Proper Way To Display A Flag
How does your piece of art communicate, evoke, or inspire? What do you think the artist was trying to
say with his or her work?
Dread Scott definitely created a lot of controversy between people throughout the United States with
his artwork What is the Proper Way to Display a Flag. People started communicating and discussing
the artwork with one another. This definitely evoked a lot of people negatively. Americans were very
upset to see this art displayed in a public museum. People starting discussing whether or not it was
right to have the flag disrespected in this way. President Bush did not approve of the artwork at all
saying that it was disgraceful and made him worry about the idea of freedom of speech (Scott, n.d.).
This artwork inspired the government to outlaw displaying the flag of the United States on the floor or
ground. (Scott, n.d.).
Dread Scott wanted his artwork to be able to be understood by a broad group of people. I think the
author was trying to say that not everyone in the U.S. has to respect the flag by not stepping on it.
There are people in America that do not think that they have to follow the rule of not letting ... Show

Has it moved across geographic space? Who paid for it, bought it, developed it? Can it be sold?
This piece of art originally was displayed in the School of the Art Institute of Chicago (Scott, n.d.).
Shortly after it was displayed, the flag display was taken down because of the new law making it
illegal to place the flag on the floor or ground (Scott, n.d.). However, Judge Kenneth L. Gillis argued
that the new law about the flag not being able to touch the ground could not be used to prosecute
artists because of the freedom of speech from the first amendment (The Thomas Jefferson Center,
2005).
Dread Scott created this artwork so he was in charge of developing it. I was not able to find if it has
moved from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago or if it was bought or sold to

Article Analysis Of Camille Paglia s On Date Rape
On Date Rape is an article written by Camille Raglia, which argues the young women of today pay not
much attention about their safety while they re enjoying the freedom they deserve. (Paglia) According
to the author of this article, who also is a humanities professor and a cultural critic, a woman should
pay more attention to their safety while they pursuit the freedom as man does. Because a woman is
likely become a victim in a rape case. In this article, the author also implies that even the law should
protect women from the rape, but women themselves still should build up a self protection awareness
to keep them away from the rape crime. (Paglia) However, even this article points out a main
argument about self protection awareness is necessary for a woman, but some of its point didn t
support the main argument of this article. In additional, the focus of my article is about to analysis the
article of Camille Paglia, On Date Rape. Also, I ll point out some misconceptions about her work.
The first point I recognized in Paglia s article is the third paragraph of the article, which explains that
because of the young feminists come from a white, middle class world, so that they expect everything
should be safe as they think. On the other side, because the black or Hispanic women grow up in a
different environment, where full of sexual culture, therefore they will pay more attention of their
safety (Paglia). In my opinion, the rape crime is not only existing in black and

Reducing Deforestation And The Loss Of Biodiversity
When the UN created Sustainable Development Goals during their meeting in New York City from
September 25th 27th, there were many targets that were set in order to improve Terrestrial Processes.
This was clearly an important issue that the UN felt the need to spend much time on in order to
address properly. Ultimately, several of the targets include certain fragments that are unable to be
measured accurately, or are given targets that are too general. However, many targets can still be
measured accurately and examples of this include Targets 15.2 and 15.5 that aim to halt deforestation
and the loss of biodiversity. This can be measured through extensive documentation of a forest s area
or by analyzing the amount of biodiversity within it. The studies are done usually by both countries,
such as Canada, and by wildlife groups such as WWF (Effects of Deforestation, Fitzsimmons)
(Deforestation, Bradford).
This is exceptionally similar to target 15.3, which aims to restore degraded land and soil from
desertification. Countries and the UN itself mostly measure this target. An example would be the
United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification (UNCCD) that determined severe land
degradation is affecting 168 countries worldwide (Desertification Crisis, King).
Target 15.7 calls for an end to poaching and trafficking of protected species of flora and fauna, as well
as addressing the supply of illegal wildlife products. In m opinion, both of these can be measured to a

The Organizational Cost Of Employees
The organizational cost of employees longer work life is placing an economic strain on the
organization s bottom line and by applying some microeconomic theories and applications; an
organization will be able to identify some possible programs that will help in the easing of this
economic strain. This economic strain on the organization s bottom line could be eased with more
focus being placed on maintaining employee s fitness and knowledge. This fitness and knowledge
program is the key because by applying pricing theory, equilibrium analysis, and economic efficiency
theory, a fitness and knowledge program for employees will lower the economic strain on the
organization s bottom line that is felt through new hires and time off due to sickness.
First, the economic strain on the organization s bottom line could ease with the use of supply and
demand theory. The supply and demand theory is synonymous with economics and not necessarily
thought of being used in the selection process of a program but they truly are one in the same. The
supply and demand theory will help in identifying and the development of programs that will benefit
both the employee and the employer, as there is a demand by both employees to be more fit and by
their employer for their employees to be fit.
The employee and the employer s desire for fitness is based on two different reasons, as a employees
desire is to be more fit and healthier with less use of sick time as well as for their appearance. On the

Comparing Tristan And Isolde Vs. Lancelot And Guinevere
Love can be a person s greatest gift or curse that will bring them to their demise. It infects their mind,
controls their actions and consumes their thoughts with the singular obsession of being around their
love. In the love stories, Tristan and Isolde and Lancelot and Guinevere, the characters face problems
of the soul, and that bring about monumental repercussions to everyone around them. In both of these
works, the characters experience loving someone out of reach. Their love is taboo; it will never be
accepted because of their circumstances. This causes a rift in their stream of normality and forces
actions to be made. Love triangles emerge since the characters are trying to find a way to achieve their
goals but still keep what they have. In both of the stories, Tristan and Isolde love each other similarly
to Lancelot and Guinevere. All they can think about is each other. (insert quote). Lancelot went behind
his king s back to be with Guinevere just like Tristan. Both of them knew that each of their kings was
with the woman they love, but both realized that no matter what they did their relationship would be
forever confined to the shackles of secrecy, darting glances of affection and sporadic moments of
privacy. The relationship between the enamored men and their kings is different. Tristan was the
stepson of the king, and it hurt him, even more, to see his beloved with his father. While on the other
hand, Lancelot s situation was a little different.

Declaration Of Independence Analysis
The Framers of the Declaration of Independence believed what they wrote that All men are created
equal. However, the majority of the founders did not understand the phrase the same way we know it
to be true today. In their world, Native Americans were savages, African Americans were animals, at
best, the poor were people in their eyes, but not intelligent or morally upright people (if they were
surely God would not let them starve and live in poverty), and women were the devil s playthings and
even by definition not male, therefore the lesser sex. Their understanding of whom could be an equally
created man was simple white males with land. This demonizing made it easy for the founders to
forget what they wrote as soon as the ink dried. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The widow is poor, but she still puts all the good she has into her offering. Whereas the rich have
plenty and will hardly notice the decrease. I think as humans we are too quick to write off people for
what they seem without ever knowing who they are and we judge them for what we think they are
because it fits into neat classifications we have in our minds. I am not an economist or a political
science major. I do not know how society would be affected without an impoverished class, but as a
human I think it must be better than our world now. I am an English major and in most of the
dystopian books I ve read the strongest class is the one that is written off by the others. How we
should go about raising the impoverished out of destitution I do not know, but my best guess would be
education. In class we discussed welfare mom, but I think that is too simplistic of a term. There are
multiple types of welfare moms in the country, but only one that is a cause for concern. The type of
parent that has no regard for his/her child s wellbeing should not be allowed to have children. I
propose that children who come from these homes be put into a year round boarding school their food,
books, and clothing should be paid by taxes and the child will stay in this school system until high
school graduation when they can decide to enter college as normal

Diversity-Related Issues And Cultural Dilemmas
There are numerous forms of diversity related issues and cultural dilemmas, which afflict individuals
or groups. Both aspects have positives and negatives that may or may not impact others, depending on
perspective. For instance, gender can be thought as biologically and by genitalia who is considered to
be a man and a woman (Kahn, 2015). This definition may not be all encompassing, as it is much more
complex than this. There are individuals that may be transitioning from a man to a woman or vice
versa or may identify as a woman or man. In fact, gender has become the center of controversy, for
individuals that are transitioning and respecting their right to utilize the appropriate restroom in public.
Therefore, this affects individuals that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

The Monster Figurative Language
The lyrics to a song called The Monster by Eminem are different than the lyrics to any other rap that I
have heard. This song is about the writers fame, and how he sometimes struggles and becomes angry
at it. The speaker of The Monster is I , which we know is the author, Eminem. This means that the
point of view of this poem is first person. In this song, Eminem is recounting events that are occurring.
By looking at lines such as I wanted the fame, but not the cover of Newsweek and Hit the lottery, oh
wee (next line:) But with what I gave up to get it was bittersweet , I figured out that the poem reveals
that the speaker s character is a tad frustrated that fame caused him to give up some things that he
loved. Eminem isn t exactly addressing a particular ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
For one thing, I realized that this poem has no setting, and that there isn t a particular event. Then, I
examined the figurative language of the song, and if there are any patterns. The Monster is mostly
made up of figurative language, making it quite thought provoking. I noticed that it all refers back to
his fame and his struggles. Basically, all of the figurative language is about the same topic. I also
noticed that there are two main types that the author uses: idioms/expressions and similes. ...For
wanting my cake I eat it too, and wanting it both ways is an example of an idiom used in the song.
Going cuckoo and cooky as Kool Keith and Ironic cause I think I m getting so huge I need a shrink are
only two of the many similes in The Monster. Thirdly in my deep analysis of this song, I determined
the structure of this poem. I came to conclusions that every stanza has sixteen (16) line plus a (1) line
leading into the chorus. So every stanza includes seventeen (17) lines. In addition, I determined that
there is a lot of rhyming, but there seems to be no

First of all, if you study any kind of history you know that the divide and conquer tactic has been used

Republicans Why Are you Not Then Outrage by Corporate

Oh that s right because most of it is going to you. When did defending profits become more of a
priority to you people than caring about your fellow countrymen and women? Is your golden egg
concept of capitalism so fragile and precious that it should be held in higher regard than human well
being? If you are so worried about protecting capitalism and a free market where is your outrage for
corporate subsidies? You don t like people getting handouts and not earning things themselves?
Isn t capitalism supposed to be a system where if you fuck your business up then oh well tough luck,

Heroism Depicted Throughout The Epic Poem, The Iliad And...
Heroism is shown through the ages in a variety of areas all over the world. One of the greatest
examples of how heroism is depicted within a literary work is in Homer s epic poem, The Iliad.
Although the ideals of heroism are apparent in the poem, it is important to understand how the same
theme can be seen through other works of literature. The Knights Tale, which is one of the greatest
stories that Chaucer s Canterbury Tales has to offer. The Iliad and The Knights Tale are both stories
that contain the ideals of heroism.
In the epic poem, The Iliad, Homer was brilliant in showing the idea of traditional heroism on the
battlefield. There is a clear conviction that comes from Homer in that he directed towards his audience
with the motive of making them understand the true definition of heroism. One of the greatest
examples of how heroism is displayed is the success within the field of battle. Heroism is defined by
the wish and willingness to emerge as a winner in case of militants. Through military conflict heroism
is defined by the urge on the war field as well as the desire to defend and protect one s honor.
However, the complexity that exists within the heroism is what redefines the ideal of heroism by truly
revealing it. Wife, I too have thought upon all this, but with what face should I look upon the Trojans,
men or women, if I shirked battle like a coward? (142). Within this final scene between Hector and his
wife, the heroism of war is truly displayed. Hector

Essay on Franz Kafka s Use of Humor
Franz Kafka s Use of Humor
Franz Kafka, born on July 3, 1883 in Bohemia, in the city of Prague, has been recognized as one of
the greatest writers of the twentieth century. His works have been called cloudy, mysterious,
inexplicable (Oates ix). Most people hear the term Kafkan or Kafkaesque and think of dark, fantastic
tales with almost no basis in our known reality. But what of Kafka s sense of humor? I personally
laughed out loud several times while reading Kafka s Amerika. Were these snippets of humor part of
Kafka s plan or mere accidents?
According to Roy Pascal, author of Kafka s Narrators: A Study of His Stories and Sketches, There is a
good deal of humour in these early stories, as in the novels and later stories, but ... Show more content

Georg s father goes on to kick and yell at Georg extensively. Through this entire barrage and beating
from his father the only thought that pops into Georg s head is he has pockets even in his shirt (Kafka
86) referring to his father s nightshirt. This left turn from the heat of the moment is quirky enough to
give the reader pause and wonder what is going on. Such was Kafka s intent.
Another good example is in the novel Amerika. Here, protagonist Karl Rossman comes to at 3:00 am
after a serious fight with two men, Robinson and Delamarche, whom he met shortly after his arrival to
the United States from Germany. He wanders out onto the balcony of the apartment he is trapped in

works at Montly s department store all day and then studies and goes to school all night. When asked
when he sleeps Karl hears, Oh sleep! said the student. I ll get some sleep when I m finished with my
studies. I keep myself going on black coffee. A fine thing black coffee. I don t like black coffee, said
Karl. I don t either , said the student laughing. But what could I do without it? If it weren t for black
coffee Montly wouldn t keep me for a minute. I simply don t know how I would get on in the shop if I
didn t have a big bottle like this under the counter, for I ve never dared to risk stopping the coffee

The 2016 Nissan Maxima is the eighth generation of the car taking the form of a sports sedan, with
great performance. This is the car that will make people want to buy a sedan, rather than the trendy
crossover cars that are hot right now.
Some car companies are trying to get into the hybrid game, but not Nissan. Instead they are going for
what they call the four door sports car, going so far as to etch 4DSC into the headlights and taillights,
reminding people of older models of the Maxima; like the window stickers the 90s era models had.
It comes in four different model types: a base model, S, SV, SL, and SR. The S is closer to the bottom
of the luxurious end of the spectrum, more for the everyday driver, simple looking for a new car. ...

The Rising Of The Decembrist Russia
The rising of the Decembrist Russia was due to a confusion over the next succession. In 1825,
Alexander I died suddenly. Alexander s younger brother, Constantine, who was next in line, had no
desire to assume the throne of such a burdensome empire, so he gave his right of succession to his
brother Nicholas. Nicholas, however, had been left unaware of the official details of the change and on
learning of Alexander s death he proclaimed Constantine emperor at St. Petersburg, at the same time
as Constantine in Warsaw was proclaiming Nicholas. For nearly three weeks in December 1825 the
throne remained vacant. Russian officers and troops had come into contact with currents of liberal
thought, with new social conditions, and with new political institutions in western Europe during the
struggle against Napoleon. Upon their return home they saw that the idea of the rights of man was
regarded with contempt by their rulers, that their country by trodden under the heel of an autocracy
which made all progress impossible. As they had no legitimate means making their desires known,
they organised secret societies which agitated for reforms, including the establishment of a
constitution. These societies, afterwards called the Decembrists, were planning a widespread uprising
but, when Alexander suddenly died, resolved to take advantage of the uncertainty that existed
regarding the succession to attempt a coup d etat. But the plotters had no clear plan or organisation

Why Animal Testing Should Not Be Banned
Animal testing should not be banned for many apparent reasons. It is obvious that animal testing has
improved the lives of many around the world and contributed valuable and life saving information to
us. Living a longer and healthier life was made possible since the human body is vulnerable to many
diseases, viruses, and bacterias and we found many cures to them, like polio. According to the article
Animal Research Benefits on https://www.amprogress.org there are more than 9,000 children
diagnosed with AIDS every year and 1,350 children die every day because of it. We have not yet
found a cure for this disease yet, but animal testing has helped contributed to finding a medicine that
can help lessen the effects of it and the spread of it. Many products have also been used/ tested on

Tim Burton Film Techniques Essay
Tim Burton s films are strange and wonderful with his medium shots, eye level angles, and front or
back lighting. His films have great depth of meaning and he always seems to get the audience s
attention with his techniques. In some of his movies like Edward Scissorhands and Beetlejuice he used
many different techniques to demonstrate sinister moods and tones. The tones of his movies are
usually always dark because of his childhood experiences and past. Tim Burton creates something so
odd and turns it into a work of art. The purpose of medium shots is for capturing the medium distance
between the camera and the objects or characters being filmed, it s used to express the main story of
what s occurring. For example, in his movie Edward Scissorhands , Tim Burton filmed a medium shot
of when Edward watched the water bed slush around before he put a hole in the mattress. The medium
shot makes the scene funny and odd to watch; considering the scene is Edward moving along,
watching the bed, then him poking a hole on accident in the water mattress, plus ... Show more content

The technique allows the audience to become apart of the movie, in a way the angle gives the
audience the characters eyes, letting the audience see what the character might be seeing from their
view point. For example, in Charlie in The Chocolate Factory , Tim Burton caught the audience s
attention when some of the characters were just beginning to meet Willy Wonka, before they were
invited inside his factory. The scene was shot from the character s eye level looking up at Willy
Wonka and listening to him speak about welcoming them to his factory, although he was reading off
of note cards and just showed them singing, dancing, mechanical puppets that quit working due to

The Problem Of Illegal Immigrants
Donald Trump wrongly says the number of illegal immigrants is 30 million or higher Donald Trump
made several claims recently that the population of illegal immigrants in the U.S. has risen to thirty
million or more. He claimed that the government had no grasp on the population of illegal immigrants,
and that he s seen those estimates in several papers and other sources. The Department of Homeland
Security disagreed, saying that their calculations of illegal immigrants took a lot of factors into
account. Even with a plus or minus one million margin, there was no way possible for the number of
illegal immigrants to have tripled without them knowing. Several other major research organizations
agreed, saying they also came up with estimates very close to the eleven million estimate given. No
one is really sure where exactly Trump got these outrageous and wildly inaccurate claims, but they are
almost certain that he is incorrect. I think Trump will always be a racist figurehead, constantly
spewing misinformation because he knows the general public will eat it up. He spent some time in
probably what is mostly a white supremacist Texas town, and suddenly came back with unfounded
overestimates of the population of illegal immigrants. This does not surprise me, nor should it surprise
anyone else.

Introduction The Wawa Food Market chain is a privately held company that offers built to order foods,

as the Canadian citizens would benefit in more ways than one from these openings. Canada s middle
class is the richest among other big nations. Since 2000, median income in Canada has grown 19.7%,
compared to the 0.3% growth in the United States. Since Canada has taken aggressive steps to raise

Wawa has been seen as having a weak cost structure and having a lack of presence online as two of
their main weaknesses. The one thing you have to consider while talking about cost structure is the
quality of the product. Although Wawa is seen as having higher prices they also provide food and
services that go far beyond any top competitor in the market. A weak online presence is not good for a
company because it results in lost opportunities. Online marketing is a huge part of business these
days, and Wawa s lack thereof may be the cause of no knowledge about the store in Canada. Social
media and online advertisement goes a long way with how prevalent people are on computers.
The online market offers Wawa great opportunity for expansion. The amazing thing about the online
market is that you can advertise to a much wider group of people for less expense than alternate ways.
This would be a great way to spread awareness of the company before transitioning into a new
economy where Wawa is unknown. Another great opportunity that has come with the upbringing of
new technology is mobile shopping. Being able to shop on a mobile phone or laptop and have your

An Overview of Bilingual Education Essay
Overview of Bilingual Education
Is a second language a necessity in our world today? Should parents push for their child to learn two
languages in elementary school? If we live in multicultural neighborhoods, trade with the global
marketplace, and want to use all technology resources available, it is necessary to know two
languages. Multilingual people and communities seem to have an edge over monolingual competition.
This provides people of all ages an incentive to learn a second language (Genesee, 1998). In this
research paper English and Spanish will be the languages referred to for bilingual education, although
others are offered. The purpose of this paper is to compare the benefits and pitfalls of language

It s a plus. Learning the first language at the same time as learning English is having a positive effect
on both languages. At home the parents feel that they can communicate with their children, (p. 664)
says a Khmer speaking teacher in Australia (Barrot Pugh Rohl, 2001). Khmer is spoken in all
Australian homes and is practically required for children to learn. This program is not only for
increasing cognitive skills, but also for students to communicate fully in their community and within
their families. One in every four children in Australia speaks a language other than English. Australian
children are encouraged and greatly supported by the community to learn a second language, which is
why these numbers are so high. If the United States had the same motivation for their children, it
would produce many more bilingual children. All children in the Khmer English program show
parallel development in the two languages. Many kids accomplish this by using information from one
language to assist the development of the other language. Learning Khmer gives the children a sense
of identity in their home and culture (Barratt Pugh Rohl, 2001). This is a good example of a
community using all its available resources, and hopefully Americans will learn from their
enthusiasm.

Discourse Community Essay
Julia Allgeier
Ms. Newhouse
English 101 section 61
9/16/14
A Discourse Community Have you ever been among people who are very much like you? That it does
not matter what differences you have you all have a lot more in common. A member of 4 H constitutes
a discourse community because of an agreed set of common public goals, level of membership, and
something that provides information and feedback. An agreed set of public goals for our community is
that as a whole group we do a lot of community service. For a couple of years my club would go to a
nursing home and do different activities with the elderly. Whether it be making them sun catchers to
hang in their windows or play board and card games with them. It ... Show more content on

By taking this project for four years it had helped me make a final decision on what I wanted to go to
college for. I was right, I have a great passion for American Sign Language and learning about the
deaf community. The level of membership in 4 H does not have anything to do with your knowledge
or experience. For most people like myself, we got started in 4 H at the age of five being a cloverbud.
I got to go to the club meetings, participate in them, do activities with older members, and even take a
project to the fair if I wanted to, but it just did not get judged. At the age of eight I became a first year
4 Her. I got to take any project(s) I wanted, and gave me a good feeling that I got to pick what I
wanted to do. I took a market lamb, sewing for beginners, and cooking project. I had so much fun
working with my grandma on my sewing project but learnt at the age of eight that it was not
something I liked to do. I cooked with my mom and found I really enjoy to cook. Working on my
market lamb with my older sister was probably the best of all my first year experiences. I never took
another livestock project throughout my fifteen years in 4 H though. I could not handle sending an
animal to its death after I had spent endless amounts of time with it. When I turned eleven I became a
junior member and when I did my projects I was expected to do more with in them. As I

The Pros And Cons Of Horror Genre
The only thing we have to fear is fear itself, famous quote by Franklin D. Roosevelt. The single
human mind isn t always born with several outrageous fears, but they are incorporated in during the
journey of life. There are numerous ways to obtain fears, but a majority is acquired through the horror
genre. Unfortunately, as middle school students age, the horror genre is becoming more and more
popular for them, therefore, them wanting to participate in this trend and lead up to them gaining
certain mental health complications because of it. Some such as anxiety and phobias, insomnia, and
aggressive behavior.
In the first place, the horror genre can produce anxiety and phobias. Phobias, also known as a fear, can
prevent middle school students from doing certain things because of that fear. Examples such as
coulrophobia. Coulrophobia, also known as the fear of clowns, can prevent children from going to
their peer s birthday party in fear of detecting a clown near. They could get this fear by either reading
the book or watching the movie, It by Stephen King, a horror book/film written in 1986. According to
psychologist Emma Kenny, she states, Fear is a natural response. And when you are reading a scary
story to a child, or they re reading to themselves, the child has got a level of control they can put it
down, or ask you to stop. And the story can raise a discussion, in which they can explore and explain
the way they feel about a situation. This means that by reading

Summary Of The Poisonwood Bible
Barbara Kingsolver s, The Poisonwood Bible, is a story about the lives of the Price Family women
and how a year of missionary work while living in the Congo forever changed their lives. A very
important aspect of the plot in The Poisonwood Bible is that the husband of the Price family, Nathan,
is the entire reason for the story. His unyielding desire to become a missionary and carry out what he
believed to be God s work is what led to the families living in the Congo and destroying the bonds the
Prices had with each other. Throughout the story Nathan Price is presented as an arrogant southern
Baptist preacher with a twisted sense of his place in the world. Having no regard for women as
anything but housewives with little intelligence, he is depicted as an abusive husband and father.
Nathan Price is described as being a changed man from his younger days. Fighting in WWII had
changed him for life. In Contrast to this there is Brother Fowles, a foil to Nathan Price, who is a
missionary that lived in Kilanga before the Price family came. He married an African woman and had
stayed behind after warned to leave the Congo. His interpretations of the Bible and world perspective
are more loosely guided than Nathan Prices. Brother Fowles is overall more liked than Nathan Price
throughout the story. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Nathan Price believes that it is his duty to move his family to the Congo and complete God s plan for
him as a missionary to help the people find salvation. This idea doesn t seem entirely out of place after
we see Brother Fowles illustrate his cultural and moral interpretations of Bible scripture. However it is
not seen until the end of the book, Nathan Price s need to please God does not lie with the people of
the Congo, but for himself. The more Nathan Price tries to relay his own way to God, the father
detached he becomes from the Congolese people and his

Amazon Rainforest And Its Impact On The Biome
What Is Amazon Rainforest, What Are the Human Activities In it and what effects do these activities
have on the biome?
One of the biome which I found interesting was the Amazon rainforest. The Amazon Rainforest is
region which is owned by more than 1 country because of its land mass. It is actually owned by 9
nations. This biome is situated in the amazon basin of South Africa. The Amazon Rainforest covers
5,500,000 km2 (2,123,562 sq mi) of total 7000000 km2 of the Amazon basin. This particular
rainforest cover more than 50% of the world rainforest biome. So as to understand this particular
rainforest biome better, I am going to talk about the Brazil part of the rainforest as it owns 60% of the
rainforest. I found this particular ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Climate Condition:
Amazon rainforest has a tropical climate or also know as the equatorial climate. It is humid throughout
the year and has an average temperature of 28 degree celsius. We can not really divide the climate
between summer and winter as it has a annual temperature range of 2 degree celsius. The temperature
difference between day and night is about 2 to 5 degree celsius. The climate is not as hot as we may
except it rarely goes above 30 degree celsius. but the only trouble in the rainforest is the humidity
which causes a feeling of lack of air. Due to the humidity we can not really see a dry season in the
amazon as it rains thought out the year. We can divide rainfall in Amazon into into two parts rainy and
not so rainy.
If we look at the above climate table of the amazon basin we can find that the temperature is almost
constant throughout the year. But we can kind of divide rainfall in Amazon into rainy and not so rainy
. If we have a look at the above table between the months June to September we can call it not so rainy
and the rest of the months we can call it rainy. This is between October to May.
Flora and Fauna:
There are around 40,000 plants species, 427 mammals, 1,300 birds , 378 reptiles and 400 amphibians
and 3000 freshwater fishes. These are just the number of some big animals. But in fact if we count the
number of smaller life forms it will be way more the above number. There are more that 100,000

Mob s Target Nicely Conveys The Premise Of This Crime...
The title MOB S TARGET nicely conveys the premise of this crime thriller. The plot focuses on an
insecure and fearful accountant who testifies against a major mobster, sending him to prison. The mob
wants revenge and she s the target. She enters a Witness Protection program, but an enforcer tracks her
down.
The goal of survival is clear and the stakes are life and death. There are several themes incorporated
into the script about trust, revenge, justice, survival, and second chances.
The script also poses some intriguing moral questions, especially for the police chief Joe. He has to
struggle with the moral argument of family vs. justice. He clearly has a moral dilemma.
With that said, this is a plotline that has been done before, but ... Show more content on

The plot also offers another coincidence with the idea that Megan s father was murdered and that
Brown investigated it. Again, too many coincidences cause one to question the credibility of the plot.
In this case, it s not clear how Megan s dad being murdered is relevant, or how it connects to the
plotline. The backstory is left dangling for the audience. It s a serious backstory to have a parent
murdered; yet there s no payoff for the reveal.
Normally, a backstory has some emotional affect on the current storyline. For example, if Megan were
home when her dad was killed and she was unable to protect and save him, then this could be a
relevant inner conflict for her. She could carry the guilt about her father and now she has to learn to
protect herself. Or in another example, if Megan were home when her dad was murdered, maybe she
saw the killer and now years later he reappears. Regardless, the idea of the connection to Brown isn t
clear and it s suggested to eliminate this connection unless there s a solid link to the present day
storyline and the past.
The opening sets the tone for a mobster story. It establishes that Nick is deadly. However, the scene isn
t as tense or suspenseful as it could be. One reason for this is that the audience isn t emotionally
invested in the owner of the bookshop and the dialogue and action doesn t create compelling enough
tension.
The other concern about the tone is that, in

Springhill Country Guesthouse Essay
Springhill Country Guesthouse Case Study
1. What is meant by qualitative and quantitative research?
a) Qualitative essays are more subjective and focus on the researcher s own inferences drawn from his
study of the data.
The qualitative studies use data from focus groups or case studies that the researcher herself analyses.
b) Quantitative studies are more objective and concentrate on drawing conclusions based a statistical
analysis of the data. Both types of essays seek to answer a question, called a hypothesis, about some
aspect of social phenomena. The quantitative projects use surveys that provide a set of fixed responses
that can be coded with numbers.

Problem solution research is to solve specific marketing problem such as: * Segmentation research *

It is important to mention:
a) Problem identification or recognition starts when a company manager believes that he doesn t have
enough information to make a decision to solve a problem or to identify and take advantage of a
market opportunity. In that case the manager has to seek for the information through the market
research process.
b) Defining the real problem it is important so the manager can be clear about the information is
needed and for what purpose. The management decision problem needs to be defining in terms of a
market research problem.
c) Defining the objectives of the research it is important in this stage of the market research to avoid
studying the wrong thing. Basically here the manager define what information he needs, when he need
it and makes a statement of the purpose of the research.
In the case of Springhill, they defined they need demographic information but

Depression And Mental Illness
When one thinks of an illness, most individuals picture a visible decline in one s physical health.
Individuals picture a person coughing, sneezing, or vomiting; however, not all illnesses are outwardly
shown. Depression is a mental illness. Mental illnesses are not illnesses that can be seen just by
glancing at an individual; nonetheless, they are just as harmful and detrimental as physical ailments.
According to Healthy People 2020, depression is one of the most common forms of mental illness
(Reeves et al 2011). Depression affects individuals of all ages, but it is especially prominent in college
students. Research has also shown that approximately 1 in 12 adults have experienced depression or
depressive symptoms within a 12 month period ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Depression has been identified as the leading cause of disability and the second leading cause of
burden (Whisman 2015). The result of depression can lead to deteriorated relationships, poor
academic outcomes, and low outlook on life. Likewise, depression has been shown to increase the
likelihood of chronic diseases in an individual. Depression increases one s probability of diabetes,
cancer, cardiovascular disease, asthma, and obesity (Office of Disease Prevention and Health
Promotion 2017). Depression can also have a more serious ramification. This illness does not cause
death, however, untreated this illness can lead to suicide. Suicide is the 10th leading cause of death in
the United States (Office of Disease Prevention and Health Promotion 2017) and the 3rd leading cause
of death in individuals aged 15 24 (Smith 2015). Suicide can occur as a result of many different
situations, but negative mental health is a common precursor. It was found that approximately 1,110
college students commit suicide per year (Smith 2015). This alarming statistic solidifies college
students need for help. Like other mental illnesses, depression can be a life long battle. Depression,
along with other chronic illnesses, is expensive. This illness not only creates emotional detriment, but
also enables economic hardship as well. According to Healthy People 2020, depression causes
psychosocial and economic costs not only for people living with the disorder, but also for their
families, schools, workplaces, and communities (Office of Disease Prevention and Health Promotion

Trump Persuasive Essay
In Defence Of Trump
I can t believe that I ended up doing this, but I just defended Trump. And no it wasn t for his tax plan.
That is thoroughly debunked by John Green at https://youtu.be/SgicDQHbV3M. Then what was it
then I here you ask. So let me set up the scene for you. My sister and I were driving home from a party
we were just at. We get into a conversation about politics. It was a completely civil talk, we are both
left leaning and believe in a lot of the same things. It is when my sister said what am I going to do if
Trump wins? This made me a bit mad and is when I started defending Trump a little.
Something I do when I am in an argument is I play devil s advocate. If you don t know what a devil s
advocate is, it is when you take an opposing point of view for the sake of argument. I told her that if

This fear isn t completely unjustified, but Obama didn t sign any law that stated gay people could
marry or anything. What happened was that Ohio was sued over gay marriage and it ended up going
all the way to the supreme court. The supreme court ruled that banning gay marriage was
unconstitutional. And keep in mind that that was a supreme court with 4 democrats and 5 republicans.
There should be no reason to think that Trumps election will have any effect on cases already passed.
But Trump gets to choose the next supreme court judge because Antonin Scalia just died my sister
exclaimed. Yes Trump would get to choose who the next supreme court judge would be. But Antonin
Scalia was a republican, and it was with him on the supreme court when gay marriage was legalized.
He also voted against gay marriage (https://goo.gl/JgS89J). That means even if Trump picks a person

The Persuasive Tone of The Flea Essay
The Persuasive Tone of The Flea
John Donne, a member of metaphysical school in the Seventeenth century, exhibited his brilliant talent
in poetry. In The Flea, he showed the passion to his mistress via persuasive attitude. The tone might
straightforwardly create playfulness or sinfulness; yet, the poem contains none of either. What impress
readers most is situation and device. The situation between the speaker and the audience is persuasion,
love or marriage. As to device, the notable parts are diction and rhetoric skills. Furthermore, unique
characteristics of this poem are also an important element of his persuasive tone.
First of all, the situation created by Donne is remarkable. Although there is only one ... Show more

More than the effect, it also has an implication. The flea having sucked his blood and then hers, he
takes a far bolder step and suggest that because their blood in now mixed in the flea s body, they are in
some meaningful physical way joined already. i[i]
Finally, The Flea contains two major unique characteristics. One of Donne s most successful effects is
sudden contrast.ii[ii] The insect seems to be no connection with romance, but by sucking blood of two
characters of the poem, the flea builds a bridge between the two persons that surprises many readers.
¡¥The Flea seems particularly unerotic in character, extraordinarily preoccupied with ethical and
social, particularly marital, matters¡K. but also transforms the sexual seduction lyric into a more
serious persuasion to full affectionate and physical loving. iii[iii]
The other is Donne s skill, dramatic monologue. In both line one of the first and the second stanzas,
the poet began with strong voice. Later in the following lines of the two stanzas, Donne himself
explained his reasons logically. The only difference is his attitude. The tone of stanza two is stronger
than stanza one, and stanza three is even stronger than stanza two; therefore, in killing it the poet s
mistress would commit, not only murder on him, a crime she is injured to, but suicide and sacrilege.
iv[iv]
To the end, The Flea describes a

Examples Of Power Struggle In Frankenstein
Throughout Frankenstein, the growing strife between Victor and the monster is representative of a
class war. This strife is due to the monster and Victor s conflicting interests and results in a power
struggle between the two. This power struggle is similar to one we see in real life, between the
bourgeoisie and the working class, as they have a similar power dynamic (Wilson 116). Since the
bourgeoisie are credited with the creation of the working class and have control over many aspects of
their life, they have immense power over the workers, yet the workers have the strength in numbers to
rise up and resist the bourgeoisie. This power struggle reached a peak during the time of the Victorian
Era, including increasing strife between both the bourgeoisie and the ... Show more content on

This resentment can clearly be seen in Frankenstein, it starts with the monster resenting Victor for
creating him and creating him in a way that makes humans despise him (Shelley 85). This resentment
against Victor continues to grow, especially after Victor refuses to build a companion for the monster.
This is the brink for the monster and is when he truly begins to wage a class war upon Victor. Victor is
also resentful of the monster. Thoughts of the monster have plague Victor throughout the entire novel,
even when he was under the impression that the monster had been destroyed, during the winter after
the monster s creation (39). Victor s resentment continues to grow as the monster begins to make his
presence know in murdering Victor s family and friends. Like the workers, the monster is willing to do
anything to improve his conditions, even if it involves waging a class war upon those high up on the
social hierarchy. Considering that the monster and Victor become alienated throughout the novel, it is
clear to see that they represent a class

  • 2. Proper Way To Display A Flag How does your piece of art communicate, evoke, or inspire? What do you think the artist was trying to say with his or her work? Dread Scott definitely created a lot of controversy between people throughout the United States with his artwork What is the Proper Way to Display a Flag. People started communicating and discussing the artwork with one another. This definitely evoked a lot of people negatively. Americans were very upset to see this art displayed in a public museum. People starting discussing whether or not it was right to have the flag disrespected in this way. President Bush did not approve of the artwork at all saying that it was disgraceful and made him worry about the idea of freedom of speech (Scott, n.d.). This artwork inspired the government to outlaw displaying the flag of the United States on the floor or ground. (Scott, n.d.). Dread Scott wanted his artwork to be able to be understood by a broad group of people. I think the author was trying to say that not everyone in the U.S. has to respect the flag by not stepping on it. Shortly after it was displayed, the flag display was taken down because of the new law making it illegal to place the flag on the floor or ground (Scott, n.d.). However, Judge Kenneth L. Gillis argued that the new law about the flag not being able to touch the ground could not be used to prosecute artists because of the freedom of speech from the first amendment (The Thomas Jefferson Center, 2005). Dread Scott created this artwork so he was in charge of developing it. I was not able to find if it has moved from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago or if it was bought or sold to ... • 3. Article Analysis Of Camille Paglia s On Date Rape On Date Rape is an article written by Camille Raglia, which argues the young women of today pay not much attention about their safety while they re enjoying the freedom they deserve. (Paglia) According to the author of this article, who also is a humanities professor and a cultural critic, a woman should pay more attention to their safety while they pursuit the freedom as man does. Because a woman is likely become a victim in a rape case. In this article, the author also implies that even the law should protect women from the rape, but women themselves still should build up a self protection awareness to keep them away from the rape crime. (Paglia) However, even this article points out a main argument about self protection awareness is necessary for a woman, but some of its point didn t support the main argument of this article. In additional, the focus of my article is about to analysis the article of Camille Paglia, On Date Rape. Also, I ll point out some misconceptions about her work. The first point I recognized in Paglia s article is the third paragraph of the article, which explains that because of the young feminists come from a white, middle class world, so that they expect everything should be safe as they think. On the other side, because the black or Hispanic women grow up in a different environment, where full of sexual culture, therefore they will pay more attention of their safety (Paglia). • 4. Reducing Deforestation And The Loss Of Biodiversity When the UN created Sustainable Development Goals during their meeting in New York City from September 25th 27th, there were many targets that were set in order to improve Terrestrial Processes. This was clearly an important issue that the UN felt the need to spend much time on in order to address properly. Ultimately, several of the targets include certain fragments that are unable to be measured accurately, or are given targets that are too general. However, many targets can still be measured accurately and examples of this include Targets 15.2 and 15.5 that aim to halt deforestation and the loss of biodiversity. This can be measured through extensive documentation of a forest s area or by analyzing the amount of biodiversity within it. The studies are done usually by both countries, such as Canada, and by wildlife groups such as WWF (Effects of Deforestation, Fitzsimmons) (Deforestation, Bradford). This is exceptionally similar to target 15.3, which aims to restore degraded land and soil from desertification. Countries and the UN itself mostly measure this target. An example would be the United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification (UNCCD) that determined severe land degradation is affecting 168 countries worldwide (Desertification Crisis, King). Target 15.7 calls for an end to poaching and trafficking of protected species of flora and fauna, as well as addressing the supply of illegal wildlife products. In m opinion, both of these can be measured to a certain ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. The Organizational Cost Of Employees The organizational cost of employees longer work life is placing an economic strain on the organization s bottom line and by applying some microeconomic theories and applications; an organization will be able to identify some possible programs that will help in the easing of this economic strain. This economic strain on the organization s bottom line could be eased with more focus being placed on maintaining employee s fitness and knowledge. This fitness and knowledge program is the key because by applying pricing theory, equilibrium analysis, and economic efficiency theory, a fitness and knowledge program for employees will lower the economic strain on the organization s bottom line that is felt through new hires and time off due to sickness. First, the economic strain on the organization s bottom line could ease with the use of supply and demand theory. The supply and demand theory is synonymous with economics and not necessarily thought of being used in the selection process of a program but they truly are one in the same. The supply and demand theory will help in identifying and the development of programs that will benefit both the employee and the employer, as there is a demand by both employees to be more fit and by their employer for their employees to be fit. The employee and the employer s desire for fitness is based on two different reasons, as a employees desire is to be more fit and healthier with less use of sick time as well as for their appearance. • 6. Comparing Tristan And Isolde Vs. Lancelot And Guinevere Love can be a person s greatest gift or curse that will bring them to their demise. It infects their mind, controls their actions and consumes their thoughts with the singular obsession of being around their love. In the love stories, Tristan and Isolde and Lancelot and Guinevere, the characters face problems of the soul, and that bring about monumental repercussions to everyone around them. In both of these works, the characters experience loving someone out of reach. Their love is taboo; it will never be accepted because of their circumstances. This causes a rift in their stream of normality and forces actions to be made. Love triangles emerge since the characters are trying to find a way to achieve their goals but still keep what they have. In both of the stories, Tristan and Isolde love each other similarly to Lancelot and Guinevere. All they can think about is each other. (insert quote). Lancelot went behind his king s back to be with Guinevere just like Tristan. Both of them knew that each of their kings was with the woman they love, but both realized that no matter what they did their relationship would be forever confined to the shackles of secrecy, darting glances of affection and sporadic moments of privacy. The relationship between the enamored men and their kings is different. Tristan was the stepson of the king, and it hurt him, even more, to see his beloved with his father. While on the other hand, Lancelot s situation was a little different. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 7. Declaration Of Independence Analysis The Framers of the Declaration of Independence believed what they wrote that All men are created equal. However, the majority of the founders did not understand the phrase the same way we know it to be true today. In their world, Native Americans were savages, African Americans were animals, at best, the poor were people in their eyes, but not intelligent or morally upright people (if they were surely God would not let them starve and live in poverty), and women were the devil s playthings and even by definition not male, therefore the lesser sex. Their understanding of whom could be an equally created man was simple white males with land. This demonizing made it easy for the founders to forget what they wrote as soon as the ink dried. ... I think as humans we are too quick to write off people for what they seem without ever knowing who they are and we judge them for what we think they are because it fits into neat classifications we have in our minds. I am not an economist or a political science major. I do not know how society would be affected without an impoverished class, but as a human I think it must be better than our world now. I am an English major and in most of the dystopian books I ve read the strongest class is the one that is written off by the others. How we should go about raising the impoverished out of destitution I do not know, but my best guess would be education. In class we discussed welfare mom, but I think that is too simplistic of a term. There are multiple types of welfare moms in the country, but only one that is a cause for concern. • 8. Diversity-Related Issues And Cultural Dilemmas There are numerous forms of diversity related issues and cultural dilemmas, which afflict individuals or groups. Both aspects have positives and negatives that may or may not impact others, depending on perspective. For instance, gender can be thought as biologically and by genitalia who is considered to be a man and a woman (Kahn, 2015). This definition may not be all encompassing, as it is much more complex than this. There are individuals that may be transitioning from a man to a woman or vice versa or may identify as a woman or man. This song is about the writers fame, and how he sometimes struggles and becomes angry at it. The speaker of The Monster is I , which we know is the author, Eminem. This means that the point of view of this poem is first person. In this song, Eminem is recounting events that are occurring. By looking at lines such as I wanted the fame, but not the cover of Newsweek and Hit the lottery, oh wee (next line:) But with what I gave up to get it was bittersweet , I figured out that the poem reveals that the speaker s character is a tad frustrated that fame caused him to give up some things that he loved. I also noticed that there are two main types that the author uses: idioms/expressions and similes. ...For wanting my cake I eat it too, and wanting it both ways is an example of an idiom used in the song. Going cuckoo and cooky as Kool Keith and Ironic cause I think I m getting so huge I need a shrink are only two of the many similes in The Monster. • 11. Heroism Depicted Throughout The Epic Poem, The Iliad And... Heroism is shown through the ages in a variety of areas all over the world. One of the greatest examples of how heroism is depicted within a literary work is in Homer s epic poem, The Iliad. Although the ideals of heroism are apparent in the poem, it is important to understand how the same theme can be seen through other works of literature. The Knights Tale, which is one of the greatest stories that Chaucer s Canterbury Tales has to offer. The Iliad and The Knights Tale are both stories that contain the ideals of heroism. In the epic poem, The Iliad, Homer was brilliant in showing the idea of traditional heroism on the battlefield. There is a clear conviction that comes from Homer in that he directed towards his audience with the motive of making them understand the true definition of heroism. One of the greatest examples of how heroism is displayed is the success within the field of battle. Heroism is defined by the wish and willingness to emerge as a winner in case of militants. Through military conflict heroism is defined by the urge on the war field as well as the desire to defend and protect one s honor. However, the complexity that exists within the heroism is what redefines the ideal of heroism by truly revealing it. Wife, I too have thought upon all this, but with what face should I look upon the Trojans, men or women, if I shirked battle like a coward? (142). Within this final scene between Hector and his wife, the heroism of war is truly displayed. Hector ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Essay on Franz Kafka s Use of Humor Franz Kafka s Use of Humor Franz Kafka, born on July 3, 1883 in Bohemia, in the city of Prague, has been recognized as one of the greatest writers of the twentieth century. His works have been called cloudy, mysterious, inexplicable (Oates ix). Most people hear the term Kafkan or Kafkaesque and think of dark, fantastic tales with almost no basis in our known reality. But what of Kafka s sense of humor? I personally laughed out loud several times while reading Kafka s Amerika. Were these snippets of humor part of Kafka s plan or mere accidents? • 16. The Rising Of The Decembrist Russia The rising of the Decembrist Russia was due to a confusion over the next succession. In 1825, Alexander I died suddenly. Alexander s younger brother, Constantine, who was next in line, had no desire to assume the throne of such a burdensome empire, so he gave his right of succession to his brother Nicholas. Nicholas, however, had been left unaware of the official details of the change and on learning of Alexander s death he proclaimed Constantine emperor at St. Petersburg, at the same time as Constantine in Warsaw was proclaiming Nicholas. For nearly three weeks in December 1825 the throne remained vacant. Russian officers and troops had come into contact with currents of liberal thought, with new social conditions, and with new political institutions in western Europe during the struggle against Napoleon. Upon their return home they saw that the idea of the rights of man was regarded with contempt by their rulers, that their country by trodden under the heel of an autocracy which made all progress impossible. As they had no legitimate means making their desires known, they organised secret societies which agitated for reforms, including the establishment of a constitution. These societies, afterwards called the Decembrists, were planning a widespread uprising but, when Alexander suddenly died, resolved to take advantage of the uncertainty that existed regarding the succession to attempt a coup d etat. His films have great depth of meaning and he always seems to get the audience s attention with his techniques. In some of his movies like Edward Scissorhands and Beetlejuice he used many different techniques to demonstrate sinister moods and tones. The tones of his movies are usually always dark because of his childhood experiences and past. Tim Burton creates something so odd and turns it into a work of art. The purpose of medium shots is for capturing the medium distance between the camera and the objects or characters being filmed, it s used to express the main story of what s occurring. For example, in his movie Edward Scissorhands , Tim Burton filmed a medium shot of when Edward watched the water bed slush around before he put a hole in the mattress. The Problem Of Illegal Immigrants Donald Trump wrongly says the number of illegal immigrants is 30 million or higher Donald Trump made several claims recently that the population of illegal immigrants in the U.S. has risen to thirty million or more. He claimed that the government had no grasp on the population of illegal immigrants, and that he s seen those estimates in several papers and other sources. The Department of Homeland Security disagreed, saying that their calculations of illegal immigrants took a lot of factors into account. Even with a plus or minus one million margin, there was no way possible for the number of illegal immigrants to have tripled without them knowing. Several other major research organizations agreed, saying they also came up with estimates very close to the eleven million estimate given. No one is really sure where exactly Trump got these outrageous and wildly inaccurate claims, but they are almost certain that he is incorrect. I think Trump will always be a racist figurehead, constantly spewing misinformation because he knows the general public will eat it up. He spent some time in probably what is mostly a white supremacist Texas town, and suddenly came back with unfounded overestimates of the population of illegal immigrants. A weak online presence is not good for a company because it results in lost opportunities. Online marketing is a huge part of business these days, and Wawa s lack thereof may be the cause of no knowledge about the store in Canada. Social media and online advertisement goes a long way with how prevalent people are on computers. The online market offers Wawa great opportunity for expansion. The amazing thing about the online market is that you can advertise to a much wider group of people for less expense than alternate ways. This would be a great way to spread awareness of the company before transitioning into a new economy where Wawa is unknown. Another great opportunity that has come with the upbringing of new technology is mobile shopping. Being able to shop on a mobile phone or laptop and have your products delivered is as convenient as a convenient store will ever get. This tactic by grocery and convenient stores has grown in popularity and attracts clients that do not have time to travel to the store. Threats involve stores that already play a large role in Canada such as Mac s, Hess ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 21. An Overview of Bilingual Education Essay Overview of Bilingual Education Is a second language a necessity in our world today? Should parents push for their child to learn two languages in elementary school? If we live in multicultural neighborhoods, trade with the global marketplace, and want to use all technology resources available, it is necessary to know two languages. Multilingual people and communities seem to have an edge over monolingual competition. This provides people of all ages an incentive to learn a second language (Genesee, 1998). In this research paper English and Spanish will be the languages referred to for bilingual education, although others are offered. Learning the first language at the same time as learning English is having a positive effect on both languages. At home the parents feel that they can communicate with their children, (p. 664) says a Khmer speaking teacher in Australia (Barrot Pugh Rohl, 2001). Khmer is spoken in all Australian homes and is practically required for children to learn. This program is not only for increasing cognitive skills, but also for students to communicate fully in their community and within their families. One in every four children in Australia speaks a language other than English. Australian children are encouraged and greatly supported by the community to learn a second language, which is why these numbers are so high. If the United States had the same motivation for their children, it would produce many more bilingual children. All children in the Khmer English program show parallel development in the two languages. Many kids accomplish this by using information from one language to assist the development of the other language. Learning Khmer gives the children a sense of identity in their home and culture (Barratt Pugh Rohl, 2001). This is a good example of a community using all its available resources, and hopefully Americans will learn from their enthusiasm. The single human mind isn t always born with several outrageous fears, but they are incorporated in during the journey of life. • 24. Summary Of The Poisonwood Bible Barbara Kingsolver s, The Poisonwood Bible, is a story about the lives of the Price Family women and how a year of missionary work while living in the Congo forever changed their lives. A very important aspect of the plot in The Poisonwood Bible is that the husband of the Price family, Nathan, is the entire reason for the story. His unyielding desire to become a missionary and carry out what he believed to be God s work is what led to the families living in the Congo and destroying the bonds the Prices had with each other. Throughout the story Nathan Price is presented as an arrogant southern Baptist preacher with a twisted sense of his place in the world. Having no regard for women as anything but housewives with little intelligence, he is depicted as an abusive husband and father. Nathan Price is described as being a changed man from his younger days. Fighting in WWII had changed him for life. In Contrast to this there is Brother Fowles, a foil to Nathan Price, who is a missionary that lived in Kilanga before the Price family came. He married an African woman and had stayed behind after warned to leave the Congo. His interpretations of the Bible and world perspective are more loosely guided than Nathan Prices. Brother Fowles is overall more liked than Nathan Price throughout the story. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... She enters a Witness Protection program, but an enforcer tracks her down. The goal of survival is clear and the stakes are life and death. There are several themes incorporated into the script about trust, revenge, justice, survival, and second chances. The plot also offers another coincidence with the idea that Megan s father was murdered and that Brown investigated it. Again, too many coincidences cause one to question the credibility of the plot. In this case, it s not clear how Megan s dad being murdered is relevant, or how it connects to the plotline. The backstory is left dangling for the audience. It s a serious backstory to have a parent murdered; yet there s no payoff for the reveal. Normally, a backstory has some emotional affect on the current storyline. For example, if Megan were home when her dad was killed and she was unable to protect and save him, then this could be a relevant inner conflict for her. She could carry the guilt about her father and now she has to learn to protect herself. Or in another example, if Megan were home when her dad was murdered, maybe she saw the killer and now years later he reappears. Regardless, the idea of the connection to Brown isn t clear and it s suggested to eliminate this connection unless there s a solid link to the present day storyline and the past. The opening sets the tone for a mobster story. It establishes that Nick is deadly. However, the scene isn t as tense or suspenseful as it could be. One reason for this is that the audience isn t emotionally invested in the owner of the bookshop and the dialogue and action doesn t create compelling enough tension. In The Flea, he showed the passion to his mistress via persuasive attitude. The tone might straightforwardly create playfulness or sinfulness; yet, the poem contains none of either. What impress readers most is situation and device. The situation between the speaker and the audience is persuasion, love or marriage. As to device, the notable parts are diction and rhetoric skills. One of Donne s most successful effects is sudden contrast.ii[ii] The insect seems to be no connection with romance, but by sucking blood of two characters of the poem, the flea builds a bridge between the two persons that surprises many readers. ¡¥The Flea seems particularly unerotic in character, extraordinarily preoccupied with ethical and social, particularly marital, matters¡K. but also transforms the sexual seduction lyric into a more serious persuasion to full affectionate and physical loving. iii[iii] The other is Donne s skill, dramatic monologue. In both line one of the first and the second stanzas, the poet began with strong voice. Later in the following lines of the two stanzas, Donne himself explained his reasons logically. The only difference is his attitude. The tone of stanza two is stronger than stanza one, and stanza three is even stronger than stanza two; therefore, in killing it the poet s mistress would commit, not only murder on him, a crime she is injured to, but suicide and sacrilege. iv[iv] To the end, The Flea describes a ... This strife is due to the monster and Victor s conflicting interests and results in a power struggle between the two. This power struggle is similar to one we see in real life, between the bourgeoisie and the working class, as they have a similar power dynamic (Wilson 116). Since the bourgeoisie are credited with the creation of the working class and have control over many aspects of their life, they have immense power over the workers, yet the workers have the strength in numbers to rise up and resist the bourgeoisie.
