Prejudices in Cathedral
Prejudice comes in all forms; whether it is due to someone s skin color, religion, or disability, fear
of someone who is different than what you view as normal is apparent all around us. Miriam
Webster defines Prejudiceas injury or damage resulting from some judgment or action of another
in disregard to one s rights . Although most people tend to associate prejudice with racism, that
is not always the case. In quite a few instances of everyday life, it is hate towards another person
you consider to be inferior and not normal. Prejudice implies a closed point of view, one that is
not open to differences and a prejudgment of a group of people you ... Show more content on

The Narrator s thoughts show us that he holds onto these prejudgements of blind people, believing
they have both physical and mental incapabilities, and has not made a point to try and fix this
perspective. The Narrator also feels he has an inherent superiority to Robert because of this,
placing a self centered twist onto everything. For all of the Narrators prejudice towards others, he
is more than happy to not place any of his critical and judgemental focus on himself.
It is shown in glimpses of the story how the Narrator dictates his world by only what he can
actually see, placing a limitation on himself that Robert does not have. It was beyond my
understanding. Hearing this, I felt sorry for the blind man for a little bit. And then I found myself
thinking what a pitiful life this woman must have led (139). The Narrator lacks what can be
perceived as a sight into both his own, and others, emotions. It is further on that we come to realize
how much the Narrator relies on his vision, thinking that Robert s wife, Beulah, could have worn
anything she wanted to, not because she felt like it, but because no one could appreciate how she
beautiful or ugly she looks. Although the Narrator can obviously see, he does not realize the
restrictions he placed upon himself and how those restrictions prevented him from wanting or doing
anything greater with his own

Similarities And Differences Between The Southern And...
In the late 1700 s, dozens of historians learned about events and forces that drove many colonial
people to an armed rebellion. Among the patriots and economic determinists, fundamental
agreement prevails, and the immediate cause is The American Revolution. Although the people of
the colonies all lived in the same country, there were many similarities and differences between the
southern and northern colonies, such as religion, economics, politics and governments.
During the Revolution, there were thirteen different colonies, and when talked about they were
divided into three different geographical locations, northern, middle and southern. The Northern
region, also known as, the New England colonies, consisted of Rhode Island, Connecticut,
Massachusetts, and New Hampshire. The Southern colonies consisted of Maryland, Virginia, the
Carolinas, and Georgia. In the old colonial system a colony was to be a colony in the most obvious
sense of the word: a perpetually subordinate agricultural and extractive area that served the mother
country as a source of raw materials, a safety valve for excess or unwanted population, and a market
for finished goods. During the seventeenth and eighteenth century, mercantilism played a major role
throughout the colonies. Mercantilism is a economic theory that enabled the government to
regulate the economy for the purpose of building up the rival nations economic power. The
colonies, which belonged in the northern region, were a dysfunctional

Themes, Motifs and Symbols in A Midsummer Night s Dream Essay
Throughout the play, A Midsummer Night s Dream, written by William Shakespeare, are several
themes, motifs, and symbols. Dreams are a reoccurring theme. Dreams are connected to the
unexplainable and mysterious events, occurring in the woods. A Midsummer Night s Dream can
be compared to The Tempest , also written by Shakespeare, because it contains the same theme of
dreams That, if I then had waked after long sleep, / Will make me sleep again: and then, in
dreaming (3.2. 139 140, Caliban) Contrast of appearances verses reality is a common motif
throughout the play. It is leading the lovers into believing that the fantasies, which they are

what visions have I seen! Methought I was enamour d of an ass. (4.1. 63 64). Titania is
uncertain whether her vision is a dream or reality, because dreams are soon forgotten, while
Titania s vision is conspicuously detailed and memorable. In act five, scene two, at the end of
the play, Puck also is desiring for the audience to view the play as a vision, which is appearing,
but is no more clear than a dream While these visions did appear./And this weak and idle theme,

frequently occurring motif, throughout the play, is contrast between appearances verses reality.

Selective Abstraction
Selective abstraction one example of this would be a person getting a good grade in a class but
mainly focusing on the one assignment that they got a bad grade in and think about that in a
negative aspect. I use this sometimes because in my life I always want to do my very best when
it comes to school, when get a bad grade I sometimes do dwell on that for a while. Negative
predication, one example of this would be if a person thinks that they are not going to get an
apartment that they signed up for even though they have a perfect record when it comes to paying
rent on time. Overgeneralization one example for this would be if an individual had a bad day at
work, he might conclude that he is a bad coworker. Looking through the many cognitive

Interpretation Of Interpretation
In this week, our focus mostly drew on the interpretation of our sources, finding evidence to
interoperate, and make up our strong thesis. According to Writing Analytically, the first thing we
should pay our attention is that we are supposed to concentrate on what the thing itself
communicates as opposed to what someone might have wanted it to communicate, which means
that it is not bad thing to interoperate author s intension, however, we should mainly focus on the
subject itself. Also, we should avoid both the Fortune Cookie school of interpretation and the

Secondly, explain how the details you have focused on in the evidence lead your working thesis.
Thirdly, locate evidence that is not adequately accounted for by the working thesis and pursue the
implications of that evidence by repeatedly asking so what? Explain how and why these pieces of
evidence complicate the working thesis. Fourthly, use your analysis of the complicating evidence
to reformulate the thesis. Sharing with reader your reasons for moving from your initial claim to
this reformulation. Fifthly, test the adequacy of the evolved this by repeating steps two, three, and
four until you are satisfied that the thesis statement accounts for your evidence as fully and
accurately as possible. The best test of a thesis is to see how much of the relevant evidence it can
reasonably account for. Finally, rewrite the draft into a more coherent and fuller analysis of
evidence, while retaining for readers the thesis trail the various steps that you went through along
the way to formulating the thesis you ultimately choose. I would definitely say that these 6 steps
helped me a lot to track with my thesis statement.
In this week, we kept our focus on how to make our thesis statement complex and compelling, and
also we paid lots of attention on secondary source integration.
At this time, we were require to keep on track of our papers. Which means we drew a clear
conclusion on what we can change and what we should remain constant at this time. Obviously,

The Advantages And Pros And Cons Of A Wireless Body Sensor...
Abstract The growth of population now a day is resulting in immense pressure on healthcare
service. Population residing in remote areas such as villages are devoid of good health check up
facility. Therefore it is utmost necessary that to make it accessible to them. A basic Wireless
Body Sensor Network (WBSN) consisting of sensors that can collect the physiological data of a
person is used for this purpose. The collected data is then transported to the doctors for its analysis,
which can be efficiently done using VANETs. In addition to that, data can be automatically
analysed by smart vehicles to check for emergency situations. In such case any nearby healthservice
can be contacted and rushed to the patient. An analysis of the various architectures for this purpose
is done in this paper and pros and cons are investigated to enlighten the future research.

Herbs By Douglas Shar Summary
The article published on Prevention.com, titled Try the Fountain of Youth Herbs: Plant hormones

subjective information with relatively little credible and scientifically supported assertions. After
analyzing the Health Connections section in the course textbook, Nutrition From Science to You

presented in the herb article. Rather, I am particularly skeptical of Schar s statements and

Why Whales Lose Their Legs Lab
Why Whales Lost Their Legs

INTRODUCTION
Millions of years ago, whales had legs. Pakicetus, the first whales, were land animals. Pakicetus
does not resemble the whale at all from the outside but, they share a similar ear region that is unlike
those of any other mammal. This discovery provided evidence that Pakicetus and whales are linked.
The question is, why did whale lose their legs? Simulating a leg with and without legs in different

making ourselves weaker, we all unite under one common banner, with one king chosen by the
council, to rule over the world as one unified nation! There was a long pause. One minute went

The Tobacco Industry And The United States
The tobacco industry in the United States has expanded immensely over the past century, and is
one of the leading cash crops in the country. Cigarettes held the largest margin in the market with
an average of over 65% in overall sales. The United States tobacco market held a total revenue of
$161.3 billion in 2014, this is one of the largest industries in the world for a single country. There
are four major companies that run the mass production of tobaccoproducts in the United States, the
Altria Group, Swisher International, Imperial Tobacco Group and Reynolds American. Many
Americans have resorted to the use of e cigs or electronic cigarettes and illicit tobacco sales, this
accounts for a small, yet growing market. The tobacco industry started its reign in the U.S after
World War I and World War II, soldiers overseas were given free cigarettes every day. Companies
began to hire, and the marketing campaigns started. By 1945 the production of cigarettes has
reached 300 billion per year and military men were receiving 75% of them. In 1965 Congress
passed a law stating that there must be a warning label on every pack of cigarettes that said

The Garcinia Cambogia Extract Diet Pills
Abstract
The following paper explores the subject of the Garcinia Cambogia Extract Diet Pills, and how
this supplement s main ingredient, hydroxycitric acid (HCA), contrary to manufacturer
advertising, does not lead to weight loss. In fact, both Garcinia Cambogia and HCA can prove
to be harmful to health if taken in large doses or for a long period of time. Because it is a
supplement and not considered a drug, the Food and Drug Administration does not monitor it.
Garcinia Cambogia was also an active ingredient in Hydroxycut products, but due to the high
numbers of people developing liver failure while taking the Hydroxycut pills or formula, the
ingredient was removed and the products were re marketed and resold. Keywords: diet pills, ...

diet pills and its primary ingredient can cause bodily harm ( Consumer Reports Dirty Dozen ,

discomfort, and headache ( Garcinia, n.d., sec. 3). Additional side effects include dizziness, dry
mouth, upset stomach, [and] diarrhea ( Garcinia, n.d., sec. 4) (original in list format). The
supplement can also cause problems if a woman is pregnant, plans to become pregnant, is
breastfeeding ( Garcinia, n.d.), or, for both men and women, are taking other medications (Schaefer,

Research in its early stages, however, suggests that the ingredient may be able to prevent fat
storage, control appetite, and increase exercise endurance ( Garcinia, n.d., sec. 1). Because the
Food and Drug Administration does not regulate supplements, manufacturers are able to decide
exclusively the doses of each ingredient that forms the supplement (Fetters, 2013). The garcinia
cambogia is currently sold as a powder or pill, with doses of 250 1,000 milligrams per day
(Schaefer, n.d.). One criticism of HCA is that while it can prevent certain enzymes from affecting
metabolism, the studies researching and testing HCA have only been done behind a scientific
background, which has not

Conceptions Of Justice
Many of the most important aspects of and decisions about social organization hinge on an
individual or society s conception of justice. Because this conception of justice has tremendous
influence over the way societies are structured, political theorists interested in understanding and
improving society place great importance on understanding and articulating the nature of justice.
While most of the political theorists we have read in class have proposed definitions of justice, none
of them sufficiently incorporate the many dimensions of justice while remaining specific enough to
allow for relatively consistent distinctions between the just and unjust. To balance these competing
demands, I propose that justice is the impartial ordering of... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Aristotle articulates this view by saying that justice considers that those who are equal should have
assigned to them equal things, and that where people differ from one another there must be a
difference in what is just and proportionate to their merits. Recognizing that there are many
different respects in which people can be equal/unequal, he also stipulates that claims (to
preferential treatment) must be based on the elements which constitute the being of the city. To put
this another way, Aristotle believes that justice requires that distinctions made between people be
made only on the basis of relevant differences between them, and that the decisions of the polis to
allocate resources unequally must be made on the basis of differences relevant to the common

Choices with Regard to the Process of Consumption
Consumer choice refers to the decisions consumers make when considering the products and
services they want to purchase. Presently, in this post industrial society, many analysts believe
that social strata in many parts of the world have led to the emergence of consumer society
(Smart, B 2014). Reasons for this are because individuals are being portrayed as having a wide
range of choiceas they are being presented with a wide range of products and services.
As Ellis at al. (2012) notes, privatization of production and distribution of goods and services have
expanded the way consumers can access them, and therefore, there are increased consumer choices.
However, there are arguments that in some cases, consumers have not been provided with adequate
positions to exercise their true choices on goods and services and therefore, which is leading them
to make passive choices in regards their process of consumption. Some arguments assert that
consumers are becoming more and more actively involved in their buying and consumption
processes, especially in this age when people are more enlightened.

The Baroque Era
The Baroque era was a unique period in music that began during the 1600 s and ended around

Leipzig until his death in 1750. Although he excelled his forbears and contemporaries, he did not

composers of all composers and is a source of inspiration for musicians.
While Bach s musical career centered around Germany, Antonio Vivaldiwas the son of a
professional violinist whose musical career cantered in Italy. Born on March 4, 1678, Vivaldi was
a virtuoso violinist and composer whose works included over 500 concertos.
Vivaldi s output was enormous. It is said that he invented ritornello form. If he did not invent
this, he was the first to use this technique. In 1703, Vivaldi began an on and off relationship with
the Ospedale della Pieta, a home for the female offspring of noblemen and their mistresses.
Vivaldi remained working this post for much of his life. He did, however, take leave to compose
many of his famous operas such as Ottone in villa, his first opera.

his rich polyphonic concertos and excelled as a virtuoso organist and composer. The evolution of

Summary Of 13 Most Wanted Men By Alhol Warhol
Instead of taking the rejection with a grain of salt and moving on, Warhol interpreted it as a
challenge to convince others to view him as a serious artist. He realized no one would take him
seriously if he continued to pursue his interests such as displayed in Boys Kissing Boys. Instead
of moving away from his homosexual subject matter altogether, Warhol found other less direct
ways of including it in his work. 13 Most Wanted Men was commissioned to be displayed at the
1964 1965 New York World s fair, but it was painted over within days of its debut in what some
have described as quite literally white washing the work. Warhol printed large images of
criminals side by side who were suspected of being part of the Mafia; the images he gathered
were from a booklet that was released by the NYPD s Commissioner a few months prior to the fair
s opening day. The piece was 20 x20 and done entirely in black and white. Gerard Malanga, Warhol
s studio assistant, said [Andy] thought it would be funny and shocking within the context of a
family outing, in regards to Warhol s choice of subject matter. The subject in this context is the
wanted men. On the surface of the work, it features mugshots of thirteen criminals, however, there
is a double meaning placed within the title of the work. Warhol is toying with the notion that law
enforcement officials were not the only ones who want men. The entire piece is built around a pun
with homosexual undertones. The portraits are

The Provision Of Health Care Services
English essay 1
Esha K Gogri
Should the provision of health care services in an economy be left to the market or should the state
provide? Discuss with reference to the UK.
Health care services are medical and remedial care or service provided to the population of a nation.
Health care services can be provided by the state or left to privatization to provide. It is crucial
for all to have access to health care services, as it is a basic human right. In the UK, the National
Health Services is a publicly funded health care system. The NHS is financed directly through
taxation and so is freely available to citizens. (http://www.nhs.uk/NHSEngland/thenhs/about/Pages
/overview.aspx) The efficacy of the government provided NHS service is debatable as it can be
argued that the provision of health care services by the market is a better option. Although the
market could provide these services, it can be argued that the state should as it allows wider access,
can positively impact the labour force and increase economic growth and development.
The most convincing justification for government intervention in healthcare services is probably
that affordable, timely and quality healthcare is a basic and crucial human right (http:/
/www.who.int/mediacentre/factsheets/fs323/en/). Healthcare that is offered by the state aims to
ensure that the majority, if not all, have access to at least the most fundamental healthcare services
irrespective of their affluence. Vulnerable and

Degree In Nursing
Nurses need many different job skills in order to succeed within this profession. Attention to
detail is important due to the fact that he or she will help doctors operate, administer medication,
and work with treatments that could be crucial to the individual. Another job skill is the need to
be calm under pressure. Nurses are faced with many emergencies such as life or death situations
where they will need to exhibit compassion to the pain and trauma of the individual (Bratcher,

proactively trying to stay that way), to those who are pregnant and bringing new life, to those
who are nearing the end of life and hoping for a peaceful death. Registered nurses must have one
of the following degrees in order to be qualified in this field. One must have a Bachelor of

The Similarities Of Frank Wright And Frank OGehry
More and more people create our hotels, schools, homes, theme parks, and several other
structures. Those people are called architects, they are people who design buildings and
construct them in some cases. People may also define them as scientists and artists. Frank Wright
and Frank O Gehry are similar, however, they have their own unique style and design when it
comes to buildings. Frank Wright (1867 1959), is an American architect born on June 8th in
Richland Center, Wisconsin (Biography.com n.d.). A modern design, he produced an organic and
clear American style (Architectural Digest n.d.). Wright founded his own firm and developed the
Prairie School single story homes with low, slanted roofs and extended rows on the windowpane,
using the available materials from local business and clean and not painted wood (The Editors of
Encyclopedia Britannica 2017). The Robie House (Figure 1) located in Chicago and Unity Temple
placed in Oak Park (Biography.com n.d.). Wright was known mainly in Europe but not in the
United States. In 1913, Wright designed his home on his maternal ancestors land in Spring Green,
Wisconsin (Architectural Digest n.d.). This home was named Taliesin, sadly it got burnt down
twice and he still remodeled it again (The Editors of Encyclopedia Britannica 2017). Wright wrote

literature (Biography.com n.d.). In addition, to publishing the two books, he

Evil And Dark Desires Of The Subconscious
In the play Othello by William Shakespeare, the audience encounters characters that are
manifestations of evil and dark desires of the subconscious. This theme is portrayed through the
characters of Iago and Othello. From the start, Iago s malicious intents are clear. Because of his
feelings of incompetence, particularly to Othello, he succumbs to very humanemotions like
jealousy. However, his proceeding actions seem to lack awareness and thought for others. Iago
manipulates Othello until he too becomes mad and overpowered by envy. Both characters are
immersed into their sinister roles because of accessible motives, but they experience fluxes of
instability that ultimately dehumanize their characters. At each of these transitions, the motif of
bestial and monstrous themes are present to mark the characters demise. The most effective
way of portraying a character s greatest fears is to make the audience see it themselves. By
doing so, the audience feels connected to the character and is subsequently more understanding
of his motives. Shakespeare uses bestial imagery early on in the play so that the audience may
see what lays in the subconscious of the characters. Iago is plotting against Cassio in Act 2, and
he reveals to the audience that his plan will cause Cassio, to be as full of quarrel and offense as
my young mistress dog. His desire for Cassio to be represented as rowdy animal indicates the
power reversal that Iago is scheming about. The disparity between

Example Of A Hero Of Brunhild
Sigurd is an example of a hero who follows a strong moral and ethical code. The most prominent
example of this occurs after he has rescued Brunhild from her castle for the second time while he
is disguised as his friend Gunnar. At this point in the story, Sigurd no longer remembers his love
for Brunhild because of a potion he was given. Therefore, he agrees to take the form of his friend
so Gunnar can marry Brunhild. Sigurd clearly cares very much about doing the right thing and
keeping the promise he made to Gunnar. In fact, Sigurd makes sure to place his sword between
him and Brunhild when they sleep together. It can be argued that Sigurd was willingly being
deceptive towards Brunhild, but this situation does show Sigurd s inner desire to be honorable by
helping others and fulfilling his promises. Additionally, when Sigurd is able recall the fact that he
loves Brunhild, it is his honor and recognition of the fact that she is someone else s wife that
prevents him from acting on his feelings. Bakaridjan Kone is another example of a hero who takes
pride in his moraland ethical code. He is even willing to die so that he may act in accordance with
it. In the myth, Bakaridjan Kone makes the imprudent decision to boast that I am so strong that

Events Leading up to World War I
March through April, 1914 in Germany there was an increasing agitation for war (cnparm). The

This brand name comes from the Latin form of thiape, a word that means fish in bГ©chouana an
African language. It includes three genera within cichlids: Oreochromis, Tilapia, and
Sarotherodon. They originate in Africa and Near or Middle East. The size varies between 5 and
50 centimeters. These fresh or brackish fishes water are bred and consumed widely in the world.
The first notes of the tilapia breeding go back to ancient Egypt 4,000 years ago, but its commercial

The Big Bang Theory And The Revolution Of A New Generation
The Big Bang Theory What exactly is the Big Bang Theory? I know before starting this essay I
knew very little of what it consisted. I figured that the Big Bang Theory had something to with the
era of a new generation. One in which started after the extinction of dinosaurs to be quite honest. As
I learn more about astronomy, this topic struck an interest and technically the big bangtheory isn t
something that occurred but rather something that happened. It started the beginning of what we
now call the universe.
When we ask astronomers what the big bang theory entails, it is simplified as the explanation on
how the universe started or began. The universe was not what it currently is today and in order to
understand our universe we have to obviously start from somewhere so why no start to the
beginning?
According to astronomers there is little known about how the universe was started but as far as we
know it started with a gravitational singularity. Singularities are believed to exist at the center of
black holes. The singularities then inflated over the next 13.8 billion years to what we see in the
sky today. It s hard to look back in time and see how the universe came about, but astronomers can
somewhat summarize the birth through mathematical theory and models of how the Big bang
theory came about. Although Astronomers weren t able to see how the universe came about, they
are able to see an expansion through a phenomenon known as the cosmic microwave background
which is

Analysis Of Water Liars By Barry Hannah
The short story Water Liars was written by Barry Hannah. Barry Hannah was an American
novelist and a short story writer. Hannah s greatest work and most known piece is Water Liars .
The short story revolves around a married man who would faces denial after finding out a secret
that his wife had kept from him. In Hannah s story Water Liars, the short storywould showcase the
married man s difficulty in facing accepting reality, and how the married man is a hypocrite and in
debt.
The narrator begins the story by the married man s difficulty in facing the reality that his wife
wasn t a virgin when he married her. The married man states Finally, it drove me crazy, and I
came out to Farte Cove to rest, under the pretense of fishing week with my chum Wyatt (Hannah,
63). The married man is going through a shock and it really drives him crazy because of the fact
that his wife wasn t a virgin. Then married man says the following lines I was driven wild by the
bodies that had trespassed her twelve and thirteen years ago (63). Those lines are really disturbing
because if I were in his shoes I wouldn t even want to think about her past and try to forget
everything that has happened. The married man keeps imagining her wife s past partners, which
should be the last thing on his mind.
As the story progressed, the married man imagines more about his wife, as he was telling Wyatt I
could see my wife in 1960 in the group of high schoolers she must have had. My jealousy went out

Louis Armstrong Song Analysis
Summary: Louis Armstrong singing is remarkable. I can understand why he inspired so many
people in the music industry. What I love about this album is his singing and his form in trumpet
playing. Listening to Armstrong voice, as well as his lyrics, flushes away my sorrow when I
listen to What a Wonderful World and Sittin in the Sun. These types of songs help me appreciate
what I have. Armstrong duet with Bing Cosby is adorable. Gone Fishin song has humor, in
addition, both man scats singing makes me smile. Armstrong and Cosby voices work well in
numerous levels together. When you Smile (The World Smile with you) is one of my favorites. I
can never get enough of this song. The way Armstrong plays his trumpet is truly tremendous the
timing of his trumpet playing with his notes is on point.

Acid Precipitation Essay example
Sitting in your room late at night, you listen to the gentle pittter patter of the rain on your
window. Ahh, so soothing and relaxing. Have you ever really wondered what the rain is really
made of? Is that just water or is it acid slowly streaming down out there? That rain you hear just
might be acid rain, it could change the way you live your life.
The commonly used terms acid rain and acid precipitation describe specific forms of a type of
pollution described generally as acid deposition. Harmful gases that rise into the air mix with cloud
moisture, sunlight, and oxidants. There they chemically combine into dilute sulfuric and nitric acids,
which fall back to the earth. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Each year the Sudbury plant gave off 1% of the entire world s sulfur dioxide emissions, including
both natural and human sources (Morgan, 24).
At a staggering 1,250 ft, quot;Superstack quot; is almost as tall as the Empire State Building. Its
main purpose was to act as a giant chimney to take all toxins higher into the atmosphere so that we
humans would not have to breathe them. The air quality around the smelter was much better and
plant life started growing back. The problem was, the sulfur dioxide was then blown whichever
the winds happened to be going. Most of the time those winds to the sulfur dioxide across state
borders and into Canada (Morgan, 27) Scientists then used satellite photography to trace the
weather patterns back to where the sulfur dioxide originated. The acid falling back down to earth,
whether it is in dry or wet form has drastic consequences for many.
A rainstorm occurs in a forest. The summer rains wash the leaves of the branches and fall to the
forest floor below. Some of the water is absorbed into the soil while other water run off enters
nearby streams, rivers, or lakes. When acid rain is absorbed into the ground, it slowly poisons the
tree by being absorbed through the roots. Acidic rainwater also dissolves the nutrients and minerals
that the plants need from the soil. When acid rain is frequent, leaves tend to lose their protective
waxy coating.

Natural and Sexual Selection of Vestigial and Wild Type...
Natural and Sexual Selection of Vestigial and Wild Type Drosophila melanogaster
Abstract
In this experiment, vestigial flies as well as wild type flies were used to create some diversity as
well as test one of our hypotheses. Our hypotheses are as follows; 1) The wild type flies will
have a greater relative fitness compared to the vestigial flies based on only sexual selection. The
wild type has a relative fitness of 1 since it has fully functional wings. Vestigial Winged flies are
not as sexually appealing since their wings are not functional and the wing movement is a vital part
of their mating ritual. 2) The vestigial fly will have a greater relative fitness when considering both
sexual and natural selection. With the presence of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
With the presence of natural selection (fly paper hanging from top of cage) posing a larger threat
to the wild flies b/c they can fly better, this will allow vestigial flies to prosper better.
Materials and Methods
To set up this experiment, two twenty five gallon aquariums, 3 petri dishes, 200 flies, rotten
bananas, and yeast were used. The bananas chosen to be an accelerant for the growth of the yeast
and were frozen so they would be easier to cut. The yeast was used because the drosophila
melanogaster prefer this as a food source. The vestigial and wild type flies were sexed (to
determine their sex), sorted, and counted. An initial population size of 100 total flies was
decided so that it would be easier to determine the phenotypic percentage of the total population.
Fly paper was placed in one of the sets of cages to impose a method of natural selection as well as
the sexual selection which is being solely tested by the other set of cages.
It was decided that there would be 80 vestigial flies and 20 wild type flies to total to an initial
population of 100 drosophila. Next, the flies were anesthetized flies using Fly Nap. The flies were
counted out to reach desired ratio, sexing the flies making sure there are equal amounts of males
and females to be sure there is ample individuals to allow successful mating. The fly s food was
prepared by taking a frozen rotten banana, cutting it in half, mashing up the banana meat, and
mixing yeast into it. The

Helping the Housing Industry Essays
Helping the Housing Industry In the current state of the economy, one thing is sure to either help
it bounce back or keep it in the basement, and that is the housing industry. It is very hard to drive
anywhere and not see a for sale sign or two sitting in front yards. People have lost jobs or been cut
back, and therefore driven out of their homes they once loved for something cheaper that they can
afford. Not only did this hurt each individual family, it hurt the economy as a whole. People who
still have their houses and can afford them are losing money on them because the value of their
houses has dropped due to the other houses in their neighborhood sitting empty. There are many
different ways that could possibly help this... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Another problem with stopping the building of new houses would be that a lot of companies,
businesses, cities, states, etc., have all ready budgeted the money for these housing projects.
They set aside money years ago in preparation for these projects and have them locked into a
commitment to do these houses. My solution for both is the same, put everything into the old
houses. I understand that legal contracts may have been built up, and since I am not a lawyer, I
am not going to pretend that I know that there is a way to get out of them or anything along
those lines, but at least try. You also can not stop building where you have all ready broke
ground. But, for those that may not have the contracts solidified yet, or have not broke ground,
but have the money budgeted for the project, the solution is simple, change where that money
goes. Budgets are changed all the time. I am a teacher and our budgets have been changed
plenty in the past year along with our salaries, so I know it can be done. Take that money and put
it into the houses that all ready exist. A lot of people are vandalizing and destroying these
properties. Some destroy them while they are moving out because they are frustrated that they
have been foreclosed on. Others are houses that have been destroyed by locals who see these
houses as another open place to graffiti, break things, or steal stuff from. Most of those who left the
houses also did

Comparing The Ways Writer Present Doubts, Uncertainties...
Controlled Assessment Alby Joseph
Compare the ways writer present doubts, uncertainties and conflict in the minds of the characters.
Poems are the most simplistic way to express one s feelings and beliefs through writing. Poets
mostly try express love, loss, death, some may speak from their own experience or for the sake of
their characters who tend to be quite sophisticated. They tend to write about these 3 topics
commonly due to the fact that practically everyone has experienced this sort of emotion. Poetry has
existed since man could write, to Aristotle, to Victorian times and now to the present day where it
is internationally used. Poems are now used to promote movements for the benefit of the world,
varying from poverty to the sustainability of the environment; of which most have been
successful due to poetry being able to connect with the reader, even if they are not in the same
situation. However they are still able to feel what their character is feeling and what state of mind
they are in. Poems also tend to be short so that the reader does not loose concentration nor loose the
power of the poem, but instead the poet chooses to write to a short limithowever they choose their
words carefully so that the reader will be intrigued and contemplated the whole way through the
poem however leave the poembeing fascinated.

The Topic Of Fate Of Ancient Greece During The Golden Age
The Topic of Fate in Ancient Greece During the Golden Age
The Golden Age of Athens started with the final defeat of Persia in 479 B.C. and the formation
of the Delian League in 478 B.C. With the defeat of Persia came a period of prosperity for
Athens, a time of great political advancements and many reforms to daily life. Around 461 B.C., a
former general named Perikles became the dominant politician of Athens. During his reign (461 429
B.C.) he made Athens a strong and imperialistic city state, one that forced their allies to remain in
the Delian League. Sparta, who had left the league shortly after the defeat of the Persians, had
created their own league, the Peloponnesian League. The two leagues signed the Thirty Years
Treaty, which stated that the two leagues may not fight for thirty years. Athens went against the
treaty by helping a city state who was in the other league. Athens and Sparta declare war against
one another shortly after. Homer s Illiad and Sophocles Oedipus Tyrannos had an effect on the
citizens of Athens in the respect of fate. In both classics, fate is considered unavoidable and
ultimately inevitable. The topic of fate during this time is an important topic to Athenians because
they fear that a battle against the Peloponnesian League is inevitable, just like Achilles fate to die in
Troy, or Oedipus fate to kill his father and marry his mother. In the Athenian perspective, fate is
written in stone, and what is fated will happen.

  • 2. Examples Of Prejudices In Cathedral Samantha Langert Professor Jereb English G110 18 September 2017 Prejudices in Cathedral Prejudice comes in all forms; whether it is due to someone s skin color, religion, or disability, fear of someone who is different than what you view as normal is apparent all around us. Miriam Webster defines Prejudiceas injury or damage resulting from some judgment or action of another in disregard to one s rights . Although most people tend to associate prejudice with racism, that is not always the case. In quite a few instances of everyday life, it is hate towards another person you consider to be inferior and not normal. Prejudice implies a closed point of view, one that is not open to differences and a prejudgment of a group of people you ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The Narrator s thoughts show us that he holds onto these prejudgements of blind people, believing they have both physical and mental incapabilities, and has not made a point to try and fix this perspective. The Narrator also feels he has an inherent superiority to Robert because of this, placing a self centered twist onto everything. For all of the Narrators prejudice towards others, he is more than happy to not place any of his critical and judgemental focus on himself. It is shown in glimpses of the story how the Narrator dictates his world by only what he can actually see, placing a limitation on himself that Robert does not have. It was beyond my understanding. Hearing this, I felt sorry for the blind man for a little bit. And then I found myself thinking what a pitiful life this woman must have led (139). The Narrator lacks what can be perceived as a sight into both his own, and others, emotions. It is further on that we come to realize how much the Narrator relies on his vision, thinking that Robert s wife, Beulah, could have worn anything she wanted to, not because she felt like it, but because no one could appreciate how she beautiful or ugly she looks. Although the Narrator can obviously see, he does not realize the restrictions he placed upon himself and how those restrictions prevented him from wanting or doing anything greater with his own ... • 3. Similarities And Differences Between The Southern And... In the late 1700 s, dozens of historians learned about events and forces that drove many colonial people to an armed rebellion. Among the patriots and economic determinists, fundamental agreement prevails, and the immediate cause is The American Revolution. Although the people of the colonies all lived in the same country, there were many similarities and differences between the southern and northern colonies, such as religion, economics, politics and governments. During the Revolution, there were thirteen different colonies, and when talked about they were divided into three different geographical locations, northern, middle and southern. The Northern region, also known as, the New England colonies, consisted of Rhode Island, Connecticut, Massachusetts, and New Hampshire. The Southern colonies consisted of Maryland, Virginia, the Carolinas, and Georgia. In the old colonial system a colony was to be a colony in the most obvious sense of the word: a perpetually subordinate agricultural and extractive area that served the mother country as a source of raw materials, a safety valve for excess or unwanted population, and a market for finished goods. During the seventeenth and eighteenth century, mercantilism played a major role throughout the colonies. Mercantilism is a economic theory that enabled the government to regulate the economy for the purpose of building up the rival nations economic power. Dreams are a reoccurring theme. Dreams are connected to the unexplainable and mysterious events, occurring in the woods. A Midsummer Night s Dream can be compared to The Tempest , also written by Shakespeare, because it contains the same theme of dreams That, if I then had waked after long sleep, / Will make me sleep again: and then, in dreaming (3.2. 139 140, Caliban) Contrast of appearances verses reality is a common motif throughout the play. Presently, in this post industrial society, many analysts believe that social strata in many parts of the world have led to the emergence of consumer society (Smart, B 2014). Reasons for this are because individuals are being portrayed as having a wide range of choiceas they are being presented with a wide range of products and services. As Ellis at al. (2012) notes, privatization of production and distribution of goods and services have expanded the way consumers can access them, and therefore, there are increased consumer choices. However, there are arguments that in some cases, consumers have not been provided with adequate positions to exercise their true choices on goods and services and therefore, which is leading them to make passive choices in regards their process of consumption. Some arguments assert that consumers are becoming more and more actively involved in their buying and consumption processes, especially in this age when people are more enlightened. Arguments for Active and Passive Consumption The Concept of Number of Options Iyengar and Leper (2000) state, that current psychological theories confirm that individuals become motivated when making choices individually. Instead of moving away from his homosexual subject matter altogether, Warhol found other less direct ways of including it in his work. 13 Most Wanted Men was commissioned to be displayed at the 1964 1965 New York World s fair, but it was painted over within days of its debut in what some have described as quite literally white washing the work. Warhol printed large images of criminals side by side who were suspected of being part of the Mafia; the images he gathered were from a booklet that was released by the NYPD s Commissioner a few months prior to the fair s opening day. The piece was 20 x20 and done entirely in black and white. Discuss with reference to the UK. Health care services are medical and remedial care or service provided to the population of a nation. Health care services can be provided by the state or left to privatization to provide. It is crucial for all to have access to health care services, as it is a basic human right. In the UK, the National Health Services is a publicly funded health care system. The NHS is financed directly through taxation and so is freely available to citizens. Although the market could provide these services, it can be argued that the state should as it allows wider access, can positively impact the labour force and increase economic growth and development. The most convincing justification for government intervention in healthcare services is probably that affordable, timely and quality healthcare is a basic and crucial human right (http:/ /www.who.int/mediacentre/factsheets/fs323/en/). This theme is portrayed through the characters of Iago and Othello. From the start, Iago s malicious intents are clear. Because of his feelings of incompetence, particularly to Othello, he succumbs to very humanemotions like jealousy. However, his proceeding actions seem to lack awareness and thought for others. Iago manipulates Othello until he too becomes mad and overpowered by envy. Both characters are immersed into their sinister roles because of accessible motives, but they experience fluxes of instability that ultimately dehumanize their characters. At each of these transitions, the motif of bestial and monstrous themes are present to mark the characters demise. The most effective way of portraying a character s greatest fears is to make the audience see it themselves. By doing so, the audience feels connected to the character and is subsequently more understanding of his motives. Shakespeare uses bestial imagery early on in the play so that the audience may see what lays in the subconscious of the characters. Iago is plotting against Cassio in Act 2, and he reveals to the audience that his plan will cause Cassio, to be as full of quarrel and offense as my young mistress dog. In April, the influential Pan German League warns that France and Russia are preparing for the decisive struggle with Germany and Austria Hungary and they intend to strike at the first opportunity (cnparm). When May arrives, the last pre war staff talks take place between German Chief of Staff Helmuth von Moltke and the Austro Hungarian General Chief of Staff Franz Baron Conrad von Hoetzendorf, both decided the commanders both desire a preventive war (cnparm). The events of July and early August 1914 played a very important role in the possibility of a world war, and Germany played an important role in these events. Imperialism, with Wilhelmine Weltpolitik as its specifically German version, provided the general framework and the basic tensions; the principle of national self determination constituted, with its revolutionary potential, a permanent but latent threat ti the old dynastic Empires and built up tensions in south east Europe (July1914). The determination of the German Empire, then the most powerful conservative and monarchic principles by any means against the rising flood of democracy, plus its Weltpolitik, made war inevitable (July 1914). The July Crisis of 1914 was a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 43. The Big Bang Theory And The Revolution Of A New Generation The Big Bang Theory What exactly is the Big Bang Theory? I know before starting this essay I knew very little of what it consisted. I figured that the Big Bang Theory had something to with the era of a new generation. One in which started after the extinction of dinosaurs to be quite honest. As I learn more about astronomy, this topic struck an interest and technically the big bangtheory isn t something that occurred but rather something that happened. It started the beginning of what we now call the universe. When we ask astronomers what the big bang theory entails, it is simplified as the explanation on how the universe started or began. The universe was not what it currently is today and in order to understand our universe we have to obviously start from somewhere so why no start to the beginning? According to astronomers there is little known about how the universe was started but as far as we know it started with a gravitational singularity. Singularities are believed to exist at the center of black holes. The singularities then inflated over the next 13.8 billion years to what we see in the sky today. It s hard to look back in time and see how the universe came about, but astronomers can somewhat summarize the birth through mathematical theory and models of how the Big bang theory came about. Although Astronomers weren t able to see how the universe came about, they are able to see an expansion through a phenomenon known as the cosmic microwave background which is ... The married man is going through a shock and it really drives him crazy because of the fact that his wife wasn t a virgin. Then married man says the following lines I was driven wild by the bodies that had trespassed her twelve and thirteen years ago (63). Those lines are really disturbing because if I were in his shoes I wouldn t even want to think about her past and try to forget everything that has happened. The married man keeps imagining her wife s past partners, which should be the last thing on his mind. As the story progressed, the married man imagines more about his wife, as he was telling Wyatt I could see my wife in 1960 in the group of high schoolers she must have had. My jealousy went out ... • 45. Louis Armstrong Song Analysis Summary: Louis Armstrong singing is remarkable. I can understand why he inspired so many people in the music industry. What I love about this album is his singing and his form in trumpet playing. Listening to Armstrong voice, as well as his lyrics, flushes away my sorrow when I listen to What a Wonderful World and Sittin in the Sun. These types of songs help me appreciate what I have. Armstrong duet with Bing Cosby is adorable. Gone Fishin song has humor, in addition, both man scats singing makes me smile. Armstrong and Cosby voices work well in numerous levels together. When you Smile (The World Smile with you) is one of my favorites. I can never get enough of this song. The way Armstrong plays his trumpet is truly tremendous the timing of his trumpet playing with his notes is on point. 2. • 46. Acid Precipitation Essay example Sitting in your room late at night, you listen to the gentle pittter patter of the rain on your window. Ahh, so soothing and relaxing. Have you ever really wondered what the rain is really made of? Is that just water or is it acid slowly streaming down out there? That rain you hear just might be acid rain, it could change the way you live your life. The commonly used terms acid rain and acid precipitation describe specific forms of a type of pollution described generally as acid deposition. Harmful gases that rise into the air mix with cloud moisture, sunlight, and oxidants. There they chemically combine into dilute sulfuric and nitric acids, which fall back to the earth. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Each year the Sudbury plant gave off 1% of the entire world s sulfur dioxide emissions, including both natural and human sources (Morgan, 24). At a staggering 1,250 ft, quot;Superstack quot; is almost as tall as the Empire State Building. Its main purpose was to act as a giant chimney to take all toxins higher into the atmosphere so that we humans would not have to breathe them. The air quality around the smelter was much better and plant life started growing back. The problem was, the sulfur dioxide was then blown whichever the winds happened to be going. Most of the time those winds to the sulfur dioxide across state borders and into Canada (Morgan, 27) Scientists then used satellite photography to trace the weather patterns back to where the sulfur dioxide originated. The acid falling back down to earth, whether it is in dry or wet form has drastic consequences for many. A rainstorm occurs in a forest. The summer rains wash the leaves of the branches and fall to the forest floor below. Some of the water is absorbed into the soil while other water run off enters nearby streams, rivers, or lakes. When acid rain is absorbed into the ground, it slowly poisons the tree by being absorbed through the roots. Acidic rainwater also dissolves the nutrients and minerals that the plants need from the soil. When acid rain is frequent, leaves tend to lose their protective waxy coating. ... • 47. Natural and Sexual Selection of Vestigial and Wild Type... Natural and Sexual Selection of Vestigial and Wild Type Drosophila melanogaster Abstract In this experiment, vestigial flies as well as wild type flies were used to create some diversity as well as test one of our hypotheses. Our hypotheses are as follows; 1) The wild type flies will have a greater relative fitness compared to the vestigial flies based on only sexual selection. The wild type has a relative fitness of 1 since it has fully functional wings. Vestigial Winged flies are not as sexually appealing since their wings are not functional and the wing movement is a vital part of their mating ritual. 2) The vestigial fly will have a greater relative fitness when considering both sexual and natural selection. With the presence of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... With the presence of natural selection (fly paper hanging from top of cage) posing a larger threat to the wild flies b/c they can fly better, this will allow vestigial flies to prosper better. Materials and Methods To set up this experiment, two twenty five gallon aquariums, 3 petri dishes, 200 flies, rotten bananas, and yeast were used. The bananas chosen to be an accelerant for the growth of the yeast and were frozen so they would be easier to cut. The yeast was used because the drosophila melanogaster prefer this as a food source. The vestigial and wild type flies were sexed (to determine their sex), sorted, and counted. An initial population size of 100 total flies was decided so that it would be easier to determine the phenotypic percentage of the total population. Fly paper was placed in one of the sets of cages to impose a method of natural selection as well as the sexual selection which is being solely tested by the other set of cages. It was decided that there would be 80 vestigial flies and 20 wild type flies to total to an initial population of 100 drosophila. Next, the flies were anesthetized flies using Fly Nap. The flies were counted out to reach desired ratio, sexing the flies making sure there are equal amounts of males and females to be sure there is ample individuals to allow successful mating. The fly s food was prepared by taking a frozen rotten banana, cutting it in half, mashing up the banana meat, and mixing yeast into it. The ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 48. Helping the Housing Industry Essays Helping the Housing Industry In the current state of the economy, one thing is sure to either help it bounce back or keep it in the basement, and that is the housing industry. It is very hard to drive anywhere and not see a for sale sign or two sitting in front yards. People have lost jobs or been cut back, and therefore driven out of their homes they once loved for something cheaper that they can afford. Not only did this hurt each individual family, it hurt the economy as a whole. People who still have their houses and can afford them are losing money on them because the value of their houses has dropped due to the other houses in their neighborhood sitting empty. There are many different ways that could possibly help this... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Another problem with stopping the building of new houses would be that a lot of companies, businesses, cities, states, etc., have all ready budgeted the money for these housing projects. They set aside money years ago in preparation for these projects and have them locked into a commitment to do these houses. My solution for both is the same, put everything into the old houses. I understand that legal contracts may have been built up, and since I am not a lawyer, I am not going to pretend that I know that there is a way to get out of them or anything along those lines, but at least try. You also can not stop building where you have all ready broke ground. But, for those that may not have the contracts solidified yet, or have not broke ground, but have the money budgeted for the project, the solution is simple, change where that money goes. Budgets are changed all the time. I am a teacher and our budgets have been changed plenty in the past year along with our salaries, so I know it can be done. Take that money and put it into the houses that all ready exist. A lot of people are vandalizing and destroying these properties. Some destroy them while they are moving out because they are frustrated that they have been foreclosed on. Others are houses that have been destroyed by locals who see these houses as another open place to graffiti, break things, or steal stuff from. Most of those who left the houses also did ... • 49. Comparing The Ways Writer Present Doubts, Uncertainties... Controlled Assessment Alby Joseph Compare the ways writer present doubts, uncertainties and conflict in the minds of the characters. Poems are the most simplistic way to express one s feelings and beliefs through writing. Poets mostly try express love, loss, death, some may speak from their own experience or for the sake of their characters who tend to be quite sophisticated. They tend to write about these 3 topics commonly due to the fact that practically everyone has experienced this sort of emotion. Poetry has existed since man could write, to Aristotle, to Victorian times and now to the present day where it is internationally used. Poems are now used to promote movements for the benefit of the world, varying from poverty to the sustainability of the environment; of which most have been successful due to poetry being able to connect with the reader, even if they are not in the same situation. However they are still able to feel what their character is feeling and what state of mind they are in. Poems also tend to be short so that the reader does not loose concentration nor loose the power of the poem, but instead the poet chooses to write to a short limithowever they choose their words carefully so that the reader will be intrigued and contemplated the whole way through the poem however leave the poembeing fascinated. • 50. The Topic Of Fate Of Ancient Greece During The Golden Age The Topic of Fate in Ancient Greece During the Golden Age The Golden Age of Athens started with the final defeat of Persia in 479 B.C. and the formation of the Delian League in 478 B.C. With the defeat of Persia came a period of prosperity for Athens, a time of great political advancements and many reforms to daily life. Around 461 B.C., a former general named Perikles became the dominant politician of Athens. During his reign (461 429 B.C.) he made Athens a strong and imperialistic city state, one that forced their allies to remain in the Delian League. Sparta, who had left the league shortly after the defeat of the Persians, had created their own league, the Peloponnesian League. The two leagues signed the Thirty Years Treaty, which stated that the two leagues may not fight for thirty years. Athens went against the treaty by helping a city state who was in the other league. Athens and Sparta declare war against one another shortly after. Homer s Illiad and Sophocles Oedipus Tyrannos had an effect on the citizens of Athens in the respect of fate. In both classics, fate is considered unavoidable and ultimately inevitable. The topic of fate during this time is an important topic to Athenians because they fear that a battle against the Peloponnesian League is inevitable, just like Achilles fate to die in Troy, or Oedipus fate to kill his father and marry his mother. In the Athenian perspective, fate is written in stone, and what is fated will happen. In Homer s ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
