Black Single Mom Research Paper
When I was in middle school, not a week went by where I was not sent out of class. Given my thirst
for learning, I remember being frustrated leaving the classroom with my head held low and a referral
in hand. My teachers would always tell me, your mouth is going to get you in trouble! Yet, I never
comprehended how my actions warranted my removal. Raised by a successful Black single mother,
she taught me at an early age what it meant to be a Black woman in today s American society. The
daughter of field workers from Mississippi, education was my mother s most important value. My
grandparents worked hard to make sure she and her siblings received the education they did not and in
turn, my mother stopped at nothing to make sure my brother ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

My mother s valuable life lessons made me an analytical young scholar and a head strong campus
leader and activist. Now as a graduate student and an educator in an urban school district, I often
reflect on the ways my voice was criminalized and stifled voice during my K 12 experience. Watching
my Black female students endure the same type of pushout from their teachers like I did, I began to
question what our educational systems are doing to our girls. Seeking answers, I soon grew frustrated
with the lack of gender and race based studies for Black girls in urban school settings. We were
trapped in the juncture of race and gender where studies on Black youth focus primarily on issues
encountered by Black boys and the studies on girls gives attention to the challenges faced by White
girls. Because of the absence of information on Black girls, many often make the assumption that
Black girls are not up against some unique challenges of their own which is far from the

Negative Effects Of Urban Development On The Environment...
Beaches are some of the most romanticized places on the planet, for good reason; however, the
encroachment of humans onto beach and coastal habitats has resulted in several negative outcomes. At
Santa Monica State Beach (and adjoining pier), one of the most popular and polluted beaches in
California, the impacts of urban development, industry, and other man made problems have caused
mass pollution in the surrounding environment. The effects this pollution has on the coastal wildlife,
water quality, and human health are catastrophic to the ecology and natural habitat of the beach. The
beach began to decline in the early twentieth century with the construction of the Santa Monica Pier in
1909 after sixteen weeks of construction that on its own resulted in many tons of concrete being
poured into Santa Monica Bay (City of Santa Monica, 2015). Over the next few decades land
developers, and beach goers alike contributed a toxic combination of chemicals, bacteria, and trash
that has resulted in Santa Monica Bay having several dead zones (Heal the Bay, 2015), which
devastate the marine life population.
Geology of Santa Monica Beach There is relatively little information on the natural geological history
of Santa Monica State Beach; however, there is an explanation as to why. The beach was one of the
very first beaches in California to be artificially doctored starting in the early twentieth century. The
carousel manufacturer, Charles I.D. Looff, purchased the land directly south

Quaker s Reasons For Buying Snapple And Snapple Essay
1. Quaker s reasons for buying Snapple and their strategy for Snapple
Quaker wanted to expand their footprint in the beverage industry and add Snapple to create the most
innovative distribution system in the industry. They expected the following benefits:
For consumers: Snapple and Gatorade will be available in many more locations
For trade customers: more merchandising, points of sale, and in store refrigerators
For Snapple: Quaker s resources, management skills, packaging experience, supply chain expertise,
and modern information systems.
For Quaker: Economies of scale and higher penetration for Gatorade (increase in sales, points of sale,
geography), especially in cold channels. Synergies between the two brands in cold and warm
channels, and geographic presence as well as the combination of corporate and entrepreneurial
mindsets.
The strategy was to integrate Snapple s entrepreneurial culture but manage the brand with a corporate
perspective. This included cutting ties with Snapple s eccentric spokespeople and transitioning the
brand from fashion to mainstream and lifestyle. Also, Snapple s distributors should only supply cold
channels (with Snapple and Gatorade) whereas Quaker would integrate Snapple in its distribution to
warm channels.
2. Root causes for Quaker s failure with Snapple
Quaker s strategy eroded Snapple s positioning and appeal for consumers, alienated channel partners,
and left them with a large product portfolio that is difficult to

Economic Thought Is The Most Confusing Chapter By Modern...
One of the most complicated concepts throughout the history of economic thought is the idea of the
measure of value. Therefore, it is no surprise Adam Smith s An Inquiry into the Nature and Causes of
the Wealth of Nations Chapter five, entitled Of the real and nominal Price of Commodities, or of their
Price in Labour, and their Price in Money , is considered the most confusing chapter by modern
economist. Smith attempts to explain the measure of value and the mechanisms, by which that value
fluctuates. Value, as defined by Smith, has two different meanings, and sometimes, expresses the
utility of some particular object, and sometimes the power of purchasing other goods which the
possession of that object conveys. He further clarifies these values as value in use and value in
exchange, defined as the value an individual receives from the use of a good and the value an
individual would pay for or would be willing to sell a good for, respectively. The chapter consist of
three main goals, Smith endeavored to show what is the real measure of this exchangeable value, what
are the real parts of which this real price is composed, and what are the different circumstances which
sometimes raise some or all of these different parts of price above, and sometimes sink them below
their natural or ordinary rate. Showing the real measure of an exchangeable value quickly proves
difficult. Smith is content to conclude, Labour, therefore, is the real measure of the

Education Is The Key To A Better, Developed And Civilized...
Education has been told to us as the key to a better, developed and civilized society. With proper
education, there can be no limits to an individual s achievements in life; but on the other hand, lack of
access to education is a major building block to a primitive, backward and uncivilized society. A bad
education system designed not for learning but only to keep children who can not afford private
education in schools is a recipe for oppression as it widens the gap between socioeconomic status,
gender and age. It trains people to be a part of a capitalistic and oppressive society by reinforcing
classism, racism and sexism (Lipsitz, Lozenski, Ford, 2014).
A better society is defined by its quality of education and health standards. It has been notice that
where there the education system is oppressive or oppressed, the health sector follows suit. One
cannot go through an oppressive education system and expect the opposite when it comes to health
care provisions. Therefore the system of education has a direct impact on the health care system of a
society, the rich who benefit from the system of education also benefit from health care system. It
comes into play when I look at the system of education that makes the rich white majority acquire
better education services at the expense of their black counterparts or people with color in the society
(Giroux, 2017).
A system that chooses controlled base on color and social standing in the society has contributed to

High Stakes Testing And The Turn Is Not Well Received
The educational forum has had many trend changes over years. The current trend in education is
mainly focused on accountability through assessment, such as standardized tests.
There are many defining factors and elements that are articulated in the realm of standardized testing.
Some of these factors are academic shift from learning to accountability in learning, test data, the
problems that plague education and schools related to standardized tests, and the possible solutions for
them. Education has gone from standardized testing to high stakes testing and the turn is not well
received. A standardized test is defined by, The Glossary of Education Reform , as any form of test

This literature will focus on focusing on large scale, high stakes testing. They can include multiple
choice questions, true false questions, short answer questions, essay questions, or a mix of question
types. The article titled, Standardized Tests states, that the most common forms of standardized tests
are: achievement tests, aptitude tests, college admission tests, international comparison tests, and
psychological tests. Standardized tests have been around for hundreds of years. The test originated in
the 1800 s. The test was created by Horace Mann. The test was to decide how students were mastering
their current level of work and whether they should proceed to the next level. There were no negative
consequences associated with the tests or scores. After the publication of the Coleman Report
(Coleman et al., 1966), which took an in depth look into the education system and analyzed how the
education system affected student achievement, the use of standardized achievement tests for
accountability became the trend. It was all about everyone involved in the education of a body of
students should be held accountable for the learning and teaching of those students. The teachers and
others involved had to answer to the political bodies that were providing funding for the education
system. In 2001 the No Child Left Behind Act was passed under the administration of President Bush.
The act is based on improving instructional outcomes for students with disabilities. The

Analysis Of Ayn Rand s Anthem
Ayn Rand, a Russian American novelist, philosopher, and playwright wrote the novella Anthem in
1937. During the time Rand was writing this novella, the ruthless dictator Joseph Stalin mercilessly
ruled over Russia. Also during this time, the beginnings of World War II took place. These events
more than likely inspired the plot for Anthem, a dystopian fiction. Rand s projection of the
totalitarianism of Anthem s society is astounding, the book itself has feeling and meaning in
correlation to today s world. Anthem depicts a collectivism dictatorship world of the future as in this
world there is no I , these people are forced to follow a strict set of rules, and they are born in bulk,
learning and knowing only what their higher powers want them to learn and know. ... Show more

The characters of the story refer to themselves as we or us forcing them into a bond of conventionality.
In the novella, Rand expresses this fact by using we several times in the first chapter alone, stating
sentences such as We are alone here under the earth...We are twenty one years old. We are six feet
tall... We were born with a curse . In addition, Rand projects the collectivism of this society by
allowing the reader to look into the minds of the main character Prometheus (formerly known as
Equality 7 2521). Rand does this by writing this character in a way that portrays him as yearning to be
an individual. This is proven throughout the novella as Prometheus struggles to find himself and his
ego. Through this evidence, it is clear that Anthem shows a clear perspective on a collectivist
dictatorship world of the future by expressing that in said world, there is no

Working Poor Essay
The Struggle of the Working Poor
Revised Essay
Sociology 113
Yvonne Barney
October 19, 2012
The Struggle of the Working Poor
Society often describes the impoverished with one word, lazy. Society has taught us that if a person
wants to be financially successful, it is a simple process of education and hard work that will equate to
a successful income. This is the American dream. If the impoverished simply would get a job instead
of being lazy, they would not need to rely on programs like welfare. The impoverished would succeed
if they only would apply themselves. However, in an attempt to present another point of view, The
Working Poor Invisible in America by David K. Shipler (2004) explored multiple variables this group
struggles ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Chapter 9, Dreams, begins with the ambitious professional aspirations of sixth and eighth grade
children from poor families in Washington, DC. Shipler contrasts these aspirations with the enormous
faced problems beyond their control. Chapter 10, Work Works, is dedicated to the positive impact that
job training and working has had on some poor individuals and families. Job training programs that
teach soft skills as well as hard skills and are successful in instilling confidence and self esteem are
appreciated by employers. Chapter 11, Skill and Will, emphasizes that American society must
understand what it can do using the skills and resources it has to combat poverty. The approach to
remedying poverty, Shipler argues, must be holistic, tackling all problems associated with it at once.
The United States is often described as a place where anyone can pick themselves up by their
bootstraps and realize the American dream of a comfortable lifestyle. But, for over 30 million
Americans, this dream is no longer possible. Though we live in the richest and most powerful country
in the world, there are many individuals who are living under or at the poverty level. While the United
States has enjoyed unprecedented affluence, low wage employees have been testing the American
doctrine that hard work cures poverty (Shipler, 2004). The status of poverty translates

Battle Of Trenton Essay
The Battle of Trenton marked a decisive victory for the Colonial Army that helped to solidify the
American people in fighting for independence from Great Britain. General Washington was able to
leverage available human and counter intelligence to gain the upper hand and defeat the Hessian force
garrisoned in the town. Had Washington not acted on the intelligence available at the time, it is
possible that the Colonial cause would not have lasted though that winter. This paper will analyze the
two forces that took part in the battle and describe how each side used, or failed to use available
intelligence. Additionally, it will postulate alternate outcome should Washington not have acted on the
information available.

Reports indiacte that Rall s overconfidence in the Colonial s weak state led to tactical errors. Rall
ignored intelligence that the Colonials were planning an attack, he did not believe that the Colonials
had sufficient men to mount an attack on his location. Because of his over confidence, Rall did not see
it necessary to fortify his position.
The Plan of Attack Following a string of defeats against the British, Washington knew decisive action
must take place in order to maintain morale within his force. On 22 December, Washington gathered
with his war council to discuss their options to strike a victory against their opposing force. They
voted to conduct a surprise attack against the troops garrisoned in Trenton, New Jersey.
The plan called for three forces to conduct different missions to bring the desired result of Colonial
victory. The first unit, commanded by Washington, would cross the Delaware River, north of Trenton,
on Christmas night. Of the additional two forces, one would cross to block the Hessian withdrawal
while the other would conduct a diversion attack. The plan relied on surprise to be effective against
the Hessians garrisoned in Trenton to maximize available combat power. Lastly, should the battle be
successful, Washington planned additional follow on battles to monopolize his success in Princeton

Cassandra In Greek
Maybe she was better off sneaking away in the dead of night and running as far from Troy as she
could get. Wherever she collapsed from exhaustion would be where she began a new, simple life. It
was a nice idea, but Cassandra could never abandon her family. They were all she had, all she knew,
and despite some glaring faults, they were good people she was grateful to have. Movement to
Cassandra s left caught her attention and she froze. She slowly turned to get a better glimpse of it, and
had to bite her tongue to keep from gasping. She was not a stone s throw away from the largest wolf
she d ever seen. If stood on its hind legs, it would tower over Hector the tallest man Cassandra knew.
The wolf s head would be level to her chest if she stood next to it. It had a thick, long coat that looked

In an instant, Cassandra was consumed with the need to have it. She would not go home until she had
made the creature succumb to her superiority. And its fur would be the greatest display in the King s
game room, even if Helenus had to be the one to claim the kill as his own. Cassandra sent a silent
thanks to the gods as she selected an arrow, readied her bow, and forced her nerves to quiet. She took
two long, slow breaths like Hector had made her do before each shot when he d trained her. When she
felt grounded and calm she lined up the shot and drew back the bowstring. The wolf remained
blissfully ignorant of its impending doom as she released the bowstring with the confidence borne
from years of practice. The arrow flew swiftly as it made a straight path for the wolf s exposed neck.
The sharpened arrowhead embedded itself easily into the animal s flesh, causing the wolf to cry out

Analysis Of The Wold s Wife By Carol Ann Duffy
A feminist interpretation of any piece of literature would explore ...the belief that women are
oppressed or disadvantaged by comparison with men, and that their oppression is... illegitimate or
unjustified. In The Wolds Wife Carol Ann Duffy explores the idea that women are subject to
oppression in everyday life and as a result of this lose their sense of identity, however within three of
the poems in this collection Little Red Cap, Medusa and Pygmalion s Bride Duffy rejects convention
by positioning the female as the protagonist within her poems therefore rejecting societal expectations.
The women in these poems do not always abide by the stereotypical behaviours of a woman and the
heteronormativity which is enforced through not only the media but through fairy tales where young
children are taught that as a girl they need to be saved Duffy renounces this idea through
demonstrating in her poems that this should not be accepted as the way of doing things therefore
criticising patriarchy.
Heteronormativity being ...the belief that people fall into distinct and complementary genders (man
and woman) with natural roles in life Duffy instead subverts this idea of conventional gender
stereotypes within her revised tales of well known stories which assert the belief that women
understand that men and women are different and that those very differences provide the key to her
success as a person and fulfilment as a woman . The subversion of such gender stereotypes

American Reconstruction after the Civil War Essay
Reconstruction was a period of time after the Civil War (1865 1877) that was supposed to be the
rebuilding of America. It was also the process used to readmit all the Confederate states back into the
Union. There was controversy, however, on how to go about rebuilding the nation. Abraham Lincoln
proposed a lenient plan. After he was assassinated, Andrew Johnson proposed a very similar plan. The
Radical Republicans, a group of legislators that were in favor of freedmen s rights, were opposed to
both plans under Presidential Reconstruction . They initiated Congressional Reconstruction . Because
of the conflicting views, there was little cooperation between the Executive and Legislative branches.

Johnson stated that the seven remaining states would be admitted if: they withdrew its secession,
swore allegiance to Union, anul Confederate was debts, and ratify the 13th Amendment, which
abolished slavery. The only main difference being that Johnson did not want high ranking
Confederates and wealthy Southern landowners to take the oath needed to vote. The Radical
Republicans were infuriated by Johnson s Plan because it failed to effectively help former slaves.
They wanted a plan stricter on the punishment of the Southerners, and one that addressed the land,
voting, and protection under the law of slaves. This is why when Johnson pardoned all Southerners the
Radicals refused to admit the Southern representatives back into Congress. The Radical Republicans,
and the rest of Congress, were the ones who passed most of the bills for Reconstruction, because of
their ability to override the president with their majority. They expanded the Freedmen s Bureau,
which did show some progress in the helping of former slaves and poor white men. The Freedmen s
Bureau set up hospitals, schools, and also gave out supplies. This achieved the enablement of former
slaves having the right to free education. Later on, however, the Freedmen s Bureau became
neglected, and was often forgotten or overlooked. The Freedmen s Bureau is accurately described in
this following statement, This auspicious beginning belied the great disappointments that lay ahead,

199 0 s were the Decade of Superiority
1990 s, the decade of superiority The 1990 s was a decade of great advancement and achievements.
The music, technology and the way technology was used advanced and changed how everything is to
this day. If the achievements of the 1990 s never happened we wouldn t be where we are in society to
this day. Looking back at the 90 s, its far superior over any other decade because of the great music,
the amazing invention of the internet and creation of Google that were all familiar with. In October
1969 two teams of computer scientists, linked computers over telephone lines to operate as a single
system. The U.S. military supported the research, hoping to get communications that would work even
if part of the system were disabled or destroyed in a nuclear attack. Which turned into the genesis of
the Internet Age. In the 90s the Internet changed every aspect of the daily life. Anyone with a
computer, telephone, and modem literally had a digital library at their fingers. As the 90 s came to an
end a new kind of technology was beginning (Malvasi, Mark G., Greene 1).
The 1990s was a time of such tumult and confusion as far as the Internet was concerned that no one

A Brief Note On Pedestrian Detection Of Surveillance
Pedestrian Detection in Surveillance
Abstract
Pedestrian detection is fragmented as there are numerous algorithms used in different research. This
research aims to provide an overview to understand the current state of pedestrian detection as well as
analyse the challenges, effectiveness, accuracy and cost benefit of different approaches used in
surveillance and how current challenges are being tackled.
Introduction
Pedestrian detection is a key problem in computer vision. There are a number of ways that makes it
difficult to achieve without faults due to the differences in colour, motion, orientation and poses of
individual human beings but also segregation of the background which may or may not be cluttered as
well as other moving objects that just might get in the way.
Even though it is a difficult matter it is still a major research areas as there a great implications of
perfecting the system. Key application could include in the field of surveillance, robotics as well as a
tool in vehicular safety. It can also be used in a commercial apects as businesses would be able to
count the number of pedestrians creating a flow statistics for optimizing their business. For it to be
effective it should be able to handle emerging complex scenarios such as speed of detection for
vehicles to enable them to avoid or stop immediately and the accuracy in detecting pedestrian through

Gender Barriers inside Sports Essay
Gender Barriers inside Sports
Throughout the history of sports, there has always been a gender barrier. There are certain sports that
are aimed towards females and others that are directed towards males. When men or women enter a
non traditional sport for their gender, it is not widely accepted. However, there are those few athletes
that pave the way for the rest and eventually our society will change and accept the new ideas in
sports. Some people will always make judgments about the athletes who cross that gender barrier. At
the same time there are others who will respect and look up to these athletes as role models who they
will someday follow.

Many young boys are faced with this thought every day, because they are males participating in non
traditional sports for their gender. Just as society does not agree with women in men s sports, it does
not look highly upon men taking part in women s sports either. In the article, Stereotypes Are Often
Overrated, a young boy named Daniel Hile who is a sophomore in high school had always wanted to
join ballet, but never did. Instead, he picked Tae Kwon Do and weightlifting, which are considered to
be more masculine sports. He says that ballet is not accepted in his close minded and conservative
hometown and they stereotype male ballet dancers as being homosexuals (Stereotypes). Another ballet

Ancient Indian Civilization
ANCIENT INDIAN CIVILIZATION
INTRODUCTION
In the 1920s, a huge discovery in South Asia proved that Egypt and Mesopotamia were not the only
early civilizations. In the vast Indus River plains (located in what is today Pakistan and western India),
under layers of land and mounds of dirt, archaeologists discovered the remains of a 4,600 year old
city. A thriving, urban civilization had existed at the same time as Egyptian and Mesopotamian states
in an area twice each of their sizes. The Indian civilization is one of the most ancient civilizations of
the world. It is known as the Sindhu civilization or the Indus Valley civilization or the Aryan
civilization. Sometimes it is also referred to as the Vedic civilization.

CLIMATE
Climate was an ingredient in early Indian civilizations for several reasons. Monsoons, winds that mark
the seasons, are one of the most immediate. The first monsoon of the season blows from North to
Northeast periodically during November through March. Little rain is present during this monsoon,
however what precipitation does fall, it falls on the Northern slope of the Himilayas. During mid June
through October a second monsoon indicates the Wet Season a.k.a. the southwest monsoon. Following
the southwest monsoon, heavy rains fall in its wake (however sparse rainfall falls on the Western
Ghats, the heaviest rainfull occours over the Ganges Valley and the Eastern Himilayan Mountains).
The timing of these winds is critical; too little or too late rainfall results in an unsuccessful harvest, yet
too much or an extended period of rainfall causes flooding along the country side. Temperatures also
play a significant role in how Indian s settled the land in anchient times. The ideal area the Deccan
plateau had mild temperatures in the summer opposed to the blistering heat of the Western Ghats and
valleys which could climb up to one hundred twenty degrees farenheit.
The annual rainfall in the Indus region varies between 5 and 20 inches (125 to 500 millimeters).
Except for the mountainous section of Pakistan, the Indus valley lies in the driest part of the
subcontinent. Northwestern winds

China s Long Standing Battle Against Air Pollution
Smoggy sky: China s long standing battle against air pollution
Smog has been spreading rapidly in China since 2013 with an increased number of haze days, which
seriously affected residents daily life. Smog as an environmental problem has become a major social
concern and the government has promulgated a number of policies and governance strategies. In June
2013, the State Council carried on the ten air pollution control measures and strived to practice the
code of conduct share breath and struggle . Subsequently, the State Council promulgated the Air
Pollution Control Action Plan ; the provinces and municipalities published the implementation details
of air pollution control action plan and other documents. The introduction of these policies not only
indicates that China urgently needs to solve the haze problem, but also shows Chinese government s
determination of environmental pollution control. China increases efforts to solve the air pollution
including haze problem, and there are some results. However, consecutive smoggy skies and
continuous spread across the country also show that for China air pollution governance will be a long
battle.
If we want to govern the smoggy sky, we need to know what the smog is at first. Smog is a type of air
pollutant. The word smog was coined in the early 20th century as a portmanteau of the words smoke
kind of fog to refer to smoky fog. A similar and severe environmental issue in London from the 1900s
to mid 2000s which was

How Does Empedocles Apply To Greek Philosophy
Greek Philosopher: Empedocles
Empedocles was an apotheosized philosopher. Renowned for his work in physics and cosmology. Or
so he prefered to believe in the final hours of his life on his way to jump into the crater of Etna. This
theory is quite colorful but is not wholly accepted as truth, of course. His death did attract much
attention and as stated by the American Journal of Philosophy by Ava Chitwood has fascinated both
scholars and poets from ancient until modern times . The presocratic philosopher s said demise does
relate, in part, to his three greatest philosophies/beliefs: the four elements, the cosmic properties of
Philotes (Love) and Neikos (Strife/Repulsion), and reincarnation. The following paragraphs will

Empedocles rode the coattails of Pythagoras when it came to certain doctrines of reincarnation. He
believed that all souls were reincarnated into different beings in this world. He strongly advertised the
need to be vegetarian to explain his theory. He believed that killing and feeding on the meat of animals
could potentially equal cannibalism (Encyclopedia of Stanford). He wrote in Purifications of a man
who unknowingly killed his own formerly deceased son for he was reincarnated as an animal. Thus he

Video Games Should Not Be A Sport Essay
The gaming community has recently seen a major rise in Esports as a way for the best gamers to show
off their skill in competitions. One of the most recent Esports events that took place this summer was
the Overwatch World Cup. According to the ESM.One project, over 5 million people watched the
tournament on Twitch. Twitch is an online service for people to livestream their gameplay while
making money through donations, subscription, and advertisements. So with the influx of viewership
and the massive popularity, should video games and Esports be considered a sport? According to the
Oxford Dictionary a sport is defined as, an activity involving physical exertion and skill in which an
individual or team competes against another or others for entertainment. If someone were to ask me,
What sports do you play? I would never respond with video games. A video game should be

Unless moving fingers is considered physical exertion, video games should not be regarded as a sport.
Some advocators for video games being sports might say they have athletic ability. They have natural
ability and tremendous concentration to play games at a competitive level. In an article from The
Daily Kansan the writer says, Video games are largely an exercise in mental ability and lack any
component of bodily exertion. Watching the best players in the world is tremendous. Video games
require mass amounts of diligence to be played at a high level, but these games are not similar to
traditional sports. An athlete goes to practice to keep themself in shape for their next game or match.
Gamers practice toning their mental skills and strategy. There is a visible barrier between the physical
aspect of a sport and the mental aspect of a video

The Beauty Of Victoria s Secret
Behind the Beauty of Victoria s Secret Introduction: I remember the first time I ever stepped foot into
a Victoria s Secret, I was fifteen years old. I was mesmerized by the bright pink and white walls. The
signature PINK dogs scattered all over the PINK side of the store. The cosmetics section was
sparkling in the distance and the signature fragrances filled the air. I remember the feeling of finally
being grown up, here I was shopping for fragrances and bras in the same store that my Mom and Aunt
bought theirs at. When you are fifteen there is nothing else in the world that matters more than feeling
grown up, you are no longer a kid and there is a whole new world for you to explore. Talking to
women, most have the same first experience at the store, in fact it is nearly the closest thing to magic
some young girls will experience in this era of their lives. This unfortunately, is not going to be about
that coming of age experience this paper is a whole lot deeper than any fifteen year old girl buying her
first grown up bra could ever imagine. Victoria s Secret a common name in households with women
from young adulthood to mature womanhood. What is Victoria s actual secret you may ask? That
would be a whole behind the scenes world of global fair trade issues and sweatshops. When you start
to think about a company that many women shop at you do not think about where the objects you are
buying are really coming from. This is a company after all that has vouched for free

Justin was akin to a father to Justinian, he gave him salvation where he struggled and practically
reinvigorated his will to learn and do well in the world. While Justin enabled Justinian to learn and
become an amazing man, he also attempted to find his way into the seat of the throne while the rule
was weak. Justin had very obviously failed seeing as he was NOT fit to be a ruler, he was not an
intelligent man after all. Justinian witnessed his uncle s failure and was able to learn from the
experience and, using his position as the King s bodyguard (Citation), intelligence and military
experience, weaseled his way into the throne, and into the position of King. As the King, Justinian was
powerful. He held a large blade over all others that opposed him and was the largest factor as to why
many of his people had been in fear. At any moment he could have crumpled under the pressure of all
the power he held in the palm of his hand, and he had, multiple times. To easily and very simply
accentuate his power, he would force those who approached him to bow down on their hands and feet

Reflective Essay About Math
There is a short list of things that keep me up at night. Beyond being anxious or too excited for
something that s happening tomorrow, math is the most common offender. Ironic because math is
infamous for making students sleep. When I get my head wrapped around a problem, I cannot seem to
sleep until I have come to some satisfactory conclusion or found a way to get my mind off of it.
Although, holding my sleep hostage really is a great way to make me solve the problem! I don t just
think about it when I sleep, it also invades my thoughts when I m trying to focus on an audiobook in
the car or as I am walking and taking in the scenery of early morning Harrisburg on my way to school.
I love thinking about math and the reward of finding a problem s solution is ever so satisfying. I know
that whatever I focus on in my future has to involve these kinds of problems, the problems that keep
me up at night and entertain my thoughts throughout the day.
I also, however, love to learn about the sciences. I am ever curious about the make up of molecular
compounds, the interaction of particles at the subatomic level, unification theory, the origin of mass,
spooky action at a distance (one of my favorites. Thanks, Einstein,) physics influence on my view of
functions, entanglement, and the mathematics of electrical systems. This list is just the start; I have yet
to start asking the deep questions in biology, anthropology, and other sciences! As if it isn t hard

A Brief Note On The And Its Effects On The Environment
CHAPTER 4
POLLUTION DUE TO EMISSIONS
IC engines generate undesirable emissions during the combustion process. The emissions exhausted
into the surroundings pollute the atmosphere and causes following problems.
Global warming
Acid rain
Smog
Odors
Respiratory and other health hazards.
The major causes of these emissions are non stoichiometric combustion, dissociation of nitrogen, and
impurities in the fuel and air. The emissions of concern are unburnt hydro carbons (HC), oxides of
carbon (COX), oxides of nitrogen (NOX), oxides of sulphur (SOX) and solid carbon particulates.
It is the dream of engineers and scientists to develop engines and fuels such that very few quantity of
harmful emissions are generated, and these could be let into the surroundings without a major impact
on the environment. However with the present technology this is not possible, and after treatment of
the exhaust gases as well as in cylinder reduction of emissions is important.
4.1 AIR POLLUTION DUE TO IC ENGINES
Until the middle of the 20th century the number of IC engines in the world was so small that the
pollution they caused was tolerable. During that period the environment, with the help of sunlight,
stayed relatively clean. As world population grew, power plants, factories, and an ever increasing
number of automobiles began to pollute the air to the extent that it is no longer acceptable. During the
late 1940s, air pollution as a problem was first recognized in the Los Angeles basin

Frederick Douglass was a powerful voice for African Americans. he was born a slavery yet was taught
to read and write. Frederick later escaped to New York and began touring around the country. he was
an abolitionist, advocate for equal rights and was a part of the anti slavery society. He spoke on July 5,
1852, in Rochester, New York. His speech was called The Meaning of July Fourth for the Negro . The
purpose of his speech was to give his opinions on the well known holiday, the fourth of July. Reading
the speech made me feel dumbfounded, amused and frustrated The Fourth of July is America s
independence day from Britain. However, slaves remained in the same position until after the civil
war. This is the reason why Douglass says and believes This Fourth July is yours, not mine. You may
rejoice, I must mourn. To drag a man in fetters into the grand illuminated temple of liberty, and call
upon him to join you in joyous anthems, were inhuman mockery and sacrilegious irony. I m left both
speechless and amused on how true this statement is. Americans expected everyone to celebrate their
day with them. While remaining hypocrites having once slaves and now segregation within their free
and fair nation. No one should expect respect or happiness from people Americana has hurt. Frederick

your conduct. And let me warn you that it is dangerous to copy the example of a nation

Analyzing The Song Good Riddance By Billie Joe Armstrong
Good Riddance by Green Day is my theme for my eighth grade year. This song was written by Billie
Joe Armstrong for the album Nimrod in 1997.
In the album recording of the song Billie messes up the opening chord progression twice before saying
a quiet explicative and playing the song correctly. The first couple weeks were pretty rough for me and
I often messed up or did things that I later regretted. This song is often played at graduations and
weddings, but this was not the intention of Billie Joe when he wrote the piece. Billie wrote it about a
breakup and his lyrics and style of the song is meant to be sarcastic and bitter. Unfortunately most
people don t know this and thus it s like the song doesn t know whether it should be sarcastic or
melancholy. During this year I never knew where I belong. I am ... Show more content on

Everyone I am friends with has friends that they know better or longer and would rather hang out
with. Everytime I feel like I finally am in control something happens that throws everything off again.
Good Riddance is different from the rest of the album in its sound. It has a soft calming acoustic guitar
with even a violin solo in the middle of the track contrasting highly with the distorted electric guitar
and powerful drumming in the album s other tracks. For a punk rock album this song is way too poppy
to be tolerated. It s existence itself is ironic as the bandmates themselves have said that the song is so
not punk that it is punk to include it in Nimrod. During this year I felt like this track in the album. I
felt like I was the only one around who was like me, everyone else seemed different and distant. Like

The Significant and Enduring Impact Louis Pasteur Had on...

public health and wonderful advances in medicines and invention of vaccines. Louis Pasteur was a

Pasteurization, the process of treating milk free of damage causing microorganisms (Louis Pasteur,

received his doctoral degree in 1847 with a thesis on crystallography. Pasteur studied how certain
crystals affect light and at the age of 26, he started working on his doctoral thesis on crystallography,
the study of forms and structures of crystals. Louis began working with two acids commonly found in
the sediments of fermenting wine. Tartaric acid and paratartaric acid were found a few years earlier to
have the same chemical composition, but there was something about these two acids that were
different and Louis sought to find the answer. He found that in solution the two rotated polarized light
differently, while tartaric acid rotated polarized light to the right, paratartaric acid did not rotate the
light at all. He then began to study the crystals of each acid under his microscope and noticed that
some of the crystals in paratartaric acid were slightly different from that of tartaric acid. Using a
dissecting needle and his microscope, he separated the different crystals into two piles, and upon
viewing each crystal in the microscope, he noticed that the crystals appeared to be mirror images of
themselves (Berche, 2012).

Dystopian Similarities Between 1984 And Hunger Games
Rishabh Engineer Mrs. Schroder English IV Honors 26 April 2018 The Comparison of Dystopian
Aspects within 1984 and Hunger Games George Orwell s novel 1984 created a bleak future where
there was little to no hope. Such a society can be classified as dystopia, a utopia with dark aspects.
Dystopian works are a subgenre of literature that highlights major ethical and humane issues by
creating a fictionalized setting where such issues can be seen. Dystopian literature has recently been
popularized through many modern authors such as Suzanne Collins and Veronica Roth; however,
earlier examples, such as 1984, can be seen as far back as mid 20th century. Dystopian literature can
be classified relatively easily due to its unique themes and characters. ... Show more content on

This distinct feature allows for the development of a story line that orbits around the protagonists life.
From the very start of 1984 you can notice this style, for instance when Winston explains his
surroundings and daily life. A kilometre away the Ministry of Truth, his place of work, towered vast
and white above the grimy landscape. This, he thought with a sort of vague distaste... (pg. 5). First
person narration does not only provide a realistic depiction of the protagonists life, but it allows for
the ideological revelations the protagonist realizes throughout the novel. Both Katniss and Winston
were first compliant with the governing system, however, through reflection, they realized the burdens
and constraints the government put upon them. From those realizations, dystopian protagonists such as
Katniss or Winston start countering the oppression through rebellion. Examples of such rebellion can
be seen through entire revolutions. From Katniss Mockingbird movement in book two and three, to
simple illegal acts, such as Winston s purchase of a diary. The willingness to rebel while knowing the
consequences not only displays the displeasure of the protagonists, but exemplifies the magnitude of
their displeasure. Winston and Katniss both understood the consequences of their actions, yet they did
it anyways. For Winston, in book two, he knew that his affair with Julia might get them both killed.
Yet he still continued the relationship, not only to not betray Julia, but because he felt like he was

The Argument From Religious Experience
The Argument from Religious Experience
The argument for God, based on personal Religious experiences, is an argument that cannot be refuted
by others. While others may not have the ability to prove the existence of God, through another s
experiences, they also cannot disprove this existence. A person s personal experiences are something
that no other person can determine, nor argue. My experiences are my interpretations for the
occurrences within my life, therefore, another person cannot determine what my true experiences are,
or how they make me feel or believe. Kreeft points out that there really is no need for an argument for

These experiences cannot be argued by anyone, since the person in which it occurred, is the only one
with the ability to provide the reality to others.
While a person may not have the ability to argue the experiences of another person, one can certainly
argue the differences in these reported experiences. Accounts from different people, who cite various
experiences, creates an argument against the existence of God, based on religious experiences.
Utilizing these inconsistencies, people attempt to refute the existence of God by outlining these
inconsistencies with various reports of the people claiming to have received these experiences (Holt,
2008). Persons who are skeptical of the religious experiences to support God will look to find
inconsistencies within the stories of those reporting these experiences. However, to the believer,
variances are a way of action for God. None of the miracles performed within the Bible were
performed in the same manner. While the overall miracle may have been the same, the manner in
which it was performed may vary. As an example, Jesus healed two blind men in vastly differing
ways. One man, Jesus spat in the dirt to create mud, then rubbed the mud on the man s eyes and
instructed him to wash in the pool of Siloam, to which the man

  • 2. Black Single Mom Research Paper When I was in middle school, not a week went by where I was not sent out of class. Given my thirst for learning, I remember being frustrated leaving the classroom with my head held low and a referral in hand. My teachers would always tell me, your mouth is going to get you in trouble! Yet, I never comprehended how my actions warranted my removal. Raised by a successful Black single mother, she taught me at an early age what it meant to be a Black woman in today s American society. The daughter of field workers from Mississippi, education was my mother s most important value. My grandparents worked hard to make sure she and her siblings received the education they did not and in turn, my mother stopped at nothing to make sure my brother ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... My mother s valuable life lessons made me an analytical young scholar and a head strong campus leader and activist. Now as a graduate student and an educator in an urban school district, I often reflect on the ways my voice was criminalized and stifled voice during my K 12 experience. Watching my Black female students endure the same type of pushout from their teachers like I did, I began to question what our educational systems are doing to our girls. Seeking answers, I soon grew frustrated with the lack of gender and race based studies for Black girls in urban school settings. We were trapped in the juncture of race and gender where studies on Black youth focus primarily on issues encountered by Black boys and the studies on girls gives attention to the challenges faced by White girls. Because of the absence of information on Black girls, many often make the assumption that Black girls are not up against some unique challenges of their own which is far from the ... • 3. Negative Effects Of Urban Development On The Environment... Beaches are some of the most romanticized places on the planet, for good reason; however, the encroachment of humans onto beach and coastal habitats has resulted in several negative outcomes. At Santa Monica State Beach (and adjoining pier), one of the most popular and polluted beaches in California, the impacts of urban development, industry, and other man made problems have caused mass pollution in the surrounding environment. The effects this pollution has on the coastal wildlife, water quality, and human health are catastrophic to the ecology and natural habitat of the beach. The beach began to decline in the early twentieth century with the construction of the Santa Monica Pier in 1909 after sixteen weeks of construction that on its own resulted in many tons of concrete being poured into Santa Monica Bay (City of Santa Monica, 2015). Over the next few decades land developers, and beach goers alike contributed a toxic combination of chemicals, bacteria, and trash that has resulted in Santa Monica Bay having several dead zones (Heal the Bay, 2015), which devastate the marine life population. Geology of Santa Monica Beach There is relatively little information on the natural geological history of Santa Monica State Beach; however, there is an explanation as to why. The beach was one of the very first beaches in California to be artificially doctored starting in the early twentieth century. The carousel manufacturer, Charles I.D. Looff, purchased the land directly south ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Quaker s Reasons For Buying Snapple And Snapple Essay 1. Quaker s reasons for buying Snapple and their strategy for Snapple Quaker wanted to expand their footprint in the beverage industry and add Snapple to create the most innovative distribution system in the industry. They expected the following benefits: For consumers: Snapple and Gatorade will be available in many more locations For trade customers: more merchandising, points of sale, and in store refrigerators For Snapple: Quaker s resources, management skills, packaging experience, supply chain expertise, and modern information systems. For Quaker: Economies of scale and higher penetration for Gatorade (increase in sales, points of sale, geography), especially in cold channels. Synergies between the two brands in cold and warm channels, and geographic presence as well as the combination of corporate and entrepreneurial mindsets. The strategy was to integrate Snapple s entrepreneurial culture but manage the brand with a corporate perspective. This included cutting ties with Snapple s eccentric spokespeople and transitioning the brand from fashion to mainstream and lifestyle. Also, Snapple s distributors should only supply cold channels (with Snapple and Gatorade) whereas Quaker would integrate Snapple in its distribution to warm channels. 2. Root causes for Quaker s failure with Snapple Quaker s strategy eroded Snapple s positioning and appeal for consumers, alienated channel partners, and left them with a large product portfolio that is difficult to ... • 5. Economic Thought Is The Most Confusing Chapter By Modern... One of the most complicated concepts throughout the history of economic thought is the idea of the measure of value. Therefore, it is no surprise Adam Smith s An Inquiry into the Nature and Causes of the Wealth of Nations Chapter five, entitled Of the real and nominal Price of Commodities, or of their Price in Labour, and their Price in Money , is considered the most confusing chapter by modern economist. Smith attempts to explain the measure of value and the mechanisms, by which that value fluctuates. Value, as defined by Smith, has two different meanings, and sometimes, expresses the utility of some particular object, and sometimes the power of purchasing other goods which the possession of that object conveys. He further clarifies these values as value in use and value in exchange, defined as the value an individual receives from the use of a good and the value an individual would pay for or would be willing to sell a good for, respectively. The chapter consist of three main goals, Smith endeavored to show what is the real measure of this exchangeable value, what are the real parts of which this real price is composed, and what are the different circumstances which sometimes raise some or all of these different parts of price above, and sometimes sink them below their natural or ordinary rate. Showing the real measure of an exchangeable value quickly proves difficult. Smith is content to conclude, Labour, therefore, is the real measure of the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. Education Is The Key To A Better, Developed And Civilized... Education has been told to us as the key to a better, developed and civilized society. With proper education, there can be no limits to an individual s achievements in life; but on the other hand, lack of access to education is a major building block to a primitive, backward and uncivilized society. A bad education system designed not for learning but only to keep children who can not afford private education in schools is a recipe for oppression as it widens the gap between socioeconomic status, gender and age. It trains people to be a part of a capitalistic and oppressive society by reinforcing classism, racism and sexism (Lipsitz, Lozenski, Ford, 2014). A better society is defined by its quality of education and health standards. It has been notice that where there the education system is oppressive or oppressed, the health sector follows suit. One cannot go through an oppressive education system and expect the opposite when it comes to health care provisions. Therefore the system of education has a direct impact on the health care system of a society, the rich who benefit from the system of education also benefit from health care system. It comes into play when I look at the system of education that makes the rich white majority acquire better education services at the expense of their black counterparts or people with color in the society (Giroux, 2017). A system that chooses controlled base on color and social standing in the society has contributed to various social ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 7. High Stakes Testing And The Turn Is Not Well Received The educational forum has had many trend changes over years. The current trend in education is mainly focused on accountability through assessment, such as standardized tests. There are many defining factors and elements that are articulated in the realm of standardized testing. Some of these factors are academic shift from learning to accountability in learning, test data, the problems that plague education and schools related to standardized tests, and the possible solutions for them. Education has gone from standardized testing to high stakes testing and the turn is not well received. A standardized test is defined by, The Glossary of Education Reform , as any form of test that (1) requires all test takers to answer the same ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This literature will focus on focusing on large scale, high stakes testing. They can include multiple choice questions, true false questions, short answer questions, essay questions, or a mix of question types. The article titled, Standardized Tests states, that the most common forms of standardized tests are: achievement tests, aptitude tests, college admission tests, international comparison tests, and psychological tests. Standardized tests have been around for hundreds of years. The test originated in the 1800 s. The test was created by Horace Mann. The test was to decide how students were mastering their current level of work and whether they should proceed to the next level. There were no negative consequences associated with the tests or scores. After the publication of the Coleman Report (Coleman et al., 1966), which took an in depth look into the education system and analyzed how the education system affected student achievement, the use of standardized achievement tests for accountability became the trend. It was all about everyone involved in the education of a body of students should be held accountable for the learning and teaching of those students. The teachers and others involved had to answer to the political bodies that were providing funding for the education system. In 2001 the No Child Left Behind Act was passed under the administration of President Bush. The act is based on improving instructional outcomes for students with disabilities. The ... • 8. Analysis Of Ayn Rand s Anthem Ayn Rand, a Russian American novelist, philosopher, and playwright wrote the novella Anthem in 1937. During the time Rand was writing this novella, the ruthless dictator Joseph Stalin mercilessly ruled over Russia. Also during this time, the beginnings of World War II took place. These events more than likely inspired the plot for Anthem, a dystopian fiction. Rand s projection of the totalitarianism of Anthem s society is astounding, the book itself has feeling and meaning in correlation to today s world. Anthem depicts a collectivism dictatorship world of the future as in this world there is no I , these people are forced to follow a strict set of rules, and they are born in bulk, learning and knowing only what their higher powers want them to learn and know. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The characters of the story refer to themselves as we or us forcing them into a bond of conventionality. In the novella, Rand expresses this fact by using we several times in the first chapter alone, stating sentences such as We are alone here under the earth...We are twenty one years old. We are six feet tall... We were born with a curse . In addition, Rand projects the collectivism of this society by allowing the reader to look into the minds of the main character Prometheus (formerly known as Equality 7 2521). Rand does this by writing this character in a way that portrays him as yearning to be an individual. This is proven throughout the novella as Prometheus struggles to find himself and his ego. Through this evidence, it is clear that Anthem shows a clear perspective on a collectivist dictatorship world of the future by expressing that in said world, there is no ... • 9. Working Poor Essay The Struggle of the Working Poor Revised Essay Sociology 113 Yvonne Barney October 19, 2012 The Struggle of the Working Poor Society often describes the impoverished with one word, lazy. Society has taught us that if a person wants to be financially successful, it is a simple process of education and hard work that will equate to a successful income. This is the American dream. If the impoverished simply would get a job instead of being lazy, they would not need to rely on programs like welfare. The impoverished would succeed if they only would apply themselves. However, in an attempt to present another point of view, The Working Poor Invisible in America by David K. Shipler (2004) explored multiple variables this group struggles ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Chapter 9, Dreams, begins with the ambitious professional aspirations of sixth and eighth grade children from poor families in Washington, DC. Shipler contrasts these aspirations with the enormous faced problems beyond their control. Chapter 10, Work Works, is dedicated to the positive impact that job training and working has had on some poor individuals and families. Job training programs that teach soft skills as well as hard skills and are successful in instilling confidence and self esteem are appreciated by employers. Chapter 11, Skill and Will, emphasizes that American society must understand what it can do using the skills and resources it has to combat poverty. The approach to remedying poverty, Shipler argues, must be holistic, tackling all problems associated with it at once. The United States is often described as a place where anyone can pick themselves up by their bootstraps and realize the American dream of a comfortable lifestyle. But, for over 30 million Americans, this dream is no longer possible. Though we live in the richest and most powerful country in the world, there are many individuals who are living under or at the poverty level. While the United States has enjoyed unprecedented affluence, low wage employees have been testing the American doctrine that hard work cures poverty (Shipler, 2004). General Washington was able to leverage available human and counter intelligence to gain the upper hand and defeat the Hessian force garrisoned in the town. Had Washington not acted on the intelligence available at the time, it is possible that the Colonial cause would not have lasted though that winter. Rall ignored intelligence that the Colonials were planning an attack, he did not believe that the Colonials had sufficient men to mount an attack on his location. Because of his over confidence, Rall did not see it necessary to fortify his position. The Plan of Attack Following a string of defeats against the British, Washington knew decisive action must take place in order to maintain morale within his force. On 22 December, Washington gathered with his war council to discuss their options to strike a victory against their opposing force. They voted to conduct a surprise attack against the troops garrisoned in Trenton, New Jersey. The plan called for three forces to conduct different missions to bring the desired result of Colonial victory. The first unit, commanded by Washington, would cross the Delaware River, north of Trenton, on Christmas night. Of the additional two forces, one would cross to block the Hessian withdrawal while the other would conduct a diversion attack. The plan relied on surprise to be effective against the Hessians garrisoned in Trenton to maximize available combat power. Analysis Of The Wold s Wife By Carol Ann Duffy A feminist interpretation of any piece of literature would explore ...the belief that women are oppressed or disadvantaged by comparison with men, and that their oppression is... illegitimate or unjustified. In The Wolds Wife Carol Ann Duffy explores the idea that women are subject to oppression in everyday life and as a result of this lose their sense of identity, however within three of the poems in this collection Little Red Cap, Medusa and Pygmalion s Bride Duffy rejects convention by positioning the female as the protagonist within her poems therefore rejecting societal expectations. The women in these poems do not always abide by the stereotypical behaviours of a woman and the heteronormativity which is enforced through not only the media but through fairy tales where young children are taught that as a girl they need to be saved Duffy renounces this idea through demonstrating in her poems that this should not be accepted as the way of doing things therefore criticising patriarchy. Heteronormativity being ...the belief that people fall into distinct and complementary genders (man and woman) with natural roles in life Duffy instead subverts this idea of conventional gender stereotypes within her revised tales of well known stories which assert the belief that women understand that men and women are different and that those very differences provide the key to her success as a person and fulfilment as a woman . Abraham Lincoln proposed a lenient plan. After he was assassinated, Andrew Johnson proposed a very similar plan. The Radical Republicans were infuriated by Johnson s Plan because it failed to effectively help former slaves. They wanted a plan stricter on the punishment of the Southerners, and one that addressed the land, voting, and protection under the law of slaves. This is why when Johnson pardoned all Southerners the Radicals refused to admit the Southern representatives back into Congress. The Radical Republicans, and the rest of Congress, were the ones who passed most of the bills for Reconstruction, because of their ability to override the president with their majority. They expanded the Freedmen s Bureau, which did show some progress in the helping of former slaves and poor white men. The Freedmen s Bureau set up hospitals, schools, and also gave out supplies. During mid June through October a second monsoon indicates the Wet Season a.k.a. the southwest monsoon. The timing of these winds is critical; too little or too late rainfall results in an unsuccessful harvest, yet too much or an extended period of rainfall causes flooding along the country side. Temperatures also play a significant role in how Indian s settled the land in anchient times. The ideal area the Deccan plateau had mild temperatures in the summer opposed to the blistering heat of the Western Ghats and valleys which could climb up to one hundred twenty degrees farenheit. The emissions exhausted into the surroundings pollute the atmosphere and causes following problems. Global warming Acid rain Smog Odors Respiratory and other health hazards. The major causes of these emissions are non stoichiometric combustion, dissociation of nitrogen, and impurities in the fuel and air. The emissions of concern are unburnt hydro carbons (HC), oxides of carbon (COX), oxides of nitrogen (NOX), oxides of sulphur (SOX) and solid carbon particulates. It is the dream of engineers and scientists to develop engines and fuels such that very few quantity of harmful emissions are generated, and these could be let into the surroundings without a major impact on the environment. • 32. Frederick Douglass Speech Frederick Douglass was a powerful voice for African Americans. he was born a slavery yet was taught to read and write. Frederick later escaped to New York and began touring around the country. he was an abolitionist, advocate for equal rights and was a part of the anti slavery society. He spoke on July 5, 1852, in Rochester, New York. His speech was called The Meaning of July Fourth for the Negro . The purpose of his speech was to give his opinions on the well known holiday, the fourth of July. Reading the speech made me feel dumbfounded, amused and frustrated The Fourth of July is America s independence day from Britain. However, slaves remained in the same position until after the civil war. This is the reason why Douglass says and believes This Fourth July is yours, not mine. You may rejoice, I must mourn. To drag a man in fetters into the grand illuminated temple of liberty, and call upon him to join you in joyous anthems, were inhuman mockery and sacrilegious irony. I m left both speechless and amused on how true this statement is. Americans expected everyone to celebrate their day with them. While remaining hypocrites having once slaves and now segregation within their free and fair nation. No one should expect respect or happiness from people Americana has hurt. Frederick states Do you mean, citizens, to mock me, by asking me to speak to day? If so, there is a parallel to your conduct. And let me warn you that it is dangerous to copy the example of a nation ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 33. Analyzing The Song Good Riddance By Billie Joe Armstrong Good Riddance by Green Day is my theme for my eighth grade year. This song was written by Billie Joe Armstrong for the album Nimrod in 1997. In the album recording of the song Billie messes up the opening chord progression twice before saying a quiet explicative and playing the song correctly. The first couple weeks were pretty rough for me and I often messed up or did things that I later regretted. This song is often played at graduations and weddings, but this was not the intention of Billie Joe when he wrote the piece. Billie wrote it about a breakup and his lyrics and style of the song is meant to be sarcastic and bitter. Unfortunately most people don t know this and thus it s like the song doesn t know whether it should be sarcastic or melancholy. During this year I never knew where I belong. I am ... Everytime I feel like I finally am in control something happens that throws everything off again. Good Riddance is different from the rest of the album in its sound. It has a soft calming acoustic guitar with even a violin solo in the middle of the track contrasting highly with the distorted electric guitar and powerful drumming in the album s other tracks. For a punk rock album this song is way too poppy to be tolerated. It s existence itself is ironic as the bandmates themselves have said that the song is so not punk that it is punk to include it in Nimrod. During this year I felt like this track in the album. I felt like I was the only one around who was like me, everyone else seemed different and distant. Like how Good ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Kendall and Kylie Jenner further show the suppression of individual freedom and humanity, by the women in Indra changing how they look through technological devices. It is evident that beauty is critical in Indra once Livia says, Marius is a mere five foot two, a burden for which most Indrithian women would be utterly devastated. She has yet to have the sparkle put back in, which is a very painful procedure (Jenner 31). The quotation above, explains how critical beauty enhancements are in the society of Indra. It proves that as the technology in the industry of plastic surgery develops, it becomes more demanding within the city of Indra. Livia is talking about her godmother, Governess. Livia s godmother is consumed with beauty and the way she looks. She constantly revisits rejuvenation island, no one can truly tell who she really is due to all the alterations she has undergone. The passage provided is significant to the novel because it shows that the society is obsessed with all forms of technology that become available in Indra. Societal beauty standards are something that is prominent within the current generation of youth. All around the world people try to change themselves and conceal who they are, to gain a feeling of superiority. The intention of this paper is to examine the significant and enduring impact Louis Pasteur had on public health and wonderful advances in medicines and invention of vaccines. Louis Pasteur was a truly talented person who made many various discoveries in different areas of science. In 1843, Louis enrolled at the Ecole Normale Supe´rieure in Paris, where he focused in the origins of life. Louis Pasteur Education Louis received his bachelor s degree in letters in August of 1840. Louis received his doctoral degree in 1847 with a thesis on crystallography. Pasteur studied how certain crystals affect light and at the age of 26, he started working on his doctoral thesis on crystallography, the study of forms and structures of crystals. Louis began working with two acids commonly found in the sediments of fermenting wine. Tartaric acid and paratartaric acid were found a few years earlier to have the same chemical composition, but there was something about these two acids that were different and Louis sought to find the answer. He found that in solution the two rotated polarized light differently, while tartaric acid rotated polarized light to the right, paratartaric acid did not rotate the light at all. He then began to study the crystals of each acid under his microscope and noticed that some of the crystals in paratartaric acid were slightly different from that of tartaric acid. Using a dissecting needle and his microscope, he separated the different crystals into two piles, and upon viewing each crystal in the microscope, he noticed that the crystals appeared to be mirror images of themselves (Berche, 2012). • 38. Dystopian Similarities Between 1984 And Hunger Games Rishabh Engineer Mrs. Schroder English IV Honors 26 April 2018 The Comparison of Dystopian Aspects within 1984 and Hunger Games George Orwell s novel 1984 created a bleak future where there was little to no hope. Such a society can be classified as dystopia, a utopia with dark aspects. Dystopian works are a subgenre of literature that highlights major ethical and humane issues by creating a fictionalized setting where such issues can be seen. Dystopian literature has recently been popularized through many modern authors such as Suzanne Collins and Veronica Roth; however, earlier examples, such as 1984, can be seen as far back as mid 20th century. Dystopian literature can be classified relatively easily due to its unique themes and characters. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This distinct feature allows for the development of a story line that orbits around the protagonists life. From the very start of 1984 you can notice this style, for instance when Winston explains his surroundings and daily life. A kilometre away the Ministry of Truth, his place of work, towered vast and white above the grimy landscape. This, he thought with a sort of vague distaste... (pg. 5). First person narration does not only provide a realistic depiction of the protagonists life, but it allows for the ideological revelations the protagonist realizes throughout the novel. Both Katniss and Winston were first compliant with the governing system, however, through reflection, they realized the burdens and constraints the government put upon them. From those realizations, dystopian protagonists such as Katniss or Winston start countering the oppression through rebellion. Examples of such rebellion can be seen through entire revolutions. From Katniss Mockingbird movement in book two and three, to simple illegal acts, such as Winston s purchase of a diary. The willingness to rebel while knowing the consequences not only displays the displeasure of the protagonists, but exemplifies the magnitude of their displeasure. Winston and Katniss both understood the consequences of their actions, yet they did it anyways. For Winston, in book two, he knew that his affair with Julia might get them both killed. While others may not have the ability to prove the existence of God, through another s experiences, they also cannot disprove this existence. A person s personal experiences are something that no other person can determine, nor argue. My experiences are my interpretations for the occurrences within my life, therefore, another person cannot determine what my true experiences are, or how they make me feel or believe. While a person may not have the ability to argue the experiences of another person, one can certainly argue the differences in these reported experiences. Accounts from different people, who cite various experiences, creates an argument against the existence of God, based on religious experiences. Utilizing these inconsistencies, people attempt to refute the existence of God by outlining these inconsistencies with various reports of the people claiming to have received these experiences (Holt, 2008). Persons who are skeptical of the religious experiences to support God will look to find inconsistencies within the stories of those reporting these experiences. However, to the believer, variances are a way of action for God. None of the miracles performed within the Bible were performed in the same manner. While the overall miracle may have been the same, the manner in which it was performed may vary. As an example, Jesus healed two blind men in vastly differing ways.
