideology. Additionally, funding did not come from the groups that SMOs supposedly
represented. As a result, theorists believe that, the U.S. society now possesses the

negative connotation associated with them because they are the institutions that accept those students
that did not make it to other private or public universities. Or those students that were hit the hardest

Birth Order In Canada
Literature Review
Birth order refers to the order in which children are born into their families. Common examples of this
include the first born, second born, youngest and the only child. Birth order is considered to have
profound lasting effects on the psychological and behavioural development of children. For this
reason, it is essential to study birth order and its impacts on children within families in Canada
because it reveals more about the individual in society. A child s birth order is incredibly influential in
regards to their upbringing, shaping their personality and how they grow up to be as individuals. First
born children generally have a great amount of pressure and responsibility placed on them. The

Younger children are used to getting what they want as children and grow up knowing the ability to
charm and manipulate others to their advantage. They also generally less uptight and more carefree
since the family rules are usually loosened by the time of their arrival. Parents are already confident in
their role as caregiver, and therefore are more lenient (Gross, 2014). They excuse behaviour that was
deemed unacceptable for the older children since the parents have already dealt with such situations in
the past and are not as stern with younger children. However, younger children may feel neglected by
their older siblings and may feel inadequate in comparison to the older siblings achievements.
Youngest children can also be bullied by older siblings. Furthermore, since parents are less restrictive
over younger children, they may be misguided and more reckless than their older siblings who may
have had to play it safe. These children can then grow up to be irresponsible and lack direction and the
ability to prioritize in their lives. This can lead to mental confusion, emotional instability and
depressive symptoms. It may result in a dependence on harmful addictive substances to turn to as an
outlet. Likewise, younger siblings are also more prone to addiction, according to Medical Daily, and

The Christian Old Testament Of The Bible Today
In the beginning, God created the Heauen, and the Earth. And the earth was without forme, and voyd,
and darknesse was vpon the face of the deepe: and the spirit of God mooued vpon the face of the
waters. And God said, Let there be light, and there was light. (Genesis 1 3) So begins the first book of
the Christian Old Testament, the Hebrew Torah, one of the most recognizable texts in history. At least,
the text begins the King James Bible in 1611, itself arguably the most influential version or translation
of the Bible today. But this is not the original text. Surprisingly, the original scripture was not written
in Early Modern English in the 17th century in the British Isles, but in Hebrew and possibly Aramaic,
while the New Testament was written in Koine Greek. In fact, the original Hebrew looked nothing like
our Latin script of today. Hebrew is a Semitic language, and therefore an Afroasiatic one, while
English is Indo European, and you would be hard pressed to find someone who believes that the two
fall into a larger, connected language family besides some Indian nationalists who believe that all

Advantages And Disadvantages Of Citizen Journalism
The advantages and disadvantages of citizen journalism and professional journalism
In this era, the popularity of citizen journalism has spread throughout all over the world. As a matter
of fact, more and more people are starting to take benefit of content publishers. This can be seen in
Television news, such as winter snow photos, traffic accidents or local sporting events. However, it
leaves a question, what exactly is news anyway? What do you need to be a citizen journalist? What is
its impact on today s fast paced society? Basically, a lot of people think this is a great thing and it can
be a good tool for promoting interaction between the media community and the community. There are
pros and cons of citizen journalism, we need to face this issue critically and dialectically (Techopedia,
2017). On the one hand, citizen journalism has some benefits that professional journalism can not
provide. Firstly, comparing with professional journalism, citizen journalism provides a wider range of
news and fills the gaps in mainstream media. The main body of the dissemination of citizen
journalism is ordinary citizens rather than professional journalists or professional media. People can
through the Facebook, microblog,Twitter to publish news which happened around their life. Delicacy,
beautiful scenery, sports events, entertainments, political commentary can be seen in Weibo, Twitter,
Facebook and so on. Secondly, citizen journalism could stimulate the interest of audience. Most
audiences enjoy reading ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The most significant advantage of professional journalism is authority and accuracy. We are able to
read the news from television, newspapers, radio, all of these news are from professional journalists.
They through interviews, collecting materials, several times to verify the news before publishing.
These news are more credible than citizen journalism. Lindner et al (2015, p. 555 ) explain

Current Trends On The Construction Industry
Current Trends in the Construction Industry
Beginning a new year of the construction industry with a report of 6% growth (achieved
approximately $712 billion) in the financial profit of construction from Dodge Data Analytics 2016
Construction Outlook, many analysts and experts predict that potential values for the construction
business will be progressively increased with extensions of modern technologies and state of the art
concepts for improving construction performance, especially in project cost and schedule
achievements (Peiffer, 2016). Although it is noticeable that diverse tendencies, including
prefabrication or offsite constructions, green buildings, remodeling, etc., are taking higher place in the
next decades, true collaborations, sophisticated building modeling tools, and practical value boosted
procedures are always bottom lines for a blossoming construction project. It is unquestionable that
construction project costs and schedule are spectacularly difficult to predict by reason of complexity
of building procedures and presence of thousands of dependent variables throughout a project. As a
result, duties and responsibilities of forecasting and envisioning project cost and schedule performance
are considered as momentous challenges and complicated issues for all construction experts and
professionals (Ai et al., 2015). Growing from these concerns, a suggestion of synergizing components
that particular affect the cost and schedule efficiency is becoming an

Nabisco Research Paper
Nabisco, the maker of the iconic cream filled Oreo, has proudly touted itself as the maker of America
s favorite cookie announced plans to lay off 600 people in its Chicago factory and move production
lines to Salinas, Mexico. Irene Rosenfeld, the head of Mondelēz International (Parent company to
Nabisco) announced that the company opted out of a $130 million dollar upgrade for the Chicago
factory, and is instead investing that same money in a state of the art production system in Salinas
called Lines of the Future. In March of this year works at the Chicago factory where Oreos have been
lovingly made for 100 years, indeed workers started receiving layoff notices. Many Americans were
upset to hear the news of Nabisco moving production to Mexico, and have vowed to no longer
purchase Oreo s or any other Nabisco product whose label doesn t read made in America. The
controversy has even captured the attention of presidential hopefuls. Nabisco executives claim moving
production will boost productivity and profits, of course we all know it s cheaper to pay workers
wages in Mexico not to mention an employer doesn t have to worry about providing benefits or deal

Essay about Racial Discrimination in the U.S. Justice System
Racial Discrimination in the U.S. Justice System Introduction In modern day America the issue of
racial discrimination in the criminal justice system is controversial because there is substantial
evidence confirming both individual and systemic biases. While there is reason to believe that there
are discriminatory elements at every step of the judicial process, this treatment will investigate and
attempt to elucidate such elements in two of the most critical judicial junctures, criminal apprehension
and prosecution. Criminal Apprehension Statistical accounts show consistent accord in that African
Americans are disproportionately arrested over whites. What is much less lucid, however, is the real
reason for this disparity. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
While both sides of this deeply entrenched controversy substantiate meaningful claims, neither of their
arguments is exhaustive, although Walker, Spohn, and DeLone s case is much more convincing.
African American arrest statistics are best understood as the convergence of both a somewhat higher
incidence of crime as well as racial discrimination in the criminal justice system. Although higher
incidence of crime may initially appear to justify higher arrest rates, there is significant evidence
demonstrating that not only is African American crime exaggerated by a racially discriminatory
criminal justice system (one of the products of which is disparate arrest rates), the greater crime rates
in and of themselves are a result of economic inequality. In order to understand the nature of the
statistical disparity, the first aspect that must be examined is necessarily the statistics themselves.
Recent data (1998) shows that more than two out of every three arrested persons are white (67.6%)
and that African Americans account for only 30% of all arrests. More striking is the data adjusted per
capita: African Americans are two and a half times as likely to be arrested as whites, and are even
more over represented in violent crimes, for which they are over three times as likely to be arrested.
African Americans are five times as likely to be arrested in cases of robbery or murder (Walker et al.,
39). There is

The Victorian Era And The Colonial Era
Savannah Workman
Professor Tehseen Ifran
English 202
31 January 2016
The Victorian Era The Victorian Era or the romantic period was a time in which Queen Victoria ruled
the throne. The Victorian period formally began in 1837 the year in which Victoria became the Queen
of England and ended in 1901 the year in which she was laid to rest. In this paper, I will discuss
Queen Victoria s life or what we all know to be The Victorian Era. I will highlight some of the most
powerful events that occurred during this time, the many reforms that were passed during Queen
Victoria s ruling, I will discuss the political, cultural, and social developments of this time period. I
will speak about some inventions of the Victorian Era, and the two main political parties better known
as the Tory and Whigs that were popular during this age. You will discover what imperialism is, the
commonwealth, The British Monarch and why and how Victoria was such a remarkable monarch. I
will even tell you some of the most interesting facts that I have learned to be true about Queen
Victoria.
First a little back history, May 24, 1819 marked a birth in history that most definitely did not go
unnoticed. Born into a royal family in Kensington Palace came the one and only Princess Alexandrina
Victoria. Victoria may have been born into royalty but, she actually grew up not being surrounded by
wealth. She grew up in a normal home instead of a palace. Little did the princess know that she would
become heir to the

  • 2. Active Transport Active transport is the movement of molecule throughout the cell from the region of a lower chamber into a chamber of higher concentration. This type of transport uses energy to transport things to point A to point B. Active transport usually happen around the cell membrane, also there are thousands of proteins contained in the cell lipid layer. These proteins does most of the work in the transporting system. They are placed across the membrane so one part is inside of the cell while another is on the outside. Only when they cross the bilayer they will be able to move molecules in and out of the cell. The membrane proteins are very specific. One protein that will move glucose will not move calcium ions. There are many types of membrane ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... For this process it is often only found when the particles or cells move down from their concentration gradient from one area of higher concentration to an areas of lower standard. The most common type of passive transport is known as Osmosis. This process is solely responsible for moving water throughout a cell membrane. Other types of particles can also move throughout the cell as well. They are frequently very small molecules such as oxygen and simple pass between the spaces in the lipid bilayer of the cell s membrane. This is a very difficult or hard to understand process. However, it is a very important process that all cells need to survive. One type of passive transport is diffusion. This process is the process which it moves things from a higher concentration to a lower concentration. The difference between the concentration between the two areas is often called concentration gradient. Diffusion will continue until this gradient is terminated or no longer is there. Since diffusion moves material from an area of higher concentration to an areas of low concentration it is, identified as moving solutes down the concentration gradient . However, in many cases the moving forces of passive transport can not be identified to the simplified ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Because of this the Southern Baptists allow for a minister to change his view as he grows, reads, and learns without having to leave the denomination. Only one month into his presidency, President Donald Trump is facing a lot of heat from the public, and that is very evident in the polls. Polls can be used for both good and evil. Some are used to promote agendas or favor towards certain politicians or policy, while others can be used to simply see where the public stands on current issues. Currently, according to Gallup, polls are showing that President Donald Trump s first month approval ratings are below average first month ratings by 21 points (Gallup). While the average approval number by the end of February is 61%, Trump s numbers are at 40%. Should the findings of one poll, given by one university, be published as if they represent all of the American population s views? As chairman, I intend to introduce legislation to put the Gulf of Mexico back to work. There are five compelling reasons why the United States should drill our own oil, as found by a 2008 study group: jobs, revenue, economic growth, public demand, and energy independence. Allowing drilling off the coasts of the U.S. would also create over 100,000 new jobs. Over $1 trillion in royalties for federal and state governments could be collected. By using our own reserves we will spend far less on imported oil and move closer to our energy independence. According to a study done by the American Petroleum Institute, if offshore areas were opened to new exploration and drilling, the national production is estimated to increase by 36% in 20 years. She starts the essay by using Star Boy as an example. She then states, Among the generation that s been reared online, stories like this are becoming more common (Bennett 90). As a person who uses technology in everyday life, I can strongly agree that public shaming is becoming a big issue. Some people might see it as entertainment, but the victims of public shaming see it as humiliation and harassment. Public shaming can spread through many ways, such as the use of technology, online videos and certain websites. One reason why I believe that Public Shaming is a big issue is because of the use of technology. Daniel Solove, a law professor that is mentioned in the essay, says, Anybody can be a celebrity or a worldwide villain (Bennett 91). In today, s society technology such as cell phones allow you to record incidents and upload them to any social media. Gnosticism can be defined as the mystical perception of knowledge and was considered to be a heresy that was condemned by those who followed the traditional Orthodox form of Christianity. In the second century the movement of Gnostic Christianity occurred; it is also referred to as a Christian sect (Carus). Though people viewed Gnostic Christianity as a sect, it has never been denied that Gnosticism is older than Christianity and the relation and importance between the two groups have never been acknowledged (Gnostic Discoveries). Since the discovery of texts found at Nag Hammadi which presents Jesus as a Gnostic teacher, the connection between the two groups has grown exponentially, and Paul Carus the author of The Monist even believes that Christianity is a branch of Gnosticism. Marvin Meyer a professor of Bible and Christian studies, has found that the discovery of the Gnostic texts allows scholars to get a deeper understanding of Christian teachings and relate the findings to biblical texts (Gnostic Discoveries). It is said that Gnosticism formed when early Christians did not agree with the Old Testament and that Gnosticism was another way for them to understand Jesus teachings, which is why there are differences between Orthodox beliefs and Gnostic beliefs (Mansager). Consider the effect of the writer s context on your understanding of The Lost Honour of Katharina Blum. The experiences of Böll and his values that arose from these events have been influential on the content and themes of Böll s novel, The Lost Honour of Katharina Blum. Böll found it especially distressing that the people who could have best afforded to resist the rise of fascism, for example the university professors, did so little. In The Lost Honour of Katharina Blum, Böll s attitude of contempt for the Nazi s can be viewed in the lack of interrogation of Konrad Beiters, Konrad Beiters voluntarily admitted to having once been a Nazi and that alone explained why so far no one had paid any attention to him . Konrad is the only character close to Katharina who is not questioned by the police and this shows the right winged political stance that West Germany still had in 1974 and the misuse of authority by powerful people in social institutions such as the media and the police, especially men. If it is a known fact that individuals tend to compare themselves to each other, then why are leaders in organizations so surprised that conflict, rivalry, or competition amongst team members occurs? Part of the reason is because while organizations have changed their thinking from an individualistic form of production to a collectivist form of teams, they have failed to change their form of recognition, incentives, motives, and culture to match. Organizations are promoting the idea of teams and working together for a common goal and purpose, all while offering incentives that are unchanged from the original idea of individual motivation and it is creating competition rather than the cooperation that they need for high performance teams (Beersma, Hollenbeck, Humphrey, Moon, Conlon, Ilgen, 2003). Unfortunately, there has been considerable controversy over the idea of competition and cooperation in teams. Some research shows that competition is beneficial, while others show that it creates the conflict organizations are trying to avoid. Therefore, it is important to examine the idea of competition and cooperation and seek to decide which is better to pursue. Resource mobilization theory in contrast to the prior theory previously discussed, focuses on the, role of power and power struggles in mobilizing people for collective action (Harper and Leicht 149). The theory provides trends within America during the 1960s that led to an increase in social movement activity. Some trends mentioned are support both moral and monetary from organizations such as churches and the role of mass media and its coverage of domestic social problems rather than coverage on communism. At least, the text begins the King James Bible in 1611, itself arguably the most influential version or translation of the Bible today. But this is not the original text. Surprisingly, the original scripture was not written in Early Modern English in the 17th century in the British Isles, but in Hebrew and possibly Aramaic, while the New Testament was written in Koine Greek. In fact, the original Hebrew looked nothing like our Latin script of today. Hebrew is a Semitic language, and therefore an Afroasiatic one, while English is Indo European, and you would be hard pressed to find someone who believes that the two fall into a larger, connected language family besides some Indian nationalists who believe that all languages are derived from Sanskrit, or Tamil. African American arrest statistics are best understood as the convergence of both a somewhat higher incidence of crime as well as racial discrimination in the criminal justice system. Although higher incidence of crime may initially appear to justify higher arrest rates, there is significant evidence demonstrating that not only is African American crime exaggerated by a racially discriminatory criminal justice system (one of the products of which is disparate arrest rates), the greater crime rates in and of themselves are a result of economic inequality. In order to understand the nature of the statistical disparity, the first aspect that must be examined is necessarily the statistics themselves. Recent data (1998) shows that more than two out of every three arrested persons are white (67.6%) and that African Americans account for only 30% of all arrests. More striking is the data adjusted per capita: African Americans are two and a half times as likely to be arrested as whites, and are even more over represented in violent crimes, for which they are over three times as likely to be arrested.
