Exotic Field Class For Veterinary Technician Students
Exotic field class for veterinary technician students at NCTA April Sulzbach Nebraska College
of Technical Agriculture Vet Tech Student Curtis Neb. Abstract Veterinary technology students
have the open option to take field classes while taking their required classes while they are
students here. A field class gives students the option to go out into the real world and be able to
work alongside veterinarians, and licensed veterinary technicians. This gives the student a
chance to experience if they really want to go into the field that they are looking at. Nebraska
College of Technical Agriculture veterinary technology systems already offers a few different
kinds of field classes, those including Emergency rotation, Equine surgery and anesthesia,
calving rotation, the world of work, making a difference, and their internships per the Spring
2017 schedule of classes. All of these classes require some kind of pre requisite classes with a
70% or above, and provides the student with the choice of where they would like to go and
complete the course. These courses have the following range of requirements from working 40
80 hours, doing progress sheets during the time of the class, getting rated by the manager you
are working for, and writing a final paper over what you learned and experienced during the class.
Yet, the college does not offer an Exotic field class for students who would like to go into that field
of work. Why this class would be needed. NCTA has

The Portrayal Of Female Characters In Lysistrata By...
Given just the plot of Lysistrata, one might think that Lysistrata by Aristophanes is a highly
progressive comedy in which women are empowered and are given meaning beyond the household.
Unfortunately, as one starts to delve deeper into the story, there are many things that point the over
way, mainly the portrayal of secondary female characters, the women s overall willingness to
discount their non physical features and the peace making scene around the end of the story.
The events in the play encourage the notion that the best thing young women have going for them
is their bodies. In the beginning of the play, it is pointed out that the women present during the pact
all have very nice bodies. As each women arrives this is the first thing Lysistrataand Kleonike
notice; they make it abundantly clear in the conversation as well. (Aristophanes, 356) While
Lysistrata is telling her about her plan, Kleonike even says Wisdom for women? There is nothing
cosmic about cosmetics and glamor is our only talent. All we can do is sit, primped and painted,
made up and dressed up. (Aristophanes, 353)
Even though, the women gain power in the play by withholding sex from the men, they also
withhold sex from themselves. Their struggles with coping with the temporary abstinence is
demonstrated by frequent complaining among the women and, later, the averted endangerment of
the movement as a result of some women trying to ditch the effort. The women that tried to leave

Whs Shortcomings That Our Company Is Facing
The purpose of this report is to discuss the WHS shortcomings that our company is facing. As an
organization, we have a range of duties, responsibilities and obligations, from the PCBU,
management, HSR personnel, officers and workers. Everyone has a responsibility and duty to
themselves and each other. As you are aware, a supervisor from our company attempted to hold a
meetingto discuss a specific hazard and he came across multiple barriers that hindered him in his
goal. This report will identify our legislative requirements for consultation and participation,
processes that we could implement internally and externally, and my input if I am given the
authority and resources by management.
There are several legislative requirements for consultation and participation. According to the
WHS Act 2012 Section 47 (1), The person conducting a business or undertaking must, so far as is
reasonably practicable, consult, in accordance with this Division and the regulations, with workers
who carry out work for the business or undertaking who are, or are likely to be, directly affected by
a matter relating to work health or safety. This dutyplaced on the PCBU is based on the fact that
worker input and participation in WHS policies improves outcomes for workers and reduces work
related injuries. Section 49 (a) of the WHS Act identifies A person conducting a business or
undertaking must consult with workers when identifying hazards and assessing risks to health and
safety arising

Dogma Debate
I ve joined the popular (and sometimes funny) weekly radio show/podcast Dogma Debate w
/David Smalley. It s a show where we explore issues from religion, race, politics, etc., to current
events. Not much is off limits. For the most part, the reception s been positive. Mutually
exploring ideas in the pursuit of growth is a win for me. Quite frankly, I am a different voice
from what many listeners are used to (read that as Person of Color). Some of my views take
listeners aback. I violate their beliefs, making them quite uncomfortable, which subjects me to some
interesting migro aggressions when I dampen their echo chambers. My inbox usually has a gem

Like Water For Chocolate Feminism Essay
Feminism can be defined as the belief that women and men should have equal rights and
opportunities.
I think Like Water For Chocolate is a feminist novel because the two main characters in the novel
exhibit characteristics that represent what a feminist is. Feminism is the belief that women and
men should have equal rights and opportunities. Tita and Gertrudis show through their behavior,
actions, and language that they believe that women should be able to live a life with the same rights
and opportunities as men.
The first reason Tita supports my belief that Like Water For Chocolateis a feminist novel is that she
demonstrated her feminism by rejecting conforms to social norms for female behavior and
choosing instead her equal right to fully love Pedro by having an ... Show more content on

This quote explains that Gertrudis earned her commission of general by working brutally hard by
fighting in many battles in the Mexican revolution. This is usually the pattern men adopt to gain
the rank they want in a war.
Leadership was in her blood and once she joined the army, she began a rapid ascent through
powerful positions until she arrived at top; ... (9, p179). We learn in this quote that Gertrudis acts
like a feminist because she availed herself of the same rights and opportunities that men take to
rise to the top of their profession. She was not afraid to show she was a leader and she was not
afraid to take opportunities that came along to show her abilities and be promoted up the military
ranks to general.
In conclusion, we see that two main and powerful characters in Like Water For Chocolate, Tita and
Gertrudis, exemplify and demonstrate the traits that feminists have the ability and fearlessness to
take advantage of the same rights and opportunities that men take advantage of. These two
characters support my belief that Like Water For Chocolate is a feminist

Geoffery Chaucer s The Canterbury Tales

written by Geoffery Chaucer in the middle ages stands out as one of the key pieces of poetry
from the time. The Canterbury tales consist of many tales told by pilgrims on their way to The
Cathedral of St. Thomas A. Becket in Canterbury. Thirty pilgrims gathered for the voyage to the
cathedral and all agreed to tell two tales there and two on the way back. The pilgrims on the trip
all come from different background and all have different professions that will make each of their

How Does Jesus Talk With A Samaritan Woman
Amanda Palato
Dr. Layton
Jesus and the Gospels
14 May 2018 Jesus Talks With a Samaritan Woman (John 4:1 26)
Through Jesus, God s love and deliverance is made accessible for everyone, and through him,
you will have everlasting life. In John 6:47, the author states, I am telling you the truth: he who
believes has eternal life (NIV). John 4:1 26 directly shows how if you are willing believe in him,
you will have eternal life. Jesus will ignore any circumstances of an individual to show his love.
This passage expertly shows that despite Jesus being a Jewish man and was not supposed to
associate with Samaritans, did so anyway to express his love and to get the woman to have
everlasting life. The background of a person does not matter, as long ... Show more content on

The well was seen as a place where sin filled people came in order to encounter and get restoration
from Jesus. It was also seen as a place where people can get fresh water from Jacob. This was also a
place where travelers stop to rest. Many religions find this place a very significant place as well.
However, according to Christians, The significance of Jacob s well is that it provided an
opportunity for Jesus to present Himself as the life giving Messiah to a Samaritan woman and,
later, to her whole village (What is the significance of Jacob s well?).
Previously to this passage, Jesus had performed many signs. One of the most prevalent
examples, and the holiest of signs, is when Jesus turns water into wine. This was one of the most
symbolic signs Jesus had performed, and showed that Jesus was indeed the Son of God and was
going to sacrifice himself for the sake of eternal life for all who believe. The passage of Jesus and
the Woman by the well is just one of those many significant signs Jesus carried out and adds to his

A Report On The Outbreak Of Salmonella
Salmonella is a gram negative bacterium present in contaminated food or water. Typhoid fever is a
systemic infection caused by the serotype Salmonella typhi and can be fatal without proper
intervention. Instances of resistant typhoid are high in less developed countries. Resistance occurs
when genetic mutations prevent antibiotic mechanisms of action, making current antibiotics less
effective. The purpose of this drug screen was to target oncological drugs and diversity library
compounds to identify novel antibiotic substances. To perform the initial drug screen, we exposed
Salmonellatyphimurium to various compounds and chemotherapeutic drugs. The positive and
negative controls were ampicillin and Dimethyl sulfoxide (DMSO), respectively. We used
spectrophotometry to measure the growth of salmonella in the plate. Hits were identified as
compounds with an absorbance below 2 standard deviations of the mean DMSO value, meaning
that hits would have an absorbance below 0.065. We identified that the FDA approved drug
capecitabine had an average absorbance of 0.035. To perform a dosing series, capecitabine was
diluted in a 1:2 ratio, making 13 dilutions total. The dosing series revealed that capecitabine is
most effective at doses lower than 6.25 ОјM. Through this process, we determined that the
oncological drug Capecitabine (Xeloda) has dose dependent antibiotic properties. Capecitabine is a

Reflective Reflection On Reflections
Reflections Thunder crashed all around making the ground shake. I was running late as usual,
but this time I was not sure what I was late for. The ground was uneven as I ran to my
destination; whether that was home or work I can not quite remember. Consequently, I just knew
I needed to arrive there and quickly. Thunder boomed again, but this time it was different. Ahead
a flash of lightning struck, blinding me, causing my eyes to close for a split second, then I felt a
breath of air tickle my neck. I shut my eyes tight, terrified to turn around as goose bumps crawled
up my arms. Nevertheless, I turned around slowly opening my eyes, but there was only darkness

Looking around for any sign of life, the floor creaking with step I took, I came to a black and
white striped door with no apparent way to enter. Is anyone there? I called hoping I would not
receive an answer. Slowly the door opened with a sigh and light beamed from the inside. Objects
started to move rapidly as the door spun out of control. I fell to my knees, overcome with fatigue
and dizziness. When it passed a new door stood in front of me though this time it was as tall as a
toddler. Curious, I made myself as tiny as I could wondering if I could fit. One arm made it
through the door when suddenly the sound of a chainsaw echoed throughout the hall. Too late I
realized it was coming from the door. A scream of agony escaped my mouth as the chainsaw
penetrated my skin and slowly sawed my arm in half. Stop! Please make it stop! I could not
handle it any longer as the pain shot up my whole body. Then, with a loud clunk my arm landed
on the floor next to me. The pain from my arm numbed me to the bone, tears streamed down my
face finally turning into a waterfall of tears. Hmm. Melody, I like the taste of that name, a silky
voiced resonated around me. Twisting my head in the direction of the voice I looked for the
source but was unable to find one. W w who are you? I wailed. Nobody of importance my dear.

Violent Crimes In America
To begin, today in America there is a lot controversy going on in relation to this topic. Statistics
show that violent crimes are dropping over recent years. These groups are made up of people
who want guns to be banned entirely. They believe that no average citizen should have a gun at all
and some even wish the take guns away from law enforcement officers. The arguments against this
first group of people is that is we ban guns criminals will continue to have them, but no one else
will have a gunin order to stop them. A lot of criminals do not use legal means to get guns; they
are more likely to go through the black market or other illegal means. However, the other extreme
side of the gun debate is held by people who are worried that the

Impact Of Prematurity On Development Essay example
Impact of Premature Birth on Development
Years ago, premature birth almost always meant death for the baby. Today, however, we have the
technology to nurture these infants development, and many of them survive to lead normal, healthy
lives. Although, very premature infants (that is, those born before about the fifth month) are still
not likely to survive, many born at five months and older will thrive. Some preterm babies,
however, do have many obstacles to overcome. There are a variety of medical problems that affect
some of them, they may have impaired mental or physical conditions, and they may be looked upon
by others in their environment as slow, or they might be treated differently because they were...

This still puts them in the same IQ range as their full term peers. They are more likely to need
special education classes later in life, though, and more likely to have to repeat a grade in school.
This is most likely because some premature infants have been shown to have some cognitive
impairment when compared to full term infants of the same age. Their memories are not as good,
and their information processing speed is significantly lower.
There have been many studies performed that compare the cognitive performance of preterm
infants with full term infants. One study in particular, performed by Susan A. Rose and Judith
F. Feldman, tested the memory and the processing speed of preterm children versus full term
children at the age of eleven. They used the Colorado Specific Abilities Test, which is a
comparison of eight paper and pencil tasks the child must perform. This test showed the degree
of these four abilities: memory, perceptual speed, spatial ability, and verbal ability. They also
used the Cognitive Abilities Test (CAT) which is a detailed exam of memory and speed. This test
shows us exactly what aspects of speed and memory it is that pre and full term children differ in,
and how much this difference actually affects them. It is comprised of a set of basic cognitive tasks
used to study the individual elements of cognitive

believes that that people primarily depend on pictures in our head , mostly put forth by news
media, in order to learn more about the world. As it is not possible to personally experience it
all, Lippmann says that at numerous incidents these pictures in our head lead us to behave in a
certain manner or make certain decision based on these images. These pictures and images are
delivered to us through media. According to the ABC news (1996), 76% of the people form their

Expansionism As A Policy Of Promoting Economic Growth
Expansionism is a policy of promoting economic growth. The main concern arises when expanding
territory does not prove to be beneficial to all races, as its growth in territory may simply be
destruction for others. The expansionism and encroachment forced by capitalists can ultimately be
categorized as oppression and white superiority, as it resulted in the deterioration of culture, natural
rights, and mental stability for the Native Americans. The interests of the white capitalists to
acquire Western land limited the natural rights of the Native Americans. It is the beliefs of white
superiority and falsified authority that lead to the mistreatment of indigenous people like the Native
Americans. Several incidents in American history present white capitalists neglecting the opinions
and rights of Indians, for profit and expansionism, as An estimated two million indigenous people in
the United Stateswere reduced, through slaughter, starvation, and disease, to less than a quarter of
a million people by 1900 (Kratzer). Although the Treaty of Fort Laramie of 1868 stated that no
white person or persons shall be permitted to enter the Black Hills, the administration of Ulysses
S. Grant pressured the Indians to sell the Black Hills, as it was a major resource of gold (Miller).

Jefferson went to school and took his education very seriously. Nothing came easy for Jefferson,
he had to work for anything he wanted. Most authors were born in a very wealthy family and
had an educational background. That was not Jefferson. Jefferson was a very hard working man
no matter the situation. He was very determined man to get what he wanted, whether he dealt
with being a great president or being a great author. This kind of work ethic helped Jefferson in
every situation he was in. He was not a lazy man at all. This helped him write some of the best
books the United States has ever seen. What would you do if we didn t have The Declaration of
Independence that Jefferson was a huge part of? If we didn t have that document the United

The Pros And Cons Of Western Christianity
When people close their eyes and try to picturize Jesus, generally a singular image comes to mind.
A godly figure with blonde hair, blue eyes, and pale skin. This image is similar to what is seen in
many popular Western paintings in museums like the 16th century painting, Christ Among the
Doctors by artist Albrecht Durrer. In this painting the fair skinned Jesuslooks celestial and divine
amongst the dark, sinister Jewish scholars. But what all of these famous pieces of art have in
common is that they fail to portray who Jesus truly was: a practicing Jewish man from Nazareth,
Israel. As Jesus was a Jew from Israel, historically it would be impossible for him to look like his
fair skinned Northern European devotees. Although the Bible and many... Show more content on

Judaism and Islam in particular practice aniconism, the custom in which there are no physical
depictions of their God or entities relating to God. There are also no physical descriptions of
how they look in religious texts either. This makes it very easy for people around the world
practice the religion and feel included. Since there is no physical depiction, every devotee is
free to contextualize the religion in any way relating it to themselves. However that is not the
only option. Some religions like Hinduism have gods that are depicted in colors that do not
pertain to any particular race. Although Hinduism is widely popular in India, the physical
depictions do not only pertain to Indians. Many pieces of Hindu art displays gods like Krishna
or Vishnu as blue gods. The god Hanuman is also sometimes depicted to be a red god in popular
forms of Hindu art and in many sculptures. Unlike these religions, since physical depictions of
Christian art do not adhere to all people of all skin tones, many people may leave the Christian
Church. Since one of the main goals of the Christian Church is to expand the religion and recruit
new followers, this can be an issue if many people around the world cannot identify with their own
religion. Thus in order to keep expanding the Church and staying true to Christ s mission, the
Church must either educate its followers

Taking a Look at the Blackfoot Tribe
I chose to write my research paper on the Blackfoot reservation which is home to the Blackfoot
tribe. The Blackfoot tribe was sometimes known as the classic example of the Plains Indians. The
Blackfoot reservation actually consists of four different tribes and those are the Blackfoot/Siksika,
Blood/Kainai, Pikuni/Peigan, and North Peigan Pikuni tribes. The BlackfootIndians initially
migrated from the Great Lakes region and now live in Montanaand some of Canada.
There is a lot of history behind the Blackfoot tribe that I am sure a lot of people are unaware of.
The Blackfoot tribe first learned about and got their first horses and riles in 1700, also during that
time they traveled along the Rocky Mountains. In 1851 there was a treaty that was called the Fort
Laramie Treaty of 1851. The Blackfoot tribe was not one of the tribes that attended the negotiation
of this treaty, but it still greatly affected their tribe. Article 5 of the Treaty defined the territory of
this tribe and used the Musselshell, Missouri, Yellowstone Rivers, and the Rocky Mountain Range
as markers of this territory. In 1873 and 1874, President Grant made Executive Orders shrinking
reservation lands. The 1873 Order diminished the 1851 and 1855 treaty lands and created an entire
reservation for the Blackfoot, Gros Ventre, Assiniboine, and Sioux. This territory went from north
of the Missouri and Sun River east to the Dakota border. The 1874 Executive Order moved the
southern boundary north from the Sun

Rene Descartes Dream Argument
Rene Descartes was a French philosopher and scientist. He is famous for his method of doubt
which is he decided not believe things that are not sure or slightly doubted, he wished to believe
things that cannot be doubted and he knew absolutely certain about these things. So the big goal
for Descartes is to find one foundational belief and one can doubt that everyone who is skeptical
about it will say that is a hundred percent true. And we start build knowledge on it. The
motivation for Descartes method was he found that people always disagree with each other. He
wants us all can agree on this one foundation belief, one central belief then we can resolve this
conflict. Descartes also gave an example to illustrate his opinion: if you have an... Show more

In the text, he said we have to take everything you think you know, everything you think is true
and doubt it. Be skeptical about any claim. If there is any possibility, even it super small chance
that the belief is wrong. We still treated it as entirely false. Because we are looking for a belief
that are a hundred percent certain about. However, there is something we are not sure or slight be
doubt about it, for instance, why two add two equal four. He knew this is truth but he didn t know
why this is true, so he created the demon argument. He said I will suppose not a supremely good
God, the source of truth, but rather an evil genius, supremely powerful and clever, who has
directed his entire effort at deceiving me. I understand this argument but we are also not a
hundred percent sure whether there is a evil demon actually exist or not. Besides, if Descartes
ignore everything he is not sure about it, he may also ignore some truth even if it s not with
absolutely certainty. In the world, there will always be something we can t explain. So just
because we can t prove it, doesn t mean it s totally false. The danger if his method of doubt is he
may miss some truths. I also have some concerns about Descartes Cogito, he said what makes us
human is our minds. And my question is does it mean we are not human if we don t have our

The Tale Of The Crazed Hook Man Or Death By Tanning Bed
Urban legends exist in every society and change with the times adapting to the new innovations
that occur. An urban legend is a story that has been passed down through generations with the
intention of being informative whether it causes fear or joy. The only problem with urban
legends is the fact that they are so hard to be proven true. Sometimes they have actual events
attached with them but are obviously false; people try to attach relevant topics to legends to
make them more believable. Some examples of these are the tale of the crazed Hook man or
death by tanning bed. Each was related to some kind of event that was popular but it made it more
believable. The legend that has caught my eye is the tale of the Hookman because it causes fearand
creates an atmosphere that is similar to a foggy night: thick and visibility is limited. The legend
adds a sense of fear and anxiety, which will discussed in the latter part of the paper. The main
focus is to show what causes these two emotions and how they relate to the myth. The Hook man
legend is about when a couple at the local Lover s Lane hears on the radio about an escaped
mental patient. This patient has been said to be headed in the direction of their location and one
hand has been replaced with a meat hook. After hearing this, the girl becomes frightened and wants
to be taken home, but at first her boyfriend doesn t want to leave. She persisted that she be taken

Great Smog Of London And The Scientific Implications In...
The Great Smog of London and the Scientific Implications in Today s World
Turn of the century London, the emergence of the middle class has forced the cultural bias to
shift in favor of more homes, more people, and a lot of energy consumption. Science s solution
to the energy crisis is a seemingly perfect one: distribute and utilize a more available fuel. Coal
burned slower than wood and therefore kept people and homes warm more resourcefully. For a
while it seemed like a miracle solution. The industrialization of the previous age had been using
coal as well, and when the air became polluted with the factory and energy refuse, the smog was
swept away in a matter of hours (Kilen, C.) That went on until early winter of 1952. That fall
had been an unusually cold one, and the coal had been burning day and night. The factories had
been chugging on, and the black smoke kept rolling. The process by which factories burn coal is
as follows: the coal is blown into the furnace where it burns while still airborne. The heat is used to
warm water, which then produces steam, which spines a turbine. The factories that burn coal now
use methods to slightly lessen the pollution, such as wet limestone to absorb the sulfur (How Coal
Works, Union of Concerned Scientists, p.4). This particular winter, though, the pollutants would
not be swept away as they had been in the past. This is due to the fact that on this particularly cold
December, an inversion occurred over the city of London. An

Technology Is A Hindrance In Modern Society
In the 21st Century many individuals argue that technology has made life easier and assist humans
by increased efficiency and productivity. However, they fail to realize that although technology has
become a cornerstone in modern society, it has also become a hindrance in many aspects. The
dictionary defines technologyas the machinery and equipment developed from the application of
scientific knowledge. Scientific inventions are man made, as a result, it is flawed and has its
adverse effects. The advancement of technology has damaged society. It has prompted human
beings to be less physically active, which in turn decreases human to human interactions and as a
result of individuals being smart device stricken, it jeopardizes their privacy and safety.
Presently, the advancement of technology has resulted in the decrease of physical activity.
Humans have become lazy because they are overly dependent on their handheld devices. Which
in turn results in the decrease of brain power and human intellect. Many people do not take the
liberty to learn anything anymore because it is easily accessible on their smart devices.
Knowledge, information and just about anything else is at the hands of the common man by way
of technology. Therefore, there is no need for humans to do the extra. Information is accessed in
2.5 seconds via the world wide web. Scholars do not even bother buying the newspaper, books or
any educational material anymore. Individuals can lie down in their beds and

U.s. Covert Operations Enacted During The Soviet...
In the wake of the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks, former President George W. Bush gave a
speech that resonated with millions of people. America was targeted for attack because we re
the brightest beacon for freedom and opportunity in the world, said Bush. This rhetoric became
a popular opinion which still lasts today. However, it is misleading. The true events that
produced the 9/11 attacks are not realized by most Americans. In reality, the September 11th
terrorist attacks were a product of the history of U.S. foreign policy in the Middle East,
particularly regarding the covert operations enacted during the Soviet occupation of
Afghanistan. To understand the complicated sequence of events that led to 9/11, one first must
understand how United States foreign policy is made and enacted. U.S. foreign policy is largely
made by a very select group of officials, including the President. This is referred to as the deep
state . The deep state is the idea of a government within the government that enforces federal
actions and has the ability to override public policy. No one is elected for the position, and there
are certainly no checks and balances. These actions include covert operations, which are secret
operations that may even be illegal. The illegality of these operations and the entire organization
are protected via cover up. Ultimately, the deep state allows special interests to dominate and
corrupt U.S. foreign policy. The impact of these special interests is

Cross-Cultural Communication Essay
Cross Cultural Communication
Introduction
In business, successful communication is the key to success, and being able to relate to a customer
is the best form of communication. This is why cross cultural communication is so important as the
business world continues to globalize itself. Unfortunately, A lack of awareness about the culturally
prescribed rules and norms of communication behaviors can cause public relations projects to fail,
or worse, backfire. (Zaharna, 2001, p.135).
My research is focused on the problems associated with cross cultural communication and how
awareness of culture, language, tradition, and business practices can increase the advantages to
globalization. This report will be field specific in ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Introduction: In every type of business, how people are able to communicate dictates the success
of the company. If all aspects of the business are not able to keep each other informed on important
issues and breaking news, then the company is destined to fail. For my research report I have
decided to focus my efforts on the issue of communication in the Beer Wholesaling industry. For
over a year now I have been involved with the beer industry working in both promotions, and in
merchandising. Even in that small window of time I have seen forms of communication change.
This change has lead to both the creation, and the solution to many communication problems in this
workplace.
I plan to study how the changing methods of communication have altered the beer wholesale
business, and worked to solve and create problems. Over the past 10 years we have seen a
revolution in how people in the work force are able to communicate. First car phones and then cell
phones made contacting others much easier, and now computers are affecting everything through
email and the Internet. The beer business, much like other business, is built mainly on the strength
of communication. Brewers must communicate with wholesalers who in turn must be in constant
communication with storeowners. If one of these lines of communications breaks down then a too
much beer might be brewed for a season, or a liquor store may end up with

Intensive Individual and Group Cognitive Behavioural Therapy for Obsessive Compulsive Disorder
This article highlights the experience of a 46 year old woman with obsessive compulsive
disorder, and how adding cognitive behavioral therapy to her treatment benefits her. Obsessive
compulsive disorder is a disorder which affects approximately 2 to 3 percent of the population
(Salkovskis, 2007) (Taylor Reeder, 2015). Cognitive behavioral therapyis a method of treatment
recommended by the National Institute for Health and Clinical Excellence, with the results
proving to be effective ( Abramowitz, Foa, Franklin, 2003; Anderson Rees, 2007; Department of
Health, 2001; NICE, 2006; Storch et al., 2008) (Taylor Reeder, 2015). Likewise, group cognitive
behavioral therapy is a proven effective treatment for OCD, with similar results shown from
individual cognitive behavioral therapy (Hougaard, 2009) (Anderson Rees, 2007) (Taylor Reeder,
2015).
The participant completed a questionnaire prior to treatment, and then again upon commencement
of treatment (Taylor Reeder, 2015). Ultimately she completed a total of 18 hours of therapy over
the course of four weeks (Taylor Reeder, 2015). During the course of treatment, the participant did
indicate improvements in her OCD and anxiety. However, her improvements did tend to fluctuate
over the course of treatment (Taylor Reeder, 2015).

The Feminist Approach
Feminist literary criticism is approach that is most concerned with the role of women within the
context of literature. This includes how female characters are created and understood within any
given text, in addition to the role of female authors and female readers. This paper shall focus on
some of the theoretical concepts which have been contributed to the feminist literary discourse. It
shall compare and contrast aspects of theory put forth by three prominent feminist critics, while also
considering the arguments raised by three Г©criture feminine scholars. The feminist critics to be

Showalter also refers to this approach as gynocritics , appropriated from the French terminology
la gyncritique (147). What this approach relies upon for its focus of analysis is the role women
themselves play in the creation and understanding of literature. The focus then is upon literature
created by women themselves, and is not limited in its analysis to female characters because of
this. Showalter describes this approach as more self contained and experimental, with connections
to other modes of new feminist research (147). One of the majour goals in literary criticism that
the gynocritic approach aims for is the creation of a specialized language unique to the criticism of
female created literature. This is required, Showalter describes, in order to truly step away from the
male dominated rhetoric often associated and employed in the criticism otherwise. The third
feminist critique to discuss is put forth by the theorists Sandra Gilbert and Susan Gubar, from their
text, The Madwoman in the Attic . Within this text, Gilbert and Gubar discuss the phenomenon in
male authored texts of creating two very distinct binary roles which categorize their female
characters. The female characters within these texts are either angels, so to speak, or monsters. As
Gilbert and Gubar identify, for every angelically selfless Snow White must be

A Self Care Plan to Prevent Compassion Fatigue
A Plan For Self Care Against Compassion Fatigue

Working in the helping field has its many joys and privileges. Seeing a child, whose self esteem is
at the bottom, light up when he/she accomplishes a new task, see the growth an alcohol and drug
addict has made in treatment, or to see the family, that when they entered the door of your office,
was on the verge of separation, but now are communicating and working out their own needs with

Another preventative step for the social worker is to seek out individual therapy for himself as a
manner in which to deal with the stressors associated with the helping profession. This has been
highly recommended by several instructors during my masters level education.
When I consider the risk factors discussed, I find that my weight and overall physical health are
most significant in placing me at risk of compassion fatigue. Failing to have a nutritious diet has
caused an increase in weight and multiple lower level health needs such as back pains and
headaches. When you factor this in with the stress of working a full time job and being a full time
student, it compounds the problem as eating tends to be my coping mechanism of choice. I also
have minimal intimate friendships due to lack of time to engage with others outside the workplace.
A lack of these intimate relationships fails to provide me an outlet to the stress that is outside my
family. Given the source of the stress is at work, confidentiality limits what I can and cannot say to
my wife.
With those risk factors, two protective factors that I see benefiting me is my spiritual support
system and sense of strong professional boundaries. My faith has pulled me through so much.
Having a solid foundation in my faith has allowed me to always return to what it is that I believe
and remember that it is my relationship with

Slaughterhouse Five Essay
Kurt Vonnegut s novel, Slaughterhouse Five is a compelling story of war effects on the human
mind. Vonnegut s experiences cause him to become an alcoholic and unable to sleep at night due to
the guilt of surviving WW2 and Dresden. Vonnegut s shattered self from the war transfer to creating
Billy s apathetic nature. Through the non linear way of presentation and Vonnegut s insertion of
himself inside the book, Vonnegut creates an illusion of reality inside the fictitious world of Billy

between war effects on Vonnegut s life and Billy s state of mind due to the injustices of war.

The structure of the story aids to the effectiveness of the jumps between reality and fiction as
though others may see it in a linear succession war soldiers(Vonnegut) states there is no linearity,
right or wrong in war and that is is jumbled and jangled (24). The bird call poo tee weet is also
used to drive the point that war and massacre can t be justified and logically proclaimed. Poo tee
weet? is the ending of the book as well and its phrasing as a question after the Dresden bombing
in order to drive the effects of war on Dresden (275). Animals like the bird are symbols for the
innocent people of Dresden emphasizes the injustices of war on the innocent which also affects the
mentality of the surviving soldiers of war. Later in the book Vonnegut inserts an epigraph,
everything was beautiful and nothing hurt which Vonnegut states would make a good epigraph for
Billy Pilgrim and for me too (155). At a glance the epigraph seems like an encouraging line to
appreciate everything around, however, by connecting the epigraph with Billy and Vonnegut, it
expresses the numbness towards the world. It is very ironic as well

America s Lack Of Economic Equality
America suffers from a lack of economic equality; the population is divided into social classes. Per
Mantsios, the upper fifteen percent control eighty five percent of the nations wealth. This attributes
the other eighty five percent of the population the remaining fifteen percent of the nations wealth.
The people born into a high economic standing can afford better educationwhich prepares them for
better jobs. And those who are born into a lower economic standing are more expected to enter
low income schools and conditioned for labor jobs. Higher income families, those of the fifteen
percent, are more likely to have children that will obtain a better education. This leaves the other
eighty five percent of the population that make up the lower and middle classto seemingly reduced
education and public schooling which is only available for free up until the twelfth grade. The
population consisting of the lower class, who can t afford higher education, are less likely to
continue to go to college; this only narrows their options for jobs. Those in the upper classwill have
a better education and obtain higher positions in companies than those in the lower class.
Educational development is a very important step in life; it seems that people are judged everyday
especially on their education. Parents seem to go through extensive procedures to get their children
through the best education possible, just to help them succeed in life. It s no surprise that schools

The Importance Of Character Demeanor In Wide Sargasso Sea
The Mind Within: How Character Demeanor is influenced by the World Outside Setting plays a
crucial role in the development of a novel, as it gives readers insight within the book through its
ability to evoke emotion from characters and readers alike, as well as reflect the society in which
the characters exist. In Jean Rhys Wide Sargasso Sea, the setting is used to allow characters to
perceive the environment around them, which influences behaviour through the connection of
understanding between the character and nature of the framework in which they thrive. Throughout
the novel, setting is used to alter characters views about the world around them, which influences
the demeanor of characters through its ability to evoke uncertainties concerning the world around
them, affect development of identity through perception of the nature of the environment, and
foreshadow events that lead to changes in the awareness of characters. Rochester s limited
understanding about the world around him represents the way setting conjures uncertainties within
the perception of characters to influence behaviour. Rochester is portrayed as a man who finds
Jamaica to be an alluring yet oddly mysterious place. He speaks of the area and the people who
live within it as lovely... but sly, spiteful, malignant (Rhys, 36). This stresses Rochester s
uncertainties, as he looks upon Jamaica as a land of beauty, yet feels uncertain about its appeal as
he calls it lovely, yet counteracts this immediately,

Radicalism In Charlie Hebdo
Analysis:
Charlie Hebdo is a French satirical weekly magazine founded in 1970. It first started as a
companion to Hara Kiri, another French satirical magazine whose slogan was BГЄte et mГ©chant
(Dumb and nasty) which are words that Charlie Hebdo has been living by after Hara Kiri s last
published issue in 1986. Hebdo s characteristic cartoons, reports and jokes could be described as
polemic since they are based on the controversy that religion, politics and culture hold. However,
they describe themselves as secular1, atheists2, left winged3 and anti racist4. In French journalism,
Charlie Hebdo is part of a tradition that according to BBC s Hugh Schofield, combines left wing
radicalism with a provocative scurrility that often borders on the obscene 1. Schofield notes that in

Overview Of The Balanced Scorecard
1.Overview of the Balanced Scorecard Organisations, in order to increase performance, profitability,
efficiency and to gain a competitive advantage, will benefit from a good strategic performance
measurement system to ensure that lower level managers are acting in a way that is consistent with
top managers goals and whole organisation s strategy. One the dominant system is the balanced
scorecard framework (Hill, Jones Schilling, 2015, p.376). The Balanced Scorecard (BSC) is defined
as a tool that translates an organisation s mission, objectives and strategies into performance
measures. It is used to implement strategy and to monitor and manage performance, and may form
part of the organisation s planning cycle (Smith et al, 2015, p.621). The BSC allows managers to
look at an organisation from four important perspectives, financial, customer, internal business, and
employee learning and growth, which are critical for running the organisation and creating value
(Smith et al, 2015, p.621). The BSC performance measurement system delivers the following
benefits, it: Transforms organisation s strategy into operations Brings into line everyone day to day
work in organisation to strategy Synthesis financial and non financial reporting Indicates and

Essay on The Woman Warrior, by Maxine Hong Kingston
The theme of voiceless woman throughout the book the woman warrior is of great importance.
Maxine Kingston narrates several stories in which gives clear examples on how woman in her
family are diminished and silenced by Chinese culture. The author not only provides a voice for
herself but also for other women in her family and in her community that did not had the
opportunity to speak out and tell their stories.
The author starts the book with the story of her aunt. This story was a well kept family secret being

After so many years of being subjected by other people, she finally took her life into her own
hands and made an attempt to be happy.
According to the book, this woman gave birth to a baby which was a symbol of embarrassment
and humiliation not only for the villagers but for all the family. Even though this baby did not
have any notion of what was going on, she was still a victim of Chinese norms. This baby also
became forgotten being that she was not given the opportunity to be alive. Kingston s aunt
decision of killing the baby, had to do greatly with the fact that she was girl. As the book states it
was probably a girl; there is some hope for forgiveness for boys . Without any doubt, if the baby
was given the opportunity to live she would have been mistreated and condemned all her life. She
would not have had the opportunity to developed her own identity or raise her own voice .
Additionally, another example that implies that Kingston aunt had no voice is when the author
states, The work of preservation demands that the feelings playing about in one s guts not to be

be interpreted that a women s feelings and wishes were not allowed to be turned into reality or to

Buddhism In Japan
In Japan, Buddhist temples are places for paying reverence to objects of spiritual worship as well
as other religious activities and observances.
Buddhist temple composites originated in India, where the main structures were quarters known as
vihara, where monks engaged in religious training. There were also chaitya halls for worshiping
Buddhist images, and rounded stupas said to enshrine bits of bone (sarira, or shari in Japanese)
from the historical Buddha, Siddhartha Gautama. Buddhist temples in Japan developed a unique
individuality after incorporating influences from China and Korea. During the Asuka and Nara
periods, many temples had a design following the Shitennoji model, centering around a tower like

The halls that housed Buddhist images gradually took a central position and pagodas were given
the decorative structures role, like in the Yakushiji and Todaiji Temples in Nara. The forms of
temple compounds became more diverse with the spread of esoteric Buddhism (mikkyo) in the
Heian period as well as the spread of the raigo concept. The appearance of Amida Halls with
attached gardens in a single compound, inspired by the desire to produce replicas of Amida s
Western Paradise of the Pure Land , had surfaced. The Phoenix Hall (Hoodo) of the Byodoin south
of Kyoto is the most famous structure of this type. New temple styles were adopted from the Asian
continent due to the popularity of Zen in the Muromachi period. Numerous imposing Zen
compounds were also constructed at this time. While large cultural centers like Kyoto have several
thousands of temples, virtually every Japanese municipality has at least one temple. Buddhist
objects are stored and displayed at temples. Some temples were formerly monasteries, and some still
function as such. Structures typically found at Japanese temples are:

thought these things but went out and took action to stop them. Emma Watson uses her social
media influence to enact change in genderequality. Mother Jones used peaceful protests, such as
marching to inform more individuals on the dark secrets of child labor. And Mahatma Gandhi
developed Satyagraha, the use of non violent civil disobedience to defend racial rights. These three
individuals fought for various human rightsin similar peaceful ways while striving to make an
impact in the world around them.
Emma Watson was appointed UN female ambassador and has been giving speeches and using
her platform in the media to fight for an end to gender inequality since 2014. She says, I started
questioning gender based assumptions when at eight I was confused at being called bossy,
because I wanted to direct the plays we would put on for our parents but the boys were not .
Along with many other occasions throughout her childhood Emma did not understand why she
had to act a certain way just because she was born with a pink blanket and not a blue one. Emma

Why Did The US Housing Market Collapse
Once the US housing market collapsed, it created a credit crisis and crunch in the wider
financial markets. Due to the complexity of CDOs many people had no idea how much they
were really worth. Many of the CDOS were worthless and it was almost impossible to find the
value of them (7). This led to a moral hazard problem whereby there was an overall caution of
banks because many had no idea if they were even bankrupt. Inevitably, the interbank lending
system crumbled whereby some banks stopped lending to each other and to corporations altogether
or only lent with very high interest rates. Many banks who relied on interbank lending for money
were heavily affected by this including Northern Rock. Inevitably, depositors of these banks become

Essay on Image of African American Women
Image of African American Women Despite the strong presence of the beautiful, powerful, black
women in the media, such as Michelle Obama, Oprah Winfrey, and BeyoncГ© Knowles, African
American females have been deemed unattractive in society s eyes. These notions did not develop
overnight, but remain as obstacles birthed from slavery. These stereotypes keep the black female
incarcerated under the belief that they are not beautiful. However, black women have fought and
are fighting these harmful perceptions in many different ways. My project will focus on two
artists in particular, Maya Angelou and Kara Walker. I will look at three poems of Maya Angelou,

Black female entertainers avoided form fitting gowns while performing in order to gain respect as
African American women (Feldstein 27). They utilized their natural hair to confront and denounce
the negative and false presumptions regarding the black image (Feldstein 27). Black female artists
wanted their audience to recognize that they were black women in order to break the racially
barriers, disassemble the erroneous portrayals, and reconstruct the black image (Feldstein 27).
After review the past actions, I will assess the actions that are being taken currently. Tal Dekel s, In
Sex, Race, and Gender: Contemporary Women Artists of Color, the Case of Kara Walker,
focuses on the black females sexuality and how an African American artist, Kara Walker, works
to remodel the image of black women and the black community as a whole. Historically, back in
19th century colonialism, black women were depicted as overtly sexual shameless creatures,
leading to the denial of their own sexuality and the distortion of the African American female
image (Dekel 83). Kara Walker uses graphic images in her artwork to emphasize how African
American women are wrongly eroticized into characters of sexual value only (Dekel 84). She
recreates these stereotypes of the past and provides a visual image of the foundation of these
stereotypes in order to break down that same foundation (Dekel 85). The writings of Patton and
Dekel are all similar on their arguments

Competitive Advantage And Competitive Advantages
With the breakneck advancements in today s market, having sustainable competitive advantage has
become imperative so as to survive. The metamorphosis of technology has made the job further
challenging to have a competitive advantage and sustain it. Competitive advantage is defined as an
idiosyncratic lead a firm has over its fellow challengers and emulators. This lead enables the firm to
vanquish its challenger. In other words it is something that distinguishes an organization from the
competitors. For a competitive advantage to be sustainable, the firm has create value creating
products or services that cannot be mirrored or matched by its fellow competitors and thereby it
will able to outlast for a longer period of time (Bharadwaj, S, Varadarajan, P, Fahy, J 1993)
Sustainable competitive advantage entirely depends on how an organization performs in a
competitive environment. In order to sustain and consolidate the company s position, innovation
becomes crucial. Companies should be in a position to embrace the changes in order to be abreast
of the competition and hold its position (Daniela, P ,2014). Apart from innovation, the internal and
the external forces along with the knowledge managementform the vital factors. For an organization
to gain the competitive advantage and sustain it, it has to innovate and globalize the vital factors
mentioned.
Theories:
Let us discuss these factors with theories

Summary Of Two Kinds By Amy Tan
Like many immigrants think, America is the land of opportunity. People from all over the world,
flee from their birth homes, wishing for a better life. Many parents seek to find a life for their
children, a life they never had. However, the shift of environment is harsh for many
families; with hard work they have little luck. One can be successful if they act in a manner that
best suits them. On the other hand, if they are goaded to do what they aren t passionate for,
they can t expect an outcome. Amy Tan in her short story, Two kinds Mei Woo s mother tries to

In addition, Jing Mei says, then I saw what seemed to be the prodigy side of me (2).
Unlike Chinese culture, Jing Mei starts to revolt against her mother. As a result of her mother
living vicariously through her, Jing Mei starts to act defiant. Furthermore, there is a tension
between the first generation, American daughter and her immigrant mother. At this point of the
Hero s Journey, Campbell describes what is needed as preparation for the quest, preparations
like, supplies, helpers, information (The Heros Journey 2). In this case, Mei Woo brings along
her Ego in order to have her mother lose hope. However, her mother quickly picked up
something new, as she watched the Ed Sullivan show her mother, seemed entranced by the
music, a frenzied little piano piece (Two Kinds 2). Although Mei Woo frequently failed her
expectations, not showing promise in any field her mother finally decides that she will become a
pianist.
As a pianist, her career was a failure and thus we move into the climax of this story. On
page three her mother slapped her and accused her of being ungrateful. In addition as her piano
lessons continued, Mei Woo continued her journey further into the abyss. Jing Mei

W.E.B. DuBois The Souls of Black Folk Essay
W.E.B. DuBois The Souls of Black Folk
W.E.B. DuBois, in The Souls of Black Folk describes the very poignant image of a veil between
the blacks and the whites in his society. He constructs the concept of a double consciousness,
wherein a black person has two identities as two completely separate individuals, in order to
demonstrate the fallacy of these opinions. J.S. Mill also describes a certain fallacy in his own
freedom of thought, a general conception of individuals that allows them to accept something
similar to DuBois double consciousness and perpetuates the existence of the veil.
DuBois double consciousness is quite simply the twoness of American Negroes. It is this sense of
always looking at one s self through the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As DuBois looks through the veil, he can see a world that he loves, but cannot belong to because it
belongs to the whites. The veil perpetuates the concept of alienation from the world to which he
knows he will never belong. From the other side, whites look through at blacks, and construct their
own opinions of the opposing race, and in doing so, create an opinion that is accepted by blacks
themselves. The distortion created by the veil muddles the world of the whites and also the self
knowledge within each individual on the black side of the veil.
This sort of idea is the same thing that Mill critiques in the early parts of On Liberty. Mill
discusses that few think it necessary to take any precautions against their own fallibility, or
admit the supposition that any opinion, of which they feel very certain, may be one of the
examples of error to which they acknowledge themselves to be liable. (Mill 615). Herein lies the
problem of the whites, as over time they have come to accept their own ideas of the blacks in the
United States without accepting the possibility of their own fallibility. Mill would argue that
dissenting voices need to be heard in order to bring forth the right opinions, but with the veil the
DuBois discusses, this is an impossibility. Mill discusses the infallibility of the the world in
general (Mill 615) that is accepted by individuals living in a particular place.

Detection And Prevention System For Cloud Infrastructure
Abstract In this era of technology when everything is available at just one click; Security is a big
issue. Hackers and intruders are getting smarter. There are various methods to protect the network
infrastructure as well as communication over the internet, for example firewalls, encryption, and
virtual private networks. Intrusion detectionis a comparatively new approach to such techniques. By
using intrusion detection, we can collect and use information from acknowledged attacks and
figure out if somebody is trying to attack the network/host. In this paper, we have classified
different types of IDS. Also we have proposed a hybrid model for intrusion detection and prevention
system for cloud infrastructure, which has improved the quality of detecting the unidentified attack
via anomaly based detection along with a module which will try to diminish the number of false
alarms which are generated by the system. Our proposed system finds random attacks in network
and prevents these attacks automatically using the mechanism.
Keywords Intrusion detection system, Security, K learning algorithm, Snort tool, Prevention,
Network.
I.INTRODUCTION
Attacks on the nation s computer infrastructures are becoming gradually more severe problem.
Although the problem is ubiquitous, administrations are predominantly appealing objectives as
well as they are inclined to be more willing to disclose such events than business associations.

  • 3. The Portrayal Of Female Characters In Lysistrata By... Given just the plot of Lysistrata, one might think that Lysistrata by Aristophanes is a highly progressive comedy in which women are empowered and are given meaning beyond the household. Unfortunately, as one starts to delve deeper into the story, there are many things that point the over way, mainly the portrayal of secondary female characters, the women s overall willingness to discount their non physical features and the peace making scene around the end of the story. The events in the play encourage the notion that the best thing young women have going for them is their bodies. In the beginning of the play, it is pointed out that the women present during the pact all have very nice bodies. As each women arrives this is the first thing Lysistrataand Kleonike notice; they make it abundantly clear in the conversation as well. (Aristophanes, 356) While Lysistrata is telling her about her plan, Kleonike even says Wisdom for women? There is nothing cosmic about cosmetics and glamor is our only talent. All we can do is sit, primped and painted, made up and dressed up. (Aristophanes, 353) Even though, the women gain power in the play by withholding sex from the men, they also withhold sex from themselves. Their struggles with coping with the temporary abstinence is demonstrated by frequent complaining among the women and, later, the averted endangerment of the movement as a result of some women trying to ditch the effort. As an organization, we have a range of duties, responsibilities and obligations, from the PCBU, management, HSR personnel, officers and workers. Everyone has a responsibility and duty to themselves and each other. As you are aware, a supervisor from our company attempted to hold a meetingto discuss a specific hazard and he came across multiple barriers that hindered him in his goal. This report will identify our legislative requirements for consultation and participation, processes that we could implement internally and externally, and my input if I am given the authority and resources by management. There are several legislative requirements for consultation and participation. According to the WHS Act 2012 Section 47 (1), The person conducting a business or undertaking must, so far as is reasonably practicable, consult, in accordance with this Division and the regulations, with workers who carry out work for the business or undertaking who are, or are likely to be, directly affected by a matter relating to work health or safety. This dutyplaced on the PCBU is based on the fact that worker input and participation in WHS policies improves outcomes for workers and reduces work related injuries. I think Like Water For Chocolate is a feminist novel because the two main characters in the novel exhibit characteristics that represent what a feminist is. Feminism is the belief that women and men should have equal rights and opportunities. Tita and Gertrudis show through their behavior, actions, and language that they believe that women should be able to live a life with the same rights and opportunities as men. The first reason Tita supports my belief that Like Water For Chocolateis a feminist novel is that she demonstrated her feminism by rejecting conforms to social norms for female behavior and choosing instead her equal right to fully love Pedro by having an ... In John 6:47, the author states, I am telling you the truth: he who believes has eternal life (NIV). John 4:1 26 directly shows how if you are willing believe in him, you will have eternal life. Jesus will ignore any circumstances of an individual to show his love. Typhoid fever is a systemic infection caused by the serotype Salmonella typhi and can be fatal without proper intervention. Instances of resistant typhoid are high in less developed countries. Resistance occurs when genetic mutations prevent antibiotic mechanisms of action, making current antibiotics less effective. The purpose of this drug screen was to target oncological drugs and diversity library compounds to identify novel antibiotic substances. To perform the initial drug screen, we exposed Salmonellatyphimurium to various compounds and chemotherapeutic drugs. The positive and negative controls were ampicillin and Dimethyl sulfoxide (DMSO), respectively. We used spectrophotometry to measure the growth of salmonella in the plate. Hits were identified as compounds with an absorbance below 2 standard deviations of the mean DMSO value, meaning that hits would have an absorbance below 0.065. We identified that the FDA approved drug capecitabine had an average absorbance of 0.035. To perform a dosing series, capecitabine was diluted in a 1:2 ratio, making 13 dilutions total. The dosing series revealed that capecitabine is most effective at doses lower than 6.25 ОјM. The ground was uneven as I ran to my destination; whether that was home or work I can not quite remember. Consequently, I just knew I needed to arrive there and quickly. Thunder boomed again, but this time it was different. Ahead a flash of lightning struck, blinding me, causing my eyes to close for a split second, then I felt a breath of air tickle my neck. I shut my eyes tight, terrified to turn around as goose bumps crawled up my arms. Nevertheless, I turned around slowly opening my eyes, but there was only darkness surrounding me. I fell to my knees, overcome with fatigue and dizziness. When it passed a new door stood in front of me though this time it was as tall as a toddler. Curious, I made myself as tiny as I could wondering if I could fit. One arm made it through the door when suddenly the sound of a chainsaw echoed throughout the hall. Too late I realized it was coming from the door. A scream of agony escaped my mouth as the chainsaw penetrated my skin and slowly sawed my arm in half. Stop! Please make it stop! I could not handle it any longer as the pain shot up my whole body. Then, with a loud clunk my arm landed on the floor next to me. The pain from my arm numbed me to the bone, tears streamed down my face finally turning into a waterfall of tears. Hmm. Melody, I like the taste of that name, a silky voiced resonated around me. They are more likely to need special education classes later in life, though, and more likely to have to repeat a grade in school. This is most likely because some premature infants have been shown to have some cognitive impairment when compared to full term infants of the same age. Their memories are not as good, and their information processing speed is significantly lower. There have been many studies performed that compare the cognitive performance of preterm infants with full term infants. One study in particular, performed by Susan A. Rose and Judith F. Feldman, tested the memory and the processing speed of preterm children versus full term children at the age of eleven. They used the Colorado Specific Abilities Test, which is a comparison of eight paper and pencil tasks the child must perform. This test showed the degree of these four abilities: memory, perceptual speed, spatial ability, and verbal ability. They also used the Cognitive Abilities Test (CAT) which is a detailed exam of memory and speed. • 16. Expansionism As A Policy Of Promoting Economic Growth Expansionism is a policy of promoting economic growth. The main concern arises when expanding territory does not prove to be beneficial to all races, as its growth in territory may simply be destruction for others. The expansionism and encroachment forced by capitalists can ultimately be categorized as oppression and white superiority, as it resulted in the deterioration of culture, natural rights, and mental stability for the Native Americans. The interests of the white capitalists to acquire Western land limited the natural rights of the Native Americans. It is the beliefs of white superiority and falsified authority that lead to the mistreatment of indigenous people like the Native Americans. Several incidents in American history present white capitalists neglecting the opinions and rights of Indians, for profit and expansionism, as An estimated two million indigenous people in the United Stateswere reduced, through slaughter, starvation, and disease, to less than a quarter of a million people by 1900 (Kratzer). Although the Treaty of Fort Laramie of 1868 stated that no white person or persons shall be permitted to enter the Black Hills, the administration of Ulysses S. This image is similar to what is seen in many popular Western paintings in museums like the 16th century painting, Christ Among the Doctors by artist Albrecht Durrer. In this painting the fair skinned Jesuslooks celestial and divine amongst the dark, sinister Jewish scholars. But what all of these famous pieces of art have in common is that they fail to portray who Jesus truly was: a practicing Jewish man from Nazareth, Israel. There are also no physical descriptions of how they look in religious texts either. This makes it very easy for people around the world practice the religion and feel included. Since there is no physical depiction, every devotee is free to contextualize the religion in any way relating it to themselves. However that is not the only option. Some religions like Hinduism have gods that are depicted in colors that do not pertain to any particular race. Although Hinduism is widely popular in India, the physical depictions do not only pertain to Indians. Many pieces of Hindu art displays gods like Krishna or Vishnu as blue gods. The god Hanuman is also sometimes depicted to be a red god in popular forms of Hindu art and in many sculptures. The Blackfoot tribe was sometimes known as the classic example of the Plains Indians. The BlackfootIndians initially migrated from the Great Lakes region and now live in Montanaand some of Canada. There is a lot of history behind the Blackfoot tribe that I am sure a lot of people are unaware of. The Blackfoot tribe first learned about and got their first horses and riles in 1700, also during that time they traveled along the Rocky Mountains. In 1851 there was a treaty that was called the Fort Laramie Treaty of 1851. The Blackfoot tribe was not one of the tribes that attended the negotiation of this treaty, but it still greatly affected their tribe. Article 5 of the Treaty defined the territory of this tribe and used the Musselshell, Missouri, Yellowstone Rivers, and the Rocky Mountain Range as markers of this territory. In 1873 and 1874, President Grant made Executive Orders shrinking reservation lands. The 1873 Order diminished the 1851 and 1855 treaty lands and created an entire reservation for the Blackfoot, Gros Ventre, Assiniboine, and Sioux. However, there is something we are not sure or slight be doubt about it, for instance, why two add two equal four. Besides, if Descartes ignore everything he is not sure about it, he may also ignore some truth even if it s not with absolutely certainty. In the world, there will always be something we can t explain. So just because we can t prove it, doesn t mean it s totally false. The danger if his method of doubt is he may miss some truths. An urban legend is a story that has been passed down through generations with the intention of being informative whether it causes fear or joy. The only problem with urban legends is the fact that they are so hard to be proven true. Sometimes they have actual events attached with them but are obviously false; people try to attach relevant topics to legends to make them more believable. Some examples of these are the tale of the crazed Hook man or death by tanning bed. Each was related to some kind of event that was popular but it made it more believable. The legend that has caught my eye is the tale of the Hookman because it causes fearand creates an atmosphere that is similar to a foggy night: thick and visibility is limited. The legend adds a sense of fear and anxiety, which will discussed in the latter part of the paper. The main focus is to show what causes these two emotions and how they relate to the myth. The Hook man legend is about when a couple at the local Lover s Lane hears on the radio about an escaped mental patient. The Great Smog of London and the Scientific Implications in Today s World Turn of the century London, the emergence of the middle class has forced the cultural bias to shift in favor of more homes, more people, and a lot of energy consumption. Science s solution to the energy crisis is a seemingly perfect one: distribute and utilize a more available fuel. Coal burned slower than wood and therefore kept people and homes warm more resourcefully. For a while it seemed like a miracle solution. The industrialization of the previous age had been using coal as well, and when the air became polluted with the factory and energy refuse, the smog was swept away in a matter of hours (Kilen, C.) That went on until early winter of 1952. That fall had been an unusually cold one, and the coal had been burning day and night. The factories had been chugging on, and the black smoke kept rolling. The process by which factories burn coal is as follows: the coal is blown into the furnace where it burns while still airborne. The heat is used to warm water, which then produces steam, which spines a turbine. The factories that burn coal now use methods to slightly lessen the pollution, such as wet limestone to absorb the sulfur (How Coal Works, Union of Concerned Scientists, p.4). This particular winter, though, the pollutants would not be swept away as they had been in the past. This is due to the fact that on this particularly cold December, an inversion occurred over the city of London. An ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

This rhetoric became a popular opinion which still lasts today. However, it is misleading. The true events that produced the 9/11 attacks are not realized by most Americans. In reality, the September 11th terrorist attacks were a product of the history of U.S. foreign policy in the Middle East, particularly regarding the covert operations enacted during the Soviet occupation of Afghanistan. To understand the complicated sequence of events that led to 9/11, one first must understand how United States foreign policy is made and enacted. The deep state is the idea of a government within the government that enforces federal actions and has the ability to override public policy. No one is elected for the position, and there are certainly no checks and balances. These actions include covert operations, which are secret operations that may even be illegal. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Showalter also refers to this approach as gynocritics , appropriated from the French terminology la gyncritique (147). What this approach relies upon for its focus of analysis is the role women themselves play in the creation and understanding of literature. The focus then is upon literature created by women themselves, and is not limited in its analysis to female characters because of this. Showalter describes this approach as more self contained and experimental, with connections to other modes of new feminist research (147). One of the majour goals in literary criticism that the gynocritic approach aims for is the creation of a specialized language unique to the criticism of female created literature. This is required, Showalter describes, in order to truly step away from the male dominated rhetoric often associated and employed in the criticism otherwise. The third feminist critique to discuss is put forth by the theorists Sandra Gilbert and Susan Gubar, from their text, The Madwoman in the Attic . Within this text, Gilbert and Gubar discuss the phenomenon in male authored texts of creating two very distinct binary roles which categorize their female characters. However, to believe that life is all about these positive moments and that the battles you join in with others to overcome will not have an impact on you ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Another preventative step for the social worker is to seek out individual therapy for himself as a manner in which to deal with the stressors associated with the helping profession. This has been highly recommended by several instructors during my masters level education. When I consider the risk factors discussed, I find that my weight and overall physical health are most significant in placing me at risk of compassion fatigue. Failing to have a nutritious diet has caused an increase in weight and multiple lower level health needs such as back pains and headaches. When you factor this in with the stress of working a full time job and being a full time student, it compounds the problem as eating tends to be my coping mechanism of choice. I also have minimal intimate friendships due to lack of time to engage with others outside the workplace. A lack of these intimate relationships fails to provide me an outlet to the stress that is outside my family. Given the source of the stress is at work, confidentiality limits what I can and cannot say to my wife. With those risk factors, two protective factors that I see benefiting me is my spiritual support system and sense of strong professional boundaries. My faith has pulled me through so much. Having a solid foundation in my faith has allowed me to always return to what it is that I believe and remember that it is my relationship with ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 34. America s Lack Of Economic Equality America suffers from a lack of economic equality; the population is divided into social classes. Per Mantsios, the upper fifteen percent control eighty five percent of the nations wealth. This attributes the other eighty five percent of the population the remaining fifteen percent of the nations wealth. The people born into a high economic standing can afford better educationwhich prepares them for better jobs. And those who are born into a lower economic standing are more expected to enter low income schools and conditioned for labor jobs. Higher income families, those of the fifteen percent, are more likely to have children that will obtain a better education. This leaves the other eighty five percent of the population that make up the lower and middle classto seemingly reduced education and public schooling which is only available for free up until the twelfth grade. The population consisting of the lower class, who can t afford higher education, are less likely to continue to go to college; this only narrows their options for jobs. Those in the upper classwill have a better education and obtain higher positions in companies than those in the lower class. The Importance Of Character Demeanor In Wide Sargasso Sea The Mind Within: How Character Demeanor is influenced by the World Outside Setting plays a crucial role in the development of a novel, as it gives readers insight within the book through its ability to evoke emotion from characters and readers alike, as well as reflect the society in which the characters exist. In Jean Rhys Wide Sargasso Sea, the setting is used to allow characters to perceive the environment around them, which influences behaviour through the connection of understanding between the character and nature of the framework in which they thrive. Throughout the novel, setting is used to alter characters views about the world around them, which influences the demeanor of characters through its ability to evoke uncertainties concerning the world around them, affect development of identity through perception of the nature of the environment, and foreshadow events that lead to changes in the awareness of characters. Rochester s limited understanding about the world around him represents the way setting conjures uncertainties within the perception of characters to influence behaviour. Rochester is portrayed as a man who finds Jamaica to be an alluring yet oddly mysterious place. He speaks of the area and the people who live within it as lovely... but sly, spiteful, malignant (Rhys, 36). The veil perpetuates the concept of alienation from the world to which he knows he will never belong. The distortion created by the veil muddles the world of the whites and also the self knowledge within each individual on the black side of the veil. This sort of idea is the same thing that Mill critiques in the early parts of On Liberty. Mill discusses that few think it necessary to take any precautions against their own fallibility, or admit the supposition that any opinion, of which they feel very certain, may be one of the examples of error to which they acknowledge themselves to be liable. Hackers and intruders are getting smarter. There are various methods to protect the network infrastructure as well as communication over the internet, for example firewalls, encryption, and virtual private networks. Intrusion detectionis a comparatively new approach to such techniques. By using intrusion detection, we can collect and use information from acknowledged attacks and figure out if somebody is trying to attack the network/host. In this paper, we have classified different types of IDS. Also we have proposed a hybrid model for intrusion detection and prevention system for cloud infrastructure, which has improved the quality of detecting the unidentified attack via anomaly based detection along with a module which will try to diminish the number of false alarms which are generated by the system.
