Essay On Durban Botanic Gardens
INTRODUCTION The Durban Botanic Gardens plays a very vital and significant role in our city,
empowering social economics and horticulture in our great city. Sadly, with the growth of technology
the youth appear to have neglected the respect we once had in the past. This writing will aim to inform
the youth of the interesting experience that I had at the gardens with the hopes of convincing them to
participate and further understand the environment we live in. Thus making it it easier to find remedy
solutions for the sinking ship earth slowly sinking into land degradation and global warming.
HISTORY The Durban Botanic Gardens is one of the oldest surviving botanic garden in Africa and is
Durban s oldest public institutions. The garden was established in 1849 back when the city was not
well developed. The original location of the DGB was the south bank of the Umgeni River and was
later moved to the lower slopes of Berea forest because of the river s hippo and crocodile populations
(eThekwini Municipality 2014:4). For over 150 years the gardens have dedicated itself to education of

American history from 1815 to 1840 Essay
Throughout American history, politics changed with the times, forming and growing as new situations
and environments took place. However, the most drastic differences occurred between 1815 and 1840.
During this time, the North and South develop different economic systems, which created political
differences between the regions. Between 1815 and 1840, the number of eligible voters drastically
increased as politicians utilized a wider variety of campaigning methods in order to appeal to as many
voters as possible, all essentially caused by economic growth. Politics grow to include universal white
male suffrage, a strong national government, and nationalism versus sectionalism. Economic Growth

Political figures began appealing for popular support, using tactics like public rallies, picnics,
slanderous charges, and newspapers to capture attention. Document I is a campaign almanac that
promotes the 1840 candidacy of Harrison and Tyler. During this time period, it was common for
political candidates to use almanacs, tracts, buttons, effigies, and rallies to publicize and romanticize
their records. Political parties themselves began to change as people like Martin Van Buren tried to go
back to old political parties (Document C). He thought that the best political combination would unite
southern planters and plain Republicans of the North. Van Buren was part of a group of shrewd
politicians called the Albany Regency With the help of their newspaper, the Albany Argus, they
controlled party nominating conventions and political patronage (spoils system) while in office. The
Albany Argus is a great example of how newspapers came to be a big part of politics. Seen in Doc G,
the number of different newspapers in the United States increased to 1,200, with the number more
than tripling between 1810 and 1835. Newspapers were widely distributed, and after innovations made
newspapers affordable were widely used as a campaign tactic.
There were many causes of the incredible political changes during 1815 1840 s, but the main cause
was economic growth. The War of 1812 caused men like Henry Clay and John Calhoun to find

Wechsler Intelligence Scale For Children
Wechsler Intelligence Scale for Children (WISC IV; Wechsler, 1949). This seminal intelligence scale
assesses a child s general intellectual ability across four domains, producing four corresponding index
scores: (1) the Verbal Comprehension Index (VCI), (2) the Visual Spatial Index (VSI), (3) the Working
Memory Index (WMI), and finally (4) the Processing Speed Index (PSI). The VCI measures verbal
concept formation, specifically assessing children s ability to listen to a question, draw upon learned
information from both formal and informal education, reason through an answer, and express their
thoughts aloud. An example item from this index is similarities, vocabulary, and comprehension. Next,
the VSI measures non verbal and fluid reasoning and assesses children s ability to examine a problem,
draw upon visual motor and visual spatial skills, organize their thoughts, create solutions, and then test
them. An example item from this index is solving a 3D puzzle. The WMI measures working memory
and assesses children s ability to memorize new information, hold it in short term memory,
concentrate, and manipulate that information to produce some result or reasoning processes; an
example item would be letter number sequencing. This measure is particularly important for higher
order thinking, learning, and achievement. Finally, the PSI measures the speed of information
processing and assesses children s abilities to focus attention and quickly scan, discriminate between,

Compare And Contrast Three Republican Presidents In The 1920s
Throughout the 1920 s and after World War II., America faced many problems economically and
socially. The Republican Party had been always one of the largest parties in United States; therefore,
Republican presidents have maintained a big role in the administration of United States either before
and World War I or after World War II. The Republican presidents in the 1920 s were Warren G.
Harding, Calvin Coolidge, and Herbert Hoover. Whereas the 3 Republican presidents elected after
World War 2 were Dwight D. Eisenhower, Richard Nixon, and Ronald Reagan. In both periods, these
Republican presidents have similarities and differences in domestic and foreign policies. In addition,
during and between these periods some events such as Great Depression, ... Show more content on

During Harding s term, a couple of people on his administration were accused and arrested for bribery
and corruption. The most well known scandal was the Teapot Dome scandal were the Secretary of the
Interior was arrested for accepting bribes to release government land to oil companies for their own
personal reasons. Harding did good for America and its people, but because of the scandals he was not
directly involved in, his good was no longer noticed. Harding did not last for long in his terms because
he died due to illness, but there were speculations that he was murdered by his wife or that he killed
himself. The next Republican president that caught the nation s eye was Calvin Coolidge. Calvin
really got noticed when he used the National Guard to break up a strike in Boston. Coolidge reduced
the federal debt, lowered income tax rates (mostly for the wealthy) with 3 Revenue Acts and began
construction of a national highway system that was very useful for trading and such. The last
Republican president of the 1920s was Herbert Hoover. Herbert Hoover was with what he liked to call
associationalism. This meant seeing which association nationwide was first in commerce and industry.
He enjoyed the association of business and government together. Hoover was president at the time of
the Stock Market Crash in 1929. Hoover continued to say that the worst was over and that the
economy was strong enough to hop up until the market was back on track, but he was completely
wrong about this because a worldwide depression took place. The depression caused a huge impact on
the American people. Families were unable to pay rent, lived off of potatoes, crackers, some even
searched through garbage cans. Marriage was delayed, reproduction rate also decreased. The most
impacted class was the farmers and the agricultural sector. Crop prices hit rock bottom and due to
farmers trying to compensate for

The Humanity Of Frankenstein In Mary Shelley s Frankenstein
For as long as man has encompassed this world, the divisive enigma of humanity has prevailed.
Seeping its way into each generation, while sparking heated conversations, it has become evident that
there is much we do not know about what truly makes us human. Regardless of our genetic
composition, philosophers often ponder the deeper meaning of humanity. We know that, biologically,
recreating the genetic makeup of a human does not yield humanity, so what is the missing aspect?
Humans have the ability to contemplate their own existence in this world. Awareness of existence.
This driving force enables us to analyze situations while placing ourselves within them. Our
involuntary ability to understand the impact of our actions and the affect they have on others causes us
to be inherently human. Our actions evoke strong emotions within us that allow us to learn through
our experiences. We retain the resonated feelings of certain occurrences and apply them to others in
order to deduce outcomes. Often this facet of mankind is taken for granted, yet we are reminded,
through both literature and hypothetical scenarios, of its importance. Frankenstein, by Mary Shelley,
constitutes as one of these profound reminders. Shelley develops a theoretical story in which the
humanity of Frankenstein s monster is questioned. Despite having the accurate organs and framework
of a human, Shelley causes the reader to seek the missing aspect that is preventing the monster from
being human. Likewise,

Social Control In Metropolis
A great deal of fictional films and literature deal with the concept of society. Writers have played
around with the idea of societies that are different from the world we know. While some portray this in
optimistic ways and others darker, what these works have in common is the idea of social control
wherein people are forced to conform to means that are believed to benefit their society. Fritz Lang s
1927 silent film, Metropolis is an early example of this. The beginning shows machine gears and
workers marching towards a factory. This place is known as the Workers City, described to be far
below Metropolis, the city for the upper class founded by Joh Fredersen (Alfred Abel). The lives of
the workers and the rich are very different, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
First of all, the set design was intricate and very detailed, especially in the factories where there were
gears and machines operating everywhere. Every inch brought the setting to life. There was a clear
distinction when switching from Metropolis to the Workers City that was seen in the scene s setting.
Moreover, the settings were given more depth by the frames and angles in which they were shot.
Many scenes would show the main subject or image centered in the frame, and this was given
emphasis with the use of dark shadows in contrary to a bright subject. Shadows indeed played a big
part in creating visuals. The technique of chiaroscuro, the contrast between light and dark comes to
mind, like in scenes that were more somber and serious (e.g. carrying the dead bodies from the
factory, Maria making prophecies about peace). In connection with the concept of angles, Fritz Lang
also had a commendable use of symmetry, which was visually appealing especially with intricately
designed sets. Lang also used lines in his shots, adding style and flair to dramatic

My Observation At Oakwood Methodist Preschool
I conducted my observation at Oakwood Methodist Preschool on May 9, 2016 at 9:30 in the morning
and 3:00 in the afternoon. The child I observed was a 16 month old female that I did have previously
relations too. I use to work at Oakwood Methodist as an Extended Care Teacher. I use to care for Baby
M in the infant room. During the observation there were two teachers, and 7 infants. The room that the
observation took place in had many toys such as: balls, bouncers, walkers, rattles, and soft plush
books. There was also a play mat where all the toys were, and two rocking chairs in the room. During
this observation I focused on 6 different developmental domains. In my paper I am going to discuss
perception, motor skills, cognitive ability, communication/language, social skills, and emotions.
Perception is how the infant incorporates his/her 5 senses into what they are exploring, and reacting
too. During my observation Baby M reacted to sights, sounds, and touching. According to the book
haptic perception is perception of the properties of an object using touch (Fogel, 2011. PG 152). Baby
M placed the balls and teethers directly in her mouth to get a better idea or perception of what the toy
was. Although she is at the age where she knew what each toy was she still explored it using her
mouth. Baby M also showed signs of auditory development by listening to what the caregiver was
saying to her and responding with positive emotions when told to do something.
The second domain

The Effects Of Environmental Diverty And Environmental...
Explaining how global poverty and environmental decay are twin problems would be a lot less
difficult to do if many other factors were not included in this issue. What mainly affects these
problems is the fact that people in this day in age have a massive urge to want more in every aspect of
life more money, more technology, more materialistic items what is not being taken into serious
consideration is the fact that our wants outweigh our needs, and our Earth is the only thing that can not
continue to grow with the growth of our wants. In such a fast developing country like our own, we fail
to forget how our materialistic needs and the drive to always stay on top ultimately effects our
physical Earth and the rest of the underdeveloped countries in the world. The primary concern is that a
world of over six billion people striving materialistic satisfaction is drawing ever more heavily from
finite supplies of natural resources to fuel an economic growth model destined to lead to an ecological
disaster and global poverty without precedence (Harder and Harder 1). As Harder and Harder explain,
we must find an economic way of life that is economically stable. There are many different
perspectives that view economic growth in different aspects. Advocates of economic growth have a
very optimistic viewpoint about the future of economic growth. Their operational logic reflects their
sense of duty to develop latent resources into their actualized state for the benefit of a global

Analysis Of A Prayer For Owen Meany
In A Prayer for Owen Meany by John Irving, John Wheelwright is the narrator of a memoir to Owen
Meany in which John relives his childhood with Owen Meany, and shows how his friendship with
Owen shaped who he was then and who he is now. John is my favorite character in the book mostly
because it s easy to feel bad for him. He experiences a ton of trauma in his childhood and still feels the
effects from it as an adult. He grows up not knowing who his father was, then he loses his mother and
his best friend. As a result, he is the character that attracts the most sympathy in the story. John
Wheelwright lives in Toronto, Canada and works as a school teacher. John was born into the

The first conflict John faces is the loss of his mother. Tabby s death both angers and upsets John. In
any case, losing your mother is a horrible. It was especially unfortunate for John because he has no
idea who his true father is. He is irritated that she never even got around to telling him who his real
father is. It even makes him more resentful when he finds out she lived sort of a second life as The
Lady in Red . The most tragic of John s experiences is the sacrificial death of Owen Meany. John is
absolutely traumatized by the death of Owen. Owen s death is the reason John lives in Canada, hates
America, and is stuck in the past. John still hasn t even come close to getting over Owen s death, and
he never will. John even ends his memoir with O God please give him back I shall keep asking You!

never felt sexual desire. Katherine s husband describes him as a non practicing homosexual but he

The Bible By The Poisonwood Bible
Midterm
Movies and books about missionaries haven t portrayed missionaries in a positive light. Fiction writers
and movie producers have led people on to believe, that missionaries are self serving and as having
specific intentions. One of the prime examples of misrepresenting a missionary; is the book called The
Poisonwood Bible. I had to read The Poisonwood Bible in an English class.
The Poisonwood Bible is the story of a missionary named Nathan Price and his family. Nathan was
Reverend and he was mean to his wife and children. Nathan and his family lived in the Congo. He was
disrespectful to his wife and his children were terrified of him. I remember reading the book thinking,
how does he represent God?
Missionaries are sent out to cross cultural barriers and spread the gospel. Missionaries are not sent too
foreign countries to destroy or to break the people down. Missionaries have faced scrutiny, because of
the negative of missionaries in movies and in books. There some positive movies made about
missionaries.
Jesus was the perfect missionary. Jesus went to different places and taught the word of God. Jesus
drew people unto him. Jesus told his disciples, that if they follow him, he would make them fishermen
of men. Jesus taught anywhere. Jesus delivered the word so profoundly.
Jesus was from the lineage of Abraham. God made a covenant with Abraham to make him the father
of many nations. According to Matthew Jesus was the Messiah for all people. When Jesus became

The Stanford Prison Experiment At Stanford University
I. Introduction:
Imagine that the year is 1971, and you are a male college student at Stanford University in California.
Like most college kids, you are strapped for cash, so you begin to seek a part time job. You see an ad
for a psychology study that pays $15 per day posted in the local newspaper, and decide to submit an
application. Little do you know at the time, that the study you are applying for will become known
worldwide and create such an impact that it remains relevant over 44 years later. This infamous study
is known today as the Stanford Prison Experiment. The experiment was led by psychology professor
Dr. Philip Zimbardo along with his team of researchers in the basement of the psychology building at
Stanford University. Today, I am going to speak about why the experiment was conducted, what
occurred during the experiment, and the ethical implications that resulted because of this notorious
study.
II. Why the Experiment Was Conducted:
I will begin by explaining why the Stanford Prison Experiment was conducted. Dr. Philip Zimbardo
and his research team sought to examine the effect that social institutions and certain situations have
on an individual s behavior. According to the American Psychological Association, a situation
centered approach to studying human behavior, focuses on factors external to the person (American
Psychological Association). More specifically, Zimbardo wanted to study how quickly an individual
would conform to the role of prisoner or

However, many of our nation s current programs do not provide these two characteristics. The best
sexual education program is comprehensive sex education due to the knowledge presented. This raises
the question: What is comprehensive sex education and why is it the best? According to the Planned
Parenthood article Implementing Sex Education , comprehensive sex education provides information
on many topics. The curriculum includes knowledge on body image, contraception, safer sex, sexual
behaviors, relationships, sexual health, and sexual orientation. This program covers the taboo topics
that other curriculums do not. Moreover, comprehensive sex education teaches all ages how to care for
mature relationships. Phi Delta Kappan s journal, on the importance of factual comprehensive sex
education, declares ...sexual education would be far more meaningful and productive if it focused on
developing, maintaining, and ending romantic and sexual relationships with integrity and care
(Peterson, Weinstein, and Weissbourd). Teaching teenagers to have mature relationships can fix many
future problems. For instance, it could lower rates of divorce, mental health diseases, and bullying.
Planned Parenthood s article goes on to tell that comprehensive sex education programs are
scientifically correct and ethical. They are designed to be taught from kindergarten to 12th grade. The
goal of this program is to teach adolescents about how to communicate with one another. Although
comprehensive sex education mentions that abstinence is the safest way to avoid unintended
pregnancies and sexually transmitted infections (STIs), it does not stress abstinence in its curriculum,
nor does the program teach that sex before marriage is evil and

organization, and support for a person to see something through to the end. 2. I am that person; those
are my qualities. 3. I believe in persevering until my dreams become reality. 4. Always be oneself no

is well portrayed in the song Follow your arrow . The lyrics that I absolutely relate too are Follow
your arrow wherever it goes , because people have to follow their dreams. 1. Many times living in a
microscopic town, people will know all of someone s business and try to tell that person how far they
will or will not make it. 2. Some will say that a person will never make it out of the town and that they
will be cemented here forever. 3. This is not true, people should follow their dreams and set goals,
with enough determination and effort anything is possible. 4. By following the arrow life has given,
always remember to take risks and take advantage of every opportunity that may come a person s way.

Claviceps Prpure The Cause Of Hysteria In The Salem Witch...
In 1692, a great evil was cast upon Salem, Massachusetts. Twenty men and women were hanged under
the accusation of performing witchcraft, and in turn created a mass hysteria within the citizens of
Salem. Undoubtedly, the cause of these accusations and hysteria was ergotism, a disease caused by
infected rye grain. The conditions of the region contributed to much of the growth of ergot. Ergotism
had many distinct symptoms, which matched much of the testimony and accounts of those involved in
the Witch Trials. All of these circumstances definitively caused the terror and panic found in the town
of Salem in 1692. Ergot, more specifically known as Claviceps purpurea (The Witches Curse), is a

successful. Seed time for the rye was April and the harvesting took place in August (Linnda Caporael).
The weather and climate also provided for hearty rye crops to be grown. The weather in 1691, the year

Differences In American Culture
Throughout the different cultures around the world, there are many traditions that have been in place
for many years. These traditions have been passed down from generation to generation and are looked
at as being normal in these cultures. To the United States, and other parts of the world, some of these
traditions are looked at as being crazy, bizarre, and even strange. There are many different cultures and
unique traditions associated with them, but these are 5 interesting traditions found around the world.
Philippians
In America, children are raised to respect their elders from an early age and this is generally the same
around the world. In the Philippians however, they practice the tradition of Pagmamano. Pagmamano
is a gesture that symbolizes respect for one s elders. It is akin to bowing, with the addition of taking an
elder s hand and pressing it to one s forehead. Americans usually understand to show their elders
respect, but the tradition of Pagmamano shows an actual sign of respect to the elder. This is a very
explicit sign of respect and would show why the Philippian culture treats their elders the way they do.

In America, children are told by their parents that there is a tooth fairy that will bring money if the
child puts their tooth they lost under their pillow. Throughout different cultures around the world, the
same idea is there, but usually with a different name for the tooth fairy . Some other parts of the world
though, do not practice this tradition at all. In Greece and Mauritania, a child does not simply leave his
tooth underneath his pillow. Instead, children throw it as hard and as high as they can toward the roof
of their home. In Greece, this provides good luck and strong teeth. Greece has the tradition of
throwing the tooth to make the child stronger in the future, instead of a monetary

What Was The Role Of Confederation In Canada
Canada was rushed into Confederation way too soon and has had problems due to this. Although
through these past hundred fifty years, Canada has survived and is still going strong. Confederation
started on July 1st, 1867 when three British Colonies came together to become four provinces.
Although Canada went through Confederation, it is not a confederate association; it is a federal state
which is not the supposed meaning of Confederation. Canada has evolved majorly since
Confederation back in 1867.
Before confederation, British North America was made up of many colonies controlled by Britain.
These colonies were Canada, New Brunswick, Nova Scotia, Prince Edward Island, Newfoundland,
Vancouver Island and British Columbia. British North America ... Show more content on

New France was an established colony created by France along the St. Lawrence River. It was founded
in 1534 by Jacques Cartier. In New France s one hundred and fifty years as a french colony of British
North America, no more than 10,000 people immigrated there. New France faced many difficulties,
some being with the Aboriginals and later with the British. In 1663 New France became a legitimate
province of France.
The idea of confederation had been around and mentioned for years. In September 1864, they
discussed the idea of confederation at a conference in Charlottetown. The conference brought together
the people of Prince Edward Island, New Brunswick and Nova Scotia to discuss the union of their
three provinces. The Conference was organized by these maritime provinces to try to help persuade
the idea of confederation. On September 8th, 1864, to conclude his speech Honourable Thomas H.
Haviland spoke: I believe, from all that I can learn that the Provinces will, ere long, be one great
country or nation, from the Pacific to the Atlantic. Never before was there such an important meeting
as this held in the history of British America; and it may yet be said that here, in little Prince Edward

Restorative Justice And Recidivism
Restorative Justice and Recidivism
Most of my life I ve always had strong interests in studying a number of topics in justice, which is
why I am pursuing to get a degree in criminal justice and psychology. I find it compelling to study and
understand criminals minds and behaviors. My goal in the future is to eventually help troubled
individuals. I hope one day I will make a difference in reducing crime and make a difference in
helping individuals overcome criminality. Because of that reason, I think its worthwhile that I chose a
topic of my interest about restorative justice, and recidivism for juvenile offenders. Restorative justice
is a traditional method to help juvenile offenders or adults rehabilitate over time. Looking from my

In depth, With the research I ve done, I realized that there needs to be more future studies on the rates
of recidivism in Restorative Justice to other forms of rehabilitation because, there isn t enough proper
evidence to prove recidivsim is reduced. The studies I observed, had a specific question about juvenile
offenders of diversion were most likely to be referred to Restorative Justice programs: Studies stated
aim of evaluating diversion programs which are defined broadly but fairly similarly in both studies as
any program that allows juveniles to avoid imprisonment. (Wong, Boucahrd, Gravel,
Morcelli,Bouchard 1310 1329) Overall, Restorative Justice programs possibly could reduce the
percentages of recidivism by diversionary approaches, there is small evidence of reduction for
offenders: RJ suggest that RJ may lead to increased victim satisfaction, decreased costs, and long term
success in recidivism. (Rodriguez, 355)

Essay On The Differences Between Bismarck And Wilhelm
Overall, while the foreign policies of Bismarck and Kaiser Wilhelm were not very similar, they did
both maintain the Dual and Triple Alliances, and Germany was at the center of European diplomacy
during both era s, however it was in different ways. Therefore, while both policies did not share many
similarities, they did have their key differences. For instance, during the rule of Otto Von Bismarck,
Germany had a strong and well developed foreign policy. This is because through the use of foreign
policy, Otto Von Bismarck aimed to weaken France, thus ensuring that no other country would attack
Germany. Additionally, Bismarck also prevented threats to Germany through use of defensive

Kaiser Wilhelm had their similarities and differences, both decisions were extremely significant to
World War I in a variety of different ways. For instance, the foreign policies of Otto Von Bismarck
were significant to World War I in the sense that one of Bismarck s primary aims was to weaken and
isolate France. Additionally, Bismarck used diplomacy in order to protect the newly unified German
Empire, as well as to settle disputes and prevent a large European War. Furthermore, Bismarck aimed
to protect the unification of Germany through use of foreign policies and also focused on advancing
their economic interests. Thus, Bismarck had limited interest in building a world empire, unlike
Wilhelm II. In general, through Bismarck s foreign policy tactics and agreements, he successfully
manipulated several countries, and his alliances via his agreements ultimately created a great deal of
tension, and caused Europe to have World War I. Meanwhile, Kaiser Wilhelm II s foreign policy
tactics were significant to World War I as his decisions also ultimately caused World War I to occur.
For instance, Wilhelm II s aims through use of foreign policies was to use Weltpolitik policies that
would make Germany have a place in the sun , and also known as a respected power during the course
of World War I. In order to accomplish these goals, Wilhelm II believed that Germany needed to
expand their territory in order to gain colonies (so that Germany would also have a voice in world
politics), and that Germany needed to have a powerful navy. However, Wilhelm s eagerness to build a
powerful navy ultimately lead to tension with Britain. Additionally, Wilhelm II s aims through foreign

outstanding universal value for its architecture, town planning, landscape, archaeological remains and
its role as a setting for social history , which is a unique WHS in Britain covering the whole city scale

Following the inscription of Bath from UNESCO (2009), which is astonishingly, undertaken with no

Poria(2013) claims that some of the currently designated WHS, since they are recognized as part of
heritage, an increase in demand explosion and tourist boost would be happened. Visitors normally
attracted and associated by the iconic words World Heritage Site , and treat this site as a culturally

In order to balance the distance between the increasing tourism demand and the carrying capacity in
Bath, the living cost in bath has to increase, the local surrounding tends to be crowded. WHS
designation attracts more and more visitors to Bath, at the same time, it is creating troubles for
residents or people who need to living in Bath (Poria,2013).
The increasing popularity pressure could not only make house price, living cost increase, but also lead
to the heavy tourism traffic. As one of the symbols of modern tourists, most joyful travels possibly
rely on cars (Howard, 2003). This change could also be a challenge for Bath tourism, which is hard to

A Woman s Best Quality Eggs
A woman is at her most fertile when she is in the ages 20 to 24. Infertility is generally defined as the
inability to conceive after one year of unprotected sex. At the age of 30 fertility starts to gradually
decline, the chance of successfully conceiving each cycle drops from 22% to just 6 to 8% between 30
and 40 years of age. This big drop in fertility is due to the ageing of a female s eggs. When born
women have around a million eggs, by the time they reach their mid thirties this number will have
dropped to around 25,000. Unfortunately, a woman s best quality eggs will likely have been used up
when younger, meaning the ones left over are of a worse quality and therefore less fertile. Women also
release fewer eggs when they get older. In terms of successful IVF treatment (which is more often
used by older women), for women under 35 years the success rate is around 27%, but for women over
40 years old that drops to as low as 6%. The graph to the left shows the general trend in the drop in
fertility, backing up what was said earlier, and further backed up by Benjamin Younger, the executive
director of the American Society for Reproductive Medicine. He states that fertility continues to
decline after the age of 35 but takes a nosedive at the age of 38. Clearly fertility is something to be
worried about, and looking at these stats it is well worth getting pregnant younger in order to have a
better chance of getting pregnant and also having good quality eggs still. Health

Childhood onset usually begins before the age or ten years and is associated with ongoing problems in
adulthood(5). On the other hand, if the disorder begins in adolescence, there are more positive
outcomes when treated. These individuals usually do not display anti social personality traits in
adulthood. In addition the male female ratio is lower than the childhood type. Lastly, the people with
adolescent onset type have more normal peer relationships(4).
One closely related disorder to conduct disorder is oppositional defiant disorder. This is a disorder
usually seen in children younger than 10 years. It is characterized by a pattern of frequent
uncooperative hostile behavior towards authority figures. It is manifested by frequent temper
tantrums, excessive arguing, active defiance, deliberate attempts to annoy others, blaming others,
frequent anger and resentment, mean and hateful talking, and revenge seeking(6). While these
symptoms are part of normal development of two and three year olds they become part of a
diagnosable disorder when they interfere with the normal development of the child. This disorder is
often a precursor to conduct disorder especially the childhood onset type(4).

warehouses and the contracts requiring removal of the asbestos at the option of the buyer do not relate

obligations that are within the scope of Subtopic. Recognition of an asset retirement obligation under

It is estimated that as many as one out of every four people suffers the symptoms of seasonal affective

shorter in the autumn and winter months and changes the way people s bodies react to their day. The
causes of SAD and its symptoms are comparable to clinical depression, yet has risk factors that force
it to stick out. SAD can be best understood by learning about its causes, symptoms and risk factors.
SAD may not have any specific cause, but some factors include your biological clock and serotonin

Symptoms can differ depending on the season and person: The timing of SAD symptoms can vary by
months or weeks. As someone may begin to feel SAD symptoms in September, another person can
feel well until after Christmas (E. Rosenthal, 2013). During the colder months of the year it is no
surprise that gaining weight, oversleeping or having low energy occurs in 10 20 percent of people.
These symptoms increase through the months of keeping warm in our houses and holidays with
family. Sufferers may crave comfort foods such as pastas, breads and sugar which would lead to
weight gain and negative body image. In the spring and summer months a person with SAD is more
likely to have weight loss, insomnia or anxiety. Those symptoms bear resemblance to mania than
depression. The symptoms for the seasons seem to be opposite of each other, and show that SAD is a
depression to take seriously. Sometime the location of where a person is living can change how they
are affected: The timing of the appearance of symptoms also depends on where a person lives (E.
Rosenthal, 2013). People who live further from the equator are more likely to suffer from more severe
symptoms. These symptoms include thoughts of suicide or death, low self esteem and loss of interest
in daily activities. These sufferers will feel down for days at a time and may even turn to alcohol or
drugs to cope. These symptoms should drive a person to want to see their doctor. The symptoms of
SAD have the ability to change based on the risk

The Business Model Of Like Uber
DoorDash, like Uber, is an example of yet another Peer to Peer business model; this one takes orders

delivers it to the consumer, thereby eliminating the relationships between restaurants and clients. To
that end, DoorDash operates not only as a customer acquisition company, but also as a logistics
company focused on food delivery. DoorDash is disrupting the old way that food is delivered to

Having a Strong Technical Team
In the story of this company, its CEO Xu said, to make one delivery successful there s fifteen small
things you have to get correct, which is shocking. This is true because the company must consider
every detailed problem like the most appropriate time to arrive at each restaurant. These optimization
problems make it difficult to make delivery times more efficient and satisfactory to customers. To
solve this problem, the company hires a team of engineers to build a high functioning online system.
This system allows DoorDash to obtain and keep customers and therefore obtain more business. A
strong technical team is crucial for any peer to peer business model like DoorDash.

Food delivery is not the same as other delivery service because it has limited peak times. Most food
deliveries happen during mealtimes. Due to this fact, DoorDash uses contract workers instead of full

quality of the service.

contact with the outside world, giving her a obstructed view. Also, being as this is a memoir, and most
memoirs look to be entertaining, some details may have been embellished or removed. The memoir
was also written twenty years after her experience so it may not be accurate. Her purpose was to

value is that her family was humiliated and her father was arrested, so she understood what
persecution was like, and more importantly, fear. A limitation may be that as a twelve year old, her

Video Games and Violence
There are probably millions and billions of video games sold every year to people. Some people seem
to believe that violence correlates directly with video games. Video games are something that is
usually a big interest in people at the ages of 13 to 19 years old. Video games usually start off as a

happens while a person is engaging in these games most of the time. These games are another way to
observe how people react emotionally to these games.
These video games have ratings made officially by the Entertainment Software Rating Board or ESRB

During this time, the North and South develop different economic systems, which created political differences between the regions. Between 1815 and 1840, the number of eligible voters drastically increased as politicians utilized a wider variety of campaigning methods in order to appeal to as many voters as possible, all essentially caused by economic growth. Politics grow to include universal white male suffrage, a strong national government, and nationalism versus sectionalism. Economic Growth (American System, Industrial Revolution, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Political figures began appealing for popular support, using tactics like public rallies, picnics, slanderous charges, and newspapers to capture attention. Document I is a campaign almanac that promotes the 1840 candidacy of Harrison and Tyler. During this time period, it was common for political candidates to use almanacs, tracts, buttons, effigies, and rallies to publicize and romanticize their records. Political parties themselves began to change as people like Martin Van Buren tried to go back to old political parties (Document C). He thought that the best political combination would unite southern planters and plain Republicans of the North. Van Buren was part of a group of shrewd politicians called the Albany Regency With the help of their newspaper, the Albany Argus, they controlled party nominating conventions and political patronage (spoils system) while in office. Seen in Doc G, the number of different newspapers in the United States increased to 1,200, with the number more than tripling between 1810 and 1835. Newspapers were widely distributed, and after innovations made newspapers affordable were widely used as a campaign tactic. There were many causes of the incredible political changes during 1815 1840 s, but the main cause was economic growth. The War of 1812 caused men like Henry Clay and John Calhoun to find ... This seminal intelligence scale assesses a child s general intellectual ability across four domains, producing four corresponding index scores: (1) the Verbal Comprehension Index (VCI), (2) the Visual Spatial Index (VSI), (3) the Working Memory Index (WMI), and finally (4) the Processing Speed Index (PSI). The VCI measures verbal concept formation, specifically assessing children s ability to listen to a question, draw upon learned information from both formal and informal education, reason through an answer, and express their thoughts aloud. An example item from this index is similarities, vocabulary, and comprehension. Next, the VSI measures non verbal and fluid reasoning and assesses children s ability to examine a problem, draw upon visual motor and visual spatial skills, organize their thoughts, create solutions, and then test them. An example item from this index is solving a 3D puzzle. The WMI measures working memory and assesses children s ability to memorize new information, hold it in short term memory, concentrate, and manipulate that information to produce some result or reasoning processes; an example item would be letter number sequencing. This measure is particularly important for higher order thinking, learning, and achievement. Harding did not last for long in his terms because he died due to illness, but there were speculations that he was murdered by his wife or that he killed himself. The next Republican president that caught the nation s eye was Calvin Coolidge. Calvin really got noticed when he used the National Guard to break up a strike in Boston. Coolidge reduced the federal debt, lowered income tax rates (mostly for the wealthy) with 3 Revenue Acts and began construction of a national highway system that was very useful for trading and such. • 9. The Humanity Of Frankenstein In Mary Shelley s Frankenstein For as long as man has encompassed this world, the divisive enigma of humanity has prevailed. Seeping its way into each generation, while sparking heated conversations, it has become evident that there is much we do not know about what truly makes us human. Regardless of our genetic composition, philosophers often ponder the deeper meaning of humanity. We know that, biologically, recreating the genetic makeup of a human does not yield humanity, so what is the missing aspect? Humans have the ability to contemplate their own existence in this world. Awareness of existence. This driving force enables us to analyze situations while placing ourselves within them. Our involuntary ability to understand the impact of our actions and the affect they have on others causes us to be inherently human. Our actions evoke strong emotions within us that allow us to learn through our experiences. We retain the resonated feelings of certain occurrences and apply them to others in order to deduce outcomes. Often this facet of mankind is taken for granted, yet we are reminded, through both literature and hypothetical scenarios, of its importance. Frankenstein, by Mary Shelley, constitutes as one of these profound reminders. Shelley develops a theoretical story in which the humanity of Frankenstein s monster is questioned. Despite having the accurate organs and framework of a human, Shelley causes the reader to seek the missing aspect that is preventing the monster from being human. Likewise, ... • 10. Social Control In Metropolis A great deal of fictional films and literature deal with the concept of society. Writers have played around with the idea of societies that are different from the world we know. While some portray this in optimistic ways and others darker, what these works have in common is the idea of social control wherein people are forced to conform to means that are believed to benefit their society. Fritz Lang s 1927 silent film, Metropolis is an early example of this. The beginning shows machine gears and workers marching towards a factory. This place is known as the Workers City, described to be far below Metropolis, the city for the upper class founded by Joh Fredersen (Alfred Abel). First of all, the set design was intricate and very detailed, especially in the factories where there were gears and machines operating everywhere. Every inch brought the setting to life. There was a clear distinction when switching from Metropolis to the Workers City that was seen in the scene s setting. Moreover, the settings were given more depth by the frames and angles in which they were shot. Many scenes would show the main subject or image centered in the frame, and this was given emphasis with the use of dark shadows in contrary to a bright subject. Shadows indeed played a big part in creating visuals. The technique of chiaroscuro, the contrast between light and dark comes to mind, like in scenes that were more somber and serious (e.g. carrying the dead bodies from the factory, Maria making prophecies about peace). In connection with the concept of angles, Fritz Lang also had a commendable use of symmetry, which was visually appealing especially with intricately designed sets. Explaining how global poverty and environmental decay are twin problems would be a lot less difficult to do if many other factors were not included in this issue. What mainly affects these problems is the fact that people in this day in age have a massive urge to want more in every aspect of life more money, more technology, more materialistic items what is not being taken into serious consideration is the fact that our wants outweigh our needs, and our Earth is the only thing that can not continue to grow with the growth of our wants. In such a fast developing country like our own, we fail to forget how our materialistic needs and the drive to always stay on top ultimately effects our physical Earth and the rest of the underdeveloped countries in the world. The primary concern is that a world of over six billion people striving materialistic satisfaction is drawing ever more heavily from finite supplies of natural resources to fuel an economic growth model destined to lead to an ecological disaster and global poverty without precedence (Harder and Harder 1). As Harder and Harder explain, we must find an economic way of life that is economically stable. There are many different perspectives that view economic growth in different aspects. Twenty men and women were hanged under the accusation of performing witchcraft, and in turn created a mass hysteria within the citizens of Salem. Undoubtedly, the cause of these accusations and hysteria was ergotism, a disease caused by infected rye grain. The conditions of the region contributed to much of the growth of ergot. Ergotism had many distinct symptoms, which matched much of the testimony and accounts of those involved in the Witch Trials. All of these circumstances definitively caused the terror and panic found in the town of Salem in 1692. Ergot, more specifically known as Claviceps purpurea (The Witches Curse), is a fungus that mainly infects cereal grains. This fungi is commonly found on the rye plant. In Salem, rye was a large, sustainable crop due to the plant s growing season coinciding well with the ideal growing season of the region, as Spring sowing was the rule; the bitter winters made fall sowing less successful. Seed time for the rye was April and the harvesting took place in August (Linnda Caporael). The weather and climate also provided for hearty rye crops to be grown. The weather in 1691, the year the rye consumed in 1692 was grown, was described as Early rains and warm weather in the spring progressed to a hot and stormy summer (Caporael). Essay On The Differences Between Bismarck And Wilhelm Overall, while the foreign policies of Bismarck and Kaiser Wilhelm were not very similar, they did both maintain the Dual and Triple Alliances, and Germany was at the center of European diplomacy during both era s, however it was in different ways. Therefore, while both policies did not share many similarities, they did have their key differences. For instance, during the rule of Otto Von Bismarck, Germany had a strong and well developed foreign policy. This is because through the use of foreign policy, Otto Von Bismarck aimed to weaken France, thus ensuring that no other country would attack Germany. Kaiser Wilhelm had their similarities and differences, both decisions were extremely significant to World War I in a variety of different ways. For instance, the foreign policies of Otto Von Bismarck were significant to World War I in the sense that one of Bismarck s primary aims was to weaken and isolate France. Additionally, Bismarck used diplomacy in order to protect the newly unified German Empire, as well as to settle disputes and prevent a large European War. Furthermore, Bismarck aimed to protect the unification of Germany through use of foreign policies and also focused on advancing their economic interests. Thus, Bismarck had limited interest in building a world empire, unlike Wilhelm II. In general, through Bismarck s foreign policy tactics and agreements, he successfully manipulated several countries, and his alliances via his agreements ultimately created a great deal of tension, and caused Europe to have World War I. Meanwhile, Kaiser Wilhelm II s foreign policy tactics were significant to World War I as his decisions also ultimately caused World War I to occur. For instance, Wilhelm II s aims through use of foreign policies was to use Weltpolitik policies that would make Germany have a place in the sun , and also known as a respected power during the course of World War I. In order to accomplish these goals, Wilhelm II believed that Germany needed to expand their territory in order to gain colonies (so that Germany would also have a voice in world politics), and that Germany needed to have a powerful navy. However, Wilhelm s eagerness to build a powerful navy ultimately lead to tension with Britain. • 28. A Woman s Best Quality Eggs A woman is at her most fertile when she is in the ages 20 to 24. Infertility is generally defined as the inability to conceive after one year of unprotected sex. At the age of 30 fertility starts to gradually decline, the chance of successfully conceiving each cycle drops from 22% to just 6 to 8% between 30 and 40 years of age. This big drop in fertility is due to the ageing of a female s eggs. When born women have around a million eggs, by the time they reach their mid thirties this number will have dropped to around 25,000. Unfortunately, a woman s best quality eggs will likely have been used up when younger, meaning the ones left over are of a worse quality and therefore less fertile. Women also release fewer eggs when they get older. In terms of successful IVF treatment (which is more often used by older women), for women under 35 years the success rate is around 27%, but for women over 40 years old that drops to as low as 6%. The graph to the left shows the general trend in the drop in fertility, backing up what was said earlier, and further backed up by Benjamin Younger, the executive director of the American Society for Reproductive Medicine. He states that fertility continues to decline after the age of 35 but takes a nosedive at the age of 38. Clearly fertility is something to be worried about, and looking at these stats it is well worth getting pregnant younger in order to have a better chance of getting pregnant and also having good quality eggs still.
