The Origin Of The Lolita Subcultures
Finding out what to wear in the morning is a part of everyone s morning routine, but when it comes to
fashion trends what you wear appears to become more important. Reading magazines and watching
celebrates on the red carpet are a few ways in which people find out what is popular to dress in
something that is will make them fit in and be up to date with the fashion of the time. In the other hand
there are people who do exactly the opposite, more specifically those within the Lolita subculture. The
Lolita subculture is a Japanese fashion subculture known for its Victorian period clothing style corsets,
petticoats, and lace. What makes this fashion style unique is its similarities with 19th century girl and
doll dresses (Adèle Hardy Bernal, 2011, p. 20), but Lolitas were not dressing up in Victorian clothes
without a reason. The origins of the Lolita subculture can be traced back to as far as the late 1980 s.
Similar to the start of the British Punk subculture, in the 1980 s Japan went through a drastic economic
change referred to as the Bubble Burst or the burst of the Bubble Economy. During the time of the
Bubble Burst several people were laid off from their jobs, women became stay at home mothers, and
overall the youth lost hope for a successful future in Japan. The state of the economy caused anger,
disappointment. The youth in Japan began to care less about the traditional Japanese values such as
dedication to your job, and the respect of elders. People all over

Blood In Crime Scene Investigation
Blood
When it comes to crime scene investigation, the most visually spectacular aspect is likely blood
spatter. From Dexter to CSI, the the method by which blood leaves the body and interacts with the
environment has caught the imagination of writers, viewers, and scientists alike. The information we
can glean from blood includes position of victim or perpetrator within a scene to information about the
blood donor him or herself. There are many different methods investigators use to analyze this
evidence, but the all have one thing in common: the all involve blood.
What is Blood?
Blood is the major fluid that moves throughout the body, carrying nourishment to tissues and cells,
while helping us maintain body temperature and body pH. The circulatory

Albert Bandura s Theory Of Radical Behaviorism Theory
Parsimony is often regarded as one of the cornerstones in the evaluation of psychological constructs
and theories. Importantly, the condition of parsimony in itself presents a risk, potentially placing an
unnecessary limitation, when a more complex explanation may better reflect the overall complex
nature of the fundamental underlying concept that is under scrutiny (Epstein, 1984). Albert Bandura s
social cognitive theory and B. F. Skinner s theory of radical behaviourism have provided two of the
most influential contributions to psychology, and when examining Skinner and Bandura s theories,
this notion of parsimony becomes highly prevalent, as it is the most significant way in which the two
theories differ. This stark contrast in parsimony arises from the methodological differences between
the two theories in their treatment of the role of cognition. Skinner s theory asserts a situationalist
perspective of personality which is underpinned by the idea that all behaviour is purely deterministic
and solely caused by the environment, thus by consequence any learning of new behaviours or
personality occurs independently of the learner (Murphy, Maltby and Cloninger, 2010; Skinner, 1950).
By contrast, Bandura (Murphy, Maltby and Cloninger; 2010, Bandura, 2001, 2006) proposes a
dynamic perspective of personality which underpins the notion of reciprocal determinism,
encompassing a complex and dynamic interaction between personal factors (namely cognition),
behaviour and the

See What I Say
See What I m Saying is true to scientific facts and offers material that can help to deepen and expand
one s sensory experience. The book is full of amazing examples of individuals utilizing their senses in
ways that seem unreal. It is interesting, attention grabbing and can show just how magical ordinary
life can be. While admitting that I did not believe that I would like this book at first, after reading I
found it to be far more thought provoking than ever imagined. I especially loved the end of the book
where Rosenblum states, In a way, this entire book is a lie. (p267) He says that it is a lie because of the
way he divides up the chapters into five sections, therefore giving the impression that he supports the
traditional idea that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I believe that students could acquire a significant amount of information out of reading this book.
Rosenblum does an exemplary job of showing that every one of us has incredible perceptual
capabilities that we use all the time, even if we are not completely aware that we are using these
abilities. Although not exactly to the extent to which we see in the book; we use smell to determine
other people s moods and emotions. We also use our sight to a surprisingly large extent to listen to
what someone is saying to us; for example in a crowded restaurant, when it is difficult to hear we try
to read lips along with trying to listen. We also use hearing as well as sight to travel from place to
place. And as these examples show, our senses combine more often than we might think to help us
better navigate around the world that we live in. Also, our brains appear to be designed to deal with
multisensory perception and can, for instance, interpret auditory input as visual information. These
concepts and ideas help open the minds of students and teach them things about perception and our
senses that they would never know. I know that it personally did that for me. His approach to
explaining these phenomena s is an interesting thought provoking way that I think students will be
able to follow and stay captivated. Reading this book is important for 4220 students, and honestly all
students on courses where they are learning about the

The Ethical Use Of Landmines In West Africa
Paul Jefferson, an early humanitarian deminer once said: a landmine is the perfect soldier: Ever
courageous, never sleeps, never misses (Khamis par. 1). Jefferson s quote can be interpreted in two
ways: that a landmine is a great weapon and all countries should use it, or that a landmine is too
dangerous for one s own good. For years, landmines have been affordable, yet dangerous killers that
countries use to defend their borders in war. But as wars end, countries often forget about their rural
parts and the destruction left from war, leaving citizens in the danger from landmines. The immoral
and unethical use of landmines in West Africa will continue to create an impoverished and
uneconomic society for thousands of innocent people due to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Landmines are planted in countries like Nigeria during civil wars by militant groups, but they are
undocumented and the government does not know where militant groups put them. In 2009, Nigeria s
Article 7 report stated that there were suspected mined areas in the war affected areas in the Eastern
part of Nigeria that might be contaminated with Biafran locally fabricated explosive devices
(International campaign, par. 14). The lasting effects of landmines from the Biafran civil still cost the
government due to the undocumentation and danger of militant landmines. As time continues,
governments work to rebuild rural areas affected by landmines. Countries for decades after a war ends
still spend billions in cleaning up a mess. In an article from the Nigerian Daily Times:
The Economic Community of West Africa States (ECOWAS) Court on Monday ordered the Federal
Government to pay some communities in 10 states where land mines were laid during the Nigeria
Biafra civil war the sum of N50 billion as compensation. The Community Court also ordered the
Federal Government to pay another sum of N38 billion to RSB Holdings Nigeria Limited and

Drafting the Constitution Essay
By the late eighteenth century, America found itself independent from England; which was a
welcomed change, but also brought with it, its own set of challenges. The newly formed National
Government was acting under the Articles of Confederation, which established a firm league of
friendship between the states, but did not give adequate power to run the country. To ensure the young
nation could continue independently, Congress called for a Federal Convention to convene in
Philadelphia to address the deficiencies in the Articles of Confederation. While the Congress only
authorized the convention to revise and amend the Articles the delegates quickly set out to develop a
whole new Constitution for the country. Unlike the Articles of ... Show more content on

One of the first debates over the institution of the National Executive was whether the Executive
should consist of a single person as motioned by James Wilson, of Pennsylvania, and seconded by
Charles Pinckney, of South Carolina. The idea of a single Executive met with strong opposition due to
conjuring images of their former oppression under British rule. Due to the fact that all delegates were
old enough to remember, many of them to have fought against, the rule by Britain, it was easy for
them to compare what they were trying to create to what they already knew and in some cases
detested. To defend against the Executive morphing into a monarchy there was a suggestion of a three
person Executive branch that was put forward by Randolph who felt the people would not properly
support a signal Executive. The idea of a three person branch would give a representative from the
Northern, Middle, and Southern States. Pierce Butler of South Carolina, having seen firsthand in
Holland the issues caused by plurality, strongly objected. As happened many times during the
convention the motion was postponed. James Madison made the suggestion that the powers of the
president devised before there be a decision of single or plural Executive stating, definition of their
extent would assist the judgment in determining how far they might safely entrusted to a single officer.

of Matachines will have their own story to tell depending on the event however, they all dance for the
same religious purpose. One of the main stories ever told by any group of Matachines is typically
about one of the main characters, Malinche, whose only desire is for El Monarca to murder El Toro
who is represented by a man with horns on his head running around and through the dancers. El Toro
threatens Monarca, Malinche, and anyone else in his way. The evil then is finally overpowered, killed,

Introduction
What is Personality?
Personality is a series of characteristic thoughts, feelings and behaviour that differentiates one human
being to another and that continues over time and situation (Phares, 1991). According to Ryckman,
Personality is the sum of biologically based and learnt behaviour which comprises and forms the
person s particular responses to environmental stimuli (Ryckman, 1982).

A personality trait may vary, as in be more or less visible base on the situation, this can also differ on
the basis of time (Phares, 1991). The changes that reflect particular event and feelings during the
lifespan of an individual only affect the surface and not the core character of the individual.
Intellectual changes in a personality are usually consequences of major life altering changes (Costa
McCrae, 1992).
It is necessary that individuals accept and adapt to the certain circumstances that they face in lift and
at the same time they need to retain the inner core trait of personality that defines them. Certain traits
or adaptation are general and easily accepted. Also they follow a certain pattern, for example,
Sensation seeking this is a characteristic that diminishes over time from teens to middle agers in
mostly all cultures (Costa McCrae, 1980). Neuroticism and frankness to experience diminishes over a
certain peiod of time and on the other hand self esteem, conscientiousness and agreeableness increase
in an individual (Neyer, 2000). The expressions of any personality of an individual largely depends on
age and maturity. These activity levels in individuals may thus enhance the likeliness for a sport at a
young age and gardening at an older age (Costa McCrae, 1980).

Compassion Fatigue Paper
The current class has been very informative on nursing theories and it is the dream of every aspiring
nursing student and registered nurses to provide compassionate care to the patients. Nurses have a role
not only to offer physical care but to offer mental, spiritual and emotional support to patients as well.
Patients with complex and frequently diverse needs must be given the full attention of the nurse based
on their needs. Consistent research indicated the significant benefits which ensue when nurses offer
compassionate care; however this is not always the case, especially among nurses which are involved
in direct care of terminally ill patients and such nurses end up suffering from compassion fatigue, this
is what Joinson (1992) described ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Compassion fatigue is a huge reality and according to Potter et al. (2013), long term effects of
compassion fatigue have negative impact on the health, well being and performance of nurses
involved. Jean Watson s theory of caring said, true healing cannot be realized without caring therefore,
compassion fatigue is a problem that does not only affect nurses, but goes a notch higher by also
affecting the quality of care offered by compassion fatigue victims. Boyle (2011) observed that there is
need for nurses to be compassionate and caring especially when providing care to patients, families or
relatives. Slatten et al. (2011) noted that compassion fatigue is an occupational hazard among nurses
involved (that is, professionals involved in helping others). Compassion fatigue is therefore, a
significant problem affecting professional practice in nursing because Rosa (2014) stated that, being a
successful caregiver requires a nurse to be in a position to find the meaning in what they do, remain
committed and immersed in order to gain a sense of purpose. However, compassion fatigue stands as a
barrier to realization of sense of purpose among

The Colonel Michael Hogan Summary
The author of The Colonel, Michael Hogan, details how a certain Army Colonel influenced his life
through the sport of tennis. Hogan begins by indicating how mainstreamed tennis is today, to the point
an average adolescent could not imagine tennis as a rich man sport. In the fifties, when Hogan was a
child, tennis was a sport reserved for mostly men at country clubs and private resorts. Women had
competed at international competitions such as Wimbledon for a several years, but many of them were
amateurs (oftentimes paid little). Fortunately for female tennis players, Billie Jean King s
assertiveness, in 1967, and the Virginia Slim tournaments, in the seventies, influenced tennis to
include women in professional tennis (such as Chris Everts ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Hogan s father told him of the great players from his day: Poncho Gonzales, Ken Rosewall, Jack
Kramer. He did not really care, as the names meant nothing to him, but he looked up to the Colonel,
with great stories about the recent war. Hogan was interested in war stories as his father s brother,
Harry, died in Belgium during the war; Harry s name memorialized the nearby Little League baseball
field. On a Saturday afternoon, after getting home early from work, Hogan stopped to talk with the
Colonel. The Colonel obviously loved tennis, telling stories from competitions when in college and in
the service. He amused the young boy with stories of tournaments, matches with famous players, and
games in remote parts of the world. The Colonel considered tennis a sport, after one learns how to
play it, that person can play for the rest of their life. When one has no one to play with, or their body
stops working correctly, one can still enjoy a game of tennis (but not football, basketball, or baseball).
Tennis could be played anywhere, as one can always find someone to play with. The Colonel hooked
the young Hogan to play. Maybe it was the Colonel s stories, Hogan s enthusiasm, his respect of the
Colonel s rank, his cheerful personality, or his war experiences. Hogan may have not wanted to
disappoint the venerable man (and likely so); despite this, Hogan was ready to learn the game of

The Birthmark by Hawthorne
Representation of Evil In Hawthorne s short story The Birthmark , Aylmer feels that his wife
Georgiana is a miracle and that she is perfect. Her only flaw was the birthmark in the shape of a hand
placed on her cheek. Instead of focusing on all her Georgiana s perfections, Aylmer only focused on
one of her flaws, the birthmark. Aylmer constructs a statement about her birthmark saying that, It was
the fatal flaw of humanity which Nature, in one shape or another, stamps ineffaceably on her
productions, either to imply that they are temporary and finite, or that their perfection must be
wrought by toil and pain. (Meyer 345) Aylmer s abhorrence for Georgiana s imperfection is a
representation of evil in this story, he talks about Nature or God and how spiritual he is during the
whole story; but his key focal point shifts to her imperfection. This is a representation of evil for the
actuality that she carried one physical defect and that is all Aylmer could focus on. People like this are
called pessimistic, since they only concentrate the awful or expect the worst. Georgiana was perfectly
at ease for the way she was until her husband kept making comments about her until she became self
conscious about

wife turned into an obsession of trying to mold her look the way he wanted her to, not the way God

History Of The Ghost Dance
The Ghost Dance was a sign of hope for the Native American that they truly believed in. The fact that
many of them would dance till unconscious shows the determination and faith that the Native
Americans had in the hope of being free once again. Not many citizens in this day and age have faith
as strong as the Native Americans; which, can be quite disheartening at times. It is infuriating how the
government treated civil, non threatening, cooperative human beings known as Native Americans. In
fact, those Native Americans were people that rightfully belonged to those native lands. The general
policy came across as not even seeing these people as actual human beings more as an unwanted
nuisance that could be controlled by means of arbitrary acts

Acute Pain Vs. Chronic Pain
1. The difference between acute pain and chronic pain is based on their characteristics such as causes,
function, and neuron structure. Acute pain travels along the spinothalamic tract to the sensory motor
cortex, as chronic pain is less localized in the anterolateral pathway to the brainstem. The fibers that
are used in acute pain are myelinated fibers that carry signals rapidly, and when there is no stimulation
the signal stops. Unlike chronic pain where the fibers are unmyelinated, carry signals slowly, and the
signal does not stop when stimulation stops. In chronic pain, there is also continuing tissue damage, as
the nociceptive pathway neurons become more sensitive. In acute pain, there are tissue damages, but it

The Southwest Blackout Of 2003
The Northeast blackout of 2003 was one of the most critical blackouts in the history which affected
more than 50 million people in both the United States and Canada. The main cause of this disaster was
a software bug in the energy management system used by FirstEnergy Corporation, located in Akron,
Ohio. This is a perfect example of poor quality coding may led to a big disaster. For a perfectly
planned power grid, the power generation of each region is matched with the power consumption
within this region, so that the power lines will always carry a reasonable workload. If one power line
fails to work, other parallel lines would have to carry extra power, which is bad for safety and may
lead to fire. The power system operators are the ones ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
And the generating plant don t know it either. Then, because the workload was assigned to other lines,
several other lines in the region also declined to work for self protection, and the whole Ohio and
Michigan got blackout short after. The company and other government departments noticed the
problem, but hardly have anything to do at the time. The cascading effect is already unstoppable. Each
generating plant can only separate their generators from the power grid to prevent the large current
destroy their generators. So almost all the generating plants in northeastern United States and Ontario
went offline, and the whole region got blackout. This happened in only 2 hours. Water pumps cannot
work without power supply, so some areas also have water supply problem. And other services like
public transportation (e.g. TTC streetcars), communication, and media (radio and TV stations) also
affected. Some areas recovered from the blackout the same night, but most areas did not get power
back until August 16th, two days after the accident. Both United States government and Canada
government were criticized, and they adopted some policy to prevent future blackouts after it.
Following the blackout, a thorough investigation of the energy control system was taken. GE s
developers looked through millions of lines of code and log to find the bug, and it them weeks to
finally locate the bug. The bug is known as a race condition in computer science,

Review of The Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra, conducted by Bernard Haitink in 2009
The Symphony No. 6 in F major, Op. 68 was composed by Beethoven and was completed in
1808. It is also referred to as Pastoral Symphony. In 2009, Bernard Haitink conducted the performance
of the symphony by the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra.
From Haitink s concert on Beethoven s sixth symphony, I was expecting to see the original work of
composer. The symphony has qualities of both the classical and romantic periods and illustrates
composer s radical ideas as well as highlighting his classical influences. Its programmatic nature is the
main romantic feature though the dramatic dynamic changes, as well as the use of percussion and
brass, are also ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Programmatic symphonies occurred primarily in the late Romantic and Classical period. The
repetition of the different subjects is a feature is a programmatic symphony and, therefore, a romantic
trait. For example, the bird calls produced by the strings in bar
151 are programmatic.
Haitink s traversal of the Pastoral is a fine achievement, established on tempi that strike the viewers.
On the first movement, he takes it at a flowing, warm tempo. The Orchestra plays radiantly for him.
The played symphony has a nice, firm bass line, revealingly enriched at intervals by the horns, and its
attention to dynamics is meticulous throughout the whole symphony. The first movement ends in such
a way that, the symphony can be heard as a wonderfully civilized and wise account of the
performance.
The second movement is designed beautifully. Once again the tempo is skillfully chosen.
The woodwinds and the strings afford Haitink some fine playing and there are several lovely
woodwind solos for the audience to enjoy. The third movement is lithe and light this is a joyful and
well sprung dance. The subsequent storm is exciting, featuring some thrilling strikes on the timpani.
The finale brings an excellent summary of the performance. In Haitink s experienced hands, the
symphony is serene, displaying an inner radiance and warmth. The style is demonstrative and
completely natural. The pacing is perfect and the playing is glowing.
Even though Haitink shapes

Future Contract Essay
Futures contract
In finance, a futures contract is a standardized contract between two parties to exchange a specified
asset of standardized quantity and quality for a price agreed today (the futures price or the strike price)
but with delivery occurring at a specified future date, the delivery date. The contracts are traded on a
futures exchange. The party agreeing to buy the underlying asset in the future, the buyer of the
contract, is said to be long , and the party agreeing to sell the asset in the future, the seller of the
contract, is said to be short . The terminology reflects the expectations of the parties the buyer hopes
the asset price is going to increase, while the seller hopes for a decrease. Note that the contract ...

To minimize counterparty risk to traders, trades executed on regulated futures exchanges are
guaranteed by a clearing house. The clearing house becomes the buyer to each seller, and the seller to
each buyer, so that in the event of a counterparty default the clearer assumes the risk of loss. This
enables traders to transact without performing due diligence on their counterparty.
Margin requirements are waived or reduced in some cases for hedgers who have physical ownership

CONSTRUCTION MANAGEMENT
CHAPTER TWO
2.1. INTRODUCTION
Good dairy housing design requires knowledge of the various dairying concepts and applying this
knowledge to building construction to create a facility that provides quality performance in its
suitability for the cows accommodation and efficiency in the facility operations. This chapter covers
existing literature related to the topic of research that will help in informing the research. This chapter
will further outline key design factors to be considered in dairy housing.
2.2. GENERAL CONSIDERATIONS
An efficient management of cattle will be incomplete without a well planned and adequate housing of
cattle. Improper planning in the arrangement of animal housing may result in additional labour
charges and that curtail the profit of the owner. During erection of a house for dairy cattle, care should
be taken to provide comfortable accommodation for an individual cow. No less important is the proper
sanitation, durability, and efficient arrangement plan for the stalls and production of clean milk under
convenient and economic conditions, etc. (TNAU, 2009)
There are a number of statements within the Code of Recommendations for the Welfare of Livestock:
Cattle published by Defra (2003) regulations that relate to the accommodation for animals outlining
the minimum requirements for dairy cattle welfare extracted from The Welfare of

At a young age kids are active and need to be socially involved with others their own age. Youth

observation I interviewed two players and one parent. I viewed a 7 8 year old youth basketball game.
There are many different factors that involve youth sports. The first relationship is the player to player
relationship. The players interact with each other often, on and off the field. During timeouts and in
between quarters players initiate interaction between each other. The players mainly just want to have
fun. The next relationship is between the parents and players. Most of the interaction between them is
initiated by the parents. They tend to yell things at their child to make them play better or to
complement them. The players don t talk back to the parents. A couple parents at halftime would bring
their child something to drink and talk to them.

Suspense In Agatha Christie s And Then There Were None
Most people would thoroughly enjoy a stay on an exotic private island and then afterwards return to
their normal life. However, this is not the case for the ten main characters of Agatha Christie s novel
And Then There Were None. While they have been invited to Indian Island, an island off the Devon
Coast of England, they are never again able to leave it. Each of the ten people has murdered somebody
and has not received consequences for it. Justice Wargrave, the killer, feels that it is his duty to serve
justice on them. He carefully develops a plan to lure each person to Indian Island, an island off the

the island may die soon. At first the people on the island laugh and call the nursery rhyme remarkably
childish. (39) However, they soon start fearing it. If one person dies the same way as in the nursery

realizes that the deaths are not accidental. In this way, Christie turns a fun and lighthearted rhyme into
a dark and ominous one. This creates a sense of unease as the reader and the characters begin to

Similarities Between Ww1 And Russia
There are parallels between what was happening in Ireland and Russia during World War I that
spurred revolution in both of them. Both countries were generally unhappy with their government and
their involvement in the war. The war amplified the problems, like poverty in Russia and England
limiting Ireland s government, that already existed in both of those countries. Without the negative
impacts of World War I on countries like Russia and Ireland, there would have been less of a call for
revolution.
The social and political climate in Russia changed greatly during WWI. The main reason was because
the people began to dislike the imperial family. Tzar Nicholas II put himself in charge of Russia s
military and let his people down. His leadership led to many defeats and morale in Russia became low.

government. Both Russia and Ireland were displeased with their governments and a large reason these

Strategic Human Resource Management Approaches
Strategic Human Resource Management is the joining of human resource activities and policies with
strategic organisational goals for the benefit of achieving and maintaining quality performance of the
organisation. The aim of SHRM is to effectively create strategic quality by ensuring that the
organisation possess the committed, skilled, productive and motivated employees it needs in order to
achieve sustained competitive advantage.

and finally reveal the one that I find the most convincing and the reasons why, by examining the four
models and their implications on a firm s performance. There are four major approaches that need to

makes it easier for organisation s to recognise bad practices.
They are Best Practices , because the implementation of this approach aims at improving the
performance of the organisation through additional, accountability, compliance, transparency and risk
control.
The exact meaning of best practices have become so diverse that organisations often move away from
the uniformity of the meaning. It is easy for employees to lose their voice within the organisation
using this model, and also changes made may not be appropriate from one department of the
organisation to another.
Very few businesses adopt the best practice model because it is difficult and also takes too long to
implement. There are limitations to this approach, like the fact that it is unitarist and does not take
employee perspective into account, they ignore national and organizational contexts. This approach is
crisis driven and actually has a poor track record. This approach has been

Augustine s Growth In The Confessions
Throughout The Confessions, Augustine experiences growth in all facets of life, especially in his
ability to focus on his spirituality, to prioritize his relationships, and to satisfy his intellectual hunger.
This development allows him to improve the way that he grieves the loss of significant family
members. In his autobiography, Augustine shows clear signs of growth in the way that he handles
death and grief. This is evident by the way Augustine explains his struggle with the death of his father,
special friend, mother, and son. Augustine s grief remains selfish, immature, and excessive during his
adolescence, however, develops to become healthy and controlled as a result of his relationship with
God. It is not Augustine s age which leads ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
His blurred vision of what is important in life caused his grieving to be excessive and selfish.
Augustine expresses the burden of his mourning by saying, Feverishly I trashed about, sighed, wept,
and was troubled, and there was no response for me, nor any counsel. Within me I was carrying a
tattered, bleeding soul that did not want me to carry it, yet I could find no place to put it down (64). In
this passage, Augustine selfishly mourns, focusing on his personal pain. He expresses how he was hurt
because his friend was snatched He uses strong diction such as feverishly, wept, troubled, and tattered,
bleeding soul that evoke emotion in the reader s mind. This intense word choice allows the reader to
visualize Augustine s pain and suffering. Each word carries purpose and reiterates the idea that
Augustine was consumed by his sorrow while conveying a hopeless tone. Augustine also expresses the
intensity of his struggle by stating, Black grief closed over my heart and wherever I went I only saw
death (62). Because Augustine was so incapable of continuing his life due to severe grief, he had no
option but to reevaluate his life to determine where he went wrong. This struggle with grief was a
critical turning point which helped him realize that his inappropriate love for things in this world were
the reason for his depression and

A Comparison Between Sodium Thisulfate And Carbonic Acid
The sodium cation did not have an effect on pH. We tested sodium acetate, sodium carbonate, sodium
bicarbonate, sodium bisulfate, sodium bisulfite, sodium chloride, sodium citrate, sodium formate,
sodium iodide, and sodium hydroxide. The pHs of these compounds ranged from 1.25 to 13.00, which
were sodium bisulfate and sodium hydroxide, respectively. Sodium bisulfite and sodium carbonate
had average measured pHs of 4.24 and 11.13, respectively. Since this range is so wide, we can

For a pool to be usable to swim in, it must be at a certain pH. If a pool is too basic or too acidic, then
this can cause some serious health issues to that particular person. Most people monitor the pH to be at
7.5 to get the most effectiveness of sanitation. Another application where pH is important is when
studying the stomach. The human stomach contains gastric acid, which is used to break down food
particles. This is beneficial with digestion but can cause problems such as heartburn. Heartburn occurs
when the gastric acid in one s stomach goes back up to the esophagus. This can be counteracted
however by using a basic substance such as Tums. The base will then make the solution in the
esophagus neutral and relieve the person of their heartburn. D) If all 23 compounds had the same

The Frog Heart And The Frog Heart
The development of perfusion solutions such as Ringers solution enables us to study basic cardiac
functions. These solutions are based on the composition of extracellular fluid that is able to sustain
isolated organs and allow them to perform as they do inside the body (Silverthorn, 2013).The frog
heart beats slowly and therefore allows us to easily observe the mechanical activity of the cardiac
cycle (Courtice, 1989).
The heart is made up of cardiac muscle. Compared to skeletal muscle, cardiac muscle exhibits a few
differences such as rhythmicity. The frog heart is different to the mammalian heart in that it has three
chambers instead of four (Sherwood et al, 2013). The pacemaker cells are located in the sinus venosus
as opposed to in the sinoatrial (SA) node in mammals. The sinus venosus receives deoxygenated
blood from the veins which drain most of the body organs and empties it into the right atrium.
Oxygenated blood from the lungs returns to the left atrium. The single ventricle receives the blood
from both atria and pumps it through a single large artery known as the truncus arteriosus (Sherwood
et al, 2013). There is little mixing of the two pools of blood due to the structural organisation of the
ventricle and the outflow tract. Due to the organisation, oxygenated blood is delivered to the brain and
tissues while deoxygenated blood flows to the lungs and to the skin through which the frog exchanges
gases and water (Sherwood et al, 2013).
During the experiment, a pithed frog will be used to determine the effect of temperature and certain
drugs on the activity of the heart. In endotherms, humans for example, rate and strength of the
heartbeat increases as temperature increases due the effect that an increased temperature has on
enzymatic reactions (Silverthorn, 2013). When the environmental temperature decreases, the heart rate
initially speeds up to increase metabolism which ultimately will increase heat production in order to
maintain homeostasis. However, once core body temperature decreases, cardiac activity decreases due
to the decreasing rate of chemical reactions (Silverthorn, 2013). Because frogs are ectotherms, their
core body temperature is dependent on the environment. It is expected that an

Consequences Of Statistical Inferences Providing A Result
Consequences of statistical inferences providing a result rather than an answer could include
researchers incorrectly applying related management implications to their studies, when in reality they
are applying a treatment that was not correctly interpreted. This could result in the new study
producing a non significant result when a biologically significant result should have been detected.
Researchers desperate for a significant P value may claim an observation that was not present in the
study, or perform researchers degrees of freedom, which is defined as decision making as researchers
conduct the study, and not beforehand.
b. Truth cannot be derived from a single study; it must be repeated to increase the precision of the
study and therefore the strength of inference made about the results. Often, using the same sample and
similar methods will not procure similar results, and therefore a consensus of studies should be
provided to make a general claim. Studies that truly follow the scientific method and include
randomization and repeatability will be closer to discovering the truth than other studies.
c. In the vitamin E study, the first studies conducted on the effects on vitamin E continued to be cited
and defended even when new evidence showed their results were incorrect because they felt true. This
still happens in natural science; for example, McCullough s study on the George Reserve in Michigan
was based on 1 population of deer consisting of a small

The notion of filmmaking at this age was merely to document real life, and this novelty of seeing a
presentation of ?reality? captivated the audience of its era. However, these films showed movement
toward camera from right to left, which later became a standard technique for staging action for the
next few years (http://www.earlycinema.com/atoz/index.html). Thus, the Lumiere brothers? pioneered
not just the technical attributes of the camera but also its artistic attributes, creating a dialogue of
realism (Lumiere, 1895:302).
This novelty of cinema, and Lumiere brothers? short films fascinated a man named Melies, who was
later to further develop this medium. In 1896 Melies bought his first camera and began screening other

Film Analysis Of The Hurt Locker
I chose The Hurt Locker mainly because it was the only film I recognized from the list of movies we
could choose from. I also knew that it was action packed and very entertaining to watch the characters.
The opening scene is the sequence I went with because of the large amount going on and it also sets
the tone for the rest of the movie. The Hurt Locker takes place in Iraq a year after the war started.
There are three main characters: Staff Sergeant James, Sergeant Sanborn, and Specialist Eldridge. All
three are on an elite Army Explosive Ordnance Disposal team working to make the city a safer place
by dismantling improvised explosive devices (IEDs). With less than a month left before their duty is
up, surviving their time in Iraq has become even more of a challenge with James as the new leader.
The Hurt Locker dives right into the action with three characters attempting to disassemble an IED.
This beginning scene and the majority of the movie have a documentary effect. The hand in camera
with all the jerky movement going on gives the audience that feeling. It is a great way to present the
film, as this gives the audience a sense of being there in Iraq. The scene starts off with Sergeant
Thompson walking toward the bomb on a hot day in a heavy suit. You can hear Thompson breathing
hard with the sun beating on him. With the light effects, you can see the heat in the air. All this in mind
the viewer is able to feel sympathy for the character without knowing much about him.

Comparing Hubris In Frankenstein And The Picture Of Dorian...
Hubris is clearly prominent in both novels and a major theme in gothic literature. Dorian Gray is a
novel obsessed with the aesthetic movement, Wilde clearly criticising the upper class Victorian desire
when Dorian exclaims: If it were I who was to be always young... (Ch.2. 29) Modern readers are able
to relate to this desire in a social media obsessed world where arguably beauty can be powerful. The
novel with hidden meaning beneath relates to Wilde s own need for discretion in life trying to conceal
his own homosexuality from the preying public eye. Thus possibly Wilde is trying to present the idea
that it is society s evil that turns the innocent into the corrupt, Dorian not being strong or

Yet different to The Picture of Dorian Grey, in the modern era the moral behind Frankenstein is
somewhat lost the monster becoming a childlike manifestation of Shelley s character. Arguably the

The only innocent character in Frankenstein is arguably Walton he narrating the novel in epistolary
form, Victor and the creature fighting head to head for the embedded narratives. Perhaps this narrative
reflects the distance of the characters, both Victor and the monster isolated from the people and the
world around them. This links them together at the end of the novel Frankenstein s monster realising
in his final monologue that: ...while I destroyed his (Victors) hopes, I did not satisfy my own

Exploring Tax Morale Essay
The question of why people pay taxes is as old as taxes themselves. Allingham and Sandmo (1972)
provided the main theoretical model based on the economics of crime approach (Becker [1968] 1974)
where individuals would evade taxes as long as the payoff from tax evasion outweighs the costs of
being caught evading. Increasing the costs of cheating more audits, and stiffer penalties should reduce
tax evasion. Unfortunately, over time that theoretical approach has shown its limitations. First, it
cannot explain why observed levels of tax compliance in empirical studies and in experiments are
higher than the model s theoretical predictions based on probabilities of detection and penalties.
Second, exclusive reliance on incentives may crowd ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
That has prompted the search for alternative models that may better capture the complexity of tax
compliant behavior (Alm, 1999). Theoretical concerns focused on the role of norms in explaining tax
compliance behavior or attitudes about complying with taxes (e.g. Cullings and Lewis 1997,
Schnellenbach 2006) Taxpayers may have an intrinsic motivation to comply with taxes which was
termed Tax Morale (Torgler 2003b, 2006) which is shaped by individual and institutional norms
(Torgler, 2003b). Unlike the traditional model of tax evasion, taxpayers rationality is assumed as
limited; norms act as devices helping individuals to make their own tax compliance decisions (Torgler,
2003b) Although limited by the still developing links between tax compliance attitudes and tax
compliant behavior (Halla, 2010) empirical results show plausibly Tax Morale may influence taxpayer
behavior as it appears correlated with the size of the underground economy (Alm and Torgler 2006,
Torgler and Schneider 2007).
The purpose of this paper is to work on the finding that trust in government affects Tax Morale to
propose a more precise explanation on how governments elicit taxpayers trust. Using insights from the
literature on political trust and social capital, we will contend that what drives trust in government are
the actions of government officials street level bureaucrats when they interact with individuals at the
adjudication of public goods and services.

need to re invent the future as the present catches up.
While Walt Disney sat on a park bench at an amusement park and started to dream up ways to get the
whole family involved, his idea worked out better than he ever imagined. His simple idea of
incorporating the past, the present, and the future, lead to one of the greatest man made entertainment
destinations to ever happen in history. As Walt Disney himself said it All our dreams can come true, if

Analysis Of Bell Hooks And The Shadow Of Race
In the article Learning in the Shadow of race in Class author bell hooks ties in the three argument
elements ethos, pathos, and logos to support her claim. She uses ethos, her educational and social class
background in order to show why her desires were often made to seem worthless or stupid, pathos, her
own personal story and logos by giving real world examples through her own experiences that also
relate to her audience s emotions. She questions the role of race and social class in the life of a nation,
claiming that an individual s family yearly income should not determine where they fit in society
when achieving a higher education.
bell hooks gains the power and credibility of her audience through knowledge of the topic at hand,
establishing peace with the reader, and demonstrating honesty. Ethos shows an audience that the writer
is credible, or expert in the subject of the agreement. bell hooks is widely known for being a writer,
feminist thinker, and her academic background. She establishes her credentials through her personal
struggles with understanding social class during adolescent. The reader gains respect for hooks as she
takes the audience back to a time where they may have desired something, but never attained. For
example she says, As a child, [she] often wanted things money could buy that [her] parents could not
afford and would not get (hooks, 138). bell hooks writes to not only help others find strength to hold
on to their desires, but to show how

The Poem Casey At The Bat
Is it possible to create a successful movie from just one simple, abrupt poem? The poem Casey at the
Bat is about a baseball game that is reaching its final moments and the main character Casey must step
up to help his team. Although, two of Casey s teammates must bat before him, which the audience was
nervous about. There were two outs when his teammates stepped up to the plate, and miraculously
both of them were able to get on base. When Casey moved into the batter s box everyone in the entire
ballpark knew Casey was going to get a hit and win the game. Alas, Casey was a little too confident
and after just three pitches the mighty Casey was put away back to the dugout. The narrative Casey at
the Bat, will be turned into a movie and these will be the main points made in the movie. ... Show

As Casey would waltz up toward home plate, there would be confident music playing in the
background. By doing this, the audience would be thinking Casey will pull off a miracle and win the
game for his hometown Mudville. On the flipside, once Casey struck out I would cue the sound effect
of a sad trombone, and leave everyone with pure disappointment. But there is no joy in Mudville:
Mighty Casey has struck out. (Thayer Line #52) That quote from the poem Casey at the Bat would be
the final line of the movie while the sad trombone played in the background. Clearly, the simple use of
music or sound can be quite effective in the perception of

The War Of The Iraq War
On September 11, 2001, two planes crashed into the World Trade Center in New York City, New York.
This was the very first contact that the United States of America had with the terrorism that went on in
Iraq. March 20, 2003 marked the day that President George W. Bush announced the start of the war
against Iraq (1). This was the beginning of a very costly war on both America and Iraq. The cost of the
Iraq War was not just the amount of money spent, but the impact of war on the soldiers and the toll
that it took on the families of those who were involved, as well as the amount of time and dedication
of resources put into the war by the Government. The amount of money spent during the Iraq War is a
number that is not easily understood. The initial cost of the Iraq War has totaled up to be somewhere
around 1.7 trillion dollars as of 2013 (2). While this is a staggering number, it has only become worse.
A study has shown that the expenses over the next four decades could total up to be around 6 trillion
dollars not to mention the interest rate which could add another 4 trillion (2). These numbers do not
even make a dent in what the U.S. is paying. In addition to the initial cost, there is also a price to be
paid to the veterans that served our country. A 2011 study found U.S. medical and disability claims for
veterans after a decade of war totaled $33 billion. In 2013, that number had risen to $134.7 billion (2).
The War in Iraq brought devastation to their

  • 2. The Origin Of The Lolita Subcultures Finding out what to wear in the morning is a part of everyone s morning routine, but when it comes to fashion trends what you wear appears to become more important. Reading magazines and watching celebrates on the red carpet are a few ways in which people find out what is popular to dress in something that is will make them fit in and be up to date with the fashion of the time. In the other hand there are people who do exactly the opposite, more specifically those within the Lolita subculture. The Lolita subculture is a Japanese fashion subculture known for its Victorian period clothing style corsets, petticoats, and lace. What makes this fashion style unique is its similarities with 19th century girl and doll dresses (Adèle Hardy Bernal, 2011, p. 20), but Lolitas were not dressing up in Victorian clothes without a reason. The origins of the Lolita subculture can be traced back to as far as the late 1980 s. Similar to the start of the British Punk subculture, in the 1980 s Japan went through a drastic economic change referred to as the Bubble Burst or the burst of the Bubble Economy. During the time of the Bubble Burst several people were laid off from their jobs, women became stay at home mothers, and overall the youth lost hope for a successful future in Japan. The state of the economy caused anger, disappointment. The youth in Japan began to care less about the traditional Japanese values such as dedication to your job, and the respect of elders. • 4. Albert Bandura s Theory Of Radical Behaviorism Theory Parsimony is often regarded as one of the cornerstones in the evaluation of psychological constructs and theories. Importantly, the condition of parsimony in itself presents a risk, potentially placing an unnecessary limitation, when a more complex explanation may better reflect the overall complex nature of the fundamental underlying concept that is under scrutiny (Epstein, 1984). Albert Bandura s social cognitive theory and B. F. Skinner s theory of radical behaviourism have provided two of the most influential contributions to psychology, and when examining Skinner and Bandura s theories, this notion of parsimony becomes highly prevalent, as it is the most significant way in which the two theories differ. This stark contrast in parsimony arises from the methodological differences between the two theories in their treatment of the role of cognition. Skinner s theory asserts a situationalist perspective of personality which is underpinned by the idea that all behaviour is purely deterministic and solely caused by the environment, thus by consequence any learning of new behaviours or personality occurs independently of the learner (Murphy, Maltby and Cloninger, 2010; Skinner, 1950). By contrast, Bandura (Murphy, Maltby and Cloninger; 2010, Bandura, 2001, 2006) proposes a dynamic perspective of personality which underpins the notion of reciprocal determinism, encompassing a complex and dynamic interaction between personal factors (namely cognition), behaviour and the ... Rosenblum does an exemplary job of showing that every one of us has incredible perceptual capabilities that we use all the time, even if we are not completely aware that we are using these abilities. Although not exactly to the extent to which we see in the book; we use smell to determine other people s moods and emotions. We also use our sight to a surprisingly large extent to listen to what someone is saying to us; for example in a crowded restaurant, when it is difficult to hear we try to read lips along with trying to listen. We also use hearing as well as sight to travel from place to place. And as these examples show, our senses combine more often than we might think to help us better navigate around the world that we live in. Also, our brains appear to be designed to deal with multisensory perception and can, for instance, interpret auditory input as visual information. These concepts and ideas help open the minds of students and teach them things about perception and our senses that they would never know. I know that it personally did that for me. His approach to explaining these phenomena s is an interesting thought provoking way that I think students will be able to follow and stay captivated. The newly formed National Government was acting under the Articles of Confederation, which established a firm league of friendship between the states, but did not give adequate power to run the country. To ensure the young nation could continue independently, Congress called for a Federal Convention to convene in Philadelphia to address the deficiencies in the Articles of Confederation. One of the first debates over the institution of the National Executive was whether the Executive should consist of a single person as motioned by James Wilson, of Pennsylvania, and seconded by Charles Pinckney, of South Carolina. The idea of a single Executive met with strong opposition due to conjuring images of their former oppression under British rule. Due to the fact that all delegates were old enough to remember, many of them to have fought against, the rule by Britain, it was easy for them to compare what they were trying to create to what they already knew and in some cases detested. To defend against the Executive morphing into a monarchy there was a suggestion of a three person Executive branch that was put forward by Randolph who felt the people would not properly support a signal Executive. The idea of a three person branch would give a representative from the Northern, Middle, and Southern States. Pierce Butler of South Carolina, having seen firsthand in Holland the issues caused by plurality, strongly objected. As happened many times during the convention the motion was postponed. Women had competed at international competitions such as Wimbledon for a several years, but many of them were amateurs (oftentimes paid little). On a Saturday afternoon, after getting home early from work, Hogan stopped to talk with the Colonel. The Colonel obviously loved tennis, telling stories from competitions when in college and in the service. He amused the young boy with stories of tournaments, matches with famous players, and games in remote parts of the world. INTRODUCTION Good dairy housing design requires knowledge of the various dairying concepts and applying this knowledge to building construction to create a facility that provides quality performance in its suitability for the cows accommodation and efficiency in the facility operations. This chapter covers existing literature related to the topic of research that will help in informing the research. This chapter will further outline key design factors to be considered in dairy housing. 2.2. GENERAL CONSIDERATIONS An efficient management of cattle will be incomplete without a well planned and adequate housing of cattle. Improper planning in the arrangement of animal housing may result in additional labour charges and that curtail the profit of the owner. During erection of a house for dairy cattle, care should be taken to provide comfortable accommodation for an individual cow. No less important is the proper sanitation, durability, and efficient arrangement plan for the stalls and production of clean milk under convenient and economic conditions, etc. (TNAU, 2009) There are a number of statements within the Code of Recommendations for the Welfare of Livestock: Cattle published by Defra (2003) regulations that relate to the accommodation for animals outlining the minimum requirements for dairy cattle welfare extracted from The Welfare of ... Both countries were generally unhappy with their government and their involvement in the war. The war amplified the problems, like poverty in Russia and England limiting Ireland s government, that already existed in both of those countries. Without the negative impacts of World War I on countries like Russia and Ireland, there would have been less of a call for revolution. • 31. The Frog Heart And The Frog Heart The development of perfusion solutions such as Ringers solution enables us to study basic cardiac functions. These solutions are based on the composition of extracellular fluid that is able to sustain isolated organs and allow them to perform as they do inside the body (Silverthorn, 2013).The frog heart beats slowly and therefore allows us to easily observe the mechanical activity of the cardiac cycle (Courtice, 1989). The heart is made up of cardiac muscle. Compared to skeletal muscle, cardiac muscle exhibits a few differences such as rhythmicity. The frog heart is different to the mammalian heart in that it has three chambers instead of four (Sherwood et al, 2013). The pacemaker cells are located in the sinus venosus as opposed to in the sinoatrial (SA) node in mammals. The sinus venosus receives deoxygenated blood from the veins which drain most of the body organs and empties it into the right atrium. Oxygenated blood from the lungs returns to the left atrium. The single ventricle receives the blood from both atria and pumps it through a single large artery known as the truncus arteriosus (Sherwood et al, 2013). There is little mixing of the two pools of blood due to the structural organisation of the ventricle and the outflow tract. Due to the organisation, oxygenated blood is delivered to the brain and tissues while deoxygenated blood flows to the lungs and to the skin through which the frog exchanges gases and water (Sherwood et al, 2013). During the experiment, a pithed frog will be used to determine the effect of temperature and certain drugs on the activity of the heart. In endotherms, humans for example, rate and strength of the heartbeat increases as temperature increases due the effect that an increased temperature has on enzymatic reactions (Silverthorn, 2013). When the environmental temperature decreases, the heart rate initially speeds up to increase metabolism which ultimately will increase heat production in order to maintain homeostasis. However, once core body temperature decreases, cardiac activity decreases due to the decreasing rate of chemical reactions (Silverthorn, 2013). Because frogs are ectotherms, their core body temperature is dependent on the environment. It is expected that an ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Consequences Of Statistical Inferences Providing A Result Consequences of statistical inferences providing a result rather than an answer could include researchers incorrectly applying related management implications to their studies, when in reality they are applying a treatment that was not correctly interpreted. This could result in the new study producing a non significant result when a biologically significant result should have been detected. Researchers desperate for a significant P value may claim an observation that was not present in the study, or perform researchers degrees of freedom, which is defined as decision making as researchers conduct the study, and not beforehand. b. Truth cannot be derived from a single study; it must be repeated to increase the precision of the study and therefore the strength of inference made about the results. Often, using the same sample and similar methods will not procure similar results, and therefore a consensus of studies should be provided to make a general claim. Studies that truly follow the scientific method and include randomization and repeatability will be closer to discovering the truth than other studies. c. Thus, the Lumiere brothers? pioneered not just the technical attributes of the camera but also its artistic attributes, creating a dialogue of realism (Lumiere, 1895:302). I also knew that it was action packed and very entertaining to watch the characters. The opening scene is the sequence I went with because of the large amount going on and it also sets the tone for the rest of the movie. The Hurt Locker takes place in Iraq a year after the war started. There are three main characters: Staff Sergeant James, Sergeant Sanborn, and Specialist Eldridge. All three are on an elite Army Explosive Ordnance Disposal team working to make the city a safer place by dismantling improvised explosive devices (IEDs). With less than a month left before their duty is up, surviving their time in Iraq has become even more of a challenge with James as the new leader. The Hurt Locker dives right into the action with three characters attempting to disassemble an IED. This beginning scene and the majority of the movie have a documentary effect. The hand in camera with all the jerky movement going on gives the audience that feeling. It is a great way to present the film, as this gives the audience a sense of being there in Iraq. The scene starts off with Sergeant Thompson walking toward the bomb on a hot day in a heavy suit. You can hear Thompson breathing hard with the sun beating on him. With the light effects, you can see the heat in the air. All this in mind the viewer is able to feel sympathy for the character without knowing much about him. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Allingham and Sandmo (1972) provided the main theoretical model based on the economics of crime approach (Becker [1968] 1974) where individuals would evade taxes as long as the payoff from tax evasion outweighs the costs of being caught evading. Increasing the costs of cheating more audits, and stiffer penalties should reduce tax evasion. Unfortunately, over time that theoretical approach has shown its limitations. First, it cannot explain why observed levels of tax compliance in empirical studies and in experiments are higher than the model s theoretical predictions based on probabilities of detection and penalties. Theoretical concerns focused on the role of norms in explaining tax compliance behavior or attitudes about complying with taxes (e.g. Cullings and Lewis 1997, Schnellenbach 2006) Taxpayers may have an intrinsic motivation to comply with taxes which was termed Tax Morale (Torgler 2003b, 2006) which is shaped by individual and institutional norms (Torgler, 2003b). Unlike the traditional model of tax evasion, taxpayers rationality is assumed as limited; norms act as devices helping individuals to make their own tax compliance decisions (Torgler, 2003b) Although limited by the still developing links between tax compliance attitudes and tax compliant behavior (Halla, 2010) empirical results show plausibly Tax Morale may influence taxpayer behavior as it appears correlated with the size of the underground economy (Alm and Torgler 2006, Torgler and Schneider 2007).
