Electron Affinity And Ionization Energy
Recently in class we have discovered the meaning of electron affinity and ionization energy. We know
that ionization energy is the energy required to be absorbed when an ionic bond removes an electron
from an atom. We also know that electron affinity is how easily an atom will accept an electron into its
shells when trying to make itself neutral. This means that both of these terms play a big role when an
atom loses or gains an electron.
The ionization energy is the energy to remove an electron from an atom. A trend for ionization energy
is that it generally increases left to right across a row on the periodic table except for the noble gases
which have closed shells. For example, lithium requires only 520 kJ/mol to ionize it while helium, the
noble gas right next to it in the periodic table, requires 2372 kJ/mol. The ionization energy can be
thought of as opposite to the electronegativity of an element in the way that a low ionization energy
gives away that an element easily loses electrons to a reaction, while a high electronegativity shows
that an element strongly wants to have electrons in a reaction.
The electron affinity is an amount of energy that changes when ... Show more content on

Electron affinity, on the other hand, describes the energy that is released when an electron binds to an
atom. This tells us that since energy is released, the electron affinities will be negative. Another
example of the differences between electron affinity and ionization energy is that ionization energy is
related with making cations from neutral atoms due to the fact that it measures the amount of energy
needed to remove an electron. In contrast, electron affinity is related with making anions due to the
fact that it is the amount of energy that changes when a negative ion is formed from an electron being
added. These are two big example of how electron affinity and ionization energy are

Symptoms And Treatment Of Antidepressants
In the study patients age 20 to 64 that is diagnosed with depression and on antidepressants was used to
observe the possibility of antidepressants causing epilepsy. The data does show some links between
antidepressant use and epilepsy, even though it is inconsistent and non decisive.
Cox proportional hazards were used to analyze the first recorded diagnosis of epilepsy for the study.
Patients were picked from the QResearch primary care database. There was a total of 238,963 patients
from 687 UK practices used in the research. Patients with past history were eliminated. There was an
increase of 37% of patients that was diagnosed with their first epilepsy/seizure with antidepressants, 8
of 11 were frequently prescribed drugs. An increased risk was found with the link of antidepressants
and epilepsy/seizures on all classes of antidepressants. Patients should be evaluated and all
possibilities should be considered. More research needs to be done as these results could contain bias
information.

Antidepressant use and risk of epilepsy and seizures
With the increase of antidepressants being prescribed in the UK, in 2012, it reached over a half a
million prescriptions. Some indications have shown with the increase of antidepressants is a rise in
epilepsy/seizures, only a small number of researches have been done on people for long term use. In
the UK 1 in 100 people are diagnosed with epilepsy, the disorder is severe

Religion And Teen Views Of Gay Marriage
People who attend church regularly will be more likely to be opposed to homosexual relations, all else
being equal. Religion and views on homosexuality are closely linked. As Amy Adamczyk and Cassady
Pitt note in their research, Shaping attitudes about homosexuality: The role of religion and cultural
context, religion is often seen as an important predictor of attitudes about homosexuality. The reason
for this is because some people believe views on homosexuality are written into the Bible, and that
this provides evidence with which to justify discrimination against homosexuals. Therefore, regularly
attending church not only implies a strong affiliation and deeply held beliefs, but constant exposure to
these views. Not all religions profess the same views on homosexuality, but the most popular one, the
Catholic Church, tends to hold negative views on the subject. Albert L. Winseman s paper Religion
Colors Teen Views of Gay Marriage has also looked into this relationship, except this focuses
explicitly on youth views.
Research Design In order to retest this hypothesis, I will be using data from the GSS (General Social
Survey) 2012 dataset. The unit of analysis will be individual people. Specifically, there will be an
examination of people s church attendance, while controlling for educational status and political views
to see how church attendance may be correlated with views on homosexual sex. There will be 1,163
units that will be studied. I will be

Summitville Water Essay
The waterways can be divided into categories of water that has been affected by the Summitville mine
and water that has not been affected. Based on the location of the waterways, the Beaver Mud Dump,
the Headwaters of Wightman Fork, Schinzel Flats, Wightman Fork below mine, and the small creek
from tailings pile would be directly affected by the contamination initiated by mining activity, while
the Cattle Guard, Iron Creek, Alum Creek, Bitter Creek, and waterways around the Alamosa River
would not be affected or as affected by the mining activity (refer to Figure 1). From the data collected
this year, it can be inferred that the Beaver Mud Dump is by far the most metal polluted body of water
in the area; though the waterways affected by ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Bitter Creek has argillic rocks overlaying propylitic rock, and many of the rocks contained a
significant amount of pyrite and hematite; thus explaining the high concentrations of sulfate and iron.
Alum Creek also contains argillic and propylitic rocks with hematite cement, biotite, and epidote. The
iron rich minerals and sulfur rich minerals cause high concentrations in iron and sulfate. Alum Creek
and Bitter Creek most likely did not have carbonate minerals to act as a buffer to the highly acidic
minerals. Iron Creek, as inferred by its name, has a significant concentration of iron rich minerals,
such as hematite, pyrite, and biotite from propylitic rocks. Iron Creek also contains argillic rocks. In
the past 22 years, there has been a relatively consistent trend of a constant or no detectable
concentration of copper in all of the waterways, except for the Beaver Mud Dump, after the initial
dramatic decrease after 1995 in some areas. Of the three concentrations analyzed, sulfate has the most
fluctuation in data reports. In some years, the concentration levels exceed or come close to meeting
the levels that were present in 1995. Schinzel Flats and the Headwaters of Wightman Fork have
consistently had some of the lowest concentrations of sulfate, while Alum Creek and the Beaver Mud
Dump have

Computer Networks And The Network
Computer Networks
Network is between two or more computers connected each other they can exchange data. For
example a network allows computers to share files, users to message each other. Computer network
topology is the way various components of a network for example (link, connect) which is different
systems and nodes are connected and communicate with each other.
A network is a set of devices, software, and cables that enables the exchange of information between
them. Host devices are computers, servers, laptops, Personal Digital Assistants (PDAs), or anything a
person uses to access the network. A topology describes the layout of a network. There are several
topologies (Star, Ring, Bus and mesh).
A Computer network consists of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
LAN configuration consists of:
O A file server stores all of the software that controls the network, as well as the software that can be
shared by the computers attached to the network.
O A workstation computers connected to the file server (Mac or PCs). These are less powerful than the
file server
O Cables used to connect the network interface cards in each computer. METROPOLITAN AREA
NETWORK (MAN)
Metropolitan Area Network (MAN) covers larger geographic areas, such as cities. Often used by local
libraries and government agencies often to connect to citizens and private industries. WIDE AREA
NETWORK (WAN)
Wide Area Networks (WANs) connect larger geographic areas, such as London, the UK, or the world.
In this type of network dedicated transoceanic cabling or satellite uplinks may be used.
ADVANTAGES OF NETWORK
Speed. Sharing and transferring files within Networks are very rapid. Thus saving time, while
maintaining the integrity of the file.
Cost. Individually licensed copies of many popular software programs can be costly. Networkable
versions are available at considerable savings. Shared programs, on a network allows for easier
upgrading of the program on one single file server, instead of upgrading individual workstations.
Security. Sensitive files and programs on a network are passwords protected (established for specific
directories to restrict access to authorized users) or designated as copy

The Implementation Of The New Standard Rule
As many know revenue is the amount of money that a company receives during a specific period/time.
However revenue recognition is slightly different, it is an accounting principle under GAAP that
determines the specific conditions of when revenue is recognized or accounted for. Since many
believe that the standard was in need for improvement, on August 12, 2015 the FASB issued an
Accounting Standards Update. The update based on the board s decision decided that public
organizations should apply the new revenue recognition to annual reports beginning after December
15, 2017. It is said that the new standard is major achievement for the Boards in improving this
financial standard. The purpose of the new standard is to establish principles ... Show more content on

By being able to cut down on paperwork and build up a proper support beam would be able to help the
companies in numerous ways. From removing the inconsistencies and weaknesses it would make it
easier for their accountant to look at the financial statements as well an auditor when going through
the company s financials to make sure it s up to par. Therefore, by making a strong framework for
revenue issues then you would be allowed to fix any errors that you may have missed when trying to
eliminate the inconsistencies and weaknesses so that you are able to make adjusting entries for the
revenue issues. More new rules include that it will improve comparability of revenue recognition
practices across entities, industries, jurisdictions, and capital markets, and provide more useful
information to users of financial statements through improved disclosure requirements, For the new
standard to improve the comparability of the revenue recognition is a huge help to numerous
organizations. With being able to compare the revenue documents with other areas in the financial
world then it can be a much better process overall. When people are able to compare things in
different perspectives they get a sense of confidence that they are able to complete the task given to
them. Also with the information being more useful to the users of the financial

Movie Studio Analysis
Licensing Agreements
If a movie studio were to approach me about the use of my music in a movie there are several terms
that would have to be outlined. These include payment, exclusivity, use, territory, and time (The Art
Institute of Pittsburgh Online Division para. 35).
Firstly, I would figure out the payment. Do I want to get paid in lump sums, royalties or combination
payments? If the movie stands a chance of success I would choose royalties because the amount of
payment is based on the success of the film, which means more money for me (The Art Institute of
Pittsburgh Online Division para. 23).
Secondly I would discuss the exclusivity of the licensed product. Exclusivity is the use of rights
granted to the license by the licensor (The Art Institute of Pittsburgh Online Division para. 35). When
establishing the licensing contract with the movie studio I want to establish that only this movie may
use my work and no other productions by the movie studio may use my work. I may also license the
work so that other productions may use the work with non exclusive rights (The Art Institute of
Pittsburgh Online Division para. 35).
The licensor should also look into the use ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
For example in popular music there is the use of sampling of other songs or beats to produce your own
song. The producer of the new song must first gain the proper licensing and permission of the original
artist or is liable for a lawsuit. Another possible example is the licensing of your music for radio use.
For instance, the music we here on the radio is licensed to the radio station to be played on that station
with permission from the artist. Failure to obtain this permission can again lead to legal dispute.
Finally, a third option is licensing your music for use in other media formats besides film. These
formats include video games, television shows, commercials (television and radio), web advertising
and YouTube

The Gaze In George Orwell s Nineteen Eighty-Four
Empowerment and disempowerment using the gaze is manifested as one of the fundamental themes in
George Orwell s novel Nineteen Eighty Four (1949). Written in 1944, Nineteen Eighty Four is a novel
which portrays the experiences of Winston Smith, the protagonist and other significant characters such
as Julia who are bound to live within a totalitarian regime in which the powerful forces are
manipulation and fear. The work of literature demonstrates the visionary concept of how totalitarian
regimes may evolve if they were permitted to do so. The power of the gaze is investigated in Nineteen
Eighty Four to assess how the protagonists in the book are given power and also disempowered by the
supervising gaze, the desiring gaze and the egalitarian gaze. Hence, formulating the following

The Fusion Of Spinal Fusion
Spinal fusion is categorized into three different categories: cervical, thoracic, and lumbar, in
conjunction with the different segments of the spine. Each type of spinal fusion has a different goal
depending on the purpose of the surgery. Most surgeries involve fusing vertebrae together to limit its
range of motion, thereby hopefully reducing the pain or correcting any physical deformities.
Depending on the levels of fusion, spinal fusion surgeries tend to last a few hours. Complications may
arise during surgery, and they greatly increase depending the location of the fusion, levels of fusion,
and if the surgery crosses any important nerve sites. Levels of spinal fusion are known as the fusion
between two different vertebrae. If there is a fusion between L1 and L2, that is known as one level of
fusion. If there is another site of fusion at L3 and L4, than there will be two levels of spinal fusion.
Lumbar fusion are further complicated when more then one level of performed. By limiting one
segment s range of motion, other segments of the spine will have to compensate and create greater
range of motion. With lumbar fusion, most doctors will need to be able to identify why a patient needs
lumbar fusion, and being able to identify if lumbar fusion will help alleviate the pain. Most cases of
lumbar fusion involve spondylolisthesis, fractures, spinal stenosis, scoliosis, and possibly herniated
disk if no other further treatment has proven successful. Most physicians will order an

We can see this on how college students use Facebook. This social network is used not only to
socialize with people, but also to help to the freshmen students on college overcome their shyness
factor. Transfer of high school to college is a big process which you can not afford it by your own.
Students need new friends, professors that help them in this process. Some of these students may feel
shy when it is related to making new friendships. However, by using Facebook event tool , students
can organize meetings in order to get in touch with each other even more or keep light relationships
with their classmates. Otherwise, shows that some of those less extroverted students may feel a bit
creepy to show up at one of these meetings. These new students would feel uncomfortable going to a
meeting and not knowing anyone. According to researchers have concluded that although Facebook is
the most popular social network in United States where we can communicate, many college students
prefer to use Twitter because it is more practical and easier to continue a dialogue, as it is just 140
characters per post. Twitter defines itself as a network of real time information that can connect to
issues of concern. Simply, you have to look for interest accounts and follow conversations . This
makes students have had extended and richer discussions on Twitter more than in class. I think that

The Historical Context Of The Letter To The Colossians
The letter to the Colossians was written by the apostle Paul. It is likely that Paul wrote the letter of
Colossians in the late AD 50 s or 60 s, while he was imprisoned. This letter was written to a gentile
church plant located in Colossae, a city of Rome. Paul planted churches in Ephesus which is 100 miles
west from Colossae. However, it is improbable that Paul is the founder of the church of the Colossians
since he was imprisoned at the time. For example, Paul said, Aristarchus my fellow prisoner greets
you, (Col. 4:10, ESV) indicating his imprisonment as he mentioned his fellow inmate. The book of
Colossians is not the only prison epistle that Paul wrote; The book of Ephesians, the book of
Philippians and the book of Philemon are all prison epistles. So, perhaps, it was Epaphras who planted
the Colossians church. This exegetical study will explore the historical context of the Book of
Colossians to understand why Paul exhorted and prayed for the Colossians to be filled with God s
divine will. Colossians 1:9 14 is relevant in today s time because it proves that the power of
intercessory prayer edifies the Church to defend the gospel from false teaching.
Historical Context
It is apparent within the letter of Colossians that Paul cautioned them to abstain from false teachings
and philosophies that usurp the sufficiency of Christ, his grace, and their faith in Christ [and which it
enabled] them to reach the desired goal of glorification and perfect

Detectives Research Papers
A detective is a police officer, whose duty is to detect criminals, by in depth investigation of cases.
When attempting to solve a crime, detectives conduct a criminal investigation that seeks all the facts
about a crime to help determine the truth: what happened and who is responsible. This involves
making a preliminary and final investigation. A detective #8217;s task is to gather, organize, and use
information about social behavior. To effectively complete that task a detective should possess certain
characteristics: intellectual, psychological, and physical. Studies were conducted on the importance
and efficiency of the criminal investigation system, and on the need to integrate written policies, and
rules. Detectives have many ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
A confession is not always necessary, because sometimes enough incriminating evidence has already
been obtained. If there is sufficient evidence or a confession is obtained, then detectives can arrest the
suspect. It is the detective #8217;s job to present the best possible case to the prosecution. After all
this occurs the case is disposed of. These steps are not always followed in this exact order, and
sometimes steps are eliminated. In conclusion, a detective #8217;s job is basically to clear or dispose
of a case (Bennett, 1981). Detectives, when conducting an investigation, should first determine
whether a crime has been committed. Thus, a detective who is familiar with the different crimes and
their elements (what must occur for an act to be called a specific type of crime), knows immediately if
a crime has actually been committed. When a detective receives a case, he or she conducts a
preliminary investigation. When establishing a case, a preliminary investigation consists of different
aspects. A detective #8217;s job includes such things as measuring, photographing, sketching, and
searching the crime scene, as well as identifying, collecting, examining, and processing physical
evidence. In addition, a detective questions victims, witnesses, and suspects. They record all
statements and observations in their notes. All aspects of the preliminary investigation are

Essay On Racial Disparities
Experiencing racial disparities can permit an increasing level of stress over the years, yet buffering
mechanisms can be used to decrease the impact of adverse experiences. Based on Brody et al. (2006)
study, results indicated that race related stress from allostatic load was not significant for youth with
high emotional support. Accessing emotional supportive networks of family and peers can help
readjust behavior and counterbalance cognitive trajectories that reduce anxiety and stress.
Another buffering tool can be offered from a parent or caregiver, by providing an informative
introduction of discrimination. Comprehension of societal variances allows children to obtain
cognitive skills, which they are able to build awareness that can help distinguish discriminatory
treatment and gain a greater perception of others cognition (Bynum et al. 2014). Also, understanding

Oedipus The King Blindness
Blind by Choice: From Dark to Light and Back Again Oedipus the King is the complex and twisted
story of a man who flees his homeland with hopes of escaping the fulfillment of a prophecy. However,
in the action of fleeing he actually collides with his fate. The images of sight and blindness are woven
throughout this drama of Oedipus search for the truth; Sophocles repeatedly uses these two opposite
ideas to expose the condition which is so often shared by a large portion of humanity. Blindness and
sight are depicted both literally and figuratively in this Greek tragedy. Oedipus journey begins in the
darkness that comes from lack of knowledge. A person may see the truth or be blind to it just as a

Tiresias is summoned to help Oedipus in his quest; this blind man is the one character who truly sees
the situation. The king greets the seer with compliments saying, Though your eyes can t see it, your
mind is well aware of the plague that afflicts us (366 367). The soothsayer does not care for flattery as
he realizes he never should have come to Thebes to be part of this inquiry. Though Tiresias wishes to
remain silent, the king will not relent. Oedipus grows angry with the prophet and proclaims, Oh, truth
has strength, but you have none. You have blind eyes, blind ears, and a blind brain (446 447). The
wise man attempts to resist revealing the complete portentous truth but eventually gives warning: And
you are a desperate fool throwing taunts at me that these men, very soon, will throw at you (448 449).
Even this remark fails to open the king s eyes as he continues to insult and accuse Tiresias. The
fortuneteller then describes the life that is to come for Oedipus the king: A blind man who still has
eyes, a beggar who is now rich, he ll jab his stick, feeling the road to foreign lands (551 553). When at

University of Canterbury
Abstract
Money has a huge impact on us as individuals, changing our behaviour and the way we view others.
In order to see how great of an effect money has a study was conducted involving participants
recruited from Psyc106 classes. Participants partook in an experiment requiring them to complete a
task which involved money priming. Half the students were exposed to words associated with money
while the other group were used as a control group, being exposed to neutral words only. Following
this task, participants were asked to complete a survey which would help determine whether or not
money priming had any effect on their way of thinking or behaviour. The results found that money
priming in fact had no effect on the person s behaviour, and any variances were mainly due to the
difference in opinions of males and females.
Effects of Money Activation on Level of Support for Government Goods and Services Programmes
and Privatization of Public Goods and Services
Does exposure to the concept of money have the ability to affect our views and opinions? In today s
society, money has an overwhelming control over human behaviour and quality of life. It affects how

very useful tool, however we didn t always have the interstate. The government saw a need for this

Sex Workers And The Criminalization Of Prostitution
INTRODUCTION
Though being a party of the same society the sex workers are denied the right to vote and dignity.
They are criticized and a considered a stigma to the society .
If no steps are taken to legalize it and issue license then there can be no ways to keep a track on the
illegal human trafficking and further to keep a check on their health.
They are most often ostracized by the society.
The rights of the sex workers are also human rights and also that the right to trade their body is their

Stigma
Criminalisation, stigma, social exclusion49and climate of impunity
It has been seen that the State is considered as an instrument of violence which is often feared by the
sex workers instead of considering it as protector of rights. The police authorities abuse them, demand
sexual favors, illegally detain and torture them in custody. Their ability to seek protection from the
police is diminished because of the stigma which is attached to them because of the nature of their
work.
Sex work and Trafficking
It is said that the sex workers are lured by money or rather deceived into sex work and might be
trafficked as well, however there is an enormous no. who looks up to this profession as a source of
better life and livelihood and not deceived or lured into it. There is a difference between voluntarily

The Importance Of Behaviour-Based Safety
According to the Cambridge Centre for Behaviour Studies, (n.d., P1) Behavioural safety is the
application of behavioural research on human performance to the problems of the safety in the
workplace. Behaviour Based Safety (BBS) is an approach based on research of people s behaviour
(what they do and why they do it) and applies scientific theories into practical problems. (HSA0392,
2017) It is also described as a bottom up approach (H. L. Kaila, 2008), because frontline workers help
manager to observe co worker and make suggestions. For a more broader term, BBS is about everyone
s behaviour, not just the frontline (Agnew and Ashworth, 2012) definition
A BBS approach is based on solid principles (HAS, 2017). Harvard psychologist B.F Skinner (1940s)
is pioneer in this area who discovers the principles of behavioural science. These principles are
applied in institutional and education fields in late 1960s. It is not until 1970s that industrial
applications is in Skinnerian behavioural science. Starting in 1984, Monsanto used Behavioural
methods for accident prevention (Thomas, John, and Stanley,1990) (Rafiq M.Choudhry, 2014) and
Behaviour Based Safety (BBS) has proven to be an effective tool for the reduction workplace
accidents and is slightly adjusted due to the change in business climate.(Proactive Safety 2017)History
Part 2How BBS reduce injury in workplace? (From its concept)
80% 95% accidents are caused by unsafe behaviour (Thomas, John, and Stanley, 1990) People take

The Importance Of Employee Uniforms
Introduction Have you ever wondered why companies make their employees wear a specific uniform
or wear a specific style of pant and shirt? Well, there are many reasons why; one, the company may
use their uniform as part of their organization s colors. This allows the employee to feel they are part
of the organization and it allows the consumer to identify a company purely from the colors on a
uniform. Just within the past year, a sitcom television show called Superstore. Those who watch this
sitcom, quickly realizes how those who wrote the scripts and chose the actors clothing did so to poke
fun directly towards Wal Mart. Additionally, a person s physical appearance, such as piercings, tattoos,
and hair styles are all ways others associate them as a good or bad person, and clothing is no
exception. Whether it is in a business setting, a restaurant, or even a doctor s office, a person s
perception towards another is determined by initial contact. Despite a single office or profession;
employers need to consider a dress code to ensure the safety of all employees. Moreover, some
employees do not direct a dress code as a way to save operational costs, while some provide the
employees with a shirt and the employee must wear a specific type and color of pant. Sure, the dress
code for employees can be unattractive, however, the employer is not paying the person to look good
or seek a partner. Employers need to explain the reason the companies uniforms are designed and

1st Amendment: As it might not be a prevalent as it was when more totalitarian government systems
existed, it , to me, is the almost complete infrastructure made for the rest of the other amendments to
live in and thrive within. As long as a government has a lack of control over what its people think,
believe, and want it is essentially removes a large amount of influence and power it once had and
places it into groups of people. As we ve seen, a whole country can t believe in all the same ideals as
its governments. Even when the government is supposed to be constructed under the ideals of the
majority that overthrew it, power is still unbalanced and will create the same problems, if not more, is
sought to fix (French revolution and the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
One case, California v. Stewart, did not advise the accused of the fact he could remain silent and
ended confessing to robbery and murder. 6th: The sixth amendment build off of the one before it
where it provides more rights to the citizens being prosecuted. It defines the trails and provides a
chose for the defendant between a speedy and public trial Although they still have the right to remain
silent. In Order to insure that the trial is fair, the defendant can have an attorney and a jury of peairs
from the district the crime was committed in. I find the Fifth slightly above the sixth because it s
seemingly the rules of the game 7th: Not every wrong doing can be a crime, and even if it s a crime,
the punishment for the damages might not be enough. This amendment give an alternative to sue
another party for loss of value of something. Only so many laws can be written, so the option to make
your own case over a specific issue not previously defined is a huge privilege. Also, because the same
case can t be tried twice, a lawsuit isn t the same and can be used accordingly. The most famous case
of the example I just presented was the O.J Simpson s case where he was found not guilty in court, but
guilty of the murders in a lawsuit made by the families. 2nd: Because our government is based off of
trust between government and the people, the people are given a knife as they follow behind of the
government. The metaphor meaning that the people are allowed

Ice Age Psychology
Family movie nighttime, the smell of butter and cheese from the popcorn makes me hungry. Pop, pop,
pop, the popcorns are making from the microwave. The house smells like a movie theater. Light out,
blankets out, pillows out popcorns out, TV on, it is time for the movie. Every weekend, we usually
have a night where we watch a movie together. Sometimes we watch funny, fantasy, mystery, and even
sci fi movies. But tonight we will be watching Ice Age: Dawn of the Dinosaurs.
My family love watching Ice Age movies, they are humorous. The movie starts out with Scrat the
squirrel struggling to get the acorn. Scrat is just a funny character, he always messes things
up.Dinosaurs, this movie are getting much better. Suddenly, there is this weasel named

Comparing Jimmy s Experience In The Novel And Real Life...
There are many comparisons between Jimmy s experience in the novel and real life experiences that
are written down on the website. In the website it states; Many experienced equal treatment for the
first time in their lives in the army or other services . When Jimmy was fighting in the war he had
friends such as Gerald and Clarry that treated him as an equal. He was also given the same treatment
as everyone else who was fighting in France and this equal treatment remained through the entirety of
the war. However, when Jimmy came home people were still racist towards him and he found it
difficult to find a job. Gerald Mortlock offered him a job as his stockman out of respect for Jimmy as
they were friends during the war. On the website it says

The Consequences Of Recidivism
Americans today tend to associate recidivism with individuals who continuously see prison as a
revolving door and continues to re offend. The term refers to the act of committing another crime after
a person has already received punishment for previous offenses, in other words, relapse. The term is
also used to describe individuals who tend to relapse to a life of questionable behavior. The social
process theory may explain a possible link to recidivism, and this argument known in the criminal
justice sector as a criminal behavior that is a predictable result of a person s interaction with his or her
environment as mentioned in the book, Criminal Justice in Action the Core ; Nevertheless, whatever
the case may be, recidivism has become a vicious cycle as in the case of Michael Christopher Mejia,
[a]n admitted gang member told detectives he smoked a Whittier police officer and his cousin and shot
another cop, according to a tape recorded interview played in court... during a hearing to determine if
there is enough evidence for him to stand trial for the killings (NBC4). Likewise, recidivism is that
individual who is responsible for subjecting their spouse or partner to repeated domestic violence.
Domestic violence offenders resort to physical abuse as a method of establishing control and power in
a relationship. Most victims of domestic violence usually are subjected to more than one instance of
abuse by the same partner. It is very common for a batterer to submit

Bio Engineered Foods Essay
The advancements in the field of biotechnology have enabled scientists to aid the production of bio
engineered food products. Bio engineered foods are created with the insertion of a new gene into a
plant or organism to change it s traits. This altercation of DNA produces new proteins that create this
change. In order to better fill consumer demands and receive a larger profit, farmers use genetically
modified crops to: help assure a longer plant life, improve nutrition in food, and resist certain
herbicides. With these changes comes fault, after the plantation when this food hits the market there is
no mandate for the labeling of genetically modified foods. It is believed that these foods have their
benefits, however, their risks hold a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As the dangers begin to pile the possibilities become dire, Many children in the US and Europe have
developed life threatening allergies to peanuts and other foods. There is a possibility that introducing a
gene into a plant may create a new allergen or cause an allergic reaction in susceptible individuals ...
Extensive testing of GM foods may be required to avoid the possibility of harm to consumers with
food allergies (4). It is obviously necessary that genetically modified foods be closer studied before
they can be declared safe. Other risks pertain to consumer health, Many people believe that
organically produced foods are, in some way, healthier than conventionally produced foods, and they
seek out products that are labeled organic because organic agriculture shuns synthetic chemical
pesticides, herbicides, and fertilizers (2). It shouldn t be an issue if consumers want options, especially
to stay healthy. Putting consumers at risk for the sake of not writing text on a label, isn t worth it. If
genetically modified foods are so safe then why has it become an issue to label them? Without the
mandatory labeling of these foods, this is a risk the consumer has no choice but to take. An even
bigger drawback of bio engineered food is their effect on the environment. Not only can these foods
effect humans, they effect nature and wildlife as well, B.t. toxins kill many species of insect larvae
indiscriminately; it is not possible to design a B.t.

Big Brother Has Been Trumped
Big Brother has been Trumped The year of 1984 is dead and gone but will the year of 2017 give the
novel 1984 a revival? Natasha Bordin investigates. veryone can remember the dark days back in high
school when the teacher pulled out some musty, old book called it a classic and then forced the entire
class to read it. You probably remember sitting there wondering why this cruel punishment was
inflicted upon you, this book doesn t hold any relevance today! Or does it? Classics have timeless
characters, plots and underlying messages that we can still identify with today because history may
not repeat itself but human nature certainly does. Novels such as Great Expectations, Lolita, Swiss

Newspeak has minimised the amount of words available to maximise the power that the Party has.
The Party believes that if the dictionary is rewritten until no words exist that can express resistance
then people will fade into a single, ignorant and brainwashed mass that accepts the Party s words as
Gospel. Newspeak goes hand in hand with the idea of doublethink. Doublethink is when two contrary
or opposing beliefs are held by a person at the same time and then the Party can tell the population
which version to believe. A unique and confusing concept, right? Well to explain this, at the beginning
of the story Oceania is at war with Eurasia but during the novel alliances switch and the nation is
declared to be at war with Eastasia. The Party members immediately switch their mentalities from
hating and fearing Eurasian forces to projecting this onto Eastasian forces without any memory that
the opposite was once

Making A Murderer Film Analysis
For many binge Netflix watchers, the end of 2015 brought a story to screen that has been unknown to

the docuseries pieces together Steven Avery s story, an innocent man who was imprisoned for 18 years
for a crime he didn t do and just two years after being released and in the middle of a civil lawsuit
against the Wisconsin, Manitowoc sheriff s department, Avery was convicted of murder. The crime

  • 2. Electron Affinity And Ionization Energy Recently in class we have discovered the meaning of electron affinity and ionization energy. We know that ionization energy is the energy required to be absorbed when an ionic bond removes an electron from an atom. We also know that electron affinity is how easily an atom will accept an electron into its shells when trying to make itself neutral. This means that both of these terms play a big role when an atom loses or gains an electron. The ionization energy is the energy to remove an electron from an atom. A trend for ionization energy is that it generally increases left to right across a row on the periodic table except for the noble gases which have closed shells. For example, lithium requires only 520 kJ/mol to ionize it while helium, the noble gas right next to it in the periodic table, requires 2372 kJ/mol. The ionization energy can be thought of as opposite to the electronegativity of an element in the way that a low ionization energy gives away that an element easily loses electrons to a reaction, while a high electronegativity shows that an element strongly wants to have electrons in a reaction. The electron affinity is an amount of energy that changes when ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Electron affinity, on the other hand, describes the energy that is released when an electron binds to an atom. This tells us that since energy is released, the electron affinities will be negative. Another example of the differences between electron affinity and ionization energy is that ionization energy is related with making cations from neutral atoms due to the fact that it measures the amount of energy needed to remove an electron. In contrast, electron affinity is related with making anions due to the fact that it is the amount of energy that changes when a negative ion is formed from an electron being added. These are two big example of how electron affinity and ionization energy are ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Symptoms And Treatment Of Antidepressants In the study patients age 20 to 64 that is diagnosed with depression and on antidepressants was used to observe the possibility of antidepressants causing epilepsy. The data does show some links between antidepressant use and epilepsy, even though it is inconsistent and non decisive. Cox proportional hazards were used to analyze the first recorded diagnosis of epilepsy for the study. Patients were picked from the QResearch primary care database. There was a total of 238,963 patients from 687 UK practices used in the research. Patients with past history were eliminated. There was an increase of 37% of patients that was diagnosed with their first epilepsy/seizure with antidepressants, 8 of 11 were frequently prescribed drugs. An increased risk was found with the link of antidepressants and epilepsy/seizures on all classes of antidepressants. Patients should be evaluated and all possibilities should be considered. More research needs to be done as these results could contain bias information. • 4. Religion And Teen Views Of Gay Marriage People who attend church regularly will be more likely to be opposed to homosexual relations, all else being equal. Religion and views on homosexuality are closely linked. As Amy Adamczyk and Cassady Pitt note in their research, Shaping attitudes about homosexuality: The role of religion and cultural context, religion is often seen as an important predictor of attitudes about homosexuality. The reason for this is because some people believe views on homosexuality are written into the Bible, and that this provides evidence with which to justify discrimination against homosexuals. Therefore, regularly attending church not only implies a strong affiliation and deeply held beliefs, but constant exposure to these views. Not all religions profess the same views on homosexuality, but the most popular one, the Catholic Church, tends to hold negative views on the subject. Albert L. Winseman s paper Religion Colors Teen Views of Gay Marriage has also looked into this relationship, except this focuses explicitly on youth views. Research Design In order to retest this hypothesis, I will be using data from the GSS (General Social Survey) 2012 dataset. The unit of analysis will be individual people. Specifically, there will be an examination of people s church attendance, while controlling for educational status and political views to see how church attendance may be correlated with views on homosexual sex. There will be 1,163 units that will be studied. I will be ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Summitville Water Essay The waterways can be divided into categories of water that has been affected by the Summitville mine and water that has not been affected. Based on the location of the waterways, the Beaver Mud Dump, the Headwaters of Wightman Fork, Schinzel Flats, Wightman Fork below mine, and the small creek from tailings pile would be directly affected by the contamination initiated by mining activity, while the Cattle Guard, Iron Creek, Alum Creek, Bitter Creek, and waterways around the Alamosa River would not be affected or as affected by the mining activity (refer to Figure 1). Alum Creek and Bitter Creek most likely did not have carbonate minerals to act as a buffer to the highly acidic minerals. Iron Creek, as inferred by its name, has a significant concentration of iron rich minerals, such as hematite, pyrite, and biotite from propylitic rocks. Iron Creek also contains argillic rocks. In the past 22 years, there has been a relatively consistent trend of a constant or no detectable concentration of copper in all of the waterways, except for the Beaver Mud Dump, after the initial dramatic decrease after 1995 in some areas. Of the three concentrations analyzed, sulfate has the most fluctuation in data reports. In some years, the concentration levels exceed or come close to meeting the levels that were present in 1995. Do I want to get paid in lump sums, royalties or combination payments? If the movie stands a chance of success I would choose royalties because the amount of payment is based on the success of the film, which means more money for me (The Art Institute of Pittsburgh Online Division para. 23). Secondly I would discuss the exclusivity of the licensed product. Exclusivity is the use of rights granted to the license by the licensor (The Art Institute of Pittsburgh Online Division para. 35). • 10. The Fusion Of Spinal Fusion Spinal fusion is categorized into three different categories: cervical, thoracic, and lumbar, in conjunction with the different segments of the spine. Each type of spinal fusion has a different goal depending on the purpose of the surgery. Most surgeries involve fusing vertebrae together to limit its range of motion, thereby hopefully reducing the pain or correcting any physical deformities. Depending on the levels of fusion, spinal fusion surgeries tend to last a few hours. Complications may arise during surgery, and they greatly increase depending the location of the fusion, levels of fusion, and if the surgery crosses any important nerve sites. Levels of spinal fusion are known as the fusion between two different vertebrae. If there is a fusion between L1 and L2, that is known as one level of fusion. If there is another site of fusion at L3 and L4, than there will be two levels of spinal fusion. Lumbar fusion are further complicated when more then one level of performed. By limiting one segment s range of motion, other segments of the spine will have to compensate and create greater range of motion. With lumbar fusion, most doctors will need to be able to identify why a patient needs lumbar fusion, and being able to identify if lumbar fusion will help alleviate the pain. • 12. The Historical Context Of The Letter To The Colossians The letter to the Colossians was written by the apostle Paul. It is likely that Paul wrote the letter of Colossians in the late AD 50 s or 60 s, while he was imprisoned. This letter was written to a gentile church plant located in Colossae, a city of Rome. Paul planted churches in Ephesus which is 100 miles west from Colossae. However, it is improbable that Paul is the founder of the church of the Colossians since he was imprisoned at the time. For example, Paul said, Aristarchus my fellow prisoner greets you, (Col. 4:10, ESV) indicating his imprisonment as he mentioned his fellow inmate. The book of Colossians is not the only prison epistle that Paul wrote; The book of Ephesians, the book of Philippians and the book of Philemon are all prison epistles. So, perhaps, it was Epaphras who planted the Colossians church. This exegetical study will explore the historical context of the Book of Colossians to understand why Paul exhorted and prayed for the Colossians to be filled with God s divine will. Colossians 1:9 14 is relevant in today s time because it proves that the power of intercessory prayer edifies the Church to defend the gospel from false teaching. In order to see how great of an effect money has a study was conducted involving participants recruited from Psyc106 classes. Participants partook in an experiment requiring them to complete a task which involved money priming. Half the students were exposed to words associated with money while the other group were used as a control group, being exposed to neutral words only. Following this task, participants were asked to complete a survey which would help determine whether or not money priming had any effect on their way of thinking or behaviour. The Importance Of Behaviour-Based Safety According to the Cambridge Centre for Behaviour Studies, (n.d., P1) Behavioural safety is the application of behavioural research on human performance to the problems of the safety in the workplace. Behaviour Based Safety (BBS) is an approach based on research of people s behaviour (what they do and why they do it) and applies scientific theories into practical problems. (HSA0392, 2017) It is also described as a bottom up approach (H. L. Kaila, 2008), because frontline workers help manager to observe co worker and make suggestions. For a more broader term, BBS is about everyone s behaviour, not just the frontline (Agnew and Ashworth, 2012) definition A BBS approach is based on solid principles (HAS, 2017). Additionally, a person s physical appearance, such as piercings, tattoos, and hair styles are all ways others associate them as a good or bad person, and clothing is no exception. American Revolution And The Ussr 1st Amendment: As it might not be a prevalent as it was when more totalitarian government systems existed, it , to me, is the almost complete infrastructure made for the rest of the other amendments to live in and thrive within. As long as a government has a lack of control over what its people think, believe, and want it is essentially removes a large amount of influence and power it once had and places it into groups of people. As we ve seen, a whole country can t believe in all the same ideals as its governments. Even when the government is supposed to be constructed under the ideals of the majority that overthrew it, power is still unbalanced and will create the same problems, if not more, is sought to fix (French revolution and the ... Stewart, did not advise the accused of the fact he could remain silent and ended confessing to robbery and murder. 6th: The sixth amendment build off of the one before it where it provides more rights to the citizens being prosecuted. It defines the trails and provides a chose for the defendant between a speedy and public trial Although they still have the right to remain silent. In Order to insure that the trial is fair, the defendant can have an attorney and a jury of peairs from the district the crime was committed in. I find the Fifth slightly above the sixth because it s seemingly the rules of the game 7th: Not every wrong doing can be a crime, and even if it s a crime, the punishment for the damages might not be enough. This amendment give an alternative to sue another party for loss of value of something. Only so many laws can be written, so the option to make your own case over a specific issue not previously defined is a huge privilege. Also, because the same case can t be tried twice, a lawsuit isn t the same and can be used accordingly. The most famous case of the example I just presented was the O.J Simpson s case where he was found not guilty in court, but guilty of the murders in a lawsuit made by the families. 2nd: Because our government is based off of trust between government and the people, the people are given a knife as they follow behind of the government. The term refers to the act of committing another crime after a person has already received punishment for previous offenses, in other words, relapse. The term is also used to describe individuals who tend to relapse to a life of questionable behavior. The social process theory may explain a possible link to recidivism, and this argument known in the criminal justice sector as a criminal behavior that is a predictable result of a person s interaction with his or her environment as mentioned in the book, Criminal Justice in Action the Core ; Nevertheless, whatever the case may be, recidivism has become a vicious cycle as in the case of Michael Christopher Mejia, [a]n admitted gang member told detectives he smoked a Whittier police officer and his cousin and shot another cop, according to a tape recorded interview played in court... during a hearing to determine if there is enough evidence for him to stand trial for the killings (NBC4). Extensive testing of GM foods may be required to avoid the possibility of harm to consumers with food allergies (4). It is obviously necessary that genetically modified foods be closer studied before they can be declared safe. Other risks pertain to consumer health, Many people believe that organically produced foods are, in some way, healthier than conventionally produced foods, and they seek out products that are labeled organic because organic agriculture shuns synthetic chemical pesticides, herbicides, and fertilizers (2). It shouldn t be an issue if consumers want options, especially to stay healthy. Putting consumers at risk for the sake of not writing text on a label, isn t worth it. If genetically modified foods are so safe then why has it become an issue to label them? Without the mandatory labeling of these foods, this is a risk the consumer has no choice but to take. An even bigger drawback of bio engineered food is their effect on the environment. Not only can these foods effect humans, they effect nature and wildlife as well, B.t. toxins kill many species of insect larvae indiscriminately; it is not possible to design a B.t. ...
