As defined by Merriam Webster, Existentialism is, a chiefly 20th century philosophical movement
embracing diverse doctrines but centering on analysis of individual existence in an unfathomable
universe and the plight of the individual who must assume ultimate responsibility for acts of free will
without any certain knowledge of what is right or wrong or good or bad (Merriam Webster).
Logotherapy/existential analysis is based on the premise that within one s self there lies the 1)
Freedom to will, 2) will to meaning , and 3), meaning to life . (Batthyany, Alexander) Meaning to life
as it pertains to classic existential theory and logotherapy, is defined by the individual on a situational
basis. It can vary based on what is essential to the individual and their well being (Existentialism By
Branch/Doctrine, The Basics of Philosophy). Frankl concentrates on what it was that drives people to
live, and determined that those who survived the unspeakable circumstances of the Nazi camps had
been those who focused on the meaning of their lives. Frankl s psychological anthropological model
addresses the ability for others overcome

Michael Oher Biography
After trading their first and fifth round draft picks to the New England Patriots in exchange for the
23rd overall pick, the Baltimore Ravens front office was buzzing with excitement. They knew what
they needed, and they knew who they wanted: a 6 5 322 pound force on the offensive line. Earning

and paving way for Ole Miss RB Mico McSwain to establish the freshman rushing record, left tackle
Michael Oher was a force to be reckoned with. His talent and size were unmatched and unheard of on
his path to greatness. His success on the field, however, doesn t truly reflect his struggled upbringing

As soon as his grades were adequate enough to provide him eligibility for sports, he started working
towards basketball season. It was also during this time period when he first met the Tuohy family.
When Sean Tuohy first laid eyes upon Big Mike, which is what he was referred to around school, he
saw a boy with nothing but potential. The dilemma for Tuohy, however, was how he planned to get
him there. It was during one of the Briarcrest basketball games when he had his first encounter with
Oher; a large black kid at a rich predominantly white Christian school picking up unfinished popcorn
buckets off the bleachers. Tuohy began to pay for Oher s lunches without his knowledge, but it wasn t
until his wife Leigh Anne Tuohy met Big Mike that they really began to impact his life for the better.
She took him in, and became a sort of mother to him. She clothed him, fed him, and even let him sleep

Essay about Porphyrias Lover and My Last Duchess by...
Compare the two poems Porphyria s Lover and My Last Duchess by Robert Browning. What do they
reveal about attitudes to women and relationships in the nineteenth century?
Robert Browning was one of the greatest poets of the nineteenth century. In 1842, he published
Dramatic Lyrics which included the two poems Porphyria s Lover and My Last Duchess . In Porphyria
s Lover Browning gives the reader a dramatic insight into the twisted mind of an abnormally
possessive lover, who wishes the moment of love to last forever. In this essay, Porphyria s Lover will
be compared to Robert Browning s other dramatic monologue, My Last Duchess , where an Italian

She had
A heart how shall I say? too soon made glad,
Too easily impressed; she liked whate er
She looked on, and her looks went everywhere
In both poems, there are similarities in the narrator s attitudes towards their women. Both narrators
show an unnatural possessiveness towards them, presenting an unattractive, all encompassing jealousy
that wanted to eclipse all other interests that their women may have. It means that in each poem, the
narrators end up killing their wives. In Porphyria s Lover , the narrator justifies his actions by saying
he wanted to preserve the perfect moment in time.
That moment she was mine, mine, fair
Perfectly pure and good:
At that point of pure passion, the narrator s lover belonged to him totally the repeated words mine,
mine emphasise this. To stop the struggles and conflicts that would prevent them from seeing each
other, he decided to kill her. His act of strangulation was a crime of passion it was not pre meditated.
By contrast, the death of the Duchess was a cold, calculated move by the Duke to remove the source
of his jealousy. She gave her favours to others too willingly, and did not value his nobility and all that
it stood for.
She thanked men, good! But thanked
Somehow I know not how as if she ranked

Paramount had established itself as a global consumer products giant with over $13 billion in

Paramount had established itself as unit volume market leader in 2009 based on non disposable razor

Paramount studies showed that consumers purchased razors and replacement cartridges more
frequently than ever before in the history of Non disposable razors. Also, Paramount s consumer
research indicated that one category of consumers called Maintenance users that made up 33% of
consumers were not interested in Superior technology. A very important finding that cannot be ignored
for Paramount. Based on the data in the case and my analysis, below are my alternatives that can be
used to develop a market strategy that will position Paramount as a market leader in Non Disposable

1) Launch Clean Edge as a mainstream technology product to be a market leader. 2) Launch Clean

Standards And Licensing Regulations For Developing,...
Standard Setting Organizations ( SSOs ) are organizations that are responsible for developing,
coordinating, and commercializing technical standards. These SSOs usually have rules on the usage
and licensing of patented technology within the standard to help guarantee that firms wanting to
implement these standards have access to the technologies required to comply with the standard.
Therefore, usually when a patent holder declares its patents as essential to a SSO and wants to include
it in the standard, the licensing rules of the SSO require the patented technology included in the
standard to be licensed on fair, reasonable, and non discriminatory ( FRAND ) terms. These patents
are commonly known as Standard Essential Patents ( SEPs ).
While a patent holder promises to license the SEPs under FRAND terms, a patent holder might own
some other patents that are important for a given technology but not really essential , these patents are
called non Standard Essential Patents ( Non SEPs ). And, one problem with this is that while the SSO
licensing rules require patent holders to license the essential patents on FRAND terms, in practice,
most patent holders tend to license all of their patents on a given technology without really
distinguishing between what patents are essential and what patents are non essential.
Therefore, the question being explored here is 1) whether the terms of a FRAND commitment are
violated when a patent holder bundles FRAND committed patents along

Bhopal Ethics
The Bhopal gas leak was a terrible tragedy in which thousands of helpless civilians were killed and
hundreds of thousands were injured as they slept. Determining who was at fault and, consequently,
who should compensate the victims and clean up the site are questions that have plagued the affected
parties, my Rotman classmates and the world at large for over 25 years. The analysis to follow, in
attempting to present the roles and responsibilities of each major player, will demonstrate the
incredible difficulty involved in assigning conclusive responsibility for the tragedy. This will be
followed by my personal reflections on the incident in which I present an additional culprit to those
discussed in class. Union Carbide Corporation (US): ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Secondly, the Government neglected the densely populated shanty town that had grown up near the
plant on land deeded from local officials. Its residents were the first and main victims of the poisonous
gas. Still, many will argue that a cost benefit analysis made creating jobs and accessible pesticide for a
poor and hungry region the proper priority. While many were ultimately harmed by the leak, how
many more had benefitted from the poverty alleviating jobs and hunger alleviating crops? Here again
we find valid points and counter points, leaving us no closer to assigning conclusive blame and
responsibility for the tragedy. Dow Chemical: While Dow certainly protected itself in the purchase
agreement from a legal standpoint, there are those that suggest the proper ethical action is for Dow to
assume responsibility for any outstanding clean up and compensation. While this may innately feel
like the right thing to do, the counterpoint that Dow had nothing to do with the incident and should not
be punished after paying fair market value for Union Carbide is also valid. Personal Reflection:
Analyzing the conduct of the major parties has not produced any conclusive allocation of
responsibility. It is clear that each party deserves significant blame but no party deserves total blame.
There is, however, an overlooked culprit that I believe deserves the bulk of the blame: the expectations
market that has hijacked the decision making of US corporations(1).

Gibson Girl versus Flapper Girl Essay
Gibson Girl versus Flapper Girl During the roaring twenty s a new type of women arose, a women
who rebelled against society s standards for women, the Flapper Girl. The new Flapper Girl shocked
society by setting a new type of women beauty that expressed their independence just like men.
Meanwhile the Gibson Girl was the ideal figurehead for female beauty, they were often shown as
fragile and vulnerable. Flapper Girls astonished the world by pushing the limits of the average Gibson
Girl setting new limits that were never foreseen before for women. Before the Flapper Girl there was a

independent women who were not reliant on others, they even demanded the same rights as men such
as the right to vote. The roaring twenty s completely changed how society viewed women, they were
now independent and had many of the same rights men had. Gibson Girls were now a thing of the
past; the new Flapper Girls took the country by storm allowing women to be more self reliant. Women
no longer stayed at home all day, they could now decide for themselves and what they wanted to do
with their lives. This allowed many women to get jobs and earn a living for themselves. No longer did
women have to live up to the standards of men, being a Flapper Girl allowed women to be treated
equally. Women could now vote and obtain jobs that were once only available to men. In conclusion
the roaring twenty s opened new opportunities for women that they had never had before. The Flapper
Girl era allowed women to be more independent. Women could now vote, get the same jobs as men,

How I Saw My Life Branching Out Before Me Like The Green...
1. Esther really enjoyed reading so when a collection of short stories was gifted to her she was very
pleased, and instantly connects with a story about a Jewish man and a Catholic nun who meet under a
fig tree. Their relationship is not prosperous, just as she feels her relationship with Buddy is horrible
also. The symbolism of the fig tree has to do with different lives, Ester can only choose one but, she
wants them all. I saw my life branching out before me like the green fig tree in the story (Plath 77).
When she imagines the fig tree again later on, she sees it as an image of all of the things she could be,
but won t because she s paralyzed with indecision. The bell jar symbolizes her mental illness. She s
trapped inside this metaphorical bell jar, she can see outside, but it s a distorted image of the world,
leaving her suffering with a warped understanding of reality. I would be sitting under the same glass

A major theme of this book is mental illness. Esther was ill and needed to go a mental asylum. She
tried to kill herself, refers to herself as neurotic, lies and was all in all not in the best mental state to be
roaming around alone and unsupervised till she got help. I thought I only need tell him what I wanted
to, and that I could control the picture he had of me by hiding this and revealing that, all the while he
thought he was so smart (Plath 130). Dr. Gordon s answer was shock therapy, obviously that didn t
help at all. But back in that time period they didn t understand the brain activity very well. Mental
illness was completely ignored so dealing with a person like Esther was difficult. Understanding the
novel wasn t all that easy because yet again the knowledge of mental illness back then isn t what it is
today so the descriptions were hard to comprehend. Also reading from a mentally ill person point of
view is always a challenge because you don t really know what they re thinking or going

Taking a Look at Squirrels
Squirrels are everywhere, see figure 1 for an example of the grey squirrels in our area. They skitter
through trees above heads, forage in trashcans, and chew through wires. Squirrels are so common the
average person could easily overlook their importance. Squirrels have played a significant role in the
evolution of seed defenses in pine trees. The evolution of these seed defenses is frequently attributed
to birds and other seed predators (Benkman 1994). The ever present unnoticed squirrel is actually
uniquely designed to prey upon pines and pines in turn have developed traits to defend against them.
Benkman et al discussed this in a paper on limber pine tree dispersal. Their study argues that while
Clark s nutcracker may play an important role in seed dispersal squirrels were actually the most
important seed predator. The study showed that the pine trees adaptations made to defend against
squirrels decreased the efficiency of other seed predators. They set out to prove that squirrels were the
apex seed predator (Benkman 1994 1). This paper will outline some of the research that has been put
together to map out the coevolution of squirrels and pine trees. Since this paper will focus primarily
on squirrels, it is important to have some background knowledge about these omnipresent critters.
Squirrels are mammals included in the order Rodentia, and there are over 1,600 species of Rodentia.
They compose almost a third of all mammal species, and one of the seven

What is Digital Images
DIGITAL IMAGES are electronic snapshots taken of a scene or scanned from documents, such as
photographs, manuscripts, printed texts, and artwork. The digital image is sampled and mapped as a
grid of dots or picture elements (pixels). Each pixel is assigned a total value (black, white, shades of
gray or color), which is represented in binary code (zeros and ones). The binary digits ( bits ) for each
pixel are stored in a sequence by a computer and often reduced to a mathematical analog version for
display or printing. http://preservationtutorial.library.cornell.edu/intro/intro 01.html

Essay on Old Man And The Sea
Old Man and The Sea
quot; The great DiMaggio is himself again! quot;(21), in Ernest Hemingway s novel,
The Old Man and the Sea, which takes place near Havana, Cuba in the Caribbean
Sea, a very old, unlucky, fisherman sets out for the big catch. The great
DiMaggio is seamed throughout the novel to symbolize the old man and his struggle to catch the big
fish, yet also he poses as a role model for Santiago
(the old man).
The old man is using the great DiMaggio for a role model. At a certain point in the struggle to catch
this great fish, the old man begins to cramp up in his left hand, do to the fish pulling so strenuously on

When thinking of the great DiMaggio, the old man remembers to give himself more confidence, and
in doing so thinks back to his younger years when he was referred to as the champion because of an
arm wrestling match. This gave the old man more strength and will to push on and fight the fish until
he wins.
Also this image of DiMaggio reminds him he must be very strategical, and do everything right,
despite any cramps in his hand.
There is hard evidence that shows that DiMaggio symbolizes the old man.
Previously Joe DiMaggio had been struggling in his profession of baseball, due to a bone spur in his
heel. The whole team struggled because DiMaggio was the main hope to the Yankee s team. Now in
the case of the old man, who had previously struggled to catch a fish because of his newly developed
unluckiness, struggles in his life because he has not caught a fish and in turn, has no money to buy the
necessities for life. Well as soon as DiMaggio picked up his game and started to play at a whole new
level, the old man hooked into a great big marlin, and started a fight that would change his life. Not to
mention the fact that DiMaggio played outstanding even though he suffered from a bone spur in his
heel. As did the old man out struggle and out think the fish even though he suffered from a temporary
cramp in his left hand. All of this shows how
DiMaggio quot;is quot; the old man quot; The great DiMaggio is himself again quot;(21).

Usefulness Of Pennies
The common penny has outlived its usefulness. It cost more money to mint pennies than they are
actually worth. In modern society making a penny cost 1.7 cents then the actual prices. With a single

People still find the need to mint more and more pennies every year, costing taxpayers and the
government millions of dollars. According to Citizens to Retire the U.S. Penny, in the year 2014, there

Pennies waste time. Recent study done by Sebastian Mallaby, shows that the average person spends 12

old Palestinian living in the West Bank. For most of Alma s life she has had to fear for her life and the
lives of her family members. What truly stands out about Alma is the deep comprehension that she has
about the situation that is occurring around her rather than seeing the Palestinians and the Israelis as
two different groups she sees them as one. She believes that at the end of the day that the Palestinians
and the Israelis are human beings who deserve dignity, rights, and equal lives. That why for the sake
of the new generation of Palestinians and the Israelis the international community should make it their

The two state solution allows for the Palestinians and the Israelis to be able to fulfill their need for self
determinism, which is the right that has been repeatedly encroached upon. The two state solution will
also result in the mending of the relationship that Israel has with the Palestinians and the Arab world
and it will allow for citizens of each state to be able to live their lives without the constant fear of
violence. To begin with, the two state solution advocates for the importance of engagement and
dialogue between the Israelis and the Palestinians and the Arabs of the middle east. In 1948 1982, the
relationship between the Israelis and the Arabs escalated leading to a civil war. From 1982 and
onwards the tensions have simmered as both side remember the egregious aftermath. This is evident
because about 400,000 Palestinians Arabs had fled from Israel after the segment of the war that lasted
form 1948 1949 (Gale). The forced mass exodus of the Palestinians has been described by the United
Nations Refugee Agency as one of the most protracted case

Epicurus Happiness
According to Epicurus, the purpose of life is attaining happiness since, if [happiness] be present, we
have everything, and, if [happiness] be absent, all our actions are directed towards attaining it.
Although that statement is undoubtedly true, people use different ways for finding happiness. Epicurus
believes that the best guideline towards happiness is pursuing pleasure, which is the alpha and omega
of a blessed life , and avoiding pain. That is why many people describe his approach as very
hedonistic. However, he makes it clear that by pleasure he means the absence of pain in the body and
of trouble in the soul , and not the pleasures of the prodigal or the pleasures of sensuality , which sets
him apart from hedonism. What is more,

Analysis Of The Freedom Riders
Nearly a century after the civil war ended, African Americans continued to encounter discrimination,
racism, inequality, and segregation. Because of their skin color, they were labeled as second class
citizens. They decided to take actions into their own hands and fight against segregation and attain
equal civil liberties. They have faced countless battles, setbacks and enormous resistance. Activists
from all around the country, with all types of backgrounds joined in on the fight against racial
injustice. Their main strategy emphasized passive resistance and nonviolence. On May 4th, 1961,
thirteen brave individuals set out on a mission to start a national movement to overturn segregation in
the south. Under the leadership of Congress of Racial Equality, seven African Americans and six
whites traveled together on two commercial buses, the Greyhound and the Trailways. They called
themselves The Freedom Riders. They intended to travel from Washington DC to New Orleans,
Louisiana together. On the way, they would deliberately violated Jim Crow laws. The Freedom Riders
risked being assaulted, arrested, and even killed. Many other civil rights activists opposed their plan
because they felt the idea was too confrontational and dangerous, and could possibly result in a
setback for the civil rights movement. Despite the risks and opposition, the Freedom Riders did not
abort their mission. The activists were tired of waiting, therefore they decided that they are not going

The Rocky Horror Picture Show
The Rocky Horror Picture Show is one of the most popular movies of all times. It s reach spreads
across generations and countries. At first glance Rocky Horror, as it is commonly referred to, can
seem like a crude movie that s sole purpose is to shock the audience with it s foul language and sexual
content. This is not the case; Rocky Horror brings attention to the gender roles placed on women and
men in society. This message is still important today because more than ever women and men feel
limited in their own bodies.
The opening credits identify to us who fits into what categories. Whilst listen to Richard O Brien
singing the infamous opening song the cast list appears on the screen with the actors name, the
character they play and a gender role they fit into. Dr. Frank n Furter is a scientist, Brad is a hero, and
Magenta is a domestic. Right off the bat we get a sense of how the characters are going to act in the
movie with these titles. The scientist should be smart, feeble and nerdy, the hero will be strong and not
afraid of anything and of course the domestic will be complacent and compliant. These roles are
challenged in the movie. Frank n Furter is in charge, or at least thinks he is, of everything going on in
the house. He is a strong male who is anything but feeble. Brad turns out to be the one who is the most
afraid and unaccepting of what is going on in the house. Whenever Janet participated in the singing or

Moral Injustice In Antigone
Antigone, a magnificent dramatic character, is a woman of courage whose actions and behavior are
completely understandable in the light of modern ideology. Although, she is more ordinary rather than
exceptional. Antigone is the daughter of Oedipus and sister to Eteocles and Polynices, she had been
leading a double life when her brothers Polynices and Eteocles harmed each other treacherously in a
dispute over the throne. It follows that, the person who refuses to follow orders will be sentenced to
death. It s says in Greek literature that women were only allowed to show conventional signs of
sorrows that indicate the death of a person, and to obey Creons orders. For this reason, those people
are obligated to obey Creon s law because they fear the consequences if they do not intend to do so.
From this point, Antigone recognizes that the law is unfair and decided to make uncompromising
decisions that will cost her life entirely by going against the king. Admittedly, Antigone s
manipulations will lead to complicated decisions and away from social obligations where she has to
sacrifice her life for an unjust law to correct it. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Immediately, Tiresias responds guardedly, lamenting his ability to see the truth when it brings nothing

he accuses Creon and Tiresias of going against his life, and charges Tiresias with insanity. After
realizing that it was true he told Creon to send him away from Thebes. Antigone s actions of
challenging the government are character traits inherited from her father. After all, these traits are what
leads her to challenge and go against Creon. In the end, we can see that it turned out to be a positive
trait. By extension, this is because it helped Creon realize that he needed to be more flexible with his

Jazz dancing has evolved from so many varieties of dance styles from the late 1800 s to modern day.
Gus Giordano states that jazz dance came to America by the way of the slaves, their music and dances
that were born from living and came from the soul (Giordano, Gus v). Since the time that this style of
jazz dance has brought its way over to the United States it has evolved greatly and has made drastic

knew that Native American languages, notably Choctaw, had been used in World War I to
encode messages. Johnston believed Navajo answered the military requirement for an
undecipherable code because Navajo is an unwritten language of extreme complexity. Its
syntax and tonal qualities, not to mention dialects, make it unintelligible to anyone without
extensive exposure and training. It has no alphabet or symbols, and is spoken only on the
Navajo lands of the American Southwest. One estimate indicates that less than 30 non
Navajos, none of them Japanese, could understand the language at the outbreak of World
War II.
Early in 1942, Johnston met with Major General Clayton B. Vogel, the commanding
general of Amphibious Corps, Pacific Fleet, and his staff to convince them of the Navajo
language s value as code. Johnston staged tests under simulated combat conditions,
demonstrating that Navajos could encode, transmit, and decode a three line English
message in 20 seconds. Machines of the time required 30 minutes to perform the same job.
Convinced, Vogel recommended to the Commandant of the Marine Corps that the Marines

Hamlet as So Much More Than a Traditional Revenge Tragedy...
Hamlet as So Much More Than a Traditional Revenge Tragedy
Although Shakespeare wrote Hamlet closely following the conventions of a traditional revenge
tragedy, he goes far beyond this form in his development of Hamlet s character. Shakespeare s
exploration of Hamlet s complex thoughts and emotions is perhaps more the focus of the play rather
than that of revenge, thus in Hamlet Shakespeare greatly develops and enhances the form of the
traditional revenge tragedy.
The main source of Hamlet is Saxo Grammaticus Historiae Danicae, a folk tale that has a similar plot
to Hamlet; however, Shakespeare greatly transforms this story of revenge when creating Hamlet.
Shakespeare also draws upon ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The revenge ghost is a convention Kyd took from Seneca s tragedies, and in fact, Don Andrea has
similar parallels to the ghost of Achilles in Seneca s play Troades.
The first appearance of the old king s ghost in the opening scene of Hamlet would have been
suggestive of a revenge tragedy to an Elizabethan audience. However, the ghost does not demand
revenge as Don Andrea does, but rather adds to the uncertainty and sense of foreboding in the scene.
The play begins in a bitter cold night, bringing a sense of pathetic fallacy to the scene, as the setting
adds to the sense of trouble in Denmark, as described by Horatio and Marcellus. It is not until Act I,
Scene V that the ghost appears to Hamlet, demanding revenge [for] his foul and most unnatural
murder, and thus introducing the theme of revenge in Hamlet. Although Hamlet proclaims that [he
will] sweep to [his] revenge, he does not take his revenge until the final scene of the play. Hamlet s
inaction and delay of his revenge is paralleled in The Spanish Tragedy, however the reasons for delay
in Hamlet are somewhat different.
In The Spanish Tragedy, immediately after Hieronimo discovers his son s body he claims that it is
only in revenge [his] heart would find relief, and

Faithful is just a guy who, like Christian, escapes his past life and pursues a life that is down the
straight and narrow path of Christianity. A Righteous man, ridiculed, tortured, and finally burnt at the
stake for his faith, Faithful lives up to his name and is the martyr of The Pilgrim s Progress the one
who suffers and dies for what he believes in. Before Christian meets Faithful on the road from the
Palace Beautiful, Christian seems to be the only real pilgrim on the journey to the Celestial City. The
others pilgrims he has met on his journey (Formalist and Hypocrisy, Mr. Worldly Wiseman, Mr.
Pliable) have either abandoned the journey for its extreme struggles or for being shown the hollowness
of their faith. But Faithful is different unlike his friends he did not have a hollow faith so when he
faced the trials and tribulations he did not deal with them because of his strong faith in the Lord. ...

of obstacles one can face on such a journey. Faithful s death at Vanity Fair lets in a new sense of
danger to the story. The death of one of the pilgrims is foretold by Evangelist. At the trial, however, it
s Faithful s passionate defense that peg him for execution. It s also important to note that, in his speech

The Yellow Wallpaper follows the story of the narrator and her physician husband, John, who move to
a colonial mansion shortly after the birth of their newborn baby in order to help his wife recover from
hysteria and different forms of depression more than likely linked to postpartum depression caused by
the recent birth. The Yellow Wallpaper is about the progress to insanity and freedom. This story also
shows how people tackle and deal with personal obstacles differently. Everyone deals with their
personal obstacles in different ways; some people take longer and some people even ignore the trouble
itself. The Yellow Wallpaper is a perfect example because there are several different obstacles

Motives for Iraq War through Realism and Neo-Conservatism...
The invasion on Iraq by the United States in 2003 has become the biggest, lengthiest, and most
expensive use of armed force since the Vietnam War. It is the first major post Cold War U.S. military
action taken unilaterally, without an international coalition, and the first U.S. experience as an
occupying power in a Middle Eastern country. Although the invasion decision was distinctive (U.S.
military connection in an Arab or Muslim country), the argument here is that the Iraqi invasion deals
with motives related to natural security, power, and resources. Both realism and neo conservatism
claim to capture the motives behind the war, but only through a comprehensive comparison of the two
can a synthesis be achieved. On March 20th, 2003, the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Realism argues that states are inherently self interested, have an innate desire to dominate others, and
that states are not likely to resolve their differences peacefully (Walt 31). Rational statesmen, as
conceived by Morgantheau, continuously embarked on a struggle to accumulate more and more
power. Power was an end in itself as only wars came out of the power struggle (Waltz 40). Realism
helps to explain qualities of foreign policy that remain consistent over time. From a realist standpoint,
verdicts by governments to go to war are the product of all states involuntary participation in eternal
quests for power and security due to an international political environment in which each state fears
the actual or potential hostility of other states (Lieberfeld 2). Leaders logically estimate war s costs
and profits in terms of their state s power and security. States international behavior thus reflects the
constraints imposed on their actions by their relative power position. Even before 2003, the Bush
administration had been forthright and explicit about its goal of global hegemony a power so complete
that challenging it becomes nearly inconceivable. Bush s speech at West Point in spring 2002

competitive edge at an early age. He wanted to win every game he played he didn t care , it didn t
matter who he was playing. He father James noted, what he does have is a competition problem. He
was born with it... the person he tries to out do most of the time is himself.
More things about Jordan s career , so he enrolled at the university of North Carolina at chapel hill in

Sacrificity And Spirituality InThe Butterfly Mosque, And...
In a spiritual journey, often times it is necessary to put oneself at risk. Physical, emotional or
psychological harm can easily befall someone on their travels from Booth s Badland to Homeland.
One s willingness to accept the burden of suffering, begrudgingly or otherwise, resonates throughout
the toils of a spiritual traveller in many forms. Sacrificing oneself or aspects thereof in the pursuit or
support of one s spirituality often presents challenges unique to the journey itself; as Heraclitus of
Ephesus said, You could not step twice into the same river; for other waters are ever flowing on to
you. In The Butterfly Mosque by G. Willow Wilson and the film Silence, directed by Martin Scorsese,
we see two different perspectives on the notion of self sacrifice in search of spiritual growth and
confirmation. While Willow Wilson relinquishes everything she knows in search of a new world that
may open her eyes farther than the Western world ever could, the travels of Sebastião Rodrigues begin
to strengthen his resolve in God, which would be dashed and battered against the Kyushan shores.
Both individuals will be shown to demonstrate the impact acts of self sacrifice have on ones
spirituality, for better or for worse; whether it is one s intent to alter their entire system of belief or not,
the costs that spirituality extolls from a person can have a wide range of unintended effects. Faith can
itself be subject to sacrificial acts; in order to save something else, one might

1080 Is A New Zealand s Largest Environmental Debate Essay
1080 is arguably New Zealand s largest environmental debate dating back to the first time was widely
used in New Zealand back in 1957. 1080 is the shortened name for Sodium Fluoroacetate and is a
poison that is mixed into baits that are then used to control a large range of introduced pests like
possums, stoats and rats in New Zealand. Without controlling these pests the New Zealand native bush
and native species would be decimated. 1080 is a very effective poison and it is reported by The
Department of Conservation (DOC) that 1080 kills approximately 98% of possums and 90% of rats in
the targeted drop area. 1080 is dropped on targeted areas via helicopter to ensure that it is not dropped
anywhere it shouldn t be. 1080 costs approximately $17 per hectare according to the DOC website.
New Zealand imports 80% of the total amount of 1080 produce in the world.
How does 1080 work?
1080 works by once it is eaten by the animal it deactivates many enzymes however the important
enzyme that it deactivates is aconitase this is the enzyme that is important in the Krebs cycle that
converts food into energy. The Krebs cycle is the metabolic pathway that is used by all aerobic
organisms to produce ATP. ATP is important as it is the energy that is used in the body to do pretty
much everything. So when the animal cannot produce ATP the bodily systems begin to shut down.
This means that the animal will starve to death therefore it is not a very nice way to die and it can take
up to 40 hours

COMMUNITY LEGACIES
With the incremental tax dollars generated by the Games and related activity, the province will have
the financial ability to fund important social programs and crucial public services like health care and
education.

FACILITIES
If Vancouver wins the right to host the Games, the province has pledged a total of $310 million over
six years to fund the necessary facilities for the Games. This investment is matched by $310 million
from the federal government to cover the cost of construction of new athletic facilities such as a speed
skating complex at SFU, hockey arena at UBC and Olympic Villages, as well as upgrading existing
facilities to world class standards. Included in this investment are $110 million in legacy funds to
allow the facilities to be maintained and operated for public use after the Games, at no additional cost
to the community. The 2010 Olympic Games are fully supported by the provincial and federal
governments and private sector. The costs of the investment are shared, and so are the benefits – by

Essay on Personal Narrative- Soccer State Championship
Personal Narrative Soccer State Championship
On February 28, 2005, I experienced one of the most exciting events that anyone could ever
experience winning a State Championship. The day my soccer team made history is a day I ll never
forget. However it is not just that day we won the title, but the whole experience of the preceding
season that got us there. From start to finish, my team s 2004 2005 season taught me that the platitude
is true. You can do anything you set your mind to.
From before day one, all our minds were set. This was the year to win a State Championship. I can t
exactly explain it, but right from the start I knew we were going to do it. I was never so sure about
anything in my life and I never doubted it once. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As Christmas break approached, the team faced what was going to be our biggest challenge of all. Due
to his new job, our coach now took the title of assistant and we were given a new head coach. The
coaches were, and are, good friends, but have totally different coaching styles. The first was laid back
and carefree with a great sense of humor, which made him well liked by everyone he coached. The
new coach had a reputation for being arrogant, strict, and having a no tolerance policy when it comes
to joking around. Because of this perspective some girls held of our new coach, many were upset with
the change. After we attended a tournament over the break, however, the girls realized that they had
been wrong about the coach and he was just what we needed to help us achieve our goal.
Unfortunately we still had tension among players. It even got as far as one player taking the ball from
another on the field in the middle of the game. As the season progressed, this problem practically
solved itself as we bonded at practices, pre game get togethers, and voluntarily spending time together
on weekends. We grew from barely tolerating each other to being such a tight knit group that even
schoolmates noticed.
With the Christmas tournament aside, we entered the post season without a loss. We had a plan for
each playoff game from districts to regional. We never deviated from the plan, keeping our eye on the
target

How Did Theodore Roosevelt s Life In The White House
Theodore Roosevelt, the twenty sixth President of the United States. He is known as the youngest man
to ever assume the presidency. He was not like most presidents in office and he changed the White
House in many ways. I chose this question because I thought it was interesting how he was different
than other presidents that lived in the White House. I wanted to know more about his personal life
while serving as president and how it impacted the lives of presidents who succeeded him.
Furthermore, his life as president was different for many reasons.
Teddy Roosevelt lived a very exciting life. I think that his life in the White House was pretty different
from any of the presidents at the time. He often visited his home in which he lived before ... Show

Roosevelt was the United States first progressive president. The Roosevelt family, including his wife,
Edith, and six children moved into the White House. With them they brought over fifteen animals
including, a small bear, a lizard, four guinea pigs, a pig, a badger, a blue macaw, a hen, a rooster, a
hyena, a barn owl, a rabbit, a pony, and five dogs (United States.). This is more animals than there had
ever been in the White House at the time. With the Roosevelt s in the White House it was rarely quiet.
The children were well known for their adventures inside the White House. One time, the kids took
the family pony, Algonquin, up the White House elevator to Archie s, Roosevelt and Edith s second
youngest son, bedroom when he was sick (The Life...). In another instance, Andrew Jackson s portrait
was found to have spitballs on it when one of the kids launched a make believe attack on the White
House. TR played along and called off the attack through the War Department. Newspapers all over
the country printed stories of the pranks and when the public heard of the antics, they fell in love with
the Roosevelt children. They soon became known as The White House Gang . The president s
youngest son, Quentin, once snuck four snakes into the Oval Office and scared a group of
congressmen (SparkNotes Editors.). The children were like not like other children that

Electroneurodiagnostic Technology Essay
Electroneurodiagnostic Tech is a great job to get into, but before you think you want to do it there are
some things you should know. You should know what exactly ENDT s do. ENDT s record electrical

The Avatar Is The Ideal Version Of Oneself
SIMS is a fan favorite video game, where an avatar can be created that is the ideal version of oneself.
The avatar can marry, have a family, land a dream job, and if the individual is so inclined, the avatar
can even kill. As SIMs demonstrates, humans can currently create avatars to do out bidding, to behave
as some aspect of the individual s personality wishes it could do. While this creative process is limited
to video games, the theoretical process suggests that an alternative or parallel reality exists where an
individual can live through another person, in a separate field from his or her actual physical being. In
this other reality, the individual can be who he or she wants to be and behave however they choose,
with the goal of living out their most intimate desires, good or bad. Such is the plot of Being John
Malkovich, whereby Craig, a puppeteer who lives his fantasies through his puppets, ultimately finds a
portal that allows him to live through and control the actor, John Malkovich. Panopticism is a central
theme in Being John Malkovich; Panopticism is a mechanism for gaining power and keeping it, where
criminals who are constantly under surveillance, internalize fear and involuntarily take into their mind
the concepts of the authority figure. Such a mechanism allows power to easily by disseminated
without being weakened. Being John Malkovich demonstrates the idea of panopticism by portraying
the loss of security for free will and individual thinking. This is

The Themes Of Redemption In A Gristmas Carol And A...
A timeless theme is a generalization about a human experience or about life in general that goes
beyond a time and place. The audience will understand a timeless theme no matter how old or modern
the literature is. Timeless themes are true and connect to some aspects of what makes us human. A
timeless theme that was shown throughout the past was redemption. No matter what era were in
people tend to give others another chance. Redemption was shown in both A Christmas Carol written
by Charles Dickens in the year 1843 and the movie A Diva s Christmas Carol directed by Richard
Schenkman in the year 2000. The timeless theme, redemption also appeared in multiple plays and

He changed from being a cold blooded, cruel man to being a sympathetic, kind hearted human being.
Redemption was shown in the play numerous times. Once being when his nephew Fred asked him to
join him and his family for a Christmas dinner Scrooge refused to go because he would much rather
try to earn more money on Christmas than spend time with family and loved ones. A Ghost of
Christmas Present brought Scrooge to Fred s house and showed how Fred was defending him against
all the criticism as to why he didn t come, despite the fact that Scrooge called him poor and a fool for
celebrating Christmas. By looking at what Fred was doing Scrooge started to value family a lot more
and eventually went over to Fred s house on Christmas. Throughout the play, the lower class citizens
were wearing torn, dirty clothing. The filthy clothing showed a clear sign that the town was in poverty
while Scrooge was dressed in clean new clothes, and was very fortunate. Even though Scrooge was
wealthy, he wouldn t give a single nickel to the underprivileged community. He eventually gave back
to the community for those who needed it. Another example was when earlier that day Scrooge

Standard Setting Organizations ( SSOs ) are organizations that are responsible for developing, coordinating, and commercializing technical standards. These SSOs usually have rules on the usage and licensing of patented technology within the standard to help guarantee that firms wanting to implement these standards have access to the technologies required to comply with the standard. Therefore, usually when a patent holder declares its patents as essential to a SSO and wants to include it in the standard, the licensing rules of the SSO require the patented technology included in the standard to be licensed on fair, reasonable, and non discriminatory ( FRAND ) terms. These patents are commonly known as Standard Essential Patents ( SEPs ). While a patent holder promises to license the SEPs under FRAND terms, a patent holder might own some other patents that are important for a given technology but not really essential , these patents are called non Standard Essential Patents ( Non SEPs ). And, one problem with this is that while the SSO licensing rules require patent holders to license the essential patents on FRAND terms, in practice, most patent holders tend to license all of their patents on a given technology without really distinguishing between what patents are essential and what patents are non essential. Therefore, the question being explored here is 1) whether the terms of a FRAND commitment are violated when a patent holder bundles FRAND committed patents along ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

While many were ultimately harmed by the leak, how many more had benefitted from the poverty alleviating jobs and hunger alleviating crops? Here again we find valid points and counter points, leaving us no closer to assigning conclusive blame and responsibility for the tragedy. Dow Chemical: While Dow certainly protected itself in the purchase agreement from a legal standpoint, there are those that suggest the proper ethical action is for Dow to assume responsibility for any outstanding clean up and compensation. • 14. Taking a Look at Squirrels Squirrels are everywhere, see figure 1 for an example of the grey squirrels in our area. They skitter through trees above heads, forage in trashcans, and chew through wires. Squirrels are so common the average person could easily overlook their importance. Squirrels have played a significant role in the evolution of seed defenses in pine trees. The evolution of these seed defenses is frequently attributed to birds and other seed predators (Benkman 1994). The ever present unnoticed squirrel is actually uniquely designed to prey upon pines and pines in turn have developed traits to defend against them. Benkman et al discussed this in a paper on limber pine tree dispersal. Their study argues that while Clark s nutcracker may play an important role in seed dispersal squirrels were actually the most important seed predator. The study showed that the pine trees adaptations made to defend against squirrels decreased the efficiency of other seed predators. They set out to prove that squirrels were the apex seed predator (Benkman 1994 1). This paper will outline some of the research that has been put together to map out the coevolution of squirrels and pine trees. Since this paper will focus primarily on squirrels, it is important to have some background knowledge about these omnipresent critters. Also this image of DiMaggio reminds him he must be very strategical, and do everything right, despite any cramps in his hand. There is hard evidence that shows that DiMaggio symbolizes the old man. Previously Joe DiMaggio had been struggling in his profession of baseball, due to a bone spur in his heel. The whole team struggled because DiMaggio was the main hope to the Yankee s team. Epicurus Happiness According to Epicurus, the purpose of life is attaining happiness since, if [happiness] be present, we have everything, and, if [happiness] be absent, all our actions are directed towards attaining it. Although that statement is undoubtedly true, people use different ways for finding happiness. Epicurus believes that the best guideline towards happiness is pursuing pleasure, which is the alpha and omega of a blessed life , and avoiding pain. That is why many people describe his approach as very hedonistic. However, he makes it clear that by pleasure he means the absence of pain in the body and of trouble in the soul , and not the pleasures of the prodigal or the pleasures of sensuality , which sets him apart from hedonism. • 23. Analysis Of The Freedom Riders Nearly a century after the civil war ended, African Americans continued to encounter discrimination, racism, inequality, and segregation. Because of their skin color, they were labeled as second class citizens. They decided to take actions into their own hands and fight against segregation and attain equal civil liberties. They have faced countless battles, setbacks and enormous resistance. Activists from all around the country, with all types of backgrounds joined in on the fight against racial injustice. Their main strategy emphasized passive resistance and nonviolence. On May 4th, 1961, thirteen brave individuals set out on a mission to start a national movement to overturn segregation in the south. Under the leadership of Congress of Racial Equality, seven African Americans and six whites traveled together on two commercial buses, the Greyhound and the Trailways. They called themselves The Freedom Riders. They intended to travel from Washington DC to New Orleans, Louisiana together. On the way, they would deliberately violated Jim Crow laws. The Freedom Riders risked being assaulted, arrested, and even killed. Many other civil rights activists opposed their plan because they felt the idea was too confrontational and dangerous, and could possibly result in a setback for the civil rights movement. At first glance Rocky Horror, as it is commonly referred to, can seem like a crude movie that s sole purpose is to shock the audience with it s foul language and sexual content. This is not the case; Rocky Horror brings attention to the gender roles placed on women and men in society. This message is still important today because more than ever women and men feel limited in their own bodies. The opening credits identify to us who fits into what categories. Whilst listen to Richard O Brien singing the infamous opening song the cast list appears on the screen with the actors name, the character they play and a gender role they fit into. Dr. Frank n Furter is a scientist, Brad is a hero, and Magenta is a domestic. Right off the bat we get a sense of how the characters are going to act in the movie with these titles. The scientist should be smart, feeble and nerdy, the hero will be strong and not afraid of anything and of course the domestic will be complacent and compliant. These roles are challenged in the movie. Frank n Furter is in charge, or at least thinks he is, of everything going on in the house. He is a strong male who is anything but feeble. Brad turns out to be the one who is the most afraid and unaccepting of what is going on in the house. Whenever Janet participated in the singing or with what the aliens were doing he would get ... Although, she is more ordinary rather than exceptional. Antigone is the daughter of Oedipus and sister to Eteocles and Polynices, she had been leading a double life when her brothers Polynices and Eteocles harmed each other treacherously in a dispute over the throne. It follows that, the person who refuses to follow orders will be sentenced to death. It s says in Greek literature that women were only allowed to show conventional signs of sorrows that indicate the death of a person, and to obey Creons orders. For this reason, those people are obligated to obey Creon s law because they fear the consequences if they do not intend to do so. From this point, Antigone recognizes that the law is unfair and decided to make uncompromising decisions that will cost her life entirely by going against the king. Admittedly, Antigone s manipulations will lead to complicated decisions and away from social obligations where she has to sacrifice her life for an unjust law to correct it. ... Hamlet as So Much More Than a Traditional Revenge Tragedy Although Shakespeare wrote Hamlet closely following the conventions of a traditional revenge tragedy, he goes far beyond this form in his development of Hamlet s character. However, the ghost does not demand revenge as Don Andrea does, but rather adds to the uncertainty and sense of foreboding in the scene. Although the invasion decision was distinctive (U.S. military connection in an Arab or Muslim country), the argument here is that the Iraqi invasion deals with motives related to natural security, power, and resources. Realism argues that states are inherently self interested, have an innate desire to dominate others, and that states are not likely to resolve their differences peacefully (Walt 31). Power was an end in itself as only wars came out of the power struggle (Waltz 40). Realism helps to explain qualities of foreign policy that remain consistent over time. From a realist standpoint, verdicts by governments to go to war are the product of all states involuntary participation in eternal quests for power and security due to an international political environment in which each state fears the actual or potential hostility of other states (Lieberfeld 2). Physical, emotional or psychological harm can easily befall someone on their travels from Booth s Badland to Homeland. One s willingness to accept the burden of suffering, begrudgingly or otherwise, resonates throughout the toils of a spiritual traveller in many forms. Sacrificing oneself or aspects thereof in the pursuit or support of one s spirituality often presents challenges unique to the journey itself; as Heraclitus of Ephesus said, You could not step twice into the same river; for other waters are ever flowing on to you. In The Butterfly Mosque by G. Willow Wilson and the film Silence, directed by Martin Scorsese, we see two different perspectives on the notion of self sacrifice in search of spiritual growth and confirmation. While Willow Wilson relinquishes everything she knows in search of a new world that may open her eyes farther than the Western world ever could, the travels of Sebastião Rodrigues begin to strengthen his resolve in God, which would be dashed and battered against the Kyushan shores. New Zealand imports 80% of the total amount of 1080 produce in the world. The coaches were, and are, good friends, but have totally different coaching styles. The first was laid back and carefree with a great sense of humor, which made him well liked by everyone he coached. The new coach had a reputation for being arrogant, strict, and having a no tolerance policy when it comes to joking around. Because of this perspective some girls held of our new coach, many were upset with the change. After we attended a tournament over the break, however, the girls realized that they had been wrong about the coach and he was just what we needed to help us achieve our goal. Unfortunately we still had tension among players. It even got as far as one player taking the ball from another on the field in the middle of the game. As the season progressed, this problem practically solved itself as we bonded at practices, pre game get togethers, and voluntarily spending time together on weekends. We grew from barely tolerating each other to being such a tight knit group that even schoolmates noticed. With the Christmas tournament aside, we entered the post season without a loss. We had a plan for each playoff game from districts to regional. We never deviated from the plan, keeping our eye on the target ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The avatar can marry, have a family, land a dream job, and if the individual is so inclined, the avatar can even kill.
