Dust Bowl Rationale

When you get what you want, but not what you need
When you feel so tired, but you can t sleep
Stuck in reverse
These lines start out a song about finding what you are worth and what drives us. It s lines also remind
us about how the Great Depression took everything away from many people. Women and foreign born
people had it the hardest when the wave of unemployment started. They were the first to go. Mothers
couldn t pay for food for their children and foreigners were looked at as scum. Women were also
responsible for the families money, and they too cut costs by firing house workers. Many racist people

First of all, biting the dust means that someone dies. There is no direct evidence to the number of
casualties the Dust Bowl, but the number is probably around 7,000. Another reason this song relates to
the Dust Bowl is the lyrics, another one bites the dust. Many people suffered internal damage,
especially in their lungs, by the dust particles. Dust Pneumonia was caused by breathing in the dust
filled air. The dust kept building up over time, causing problems internally. The problem was so bad
that the Red Cross started handing out filters to keep the dust out. The last thing in the song that
relates to the Dust Bowl is the lyrics You took me for everything that I had and kicked me out on my
own. The dust bowl took everything from farmers like their crops, belongings, and fertile land. Also,
many people left their homes. Many people ditched Oklahoma for California, and they were called
Okies. Okies took jobs and settled in Californian s homes. These times were justified by these lyrics:
How do you think I m going to get along without you when you re gone? The people living in
California were ready to get rid of the Okies, and the lyrics are like a person telling a Okie they can

Ict And Its Impact On The Society
Innovation in ICT and its impact on the society has been astounding. It is considered to be crucial for
economic activity (Jorgenson and Vu, 2007) as it not only increases productivity and boost economic
growth, (Jorgenson et al, 2008) but generates complementary innovations that improve economies
total factor productivity. (Ceccobelli et al, 2012)
3D printing is where a three dimensional object is created by laying down successive layers of
material that adhere to one another, creating a three dimensional output. (Kurt and Colegrove, 2012) It
has the ability to turn digital files created on a CAD or CAM program into physical objects. (Hoffman,
2015) MakerBot Replicator is a typical example of a product that uses 3D printing. (Figure 1)
The Replicator uses 1.75mm polylactic acid (PLA) filament. Various colors are available, meaning
that lots of flexibility is given as to the final look of the product that s printed.
As its software, MakerBot Desktop software is used. This allows individuals to save files in a personal
Library that you ve created, printed, or want to print; find new objects in the Thingiverse to print; and
access instructional and troubleshooting videos. (Hoffman, 2015) In other words, it s software that
enables you to manage and print objects.
Aside from the main software, individuals can also print from a computer over a USB, Ethernet, or Wi
Fi connection, as well as over Wi Fi from an iOS or Android phone or tablet with the MakerBot

U.s Russian Conflict Between Ukraine And Russia
Us Response to Ukraine and Russian Conflict
It has been argued that the Ukraine conflict can be attributed almost completely on Russian hostility. It
is argued that, the Russian president Putin, assaulted Crimea because of the long desire to protect the
soviet terrain, and from the prevailing situation, he may possibly pursue the entire Ukraine, as well as
other nations in Eastern Europe. In this perception the dismissal of Ukraine president Viktor simply
provided an excuse for Putin`s decision to order Russian militaries to take hold of part of Ukraine
(Baker, et al 2014, p.1). The United States takes a big responsibility in this conflict despite the idea
that it is anticipated to answer back to the skirmish between Ukraine and Russia. ... Show more

The struggle between the EU and Russia over Ukraine play an imperative part in the current conflict
of Russia and Ukraine. On the other hand, concerning the free trade pact, Kiev initiated discussions
for an entire unlimited trade pact with the European Union after it had converted an associate of the
world trade organization. The agreement involved products, acquisition of administration, energy
issues, and protocols. Statistics demonstrates that Ukraine and European Union are great partners,
with exports to the European Union adding up to over nineteen billion dollars and importation from
European Union of approximately thirty billion dollars (Simes 2014, p.5). Studies affirm that, Ukraine
has experienced close trade with Russia, and it was reported that after the desolation of the former
USSR, the two nations took on unlimited business pact. In recent times, Kiev was an older party to the
commonwealth of independent states FTA. However, in later years, Russia, Belarus and Kazakhstan
threw their levies in amalgamation. This is a step, which Putin viewed as a leading phase to duties
incorporation that would eventually encompass all post USSR nations. Despite the fact that other
nations have liked this treaty, Ukraine`s frontrunners are still undecided whether or not connect to the
duties amalgamation.
Kiev amplified spectator rank to the duties amalgamation, Moscow allegedly presented Ukraine

We Are All Familiar With Bible Stories And Fairy Tales
We are all familiar with Bible stories and fairy tales. They typically began as verbal stories, passed
down from generation to generation, before they were put down on paper or made into a film. Stories
which use outlandish situations to, ideally, teach the readers how to live as good people. Stories such
as Cinderella, The Three Little Pigs, Snow White, Jonah and the Whale, Noah s Ark, Hansel and
Gretel, and The Adventures of Pinocchio include situations which could not have possibly happened.
These stories may help lull children to sleep but, at the same time, teach morals in a harsh or even
violent manner. Like fairy tales, the Bible was written to teach stories to impressionable minds.
Unlike fairy tales, Bible stories are still read today, they are not only read by children, but by adults
with or without children. Many Christians today will argue that the Bible stories, such as Jonah and
the Whale, Noah s Ark, Adam and Eve, and such, were not written to take literally. If they are correct
in assuming those stories are not literal encounters, then how would someone venturing through the
bible know what to take literally and what to take as the word of God? If the stories of the Bible were
never meant to be accepted as real events, then can they be considered fairy tales? If all stories in the
bible are, in fact, the word of God and meant to be taken literal, then scientists need to re evaluate
almost everything they know about the world and how it works. It is

Wrongful Death Involving Teenagers
Wrongful Death Involving School Children Pedestrians
When school is in session, children are exposed to traffic hazards when they cross streets in front of
their schools, when getting on and off buses, and while walking along neighborhood roads.
Unfortunately, this exposure causes fatalities every year by motorists who were distracted, intoxicated,
negligent, or failed to observe school zone or school bus laws. Common ways in which these fatalities
happen include:
Failing to Stop When a School Bus Flashes Its Red Lights
Motorists must stop when a school bus flashes its red lights regardless of whether they re behind the
bus or in front in the opposing lane. They cannot proceed until the flashing light stops, regardless of

Why We Should Legalize Marijuana
Marijuana, in a lot of people s minds, is a horrible drug that has very harmful effects, but little do the
people know that it is actually one of the most helpful drugs in the world. Marijuana is shown to help
with many illness including P.T.S.D., epilepsy, and even chronic depression. Many states have already
learned of these health benefits, and have legalized marijuana medically. For some states it s even
allowed recreationally for everyday usage. Overall, the government is wasting their time busting drug
dealers and spending lives and money when they should just legalize it. First of all, marijuana is very
helpful when it comes to medical use. Marijuana a.k.a. weed is a drug that is grown and can be used in
a variety of ways.

The Invisible World By The Salem Witch Trials
During the Salem Witch Trials, Bridget Bishop was not granted a fair trial due to legal issues with the
court proceedings. If this trial were to happen again in modern time the trail and out come would have
been drastically different. The Invisible World by Cotton Mather is an excellent example of how
Bridget Bishop was granted a fair trail during the Salem Witch Trials. Cotton Mather was a very well
educated man and respected member of the community. He graduated from Harvard at 16 with his
undergraduate degree and at 19 he completed his masters degree from Harvard. (Hudson 2015) Due to
his education level he was a very creditable source and his opinions were looked at higher than the
average citizen.
According to Mather he wants to prove that there never were witches (Mather 1862, 129). His goal
was to prove that the evidence being brought up was only spectral evidence, which is evidence that
could not be proven (Hudson 2015). Most of the testimonies were all here say and would have been
very difficult to prove without a reasonable doubt that they truly happened. Whenever there was a
testimony that included another person seeing what Bishop did, the other witnesses testimony was not
included. So there was no evidence to collaborate what was said. In testimony V an apple flew out of
John Cook s hand and landed many feet away in his mother s lap (Mather 1862, 131) but Cook s
mother did not testify to helping to prove that the event did happen. She was the only

Seduction in To His Mistress Going to Bed, Good Morrow, Corinna s Going A Maying, and To His
Coy Mistress
Throughout time, one of the greatest challenges mankind has faced is the sexual conquest of
womankind. In many cultures today, this challenge has evolved into an intricate courting process that
often involves buying the woman flowers, gifts, and meals to persuade her to have sex. Another device
that a man might use to seduce a woman is poetry. In the English language, the use of poetry to seduce
women may be traced back to the late sixteenth and early seventeenth centuries. Cavalier poets such
as Robert Herrick, John Donne, and Andrew Marvell embrace this method ... Show more content on

Thus, Herrick, Donne, and Marvell s consistent poetic reliance upon logical rhetoric, first person
plural narration, and imperative, interrogative, and conditional statements signifies the veritable
influence of these devices to convince women to have sex in late sixteenth and early seventeenth
century England.
While Herrick s famous Corinna s Going A Maying depends primarily on imperative statements, it
also features logical rhetoric and first person plural narration. Likewise, the overpowering ingredient
in Donne s Eligy XIX: To His Mistress Going to Bed is also the imperative statement, although he
also includes a dash of logic and interrogation. Similarly, Donne arranges interrogative statements,
logical reasoning, and first person plural narration into The Good Morrow. Marvell s To His Coy
Mistress is particularly unique in its ample use of conditional statements in combination with other
devices. To reiterate, the recurrence of literary elements in seduction poetry around the late sixteenth
and early seventeenth centuries in England clearly demonstrates their persuasive impact upon women
of the time.
Often considered to be the greatest Cavalier poet, Herrick focuses on pastoral themes and English
village customs in his poetry. Corinna s Going A Maying, a

Bold Photography Personal Statement
In 2011 I became interested in digital photography. Having no previous experience in this field,
besides the handful of times I had used the family single use Kodak camera, I started take more photos
using whatever camera we had laying around. As time passed, and technology evolved, my mother
obtained a more professional grade digital camera for her own personal use and allowed me to use it
from time to time as I learned more about cameras, angles, and lighting. This seemingly cheap camera
lead to me ultimately increasing my knowledge in photography and the start of my photography

Bold Photography was started was the desire to capture any and every opportunity available. After
shooting my first lifestyle and portrait sessions, I learned more about the type of photography I am
truly interested in capturing and have started to specialize in lifestyle, headshot, and event

The United States of America was built strictly upon values of freedom America s founding father

Another cornerstone of the United States mentality is the American dream, the idea that, in America,
you can and should strive for success, monetary success. Freedom and the American dream inform
hundreds of years of political ideology and essential American thought; however, it is widely accepted
that these two aspects of American culture are one in the same. A person is free to work as hard as

As Nick describes the route of his limousine ride around the the edge of New York City, he writes, we
take the limo all the way East and, like children who can barely swim and who run around the edge of
the pool to get to where they want to jump in, we ride the perimeter of the island North (Brunt 12).
Though Nick and his friends ride around in a limousine, flaunting wealth and supposed power, they
are like children who can barely swim. Brunt uses this metaphor to imply the lack of true power the
wealthy really have. Although Nick has money, and is in a limo rather than a taxi, he is no different
than the thousands of people in New York fighting traffic he enjoys little more power than a child who
can barely swim. Later, as Nick s friend Jack has a heart attack, Nick relates, Jesus Christ, I don t want

panicked and helpless tone by having Nick shout out against the other people in the room. In this do or

Construction Education Essay
In the construction domain, the semantic web has been used in the field of construction education,

In the field of construction education, repositories have been developed in managing objects as well as

Erin, a single mother at 33, is the protagonist in the film. She is shown struggling to find work to

her three children who become the driving force for her decisions for a large part of the story.
Initially, Erin displays an attitude that would put her at Stage 1 and Stage 3 of Kohlberg s model of
moral
development. In the first scene she is desperately trying to land a job as a doctor s assistant and
narrates a variety of interests that she possess, which were quite varying, and continually stresses upon

Slack Off Research Paper
I am a slacker. There is no possible way I will deny that. In some ways, slacking off is both a good
thing and a bad thing. I will admit that I love slacking because I don t have to worry about anything
that is so important and that I can only focus on my video games. It s true. Every time I m at home, I
play video games and slack off. Every time I am in school, I slack off and feel like that I shouldn t do
my work at all. That s what most slackers feel like. They feel like they shouldn t do anything that feels
important with the exception of video games.
What is my advice for future students? Do not become a slacker. That s the only advice I can give.
What are the main reasons? First, slacking off is not a good thing depending on how you look at it.
Slacking off can drive you away from your school work and you will definitely not graduate from
high school and you will most likely not get a good job because you didn t go to college. The second
reason is that slacking off will get you nowhere. School is the most important thing in your life and
slacking off will not help that in any way. You need to graduate in order to have a job and in order to
get money so that you can buy what every you want. Finally, slacking off will not help your family
members. Let s say that you have chores to do. You were asked to wash the dishes, cut the grass, clean
your room and many other things. You feel like the chores are of no importance so you slack off and
play video games all the long. If you slack off, you can t help your parents around the house or do ...

Adhesive Capsulitis Research Paper
Low Level Laser Therapy on Adhesive Capsulitis Adhesive capsulitis is a problem that therapeutic
ultrasound, low level laser therapy, inferential current, TENS, and pulsed electromagnetic field
therapy have not been researched enough to see if it works. This study was done to see if low level
laser treatment and exercise improved patients pain, functional impairment, and active shoulder
abduction versus a placebo and exercise. The study was set up by the Cochrane Library. They
researched all the recent articles on electrotherapy modalities on adhesive capsulitis and then formed
their study. It was a randomized control test, using clinical trials using a quasi randomized method of
allocation. There were nineteen trials and 1,249 participants and their average age was fifty five, sixty
one percent were women. Participants had adhesive capsulitis for an average of 5.5 months, and the
average duration of low laser treatment was four weeks. No one was excluded from the study and the
only criterion for the study was that participants needed to have adhesive capsulitis. ... Show more

Violent Video Games Effects On Society
Video games have been around for half a century, when the first simple tennis game was designed by
William Higinbotham in 1958. Since then, video games have gotten more in depth, and now include
the best graphics and a vast amount of options which include violent video games. Violent video
games have gotten more popular with the vast amount of variety including the franchise of Call of
Duty, Battlefield, and Grand Theft Auto. In addition, these are the most common and sought after
video games, and because of the violence in those games, debate has started whether or not violent
video games cause people especially adolescents to be more violent and destructive in society. Since
the debate has started, research has been conducted and the introduction of violent video games into
society has not resulted in violence to increase in adolescents and children. Over the years violent
video game sales have skyrocketed and there is no correlation with juvenile crime rates that suggests
that those games resulted with more violence in society. Furthermore, in a recent article from ProCon
the National Center for Education Statistics and Nicholas Lovell stated The number of high school
students who had been in at least one physical fight decreased from 43% in 1991 to 25% in 2013, and
student reports of criminal victimization at school dropped by more than half from 1995 to 2011 (1).
This demonstrates that violent video games do not result in violence, but actually resulted in violence

The Financial Analysis Of Terms On The Tunisian Stock...
Table 2 of the descriptive statistics shows a summary of the variables that were taken from the
financial statements and the annual reports of sampled firms on the Tunisian Stock Exchange. Based
on the table mean percentage of dividend policy was 0.630 which represents almost 63%. This results
in the fact that all the selected firm under consideration for the period of ten year (2006 2015) had
been a 42% decision to pay dividend to shareholder. The profitability variable, Return on Equity
(ROE) showed an average of 4 %. This percentage measured the involvement of net income per cedi

owners‟ invested capital. The Average value of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The results of the regression did not show a significant relationship between the dividend policy and
ownership duality. So, we cannot establish a relationship between dividend policy and ownership
duality; hypothesis H2, in this case, is not validated. Concerning foreign ownership, the results
indicate a positive and significant relationship between the level of the presence of foreign
shareholders and the level of dividend distribution. The relationship between the two variables is
significant at the 5% level. In other words, the more the level of foreign ownership increases, the more
the level of distribution of dividends increases. Consequently, Hypothesis H3 is supported. This result
is consistent with Cook and Jeon [19] that also found a positive relationship. This concludes that
foreign investors worried about their investments seek to reduce the agency costs by reclaiming a high
level of dividends. Finally, the Fischer test indicates significant results. In addition, the R2 of 44%
shows the power of the model.
1. Conclusion and discussion
The objective of this study is to investigate the existence of relationships between the structure of
ownership and dividend policy in an emerging market. To reach this end, we studied a sample of non

Essay about The Reagan Tax Cuts And Foreign Policy
The Reagan Tax Cuts and Foreign Policy
During the 1980 s President Ronald Reagan s (our 40th president from
1981 to 1989) domestic policy of a substantial tax cut led to greatly increased economic prosperity for
our country. During Reagan s administration marked changes were made to the tax code and economic
statistics showed a major change for the better. However, at the same time, the Democrats controlled
the Congress and continued increased spending against Reagan s wishes. The Joint Economic
Committee stated that an across the board tax cut was not new. In the 20 s the

This act simplified and reduced taxes, but the democrats wanted to claim equal credit for the bill as
well. A stock market crash in 1987 raised questions about the nation s economic health. A new bill to
balance the federal budget became law in 1987, but the huge deficit continued to be a concern to the
government.
Congress passed Reagan s requests for cuts in taxes and in some government programs. Reagan also
won increased funds for defense. By 1982, however, the country was in an recession, which meant
that there was an extended decline in general business activity, typically three consecutive quarters of
falling real gross national product. The economy improved in 1983. But the increased defense
spending and tax cut had led to a record budget deficit. Democrats attacked
Reagan for cutting social welfare programs and called for reduced defense spending and a tax increase
in order to lower the deficit.
Foreign Policy
President Reagan through foreign policy sought to achieve peace through strength. He had learned
how to deal skillfully with Congress and obtain legislation to strengthen our national defense. In 1983,
Reagan sent U.S.
Marines to Lebanon as part of a peacekeeping force. The Marines were recalled in
1984, after some 240 had been killed in a terrorist attack. Reagan also sent U.S. troops to Grenada in
1983, to prevent what the he saw as a Cuban attempt to take over the Caribbean island nation. The
President denounced the left wing

important and also so no decisions are made without their opinion.
Q Explain ways to achieve maximum attendance at meetings. (1.3)
A One way of achieving maximum attendance at a meeting is by sending out an invitation email
which gives the recipient the chance to accept, decline or hold the invitation to the meeting. This way,
it automatically updates their calendar if they accept the invitation and allows you to know who is
attending. Another way to achieve maximum attendance is arranging a time and location that
accommodates everyone that you want to be at the meeting. Choosing a time and place when someone
is busy will ultimately mean that one person already can t make it.

The Role Of Food And Communication In Asian Culture
Food is important to human beings not only for sustenance but also as a means of communication.
Food as communication is portrayed and interpreted in different ways in different cultures. In many
Asian cultures in particular, food becomes the substitute to express a generally unspoken affection:
love. In the cultural background of unexpressed love where food becomes the channel of the message,
food in turn becomes a sensitive topic and therefore can serve as a catalyst for arguments in
relationships between people of that culture. In a case study observing a couple of Korean cultural
background Peter and Elli I attempt to uncover the metamessages underlying their arguments
involving food. In Korean culture, along with many other Asian cultures, people typically do not show
love and affection straightforwardly through touch or words. Instead, we show it more subtly through
different channels, the most common of these being food. This cultural experience is precisely
illustrated in a video titled What Asian Parents Don t Say... by Wong Fu Productions a YouTube
channel by Asian American creators producing Asian American stories in which they juxtapose scenes
of what an Asian parent says, and what they actually mean by what they said. At one point in the
video, an Asian mother asks her son, Did you eat yet? which gets translated to I love you, but I don t
want to say that, so I m making sure you re well fed. That s how my parents said I love you to me...
And it s less awkward. With the comments section flooded with statements of identical incidents upon
the video s release, there is evidence of wide cultural experience. I personally have felt this too as I
have never heard the words I love you from my parents, and I have never said those words to them
either. Yet, we know we love each other; we just show it through more subtle ways, such as doing
errands and buying gifts, or simple questions of concern such as Are you cold? or Did you sleep well?
, and, of course, the most common way: through food. In this culture, food is the way our parents
show us love, which then gets transferred to the way we show love to others. Therefore, food has
become a sensitive topic to many Asians and Asian Americans, so

Disney is a multi billion dollar industry. Originally founded by the Disney brothers, Walt and Roy E.,
the company has now become a world wide phenomenon, diversifying its company into live action
film production, television, and theme parks. It surrounds us every day, in almost every way possible.
More importantly however, the Disney industry is known to people world wide as being one of the top
leaders in children s popular films and subsequently, storybooks. The countless movies and short films
made over the years have not only provided joy and happiness to families and young children, but
have ultimately influenced the way that these young children see the world as they grow older. Many
of the traditional fairytales known throughout the ages have been Disneyfied and have become more
modern through their adaptations, in order to increase revenue and audience appraisal. In addition, a
vast majority of the films released are based on different cultures, countries, or a certain historical
group or figure to create a more wholesome atmosphere where children can learn and become
cultured. However, the responses to these films that are often overlooked are the ones that bring a
negative light to the Disney Company and their reputation as a whole. Disney was and is known for

On their way they ridicule an elderly man who is wishing Death would come to take him. The man

The bill itself seems harmless, but attorneys argued that the bill would make it difficult to challenge
the validity of foreclosure records when reports of improperly foreclosed homes were increasing. To
ensure that the unintended effects of the bill wouldn t harm consumers, President Obama vetoed it and
sent it back to Congress. This is where the system of checks and balances is used. When the president
disagrees with a legislation passed by Congress, he has the right to veto the bill as the executive
branches check and balance against the power of the legislative branch. President Obama s actions
showed how the executive branch can check the legislative branch by vetoing bills that could
potentially harm the public welfare of the nation.
Of course, Congress could have overturned President Obama s veto with a 2/3 vote in both houses.
While the executive branch can veto legislations passed by the legislative branch, the legislative
branch can also check the executive branch by overriding the presidential veto. Ambition must be
made to counteract ambition. The system of checks and balances is one branch counteracting the
influences of another, creating a stalemate as exemplified above. None of the three branches can exert
any source of power over the others without being counterbalanced by the powers of another branch.
For example, President Obama nominated Elena Kagan for the Supreme Court

Stress-Related Back Pain Research Paper
Millions of Americans have experienced back pain at one point or another in their life. Back pain is
one of the most common complaints that a doctor will hear from a patient on a visit. Understanding

stress is not the first thing that comes to mind when trying to establish the cause of their back pain.
However, it is quite possible that stress is the primary cause of your back pain. Stress related back pain
is real. What is stress related back pain? This is a back pain that is initiated by the psychological or

Stewart Model Of Thought Summary
Stewart Model of Thought Summary and Analysis
Theory By directly challenging the rationality of modern news through comedy and open debate, The
Daily Show brings about critical thought processes.
The reading assignment R2, Public Discourse and the Stewart Model of Critical Thinking, covers how
the Today Show both garnered interest, and bettered it s viewers. Through the use of satire and open
debate, the Today Show directly challenged the rationality of modern news, teaching it s viewers to
think critically and recognize logical fallacies. This is depicted in several examples throughout the
article, divided into sections dedicated to providing a set of examples and explaining their meaning.
The first segment of the article covered a routine mocking disaster preparedness, and a segment about
American news response to London bombings. The writers for the Daily Show presuppose that news
organizations have a responsibility to report objective information, and routinely point out areas where
they do not. They show that media often appeals to emotion instead of reasoning, utilizing either/or

share price volatility for companies listed in the Egyptian stock exchange throughout the period 2008
2012, including a detailed description of the model to be followed along with a specific definition for
the variables to be used and how the data shall be analyzed.
3.2 PROBLEM STATEMENT
After years of theoretical and empirical researches, the association between dividend policy and share
price volatility still remains a source of controversy with absence of general consensus regarding that
relation, were different studies have shown contradicting results using different models, and
sometimes using the same model but on ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
His assumptions for the control variables were as follows: Earnings volatility is to be added to the
equation since the market risk faced by any given firm could have an impact on both its dividend
policy and share price volatility, companies with volatile earnings are perceived as risky investments
and consequently would have a more volatile stock price. Size is to be added to the equation since
smaller firms would usually have less diversified activities as well as less information available to
their investors about their activities, he also assumed that a smaller firm s stock would be more liquid
than that of a larger firm and consequently would have a more volatile market price compared to that
of a larger firm. Also a firm with a larger and more scattered body of shareholders would have their
dividends being used as a signaling method by those shareholders which would impact the choice of a
dividend policy. Growth is to be added to the equation for the assumption of its negative relationship

Theme Of Hercules In The Iliad
The theme of an epic poem or short story is arguably the literary element that has the greatest effect on
conflict in a story.
Theme is what the characters and the audience are supposed to take away after finishing the story. In
Hercules and The Iliad, the overall themes of each story help to almost determine the conflict to come,
and how that conflict will help to shape the character.
Many consider the main theme of The Iliad to be the very first line in the entire epic poem, in which a
muse sings a song about the wrath of Achilles . This opening line of dialogue sets up the epic in a way
that enable a lot of conflict to be set up.
No man alive could keep the dog packs off you, not if they haul in ten, twenty times that ransom and
pile it here before me and promise fortunes more (Beers 64).
In this quote, Achilles is brutally informing Hector that he will not return his body back to his family
once he has died. This reflects back onto the theme of the wrath of Achilles , demonstrates how one
person s wrath can lead to deadly conflicts.
In Hercules, one theme that is commonly found is persevering against all of the struggles that one may
encounter. In this epic poem, Hercules has to complete twelve challenges in order to prove he is a
virtuous man (Hamilton). These twelve challenges easily allows for one conflict after another to occur
throughout the entire story.
By and by, no Geryon was there, but a huge snake, like one of those which Hercules had strangled in

Mamie P. Kenneth B. Clark
Biographical Information
Mamie Phipps and Kenneth Bancroft Clark are best known for their doll studies, and the use of their
findings regarding the effects of racism on the psychological identity of black children in the historic
Brown vs. the Board of Education of Topeka, Kansas case, which lead to the determination that
separate but equal education for black students was unconstitutional. Mamie Phipps Clark was born
April 18, 1917 to a middle class doctor from Hot Springs, Arkansas (Gibbons Van Nort, 2009, p. 29).
Because of her father s status, she had a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
30).
Kenneth Bancroft Clark was born July 24, 1914 in the Panama Canal Zone to parents of Jamaican and
West Indian descent (Kennedy, 2015). Like his wife, Kenneth Bancroft Clark also attended Howard
University and then Columbia University where he would become the first black man to earn a Ph.D.
in psychology (Kennedy, 2015). While at Columbia University, he was associated with Gunnar
Myrdal, a Swedish economist known for both his study of race relations and his contributions to
desegregation in the United States (Larson, 2014). Both Clarks are tied to the Civil Rights Movement
and their work is aligned with the social reconstructionist curriculum ideology of the time period.
Both Clarks define the ideal of what W.E.B. Du Bois (1903) hoped to achieve with his Talented Tenth
in that both pursued the highest levels of education and then sought to use that education as a means of
improving the lives of black people, particularly black children. Kenneth Bancroft Clark was
committed to the promotion of social action and believed that change needed to occur in the behavior
of both white and well as black people (Freeman, 2008, p. 419).
Theoretical Information
The psychological work of both Clarks is focused in the area of racial identity among black youth
(Gibbons Van Nort, 2009, p. 29). They sought to provide evidence of the detrimental effects of a
society where social norms are biased toward white culture. Though the Clarks are most widely
recognized for their

It is argued that, the Russian president Putin, assaulted Crimea because of the long desire to protect the soviet terrain, and from the prevailing situation, he may possibly pursue the entire Ukraine, as well as other nations in Eastern Europe. In this perception the dismissal of Ukraine president Viktor simply provided an excuse for Putin`s decision to order Russian militaries to take hold of part of Ukraine (Baker, et al 2014, p.1). • 5. We Are All Familiar With Bible Stories And Fairy Tales We are all familiar with Bible stories and fairy tales. They typically began as verbal stories, passed down from generation to generation, before they were put down on paper or made into a film. Stories which use outlandish situations to, ideally, teach the readers how to live as good people. Stories such as Cinderella, The Three Little Pigs, Snow White, Jonah and the Whale, Noah s Ark, Hansel and Gretel, and The Adventures of Pinocchio include situations which could not have possibly happened. These stories may help lull children to sleep but, at the same time, teach morals in a harsh or even violent manner. Like fairy tales, the Bible was written to teach stories to impressionable minds. Unlike fairy tales, Bible stories are still read today, they are not only read by children, but by adults with or without children. Many Christians today will argue that the Bible stories, such as Jonah and the Whale, Noah s Ark, Adam and Eve, and such, were not written to take literally. If they are correct in assuming those stories are not literal encounters, then how would someone venturing through the bible know what to take literally and what to take as the word of God? If the stories of the Bible were never meant to be accepted as real events, then can they be considered fairy tales? If all stories in the bible are, in fact, the word of God and meant to be taken literal, then scientists need to re evaluate almost everything they know about the world and how it works. It is ... Most of the testimonies were all here say and would have been very difficult to prove without a reasonable doubt that they truly happened. Since then, video games have gotten more in depth, and now include the best graphics and a vast amount of options which include violent video games. Violent video games have gotten more popular with the vast amount of variety including the franchise of Call of Duty, Battlefield, and Grand Theft Auto. In addition, these are the most common and sought after video games, and because of the violence in those games, debate has started whether or not violent video games cause people especially adolescents to be more violent and destructive in society. Since the debate has started, research has been conducted and the introduction of violent video games into society has not resulted in violence to increase in adolescents and children. Over the years violent video game sales have skyrocketed and there is no correlation with juvenile crime rates that suggests that those games resulted with more violence in society. Furthermore, in a recent article from ProCon the National Center for Education Statistics and Nicholas Lovell stated The number of high school students who had been in at least one physical fight decreased from 43% in 1991 to 25% in 2013, and student reports of criminal victimization at school dropped by more than half from 1995 to 2011 (1). Concerning foreign ownership, the results indicate a positive and significant relationship between the level of the presence of foreign shareholders and the level of dividend distribution. The relationship between the two variables is significant at the 5% level. In other words, the more the level of foreign ownership increases, the more the level of distribution of dividends increases. Consequently, Hypothesis H3 is supported. This result is consistent with Cook and Jeon [19] that also found a positive relationship. This concludes that foreign investors worried about their investments seek to reduce the agency costs by reclaiming a high level of dividends. Finally, the Fischer test indicates significant results. • 32. The Role Of Food And Communication In Asian Culture Food is important to human beings not only for sustenance but also as a means of communication. Food as communication is portrayed and interpreted in different ways in different cultures. In many Asian cultures in particular, food becomes the substitute to express a generally unspoken affection: love. In the cultural background of unexpressed love where food becomes the channel of the message, food in turn becomes a sensitive topic and therefore can serve as a catalyst for arguments in relationships between people of that culture. In a case study observing a couple of Korean cultural background Peter and Elli I attempt to uncover the metamessages underlying their arguments involving food. In Korean culture, along with many other Asian cultures, people typically do not show love and affection straightforwardly through touch or words. Instead, we show it more subtly through different channels, the most common of these being food. This cultural experience is precisely illustrated in a video titled What Asian Parents Don t Say... by Wong Fu Productions a YouTube channel by Asian American creators producing Asian American stories in which they juxtapose scenes of what an Asian parent says, and what they actually mean by what they said. At one point in the video, an Asian mother asks her son, Did you eat yet? which gets translated to I love you, but I don t want to say that, so I m making sure you re well fed. That s how my parents said I love you to me... And it s less awkward. With the comments section flooded with statements of identical incidents upon the video s release, there is evidence of wide cultural experience. I personally have felt this too as I have never heard the words I love you from my parents, and I have never said those words to them either. Yet, we know we love each other; we just show it through more subtle ways, such as doing errands and buying gifts, or simple questions of concern such as Are you cold? or Did you sleep well? , and, of course, the most common way: through food. In this culture, food is the way our parents show us love, which then gets transferred to the way we show love to others.
