2. Field Training Research Paper
Replicating bad behaviour:
The effects that field training officers have on police recruit behavior According to Sir Robert
Peel, the founding father of modern policing, The power of the police to fulfill their functions and
duties is dependent upon public approval of their existence, actions, and behaviours and on their
ability to secure and maintain public trust (Loader, 2016, p. 429). This statement signifies the
critical importance of field training officers as, according to Sun (2014), who exist as a focal point

3. Italian American Cultural Values Based Off Hofstede s...
Today, Italian American is the fifth largest ethnic group in America. A huge amount of Italian
population migrated to America between the late nineteenth century and World War I. Between
1900 1915, 3 million Italians immigrated to America, which was the largest nationality of New
Immigrants (Cohen, 1986). New Immigrants consisted of Slavs(Slaves), Jews, and Italians. The
New Immigration is the third and largest wave of immigration from Europe, and Italians were
categorized as one of the New Immigrants . From 1890 onward, the number of Italian immigrants
increased rapidly throughout the nation. From 1880 1924, more than 4 million Italians immigrated
to America (Will, n.d.). These immigrants, mainly artisans and peasants, represented all regions of
Italy, but most of them came from the Southern Italy. We have conducted some research and an
interview about the history of the Italian immigration; their cultural values based off Hofstede s
value orientation; what shapes the identity of Italian Americans; the verbal and nonverbal
communication of this cultural group; as well as what conflict management styles are used in this
culture, and how they handle conflict. Why did Italians immigrate to America? According to the
information on mtholyoke.edu, Italian immigration was fueled by dire poverty. After the Italian
unification in 1861, the economic condition worsened, particularly in Southern Italy and Sicily. The
large exodus of Italian from the South and Sicily were

4. The Importance Of Net Neutrality
Net neutrality is the idea of internet users should have equal access to internet content without any
restrictions. Net neutrality has been around since the early 2000 s and it is a debate between
government regulations concerning internet content and Internet providers (ISPs). This debate
covers a set of Internetrules imposed by the Federal Communications Commission(FCC) and the
Internet providers efforts to reduce access to certain sites or internet services. The FCC is an
agency of the U.S government responsible for developing the regulations of internet. This event
started in 1934 when the Communications Act placed restrictions on companies providing telegram
and telephone services and established the FCC must have the authority to prevent carriers from
restricting the flow of information for political, personal or financial reasons. In the 1996, Telecom
Act defined Internet service providers as information services rather than telecommunications
services.
In 2005, the FCC announced its commitment to keep the accessibility of internet to everyone. ...

This action caused that the supporters of net neutrality started to consider a new era for the internet
service. In May of 2014, more than 3.7 million people responded to the new set of regulations, the
results showed that the majority supported net neutrality strongly. This action also resulted in an
Internet protest, but the ISPs responded almost immediately with something called the Internet
Slowdown; this means that the companies provide slower access to websites to demonstrate the
effect of paid prioritization. The FCC made a decision that would not just affect regular customers,

In 1996 Norman Adsetts became the chairman of STT and took over the role of the Councillor.
He held crisis meetings and a recovery plan was agreed, which involved drastic cost cutting.
Because of the cost cutting the quality of the productions became worse and the reputation of the
Crucible began to fall, which resulted in even lower attendances. Sir Adsetss came up with a new
business plan over a period of 3 years to make the complex more profitable. The main point of the
plan was to invest in high quality and high profile productions which would attract sustainable
audiences. The plan included an increase of attendee researches, new ticketing pricing strategies,
quality increases of the casts and to offer an ambitious artistic team. Moreover, commercial
activities were increased. The result of the new business plan was that in March 2002 the company
recorded five years with operating surpluses.
During the years, the three separate buildings became one organization with overall responsibility
for management over the whole complex. This meant, there was no longer competition between
The Crucible and Lyceum.
STT became more and more depending on grants, primarily from the Arts Council of England,

Strong Women in The Joy Luck Club and The Kitchen God s Wife
One of the common themes in both The Joy Luck Club and The Kitchen God s Wife is strong
women. All the women in both generations in each book gain strength through different
experiences. These experiences range from a war ravaged China to the modern day stresses of
womanhood. Though different experiences have shaped each woman, they are all tied together by
the common thread of strength.
The Joy Luck Club portrays strong women. The examples that come across most strikingly to the
reader are the women who lived in traditional China. An Mei Hsu gained her strong will from her
mother s weak spirit. In her story, titled Magpies, An Mei s mother is forced... Show more content

Her life has been a series of struggles and hardships, which she has kept from her daughter Pearl.
Winnie s only companion as a child was her mother, who abandoned her just before adolescence, at
the time when Winnie needed her most. Her departure marked the beginning of Winnie s long
journey with many disappointments and tribulations.
Winnie s next hardship came when she was forced to live with her aunt, uncle, and spoiled
cousins. Winnie felt unwanted and unloved. Winnie is older than her cousin Peanut, but because
she is a bad child, soiled by her mother s bad name, she is looked down on. When she became
the right age, the family gave her to the family of Wen Fu, who was to become her new husband.
At first, Wen Fu was loving and gentle. But as time went on, he became increasingly aggressive
with Winnie. The first example of this is shortly after their new union, when they are in bed
together. Winnie tells Pearl that Wen Fu was kissing my nose, my cheeks and shoulders, telling
me how beautiful I was, how happy I made him. Within the next ten minutes, Wen Fu has turned
into a tyrant. He whispered for me to say dirty words, words for women s body parts not any
woman s body parts....the kind (of woman) who would give her body to foreign sailors. From this
point on, Wen Fu s abuse becomes more extensive and frequent.

many people are choosing to go off grid in America today: There is no grid available, to minimize
environmental impact of the grid and leave a smaller carbon footprint, to avoid utility costs,
saving money by lowering bills, emergency insurance, entertainment of an intelligent mind,
reducing use of fossil fuels, and public image. He goes on to explain that whatever reason or

There are several ways to build the walls and floor so that heat is stored in the day and released
at night. Night and day temperatures, as well as seasonal angles of the sun are things to think
about in terms of location if you plan to build a home that utilizes solar energy, such as an
earthship. Dave Black states An east west axis (90 degrees to true south) allows the longer side
of the structure to be exposed to the sun. That s where the big windows should be. North and east
facing windows can lose a lot of heat in the winter, and west facing glass can cause overheating
in summer, so they should be few and small.(Use overhangs over the windows to protect the
interior from too much summer sun.......) . Earthships are also an environmentally friendly
model because of the fact that they can be made from recycled materials such as tires, cans,
beams made from recycled trash, etc. Walls made of stacked tires filled with cans serve to store
and release heat when needed. This fact also makes it a viable option for a low budget home.
Since most, or all, of an earthship can be built with what is essentially trash, most of your
building materials can be found cheap or free, provided you have access to a road system. There
are many other ways to create an off

9. Banker To The Poor Summary
In Banker to the Poor, Muhammad Yunus discusses the power of micro lending in the struggle to
end world poverty. He created a bank called Grameen, which is dedicated to lifting families from
poverty and providing them with the means necessary to become contributing members of society.
Grameen Bank began as a simple project to help poor members of a small village in Bangladesh.
Eventually though, it expanded to across more than one hundred countries in five continents. It has
helped millions of the world s poorest people overcome their struggle with poverty. Micro loans are
essentially the same as traditional loans, just on a much smaller scale. Families living in extreme
poverty usually don t have good enough credit to obtain a traditional... Show more content on

He realizes that many of them borrow miniscule amounts of money, and earn even smaller profits.
To resolve this issue, he first distributes about $27 to about 40 villagers. Then, he gets a loan for
$300 and acts as a guarantor (someone who guarantees a loan will be repaid) so the villagers can
borrow that money.
Chapter 5: A pilot Project is Born In this chapter, Yunus discusses, in detail, the Grameen Bankand
how it operates. Females have very little power or independence. Many people in Bangladesh
thought only men should handle money. Therefore, Grameen had difficulty loaning to women. He
also talks about the complications of a daily repayment system. For over twenty years, borrowers
have paid back their loans in weekly installments.
Chapter 6: Expanding Beyond Jobra into Tangail
In this chapter, Muhammad explains how the Grameen Bank started. At first, it was just an
experiment that Professor Yunus conducted with his students. Eventually, though, Yunus
temporarily left the University of Chittagong to oversee the Grameen Bank Project, which
succeeded, despite all of the hardships it

10. Ngos As A Part Of Accountability
NGOs AS A PART OF ACCOUNTABILITY CHAIN IN SERBIAN POLITICS
INTRODUCTION
At the heart of good governance are the ideas of accountability, transparency and participation.
These ideas have grown in popularity after democratic changes in 2000; hence it could be said that
concept of accountability is relatively new in Serbia. Accountability has different meaning in
different political systems, but in general by accountability is meant the imperative to make public
officials answerable for their behavior and responsive to the entity from which they derive their
authority. Accountability also means establishing criteria to measure the performance of public
officials, as well as oversight mechanisms to ensure that standards are met. ... Show more content

Citizens are at the highest level of the accountability chain in Serbia and all authorities are
accountable to the citizens. Genuine elections no matter how free and fair are insufficient in
ensuring that elected officials are accountable and responsive to citizens. Therefore, citizens need to
participate in political processes between elections and parliaments are citizens institutions that
should initiate and enable participation. As the representative branches of democratic governments,
parliaments are meant to provide citizens with links to the policy making process and with methods
of holding the executive branch to account.
While the Government is accountable to the Parliament, on the bottom of this structure are various
public bodies, agencies, etc. to which the Government assigns power and responsibilities through
regulations and policies. Independent bodies working together with the Parliament on oversight
function play an important role in the chain of accountability.
Participants can discharge their accountability functions effectively only if they know to whom
they are accountable and for what. Likewise, they can hold others accountable only if they
understand who is accountable to them and for what. In Serbian political practice, public officials
do not have understanding of these matters or they try to avoid responsibilities. Only at the highest
level Government towards Parliament participants

An epidemic affects many people at the same time, and spreads from person to person in a locality
where the disease is not permanently prevalent. Because the autism diagnosis charts are raising

For many years humanity has pondered the origin of autism. Autism originated from the greek
word autos, meaning self . Many say that individuals with autism think to themselves, or is in their
own world . This describes an autistic person s actions, implicating that the individual is detached
from civil communication. Autism was not given its label until the early 1900 s. Around 11 years

LSD is a hallucinogenic drug. Hallucinogenic drugs change the way you sense the world around

of its psychotomimetic effects.
A decade later, researchers found that therapies would be the most beneficial to autistic patients.
The most common, however, was the behavioral therapy. This focused on helping change unwanted
behavior. It is also called cognitive behavioral therapy or behavioral modification. Doctors and
therapists use this type of therapy to replace bad habits with good ones. The therapy also helps you
cope with difficult situations.
In todays society, the most useful cure for autism is behavioral therapy and language therapy. As I
noted above, behavioral therapy helps replace bad habits. Language therapy helps the patient speak
and understand how to communicate with others.

inability to comfortably speak to other human beings. Everyday, you have a conversation

Isaac Asmiov states that violence is the last refuge for the incompetent . Malala attempts to speak
out against her culture and the Taliban, for the right to her education which causes tensions to rise

bombing, and creating fear using violence in exchange for understanding. Malala s actions
increase violence by those who are not willing to change and are obedient to their culture. As a
result, Malala Yousafzai does not deserve to be awarded the Nobel Peace Prize.

Though many could argue that Malala is not the only cause of violence, she is in the forefront
for change in her culture, so the Taliban believe that she should remain the same. Malala says
that her friend had seen a Taliban holding up the severed head of a policeman by its hair, blood
dripping from the neck ( Yousafzai 144). This a clear example of violence that extends to those
who are not directly related to rebellion. It shows that the Taliban are relentless because if
individuals do not refrain from speaking out, innocent people will suffer. Fear will only continue
to grow and the Taliban s hope is that through their violence and brutality things will not change.
Malala as one of the main leaders of change, causes this particular violence which would not
happen if she would stop. When the fight for change doesn t end, the Taliban will attack the
resources that everyone needs to survive. Malala says, The Taliban bombed the power station, so
we had no electricity, then a few days later they blasted the pipeline, so we had no gas either
(Yousafzai 155). Now that everyone reaps the negative effects, Malala s actions could lead to
further harm if not death of the people living in Pakistan. Clearly it s not only her actions that have
caused this dangerous situation, but since she is known in America she is clearly making an
impact. Because the Taliban are against her actions, this puts Malaya s loved ones in danger.

15. The Importance Of Kneeling
The Oxford English Dictionary defines the word, kneeling as, The action of kneel v.; a falling
down, or remaining, on the knees in worship, submission, etc.; in quot. 1631, advancing on the
knees; formerly often with pl., a genuflexion. This definition shows kneeling in a very respectful
and submissive manner. Kneeling, throughout centuries, has been used in many different
churches, in beautiful ceremonies, and even when one is going to propose. Kneeling is a
symbol of great honor and high respect for the one that you may be kneeling for. In the Catholic
church, during prayer and during worship, everyone kneels on the kneeling bar provided, and
bows their heads, as a sign of respect and animosity for their God. While being knighted, the
knights kneel down in front of the king or queen in respect for their lineage and in respect for
their position or possible friendship. While proposing to the one someone is in love with, it is
customary to kneel on one knee and ask the question, this is seen a sign of submission and it is
also seen as a loving gesture. Oddly enough, ever since Colin Kaepernick, who played for the San
Francisco 49ers, took a knee during the National Anthem, to spread awareness of the Black Lives
Matter movement, kneeling has all of a sudden started to become seen as uncivil, hateful, and plain
rude. Throughout history, kneeling has been seen as a sign of respect, but lately in the media it has
been viewed as an act of disrespect. The president of the

This gave Catholic countries, such as France and Spain, another reason to attack England and

laws on Catholics and helped Protestants in Spanish Holland rebel. This made the Spanish

abilities to share ideas, negotiate, compromise, and to move on when told, I don t want to play

Although modern society disregards the theory of infantile sexuality and its relationship to neurotic
personality types, closer examination shows that a direct correlation exists. Freud s five stages of
infantile sexuality prove their significant impact on the eventual maturation of what is regarded as
adult psychosexual behaviors. Freud categorizes the stages of infantile sexuality as follows; oral,
anal, phallic, latency and genital. Each stage is represented by certain developmental behaviors,
which are innate in all normal functioning children. The complete transition of the libido from one
stage to the next is necessary to avoid fixation on a specific erogenous zone. Society s lack of

I.The Five Stages of Infantile Sexuality
The initial encounter with sensual behavior brings forth the first leap into psychosexual behaviors
of the oral stage. This action is initiated by the infant s earliest pleasurable experience, nursing. The
unavoidable drive of the libido is drawn into the only sensation of pleasure to the infant s
knowledge, the stimulation of the oral cavity. In this sense the libido is concerned with the
direction an individual focuses their energy. The total satisfaction received the first time the infant
nurses is what prompts the oral stage. From the initial contact with a mother s breast, a child desires
to recreate that same stimulation. This feeling is the unconscious drive along the journey of
psychosexual development. At this age everything the infant does is dependent on caregivers.
There is no sense of independence. When teeth are formed, caregivers begin weening the infant
away from relying on nursing as its form of sustenance. The forceful way the authoritative figures
introduce autonomy creates conflict. The libido does not willingly detach from the oral fixation,
and total dependent state. Once the primary form of stimulation is no longer available the child
substitutes it for whatever is nearest to him. This accounts for why babies enjoy putting objects
into their mouths; bottles, pacifiers, fingers, toes, and keys. Because the sense of ego has not come

23. The Reggio Emilia Approach Essay
The Reggio Emilia Approach
Hailed by Newsweek (1991) magazine as the international role model for preschools, the Reggio
Emilia approach has caught the attention of early childhood educators. In 1999, current
Secretary of Education, Richard W. Riley visited the schools in Reggio Emilia to better
understand its benefits (Dunne, 2000). It s principals are understood by only a few, however,
and has limited following with approximately 1200 Reggio inspired preschools in operation,
most of them private (Sipprelle, 2009), making the innovative ideas offered by this approach

The land was donated and so was the labor. Many of the materials were recycled from the ruins
created by the war (Source, 0000).
While there is no fixed curriculum or one specific model to emulate, the Reggio Emilia approach
does have some essential components, some fundamental ideas about how children learn most
effectively. The utmost is the idea that the young child is inherently competent not only as a learner
but as an initiator. The child has preferences and opinions that have value and should be listened to
with respect and care, knowing that they have much to offer their classroom community and
community at large. This pedagogy plays a large role in shaping the Reggio classroom. It allows the
children to pursue projects which are interesting and meaningful and then allowing adequate time to
follow those projects with passion.
The Reggio Emilia approach is an emergent curriculum because it is developed and shaped by the
interests of the child, through negotiations between the child, parents and teachers. This is done in
a Reggio classroom by in large and small group projects in which the children engage. The projects
involve planning, hands on activities, research, and representation through a variety of visual
media. The observant teacher collects documentation which is a vital component of the Reggio
philosophy in the form of written anecdotes, samples of children s work, photographs and videos.

25. Animal Testing Should Not Be Banned Essay
An animal is taken, injected with all kinds substances, then killed from the tests ran by
researchers. Meanwhile, an old woman is laying on her death bed waiting for the same researchers
to find a cure but dies before researchers can succeed. Which scenario do you think is worse? This
is a difficult question and may not have an answer. Animal testinghas been around for centuries
starting with early Greek physicians around 384 BC. These Greek physicians included Aristotle,
Erasistratus, and Galen, who all created huge contributions to medical history. Throughout history
animal testing has helped to cure many diseases including polio, diabetes, smallpox, and many
more. These cures have helped save thousands of lives and would not have been possible without
the help of animals. However, these contributions did not occur without the cost of hurting
animals in the process. There have been some laws, like the federal food, drug, and cosmetic act,
that requires safety testing of drugs on animals before they can be sold. Both animal lives and
human lives are affected by animal testing in many ways, making this topic very important. 100
million animals die each year due to animal testing but there are also many diseases that haven t
been cured, making animal testing necessary. Animal testing has both saved lives and taken them
away. Us humans have to decide how many animal lives are worth the knowledge gained. In this
paper I will address and analyze two alternate perspectives,

26. The Key Concepts Of The United States Recognition And...
2.1 Key concepts
De facto states: From the Greek polis to nowadays sovereign state, the concept of state has changed
and evolved during time. Today, the 1933 Montevideo Convention sets the rights and duties of state.
Each sovereign state as a person of international law should possess the following qualifications: (a)
permanent population; (b) defined territory; (c) government; and (d) capacity to enter into relations
with the other states. By contrast, a de facto state is, a secessionist entity capable of delivering
governmental services while maintaining effective control over a given population and territory
(Pegg 1998). Yet, if de facto states fulfil, the first three criteria mentioned above, they have usually
a limited capacity to enter in relation with other states, precisely, because they are denied official
existence through non recognition. The ultimate goal of these states is to achieve recognition and
constitutional independence (Lynch 2004). The recognition act can be seen or used as a
discretionary power (of sovereign states) mainly of a political nature. However, the criteria defined
by the convention are very limitative, and oversee only official status, not the way a state functions
or should function. In another word, what technically, differentiate de facto state vis Г vis of any
other sovereign state is related to the fulfilment of the last criterion. Hence, if the key element is the
recognition, one may wonder why this recognition seems hard to obtain.

From: David H Rhodes, Keeble Park North, Bishopthorpe, York. THE school examination results

very hard work. Congratulations to them.
This does, however, bring an air of confusion as to the genuine merit and value of the grades

Correct me if I am wrong, but I believe that 50 years ago only a percentage of examinees were
passed in each grade, A, B, etc. If so, it would have had the benefit of stricter marking and no

Sad indictment of council s culture policy
From: Alice Sheepshanks, Arthington, near Leeds.
AS the air reverberates with the sound of rock from the Leeds Festival, at Bramham, I sorely
lament the lack of some culture and hope most sincerely that next year it will be possible for
Leeds City Council to support the Leeds Shakespeare Festival again.
It is so important to cater for all tastes, and not just to bow to the lowest common denominator. I
believe wholeheartedly that Shakespeare can be appreciated by all ages and classes, particularly if
performed by this most skilful and dedicated troupe, the British Shakespeare Company.
I have taken my two children (now aged 12 and 14) to the performances at Kirkstall Abbey since
they were quite small. They adored the spectacle, the language, the plot it was a marvellous
opportunity for them.
I feel desperately sad that this year they can wander about at Bramham and listen to the thundering
sound of Metallica and Tenacious D (which they love) but The Tempest or A Midsummer Night s
Dream are out of the question.
What a sad indictment on Leeds City Council.

28. Wood Thrush Populations
The paper explicitly outlined the four key questions, asking (1) Is there evidence that
asymmetrical dispersal and therefore source sink dynamics occur consistently over time between
pairs of Wood Thrush populations? And if so (2), over what distance(s) does this occur? (3) Do
identified sources occur in areas with more habitat than their dependent sinks? And (4), are source
sink dynamics clustered in any particular part of the species range? (Tittler, Fahrig Villard 2006, p.
2)
Identifying key words, in this case posit , helps identify the hypothesis quickly.
We posit that, when dispersal occurs from a source to a sink year after year, there will be a one
year time lagged correlation in abundance between the two populations
(Tittler, Fahrig Villard 2006, p. 1).
The authors often restate their hypothesis multiple times to clarify to readers the intent of their
research. In other words, a decline in abundance in the source population in one year will result in a
decline in the sink population in the following year, as a smaller source population produces fewer

When gold was discovered in 1848, a gold rush was created. James Marshall discovered it at Sutter
s Mill. People from around the world came to find gold for themselves and strike it rich. People
left their belongings and their families behind for a chance to find gold. Many people who came to
California did not find gold and lost most of their money. Before this California was relatively small
in population. Many towns in California that were small turned into boomtowns. Boomtowns were
cities which population grew exponentially. San Francisco had a population of 200 residents and
then grew to over 30,000 people during the gold rush. With all the people coming in, violence,
gangs, prostitution, and land destruction arose.

They committed hate crimes against the other races. Each ethnic group made their own

As one of the most powerful nations in the world The United States must protect its borders and

United States counters this spreading issue with the ballistic missile submarine to provide strategic
deterrence. Ballistic missile submarines have been important to the United States and Russia, as
well as other nuclear powers, since the beginning of the Cold War. Ballistic missile submarines can
evade satellites and discharge their nuclear munitions with little interference. This allows them to be
protected from a first strike directed against nuclear forces, permitting each side to maintain the
capability to launch an overwhelming retaliatory assault, even if all surface based missiles have
been obliterated. Furthermore, the deployment of extremely accurate missiles on quieter
submarines permits an attacker to advance closer to an adversary s coast and launch its missiles.
The ballistic missile submarine is the corner stone of the United States nuclear triad. It is also the
only survivable portion of the triad due to the ballistic missile submarines ever changing locations
and patrols. Much is classified about this stealthy monolith s technology and operating procedure.

39. Core Self And Reflective Self
The Developmental Mode Fonagy and colleagues (1991) differentiated the concepts of pre
reflective self and reflective self. The former is the rudimentary and unmediated part of individuals
internal world, while reflective self is more advanced and structured. The reflective self was
depicted as an internal observer (p.203) that registers psychic events, reflects on mental experience
and establishes representations of mental states like thoughts and feelings. Moreover, the reflective
self is interpersonal that its representation is shaped by the experiences interacting with other
people especially under emotional states. In other words, the reflective self is an achievement of
development which evolves in the context of early attachment relationship. The role of the
caregiver is empathized in the development of the infant s reflective self. The caregiver does not
only take care of the infant physically but also psychologically by containing the infant s
overwhelming emotions, reflecting on the infant s experience and representing it to the infant in a
form that the infant can understand. The process mitigates the discomfort and frustration of the
infant and provides an illusion that it is achieved within the infant s control. The experience of
being reflected on therefore becomes a part of the infant s core self structure. Later when the infant

According to Freud s psychodynamic theory development of personality depends on the interaction
of instincts and the environment during early years of childhood of an individual (first five years).

As a believer in Christ you know that we are born in sin. It is the human soul that is full of sin,
death and damnation (McGrath 121). It is only when one becomes a true believer that they will be
saved from suffering and damnation. How does one become a true believer and save themselves
from such a faith, this is the question Martin Luther addresses in his first argument, with much
detail. Martin Luther claims that this righteousness, the righteousness of God, can only be received
through justification by faith. The central idea of this doctrine is based off of the idea that the
individual sinner is incapable of self justification ... it is God who takes the inactive in justification.
(McGrath 125). Justification by faith thus does not mean that the sinner is justified because he or

Sinners are passive in this process not having to do anything to receive God s righteousness
while it is God that is active, as he is the one providing humans with this cloak of righteousness
(McGrath 122). Luther sees this cloak or covering of righteousness as being located on the sinner
s external person never to be absorbed by the person (McGrath 125). This idea of the
righteousness of God as only covering sinners is where the term alien righteousness come from. In
his lectures Luther developed the idea of the alien righteousness of Christ, imputed not imparted to
the believer of faith, as the grounds of justification (McGrath 126). When you think of alien
righteousness do not think of the ugly green people, from outer space, that come to earth on
spaceships, instead think of the righteousness that God gives as being alien to the sinner. In this
context alien means foreign, not a part of, so God s righteousness is a foreign substance to the
persons body, never to be absorbed by the person. Luther believed Sin and righteousness thus
coexist: we remain sinners inwardly, but are righteous extrinsically, in the sight of God (McGrath
