Important To Me
ME: Is being a good team player important to you?
HIM: I believe being a team player involves acting in the best interest of the company, while
maintaining a stake in your own best interest and career. But in the fast paced world of Information
Technology and Managed Services being a team player is crucial for many reasons. To me, being a
team player is important because it creates synergy where the sum is ultimately greater than the parts,
and this helps to support a more empowered way of working, removing constraints which may prevent
someone doing their job properly. For my company this has also helped to promote flatter and leaner
structure, with less hierarchy.

Once we got the company rolling and started taking on clients my friend quickly realized that his
overhead was much more than he had intended for it to be this early on. And ultimately if we didn t
start taking on revenue quickly the boat was going to sink at harbor so to speak. To help with this I
offered to work for a stake in the company and cut my normal salary down to almost nothing until we
got the company back above water. This enabled him to bring on some lower level employees to help
with the day to day operations and let us focus on building the business further and gathering more
clientele. We took the company from a 150k startup to a little over 5 million in yearly revenue in a

living on a budget ultimately payed me out very nicely when we were acquired in our fourth year of

Grant Wood American Gothic
The painting American Gothic by Grant Wood is a painting with many meanings. Each artifact in the
in the painting has a large meaning. Grant Wood artwork is a painting of his sister and his dentist Dr.
B. H. Mckeeby. The house in the painting is the main influence of the painting. Wood had intended to
do a portrait of the Midwestern types but instead he saw the house which inspired the painting Wood
called American Gothic. The next object in the poem is the window. The window has an important
compositional element of the painting that was based upon the painting. The window has two equal
arches, capped by the oddly shaped pane that joins them together from the top. The roof of the house

The Anti-Hero In 1984 And The Party
Firstly, both novels share a dystopian and tyrannical setting. In 1984, the people of Oceania are
prohibited from speaking out against The Party , and many wouldn t dare to do so from the threat of
violent and potentially fatal retribution from the Thought Police. There are no actual laws, which
allows the Party to instil any policy whenever it desires with Big Brother s best interest in mind, so
that they can easily influence and in many cases command their people. In CWO, the police are
ruthless, immoral men, however crimes like robbery and rape are frequent because although the
society is brutally controlled, Alex and his gang spend their evenings rebelling an anarchic, riotous
way much like other gangs in the novel. This highlights the difference in the characterisation of the
anti hero in each novel, because although both novels are both set in a similar society in 1984 Winston
rebels in a secretive manner with a private diary and surreptitious sexual encounters with Julia,
whereas in a clockwork orange Alex is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

an activity where colleagues are seated in front of a huge telescreen, and shown videos and images of

exhilaration in the masses, until the cannot even be contained to their chairs, desperately screaming
with fury at the mere image of rebel leader Emmanuel Goldstein , citizens are then played a national

Essay on In Vitro Fertilization
In Vitro Fertilization (IVF) is a procedure that offers hope to couples who otherwise are unable to
conceive. This process is important to infertile couples because it gives them another chance of
conceiving a child. In order for normal pregnancy to occur, an egg is released from an ovary and
unites with a sperm in a fallopian tube. However, during the process of IVF, this union occurs in a
laboratory after both eggs and sperm have been collected. The fertilized egg is then transferred into
the uterus to continue growth. Tens of thousands of healthy children born into this world are the
results of IVF. Nevertheless, it is important for anyone considering IVF to fully understand the process
as well as its limitations. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The donor is now ready for the egg retrieval process. She is asked to come in one hour prior to the
scheduled egg retrieval. The woman puts on a hospital gown while tranquilizers and antibiotics are
given through an intravenous line. The cervix is also frozen with a local anesthetic to reduce the pain
of the procedure. The doctor will attach an aspiration needle to the ultrasound probe and advance it
though the vagina into the follicles of the ovary. The follicle fluid and eggs are aspirated into a test
tube and given to a laboratory personnel to search for eggs. The woman may leave in about two hours
after the sedatives have worn off.
The In Vitro Fertilization step continues if the doctor is fortunate enough to find eggs. Soon after the
doctor locates the eggs and collects sperm, he cultures the eggs in a plastic dish. During the actual In
Vitro Fertilization process, a mature egg mixes with the proper number of collected sperm, usually
about fifty thousand sperm. The following morning, the doctor examines the eggs under a microscope.
Fertilization is evident if the sperm amp;#8217;s genetic material is seen on a small area of the egg.
After successful fertilization, the doctor transfers the pre embryos into the woman amp;#8217;s
uterine cavity. A maximum of three embryos will be transferred for women less than thirty five years

Reverse Discrimination In College Admissions
In the 1960s governmental policy regarding minorities in society was started in a conclusion from the
social liberties developments. This was produced into results to balance separation towards minorities.
The arrangement has favored those gatherings of individuals that endured in the occupation,
instruction, and government parts. Other terms can used to describe affirmation action such as equal
opportunities and race based preferences. By allowing such a program like it, it has helped minorities
into professions that beforehand were hard or not allowed entry into. Of all the groups affected, the
group that was most positively affected would be white women. The purpose of this action is to strive
for equivalent open doors for everyone paying little heed to race or skin color. Race has always been a
controversial factor in the college admission process. Critics who are supportive of the action say that
colleges reach out toward minorities since they are the least diverse in the college environment. With
the demographic they display they are urged most of the time to apply for college admission. Often
these institutions offer some help to those minorities such ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

One threat that smallpox poses, is the use of it in biological warfare. According to Colette Flight, in
the 1990s the public discovered that Russia planned to turn smallpox into an effective weapon . A
smallpox outbreak could be devastating to the population without proper precautions. There were also
a few cases of smallpox outbreaks due to a patient being misdiagnosed. For example, Colette Flight
states, Muzza had been misdiagnosed as suffering from a bad reaction to penicillin . Colette also
states, Janet Parker was infected with smallpox, but was initially diagnosed as a drug rash . We can
learn from history that smallpox does spread easily. The Benedict test, is a test to determine whether a

Nitrogen Oxides Research Paper
What are nitrogen oxides?
Nitrogen oxides are a group of gases that are composed of nitrogen and oxygen. Two of the most
common nitrogen oxides are nitric oxide and nitrogen dioxide. The chemical formula for nitric oxide
is NO; for nitrogen dioxide, it is NO2. Nitrous oxide, N2O, is a greenhouse gas that contributes to
climate change.
Nitric oxide is a gas with a sharp, sweet smell; it is colorless to brown at room temperature. Nitrogen
dioxide is a colorless to brown liquid at room temperature, with a strong, harsh odor. It becomes a
reddish brown gas at temperatures above 70 degrees F.
Nitrogen oxides are released into the air from motor vehicle exhaust or the burning of coal, oil, diesel
fuel, and natural gas, especially from electric power plants. They are also released during industrial
processes such as ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Sulfur dioxide and nitrogen oxides react with precipitation, oxygen, and other substances in the
atmosphere to form acid rain.
Nitric oxide is used to bleach rayon and produce nitric acid. Nitrogen dioxide is used to produce
rocket fuels, explosives, and other chemicals. Nitrogen dioxide is sometimes used to bleach flour.
How might I be exposed to nitrogen oxides?
Nitrogen oxides are common pollutants found in most of the air in the United States. You can be
exposed to nitrogen oxides outdoors by breathing air that contains it, especially if you live near a coal
burning electric power plant or areas with heavy motor vehicle traffic. You can be exposed to higher
levels if air pollution and smog levels are high.
You can be exposed at home if you burn wood or use a kerosene heater or gas stove.
You can be exposed at home or at work, indoors or outdoors, through smoking cigarettes or breathing
second hand cigarette smoke.
You can be exposed at work if you work in a facility that produces nitric acid, explosives such as

Relocating Apple To Brazil. After Detailed Investigation
Relocating Apple to Brazil
After detailed investigation of both Kenya and Brazil, my choice for the relocation of Apple remains
Brazil for numerous reasons. Brazil is a hotbed of opportunity for those interested in doing business
internationally. From a general view point, Brazil is well developed in areas of agricultural, mining,
manufacturing, and service industries. It has been expanding into the world markets and now export

Firstly, the currency has lost a lot of value compared to the U.S. dollar, the companies in Brazil (Sao
Paulo) are very cheap for American investors. The implication of this is evident and clearly beneficial
to Apple. Since Apple provide its services through third party companies, it would be cheaper to buy
the services of these companies in Sao Paulo thereby decreasing the running cost as a result the cost of
production of Apples products there by increasing the profit margin.
Secondly, the abundance of business resources in Sao Paulo make it an inevitable attractive factor for
companies wishing to settle or relocate in Brazil. As the largest city in Brazil, São Paulo counts about
20 million residents, and startups are naturally scattered across neighborhoods. The plenty resources
available is Sao Paulo include young and Startup s, variety of companies, from tech to farming, who
all present an already made market for Apple products. The huge number of skilled workers would
provide the employee needs of Apple thereby a great possibility of increasing its services to the public.
In addition, the cultural diversity of Sao Paulo strongly influences my decision of choosing the
location for the Relocation of Apple. Brazil is among the most racially diverse countries in the world,
with about 47 percent white citizens and 43

Rhetorical Analysis Of Ronald Reagan s Challenger Disaster...
On January 28th, 1986, the Challenger shuttle exploded shortly after liftoff killing all seven of the
crew members. Almost everyone in America, including hundreds of thousands of schoolchildren were
watching. This disaster meant that Ronald Reagan would have to address the issue. He answered this
call with the Challenger Disaster Address. In this speech, he not only comforted the families of the
astronauts, but also the rest of the nation by rebuilding faith in the space program. Reagan exibited
empathy in his tone, while keeping a strong demeanor. He demonstrated empathy in many ways. The
first is when he says Nancy and I are pained to the core. He not only shows that he is hurt by this
statement, but also his wife, First Lady Nancy. From there, he goes on to say We share this pain with
all of the people of our country. Reagan expands his subject to all of America as he also shows that
even though he is the president, he still feels pain. He then talks about the significance of the
Challenger Disaster and how, in the past 19 years, Americans never witnessed anything like this
happen to an American shuttle after it had been launched. He does, however, point out that the

Julius Caesar Evil
Shakespeare s tragedy Julius Caesar takes place in Rome at the time of Caesar s assassination. After
Caesar returns home, he is hailed as a war hero, and the citizens of Rome plan to crown him as their
ruler. Cassius, knowing Caesar will soon become a tyrant, convinces the honorable and well respected
Brutus, a good friend of Caesar, to murder him for the good of the city. Although many consider Julius
Caesar the hero of the play, Brutus is the true Shakespearean tragic hero. This is proven first by his
inherently honorable character. Furthermore, Brutus s loyalty, which in most cases is considered a
virtue, becomes a sin within the context of the story. Lastly, Brutus becomes blind to reality, believing
the murder of Caesar is a good and necessary act.
First and foremost, Brutus is proven to be a tragic hero by his good character. Brutus, unlike Caesar, is
a humble man, known in the town to be loyal and put others before himself. For example, while
Cassius attempts to rile Brutus up over Caesar s newfound fame, he argues the point that Brutus has an
inherent right to the throne. Brutus responds to this by saying that [he] had rather be a villager / Than
to repute himself a son of Rome (Shakespeare 1.2.180 181). While Caesar is so intoxicated by the
attention and fame he receives that he agrees to rule without any critical thinking, Brutus, not blinded
by greed or pride, is able to clearly see that taking on this power would not be wise. Very few would
be able to resist this opportunity to be at the center of all this praise, but Brutus is both humble and
wise enough to turn down what should be his role because he realizes the ability to be worshipped is
not enough to make a leader. Although literary critic Harold Bloom argues that Brutus is ... morally
rather vain ... [and] powerfully self centered (1 2), it is proven throughout the novel that Brutus has
practically no ego and puts the needs of the Romans before his own. Brutus is modest, intelligent, and
at his center, a good person.
Another characteristic of Brutus that defines him as a tragic hero is his virtue of loyalty to Rome used
as a sin. The night before Caesar s downfall, Brutus receives an abundance of letters, declaring Caesar
unfit to be

What Are The Fundamental Types Of Decisions That Financial...
1. Identify three fundamental types of decisions that financial managers make and identify which part
of the balance sheet each of these decisions affects. 1)Capital budgeting : Capital budgeting is the
decision which is important in long term. In a business, it is required to asses and evaluate potential
capital or investments. That would leads a company to have maximized benefits. Building new
facilities or expanding a training program are one of the examples. Long term assets is categorized as
this type of fundamental decision in balance sheet. 2) Financing : Financing is the decision of how to
pay for both short term and long term assets. That helps a determination how much for each term debt
and equity the best would be. Long term debt and Stockholders equity are regarded as the parts of
Financing. 3)Working Capital : Working Capital is considering what the best way would be in terms of
a management for short term resources and obligations. The concept of this decision focuses on if it is
possible to maintain enough capital for payments of its bills including and extra money earned as
interest. Current assets and current liabilities are considered as the part of this decision. 1. Why is
stock value maximization superior to profit maximization as a goal for management? Stock value
maximization is pretty significant to a company since it can be told about the company such as an
reputation. Companies cannot exist by themselves. They do need a lot of money or

Christmas Carol endorses the notion that all people have a responsibility to ensure the safety and

Analysis Of How A Woman Can Get Hurt By Jean Kilbourne
Two Ways a Woman Can Get Hurt , an article by Jean Kilbourne bitterly rags on sex in advertisement.
It goes into detail to describe how companies have become increasingly more likely to sell sex in
advertisements for products that, in reality, are entirely unrelated. Kilbourne focuses primarily on how
this is harmful to society especially women and children and how they are viewed by men, though
men may also be targeted if not nearly as frequently. In a similar article called Taking a Bite Out of
Twilight , Carmen D. Siering shares her disapproval of the popular novel adored by so many:
Twilight. Represented by the iconic red apple held in a women s palm with a sinister black backdrop,
Twilight is a modern fairytale where the prince belongs to a monstrous society of blood sucking
models, and the princess is your average, plain Jane highschool girl with a knack for getting into
trouble. Siering s opinion is most basically this: Bella is objectified and downgraded in the Twilight
series; a character created solely to compliment the plot propelled by male characters. Where the
majority of the population sees an aching, beautiful and dangerous romance, Siering sees a controlling
relationship and a dull female lead. Kilbourne s article brings to light how Siering s article, directed at
Stephenie Meyer s readers, is so accurate with the the recommendation that everyone become more
aware of the messages they are absorbing from media as it snakes its way into society s

Best Explanations In Aristotle s Debate

An animal or plant is an organic whole, a complicated system of interrelated capacities ( Aristotle on
Teleological Explanation , pg. 76), which serve as self maintaining, according to Aristotle. He also
believes that this capacity to maintain functional states through self nutrition and to propagate them
through reproduction is the mark that sets off the living from the lifeless ( Aristotle on Teleological
Explanation , pg. 76) and also means that the facility to ingest and use food is essential for life. He
claims that self nutrition, with reproduction, is the first and most common capacity of soul, the one in
virtue of which life belongs to all that has life ( Aristotle on Teleological Explanation , pg. 76).
Describing more upon his elucidation of this subject matter, Aristotle looks deeply at what, in essence,
makes life, saying that the parts of a plant, like the parts of an animal, are for the sake of life (

Attachment, The Key Factor That Promote The Attachment Essay
This essay will explain the definition of attachment, the key factor that promote the attachment and
discuss the theory of attachment, including deprivation and privation. Attachment is an emotional and
affectional tie or bonds that one person or animal forms between himself and another specific one.
Children`s attachment is mostly based on the children`s sensitivity and understanding of the mother`s
honesty in providing comfort, support and security. In addition, behaviours of the child that build up
attachment and give the opportunity for showing contact between mother and child can include
breastfeeding, which means relaxing the baby and independent, co sleeping, kangaroo care, smelly
mother, talking, and smiling to baby, physical touching and hugging, and playing with baby. (Simply
Psychology) The important attachment factor is oxytocin between mother and baby. The nipple
stimulation that happens when baby causes a hormone called oxytocin to be free in the mother, which
in turns trigger milk let down. The oxytocin makes mother to become intimate with her newborn baby
and makes them to attach to each other. Babies can similarly imprint on their mother, deriving feelings
of peace and pain reduction along with mother. Similarly, Freud believed that baby s instinctive needs
such as food and security are pleases by mother, who then becomes desire in her own right.
Behaviourists also see babies as becoming attached to those who satisfy their needs. However,

T. Boone Pickens created the Pickens Plan with the intention of reducing the international use of oil.
Pickens Plan states that by using natural gas in the place of oil, imported oil demands would drop by

the U.S. s damaged economy. However, Pickens idea, like every alternative oil plan, has its flaws. If

economy. As of now, the U.S. demand of oil is at an equilibrium with the oil being supplied. If the
U.S. demand of oil dropped dramatically, as Pickens Plan says it should, oil supplying countries would
scramble to compensate for lost profits. In theory with the supply and demand model, the cost and
supply of oil would skyrocket, while demand would be nonexistent. Since oil would be so costly,
countries that purchase oil would be unable to afford it anymore, resulting in an even higher increase
of prices and steeper decrease of consumers. With the loss of the U.S. as a consumer, the economies of
these countries would suffer; this suffering would then spread worldwide, affecting everyone

The Role Of Economic Development As Measured Through Levels
Gender inequality has been and is still a problem being faced worldwide. It has inhibited the social,
economical, and political growth of women in all different nations, especially third world
countries. There are various implications that change the level of inequality such as education, culture,
religion, democratization of countries, years of independence, and most importantly, economic
development. (Dollar Gatti, 1999). This paper is examining the role economic development as
measured through levels GDP (low, medium, high) plays in the level of gender empowerment in a
country. After reading various studies, I have concluded that when regarding gender empowerment it
is specific to the empowerment of women It is hypothesized that increased economic development
will display higher levels of gender empowerment. The following three literature reviews will
demonstrate and support the hypothesis. The first article, Gender Inequality, Income, and Growth: Are
Good Times Good for Women? by David Dollar and Roberta Gotti, is a cumulated work that was
published by The World Bank under the Development Research Group. Dollar and Roberti addressed
three specific questions that they felt were strong factors in the implications economic development
brought upon gender empowerment. The questions were constructed in efforts to respond to the
macroeconomic data revealed through its answers. The questions are: 1. Is lower investment in girls
education simply an efficient economic

Favorite Characters In The Hiding Place By Corrie Ten Boom
While reading The Hiding Place, I was frequently inspired by the power and insight behind Corrie ten
Boom s words. However, two of her statements particularly stood out to me. The first was when she
had said Some knowledge is too heavy... you cannot bear it...your father will carry it until you are
able. (ten Boom 175) This phrase is so meaningful because it was a lesson she had learned from her
own father when she was young, but now she uses it in her own teaching and relates it to her heavenly
father as well. The second quote that stood out to me was when she had said His will is our hiding
place. Lord Jesus, keep me in Your will. (ten Boom 234) This statement refers to Corrie s realization
of how everything had happened for a reason. This was her protection or hiding place through the
horrors of the concentration camp and her personal losses. I found these two quotes to be the most
perceptive phrases of Corrie s that spoke to me the most. My favorite character in The Hiding Place
would undeniably be Corrie s older sister, Betsie ten Boom. Betsie ten Boom was portrayed with an
incredible sense of optimism and faith that could shine a light at the darkest of times. Another quality I
admired was her merciful heart that managed to feel sorrow for enemies and be quick to forgive.
Betsie s positivity, forgiveness and faithfulness all contributed to create a remarkable personality and
character in this particular novel.

Intercultural Communication
With the growing of globalization, opportunities of intercultural communication become more
common to individuals everyday life. Thus, it is of vital importance that people understand linguistic
relativity and language ideologies in order to avoid misunderstandings and achieve effective
intercultural communication.
First of all, understanding linguistic relativity encourages people to pay attention to differences
between various languages. How people perceive and experience the world around them can be
influenced by language differences. (Piller, 2011) For example, people may act differently depending
on what languages they are using. Daniel Oh explained that in Korea, people need to use honorifics in
sentences when they speak to people ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Another aspect of linguistic relativity is communicative relativity. A simple way to define
communicative relativity is that people do different things with language differently . (Piller, 2011) On
one hand, it is obvious that multilingual people tend to switch languages when talking to people from
different cultures. On the other hand, differentiation in language can also take place in the
monolingual situation. For instance, in the scene of debating, people may use a very different form of
English than usual. Kyle Ritchie said that the words, tone, and even speaking styles used by myself
and fellow debaters was purely for the performance . (reflection, May 1, 2017) This kind of choices of
words and tone is aimed to be more professional and knowledgeable (reflection, May 1, 2017)
Therefore, different ways of expression in various languages or even the same language can have a
different effect on communication. To succeed in intercultural communication, it is necessary for
individuals to understand the distinctive way each language has to perceive the world and express
ideas and make right decisions of using language.
In addition, in the intercultural communication, discrimination associated with language ideologies
often exists. Language ideology refers to the views on each language, especially the idea about what a
good language is and what is linguistically right . (Piller, 2011) Some

Analysis Of Diving Into The Wreck By Adrienne Rich
Is it possible for words on a page to become a painting in the mind? After plunging into Adrienne Rich
s Diving into the Wreck, it is apparent that words on a page can come to life in the mind of the
readers. Rich uses a vast amount of describing words, and a setting of a scuba diver to allow readers
the ability to acknowledge and understand the difficulties life may imply upon humankind.
Throughout the next few paragraphs, it is evident that certain elements of poems can become a large
factor in allowing the reader to get more out of a poem, rather than just words on a page. In summary,
Adrienne Rich gives the reader a depiction of a person dealing with one or even many difficult
intricacies in life through the symbolization of scuba diving in a large body of water (Mays, 2014,
p.581). Whether that be national issues, personal relationships, the death of those close by, or even
more personal issues, the reader is able to relate with Rich s symbolization of a scuba diver getting
ready for an intense journey through a large, dark body of water. Scuba diving into a shipwreck is an
abstract way to relate the thoughts people bottle up inside their bodies into a larger, more meaningful
picture, which allows the reader to understand how issues weigh on the mind. In addition, Rich doesn
t just use simple words to create a symbolization, she precedes or follows those words with
meaningful adjectives which help to create a clearer appearance for the reader to imagine. In the

Osama Bin Laden Thesis
From a western perspective, Osama Bin Laden in nothing more than an inhuman murderer, therefore
no one spends time to investigate why he does what he does, and for what reasons thousands of people
sacrificed their lives for his cause, however, a quick glimpse through his excerpt shows that he does
have an ideology that can be very appealing to a large number of people, any person that feels targeted
by the United States can potentially find his claims to be persuasive, therefore, Bin Laden is not
simply an insane man, he is smart man that was successful in gathering thousands around him despite
being fought in every single aspect.
First, Bin Laden smartly used the United States controversial foreign policy to argue that its presence

Bin Laden, throughout his piece, frequently used Ibn Taymiyya quotes to add a religious legitimacy to
his claim, what s problematic is that Ibn Taymiyyah was a controversial Sufi that was imprisoned
several times, one of which was for being accused of anthropomorphism (ascribing human
characteristics to God) and for having criticized, contemptuously, the legitimacy of dogmatic theology
(Laoust). Ibn Taymiyya clearly stands in opposition to al Qaeda s Salafists jihadists doctrine, which
empathizes the principle of the absoluteness of God and his image. One of Ibn Taymiyya s quotes Bin
Laden used was if the danger to religion from not fighting is greater than that of fighting, then it is a
duty to fight even if the intentions of some of the fighters are not pure (Zaman 443), this quote goes
against Prophet Muhammad s teachings and emphasis on good intention, he once said actions are
according to intentions, and everyone will get what was intended , in this case, if some of the fighters
would participate in fighting the USA for the sake of killing soldiers (bad intention), then they are
simply considered murders, and such actions should obviously not be encouraged in the name of
religion, which invalidates Ibn Taymiyya s

Courageous Conversations About Race by Glenn E. Singleton...
Courageous Conversations About Race: Chapter 5
Authors Glenn E. Singleton and Curtis Linton in Chapter Five of Courageous Conversations About
Race broach the topic of race, by asking the reader to evaluate his or her own consciousness of race.
According to the authors, in order to address the achievement gaps between African American
students and White students, educators should shift their energy towards focusing on the factors that
they have direct control of inside the classroom rather than on the factors that influence this
achievement disparity between races outside the classroom.
The first step towards addressing the racial achievement gap begins with educators addressing his or

Growing up in Park Ridge, Illinois was significantly different from where I was born in Morristown,
New Jersey. One of the most startling differences was apparent in the make up of the student body. In
Morristown, I attended an elementary school with a diverse student body; many of my schoolmates
were African American and I remember even at a young age, students regardless of race interacting all
together without any sense of stigma attached to it. In that sense, while attending elementary school,
since it was the norm to have friends of different races, I did not think very much of my race.
However, in contrast to living in Morristown, when I moved to Park Ridge, Illinois at the start of
middle school, I will never forget meeting my classmates for the first time only to realize not one was
of a different race. In fact, there was not one African American in my entire middle school! This was
shocking to me. Transferring from a diverse school community to a completely homogenous school
community made me more aware of my race simply because there

Essay on The Social Construction of Gender Roles
The Social Construction of Gender Roles Gender or sex roles are the expected patterns of behavior
assumed to follow from a person s sex. Gender roles are not natural. They are formed by and vary
within society, culture, geographic location, politics and time. There is a strong relationship between
the social construction of gender and compulsory heterosexuality. People are programmed into certain
gender roles and social categories through socialization and interaction with others. Expectations
about appropriate gender role characteristics and sexual behavior have evolved throughout history,
especially for women. In the 1700 s and 1800 s, the men s role included earning an ... Show more

They were paid considerably less than men and had the dual role of housewife.
In 1920, women won the right to vote and they were gradually moving into the male dominated labor
force, but gender roles were not changing much. Due to the World War II draft, many women entered
the labor force and even helped run the country. Upon the return of the veterans, many women were
forced back into their homes. However, the opportunities for women were broadening and some
women began making careers for themselves outside of the home. The 1960 s saw many feminist
movements and in 1963 the Equal Pay Act was passed by Congress which enticed more women to get
out of the house and into better careers.
Men had difficulties accepting and adjusting to changes in women s roles. They had to adjust to
having women around them at their job sites and some felt that women were filling positions that an
unemployed man should have been given. Men also felt that the traditional male role as provider was
being threatened, so some men did not allow their wives to enter the labor force. Most men, however,
have gradually accepted women in the career world. Today, men are even taking on roles that were
once deemed female like nursing, homemaking and teaching.
There are many social agents that cause the construction of gender roles. Parents and family are
important socialization agents in the gender role development of children. They have different values
and attitudes regarding male

Essay on An Evaluation of Grease
An Evaluation of Grease
My film that I choose was Grease because it contains music, dancing and humor. It is a cross between
comedy and teen movies. It is a tribute to the Broadway show of the 1950 s. It was directed by Randal
Klieser and was released on July 7th 1978. The music and dance scenes are what attracted me to
Grease. My favorite characters are John Travolta and Jeff Conaway who play Danny and Kenickie. I
like these two because they are your typical high school popular boys who are always looking out for
each other, looking good and they are always trying to get the beautiful girls but at the same time
acting cool like it doesn t bother them. I had high expectations of Grease and I ... Show more content

Secondly genre is the French word meaning type. Genres may be approached by way of various
critical avenues. In the Aristotelian strain we recognize genres as kinds within a system of
classification. These categories beg further definition, so there is a history of, on the one hand, the
refinement of divisions and subdivisions, and on the other a Platonic search for the essential qualities
of tragedy, comedy, epic poetry, and so forth. By the recognition of genres we begin to find our way in
the universe of verbal artifacts with their feigned discourses, and to train our expectations upon the
experience that lies in wait for us. Grease s genre is a hybrid genre because it is a cross between a
comedy, a teen movie and romantic.
Lastly representation is the act of representing or the state of being represented. Also it is something
that represents an image, an account or statement, an expostulation or a presentation or production.
For example the representation of the characters in Grease varies. Sandy is portrayed as a pure and
innocent girl but on the other hand Rizzo is portrayed as a bad girl who is always getting into trouble
and won t take anything from no one. Also Rizzo is sometimes mean to Sandy

gland is a vital important hormonal gland which is responsible for metabolism, growth and helping the
human body. It helps to regulate many body functions by constantly releasing hormones into the

Famous Writer
Annie Dillard was born on April 30, 1945 as Meta Ann Doak in Pittsburgh,
Pennsylvania. She was pushed by her high school teachers and attended Hollins College in
Roanoke, Virginia. Dillard studied literature and creative writing. Sometime in her first two years at
school she met Richard Dillard, who she would be engaged to marry her sophomore year of college.
After she graduated, she married and moved in with her husband. She experimented with all types of
art including painting, drawing, and writing poems (Biography). In 1974, she published Pilgrim at

. . Graham Greene, [and] George Eliot (Annie).
After graduating from Hollins College and getting a house with her husband, a creek called
Tinker Creek, the creek became a source of ideas and a book s title, Pilgrim at Tinker Creek.
Many of Dillard s essays are focused on life, death and their relationship with nature. It is unclear why
she writes so much about death because she had not experienced death close to her when she was
writing.
Dillard was born in 1945, a very important year in America. She was born on the exact day Hitler
killed himself. Just days after, World War II ended on May 8th. Dillard grew up in a time of economic
prosperity. The 50 s were marked by the red scare, Elvis, conservative yet social people, and the
Korean War. In the 60 s, when Dillard was 15
24, Dillard saw anti
Cubism, the Civil Rights Movement,
the assassinations of President Kennedy and Dr.
Martin Luther King Jr, and the first man on the moon. She grew up in a very diverse time where
emotions were high then broken down after the assassinations. It was a time that would have
influenced her writing very much, especially because she was young and people tend to be more
influenced by things when they are young.
Dillard is a favorite of critics because she is the youngest to woman to the win Pulitzer prize. Her
writing has a deep knowledge of subjects from many categories of scientific and theological
scholarship (McCleary). Dillard s writing is very appealing to

The Trafficking Of A Global Economy
Human trafficking in a global economy has resulted in the commodification of human souls. In this
nomenclature of institutionalized proliferation of terror in a post conflict, post communist
democratized Bosnia and Herzegovina (BIH), the trafficking of women has become a manifestation of
the grosser changes evolved by globalization in the mainstream market culture of the sex trade. As
Bosnia entered into bloodshed with the members of former Yugoslavia between the years of 1992
1995, the cleansing of non Serbs from Bosnian territory would later be known as one of the largest
massacres and acts of genocide in history (Srebrenica). Leaving the nation so tattered by post war

Further, with Bosnia s postsocialist change, pornographic directors, brothel owners and pimps seeking
new talent for sex tourism amongst others, congregated to the war torn states to sell, buy and negotiate
other business deals with former Yugoslavs desperately seeking to improve their own circumstances .
Another factor that greatly influenced the influx of trafficking in Eastern Europe has been the
rearrangement of the international labor market and of social inequalities including nationality, gender,
race, class and citizenship that have differentially shaped this reorganisation of the labor market . It is
cofounding how essential class is as a variable in sex trafficking, subdivided into the following:
poverty, urban and rural areas. In this crossroads of east and west and with the fall of Balkan
territories it suddenly became easier and cheaper to move women from Eastern to Western Europe . As
traffickers capitalized on porous borders and relied on political and military instability to glide across
states without interruption, allow traffickers to create supply chains to satisfy the growing demands for
sex workers across the Balkans and Eastern Europe.
The gendered nature of the trade conceptualizes from laws, customs and taxes that have historically
and universally disseminated the economic exploitation of female sex work . This gender biased
discrimination often

Analysis Of Gabriell Needham s The Killing Fields
Gabriell Needham, Making of the Modern World I found the film, The Killing Fields , very moving.
There were countless scenes where my heart melted and I felt as if I could feel the pain of the innocent
Cambodians in a minute sense. There is absolutely no way I could ever imagine what it was like to
live though such a brutal and emotional part of history. The actors who portrayed individuals in the
film seemed to be very connected and the relationship between Pran and Sydney was brilliantly
displayed. Throughout the movie, I was genuinely intrigued. I think that the friendship between Pran
and Sydney captured my attention well and it made the rest of the movie very emotional and
meaningful. Even though Pran could have ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Lastly, I feel as if Pran finished the movie as a hero. After Pran escaped from the re education camp,
he came across a family consisting of Khmer Rouge official and his son. Even though the official
knew Pran was against the revolution, which would normally be very deadly knowledge, he let him
stay because his son had grown attached to him. The official thought that it was time for his son to
leave because the war was starting to get worse so he left him under the care of Pran. The boy s father
was eventually killed and Pran took the young boy and carried him through a mine filled jungle along
with a few other soldiers in hopes of giving him a new life. I was surprised by the fact that the Khmer
Rouge official allowed Pran to be around his son in the first place. I found the leader to be very easy
going considering that he did not have Pran killed when he learned that he could speak French. I feel
as if the official knew that the war was turning into something that had gotten way out of control and
before he could stop the madness, it was too late.
Cambodia was torn to shreds when Pol Pot s regime took over. As seen in the movie, so many
innocent people were killed by ruthless soldiers and U.S. bombs. Cambodians were forced to leave
their homes with as little as possible. They were assured that they would be taken care of and that they
did not need to bring much of anything since Angkor would provide for them. Thousands of people

  • 2. Important To Me ME: Is being a good team player important to you? HIM: I believe being a team player involves acting in the best interest of the company, while maintaining a stake in your own best interest and career. But in the fast paced world of Information Technology and Managed Services being a team player is crucial for many reasons. To me, being a team player is important because it creates synergy where the sum is ultimately greater than the parts, and this helps to support a more empowered way of working, removing constraints which may prevent someone doing their job properly. For my company this has also helped to promote flatter and leaner structure, with less hierarchy. ME: That s great, is there anything else you find important about being a ... Once we got the company rolling and started taking on clients my friend quickly realized that his overhead was much more than he had intended for it to be this early on. And ultimately if we didn t start taking on revenue quickly the boat was going to sink at harbor so to speak. To help with this I offered to work for a stake in the company and cut my normal salary down to almost nothing until we got the company back above water. This enabled him to bring on some lower level employees to help with the day to day operations and let us focus on building the business further and gathering more clientele. We took the company from a 150k startup to a little over 5 million in yearly revenue in a little over 3 years. But my sacrifice for the team which caused me tons of headaches and months of living on a budget ultimately payed me out very nicely when we were acquired in our fourth year of operations by the company You and I both work for ... • 4. The Anti-Hero In 1984 And The Party Firstly, both novels share a dystopian and tyrannical setting. In 1984, the people of Oceania are prohibited from speaking out against The Party , and many wouldn t dare to do so from the threat of violent and potentially fatal retribution from the Thought Police. There are no actual laws, which allows the Party to instil any policy whenever it desires with Big Brother s best interest in mind, so that they can easily influence and in many cases command their people. In CWO, the police are ruthless, immoral men, however crimes like robbery and rape are frequent because although the society is brutally controlled, Alex and his gang spend their evenings rebelling an anarchic, riotous way much like other gangs in the novel. This highlights the difference in the characterisation of the anti hero in each novel, because although both novels are both set in a similar society in 1984 Winston rebels in a secretive manner with a private diary and surreptitious sexual encounters with Julia, whereas in a clockwork orange Alex is ... Almost everyone in America, including hundreds of thousands of schoolchildren were watching. This disaster meant that Ronald Reagan would have to address the issue. He answered this call with the Challenger Disaster Address. In this speech, he not only comforted the families of the astronauts, but also the rest of the nation by rebuilding faith in the space program. Reagan exibited empathy in his tone, while keeping a strong demeanor. He demonstrated empathy in many ways. The first is when he says Nancy and I are pained to the core. He not only shows that he is hurt by this statement, but also his wife, First Lady Nancy. From there, he goes on to say We share this pain with all of the people of our country. Reagan expands his subject to all of America as he also shows that even though he is the president, he still feels pain. He then talks about the significance of the Challenger Disaster and how, in the past 19 years, Americans never witnessed anything like this happen to an American shuttle after it had been launched. • 12. Julius Caesar Evil Shakespeare s tragedy Julius Caesar takes place in Rome at the time of Caesar s assassination. After Caesar returns home, he is hailed as a war hero, and the citizens of Rome plan to crown him as their ruler. Cassius, knowing Caesar will soon become a tyrant, convinces the honorable and well respected Brutus, a good friend of Caesar, to murder him for the good of the city. Although many consider Julius Caesar the hero of the play, Brutus is the true Shakespearean tragic hero. This is proven first by his inherently honorable character. Furthermore, Brutus s loyalty, which in most cases is considered a virtue, becomes a sin within the context of the story. Lastly, Brutus becomes blind to reality, believing the murder of Caesar is a good and necessary act. First and foremost, Brutus is proven to be a tragic hero by his good character. Brutus, unlike Caesar, is a humble man, known in the town to be loyal and put others before himself. For example, while Cassius attempts to rile Brutus up over Caesar s newfound fame, he argues the point that Brutus has an inherent right to the throne. Brutus responds to this by saying that [he] had rather be a villager / Than to repute himself a son of Rome (Shakespeare 1.2.180 181). While Caesar is so intoxicated by the attention and fame he receives that he agrees to rule without any critical thinking, Brutus, not blinded by greed or pride, is able to clearly see that taking on this power would not be wise. Very few would be able to resist this opportunity to be at the center of all this praise, but Brutus is both humble and wise enough to turn down what should be his role because he realizes the ability to be worshipped is not enough to make a leader. Although literary critic Harold Bloom argues that Brutus is ... morally rather vain ... [and] powerfully self centered (1 2), it is proven throughout the novel that Brutus has practically no ego and puts the needs of the Romans before his own. Kilbourne focuses primarily on how this is harmful to society especially women and children and how they are viewed by men, though men may also be targeted if not nearly as frequently. In a similar article called Taking a Bite Out of Twilight , Carmen D. Siering shares her disapproval of the popular novel adored by so many: Twilight. Represented by the iconic red apple held in a women s palm with a sinister black backdrop, Twilight is a modern fairytale where the prince belongs to a monstrous society of blood sucking models, and the princess is your average, plain Jane highschool girl with a knack for getting into trouble. Siering s opinion is most basically this: Bella is objectified and downgraded in the Twilight series; a character created solely to compliment the plot propelled by male characters. Where the majority of the population sees an aching, beautiful and dangerous romance, Siering sees a controlling relationship and a dull female lead. Attachment, The Key Factor That Promote The Attachment Essay This essay will explain the definition of attachment, the key factor that promote the attachment and discuss the theory of attachment, including deprivation and privation. Attachment is an emotional and affectional tie or bonds that one person or animal forms between himself and another specific one. Children`s attachment is mostly based on the children`s sensitivity and understanding of the mother`s honesty in providing comfort, support and security. In addition, behaviours of the child that build up attachment and give the opportunity for showing contact between mother and child can include breastfeeding, which means relaxing the baby and independent, co sleeping, kangaroo care, smelly mother, talking, and smiling to baby, physical touching and hugging, and playing with baby. The nipple stimulation that happens when baby causes a hormone called oxytocin to be free in the mother, which in turns trigger milk let down. The oxytocin makes mother to become intimate with her newborn baby and makes them to attach to each other. Babies can similarly imprint on their mother, deriving feelings of peace and pain reduction along with mother. However, two of her statements particularly stood out to me. The first was when she had said Some knowledge is too heavy... you cannot bear it...your father will carry it until you are able. (ten Boom 175) This phrase is so meaningful because it was a lesson she had learned from her own father when she was young, but now she uses it in her own teaching and relates it to her heavenly father as well. The second quote that stood out to me was when she had said His will is our hiding place. Lord Jesus, keep me in Your will. (ten Boom 234) This statement refers to Corrie s realization of how everything had happened for a reason. This was her protection or hiding place through the horrors of the concentration camp and her personal losses. I found these two quotes to be the most perceptive phrases of Corrie s that spoke to me the most. My favorite character in The Hiding Place would undeniably be Corrie s older sister, Betsie ten Boom. Betsie ten Boom was portrayed with an incredible sense of optimism and faith that could shine a light at the darkest of times. Thus, it is of vital importance that people understand linguistic relativity and language ideologies in order to avoid misunderstandings and achieve effective intercultural communication. First of all, understanding linguistic relativity encourages people to pay attention to differences between various languages. How people perceive and experience the world around them can be influenced by language differences. (Piller, 2011) For example, people may act differently depending on what languages they are using. Another aspect of linguistic relativity is communicative relativity. A simple way to define communicative relativity is that people do different things with language differently . (Piller, 2011) On one hand, it is obvious that multilingual people tend to switch languages when talking to people from different cultures. On the other hand, differentiation in language can also take place in the monolingual situation. For instance, in the scene of debating, people may use a very different form of English than usual. Kyle Ritchie said that the words, tone, and even speaking styles used by myself and fellow debaters was purely for the performance . Rich uses a vast amount of describing words, and a setting of a scuba diver to allow readers the ability to acknowledge and understand the difficulties life may imply upon humankind. Throughout the next few paragraphs, it is evident that certain elements of poems can become a large factor in allowing the reader to get more out of a poem, rather than just words on a page. In summary, Adrienne Rich gives the reader a depiction of a person dealing with one or even many difficult intricacies in life through the symbolization of scuba diving in a large body of water (Mays, 2014, p.581). Whether that be national issues, personal relationships, the death of those close by, or even more personal issues, the reader is able to relate with Rich s symbolization of a scuba diver getting ready for an intense journey through a large, dark body of water. Scuba diving into a shipwreck is an abstract way to relate the thoughts people bottle up inside their bodies into a larger, more meaningful picture, which allows the reader to understand how issues weigh on the mind. My favorite characters are John Travolta and Jeff Conaway who play Danny and Kenickie. I like these two because they are your typical high school popular boys who are always looking out for each other, looking good and they are always trying to get the beautiful girls but at the same time acting cool like it doesn t bother them. I had high expectations of Grease and I ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Secondly genre is the French word meaning type. Genres may be approached by way of various critical avenues. In the Aristotelian strain we recognize genres as kinds within a system of classification. These categories beg further definition, so there is a history of, on the one hand, the refinement of divisions and subdivisions, and on the other a Platonic search for the essential qualities of tragedy, comedy, epic poetry, and so forth. By the recognition of genres we begin to find our way in the universe of verbal artifacts with their feigned discourses, and to train our expectations upon the experience that lies in wait for us. Grease s genre is a hybrid genre because it is a cross between a comedy, a teen movie and romantic. Lastly representation is the act of representing or the state of being represented. Also it is something that represents an image, an account or statement, an expostulation or a presentation or production. For example the representation of the characters in Grease varies. Sandy is portrayed as a pure and innocent girl but on the other hand Rizzo is portrayed as a bad girl who is always getting into trouble and won t take anything from no one. Also Rizzo is sometimes mean to Sandy ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

After graduating from Hollins College and getting a house with her husband, a creek called Tinker Creek, the creek became a source of ideas and a book s title, Pilgrim at Tinker Creek. Many of Dillard s essays are focused on life, death and their relationship with nature. It is unclear why she writes so much about death because she had not experienced death close to her when she was writing. Dillard was born in 1945, a very important year in America. She was born on the exact day Hitler killed himself. Just days after, World War II ended on May 8th. Dillard grew up in a time of economic prosperity. The 50 s were marked by the red scare, Elvis, conservative yet social people, and the Korean War. In the 60 s, when Dillard was 15 24, Dillard saw anti Cubism, the Civil Rights Movement, the assassinations of President Kennedy and Dr. Martin Luther King Jr, and the first man on the moon. She grew up in a very diverse time where emotions were high then broken down after the assassinations. It was a time that would have influenced her writing very much, especially because she was young and people tend to be more influenced by things when they are young. Dillard is a favorite of critics because she is the youngest to woman to the win Pulitzer prize. Her writing has a deep knowledge of subjects from many categories of scientific and theological scholarship (McCleary). Dillard s writing is very appealing to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 33. The Trafficking Of A Global Economy Human trafficking in a global economy has resulted in the commodification of human souls. In this nomenclature of institutionalized proliferation of terror in a post conflict, post communist democratized Bosnia and Herzegovina (BIH), the trafficking of women has become a manifestation of the grosser changes evolved by globalization in the mainstream market culture of the sex trade. As Bosnia entered into bloodshed with the members of former Yugoslavia between the years of 1992 1995, the cleansing of non Serbs from Bosnian territory would later be known as one of the largest massacres and acts of genocide in history (Srebrenica). Further, with Bosnia s postsocialist change, pornographic directors, brothel owners and pimps seeking new talent for sex tourism amongst others, congregated to the war torn states to sell, buy and negotiate other business deals with former Yugoslavs desperately seeking to improve their own circumstances . Another factor that greatly influenced the influx of trafficking in Eastern Europe has been the rearrangement of the international labor market and of social inequalities including nationality, gender, race, class and citizenship that have differentially shaped this reorganisation of the labor market . It is cofounding how essential class is as a variable in sex trafficking, subdivided into the following: poverty, urban and rural areas. In this crossroads of east and west and with the fall of Balkan territories it suddenly became easier and cheaper to move women from Eastern to Western Europe . As traffickers capitalized on porous borders and relied on political and military instability to glide across states without interruption, allow traffickers to create supply chains to satisfy the growing demands for sex workers across the Balkans and Eastern Europe. The gendered nature of the trade conceptualizes from laws, customs and taxes that have historically and universally disseminated the economic exploitation of female sex work . This gender biased discrimination often ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 35. Analysis Of Gabriell Needham s The Killing Fields Gabriell Needham, Making of the Modern World I found the film, The Killing Fields , very moving. There were countless scenes where my heart melted and I felt as if I could feel the pain of the innocent Cambodians in a minute sense. There is absolutely no way I could ever imagine what it was like to live though such a brutal and emotional part of history. The actors who portrayed individuals in the film seemed to be very connected and the relationship between Pran and Sydney was brilliantly displayed. Throughout the movie, I was genuinely intrigued. I think that the friendship between Pran and Sydney captured my attention well and it made the rest of the movie very emotional and meaningful. Even though Pran could have ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Lastly, I feel as if Pran finished the movie as a hero. After Pran escaped from the re education camp, he came across a family consisting of Khmer Rouge official and his son. Even though the official knew Pran was against the revolution, which would normally be very deadly knowledge, he let him stay because his son had grown attached to him. The official thought that it was time for his son to leave because the war was starting to get worse so he left him under the care of Pran. The boy s father was eventually killed and Pran took the young boy and carried him through a mine filled jungle along with a few other soldiers in hopes of giving him a new life. I was surprised by the fact that the Khmer Rouge official allowed Pran to be around his son in the first place. I found the leader to be very easy going considering that he did not have Pran killed when he learned that he could speak French. I feel as if the official knew that the war was turning into something that had gotten way out of control and before he could stop the madness, it was too late. Cambodia was torn to shreds when Pol Pot s regime took over. As seen in the movie, so many innocent people were killed by ruthless soldiers and U.S. bombs. Cambodians were forced to leave their homes with as little as possible. They were assured that they would be taken care of and that they did not need to bring much of anything since Angkor would provide for them. Thousands of people were forced ...
