had to design an original toy for children aged eight and under. Each group has to

Uses of Logos, Ethos, and Pathos in Longfellow s Paul Revere s Ride Poet Henry
Wadsworth Longfellow, in his famous poem Paul Revere s Ride, tells of the heroic
and famous ride of Paul Revere during the American War for Independence. His use
of pathos, logos, and ethos in this illustrious work give readers an excellent mental
image of this important event in our history, and allow this to seem both a real event,
and a fiction story meant to stir the imagination and intrigue readers. This work is
an excellent depiction of the event, albeit not perfectly historically accurate. The
poem gives readers an excellent sense of the situation our rider is in, and is very
much worth reading. In the first stanza, Longfellow begins the poem by making it
appear as though the poem is being read to a group of children. Though not a use
of logos, ethos, or pathos, this is an excellent way to begin this poem, as it gives
readers a view into the context of what setting the poem is being written; a story
from history being read to children. This first stanza presents the context in a clever
way, and has a smooth transition into the second stanza. In the second stanza,
Longfellow s use of the quote gives the reader a sense of historical accuracy. This
is an excellent use of ethos, as it gives him credibility by quoting what very well
may be something that truly was said on that famous night. Using this approach is
very effective, because it tells readers something they knew, except with a direct
quote that most likely gave directions as to what to do as the event being written
about was taking place. This second stanza draws the reader in, and helps
Longfellow to grab the reader s attention to continue his telling of this historical
event, with the reader most likely believing him. In the third stanza, Longfellow
uses pathos very well, as his description of the British ship in the harbor makes a
very bleak and slim chance of success for the Americans. One could become
especially emotionally connected to the story after reading this, as a sense of
urgency is omitted about the need for Revere to be informed of how the British shall
charge, and that he must ride even

power to rule came directly from the people and that the people could delegate and

The Revolutionary war another name for the war of independence and lasted from
1775 and ended 1783. There was a lot of tension between the 13 colonies and the
British Monarchy. Smaller battles between British troops and smaller militias near
Lexington and Concord kicked off the war. And by 1777 the rebels began a full
scale war on Great Britain. The war turned into an international conflict when France
joined the war and sided with the American colonists in 1778. With the help of the
French the British surrendered at Yorktown in 1781 but the war did not officially end
until 1783. When conflict between groups of American colonists and British soldiers
had begun in April 1775, the Americans were solely fighting only for their rights as...
Tensions were high and had been building for years between residents of the
American colonies and the British authorities, primarily in Massachusetts.
Suddenly on the night of April 18, 1775, British army regiments marched through
Boston to Concord with the task of seizing an arms cache. The well known Paul
Revere and other riders sounded the alarm, and colonial militia began deploying to
intercept the Redcoats. An engagement on the Lexington town green began the
skirmishing, soon the British were quickly retreating due to severe fire. The
battles some larger than others still continued, and in 1783 the colonists formally
succeeded in their fight for independence. The British were very aggressive in their

Awake and Dreaming: A Memoir of Narcolepsy, written by Julie Flygare. The book is
about a young adult experience the early signs associated with narcolepsy and the
effect it has on her daily life as a law student. While this book doesn t directly tie to a
particular field, it does tie well with my life as well as future plans in similar career

A private detective is a detective who is not a member of an official force but is
employed by a private party or self employed in his or her own practice. The most
famous mystery fictional character Sherlock Holmes is a perfect example of what a
private investigator is and should be. In this paper, I will be discussing Sherlock
Holmeslife along with the several unique ways he solves his mysteries throughout his
books. I will also be comparing and contrasting him with other detectives and review
the impact his stories left on others. Sir Arthur Conan Doyleis the British writer and
physician who created the famous detective Sherlock Holmes. He portrays Holmes
so be the smartest and most effective detective in London, England. Holmes was a
character very much of his time and place, who appealed to British readers directly
by confronting the messy, changeable world they live in (Long). Most people in
today s time are still fairly familiar to such a strongly created character even though
his mystery stories were written around the late 1800 s and early 1900 s. Doyle
got his inspiration for Holmes from his professor, Joseph Bell, the famous Scottish
lecturer who taught at the medical school of University of Edinburgh. Doyle s most
famous book was The Hound of the Baskervilles , written in the early 1900 s.
Which is a mystery where everyone thinks a ghostly, killer like dog, which has
