The World Is Not Short On Food
The causes of poverty are very complex and there isn t just one single solution to fix it. However, the
problems could generally be reduced by equal distribution of the basic resources such as water, food
and land. These basic human needs can be met by doing simple suggesting such as having the country
invests in seeds, irrigation and tools for people to grow and harvest foods. Fixing the education
systems and meeting the needs of local communities that can t afford to go to school providing the
knowledge. Providing advice and marketing encouragement to those countries that want to improve
and be involved. With such basic skills and knowledge a country would be about to provide the basic
needs for its own people. The world is not short on food. Many of the developed countries have
enough of it, but people in the third world countries are suffering because they are unable to gain the
access to the food, water and land or unfortunately can t afford to purchase it or make it.
Economist, Jeffery Sachs has observed the water crisis in Africa have developed what they call the
water poverty trap. Sachs says that the developed crisis is unique not because it s the poorest region in
the world but because it s the only major region that has a negative growth in the income per capita in
his study he conducted. Its correlates with the poverty of the region and the lack of water that leads to
the loss of food, the cause of many deadly diseases and unfinished education; Most people

Ophiuchus Research Paper
My favorite constellation is the Ophiuchus (also known by its Latin name Serpentarius). It lies in the
northern sky and is, in fact, the 11th largest constellation. It belongs to the Hercules family of
constellation and contains seven Messier objects and a number of notable stars. It is my favorite
because of the myth associated with it, which I learned during a camping trip from a classmate who
wanted to explore the outer space and knew much about the stars. Years later, that campfire story is
one of my most vivid memories.
Translated from Greek, Ophiuchus means snake bearer (from the root όφις [ophis] snake ) and is
associated with the myth of Asclepius, who had healing powers so powerful, that he was said to have
the ability to bring the dead back to life. Asclepius was ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The wise centaur took away Ascleptius from the village and raised him in the wilderness of the forest,
teaching him the ways of magic and hunting. Years later, when wandering in the forest, Ascleptius was
confronted by a snake and, astonishingly, found that he could speak with the reptile. Fascinated by his
newfound ability, Ascleptius convinced Chiron to let him wander the world. Together with his reptile
companion, Ascleptius travelled and refined his healing skills by using Parselmagick, bringing the
wounded back from the brink of death.
The rumours of a miracle healer, who brought people back to life and travelled with his faithful fiend
the Serpent, spread and reached the ears of the wizards. The highly superstitious and paranoid wizards
took the exaggerated stories to be true and interpreted Asclepius as being a Parseltounge Necromancer
a practitioner of the darkest magic. Filled with self righteousness, they devised a man hunt to rid the
world of the perceived Dark wizard and managed to catch Ascleptius unawares, killing him and the

Ratio Analysis of Boeing
The Boeing Company operates in the industry of aerospace and defense. The largest aerospace
company, Boeing is the #2 maker of large commercial jets (behind rival Airbus) and the #2 defense
contractor behind Lockheed Martin. The aerospace and defense industry did suffer the effects of a post
9/11 society. Because of the weakened and fearful tourism market, spending on commercial aircraft
did decrease. But recently, revenues have improved considerably as travelers are becoming more
comfortable with flying again. Defense expenditures are the leading source of revenue for the US
industry. Boeing, despite aerospace spending decreasing, has profited from projects such as the missile

Also, the dividend yield is a very important measure of profitability to investors. The dividend yield
measure shows the rate of return to common stockholders in terms of cash dividends.
The Boeing Company performs very well in terms of ratios. Boeing s earnings per share on common
stock is 2.81. Also, Boeing s price earnings ratio is 33.31 and their dividend yield is 1.4%. Boeing s
stock is currently selling at 93.67. Boeing looks to be a pretty steady stock, as analysts are predicting
that its mean target is 99.83 and its low target is 70, while the high target is 114.
Boeing is a global company, considering it has customers in over 90 countries around the world and is
one of the largest U.S. exporters based on sales. It also has employees in 70 of the countries that it
deals with. Boeing is in a bit of a tough spot with outsourcing considering that they deal with
government defense contracts. They are taking large bounds to really work with their global partners.
Instead of just outsourcing call sources or manufacturing, they are actually outsourcing engineering
and design positions as well. One of Boeing s executives really summed up their goal quite well with
this quote, One of the things we have found [is that] it s best to have the people building the parts

Literature Review On Social Media
INTRODUCTION
Social media in today s sociality has become our primary means of communicating. It has also
become the most inexpensive way to market and promote argues Chu Du (2017). More studies argue
that social media has simplified the way to connect to students, and offers the quickest way to for
universities and colleges to spread information to students (Chu Du, 2013). Che Du (2013) also argues
that social media is catching on within academic libraries around the globe. Their research showed
that 71.1% of academic libraries were already using social media to connect and engage with students
(Chu Du, 2013). While Stvilla Gibradze (2017) agrees, they also state how important it is for
librarians to stay updated with the latest trends of social media to connect with students. While
connecting with students is a very important in marketing events, it s just as important to ensure these
events are marketable to students, that spark interest. (Andrews, 2014).
In this research paper, I will further explore academic library events and the influence that social
media has on these events. Interest on this research started from Bodnar Mathews (2008) article on
relationships between school newspapers and their academic libraries. From the finding in their
research, they found that 25% of articles that mentioned the library were about library events and
displays (Bodnar Mathews, 2008). From this information, I further explore the 25% of library events,

The lesson plan lists the vocabulary words and objectives needed to complete the lesson. Because
there are insufficient SEI strategies, the instructor uses a graphic organizer such as four corners, which

Karl Popper and Thomas Kuhn 2
Popper and Kuhn: Two Views of Science In this essay I attempt to answer the following two
questions: What is Karl Popper s view of science? Do I feel that Thomas Kuhn makes important
points against it? The two articles that I make reference to are Science: Conjectures and Refutations by
Karl Popper and Logic of Discovery or Psychology of Research? by Thomas Kuhn. Both articles
appear in the textbook to this class. In the article, Science: Conjectures and Refutations , Karl Popper
attempts to describe the criteria that a theory must meet for it to be considered scientific. He calls this
puzzle the problem of demarcation. Popper summarizes his arguments by saying, the criterion of the
scientific status of a theory is its ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Kuhn refutes this point by claiming that Popper s assertion that astrologers escape falsification by
explaining away any possible refutations is impossible to support. Kuhn uses the example of reputable
records that indicate many instances where astrology categorically failed. Astrology is a very complex
science (or non science, depending on your opinion). Measuring the planets and the stars is hard, and
in the days when astrology was more popular, the tools for measuring were crude. In addition, few
people knew exactly when they were born, a crucial detail needed to perform accurate astrology. Kuhn
agrees with Popper in stating that astrology is not a science, but they differ in their reasons. Kuhn
main problem with astrology is that the failures of astrology do not give rise to research puzzles. He
thinks that when a scientific theory fails to explain a phenomenon, there is a new puzzle for scientists
to study, learn, and grow from. In astrology, nothing is learned from mistakes. There is no effort to
change the theory to explain why it failed or adopt a new theory. Popper emphasizes the importance of
testing when it comes to new theories replacing old ones. Kuhn takes particular offense to this
statement. He argues that if one looks at how science is actually done, not how Popper thinks it should
be done, it will be clear that many new theories were adopted before they had been tested. Kuhn uses
the example of Copernicus theory being adopted over

The Tax Falls On The Survivors
The estate tax is unique in that it is payable one time and only after the grantor is gone. The effect of
the tax falls on the survivors and is not a burden while the grantor is alive. The IRS Code prevision
allows a federal estate tax marital deduction, which is when a person transfers property at death to his
or her surviving spouse free of federal estate tax. The deduction is available when property passes to
the surviving spouse either as an outright gift in the Will or when property is left in a marital trust as a
benefit for the surviving spouse. It is considered by many to be the most important estate tax saving
device available. The following provides a depiction of the history of the estate tax in the US as well

The War Revenue Act of 1898 was repealed in 1903, one year after the end of the Spanish American
War, but in that short amount of time the tax raised about $14.1 million (Jacobson, Raub, Johnson,
2007).
In the early 20th century, after worldwide conflict cut into trade tariffs, Congress turned to another
revenue source: The Revenue Act of 1916. This Act introduced the income tax system used today and
also included an estate tax with similar features of today s system. Residents received an exemption of
$50,000 with tax rates starting at one percent and climbing to 10 percent on estates over $5 million
(Jacobson, Raub, Johnson, 2007). As the US entered World War I in 1917, estate taxes were increased.
Unlike the previous Acts, the Act of 1916 was not repealed after the war ended, but instead the laws
surrounding the estate tax framework shifted immensely over the next century.
History of the Unlimited Marital Deduction
At this point in history no provision for a marital deduction had been made and as a result, residents of
community property states were at an advantage over residents of common law states. In community
property states, marital estates were split in half to create a low overall tax burden. It was not until
1948 that the estate tax code was amended to reduce these tax

Socrates Tragedy
An Innocent Tragedy
The trial of Socrates is well known throughout the modern world. It is a historical event that ties
together philosophy, literature, and law. However, do we stop to consider whether or not Socrates was
truly guilty of the crimes he was accused with. I believe Socrates was innocent on all charges, since he
sufficiently proved that he did believe in the gods and was not corrupting the youth. One of the
accusations brought against Socrates is he disregards the gods of the state, instead teaching purely
physical explanations for heavenly and earthly phenomena, which are typically explained by the
doings of the gods. Socrates refutes this claim by stating that he has no knowledge in the field of
scientific explanations. This is pre Socratic philosophy, which Socrates states he has never taught. He
asks the jury Tell one another, then, whether any of you has ever heard me discussing such subjects,
either briefly or at length; and as a result you will realize that the other things said about me are
equally baseless. (Pojman 37) Socrates goes on to rebut the first part of the accusation by explaining
that while he does not necessarily believe in the gods of the state, he does believe in a higher god.
Socrates argues that he cannot believe in one god without believing in other gods as well. So, although
he may not directly believe in the gods of the state, he acknowledges the fact that such gods must
exist. He points out the paradox in his accusers statement

Essay about Lessons of the Triangle Shirtwaist Fire of 1911
The sheer physical nature of fire is to consume all fuel that lay in its path. That is exactly what
happened in the Triangle Shirtwaist Fire of 1911. The building itself was reported to be fire proof, but
what about its contents? The amount of unused cotton and other fabric scraps that were piled up were
ample amounts of fuel just waiting to be consumed by a spark. The business owners kept what little
exits and escape routes the building had locked for fear of a thieving employee. The employees mostly
took the elevators up and down the building, limiting their knowledge of possible escape routes. Given
those three factors combined, it was only a matter of time before disaster would strike. The fire started
and quickly cut off ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
(Von Drehle, 2003) The greatest lesson learned from this tragedy was the need for planned fire drills
and accessible fire escapes. If the employers would have made it mandatory that all employees
become familiar with the buildings layout, practice fire drills and know their closest fire escape, it
would have aided the employees in the hour of despair. The biggest cause for death in this fire was a
result of poor pre fire planning. The building may be fire proof, but the people and contents inside are
not. The Triangle tragedy opened many people s eyes. The realities of a disaster happening anywhere,
at anytime, were real and people needed to prepare. Many investigations were launched surrounding
the Triangle fire. Commissions formed that later gave out rulings and findings. Even the Ladies
Garment Workers Union became involved, trying to get standards and codes passed that would ensure
the safety of workers in the workplace. It took many years for the commissions and unions to get the
changes implemented. Today, regardless of OSHA enforcement, there are still workplaces with locked
or blocked emergency exits. Due to the lesson that was learned in the Triangle fire, we now have
organizations like OSHA, NFPA, state and local municipals that make code and enforce standards.
Their goal is to ensure the safety of lives and property by enforcing the codes and standards of all
workplaces

Hornpipe Dance History
The hornpipe is a musical instrument and dance from the fifteen century , it has inspired many

Polka is used as the first movements since the decks were pretty small they used this movement to
make room for the next steps. Arms fold is a technique that was created from the way soldiers would
carry their clean laundry. Since their hands were always filled with tar and dirt they would fold their
arms and hide the palms inside to keep the laundry clean. Cable Haul, this movement was used to pull
cable back and forth. Look Out by the name I am sure you can guess what kind of gesture you would
make. It is the same as if you were looking for attackers, you look outwards and put your hand up to
shade your eyes from the sun. The Pump technique uses a lot of bold movements with your arms, as
though your pumping a tire with air. When doing the move called hoisting the sail you need to
imagine yourself as a sailor literally hoisting the sail, you have to show the strength needed to hoist
the ropes after a long day at sea. All of these moves are used on a daily basis for sailors so I am
assuming it is a lot easier for them to perform the proper steps. Hornpipes can often be mixed up with
a few other types of dance for instance the jig is the most commonly mistaken for a hornpipe. Another
dance that is often confused with it is schottische both dances have a hippy hop to them and the tune is
very similar. There are many dances and instruments that can be confused with

Compare And Contrast Qin And Han Dynasties
The Qin and Han dynasties changed many things regarding how China was governed. An example
would be standardizing the units of measurement, currency, and the width of roads which Qin Shi
Huang did to ease trade within his country, his choices strengthened the unity between areas under his
command. Another change is the Han dynasty s usage of education. Han rulers permit all boys to
receive an education to a certain extent, however, if they wanted to further their education more; they
would have to travel to the capital. One of the several changes Qin Shi Huang changed how dictators

Natural Philosophers And Religion
Natural Philosophers and Religion
In the modern period, we tend to think of science and religion as being diametrically opposed.
However, the study of science and nature, attempts to confirm the existence of God as portrayed by
various natural philosophers. This paper will discuss in detail how some of the ancient natural
philosophers used physics, chemistry (and alchemy), and biology to understand the rational design of
the world, and hence used science to prove the existence of God.
Aristotle in his history of animals uses his biological philosophy about the change to demonstrate the
existence of a Supreme Being who is immaterial. Aristotle believed that change was a natural

was describing none other than God s laws and considered himself a good Catholic.
Robert Hook uses the principle of clock metaphors sometimes in many contexts of the mechanical
philosophy. Hook compared the theory of natural philosophy with that of the clock maker and used the
parts of a watch to demonstrate the relationship in the cause and effect in science with that of the parts
of a watch. Hook therefore, not only used this principle to illustrate the existence of God, but also his

The Rhetoric Of The Cuban Revolution
These last few lines are interesting for various reasons. First, it is a fine example of a message that
Castro often employs which is the sacrifice of the individual in favor of the betterment of the country
as a whole (Valdés 31). Part of the way to gain the people s support was to obtain Legitimacy derived
from service, not self interest (Valdés 31). Castro makes himself sound like a martyr as he talks about
the torture and belittlement he says he will endure while imprisoned. The historical experiences not
only led to this idea of painting self interest as bad, but also led to a way of legitimizing actions. The
last famous last line in which the title comes from actually was paraphrase of a quote given by José

It is a common criticism of the theory because many see it as not concerning itself enough with Latin
American countries. An example of this would be how the writers of The Empire Writes Back
identified countries who were seen as postcolonial when they wrote, So the literatures of African
countries, Australia, Bangladesh, Canada, Caribbean countries, India, Malaysia, Malta, New Zealand,
Pakistan, Singapore, South Pacific Island countries, and Sri Lanka are all postcolonial literatures.
(Ashcroft, Griffiths, Tiffin 2). Only the mention of Caribbean countries signify the inclusion of Latin
America to the theory, and even then the countries are far outnumbered by the rest. There was also a
tendency of these authors to focus on former colonies of the British empire (Walden 61). However,
because this theory consists of such factors as trade and conquest and these former colonies reactions
to them there is a place for Latin America as a whole in the context of this theory. Countries such as
Cuba and Mexico, are still experiencing the effects of their history with colonialism and have used
writing as a way to obtain agency. This is seen through the discourse of revolutionaries like Castro and
Che, and later on from Subcommander Marcos. They use their respective country s history to further

Questions On Private Practice
Dilemma:
In the season 2 premier of Private Practice, we are introduced to a couple that have a sick son who was
dying of Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia. They had a partial match donor to help save the son life but
unfortunately the partial match donor was found to have pneumonia. Because the doctors thought the
son had a donor they started to prepare him for the transplant by stripping his immune system and
unless he received the transplant within a week he would die. The parents had already become
pregnant with a genetic match to their son, so that they could use the baby s umbilical cord blood in

If doctor Addison does this she can control how the C section will work and she can have different
teams ready, one team to help with the umbilical cord transplant for the son, another team ready to
care for the premature baby, and one team to help the mother and finish the C section. This would
allow for the son to receive the transplant, saving his life. But the premature baby must be carefully
cared since the chance of dying is high, she would need to be monitored and forced to stay in the
hospital for quite some time till fully development or approval from doctors.
Perspective number 2:
Another perspective for this case is that Doctor Addison does not preform the C section. The sick son
would be placed back on the transplant list with the hope that they could find another donor before the
son dies. But most likely the son would die since he only had a week left to live. Although, this
wouldn t place the unborn baby at risk for complications due to being born premature. The women
was 6 months pregnant and the doctors were not concern of any risk, only increasing the likeness of
the couple having a healthy baby being born.
Perspective number 3:
Another possible perspective is for the mother carrying the baby to endure her own delivery such as
by breaking her own water. This puts the mother at risk because she has to induce her own delivery
without the knowledge of the proper way to

Pop Art In The 1960s
Years following World War II, the United States enjoyed an unprecedented period of economic and
political growth. The Vietnam War incited mass protests, the Civil Rights Movement sought equality
for African Americans, and the women s liberation movement gained momentum. Entertainment
stepped into the new level with the monumental super stars such as Elis Presley led the emergence of
Rock and Roll, Marilyn Monroe was a reigning film star, and television replaced radio as the
dominant media outlet. Yet by the late 1950s and early 1960s, a cultural revolution was underway, led
by activists, thinkers, and artists who sought to rethink and even overturn what was, in their eyes, a
stifling social order ruled by conformity. Following the transformation to popular of the world, the
new art movement had occurred, Pop Art. Pop artists began to look for inspiration in the world around
them, representing and, at times, making art directly from everyday items, consumer goods, and mass
media. When it emerged in the 1960s, Pop art was not just about bold colors and celebrity culture; it
brought the popular world from cartoons and advertising to apples and bananas into the realm of high
art, turning taste on its head in the process. It was in this climate of turbulence, experimentation, and
consumerism that a new generation of artists emerged in Britain and America in the mid to late 1950s.
They did this in a straightforward manner, using bold swaths of primary colors, often

Essay On Ozymandias
Current pop culture has been influenced by great works of literary merit for as long as we can

writers, and musicians hundreds of years after its release. Percy Shelley produced various ideas to take

of pop culture uses Ozymandias in completely different ways; making Ozymandias an incredibly

Breaking bad, a hit television series was greatly influenced by Ozymandias. So much so, they created

Ozymandias was also a character created in the well known Watchmen comic books. He was not a
regular superhero, however. Adrian Alexander Veidt was not blessed with uncanny supernatural
powers that allowed him to fly or gave him the strength of 10 body builders. Instead his creators, Alan
Moore and Dave Gibbons, gave him a rough background and the title of the Smartest Man in the
World. How Adrian Veidt made himself into Ozymandias leads us straight into the history of the great
Pharaoh himself.

Delisting the Grey Wolf Essay
Delisting the Grey Wolf
The United States Fish and Wildlife Service are considering removing the gray wolf from the
endangered species list once Idaho, Montana, and Wyoming have enough wolves to be deemed
sufficient to continue to expand the wolf population, requiring only that each of these three states have
a management plan in effect to prevent the gray wolf from becoming endangered again. With the
current attitude of the governments in these states, the wolf should not lose their federal support under
the Endangered Species Act as it would merely serve to cause the wolves to become endangered once
again, or at best, held to the absolute minimum population that the states can pass off as viable, self
sustaining populations ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The state legislature has favored the ranching industry above ecology and continues to do so. Public
polls conducted by Boise State indicate that the overwhelming majority of Idahoans (nearly 70
percent) support wolf restoration (Laverty, par. 4) and the legislature is seeking to remedy this by re
educating the public with a balanced view of the impact of wolves on big game species, those sectors
of the economy dependent upon sport hunting, livestock, domestic animals, and humans (State, 3).
Furthermore, the cost of wolf reintroduction will be presented as a part of any public education
program including direct and indirect costs (State, 3).
This so called balanced view was presented in a program in which the most misrepresented issues
concerned the economic impact of wolves. Ranchers were allowed to claim unsubstantiated losses,
with no attempt to validate the accuracy of these claims (Laverty, par. 2). In granting the balanced
view sought by the legislature, the program portrayed the salt of the earth rancher as a poor victim of
the federal government s whim to restore the killers (Laverty, par. 2).
The lies by omission also showed up in this balanced view program, it failed to expose the enormous
subsidies that benefit

Aquinas Argumentative Structure
Additionally, the structure for all the five ways that Aquinas presented had similar argumentative
structure. First, an empirical fact is introduced which would lead to a conclusion which proved a
transcendent cause that relied upon these facts (35). A transcendent cause is a cause that is not a part
of the physical world but offers explanation of the existence and occurrences of this world (35).
Aquinas believed we did not understand God s essence, so he made the conclusion that God s
existence was not self evident to us, but it could be proven. Therefore, as stated earlier, he uses the
observation of motion to prove that God s lack of existence would be demonstrably false rather than
self contradictory (35). However, Aquinas argument

Blue Skies Irving Berlin Meaning
Blue Skies was one of the songs written by Irving Berlin months after the birth of his first child,
daughter Mary Ellin, in 1926. This piece came during a time of transition in Berlin s life, and the song
itself has transcend many centuries, adapting to the style of each time. It is important to explore the
differences between the periodical versions of Blue Skies ; however, the underlying message of the
song remains constant throughout time. The lyrics of Irving Berlin s Blue Skies plays with the
contrasting meanings behind the word blue, along with switching tonalities, allowing the song to
portray a hopeful outlook toward the future, while it s depressing mood brings this hope back to
reality.

As the song progresses, the spacing between the different meanings of blue get shorter. The physical
closeness of the words enhances the feeling that, although the signer of the song is optimistic, the

Ethnic Ties? Jewish Elements
Blue Skies started its rise to popularity in the 1926 musical Betsy, which was originally a Rodgers and
Harts production. The musical was a flop and Jewish star, Belle Baker, requested new music. Blue
Skies was written into the second act. The song s introduction was made even more memorable by the
fact that Ms. Baker forgot the lyrics, and Irving Berlin himself sang them from the front row.

Contributions Of Stephen Jay Gould
Stephen Jay Gould was an American paleontologist, evolutionary biologist and a historian of science
(The Contributions of Evolution). Stephen Jay Gould was also a science writer (The Editors). Gould
was born in Bayside, New York on September 10, 1941 (The Editors). He died on May 20, 2002 in
New York City. Gould s own personal research focused on the evolution and speciation of West Indian
land snails (The Editors).
Gould had a large educational background. He graduated from Antioch College in Yellow Springs,
Ohio in 1963 (Encyclopedia of World Biography). Stephen received a pH. D in paleontology at
Columbia University in 1967 (The Editors). Also at Columbia, he studied evolutionary biology and
paleontology (Encyclopedia of World Biography). He then became a professor at Harvard University
in 1973 (Encyclopedia of world Biography). Also at Harvard, he widened his study of the speciation
and evolution of land snails in the West Indies (Encyclopedia of World Biography).
Stephen Jay Gould had many major contributions to the biological community. Most of Gould s
research was based on land snails (The Contributions of Evolution). His most recognized contribution
is his theory of punctuated equilibrium. In 1972 Gould and his colleague, Niles Eldredge published
their theory of punctuated equilibrium, a landmark contribution to the study of evolution (Academy of

Five Sociological Problems In The 1998 American Film,...
The study of sociology has many different concepts and terms, three distinct theoretical approaches to
view situations and concepts, and regarding the political side of things, two majorly different
viewpoints. And in the 1998 American film, Pleasantville these things are all present in way form or
another. This paper will be divided up into three sections to talk about each topic of sociology and
how they pertain to the film. So, using the film as a reference point, this paper will explain and
describe in detail, five different sociological terms that can be seen in the film. Examples of the three
theoretical perspectives, structural functionalism, conflict theory, and symbolic interactionism. And
describe the two major political viewpoints in the United States and how they relate to parts of the
film. The first section of the paper will describe and identify five sociology concepts and terms and
how they relate to certain scenes in the film. One sociology concept that can be seen in the film is one
of the most basic, social problems. A social problem is described as A condition that undermines the
well being of some or all members of a society and is usually a matter of public controversy
(Macionis, 2015). Out of text, a social problem or social issue, can be anything that causes troubles or
complications in a society or community. Social issues can also be tied to other types of problems that

Nebraska State Budget
Assignment 4.2
Abstract
The State of Nebraska has a biennium budget that is set from 2013 all the way to 2015. Knowing what
is in your budget and how to properly gauge what will be needed for the coming two years in each
department is an important aspect to a successful budget. The person in charge of the budget for each
department needs to know how to properly budget and respond to the needs of the state in the most
fiscal way possible. A budget is only as good as the person who is running it. The Nebraska State
budget is complex, but with the right amount of team work and dedication, it seems to run very
smoothly.
Nebraska State Budget The Nebraska State budget is set on a biennium basis. Since this is the case the
budget will ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It gives a broad overview of the total estimated costs of all the areas that are being run in the state. The
appropriations that are shown in the 2012 13 current fiscal year are those adopted by 2011 regular
session and were further broken down during the 2011 special session of the 102nd legislature. The
Governor s budget recommendations for FY 2013 14 expect a general fund increase by four point nine
percent over the two year period. By doing this the Governor is exceeding the minimum reserve
requirement of fourteen point eight million for the next biennium. This type of foreshadowing is what
is helping Nebraska to look at the overall big picture and to try and stay within the state allowable
budget as closely as possible. The planning even estimates all the way into the 2015 17 biennium that
would set the future growth at five percent and also leave a General Fund balance in excess of the
minimum reserve requirement (Heineman, 2013).
Revenue Generation, Expenditures, and Services The State of Nebraska does a good job of showing
what the state s budget is being spent on and to which programs the money for the state is going.
When looking at the state s budget there are several items that have been considered for the biennium.
The State of Nebraska sets its recommendations by each functional area that are broken down into
general government, agriculture, environment and natural resources, economic development, human
resources development,

Often times religion is used as a way to enforce certain actions or justify a way of doing something.
This was discussed in relation to nature and primarily Western societies in an earlier reading but also

delay development of bacteriuria. This ability however varied greatly depending on population,

this effect being due to an exaggeration of the effect of these catheters in earlier trials because of an
advantage of newer silicone catheters over the older latex catheters which dilutes the effect in later

there seemed to be less of an advantage for silver alloy coated catheters over controls than for

Leading Cause Behind Allergies Essay
What is the leading cause behind allergies?
Have you ever asked yourself what is the main factor behind all of those irritating allergies? At some
point in every person s life they experience some type of allergy that can range from dust, animals,
pollens, food, etc. Some of the symptoms that come along with those allergies can range from a
painless skin rash to life threatening reactions causing ones airway to be obstructed. Some people have
suggested that if you are exposed to certain foods or bacteria s you may develop some type of reaction

new allergies or some vanish into thin air like they were never there. We are going to get to the bottom
of this issue so the real question you should be asking yourself is Are Genetics responsible for
allergies like everyone assumes or is there an underlining cause that we may just not have an answer

I have to say, this play was intriguing to me, with the three interlocking plots, all of which surrounding
a common theme; marriages. I am not familiar with this play outside of this class, I had wanted to see
the Hollywood adaptation with Kevin Kline, Michelle Pfeiffer, and Stanley Tucci, but I never got
around to it. To be honest, I didn t identify with any of the characters or the plot itself, which caused
great difficulty in choosing an angle for this paper.
The planned marriage between the good natured, appreciative Duke Theseus, who makes the best of
everything, and the Amazonian queen, the proud, fastidious Hippolyta was interesting, with a Pagan
twist, I enjoy Paganism and Pagan Esque mood, scenery, and feel. Then an utterly mad scramble ...

The societal restrictions and the dramatic differences between the real world and the fairy world. I do
not agree with allowing only men to be the decision makers and leaving the women to deal with the
cards they re dealt, but that was many years ago, thankfully! A Midsummer Night s Dream was a play
that was done quite beautifully by FRCC students. I was mesmerized by the acting abilities of all of
the characters that I was frequently drawn in, sitting on the edge of my seat, thrilled to be there in the

Fine Arts Research Paper
~Arts Advocacy~ Many schools have started to remove Fine Arts programs from their curriculum,
usually for financial reasons. Fine Arts programs are vital because they provide a creative outlet for
students. Even though such classes have proven to show important benefits to students who take them,
when pay cuts have to be made, fine arts programs are the first to go. Art and music education help
students in different ways including, bettering the performance of students in other academics through
creativity, improving mental health, and teaching them skills needed in everyday life. For this reason,
teachers, parents, and students should fight to help these programs remain in schools. Students
involved in fine arts programs often develop skills ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This decision is detrimental to students involved in all activities, but is especially harmful for those
who are not involved in athletics or academics. These students are forced to accept the situation placed
upon them and continue in school as they did previously without the outlet that the art programs
provided. Most schools remove these programs due to financial constraints and decide that art
programs are impractical and choose them as the first program to cut. Students from Howard
University who had participated in fine arts while in school stated, I think that it is absolutely
outrageous that fine arts are the first to be cut in public schools. This says a lot about what is important
to education in America. Because math and science is what is being tested, tests that determine a
school s ranking is what is most important to the school, but the institutions ranking is not necessarily
what is in the best interest of the students as a whole person (Hawkins). Reasons for this decision
include the cost of the program. Participating in the arts often requires a large sum of money which is
used to acquire supplies that are essential in order to allow the students express themselves. Schools
have also chosen fine arts as the first to be cut because they do not accumulate as much revenue as
extracurricular activities may ( Why Schools are

Daily Show Satire
Have you ever heard about the daily show? Jon Stewarts the daily show good or bad for American
democracy? I think is good because the news that we have now is boring and more people would
watch it now then the regular news. I think people will get more entertained and not bored. Making
people watch it and liking it.
Sometimes you have to get up and watch the news. Its not very entertaining to you so you just get up
and do something else. The news we have now tells us how the day is going to be or how nice it is.
The news will be actually fun and really nice if they were to use comedy like Jon Stewart. Jon tells us
the news but in like a fun way to entertained your self. People want to be able to have a laugh and be
happy in the morning. It will be ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Comedy entertains a lot of people now and days because they want to have a laugh for the day. People
want be able to tell others who Jon Stewart is and explain what he does, king of like Kevin heart. I
understand how people want to be bored and watch regular old news but other want to watch the news
where it can be funny and not entertaining. My point of view of Jon is like why don t people know of
him and why is he not out. If I was interested on watching him I would watch the news every morning
before school to go to school with a laugh.
The whole reason Jon does this is because he wants to have people talk and say positive thing about
him and for people to like his comedy. Comedy for him is probably entertaining and he likes to have
fun will doing things. To me comedy is very funny and I like having a laugh here and there to you
know entertain myself. Jon Stewart basically takes the news and re writes them as a comedy show for
others. Sometimes I think I can be stupuid but that s what they like to do, to keep them selfs occupied.
Sometimes you have to be really bored to change the news and make people

The Human Heart Essays
Introduction In our world organisms occupy a sliding scale of complexity. On one hand we have the
single cell organisms, where all necessary functions for their life are carried out within that one cell.
At the other extreme we have extremely complex multicellular organisms, of which humans are
perhaps the cardinal member. Obviously, with increased capacity comes increased abilities. Complex
organisms are able to manipulate their environment to a greater extent then their simpler cousins.
While this has a lot of advantages, it also presents interesting biological problems. With the increased
complexity multicellular organisms must have systems to deliver nutrients, signaling molecules, and
biochemical building blocks to every cell. In ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
While contraction in skeletal muscle is triggered by motor neurons under central control, certain
cardiac muscle variants exhibit autorhythmicity. This means that that they are capable of producing
their own depolarizing electrical potential. The cardiomyocytes that are capable of producing their
own electrical potentials are found in what is referred to as the electrical condition system of the heart.
This system is comprised of specializes cardiomyocytes that are autorhythmic and are able to conduct
electrical potentials rapidly. These specialized structures include the sinoatrial node, atrioventricular
node and bundle, and Purkinje fibers. While the bulk of the heart is myocardium, there are structural
components that are pertinent. The four cardiac valves can be seen in a transverse section of the heart
at the base of the ventricles.
Figure grey s cardiac skeleton
Surrounding each of these valves are dense fibrous rings or annuli made of connective tissue that
forms the cardiac skeleton. The annuli of the aortic valve forms the base for the other annuli as it is
located central to the other valves. Fibrous extensions from the annuli of the aortic valve extends
outwardly and anchors the other three valves. In addition to the four annuli there are other fibrous
components of the cardiac skeleton such as the right and left fibrous trigones, and the membranous
septum. The right fibrous trigone is also know as the central

Laser Speckle Flowgraphy Essay
Questions
1) Describe the principles underlying the technique of laser speckle flowgraphy that can be used for
observing/estimating retinal blood flow. Discuss its relative advantages and disadvantages compared
to other techniques. Refer to Sugiyama et al. (2010). Use of laser speckle flowgraphy in ocular blood
flow research. ACTA Ophthalmol. 88: 723 729, in your answer.
The retina is one of the most metabolically active tissues found within the human body and is a very
important structure within the eye. Without it, vision as we know it would not be possible. Therefore,
efficient maintenance of the retina is very important. Retinal blood flow plays a significant role in
maintaining a healthy and properly functioning retina. One way of measuring/estimating retinal blood
flow in living eyes is through the use of Laser Speckle Flowgraphy.
Laser speckle flowgraphy (LSFG) allows for the quantitative estimation of blood flow in the optic
nerve head, choroid, retina and iris in vivo Sugiyama et al (2010). The basic principle of LSFG is to

As a result, it is suggested by Cohen et al. that risk factors for atherosclerosis should be assessed, and
additional imaging done to detect underlying pathophysiology of carotid artery occlusive disease may
also be indicated for preventative

Abstract
In this paper I will explore the subject media and the effect on today s society. The research
information was gathered from two websites. The role the media plays in delivering the media to the
public is an important fact covered in this essay. The significance of news media on culture and
society is huge and changing from day to day. The social responsibility the news media has regarding
ethical and legal compliance online. A few of the key supporting thoughts are as follows. The different
forms of media and the various delivery methods to the public. The advantages and disadvantages of
modern delivery. The changes in ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The media is to entertain, but more important to inform and to avoid conflicts of interest. News
markets would love to earn the respect of their viewers. Providing the truth and the most breaking
news this improves their ratings. Once the news media violates that trust people will find another form
to get their news. The media has a huge influence on the public opinion. The media and their owners
need to be held to high levels of accountability. They should stay in compliance with the laws, codes,
and regulations. The legal and ethical issues for the online community are the same as if it were not
online. Oftentimes it is easy to violate these online than if gathering information from the textbook or
encyclopedia. It can very easy to post a picture and if this picture has a copyright then it would be a
violation of copyright infringement laws. Sometimes it is easy to miss this and we often use material
found on the Internet without permission. There can be legal ramifications from this action.
Technology is a part of our everyday lives and our world. The way the news and information is
reaches our homes has improved considerably over the last 20 years. Technology is a science and
offers areas of study in regard to this science. Some advantages of the modern delivery is the
convenience of reaching many people at one time. This is helpful for many reasons a few include

  • 2. The World Is Not Short On Food The causes of poverty are very complex and there isn t just one single solution to fix it. However, the problems could generally be reduced by equal distribution of the basic resources such as water, food and land. These basic human needs can be met by doing simple suggesting such as having the country invests in seeds, irrigation and tools for people to grow and harvest foods. Fixing the education systems and meeting the needs of local communities that can t afford to go to school providing the knowledge. Providing advice and marketing encouragement to those countries that want to improve and be involved. With such basic skills and knowledge a country would be about to provide the basic needs for its own people. The world is not short on food. Many of the developed countries have enough of it, but people in the third world countries are suffering because they are unable to gain the access to the food, water and land or unfortunately can t afford to purchase it or make it. Economist, Jeffery Sachs has observed the water crisis in Africa have developed what they call the water poverty trap. Sachs says that the developed crisis is unique not because it s the poorest region in the world but because it s the only major region that has a negative growth in the income per capita in his study he conducted. Its correlates with the poverty of the region and the lack of water that leads to the loss of food, the cause of many deadly diseases and unfinished education; Most people ... • 3. Ophiuchus Research Paper My favorite constellation is the Ophiuchus (also known by its Latin name Serpentarius). It lies in the northern sky and is, in fact, the 11th largest constellation. It belongs to the Hercules family of constellation and contains seven Messier objects and a number of notable stars. It is my favorite because of the myth associated with it, which I learned during a camping trip from a classmate who wanted to explore the outer space and knew much about the stars. Years later, that campfire story is one of my most vivid memories. Translated from Greek, Ophiuchus means snake bearer (from the root όφις [ophis] snake ) and is associated with the myth of Asclepius, who had healing powers so powerful, that he was said to have the ability to bring the dead back to life. Asclepius was ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The wise centaur took away Ascleptius from the village and raised him in the wilderness of the forest, teaching him the ways of magic and hunting. Years later, when wandering in the forest, Ascleptius was confronted by a snake and, astonishingly, found that he could speak with the reptile. Fascinated by his newfound ability, Ascleptius convinced Chiron to let him wander the world. Together with his reptile companion, Ascleptius travelled and refined his healing skills by using Parselmagick, bringing the wounded back from the brink of death. The rumours of a miracle healer, who brought people back to life and travelled with his faithful fiend the Serpent, spread and reached the ears of the wizards. The highly superstitious and paranoid wizards took the exaggerated stories to be true and interpreted Asclepius as being a Parseltounge Necromancer a practitioner of the darkest magic. Filled with self righteousness, they devised a man hunt to rid the world of the perceived Dark wizard and managed to catch Ascleptius unawares, killing him and the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The largest aerospace company, Boeing is the #2 maker of large commercial jets (behind rival Airbus) and the #2 defense contractor behind Lockheed Martin. The aerospace and defense industry did suffer the effects of a post 9/11 society. Because of the weakened and fearful tourism market, spending on commercial aircraft did decrease. But recently, revenues have improved considerably as travelers are becoming more comfortable with flying again. Defense expenditures are the leading source of revenue for the US industry. Boeing, despite aerospace spending decreasing, has profited from projects such as the missile interception network and revamp of the US armed forces. The ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Also, the dividend yield is a very important measure of profitability to investors. The dividend yield measure shows the rate of return to common stockholders in terms of cash dividends. The Boeing Company performs very well in terms of ratios. Boeing s earnings per share on common stock is 2.81. Also, Boeing s price earnings ratio is 33.31 and their dividend yield is 1.4%. Boeing s stock is currently selling at 93.67. Boeing looks to be a pretty steady stock, as analysts are predicting that its mean target is 99.83 and its low target is 70, while the high target is 114. Boeing is a global company, considering it has customers in over 90 countries around the world and is one of the largest U.S. exporters based on sales. It also has employees in 70 of the countries that it deals with. Boeing is in a bit of a tough spot with outsourcing considering that they deal with government defense contracts. They are taking large bounds to really work with their global partners. Instead of just outsourcing call sources or manufacturing, they are actually outsourcing engineering and design positions as well. One of Boeing s executives really summed up their goal quite well with this quote, One of the things we have found [is that] it s best to have the people building the parts designing the parts, says Michael Bair, Boeing s vice president in charge of the 787 program. • 6. Literature Review On Social Media INTRODUCTION Social media in today s sociality has become our primary means of communicating. It has also become the most inexpensive way to market and promote argues Chu Du (2017). More studies argue that social media has simplified the way to connect to students, and offers the quickest way to for universities and colleges to spread information to students (Chu Du, 2013). Che Du (2013) also argues that social media is catching on within academic libraries around the globe. Their research showed that 71.1% of academic libraries were already using social media to connect and engage with students (Chu Du, 2013). While Stvilla Gibradze (2017) agrees, they also state how important it is for librarians to stay updated with the latest trends of social media to connect with students. While connecting with students is a very important in marketing events, it s just as important to ensure these events are marketable to students, that spark interest. (Andrews, 2014). In this research paper, I will further explore academic library events and the influence that social media has on these events. Interest on this research started from Bodnar Mathews (2008) article on relationships between school newspapers and their academic libraries. From the finding in their research, they found that 25% of articles that mentioned the library were about library events and displays (Bodnar Mathews, 2008). • 8. Karl Popper and Thomas Kuhn 2 Popper and Kuhn: Two Views of Science In this essay I attempt to answer the following two questions: What is Karl Popper s view of science? Do I feel that Thomas Kuhn makes important points against it? The two articles that I make reference to are Science: Conjectures and Refutations by Karl Popper and Logic of Discovery or Psychology of Research? by Thomas Kuhn. Both articles appear in the textbook to this class. In the article, Science: Conjectures and Refutations , Karl Popper attempts to describe the criteria that a theory must meet for it to be considered scientific. He calls this puzzle the problem of demarcation. Popper summarizes his arguments by saying, the criterion of the scientific status of a theory is its ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Kuhn refutes this point by claiming that Popper s assertion that astrologers escape falsification by explaining away any possible refutations is impossible to support. Kuhn uses the example of reputable records that indicate many instances where astrology categorically failed. Astrology is a very complex science (or non science, depending on your opinion). Measuring the planets and the stars is hard, and in the days when astrology was more popular, the tools for measuring were crude. In addition, few people knew exactly when they were born, a crucial detail needed to perform accurate astrology. Kuhn agrees with Popper in stating that astrology is not a science, but they differ in their reasons. Kuhn main problem with astrology is that the failures of astrology do not give rise to research puzzles. He thinks that when a scientific theory fails to explain a phenomenon, there is a new puzzle for scientists to study, learn, and grow from. In astrology, nothing is learned from mistakes. There is no effort to change the theory to explain why it failed or adopt a new theory. Popper emphasizes the importance of testing when it comes to new theories replacing old ones. Kuhn takes particular offense to this statement. He argues that if one looks at how science is actually done, not how Popper thinks it should be done, it will be clear that many new theories were adopted before they had been tested. Kuhn uses the example of Copernicus theory being adopted over ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The deduction is available when property passes to the surviving spouse either as an outright gift in the Will or when property is left in a marital trust as a benefit for the surviving spouse. The War Revenue Act of 1898 was repealed in 1903, one year after the end of the Spanish American War, but in that short amount of time the tax raised about $14.1 million (Jacobson, Raub, Johnson, 2007). In the early 20th century, after worldwide conflict cut into trade tariffs, Congress turned to another revenue source: The Revenue Act of 1916. This Act introduced the income tax system used today and also included an estate tax with similar features of today s system. Residents received an exemption of $50,000 with tax rates starting at one percent and climbing to 10 percent on estates over $5 million (Jacobson, Raub, Johnson, 2007). As the US entered World War I in 1917, estate taxes were increased. Unlike the previous Acts, the Act of 1916 was not repealed after the war ended, but instead the laws surrounding the estate tax framework shifted immensely over the next century. History of the Unlimited Marital Deduction At this point in history no provision for a marital deduction had been made and as a result, residents of community property states were at an advantage over residents of common law states. In community property states, marital estates were split in half to create a low overall tax burden. It was not until 1948 that the estate tax code was amended to reduce these tax ... • 10. Socrates Tragedy An Innocent Tragedy The trial of Socrates is well known throughout the modern world. It is a historical event that ties together philosophy, literature, and law. However, do we stop to consider whether or not Socrates was truly guilty of the crimes he was accused with. I believe Socrates was innocent on all charges, since he sufficiently proved that he did believe in the gods and was not corrupting the youth. One of the accusations brought against Socrates is he disregards the gods of the state, instead teaching purely physical explanations for heavenly and earthly phenomena, which are typically explained by the doings of the gods. Socrates refutes this claim by stating that he has no knowledge in the field of scientific explanations. This is pre Socratic philosophy, which Socrates states he has never taught. He asks the jury Tell one another, then, whether any of you has ever heard me discussing such subjects, either briefly or at length; and as a result you will realize that the other things said about me are equally baseless. (Pojman 37) Socrates goes on to rebut the first part of the accusation by explaining that while he does not necessarily believe in the gods of the state, he does believe in a higher god. Socrates argues that he cannot believe in one god without believing in other gods as well. So, although he may not directly believe in the gods of the state, he acknowledges the fact that such gods must exist. He points out the paradox in his accusers statement ... That is exactly what happened in the Triangle Shirtwaist Fire of 1911. The building itself was reported to be fire proof, but what about its contents? The amount of unused cotton and other fabric scraps that were piled up were ample amounts of fuel just waiting to be consumed by a spark. The business owners kept what little exits and escape routes the building had locked for fear of a thieving employee. The employees mostly took the elevators up and down the building, limiting their knowledge of possible escape routes. (Von Drehle, 2003) The greatest lesson learned from this tragedy was the need for planned fire drills and accessible fire escapes. If the employers would have made it mandatory that all employees become familiar with the buildings layout, practice fire drills and know their closest fire escape, it would have aided the employees in the hour of despair. The biggest cause for death in this fire was a result of poor pre fire planning. The building may be fire proof, but the people and contents inside are not. The Triangle tragedy opened many people s eyes. The realities of a disaster happening anywhere, at anytime, were real and people needed to prepare. Many investigations were launched surrounding the Triangle fire. Commissions formed that later gave out rulings and findings. Even the Ladies Garment Workers Union became involved, trying to get standards and codes passed that would ensure the safety of workers in the workplace. It took many years for the commissions and unions to get the changes implemented. Today, regardless of OSHA enforcement, there are still workplaces with locked or blocked emergency exits. Due to the lesson that was learned in the Triangle fire, we now have organizations like OSHA, NFPA, state and local municipals that make code and enforce standards. Their goal is to ensure the safety of lives and property by enforcing the codes and standards of all workplaces ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Many different people have used the hornpipe and it s musical styling as influence for their music. The influence of the hornpipe can be seen as recently as the Drop Kick Murphy s rendition of Shipping up to Boston. Hornpipe is an obsolete reed instrument with a mouthpiece made of horn. • 16. The Rhetoric Of The Cuban Revolution These last few lines are interesting for various reasons. First, it is a fine example of a message that Castro often employs which is the sacrifice of the individual in favor of the betterment of the country as a whole (Valdés 31). Part of the way to gain the people s support was to obtain Legitimacy derived from service, not self interest (Valdés 31). Castro makes himself sound like a martyr as he talks about the torture and belittlement he says he will endure while imprisoned. It is a common criticism of the theory because many see it as not concerning itself enough with Latin American countries. An example of this would be how the writers of The Empire Writes Back identified countries who were seen as postcolonial when they wrote, So the literatures of African countries, Australia, Bangladesh, Canada, Caribbean countries, India, Malaysia, Malta, New Zealand, Pakistan, Singapore, South Pacific Island countries, and Sri Lanka are all postcolonial literatures. (Ashcroft, Griffiths, Tiffin 2). Only the mention of Caribbean countries signify the inclusion of Latin America to the theory, and even then the countries are far outnumbered by the rest. There was also a tendency of these authors to focus on former colonies of the British empire (Walden 61). • 17. Questions On Private Practice Dilemma: In the season 2 premier of Private Practice, we are introduced to a couple that have a sick son who was dying of Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia. They had a partial match donor to help save the son life but unfortunately the partial match donor was found to have pneumonia. Because the doctors thought the son had a donor they started to prepare him for the transplant by stripping his immune system and unless he received the transplant within a week he would die. The parents had already become pregnant with a genetic match to their son, so that they could use the baby s umbilical cord blood in the future. If doctor Addison does this she can control how the C section will work and she can have different teams ready, one team to help with the umbilical cord transplant for the son, another team ready to care for the premature baby, and one team to help the mother and finish the C section. This would allow for the son to receive the transplant, saving his life. But the premature baby must be carefully cared since the chance of dying is high, she would need to be monitored and forced to stay in the hospital for quite some time till fully development or approval from doctors. Perspective number 2: Another perspective for this case is that Doctor Addison does not preform the C section. The sick son would be placed back on the transplant list with the hope that they could find another donor before the son dies. But most likely the son would die since he only had a week left to live. Although, this wouldn t place the unborn baby at risk for complications due to being born premature. The women was 6 months pregnant and the doctors were not concern of any risk, only increasing the likeness of the couple having a healthy baby being born. Perspective number 3: Another possible perspective is for the mother carrying the baby to endure her own delivery such as by breaking her own water. This puts the mother at risk because she has to induce her own delivery without the knowledge of the proper way to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The Vietnam War incited mass protests, the Civil Rights Movement sought equality for African Americans, and the women s liberation movement gained momentum. Entertainment stepped into the new level with the monumental super stars such as Elis Presley led the emergence of Rock and Roll, Marilyn Monroe was a reigning film star, and television replaced radio as the dominant media outlet. Yet by the late 1950s and early 1960s, a cultural revolution was underway, led by activists, thinkers, and artists who sought to rethink and even overturn what was, in their eyes, a stifling social order ruled by conformity. Following the transformation to popular of the world, the new art movement had occurred, Pop Art. Pop artists began to look for inspiration in the world around them, representing and, at times, making art directly from everyday items, consumer goods, and mass media. When it emerged in the 1960s, Pop art was not just about bold colors and celebrity culture; it brought the popular world from cartoons and advertising to apples and bananas into the realm of high art, turning taste on its head in the process. It was in this climate of turbulence, experimentation, and consumerism that a new generation of artists emerged in Britain and America in the mid to late 1950s. • 19. Essay On Ozymandias Current pop culture has been influenced by great works of literary merit for as long as we can remember. Ozymandias, being the astounding poem it is, evidently had a lot to give to producers, writers, and musicians hundreds of years after its release. Percy Shelley produced various ideas to take from the poem; from whom the poem was about to when the poem was written. Each influenced piece of pop culture uses Ozymandias in completely different ways; making Ozymandias an incredibly versatile poem. Breaking bad, a hit television series was greatly influenced by Ozymandias. So much so, they created an episode named Ozymandias, and it came complete with the star of the show reciting the poem himself. Delisting the Grey Wolf Essay Delisting the Grey Wolf The United States Fish and Wildlife Service are considering removing the gray wolf from the endangered species list once Idaho, Montana, and Wyoming have enough wolves to be deemed sufficient to continue to expand the wolf population, requiring only that each of these three states have a management plan in effect to prevent the gray wolf from becoming endangered again. With the current attitude of the governments in these states, the wolf should not lose their federal support under the Endangered Species Act as it would merely serve to cause the wolves to become endangered once again, or at best, held to the absolute minimum population that the states can pass off as viable, self sustaining populations ... Public polls conducted by Boise State indicate that the overwhelming majority of Idahoans (nearly 70 percent) support wolf restoration (Laverty, par. 4) and the legislature is seeking to remedy this by re educating the public with a balanced view of the impact of wolves on big game species, those sectors of the economy dependent upon sport hunting, livestock, domestic animals, and humans (State, 3). Furthermore, the cost of wolf reintroduction will be presented as a part of any public education program including direct and indirect costs (State, 3). This so called balanced view was presented in a program in which the most misrepresented issues concerned the economic impact of wolves. Ranchers were allowed to claim unsubstantiated losses, with no attempt to validate the accuracy of these claims (Laverty, par. 2). In granting the balanced view sought by the legislature, the program portrayed the salt of the earth rancher as a poor victim of the federal government s whim to restore the killers (Laverty, par. 2). First, an empirical fact is introduced which would lead to a conclusion which proved a transcendent cause that relied upon these facts (35). A transcendent cause is a cause that is not a part of the physical world but offers explanation of the existence and occurrences of this world (35). Aquinas believed we did not understand God s essence, so he made the conclusion that God s existence was not self evident to us, but it could be proven. Therefore, as stated earlier, he uses the observation of motion to prove that God s lack of existence would be demonstrably false rather than self contradictory (35). However, Aquinas argument ... The Governor s budget recommendations for FY 2013 14 expect a general fund increase by four point nine percent over the two year period. By doing this the Governor is exceeding the minimum reserve requirement of fourteen point eight million for the next biennium. • 41. Essay On The Christmas Carol I have to say, this play was intriguing to me, with the three interlocking plots, all of which surrounding a common theme; marriages. I am not familiar with this play outside of this class, I had wanted to see the Hollywood adaptation with Kevin Kline, Michelle Pfeiffer, and Stanley Tucci, but I never got around to it. To be honest, I didn t identify with any of the characters or the plot itself, which caused great difficulty in choosing an angle for this paper. The planned marriage between the good natured, appreciative Duke Theseus, who makes the best of everything, and the Amazonian queen, the proud, fastidious Hippolyta was interesting, with a Pagan twist, I enjoy Paganism and Pagan Esque mood, scenery, and feel. Fine Arts programs are vital because they provide a creative outlet for students. Even though such classes have proven to show important benefits to students who take them, when pay cuts have to be made, fine arts programs are the first to go. Art and music education help students in different ways including, bettering the performance of students in other academics through creativity, improving mental health, and teaching them skills needed in everyday life. For this reason, teachers, parents, and students should fight to help these programs remain in schools. Students involved in fine arts programs often develop skills ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This decision is detrimental to students involved in all activities, but is especially harmful for those who are not involved in athletics or academics. These students are forced to accept the situation placed upon them and continue in school as they did previously without the outlet that the art programs provided. Most schools remove these programs due to financial constraints and decide that art programs are impractical and choose them as the first program to cut. Students from Howard University who had participated in fine arts while in school stated, I think that it is absolutely outrageous that fine arts are the first to be cut in public schools. This says a lot about what is important to education in America. Because math and science is what is being tested, tests that determine a school s ranking is what is most important to the school, but the institutions ranking is not necessarily what is in the best interest of the students as a whole person (Hawkins). Reasons for this decision include the cost of the program. Participating in the arts often requires a large sum of money which is used to acquire supplies that are essential in order to allow the students express themselves. Schools have also chosen fine arts as the first to be cut because they do not accumulate as much revenue as extracurricular activities may ( Why Schools are ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 44. The Human Heart Essays Introduction In our world organisms occupy a sliding scale of complexity. On one hand we have the single cell organisms, where all necessary functions for their life are carried out within that one cell. At the other extreme we have extremely complex multicellular organisms, of which humans are perhaps the cardinal member. Obviously, with increased capacity comes increased abilities. Complex organisms are able to manipulate their environment to a greater extent then their simpler cousins. While this has a lot of advantages, it also presents interesting biological problems. With the increased complexity multicellular organisms must have systems to deliver nutrients, signaling molecules, and biochemical building blocks to every cell. In ... This means that that they are capable of producing their own depolarizing electrical potential. The cardiomyocytes that are capable of producing their own electrical potentials are found in what is referred to as the electrical condition system of the heart. This system is comprised of specializes cardiomyocytes that are autorhythmic and are able to conduct electrical potentials rapidly. These specialized structures include the sinoatrial node, atrioventricular node and bundle, and Purkinje fibers. While the bulk of the heart is myocardium, there are structural components that are pertinent. The four cardiac valves can be seen in a transverse section of the heart at the base of the ventricles. Figure grey s cardiac skeleton Surrounding each of these valves are dense fibrous rings or annuli made of connective tissue that forms the cardiac skeleton. The annuli of the aortic valve forms the base for the other annuli as it is located central to the other valves. Fibrous extensions from the annuli of the aortic valve extends outwardly and anchors the other three valves. In addition to the four annuli there are other fibrous components of the cardiac skeleton such as the right and left fibrous trigones, and the membranous septum. Discuss its relative advantages and disadvantages compared to other techniques. Refer to Sugiyama et al. (2010). Use of laser speckle flowgraphy in ocular blood flow research. ACTA Ophthalmol. 88: 723 729, in your answer. The retina is one of the most metabolically active tissues found within the human body and is a very important structure within the eye. Without it, vision as we know it would not be possible. Therefore, efficient maintenance of the retina is very important. Retinal blood flow plays a significant role in maintaining a healthy and properly functioning retina. One way of measuring/estimating retinal blood flow in living eyes is through the use of Laser Speckle Flowgraphy.
