According to most accounts, the La Eme was formed in 1957 by Luis Huero Buff Flores. La Eme
quickly grew in size as well as stamina. In the 1960s, the California Department of Corrections moved
Eme members in an attempt to break up the gang task at DVI, to other prisons such as San Quentin.
This effort served to spread La Eme s sway to other prisons. As La Eme expanded, the group saw the
possibility of profiting from drug sales, extortion and gambling rackets inside penitentiary, so leaders
set taxes on such actions, driving Latino convicts to hand over a small portion of profits to the gang. In
the 1980s, this strategy was taken by La Eme to the street. By joining forces with East Los Angeles
street gang leaders, La Eme started to control activities like contract killings, extortion, drug
trafficking, and debt collection from inside prison walls.
As penitentiaries became more divided, competing race based criminal organizations sprang up in the
California prison system, including the Black Guerilla Family and the Aryan Brotherhood. La Eme
continued to prosper in the face of this opposition, and even grew more arranged, drafting a set of
gang rules or commandments and recruiting members from Latino street gangs in Southern

Alligator Alley Case Study Summary
During the meeting, the team met with one of the TAs, Elizabeth Albers. There were a lot of questions
for her regarding the project idea. When the team came up with the ten great project ideas, they did
not really find one that was all agreed on. The team members had to come to a decision about the
project idea considering that Alligator Alley was due soon. They finally decided that the heels and
flats idea was the best one and the TA approved. The team members started to get their ideas ready for
the Alligator Alley presentation. They went over how much the shoes will cost, what will be their
business plan project narrative, what is the target market for this product and how would the heels
detach. Once everything was written down, the team

Mortgage Loan Fraud and Its Impact on the Worldwide...
Mortgage loan fraud is a common and often overlooked crime; it is taking place with increased
prevalence today, due to the predominance of third party loan originators (both brokers and conduit
lenders). This type of fraud takes many different forms and is committed by buyers, sellers, attorneys,
title companies, and others; in most cases it is overlooked by individuals, corporations, and law
enforcement because it is seen as a victimless crime . In recent years, the booming real estate market
has fueled this criminal activity; mortgage loan fraud has become a crime with both victims and harsh
consequences. In present day, banks and financial institutions have become inundated with bad loans ,
many of which are bad because they were ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
A duped buyer has no cash or good credit, and has been induced into buying a home at an inflated
price with the incentive of no money down. Fraud for profit is often supported by inflated appraisals,
false income statements or verifications of income, and/or false verification of deposits to deceive out
of town lenders. There are four major subcategories of obvious fraud: Appraisal fraud. This is
frequently associated with the aforementioned property flipping. Lenders rely on accurate appraisals
to ensure that loans are fully secured. In appraisal fraud, appraisers fail to accurately evaluate the
property; this may be unintentional, or they may intentionally become a party to a fraud scheme begun
by the lender or borrower. Identity theft. This is very common in both the real estate and credit card
markets, and involves a borrower who assumes the identity of another person in order to secure a loan.
The thieves take the overage and run. Both victims (the bank and the person whose identity was
stolen) typically incur financial losses. Cash back schemes. Here, the price of a property is illegally
inflated in order to provide a cash back transaction to the participants. Many times, the borrower will
receive a rebate which is hidden from the lender and not stated on the HUD 1. In this situation, the
lender is bamboozled into lending more than the actual property value, and the buyer and/or
participants benefit financially.

years ago the first electronic book was born in 1971. The idea of e books start with Gutenberg project
when Michael Hart planning to convert heritage books into electronic form(Lebert, 2009). From that
time so far e books devices have many developments and changes in size, shape, and technology due
to the electronic revolution which has the main role to widespread of the e books devices. Recently, it
was found that an average student who graduated from a university in the U.S. has spent less than
5000 hours on studying but over 10,000 hours on computer games, email, and social networking sites
(Deshpande Huang, 2011). According to Chia Wen Tsai and Yu Jui Lu researchers their study
discussed with some teachers teaching computing courses in elementary schools and found that
students are highly interested in the content of the computer courses at school. As every new

Linda Thomas Brush Fire
Those who have lived through natural disasters view them differently than those who have not.
Experience helps us understand circumstances in a new way. In the essays Brush Fire by Linda
Thomas, and The Santa Ana by Joan Didion, the authors perceive the mysterious Santa Ana winds that
blow through California, and the deadly brush fires that it creates. Through the use of imagery, word
choice, tone, and description the authors depict the beauty and destruction that they see from the point
of view of a native or an outsider.
Thomas, a California native, describes the Santa Ana brush fires in a more excited and astonished
tone. Since she is a native, she decides not to display her experiences to the reader in a factual way.
Instead, she writes more informally, and uses techniques such as word choice and imagery to display
the beauty that she sees. The condition is perfect for fire that can rush up a canyon like a locomotive,
roaring and exploding brush as it rages. While describing a particularly hot and dry spring, Thomas
uses both imagery and simile to depict the fiery winds as a train rushing over the brush. She does not
only make this comparison for dramatic effect to entice the reader, but she also does it because she

distant and almost fearful tone. This is because the writing is no longer personal, therefore it impacts

Historical Knowledge And Quantitative Analysis
The discussion of the origins of electoral systems is an ongoing debate that many experts within the
field of political science continue to contribute to, offering various perspectives of how electoral
systems are established. Amongst the community of experts, there is a consensus that the origins of
electoral systems are not attributed solely to a single casual factor. Rather than developing a theory
that objectively details the origins of electoral systems, experts propose various explanations, such as
historical, political or economic explanations, as the foundation through which electoral systems
emerged. While a multitude of literature concerning the origins of electoral systems undoubtedly
exists, this review will be looking at three articles in particular that were published in the American
Political Science Review, Vol. 104, No. 2. The three articles under examination in this review are:
Historical Knowledge and Quantitative Analysis: The Case of the Origins of Proportional
Representation by Marcus Kreuzer, Coevolution of Capitalism and Political Representation: The
Choice of Electoral Systems by Thomas Cusack, Torben Iversen and David Soskice (CIS), and
Electoral Markets, Party Strategies, and Proportional Representation by Carles Boix. Each piece of
literature being reviewed engages with existing literature to some degree, presents a main argument
and presents evidence that supports its argument. Nonetheless, it is worth noting the Boix s and CIS s

Grease Essay
Grease is the word when it comes to my favorite musical past time. But the question is, what was it
about the rock and roll era in the 50s that influenced the writers of this stage musical turned movie?
Also, how did this type of film affect the popular culture of the past and of today? That is the basis of
this paper .
Grease began as a five hour long amateur show presented in a Chicago trolley barn in the summer of
1971 and eventually made Broadway. The film version of Grease began almost immediately. It
debuted in 1978, becoming the biggest grossing movie musical in film history. Its eight year run made
Broadway history and put it among today s most popular musicals.
Jim Jacobs and Warren Casey wrote the book, music and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The music s solid rhythm and heavy back beat inspired new forms of dancing that exist today. Far
beyond simply a musical style, rock and roll influenced lifestyles, fashion, attitudes and language.
So the big question is what makes the Grease phenomenon continue? One thing that has made it go
down in history is the music behind it. Some songs were added to film version that were not in the
stage version to reflect the feel of the 50 s in songs suited to the disco era. You re the One That I Want
, Grease , and Hopelessly Devoted to You were all composed for the 1978 film. The music has
captivated a variety of generations for so many years. Today the music plays at dances, karaoke bars
and on the radios across the country, and winds up in almost everyone s music collection at some point
during their lives. Every time I hear a song from the movie, it s impossible for me not to sing or hum
along, and I know I m not alone. The young kids, especially those five to twelve years old have heard
about Grease from their older siblings, have made it their own favorite.
Another reason youth enjoy Grease is it deals with events and issues encountered in high school. In
fact, the whole movie revolves around the typical high school experience. For instance, the movie
opens with the excitement of the first day of school and Rizzo of the Pink Ladies says that seniors rule
the school. Isn t that the

Wildfire
On Monday, November 28th, many people in Gatlinburg and Pigeon Forge, Tennessee were forced to
evacuate, as a horrible wildfire exploded. The wildfires have been caused due to the terrible drought in
the Southeastern United States due to the lack of rain. This lack of rain has been very tragic for our
ecosystem, because it has caused these fires. In the Southeast, it has been the driest conditions in the
past decade, and the ground has been so hard. These fires are spreading very rapidly and it affects our
society in a terrible way. Although firefighters are making progress, the fires keep spreading due to the
low humidity and winds. They release carbon dioxide into the air and destroy homes and habitats. To
begin with, at least 14,000 people have evacuated this area due to the wildfires spreading so rapidly.

The Effects Of Blood Doping On Professional Sports
The phenomenon of the blood doping in professional sports is not new; however, it remains prevalent
in sports culture. With new techniques being designed to avoid detection, it could be argued that the
prohibition of sports enhancing drugs in the professional sports mirror the prohibition of alcohol,
making for unsafe, unsanitary and black market drug erupt. Instead of prohibition, could the
professional sports community limitations in order to better allocate their money? There are great
incentives to use blood doping techniques with little by way of repercussions. Blood doping is a
process intended to boost athlete s performance by increasing the body s ability to filter more oxygen
to the muscles. This is done by increasing the hemoglobin which is the body s transportation of
oxygen to red blood cells (Webmd). The higher the hemoglobin contents in the blood the higher the
oxygen amount being transported to the muscle for the purposes recovery. Most common activities
blood doping is found in includes long distance activities such as marathon running and cycling, as
blood doing is thought to improve stamina (Webmd). There are multiple types of blood doping such
as; blood transfusions, erythropoietin injections (EPO) and synthetic oxygen carriers. There are two
forms of blood transfusions. The first type is Autologous Transfusions, which is the process of
removing one s own blood and storing it for future use. Whereas the other, Homologous transfusions

Cyberspace has many vulnerabilities in which malicious actors can use this system in ways it was not
intended to do. There was a variety of ways in which state and non state actors can use these
vulnerabilities such as malicious software to launch a cyber attack such as theft, espionage,
surveillance and sabotage. The effects of a cyber attack can be highly uncertain and unexpected.
Worms and viruses, attack tools, can spread uncontrollably and globally. Cyber attacks are then seen
as a tool for a state to employ as a utility against an adversary to create a bargaining range to prevent
an apparent war (Brantly, 2014).
Cybertheft is the act of using an internet to steal someone s or interfere with someone s use of property
(USlegal.com). This theft can include financial or personal information from the hacking use of a
computer. Malware (Malicious software) has been used increasingly lately becoming a concern for
businesses, governments and individuals. Malware uses backdoor Trojans to capture people s
information covertly. Examples of Cyber thefts include embezzlement, fraud and theft of intellectual
property. The National Computer Security Survey found that in 2005 of 7818 businesses surveyed,

Conflict Theory In American History X
American History X The film, American History X, is about two brothers, Derek and Danny, who fall

immigrants. This opens the door to the boy s racist mentality, while their father Dennis is then
murdered doing his job as a fireman by a black man in a drive by shooting. Derek s hatred towards
blacks grew from this incident and was later fueled by the influence of Cameron, the leader of a white
supremacy group. Derek eventually commits a hate crime and is sentenced to serve three years in
prison for the murder of two black men. While in prison Derek suffers the hardships of prison life and

The Greatest Good And Pain
In evaluating the philosopher s goal of determining how to live a good life, Epicurean philosophers
argue that pleasure is the greatest good and pain is the greatest bad. Foremost, for the purpose of this
analysis, I must define the pleasure and pain described. Pleasure is seen as the state of being pleased
or gratified. This term is defined more specifically by the subject to which the pleasure applies,
depending on what he likes. Pain is the opposite of pleasure, which is a type of emotional or physical
un pleasure that results in something that the person dislikes. Everything in which we rejoice is
pleasure, just as everything that distresses us is pain, (Cicero 1). Through this hedonistic assessment of
pleasure and pain, epicurean philosophers come to the conclusion that, the greatest pleasure [is that]
which is perceived once all pain has been removed, (Epicurus 1).
I support this idea of achieving absolute pleasure from the removal of all pain due to a series of
corresponding reasons. The first factor addressed in support of this claim is the tendency of human
nature to focus on the negative. This observation will lead to the second supporting idea that these
distresses which culminate towards the feeling of pain often block out the feeling of the pleasure
desired. This secondary notion results in a comparison between the subsequent uplifting experiences
from the removal of pain as opposed to the effect of a simple everyday pleasure on the mind. I

Pros And Cons Of Job Design In The Workplace
When looking at job design in the workplace, we know it is an enhancement in job satisfaction, that
will improve quality and to reduce employee problems in the workforce. It is also referred to as a task
or a work design that is the fundamental of human resources in the management of organizations Job
design is the main part in organizations tasks to groups and individuals with in the business world.
There are core dimensions in job design that are skill variety, task identity, task signification,
autonomy, and feedback. We use these dimensions to better understand which job designs that better
suit organizations when deciding to work in group/teams or simply working independently. A
successful job design whether in groups or individuals will result in a higher and increased
performance and productivity. Overall, there are three broad factors that affect the job design that are
organizational factors (work nature, workflow, and practices/ergonomics), environmental factors
(employee availability/abilities and the socio economics and cultural expectations), and finally
behavioral factors (factors of human need: autonomy, feedback, diversity, and the use of
skills/abilities). As reading through different material there are many pros and cons in whether
deciding if all jobs should be designed around groups rather than individual based organizations.
Should all jobs be designed primarily around a group setting in the workforce? To answer this
question, we must first

Examples Of Sympathizing In Frankenstein
As humans we have a tendency to choose the perfect balance between the two options we are given.
Therefore, when we are ultimately given the right to choose between sympathizing with Victor or his
creature, we try to sympathize with the two equally. That s just being human; we cannot decide who
gets to have more of our attention. However, if I had to choose between the two, I would perhaps
sympathize with the creature more. I empathize the creature for specific reasons that range from the
way he is perceived; to the way the population and his creator handle him amongst others. Victor
Frankenstein had a glorious childhood brought by well praised, loving parents, whom were possessed
by the very spirit of kindness and indulgence. His parents treated Victor fairly; tendering him
whenever he needed, allowing him to acquire great knowledge, and being his helping hand, or a push
towards success, when he desired. Victor s life seemed to tick off all those boxes; meanwhile, the
creature s didn t. Frankenstein, the creature s only so called family , had degraded the Being .

judgmental, scathing, and fault finding. Although he tries to fit in, despite the way Frankenstein

Advantage And Dis-Advantage The Sources Of Secondary Data
Advantage and dis advantage the different data sources with examples from the current research:
One of the main critical areas to consider in research is the sources of data. Data sources can be either:

the researcher through direct efforts and experience, specifically for the purpose of addressing the

Down syndrome is a genetic disorder also known as trisomy 21, that develops when there is an extra

in later ages was a magnet drawing to itself all manner of folklore and fable, and that an Arthurian
cycle grew up composed partly of events transferred from other contexts, no more proves him a
fictitious character than similar fables prove it of Alexander or Aristotle, Vergil or Roland. It tends
rather to prove the opposite. The place which the name of Arthur occupies in Celtic legend is easiest to
explain on the hypothesis that he really lived, and was a great champion of the British people.
Collinwood writes with confidence and writes that the readers should not hesitate or doubt his
existence. I believe Collingwood is so assured in his work because he is a philosopher and idealist

Animal Pollution
The environment which we live in is polluted every single day. The carelessness of humans today is
further damaging the ecosystem in some ways, more identifiable than others. Factory farming is a
system of rearing livestock using intensive methods, by which poultry pigs, or cattle are confined
indoors under strictly controlled conditions (Merriam webster). The animals are forced into the
participation of the supply and demand through cities and towns. Many may be oblivious to the fact
that the animal industry is a leading factor of pollution. The global movement of intense meat
production is negatively affecting climate changes, ocean pollution and the animal food chain.
The process of meat production is causing the earth s climate to unnaturally change. Factory farms use
a variety of toxic chemicals to feed, grow and execute the animals. One of the chemicals used on
factory farms is Carbon Dioxide. Burning fossil fuel (oil and gasoline) releases a considerable amount
of carbon dioxide. Fossil fuels are hydrocarbons, primarily coal, fuel, oil or natural gas, formed from
the remains of dead plants and animals. It takes, on average 11 times as much fossil fuel to produce a
calorie of animal protein as it does to produce a calorie of grain protein. In the end, more carbon
dioxide is released during the production of meat rather than the manufacturing of vegetables and
plants (Peta, p.1) Another toxic chemical that is often released into the atmosphere because of factory

Chicano Art
Chicano Art and Indigenismo
Artworks have played an indelible work to the lives of humanity. The creative nature in Artists is a
complex matter to define. The uncertainties in the intrinsic nature in art lay difficult aspects that can
only be answered by values, themes and skills depicted in an artist artwork. Apart from playing the
intricate psychological effect on humans, the artworks have been used as a tool of expression that has
been revered and uniquely preserved for future generation. Among some of the most revered modern
forms of artwork has included Chicano Art that had a core relationship to Las Carpas, Indigenismo,
rascuachismo and other forms of performance art.

Mexico.

The Chicano art movement rose during the civil rights era was based on three goals that included

Myers Briggs Type Indicator Essay
Myers Briggs Type indicator is usually the standard for managers and human resource departments to
categorize employees to help determine the best method of coaching for optimal performance.
Employees were given a test and evaluated on categories that included extraversion introversion,
sensing intuitive, thinking feeling, and judging perceiving. A personality profile was based on
evaluating these categories. A new method of creating personality profiles has been introduced in the
workplace that expands upon the categories of the Myer Briggs Type indicator. This is called the Big 5
Factor Personality Type. This method evaluates emotional reactions, interpersonal patterns, and
openness to experience, agreeableness, and work ethic (Briggs, 1998). By evaluating these categories,
immediate supervisors can predict job performance across many industries. For example, low scores
on emotional reactions, high extraversion, and high conscientiousness or work ethic is an indicator of
high job performance. Job burnout can be predicted by ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Herbert George Wells Research Paper
With over fifty novels published, more than twenty short stories, a couple of textbooks, many political
essays, a few accurate predictions of the future, influence on the 1948 Universal Declaration of
Human Rights, and zero awards to show for it, Herbert George Wells was one of the most notable
authors of the 20th century. An early interest in reading and science shaped Wells s studies in college
and career. The publication of his first novel, The Time Machine, rocketed his name to the
metaphorical top. His political views also influenced his books and personal life. He was most well
known for his science fiction works; themes of science, society, class, community, as well as socialist
ideas that ran through his work. Additionally, Wells frequently ... Show more content on

G. Wells consist of symbolism, a journalistic narrator, and open ended endings. Use of symbolism was
seen in the concept of fire in The Time Machine. Fire was an abundant quantity in this book. When the
Time Traveler first started a fire, it became out of control quickly and an entire forest burned down.
The Time Traveler routinely used matches for both good and evil. Fire symbolized the technology
incorporated into the time machine: it could be good, but also misused; and it had unintended
consequences (The Time Machine Analysis). The War of The Worlds compared people to animals;
people have as much power after the Martians arrived as animals have now (The War of the Worlds
Analysis). Darkness was used as a symbol in The Invisible Man, as it represented uncertainty (The
Invisible Man Analysis). Another device used by Wells was the narrator s methods of storytelling. The
narrators in these books were in the first person, and very journalistic with omniscient tendencies
(Shmoop Editorial Team Analyses). Finally, the endings of these books contained open ended aspects.
In The Time Machine, the Time Traveler simply disappeared. Absolutely no indication of what
happened to him was given (The Time Machine). The ending to The War of the Worlds was both
optimistic and pessimistic. Sure, the Martians died, but now, so could Earth. Anything could have
happened from here, as the future was uncertain (The War of the Worlds). At the end of The Invisible

as economies and the corporate structure were shaped. The bases of modifications in the corporate

Spices Of Indian Food
Aromatic spices are quintessential in Indian cuisine. These spices are what imparts the cuisine an
overwhelming and lingering essence that gives it a very distinctive identity. The delicate flavors,
smell, taste, and color of the spices in these Indian dishes has what has attracted people since eternity.
Spices can be defined as strongly flavored or aromatic substances that is commonly used as a
condiment to flavor dishes. Western cuisine, like the Mexican or the Italian cuisine also use spices in
their dishes. However, most of these cuisines use spices in their basic way which means that it is
usually one spice that stands out or gives the dish its unique taste even if it is being used with another
herb or other spices. Indian cooking, on the other hand, uses multiple types of spices (sometimes up to

pairing. This meant that the cuisine put together different spices that were in contrast at their

Pros And Cons Of No-Platforming
In Thomas Hobbes s famous work, The Leviathan he created his famous social contract theory , that
states individuals will need to give up some of their own personal autonomy to ensure the security of
the state. Looking at this social contract as a spectrum, with security on one end and liberty on the
other, one must find a balance between the two. In 2017 there are still on going debates where people
want their society to fall on that spectrum, some would rather have more liberty and others more
security. In 2016 the Free Speech Debate put out a video debating whether no platforming should be
practised at universities. No platforming can be defined a strategy that argues that certain peoples
should not be given a platform to speak in a certain social space due to their rhetoric constituting hate
speech . Both sides of the debate, the pro no platforming and the anti no platforming teams, gave great
points on how serious this issue is, and that there can be real life benefits and consequences on either
side of the debate.
Pro No Platforming The main argument of No Platforming is that there is an unfair power dynamic at
play. A platform gives speakers a medium to amplify their message without having to debate against
protestors; this unfair as it gives those already in power, that have the resources to platform, an
advantage in that they have a greater ability to get their point across, creating a cycle that perpetuates

There has been growing recognition of the potential of design to transform health care drawing on a
tradition of creative and divergent thinking to address the significant challenges. These challenges are
by definition wicked problems , where there is no single true answer and where design s strength lies
in creatively responding to these complex interdependencies.
Escalating costs of healthcare services and a shortage of personnel and facilities have put pressure on
the health system to deliver more care on an outpatient basis.
While tending to health needs at home has a long history and some medical devices have been used in
the home for many years, we are now witnessing an increasing migration of other devices and
emergent technologies into the home setting.
However most medical devices are designed for health professionals in formal health care settings and
not for domestic use. Consequently there are many challenges to address the complexity demanded by
the varied users within this environment.
eHealth is the use of information and communication technologies (ICT) for health (WHO).
According to the Royal College of Nursing (RCN) telehealth and telecare are relatively new eHealth
services, the language used to describe them is still evolving and the terms used are interchangeable.
Telehealth (also referred to as telemedicine) covers the remote monitoring of physiological data that
can be used by health professionals for diagnosis or disease management.

Analyse the advantages and limitations of different methods of, and media for, making presentations
A variety of communication media can be considered when planning to produce a presentation, for
example verbal communication and written communication, each type of communication media has
its advantages and limitations. When developing my presentation I decided to use both verbal and
written communication, although both communication methods were used I had to ensure that they
were used in the correct quantities. To keep my presentation engaging I tried to use as much visual
representation as possible limiting the amount of text per slide. I chose to use PowerPoint because of
its combination of written and verbal communication (not to mention the cost effectiveness of
choosing PowerPoint and simplistic interface); the written aspects included the text on the slides,
screenshots and images. The screenshots proved particularly useful as they was of the actual database
used in the daily running of the Apprenticeships Store, once paired with the demonstration of inputting
data into the database it ensured greater understanding due to more practical learning as opposed to
theoretical learning. More detail was provided in my handouts ensuring I didn t give too much
information at once and this allowed the audience to document any supplementary information I said
during the presentation, by speaking and interpreting what was on the slides ensured the presentation

All Summer in a Day By Ray Bradbury is about a group of children who lives on a planet called
Venus. Bradbury uses a variety of metaphors so the reader can imagine a life on venus. On this planet
the sun only appears for only a few hours once every seven years. The children have very vague
memory about the sun because they were far too young to remember what the sun was like except,
Margot who remembers the sun very clear, because she lived in Ohio until she was five. Margot tells
the other children that the sun is round like a penny and hot like a fire in the stove. The children didn t
believe her and didn t understand why she loved the sun so much. The other children envy Margot
because of her very clear and precise memories about the

The Nazi Party s Inner Circle Essay
How can ordinary people come to commit atrocities against defenceless victims? Hitler was an evil
man, or at least was prepared to employ evil actions to achieve his goals. There is very little in
literature to suggest anything contrary to this opinion. Most literature suggests that while Hitler had
some level of power over Himmler and the rest of the Nazi Party s inner circle, they were also well
aware of the extent and implications of their actions. Despite this, the atrocities of the Holocaust were
not carried out by these evil leaders, but instead were the actions of thousands of ordinary people
across Europe. In discussing how these people can be motivated to commit atrocities, I will focus on
Christopher Browning s analysis of Holocaust police battalions, along with contradictory evidence. I
will also compare the motivations of Hutu civilians in the mid 1990s, and how their experience
supports and undermines Browning s theory. Browning is seen as a pioneer of Holocaust Studies, and
his literature has drawn great respect and acceptance from the academic world (USHRI 1996). As
such, I will take Browning s theory as my hypothetical explanation of how ordinary people come to
commit atrocities against defenceless victims. Browning believes that indoctrination , along with the
pressing circumstances of a dehumanising war , pushed ordinary men to commit atrocities of which
they normally they would have considered themselves incapable (Browning 1992). Browning s

Demographic landscape
Overall, the population trends in the state of Florida exhibits a pronounced and exploding elderly
population. Demographic trends are otherwise roughly consistent with nation wide patterns. Those
trends include the nation s exponentially growing Hispanic population. Specific relevant
demographics trends include a shift from distinctly Cuban Baby Boomer populations , which
identified closely to Republican ideologies; to a younger Cuban generation that is more aligned with
Democratic ideologies. More notable patterns involve radical demographic shifts due to an
increasingly diminishing Millennial population.
The dynamically increasing cost of housing demonstrates possible correlations to the change (Vitner,
2016). This may be attributable to the current goal of many in the millennial population to acquire
home ownership. As such, The Miami/Fort Lauderdale/Pompano Beach metro area continues to shed
its millennial population at an alarming rate (Munzenrieder, 2016). Between 2007 and 2009, there was

Magical Realism
Two of the most widely recognized major contributors to Latin American Literature are Gabriel
García Márquez s One Hundred Years of Solitude and Isabel Allende s Eva Luna. Both are written in
the genre of magical realism, a literary form that describes fantasy and imaginary events in such a way
that it becomes believable and real to the reader. Specifically, these books describe the geopolitical
turmoil of Latin America during the early twentieth century and the mid twentieth century;
respectively, dealing with war, suffering and death. Although the authors are of different genders, both
of these books are written from a feminist perspective and merge fantasy with reality by introducing
the reader to myths, prophecies, and legends that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
50). On the other hand, there were events that were truly magical, such as Father Nicanor Reyna s
levitation powers and flying carpets. As previously stated, these incidents make it difficult for the
reader to distinguish the boundary between reality and fiction.
Like One Hundred Years of Solitude, Eva Luna uses magical realism in an oppressed Latin American
environment as a means of social change. The book starts out as a myth beginning with its title and
character name. Eva s name is symbolic itself. Eva, which means life and Luna, which is Spanish for
moon is a symbol of the matriarchal power that women possess. The opening of the book places us in
a world of magic to displace us from reality. The mission was a small oasis in the heart of an expanse
of voluptuous vegetation writhing and twisting from the banks of the river to the feet of the
monumental geologic towers that rose toward the firmament like one of God s mistakes (Allende p.
2). In addition to Eva s name being symbolic, her conception was brought about by magical realism.
Eva was conceived as her Indian father lay dying from a venomous snake bite. Consuelo, Eva s
mother, became aware that notwithstanding pain, fear of death, and shortness of breath, the gardener
responded with ardent enthusiasm when she rubbed his body...that unexpected erection so moved her
mature virgin s heart.... (Allende p. 18). Against the odds, he began to

The English Peasant Uprising Essay
The English Peasant Uprising was motivated by a growing contempt with the government and clergy
following the Black Death which was finally set off by a series of immediate social and economic
causes. A shortage of workers followed the Black Death with an estimated forty five per cent of the
population dying in England . As entire towns were either deserted or left devoid of life, rural peasants
increased their mobility into major cities. This shortage of rural workers led to famine as fields were
left to go fallow, placing further economic pressure on the peasant classes who survived as the price of
food increased. Due to the lack of labourers, the labourers who survived demanded greater wages as
they now had increased leverage over ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Schools of thought such as held by the Lollards, followers of theologian and reformer John Wycliffe
whom acted as lay preachers, were held responsible for the Uprising as they were critical of the
church as an institution, particularly the concept of the Church owning land. As these Lollards
travelled and preached their opposition to the Church as temporal power, they resonated with the
peasants and became increasingly popular as unlike many of the priests and monks recruited after the
Black Death, they were observed to be genuinely pious . The already solid dissatisfaction with the
clergy only intensified with the imprisonment of a highly popular Lollard, John Ball. John Ball was
imprisoned at Maidstone in Kent when he came into conflict with Simon of Sudbury Archbishop of
Canterbury for lay preaching. The Hundred Years war with France is still ongoing at this point which
was also adding further pressure to the lower classes due to the taxes needed to fund it. The war was
very expensive, which meant more taxes had to be put in place to compensate for the lack of people
paying taxes on account of forty five per cent of tax payers being dead. Not only were wages fixed by
parliament, but parliament demanded more money from a populace already financially struggling
under fixed wages and inflated food prices. The stresses of the Hundred Years War only intensified
with the death of Edward III in 1377

Essay on Variety in The Merchant s Tale
Use of Variety in The Merchant s Tale
The Merchant s Tale tells the story of an old man searching for a wife and finding one, who is
ultimately unfaithful to him. Chaucer uses a variety of elements in the poem to show his knowledge of
contemporary interests and his story telling capacity through another figure. Irony flows through the
poem, laced with allusions to the Bible. Chaucer s use of his astronomical knowledge not only allows
modern day scholars to date events, but also adds another dimension of interest for the contemporary
audience and of course, the pilgrims.

is said that a wife is a husband s paradis terrestre, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Chaucer s knowledge of astronomy becomes evident at many points during the poem and has been
useful for modern scholars wishing to date the Tale. The wedding day has been put down as Lady Day,
25th March 1392. Discussion of astronomy and the sky brings forth more elaborate language as on the
evening of the wedding day, the phrase Parfourned as the sonne his ark diourne (l.583) introduces the
next events of the day. In addition to this, there is always another dimension to the story. The wedding
of Januarie and May takes place when Mars and Venus are in conjunction. This combination of the
warring god and the god of love cannot bode well for the marriage, especially combined with the
heavily ironic emphasis on Januarie s concern for having his Heaven on Earth.
The marriage of May and Januarie brings attention to their names. While the spring month of May is
full of life, the winter month of January is a new beginning (to the year), but still contains the cold
deadness of winter. Eventually, spring defeats winter. There is a stark contrast between the characters
of May and Januarie. The latter s roughness is especially focused upon on the wedding night. His skin
is Lyk to the skyn of houndfyssh and there is an almost repulsive focus on his appearance. May is a
much livelier, younger character and so Damyan, the lovesick squire seems

Why Is Religion Important In Ancient Greece
Religion was in the Ancient Greeks everyday lives, the Ancient Greeks believed in many different
gods and goddesses. There was a god for almost every aspect of their lives. Religion was important to
the ancient Greeks because as I said in the introduction paragraph they believed that it would make
their lives better and also believed that the gods would lead them to a happy afterlife when they died.
Festivals and parties were held in honor of the gods. Parents sometimes told stories about the gods to
their children to teach them what s right and wrong and how to live a good life by pleasing the gods.
Some stories said that if you went around thinking you were better than the gods, bad things would
happen (getting struck by lightning, illness, etc). The Greeks also built temples for the gods and
goddesses as homes and as a place for their people to worship their gods. The temples were decorated
with paintings, statues, altars, and carvings, depending on the size and contents of the temple it
showed how wealthy and powerful the city was. The Greeks built temples in every town for one
god/goddess that were cared for by priests. To the Greeks priests were very important, they were
believed to have the power to communicate with god, so were oracles. Therefore, priests were greatly

The Rights Of Animal Rights
Animal Rights
Animals Rights is a big discussion that has been around for while. Many argue since animals aren t
human, it doesn t matter how they are treated or taken care of. There are others that do care how our
animals are treated and taken care of. Animal rights are rights believed to belong to animals to live
free from use in medical research, hunting, and other services to humans. This topic has been around
for a while but has become more absolute (Environmental Encyclopedia, Opposing Viewpoint).
Animal rights involves personal, social, legal, religious, cultural values, belief, and decisions. This
alone causes the viewpoint to vary based on many factors. Add in the many benefits animals have for
humans and the lines are blurred further. Animals should be treated humanely as they are living
breathing beings and are aware of their lives. Animals have similar levels of biological complexity,
they make conscious choices, and they are conscious and aware they exist.
Animals should have rights because many of them provide companionship for humans. Therapy dogs
are canines that might be trained to provide affection and comfort to people in hospitals, nursing
homes, schools, disaster areas, and people with autism (General SHCS Info). Farm animals provide
services for humans such as producing milk, eggs, and wool. Animals like horses can be used to pull a
plow, wagon, carriage, and can be ridden to go to places. 62% of all U.S. households more than 72.9

Analysis Of The Movie Memento We Come Across A Diner...
In Memento we come across a diner scene where we see Teddy trying to help Leonard realize that
living his life day by day based solely on pictures and notes can be problematic. In this scene Teddy
says, Lenny, you can t trust a man s life to your little notes and pictures. Because your notes could be
unreliable. Christopher Nolan directed Memento in 2000, which is adapted from Memento Mori
written by Jonathan Nolan in 2000. Both Memento and Memento Mori tell a story about a man who
uses photographs and notes to help him remember things as he searches for his wife s murderer
without the use of his long term memory. Christopher Nolan produced a free adaptation of the shorty
story, although the movie itself grasped the general concept it didn t exactly stay true to the little
details presented throughout the short story. One of the ways this is done in the movie is through
Nolan s editing.
Nolan made the movie in reverse chronological order. This was done this way so the audience could
connect more with the character Leonard. For example, in the beginning of Memento we start off with
Leonard holding a photograph in his hand of what looks to be the murder of Teddy, as he flicks the
photo back and fourth the picture slowly fades away turning the photo pitch black, soon you begin to
realize that everything is being reversed and then we switch to a black and white scene of Leonard
going over how he got in a motel room. Those specific scene edits automatically make the

According to most accounts, the La Eme was formed in 1957 by Luis Huero Buff Flores. La Eme quickly grew in size as well as stamina. In the 1960s, the California Department of Corrections moved Eme members in an attempt to break up the gang task at DVI, to other prisons such as San Quentin. This effort served to spread La Eme s sway to other prisons. As La Eme expanded, the group saw the possibility of profiting from drug sales, extortion and gambling rackets inside penitentiary, so leaders set taxes on such actions, driving Latino convicts to hand over a small portion of profits to the gang. In the 1980s, this strategy was taken by La Eme to the street. By joining forces with East Los Angeles street gang leaders, La Eme started to control activities like contract killings, extortion, drug trafficking, and debt collection from inside prison walls. As penitentiaries became more divided, competing race based criminal organizations sprang up in the California prison system, including the Black Guerilla Family and the Aryan Brotherhood. • 4. Mortgage Loan Fraud and Its Impact on the Worldwide... Mortgage loan fraud is a common and often overlooked crime; it is taking place with increased prevalence today, due to the predominance of third party loan originators (both brokers and conduit lenders). This type of fraud takes many different forms and is committed by buyers, sellers, attorneys, title companies, and others; in most cases it is overlooked by individuals, corporations, and law enforcement because it is seen as a victimless crime . In recent years, the booming real estate market has fueled this criminal activity; mortgage loan fraud has become a crime with both victims and harsh consequences. A duped buyer has no cash or good credit, and has been induced into buying a home at an inflated price with the incentive of no money down. Fraud for profit is often supported by inflated appraisals, false income statements or verifications of income, and/or false verification of deposits to deceive out of town lenders. There are four major subcategories of obvious fraud: Appraisal fraud. This is frequently associated with the aforementioned property flipping. Lenders rely on accurate appraisals to ensure that loans are fully secured. In appraisal fraud, appraisers fail to accurately evaluate the property; this may be unintentional, or they may intentionally become a party to a fraud scheme begun by the lender or borrower. Identity theft. This is very common in both the real estate and credit card markets, and involves a borrower who assumes the identity of another person in order to secure a loan. The thieves take the overage and run. Both victims (the bank and the person whose identity was stolen) typically incur financial losses. Cash back schemes. Here, the price of a property is illegally inflated in order to provide a cash back transaction to the participants. Many times, the borrower will receive a rebate which is hidden from the lender and not stated on the HUD 1. In this situation, the lender is bamboozled into lending more than the actual property value, and the buyer and/or participants benefit financially. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 6. Linda Thomas Brush Fire Those who have lived through natural disasters view them differently than those who have not. Experience helps us understand circumstances in a new way. In the essays Brush Fire by Linda Thomas, and The Santa Ana by Joan Didion, the authors perceive the mysterious Santa Ana winds that blow through California, and the deadly brush fires that it creates. Through the use of imagery, word choice, tone, and description the authors depict the beauty and destruction that they see from the point of view of a native or an outsider. Thomas, a California native, describes the Santa Ana brush fires in a more excited and astonished tone. Since she is a native, she decides not to display her experiences to the reader in a factual way. Instead, she writes more informally, and uses techniques such as word choice and imagery to display the beauty that she sees. Historical Knowledge And Quantitative Analysis The discussion of the origins of electoral systems is an ongoing debate that many experts within the field of political science continue to contribute to, offering various perspectives of how electoral systems are established. Amongst the community of experts, there is a consensus that the origins of electoral systems are not attributed solely to a single casual factor. Rather than developing a theory that objectively details the origins of electoral systems, experts propose various explanations, such as historical, political or economic explanations, as the foundation through which electoral systems emerged. While a multitude of literature concerning the origins of electoral systems undoubtedly exists, this review will be looking at three articles in particular that were published in the American Political Science Review, Vol. 104, No. 2. The three articles under examination in this review are: Historical Knowledge and Quantitative Analysis: The Case of the Origins of Proportional Representation by Marcus Kreuzer, Coevolution of Capitalism and Political Representation: The Choice of Electoral Systems by Thomas Cusack, Torben Iversen and David Soskice (CIS), and Electoral Markets, Party Strategies, and Proportional Representation by Carles Boix. Each piece of literature being reviewed engages with existing literature to some degree, presents a main argument and presents evidence that supports its argument. Nonetheless, it is worth noting the Boix s and CIS s articles ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Some songs were added to film version that were not in the stage version to reflect the feel of the 50 s in songs suited to the disco era. You re the One That I Want , Grease , and Hopelessly Devoted to You were all composed for the 1978 film. The music has captivated a variety of generations for so many years. Today the music plays at dances, karaoke bars and on the radios across the country, and winds up in almost everyone s music collection at some point during their lives. Every time I hear a song from the movie, it s impossible for me not to sing or hum along, and I know I m not alone. The young kids, especially those five to twelve years old have heard about Grease from their older siblings, have made it their own favorite. Another reason youth enjoy Grease is it deals with events and issues encountered in high school. In fact, the whole movie revolves around the typical high school experience. For instance, the movie opens with the excitement of the first day of school and Rizzo of the Pink Ladies says that seniors rule the school. Isn t that the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 15. The Greatest Good And Pain In evaluating the philosopher s goal of determining how to live a good life, Epicurean philosophers argue that pleasure is the greatest good and pain is the greatest bad. Foremost, for the purpose of this analysis, I must define the pleasure and pain described. Pleasure is seen as the state of being pleased or gratified. This term is defined more specifically by the subject to which the pleasure applies, depending on what he likes. Pain is the opposite of pleasure, which is a type of emotional or physical un pleasure that results in something that the person dislikes. Everything in which we rejoice is pleasure, just as everything that distresses us is pain, (Cicero 1). Through this hedonistic assessment of pleasure and pain, epicurean philosophers come to the conclusion that, the greatest pleasure [is that] which is perceived once all pain has been removed, (Epicurus 1). I support this idea of achieving absolute pleasure from the removal of all pain due to a series of corresponding reasons. The first factor addressed in support of this claim is the tendency of human nature to focus on the negative. This observation will lead to the second supporting idea that these distresses which culminate towards the feeling of pain often block out the feeling of the pleasure desired. This secondary notion results in a comparison between the subsequent uplifting experiences from the removal of pain as opposed to the effect of a simple everyday pleasure on the mind. I ... Factory farming is a system of rearing livestock using intensive methods, by which poultry pigs, or cattle are confined indoors under strictly controlled conditions (Merriam webster). The animals are forced into the participation of the supply and demand through cities and towns. Many may be oblivious to the fact that the animal industry is a leading factor of pollution. Fossil fuels are hydrocarbons, primarily coal, fuel, oil or natural gas, formed from the remains of dead plants and animals. In 2017 there are still on going debates where people want their society to fall on that spectrum, some would rather have more liberty and others more security. A platform gives speakers a medium to amplify their message without having to debate against protestors; this unfair as it gives those already in power, that have the resources to platform, an advantage in that they have a greater ability to get their point across, creating a cycle that perpetuates the dominant group of societies message and ... There has been growing recognition of the potential of design to transform health care drawing on a tradition of creative and divergent thinking to address the significant challenges. These challenges are by definition wicked problems , where there is no single true answer and where design s strength lies in creatively responding to these complex interdependencies. Escalating costs of healthcare services and a shortage of personnel and facilities have put pressure on the health system to deliver more care on an outpatient basis. While tending to health needs at home has a long history and some medical devices have been used in the home for many years, we are now witnessing an increasing migration of other devices and emergent technologies into the home setting. However most medical devices are designed for health professionals in formal health care settings and not for domestic use. Consequently there are many challenges to address the complexity demanded by the varied users within this environment. eHealth is the use of information and communication technologies (ICT) for health (WHO). According to the Royal College of Nursing (RCN) telehealth and telecare are relatively new eHealth services, the language used to describe them is still evolving and the terms used are interchangeable. Telehealth (also referred to as telemedicine) covers the remote monitoring of physiological data that can be used by health professionals for diagnosis or disease management. ... • 29. Advantages And Disadvantages Of Different Methods Of, And... Analyse the advantages and limitations of different methods of, and media for, making presentations A variety of communication media can be considered when planning to produce a presentation, for example verbal communication and written communication, each type of communication media has its advantages and limitations. When developing my presentation I decided to use both verbal and written communication, although both communication methods were used I had to ensure that they were used in the correct quantities. To keep my presentation engaging I tried to use as much visual representation as possible limiting the amount of text per slide. I chose to use PowerPoint because of its combination of written and verbal communication (not to mention the cost effectiveness of choosing PowerPoint and simplistic interface); the written aspects included the text on the slides, screenshots and images. The screenshots proved particularly useful as they was of the actual database used in the daily running of the Apprenticeships Store, once paired with the demonstration of inputting data into the database it ensured greater understanding due to more practical learning as opposed to theoretical learning. More detail was provided in my handouts ensuring I didn t give too much information at once and this allowed the audience to document any supplementary information I said during the presentation, by speaking and interpreting what was on the slides ensured the presentation remained fluid and ... • 30. All Summer In A Day By Ray Bradbury All Summer in a Day By Ray Bradbury is about a group of children who lives on a planet called Venus. Bradbury uses a variety of metaphors so the reader can imagine a life on venus. On this planet the sun only appears for only a few hours once every seven years. The children have very vague memory about the sun because they were far too young to remember what the sun was like except, Margot who remembers the sun very clear, because she lived in Ohio until she was five. Margot tells the other children that the sun is round like a penny and hot like a fire in the stove. The children didn t believe her and didn t understand why she loved the sun so much. The other children envy Margot because of her very clear and precise memories about the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 31. The Nazi Party s Inner Circle Essay How can ordinary people come to commit atrocities against defenceless victims? Hitler was an evil man, or at least was prepared to employ evil actions to achieve his goals. There is very little in literature to suggest anything contrary to this opinion. Most literature suggests that while Hitler had some level of power over Himmler and the rest of the Nazi Party s inner circle, they were also well aware of the extent and implications of their actions. Despite this, the atrocities of the Holocaust were not carried out by these evil leaders, but instead were the actions of thousands of ordinary people across Europe. In discussing how these people can be motivated to commit atrocities, I will focus on Christopher Browning s analysis of Holocaust police battalions, along with contradictory evidence. I will also compare the motivations of Hutu civilians in the mid 1990s, and how their experience supports and undermines Browning s theory. Browning is seen as a pioneer of Holocaust Studies, and his literature has drawn great respect and acceptance from the academic world (USHRI 1996). As such, I will take Browning s theory as my hypothetical explanation of how ordinary people come to commit atrocities against defenceless victims. Browning believes that indoctrination , along with the pressing circumstances of a dehumanising war , pushed ordinary men to commit atrocities of which they normally they would have considered themselves incapable (Browning 1992). Demographic landscape Overall, the population trends in the state of Florida exhibits a pronounced and exploding elderly population. Demographic trends are otherwise roughly consistent with nation wide patterns. Those trends include the nation s exponentially growing Hispanic population. Specific relevant demographics trends include a shift from distinctly Cuban Baby Boomer populations , which identified closely to Republican ideologies; to a younger Cuban generation that is more aligned with Democratic ideologies. More notable patterns involve radical demographic shifts due to an increasingly diminishing Millennial population. The dynamically increasing cost of housing demonstrates possible correlations to the change (Vitner, 2016). This may be attributable to the current goal of many in the millennial population to acquire home ownership. As such, The Miami/Fort Lauderdale/Pompano Beach metro area continues to shed its millennial population at an alarming rate (Munzenrieder, 2016). • 33. Magical Realism Two of the most widely recognized major contributors to Latin American Literature are Gabriel García Márquez s One Hundred Years of Solitude and Isabel Allende s Eva Luna. Both are written in the genre of magical realism, a literary form that describes fantasy and imaginary events in such a way that it becomes believable and real to the reader. Specifically, these books describe the geopolitical turmoil of Latin America during the early twentieth century and the mid twentieth century; respectively, dealing with war, suffering and death. Although the authors are of different genders, both of these books are written from a feminist perspective and merge fantasy with reality by introducing the reader to myths, prophecies, and legends that ... As previously stated, these incidents make it difficult for the reader to distinguish the boundary between reality and fiction. Like One Hundred Years of Solitude, Eva Luna uses magical realism in an oppressed Latin American environment as a means of social change. The book starts out as a myth beginning with its title and character name. Eva s name is symbolic itself. Eva, which means life and Luna, which is Spanish for moon is a symbol of the matriarchal power that women possess. The opening of the book places us in a world of magic to displace us from reality. The mission was a small oasis in the heart of an expanse of voluptuous vegetation writhing and twisting from the banks of the river to the feet of the monumental geologic towers that rose toward the firmament like one of God s mistakes (Allende p. 2). In addition to Eva s name being symbolic, her conception was brought about by magical realism. Eva was conceived as her Indian father lay dying from a venomous snake bite. Consuelo, Eva s mother, became aware that notwithstanding pain, fear of death, and shortness of breath, the gardener responded with ardent enthusiasm when she rubbed his body...that unexpected erection so moved her mature virgin s heart.... • 34. The English Peasant Uprising Essay The English Peasant Uprising was motivated by a growing contempt with the government and clergy following the Black Death which was finally set off by a series of immediate social and economic causes. A shortage of workers followed the Black Death with an estimated forty five per cent of the population dying in England . As entire towns were either deserted or left devoid of life, rural peasants increased their mobility into major cities. This shortage of rural workers led to famine as fields were left to go fallow, placing further economic pressure on the peasant classes who survived as the price of food increased. Due to the lack of labourers, the labourers who survived demanded greater wages as they now had increased leverage over ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Schools of thought such as held by the Lollards, followers of theologian and reformer John Wycliffe whom acted as lay preachers, were held responsible for the Uprising as they were critical of the church as an institution, particularly the concept of the Church owning land. As these Lollards travelled and preached their opposition to the Church as temporal power, they resonated with the peasants and became increasingly popular as unlike many of the priests and monks recruited after the Black Death, they were observed to be genuinely pious . The already solid dissatisfaction with the clergy only intensified with the imprisonment of a highly popular Lollard, John Ball. John Ball was imprisoned at Maidstone in Kent when he came into conflict with Simon of Sudbury Archbishop of Canterbury for lay preaching. The Hundred Years war with France is still ongoing at this point which was also adding further pressure to the lower classes due to the taxes needed to fund it. The war was very expensive, which meant more taxes had to be put in place to compensate for the lack of people paying taxes on account of forty five per cent of tax payers being dead. Not only were wages fixed by parliament, but parliament demanded more money from a populace already financially struggling under fixed wages and inflated food prices. • 35. Essay on Variety in The Merchant s Tale Use of Variety in The Merchant s Tale The Merchant s Tale tells the story of an old man searching for a wife and finding one, who is ultimately unfaithful to him. Chaucer uses a variety of elements in the poem to show his knowledge of contemporary interests and his story telling capacity through another figure. Irony flows through the poem, laced with allusions to the Bible. Chaucer s use of his astronomical knowledge not only allows modern day scholars to date events, but also adds another dimension of interest for the contemporary audience and of course, the pilgrims. Januarie s discussion of Heaven and Hell leads to the idea of marriage providing a Heaven on Earth. It is said that a wife is a husband s paradis terrestre, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Chaucer s knowledge of astronomy becomes evident at many points during the poem and has been useful for modern scholars wishing to date the Tale. The wedding day has been put down as Lady Day, 25th March 1392. Discussion of astronomy and the sky brings forth more elaborate language as on the evening of the wedding day, the phrase Parfourned as the sonne his ark diourne (l.583) introduces the next events of the day. In addition to this, there is always another dimension to the story. The wedding of Januarie and May takes place when Mars and Venus are in conjunction. This combination of the warring god and the god of love cannot bode well for the marriage, especially combined with the heavily ironic emphasis on Januarie s concern for having his Heaven on Earth. The marriage of May and Januarie brings attention to their names. While the spring month of May is full of life, the winter month of January is a new beginning (to the year), but still contains the cold deadness of winter. Eventually, spring defeats winter. There is a stark contrast between the characters of May and Januarie. The latter s roughness is especially focused upon on the wedding night. His skin is Lyk to the skyn of houndfyssh and there is an almost repulsive focus on his appearance. May is a much livelier, younger character and so Damyan, the lovesick squire seems ... • 36. Why Is Religion Important In Ancient Greece Religion was in the Ancient Greeks everyday lives, the Ancient Greeks believed in many different gods and goddesses. There was a god for almost every aspect of their lives. Religion was important to the ancient Greeks because as I said in the introduction paragraph they believed that it would make their lives better and also believed that the gods would lead them to a happy afterlife when they died. Festivals and parties were held in honor of the gods. Parents sometimes told stories about the gods to their children to teach them what s right and wrong and how to live a good life by pleasing the gods. Some stories said that if you went around thinking you were better than the gods, bad things would happen (getting struck by lightning, illness, etc). The Greeks also built temples for the gods and goddesses as homes and as a place for their people to worship their gods. The temples were decorated with paintings, statues, altars, and carvings, depending on the size and contents of the temple it showed how wealthy and powerful the city was. The Greeks built temples in every town for one god/goddess that were cared for by priests. • 37. The Rights Of Animal Rights Animal Rights Animals Rights is a big discussion that has been around for while. Many argue since animals aren t human, it doesn t matter how they are treated or taken care of. There are others that do care how our animals are treated and taken care of. Animal rights are rights believed to belong to animals to live free from use in medical research, hunting, and other services to humans. This topic has been around for a while but has become more absolute (Environmental Encyclopedia, Opposing Viewpoint). Animal rights involves personal, social, legal, religious, cultural values, belief, and decisions. This alone causes the viewpoint to vary based on many factors. Add in the many benefits animals have for humans and the lines are blurred further. Animals should be treated humanely as they are living breathing beings and are aware of their lives. Animals have similar levels of biological complexity, they make conscious choices, and they are conscious and aware they exist. Animals should have rights because many of them provide companionship for humans. Therapy dogs are canines that might be trained to provide affection and comfort to people in hospitals, nursing homes, schools, disaster areas, and people with autism (General SHCS Info). Farm animals provide services for humans such as producing milk, eggs, and wool. Animals like horses can be used to pull a plow, wagon, carriage, and can be ridden to go to places. 62% of all U.S. households more than 72.9 million ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 38. Analysis Of The Movie Memento We Come Across A Diner... In Memento we come across a diner scene where we see Teddy trying to help Leonard realize that living his life day by day based solely on pictures and notes can be problematic. In this scene Teddy says, Lenny, you can t trust a man s life to your little notes and pictures. Because your notes could be unreliable. Christopher Nolan directed Memento in 2000, which is adapted from Memento Mori written by Jonathan Nolan in 2000. Both Memento and Memento Mori tell a story about a man who uses photographs and notes to help him remember things as he searches for his wife s murderer without the use of his long term memory. Christopher Nolan produced a free adaptation of the shorty story, although the movie itself grasped the general concept it didn t exactly stay true to the little details presented throughout the short story. One of the ways this is done in the movie is through Nolan s editing. Nolan made the movie in reverse chronological order. This was done this way so the audience could connect more with the character Leonard. For example, in the beginning of Memento we start off with Leonard holding a photograph in his hand of what looks to be the murder of Teddy, as he flicks the photo back and fourth the picture slowly fades away turning the photo pitch black, soon you begin to realize that everything is being reversed and then we switch to a black and white scene of Leonard going over how he got in a motel room. Those specific scene edits automatically make the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
